The Chocolate War Summary
The setting of this novel, The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, is set in trinity. Trinity is a
school for the top tier students. Trinity is also known for doing what other schools can t. This
story has a very rebellious mood to it. The reasoning behind this is the rebellious behavior Jerry
uses. The first characteris Jerry Renault. In this story Jerry plays the important role of protagonist.
Mentally Jerry is a coward, but only at the start of the story as he becomes faced with trials. Jerrys
weight is five foot nine inches and his weight is one hundred forty five pounds. What the hell you
want to play football for? You need more meat on those bones. (6).
The second character is Archie Costello. In this story Archie also play an important role as the
main antagonist. Archie is an average young male with blond hair. Archie is not certain he is
human and struggles with that. Don t you think i m human. (14). The third and final character is
Brother Leon. In the story Leon is an antagonist that hides in the shadows controlling archie. At the
start Leon comes off as someone who believes in the school. I know it s a lot of chocolates .(23).
This shows the disguise of tenderness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerry is told to refuse the chocolates by the vigils as an assignment. Everyone finds out about the
assignment Jerry received. After Jerry s assignment is over jerry continues to refuse the
chocolates. The vigils consider Jerry s refusal to sell a defiance. The other students consider
rebelling as well. The school treasurer finds out about Leon embezzling from the school and
needs to sell all the chocolates to break even. Archie plans a raffle where you put how you want
Janza to to hit Jerry or how you want Jerry to hit Janza. Janza breaks the rules hitting Jerry in the
head rendering him knocked

Arthropods are Small but Mighty
Arthropods ensure that the human race exists and yet many people do not even know what they
are. Arthropods are invertebrates that have external skeletons, segmented bodies, and jointed
appendages. In other words, arthropods are the tiny creepy crawlies that we try and avoid every
day. Although they may seems disgusting without them we would not be alive. Arthropods have
stamped out hunger and fed the world. They have united us as a planet and spread ideas and
beliefs. They have ensured we can farm and that animals can survive ( BBC Documentary Insect
Worlds: Them Us Episode 1. ). They may be small but they are mighty.
Without arthropods millions of people would go hungry. Over 80% of the world consumes
insects, which are famous arthropods ( U.N. Suggests Eating Bugs to Fight World Hunger. ). In
Kenya, villagers swing baskets into the air to catch flies. Once they catch the flies they fry them
in hot oil and eat them. Those fly patties have seven times more protein than a beef burger. In a
place where protein is scarce, this food is very important to their health. Caterpillars are also a
great source of protein that are eaten by hundreds of people all over the world. People also
consume eleven million crustaceans a year, another popular edible arthropod ( BBC Documentary
Insect Worlds: Them Us Episode 1. ). The united nations has even suggested that eating insects will
help solve the global hunger issue (TechMediaNetwork). Even though this may seem repulsive to

Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis
Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge
University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of
transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that
they are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics
such as the bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future
authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world.
However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of
younger generations in his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on
individualism and transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom
was correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed
Ralph Waldo Emersons view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that
overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by
comparing it to current political events in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson
was very influential to not only authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be
inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could
be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real world connections
instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or even comprehending the
meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson separates society into two groups known as
Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and
understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society
without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and
do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will never be too late to find self
reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society.
When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves

Abstract
This paper compares and contrasts the concepts found on John P. Kotter s, Leading Change (1996),
book and the concepts presented by John M. Ivancevich, Robert Konopske and Michael T.
Mattenson s Organizational Behavior and Management text book. Kotter emphasizes in each step
the importance of dealing with human emotions and how to better manage them when dealing with
organizational change. The biggest asset to an organization is their human resources. To an
organization this simply means that many emotions need to be addressed before a door can be
opened towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people that are leading the efforts are in charge of making changes that should result in a more
effective organization in terms of organizational strength. This step can be compared to Ivancevich
et al. s concepts of teams and changing attitudes.
The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team
should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the
goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem solving and emotional
roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing
attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a
restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52).
Kotter mentioned the integrity or trust factor as a main component to altering employees negative
attitudes and motivating them towards change. The concept presented by Ivancevich et al. on
changing attitudes includes the communicator, the message and the situation factors (this analysis
will only refer to the first two factors). The communicator factor relates to employee s willingness
to change attitudes because they like and trust their manager (guiding coalition), they can even tend
to adopt attitudes and behaviors of that individual (Ivancevich et al, 2007, P.69). Within the
message factor, the guiding coalition

the AFL over organizing the growing number of semi skilled employees in the labor force.
Tremendous technological shifts occurred during semi skilled employees in the labor force.
Many of the AFL unions did not want to enroll semi skilled production employees. Some AFL
leaders thought that a separate union would be needed for each company s or industry s product.
The union membership increased dramatically in the 1930 s and 19*40 s that had five factors to
account for the growth of the unions during that period of strong leadership, realistic goals,
effective use of the sit down strik tactic, passage of the National Labor Relations act, and changes
in employees attitudes toward a more favorable view of the union. Chapter 3 1) Affirmative Action

special districts offer, with fire protection being the one that is the most numerous in special district

Selma Book Vs Book Essay
The conflicts met between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people of the South
were incredibly gruesome. While peace and equality for African Americans was the driving force
of the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force for the white people. In the March
Trilogy Books, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, and in the movie Selma
, written by Paul
Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, we are given a glimpse of these troubling times during the
1960 s. The tone was very dark, harsh, and violent. Because voting rights and equality were
important to them, the mass of marchers continued their protests despite the beatings and cruelty
they faced. Although there were horrendous acts made against the African... Show more content on

Where a crowd of resisters were waiting for them. Even though the marchers faced violent
opposition and met with conflict, they continued their protests. The books and the movie displayed
conflict throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers
were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged
towards them, making this day known as Bloody Sunday , March 7, 1965. When asked for his
comments in the movie by the press after the brutal attack on the marchers, King says While
rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with
tear gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless,
for we all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. I am appealing to men and women of God and
goodwill everywhere, white, black and otherwise. If you believe all are created equal, come to
Selma. Join us. Join our march against injustice and inhumanity. We need you to stand with us .
The second attempt to cross the bridge on March 9, 1965 brought clergy, men, and women from
all over to join. But faced conflict as well, this time between Martin Luther King Jr, and the
marchers themselves. However, there was a major difference regarding this attempt to cross,
between the books and the movie. In the books, the marchers were met on the bridge by a Federal

Can you name just one famous southern Cajun recipe? Well I can and it s my favorite Cajun meal.

and you need to preheat it over high heat to 350 degrees, which should be around 4 minutes,
depending on conditions.
Then add 3 cups of the mustard greens, 2 cups of the onions, all of the bell peppers, celery, and
bay leaves. The one cup of okra and dump it all in the pot and cook, stirring occasionally to check
for sticking. After 8 minutes add the apple juice and remaining seasoning mix, stir and cook until
most of the liquid is absorbed, should take 6 to 8 minutes. Add the seasoned chicken, cover the pot
and cook for 2 minutes.
What you need to do next is add the browned flower and stir it in until a paste forms, then cover
and cook for a minute. After the one minute add both the defatted stocks and stir well. Then
cover the pot, bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. Still with me on this? Good, don t worry
only a few more steps to go. After the three minutes add the collard greens, the rest of the mustard
seeds, okra and onions. Mix the vegetables in well.

Adolf Hitler And His Nazi Party
Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party are key in the story of the modern Jewish plight within central
Europe. Despite a vast number of the laws passed within Nazi Germany and then Nazi occupied
Europe being applicable to the Jewry of Germany, and Europe it is clear that it was not
exclusively for the Jews and the effect of this was not worse for one or another. However, this
essay endeavours to discuss the main characteristics of the Nazi policies on the Jewish
population and it is easy to see that the main characteristic was exclusion aided by terror, which
only appeared to brew with the well established feelings of anti Semitism and become
increasingly more extreme. However it is important to acknowledge the debate around the subject,
as suggested by Wildt it is important to not willingly accept and adopt the school of thought as a
clear cut unfolding of Nazi policy, where he suggests that anti Semitism has been a part of
Germanic life for centuries and not a product of the regime. Before going into the characteristics of
the policies of the Nazi partyit is important to understand about the origins of the party itself and
therefore the origins of the party s anti Semitic nature. The National Socialist German Workers
Party commonly known in English as the Nazi Party was a political party in Germany active
between 1920 and 1945. The party grew from the German Nationalist, racist and populist anti
communist paramilitary culture which fought against the communist uprisings

Analysis Of If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth
1. I was, initially, struck by the imagery in the author s writing. With the vivid descriptions and
general lucidity coupled with the slow revelations throughout the plot, the style of writing keeps
you engaged. This impressed me most, as well as the clever usage of a biblical quote in the title to
allude towards the themes in the story.
2. The genre of If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth is science fiction.
3. We find the exposition in our introduction to Marvin, the young protagonist who seems to be
living in some sort of lunar colony with the remains of humanity, as his father leads him through
long, echoing corridors. The rising action occurs as Marvin is allowed Outside for the very first
time, at which point his father brings him to a vehicle and drives them away from their Colony. In
the climax, Marvin sees Earth, or at least what remains of it. His father explains to him how Earth
was destroyed, that their Colony is all that is left. In the falling action, we see Marvin understanding
the purpose of this pilgrimage. He knows he will not venture to Earth, but in the denouement,
Marvin decides to pass this story and a dream of returning to Earth along with it to his own son one
day. Marvin and his father return to their colony.
4. Our protagonist is Marvin, the main character. There is no clear antagonist, except perhaps the
past and future of humanity and the destruction said humanity brought upon itself.
5. Marvin is extremely mature for his age, not to mention

Devadatta marries Padmini who while appreciating Devadatta, is attracted to Kapila. Both are
confused about their relationship with Padmini. In desperation, Devadatta offers his head to Goddess
Kali; Kapila does the same. In the ghastly situation, as Padmini prepares to kill herself, Kali
offers her a boon. She asks Padmini to attach the heads to the torsos to bring Devadatta and
Kapila back to life. Kali as the Deliberating Shakti, Vimarsha Shakti is the energy of reasoning
out and planning the gradual evolution of the universe (Zimmer 211). But the play describes her
as a drowsy and exasperated Goddess. She is therefore the dual force of action and carries in one
hand a sword symbolic of physical extermination and spiritual decision and in the other bowl that
yields abundance of food (Seetha 194). This paradoxical creative and destructive force is the pivot
on which develops the theme and the action of the play. Goddess Kali who is so indifferent to
human concerns exposes the lie in their supposedly religious actions. The dialogues between Kali
and Padmini are ironic. Kali recalls her earlier days when she used to be awake because her
devotees kept her awake with their deafening racket with drums and conch shells and cymbals
(Karnad 141). Criticizing the actions of Devadatta and Kapila, she recalls their lies and comments
for Padmini only she spoke the truth (28). But

In general, a bill will start with a member of Congress, but members of the public, state
legislatures, or the executive branch can also suggest a bill to them. After a congressman
decides that they wish to propose legislation, they then have to submit the bill to their respective
house. In the House of Representatives, all that is needed is to place the bill into a box, while in
the Senate, one must file it with a clerk. To illustrate the process, look at a hypothetical bill
introduced in the House. After the bill has been submitted, it will be recorded in the House
Journal and the Congressional record. The speaker of the house then assigns the bill to a
committee. This is an important step and gives the speaker a large amount of power, as assigning a
bill to a committee that will view it unfavorably will almost certainly result in the death of the bill.
After the assignment, the committee will hold sessions to make any changes they think are
important, and if deemed necessary, the chair will send the bill to a subcommittee. They will hold
hearings and do further research before amending the bill, when it will be returned to the main

The Pros And Cons Of Corporate Air Charters
In the event that you fly as often as possible for work or play, you might be in for a few bothers

Big Data And Business Innovation
Introduction In this modern age of constant technological advancement and business innovation, a
relatively new feature has unlocked more potential for businesses to improve: Big Data. Big Data
can be defined in many different ways. It has become important primarily for business decision
making.
One aspect of business that Big Data is now affecting is the auditing profession. Many
opportunities exist for Big Data to improve the standard auditing procedure. However, certain
challenges may prevent it from assisting in its full potential. In addition to challenges in the
auditing profession, Big Data also has its own ethical implications. In this report, all of these facets
of Big Data will be discussed in detail.
Definitions Big Data refers to the large amounts of data that businesses deal with on a day to
day basis. Big Data can be defined in many ways, but this is one of the most general definitions.
One of the primary uses businesses have for Big Data is to provide assistance for decision
making. In order for Big Data to be effective, organizations must utilize the data to their advantage.
The quality of information is what matters, not the quantity. Organizations may have virtually
unlimited amounts of data to work with, but they must locate the helpful portions of data in order
for it to be effective and serve its purpose. In addition, some data may not be helpful at the present
moment in time, but will be needed for analysis in the future ( What Is Big Data? ,

Is Addiction A Choice
Cathy Riley Snyder
Is Addiction a Choice or a Disease?
One of the most insidious characteristics of drug addiction is a recurring desire to consume drugs
despite its negative outcomes. Addicts usually present with a compromised ability to suppress drug
seeking behaviors even when confronted with extremely adverse consequences, including social
isolation, monetary setbacks, physical discomfort or incarceration. Despite the nature of addiction
as a recurring behavior, there are persisting arguments that addiction is not a choice but a disease,
and that the addict does not have any voluntary control over the condition. Contrary to this
argument, Sussman and Sussman (2011) clearly articulate addiction as an engagement in a

Addiction does not have any infectious agent and is not biologically degenerative. Additionally,
it does not have any pathological process, which casts serious doubts over its being a disease. On
the other hand, empirical evidence has found that not only are addicts able to regulate their
addiction, they are also able to alter their addictive behaviors to align them with real world issues
and challenges. The risk taking behaviors exhibited by addicts have a behavioral beginning, and
can explain the behavioral etiology of addiction. The fact that most research points out the
behavioral basis of addiction, and laws that have been instituted to prevent addictions. This
especially pertains to chemical substances, indicates that prevailing understanding in both the
scholarly and legal realms, considers addiction as voluntary and a matter of choice. Therefore, the
argument that addictive behaviors are biologically mediated, is inaccurate, because not only can
addictive behaviors be regulated, they can be give up with enough will power. The description of
addiction underlines the role of conscious choice that is inherent in the addictive behavior, and
therefore it can be concluded that addiction is a choice and not a

Choice Theory Vs Trait Theory Criminology Essay
Theories are a significant part of developing a body of knowledge within an academic discipline.
Within the domain of criminology, many theories have provided a foundation to stimulate the
growth of this area of study. The beginning of criminology began with individual level theories;
they focus on the perpetrator s individualistic features to answer the question of why crimeoccurs.
Two major theories that divide the individual level theories are choice theoryand trait theory. Both
contain various principles within their unit. Choice theory involves classical criminologywhile trait
theory relates to biological, psychological, and sociological determinism. These theories use

The majority of the crimes during this time were gruesomely reprimanded, and many times,
individuals had no knowledge that certain acts were illegal. Judges obtained far more discretion
than should have been allowed. Criminal acts were suggested to be caused by supernatural
happenings like Satan and demonic possessions. The first step away from such harsh system and
irrational crime provoking causes was with the development of classical criminology. In 1764, a
man soon to be named the father of modern criminology, Cesare Beccaria developed a criminal
justice system proposal which focused on aiding the people instead of the crown (Adler et al.,
2007). The views of crime and punishment drastically changed into the idea that crime should be
punishable to the extent of the crime committed. Classical criminology revolves around the idea
that individuals

Hyperbolic Discounting Case Study
Executive Summary
Hyperbolic discounting is a human bias for humans to choose immediate reward rather than a
higher valued reward at a future time. This bias is due to the human brains coping skills with all
the information flowing around us. Our limbic system in the brain makes immediate decisions
that are attached to our emotions (rewards feel good), while our frontal area of the brain makes
the executive decisions. This bias leads to many businesses that profit of it, like credit companies
offering high interest loans, companies offering free gifts for business down the road, and even
Amazon promising same day delivery. As of 2015, nearly 30% of American adults don t save any
of their income for retirement. Hyperbolic discounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

more people will choose the $50 today over the $100 dollars next year, and for the second choice

Hyperbolic discounting has been shown in child psychology studies with the Stanford
marshmallow experiement.1 In this study, a child was offered a choice between one marshmallow
immediately or two marshmallows after a short period of time, usually around 15 minutes. Follow

Spies Identity
Throughout Making History and Spies the struggle for identity is a theme and how the period can
influence the protagonist s selfhood. Making History explores Hugh O Neill s endeavour as he is
forced to choose between his allegiance to the Irish, his birthplace, and his loyalty to England. O
Neill is in the battle of Kinsale during the sixteenth century; similarly, in Spies, the protagonist
Stephen is within a country at war. In the nineteen forties, World War Two caused German Jews to
escape the Nazi regime, often to Britain. Whilst there, the Germans were given false English names
to detract attention from their true identity. This causes confusion for the protagonist of Spies as
his name Stephen Wheatley is false, and he is living within a country that he does not belong to.

Friel uses the characters of O Neill and Mabel as microcosms to portray the conflict of the two
during the sixteenth century. In Act 1 Hugh O Neill is portrayed as a formidable and influential
character; towards the end we see that he is no longer the man Friel presented him to be, he is
torn between the Gaelic civilisation and the British. For example he displays his divided identity
and seeks recognition from the other characters within the play of which country he should be
loyal to. We can see this through his utterance to Mabel in Act 2, Which hand should I grasp? .
This suggests that he is not assertive and the division in his identity is a prominent part of his life.
In Spies the young protagonist also looks for recognition, similar to O Neill when contemplating
which country he must be loyal to. Stephen seeks recognition from Keith of how he must act or the
ways in which he must say things. For example Keith gives the protagonist a disapproving look
when he says Schnick schnack , a German

The Communist Manifesto And Das Kapital
Karl Marx
A German philosopher, economist, journalist and revolutionary scientist, Marx was best known
for his work in economics. He laid the foundations for today s theories of labor and capital. The
Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital were among the most famous of his published works.
Born to a middle class family in Trier, Prussia in 1818, his parents were Jewish, but converted to
Christianity in 1816 due to strict anti Jewish laws. He was baptized as a Christian at the age of
six but later on became an atheist (Staff, 2009). He received his education in universities of
Berlin and Jena and started following G.W.F. Hegel, the German philosopher whom at that time
was seeking a dialectical system of philosophy. In 1842, He became editor of a liberal
democratic newspaper in Cologne called the Rheinische Zeitung. He had worked with the
newspaper until 1843 when the Prussian authorities shut it down for becoming outlandish in its
reports. The same year after the paper was shut down, he went to Paris to co edit a new political
review. Marx adopted an extreme form of socialism which called for a revolution by the working
class that would tear down the capitalist world. This ideology will be known as communism. In
Paris, he befriended Friedrich Engels, a fellow Prussian who shared his views and was to become
a lifelong collaborator. In 1845, due to his writings and ideas, Marx was removed from France and
settled in Brussels. There, Marx renounced his Prussian nationality and

What Does The Eye Of The Storm Mean
Studs Terkel (1980) relates C. P. Ellis story about how his experiences organizing a union opened
his eyes about how corporations treat minorities, and resulted in a new understanding of the
people around him even though he was a former Klansman. I have never been in the Klan or
organized a union, but a similar turning point for me came for me when I saw the movie The Eye
of the Storm, about Jane Elliot s experiment with white schoolchildren in Riceville, Iowa. This
experiment demonstrated to me how children respond to cultural cues first from their parents and
family members, but then through the institutions they are forced to participate in like school; the
church; other families and supervisory agencies. If even white children can be taught to
discriminate against other white children on something as arbitrary and insubstantial as eye color,
then how easy it must be to train them to respond in denigrating ways to people with different skin
color, body shapes or language for example, I realized. This changed my perspective on racismand
ethnicity and while I have since done much research and believe education is the secret, the way I
have decided to implement change in my own life, is to speak out when I hear someone making a
denigrating comment.
This goes back to what I learned from The Eye of the Storm, where if people accept certain
behaviors as normal, as the children in Ms. Elliot s class were trained to do, then they become so
reinforced as to turn into norms

Australia, Eagle Motors Ltd needs to conduct an analysis of the industry context in which they

competitive nature of the Australian car industry and also it suggests an appropriate competitive
strategy for Eagle Motors to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. Eagle Motors Ltd is planning

High fixed costs: This result in an economy of scales effect that increases rivalry. High exit
barriers: High exiting barriers in the car industry place a high cost of abandoning products,
hence firms compete intensely not to loose out, like Mitsubishi. Industry shakeout: A growing
market and high profits induces new firms like Eagle Motors to enter market and increase
production which again increases competition and rivalry. Threat of Substitutes: In porter s
theory, substitutes refer to products in other industries, not different types of the product. A
substitute exists when a products demand is affected by a change in the price of the substitute
product. For Eagle motors the price elasticity for cars is affected by substitute products such as
public transport, motorcycles and bicycles for example. If more of these substitutes become
available, the demand for cars becomes more elastic since customers have more alternatives. A
close substitute makes it difficult for a company like Eagle motors to raise prices. In Australia
now the use of public transport and other forms of transport like bicycles have increased largely
because of the rise in petrol prices. In an already competitive market for cars, Eagle Motors needs
to be aware of the increasing petrol prices, and the tendency for consumers to switch to lower cost
substitutes like public

The Guide For The Perplexed
The Guide for the Perplexed is in a separate category different from the purely religious original
commentary in the Mishneh Torah. It is highly regarded as a major philosophical text in truth,
however it will be better and more correct to call it a theological treatise. It seeks to reconcile the
Jewish faith and religion with the challenges against it from philosophic and scientific texts at the
time, specifically the system of Aristotle and his followers. A great deal of its contents overlap with
much of the Commentary and the Mishneh Torah. As in Maimonidesother works, he provides a
general introduction explaining his objectives in composing his text, describing in general terms his
contents. He also has offered directions from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text had many words and expressions of the Torah; some are Homonyms that is singular words
that have different meanings in different contexts. All the terms have both literal and figurative
meanings, which are subject to the context. These semantic subtleties lead many to misunderstand
the text thus confusing and perplexing them and contrasting these misconceptions with the realities
of the philosophical or scientific truth. Truth cannot conflict with itself, as the toner the word of
God is absolutely true and the conclusion of sound reason must also be true, any conflict between
them becomes a serious problem. Such conflicts however are routed in either misunderstanding of
the Torah text or a misunderstanding of the philosophical and scientific premises or even both.
Maimonides sets out to clarify many of the ambiguous terms and expressions in the Torah texts. It
goes without saying that Maimonides would be considered a theologian, due to the fact that he is
interested in dealing with, the field of study and analysis that treats of God and of God s attributes
and relations to the universe; study of divine things or religious truths; divinity (Dictionary.com).
The ultimate aim of his Guide was to clarify the passages and provide a proper understanding of the
scriptures. It is interesting to note that Maimonides understood that his writings and interpretation

Examples Of Oral Presentation
Oral Presentation 03: reading a text and talking about a topic
The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of my last oral presentation which had two
different parts: reading a short text and talking about a topic. All of this had to be done for a
minimum of three minutes to a maximum of five. Once this was done the rest of the students and
the professor were invited to ask questions or comment any possible thing that needed further
explanation. Reading a short text and talking about a given topic, both of them unknown until the
moment in which the oral practice starts, allows the speaker to show its skills regarding
pronunciation without prior rehearsal and the way in which that person organizes ideas and
improvises in order to construct a conversation under uncertain circumstances. This report will go

informed that we would be speaking following the order in which we signed up to do the oral

Comparing Job And J. B. The Book Of Job
In the book of Job, Job walks through life making sure his actions and words are carefully
chosen, and even goes as far as to burn offerings for sins yet committed. The book of Job, and
then later the modern take titled J.B., was a new display from God, showing that bad things can
happen to good people. The book of Jobmade it clear in the biblethat God was not giving or taking
anything because of our own achievement, but that all things good and bad are from God.

Summary Of Katie Hammil s Sense And Sensibility
Katie Hammil s play Sense and Sensibility, adapted from Jane Austen s novel of the same name, is
about reservedness and openness and how both behaviors can cause misunderstanding, but
ultimately result in the same outcome, which is revealed through the play s characterization of the
two Dashwood sisters, and the conflict between them, which is all highlighted by the lighting and
costume design as well as the acting in the Playmakers Repertory Company production. Elinor
Dashwood (Shanelle Nichole Leonard) and her sister Marianne Dashwood(Emily Bosco) are two
people of very different temperaments. Elinor is characterized as reserved, and she works to
restrain her emotions for the sake of decorum and because she believes it is unseemly. I WILL
be mistress of myself, she exclaims as Edward Ferrars (Rishan Dhamija) appears at the end of
the play, in the scene Edward is Married (106). Marianne, on the other hand, is a lot more open
about her emotions, and is characterized as a more lively and sensitive young woman. Elinor s
personality causes her to bottle up her feelings toward Edward, making her extremely unhappy,
while Marianne s willingness to love Willoughby (Geoffrey Culbertson) results in him taking
advantage of her. The sisters s differences causes conflict between them, as they cannot
understand why the other acts as she does. Elinor desperately wishes her sister would be more
composed, while Marianne wishes Elinor would be more uninhibited. This often leaves them at
odds with one another, as seen in the end of the scene Brandon s Letter. Ultimately, however,
both sisters are able to find romance and a happy ending, and can finally begin to learn from
their mistakes and accept each other for how they are. Both young women s temperaments are
reflected in their costumes, designed by Olivera Gajic. Throughout the entirety of the play,
Elinor wears a dress of light blue, a color that implies ice and coldness, which mirrors her
tendency to be emotionally cold. In fact, Marianne even teases her sister in the scene Marianne
and Elinor by referring to her as Cold hearted Elinor! (14). Also, in the beginning of the play, Elinor
wears a neck kerchief, as if covering herself up both

Necessity of Pre nuptial Agreements within Australia
Legislation recognising pre nuptial agreements has been well overdue and this recognition will

Pre nuptial agreements, however controversial, are nothing more than a commonsense idea which

One theme of Christianity is that redemption is achieved through suffering. Jesus himself believed
in the method and even told Saint Faustina that she could save more souls through prayer and
suffering than will a missionary through his teachings and sermons alone (Diary 1767). Evidently,
the idea of redemptive sufferingworked its way strongly into his novel Crime and Punishment. The

The Hurricane and flood in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
illuminates the similarity between the novel and the natural disaster that occurred in south Florida

three times in hope of finding the right man who can help her find her voice. As can be seen,
Hurricane Andrewand the hurricane in the novel are similar in that they both correlate with one
another. Janie walks through a hurricane that symbolizes of all the troubles she faced in life which
is similar to Hurricane Andrew and the hardships it caused for many people living in south Florida
at the time. The hurricane being a metaphor for her other struggles, helps us get a clear

The Rise Of Birth Control
In 1965, President Johnson said, Less than five dollars invested in population control is worth a
hundred dollars invested in economic growth (Bailey, 2013). The rise of contraception in the
United States was controversial and highly debated in court. But, once the movement got rolling, it
was hard to stop. When a Gallop Poll in 1936 asked if United States citizens favor the birth control
movement, 61 percent answered yes. This was a shocking discovery, because until that time
contraception seemed like a taboo topic. Today, the manufacturing and selling of birth control is
legal in all 50 states. Family planning services are now subsidized by federal and state governments
and nonprofit and private organizations (Goldin and Katz, 2000). This nationwide movement
enables women to choose when they start families. By allowing women to have the authority to
utilize contraception, positive trends have been seen in economic advancement, education
attainment and population trends.
The Rise of Birth Control The first oral contraception, Envoid, was introduced in 1957. Although
introduced, state laws prohibited physicians from prescribing the Pill and pharmacists from selling
it. Fifty years ago, two major shifts in the access to birth control occurred. In 1965, the trial
Griswold versus Connecticut ended restrictions on the sale of contraceptives. Secondly, federal
government boosted funding for family planning from 1964 to 1973, these changes are still making

and many of Medicare beneficiaries owns additional drug coverage plans (Medicaid, Retiree

services are all covered without the cost sharing with patients. Moreover, the ACA has
introduced multiple improvements in prescription drug coverage in an effort to close the gap in
Medicare part D, called the donut hole . The beneficiaries were required to pay the medical

In contrast to universal health coverage, Medicare does not provide extended rehabilitation

Medicaid add ons such coverage, but is limited to the poorest elderly population. Despite the
importance of Medicare in improving its beneficiaries access to care, the program does have
substantial limitations in coverage. These limitations result in large out of pocket payments for the
most vulnerable beneficiaries (Hamel, 2015).

Vacation in Jamaica
Once in a lifetime vacation in Jamaica. Since my husband and I got married in May of 2010, we
did not have a honeymoon or a vacation. So my husband Ryan and I came to a decision that we
are going to take this opportunity and spend lavishes on a combo vacation. This trip was once in
a lifetime vacation in Jamaica, and we were very excited, I felt like a little kid waiting for my
very first candy. Ryan and I went ahead and book our vacation at Sandals, in Montego Bay,
Jamaica. There was so much to do in just 14 days, I taught we would have lots of time for sight
seeing and enjoyed the package we choose, but in real time that was not the case. Once we arrived,
and meet with our personal concierge to discuss our trip and it result in... Show more content on

We finally made it to the top; I was so relieve of fear. Nevertheless, when I taught this adventure
was over think again, it was the most pleasant scenery, I taught I die and gone to heaven. This
scene is astonishing, just imaging standing on the highest mountain overseeing the river with
the blues sky and the water color was a bluish to an emerald green with the sun light glistens in
the river, a nice cool breeze is blowing, it a place I would recommend, it is a remarkable place to
visit. Finally, a few days of calm and relaxing, a nice day at the beach just enjoying the sea
breeze as it calms me while watching the wave dancing and the sound is soothing to my ears. As
I was surrounded by this delightful evening as the night sets in. The scene on the beach was
invigorating. Every evening there is a party, these parties normally last anywhere between 12 to
24 hours and you have a choice of at least 3 5 different place to party all within the same facility.
The most memorably evening party was the one right on the beach. There were different shows
throughout the night, there were live music played by a band and everyone dance and had a good
time. Then the second part of the show involved with a man doing stunts, this man weighs about
230 pounds standing on a board with nails pointed up, that s got to hurt, but he was not hurt, he said
it was a specially technique he used. As the evening continued with the moon light shining upon

What Are The Scientific Management Theories
Brief Analysis of the four theoretical contributions which are central to the understanding of today s
Organizations:
1.Scientific Management F.W Taylor:
Frederick W. Taylor was recognized as the father of the scientific management theory. Taylor s
Scientific Management Theory is not just a collection of purely technical principles and practices,
but also the cooperation and harmonization of fundamental relationships between people and
machines and techniques; between people in the production process, especially between the
manager and the employee. Thanks to this theory applied in the industrial enterprises, the labor
productivity has increased dramatically; The final result is high profitability, both employers and
workers are high income. His scientific approach requires detailed observation and measurement of
routine work, in order to find the best working way. Taylor s approach is categorized as the bottom
up approach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Frederick Taylor laid the foundations for mass production techniques, which had
influenced in industrial practices as well as the general theoretical ideas of organization, not only
for industrial sector, but also in the service sector.
Frederick W. Taylor s scientific managementprinciples include: Dividing responsibility for work
from workers to managers. The manager is the planner and the job designer, the worker is the
person who performs the task; Use scientific methods to determine the most effective way of
doing things, dividing the work for the worker appropriately, specifying how to accomplish the
task; Choose the best person to perform the work as planned; Train employees effectively; Monitor
workers to ensure appropriate workflows and from there to achieve corresponding results.

The Disadvantages Of Living At Home
While attending your college classes, some of your classmates may live in a dorm on campus,
while others may commute from home. Yes, we are all trying to achieve the same goal, a diploma,
but it is the struggles that lead up to earning that piece of paper that we must take into
consideration. Cost, opportunities, and distractions all should be considered, and that is why
commuting from home would be the smartest choice when attending college. When discussing cost,
it can be a huge difference maker whether you are choosing to live at home or on campus. When
you choose to live on campus, you have to experience dorm life, pay room and board, and live off
of cheap food. Coming from a student who currently lives at home while attending college, I save
so much more moneythan some of my friends who live on campus. An advantage of living at
home is that I am capable of paying off my student loans as I go through school because tuition is
much cheaper and you get to work as well. You can work whether you live on campus or at home,
but you get to save more money while living at home because you have less tuition and expenses.
Not having to worry about all of the student loan debtafter college takes a lot of stress off of me.
While living at home, I also have been able to buy my own car and make payments on it
monthly. I will be able to have it paid off before some people my age are given the opportunity to
purchase one. The money you save while living at home is most definitely

Essay on The Cost of Redemption in the Lord of the Rings
The Cost of Redemption in the Lord of the Rings The struggle between good and evil is an ever
present theme of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The struggle exists in all of Middle earth, as the
followers of Sauron wage war against the realms of free men and their allies, as well as in
individual characters. Boromir, a tragic hero of Tolkien s work has essentially good qualities
marred by his corrupt desires for power and the Ring. The character of Gollum has an on going
internal struggle between the part of him that is corrupted by the Ring and his originally innocent
self, Smeagol, who struggles to be good. However, as long as good and evil both exist, redemption
is also possible. If Gollum, for example, was portrayed as only evil, and... Show more content on

Boromir has both the strange gleam of greed and evil in his eyes, while still possessing the same
kind appearance, demonstrating the conflict within himself. He has good intentions in desiring
the Ring to help Middle earth, but his actions are evil. Gollum is another character who
demonstrates an internal struggle between good and evil. He, too, has been corrupted by the
Ring, and his dual personalities, Smeagol and Gollum, continually debate with each other.
According to one scholar, The Ring exerts a terrible attraction simply as a possession. It fosters
an all consuming and wholly selfish personal indulgence. This has been its effect on Gollum and
this is what he represents (Thomson 52). Smeagol has been corrupted by the allure of the Ring
into a selfish being, yet there is still a good part of him that wants to help the hobbits as he argues
with himself saying, But Smeagol said he would be very very good. Nice hobbbit! (Tolkien 398).
Gollum presents a very clear example of struggling between choosing what is right and wrong. An
article analyzing morality within the Lord of the Rings states, The pathos of Gollum s internal
struggle during his journey with Frodo is an obvious example, and for many readers the fact that
The Lord of the Rings can rise to such moral and psychological complexity is one of the most
decisive proofs of the work s greatness (Rosebury 13). Tolkien s presentation of

Serving Lunch For School Children Essay
Serving lunch to school children began with private organizations making donations to a handful of
schools. In the peak of the 20th century, concern over children s nutrition caused balanced meals to
be provided to students during their lunch hour. Philadelphia began to serve lunches for one cent in
1894. Eventually their penny lunch program was extended to eight other schools throughout the
city. In January 1910, schools in Boston began serving lunch to elementary schoolstudents three
days a week. On the other days, a simple meal of milk and sandwiches was served. Since there was
no lunchroom in the building, students would eat at their desks (Avey, 2015).
At long last, the school lunch program was made official in 1946 when President Harry Truman
signed the National School Lunch Act. The National School Lunch Act of 1946 states: It is hereby
declared to be the policy of Congress, as a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and
well being of the Nation s children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious
agricultural commodities and other food, by assisting the States, through grants in aid and other
means, in providing an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment,
maintenance, operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs (Avey, 2015).
Unfortunately, the school lunch program made little progress after that. Without any sort of
guarantee of the success of the school lunch program in the years ahead,

The Cultural Theorists Karl Marx, Looking Into His Idea Of...
The Bindi, which is loosely known as the Tika , Pottu , Sindoor , Tilak , Tilakam , and Kumkum
(Das, 2014) is a decorative dot that was traditionally worn by Hindu women in the middle of the
forehead (Antony, 2010). Bindi is a word that was obtained from the Sanskrit (a sacred language of
Hinduism) word bindu meaning drop or dot . Bindi has been interpreted throughout India in ways
of having spiritual devotions in relation to the Hindureligionand is also an indication of one being
married. Although it maintains a traditional meaning to those from India and the Hindu religion, it
has since then become that of a fashion accessory. The aim of this assignment will discuss the
cultural theorist Karl Marx, looking into his Idea of commodity fetishism. The second concept that
will be used in this essay is that of Stuart Hall and his idea of Encoding and Decoding and thirdly,
this paper will discuss cultural appropriation in relation to the use of bindi in society today.
The traditional bindi has religious and social significance to the people of India and those of the
Hindu religion. In a religious context there are three common meanings behind the bindi, one of
these is the area in which the bindi is placed (between the eyebrows). This is known as the third
eye or the sixth chakra, it is believed to possess energy which then controls concentration levels
whilst meditating (Das, 2014). Secondly, it is also seen as being a protective symbol in a way that is

How The Philosophies Of Lily And Selden In The House Of Mirth
Lily Bart is 29 years old in early 20th century America, unwed and unattached to any family
money. The House of Mirth follows her story, ten years after her family is financially ruined and
she is orphaned, as she desperately clings to the wealth of her friends and attempts to marry into
money. Among the many suitable prospects, Lily finds Lawrence Selden, a bachelor who exists
on the edge of rich society with no fortune of his own and no desire to acquire any, the most
alluring. References to the Bible and Greek mythology serve to flesh out the respective
approaches to life of Lily and Selden, how those approaches adapt to the course of their lives and
the overall struggle between pleasure and survival. To first establish the different philosophies of
Lily and Selden, Wharton titles the novelwith a reference to the Bible which condemns frivolous
living, and describes Selden s views relative to two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title The House of Mirth refers to a Bible quote that argues somber, serious people are wise,
while only fools are mirthful (King James Version, Ecc. 7.4). Lily exemplifies the latter lifestyle,
caring mostly about the caliber of her gowns and about spending time with friends gambling or
traveling. She takes only one thing very seriously: her goal of marrying into a fortune
comfortable enough that she never again has to worry, or really think, at all. Selden, on the other
hand, is described as being just as detached from material desires as a stoic ... combined with [an]

Faces and Voices in Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! Essay
Faces and Voices in Faulkner s Absalom, Absalom!
While reading Absalom, Absalom! I was amazed at the number of times one of the narrators
would refer to faces or voices as being present rather than to the people themselves. In almost every
chapter this synecdoche appears, reducing many of the characters to images, shadows and
memories. I think Faulkner uses this device to enhance the fact that the story is told from memory
much of it from the point of view of the characters childhoods.
On page 184, Mr. Compson tells the story of young Thomas Sutpen s family life. He says he was
just there, surrounded by the faces, almost all the faces which he had ever known. I think the fact
that Sutpen s father and sisters aren t referred to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To young Charles, his mother was the face filled with furious and almost unbearable unforgiving
and likened to all mother faces (239). His father s blank face upon meeting him also becomes a
point of conflict for Charles. Later, Judith wears a calm, frozen face (150) for years after Charles s
murder, never breaking until her father finally comes home from the war.
Also, there is mention of voices talking in the novel, rather than people talking. In many parts of
the book, I think this device helps to conjure up the image of young Rosa standing at the door
eavesdropping. When her own family all but ignored her and only spoke behind closed doors, it
must have seemed to her that voices talked more than actual people. Referring to voices
independent of their owners also adds to the haunted, ghostly aspect of the story as seen from
Quentin s perspective. On page 4 he says : the voice not ceasing but vanishing...and the ghost
mused with shadowy docility as if it were the voice which he haunted where a more fortunate one
would have had a house. It s almost as if you can hear the ghosts speaking through Miss Rosa,
telling their own story through her.
The synecdoche in Absalom, Absalom! is a device not usually found in Faulkner s work. However,
I think it adds atmosphere and tonal qualities to the book while developing the characters sense of
themselves and their relationships to other characters.

  • 3. Arthropods are Small but Mighty Arthropods ensure that the human race exists and yet many people do not even know what they are. Arthropods are invertebrates that have external skeletons, segmented bodies, and jointed appendages. In other words, arthropods are the tiny creepy crawlies that we try and avoid every day. Although they may seems disgusting without them we would not be alive. Arthropods have stamped out hunger and fed the world. They have united us as a planet and spread ideas and beliefs. They have ensured we can farm and that animals can survive ( BBC Documentary Insect Worlds: Them Us Episode 1. ). They may be small but they are mighty. Without arthropods millions of people would go hungry. Over 80% of the world consumes insects, which are famous arthropods ( U.N. Suggests Eating Bugs to Fight World Hunger. ). In Kenya, villagers swing baskets into the air to catch flies. Once they catch the flies they fry them in hot oil and eat them. Those fly patties have seven times more protein than a beef burger. In a place where protein is scarce, this food is very important to their health. Caterpillars are also a great source of protein that are eaten by hundreds of people all over the world. People also consume eleven million crustaceans a year, another popular edible arthropod ( BBC Documentary Insect Worlds: Them Us Episode 1. ). The united nations has even suggested that eating insects will help solve the global hunger issue (TechMediaNetwork). Even though this may seem repulsive to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a speech to the men of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge University entitled The American Scholar in 1837. The speech focused on the main ideas of transcendentalism as well as how different factors in society affect man s ability to realize that they are their own individuals. Harold Bloom, a well known literary critic who evaluated topics such as the bible and Shakespeare, believed that Emerson s writing was the template for all future authors. Bloom believed that adversity allows people to have a deeper understanding of the world. However, Emerson focused on the loss of knowledge in the society due to the misunderstanding of younger generations in his time period while Bloom mainly focused on how Emerson s views on individualism and transcendentalism affected all writing whether admitted or not. Harold Bloom was correct in his critique, Out of Panic, Self Reliance published in 2008, when he confirmed Ralph Waldo Emersons view point in his speech The American Scholar (1837) stating that overcoming adversity is an essential part to gaining wisdom and forming self reliance by comparing it to current political events in order to show once again that Ralph Waldo Emerson was very influential to not only authors but to the overall evolution of man s thoughts. It can be inferred from Emerson that the adversity that he so deeply describes throughout his speech could be man s eternal struggle to discover his own self reliance and experience real world connections instead of just reading about them and not fully understanding or even comprehending the meaning of what is being read. Ralph Waldo Emerson separates society into two groups known as Man Thinking ( Emerson 2) who has allowed himself to be open to new ways of life and understanding and Mere thinkers (Emerson 2) who simply follow the trends and patterns society without any thought of their own. He believes the Mere thinkers are inevitable lost in adversity and do not fully understand transcendentalist ideas. Nevertheless, it will never be too late to find self reliance and contribute an opinion to the world thus diversifying society. When people finally rise above adversity they recognize the god within themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Organizational Behavior Management Concepts Kotter s Leading Change Concepts/ Organizational Behavior Management Concepts XXXXXXXX Webster University MNGT 5590 Dr. Victoria Bohrer May 11, 2011 Abstract This paper compares and contrasts the concepts found on John P. Kotter s, Leading Change (1996), book and the concepts presented by John M. Ivancevich, Robert Konopske and Michael T. Mattenson s Organizational Behavior and Management text book. Kotter emphasizes in each step the importance of dealing with human emotions and how to better manage them when dealing with organizational change. The biggest asset to an organization is their human resources. To an organization this simply means that many emotions need to be addressed before a door can be opened towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people that are leading the efforts are in charge of making changes that should result in a more effective organization in terms of organizational strength. This step can be compared to Ivancevich et al. s concepts of teams and changing attitudes. The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem solving and emotional roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52). Kotter mentioned the integrity or trust factor as a main component to altering employees negative attitudes and motivating them towards change. The concept presented by Ivancevich et al. on changing attitudes includes the communicator, the message and the situation factors (this analysis will only refer to the first two factors). The communicator factor relates to employee s willingness to change attitudes because they like and trust their manager (guiding coalition), they can even tend to adopt attitudes and behaviors of that individual (Ivancevich et al, 2007, P.69). Discuss some key similarities and differences between the AFL and CIO? Major disagreement occurred within the AFL over organizing the growing number of semi skilled employees in the labor force. Tremendous technological shifts occurred during semi skilled employees in the labor force. Many of the AFL unions did not want to enroll semi skilled production employees. Some AFL leaders thought that a separate union would be needed for each company s or industry s product. The union membership increased dramatically in the 1930 s and 19*40 s that had five factors to account for the growth of the unions during that period of strong leadership, realistic goals, effective use of the sit down strik tactic, passage of the National Labor Relations act, and changes in employees attitudes toward a more favorable view of the union. While peace and equality for African Americans was the driving force of the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force for the white people. In the March Trilogy Books, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, and in the movie Selma , written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, we are given a glimpse of these troubling times during the 1960 s. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged towards them, making this day known as Bloody Sunday , March 7, 1965. When asked for his comments in the movie by the press after the brutal attack on the marchers, King says While rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless, for we all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. • 10. Adolf Hitler And His Nazi Party Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party are key in the story of the modern Jewish plight within central Europe. Despite a vast number of the laws passed within Nazi Germany and then Nazi occupied Europe being applicable to the Jewry of Germany, and Europe it is clear that it was not exclusively for the Jews and the effect of this was not worse for one or another. However, this essay endeavours to discuss the main characteristics of the Nazi policies on the Jewish population and it is easy to see that the main characteristic was exclusion aided by terror, which only appeared to brew with the well established feelings of anti Semitism and become increasingly more extreme. However it is important to acknowledge the debate around the subject, as suggested by Wildt it is important to not willingly accept and adopt the school of thought as a clear cut unfolding of Nazi policy, where he suggests that anti Semitism has been a part of Germanic life for centuries and not a product of the regime. Before going into the characteristics of the policies of the Nazi partyit is important to understand about the origins of the party itself and therefore the origins of the party s anti Semitic nature. The National Socialist German Workers Party commonly known in English as the Nazi Party was a political party in Germany active between 1920 and 1945. • 11. Analysis Of If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth 1. I was, initially, struck by the imagery in the author s writing. With the vivid descriptions and general lucidity coupled with the slow revelations throughout the plot, the style of writing keeps you engaged. This impressed me most, as well as the clever usage of a biblical quote in the title to allude towards the themes in the story. 2. The genre of If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth is science fiction. 3. We find the exposition in our introduction to Marvin, the young protagonist who seems to be living in some sort of lunar colony with the remains of humanity, as his father leads him through long, echoing corridors. The rising action occurs as Marvin is allowed Outside for the very first time, at which point his father brings him to a vehicle and drives them away from their Colony. In the climax, Marvin sees Earth, or at least what remains of it. His father explains to him how Earth was destroyed, that their Colony is all that is left. In the falling action, we see Marvin understanding the purpose of this pilgrimage. He knows he will not venture to Earth, but in the denouement, Marvin decides to pass this story and a dream of returning to Earth along with it to his own son one day. Marvin and his father return to their colony. 4. Our protagonist is Marvin, the main character. She asks Padmini to attach the heads to the torsos to bring Devadatta and Kapila back to life. Kali as the Deliberating Shakti, Vimarsha Shakti is the energy of reasoning out and planning the gradual evolution of the universe (Zimmer 211). In general, a bill will start with a member of Congress, but members of the public, state legislatures, or the executive branch can also suggest a bill to them. After a congressman decides that they wish to propose legislation, they then have to submit the bill to their respective house. In the House of Representatives, all that is needed is to place the bill into a box, while in the Senate, one must file it with a clerk. To illustrate the process, look at a hypothetical bill introduced in the House. After the bill has been submitted, it will be recorded in the House Journal and the Congressional record. The speaker of the house then assigns the bill to a committee. This is an important step and gives the speaker a large amount of power, as assigning a bill to a committee that will view it unfavorably will almost certainly result in the death of the bill. Big Data And Business Innovation Introduction In this modern age of constant technological advancement and business innovation, a relatively new feature has unlocked more potential for businesses to improve: Big Data. Big Data can be defined in many different ways. It has become important primarily for business decision making. One aspect of business that Big Data is now affecting is the auditing profession. Many opportunities exist for Big Data to improve the standard auditing procedure. However, certain challenges may prevent it from assisting in its full potential. In addition to challenges in the auditing profession, Big Data also has its own ethical implications. In this report, all of these facets of Big Data will be discussed in detail. Definitions Big Data refers to the large amounts of data that businesses deal with on a day to day basis. Big Data can be defined in many ways, but this is one of the most general definitions. One of the primary uses businesses have for Big Data is to provide assistance for decision making. In order for Big Data to be effective, organizations must utilize the data to their advantage. The quality of information is what matters, not the quantity. Organizations may have virtually unlimited amounts of data to work with, but they must locate the helpful portions of data in order for it to be effective and serve its purpose. Despite the nature of addiction as a recurring behavior, there are persisting arguments that addiction is not a choice but a disease, and that the addict does not have any voluntary control over the condition. The risk taking behaviors exhibited by addicts have a behavioral beginning, and can explain the behavioral etiology of addiction. The fact that most research points out the behavioral basis of addiction, and laws that have been instituted to prevent addictions. This especially pertains to chemical substances, indicates that prevailing understanding in both the scholarly and legal realms, considers addiction as voluntary and a matter of choice. Therefore, the argument that addictive behaviors are biologically mediated, is inaccurate, because not only can addictive behaviors be regulated, they can be give up with enough will power. Within the domain of criminology, many theories have provided a foundation to stimulate the growth of this area of study. The beginning of criminology began with individual level theories; they focus on the perpetrator s individualistic features to answer the question of why crimeoccurs. Two major theories that divide the individual level theories are choice theoryand trait theory. Both contain various principles within their unit. Choice theory involves classical criminologywhile trait theory relates to biological, psychological, and sociological determinism. Judges obtained far more discretion than should have been allowed. Criminal acts were suggested to be caused by supernatural happenings like Satan and demonic possessions. The first step away from such harsh system and irrational crime provoking causes was with the development of classical criminology. In 1764, a man soon to be named the father of modern criminology, Cesare Beccaria developed a criminal justice system proposal which focused on aiding the people instead of the crown (Adler et al., 2007). The views of crime and punishment drastically changed into the idea that crime should be punishable to the extent of the crime committed. This bias is due to the human brains coping skills with all the information flowing around us. Our limbic system in the brain makes immediate decisions that are attached to our emotions (rewards feel good), while our frontal area of the brain makes the executive decisions. This bias leads to many businesses that profit of it, like credit companies offering high interest loans, companies offering free gifts for business down the road, and even Amazon promising same day delivery. I have never been in the Klan or organized a union, but a similar turning point for me came for me when I saw the movie The Eye of the Storm, about Jane Elliot s experiment with white schoolchildren in Riceville, Iowa. This experiment demonstrated to me how children respond to cultural cues first from their parents and family members, but then through the institutions they are forced to participate in like school; the church; other families and supervisory agencies. If even white children can be taught to discriminate against other white children on something as arbitrary and insubstantial as eye color, then how easy it must be to train them to respond in denigrating ways to people with different skin color, body shapes or language for example, I realized. This changed my perspective on racismand ethnicity and while I have since done much research and believe education is the secret, the way I have decided to implement change in my own life, is to speak out when I hear someone making a denigrating comment. This goes back to what I learned from The Eye of the Storm, where if people accept certain behaviors as normal, as the children in Ms. Elliot s class were trained to do, then they become so reinforced as to turn into norms ... • 32. Summary Of Katie Hammil s Sense And Sensibility Katie Hammil s play Sense and Sensibility, adapted from Jane Austen s novel of the same name, is about reservedness and openness and how both behaviors can cause misunderstanding, but ultimately result in the same outcome, which is revealed through the play s characterization of the two Dashwood sisters, and the conflict between them, which is all highlighted by the lighting and costume design as well as the acting in the Playmakers Repertory Company production. Elinor Dashwood (Shanelle Nichole Leonard) and her sister Marianne Dashwood(Emily Bosco) are two people of very different temperaments. Elinor is characterized as reserved, and she works to restrain her emotions for the sake of decorum and because she believes it is unseemly. I WILL be mistress of myself, she exclaims as Edward Ferrars (Rishan Dhamija) appears at the end of the play, in the scene Edward is Married (106). Marianne, on the other hand, is a lot more open about her emotions, and is characterized as a more lively and sensitive young woman. Elinor s personality causes her to bottle up her feelings toward Edward, making her extremely unhappy, while Marianne s willingness to love Willoughby (Geoffrey Culbertson) results in him taking advantage of her. The sisters s differences causes conflict between them, as they cannot understand why the other acts as she does. Elinor desperately wishes her sister would be more composed, while Marianne wishes Elinor would be more uninhibited. This often leaves them at odds with one another, as seen in the end of the scene Brandon s Letter. Ultimately, however, both sisters are able to find romance and a happy ending, and can finally begin to learn from their mistakes and accept each other for how they are. Both young women s temperaments are reflected in their costumes, designed by Olivera Gajic. Throughout the entirety of the play, Elinor wears a dress of light blue, a color that implies ice and coldness, which mirrors her tendency to be emotionally cold. Justin Lewis, a university professor, points out that Disney is so large and spread out globally, that its stories will be the stories that will form and help form a child s imaginary world, all over the world, and that s an incredible amount of power, enormous amount of power (Mickey Mouse Monopoly). He continues to say that we should question what Disney is teaching and what children are learning from their films. He uses rhetorical question to strengthen his point, asking if these [are] the stories we really want our children to hear (Mickey Mouse Monopoly). He brings to light that if those kinds of questions aren t being asked, then people are allowing Disney to shape the imaginations of millions of children. This really sets up the film s discussion on the influence Disney has on children. By introducing this part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, it is reported that around 12% of Medicare beneficiaries lack prescription drug plan, and many of Medicare beneficiaries owns additional drug coverage plans (Medicaid, Retiree Health Plans) (Hamel, 2015). As one of the changes made under the ACA, the preventive services are all covered without the cost sharing with patients. Moreover, the ACA has introduced multiple improvements in prescription drug coverage in an effort to close the gap in Medicare part D, called the donut hole . The beneficiaries were required to pay the medical expenses after a certain level of coverage was exhausted and the catastrophic drug coverage became active. Even though, much has been done to improve the coverage and extend benefits under Medicare, it continues to offer fragmented coverage and requires the beneficiaries to purchase additional coverage or enroll in Medicaid programs to reduce out of pocket spending. In contrast to universal health coverage, Medicare does not provide extended rehabilitation services as well as long term services and support. It is also very limited in home care coverage. Medicaid add ons such coverage, but is limited to the poorest elderly population. Despite the importance of Medicare in improving its beneficiaries access to care, the program does have substantial limitations in coverage. These limitations result in large out of pocket payments for the most vulnerable beneficiaries (Hamel, 2015). Another aspect that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yes, we are all trying to achieve the same goal, a diploma, but it is the struggles that lead up to earning that piece of paper that we must take into consideration. Cost, opportunities, and distractions all should be considered, and that is why commuting from home would be the smartest choice when attending college. When discussing cost, it can be a huge difference maker whether you are choosing to live at home or on campus. When you choose to live on campus, you have to experience dorm life, pay room and board, and live off of cheap food. Coming from a student who currently lives at home while attending college, I save so much more moneythan some of my friends who live on campus. An advantage of living at home is that I am capable of paying off my student loans as I go through school because tuition is much cheaper and you get to work as well. You can work whether you live on campus or at home, but you get to save more money while living at home because you have less tuition and expenses. Not having to worry about all of the student loan debtafter college takes a lot of stress off of me. While living at home, I also have been able to buy my own car and make payments on it monthly. • 44. Essay on The Cost of Redemption in the Lord of the Rings The Cost of Redemption in the Lord of the Rings The struggle between good and evil is an ever present theme of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The struggle exists in all of Middle earth, as the followers of Sauron wage war against the realms of free men and their allies, as well as in individual characters. Boromir, a tragic hero of Tolkien s work has essentially good qualities marred by his corrupt desires for power and the Ring. The character of Gollum has an on going internal struggle between the part of him that is corrupted by the Ring and his originally innocent self, Smeagol, who struggles to be good. However, as long as good and evil both exist, redemption is also possible. If Gollum, for example, was portrayed as only evil, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boromir has both the strange gleam of greed and evil in his eyes, while still possessing the same kind appearance, demonstrating the conflict within himself. He has good intentions in desiring the Ring to help Middle earth, but his actions are evil. Gollum is another character who demonstrates an internal struggle between good and evil. He, too, has been corrupted by the Ring, and his dual personalities, Smeagol and Gollum, continually debate with each other. According to one scholar, The Ring exerts a terrible attraction simply as a possession. It fosters an all consuming and wholly selfish personal indulgence. This has been its effect on Gollum and this is what he represents (Thomson 52). Smeagol has been corrupted by the allure of the Ring into a selfish being, yet there is still a good part of him that wants to help the hobbits as he argues with himself saying, But Smeagol said he would be very very good. Nice hobbbit! (Tolkien 398). Gollum presents a very clear example of struggling between choosing what is right and wrong. An article analyzing morality within the Lord of the Rings states, The pathos of Gollum s internal struggle during his journey with Frodo is an obvious example, and for many readers the fact that The Lord of the Rings can rise to such moral and psychological complexity is one of the most decisive proofs of the work s greatness (Rosebury 13). • 45. Serving Lunch For School Children Essay Serving lunch to school children began with private organizations making donations to a handful of schools. In the peak of the 20th century, concern over children s nutrition caused balanced meals to be provided to students during their lunch hour. Philadelphia began to serve lunches for one cent in 1894. Eventually their penny lunch program was extended to eight other schools throughout the city. In January 1910, schools in Boston began serving lunch to elementary schoolstudents three days a week. On the other days, a simple meal of milk and sandwiches was served. Since there was no lunchroom in the building, students would eat at their desks (Avey, 2015). At long last, the school lunch program was made official in 1946 when President Harry Truman signed the National School Lunch Act. The National School Lunch Act of 1946 states: It is hereby declared to be the policy of Congress, as a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and well being of the Nation s children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and other food, by assisting the States, through grants in aid and other means, in providing an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment, maintenance, operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs (Avey, 2015). The Bindi, which is loosely known as the Tika , Pottu , Sindoor , Tilak , Tilakam , and Kumkum (Das, 2014) is a decorative dot that was traditionally worn by Hindu women in the middle of the forehead (Antony, 2010). Bindi is a word that was obtained from the Sanskrit (a sacred language of Hinduism) word bindu meaning drop or dot . Bindi has been interpreted throughout India in ways of having spiritual devotions in relation to the Hindureligionand is also an indication of one being married. Although it maintains a traditional meaning to those from India and the Hindu religion, it has since then become that of a fashion accessory. The aim of this assignment will discuss the cultural theorist Karl Marx, looking into his Idea of commodity fetishism. The second concept that will be used in this essay is that of Stuart Hall and his idea of Encoding and Decoding and thirdly, this paper will discuss cultural appropriation in relation to the use of bindi in society today. The traditional bindi has religious and social significance to the people of India and those of the Hindu religion. In a religious context there are three common meanings behind the bindi, one of these is the area in which the bindi is placed (between the eyebrows). This is known as the third eye or the sixth chakra, it is believed to possess energy which then controls concentration levels whilst meditating (Das, 2014). The House of Mirth follows her story, ten years after her family is financially ruined and she is orphaned, as she desperately clings to the wealth of her friends and attempts to marry into money. Among the many suitable prospects, Lily finds Lawrence Selden, a bachelor who exists on the edge of rich society with no fortune of his own and no desire to acquire any, the most alluring. References to the Bible and Greek mythology serve to flesh out the respective approaches to life of Lily and Selden, how those approaches adapt to the course of their lives and the overall struggle between pleasure and survival. I was amazed at the number of times one of the narrators would refer to faces or voices as being present rather than to the people themselves. In almost every chapter this synecdoche appears, reducing many of the characters to images, shadows and memories. I think Faulkner uses this device to enhance the fact that the story is told from memory much of it from the point of view of the characters childhoods. On page 184, Mr. Compson tells the story of young Thomas Sutpen s family life. He says he was just there, surrounded by the faces, almost all the faces which he had ever known. To young Charles, his mother was the face filled with furious and almost unbearable unforgiving and likened to all mother faces (239). His father s blank face upon meeting him also becomes a point of conflict for Charles. Later, Judith wears a calm, frozen face (150) for years after Charles s murder, never breaking until her father finally comes home from the war. Also, there is mention of voices talking in the novel, rather than people talking. In many parts of the book, I think this device helps to conjure up the image of young Rosa standing at the door eavesdropping. When her own family all but ignored her and only spoke behind closed doors, it must have seemed to her that voices talked more than actual people. Referring to voices independent of their owners also adds to the haunted, ghostly aspect of the story as seen from Quentin s perspective. On page 4 he says : the voice not ceasing but vanishing...and the ghost mused with shadowy docility as if it were the voice which he haunted where a more fortunate one would have had a house. It s almost as if you can hear the ghosts speaking through Miss Rosa, telling their own story through her. The synecdoche in Absalom, Absalom! is a device not usually found in Faulkner s work. However, I think it adds atmosphere and tonal qualities to the book while developing the characters sense of themselves and their relationships to other characters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
