Critique: I found this essay to be enlightening in several ways. Not only was the information presented
in an organized way, but it was also very interesting. I agree with the author s statements about the
trials and tribulations of relationships, and I find myself agreeing most with his biological theory of
attraction. I especially liked the psychological direction of the essay, as it remained fairly objective
and scientific while still presenting new and different ideas as witnessed by his inclusion of historical
facts with the addition of his own unique analysis and commentary

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl is a classic children s novel that intells the exciting story of
a young orphan boy named James. James lives a lonely and depressing life with his two cruel and
abusive aunts. His life is completely transformed as an old man approaches him in his backyard and
gives him magical green pebbles. After James accidentally drops these magical pebbles into the
ground, one of the peaches from the tree planted in his backyard begins to grow to a massive scale.
James then enters the peach and begins his journey with all the personified insects that are already in
the peach. This light hearted children s novel by Roald Dahl has drastically impacted my life in the
most profound ways.
Roald Dahl was born on 13th of September 1916, in Llandaff, South Wales. Dahl attended Llandaff
Cathedral School as a young child, but due to his misbehavior and his mother s husband s wishes he
later transferred to St. Peter s, a British boarding school (A E Networks Television). The school s strict
rules and limitations caused for Dahl lively and imaginative youngster was restless and ached for
adventure (A E Networks Television). After graduating in 1932, against his mother s wishes he moved
to Africa and started working at a Shell Oil Company. Dahl continued to become a WWII pilot in
Nairobi, Kenya and later transferred to Washington, D.C. Dahl then married Patricia Neal and had five
children. After this time period he began writing short stories for adults.

Readers are educated on the double edged sword of being both black and a female. Walker does this
by by expressing how gender oppression complicates racial oppression. Black female characters not
only had to face slavery and racism but also sexism and abuse, mentally, physically and sexually. This
was encountered by both white and black male characters. The black males in the novel are portrayed
as cruel, as they live in a world where white men rule and feel like less of a man and because of this
they take out their anger and frustration on the black females. Walker starts her novel with Celie s
letter describing the brutal rape by her father. Walker writes He just say you gonna do what your

since they are married she is obligated to have sex with him whenever he wants, but when she wouldn

go to sleep. Mr__ also asserts his male dominance by beating her in front of people. Walker writes, He
beat me today cause he say I winked at a boy in church. I may have got something in my eye but I
didn t wink. I don t even look at mens, I m too scared of them. This quote shows how fearful Celie is
of the male character both black and white. She doesn t say i m scared of white men , she openly

reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should
still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major
contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was
added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product
to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of
methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube
