Color Blindness
Method
Participants
Psychology college students attending the University of California, Los Angeles were asked to
complete this experiment as a course requirement. The sample size was twenty one students. When
conducting the experiment, we did not ask if the students had any disabilities such as color blindness
or blindness. Every student just went through with the experiment without any questions being asked.
All participants were asked to be the experimenter and the subject of the study.
Design
A within subject design was used, which means that every person who participated was exposed to
both conditions or treatments. In this case, the participant served as the subject, but also as the person

In this case the treatment was whether the ink of the color and the word differ, such as the word blue
in the ink color red. For both posters, each word began with the same letter (e.g. boat and blue), color,
order of the same letter and color, number of syllables, and the number of letters per word were the
same. Mistakes made were not penalized, the participant was simply told that if they made a mistake
to fix it and move on. The participants not only served as subjects, but also experimenters. Once they
served both roles, they moved on to the next group. When the response time was said, the participant
was responsible for writing their own time. The experimenter was responsible for stopping and
starting the watch. Both rooms were in a controlled setting, the lighting, temperature, and the amount
of people inside the room were controlled. Room N and I were clearly labelled.
The words that were used in the control group were, starting from the left column: boat, yogurt, brain,
rat, and goose. The words used are five English words and the colors that were used were red, green,
yellow, black, and blue. This study was conducted at approximately 9:00 a.m on Wednesday April 5th.

Traditional Families In The 1800s
Families in History
There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several
centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within
a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The
biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth
century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included
as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a
husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging
ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent
homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Childhood was not considered a special time for development but rather a hurdle on the way to
adulthood. The goal was to get children speaking, reading, reasoning, and contributing to their family
s economic well being as quickly as possible. (Mintz 50) Many kids as young as six were working
outside of the home at the time. A cultural revolution began in the eighteenth century when many
middle class parents began to relish in their children s innocence and saw this a time to nurture mold
their children. As this form of parenting became the norm many parents began to have less children by
using birth control, thus giving the fewer children they had more of their attention. As time progressed
kids spent more time going to school rather than to work. Within the last 3 centuries Societal views
about methods of Child rearing, the nature of children s play, the ideal duration of schooling, the
participation of young people in work, and the demarcation points between childhood, adolescence,
and adulthood have shifted significantly. (Mintz

History of Trigonometry: An Introduction Trigonometry is useful in our world. By exploring where
these concepts come from provides an understanding in putting this mathematics to use. The term
Trigonometry comes from the Greek word trigon, meaning triangle and the Greek word meatria
meaning measurement. However it is not native to Greek in origin. The mathematics comes from

Though there is no trigonometry in the works of Euclid and Archimedes, there are theorems presented
in a geometric method that are similar to particular trigonometric laws or rules. Theorems on the
lengths of chords are applications of the law of sines. In addition Archimedes theorem on broken
chords is similar to rules for sines of sums and differences of angles. From the primitive landmarks of
shadow tables and the Greeks gain and expansion of astronomical knowledge from the Babylonians,
there was a gap in the improvement of trigonometry until the time of Hipparchus.
Hipparchus
The first trigonometric table was in fact compiled by Hipparchus of, who is known as an as the father
of trigonometry (Boyer, 1991). Hipparchus was the first to put into a table the corresponding values of
arc and chord for a series of angles. He did this by considering every triangle was inscribed in a circle
of fixed radius. Each side of the triangle became a chord, a straight line drawn between two points on
a circle. To find the parts of the triangle he needed to find the length of the chord as a function of the
central angle. [pic] For Example, in the diagram triangle ACB is inscribed in circle O. So the sides of
the triangle become chord AC, chord CB and chord AB. Hipparchus would have sought to find the
length of the chord, AC, as a function of the central angle. He deduced a trigonometric formula for
the length of a chord sketched from one

How does Sunset Boulevard represent the Hollywood Studio...
Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder in 1950 is based on how Norma Desmond, a huge
Hollywood star, deals with her fall from fame. The film explores the fantasy world in which Norma is
living in and the complex relationship between her and small time writer Joe Gillis, which leads to his
death. Sunset Boulevard is seen as lifting the face of the Hollywood Studio System to reveal the truth
behind the organisation. During the time the film was released in the 1950s and 60s, audiences started
to see the demise of Hollywood as cinema going began to decline and the fierce competition of
television almost proved too much for the well established system. Throughout this essay I will
discuss how Sunset Boulevard represents the Hollywood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film s main focus largely represents the Hollywood star system to which Norma Desmond is a
victim of. The film particularly highlights the fantasy world in which Norma lives in, the world where
she is the greatest star (Norma Desmond, Sunset Boulevard, 1950). Sunset Boulevard steps into
Norma s mixed up world where hundreds of photos of herself clutter her crumbling mansion and
where she watches herself on screen on a weekly basis. The crumbling and deteriorating mansion
could be seen as a metaphor for Norma s fall from stardom, the collapse of her career. The focus of
Norma s fame is a recurring theme throughout the film that is referenced in order to emphasise the
extent to which fame has affected Norma and her life. When Norma decides to talk to Cecil DeMille
about her script the young security guard questions her by saying Norma, who? as the younger
generation are unlikely to have heard of the actress. This further emphasises the harsh reality of fame
and in particular, Hollywood, as new actors and actresses are constantly churned out to appeal to the
audiences needs for the new Hollywood star . Besides the main focus of the star system, other
representations of the studio system are also apparent within the film, for example when Joe s
thoughts are expressed

Ethos Pathos Logos In We Shall Overcome Speech
On March 15, 1965, Lyndon Baines Johnson delivered We Shall Overcome in Washington, D.C.
(Kreitner, Richard.). According to the words in the speech, in certain parts of the country African
Americans did not have an equal right to vote. They would be informed that it was the incorrect day or
ridiculed with impossible questions, solely because they were black. Johnson spoke this speech with
integrity trying to conquer these racial discriminations and get the Voting Rights Act passed. He
stressed that accomplishing equal citizenship takes more than just legal right. He wanted to ensure
everyone that they were given an opportunity to escape poverty. The logos used in this speech are
strategically placed to convince the audience with reason. The Constitution says that no person shall
be kept from voting because of his race or his color. Hearing this information spoken out loud is more
effective than reading it on one s own. Lyndon Baines Johnson used these facts to ... Show more

Using pathos is the most influential appeal. Lyndon B. Johnson played with the audience s emotions to
support his cause. A century has passed, more than a hundred years, since equality was promised. And
yet the Negro is not equal. This statement helps the whites contemplate about how rough African
Americans lived. One hundred years crept by with a promise that had not been fulfilled. Supplying the
truth then hitting the audience with emotions automatically convinces people to think the same way.
Another great patho used was, There is no Negro problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no
Northern problem. There is only an American problem. Using an anaphora, this statement groups
everyone into the same category, American. The repetition of, there is, catches the audience s
attention. Consequently, making the whites listen and start to contemplate the idea that blacks are

Theories About Perfectionism And Suicidal Ideation, And...
The psychological study by Paul.L Hewitt and Gordon L.Flett investigated the theory about
perfectionism and suicidal ideation, and its dimensions on depressed adolescent patients. According to
this article, we could say that researchers used for this study correlational method, which comprises
sample data based on five independent variables such as perfectionism, stress, daily hassles,
hopelessness, and suicide potential. The sample data consisted of 55 adolescents, who completed the
procedures which have been associated with some indices of life stress, hopelessness, and one of the
main problems of adolescence which is suicide ideation and potential. In addition, that was also
attended by the parents of those teenagers who were interviewed to analyze their major stressful
situations. As a result, these methods are given to understand that there are two models of
perfectionism, such as self oriented perfectionism, which is not correlated with suicide; and socially
prescribed perfectionism, which eventually showed that it is associated with a potential suicide.
Hierarchical regression also suggests that self oriented perfectionism is not much of a threat to commit
suicide, but socially prescribed perfectionism on the contrary has a link between suicide and
depression. These findings conclude that socially prescribed perfectionism is one of the serious
predictors of suicide attempt among adolescents in depression. There are five independent

arranging foods on a plate. Strike a balance between overcrowding the plate and leaving large gaps of
space. Foods should not touch the plate rim nor necessarily be confined to the very center. Choose a
focal point for the plate, to which the eye is drawn (usually the highest point on the plate). Design the
plate with the highest point to the rear or center. Avoid placing foods of equal heights around the edge
of the plate, leaving a hole in the center the eye will naturally be drawn to that gap. The plate s
composition should flow naturally. For example, make the highest point the back of the plate and have
the rest of the food become gradually shorter toward the front of the plate. Slicing and fanning foods
can attract the eye and help establish flow. Sandwiches (OC, 788 790, 792 794) 6. What are the three

Use Of Penelope s Voice In The Odyssey

No Truth in Story telling
Margaret Atwood gives voice to Penelope, one of antiquity s most infamous heroines, so that she can
tell her story at last and set the record straight once and for all (Canongate). The quotation printed at
the back of The Penelopiad gives a concise motivation why Margaret Atwood writes the book:
Atwood uses Penelope s voice to tell the readers how she is wronged in Homer s Odyssey. Although
the narrator Penelope dominates the book, the twelve hanged maids also interpose their own opinion
in prose and rhymes. However, it is not hard for the readers to find out that the two perspectives
contradict one another, the maids voice is often used as a counterpoint to Penelope s, when it comes to
why the maids are hanged. Since The Penelopiad is all about Penelope, then why does Atwood
employ the maids voice which causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the mornings, our eyes darkened by lack of sleep, we d exchange smiles of complicity, and here and
there a quick squeeze of the hand...neither they nor I could take their servile behavior seriously (114 ).
From the vivid description of how close Penelope and the maids are, it can be seen that Penelope does
not only treat the maids with superiority, but also Penelope truly treats and loves the maids as if they
were sisters. Later, according to Penelope, when the suitors come, Penelope assigns the maids to be
her spies by ingratiating themselves with the suitors. When comes the turning point that Penelope
decides to tell the returning, furious Odysseus all about the plan, she is drugged to sleep. It was my
fault! (160). Throughout the whole book, Penelope frequently expresses her sorrow and dismay about
the hanging of the maids. It is as if Penelope herself were a victim in the hanging of the maids, she is
helpless and heartbroken when Odysseus kills her sister like

Why Is An Excused Act Morally Wrong
In war every combatant, just or unjust, poses a certain type of threat. On the two opposite ends of the
spectrum a combatant poses either a culpable threat or an excused threat. If a combatant poses a
culpable threat he poses a threat of wrongful harm to others and he is not justified, premised, nor
excused in his actions (McMahan 159). If a combatant poses an excused threat, he poses a justified
threat of harm and is therefore fully excused for his actions. In addition to the legality of a combatant s
actions, just war theory concerns itself with the morality of a combatant s actions. This is an important
fact to recognize because, often times, terms will have a slightly different moral definition than the
tradition legal definition with which average persons are familiar. Before proceeding any further, it is
of vast important to understand the terms excuse and permission as a just war theorists understands
them to mean. For the interest of this paper, when a combatant performs a wrongful act, whether it be
moral or legally wrong, but the combatant is not blameworthy, he is excused. (McMahan 110). Just
war theorists believe a combatant is premised to complete an action if the act is not morally wrong,
and cannot warrant a justifiable complaint. The important take away to remember is the victim of an
excused act would have a justifiable reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An excused action is still morally wrong. This is the key problem of failing to realize the difference
between permission and excuse in relation to the moral equality of combatants. People who fail to
realize the difference of these terms are lead to believe unjust combatants are acting in accordance
with moral law when they are excuses. Whereas in reality, unjust combatants are not to blame for their
actions if they are excused, but their actions are still morally wrong because just combatants are liable
to attack, when they are acting in accordance with the principles of jus in

The new Pharaoh s council was called about the situation with the Israelites and they gave him strong
advice to enslave the children of Israel so he could gain total control over this foreign race who were
becoming too powerful in a land where they were not wanted. Pharaoh limited the freedom of the
Hebrews and laid heavy taxes upon them. He then recruited their men into forced labour, slavery,
under the supervision of harsh taskmasters.
The children of Israel were now forced to build cities, erect monuments, construct roads, work in the
quarries, and hew stones or make bricks and tiles. However, the more the Egyptians oppressed them,
and the harder the restrictions imposed upon them became, the more the children of Israel multiplied.
Finally, when King Pharaoh saw that forcing the Hebrews to do hard work did not succeed in
suppressing their rapidly growing numbers, he ordered that all newly born male children of the
Hebrews to be killed, the midwives disobeyed and so they were made to throw the child into the Nile
river. Only daughters were allowed to live.
The Pharaoh grew paranoid, after being told by his personal astrologers, that a new leader of Egypt
was to be born from an Israelite. This was taken as a strong danger to the

The Effectiveness Of A Connection
The Effectiveness of a Connection in Relation to a Tragedy As art becomes more prevalent, intricate,
and sophisticated in culture so does its impact on a viewer. A viewer must experience a work of art
and connect to it in order for it to be considered effective. Ajax by Sophocles can be considered a
work of art because of its ability to connect to an audience. Sophocles play follows a warrior named
Ajax who was threatening to kill Odysseus to obtain the armor he believed was rightfully his, which
causes the goddess Athena to cast a curse leaving him blind with rage and in a state where he
slaughters hordes of animals believing that they are his enemies. Ajax later becomes distraught to the
point of suicide. Bryan Doerries produced a version of Ajax to relate to veterans through his company,
Theater of War. This company s specific purpose is to de stigmatize psychological injury, increase
awareness of post deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information regarding
available resources, and foster greater family community, and troop resilience through the
performance of Ancient Greek plays to military and civilian communities (Outside the Wire). Because
of this purpose, the audience is able to form an intense connection with Ajax and fulfill the purpose of
art. While looking at Aristotle s Theory of Tragedy and the six most important features of a tragedy, it
becomes apparent that connection through all six features is the only way to create effective art.

History and Features of Cloud Computing
Many of the techniques of cloud computing, or cloud networking as it often was called, were
developed in the 1950s at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bell
Laboratories, University of Maryland, and a few other research facilities, with application to satellite
imagery, wire photo standards conversion, medical imaging, videophone, character recognition, and
photograph enhancement.[1] The cost of processing was fairly high, however, with the computing
equipment of that era. That changed in the 1970s, when digital image processing proliferated as
cheaper computers and dedicated hardware became available. Images then could be processed in real
time, for some dedicated problems such as television standards conversion. As general purpose
computers became faster, they started to take over the role of dedicated hardware for all but the most
specialized and computer intensive operations. With the fast computers and signal processors available
in the 2000s, cloud computing become the most common form of data storage and generally, is used
because it is not only the most versatile method, but also the cheapest. Some of the features of cloud
commuting that gave it an edge over prevalent technologies in computing are :  Agility improves
with users ability to re provision technological infrastructure resources.  Application programming
interface (API) accessibility to software that enables machines to interact with cloud software in the

It is no longer deemed a safe way to bring in a show with lots of preview performances due to the fact
that as soon as an audience have seen the first preview they are able to write on many different
platforms their opinions, whether they be positive or negative critique. James Seabright suggests in his
book So You Want To Be A Theatre Producer? that it needs to be the producers main concern that the
show is ready for public viewing from the day of the first preview as it is so much easier to get word
around about a show using the likes of Facebook and Twitter (Seabright, 2010). Although Andrew
Lloyd Webber was offended by this newfound love of social media, there is no embargo for paying
audiences (Sadler, 2014). It can either fall as a friend or a foe depending on how the audience receives
it, if Twitter and blogs are bursting with positivity then the producers need to use this to continue the
hype until reviews from critics are released, and if these don t speak too well then social media can
just be pushed even more (O Hanlon, 2014). It may start to become a matter of fact that previews are
more important than the official opening night. According to a survey conducted by Ticketmaster,
almost one quarter of theatre goers tweet about the performances they have seen proving that theatres

Nurse Driven, Sleep Hygiene Protocol, A Source Of Anxiety...
The inability to sleep is a source of anxiety and stress for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU); this
inability can lead to cardiorespiratory disturbances, immune system dysfunction, impaired wound
healing, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, cognitive changes, and delirium. Through the use of
quiet times and nursing actions that encourage sleep, or, sleep hygiene bundles, nurses can assist in
improving sleep quality in the ICU. These bundles include noise and light reduction, scheduling
routine procedures outside of reserved sleep times, the use of earplugs and eye masks, and the
grouping of nursing care activities to minimize sleep interruptions. The aim of this proposal, therefore,
will be to implement a nurse driven, sleep hygiene protocol, in order to improve patient care by
promoting quality sleep in ICU patients. Barriers to implementation include staff resistance to the
concept, concerns regarding patient care during sleep times and difficulties in coordinating care with
other units. Studies used to gather information for this proposal were published between the years of
2011 and 2016 and were found in several databases: Academic Search Complete, Medline, and OVID

House Of Flying Daggers And Curse Of The Golden Flower By...
Zhang Yimou directed both the critically acclaimed House of Flying Daggers and the visual
masterpiece Curse of the Golden Flower, movies with wuxia influences which are not only popular
locally, but overseas as well. Yimou infuses his films with several themes that reinforce the Chinese
tradition of upholding social, political, and natural norms. Despite their differences and due to their
similarities, House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Golden Flower emphasize the importance of
obeying authority and maintaining harmony in Chinese culture.
The theme of desire, although different kinds, is evident in both films. A story about three ill fated
lovers, House of Flying Daggers begins with a beautiful performance by Zhang Ziyi. She flits back
and forth lyrically in a show of dance and unmistakable talent. She is not what she seems. The
melodic harmony of the instrumental accompaniment strikes a strong contrast against the phrases she
sings softly, albeit slightly out of key. Zhang, the main love interest, croons about the pursuit of a
single woman by two enemy states, paralleling the conflict of the story itself. The central conflict of
House of Flying Daggers raises several issues. Can a person authentically love more than one person?
What is the cost of romantic pursuits, and is that price worth the sacrifice made? Unfortunately, this
desire that defies the natural order of things, an unconventional threesome, so to speak, ends only in
pain and heartbreak. On the other

Othello s Diverse Themes Essay
Othello s Diverse Themes
Othello is one of William Shakespeare s tragedies which thrives on a group of themes. Let s see if we
can sort them out and determine the dominant ones from the lesser ones.
The pain which the audience experiences is no accident, but rather one of the themes written into the
play. Critic Caroline Spurgeon in Shakespeare s Imagery and What it Tells Us explains the significant
contribution which imagery makes to the theme of pain and unpleasantness running through the play:
The main image in Othello is that of animals in action, preying upon one another, mischievous,
lascivious, cruel or suffering, and through these, the general sense of pain and unpleasantness is much
increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nor is this all. Such jealousy as Othello s converts human nature into chaos, and liberates the beast in
man; and it does this in relation to one of the most intense and also the most ideal of human feelings.
(169)
Of course, jealousy of a non sexual nature torments the antagonist, the ancient, to the point that he
ruins those around him and himself. Francis Ferguson in Two Worldviews Echo Each Other describes:
On the contrary, in the world of his philosophy and his imagination, where his spirit lives, there is no
cure for passion. He is, behind his mask, as restless as a cage of those cruel and lustful monkeys that
he mentions so often. It has been pointed out that he has no intelligible plan for destroying Othello,
and he never asks himself what good it will do him to ruin so many people. It is enough for him that
he hates the Moor. . . .(133)
Act 1 Scene 1 opens with an expression of jealousy and hatred: Roderigo is upbraiding Iago because
of the elopement of the object of his affections Desdemona with the Moor: Thou told st me thou didst
hold him in thy hate. Iago responds with an expression of hatred, saying that he does indeed hate the
general because he Nonsuits my mediators; for, Certes, says he, / I have already chose my officer. Lily
B. Campbell in Shakespeare s Tragic Heroes indicates the palpable hatred:
It is then on a theme of

Additionally, it offers a recipe function via the interactive display located on the door, which is
conveniently connected to the user s smartphone through a cloud computing. This smart technology
ceases the days of forgetting products in the fridge and limited immediate access to recipes. In the
following part I will introduce the features of the SmartFridge in detail.
Laser system
The laser system integrated into our product is the main innovation. It enables the exact determination
of which products are located inside the fridge and these are arranged clearly on the display. The laser
system captures the barcode of the products in order to obtain the information needed. Thereby it also
determines the expiration date. Products that are expiring soon are highlighted in order to ensure a
quick consumption. Products that do not have a barcode, such as fruits, can make use of the silk sensor
technology that allows the laser to capture the products as well. Finally, a manual entry of products
can be made via smartphone or at the display.
Heat regulator
The heat regulator enables the constant maintenance of an adequate temperature. This prevents
products located at the top section from freezing while other products at the bottom section are not
kept cool. As a result, the temperature in the overall storing area of the SmartFridge

Cuban Revolution Research Paper
The Cuban revolution was lead by Fidel Castro and was known to be an armed rebellion against the
Cuban government whose dictator at the time was Fulgencio Batista. This event was found to have
taken place from July 26th, 1953 January 1st, 1959. During a heated election, Sergeant Fulgencio
Batista took supremacy which caused the revolution that began in 1952. It had begun to dawn on
Batista that he may lose the election which caused him to take power before the election could take
place. The elections were canceled there after. Many individuals were aghast by this command of
power, this included Fidel Castro. Castro was likely to have won the elections if the electrons had

In order for him to get his revenge he needed weapons. With this thought, he chose his target to be
Moncada barracks which was a perfectly secluded location. Castro s plan was to have one hundred
and thirty eight men attack the compound at dawn and anticipated that the element of surprise would
makeup for their lack of numbers and weaponry. The strike was a disaster and the rebels were
overpowered after only a handful of hours. Many individuals were taken captured and nineteen federal
soldiers were killed. The ones that had survived took their hatred out on the rebels that were captured
during the attack. Later, a public trial took place with Castro and the rebels who had survived. The
trial turned into a topic of power grab when Castro turned the tables on the Batista totalitarianism.
Fidel s case during trial, was that he had taken actions against the government because he felt it was
his civic duty. The government continuously told him to be quiet and told him he didn t know what he
was talking about during his speeches because they thought he was too ill to attend his own trial. On a

The Importance Of Censorship Content On The Internet
With the rise of the Internet, it has given everyone opportunities to stay better connected in the world
today and to be entertained. This has led to the creation of sites like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter,
Reddit, Google, and so many more. A lot of big companies have implemented the internet, making
them more successful and giving them a wider reach for business. With all this freedom, however, this
leads to inappropriate content being on the internet as well. There is an abundance of violent and
sexual content on the internet just like with older media, like movies and music. The difference is that
this unsuitable content is more accessible than before the invention of the internet. This has caused
discussion about whether or not the internet should be censored, and if so, to what extent. While it is
understandable why people do not want inappropriate content around them in a more accessible way,
allowing the bad content lets the good content be just as accessible as well. The Internet should not be
censored for violent and sexual content because this silences voices that have the right to be heard and
slows creativity and originality in art and entertainment. Additionally, silencing freedom of speech
takes voices away from the people and gives it to the richest and powerful.
Censoring the Internet would be taking away freedom of speech for the average internet user. The
largest internet censorship system is in China, which censors anything harmless to the Chinese

Literary Techniques Used In Beowulf
In the epic poem Beowulf , Beowulf himself used a variety of unique and smart methods and ways to
win and defeat the monster s that tormented Herrot. One method he used to defeat and kill one of his
enemies was with the element of surprise and with no weapon. Another method he used to defeat and
kill another one of his enemies was by going in right through the front door of the enemy s lair. His
method to that was originally thought of to kill his last enemy didn t work out so well and had to get
help from a loyal and brave warrior, Wiglaf. Beowulf was constantly changing his methods and
strategy s to win the battles and obstacles that he was confronted with.
One method Beowulf used, to find and kill Grendel, was with the element of surprise and with his
bare hands. Beowulf s method and plan to kill Grendel was to lure him to him, surprise Grendel, and
finally, attack and kill Grendel. Beowulf lured in Grendel by staying in the Mead Hall, where he knew
Grendel would search for something to kill. Then, to get Grendel distracted, he sacrificed one of his
own warriors to get eaten so Grendel would have his focus on the warrior he was eating and
murdering. Finally, when Beowulf saw the perfect time to attack and kill Grendel, he took it. Beowulf

children and adults are afflicted with one or more symptoms of CP. Around 8,000 infants and babies
are diagnosed each year and 1,200 1,500 preschool age children are recognized with symptoms of CP
(www.ucp.org). This condition is caused by abnormal development of areas of the brain that control
movement and posture (www.ucp.org). It can also be caused by damage to the brain (usually because
of head injury during the birthing process) or diseases/infections the mother has during pregnancy
such as German measles, rubella, bacterial meningitis, or viral encephalitis. Other risk factors may be

is difficult for them to move quickly or make specific movements. Writing and buttoning their own
shirt can be a difficult task for people with ataxic CP. A tremor in the body part they are attempting to
use can be present as well. CP can also be present as a mixed form. This means the patient can have a
combination of each of the previous forms. There are many challenges that come with being
diagnosed with any type of cerebral palsy. Children with CP may have a problem controlling the
muscles in their mouth. Things we take for granted such as eating and talking can be very difficult for
children with CP. They may need assistance eating and may use other forms of communication.
Problems with breathing can also affect the child s ability to speak. Some children with CP also have
seizures or convulsions. This can be a result of abnormal brain activity. These seizures can completely
interrupt their activity. They can stare off in space or lose complete control of their body. Medication
is prescribed to those that need it. Children with

How the French Presidential Elections will Affect the Entire World
After rejecting the two major political parties in the first round, the French voters will choose their
new president. What will the election result mean for the world?
After the Brexit results in the UK and Trump s election in the US, France is next to face the challenge
of elections on May the 7th for their second round. Debating the subject is William Callanan, 45, an
American citizen living in Britain for the last 15 years and partner at Keysquare Capital Management.
He agreed in an interview to share his opinion on how the French elections will have a major impact
across the world. But first, let s meet the candidates.

Callanan thinks Macron will align with Fillon on the centre right, making Le pen garner less votes,
suggesting the first round s outcome is an indication of what the ending bias will likely be.
Will a new president be the end of old politics in France? Just over a month after the new president
will be elected, she/he will start building their coalition in the Assembly Nationale. It will be a real
challenge for both, says Callanan as a new party has never gained a majority. He paused. But Macron
has a better chance than Le Pen.
One important issue that the new president will need to address is on the national security, as terrorist
attacks are at their peek right now in France. While Le Pen is focused on immigration, Macron is
focused on adding 50,000 police and specialised training. When asked who will appeal more to the
public, Callanan said people become more accustomed to these events and the shock effect is
mitigated. Think of what it is like living in Beirut...
Will Le Pen s claim of deporting all foreigners suspected of a connection to radical Islamism make
France safer? Definitely not, replied Mr. Callanan, on the contrary, the anti immigration and anti Islam
stance can be taken too far and be counter productive.
Le Pen has said that France should be less naive as it became a jihadi university. Will her presidency

Introduction It is matter of fact that the modern day workplace environment is changing at a very high
rate. The change is brought about by organizations need to incorporate new and innovative strategies
and models. For business entities, the new models and strategies present both opportunities and
benefits. For instance, the decision by most organizations to embrace diversity provides them with a
lot of opportunities in using the diverse knowledge and skills to their advantage. At the same time, the
issue of diversity brings about several challenges especially in managing employees from different
cultural and religious backgrounds. Despite the challenges that the constant changes in the workplace
environment offer to organizations, these changes have an overall positive impact on their growth and
development (Creasey Hiatt, 2003).
Body
The role of innovation in executing change strategies
When an organization is implementing change, there is usually resistance from its members. The
resistance is usually brought about by the members fear of the uncertainties related with the change.
For instance, there are instances when some organization members fear that the changes might lead to
them losing their jobs. In order to avoid such fears, leaders are supposed to employ innovation when it
comes to implementing change.
One of the innovation ways the management needs to use in implementing change is through

Comparing Stoppard s Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, And Dead
In addition, Stoppard s work makes it clear that Rosencrantz, Guildenstern and Hamlet all think about
the absurd an idea that goes hand in hand with existentialist views. Jean Paul Sartre an existentialist
wrote in an essay that, to say that we invent values means nothing else but this: life has no meaning,
(Sartre). This is the absurd, that life has no meaning even if the individual comes up with their own
values. This is the exactly what Guildenstern realizes when he says, We ve travelled too far, and our
momentum has taken over; we move idly towards eternity, without possibility of reprieve or hope of
explanation, (Stoppard, 121). Guildenstern has come to the realization that life is essential a slow
march to death. Life has no meaning and in the end everyone will die. Guildenstern is basically saying
that he and Rosencrantz might as well stay on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both characters are contemplating suicide because they can not find meaning in life, viewing life from
an absurdist perspective. This demonstrates that both characters are existential as Hamlet views life as
meaningless and he needs to define his own purpose, which he does when he avenges his father s
murder. Rosencrantz has been at the mercy of others actions for the entirety of the play and has no free
will of his own, so he views life as absurd. What he does not realize is that he is merely just an actor
or an object whose purpose preceded his existence. All three characters Hamlet, Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern view life as meaningless and without a purpose at different parts in both Shakespeare s
Hamlet and Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Viewing life as meaningless when
not having a purpose is a key part of the existential philosophy. Stoppard s work extends this idea and
further proved that Hamlet is an existential

Title
There are a few symbols that serve a purpose throughout the novel. The novel is opened with Bigger
attempting to kill a rat that has entered his family s apartment. First, the rat allows the audience to see
the conditions the Thomas family lives in, which is crowded. Secondly, the rat symbolizes Bigger s
fear and anger towards his life. He tries to kill and get rid of the rat, just as he tries to suppress his
fears. Thirdly, Bigger, much like the rat is concerned and powerless. Bigger is powerless and forced to
take the job at the Dalton home. He is angry that he did not have any other alternative but the job as a
chauffeur. Bigger has now taken the responsibility of providing for his family, a responsibility he did
not want to partake in (Demiturk 1). Finally, the rat symbolizes the first death in the novel, and
essentially prepares the audience for the later killings (Tremaine 5). Another symbol is Bigger as a
Christ figure. Subsequently, Bigger is crucified by the white society while reaching a sense of
liberation (Butler, tone 4). Bigger feels relieved and experiences a feeling he had never felt before. He
felt as if he has found a purpose. Finally, one of the major symbols is blindness. The Daltons are blind
to their own motives, and only driven by guilt (Butler, tone 5). Mr. Dalton is blind in regards to the
financial and social frameworks in which he takes an interest. He has acquired his wealth not by
exhibiting great character, but rather abusing

The Factors Of Air Resistance And Frictivity
Air resistance is the frictional force that an object has on air. Friction is resistance of an object s
surface. The amount of air resistance an object has is reflected on the speed of the object that has been
dropped. Weight does not affect how fast an object falls. A plastic bag weighs about 5.5 grams. A
piece of printer paper weighs about 4.5 grams. A handkerchief weighs about 3 ounces per square yard.
Gravity drops all objects in the same was regardless of their mass or build structure
(kidsdiscover.com). Gravity is the force pulling down an object that comes in the way. Acceleration is
the change of speed or direction. The amount of mass something has is its weight which determines
the amount of a downward gravity force it experiences. A falling object will continue to accelerate
until air resistance force becomes more to balance the force that s bringing the object
(physicsclassroom.com). Isaac Newton s 1st law of motion; an object has to stay in place unless it
comes in contact with another object which causes force or a push for the objects to start to move. An
object at rest stays in place unless a force is brought to it. 2nd law; force equals mass times
acceleration (F=ma). 3rd law; every action has the same opposite reaction towards the first action.
Generally increasing temperature lowers the density and viscosity, so it decreases the air resistance

Athletic endeavors have long been an integral part of human society from some of the earliest
development of civilization. Sports have always served as a metaphor for life and the triumphs of
human performance which are readily displayed by many historical and contemporary competitors are
the subject of praise and admiration for millions of people. Thus, professional athletes occupy a
surprisingly important position in world culture and their exploits can have wide reaching
consequences that extend far beyond their field of competition. This is the basis of the case Sandel

Conversely, if this kind of devaluation of human virtue and character does occur it is likely that
respect for all human achievement will also be cheapened. It is hard to imagine that the ability to

from the admiration of natural human abilities focused in other endeavors as well. For instance the
value that is placed in art, literature, music, poetry and the like is intrinsically linked to the human
creativity that is represented by the respective works. Therefore, the significance that is attributed to
these cultural building blocks may also be denigrated as a part of the domino effect caused by doping

I believe that giving is greater than receiving. Being able to live in Johnson County is a blessing. We

William Blake s The Lamb Essay
The Lamb William Blake
Summary
The poem begins with the question, quot;Little Lamb, who made thee? quot; The speaker, a child, asks
the lamb about its origins: how it came into being, how it acquired its particular manner of feeding, its
quot;clothing quot; of wool, its quot;tender voice. quot; In the next stanza, the speaker attempts a
riddling answer to his own question: the lamb was made by one who quot;calls himself a Lamb, quot;
one who resembles in his gentleness both the child and the lamb. The poem ends with the child
bestowing a blessing on the lamb.

The answer is presented as a puzzle or riddle, and even though it is an easy one child s play this also
contributes to an underlying sense of ironic knowingness or artifice in the poem. The child s answer,
however, reveals his confidence in his simple Christian faith and his innocent acceptance of its
teachings.
The lamb of course symbolizes Jesus. The traditional image of Jesus as a lamb underscores the
Christian values of gentleness, meekness, and peace. The image of the child is also associated with
Jesus: in the Gospel, Jesus displays a special solicitude for children, and the Bible s depiction of Jesus
in his childhood shows him as guileless and vulnerable. These are also the characteristics from which
the child speaker approaches the ideas of nature and of God. This poem, like many of the Songs of
Innocence, accepts what Blake saw as the more positive aspects of conventional Christian belief. But
it does not provide a completely adequate doctrine, because it fails to account for the presence of
suffering and evil in the world. The pendant (or companion) poem to this one, found in the Songs of
Experience, is quot; The Tyger quot;; taken together, the two poems give a perspective on religion that
includes the good and clear as well as the terrible and inscrutable. These poems complement each
other to produce a fuller account

a hundred years. A New York City detective Bill Groneman wrote a book, Defense of a Legend:
Crockett and the de la Peña Diary, saying that the diary was a forgery by John A Laffite, a.k.a. John A.
Laflin. His argument was based on statements pertaining to the publication date of the diary (believed
to be in 1836). Crisp responded to this overlooking all outside sources and looked directly to the
source. The diary had two versions: a daily record of de la Peña s movements and de la Peña s
extension of the original, containing information he gathered after the war from other witnesses who
were there. De la Peña s Disagreements with the Mexican government landed him in jail, and he was
never able to successfully publish a copy of his journal. Crisp s interrogation into the original
document explained all of Groneman s and other disbeliever s disagreements with the

We Need To Reform Laws Regarding Marijuana Essay
Imagine that your only father is lying in a hospital bed with one of the many life threatening ailments.
The disease has left him with nothing but agonizing pain and he only has a short time to live. Wouldn t
you like to see him live the last weeks of his life not having to deal with the pain? Sure you would,
however, this would only be possible by the use of a drug called marijuana. Cancer patients smoke
marijuana to dispel the nausea and vomiting they get from chemotherapy and to alleviate pre treatment
anxiety. The drug was first recorded as a medicine in Chinese pharmacopoeia in 2727BC (CNN
Interactive). An AIDS patient might use marijuana to improve their appetite, while it also reduces the
muscle pain cause by Multiple Sclerosis. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t until the 1970 s that this law was questioned and medicinal uses were rediscovered due to the
increase in number of recreational users. On September 6, 1988, the DEA s chief administrative law
judge, Francis L. Young, declared that marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically
active substances known to man. The provisions of the Controlled Substances Act permit and require
the transfer of marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2. Judge Young s order that the marijuana be
transferred to Schedule 2 was rejected by the DEA (Nida Info Facts). If that s the case then how come
in California they are protected under a proposition 215 and in Arizona a proposition 200. These
propositions permit the use of medicinal marijuana by those in which it is prescribed and if you don t
have a prescription you can get caught by the police with a small quantity without going to jail. Critics
of the Proposition 215 in California say its wording is so vague it virtually legalizes pot for anyone
(Hedman). In my opinion that saves the state a lot of money by not wasting it on keeping potheads in
prison and use it for something California really needs like new roads. So why hasn t this proposition
come up in other states? It might have something to do with the same reason why same sex marriage
passed in one state but has

Neoliberalism And Video Games
What do Neoliberalism and video games have in common? Hegemony, as authors William K. Carroll,
Matthew Greeno, and Robert Cassar claim. Hegemony, a term coined by philosopher Antonio
Gramsci; is defined as consent that is given by a civil society (Carroll Greeno: 122). Through both
articles, hegemony is seen as playing an important role in benefiting the ruling class or the capitalists.
It consists of a specific set of ideas which produce an subconscious consensus among the population
of which they struggle to deviate from, due to the consequences which may arise if they choose to go
against policies which support the economic good of the neoliberal/capitalist system. As Cassar
explains in his article, not only does the ruling class use their power to reinforce hegemonic ideologies

video games) which individuals use leisurely to impose them as well. Carroll and Greeno argue how
consent through hegemony continues to sustain neoliberalism. They focus on three specific elements:
cultural fragmentation, dispossession and market insulation, and globalization from above. As
described by the authors, neoliberalism is comprised of elements such as privatization, globalization
or free trade , and the prevention of democracy intervening with business and economic growth. They
also point out that the goal of neoliberalism is to restore the optimal conditions for capital
accumulations (Carroll Greeno 126), even if it means that it serves as a hindrance to social safety nets
such as welfare, housing, and public pensions. Essentially, neoliberalism which is considerably the
modern form of capitalism, benefits the ruling class ; through the exploitation of the working class. It
is argued that

Why Is Assisted Suicide Legalized
If Assisted Suicide was to become a law that the states can use it a lot of people with illnesses would
die. This means that their family member would be in great grief to find that their family member
decided that they wanted to die. The problem is that patients of doctors with illnesses might choose to
die if Assisted Suicide is legalized in the States. A possible solution that could occur is that it could
become illegal in the States, so that patients could not make a rash decision to kill themselves with
drugs. Another possible solution could be that they could only make the decision if their family
members and relatives agree. Also, they could only choose this with relative approval if they are 18 or
older. If Assisted Suicide is legalized, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A possible solution to assisted suicide would be to stop it in every state in the US. This helps this issue
by stopping people from giving them the choice of assisted suicide. Which would lead to less deaths
from this issue.
Using lethal drugs to kill someone should be illegal in the US. Another, possible solution for this
could be to not use drugs to kill someone without any direction on self administration. This helps this
issue by not killing patients with drugs at their own home. This also helps people try to survive their
terminal illness instead of just giving up.
If assisted suicide becomes a law that is legalized that doctors and physicians patients will die if they
choose to. Assisted suicide means a situation in which a physician provides the means of death for a
gravely ill patient but the patient takes the final step. This is a problem because it s killing patients
with lethal drugs or killing patients with Euthanasia. Some solutions are to stop this in the US or give
them hope to make them want to live. This is not a situation to be taken lightly this should be stopped
because if it is not than people will die by doctors that are supposed to help people survive. People
should help stop this with the rest of the protestors. People should help save a live from a person with
terminal illnesses, they should help save a family from

Climate Change And Trout Ecosystems
Increasing temperatures are an immediate threat to the earth and its many diverse ecosystems. Our
group chose to take an in depth look at the effects of climate change on freshwater fish species,
specifically on the rising air and freshwater temperatures and how they affect a cold water dwelling
fish species such as the trout. We will explore how the distribution of trout has changed over time with
rising temperatures, how fires due to climate change affect trout populations, and lastly what the
economic impacts of increased water temperatures will be on fisheries. Trout distribution is incredibly
susceptible to climate change. According to a report issued by PNAS, various trout species, including
the cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only way to save these trout is to ultimately improve human s effect on the environment in order
to help save these fish. The rising temperatures are the main reason these fish have had a declining
rate, and one way we as humans can help is by limiting our carbon emissions and the burning of fossil
fuels. It will be a tough task, but possibly putting a cap and trade, basically a tariff on emissions, is
one way in which we could help stop the emissions and eventually help global temperatures fall. The
higher global temperatures rise, the more species we will eventually lose, and trout are just one

Pablo Picasso s Boy With A Pipe
Growing up I was infatuated with art, I love the creativity that a person could bring to any piece of
work. While looking through many paintings, I came across one that caught not only my eye, but
many others. The name of this Painting is Boy with a Pipe, created by one of the greatest artist in the
world, Pablo Picasso. This representational painting was created in the year of 1905 when Picasso was
24 years old (Daluwatta). This Painting is representational because, the oil that is on the canvas
depicts a young white Persian boy who is holding a pipe in his left hand and also wearing some type
of headband of flowers around his head. Picasso lived in Le Bateau Lavoir in Montmartre when he
created this mister piece. Picasso called the young white boy Little Louise, he had spent much time in
the studio while he was creating this painting. (Lu). There are many people that say that the boy who

Picasso choice was to go with the boy sitting down. Next step in his process was see how he was
going to position the arm. This is where Picasso spent most his time trying to get the height just right.
In my opinion I believe this piece of work doesn t really show how any other object is being used
besides the pipe and a head band of flowers. The Pipe, which is a symbol for the intellectual also
relating in nineteenth and twentieth century type of painting. It looks like its being held by the artist
outside the painting as he wonder about the image, although it s held by the model inside the painting.
It is believed that Picasso is imagining his own alter ego while holding his own pipe and that the boy
is a reflection of Picasso (Chipp). In my opinion this work depict a very young boy that represent
intelligent and wealthy kids in the late 19th and early 20th century mood and everyone would be

  • 3. Traditional Families In The 1800s Families in History There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... The goal was to get children speaking, reading, reasoning, and contributing to their family s economic well being as quickly as possible. (Mintz 50) Many kids as young as six were working outside of the home at the time. A cultural revolution began in the eighteenth century when many middle class parents began to relish in their children s innocence and saw this a time to nurture mold their children. As this form of parenting became the norm many parents began to have less children by using birth control, thus giving the fewer children they had more of their attention. As time progressed kids spent more time going to school rather than to work. Within the last 3 centuries Societal views about methods of Child rearing, the nature of children s play, the ideal duration of schooling, the participation of young people in work, and the demarcation points between childhood, adolescence, and adulthood have shifted significantly. Though there is no trigonometry in the works of Euclid and Archimedes, there are theorems presented in a geometric method that are similar to particular trigonometric laws or rules. Theorems on the lengths of chords are applications of the law of sines. In addition Archimedes theorem on broken chords is similar to rules for sines of sums and differences of angles. From the primitive landmarks of shadow tables and the Greeks gain and expansion of astronomical knowledge from the Babylonians, there was a gap in the improvement of trigonometry until the time of Hipparchus. Hipparchus The first trigonometric table was in fact compiled by Hipparchus of, who is known as an as the father of trigonometry (Boyer, 1991). Hipparchus was the first to put into a table the corresponding values of arc and chord for a series of angles. He did this by considering every triangle was inscribed in a circle of fixed radius. Each side of the triangle became a chord, a straight line drawn between two points on a circle. To find the parts of the triangle he needed to find the length of the chord as a function of the central angle. [pic] For Example, in the diagram triangle ACB is inscribed in circle O. So the sides of the triangle become chord AC, chord CB and chord AB. Hipparchus would have sought to find the length of the chord, AC, as a function of the central angle. He deduced a trigonometric formula for the length of a chord sketched from one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. How does Sunset Boulevard represent the Hollywood Studio... Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder in 1950 is based on how Norma Desmond, a huge Hollywood star, deals with her fall from fame. The film explores the fantasy world in which Norma is living in and the complex relationship between her and small time writer Joe Gillis, which leads to his death. Sunset Boulevard is seen as lifting the face of the Hollywood Studio System to reveal the truth behind the organisation. During the time the film was released in the 1950s and 60s, audiences started to see the demise of Hollywood as cinema going began to decline and the fierce competition of television almost proved too much for the well established system. The film s main focus largely represents the Hollywood star system to which Norma Desmond is a victim of. The film particularly highlights the fantasy world in which Norma lives in, the world where she is the greatest star (Norma Desmond, Sunset Boulevard, 1950). Sunset Boulevard steps into Norma s mixed up world where hundreds of photos of herself clutter her crumbling mansion and where she watches herself on screen on a weekly basis. The crumbling and deteriorating mansion could be seen as a metaphor for Norma s fall from stardom, the collapse of her career. The focus of Norma s fame is a recurring theme throughout the film that is referenced in order to emphasise the extent to which fame has affected Norma and her life. When Norma decides to talk to Cecil DeMille about her script the young security guard questions her by saying Norma, who? as the younger generation are unlikely to have heard of the actress. This further emphasises the harsh reality of fame and in particular, Hollywood, as new actors and actresses are constantly churned out to appeal to the audiences needs for the new Hollywood star . Besides the main focus of the star system, other representations of the studio system are also apparent within the film, for example when Joe s thoughts are expressed ... According to the words in the speech, in certain parts of the country African Americans did not have an equal right to vote. They would be informed that it was the incorrect day or ridiculed with impossible questions, solely because they were black. Johnson spoke this speech with integrity trying to conquer these racial discriminations and get the Voting Rights Act passed. He stressed that accomplishing equal citizenship takes more than just legal right. He wanted to ensure everyone that they were given an opportunity to escape poverty. The logos used in this speech are strategically placed to convince the audience with reason. The Constitution says that no person shall be kept from voting because of his race or his color. The psychological study by Paul.L Hewitt and Gordon L.Flett investigated the theory about perfectionism and suicidal ideation, and its dimensions on depressed adolescent patients. According to this article, we could say that researchers used for this study correlational method, which comprises sample data based on five independent variables such as perfectionism, stress, daily hassles, hopelessness, and suicide potential. The sample data consisted of 55 adolescents, who completed the procedures which have been associated with some indices of life stress, hopelessness, and one of the main problems of adolescence which is suicide ideation and potential. In addition, that was also attended by the parents of those teenagers who were interviewed to analyze their major stressful situations. As a result, these methods are given to understand that there are two models of perfectionism, such as self oriented perfectionism, which is not correlated with suicide; and socially prescribed perfectionism, which eventually showed that it is associated with a potential suicide. Hierarchical regression also suggests that self oriented perfectionism is not much of a threat to commit suicide, but socially prescribed perfectionism on the contrary has a link between suicide and depression. These findings conclude that socially prescribed perfectionism is one of the serious predictors of suicide attempt among adolescents in depression. There are five independent ... The quotation printed at the back of The Penelopiad gives a concise motivation why Margaret Atwood writes the book: Atwood uses Penelope s voice to tell the readers how she is wronged in Homer s Odyssey. Although the narrator Penelope dominates the book, the twelve hanged maids also interpose their own opinion in prose and rhymes. However, it is not hard for the readers to find out that the two perspectives contradict one another, the maids voice is often used as a counterpoint to Penelope s, when it comes to why the maids are hanged. • 11. Why Is An Excused Act Morally Wrong In war every combatant, just or unjust, poses a certain type of threat. On the two opposite ends of the spectrum a combatant poses either a culpable threat or an excused threat. If a combatant poses a culpable threat he poses a threat of wrongful harm to others and he is not justified, premised, nor excused in his actions (McMahan 159). If a combatant poses an excused threat, he poses a justified threat of harm and is therefore fully excused for his actions. In addition to the legality of a combatant s actions, just war theory concerns itself with the morality of a combatant s actions. This is an important fact to recognize because, often times, terms will have a slightly different moral definition than the tradition legal definition with which average persons are familiar. Before proceeding any further, it is of vast important to understand the terms excuse and permission as a just war theorists understands them to mean. For the interest of this paper, when a combatant performs a wrongful act, whether it be moral or legally wrong, but the combatant is not blameworthy, he is excused. (McMahan 110). Just war theorists believe a combatant is premised to complete an action if the act is not morally wrong, and cannot warrant a justifiable complaint. The children of Israel were now forced to build cities, erect monuments, construct roads, work in the quarries, and hew stones or make bricks and tiles. However, the more the Egyptians oppressed them, and the harder the restrictions imposed upon them became, the more the children of Israel multiplied. • 14. The Effectiveness Of A Connection The Effectiveness of a Connection in Relation to a Tragedy As art becomes more prevalent, intricate, and sophisticated in culture so does its impact on a viewer. A viewer must experience a work of art and connect to it in order for it to be considered effective. Ajax by Sophocles can be considered a work of art because of its ability to connect to an audience. Sophocles play follows a warrior named Ajax who was threatening to kill Odysseus to obtain the armor he believed was rightfully his, which causes the goddess Athena to cast a curse leaving him blind with rage and in a state where he slaughters hordes of animals believing that they are his enemies. Ajax later becomes distraught to the point of suicide. Bryan Doerries produced a version of Ajax to relate to veterans through his company, Theater of War. This company s specific purpose is to de stigmatize psychological injury, increase awareness of post deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information regarding available resources, and foster greater family community, and troop resilience through the performance of Ancient Greek plays to military and civilian communities (Outside the Wire). Because of this purpose, the audience is able to form an intense connection with Ajax and fulfill the purpose of art. While looking at Aristotle s Theory of Tragedy and the six most important features of a tragedy, it becomes apparent that connection through all six features is the only way to create effective art. ... • 15. History and Features of Cloud Computing Many of the techniques of cloud computing, or cloud networking as it often was called, were developed in the 1950s at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bell Laboratories, University of Maryland, and a few other research facilities, with application to satellite imagery, wire photo standards conversion, medical imaging, videophone, character recognition, and photograph enhancement.[1] The cost of processing was fairly high, however, with the computing equipment of that era. That changed in the 1970s, when digital image processing proliferated as cheaper computers and dedicated hardware became available. Images then could be processed in real time, for some dedicated problems such as television standards conversion. As general purpose computers became faster, they started to take over the role of dedicated hardware for all but the most specialized and computer intensive operations. With the fast computers and signal processors available in the 2000s, cloud computing become the most common form of data storage and generally, is used because it is not only the most versatile method, but also the cheapest. Some of the features of cloud commuting that gave it an edge over prevalent technologies in computing are :  Agility improves with users ability to re provision technological infrastructure resources.  Application programming interface (API) accessibility to software that enables machines to interact with cloud software in the same way ... It is no longer deemed a safe way to bring in a show with lots of preview performances due to the fact that as soon as an audience have seen the first preview they are able to write on many different platforms their opinions, whether they be positive or negative critique. James Seabright suggests in his book So You Want To Be A Theatre Producer? that it needs to be the producers main concern that the show is ready for public viewing from the day of the first preview as it is so much easier to get word around about a show using the likes of Facebook and Twitter (Seabright, 2010). The inability to sleep is a source of anxiety and stress for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU); this inability can lead to cardiorespiratory disturbances, immune system dysfunction, impaired wound healing, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, cognitive changes, and delirium. Through the use of quiet times and nursing actions that encourage sleep, or, sleep hygiene bundles, nurses can assist in improving sleep quality in the ICU. These bundles include noise and light reduction, scheduling routine procedures outside of reserved sleep times, the use of earplugs and eye masks, and the grouping of nursing care activities to minimize sleep interruptions. The aim of this proposal, therefore, will be to implement a nurse driven, sleep hygiene protocol, in order to improve patient care by promoting quality sleep in ICU patients. Barriers to implementation include staff resistance to the concept, concerns regarding patient care during sleep times and difficulties in coordinating care with other units. Studies used to gather information for this proposal were published between the years of 2011 and 2016 and were found in several databases: Academic Search Complete, Medline, and OVID Journals. Zhang Yimou directed both the critically acclaimed House of Flying Daggers and the visual masterpiece Curse of the Golden Flower, movies with wuxia influences which are not only popular locally, but overseas as well. Yimou infuses his films with several themes that reinforce the Chinese tradition of upholding social, political, and natural norms. Despite their differences and due to their similarities, House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Golden Flower emphasize the importance of obeying authority and maintaining harmony in Chinese culture. The theme of desire, although different kinds, is evident in both films. A story about three ill fated lovers, House of Flying Daggers begins with a beautiful performance by Zhang Ziyi. She flits back and forth lyrically in a show of dance and unmistakable talent. She is not what she seems. The melodic harmony of the instrumental accompaniment strikes a strong contrast against the phrases she sings softly, albeit slightly out of key. Zhang, the main love interest, croons about the pursuit of a single woman by two enemy states, paralleling the conflict of the story itself. The central conflict of House of Flying Daggers raises several issues. Can a person authentically love more than one person? What is the cost of romantic pursuits, and is that price worth the sacrifice made? Unfortunately, this desire that defies the natural order of things, an unconventional threesome, so to speak, ends only in pain and heartbreak. On the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Let s see if we can sort them out and determine the dominant ones from the lesser ones. The pain which the audience experiences is no accident, but rather one of the themes written into the play. Critic Caroline Spurgeon in Shakespeare s Imagery and What it Tells Us explains the significant contribution which imagery makes to the theme of pain and unpleasantness running through the play: The main image in Othello is that of animals in action, preying upon one another, mischievous, lascivious, cruel or suffering, and through these, the general sense of pain and unpleasantness is much increased ... Francis Ferguson in Two Worldviews Echo Each Other describes: On the contrary, in the world of his philosophy and his imagination, where his spirit lives, there is no cure for passion. He is, behind his mask, as restless as a cage of those cruel and lustful monkeys that he mentions so often. A lot of big companies have implemented the internet, making them more successful and giving them a wider reach for business. With all this freedom, however, this leads to inappropriate content being on the internet as well. The difference is that this unsuitable content is more accessible than before the invention of the internet. This has caused discussion about whether or not the internet should be censored, and if so, to what extent. While it is understandable why people do not want inappropriate content around them in a more accessible way, allowing the bad content lets the good content be just as accessible as well. The Internet should not be censored for violent and sexual content because this silences voices that have the right to be heard and slows creativity and originality in art and entertainment. The amount of air resistance an object has is reflected on the speed of the object that has been dropped. Weight does not affect how fast an object falls. A plastic bag weighs about 5.5 grams. A piece of printer paper weighs about 4.5 grams. A handkerchief weighs about 3 ounces per square yard. Gravity drops all objects in the same was regardless of their mass or build structure (kidsdiscover.com). Gravity is the force pulling down an object that comes in the way. • 40. We Need To Reform Laws Regarding Marijuana Essay Imagine that your only father is lying in a hospital bed with one of the many life threatening ailments. The disease has left him with nothing but agonizing pain and he only has a short time to live. Wouldn t you like to see him live the last weeks of his life not having to deal with the pain? Sure you would, however, this would only be possible by the use of a drug called marijuana. Cancer patients smoke marijuana to dispel the nausea and vomiting they get from chemotherapy and to alleviate pre treatment anxiety. The drug was first recorded as a medicine in Chinese pharmacopoeia in 2727BC (CNN Interactive). An AIDS patient might use marijuana to improve their appetite, while it also reduces the muscle pain cause by Multiple Sclerosis. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn t until the 1970 s that this law was questioned and medicinal uses were rediscovered due to the increase in number of recreational users. On September 6, 1988, the DEA s chief administrative law judge, Francis L. Young, declared that marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. The provisions of the Controlled Substances Act permit and require the transfer of marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2. Judge Young s order that the marijuana be transferred to Schedule 2 was rejected by the DEA (Nida Info Facts). If that s the case then how come in California they are protected under a proposition 215 and in Arizona a proposition 200. These propositions permit the use of medicinal marijuana by those in which it is prescribed and if you don t have a prescription you can get caught by the police with a small quantity without going to jail. Critics of the Proposition 215 in California say its wording is so vague it virtually legalizes pot for anyone (Hedman). In my opinion that saves the state a lot of money by not wasting it on keeping potheads in prison and use it for something California really needs like new roads. So why hasn t this proposition come up in other states? It might have something to do with the same reason why same sex marriage passed in one state but has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Neoliberalism And Video Games What do Neoliberalism and video games have in common? Hegemony, as authors William K. Carroll, Matthew Greeno, and Robert Cassar claim. Hegemony, a term coined by philosopher Antonio Gramsci; is defined as consent that is given by a civil society (Carroll Greeno: 122). Through both articles, hegemony is seen as playing an important role in benefiting the ruling class or the capitalists. It consists of a specific set of ideas which produce an subconscious consensus among the population of which they struggle to deviate from, due to the consequences which may arise if they choose to go against policies which support the economic good of the neoliberal/capitalist system. As Cassar explains in his article, not only does the ruling class use their power to reinforce hegemonic ideologies through multiple institutions but ... They focus on three specific elements: cultural fragmentation, dispossession and market insulation, and globalization from above. As described by the authors, neoliberalism is comprised of elements such as privatization, globalization or free trade , and the prevention of democracy intervening with business and economic growth. They also point out that the goal of neoliberalism is to restore the optimal conditions for capital accumulations (Carroll Greeno 126), even if it means that it serves as a hindrance to social safety nets such as welfare, housing, and public pensions. Essentially, neoliberalism which is considerably the modern form of capitalism, benefits the ruling class ; through the exploitation of the working class. It is argued that ... • 42. Why Is Assisted Suicide Legalized If Assisted Suicide was to become a law that the states can use it a lot of people with illnesses would die. This means that their family member would be in great grief to find that their family member decided that they wanted to die. The problem is that patients of doctors with illnesses might choose to die if Assisted Suicide is legalized in the States. A possible solution that could occur is that it could become illegal in the States, so that patients could not make a rash decision to kill themselves with drugs. Another possible solution could be that they could only make the decision if their family members and relatives agree. Also, they could only choose this with relative approval if they are 18 or older. If Assisted Suicide is legalized, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A possible solution to assisted suicide would be to stop it in every state in the US. This helps this issue by stopping people from giving them the choice of assisted suicide. Which would lead to less deaths from this issue. Using lethal drugs to kill someone should be illegal in the US. Another, possible solution for this could be to not use drugs to kill someone without any direction on self administration. This helps this issue by not killing patients with drugs at their own home. This also helps people try to survive their terminal illness instead of just giving up. If assisted suicide becomes a law that is legalized that doctors and physicians patients will die if they choose to. Assisted suicide means a situation in which a physician provides the means of death for a gravely ill patient but the patient takes the final step. This is a problem because it s killing patients with lethal drugs or killing patients with Euthanasia. Some solutions are to stop this in the US or give them hope to make them want to live. This is not a situation to be taken lightly this should be stopped because if it is not than people will die by doctors that are supposed to help people survive. • 43. Climate Change And Trout Ecosystems Increasing temperatures are an immediate threat to the earth and its many diverse ecosystems. Our group chose to take an in depth look at the effects of climate change on freshwater fish species, specifically on the rising air and freshwater temperatures and how they affect a cold water dwelling fish species such as the trout. We will explore how the distribution of trout has changed over time with rising temperatures, how fires due to climate change affect trout populations, and lastly what the economic impacts of increased water temperatures will be on fisheries. Trout distribution is incredibly susceptible to climate change. According to a report issued by PNAS, various trout species, including the cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout ... The rising temperatures are the main reason these fish have had a declining rate, and one way we as humans can help is by limiting our carbon emissions and the burning of fossil fuels. It will be a tough task, but possibly putting a cap and trade, basically a tariff on emissions, is one way in which we could help stop the emissions and eventually help global temperatures fall. The higher global temperatures rise, the more species we will eventually lose, and trout are just one example of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Pablo Picasso s Boy With A Pipe Growing up I was infatuated with art, I love the creativity that a person could bring to any piece of work. While looking through many paintings, I came across one that caught not only my eye, but many others. The name of this Painting is Boy with a Pipe, created by one of the greatest artist in the world, Pablo Picasso. This representational painting was created in the year of 1905 when Picasso was 24 years old (Daluwatta). This Painting is representational because, the oil that is on the canvas depicts a young white Persian boy who is holding a pipe in his left hand and also wearing some type of headband of flowers around his head. Picasso lived in Le Bateau Lavoir in Montmartre when he created this mister piece. Picasso called the young white boy Little Louise, he had spent much time in the studio while he was creating this painting. (Lu). There are many people that say that the boy who ... The Pipe, which is a symbol for the intellectual also relating in nineteenth and twentieth century type of painting. It looks like its being held by the artist outside the painting as he wonder about the image, although it s held by the model inside the painting.
