A Good Man Is Hard To Find By Joyce Carol Oates
In the stories A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O Connor and Where Are You Going
Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates, the authors illustrate the attitudes that people possess
toward death. O Connor is considered to be motivated by religious appeal, whereas Oates writes to
depict the temptation of death. Those that have no choice in their deathsee it as a punishment, while
those that choose to die see it as a blessing. Through the use of symbolism, diction, and
comparisons, O Connor and Oates shed light on the differing perspectives of death.
O Connor s character, The Misfit, is depicted as an escaped prisoner that is responsible for the
death of a family traveling to Florida on vacation. Upon closer examination, it becomes evident
that The Misfit is symbolic of death when he remarks that there never was a body that give the
undertaker a tip. (510) It can be concluded that he sees himself to an undertaker, but instead of
preparing a body for a funeral, The Misfit is preparing the family for the afterlife.
Oates s character, Arnold Friend, is also symbolic of death, in that he tempts a young, depressed
girl to commit suicide. This comparison first becomes clear when he drew an X in the air, and
called it My sign. (311) Arnold Friend s actions represent death, or the grim reaper, crossing off the
names of those that had died.
Despite The Misfit and Arnold Friend both being symbolic of death, they are perceived in
contrasting viewpoints. The Misfit is

Most Important Commandments In America
There are many commandments in America. Most of them are very important and should be
followed. There is many more that should be added . The commandments can prevent a lot of
things. They can also earn you some respect . I think more should be added. One commandment
is that you should always speak when you walk into a room .It is considered rude if you walk
into a room full of people and don t speak to them . You wouldn t like it if you were sitting in a
room and somebody walked in and don t acknowledge your presence . That s why the polite thing
to do is speak. That earns you more respect from others. The second most important commandment
is respect your elders . Elders isn t just old people or just random adults that you see. It... Show

If you want respect, you first have to give it. You can t treat people any type of way and expect
to be treated like royalty. People treat you as you treat them on a daily basis .So if you want to
be respected , you have to remain respectful at all times. The fourth commandment is do not
steal. Stealing is always wrong no matter what way you try to put it as. Stealing is not only illegal,
it s also a good way to lose trust in people. You wouldn t like it if somebody stole from you so don t
steal from them. Stealing from people loses trust and respect so you should not steal from
anybody at all. The fifth commandment is if somebody sneezes , be courteous and say bless you.
People usually sneeze and expect to be told bless you afterwards. It is polite to say bless you after
somebody sneezes. Most people feel as if you care enough to say it once you say bless you to them
. If you sneeze, you most likely would want somebody to say bless you to you. Some people don
t really mind whether someone says it or not and some people do mind . Therefore , you should
always say it just to be polite . There is nothing wrong with being

Jesus and Moses
According to the book of Matthew, Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod
the king, indicating he was born between 6 and 4 BCE (Matthew 2:1). The Bible refers to this as
the virgin birth because Joseph and Mary never conceived him. He was a human being in which
God took his form. Very little is known about his childhood and the Bible only reveals a picture of
Jesusand his teachings when he was approximately 30 years of age. Whatever happened to Jesus
during these years is a mystery to us all, but whatever happened transformed him into the divine
being which he is today.
Jesus was raised under Judaism and sternly believed in the practices and Jewish customs. In Luke
2:41 52, Luke reveals that Jesus went missing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third temptation reveals man s desire for power. In all three, Jesus relied on God, as should his
followers for strength and direction. It is only after this that Jesus uses his true God given powers
to help and convert people.
Jesus began to travel throughout the lands amassing a trusted circle of 13 apostles, the original
true believers in Jesus as the prophet, to spread the word of God. Jesus himself would be the
center piece. His ability to cure the blind and heal the sick created a surreal aurora about him
that interested everybody. My favorite stories occur in Matthew 14 when Jesus feeds 5000
people with one loaf of bread and one jug of wine. The turning point in Jesus life occurred during
this time too when he walked on water. He did not do this to persuade others or convince them
of his god given powers. He did this for his apostles and his apostles only. He wanted to show
them true faith and belief in God and the power it held. Peter was able to take a few steps towards
Jesus, but when he became fearful and lost his faith, he quickly sank. Jesus responded by telling
him, You of little faith, why did you doubt (Matthew 14:31). This moment marks a turning point in
the Bible. From here on, the political workings that would lead to his crucifixion had begun and
Jesus knew he was running out of time.
The greatest moment in Jesus life is the Transfiguration of Jesus where Peter discovers first hand
Jesus is the true son

Racial Differences Between African Americans And Europeans
Morrison expounds on this by explaining that racial characters like that in books and novels are
formed by an African presence, a presence that has a three parts towards its development. The
first part is through the hierarchic difference between African Americans and Europeans, which
was established years ago and is the simplest feature of the development. Basically, it is the
established belief of Europeans academic dominance over that of Africans, and the view of
Africans as ignorant and savage beast, not even humans. This belief is indeed how slavery was
formed. The second stage of the construction of Africanist is a bit more complex. This one is
involved the cracks and uncertain nature of Africans; this aspect involved the fear of What If? As
in what if Africans gained the knowledge to read and write, or what if they figure out that being
enslaved is indeed wrong and that the form together an army to fight back and gain their
independence from slavery. The third and final stage of this construction process is the use of
African Americancharacters, or any character that is of darker skin, and create the image of them
being evil or immoral or impure in comparison to Europeans and those of lighter skin tone. All three
stages combined creates the American Africanist that has caused many literary works be thrown
away and lost in history with other historical significance that the African race had a hand in the
development of the United Statesof America.

In this paper I will argue that torturing a person is never a best way to bring about a much greater
good except in extreme emergency situations. I will also argue that he degree of torture should
vary in these extreme emergency situations and the torturer should be able to justify why did he
torture the person. I will elaborate on torture and why I believe it is never the best way to bring
about a greater good after a very brief description of what torture is and under what circumstances
people ought to be tortured. Torture is basically inflecting unbearable pain in a person in order to
break his/her will to obtain certain information. Most commonly torture is used on people who are
considered as a threat to the nation or simply who defy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe torture is only morally permissible in extreme emergency situations. By extreme
emergency situations I mean when there is a risk that hundreds of people will be killed if the
victim does not provide certain information. In the ticking time bomb case, interrogators have
tried all the acceptable methods to get the code to disarm the bomb and have failed to do so and
hence it is morally permissible to torture the person to get the code otherwise we will be putting
the lives of millions of people at risks. Also, some cases where torture would be morally
permissible are where the torturer is hundred percent sure that the victim is the perpetrator and
has significant information to bring about greater good. This victim can be a kidnapper, a
bomber, a terrorist or even a secret service agent who is selling confidential information. I also
believe that while torturing someone the degree of torture should not be too high and it should be
in the knowledge of highest law authority. A medical practitioner should also be present while
torturing a victim so that there should be no risk to the life of the perpetrator. As Henry Shue said
that An act of torture ought to remain illegal and anyone has to justify in order defending himself
/herself legally (Shue). I strongly believe that under any circumstance torture should not be
legalized whether it is for

The Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar is the one of the famous Roman generals. Many may recognize this name from the
great works of Shakespeare. Before the great works of Shakespeare, Julius Caesar was famous in
his Roman city which. Julius Caesar was a dictator that turned the Roman republic to the Roman
Empire. Even though the life time of Julius Caesartook place in 100 BC 44 BC, people everywhere
will mention Caesar s name and legacy. For starters, Julius Caesar s time was very different
from today life. People did not get married because they were in love with the each other most of
the time. The reason people in Roman time got married was for perfect children. Babies that were
not fit or unhealthy during this time would be thrown out and left for dead. According to Phillip
Freeman, Roman families had to keep the first girl that is born and all healthy boys. (Freeman 23).
During this time there were no public schools, only private schools and tutors that came to the
house. Julius Caesar had a tutor who taught him and is sisters. Children that did not behave during
this time would be whipped by their teachers (Freeman 24). When boys turned 15 or 16 they would
be considered an adult. Another thing different about this time is that crucifixions took place.
Caesar would do crucifixions to pirates (Freeman 40).
Crucifixions would start off with a man being flogged, humiliated, and weakened. After being
beaten the criminal would

Descriptive Essay On The Border
If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican
parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister
city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky
person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and
understand the environment from two different perspectives.
In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t
respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have
been exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross
the Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others
are part of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the
350 maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the
border to visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as
well as in other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on
both sides which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives
of many people, yet especially Mexican Americans, like me.
I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his
father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given
the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was
able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also
learned the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the
business. The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy
environment until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.
The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities.
The streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were

The gatekeepers will also take shifts to deliver everyone s

they are never seen again. People who work on the bus box are the ones who transfer the new
people to their new partners or homes.
Evaluation:
This is a very extravagant book. Agenda 21 is a fiction but it does not mean it will stay
that way. The book describes a world that is run by a sadistic government, Republic, who gets
what he wants. He sugar coats his speeches to make them sound like it s a plan to only help the
environment and our future selves. The book deeply describes how revolting the world would be
and how people will be living in such repulsive urban houses.
After reading this book, I look at our world differently. I am gratified by what we have
and who we choose to be with, whether it s friends, family, or a significant other. If local
governments got their way, we would not be able to have our children, significant other, or family
with us. You never know when you would be transferred to a different house or a different location

The Movie Running Scared By Paul Walker
The movie Running Scared (2006) with Paul Walker is full of ethical dilemmas from the start. Low
level thug Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) was supposed to dispose of dirty guns that were used to kill
two police officers. Instead, he hid them in his basement to be found by Oleg, Joey s son s best
friend and neighbor. Oleg s stepfather was an abuser who came from the Russian mob. He abused
his wife and Oleg on a daily basis so Oleg stole the gun to shoot his stepfather in order to save his
mom and himself and he ran away after the incident. Joey needed to get the gun back in order to
save his life since he was supposed to dispose of it since it was a wanted weapon. The police did
not know what sort of weapon they were looking for.
Once the men higher up in the Mafia than Joey got news that there was a shooting and the weapon
might have been theirs, the heat was on. Joey spent all night trying to find Oleg which sent them
both through an adventurous, scary trip.
Ethics play a major role in this movie. The first ethical dilemma that the viewers are faced with is
the fact that Oleg s step father is abusive. He has no respect for Mila, Oleg s mom. He beats her
and starves Oleg. Oleg is seen as the growing boy in the house, not yet the man, but he wants to
care for his mother and protect her. This poses a problem: he wants to save his mother but in order
to do that he must eliminate his dad. Though his intentions are good his actions are illegal. He also
stole the gun, which is

This essay compares the conception honor in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Wife of Bath s Prologue
and The Franklin s Tale from The Canterbury Tales. The problem of honor seems to be timeless in
its difficulties. There are many ideas and opinions concerning this delicate subject, which always is
popular, along with its ability to frustrate and perplex the human. During the time of Chaucer,
females such as the Wife of Bath were asserting their rights against the forces of male chauvinism.
Apparently, the battle of the sexes for supremacy is everlasting in its intensity and has always been
fought. Consequently, we have both male and femalechauvinists, and they appear in Chaucer s
works. They make for interesting reading.

Depictions Of Women During The Golden Ass
I will argue that the depictions of women in The Golden Ass seem to reinforce the gender
stereotype of women to be lustful and manipulative nymphomaniacs because of the qualities of
several female characters. The Golden Ass identifies the latent nature of women through several
characters, namely: The womanfrom Corinth, who Lucius sleeps with, The wife from the story, the
lover, and the jar, and Photis. First, I will analyze the woman from Corinth who sleeps with Lucius
and how her qualities reinforce the genderstereotype. Next I will analyze the wife from the story:
the lady and the jar, and how her qualities connect to the stereotype of women. Then, I will analyze
the characteristics of Photis and how her qualities support the gender stereotype. Once I have
established the distinct stereotypes present in these women the position that The Golden Ass
reinforces stereotypes can be taken because it will be understood that the majority of women share
their respective qualities and therefore live within the boundaries of their stereotype. Finally, I will
refute the opposition to my claim. Perhaps the most compelling support of the racy female
stereotype is the depicted actions of the lady of Corinth who made love to Lucius. Her embodiment
of the female stereotype is important because it reinforces the commonality of these traits and
therefore the validation of the gender stereotype. This character is lustful because she is greedy in
her actions. When telling his story, Lucius

Crosby seems to think that much of the Columbian voyages and what came out of them was
detrimental to many cultures, most of all the Native Americans. Crosby brings up many institutions
and ideologies to re enforce his opinion, such as the slave trade and the conquest of many Native
Americancultures. One of the major effects of the Columbian exchangewas the decimation of the
Native American population. Crosby attributes this to many factors, the conquest of the Europeans,
the cultural vacuum created by European attempts to Christianize the Amerindians, and the

This in turn would lead to more consumption at the top of the food chain, eliminating the predators
to creatures at the lower end of the food chain. This would cause their numbers to rise, which
would lead to irreparable damage to the ever fragile ecosystem.
Another reason that disease is needed was defined by Thomas Malthus. His concept is called the
Malthusian Law, which states that the population will increase geometrically while the food supply
will increase arithmetically. This, simply put, means that the population will grow enormously
faster than the food supply will. Predictably, this leads to starvation and death. Disease, as a natural
check, prevents this from happening. As the population is checked, the supply of food can keep up
with the growth of population, keeping the ecosystem balanced. If disease was not a prevalent
factor to check the growth of population, then the Malthusian Law certainly would be.
However, checking the growth of population is not the only reason the disease is needed.

Iran Between Iran And Iran
Iran previously known as Persia is not one of the largest countries in the world. It is approximately
a little smaller than Alaska by comparison. Throughout the years, Iran was involved in many
conflicts while still today holding its own against other countries in the world. Iran is located within
the Middle East with the bordering countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan,
and Turkey. As early as the period of the Romans, Iranhad many types of leaders, conflicts and
enemies in the world. Their government structure is similar to most countries such as the United
States and Britain. The only difference is they have one person that has the most power, which is
the Supreme Leader. Their untrained military, imported and outdated weapons, and small military
force compared to most of the larger countries of the world. Iran has more history of conflict then
most of the other countries and still today continues to protect their selves while living in the harsh
environment and terrain to their advantage in holding back invading military forces... The
geography of Iran is remarkable due to its location in the Middle East. When looking at a map of
Iran, you have Iraq, Armenia, and Azerbaijan neighboring the West borders of Iran. On Iran s East

Common Characters Of Hellman And Batman, Iron Man And Batman
What is a comic book hero, and why do they struggle so much with their identities? A common
definition for a hero is a person admired for achievements and noble qualities . However, as we
all may know comic book heroes are vastly different from this. Throughout our lives almost
everybody has been exposed to the comic book hero or superherothat our society seems so
obsessed over. We love to read about and watch these fantastical characters fly around and save
the day. But there is one unsettling truth that is seen in almost every comic book hero, their
secret identity and everything it holds. Perhaps the biggest secret for each of these heroes is
their identity. This secret can mean life or death not only them but all of their loved ones as
well, and all that is protecting them is a little fabric mask on their face. This since of fear that
each character must live with is underlining theme that takes place in virtually all comic book
hero stories. So as the readers of these comics and watchers of these movies, we must ask ourselves
as how can such powerful people live in such a state of fear? In addition to this, can this use of a
heroes alter egobe compared to us normal people and our alter egos that we create online? In
order to answer how these heroes can live in such a state of fear I want to look at two common

cultural differences. In Hong Kong, they only considered Chinese style in the park design. Also,
they still overpriced the park. They didn t take into consideration the actual price level of the
country and blindly set prices high so that visitors could not afford, and moved on to other
amusement parks. Last is the marketing. Disney management did not market its entertainment
concept. Like France, Hong Kong has their own cartoon image and was not familiar with Mickey
Mouse or Donald Duck. 7. Now that Hong Kong Disney is up and running, will the Shanghai
development benefit from the Hong Kong experience? Disney management will know

Theme Of Alienation In Frankenstein
People often find something wrong with things they do not view as normal, many times, these
different aspects of the world draw ire or even hatred of those around them. Similarly, it is common
that individuals within society will demean those who look, act, or sound differently. This problem
spans cultures and generations, and, as with most problems, there are noble men and women who
fight for the outside, the alienated, in different ways. One such method is through literature. In
Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, the monster only wants to be accepted by the humanworld, but
man constantly rejects him. It shows how people judge based on appearance and choose to
alienate those who fail to conform to their expectations. Throughout the story, the monster
encounters different people who all reject him because of how he appears. Victor spends two
years attempting to create life, yet when he does, he immediately hates his creation: now that I
had finished, but the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my
heart (42). It is shocking how quick Victor is to judge his own work. As soon as he comes to life
and Victor sees this monstrosity that he has created, he deems him hideous and feels his past two
years were a waste of time. This shows how superficial Victor is. He spends years of work
creating life, but decides that the monstrosity he creates is ugly and just leaves. He abandons this
monster when he is in his infancy. What Victor does is

Bravo Arts Academy Target Market
To start I would like to cover how Bravo Arts Academy defines their Segmenting, Targeting, and
positioning. Alli Barnes, the marketing director at Bravo, gave me a very detailed description of
the current state of Bravo Arts Academy s IMC plan. To start off Alli described Bravo s target
/segment as northern Utah and families. I believe that to go into further detail to more accurately
describe Bravo s current target and segmentation you should look at the locations of all three
academy locations. All the buildings are located in demographic areas where the dominant
demographics are Middleburg which are families that are at a middle class income, typically have
children, relatively young, family oriented, and are typically have freedom in their budgets. Also,
Up and Coming Families are families that typically are more diverse, are ambitious, willing to take

There are few things that I believe that they could improve on being that Bravo is an all ages
academy you would think that we would have students of all ages. Unfortunately, I do not believe
that Bravo is zeroing in on getting the maximum potential of their demographic target. The vast
majority of our students are between six and seventeen years old. I have personally had a few
adults students from 18 all the way to 70 years old. From my experience I do not believe that adults
do not want to take lessons; I believe that they are simply unaware of the fact that adults can take
lessons. In addition I believe that marketing communications could be refined to target the females
of the targeted demographics. Generally the women of the household are the parent that determines
the extracurricular activities. I believe that marketing communications directed at gaining new child
student would be more effective if Bravo tailored their marketing communications towards

Did The Nazis Destroy Artifacts
Did the nazis destroy ancient sights and or artifacts?
Yes, they did. The destruction of monuments, artwork, etc. by the Nazis took two different forms.
Either they were doing it to humiliate/culturally destroy an occupied people, or they were
destroying German monuments/artwork/etc. to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. Its
also worth noting that the Nazis destroyed art works and cultural monuments that felt they were
dangerous/subversive/or degenerate; so works from Jews, works depicting nudity, not properly
playing up to Aryan ideals could all be destroyed by the Nazis; but that was mostly related to
artwork and music.
In occupied Poland, Polish musicians and artists were suppressed; as well Polish monuments were
destroyed, such as the famous Polish monument to poet Adam Mickiewicz in Krakow. Here is a

Naturally Hitler had it destroyed, and the rail car in which the armistice was signed was brought

bronze statue of Paul von Hindenburg located Hohenstein (modern day Poland) was destroyed by
the Germans; as was the Tannenberg memorial where Hindenburg s remains were kept was also

I am a big fan of Hope Solo and her goalie skills. Ever since I heard of her she s been my idol for

Hope Solo isn t just a ordinary goalkeeper, she is more than just that. Many people might not

because Hope Solo is the best of all keepers! She has won many awards like FIFA World Cup

Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz and produced by Hal B. Wallis, tells the story of
American cafГ© owner, Rick Blaine, and his dilemma between choosing between his love and
the greater good. The film takes place in Casablanca, Morocco amid the darkness and conflict of
Nazi occupation. Rick Blaine s drinking habits and his gradual increase in socialization with those
around him serve to allude to America s progressive participation in and support of the war against
the Nazis. Throughout the beginning of the motion picture, Rick refuses to have a drink with the

Rick s being surrounded by smoke symbolizes his being in the underworld, but his smoking the
cigarette alludes to his leaving the underworld (Class). As they burn, cigarettes get shorter, thus
symbolizing his impending departure from the underworld. This also suggests that the United
States time for neutrality is coming to an end, which was abruptly ended by the attack on Pearl
Harbor in 1941. In his first appearance, Rick has an empty whiskey glass next to his right hand.
Whiskey comes from the Gaelic word, uisce beatha, which means water of life (Class). Rick s
drinking alone and empty glass illustrate that he is devoid of spirit and passion for life and that
he is merely watching the lives of others. This image reflects the state of America at that time.
Americans were still feeling the effects of the Great Depression and did not want to get
involved in the war being waged across Europe (Kennedy). Rick is also shown playing chess

throughout To Kill A Mocking Bird. People cannot be judged on first impressions; if we scratch
the surface we ll find that they are better or worse than first thought. They may have redeeming
qualities or skeletons in their closets. Mrs. Dubose was first seen as a grouchy, sharp tongued
racist who was steeped in traditionalism. As the story progresses she transforms into a resilient

They could have walked around, but it would have added an extra mile to their trip and they had

Dubose has French origins, it means by or in a wood. The Name Henry is also French, but it has

How are fire scenes different than regular crime scenes for investigators? They are different than
regular crime scenes because fire scenes have a different procedure. Plus, most fires scenes don
t require a search warrant. This is because it can take a long time to get a search warrant but with
fire scenes it is crucial to get the evidence as soon as possible because causes of the fire, like
petroleum, can evaporate within days, or even hours of the fire. Also, they need to know how to
prevent the fire from starting again and possibly injuring fire fighters or other emergency
responders.

Do you think search warrants should be required for fire scenes? Why or why not? Search
warrants are not required for fire scenes because the evidence at fire scene needs to be collected
as soon as possible because it is important to determine where a fire started and why in order to
prevent the fire from starting again and possibly injuring fire fighters or other emergency
responders. This wouldn t be possible if we had to wait more than a couple hours for a search
warrant.
Do you think more countries should adopt the practice of putting color coded chips in explosive
materials? Why or why not? I absolutely agree with the adaption of putting color coded chips in
explosives. These chips allow forensic scientists to track down viable information about the
explosive that will help find the culprit responsible for the explosion.
Why do you think crime scenes involving homemade bombs have increased? I think homemade
bomb crime scenes are increasing because of the opportunities we now have. This includes the
internet, which tells us how to make the bomb, and stores that sell and/or produce the supplies for
making the bombs.
Why do you think the procedures are different from normal crime scenes to those involving fire
and explosions? What benefits or challenges are there because of these different procedures? I

The Wicked Step Grandmother s Lament
One of the world s best known stories is that of Cinderella. Variations of this tale exist in cultures
all across the world from Spanish America to Russia to Vietnam, and it has been pulled apart and
reimagined into several different forms on the page, stage, and screen. But the incarnation of the
story that is probably the most familiar is the one by Charles Perrault, with its signature Fairy
Godmother and glass slippers. Despite being published in 1697, it is still popular enough that it
was remade for the umpteenth time earlier this year. While the tale obviously has a timeless appeal,
its ideological assumptions do not go unchallenged by modern writers. Sara Maitland s The Wicked

Cinderella is sent a fairy godmother to grant all of her wishes. But Maitland s Stepmother, lives

While even she admits what she did was immoral, her reasoning behind why she did it was

roses and she had to take some responsibility for her own life...instead of waiting and waiting and

Grazing ecosystems support more herbivore biomass than any other terrestrial habitat (Sinclair
1975, Detling 1988, McNaughton et al. 1989, 1991, Huntly 1991). A functional consequence of this
disparity in trophic structure emerges by comparing the relationship between aboveground

other terrestrial ecosystems [ILLUSTRATIONFOR FIGURE 3 OMITTED]. For consumption
measurements, we included plant material removed by all important herbivores, both vertebrates
and invertebrates. All values were energy equivalents (kJ), converted from biomass measurements

Common Bottlenose Dolphin
The Common Bottlenose dolphin is one of many dolphins in our world today. According to
marinemammalsceince.org the scientific name for the common bottlenose dolphin is Tursiops

Francisco State University Department of Geography the kingdom Tursiops truncatus belongs to
is Animalia, the phylum to which they are grouped in is Chordata, and their class is Mammalia.
The order in which they belong to is cetacean, the suborder is odontoceti, their family is

Examples Of Sight And Blindness In Oedipus The King
The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. (Helen Keller, n.d.)
According to Helen Keller being able to literally see worth nothing when you are mentally blind
that is, not being able to see things beyond the surface. The theme of sight versus blindness in the
tragic play Oedipus the king by Sophocles is a metaphor, with blindness symbolising knowledge,
light and truth while sight symbolises ignorance, darkness and lie. This metaphor and irony of sight
and blindness is the building block of the play Oedipus the king , with central figures Oedipus, King
of Thebes and Teiresias the blind prophet. References to sight and blindness, both metaphorical and

While this pride could be commendable at the beginning of the play, here it has become
exaggerated to the extent that it becomes nearly absurd. His pride makes him choose to deny the

demonstrates Oedipus blindness to the truth, the truth about the fact that Polybus and Merope
are not his real parents, Jocasta is both his wife and mother as Teiresias says To her that gave
[you] birth, [you shall be proved] a son and husband both (Oedipus the king, Sophocles lines 536

whom he is searching for and finally Oedipus is not aware that Laius is his father. During their

and through this metaphor of sight, he also reveals ironically that the blind prophet has a greater
ability to see what is happening in Oedipus life unlike Oedipus who sees and understand none
and has no idea of what is happening and will happen to him. Towards the end of their discussion,

to not make trouble for other people, to contain one s despair and self pity by sheer will power,
and to not judge others and view the unenlightened with pity. Hemingway uses his story to propose
that people should not make trouble for other people.
A great example when the old, deaf man is still in the cafe. The younger waiter is antsy to go
home but the old man is still there, so when he asks for another drink the waiter cuts him off. When

After the cafe is closed, he goes to a bar but dislikes the atmosphere, so decides to return home.
He depicts it with the imagery, Now, without thinking further, he would go home to his room...
After all, he said to himself, it s probably only insomnia. Many must have it. He is sad with his life
so when he cannot find his desired place, clean and pleasant, he goes home instead of bothering
other people. He does not force his despair onto others but keeps it inside. Using sheer will power
to contain one s despair and self pity is a big aspect to Hemingway s code of behavior. Moreover,
Ernest Hemingway suggests to not judge others and view the unenlightened with pity. The older
waiter best portrays this with his interactions with the younger waiter. They are discussing the
difference between young and old and the differences between them. The old waiter can relate
more to the deaf man and says, You do not understand. This is a clean and pleasant cafe. It is
well lighted. The light is very good and also, now, there are shadows of the leaves. He
understands the appeal of the cafe compared to the other places opened that late. He chooses to not
judge the younger one for his ignorance, but instead feels sorry for him. Furthermore, the young
waiter shows his unenlightenment when he talks about the old, deaf man. He is rambling on about
how he has a life, where as, the old man s is over and does not matter

Compare Beowulf And The Faerie Queene
After reading the assigned stories I have chosen to write about the Faerie Queene and Beowulf.
Both Redcrosse and Beowulf show the perfect hero in two periods, Both Beowulf and Redcrosse
Knight exemplify the perfect hero in two separate periods, The Early Modern Period and The
Middle Age. Beowulf shows the effect of the spread of Christianity, values heroic deeds and
bravery above all else. Beowulf s heroism is explored in three separate conflicts, those with
Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the sea monster. Redcrosse Knight, The Faerie Queen, show
Holiness, though he is the individual Christian fighting against evil.
The Faerie Queene, was written during the early modern period, shows a massive change in
Christian religious practices. Redcrosse offers his services to Gloriana, Queen of Fairyland Una
reveals that the dragon of hell has captured her parents and that she needs assistance in getting them
free. Redcrosse takes on the challenge of getting her parents released (Canto 1). This demonstrate a
hero, he will go through great trials and fight fierce monsters and this in itself is the character of a
heroic knight. Not only does his armor protect his body and those with him, but also being a
Christian he has the protection of Christ. For the Christian to be holy, he must have faith.
Much of Beowulf is showing heroism , this shows the values of strength, courage, and loyalty,
hospitality, generosity,. Redcrosse, must defeat villains who impersonate the falsehood of the

Little Miss Sunshine Film Analysis Essay
The film Little Miss Sunshine, Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris, explores the lives
of a regular American family and how they change their lives in front of us in the Combie van on
the road to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. The film examines the issues of winning and
losing, and what it means to be a winner, throughout many sequences in the film as well as
exploring the value of family. The directors and the cinematic team use an extreme range of camera
techniques, costuming, and sound techniques to reshape our understanding of winning and losing
in the world we live in today. Firstly the directors and their team use a variety of different camera
techniques to shape our view on the characters, and ultimately... Show more content on

When all the competitors are introduced on stage we see Olive is far out of place just through
her basic average costuming, compared to the other girls who are dressed like little Barbie
dolls, with glittery clothes and excessive make up. Even though Olive is out of place and
obviously doesn t belong in the competition, she still reflects Grandpa s view on classifying
winners and losers which was introduced before he died. Grandpa believes that a real loser is
someone who is so afraid of not winning they don t even try. Through the costuming and Olives
actions the directors implant that view of winning and losing into the audience, which then
reflects on our world today, as we need to show more support, not for the winners of a
competition, but the courage people have developed to enter a competition. The Final key
technique which is employed by the cinematic team of Little Miss Sunshine is the use of sound.
Throughout the film there is an evident mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sounds. In the scene
were Frank and Dwayne are out on the pier, starts with a non diegetic voice over from the Little
Miss Sunshine pageant saying America, it s so beautiful . These words introduce the scene as the
diegetic sounds of nature at the beach take over and remind us of nature s healing presence as we
then see the first real bonding between Frank and Dwayne. The directors have chosen to use

A Comparison Of Men s Square Sunglasses
Men s square sunglasses are the must have sunglasses for 2015, particularly for those who love
the retro look of a stylish pair of wayfarers or the vintage feel of men s browline sunglasses. The
squared off design of these type of sunglasses offers the perfect contrast to a rounded face, while
protecting the eyes from harmful UV rays and glare on a sunny Australian afternoon.
A Wide Choice of Men s Square Sunglasses
A soft face with round features is typically the type that suits men s square sunglasses, as men s
sunglasses for round faces provide definition and clarity to those smooth lines. Shoppers will find

Bryan Caplan And The Austrian School
According to economist Bryan Caplan, by the late twentieth century, a split had developed among
those who self identify with the Austrian School. One group, building on the work of Hayek,
follows the broad framework of mainstream neoclassical economics, including its use of
mathematical models and general equilibrium, and brings a critical perspective to mainstream
methodology merely influenced by the Austrian notions such as the economic calculation problem
and the independent role of logical reasoning in developing economic theory.[33]
Murray Rothbard
A second group, following Mises and Rothbard, rejects the neoclassical theories of consumer and
welfare economics, dismisses empirical methods and mathematical and statistical models as
inapplicable to economic science, and asserts that economic theory went entirely astray in the
twentieth century; they offer the Misesian view as a radical alternative paradigm to mainstream
theory. Caplan wrote that if Mises and Rothbard are right, then [mainstream] economics ... Show

Hoppe acknowledged that Hayek was the most prominent Austrian economist within academia, but
stated that Hayek was an opponent of the Austrian tradition which led from Carl Menger and
Böhm Bawerk through Mises to Rothbard. Austrian economist Walter Block says that the Austrian
school can be distinguished from other schools of economic thought through two categories
economic theory and political theory. According to Block, while Hayek can be considered an
Austrian economist , his views on political theory clash with the libertarian political theory which
Block sees as an integral part of the Austrian

Why Girls Get Periods
Period Questions
Why do girls get periods?
Every 28 days (or month), your uterus lining thickens in preparation to receive a fertilized egg if
you were to become pregnant. If this egg isn t fertilized, your vagina will release this uterine lining
in the form of blood. This is why you get your period!
What exactly is the blood that we push out when we have our periods?
The blood you push out every month (or so) when you get your period is the lining your uterus
prepares to receive a fertilized egg. When you do not get pregnant, this lining is released through
your vagina.
How often should I be getting my period?
Technically you should be getting your period every month. However, every girl and every single
one of our bodies is different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brownish blood does not necessarily mean something is wrong. In fact, plenty of women
experience this throughout their menstrual cycle. Sometimes, brownish discharge means that a little
blood stayed in your uterus for a day or two before it came out.
I keep bleeding through my pads/tampons, is that normal?
Menstrual flows vary from woman to woman, some of us bleed a lot more, some bleed a lot less
during our periods. If you are bleeding through your pads and/or tampons it might mean you
need to opt for products designed a heavier flow. However, if your periods are very heavy in flow
and are accompanied by lots of pain and other symptoms you should visit your doctor to find a
solution to your heavy periods.
My period came earlier than expected, what does that mean?
Your menstrual cycle will vary throughout your life. If your period came earlier than expected it
you shouldn t worry. First of all, it means you re not pregnant (Phew!!!). You will see as you
grow older that your period cycle will stabilize. If you d like to have a more predictable menstrual
cycle though, you should talk to your doctor and consider getting on the pill.
I have really bad cramps, should I go to the

Tenochtitl Capital Of The Aztec Empire
Tenochtitlan was the capital of the Aztec empire. It was one of the largest cities in the world in
1521. It evolved from a small settlement on an island in the western marshes of Lake
Texcoco, into the mighty political, economic and religious center of the largest empire in Pre
Columbian Mexico in less than 200 years. Tenochtitlan was a city of great wealth at the time.
Most construction of Tenochtitlan took place during the reigns of four Azteckings beginning in the
1470s. The ruins of the once great Aztec city are still visible today a thousand years later. Canals
and rivers ran throughout the city and canoes were used to transport people and goods throughout
the city. There were also 2 aqueducts that supplied the city with fresh
water.

Daily Life In Pompeii
The sky turned dark as a huge, black cloud rose into the air. Stones, hot ash, and poisonous gases
fell down onto the city of Pompeii as the seemingly quiet Mt. Vesuvius erupted in the year 79
A.D. Soon the entire city and all of it s people were buried under 20 feet of ash. Even though this
ancient city lived over 2,000 years ago, their daily life has similarities to ours today. Daily life in
Pompeiiis similar to us in various ways. One of those ways is their regular daily objects. Tiny boxes
filled with dark, shiny powder tell us that the women liked to wear eye makeup (The Buried City,
38). Jewelry, especially pearls at the time, was worn as well. Pompeii was full of graffiti. Etched in

  • 2. A Good Man Is Hard To Find By Joyce Carol Oates In the stories A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O Connor and Where Are You Going Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates, the authors illustrate the attitudes that people possess toward death. O Connor is considered to be motivated by religious appeal, whereas Oates writes to depict the temptation of death. Those that have no choice in their deathsee it as a punishment, while those that choose to die see it as a blessing. Through the use of symbolism, diction, and comparisons, O Connor and Oates shed light on the differing perspectives of death. O Connor s character, The Misfit, is depicted as an escaped prisoner that is responsible for the death of a family traveling to Florida on vacation. Upon closer examination, it becomes evident that The Misfit is symbolic of death when he remarks that there never was a body that give the undertaker a tip. (510) It can be concluded that he sees himself to an undertaker, but instead of preparing a body for a funeral, The Misfit is preparing the family for the afterlife. Oates s character, Arnold Friend, is also symbolic of death, in that he tempts a young, depressed girl to commit suicide. This comparison first becomes clear when he drew an X in the air, and called it My sign. (311) Arnold Friend s actions represent death, or the grim reaper, crossing off the names of those that had died. Despite The Misfit and Arnold Friend both being symbolic of death, they are perceived in contrasting viewpoints. The Misfit is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Most Important Commandments In America There are many commandments in America. Most of them are very important and should be followed. There is many more that should be added . The commandments can prevent a lot of things. They can also earn you some respect . I think more should be added. One commandment is that you should always speak when you walk into a room .It is considered rude if you walk into a room full of people and don t speak to them . You wouldn t like it if you were sitting in a room and somebody walked in and don t acknowledge your presence . That s why the polite thing to do is speak. That earns you more respect from others. The second most important commandment is respect your elders . Elders isn t just old people or just random adults that you see. It... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you want respect, you first have to give it. You can t treat people any type of way and expect to be treated like royalty. People treat you as you treat them on a daily basis .So if you want to be respected , you have to remain respectful at all times. The fourth commandment is do not steal. Stealing is always wrong no matter what way you try to put it as. Stealing is not only illegal, it s also a good way to lose trust in people. You wouldn t like it if somebody stole from you so don t steal from them. Stealing from people loses trust and respect so you should not steal from anybody at all. The fifth commandment is if somebody sneezes , be courteous and say bless you. People usually sneeze and expect to be told bless you afterwards. It is polite to say bless you after somebody sneezes. Most people feel as if you care enough to say it once you say bless you to them . If you sneeze, you most likely would want somebody to say bless you to you. Some people don t really mind whether someone says it or not and some people do mind . Therefore , you should always say it just to be polite . There is nothing wrong with being ... • 4. Jesus and Moses According to the book of Matthew, Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, indicating he was born between 6 and 4 BCE (Matthew 2:1). The Bible refers to this as the virgin birth because Joseph and Mary never conceived him. He was a human being in which God took his form. Very little is known about his childhood and the Bible only reveals a picture of Jesusand his teachings when he was approximately 30 years of age. Whatever happened to Jesus during these years is a mystery to us all, but whatever happened transformed him into the divine being which he is today. Jesus was raised under Judaism and sternly believed in the practices and Jewish customs. In Luke 2:41 52, Luke reveals that Jesus went missing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third temptation reveals man s desire for power. In all three, Jesus relied on God, as should his followers for strength and direction. It is only after this that Jesus uses his true God given powers to help and convert people. Jesus began to travel throughout the lands amassing a trusted circle of 13 apostles, the original true believers in Jesus as the prophet, to spread the word of God. Jesus himself would be the center piece. His ability to cure the blind and heal the sick created a surreal aurora about him that interested everybody. My favorite stories occur in Matthew 14 when Jesus feeds 5000 people with one loaf of bread and one jug of wine. The turning point in Jesus life occurred during this time too when he walked on water. He did not do this to persuade others or convince them of his god given powers. He did this for his apostles and his apostles only. He wanted to show them true faith and belief in God and the power it held. Peter was able to take a few steps towards Jesus, but when he became fearful and lost his faith, he quickly sank. Jesus responded by telling him, You of little faith, why did you doubt (Matthew 14:31). This moment marks a turning point in the Bible. From here on, the political workings that would lead to his crucifixion had begun and Jesus knew he was running out of time. The greatest moment in Jesus life is the Transfiguration of Jesus where Peter discovers first hand Jesus is the true son ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Racial Differences Between African Americans And Europeans Morrison expounds on this by explaining that racial characters like that in books and novels are formed by an African presence, a presence that has a three parts towards its development. The first part is through the hierarchic difference between African Americans and Europeans, which was established years ago and is the simplest feature of the development. Basically, it is the established belief of Europeans academic dominance over that of Africans, and the view of Africans as ignorant and savage beast, not even humans. This belief is indeed how slavery was formed. The second stage of the construction of Africanist is a bit more complex. This one is involved the cracks and uncertain nature of Africans; this aspect involved the fear of What If? As in what if Africans gained the knowledge to read and write, or what if they figure out that being enslaved is indeed wrong and that the form together an army to fight back and gain their independence from slavery. The third and final stage of this construction process is the use of African Americancharacters, or any character that is of darker skin, and create the image of them being evil or immoral or impure in comparison to Europeans and those of lighter skin tone. All three stages combined creates the American Africanist that has caused many literary works be thrown away and lost in history with other historical significance that the African race had a hand in the development of the United Statesof America. In this paper I will argue that torturing a person is never a best way to bring about a much greater good except in extreme emergency situations. I will also argue that he degree of torture should vary in these extreme emergency situations and the torturer should be able to justify why did he torture the person. I will elaborate on torture and why I believe it is never the best way to bring about a greater good after a very brief description of what torture is and under what circumstances people ought to be tortured. Torture is basically inflecting unbearable pain in a person in order to break his/her will to obtain certain information. Most commonly torture is used on people who are considered as a threat to the nation or simply who defy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe torture is only morally permissible in extreme emergency situations. By extreme emergency situations I mean when there is a risk that hundreds of people will be killed if the victim does not provide certain information. In the ticking time bomb case, interrogators have tried all the acceptable methods to get the code to disarm the bomb and have failed to do so and hence it is morally permissible to torture the person to get the code otherwise we will be putting the lives of millions of people at risks. Also, some cases where torture would be morally permissible are where the torturer is hundred percent sure that the victim is the perpetrator and has significant information to bring about greater good. This victim can be a kidnapper, a bomber, a terrorist or even a secret service agent who is selling confidential information. I also believe that while torturing someone the degree of torture should not be too high and it should be in the knowledge of highest law authority. A medical practitioner should also be present while torturing a victim so that there should be no risk to the life of the perpetrator. As Henry Shue said that An act of torture ought to remain illegal and anyone has to justify in order defending himself /herself legally (Shue). Before the great works of Shakespeare, Julius Caesar was famous in his Roman city which. Julius Caesar was a dictator that turned the Roman republic to the Roman Empire. Even though the life time of Julius Caesartook place in 100 BC 44 BC, people everywhere will mention Caesar s name and legacy. For starters, Julius Caesar s time was very different from today life. People did not get married because they were in love with the each other most of the time. The reason people in Roman time got married was for perfect children. Babies that were not fit or unhealthy during this time would be thrown out and left for dead. According to Phillip Freeman, Roman families had to keep the first girl that is born and all healthy boys. (Freeman 23). During this time there were no public schools, only private schools and tutors that came to the house. Julius Caesar had a tutor who taught him and is sisters. Children that did not behave during this time would be whipped by their teachers (Freeman 24). When boys turned 15 or 16 they would be considered an adult. • 9. Descriptive Essay On The Border If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and understand the environment from two different perspectives. In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially Mexican Americans, like me. I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border. The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities. The streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were ... • 13. The Movie Running Scared By Paul Walker The movie Running Scared (2006) with Paul Walker is full of ethical dilemmas from the start. Low level thug Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) was supposed to dispose of dirty guns that were used to kill two police officers. Instead, he hid them in his basement to be found by Oleg, Joey s son s best friend and neighbor. Oleg s stepfather was an abuser who came from the Russian mob. He abused his wife and Oleg on a daily basis so Oleg stole the gun to shoot his stepfather in order to save his mom and himself and he ran away after the incident. Joey needed to get the gun back in order to save his life since he was supposed to dispose of it since it was a wanted weapon. The police did not know what sort of weapon they were looking for. Once the men higher up in the Mafia than Joey got news that there was a shooting and the weapon might have been theirs, the heat was on. Joey spent all night trying to find Oleg which sent them both through an adventurous, scary trip. Ethics play a major role in this movie. The first ethical dilemma that the viewers are faced with is the fact that Oleg s step father is abusive. He has no respect for Mila, Oleg s mom. He beats her and starves Oleg. Oleg is seen as the growing boy in the house, not yet the man, but he wants to care for his mother and protect her. • 16. Depictions Of Women During The Golden Ass I will argue that the depictions of women in The Golden Ass seem to reinforce the gender stereotype of women to be lustful and manipulative nymphomaniacs because of the qualities of several female characters. The Golden Ass identifies the latent nature of women through several characters, namely: The womanfrom Corinth, who Lucius sleeps with, The wife from the story, the lover, and the jar, and Photis. First, I will analyze the woman from Corinth who sleeps with Lucius and how her qualities reinforce the genderstereotype. Next I will analyze the wife from the story: the lady and the jar, and how her qualities connect to the stereotype of women. Then, I will analyze the characteristics of Photis and how her qualities support the gender stereotype. Once I have established the distinct stereotypes present in these women the position that The Golden Ass reinforces stereotypes can be taken because it will be understood that the majority of women share their respective qualities and therefore live within the boundaries of their stereotype. Finally, I will refute the opposition to my claim. Perhaps the most compelling support of the racy female stereotype is the depicted actions of the lady of Corinth who made love to Lucius. Her embodiment of the female stereotype is important because it reinforces the commonality of these traits and therefore the validation of the gender stereotype. This character is lustful because she is greedy in her actions. When telling his story, Lucius ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crosby brings up many institutions and ideologies to re enforce his opinion, such as the slave trade and the conquest of many Native Americancultures. One of the major effects of the Columbian exchangewas the decimation of the Native American population. This in turn would lead to more consumption at the top of the food chain, eliminating the predators to creatures at the lower end of the food chain. His concept is called the Malthusian Law, which states that the population will increase geometrically while the food supply will increase arithmetically. This, simply put, means that the population will grow enormously faster than the food supply will. Predictably, this leads to starvation and death. Disease, as a natural check, prevents this from happening. As the population is checked, the supply of food can keep up with the growth of population, keeping the ecosystem balanced. If disease was not a prevalent factor to check the growth of population, then the Malthusian Law certainly would be. A common definition for a hero is a person admired for achievements and noble qualities . However, as we all may know comic book heroes are vastly different from this. Why do you think the experience in France didn t help Disney avoid some of the problems in Hong Kong? First are the cultural differences. In Hong Kong, they only considered Chinese style in the park design. Also, they still overpriced the park. They didn t take into consideration the actual price level of the country and blindly set prices high so that visitors could not afford, and moved on to other amusement parks. Last is the marketing. Disney management did not market its entertainment concept. Like France, Hong Kong has their own cartoon image and was not familiar with Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. 7. Now that Hong Kong Disney is up and running, will the Shanghai development benefit from the Hong Kong experience? Disney management will know exceptionally well that doing research is the first step. • 23. Theme Of Alienation In Frankenstein People often find something wrong with things they do not view as normal, many times, these different aspects of the world draw ire or even hatred of those around them. Similarly, it is common that individuals within society will demean those who look, act, or sound differently. This problem spans cultures and generations, and, as with most problems, there are noble men and women who fight for the outside, the alienated, in different ways. One such method is through literature. In Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, the monster only wants to be accepted by the humanworld, but man constantly rejects him. It shows how people judge based on appearance and choose to alienate those who fail to conform to their expectations. Throughout the story, the monster encounters different people who all reject him because of how he appears. Victor spends two years attempting to create life, yet when he does, he immediately hates his creation: now that I had finished, but the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart (42). It is shocking how quick Victor is to judge his own work. As soon as he comes to life and Victor sees this monstrosity that he has created, he deems him hideous and feels his past two years were a waste of time. This shows how superficial Victor is. He spends years of work creating life, but decides that the monstrosity he creates is ugly and just leaves. He abandons this monster when he is in his infancy. What Victor does is ... I have personally had a few adults students from 18 all the way to 70 years old. He demonstrates to not make trouble for other people, to contain one s despair and self pity by sheer will power, and to not judge others and view the unenlightened with pity. They are discussing the difference between young and old and the differences between them. The old waiter can relate more to the deaf man and says, You do not understand. This is a clean and pleasant cafe. It is well lighted. The light is very good and also, now, there are shadows of the leaves. He understands the appeal of the cafe compared to the other places opened that late. He chooses to not judge the younger one for his ignorance, but instead feels sorry for him. Furthermore, the young waiter shows his unenlightenment when he talks about the old, deaf man. He is rambling on about how he has a life, where as, the old man s is over and does not matter ... • 41. Compare Beowulf And The Faerie Queene After reading the assigned stories I have chosen to write about the Faerie Queene and Beowulf. Both Redcrosse and Beowulf show the perfect hero in two periods, Both Beowulf and Redcrosse Knight exemplify the perfect hero in two separate periods, The Early Modern Period and The Middle Age. Beowulf shows the effect of the spread of Christianity, values heroic deeds and bravery above all else. Beowulf s heroism is explored in three separate conflicts, those with Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the sea monster. Redcrosse Knight, The Faerie Queen, show Holiness, though he is the individual Christian fighting against evil. The Faerie Queene, was written during the early modern period, shows a massive change in Christian religious practices. Redcrosse offers his services to Gloriana, Queen of Fairyland Una reveals that the dragon of hell has captured her parents and that she needs assistance in getting them free. Redcrosse takes on the challenge of getting her parents released (Canto 1). • 42. Little Miss Sunshine Film Analysis Essay The film Little Miss Sunshine, Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris, explores the lives of a regular American family and how they change their lives in front of us in the Combie van on the road to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. The film examines the issues of winning and losing, and what it means to be a winner, throughout many sequences in the film as well as exploring the value of family. The directors and the cinematic team use an extreme range of camera techniques, costuming, and sound techniques to reshape our understanding of winning and losing in the world we live in today. Firstly the directors and their team use a variety of different camera techniques to shape our view on the characters, and ultimately... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When all the competitors are introduced on stage we see Olive is far out of place just through her basic average costuming, compared to the other girls who are dressed like little Barbie dolls, with glittery clothes and excessive make up. Even though Olive is out of place and obviously doesn t belong in the competition, she still reflects Grandpa s view on classifying winners and losers which was introduced before he died. Grandpa believes that a real loser is someone who is so afraid of not winning they don t even try. Through the costuming and Olives actions the directors implant that view of winning and losing into the audience, which then reflects on our world today, as we need to show more support, not for the winners of a competition, but the courage people have developed to enter a competition. The Final key technique which is employed by the cinematic team of Little Miss Sunshine is the use of sound. Throughout the film there is an evident mixture of diegetic and non diegetic sounds. In the scene were Frank and Dwayne are out on the pier, starts with a non diegetic voice over from the Little Miss Sunshine pageant saying America, it s so beautiful . These words introduce the scene as the diegetic sounds of nature at the beach take over and remind us of nature s healing presence as we then see the first real bonding between Frank and Dwayne. The directors have chosen to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Bryan Caplan And The Austrian School According to economist Bryan Caplan, by the late twentieth century, a split had developed among those who self identify with the Austrian School. One group, building on the work of Hayek, follows the broad framework of mainstream neoclassical economics, including its use of mathematical models and general equilibrium, and brings a critical perspective to mainstream methodology merely influenced by the Austrian notions such as the economic calculation problem and the independent role of logical reasoning in developing economic theory.[33] Murray Rothbard A second group, following Mises and Rothbard, rejects the neoclassical theories of consumer and welfare economics, dismisses empirical methods and mathematical and statistical models as inapplicable to economic science, and asserts that economic theory went entirely astray in the twentieth century; they offer the Misesian view as a radical alternative paradigm to mainstream theory. Even though this ancient city lived over 2,000 years ago, their daily life has similarities to ours today. Daily life in Pompeiiis similar to us in various ways.
