Forge and Gatlinburg was fitting for this essay. During my time in Tennessee, I attended a car show
and I saw many Hippie vans and old style classic Volkswagen beetles. We walked the strip in
Gatlinburg and I came in close contact with many people who I thought were pretty close to Hippies.
The strip had tons of restaurants on each side and stores were filled with so many different people. But
mostly everyone was in touch with their hippie side or nature side. Many men had long untamed

The Flight to Canada by Ishamael Reed and The Different Drummer by Melvin Kelley were powerful
and uplifting. The main subject of these two novels are slavery and freedom allowing the characters to
search for their identity either spiritually or physically. The Different Drummer is the novel that
encourages us to strive and push oneself to make a real difference in life, and stop taking our lives and
existence for granted. Both novels detailed the story of the main characters, that were striving to leave

Question #1 A principle is a fundamental source or basis of something. A principle cannot be proven,
because to prove something we have to go back to the basics and principle is basis of everything.
Although, what most philosophers seem to be doing to prove the validity of their theories is by
showing that if we accept something else as a principle it would make no sense. The Pre Socratic
philosophers were all searching for that one fundamental principle of reality that everything is based
on. That factor was called arche, which literally means beginning, origin or a source of something.
The Pre Socratic philosophers are called that because they all came before Socrates, and he is a major
figure in ancient philosophy, because he was the first person to develop it as a distinct kind of
knowledge. Most of the early philosophers were looking for a materialistic arche.
Thales of Miletus (624 546 BC) is considered to be the first philosopher and he considered water to be
the fundamental principle of everything. He thought that all things were composed of water, because it
could take all three forms (liquid, solid and gas). He also observed that all living things needed water
to stay alive and grow. Aristotle wrote about Thales views: nourishment of all things is moist, and that

To test the rate of photosynthesis in spinach leaves, we placed a spinach thylakoids mixed with
dichlorophenol indophenol (DPIP) in front of various lights treatments. In total, there were 5 cuvettes
which all received different lighting. One was a control which contained no thylakoids, another had no
light at all, the third cuvette was completely open to all possible light, the fourth was covered with a
green translucent paper, and the final cuvette was covered with a red translucent paper. In five minute
intervals, the transmittance was measured using a spectrophotometer which allowed the rate of
photosynthesis to be measured. Upon completion of this lab, the white light produced the highest rate

Once the spectrophotometer was set to the appropriate wavelength, distilled water was added to a
cuvette that had been cleaned and any oil or fingerprints were removed. This was used to zero out the

Amp Meeting Reflection
Today I went to my first AMP meeting. It was completely different than I expected, but I think that
will turn out to be a good thing. In the beginning I thought this was a program for youth to attend
voluntarily, and I thought most of the attendees would be from families with foster or kinship care. I
was wrong, as most of the attendees were from group homes around Ames and they were there as part
of their recovery process. This shocked me a little but in just the short amount of time I spent with
them I grew to really like them. I think that often youth in group homes are stigmatized and thought of
as bad kids, when in reality most of them just haven t had the support they need or grew up in poor
environments that lead them to where they are.

easy way to tell that Queen Gertrude is innocent is that the ghost of King Hamlet told Hamlet not to
get revenge on her. When the ghost first appears to Hamlet he explains to him that he was murdered
by his own brother, and that he wants vengeance. However, the ghost makes it clear that the only
revenge he wants is on Claudius, and even specifies that Hamlet is to leave his mother alone by saying
Taint not thy mind, nor let thy soul contrive/ Against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven. By
saying this the ghost is making sure that Hamlet knows that he doesn t want revenge on his mother for
marrying this murderous man. Instead he simply wants revenge on the one who was responsible, so if
Gertrude had been involved he would have wanted revenge on her as well. Since the ghost specifies to
leave Gertrude alone, it can be inferred that she did not know that the death of King Hamlet was a
murder, or who was responsible. Another way to tell that Gertrude is clueless about the murder of
King Hamlet is her response to mentions of it. While Gertrude and Hamlet are arguing in her room,
Hamlet makes remarks about what has happened and she seems genuinely confused and shocked. For
example when she says how horrible of a thing it was for Hamlet to kill Polonius and he asks if it is as
bad as killing a king, to which she responds As kill a king? (III.IV.31) If she had known about the
murder she would have tried to defend it or protect herself.
