Part One: Summary In the article Unspeakable Ethics, Unnatural Laws, Arthur A. Leff took an
agnostic approach when determining what morality should be comprised of. He suggested that
humans struggle with desiring to follow a predetermined and unchallengeable set of moral rules, while
at the same time wanting the autonomy to create those rules.
If ethical rules are preordained, they would need to come from a supernatural being that was unruled,
unjudged, and beyond question: God. If God exists, we are created to fit into His system and should
therefore abide by His rules. God dictates the laws of the world through what Leff refers to as
performative utterances . These utterances are essentially His will made into reality via His command.
Performative utterances are the act of God creating the rules that govern the world. He is the only
being who has the capacity to do this without facing the inevitable says who mentality.
This sort of attitude ensues when beings of equal rank differ in their opinions of what is right and what
is wrong, with no overarching authority. It is this problem in particular that leads philosophers to
despair; if there is no God, there is no steady ethical or legal system that can be put into place. There is
nothing more correct or more flawed than anything else. There will never be progress, as you cannot
progress from something you cannot deem to be less suitable. If there is no such higher being, we are
all that is left to decide for

The River Creedy s gradient slope is 1.9% which indicates that the flow rate is at a medium rate. This
river also has a high nutrient level as there are runoffs from farm land and with the flow rates not as
fast as the Exe then the nutrients as staying within area rather than getting washed away. Dace are

Personal Essay Sometimes as a Christian it can be easy to not recognize the Old Testament, but reality
is that Jesus is all throughout the Old Testament and it is still relevant. There is so much that we can

in the passage Joel chapter two verses twenty eight through thirty two specifically and a few of the
verses around it. I also wanted to look into how it translated and became relevant in the New
Testament. This passage is titled The Lord s Promise of His Spirit , and it is written by the Prophet
Joel. The prophet Joel was a prophet in Judah when there was a split in the kingdom of Israel. Joel is a
very small book in comparison to other books, but it is very eventful in its three chapters. The fist two
chapters are basically about judgment on Judah while the end of chapter two and chapter three are

Mining is the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine. A new mining
project, called the Back Forty, is was proposed and is located on the Michigan and Wisconsin border.
This project is said to begin around 2020 and created concern for some people. The Aquila Resources
Inc. is the company behind this proposal, and they said it will invest more than $300 million to extract
gold, zinc, copper and silver along the Menominee River (Bergquist, 2016). The Menominee river is
part of the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The mine will have large effects on the
environment and economy for Lake Michigan and Wisconsin. The next paragraphs will discuss the
positive and negative effects that the Back Forty could create. One side would be for the mine and say
that the economic benefits would outweigh the negative effects on the environment, while the
opposing side would say the opposite.
To begin, those who are for mining would say that the Back Forty will have positive effects on the
economy in places near it. Many people could assume that opening a mine could create more jobs, and
essentially help the economy. One example, from another mine from Hunter Valley, is that mining
provided the major source of energy for industry, transport and economic development, (Cottle, 2013).

history. The novel follows a young slave girl, Cora, on her historic venture through delusional

All three books demand connection not only because they are printed together, but also because of
their relevance to their respective stories as seen above. This distinction is important to make because
without it there is no need to question if they enhance or hinder the story. If each form only resided
beside the narratives because the author said so then they would simply be a hindrance. Without this
distinction, it would be justifiable to skip U.S.A. s various forms so that readers could return to Mac s
