Authority In Lord Of The Flies
What would happen if humans were left alone without authority? Would they want to help each other
or go off and try to satisfy their own needs? William Golding s Lord of the Flies entertains the idea
that all humans are cruel and selfish within. Golding has a group of young boys stranded onto a
secluded island. Having to fend for themselves the boys begin to act violent and selfish for their own
personal agendas. The longer the young boys stay on the island, the more selfish, cruel thoughts and
actions emerge from within them. The novel starts by introducing the group of young, friendly looking
kids. The group of kids collect themselves and wonder where authority is. Aren t there any grownups?
Jack Merridew, one of the boys, asks around (Golding 21). With no real authority figure, the boys
decide to band together, increasing their ability to survive. In the first moments of the book, the boys
are introducing themselves. Piggy, being overweight and wearing glasses, is bullied and tormented by
the group. A storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child joined in. For the moment the boys were
a closed circuit of sympathy with Piggy outside: he went very pink, bowed his head , and cleaned his
glasses again (Golding 21). After the boys have established that there is no real authoritarian figure
supervising them, the tormenting and bullying for their own amusement begins. If there had been an
authoritative figure their supervising them the group of boys would have

Futurist Manifesto
An Italian avant garde art movement that took speed, technology and modernity as its inspiration, is
where new ideas were introduced to society. Futurism portrayed the dynamic character of 20th century
life, glorified war and the machine age, and favored the growth of Fascism. Created at the turn of the
twentieth century, the Futurist Manifesto stands out as the announcer of the new artistic movement,
but its significance is much broader than the field of visual culture. It is conceived by Marinetti as a
new force of Italian cultural revival, the one that is tired of stale and unproductive adherence to the
past, and is instead urging for the creation of modern Italy. This new society whose principles should
be based on the idea of progress,

Relationship Essay (Gilbert Grape)
In the film What s Eating Gilbert Grape? directed by Lasse Halstrom, one important relationship is
between Gilbert (the main character) and his mother, Bonnie. They are always in constant turmoil, and
hardly ever see eye to eye. Towards the end of the film their attitudes change towards each other, we
see their relationship strain and then become extremely close. This is important because they don t
have a real mother, son relationship so this is worked on during the film. Gilbert is not an honest,
reliable son; he looks after Arnie, but does not fulfil his duties as a son. He is constantly making fun or
sarcastic comments about his mother. For example, Tucker, one of his best friends, is trying to have a

An Evaluation Of An Auditory Brainstem Response
An auditory brainstem response is an electrical potential generated from the changes in neural activity
when an acoustic stimulus is presented into the ear. Stimuli in the form of clicks, tonebursts or chirps
are transmitted through a transducer and measured using surface electrodes positioned on the scalp.
The elicited waveform response consists of 7 waves that occur within a period of 10ms after the
presented stimuli. Each waveform peak is labeled from I VII where each wave corresponds to a neural
generator within the auditory pathway. Just like other auditory evoked potentials such as the middle
latency response, the response depends relatively on the pathological factors, non pathological factors,
acquisition parameters, stimulus parameters as well as the noise and interference. Consequently, this
has meant that a great deal of research has been conducted into investigating these potential effects on
the ABR, especially as it is commonly used in clinical practice such as for evaluating retrocochlear
pathology, detecting permanent childhood hearing loss in newborn hearing screens and intraoperative
monitoring during surgery. These findings usually influence the test conditions used in protocols and
guidance for clinical practice. Whilst previous literature focus their experiments in order to find a
significant difference in the ABR waveform, very few studies explore what these parameters and
factors have on the quality aspect of the recording. This study will primarily

Is It Okay To Torture By Richard Fisher Summary
With Robots becoming a popular part of our everyday lives people are beginning to question if people
are treating robots with the same respect that they treat people with. Researchers are also beginning to
wonder if there need to be laws to protect robots from being tortured or even killed. Scientists have
done research to test and see if people react the same to robots as they would to actual people or
animals. In Is it Okay to Torture or Murder a Robot Richard Fisher contemplates the reason on why it
is wrong to hurt or kill a robot by using a stern and unbiased tone. The author s purpose of this essay is
contemplating whether or not laws should be made protecting robots. Throughout the essay he uses
evidence from scientists who have dones tests, and it shows how people act. ... Show more content on

The author never puts his opinions through the article he states what scientist have found out from
research. On page 4 Fisher quotes Dr. Rault who said, Robots can, without a doubt, trigger human
emotions. This is a great example in the article when he Fisher gives examples of what researchers
thinks that makes the point come across without putting his own opinion in the article. Fisher also uses
a stern tone that does not show emotion, yet gets the point across. He does not put his own opinions or
thoughts that could show humor, instead he consistently keeps with a tone that is very stern, and does
not make any jokes about a topic that could easily have humor brought into it. One way that Fisher
shows sternness throughout the article is by giving facts, numbers, and data from experiments that
have been tested. One page 3 Fisher writes, After an hour of play, the people refused to hurt their Plea
with the weapons they had been given. This is a fact that Fisher had obtained from the data of the tests
results which is one way that he is able to write his article with being

After being set free for an act of crime he has committed, Javert realizes that his ideals on duty and
that all criminals are unjust may not be as absolute as he once believed. After capturing JVJ for the
first time, he makes it his life goal to put an end to JVJ. He follows him around Europe and even
becomes a spy to see JVJ. When he get s caught for being a spy by the revolutionaries in the war, he is
sentenced to death and JVJ is the one to kill him. However, JVJ only pretends to kill him, and he lets
Javert free. Javert knows that getting killed would have been the right thing to do according to the law,

Javert s ideas were overturned. (pg 530/531) Javert depicts his thoughts as a rebellion because they are
going against his lifelong beliefs and it begins to irritate him . He knows that having one distinct
outcome for anyone who has committed a crime would be the easy way out of things, but he is unable
to control himself from now thinking that there is more than one right answer. He had always believed
that strict authority and giving people sentences was the right call for every case he had, but now these
phrases show less of an impact due to his overturned ideas. It is in this moment that Hugo shows the
change that is brewing within Javert, as he is beginning to not only realize that there is more that one
solution to those who commit crimes, but he s beginning to make an effort to perform actions that
show he does believe in second chances. Javert knows that time is running out and he must make a
decision on what to do with JVJ

Struggle Between Hindu and Secular Nationalisms in India
India holds a prominent place in the history of imperialism and decolonization, making recent events
in this country of nearly one billion especially important to the current day citizen. India also faces
problems associated with accommodating religion and diversity within a large federal republic,
making their experience important for Americans concerned with these issues. India faces growing
action of governing which invites the use of violence to achieve political objectives. In spite of India s
size and importance, it is hard for an American to gain an understanding of the issues and conflicts
which have set the stage for the most recent revival of Hindu nationalism. The ... Show more content

Nijhawan remarks, the contending sides swear by secularism. However, secularism as it has come to
be practiced by the Congress Party and the Indian government (hereafter referred to simply as
secularism) comes under scrutiny for four general reasons: the unequal treatment of different religious
groups, the implied hostility to religion, the poor translation of secularism from the West to India and
the inability of secularism to create a national identity for India. That both sides attempt to appropriate
the term secularism can lead to confusion; even the U.S. government had some problems in its effort
to catagorize the debate about secularism. In the opinion of the Hindu nationalist, the Congress
commitment to secularism does not bring about the tolerance, the Sarva Dharma Sambhava to be
expected of Hindu rulers. P.N. Joshi, President of the Rashtriya Hindu Manch, a militant Hindu
organization, explains in his 150 page pamphlet, Secularism in Action: A Fraud, A Conspiracy to
Destroy Hinduism that in reality, the picture of secularism in action in this country is neither beautiful
not presentable ... in fact, it is ugly and abominable and the produce even though so well packed in

Watching the 2016 Republican candidates battle for the presidency of the United States, one might

number of times Donald Trump mentioned China. One of the comments coming from Jeb Bush was I

For more than 30 years before Reagan took office, the United States and its allies had tried
unsuccessfully to rein in communism. Reagan believed that communism in the Soviet Union was
eroding and ready to crumble, expecting its collapse if competitively challenged by America. An arms
race had been ongoing between the U.S. and Russia for some time. Reagan, however, was determined
to put an end to it. Reagan began the competition with a very costly project known as the Strategic
Defense Initiative, aimed at neutralizing incoming Soviet missiles. This shocked the Soviet Union,
which was economically unable to match this rapid escalation of the arms race (CITE).
After winning his second term as president, Ronald Reagan established what is now known as The
Reagan Doctrine, which provided support, both financially and militarily, for anti communist fighters
throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America (CITE). The policy s goal was to eliminate tyrannical
governments and promote individual liberties, freedom, and democracy. The Reagan doctrine became
the centerpiece of the Reagan administration by successfully stopping the Soviet Union from
spreading its communist control over specific regions of the world.
In 1985, a new leader by the name of Mikhail Gorbachev came to the political forefront of the Soviet
Union. Reagan saw this as his final opportunity to completely destroy the threat of communism once

Du Bois believed that these initiatives were crucial in order to catch up to whites and establish a

overlapping ideas on progressive education from the Early Republic era. However, the main additive
to the scene during the Progressive Era by Du Bois was to establish political opportunity for African
Americans. This would have to be accomplished by recognizing black identity through cultural and
intellectual movements. Overall, these historical concepts and leaders opened up opportunities to

Are People Living In American Equal Today
Are all people living in American equal today? The big question that nowadays Americans ask to
themselves. People still are not created equal. Despite being in the twenty first century is still seen
racism and feminism. America has a percentage of racist people, and they have black people and do
not like to see them. But the racism is not only with Africa American people, it is also with Spanish
people. For example, today the president of the United States Donald Trump is a racist person, and he
repeatedly times told that he does not want the Mexicans in this country. He wants to deport them.
Trump said When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best. ... They re sending people
that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They
re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people (Kopan). But the president in

Genocides Past and Present Essay
Genocides Past and Present Genocide, a dire event, has been recurring time and time again throughout
history. In the past, there was the Holocaust, where Hitler exterminated over six million Jews based on
his anti semitic views. Elie Wiesel, a Jewish author, has become a very influential man in educating
the world of the true events of the Holocaust due to his involvement in the disaster. Presently, a
genocide is occurring in the Darfur region of southern Sudan, in which according to Cheryl Goldmark,
a systematic slaughter of non Arab residents at the the hands of Arab militiamen called Janjaweed has

Adolf Hitler, and his Nazi Party that followed him, began persecuting Jews in 1933. Adolf Hitler, the
mastermind behind the Holocaust, was an anti semitic man who believed in a superior Arian German
race. Hitler s rise to power was just the beginning of a series of events that almost led to the complete
annihilation of many countries Jewish population. First, laws that limited the Jew s rights were
applied. Next, their valuables were taken from their possession, and then the innocent people were
forced into cramped ghettos lined with barbwire. According to Sally Marks, the term holocaust is
derived from the Greek language and literally means a sacrifice totally consumed by fire . (1) Living
up to its definition, during the Holocaust many Jews were burned in the fiery mouths of the
crematoriums. The impact of the segregational laws as well as being forced into ghettos were only the
beginning of the inhumane crimes the Jews were subjected to during the Holocaust. Concentration
camps were horrible places filled with starvation, dangerous work, and death. After being taken out of
the ghettos Jews were most often carted like caged animals to the camps. There, if not immediately
sentenced to death during selection, the people were stripped of their identity and thrown into a
situation no human deserves to be in. Many Jews either lost their faith or used it as a tool for survival.
Many asked themselves, is there a god, or is this a test of faith? (Sheldon 1) Given

Farming Is The Nation s Most Important And Noblest...
When you think about farming what comes to mind? Do you think about older gentlemen on tractors,
or young boys helping there father feed the family herd. Maybe you even think about thousands of
acres of corn land in Iowa. Whatever it is I can assure you farming is the nation s most important and
noblest profession. Today farming is seen as a dangerous profession, that s not necessarily the case, it
is true that many people are injured and even killed on farms each year. In 2012 alone three hundred
and seventy four farmers and farm workers lost there lives due to work related injuries, and every day
a staggering one hundred and sixty seven agriculture workers suffer a work related injury (CDC
2012). But why so many? The simple answer is that when it comes to farm safety many people are
ignorant. I myself am guilty of not using the proper safety equipment or even removing a safety shield
to make things run more efficient. I think we have it hardwired in our brains that bad things only
happen to other people, and nothing bad could happen to ourselves, that s not the case. I think that if
farmers will take the time to slow down and be more careful and think things through we will cut
down drastically on injuries. If you think about it many farmers are constantly stressed, they simply
don t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand so they begin to rush which
causes shortcuts to be made which can potentially lead to injury or death.

What Does Mrs Potato Head Mean
Mrs. Potato Head is a song by the musical artist Melanie Martinez, from her Crybaby album, which I
enjoy listening to for its dark themes mixed with innocent and childlike elements. This song is a part
of the album s collective story following a girl named Crybaby, and her experiences with many issues
such as poor family structure, loneliness, heartbreak, and societal pressures. This song specifically
follows Crybaby taking in the societal pressures to be beautiful, and trying to understand the messages
of it and if it is worth all the changes she would have to make to herself. Mrs. Potato Head is a look at
how modern society s beauty standards for women are observed and questioned through the eyes of a
young girl; it shows us how far people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of many lines, there are also multiple dactylic feet, sexual and vegetable (Martinez 5 7),
creating an aloof sing song pattern which does not often sound appropriate for serious subject matter
(Literary). The sing song pattern contradicting the very serious subject of this song are how Melanie s
songs usually sound. The disruption of patterns and volatile tones of her songs achieve a unique
perspective for her listeners. I believe it s a way to make people see how chaotic life can be, exposing
the fact that we like to believe we have total control over our lives when we don t. We can be easily
influenced by others. There is also a pattern of iambic feet in key portions of the song, particularly
where Crybaby is asking Mrs. and Mr. Potato Head whether the pain and money are worth their
perfect looks, and if their love lasts beyond those looks: tell me and pain is on line 12, afford on line

Military Recruit
As much as sergeants, did not like a lowly recruit to refer to them as officers, the reverse was doubly
so. The first time I did this to him; he jumped me and likely thought I was not being observant. The
next few times he might have thought I was crazy, as he had me drop and give him twenty. After that, I
got to the point, if I saw him, passed him, or he passed me, I would stop and assume that I called had

at seeing him, shake his head and walk away. Like a cat, I seemed to live by my habits, or more
specifically they were my default settings.
The first platoon drill instructor would call me from across the field or training area just to tell me he
did not like me, which made me late for wherever I was going, to be punished for being tardy. After a

Analyzing the Juvenile Justice System
The juvenile justice system is imperfect, at best, and part of this stems from the fact that juvenile
justice, as a specific, discrete category of crime and punishment is still a relatively recent
phenomenon. In fact, the notion of childhood and adolescence as distinct phases of human
development is a novel idea that did not truly emerge until the twentieth century, so it is only natural
that some elements of the juvenile justice system seem to have been made up they went along. Now,
however, after substantial research into juvenile delinquency, it causes, and potential solutions, a much
clearer picture of the phenomenon is emerging that will allow parents, teachers, legislators, and law
enforcement officials to better reduce juvenile delinquency without imposing unnecessarily harsh
restrictions of juveniles. By examining the history of the juvenile justice system alongside more recent
research into juvenile delinquency, it will be possible to see how the most effective treatments going
forward will likely focus on reducing risk before delinquency occurs and rehabilitating juveniles
already in the justice system, as opposed to more punitive measures that mark juveniles as a criminal
and thus hinder them for the rest of their lives. It is necessary to begin this study with a look at the
history of the juvenile justice system, because as mentioned above, the notion of childhood and
adolescence as a distinct phase of human development, and thus deserving of special

Nomadic Human Hazing
Introduction
What is hazing? As stated by Alvarez D.M. (2015) hazing can be defined as the practice of initiating
new members into a group, often through harassment and humiliation . (p.43) However, if hazing is so
bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act
of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social
animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all
social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. A lone wolf attempting to join a new pack must
follow a certain form of behaviors, if the new wolf is not deemed worthy it is either driven off or
killed. Ancient nomadic humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be used as an additional form of correction for offenders (Mowrey, R., 2012. The general
form of punishment for hazing is dismissal from the organization (Mowrey, R., 2012.) This is not the
same as dismissal from the school, generally a person is dismissed from a fraternity, sorority, team or
community they were a part of. This form a punishment, though a strong deterrent, has its drawbacks
although common, the dismissal approach fails to address the harm done to the affect communities,
such as the team, school, or organization. (Mowrey, R., 2012). Restorative justice is not some mythical
state that requires chanting and incense. What would happen is that the offenders and the affected
parties would meet after the original punishment. The affected person or persons would state exactly
what they were thinking during the hazing and what they need to feel right again (Mowrey, R., 2012).
The offender would not be left voiceless, they would be given time to speak about what they were
thinking and what they feel is just repayment. This sounds like it might just be a waste of time, but it
is actually proven to decrease revenge acts against victims, it also increases the amount of satisfaction
victims feel with their cases (Mowrey, R., 2012). Often the perpetrators offer genuine statements of
remorse (Mowrey, R.,

Factors Contributing To An Individual Being Vulnerable To...
There are a vast amount of factors that can contribute to an individual being more vulnerable to abuse,
these include:
An individual may be less aware of their rights this can leave them more vulnerable to abuse because
they may not know that they are entitled something so they are unaware that they are being abused, for
example, a person may not be aware they have the right to have their choices taken into consideration
and be protected, this could lead to them agreeing to treatment they are not comfortable with because
they do not know they can ask for the treatment to be carried out a different way.

The Legal Rights And Responsibilities Of The Tenant...
Landlord Tenant Law
April N. Wright
Professor Francis Hatstat
Business Law 1
8/3/2016
Q. 1.Explore the legal rights and responsibilities of the tenant and the landlord.
Tenant landlord law
The federal registration as well the state property laws lays out the laws surrounding both the tenant
and the landlord. Houses, mobile homes, apartments, are governed property laws. These laws are
documented in the Landlord and Tenant Acts 1967 to 1994, Residential Tenancies (Amendment) as
well as Residential Tenancies Act 2004. These laws do not cover tenants who have rented a room in
the landlord s home. Despite the fact that leases and agreements are agreed upon by the customer and
the client, they cannot be take away the rights under the legislation. Both the tenants and landlords
have both rights and obligations (Dowden,2014).
Rights of a tenant
A tenant has a right to enjoy a quiet and exclusive home. A tenant can ask the other tenants to reduce
noise, if it is disturbing, and if this is not stopped, he can file a formal complaint.
Every tenant is entitled to a minimum accommodation standard. For example, the landlord must
ensure that the property is under proper structural repair. The property should be in a proper state
including doors, stairs, tiles etc. All the areas must be maintained in good condition and repair and
must not be defective due to dumpiness. Equipment and machines under laundry, food preparation and
food storage should be availed. Some of these are

Verkerk s FMR1 Genetic Disorder
INTRODUCTION
Verkerk discovered the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene in 1991, in individuals with a
chromosomal instability at the 5 untranslated exon 1 on the long arm of the X chromosome (Xq27.3),
a location closely related to autoimmunity (Verkerk et al., 1991). The position of this unstable region
in a non coding exon is a typical trait shared by other nucleotide repeat disorders, even though the
reason of such association remains unknown. At present, more than 30 genetic disorders, often and
curiously presenting with neurological impairment, share an altered number of repeated nucleotides,
albeit the FMR1 gene mutation is undoubtedly the most studied. A CGG triplet repeat expansion
characterizes the FMR1 gene mutation. Although belonging to the genetic conditions ... Show more

It is widely acknowledged that the X chromosome instability at Xq27.3 originates by a dynamic
mutation with a variable expansion of a trinucleotide (CGG) repeat (Budworth and McMurray, 2013).
This gene instability seems to rely in the loss of AGG triplet inserts commonly identified every 9 10
CGG triplets (Dombrowski et al., 2002). These AGG triplet repeats, accountable for alleles stability of
the CGG expansion, may deeply influence the risk of full mutation, as in individuals carrying the
same number of CGG repeats, such risk shows a 10 fold increase. The AGG inserts may then
influence the remodelling phenomena essential for the modulation of the neurosignals, as they limit
the further expansion of the CGG repeats (Eichler et al., 1994). Microsatellites and triplet repeats
probably contribute, during the adaptive evolution, to the species diversity, thus representing a central
mutational event (Kashi and King,

Analysis Of Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard
Ties that Bind In Russian writer Anton Chekhov s play, The Cherry Orchard, Chekhov tells the story
of a family in crisis and instability at the beginning of the 20th century. The family is about to lose
their beloved cherry tree orchard estate because they cannot pay the mortgage. The play, written in
1904, only one year before the first Russian Revolution (1905 1907), is a rendering of the social
changes and reform that Russia was experiencing. Chekhov died in 1904 just months before the
uprising called Bloody Sunday and was himself the grandson of an emancipated serf (Marks, n.d.) In
The Cherry Orchard, there are no riots or raised and clenched fists, but it is a subtler reflection of the
times, and the death and demise of the Russian aristocracy and the making of a middle class.
However, post slavery or serfdom, the chains that bind humans are not always visible. The way
Chekhov portrayed the former serfs in his play seems to whitewash reality and allow the audience to
conveniently forget the past. Perhaps he did this with purpose. In American film and literature, we
took the same tack until the latter part of the 20th century. In Chekhov s play and in America the help
comes across as one of the family, free of the emotional pain of the past and are portrayed as happy
and willing to serve. The emotional slavery represented in The Cherry Orchard is not limited to the
former serfs but also includes the aristocracy and middle class as well. In modern times, Chekhov s

Grief In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
Universal Statement: In life, everyone has experienced the loss of someone they loved, and the way
the greave can show their true motivations. In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour Louise Mallard is
left without a husband but her form of grief is different than mosts.
Thesis: Louise Mallard immediately weeps after the news of her husband Brently s alleged death in a
railroad accident, subsequently Louise stares out of her bedroom window viewing the rebirth of
spring, revealing her new found independence after the loss of her spouse.
Topic Statement #1 When told the news of her husband s death, Louise Mallard shows no denial and
weeps immediately out of acceptance, exposing the lack of devotion she had towards Brently.

In the case of Louise Mallard, marriage is her winter, without her husband she is a new independent
women with another opportunity at life. When it is revealed Brently is dead Louise goes to her
bedroom and watches out her window; if she had seen a dark winter day then that would have
signified her sadness about the news, but instead the day was previously rainy and once she becomes
aware of his death she sees the blossoming spring. Louise Mallard s marriage was represented as a
rainy day, but once she became independent, her life became brighter and more free.
Topic Statement #3 The freedom that Louise Mallard feels after the death of Brently Mallard exposes
the isolation she felt in her marriage and how she never actually wanted to be married.
Body support (Feminist): From the motif of freedom it is seen that Louise was free after the death of
her husband. Though Louise loved her husband, she could not be herself if she was married. In the
19th century it was almost a necessity for a women to be married, divorce was not an option because
at the time women depended on the man of the household to earn a living for the whole family. If the
roles were switched in this story, Brently would have been able to live freely and could have left
Louise because the patriarch has final say over family decisions. Louise was trapped in her own
marriage; she never actually wanted to be married in the first

Ray! Danielle yelled, chasing after her tiger, Calm down! The Grand Sorceress will be here any
minute! Ray skid to a stop, nearly crushing some flowers. The Grand Sorceress? She s coming today!
Oh I must make my golden fur coat look as dashing as possible! Danielle, help me! I don t have arms
or magic! I can t do it myself! Danielle stood there with a look of annoyance on her face. You ve got it
all dirty running around. Now, I have to use my magic, as the Grand Sorceress former apprentice, to
clean up a tiger s fur. With a swoosh of her hand, Danielle cleaned up Ray, still annoyed about having
to do so. A bright flurry of light appeared by the stream in the garden. Danielle and Ray immediately
stood nicely, ignoring what had happened only a minute ago. Hello Danielle, Hello Ray Ray bowed,
leaving Danielle to reply Hello, Grand Sorceress, welcome to my hideaway. Danielle did an
impromptu curtsy, desperately trying not to fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fear In Literature Of H. G. Wells And Ray Bradbury
Fear is the driving force behind change. When a human being feels they are in danger, the response is
to protect themselves. Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to
quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them (Sussex
People, 1). Some people will approach the thrill lifestyle willingly, while others will stay away from it
at all costs. When interpreting literature, it is important to understand what was the cause of the
writing. In most science fiction pieces, the answer is fear.
This same truth is evident in the literary works of two authors who shared similar ideas due to
catastrophes going on in the world around them. H.G. Wells grew up during an industrial advancement
in Europe. This advancement impacted the wars that were going on greatly. Killing was made more
efficient and less personal. This affected the morals of the European society.
H.G. Wells noticed the issue, and addressed them in his writing. Ray Bradbury also grew up in a time
of war. The development of nuclear biological warfare greatly impacted his career. His fear of the end
of the world by technology was the supreme basis of all of his works. By applying a historical lense,
readers can observe that H.G Wells and Ray Bradbury are afraid of modernising technology due to
their fear of bad ethics.
The idea of being invisible has always been in the imaginations of children and regarded as a cool
science. H.G. Wells confronts

The Morality Of Ozymandias In The Film
The problem with the Film lies in the omission of this single page from the comic, it is the last we see
of both Dr. Manhattan Ozymandias in the comic. Ozymandias has left to meditate and Manhattan
comes to talk to him Ozymandias says to Manhattan
Play Scene from motion graphic Novel
Though Veidt has been proud throughout the whole story, for one moment in the entire comic he lets
down his guard. He is not the one being paraded around and asked questions, now, the smartest man
on earth has a question and it is a question about the morality of his actions.
He says, I did the right thing didn t I? It all worked out in the end.
Manhattan answers, In the end , Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends.
The last 2 panels of ozymandias feature him lowering his hand in defeat and lastly, him alone in his
study with his shadow looming over him. This scene is not included in the Film and thus turns Veidt
into a much less dynamic character. The Film contains no mention of him being haunted by the Black
Freighter and his feel every death line is a throwaway line. In a superhero world that is praised for all
the of the heroes being complex and vulnerable, the least vulnerable person in the world shows
vulnerability and it has impact. Not having this makes Ozzy a much less complex villain.
Watchmen is a failure of a Film because it doesn t have a strong sense of identity, it doesn t exist
independently of the comic and even in its effort to replicate the comic it fails to

Policy Essay #2
Privacy
In today s world, Privacy and Security comes hand in hand with internet. Technology allows us free
speech and freedom of information over the internet, by imposing strict laws and policies regulating
the privacy and security of our information. According to Richard Clarke, free expression over the
internet and its privacy are two sides of the same coin (Privacy and security(n.d.)). Writing blogs,
uploading posts, comments or pictures on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, networking or sharing links
on Linkedin are all considered as our free expression and its security is our right. Individual right to ...

This policy is applicable only on the search engines. The individual can request the search engine
companies to not show his information like blogs, news, videos, articles or websites when someone
searches about him. However, the news channels, media, websites or blogs can retain the information
but the search engines cannot show the information publicly on search machines. The individual can
only request for putting down the links, but the decision is on the search engine company if they
would accept the individual s request. In my opinion, I believe such law should be diminished. If this
continues, a criminal, a doctor, a pharmacist, an engineer or a politician can remove their earlier
misdeeds from the search engines. People would not be able to access their background and might
take some wrong decisions. Individuals can get away from their earlier malicious deeds just due to this
law of Right to be Forgotten that hides such individual s information from the common people. This
goes against the right to get access to information or freedom of information for common people. For
example, if a doctor has some negative record about a surgery that went wrong leading to a patient s
death and he removes such information from the search engine, people cannot take the right decision
whether to choose the doctor. Again, people might end up voting a politician who has corruption cases
against him. If there is review about a restaurant serving unhealthy food,

How Children s Services Have Evolved Into Their Current Form
This essay will show how and why children s services have evolved into their current form in the UK.
It will explore children s services from the 19th to the 21st century and show how they have changed
and developed. This essay will look at the welfare state in relation to the Beveridge report, the creation
of the NHS and other children s services, political ideologies and policies and legislation. It will
conclude with modern day future challenges of children s services including the five social evils.
Children s services support and protect vulnerable children, young people, their families and carers.
(nhs.co.uk) According to Malcolm Hill (2012), if as societies are to achieve the best for all children
and particularly who are in need, it will require providing them with the best possible services. During
the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, there was great wealth and also great poverty. Most
middle class children worked in factories and mills; factory owners employed children as they didn t
complain and were also cheap to pay. During Victorian Britain, there were no laws to protect children
from work. Lord Shaftesbury argued in parliament for laws to be changed; inspectors went into
factories to find out what they were really like, this resulted in three laws to be passed. These were
1841 Mines Act, 1847 Ten Hour Act and 1874 Factory Act. By 1874 no child under ten would be
employed in factories. (www.bbc.co.uk) In 1870, the government passed a law, drafted

Keeping Students In High School
People argue about whether to keep students in school until they turn 18. However, contrary to what
people may think school should keep students until they are of 18. Since people with high school
diploma have more money, less chance of getting into jail or getting public assistance.
Without a high school diploma, the students earn less money. In a 2009 graph the average income by
education stated that high school dropouts make $19,540. Meanwhile someone that has completed
high school makes around $27,380. With this knowledge we can infer some things such as, with the
dropout they could barely afford a place to live and food. But with the high school education that
person can get a place to live, food, and start going to college or a university.

Cultural And Social Norms In Dan Baum s Nine Lives
When you think about New Orleans, you think about the diverse nightlife and the handing out of gold,
purple, and green beads during Mardi Gras. You think about Bourbon Street, French Quarter, and the
wild nightlife that is unique to New Orleans. However, New Orleans offers a vibrant and complicated
history that explains the culture that is one of a kind. It also offers traditions that are practiced
exclusively in New Orleans, and contribute to the character of the city. Nine Lives by Dan Baum
illustrates nine different people s stories that are from New Orleans, and explains their backgrounds
and their individual experiences. They all display different facets of life in the city. Wilbert Rawlings
Jr, John Guidos, and Joyce Montana were three characters in Baum s Nine Lives who were the three
most intriguing and diverse stories that portrayed three very distinct and different perspectives of New
Orleans, and showed the diverse cultures and social norms that are practiced. ... Show more content on

Currently 29% of the nursing work force in pediatrics has less than 2 years experience on the floor. A
continued focus on ongoing education and competencies is an ongoing focus but a challenge with the
limited financial resources. Offering this certification course and the contract from the nurse that they
will sit for their certification in the allotted time frame is a way to go above and beyond the minimum
and make sure even our novice staff meet the national pediatric nursing standard. This supports St.
Luke s goal of having % nurse certified workforce. It also prepares for facility accreditation and
Magnet recertification. Currently Pediatrics has a 16% certification rate, 10 nurses with 44 nurses

Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in light
of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of Man did
not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This verse
embodies one of the components of a true hero s character. The biblical heroes mentioned above were
humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God
s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but their lives
demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others. Noah obeyed God s
command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the Flood. Moses led the
grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually pleading with Pharaoh to
let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the Israelites around Jericho s
walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King Nebuchadnezzar s presence,
asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose Haman s evil plans and save the
Jews. In Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main characters, Long John Silver and Jim
Hawkins, do not measure up in comparison to this biblical standard of heroism. Therefore, neither
Silver nor Jim are heroes in the biblical light of heroism. Jim Hawkins arrogance, cowardice, and
selfishness

  • 2. Authority In Lord Of The Flies What would happen if humans were left alone without authority? Would they want to help each other or go off and try to satisfy their own needs? William Golding s Lord of the Flies entertains the idea that all humans are cruel and selfish within. Golding has a group of young boys stranded onto a secluded island. Having to fend for themselves the boys begin to act violent and selfish for their own personal agendas. The longer the young boys stay on the island, the more selfish, cruel thoughts and actions emerge from within them. The novel starts by introducing the group of young, friendly looking kids. The group of kids collect themselves and wonder where authority is. Aren t there any grownups? Jack Merridew, one of the boys, asks around (Golding 21). With no real authority figure, the boys decide to band together, increasing their ability to survive. In the first moments of the book, the boys are introducing themselves. Piggy, being overweight and wearing glasses, is bullied and tormented by the group. A storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child joined in. For the moment the boys were a closed circuit of sympathy with Piggy outside: he went very pink, bowed his head , and cleaned his glasses again (Golding 21). After the boys have established that there is no real authoritarian figure supervising them, the tormenting and bullying for their own amusement begins. If there had been an authoritative figure their supervising them the group of boys would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Futurist Manifesto An Italian avant garde art movement that took speed, technology and modernity as its inspiration, is where new ideas were introduced to society. Futurism portrayed the dynamic character of 20th century life, glorified war and the machine age, and favored the growth of Fascism. Created at the turn of the twentieth century, the Futurist Manifesto stands out as the announcer of the new artistic movement, but its significance is much broader than the field of visual culture. It is conceived by Marinetti as a new force of Italian cultural revival, the one that is tired of stale and unproductive adherence to the past, and is instead urging for the creation of modern Italy. • 4. Relationship Essay (Gilbert Grape) In the film What s Eating Gilbert Grape? directed by Lasse Halstrom, one important relationship is between Gilbert (the main character) and his mother, Bonnie. They are always in constant turmoil, and hardly ever see eye to eye. Towards the end of the film their attitudes change towards each other, we see their relationship strain and then become extremely close. This is important because they don t have a real mother, son relationship so this is worked on during the film. Gilbert is not an honest, reliable son; he looks after Arnie, but does not fulfil his duties as a son. He is constantly making fun or sarcastic comments about his mother. • 5. An Evaluation Of An Auditory Brainstem Response An auditory brainstem response is an electrical potential generated from the changes in neural activity when an acoustic stimulus is presented into the ear. Stimuli in the form of clicks, tonebursts or chirps are transmitted through a transducer and measured using surface electrodes positioned on the scalp. The elicited waveform response consists of 7 waves that occur within a period of 10ms after the presented stimuli. Each waveform peak is labeled from I VII where each wave corresponds to a neural generator within the auditory pathway. Just like other auditory evoked potentials such as the middle latency response, the response depends relatively on the pathological factors, non pathological factors, acquisition parameters, stimulus parameters as well as the noise and interference. Consequently, this has meant that a great deal of research has been conducted into investigating these potential effects on the ABR, especially as it is commonly used in clinical practice such as for evaluating retrocochlear pathology, detecting permanent childhood hearing loss in newborn hearing screens and intraoperative monitoring during surgery. These findings usually influence the test conditions used in protocols and guidance for clinical practice. Whilst previous literature focus their experiments in order to find a significant difference in the ABR waveform, very few studies explore what these parameters and factors have on the quality aspect of the recording. This study will primarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Is It Okay To Torture By Richard Fisher Summary With Robots becoming a popular part of our everyday lives people are beginning to question if people are treating robots with the same respect that they treat people with. Researchers are also beginning to wonder if there need to be laws to protect robots from being tortured or even killed. Scientists have done research to test and see if people react the same to robots as they would to actual people or animals. In Is it Okay to Torture or Murder a Robot Richard Fisher contemplates the reason on why it is wrong to hurt or kill a robot by using a stern and unbiased tone. The author s purpose of this essay is contemplating whether or not laws should be made protecting robots. Throughout the essay he uses evidence from scientists who have dones tests, and it shows how people act. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author never puts his opinions through the article he states what scientist have found out from research. On page 4 Fisher quotes Dr. Rault who said, Robots can, without a doubt, trigger human emotions. This is a great example in the article when he Fisher gives examples of what researchers thinks that makes the point come across without putting his own opinion in the article. Fisher also uses a stern tone that does not show emotion, yet gets the point across. He does not put his own opinions or thoughts that could show humor, instead he consistently keeps with a tone that is very stern, and does not make any jokes about a topic that could easily have humor brought into it. One way that Fisher shows sternness throughout the article is by giving facts, numbers, and data from experiments that have been tested. One page 3 Fisher writes, After an hour of play, the people refused to hurt their Plea with the weapons they had been given. This is a fact that Fisher had obtained from the data of the tests results which is one way that he is able to write his article with being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He had always believed that strict authority and giving people sentences was the right call for every case he had, but now these phrases show less of an impact due to his overturned ideas. However, secularism as it has come to be practiced by the Congress Party and the Indian government (hereafter referred to simply as secularism) comes under scrutiny for four general reasons: the unequal treatment of different religious groups, the implied hostility to religion, the poor translation of secularism from the West to India and the inability of secularism to create a national identity for India. That both sides attempt to appropriate the term secularism can lead to confusion; even the U.S. government had some problems in its effort to catagorize the debate about secularism. In the opinion of the Hindu nationalist, the Congress commitment to secularism does not bring about the tolerance, the Sarva Dharma Sambhava to be expected of Hindu rulers. P.N. For more than 30 years before Reagan took office, the United States and its allies had tried unsuccessfully to rein in communism. Reagan believed that communism in the Soviet Union was eroding and ready to crumble, expecting its collapse if competitively challenged by America. An arms race had been ongoing between the U.S. and Russia for some time. Reagan, however, was determined to put an end to it. Reagan began the competition with a very costly project known as the Strategic Defense Initiative, aimed at neutralizing incoming Soviet missiles. This shocked the Soviet Union, which was economically unable to match this rapid escalation of the arms race (CITE). After winning his second term as president, Ronald Reagan established what is now known as The Reagan Doctrine, which provided support, both financially and militarily, for anti communist fighters throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America (CITE). The policy s goal was to eliminate tyrannical governments and promote individual liberties, freedom, and democracy. The Reagan doctrine became the centerpiece of the Reagan administration by successfully stopping the Soviet Union from spreading its communist control over specific regions of the world. Adolf Hitler, and his Nazi Party that followed him, began persecuting Jews in 1933. Adolf Hitler, the mastermind behind the Holocaust, was an anti semitic man who believed in a superior Arian German race. Hitler s rise to power was just the beginning of a series of events that almost led to the complete annihilation of many countries Jewish population. First, laws that limited the Jew s rights were applied. Next, their valuables were taken from their possession, and then the innocent people were forced into cramped ghettos lined with barbwire. According to Sally Marks, the term holocaust is derived from the Greek language and literally means a sacrifice totally consumed by fire . (1) Living up to its definition, during the Holocaust many Jews were burned in the fiery mouths of the crematoriums. The impact of the segregational laws as well as being forced into ghettos were only the beginning of the inhumane crimes the Jews were subjected to during the Holocaust. Concentration camps were horrible places filled with starvation, dangerous work, and death. After being taken out of the ghettos Jews were most often carted like caged animals to the camps. There, if not immediately sentenced to death during selection, the people were stripped of their identity and thrown into a situation no human deserves to be in. • 13. Farming Is The Nation s Most Important And Noblest... When you think about farming what comes to mind? Do you think about older gentlemen on tractors, or young boys helping there father feed the family herd. Maybe you even think about thousands of acres of corn land in Iowa. Whatever it is I can assure you farming is the nation s most important and noblest profession. Today farming is seen as a dangerous profession, that s not necessarily the case, it is true that many people are injured and even killed on farms each year. In 2012 alone three hundred and seventy four farmers and farm workers lost there lives due to work related injuries, and every day a staggering one hundred and sixty seven agriculture workers suffer a work related injury (CDC 2012). But why so many? The simple answer is that when it comes to farm safety many people are ignorant. I myself am guilty of not using the proper safety equipment or even removing a safety shield to make things run more efficient. I think we have it hardwired in our brains that bad things only happen to other people, and nothing bad could happen to ourselves, that s not the case. I think that if farmers will take the time to slow down and be more careful and think things through we will cut down drastically on injuries. If you think about it many farmers are constantly stressed, they simply don t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all the tasks at hand so they begin to rush which causes shortcuts to be made which can potentially lead to injury or death. • 14. What Does Mrs Potato Head Mean Mrs. Potato Head is a song by the musical artist Melanie Martinez, from her Crybaby album, which I enjoy listening to for its dark themes mixed with innocent and childlike elements. This song is a part of the album s collective story following a girl named Crybaby, and her experiences with many issues such as poor family structure, loneliness, heartbreak, and societal pressures. This song specifically follows Crybaby taking in the societal pressures to be beautiful, and trying to understand the messages of it and if it is worth all the changes she would have to make to herself. The disruption of patterns and volatile tones of her songs achieve a unique perspective for her listeners. I believe it s a way to make people see how chaotic life can be, exposing the fact that we like to believe we have total control over our lives when we don t. We can be easily influenced by others. There is also a pattern of iambic feet in key portions of the song, particularly where Crybaby is asking Mrs. and Mr. Potato Head whether the pain and money are worth their perfect looks, and if their love lasts beyond those looks: tell me and pain is on line 12, afford on line 16, and you ll stay on line 17 all examples of the happy sounding feet surrounded by mostly trochaic (somber) or anapestic (child like) feet (Writer). The first platoon drill instructor would call me from across the field or training area just to tell me he did not like me, which made me late for wherever I was going, to be punished for being tardy. In fact, the notion of childhood and adolescence as distinct phases of human development is a novel idea that did not truly emerge until the twentieth century, so it is only natural that some elements of the juvenile justice system seem to have been made up they went along. Now, however, after substantial research into juvenile delinquency, it causes, and potential solutions, a much clearer picture of the phenomenon is emerging that will allow parents, teachers, legislators, and law enforcement officials to better reduce juvenile delinquency without imposing unnecessarily harsh restrictions of juveniles. By examining the history of the juvenile justice system alongside more recent research into juvenile delinquency, it will be possible to see how the most effective treatments going forward will likely focus on reducing risk before delinquency occurs and rehabilitating juveniles already in the justice system, as opposed to more punitive measures that mark juveniles as a criminal and thus hinder them for the rest of their lives. It is necessary to begin this study with a look at the history of the juvenile justice system, because as mentioned above, the notion of childhood and adolescence as a distinct phase of human development, and thus deserving of special ... • 18. Nomadic Human Hazing Introduction What is hazing? As stated by Alvarez D.M. (2015) hazing can be defined as the practice of initiating new members into a group, often through harassment and humiliation . (p.43) However, if hazing is so bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. A lone wolf attempting to join a new pack must follow a certain form of behaviors, if the new wolf is not deemed worthy it is either driven off or killed. Ancient nomadic humans ... The general form of punishment for hazing is dismissal from the organization (Mowrey, R., 2012.) This is not the same as dismissal from the school, generally a person is dismissed from a fraternity, sorority, team or community they were a part of. This form a punishment, though a strong deterrent, has its drawbacks although common, the dismissal approach fails to address the harm done to the affect communities, such as the team, school, or organization. (Mowrey, R., 2012). Restorative justice is not some mythical state that requires chanting and incense. What would happen is that the offenders and the affected parties would meet after the original punishment. The affected person or persons would state exactly what they were thinking during the hazing and what they need to feel right again (Mowrey, R., 2012). The offender would not be left voiceless, they would be given time to speak about what they were thinking and what they feel is just repayment. This sounds like it might just be a waste of time, but it is actually proven to decrease revenge acts against victims, it also increases the amount of satisfaction victims feel with their cases (Mowrey, R., 2012). Wright Professor Francis Hatstat Business Law 1 8/3/2016 Q. 1.Explore the legal rights and responsibilities of the tenant and the landlord. Tenant landlord law The federal registration as well the state property laws lays out the laws surrounding both the tenant and the landlord. Houses, mobile homes, apartments, are governed property laws. These laws are documented in the Landlord and Tenant Acts 1967 to 1994, Residential Tenancies (Amendment) as well as Residential Tenancies Act 2004. These laws do not cover tenants who have rented a room in the landlord s home. Despite the fact that leases and agreements are agreed upon by the customer and the client, they cannot be take away the rights under the legislation. Both the tenants and landlords have both rights and obligations (Dowden,2014). Rights of a tenant A tenant has a right to enjoy a quiet and exclusive home. A tenant can ask the other tenants to reduce noise, if it is disturbing, and if this is not stopped, he can file a formal complaint. Every tenant is entitled to a minimum accommodation standard. • 21. Verkerk s FMR1 Genetic Disorder INTRODUCTION Verkerk discovered the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene in 1991, in individuals with a chromosomal instability at the 5 untranslated exon 1 on the long arm of the X chromosome (Xq27.3), a location closely related to autoimmunity (Verkerk et al., 1991). The position of this unstable region in a non coding exon is a typical trait shared by other nucleotide repeat disorders, even though the reason of such association remains unknown. At present, more than 30 genetic disorders, often and curiously presenting with neurological impairment, share an altered number of repeated nucleotides, albeit the FMR1 gene mutation is undoubtedly the most studied. A CGG triplet repeat expansion characterizes the FMR1 gene mutation. Although belonging to the genetic conditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is widely acknowledged that the X chromosome instability at Xq27.3 originates by a dynamic mutation with a variable expansion of a trinucleotide (CGG) repeat (Budworth and McMurray, 2013). This gene instability seems to rely in the loss of AGG triplet inserts commonly identified every 9 10 CGG triplets (Dombrowski et al., 2002). These AGG triplet repeats, accountable for alleles stability of the CGG expansion, may deeply influence the risk of full mutation, as in individuals carrying the same number of CGG repeats, such risk shows a 10 fold increase. The AGG inserts may then influence the remodelling phenomena essential for the modulation of the neurosignals, as they limit the further expansion of the CGG repeats (Eichler et al., 1994). Microsatellites and triplet repeats probably contribute, during the adaptive evolution, to the species diversity, thus representing a central mutational event (Kashi and King, ... • 22. Analysis Of Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard Ties that Bind In Russian writer Anton Chekhov s play, The Cherry Orchard, Chekhov tells the story of a family in crisis and instability at the beginning of the 20th century. The family is about to lose their beloved cherry tree orchard estate because they cannot pay the mortgage. The play, written in 1904, only one year before the first Russian Revolution (1905 1907), is a rendering of the social changes and reform that Russia was experiencing. Chekhov died in 1904 just months before the uprising called Bloody Sunday and was himself the grandson of an emancipated serf (Marks, n.d.) In The Cherry Orchard, there are no riots or raised and clenched fists, but it is a subtler reflection of the times, and the death and demise of the Russian aristocracy and the making of a middle class. However, post slavery or serfdom, the chains that bind humans are not always visible. The way Chekhov portrayed the former serfs in his play seems to whitewash reality and allow the audience to conveniently forget the past. Perhaps he did this with purpose. In American film and literature, we took the same tack until the latter part of the 20th century. In Chekhov s play and in America the help comes across as one of the family, free of the emotional pain of the past and are portrayed as happy and willing to serve. The emotional slavery represented in The Cherry Orchard is not limited to the former serfs but also includes the aristocracy and middle class as well. In modern times, Chekhov s ... • 25. Fear In Literature Of H. G. Wells And Ray Bradbury Fear is the driving force behind change. When a human being feels they are in danger, the response is to protect themselves. Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them (Sussex People, 1). Some people will approach the thrill lifestyle willingly, while others will stay away from it at all costs. When interpreting literature, it is important to understand what was the cause of the writing. In most science fiction pieces, the answer is fear. This same truth is evident in the literary works of two authors who shared similar ideas due to catastrophes going on in the world around them. H.G. Wells grew up during an industrial advancement in Europe. This advancement impacted the wars that were going on greatly. Killing was made more efficient and less personal. This affected the morals of the European society. H.G. Wells noticed the issue, and addressed them in his writing. Ray Bradbury also grew up in a time of war. The development of nuclear biological warfare greatly impacted his career. His fear of the end of the world by technology was the supreme basis of all of his works. By applying a historical lense, readers can observe that H.G Wells and Ray Bradbury are afraid of modernising technology due to their fear of bad ethics. According to Richard Clarke, free expression over the internet and its privacy are two sides of the same coin (Privacy and security(n.d.)). The individual can only request for putting down the links, but the decision is on the search engine company if they would accept the individual s request. In my opinion, I believe such law should be diminished. If this continues, a criminal, a doctor, a pharmacist, an engineer or a politician can remove their earlier misdeeds from the search engines. People would not be able to access their background and might take some wrong decisions. Individuals can get away from their earlier malicious deeds just due to this law of Right to be Forgotten that hides such individual s information from the common people. This goes against the right to get access to information or freedom of information for common people. For example, if a doctor has some negative record about a surgery that went wrong leading to a patient s death and he removes such information from the search engine, people cannot take the right decision whether to choose the doctor. Again, people might end up voting a politician who has corruption cases against him. If there is review about a restaurant serving unhealthy food, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It will explore children s services from the 19th to the 21st century and show how they have changed and developed. This essay will look at the welfare state in relation to the Beveridge report, the creation of the NHS and other children s services, political ideologies and policies and legislation. It will conclude with modern day future challenges of children s services including the five social evils. Children s services support and protect vulnerable children, young people, their families and carers. (nhs.co.uk) According to Malcolm Hill (2012), if as societies are to achieve the best for all children and particularly who are in need, it will require providing them with the best possible services. During the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, there was great wealth and also great poverty. Most middle class children worked in factories and mills; factory owners employed children as they didn t complain and were also cheap to pay. During Victorian Britain, there were no laws to protect children from work. Lord Shaftesbury argued in parliament for laws to be changed; inspectors went into factories to find out what they were really like, this resulted in three laws to be passed. These were 1841 Mines Act, 1847 Ten Hour Act and 1874 Factory Act. By 1874 no child under ten would be employed in factories. (www.bbc.co.uk) In 1870, the government passed a law, drafted ... • 34. Biblical Heroism In Treasure Island By Robert Louis Stevenson Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 states, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (NIV). This verse embodies one of the components of a true hero s character. The biblical heroes mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but their lives demonstrate true biblical heroism in their strivings to honor God and serve others. Noah obeyed God s command to build an ark and rescued his family and the animals from the Flood. Moses led the grumbling people of Israel out of Egypt and into the desert after continually pleading with Pharaoh to let them go leave Egypt. Joshua listened to God s instruction and led the Israelites around Jericho s walls until they came tumbling down. Uninvited, Esther came into King Nebuchadnezzar s presence, asking him and Haman to dinner where she would eventually expose Haman s evil plans and save the Jews.
