The World Of The Gospels A Miracle
Miracle stories were accepted by ancient people as possible. The divine interacted with human kind.
This contrasts with the contemporary scepticism about the sacred or the possibility of miracles. In the
light of scientific, data driven, technological preoccupation, miracles seem to be unnecessary. The gap
between humankind and the divine has widened to the point of being irrelevant, unnecessary or non
existent. However, in the world of the gospels a miracle was anything that caused people to wonder
(Latin miraculum to wonder; mirari to wonder at) or be in awe. According to John Meier (A marginal
Jew, Vol 2:512) a miracle is an unusual startling or extraordinary event that is in principle perceivable
by any interested and fair minded observer, and event that finds no reasonable explanation in human
abilities or in other known forces that operate in our world of time and space and an event that is the
result of a special act of God, doing what no human power can do . There are two elements to a
miracle one which causes wonder, one that is extraordinary phenomenon that is inexplicable in terms
of familiar, everyday causation. This is ascribe to a superhuman force. What demarcates the
extraordinary varies from people to people, culture to culture and age to age.
In the NT miracle accounts are not unique in the Greco Roman world. What was distinguishable in
their reference to the divine; they are attributed not to deities in a polytheism but to the one God of the

Convincing My Atheist Friend that Gods Exists
The central problem of this paper that I am going to try to convince my atheist friend is that god
existed. I will argue in favor of a higher being by first presenting and evaluating two argument that
will be used to persuade my atheist friend. First I will explain Pascal s argument. Second I will explain
one of the arguments of Aquinas s that is in favor of the existence of god. Then I am going to explain
what s the central difference between the two arguments is. I will conclude by stating whether I was
successful in converting my atheist friend.
Pascal doesn t understand that the atheist or the believer would be persuaded by his argument. Instead,
he handles the Wager to the curious and unconvinced. I have a choice to either believe in god exist or
believe that doesn t exists. First, if I believe in God, and God exist, then I will gain happiness; but if I
don t believe in God, and God doesn t exist ill pay the consequence. Second, if I don t believe in God
exist and God does exist, then I will gain pain; but if I believe God doesn t and God doesn t exist ill
pay the consequence. So, I have everything to earn, nothing to lose by believing in God, and I have
everything to lose and nothing to earn by not believing in God. Pascal s wager is at first intent for
believing, but not a proof. Yet, the wager assumes many conditions for the wager to fit a rational
theory.
In Pascal s Wager I think had to objection raised is to believe in god openly for the reward is the

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: To prove that the United States should withdraw from the United
Nations
The time has come to recognize the U.N. for the anti American, anti freedom organization that it has
become. The time has come for us to cut off all financial help, withdraw as a member, and ask the
U.N. to find a headquarters location outside the United States that is more in keeping with the
philosophy of the majority of voting members, someplace like Moscow or Peking (Rousos, par. 30).
Those are the words of Barry Goldwater, the late 1964 presidential candidate and Republican Senator
from Arizona, calling for US withdrawal from the United Nations, and these concerns are as valid
today as they were almost four decades ago, if not more so. Since its inception, the United Nation s
purpose and benefits have been

Hannah Carpenter Advertising
Abby Hulsey Mrs. Dauphin Pre AP English 10 03 March 2017 Hannah Carpenter was a victim of
advertising. Resulting from the unrealistic beauty standards promoted by advertisements she saw
every day, she was never proud of her own body. And tragically, at only eighteen years of age, she
committed suicide. Sadly, Hannah was not alone in the pressures she felt about not being perfect like
the models she saw on television. In fact, teenagers and children nationwide are being influenced by
advertising in negative ways. Advertisements are promoting flawlessness in women that does not
exist, unhealthy eating habits, and the idea that happiness must be bought. Teenagers feel self
conscious about their bodies because of advertising. The average ... Show more content on

In fact, a recent study on materialism said, children who watch a lot of commercials attach more value
to money and things, and, ...believe that happiness can be bought (Opree). Children are more
susceptible to being influenced by the advertisements they see. Therefore, advertisements aimed at
adolescents often feature expensive toys and brands that appeal to children and cause them to want to
purchase the items. The children also examine how delighted the people in the advertisements look
with the products, and that makes them believe that they must buy their happiness. Another study
shows that people will, ...establish buying habits they will carry into adulthood (Day, Nancy).
Basically, when children identify advertisements for popular items, they will begin to purchase the
items and become loyal to those brands. These could be expensive brands that will influence their
other purchases, making them think that if one item they purchase is expensive, then their other
purchases must be expensive as well. Wanting their lives to be on the level of the expensive brands
they own, consumers are becoming more and more materialistic. While there are some positive things
about advertising, the negatives are far more destructive. Due to advertising, girls and women are
being objectified, unhealthy eating habits are being promoted, and materialism

Analysis Of The Devil In The White City
In the 1890s, the upcoming Columbian Exposition was all that the people of the United States talked
about. Nicknamed World s Fair, it was supposed to lead America through the 20th century and into the
future. The fair was designed in the hopes of outshining the Paris Exposition and its main attraction
the Eiffel Tower, yet no man was able to tell of the trials and tribulation at the fair and its architects
would face in the years leading up to the exposition and in the aftermath of it. The Devil In The White
City, written by Erik Larson, is a nonfiction text that goes in depth into the murder, magic, and
madness that took place during the time of the World s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Larson
mainly focused on two extremely important people who he believed transformed the World s Fair.
Daniel Hudson Burnham, the leading architect, and director of the fair and the Urban Serial Killer, Dr.
H. H. Holmes, previously known as Herman Webster Mudgett. Throughout the duration of the text,
Larson constantly switches back and forth from the separate, yet intertwined stories of Burnham and
Holmes. Larson explores Burnham s role in the construction of the fair and Holmes path to corruption.
Through the telling of the events that lead up to the fair and after it, Larson makes the argument that
appearances can be deceiving and that the shell of beauty can hide danger and evil. While Holmes was
the obvious devil/serial murderer and Burnham can be credited with building the White

The two stories I read were Cat and Rat Legend of the Chinese Zodiac and How Cat and Mice
Become Enemies . These stories are Chinese legends in these legends the Rats are doing something to
the Cat to make the Cat mad. The theme of these legends is that you should always be fair, not selfish.
In this essay, I will compare and contrast between theses two stories.
In the two stories there were differences in the stories like. The Cat got mad at the Rat by doing a
selfish thing in Cat and Rat Legend of the Chinese Zodiac. The Rat pushed the Cat into the water
trying to get first place then before they got to the finish line the Rat jumped off the water buffalo and

Miss America Protest Research Paper
On September 7th, 1968, hundreds of women gathered on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, carrying signs
and singing songs that all had the main theme of protesting the Miss America Pageant. Later, they
threw items of women s oppression in what they called a freedom trash can. While the women who
were apart of the Miss America Protest worked to defy society s oppression and standards, they also
marked one of the first explorations in the feminist movement. This certain protest helped to pave the
way for many more women to come and impacted many of the basic ideas of fighting society s norms.

Publishing this book was an extremely hard task to do. One reason is because he was trying to publish
an anti stalin novel when western support for the Soviet union was still needed to help be victorious
over Germany. And another reason would simply be because he was not a very well known writer
back then. For these two reasons, Animal Farm was then not published and released until after the war.
Animal Farm was Orwell s first big book becoming a very successful book, which helped him from
being a mediocre essayist to a famous reputable novelist. Even though there were troubles initially, it
made up for it in the end. Within four years, Animal Farm sold 600,000 copies just in the United
States. Animal Farm has also been translated into many different languages to extend its popularity

Themes In The Light Between Ocean
In the poignant novel The Light Between Oceans, author M.L. Stedman successfully communicates
central ideas through the use of literary techniques. Through the careful use of letters, particularly
written by Tom, the growing guilt of his character due to his actions was successfully portrayed by
Steadman. The grief endured by Hannah and Isabel is effectively depicted through the use of imagery.
Tom and Isabel s families. Toms moral dilemmas are portrayed through the symbolism of the
lighthouse and the title of the novel The Light Between Oceans. The readers are offered a profound
insight into the various themes through the deliberate use of literary techniques.
A significant theme throughout The Light Between Ocean was the manifestation of guilt seen within
Tom s character. Tom s first letter to Hannah informs her that the baby is safe, loved and well cared for
revealing the guilt that consumes Tom (pg. 151). Illustrated within the novel is Toms belief that he has
to do something to clear his conscience and redeem his dishonest actions and that Hannah deserves to
know her child is alive (pg. 196, 226). Tom writes a second letter to Hannah due to his unwillingness
to confess, despite his guilt as the image of Isabel bathing their stillborn son silenced him (pg. 193).
This shows readers the great extent to which guilt had consumed him over the years and his longing
for redemption for not confessing to the poor bloody woman (pg. 226). The letter contains three

Ethical Ethics Of Huy Fong Foods
Professional codes of ethics standardize ethical benchmark for every occupation around the globe
regardless of job titles, cultural differences and local law in accordance with Code of Ethics Standards
of Professional Conduct by CFA Institute. Violating these rules may lead to severe penalties,
especially when the wrongdoing relates to human well beings and environmental costs. In Sriracha
case, the moral issue stems from whether Sriracha heads ignored warnings from City of Irwindale
Council regarding the odor problem. Hence, it led to the controversial lawsuit. After hearing various
complaints nearby residents about the strong chili smell from the Sriracha factory, the City of

Irwindale officials dropped the lawsuit against Huy Fong Foods, the company countersued the city

incorrectly sued their company instead of a different cooperation. The concept did not apply
successfully in this case since Huy Fong hurt their reputation and the City of Irwindale Council badly
ruined their images. Nevertheless, it was not hard to notice that Huy Fong Foods gradually gained
immediate supports from its employees and its fans via the controversy. Despite that, in keeping with
individual consequences caused by the smell disturbance from the Sriracha factory, Huy Fong Foods

Mr. Courtemanche Sovereign Nation Legal Issues on Law Enforcement
When you ask an average American what is sovereign nation or sovereign citizens extremist, most
will likely answer you that they have no idea what that is. Law enforcement officers across the country
are experiencing a growing number of contacts with Sovereign Citizens. Many local, states and
federal law enforcement have been having problems with this group so call sovereign nation group.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classifies sovereign citizens as domestic terrorists, which
are scattered across the United States of America. Sovereign citizens are anti government extremists
who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or sovereign
from the United States (FBI, 2011). Ideology
Many sovereign citizens don t pay taxes and, they hold illegal courts that issue warrants for judges and
police officers. They clog up the court system with frivolous lawsuits and liens known as Paper
Terrorism against public officials to harass them, and they use fake money orders, personal checks,
and operate fake businesses. They believe they don t have to answer to any government authority,
including courts, the IRS, motor vehicle departments, or law enforcement and, this causes all kinds of
problems and crimes (FBI, 2011). They also commit murders, threaten judges, law

The Psychology Of School Violence Essay
Today I m going to be talking about school violence and how different psychologist have different
viewpoints in the same situations. I m going to be talking about Behaviorism, Cognitive and lastly
Humanistic and existential psychologist. So a Behaviorism psychologist believes that people learn the
behavior habits over time from things such as videogames, violence and TV. So for instances some of
the kids that did the shooting probably was exposed to some type of violence at an early age.
Cognitive psychologist more on the metal side of the process unlike the Behaviorism psychologist.
Cognitive approach means that the type of environment a person is exposed to also plays a big role on
how they act later in life. Lastly we will talk about the Humanistic Psychologist which I think is my
favorite one and his approach on the situation. Most stable people choose to do whatever it is knowing
the consequences. They believe people have the free will and the understanding to make their choices.
From a Behaviorism psychologist view the kids who did the shooting in Newton Connecticut was
probably exposed to some type of violence. Behaviorism believes that behavior is learned through
previous learning experiences or interactions with the social environment. They also believe that the
mental process is too hard to observe and measure. So let s say the kid showed some type of signs of
having issues with his mother before he killed all of those people. His mother or other family

Throughout our country s history, there have been very few generations that have been alive during a
time in which our country is not at war. One of the most common wars the United States was a part of
was World War II. This war was fought from 1939 until 1945, regarding the acts of certain countries
such as Germany, Italy, and Japan. These countries were violating human rights by placing innocent
individuals, that they considered to be weak, into concentration camps. Humans of today s society

The Sectional Crisis And The Compromise Of 1850
In efforts to better understand the Civil War most historians examine the Sectional Crisis and the
Compromise of 1850 in the decades leading up to the worst years in American History. Some
historians prefer to focus on the underlying theme of the war, others tightly examine individual
leaders, events, and political parties, connecting them all together like puzzle pieces to define the
years prior to the war. Despite the contrasting views, it is clear to realize the constant prevailing issues
of the Antebellum Period, the Sectional Crisis and the Compromise of 1850. In particular, the
Compromise of 1850 is deceivingly taught as only establishing 3 pivotal elements: the status of
slavery in future territories (popular sovereignty), California statehood, and the fugitive slave law.
Granted these elements of the compromise provide a great amount of controversy long after their
birth, but one element of the compromise perceives to fail in obtaining recognition. The Texas New
Mexico boundary resolution seems to find itself fading away from its relevancy to the civil war,
shadowed by more prominent issues regarding the stability of the Union. Abandoning the traditional
teaching of the compromise, the Texas New Mexico border decision figuratively and literally changed
the identity of Texas. This was the long awaited result caused by deep rooted social and political
issues dating back to the Texas Revolution.
The end result of the dispute that led to the compromise held Texas to

reason for the Americans winning the war because it kept them going through there up and downs. To

Arnold was a brilliant leader in the continental army, leading to many victories for the United States.
His uncommon bravery had really showed a great impression on all the soldiers, boosting their morals
even more. Arnold dedicated himself to the Revolutionary cause, sacrificing family life, health, and
financial well being for a conflict that left him physically crippled, sullied by false accusations, and
profoundly alienated from the American cause of liberty. Arnold can be considered one of the best
American Generals during the fight for independence. He was very well known for that and respected.
Though congress would never give him his deserved promotions. Now as we learn about Arnold, we

the country had turned on him for not noticing his great achievements for the fight for independence.
The only honor that was rewarded to Arnold was the Boot monument where he had fought the Battle

The Imagery Of Macbeth By William Shakespeare
The imagery of Macbeth institutes a dark, evil aura that surrounds nearly every aspect of the play.
Images of evil beings, murder, as well as the natural and supernatural help to set this sinister mood
throughout the play. The three witches are a dominant source of evil in Macbeth. They are the first
characters introduced, emphasizing their significance in the play as well as their aura of darkness.
Their first meeting takes place in thunder and lightening, a dark, chaotic, and dangerous environment,
which sets the tone and atmosphere for the rest of the play . They also use a multitude of paradoxical
and contradictory statements, indicating a sense of deception (1.1.2 10). They say that the battle,
referring to the battle between Scotland, led by Banquo and Macbeth, and the armies of Ireland and
Norway, will be ere the set of sun, (1.1.5). The witches mean that this battle will be finished by the
time the sun has set, leaving any following events to occur in darkness. In their second meeting, their
evil and power is accentuated when they describe their actions; killing swine and wrecking the ships
of sailors (1.3. 2 30). This foreshadow s the dark consequences of their meeting with Macbeth.
Furthermore, the witches act as Macbeth s stimulus into a descent into evil. The witches take
advantage of Macbeth s covert desire for power, and influence him to fulfill his own prophecy, to
quench their own desire for a world of chaos. The line, All hail Macbeth that shalt be King

This Paper Will Describe The Sociocultural And Demographic
This paper will describe the sociocultural and demographic trends of grocery retailing. The
sociocultural and demographic trends are a part of the external environmental analysis of a company
or industry. One popular trend in the sociocultural environment of grocery retailing is the trend of
becoming healthier and wanting grocery stores to offer organic and fresh foods rather than processed
foods. The demographic trend will focus on how grocery retailers market to different age groups in the
United States, as well as around the world. Grocery retailers around the world can take into

One trend that seems to come to mind when talking about grocery retailing in a sociocultural sense is
the trend of offering fresh and organic items in supermarkets as well as in local grocery stores. The
everyday consumer is starting to realize that being healthy is not entirely about working out, but it is
also about what kinds of food you put into your body. Therefore, people in today s day and time, will
do whatever it takes to make sure they are their healthiest, and that they look the best. According to
the article, Consumers Want Healthy Foods And They Will Pay More for Them, about 88% of
consumers are willing to pay the higher prices for the fresh and organic foods that grocery stores
supply (Gagliardi, 2015). This could be because the health fad that has presented itself today is much
stronger than those in years past. According to an article that was published by the University of
Kentucky College of Agriculture, many grocers are finding that customers are changing their
preferences about their food, and are now wanting fresh foods and organic foods in their local
supermarkets. This paired with increasing transportation costs are causing grocers to rethink the ideas
and processes of large centralized distribution centers (Ernst Woods, 2012). Demographic Forces A

How does JB Priestley Use the Inspector to Comment on Social Injustice An Inspector calls
Coursework
Introduction
The play an inspector calls is set in the year 1912, the same year that the great ship Titanic sunk. The
author of this play John Boynton Priestley has used this time to show how social classes worked and
how bad it actually was.
The play itself is set in a large house owned by a rich factory owner, Mr. Birling. Mr. Birling has a
wife and two children, Sheila and Eric. The family are having a small party because they are
celebrating the engagement of Sheila, Birlings daughter, to Gerald Croft. Gerald is the son of a great
man who also owns a factory and Mr. Birling sees this as a chance to get into the big ... Show more

If you really think about it though you would see that it made the standards of Britain high and it s
position in the world greater than others.
How does J.B. Priestley use the inspector to comment on social injustice ?
The play An inspector calls has a great story in it. Yet if you take out the story the play comments very
strongly on social injustice in the early nineteen hundreds. There are many points of snobbery in the
play whilst the inspector is there and also when he isn t. For example the following quote is a solid
piece of evidence from the play of the social life.
Birling: ......I have an idea that your mother Lady Croft while she doesn t object to my girl feels you
might have done better for yourself socially.
The above quote most definitely shows the snobbish side of Mr. Birling and how he wants to be a part
of the Crofts and he will then be well known and maybe get onto the honors list.
The inspector is used in this play as really a base and also to bring out the upper class snobbery of the
family. He is shown as a poor, arrogant man and he doesn t care about the classing system. This makes
him very strong and he can then bring out his thoughts without any hesitation to the family. The
inspector is also for some reason a very good detective in a very unusual way. He doesn t really ask
many questions but literally persuades the family to come out with the

Abstract: I have selected the following paper, Streptococcus Pneumoniae Invades Erythrocytes and
Utilizes them to Evade Human Innate Immunity, to present and review for an assignment.
Streptococcus Pneumoniae is the cause of pneumonia and sepsis. Erythrocytes, which are found in
blood, contain nutrients that factor into bacterial growth. Yamaguchi et al studied the interactions
between S. pneumoniae and erythrocytes. The researchers found that the Iron ion present in human
erythrocytes helped the growth of a sepsis pathogen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While all of this information has been gathered, the behavior of S. pneumoniae in blood remains
poorly understood. Erythrocytes, making up 40 50% of blood volume (Yamaguchi et al 2013), are a
key component for cellular respiration. Erythrocytes contain abundant nutrients like iron which is
required for life in nearly all forms. In this study, the researchers provide evidence that iron in red
blood cells partially inhibit pneumococcal growth and that S. pneumoniae has the ability to invade
human erythrocytes, supporting their hypothesis. By using a neutrophile bactericidal assay, the
researchers were also able to show that the survival rate for S. Pneumoniae in cultures with
erythrocytes increased 3x. The results also display that the pathogen s use of erythrocyte components
enables it to evades the immune system of the host.
Materials and Methods: As describes in Yamaguchi et al, the researchers purchased S. pneumoniae
strain D39 from the National Collection of Type Cultures. S. pneumoniae strain R6, which is an
unencapsulated derivative D39, was provided by Dr. Shin ichi Yokota. The primers used are given.
Primers are short sequences of DNA or RNA that is used as a starting point for transcription in DNA
synthesis. The PCR technique is used in biology labs to create a large amount of copies of a piece of
cut DNA, specifically DNA primers in this experiment(McEntee 8) S.pneumoniae and S. aureus were

How To Annoy People
This paper will attempt to explore how to annoy people in many different situations these categories
are as follows: how to annoy people in restaurants, chat rooms, while driving, and in the grocery store.
Also explored are annoying your roommate, your neighbors, public bathroom stall mates, your teacher

When they pull over, wave to them, and continue driving. Never keep any of your trash in the car, toss

the most effective forms of annoyance known to man.

activating peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) delta and increasing glutathione
production. This is based on the experiments in which the neuroprotective effects of NE were partially
blocked by co treatment with an antagonist of PPARs, and replicated by incubation with a selective

migration and phagocytosis by microglia and reduced colocalization between microglia and Aβ
{Heneka, 2010 #29}. This suggests that a loss of NE ergic cells could result in lower microglial cell
function and a decrease in Aβ clearance in patients with AD. Indeed, DSP 4 injections in the Ts65Dn
mouse model of DS has resulted in increased hippocampal inflammation and accelerated degeneration
into AD like pathology {Lockrow, 2011 #54}. NE deficiency induced by DSP 4 injections lead to a
disruption in the neural glial interactions and increased inflammatory signaling {Braun, 2014 #9}. For
instance, adult rats injected with DSP 4 followed by Aβ injection showed increase in inflammatory
markers including iNOS, IL 1B, and IL 6. When Aβ was injected alone into the mice, iNOS was
expressed primarily in the microglia, but injection of both Aβ and DSP 4 resulted in iNOS expression
in neurons {Heneka, 2002 #28}. As expected, increased NE levels can attenuate this effect. Based on
this, it appears that the loss of NE is driving this cascade of events {Heneka, 2002 #28}. It has already

Discuss how Islam is a quest to be faithful to the transcendent, both directly and through social

Islam is a religion based on the belief in one God, His messenger and the four other pillars. These five
pillars are central to Muslims, followers of Islam and mould their beings and are part of their everyday
lives. This essay will look at the abovementioned pillars, what they are and how they form part of the
quest to be faithful to the transcendent. Mention will also be made to how Islam plays out in everyday
life, thus how this quest is and can be done both directly and through social engagement.

The fifth and last pillar of Islam is the Hajj. The Hajj refers to the holy pilgrimage to Makkah, acts
done at and around the Ka bah, the house of God and also other precise and detailed series of rituals as
prescribed. The gathering of all pilgrims on the plains of Arafat, men dressed in nothing but two cloths
and women in plain white thobes (form of Islamic dress), is the highlight and most important part of
the journey for pilgrims. Here one s previous sins are forgiven and lots and lots of supplication are
made to God (Online Source Al Islam.org). The white attire that is prescribed is so that no one Muslim
can be socially distinguished from the other. This is the one place where everyone is equal and no
judgement can be made. The five pillars that are central to Islam make it evident that through these
various ways, Muslims are governing their lives correctly, according to Allah, following the way of
His messenger and as a result, brought closer to Him on a spiritual level. Allah is never objectified and
one cannot then be physically closer to Him.

International Franchising
Abstract
This paper is concerned with evaluating the structure, history, cultural aspects, leading businesses, and
the future of international franchising. Franchising has become an increasingly popular market entry
mode, and the use of franchise systems for expansion into international markets is expected to
continue and perhaps intensify. (Arthur Anderson, 1996) These business franchises appear as hotel
chains, fast food restaurants, and many others. The first section examines the definition of franchising
by giving an overview of franchising from an international perspective. The historical section traces
this form of business ownership from its beginnings in the Middle Ages to the current trend in
international expansion. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the course of time, the regulations governing franchises became a part of European Common
Law. Throughout the centuries the franchising concept has evolved as the economies of the nations of
the world have evolved. During the early 1800s in Germany, certain major ale brewers granted
franchises to certain taverns, giving those taverns the exclusive right to sell their ale. This marked the
beginning of the concept of franchising as we know it today. In 1851, the Singer Sewing Company
became the forerunners of modern franchising agreements through the contracts that it would
associate with its franchising activities. In the 1880s, cities began to grant monopoly franchises to
street car companies and utilities for water, sewerage, gas, and later, electricity. Another stage in the
evolution of franchising came around the turn of the 20th century when oil refinery companies and the
automobile manufacturers began to grant the right to sell their products. Business format franchising,
which is the dominant mode of franchising today, came onto the economic scene after World War II
with the return of the millions of U.S. servicemen and women causing the subsequent baby boom.
Franchising became the ideal business model for the rapid expansion of the hotel/motel and fast food
industries. International franchising started its beginnings in the early 1960 s. However, the explosion
of the 1960s and 70s saw many forms of abuse in the

people; and this movie absolutely nailed it. With a movie about a failing actress and jazz pianist that
fall in love in Las Angeles, the actors have to be both good and convincing. Emma Stone and Ryan

Rome in The Age of Augustus
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, which was used in the Eastern provinces.
Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the
first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at the
Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being honoured, and
that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the first factor that

(Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to them was
to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted their offers,
which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main elements to Octavian
s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul was a position held for 10
years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and Egypt, as well has having the
right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These areas of the empire were in need of the

these regions now extended to the control of a large section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected
annually and had authority over Rome and Italy. There were several provinces belonging to the

Estimates of the direct costs of the law have been fairly straightforward to measure, but the indirect

7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens Analysis
The purpose of Sean Covey s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is to inform teens on making better
choices for a better and healthier lifestyle. In the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, the author
gives seven habits and explains each one and how you can apply them to your life. If all these habits
are applied to your life you will be much happier and in order. With these applied in your life you can
also find yourself doing good things for other people, in trouble a lot less, and making better choices
for yourself and others. These seven habits that you can apply to your life are, be proactive, begin with
the end in mind, put first things first, think win win, seek first to understand, then to be understood,
synergize, and sharpen the saw.
Habit one, be proactive, is about having a can do attitude and not being reactive. Habit one explains
what being proactive is and what being reactive is. Being proactive is about more than taking
initiative. It is recognizing that we are responsible for our own choices, and we have the freedom to
choose based on principles and values rather than on moods or conditions. Proactive people choose
not to be victims, to be reactive, or to blame others. Habit one comes first because it is the key to
unlocking all the other habits. Being proactive is about taking responsibility and not blaming others.
Applying habit one helps us with being less reactive and more proactive in your life.
In addition, habit two, begin with the end in mind, is about planning ahead and setting goals for
yourself. As the author states in the book, Habit 2 is based on imagination the ability to envision in
your mind what you cannot at present see with your eyes. It is based on the principle that all things are
created twice. Beginning with the end in mind means to begin each day or task with a clear vision of
your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make
things happen. It also means developing a clear picture of where you want to go with your life. The
paths you choose now can affect your future forever ,so beginning with the end in mind can help with
making better choices for your future.
Next, is habit three, put first things first.

Persuasive Essay On Hiv Aids
Addressing the HIV/AIDS Menace It is quite disturbing to witness someone undergo much suffering
due to a fatal disease, and it is even more painful to lose a loved one because of some kind illness that
cannot be cured. Over the years, many individuals have been unfortunate to face the devastating
effects of diseases such as diabetes, cancer, among others. However, the emergence of yet another
deadly disease known as AIDS has again complicated matters. AIDS has proved to be one of the most
fatal health condition across the world, and its impact in the society has grown to be a major global
challenge today. The disease is essentially caused by the HIV virus, which can be spread from one
person to another through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, and sharing of cutting and piecing
instruments with an infected person (Shukla, 2014). AIDS has not only claimed the lives of millions of
people, but also has its economic implications to the nations of the world. Although various treatment
procedures have been designed to help address this health threat, such as the use of antiretroviral
therapies, the disease, and its associated effects, can only be dealt with effectively through the
development of HIV/AIDS vaccine. Vaccination has gained great recognition as the most effective
way of controlling and managing several fatal health conditions. Thanks to Edward Jenner s
successful attempt on small pox, vaccines have been designed to help protect the human body against
many diseases that would have otherwise caused massive deaths across the world (Macaulay, 2016).
Think of what would have happened if all of these diseases were not prevented, and had to attack
someone so that they are dealt with such as the case of the AIDS disease. It is very evident that once a
disease has found its way into the human body, it acts as a trigger to several other issues that affect the
various aspects of human life. Metzl and Hansen (2014) mention that diseases are normally in a
complex relationship with every aspect of human life, and preventing them is very necessary. This is
where vaccination comes handy. The development of HIV/AIDS vaccine, therefore, would be a great
step in establishing significant resolutions to the current

  • 2. The World Of The Gospels A Miracle Miracle stories were accepted by ancient people as possible. The divine interacted with human kind. This contrasts with the contemporary scepticism about the sacred or the possibility of miracles. In the light of scientific, data driven, technological preoccupation, miracles seem to be unnecessary. The gap between humankind and the divine has widened to the point of being irrelevant, unnecessary or non existent. However, in the world of the gospels a miracle was anything that caused people to wonder (Latin miraculum to wonder; mirari to wonder at) or be in awe. According to John Meier (A marginal Jew, Vol 2:512) a miracle is an unusual startling or extraordinary event that is in principle perceivable by any interested and fair minded observer, and event that finds no reasonable explanation in human abilities or in other known forces that operate in our world of time and space and an event that is the result of a special act of God, doing what no human power can do . There are two elements to a miracle one which causes wonder, one that is extraordinary phenomenon that is inexplicable in terms of familiar, everyday causation. This is ascribe to a superhuman force. What demarcates the extraordinary varies from people to people, culture to culture and age to age. In the NT miracle accounts are not unique in the Greco Roman world. What was distinguishable in their reference to the divine; they are attributed not to deities in a polytheism but to the one God of the Jewish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Convincing My Atheist Friend that Gods Exists The central problem of this paper that I am going to try to convince my atheist friend is that god existed. I will argue in favor of a higher being by first presenting and evaluating two argument that will be used to persuade my atheist friend. First I will explain Pascal s argument. Second I will explain one of the arguments of Aquinas s that is in favor of the existence of god. Then I am going to explain what s the central difference between the two arguments is. I will conclude by stating whether I was successful in converting my atheist friend. Pascal doesn t understand that the atheist or the believer would be persuaded by his argument. Instead, he handles the Wager to the curious and unconvinced. I have a choice to either believe in god exist or believe that doesn t exists. First, if I believe in God, and God exist, then I will gain happiness; but if I don t believe in God, and God doesn t exist ill pay the consequence. Second, if I don t believe in God exist and God does exist, then I will gain pain; but if I believe God doesn t and God doesn t exist ill pay the consequence. So, I have everything to earn, nothing to lose by believing in God, and I have everything to lose and nothing to earn by not believing in God. Pascal s wager is at first intent for believing, but not a proof. Yet, the wager assumes many conditions for the wager to fit a rational theory. In Pascal s Wager I think had to objection raised is to believe in god openly for the reward is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Hannah Carpenter Advertising Abby Hulsey Mrs. Dauphin Pre AP English 10 03 March 2017 Hannah Carpenter was a victim of advertising. Resulting from the unrealistic beauty standards promoted by advertisements she saw every day, she was never proud of her own body. And tragically, at only eighteen years of age, she committed suicide. Sadly, Hannah was not alone in the pressures she felt about not being perfect like the models she saw on television. In fact, teenagers and children nationwide are being influenced by advertising in negative ways. Advertisements are promoting flawlessness in women that does not exist, unhealthy eating habits, and the idea that happiness must be bought. Children are more susceptible to being influenced by the advertisements they see. Therefore, advertisements aimed at adolescents often feature expensive toys and brands that appeal to children and cause them to want to purchase the items. The children also examine how delighted the people in the advertisements look with the products, and that makes them believe that they must buy their happiness. Another study shows that people will, ...establish buying habits they will carry into adulthood (Day, Nancy). Basically, when children identify advertisements for popular items, they will begin to purchase the items and become loyal to those brands. These could be expensive brands that will influence their other purchases, making them think that if one item they purchase is expensive, then their other purchases must be expensive as well. Wanting their lives to be on the level of the expensive brands they own, consumers are becoming more and more materialistic. While there are some positive things about advertising, the negatives are far more destructive. Due to advertising, girls and women are being objectified, unhealthy eating habits are being promoted, and materialism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Devil In The White City In the 1890s, the upcoming Columbian Exposition was all that the people of the United States talked about. Nicknamed World s Fair, it was supposed to lead America through the 20th century and into the future. The fair was designed in the hopes of outshining the Paris Exposition and its main attraction the Eiffel Tower, yet no man was able to tell of the trials and tribulation at the fair and its architects would face in the years leading up to the exposition and in the aftermath of it. The Devil In The White City, written by Erik Larson, is a nonfiction text that goes in depth into the murder, magic, and madness that took place during the time of the World s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Larson mainly focused on two extremely important people who he believed transformed the World s Fair. Daniel Hudson Burnham, the leading architect, and director of the fair and the Urban Serial Killer, Dr. H. H. Holmes, previously known as Herman Webster Mudgett. Throughout the duration of the text, Larson constantly switches back and forth from the separate, yet intertwined stories of Burnham and Holmes. Larson explores Burnham s role in the construction of the fair and Holmes path to corruption. Through the telling of the events that lead up to the fair and after it, Larson makes the argument that appearances can be deceiving and that the shell of beauty can hide danger and evil. • 11. Themes In The Light Between Ocean In the poignant novel The Light Between Oceans, author M.L. Stedman successfully communicates central ideas through the use of literary techniques. Through the careful use of letters, particularly written by Tom, the growing guilt of his character due to his actions was successfully portrayed by Steadman. The grief endured by Hannah and Isabel is effectively depicted through the use of imagery. Tom and Isabel s families. Toms moral dilemmas are portrayed through the symbolism of the lighthouse and the title of the novel The Light Between Oceans. The readers are offered a profound insight into the various themes through the deliberate use of literary techniques. A significant theme throughout The Light Between Ocean was the manifestation of guilt seen within Tom s character. Tom s first letter to Hannah informs her that the baby is safe, loved and well cared for revealing the guilt that consumes Tom (pg. 151). Illustrated within the novel is Toms belief that he has to do something to clear his conscience and redeem his dishonest actions and that Hannah deserves to know her child is alive (pg. 196, 226). Tom writes a second letter to Hannah due to his unwillingness to confess, despite his guilt as the image of Isabel bathing their stillborn son silenced him (pg. 193). This shows readers the great extent to which guilt had consumed him over the years and his longing for redemption for not confessing to the poor bloody woman (pg. 226). The letter contains three ... So for instances some of the kids that did the shooting probably was exposed to some type of violence at an early age. Cognitive psychologist more on the metal side of the process unlike the Behaviorism psychologist. Cognitive approach means that the type of environment a person is exposed to also plays a big role on how they act later in life. Lastly we will talk about the Humanistic Psychologist which I think is my favorite one and his approach on the situation. Most stable people choose to do whatever it is knowing the consequences. They believe people have the free will and the understanding to make their choices. From a Behaviorism psychologist view the kids who did the shooting in Newton Connecticut was probably exposed to some type of violence. Behaviorism believes that behavior is learned through previous learning experiences or interactions with the social environment. Despite the contrasting views, it is clear to realize the constant prevailing issues of the Antebellum Period, the Sectional Crisis and the Compromise of 1850. They are the first characters introduced, emphasizing their significance in the play as well as their aura of darkness. Their first meeting takes place in thunder and lightening, a dark, chaotic, and dangerous environment, which sets the tone and atmosphere for the rest of the play . They also use a multitude of paradoxical and contradictory statements, indicating a sense of deception (1.1.2 10). They say that the battle, referring to the battle between Scotland, led by Banquo and Macbeth, and the armies of Ireland and Norway, will be ere the set of sun, (1.1.5). The witches mean that this battle will be finished by the time the sun has set, leaving any following events to occur in darkness. Yet if you take out the story the play comments very strongly on social injustice in the early nineteen hundreds. There are many points of snobbery in the play whilst the inspector is there and also when he isn t. For example the following quote is a solid piece of evidence from the play of the social life. It has been suggested that NE can protect neurons from the toxic effects of Aβ by activating peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) delta and increasing glutathione production. This is based on the experiments in which the neuroprotective effects of NE were partially blocked by co treatment with an antagonist of PPARs, and replicated by incubation with a selective PPARdelta agonist {Madrigal, 2007 #57}. In addition, DSP4 mediated destruction of NE ergic cells leads to decreased migration and phagocytosis by microglia and reduced colocalization between microglia and Aβ {Heneka, 2010 #29}. This suggests that a loss of NE ergic cells could result in lower microglial cell function and a decrease in Aβ clearance in patients with AD. Indeed, DSP 4 injections in the Ts65Dn mouse model of DS has resulted in increased hippocampal inflammation and accelerated degeneration into AD like pathology {Lockrow, 2011 #54}. NE deficiency induced by DSP 4 injections lead to a disruption in the neural glial interactions and increased inflammatory signaling {Braun, 2014 #9}. For instance, adult rats injected with DSP 4 followed by Aβ injection showed increase in inflammatory markers including iNOS, IL 1B, and IL 6. When Aβ was injected alone into the mice, iNOS was expressed primarily in the microglia, but injection of both Aβ and DSP 4 resulted in iNOS expression in neurons {Heneka, 2002 #28}. As expected, increased NE levels can attenuate this effect. Based on this, it appears that the loss of NE is driving this cascade of events {Heneka, 2002 #28}. The Hajj refers to the holy pilgrimage to Makkah, acts done at and around the Ka bah, the house of God and also other precise and detailed series of rituals as prescribed. The gathering of all pilgrims on the plains of Arafat, men dressed in nothing but two cloths and women in plain white thobes (form of Islamic dress), is the highlight and most important part of the journey for pilgrims. Here one s previous sins are forgiven and lots and lots of supplication are made to God (Online Source Al Islam.org). The white attire that is prescribed is so that no one Muslim can be socially distinguished from the other. This is the one place where everyone is equal and no judgement can be made. The five pillars that are central to Islam make it evident that through these various ways, Muslims are governing their lives correctly, according to Allah, following the way of His messenger and as a result, brought closer to Him on a spiritual level. Over the course of time, the regulations governing franchises became a part of European Common Law. Throughout the centuries the franchising concept has evolved as the economies of the nations of the world have evolved. During the early 1800s in Germany, certain major ale brewers granted franchises to certain taverns, giving those taverns the exclusive right to sell their ale. This marked the beginning of the concept of franchising as we know it today. In 1851, the Singer Sewing Company became the forerunners of modern franchising agreements through the contracts that it would associate with its franchising activities. In the 1880s, cities began to grant monopoly franchises to street car companies and utilities for water, sewerage, gas, and later, electricity. Another stage in the evolution of franchising came around the turn of the 20th century when oil refinery companies and the automobile manufacturers began to grant the right to sell their products. Business format franchising, which is the dominant mode of franchising today, came onto the economic scene after World War II with the return of the millions of U.S. servicemen and women causing the subsequent baby boom. Franchising became the ideal business model for the rapid expansion of the hotel/motel and fast food industries. International franchising started its beginnings in the early 1960 s. Persuasive Essay On Hiv Aids Addressing the HIV/AIDS Menace It is quite disturbing to witness someone undergo much suffering due to a fatal disease, and it is even more painful to lose a loved one because of some kind illness that cannot be cured. Over the years, many individuals have been unfortunate to face the devastating effects of diseases such as diabetes, cancer, among others. However, the emergence of yet another deadly disease known as AIDS has again complicated matters. AIDS has proved to be one of the most fatal health condition across the world, and its impact in the society has grown to be a major global challenge today. The disease is essentially caused by the HIV virus, which can be spread from one person to another through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, and sharing of cutting and piecing instruments with an infected person (Shukla, 2014). AIDS has not only claimed the lives of millions of people, but also has its economic implications to the nations of the world. Although various treatment procedures have been designed to help address this health threat, such as the use of antiretroviral therapies, the disease, and its associated effects, can only be dealt with effectively through the development of HIV/AIDS vaccine. Vaccination has gained great recognition as the most effective way of controlling and managing several fatal health conditions. Thanks to Edward Jenner s successful attempt on small pox, vaccines have been designed to help protect the human body against many diseases that would have otherwise caused massive deaths across the world (Macaulay, 2016). Think of what would have happened if all of these diseases were not prevented, and had to attack someone so that they are dealt with such as the case of the AIDS disease. It is very evident that once a disease has found its way into the human body, it acts as a trigger to several other issues that affect the various aspects of human life. Metzl and Hansen (2014) mention that diseases are normally in a complex relationship with every aspect of human life, and preventing them is very necessary. This is where vaccination comes handy.
