Directory service:
A directory service is a network service that stores, organises and makes resources available to users
and application. Resources like e mail addresses, computers, and devices like printers. It also makes
sure the computer networks are properly secured.
Account management:
Is used a lot in colleges and schools it provides access to the right user it also manages and develops
user s access to computing resources; every user has to make a username and a password. The admin
users can search the directory and access the central and departmental file servers, apps and printers
across the network. It also makes sure the IT security is in good strength. Account management lowers
the computing costs by reducing the number of servers needed for their department.

There are email servers that accept, forward, deliver, and stores messages, so the users computers
doesn t need to be online 24/7; They just need to be connected to an email server to send and receive
emails e.g. GroupWise email.
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is online instant messaging over the Internet an example of this is MSN
chat. It is designed for groups to communicate in discussion boards like channels, online tutors. Users
can join the conversation and send messages to it, which shows to all the others users talking in the
same chat. Internet Relay chat can be used in organisation when there are meetings or group
conversation, everyone discussing and contributions of their ideas, they can communicate from
anywhere in the world for example they can be at home and the colleagues could be at work, everyone

Free Trade Agreement and Its Affect on Canadian Business...
Free Trade Agreement and Its Affect on Canadian Business
With the coming of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) there have been very serious implications for
Canadian business and for that matter, Canada as a whole. Many aspects of the previous economic
climate have changed such as the reduction or eliminatation of tariffs and the restrictions on subsidies
to name only a few. There has been much heated debate on the pros and cons of this deal: whether
Canada will prosper or become the 51st. American state. This paper will not take this approach to the
issue of whether or not it is a wise agreement, but will look at what business can do to better itself
with the existing FTA.
If Canadian business is to survive and prosper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason for a dire need for an increase in efficiency is the trade relationship we are currently
involved in. While countries in say the EEC are in more or less the same economic power bracket
between Canada and the US, there is a major size difference. So if we are to have any hope of
competing with a power so large clearly we must become more efficient even more so than other
countries.
Another key aspect which business must deal with is that of becoming better suited to dealing with the
North American, and to a lesser extent, other foreign markets rather than only to Canadian or even in
some cases, to provincial markets. Corporations which do so stand far better of to gain from the FTA
than those that do not. It would be wise for the example of
Northern Telcom Ltd. to be followed. Where production and market presence are global and not just
Canadian. Unfortunately many companies are not following this example and are still very much
Canadian in their outlook.
According to a Toronto Management consulting firm Ernst and Young 62% of all Canadian
manufacturers have no significant exports to the US. As Al
Lituka a Professor at York, says: The FTA has gven a strong phsycological impetus to thinking North

Elementary Dual Language Program At Lincoln Elementary School
I observed a 3rd grade dual language program at Lincoln Elementary School in Blue Island, Illinois.
The philosophy of the program is to provide a well rounded educational foundation that supports
children s academic, physical, and emotional growth, success, and commitment to others. They
believe that if they can create a community in the classrooms, have high expectations for all students,
and nurture their native language as well as their second language, the students will be successful.
The program consisted of 2 classrooms. During the school day, 50% of the time the students are
learning in Spanish listening, speaking, reading, and writing. And the other 50% is spent learning in
English. The English class teaches English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. The Spanish
class teaches English/language Arts, Science. The English teacher is not allowed to speak Spanish, not
even to help out students. The Spanish teacher is not allowed to speak English, not even to help out
students. However both teachers used the language they were not allowed to speak to teach cognates.
The third graders were able to understand Spanish and English, respond in Spanish and English, and
write in Spanish and English. This is not like a bilingual classroom where students are transitioning
from Spanish to being proficient in English. They are all on different levels of proficiency, but all
students read, write, listen, and speak in both languages.
There were sixteen students in each

Charles Messier Research Paper
Charles Messier is the one who realize that deep sky objects could distract other comet chasers, and so
he decided to distinguish them as immobile objects in the night sky. He also wrote a book that
contains over one hundred deep sky objects, including nebulae and galaxies and was also successful in
discovering thirteen comets.
Ptolemy Is important for preserving the Greek astronomer Hipparchus star catalogue, which he

Brahe is best known for his work with new stars, which in his day was cutting edge astronomy. In
1572, he observed a bright star that appeared to be a newcomer onto the celestial scene. Although
other supernova events had been observed in the past, Brahe was the first to scientifically observe and
acknowledge one.
Copernicus is extremely significant because he is credited as the first astronomer to put forward a
comprehensive heliocentric version of the solar system. He publishes a book that had an idea that the
Earth revolved around the sun.
Johannes Kepler: he first to fully explain the motion of the planets of our solar system, to fully explain

The Time Of Cholera By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Gabriel Garcia Márquez in Love in the Time of Cholera, depicts a man hopelessly in love with a
woman whose father forbids them from marrying. Fermina Daza finds herself in a loveless marriage
with Dr. Juvenal Urbino de Calle, someone who will provide her with financial security. Zora Neale
Hurston in Their Eyes Were Watching God portrays Janie Mae Crawford in her search for love. Janie
is a young black woman who seems to be to be the talk of the town when she returns from her
hometown of Eatonville, Florida after nearly a two year absence. She marries several times for many
reasons, all except for love. The women in both, Love in The Time of Cholera, and Their Eyes Were

During a long career of liaisons, seductions, and work for the River Company, Florentino persists in
his unquenchable hope for life with Fermina. Juvenal Urbino, an eminent doctor, civic leader, and
staunch Catholic, dedicates his life to eradicating cholera by introducing modern science to putrid
swamp areas (Jennings 1).
Jennings describes the differences between Florentino and Dr. Urbino. Florentino is a loyal romantic
who endlessly seeks the love of Fermina whereas, Juvenal Urbino is set in his ways and dedicates his
life to putting an end to cholera. With this Dr. Urbino has status and wealth. This brings light to
Lorenzo Daza s reasoning for taking Fermina away and promoting a relationship with Dr. Juvenal
Urbino. When Janie is young, she looks for nothing more than love in a relationship. Janie s
grandmother, Nanny, catches her kissing Johnny Taylor across the gatepost. The kiss outrages Nanny
and she then arranges a marriage between Janie and Logan Killicks. Janie expresses her grief and
Nanny responds with, Better leave things de way dey is. Youse young yet. No tellin whut mout happen
befo you die. Wait awhile, baby. Yo mind will change (Hurston 24). Janie wants love more than
anything in a marriage, Nanny claims that it is best to marry for security and love will come later. It is
because of Nanny s influence that led Janie to marry Logan Killicks, Joe Starks, and

A Brief Summary Of The Giver By Lois Lowry
Jonas. An interestingly vague character. As the story starts we get almost no background. Yet as the
story progresses we learn more, and more about his life. Past, Present, and Future. He never knew his
true parents, and was essentially adopted by his current family. He has one sister and two parents. He
is 11, I believe, at the beginning of the story, and is tentatively awaiting the ceremony of the 12 s. The
coming of age ceremony in his society. Being supposedly chosen by an anonymous council, becoming
essentially the keeper, or more accurately the receiver, in his (presumably post apocalyptic)
civilization. To fulfil this calling, he must go through pain, trials, threats, and many people lurking,

When unexpectedly he learns that the government plans to kill his baby brother (because of the babies
failure to thrive) in a storm he steals the baby away from the daycare only a day before the baby was
scheduled to be released. And he sets out on his amazing, and epic journey. Slowly yet surely he
makes his way through forest, desert, and snowy mountains. Yet halfway through his travels he
realizes he is going to run out of food. As a true Samaritan he cuts his food intake down to only the
bare minimum, so that the baby may be able to eat and survive. As time goes by Jonas has stopped
eating at all and is giving everything to his brother. As he unknowingly ascends the final mountain his
body begins to fail. As he arrives at the summit, he looks down and with everything he has left, he
takes one step. A step full of agony, and despair and as he completes his step he fumbles and collapses.
Falling down the mountain he desperately tries to protect his brother... Hours later he wakes at the
bottom of the mountain, with his brother six feet away from him. Full of adrenaline he runs to his

mean, with extreme values to the right. The kurtosis value is 0.750 which is less than 3. It means that
distribution is Platykurtic because the probability for extreme values is less than for a normal
distribution, and the values are wider spread around the mean. The p value for Shapiro Wilk is 0.000

Descriptive Essay On Bohttac Garden
A long, cement paved path led me to a green well painted gate, which separated the tranquility of the
Botanic Gardens, which lay on the east side of the rowdy University of California Riverside Campus.
On a mission to learn more about the Gardens and all it has to offer, I scheduled to meet up with Pam
Ferre, an Administrative Assistant, who knew a significant amount of information about the Gardens.
We agreed to meet up at Schneider House, but as I walked through I lost myself in the beauty that
nature here had to offer causing me to lose track of the asphalt road that should have directed me to
our meet up destination. The UCR Botanic Gardens is composed of 40 acres, of which thriving plant
and animal species call their home. Knowing how enormous the Gardens are, I cell phoned Pam
instead of struggling to find my way through the several footpaths. Finally, we gathered at the turtle
pond where Pam approached me with a smile, dressed in a flowing white blouse, round black
sunglasses, and stylish hiking sandals, an outfit fit for the 100 degree weather. Underneath the canopy
of the Sequoia Sempervirens, trees which towered several feet high, we sat on a stone bench. From
our point we overlooked a pond in which three medium sized turtles rested on a small log which had
fallen from a tree near by. As the birds chirped soothing tunes above us and lizards zigzagged across
the dirt path Pam began to tell me about UCR s Botanic Gardens. Well, my first question is for you

Essay about Gulf Oil case study
The Standard Oil Company of California(Socal) is trying to determine how much to bid on the Gulf
Oil Corporation. George Keller, the CEO of Socal, would need to borrow 14 billion dollars in order to
make a substantial bid. While banks are willing to lend the money because of Socal s low to debt ratio,
the loan would put the company in a highly leveraged position. In order to alleviate that debt, some of
Gulf s assets could be sold. Keller has to consider the value of Gulf s exploration and development
program when calculating future returns. Two billion dollars were being spent on the exploration and
development program. This money could instead be used to reduce the debt if Socal acquired the
company. However, the exploration program ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mesa would need a majority hold of Gulf in order to elect alternative directors of the firm. The
purpose of electing new directors would be to turn the Gulf corporation into a royalty trust. If Mesa
were to put up more money for the company, it would only do so for the purpose of gaining a majority
hold. Because this was not an attainable goal, Mesa sought the 21% ownership because it was enough
attract the further banking needed.
Advised Decision A prospective buyer has to consider the motives and financial positions of other
bidders. Kohlberg wants to buyout the company in order to turn it into a private firm. ARCO has a
pretty strict limit in what it can offer because of its highly leveraged position. Even if a company has
the ability to take out a larger loan to make a greater offer, it has to consider the consequences of
doing so. While a company like Socal has unrestricted credit, its decisions as to how to operate the
company after the buyout are very limited. Creating a lot of debt in order to finance the purchase is a
large risk. If the company does not perform well in the future it could face tremendous loss. In this
case, a bid of $80 per share would be appropriate for an un leveraged company like Socal. This would
be enough to win Gulf while still leaving breathing room for shareholders. Taxes do not need to be
considered, because the benefits cancel out the

A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes Meaning
After poetry is written, published, and circulated, analysis of the poem must take place. It unveils and
discusses the themes, figures of speech, word placement, and flow of the piece, and A Dream
Deferred, is no exception. In Langston Hughes s poem, A Dream Deferred, the theme is that no really
knows to dreams if they are not reached, and very realistic figures of speech help convey this idea; the
poem can be surprisingly related to Mr. Hughes s life through the subtitle and quotes from Langston
himself. The meaning of, A Dream Deferred, is that no one really knows what happens to dreams that
are not fulfilled. The poem starts with the line, What happens to a dream deferred? and this plainly
asks what happens to dreams that have not been paid attention to. The next line in the poem is, Does it
dry up like a raisin in the sun or fester like a sore and then run? meaning does a dream simply wither
away until it is no longer prevalent, or does it sit and stew until it becomes unbearable enough that it is
fulfilled out of convenience. The following stanza is, Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar
over like a syrupy sweet. This means that dreams could possibly be attainable, but people put them on
the figurative back burner making them rot and smell like a constant reminder. A scholarly review
written by Marie Rose Napierkowski proves my point by saying, With the smell of rotten meat,
Hughes suggests that dreams deferred will pester one

Rap Vs Rap Genre
Although millions of people listen to music everyday, many people never take notice of how many
genres exist throughout the world. Two genres that take popular notice in the music industry, that may
be considered as opposite sides of the coin , the genres can easily be compared and contrasted, no
matter which compare or contrast side is favored. The Broadway genre, which is notably alongside
musical theatrics, or simply theatrics in general, is not only for the sophisticated population in it s
essence, but is even favored by adolescents of all ages. Due to the variety of musicals that have been
created throughout the past one hundred years, there is a musical for any type of person, no matter
how much or how little they favor the Broadway genre. The rap genre, however, can seem extremely
different from most genres of music. Nevertheless, if a person finds an area of the rap genre that
comes to their own liking, they may come to the realization that not all of it is the same, which can be
true. Typically, rap, which stands for rhythm and poetry , has a fast paced, recurring beat, with a
vocalist rhythmically speaking patterned lyrics throughout a song. In many popular songs today, rap
can take up an entire song, or simply be put in a single verse in another vocalist s performance.
Although the rap genre and Broadway genre are slightly similar in terms of the music production, they
are, however, significantly different in the way that they are performed, and the reasons why

Lavender Scare Analysis
The Lavender Scare was the name given to the systematic dismissal of a thousand homosexual
government workers implemented by the US State Committee. The source that describes the reason
for their dismissal was a report on December 15, 1950 by the US State committee. Its assertion against
homosexuals hinges on the opinions of contemporary authorities such as doctors, psychologist, law
enforcement and various other specialists of human behavior. The consensus created from these
experts describes homosexuality as psychologically created, an emotional stunted individual, and was
curable but requires the effort of the homosexual individual. These views present the fear of anything

Essay On Joint Force In 2025
The United States will only be able to rebalance the Joint Force in 2025 if adequate resources are
available. Even with adequate funding, combatant commanders will experience considerable
challenges operating in the global security environment. The current strategic direction has prompted a
shift of military resources to the Asia Pacific. This trend will continue. Additionally, globalization,
cyber attacks and advances in technology will further challenge the Joint Forces in the next ten years .
The U.S. Joint Forces must identify and develop critical technology now in order to overcome future
challenges risk in 2025. Diminishing resources and lack of predictability within the military budget
process will introduce significant strategic, military and political risk . While no major organizational
changes or force reductions are recommended for the Joint Force, finding the right balance between
Active duty and Reserve end strength and missions will be necessary . Each of the Services will need
to continue to man, equip and train forces to effectively integrate operations across the Joint Force.
Anticipating, developing and fielding capabilities will be key for the Joint Forces to shape or respond
to the challenges associated with the global security environment in 2025. Military advantages within
the U.S. and allies will continue to diminish if not adequately funded, especially as globalization and
the growth of immerging state and non state proxies become more capable to

Performance anxiety is a difficult thing to handle for many pupils and an important discussion that

There are also inventions to meet the objectives to maximize the scratch pad efficiency and to
minimize the frequency and influence of pop ups; they will be summarized below.
For the first invention, one must focus on the preparation, requiring little conscious attention, and
taking up little space on the scratch pad . In the writers perspective, the purpose of preparation is to
create shortcuts that will make resulting patterns of complex motor actions (like for example, the
fingering sequence) more or less automatic. While in the process, an approach can be marking one s
music at critical points, such as where accidentals appear and the location of key or tempo changes;
another would be using different colored sticky notes as cues for some aspects of playing. The mentor
must also be willing to help the student perhaps through bringing one to the performance venue,
letting each rehearse in the performance order, and requiring one to assume a ready position every
time he/she steps on the podium.
As for the second and third invention, one must increase his/her focal attention. To pay attention to
your music, not too much attention to pop ups, is the attentional process to be cultivated; trying to
suppress or fight negative thoughts may be counterproductive; one must be selective about when and
what to recognize and respond. One can pay attention to his/her own breathing by

J. M. Barrie s Peter Pan
Peter Pan, a play written by J.M. Barrie, follows a poor family of five: the workaholic Mr. Darling, the
loving Mrs. Darling, and their children Wendy, John, and Michael. One night, the children are lured to
Neverland by Peter Pan, the boy who refuses to grow up. In Neverland, the children are met with
dangerous adventures and are constantly pursued by Pan s nemesis Captain Hook. But over time, the
children begin to miss their family and decide to return home. In Peter Pan, Barrie uses the similarities
between Peter Pan and Mr. Darling, as well as Peter Pan and Captain Hook, to highlight that Peter Pan
is not a real entity, but a construction of eternal youth created by the adult desire to preserve childhood
forever.

Darling, that the desire to be a child forever is not only Peter Pan s wish, but the wish of adults as
well. Jacqueline Rose went so far as to say Peter Pan offers us the child for ever. It gives us the child,
but it does not speak to the child (58). When Rose says us she is referring to adults. It is the adult that
wants Peter Pan to stay young forever, not the child. Although Peter explicitly states, I want always to
be a little boy and to have fun there follows a parenthetical, so perhaps he thinks, but it is only his
greatest pretend (1354). The parenthetical suggests that perhaps this eternity in childhood is not
actually Peter s desire, but a lie he has invented to stay young forever. The question then becomes
why. The answer is revealed in Hook s heartbreak at Pan s loss of his memories (1351). Hook
embodies the fear of adults, the fear of the ticking clock. However, Hook is unable to escape the
crocodile of time, so he attempts to live forever through Peter Pan s memory, but he is ultimately
unsuccessful. Peter s inability to remember Hook symbolizes the moving of time, a childhood Hook
can never go back to and an immortality he can never attain. By overlapping the characters of Hook
and Mr. Darling onto Peter Pan, Barrie both erases the child while simultaneously creating an artificial
eternal childhood constructed by and for

This requires an introduction of the comparative advantage concept, an economic theory first
developed in the 19th century by English economist David Ricardo. 3. Comparative advantage
The theory attributes the cause and benefits of international trade to the differences among countries in
the relative opportunity costs of producing the same commodities. In his theory, Ricardo does not see
the fact that one country could produce everything more efficiently than another as an argument
against free international trade.
In the end no one will remain without something to do. Evolving countries like China that have low
wages and therefore lower costs and prices for their products will still leave space for other countries
to produce what they have a certain cost advantage in. This will be decided according to the
distribution of resources for production around the globe. Some countries may have a natural
advantage, by having access to certain natural resources other countries don t have, or an acquired
advantage based on the technology and skills more developed in some countries than others. This way,
all countries will sell and buy products at lower costs than if they were to produce themselves. 4.
Trends
Trade has become increasingly free in the last 200 years, going through different fazes from trade with
colonies to outsourced production nowadays. The volume of trade in this period has risen
exponentially.

The Murderer-Personal Narrative
It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing wind
brought a granite sky and a mizzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after two o
clock in the afternoon the pallor of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills, cloaking
them in mist. It would be dark by four. The air was clammy cold, and for all the tightly closed
windows it penetrated the interior of the coach. The leather seats felt damp to the hands, and there
must have been a small crack in the roof, because now and again little drips of rain fell softly through,
smudging the leather and leaving a dark blue stain like a splodge of ink. The wind came in gusts, at
times shaking the coach as it travelled round the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether the driver heard him or not was uncertain: it seemed more likely that the stream of
reproaches was carried away in the wind, for the old fellow, after waiting a moment, put up the
window again, having thoroughly chilled the interior of the coach, and, settling himself once more in
his corner, wrapped his blanket about his knees and muttered in his beard. His nearest neighbour, a
jovial, red faced woman in a blue cloak, sighed heavily, in sympathy, and, with a wink to anyone who
might be looking and a jerk of her head towards the old man, she remarked for at least the twentieth
time that it was the dirtiest night she ever remembered, and she had known some; that it was proper
old weather and no mistaking it for summer this time; and, burrowing into the depths of a large basket,
she brought out a great hunk of cake and plunged into it with strong white teeth. Mary Yellan sat in the
opposite corner, where the trickle of rain oozed through the crack in the

Evaluation Of The Internship Project Essay
Analysis of the Internship Project This evidence based project focused on the creation of a rubric for
simulation experiences in the baccalaureate program at WKU. To become familiar with the different
uses of simulation and its evaluation within the nursing realm, completion of a comprehensive review
of the literature occurred. Hence, the search included the use of Google Scholar, PubMed, and
EBSCOhost databases to aid with the search of pertinent literature. Identifying keywords selected for
the search were nursing simulation, nursing simulation evaluation, and nursing simulation rubrics.
Published articles chosen for review fell between the years of 2010 and 2015. Afterwards, a review of
the curriculum learning objectives as outlined in the syllabus for the Senior Practicum course
established specific course needs for the rubric. Specifically, this outlined list of objectives requires
the student to recall knowledge, comprehension, and understanding of human homeostasis and disease
processes within the nursing construct. During the simulation, the student applies the recalled material
to care for the patient from the most basic level to the highest level of need. Following the review of
curriculum objectives, the writer conducted an analysis of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses
(QSEN) standards. Charged responsibilities of the professional nurse include providing care that is
patient centered and evidence based, collaborating effectively with other

The Special Relationship Between The Uk And The United States
It was only because of the special relationship with the USA that Britain could exert an influence on
international affairs in the years 1951 to 2007. Assess the validity of this view.
The Special Relationship between the UK and the US relates to the unusually close relationship
between these two world powers that has developed over the 20th and 21st centuries. They have an
incredibly tight co operation on such a wide variety of things, ranging from trade and economics to
military power, nuclear weapons and intelligence; one that is almost unprecedented in history for two
separate nations. After the Second World War, when the relationship was crystallised by the term it
became one as much of personal friendships as of political power; and given the closeness developed
between the two nations as a result of wartime, it became a keystone of post war politics in both
countries, having significant impact in both of their subsequent histories, and also those of other
nations. Some of these relationships have been iconic in their pairings: Margaret Thatcher and Ronald
Reagan; Tony Blair and George Bush; Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt (who were in fact related);
whilst others have been less fruitful Anthony Eden, a man previously considered to be the authority of
his time on foreign policy, having been Foreign Secretary for 30 years, had to resign as Prime Minister
following the Suez Crisis and its resultant deterioration of the trust and relationship he had with

World War 2 Paper
Castro, Nazzi 1CA5 I. Introduction
For a start, there s disagreement on when the war started and two common dates for when it finished.
In terms of Europe, Russia generally holds that the Great Patriotic War began on June 22nd 1941 with
Operation Barbarossa (the German invasion of Russia) while Western Europe uses September 1st
1939, the German invasion of Poland. Both use the date of Germany s unconditional surrender as the
end in Europe, but the Western Allies accepted the surrender on May 8th and the Russian May 9th
1945.
The immediate trigger for war was the Nazi invasion of Poland, a conquest too far for the allied
nations who had seen Austrian and Czech lands subsumed into the Reich already. The ... Show more

Adolf Hitler Chancellor and self proclaimed Führer, or leader, of Germany from 1933 until his suicide
in 1945. After a rapid political ascent as the leader of the far right Nazi Party in the 1920s, Hitler
achieved absolute power and maintained it throughout his time as chancellor. During his rule, he took
a very active role in the government of Germany, making military decisions and implementing edicts
regarding the treatment of Jews and other minorities, such as the notorious final solution that
condemned Jews to death at concentration camps in German controlled parts of Europe. Just before
Germany surrendered in 1945, Hitler committed suicide together with his wife, Eva Braun, in his
bunker in Berlin.
Benito Mussolini Fascist prime minister who came to power in 1922 and ruled Italy as an absolute
dictator. In many ways, Mussolini served as an inspiration to Adolf Hitler, with whom he chose to ally
himself during World War II. In 1943, Mussolini was overthrown in a coup orchestrated by some of
his subordinates, and in 1945 he was executed by Italian partisans just prior to the end of the war in
Europe.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt The 32nd U.S. president, who led the country through the bulk of World
War II until his death from a cerebral hemorrhage in April 1945, just a few months before the war
ended. Together with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin, Roosevelt played a decisive role in holding

Summary Of Kafka s In The Penal Colony
Kafka s In the Penal Colony chronicles a colony s justice system, from the point of view of an
outsider. Through the narrative, the reader is able to witness several oddities in the way that justice is
carried out. In the Penal Colony compares to Duff and Garland s Introduction: Thinking about
Punishment, the versus surrounding the trial of Jesus, and the story of the deluge in the normative
issues of crime, punishment , and justice that it brings to light. In Kafka s In the Penal Colony, the
officer is presented as a character who has a deep devotion to the apparatus, and its ability to exact
justice. The officer is fixated on punishment, never questioning whether or not punishment must
follow a crime. The officer s character encompasses the thinking that crime and punishment
undoubtedly go together. Duff and Garland s introduction to Thinking about Punishment raise this
issue, that our common patterns of thought lead us to link crime with punishment in an apparently
obvious and natural way;...there is reason to doubt that the two concepts need always be combined in
this manner. Duff and Garland challenge the normative thinking of crime and punishment. In contrast,
the officer barrels through with his fixation on the right type of punishment, the contemplation of the
institution of punishment absent from his mind. Furthermore, In the Penal Colony presents issues as to
the nature of a crime . In In the Penal Colony, the condemned man, once a soldier, is

The Effect of Ionic Strength on the Solubility of an...
Title of Experiment 12:
The Effect of Ionic Strength on the solubility of an Electrolyte
Aim:
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the thermodynamics variable of enthalpy, ∆H for the
dissolution reaction of boric acid in water. The solubility of boric acid was measured over a range of
various temperatures by finding out at what temperature crystallization began for solution of different
molarities. A graphical relationship between the natural logarithm of molal concentration and the
inverse of the temperature gave a linear plot to determine the enthalpy changes associated with the
reaction.
Methodology:
The procedure was carried out as follows in the CHEM2210 Laboratory Manual from page 58 to 59.

What is the solubility of boric acid in water at 20°C?
From the graph, when temperature = 20°C,
Solubility = x
When y = 20
20 = 15.0975x ± 15.32 + 15.3231 ± 2.08 x = 0.31 ± 0.583 mol/kg
3. What is the solubility of boric acid in water at 100°C?
From the graph, when temperature = 100°C,
Solubility = x
When y = 100
100 = 15.0975x ± 15.32 + 15.3231 ± 2.08 x = 5.61± 1.66 mol/kg
4. What is the total heat evolved when a saturated solution of boric acid in water is cooled from 100°C
to 20°C? Note: The specific heat capacity of the saturated solution is approximately that of water in
that temperature range
(4.20 ± 0.02 Jg 1K 1) and the specific heat of the solid is approximately 0.
20°C = 273.15 + 20 = 293.15K
100°C = 273.15 + 100 = 373.15K
ΔT = 373.15 293.15 = 80K
Molar enthalpy of solution: ln s = ∆HR + c
Gradient of line = ∆HR
∆HR= 3662.74406.323
∆H = (3662.74406.323) x 8.314 = 304520.02±33781.67 J/mol = 304.52 ± 33.78 kJ/mol
Total heat evolved when a saturated solution of boric acid in water is cooled from 100°C to 20°C.
Assuming 50g of water is used, ∆H(H2O) = m.c.ΔT = 50 × (4.20 ± 0.02) × 80 = 16800 ± 80 J

The Structural Adjustment Program Project
The structural adjustment program project is one project of the World Bank that created substantial
problems for the assisted nation, which in this case is Burundi. The structural adjustment program is a
sort of lending program by the World Bank for countries whose economies are experiencing crisis.
However, this lending program requires certain reforms and policies to be implemented by the
receiving country in exchange for loans. In other words, the loans are strictly conditional, and these
conditionality attachments are the root cause through which the project creates problems for the
assisted nation. According to the CIA, Burundi is one of the world s poorest countries having poor
resources with a high rate of poverty, an undeveloped manufacturing sector and foreign aid represents
42% of Burundi s national income. Retrieved from https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the world
factbook/geos/by.html. Due to expanding budget deficits, debt servicing accumulated in the 1970s, a
coffee boom period, and war, Burundi adopted the structural adjustment program project around the
late 1980s to the 90s. The structural adjustment program emphasized the need to pursue the policy
program with special attention to macroeconomic and public sector management. It recommends
further policy actions to reinforce the restructuring of the Burundian economy: a) active export
promotion policies; b) liberalization of the labor and financial markets; and c) promotion of private
investment,

The Afterlife In The Egyptian Book Of The Dead
The Egyptian Book of the Dead refers to a collection of ancient papyri and scrolls used for funerary,
ritual purposes in the ancient Egyptian world. Its purpose and accessibility has evolved across the
centuries, from its first known use in the Old Kingdom c.1240 BCE until the final days of its
production in the second century CE. The Book of the Dead is not actually a completed book , but
rather it is a collation of the various instructions gathered from the tombs of Pharaohs, priests, high
ranking officials and the social elite. Although the most important spells were originally reserved for
the upper class, eventually The Book of the Dead became popularised among society and by the New
Kingdom was generally common among funerary ceremonies. There are around 192 magic spells
contained in the Book, many containing subsections and all of them varying in length and detail. Each
spell pertains to a specific step in the passage through the Duat (the Underworld) into the afterlife. The

This is because the texts were originally only created for a specific individual, such as a Pharaoh, and
this therefore led to many variations between the spells. It is only in the 26th dynasty, known as the
Saite period, where a process of standardisation began to take place, and there is a certain organisation
of the Book of the Dead into chapters. Generally, the Book is divided into four sections: Chapters 1 16
explain the descent into the underworld; chapters 17 63 detail the origin of the gods and the
reanimation of the mummified body; chapters 64 129 describe the deceased s journey across the sky
with the morning sun as a blessed dead , and the judgment of Osiris; and chapters 130 189 describe

The rapid changes taking place in emerging markets, combined with the fact that existing fixed line
networks are often underdeveloped, offer persuasive reasons to believe that systems will be developed
that can facilitate wealth creation and genuinely transform people s lives in the poorest parts of the
region. Ultimately, the evolution of mobile payments systems has the potential to allow global
organisations to access a far wider market, including people in previously hard to access locations.
The caveat is, of course, that issues of trust, security and affordability also need to be overcome. This
report explores the recent developments in the context of these significant challenges. Mobile
payments are necessitating new forms of interaction between telecoms companies, financial
institutions, software and content providers. As in any supply chain, it is important to understand the
processes and security capabilities of other parties in the relationship. It is even more important when
potentially sensitive or personal information is flowing between these parties. Ultimately, the adoption
of mobile payments will therefore depend on, and be driven by, consumer confidence. In this respect,
all of the participants within each respective business model needs to share some responsibility for its
successful adoption. seung Hwan (sean) choi Regional Head Information, Communications

Robert Bly s Influence On American Literature
Poet and storyteller Robert Bly, considerable influence on American literature, in this excerpt from
The Sibling Society (1996), Bly argues and states about change of our society and starts the interesting
introduction in a strange way with hidden meanings to lead to his point of what it really means to be
an adult in the modern society. This passage is not completely a book as whole and was put together
partially for college student to read the main focus point of the author. Bly makes points back and
forth in his essay of in the between paternalistic society and the sibling society that he observed and
argues the differences. He blames the first generation because of their disrespect of authority to let
down in traditional values that failed to provide a moral compass for the young. The strong point of
this book is his description of a disturbing development in modern society that denies to become a
fully adult. Admiration for elders has disappeared and forgotten, tradition has worn out, and families
are being ignored.
Writer Bly, talks about during his generation, paternal society, being uniformity and how they had an
elaborate and internally consistent form (250) during paternal society, kids learned how to talk to the
adults, to be respectful and responsible at school yet, they still asked for their authority when to make
decisions. He says hundred years ago men and women in photograph express in a way We re adults.
There s nothing we can do about it. (250)

Outsourcing and Hotels
Introduction
What is Outsourcing?
Outsourcing can be defined as a business relationship in which two or more companies work together
to achieve a collective advantage. Rugman et al (2003)
If you look back ten fifteen years ago outsourcing in hotels was not a popular concept but more
recently with the downturn in the economy in the nineteen nineties more and more hotels are turning
to outsourcing to help increase their revenues and maximize their profit potential. The use of
outsourcing enables firms to maximize their resources and to reinforce their competitive advantage.
One of the most popular areas for outsourcing in hotels would have to be the Food and Beverage
sector. The decision to outsource by many hotels has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

7. Equity stakes is the strengthening of the outsourcing agreements by either the client or the provider
of the equity stake in the other.
What can be outsourced?
Within a hotel almost every department can be outsourced but not only in hotels in any industry
almost any function can be outsourced. Outsourcing can be undertaken in some of the following ways
of a business process.
Traditional Services
Current and new services

Projects

Every hotel and property will have many different valid reasons on whether to outsource or not to

Specialist services where specialised personnel or skills are required
Functions that would have fast changing IT requirements
Operations where recruitment of employees and training of employees is of a high cost to the hotel
Operations that are labour intensive
The operations which are the commonplace

Stamped Concrete Essay
If you are looking at redoing your driveway or patio, you are probably considering patio pavers versus
poured concrete. You may be thinking of going with stamped concrete with the idea that it is the best
of both worlds in terms of having low upfront costs and more attractive designs than just plain
concrete.
But, not so fast. Let s first compare the two options.
The Big Picture
For most people, their home represents half or more of their retirement savings. It is also a haven from
the rest of the world. This puts a double burden on all home improvement decisions. They need to take
good care of the occupants of the home and also make sense financially.

As temperatures change and as water levels change regularly over time due to precipitation, the land
moves a surprising amount.
Pavers can accommodate that movement. Concrete cannot.
In the face of these normal variations, concrete will develop cracks. It isn t a question of if. It is a
question of when.
Some designs can help hide hairline cracks. Such small cracks are largely a matter of aesthetics, so
hiding them is a good strategy. However, over time, they tend to get worse. As the cracks get larger
and deeper, they are no longer a matter of aesthetics. They become a safety hazard and need to be
repaired.
When concrete is repaired, it is nearly impossible to match the original finish and design. The patch
tends to show. It also involves heavy equipment and is generally not a DIY job.
In contrast, replacing a damaged paver is easily handled as a DIY job. It can be done inexpensively
and take only minutes to resolve. If you buy a few extra pavers when the job is first done, fixing any
damaged pavers is a very minor nuisance that can be rapidly wrapped up on your day off as one of
your jobs in the Honey Do jar.
Safety
Safety should be one of your highest concerns when considering driveway or patio designs. This is
especially true if you have small kids, an elderly parent or are just not as young as you used to be.
Concrete tends to be slippery when

  • 3. Free Trade Agreement and Its Affect on Canadian Business... Free Trade Agreement and Its Affect on Canadian Business With the coming of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) there have been very serious implications for Canadian business and for that matter, Canada as a whole. Many aspects of the previous economic climate have changed such as the reduction or eliminatation of tariffs and the restrictions on subsidies to name only a few. There has been much heated debate on the pros and cons of this deal: whether Canada will prosper or become the 51st. American state. This paper will not take this approach to the issue of whether or not it is a wise agreement, but will look at what business can do to better itself with the existing FTA. If Canadian business is to survive and prosper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason for a dire need for an increase in efficiency is the trade relationship we are currently involved in. While countries in say the EEC are in more or less the same economic power bracket between Canada and the US, there is a major size difference. So if we are to have any hope of competing with a power so large clearly we must become more efficient even more so than other countries. Another key aspect which business must deal with is that of becoming better suited to dealing with the North American, and to a lesser extent, other foreign markets rather than only to Canadian or even in some cases, to provincial markets. Corporations which do so stand far better of to gain from the FTA than those that do not. It would be wise for the example of Northern Telcom Ltd. to be followed. Where production and market presence are global and not just Canadian. Unfortunately many companies are not following this example and are still very much Canadian in their outlook. According to a Toronto Management consulting firm Ernst and Young 62% of all Canadian manufacturers have no significant exports to the US. As Al Lituka a Professor at York, says: The FTA has gven a strong phsycological impetus to thinking North American . 1 One trend of becoming better oriented for new ... The philosophy of the program is to provide a well rounded educational foundation that supports children s academic, physical, and emotional growth, success, and commitment to others. They believe that if they can create a community in the classrooms, have high expectations for all students, and nurture their native language as well as their second language, the students will be successful. The program consisted of 2 classrooms. During the school day, 50% of the time the students are learning in Spanish listening, speaking, reading, and writing. And the other 50% is spent learning in English. The English class teaches English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. The Spanish class teaches English/language Arts, Science. On a mission to learn more about the Gardens and all it has to offer, I scheduled to meet up with Pam Ferre, an Administrative Assistant, who knew a significant amount of information about the Gardens. We agreed to meet up at Schneider House, but as I walked through I lost myself in the beauty that nature here had to offer causing me to lose track of the asphalt road that should have directed me to our meet up destination. The UCR Botanic Gardens is composed of 40 acres, of which thriving plant and animal species call their home. Knowing how enormous the Gardens are, I cell phoned Pam instead of struggling to find my way through the several footpaths. Finally, we gathered at the turtle pond where Pam approached me with a smile, dressed in a flowing white blouse, round black sunglasses, and stylish hiking sandals, an outfit fit for the 100 degree weather. Underneath the canopy of the Sequoia Sempervirens, trees which towered several feet high, we sat on a stone bench. From our point we overlooked a pond in which three medium sized turtles rested on a small log which had fallen from a tree near by. As the birds chirped soothing tunes above us and lizards zigzagged across the dirt path Pam began to tell me about UCR s Botanic Gardens. Well, my first question is for you Pam. ... • 11. Essay about Gulf Oil case study The Standard Oil Company of California(Socal) is trying to determine how much to bid on the Gulf Oil Corporation. George Keller, the CEO of Socal, would need to borrow 14 billion dollars in order to make a substantial bid. While banks are willing to lend the money because of Socal s low to debt ratio, the loan would put the company in a highly leveraged position. In order to alleviate that debt, some of Gulf s assets could be sold. Keller has to consider the value of Gulf s exploration and development program when calculating future returns. Two billion dollars were being spent on the exploration and development program. This money could instead be used to reduce the debt if Socal acquired the company. However, the exploration program ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mesa would need a majority hold of Gulf in order to elect alternative directors of the firm. The purpose of electing new directors would be to turn the Gulf corporation into a royalty trust. If Mesa were to put up more money for the company, it would only do so for the purpose of gaining a majority hold. Because this was not an attainable goal, Mesa sought the 21% ownership because it was enough attract the further banking needed. Advised Decision A prospective buyer has to consider the motives and financial positions of other bidders. Kohlberg wants to buyout the company in order to turn it into a private firm. ARCO has a pretty strict limit in what it can offer because of its highly leveraged position. Even if a company has the ability to take out a larger loan to make a greater offer, it has to consider the consequences of doing so. While a company like Socal has unrestricted credit, its decisions as to how to operate the company after the buyout are very limited. Creating a lot of debt in order to finance the purchase is a large risk. If the company does not perform well in the future it could face tremendous loss. In this case, a bid of $80 per share would be appropriate for an un leveraged company like Socal. This would be enough to win Gulf while still leaving breathing room for shareholders. Taxes do not need to be considered, because the benefits cancel out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes Meaning After poetry is written, published, and circulated, analysis of the poem must take place. It unveils and discusses the themes, figures of speech, word placement, and flow of the piece, and A Dream Deferred, is no exception. In Langston Hughes s poem, A Dream Deferred, the theme is that no really knows to dreams if they are not reached, and very realistic figures of speech help convey this idea; the poem can be surprisingly related to Mr. Hughes s life through the subtitle and quotes from Langston himself. The meaning of, A Dream Deferred, is that no one really knows what happens to dreams that are not fulfilled. The poem starts with the line, What happens to a dream deferred? and this plainly asks what happens to dreams that have not been paid attention to. The next line in the poem is, Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun or fester like a sore and then run? meaning does a dream simply wither away until it is no longer prevalent, or does it sit and stew until it becomes unbearable enough that it is fulfilled out of convenience. The following stanza is, Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over like a syrupy sweet. This means that dreams could possibly be attainable, but people put them on the figurative back burner making them rot and smell like a constant reminder. A scholarly review written by Marie Rose Napierkowski proves my point by saying, With the smell of rotten meat, Hughes suggests that dreams deferred will pester one ... Two genres that take popular notice in the music industry, that may be considered as opposite sides of the coin , the genres can easily be compared and contrasted, no matter which compare or contrast side is favored. The Broadway genre, which is notably alongside musical theatrics, or simply theatrics in general, is not only for the sophisticated population in it s essence, but is even favored by adolescents of all ages. Due to the variety of musicals that have been created throughout the past one hundred years, there is a musical for any type of person, no matter how much or how little they favor the Broadway genre. The rap genre, however, can seem extremely different from most genres of music. Nevertheless, if a person finds an area of the rap genre that comes to their own liking, they may come to the realization that not all of it is the same, which can be true. Typically, rap, which stands for rhythm and poetry , has a fast paced, recurring beat, with a vocalist rhythmically speaking patterned lyrics throughout a song. In many popular songs today, rap can take up an entire song, or simply be put in a single verse in another vocalist s performance. Although the rap genre and Broadway genre are slightly similar in terms of the music production, they are, however, significantly different in the way that they are performed, and the reasons why ... For the first invention, one must focus on the preparation, requiring little conscious attention, and taking up little space on the scratch pad . In the writers perspective, the purpose of preparation is to create shortcuts that will make resulting patterns of complex motor actions (like for example, the fingering sequence) more or less automatic. While in the process, an approach can be marking one s music at critical points, such as where accidentals appear and the location of key or tempo changes; another would be using different colored sticky notes as cues for some aspects of playing. Jacqueline Rose went so far as to say Peter Pan offers us the child for ever. It gives us the child, but it does not speak to the child (58). When Rose says us she is referring to adults. It is the adult that wants Peter Pan to stay young forever, not the child. Although Peter explicitly states, I want always to be a little boy and to have fun there follows a parenthetical, so perhaps he thinks, but it is only his greatest pretend (1354). The parenthetical suggests that perhaps this eternity in childhood is not actually Peter s desire, but a lie he has invented to stay young forever. The question then becomes why. The answer is revealed in Hook s heartbreak at Pan s loss of his memories (1351). Hook embodies the fear of adults, the fear of the ticking clock. However, Hook is unable to escape the crocodile of time, so he attempts to live forever through Peter Pan s memory, but he is ultimately unsuccessful. Peter s inability to remember Hook symbolizes the moving of time, a childhood Hook can never go back to and an immortality he can never attain. Comparative advantage The theory attributes the cause and benefits of international trade to the differences among countries in the relative opportunity costs of producing the same commodities. In his theory, Ricardo does not see the fact that one country could produce everything more efficiently than another as an argument against free international trade. In the end no one will remain without something to do. Evolving countries like China that have low wages and therefore lower costs and prices for their products will still leave space for other countries to produce what they have a certain cost advantage in. This will be decided according to the distribution of resources for production around the globe. Some countries may have a natural advantage, by having access to certain natural resources other countries don t have, or an acquired advantage based on the technology and skills more developed in some countries than others. This way, all countries will sell and buy products at lower costs than if they were to produce themselves. 4. They have an incredibly tight co operation on such a wide variety of things, ranging from trade and economics to military power, nuclear weapons and intelligence; one that is almost unprecedented in history for two separate nations. After the Second World War, when the relationship was crystallised by the term it became one as much of personal friendships as of political power; and given the closeness developed between the two nations as a result of wartime, it became a keystone of post war politics in both countries, having significant impact in both of their subsequent histories, and also those of other nations. Some of these relationships have been iconic in their pairings: Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan; Tony Blair and George Bush; Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt (who were in fact related); whilst others have been less fruitful Anthony Eden, a man previously considered to be the authority of his time on foreign policy, having been Foreign Secretary for 30 years, had to resign as Prime Minister following the Suez Crisis and its resultant deterioration of the trust and relationship he had with ...
