The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837-1838 Essay
The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837 1838
The rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada were in the interests of self government but were doomed
to failure from their beginning. Each of these two colonies encountered a great deal of problems right
from the institution of the Constitution Act of 1791 and the problems continually got worse until the
only choice to some seem to be rebellion. There were several problems that lead to the rebellions of
1837 38. In Lower Canada there was the agricultural crisis that caused a large number of starvations,
to the French and English political and social problems within the colony. There were several different
reasons that caused the rebellion in Upper Canada but these caused were mainly rooted in ... Show

The next major issue was that of immigration which brought tens of millions of people from Europe.
These people would be heading to the United States, Upper Canada or Lower Canada. When these
immigrants came they would land in Quebec and with them they would bring disease that killed a
large amount of French Canadians. This aggravated the French people because they saw this as a plot
of the English to get rid of the French Canadians . Adding to these problems was the establishment of
the British America Land Company. This new land company was given over 500 acres of Lower
Canada s prime land. The company would not allow French people to buy this land; only the English
and Americans could purchase the land. The French people found it increasingly difficult to get land
and the government wasn t doing anything about this. All of these problems lead to the assembly
issuing the ninety two resolutions that had two main points that were responsible government and
control of money. The ruling English class didn t want the French people to gain this power because
they wanted to French to remain oppressed and out of the upper class The Chateau Clique in Lower
Canada wanted to prevent the French from winning complete control over the government and
English speaking people would be under the control of the French. The response to the ninety two
resolutions was the issuing of the ten resolutions from Britain that stated that there would be no

Cat s Tail Lab Report
This study was done by Walker et al to find out what the role of a cat s tail regarding its balance. The
Scientist used four different adult cats. All of the cats walked a runway and two of the cat jumped up
and down from a table. To better see how the tails reacted, the scientist shaved all of the cat s tails
every week. The scientist had the cats walk the bride and would randomly move the runway left and
right after the cat passed the half way point. The scientist chose random trails to move the runway
because they did want the cats to find a pattern and adjust their balance. The scientist measured how
long it took the cats to go the full distance and from the recordings, they measured how much the tail
bent in response to the movement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The medicine ball was also dropped from the same height as the cat to test if the cat will reduce its
force of impact. After all the testing was done it was very clear that force on the on cat, which was
about 2 kg less, was a lot less then the medicine ball. As shown in Figure 3 the cat and the medicine
ball s maximum force increased as the height increased, but the medicine ball increased linearly, while
the cat s line was more curved. Since the cat s graph is curved and a lot lower than the medicine ball,
the cat manipulates its body to lessen the forces that it experiences in a fall (McCarthy

Compare and Contrast Spanish and British Colonization...
Compare and contrast Spanish and British colonization efforts in North America prior to 1763. Prior
to 1763, both Spanish and British colonization efforts expanded into various regions of North
America. In less than a century, from 1625 to 1700, the movements of peoples and goods from Europe
to North America transformed the continent. Native Americans either resisted or accommodated the
newcomers depending on the region of the colony. Though the English colonies were by far the most
populous, within the English colonies, four distinct regions emerged. While planters or merchants
grew in power in each English colony, Spanish colonists, with far fewer colonists, depended more on
friendly relations with Native Americans to secure their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English had a much larger population in their colonies than the Spanish, in fact, in 1700; there
was a total population of 250,000 in the English colonies compared to 4,500 in the Spanish. A larger
population in the colonies meant there was more manpower for work and, in addition, a greater wealth
development. This led to a greater distinction between the English and the Spanish, which was the
mass level by which slaves were used in colonial society. The Spanish too had similar ways of
acquiring cheap labor services by establishing the Encomienda system. This system, unlike the
English, exploited the Indians for personal profits rather than slaves imported from Africa. As English
colonies, particularly in the south, focused on establishing an agrarian society; the Spanish did not
focus as much on maintaining an agriculture based society. In marked contrast to England s compact,
densely populated settlements on the Atlantic, Spain established far flung inland networks of fortified
trading posts and missions. Unlike the English, they were unable to attract large numbers of colonists,
and thus enlisted Native Americans as trading partners and military allies. The Catholic nation had far
greater success in converting natives to Christianity than their Protestant counterpart. By 1700,
Spanish missionaries, traders, and soldiers were spreading their influence beyond the range of England
s colonies; to

Hrm 531 Week 3 Individual Assignment
During my co op work placement, I was employed at Evichat Inc. in the position of Full Stack
Developer. The total size of the company is 5 people. The Software Development team where I
worked with was relatively small compared to other companies as it is an early stage startup.
Throughout the work placement, I was worked on projects that involved integrating with third parties
including Relativity and Clio, improving web app security with role based authentication and
improving site SEO.
The team s main goal or goals were to improve search speed of text search compared to SQL text
search, develop an AI solution that provides semantic search results in the context of social media,
integrate with third parties to transmit data that the lawyer has requested, comply with Canadian data

The team split into either teams of 2 or individuals to accomplish these goals over the course of the
term.
My tasks included integrating with Relativity and Clio, improving search result navigation, and
improving web app security with role based authentication. For the Relativity integration, I built an
ASP.Net web API that would take a JSON request sent by our Ruby on Rails application server and
send it to Relativity using the Relativity Services API. The ASP.Net server is written in C# so I learned
the relevant C# skills necessary to facilitate the success of the task. This server was deployed to our
Amazon Web Services environment with Amazon Web Services Elastic Beanstalk to be used by our
clients. Another task I worked on was to integrate with Clio, a legal practice management software. In
particular, clients have requested that we have the ability to export relevant documents that they have
been working on to Clio to manage with the rest of their case data. Clio

Herram Delvile
The relationship between Cecilia and Mortimer Delvile is one of the most frustrating parts of the
novel. Delvile is an indecisive, self centered man who does not think about the effects that his actions
might have on another person. He is not malicious, but he is inconsiderate and he introduces great pain
into Cecilia s life. He initially confesses to her that he loves her, then ignores her just long enough that
she is able to move on from him, then comes back into her life under the pretense of friendship, and
then he leaves again. His flippant disregard for her feelings takes a toll on Cecilia as she tries to
pinpoint what kind of relationship they actually have. Delvile finally decides that he does indeed love
her and want to be with her, so he travels to find her and suggests what he believes to be an excellent
compromise for the both of them: a secret wedding. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The line The joy with which he heard it...was as violent as the eagerness with which he had sought it
is especially poignant; while Delvile may love Cecilia, he is totally ignorant of how a secret wedding
will take a toll on her personal morality. The scene comments on how men often innately brush aside
female concerns because they are affected by them, nor do they want to take the time to understand
where women are coming from. Not to mention, the secret wedding is only on the table in the first
place because Delvile cannot bring himself to take Cecilia s surname as his own, therefore taking on a

Black Fate- Analysis of Aeschylus The Persians
Aeschylus play, The Persians, took place at the Persian Royal Palace in Susa. It depicted the emotional
response of the Persian Elders, the Queen Mother Atossa, a herald, King Xerxes, and the ghost of
Darius upon hearing the news of the Persian defeat at the Battle of Salamis against the Greeks. The
play began with a conversation amongst the Persians elders about their war with the Greeks. They
possessed grave trepidations because of a lack of news from the front. This fear stemmed from the
great risk King Xerxes took by calling all the heroes and soldiers of the Persian Empire to fight in
Greece. At first, they were confident of their victory, describing their forces as an unconquerable
ocean of men . However, their fear persisted of their forces decimation. Later on, the Queen Mother,
Atossa appeared before the Elders with an ominous vision. She acquired about the land and
personality of the Greeks while the Elders reassured her of their army s success. When Atossa was
about to leave to make sacrifices to the gods, a herald entered the palace with horrific news. The
Persian forces was decimated by the smaller Greek forces at the Salamis, almost all of their heroes
were dead, but Xerxes was still alive. Upon hearing the description of the battle s carnage, the Elders
and the Queen Mother broke out into agony and mourned the loss of their men at Salamis. The group
professes how the Persians were cursed with Black Fate , and the gods willed the victory of the
Greeks.

Descriptive Essay On A Tridaday Morning
Wednesday Morning
It is a typical Wednesday morning, the middle of the week, and I m running late to school. It s 7:43
and most students are making a mad dash to beat the morning bell, others linger around the green
courtyard, catching up with friends, dreading going to class. I make my way through the maze of
students, and I catch my best friend, Lauren, in the stairwell at the top of A building, both on our way
to the history class we have together. We do not say a word, just share a look that says we want to go
home and we need more coffee, before we head into class.
Our class is always in chaos in the mornings. The boys compare what they have for breakfast today
and discuss last night s baseball game play by play, while the girls get together and share a bit of
gossip they heard last night and begin to make plans for the weekend. Today was no exception. Just as
the tardy bell rings, I sit in my seat at the corner of the room and notice that Kaylin, who sits behind
me, is crying. Her face is red and blotchy and she is staring at her phone. I choose to act like I do not
notice, because it must have been a rough morning and I would not want anyone bothering me if I
were in her position. Then Abbie, who sits in the desk beside Kaylin, comes in a few minutes late, also
crying. Lauren and I exchange confused glances, and I suddenly realize our teacher, Mrs. Hendrix, isn
t in the room. How strange, I think to myself, she is almost always here to greet us when we walk in

Essay about The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow
The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow
The very first thing the audience sees when watching this film is a thick red liquid dripping onto a
parchment. Because the audience expects the film to be a horror film, they automatically think the
liquid is blood. Seeing this image makes the audience assume someone has been murdered or at least
injured. This one picture spurs questions in a person s mind like, who does the blood belong to? and
Has someone been killed? The audience will want these questions answered, so they will continue to
watch. A little later, the audience sees that the dripping blood is nothing more than sealing wax

The actual parchment that the wax is dripping onto is someone s Last Will and Testament. This
instantly tells the viewer that someone has died, or perhaps is about to die since the same person that
signed the document as a witness, signs it as the man
that was supposed to have written the will. There is a huge close up of the will with the camera
sweeping down from the top of the page to the middle. As the camera moves down, so do the viewers
eyes as they read what is written on the page. There is a sort of sweeping sound effect mimicking the
camera s movement. After the will has been signed, it goes back to the dripping sealing wax and then
a seal is pressed down into it. There is, again, a close up of the seal being used and the sound effect is
repeated. Since these sound effects would not occur in real life, they emphasis to the audience that the
particular event they are heard with must be very important. Emphasis is given on an audio level as
well as a visual level. The seal is lifted away to reveal the name of the family regarding the will.
The next shot is of galloping horses, but only their legs are shown. There is a sense of urgency in this
scene because of the speed of the horses and their grunts of exertion. It is as if they are running away
from something. Again, this is happening in the darkness and at night,

Toylan Zelinski Refugee
Background Toylan Zelinski ( our client ), a Ukraine national, has applied for refugee status based on
his homosexuality. A few days ago, Ukraine State authorities convicted our client, in absentia, for
engaging in homosexual activities. As per your email of October 28, 2016, you have asked me to
research on the possible impact of the above mentioned conviction on our client s immigration and
refugee application in Canada. You have specifically asked me to address the following two questions:
Issues: 1. Will the conviction of our client in Ukraine, render him ineligible to make a refugee claim in
Canada? 2. Can the conviction for being a homosexual in Ukraine be used in any way to support our
client s refugee application in Canada? Short Answer: 1. No, the conviction for being a homosexual in
Ukraine does not render our client ineligible for refugee claim in Canada. 2. Yes, the conviction for
being a homosexual in Ukraine can be used to support our client s refugee claim in Canada.
Discussion: 1. Conviction for being a homosexual in Ukraine does not render our client ineligible for
refugee claim in Canada A criminal conviction for being a homosexual in Ukraine will not render our
client ineligible to make a refugee claim in Canada since homosexuality is not a criminal offense in
Canada. A determination of convention refugee status is made by an immigration officer or tribunal,
based on several factors under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act ( the Act ).

V2 Rocket Research Paper
Title spot
If you were to ask someone about rockets or rocketry they would probably talk about rocket ships or
satellites and the good they do for mankind, few would speak of the darker side of rockets the side that
started them all. Most wouldn t think that the age of rocketry started in the middle of the Second
World War but it did, and the amount of destruction that came from the earliest of the rockets was
devastating and highly unexpected. The V2 Rocket was the first in a long lineage of weapons that
would change the way war was fought for many years. Despite the terrible things that came from the
development of the V2 Rockets they were a very necessary technological advancement.
The concept of a weapon that traveled faster than the speed of sound in 1944 was science fiction to
even to some of the most advanced minds at the time, but it didn t take very long for one man,
Wernher von Braun, to start developing this new weapon. The V2 rocket was the first man made
object to nearly make it to the fringe of space, specifically the V2 rockets went up 52 60 miles with

Assisted Suicide Ethical Dilemmas
It is my belief that assisted suicide is completely ethical and therefore should be made legal.
Throughout the mainstream media over the last twelve months, the topic of assisted suicide, which
was once taboo, has been mentioned more times than nought. The number of people taking their lives
by assisted suicide in 2014, alone, was 792 people. This figure jumped to a whopping 1,004 the
following year in the Netherlands alone. While the state of Oregon has seen a 26% increase in assisted
suicide in the years from 2011 2015.
The topic of assisted suicide has skyrocketed so much thanks to the bestselling novel Me Before You
by Jojo Moyes and the subsequent movie that followed. This movie allowed the public to build a
stronger opinion on the ethicalness of this topic rather than just brushing it aside and announcing that
it was some ridiculous idea. Assisted suicide is a great escape for people who have no other way out
and do not have the means to end their own lives. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

may choose this option.
This is also a lot easier if someone has very expensive medical treatment, this would lessen the cost of
it significantly which could be a major factor for someone who would be leaving behind a large family
or one that is struggling to get by. Another advantage of assisted suicide is that if the family have more
time to prepare for the death of a loved one it makes it a lot easier to be prepared and the grief is also
easier to handle as they knew that this was coming.
This also makes it easier on the patient as they can choose the way to spend their last remaining days
in the way they see fit and gives them the full right to choose how they live and die, which is the most

The Piano Lesson Is A Play That Was Written By August Wilson.
The Piano Lesson is a play that was written by August Wilson. The story is used in a collection of
plays by Wilson to show the struggles of African Americans throughout the twentieth century The
story takes place in 1937 Pittsburgh with an African American family that battle within themselves on
whether or not to keep a family heirloom, a carved piano. Wilson hits hot points of the past and today
with his view on civil rights and the power of death. In The Piano Lesson is a tool that allows the

He is in a literal battle with a member of the dead and he survives. Had he not overcome death
previously Willie would have suffered the consequences. He is able to live another day because of the
fact that he is not afraid to die. Racial tensions still have a large impact on modern society that need to
be changed so that all are considered equal. Wilson starts by pointing out the racial inadequacies in
society using the scene where Lymon and Boy Willie go to collect their wood, Me [Lymon] and Boy
Willie got away but the sheriff got us. Say we was stealing wood. They shot me in my stomach
(Wilson 37). The police assume because the men are black that they are stealing the wood.
Discrimination, in the end, is the long build up of misunderstandings between people who at first
glance seem to be unsimilar. This is shown by the incident with the wood. The police believe that Boy
Willie and Lymon are stealing the wood, even though they were given permission to take some of the
wood for themselves. By assuming that they are thieves, they draw a line between blacks and whites.
They then spread this assumption to others who conclude the same thing which further strengthens the
division. This leads to entire populations hating other populations from one misunderstanding. Hatred
carries influence, and hatred is a powerful tool that Wilson shows that the whites dominate. For
example, And he go and fix it with the law that them is his berries.

Everything is interconnected through the internet nowadays. The internet is the connection of assorted

Ciarlone say in a statement One of the first things that Juniper realized was that, due to Cisco s
monolithic pricing, smaller businesses were being shut out of high end networking almost entirely
(Ciarlone). He goes on to say that using Juniper products are great for small to medium sized
networks. Cisco has moved up to higher tier networking and thus their equipment has upped in price
as well (Ciarlone). Juniper is aimed at not only the big networking side but also heavily caters to the
small scale network side. The devices range in different tiers of price and ability. The biggest
difference has to be the price in the products. The price of a product can make or break a company s
network infrastructure; not all companies can budget themselves for the greatest network
infrastructure. Jim Duffy compares and contrasts these two networking giants and points out many
differences, Jim goes on to quote Jeff Doyle, the president of IP consultancy Jeff Doyle and Associates
saying The reality is, IOS is pretty old. [JUNOS] was architecturally designed differently. It s more
modern and modular, meaning bug fixes are easier and functional failures tend to be not as impactual
as they are with as IOS. (Duffy). The modularity of Junos is what makes it a cut above the rest. Junos

Corpse Bride Symbolism
The character that really caught my attention was Emily. Considering the fact she has been dead for
year now Burton did a splendid job creating a mysteriously alluring corpse bride. Relating death to the
color blue because blue is the coldest color, Emily is blue from head to toe except for her subtle but
sweet pink lips. Corpse Bride had me at the maggot. In multiple scenes the corpse bride s eye falls out
and a maggot comes from inside her head and gives her advice. I feel the eye falling out is to
symbolize Emily being half blind to what s going on around her. The fact that Burton can use stop
motion and have an eyeball fall from Emily s face is pure magic. Based on true events dating back to
the 19th century about gangs that would snag

The passages above are saying essentially the same thing, however, the one published by CNN is not

The Element Of Criminal Liability
Introduction
Crime can be defined as an action or omission that can is constituted as an offence, going against the
values of society and is an act which is punishable by law with either a fine, imprisonment or
whatever punishment fits the nature of the crime. In this report there will be a discussion on the two
element on criminal liability which are as followed Mens Rea (guilty mind) and Actus Reus (guilty
act). Different components constitute these elements and are used to make up a crime. However there
have been cases were the use of mens rea has very minimal effect and actus reus is the only element
proven in the offence. For example; Rape even though it is considered a serious offence, there have
been incidents were lack of consent was applicable to the crime as the person may have been induced
to object to force, fear or fraud and the accused would have mentally believed that the victim had
consent hence lacking the mens rea element and continuing the sexual penetration which is the actus
reus component of the offence. This report will also cover the defences to mens rea (intoxication,
mental impairment and infancy and also defences to actus reus (self defence, consent, execution of the
law and misadventure/ mere accident) as well as strict liability in reference to the elements required
for a crime and a table identifying offence/s present in the given scenario.

twice your weight, and walking into a freezing cold rink makes you think why do this. All hockey
players have asked themselves this but growing up in a rink is a choice that no one regrets. You learn
from a very young age that hockey is the greatest sport on the earth. Nothing can compare to the
sacrifice, toughness, hard work, teamwork, physical, and brotherhood that hockey requires and
creates. Hockey is tough therefore making it one of the hardest games ever to exist. Unlike football,
basketball, and baseball, it is played on a giant slippery, and bitterly cold surface. Hockey combines
the bone crushing hits that football players throw, the unique and exceptional footwork that basketball
players have and the hand eye coordination that baseball players have. To reiterate, this is all
happening on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At all times a team needs to be working together as a unit. If a team does not work together they will
fail. For instance, a team must break out the puck from their defensive zone. No one person can do
this on their own. This is different from any other sports like baseball which is more judged on each
effort of an individual. Thus makes hockey an exceptional game that generates an unbreakable bond
between teammates. Hockey players are brothers off the ice. Hockey creates a silent bond of respect
for each other. For an example, hockey has the World Cup. An event where the world s professional
hockey players come together and compete with their home nation. During this event, rivals meaning
players that play against each other, are then put as teammates. They might hate each other when they
are on different teams but once brought together, by this silent bond that no other sport creates, they
are willing to sacrifice everything for each

Eve By Christina Rossetti
In A Daughter of Eve , Christina Rossetti describes a prostitute who regrets her decisions in the past;
this regret is sparked by her loss of virginity. Through the prostitute s perspective, Rossetti conveys
that a loss of innocence can lead to regret through her use of biblical references, contrast of time and
seasons, and evocative diction that helps augment her bitter tone of remorse.
Firstly, the title is a reference to the myth of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman and ancestors of
all human beings. The daughter of eve at first glance seems to represent the prostitute a female human.
Upon further thinking, it is likely that the title connects to how all women are prone to temptation,
much like how Eve was tempted to eat the apple. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first stanza of the poem the speaker writes A fool I was to sleep at noon,/ And wake when night
is chilly (Rossetti 1 2) Noon is the time of the day when it is bright outside and has connotations to
innocence, whereas the chilly night has a negative connotation. This is especially supported in the next
line where the speaker describes the chilly night Beneath the comfortless cold moon; (Rossetti 3). This
further enforces the negative connotation of night. This contrast between night and day further
symbolizes the prostitute s loss of innocence and the remorse she feels. Furthermore, a similar scheme
can be seen in the second stanza where the speaker contrasts the seasons of summer and winter. She
recalls Oh it was summer when I slept,/ It s winter now I awaken. (Rossetti 9 10) Summer is typically
seen as a season of joy and winter is perceived as the cold season of despair. In line 11, Rossetti writes
Talk what you please of future spring (Rossetti 11). Spring is seen as the season of a new start; the
speaker regrets her decisions so much as to yearn for a new start. Moreover, Rossetti is trying to
express the pain and suffering that comes from the regretful

Comparing Utilitarianism To Christian Ethics And The Bible
Any decision and action a person makes are based on moral principles that govern their behaviour,
known as ethics. Many different fundamentals of ethics rationalize and justify peoples decisions. One
specific theory is called utilitarianism. This research paper will summarize this theory and evaluate the
strengths and weaknesses relating utilitarianism to Christian Ethics and the Bible. Also, an application
of utilitarianism to the moral issue or killing another human being will be discussed. Utilitarianism
perspectives can be found in many situations throughout history. It is one of the most powerful and
persuasive approaches to normative ethics in the history of philosophy (Driver). Utilitarianism

Helen De Hogan Analysis
The Power of Beauty
Helen plays an important role in Greek mythology, history, poetry, and drama. Each writer portrays
Helen in a different way, showing how they each understand a woman s behavior. Helen s beauty tells
the story of the destruction to Troy during the Trojan War. Helen, the queen of Sparta, left her
husband, Menelaus, to be with Paris, a Trojan prince, and caused a thousand ships to be sent after her,
starting a ten year war between the Greeks and the Trojans. Christopher Marlowe and Evelyn De
Morgan dig deep into the life of Helen to show the good and the bad of beauty. Both Helen of Troy by
Evelyn De Morgan and Description of Helen by Christopher Marlowe use the mythological character

in both the painting and the poem is that women blessed with the gift of beauty can use it against
others in either a good or bad way making them feel a sense of

European Colonialism
In the fourth group of documents, Texts from the Modern World, the common theme in all five
primary sources is European colonialism. The documents show different beliefs and notions about
European Colonialism drawing from the point of view of both its beneficiaries and its victims; out of
the five documents three were written by people of European descent and two were written by
indigenous people. Europeans, such as Rudyard Kipling, John Stuart Mill, and Lewis Cass, see
colonialism as being a mutually beneficial relationship between Europeans and the indigenous people
they encounter. They believe that they there are not only benefitting economically from colonialism,
but that they are also doing a good to the human race by introducing the indigenous people they
encounter to civilization. While some indigenous people refuted European efforts of Westernization,
others fought for the right to benefit economically and socially from colonialism, and argued that the
Europeans were not keeping their promise to them. In the document, On Colonies and Colonization,
John Stuart Mill makes an argument in support of European colonization. Mill recognized that
colonization was boosting the English economy, but he took his argument further, saying The question
of government intervention in the work of Colonization involves the future and permanent interest of
civilization itself, and far outstretches the comparatively narrow limits of purely economic
considerations. In his opinion,

The Representations Of Women In Renaissance Literature
The literature of the Renaissance society gives us direct insight into the dominant culture and attitudes
of the male sector and its attitudes towards women. Nevertheless, it also gives us possibly unintended
insight and knowledge about the cultural activities of women from this time. Representations of
women in literary texts describe the true virtues and gentilities of the Renaissance, yet we can discover
through them, something of social truth and reality. (Mention/show picture on paratext) Here, a

Charles II Dbq Essay
The reign of Charles II and the revolution against his brother James show that England in the later
seventeenth century was ready to be Tory and Anglican but not Roman Catholic and Francophile.
Discuss.
It is not wrong to assume that the consequence of the reigns of Charles and James II was to lead
England to be Tory for some time, at least and Anglican rather than Francophile and Catholic. Both
Charles and James II had sympathies for Catholicism, and England had had a tense and problematic
relationship with Roman Catholicism since the reign of Henry VIII. This tendency and the relationship
of Charles with Louis XIV contributed greatly to the ever increasing hostility towards France and
Catholicism.
At first, Charles was willing to implement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Danby was pro Dutch, anti French, and anti Catholic who sought to strengthen the Commons loyalty
to the King. To accomplish his objectives, he concentrated his efforts in the House of Commons. The

normally opposed the Crown. Later, the Court party was called Tory, and the Country party, Whig. He
sought the loyalty of the Court party by giving them pensions, offices, and payments in cash.
To worsen the situation of Catholics, rumors about a Popish Plot started to be spread. Oates and
Tonge, the ones who invented the plot, affirmed that a group of Jesuits were planning to kill the King
and place in his place his Catholic brother, James. Thereupon these declarations, a wave of false
accusations against Catholics were made, and many were punished and killed. The Commons passed a
bill hardening the Test Act. In response to this supposed Popish Plot, the Whigs started a plot to
prevent James from becoming the new King when Charles died. When this conspiracy was brought to

In the classic movie Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, uses of irony occur frequently until
the movie meets its tragic end. Starting with Jeff s confinement and ending with the symbolic death of

A comment made by Irving himself expressed his feelings towards his characters:
I am always at a loss to know how much to believe of my own stories. (From Tales of a Traveler,
1824) (Oldstyle 1)
This comment is used to show the significance of Irving s fictional works to American literature. He
used styles such as manipulation and imagery to captivate the reader. Imagery such as in Chapter 1 of
Rip Van Winkle is enchanting and grabs the reader:
When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines
on the clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather
a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and
light up like a crown of glory. (Knickerbocker 2)

the piece. This style is typical now and is among many that has been brought or shared through
Washington Irving s fictional works, as well as his European experiences have brought life to his non

Early Christian Art
In Rome, the inception of Christianity was not embraced with open arms to say the least. This was
mainly due to Rome s emperors feeling threatened by the newly founded religion. Meetings between
Christians were prohibited, and the clergy were persecuted with much vigor. [Christians were]
considered to be a danger to the state.... (Shlosser 179) Since the religious practice of Christianity was
deemed illegal by officials, the use of symbols was essential when it came to not only signaling a
meeting place but also for the continuation of the religion. A fish is an example of one of the various
symbols adopted by Christians.

How Did Slavery Affect Roman Economy
Discussion Forum Unit 8
How did slaves affect the daily Roman economy?
Introduction:
As a sign of great wealth and power, slaves were primarily prisoners of war (POW), both captured
fighters and the women and children of conquered populations. With no reservation, it is historically
clear that slaves contributed a lot to the growth of Roman economy. As slaves formed significant part
of the labor force, they were also vita to fabric of Roman society. Slaves were involved in the
following aspects of economy: farming, mining, domestic works, white collar jobs and others. The
Daily Roman Economy:
In Rome, slavery was a major force of farming. Farming shifted to estate slavery due to influx of
slaves. Farms were initially owned and run by small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slaves working as domestic workers in private household had the chance to seek favor with their
owners and perhaps get their freedom. And they constituted the private staff of villas, town house, and
palaces.
Nevertheless, slaves were also white collar job workers who kept the machinery of bureaucracy and
administration working and in other government services such as the mint and corn supply.
They worked as accountants in private businesses, and as teachers, secretaries, librarians, doctors,
scribes, artists, and entertainers.
Slavery was fundamental to the Roman economy, perhaps more essential than any other ancient
civilization. Slavery gradually changed and expand as Rome expanded through conquest. For all of
the greatness and grandeur of Ancient Rome, the Roman economy never developed into anything
horribly intricate compared to modern economies. Ancient Rome was an agricultural and slave based
economy whose main concern was feeding the vast number of citizens and legionaries who populated
the Mediterranean region (unrv.com, n.d).

What Is The Theme Of Borders By Thomas King
All the Borders Crossed in Thomas King s Borders Thomas King s short story Borders narrates the
conflict occurring in North America, in which a Native American mom and her son become involved
when she tries to cross the borders between Canada and U.S to visit her daughter Laetitia, but she
denies to claim other citizenship than Blackfoot. Although the only border explicitly crossed is the
geographical border separating both countries, the title s plurality suggests there is more than one
single border present in the story. A further analysis to the comments about the Blackfoot community,
the differences between Laetitia and her mother, and the ways of identification requested by the
guards, suggests that they are three more other borders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mother is the character representing the pride of the Blackfoot. She attempts to pass their values
down to her children by narrating them their myths, as her son describes, she d tell them slow,
repeating parts as she went, as if she expected me to remember each one. (144), but he does not pay
attention and think about food instead. Due to being from different generations, the two siblings, do
not share the same sense of belonging to the Blackfoot that the mother has, and therefore they lack the
effort towards understanding her. Laetitia is especially reluctant towards the Blackfoot tradition, which
can be appreciated in the dialogue: You can still see the mountain from here, my mother told Laetitia
in Blackfoot. Lots of mountains in Salt Lake, Laetitia told her in English. (135) Laetitia does not
embrace her Blackfoot identity, as she is not willing to speak in Blackfoot and eventually ends up
moving to the U.S. As Gruber argues, King s depiction of the scenario amalgamates a universal
teenage disinterest in traditional values with more specifically Native issue of the precarious nature of
the oral tradition (357). This generational border is finally crossed when the mother s fight is shown
on TV. In that shifting moment, Laetitia is finally able to understand her mother and to appreciate her
Blackfoot heritage, as she wants to hear the story of the borders over and over again and considers

  • 2. The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837-1838 Essay The Causes for the Rebellion of 1837 1838 The rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada were in the interests of self government but were doomed to failure from their beginning. Each of these two colonies encountered a great deal of problems right from the institution of the Constitution Act of 1791 and the problems continually got worse until the only choice to some seem to be rebellion. There were several problems that lead to the rebellions of 1837 38. In Lower Canada there was the agricultural crisis that caused a large number of starvations, to the French and English political and social problems within the colony. There were several different reasons that caused the rebellion in Upper Canada but these caused were mainly rooted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next major issue was that of immigration which brought tens of millions of people from Europe. These people would be heading to the United States, Upper Canada or Lower Canada. When these immigrants came they would land in Quebec and with them they would bring disease that killed a large amount of French Canadians. This aggravated the French people because they saw this as a plot of the English to get rid of the French Canadians . Adding to these problems was the establishment of the British America Land Company. This new land company was given over 500 acres of Lower Canada s prime land. The company would not allow French people to buy this land; only the English and Americans could purchase the land. The French people found it increasingly difficult to get land and the government wasn t doing anything about this. All of these problems lead to the assembly issuing the ninety two resolutions that had two main points that were responsible government and control of money. The ruling English class didn t want the French people to gain this power because they wanted to French to remain oppressed and out of the upper class The Chateau Clique in Lower Canada wanted to prevent the French from winning complete control over the government and English speaking people would be under the control of the French. The response to the ninety two resolutions was the issuing of the ten resolutions from Britain that stated that there would be no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cat s Tail Lab Report This study was done by Walker et al to find out what the role of a cat s tail regarding its balance. The Scientist used four different adult cats. All of the cats walked a runway and two of the cat jumped up and down from a table. To better see how the tails reacted, the scientist shaved all of the cat s tails every week. The scientist had the cats walk the bride and would randomly move the runway left and right after the cat passed the half way point. The scientist chose random trails to move the runway because they did want the cats to find a pattern and adjust their balance. The scientist measured how long it took the cats to go the full distance and from the recordings, they measured how much the tail bent in response to the movement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The medicine ball was also dropped from the same height as the cat to test if the cat will reduce its force of impact. After all the testing was done it was very clear that force on the on cat, which was about 2 kg less, was a lot less then the medicine ball. As shown in Figure 3 the cat and the medicine ball s maximum force increased as the height increased, but the medicine ball increased linearly, while the cat s line was more curved. Since the cat s graph is curved and a lot lower than the medicine ball, the cat manipulates its body to lessen the forces that it experiences in a fall (McCarthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare and Contrast Spanish and British Colonization... Compare and contrast Spanish and British colonization efforts in North America prior to 1763. Prior to 1763, both Spanish and British colonization efforts expanded into various regions of North America. In less than a century, from 1625 to 1700, the movements of peoples and goods from Europe to North America transformed the continent. Native Americans either resisted or accommodated the newcomers depending on the region of the colony. Though the English colonies were by far the most populous, within the English colonies, four distinct regions emerged. While planters or merchants grew in power in each English colony, Spanish colonists, with far fewer colonists, depended more on friendly relations with Native Americans to secure their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The English had a much larger population in their colonies than the Spanish, in fact, in 1700; there was a total population of 250,000 in the English colonies compared to 4,500 in the Spanish. A larger population in the colonies meant there was more manpower for work and, in addition, a greater wealth development. This led to a greater distinction between the English and the Spanish, which was the mass level by which slaves were used in colonial society. The Spanish too had similar ways of acquiring cheap labor services by establishing the Encomienda system. This system, unlike the English, exploited the Indians for personal profits rather than slaves imported from Africa. As English colonies, particularly in the south, focused on establishing an agrarian society; the Spanish did not focus as much on maintaining an agriculture based society. In marked contrast to England s compact, densely populated settlements on the Atlantic, Spain established far flung inland networks of fortified trading posts and missions. Unlike the English, they were unable to attract large numbers of colonists, and thus enlisted Native Americans as trading partners and military allies. The Catholic nation had far greater success in converting natives to Christianity than their Protestant counterpart. By 1700, Spanish missionaries, traders, and soldiers were spreading their influence beyond the range of England s colonies; to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Software Development team where I worked with was relatively small compared to other companies as it is an early stage startup. Throughout the work placement, I was worked on projects that involved integrating with third parties including Relativity and Clio, improving web app security with role based authentication and improving site SEO. The team s main goal or goals were to improve search speed of text search compared to SQL text search, develop an AI solution that provides semantic search results in the context of social media, integrate with third parties to transmit data that the lawyer has requested, comply with Canadian data privacy security law and security audits requested by law firms, and refactor ... My tasks included integrating with Relativity and Clio, improving search result navigation, and improving web app security with role based authentication. For the Relativity integration, I built an ASP.Net web API that would take a JSON request sent by our Ruby on Rails application server and send it to Relativity using the Relativity Services API. The ASP.Net server is written in C# so I learned the relevant C# skills necessary to facilitate the success of the task. This server was deployed to our Amazon Web Services environment with Amazon Web Services Elastic Beanstalk to be used by our clients. Another task I worked on was to integrate with Clio, a legal practice management software. In particular, clients have requested that we have the ability to export relevant documents that they have been working on to Clio to manage with the rest of their case data. Clio ... • 6. Herram Delvile The relationship between Cecilia and Mortimer Delvile is one of the most frustrating parts of the novel. Delvile is an indecisive, self centered man who does not think about the effects that his actions might have on another person. He is not malicious, but he is inconsiderate and he introduces great pain into Cecilia s life. • 8. Descriptive Essay On A Tridaday Morning Wednesday Morning It is a typical Wednesday morning, the middle of the week, and I m running late to school. It s 7:43 and most students are making a mad dash to beat the morning bell, others linger around the green courtyard, catching up with friends, dreading going to class. I make my way through the maze of students, and I catch my best friend, Lauren, in the stairwell at the top of A building, both on our way to the history class we have together. We do not say a word, just share a look that says we want to go home and we need more coffee, before we head into class. Our class is always in chaos in the mornings. The boys compare what they have for breakfast today and discuss last night s baseball game play by play, while the girls get together and share a bit of gossip they heard last night and begin to make plans for the weekend. Today was no exception. Just as the tardy bell rings, I sit in my seat at the corner of the room and notice that Kaylin, who sits behind me, is crying. Her face is red and blotchy and she is staring at her phone. I choose to act like I do not notice, because it must have been a rough morning and I would not want anyone bothering me if I were in her position. Then Abbie, who sits in the desk beside Kaylin, comes in a few minutes late, also crying. Lauren and I exchange confused glances, and I suddenly realize our teacher, Mrs. Hendrix, isn t in the room. Essay about The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow The very first thing the audience sees when watching this film is a thick red liquid dripping onto a parchment. Because the audience expects the film to be a horror film, they automatically think the liquid is blood. Seeing this image makes the audience assume someone has been murdered or at least injured. This one picture spurs questions in a person s mind like, who does the blood belong to? and Has someone been killed? The audience will want these questions answered, so they will continue to watch. The actual parchment that the wax is dripping onto is someone s Last Will and Testament. This instantly tells the viewer that someone has died, or perhaps is about to die since the same person that signed the document as a witness, signs it as the man that was supposed to have written the will. There is a huge close up of the will with the camera sweeping down from the top of the page to the middle. As the camera moves down, so do the viewers eyes as they read what is written on the page. There is a sort of sweeping sound effect mimicking the camera s movement. After the will has been signed, it goes back to the dripping sealing wax and then a seal is pressed down into it. There is, again, a close up of the seal being used and the sound effect is repeated. Since these sound effects would not occur in real life, they emphasis to the audience that the particular event they are heard with must be very important. Emphasis is given on an audio level as well as a visual level. The seal is lifted away to reveal the name of the family regarding the will. The next shot is of galloping horses, but only their legs are shown. There is a sense of urgency in this scene because of the speed of the horses and their grunts of exertion. Wilson starts by pointing out the racial inadequacies in society using the scene where Lymon and Boy Willie go to collect their wood, Me [Lymon] and Boy Willie got away but the sheriff got us. Say we was stealing wood. They shot me in my stomach (Wilson 37). The police assume because the men are black that they are stealing the wood. Discrimination, in the end, is the long build up of misunderstandings between people who at first glance seem to be unsimilar. This is shown by the incident with the wood. The police believe that Boy Willie and Lymon are stealing the wood, even though they were given permission to take some of the wood for themselves. By assuming that they are thieves, they draw a line between blacks and whites. They then spread this assumption to others who conclude the same thing which further strengthens the division. This leads to entire populations hating other populations from one misunderstanding. Hatred carries influence, and hatred is a powerful tool that Wilson shows that the whites dominate. Through the prostitute s perspective, Rossetti conveys that a loss of innocence can lead to regret through her use of biblical references, contrast of time and seasons, and evocative diction that helps augment her bitter tone of remorse. Firstly, the title is a reference to the myth of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman and ancestors of all human beings. The daughter of eve at first glance seems to represent the prostitute a female human. Upon further thinking, it is likely that the title connects to how all women are prone to temptation, much like how Eve was tempted to eat the apple. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially supported in the next line where the speaker describes the chilly night Beneath the comfortless cold moon; (Rossetti 3). This further enforces the negative connotation of night. This contrast between night and day further symbolizes the prostitute s loss of innocence and the remorse she feels. Furthermore, a similar scheme can be seen in the second stanza where the speaker contrasts the seasons of summer and winter. She recalls Oh it was summer when I slept,/ It s winter now I awaken. The documents show different beliefs and notions about European Colonialism drawing from the point of view of both its beneficiaries and its victims; out of the five documents three were written by people of European descent and two were written by indigenous people. Europeans, such as Rudyard Kipling, John Stuart Mill, and Lewis Cass, see colonialism as being a mutually beneficial relationship between Europeans and the indigenous people they encounter. While some indigenous people refuted European efforts of Westernization, others fought for the right to benefit economically and socially from colonialism, and argued that the Europeans were not keeping their promise to them. Discuss. It is not wrong to assume that the consequence of the reigns of Charles and James II was to lead England to be Tory for some time, at least and Anglican rather than Francophile and Catholic. Both Charles and James II had sympathies for Catholicism, and England had had a tense and problematic relationship with Roman Catholicism since the reign of Henry VIII. What Is The Theme Of Borders By Thomas King All the Borders Crossed in Thomas King s Borders Thomas King s short story Borders narrates the conflict occurring in North America, in which a Native American mom and her son become involved when she tries to cross the borders between Canada and U.S to visit her daughter Laetitia, but she denies to claim other citizenship than Blackfoot. Although the only border explicitly crossed is the geographical border separating both countries, the title s plurality suggests there is more than one single border present in the story. Due to being from different generations, the two siblings, do not share the same sense of belonging to the Blackfoot that the mother has, and therefore they lack the effort towards understanding her. Laetitia is especially reluctant towards the Blackfoot tradition, which can be appreciated in the dialogue: You can still see the mountain from here, my mother told Laetitia in Blackfoot. Lots of mountains in Salt Lake, Laetitia told her in English. (135) Laetitia does not embrace her Blackfoot identity, as she is not willing to speak in Blackfoot and eventually ends up moving to the U.S. As Gruber argues, King s depiction of the scenario amalgamates a universal teenage disinterest in traditional values with more specifically Native issue of the precarious nature of the oral tradition (357).
