Maximum Ride Reflection
Maximum Ride saving the world and other extreme sports
In the book maximum Ride saving the world and other extreme sports, max the main character learns
a lesson about family and how and what they do for you. Throughout the book max begins to
understand the importance of family and how to let them in your life, to help get rid of stress and
loneliness.
In the beginning of the book Maximum Ride max does not know that family is the most important
thing in life so she is feeling lonely and stressed. One specific example that shows this is max your
way out of line fang said furiously there is no way he is. Coming with us Fang said. He saved our lives
and they were going to kill him max told fang. good fang said. he tried to kill us a hundred times .
Max let the person who almost killed her fang and the rest of the flock come with them. And max does
not see the big deal. Another specific example that shows this:. the one think we have is each other .
the one thing we can depend on, no matter what. We have to... talk about stuff. I would pretty much
rather have been torn apart by wild animals. I like it better when you don t talk (22) Max is saying that
to the person she loves the person who has always been there for her who cares about her. So why is
she telling him to stop talking. Lastly a specific example that shows this:
so what s wrong with you. i found this picture of gassy. In Dr. martinez s office. I am not the leader for
nothing. I mean, i m the oldest, smart, strong, fast and determined. I m the decision maker. (33) Max
know she is the leader and is the one to make the calls but she might not want to be the leader all the
time. As seen above these are just some of the reasons that max does not know that family is the most
important thing in life. In the middle of the book max starts to learn that family is the most important
thing in life because it motivates you to do things for them. Max wants fang to stay because she needs
someone to talk to. One example of this is when max said he was my best friend, my right hand man,
the one who always had my back. He d die to save me. And I would throw myself in front of a train
for him without a second s thought. (59)

Krypton Research Paper
Krypton, the home planet of Superman and the radioactive material, kryptonite... Wait. Wrong
krypton. The krypton we are talking about is the kind you find on the periodic table, and even in many
lighting products, such as gas lasers. Although it is not a planet and can not quite stop the powers of
Superman, the element krypton has some pretty super qualities of its own.
History
Krypton was founded by the Scottish and English chemists, Sir William Ramsay and Morris William
Travers on May 30, 1898 ( The Element Krypton, n.d.). Their goal was to find noble gas elements in
the last unknown 0.05% of air by liquefying and evaporating air (Newton, 2010). Ramsay and Travers
were able to liquefy it by cooling the elements, primarily oxygen, nitrogen and argon, in air to the
point that they changed into a liquid state (around 320.42°F) (Newton, 2010). However, the air
warmed and cause the evaporation of the three main elements, resulting in the discovery of not only
krypton, but additionally xenon and neon (Newton, 2010).
Physical Description Krypton, atomic symbol of Kr, received its name from the Greek word kryptos,
meaning hidden (Newton, 2010). This name is quite fitting seeing as the element is a colorless,
odorless, and tasteless gas ( Krypton, 2007) at room temperature ( The Element ... Show more content

( Krypton, 2007). To put the small percentage into perspective, there are about 8,200 argon atoms,
184,000 oxygen atoms and 685,000 nitrogen atoms for every one krypton atom ( Krypton Element
Facts, n.d.). Krypton is formed in the Earth s crust when radioactive elements, such as uranium, are
broken down, and it is then harvested by liquefying and evaporating air, the same technique in which
it had been discovered (Newton,

Negative Essay On Donald Trump
In 1988, Donald Trump has first considered running for President, but unfortunately he was in debt so
it would ve been hard to do so. In 2000, was the only other time he ran. Trump announced his
candidacy under the Reform Party, but only got about 15000 votes in California. 2004, He considered
a presidential bid in 2004, but ultimately decided not to due to his new show called The Apprentice. In
2012, Many polls start showing that Donald Trump is more popular than Mitt Romney, although he
doesn t run, his endorsement of Mitt Romney was valuable, and Trump has also been criticized by his
attacks on President Obama s birthplace/certificate. Finally, in July 2015, he formally announces
would run for presidency as a Republican. He became the official nominee on July 19, 2016 with his
famous slogan Make America Great Again. . Finally, December 20, 2016, Donald Trump was
announced to be the next president of America.
Everyday we hear new news about President Trump, how he is ruining America and is the worst
president , that he should be removed from the white house, many has even threaten and even tried to
have the president kill because of these accusation. Many are blinded by what the news have to say,
but they don t realize that the only on the news are horrible things that happen in our lives. News
report mainly focuses on the daily deaths of people, the destructions that hurricanes have left of Puerto
Rico, the destruction of Mexico because of the earthquake. There s

Individual Differences Among People Are What Defines The...
Individual differences among people are what defines the boundaries of personality. Personality
psychology discusses emotionality with general focuses on its involvement with the emotional mind
and its portrayal in the outside world. According to the literature, emotionality includes a variety of
contexts, almost exclusively referring to the social relationships and maturation of children and
adolescents. Often in the discussions on emotionality, there is a connection to the Big Five trait,
neuroticism. In this account, a comparative approach to both the biological perspective and the
evolutionary perspective will be assessed, as well as an evaluation of the trait evident in my personal
life. Ultimately, the intent of this report is to adequately define the trait and its relevance to personality
psychology, while also mentioning the theoretical and empirical literature of the development of the
trait in individuals. It will also discuss the maturation of the trait within myself and its connection to
the biological and evolutionary perspectives in respect to the views and applications of the trait
currently in use in the field of psychology.
Trait Definition As with many terms in the field of psychology, the operational definition for
emotionality is unclear, yet there are many themes that have expressed a general consensus for the
trait. Some definitions propose a connection of emotionality with arousal. Others have determined that
it is the

Female Genital Mutilation ( Fgm )
INTRODUCTION
Female genital cutting (also known as female genital mutilation) is one of the most prevalent
violations of the human rights of women in the world. As of 2010, 100 to 140 million female bodied
people were living with mutilated genitalia. According to the United Nations, Female genital
mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for
non medical reasons. Female genital cutting is a practice that is generally directed at female bodied
people under the age of 18. International institutions such as the United Nations call it a violation of
the rights of the child... [a violation of] the rights to health, security and physical integrity of the
person, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life
when the procedure results in death.
It is a practice that has been proven to not be effectively combatted by international legislation,
national legislation, human rights advocacy, or educational programs. However, human beings operate
based on cultural and social norms. Female genital cutting is a practice that is enforced by social and
cultural norms in the places where it is common. Thus, one of the most effective methods of
combatting FGC involves community based organizations, which must work together to create norm
based social change in order to alter the cultural beliefs that allow FGC to endure and spread, thereby
eliminating or curbing the practice.

Xuanzang Dharma Master Sparknotes
Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who performed a historic pilgrimage to India in search of
sutras , dharma and the sacred traces of the Buddha . He undertook this journey at a most tumultuous
time; when the Tang dynasty was at war with the Turks. Due to the restrictions on border crossing, his
expedition to India in 629 A.D was very difficult. Xuanzang, however, did not experience a break in
his resolve and successfully completed his journey.
Several decades after Xuanzang returned from India, his disciples Huili and Yanzong wrote his
biography. Based on oral accounts from their Dharma Master and their own observations of his life
and vocation in China, they constructed his experiences on paper. Since the primary source of the ...

The letter which the king of Gaochang wrote for Yabgu Khan is particularly enlightening concerning
the Chinese encounters with Central Asia. The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the
powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences
which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma
Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan
and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your
humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very
much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk;
perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t
perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were
attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it
represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when
conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Yabgu
Khan was presented with five hundred bolts of damask as a sign of goodwill.

The Real Life Example Of Shared Knowledge And Personal...
How do you gain shared knowledge? Let us take a cake for example; the cake is made up of many
different ingredients. A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to make the cake
step by step. Looking at this shared knowledge shapes your personal knowledge and next time you
might not need the recipe because the recipe would be part of your own personal knowledge. If shared
knowledge is knowledge that has been received from people or sources around you then personal
knowledge is knowledge that is gained directly through firsthand experience or observation .
Shared knowledge usually shapes personal knowledge. Even when an inexperienced cook has a
recipe, they might still not be able to make a good cake. Looking at this example we can see that the
shared knowledge being the recipe can shape the personal knowledge of both the cooks and because
the experienced cook has more personal knowledge, he is able to come up with a better cake than the
inexperienced cook.
Let use an example from cooking to illustrate how shared knowledge can shape personal knwledge.

Another real life example of shared knowledge shaping personal knowledge is the way Indian people
eat garlic and nuts during the winter, as they claim that eating nuts and garlic keeps the body warmer
than usual. This has been shared knowledge in the Indian culture for a very long time and has been
passed down from generation to generation shaping the peoples personal knowledge because people
learn how to keep themselves warm during the cold season. This has also been scientifically proven
and research has concluded that nuts and garlic can insulate the body from

An Inquiry Into The Nature And Causes Of The Wealth Of...
Management has not always been the way it is as of today. There were many people that warped and
shaped the ideals of management throughout history. A few of those people are Adam Smith, Henry
Fayol, Mary Parker Follett, and Henry Gantt. We see many of their principles and theories in modern
management techniques. I have personally seen their effects in my management experiences. Another
company that has great management ideals is Zappos.
The Industrial Revolution began around 1760. Shortly after in 1776 Adam Smith published his book,
An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. This book affects the Industrial
Revolution, as well today s modern economics. Adam smith is known as, the father of economics.

I think this is a major reason why he felt so strongly that free trade benefits the market and everyone
for that matter. This concept applies today. For the most part, the United States trades with many
different countries. The trading helps make products much cheaper as well as production much higher
because people focus on what they re good at.
Although Adam is great there are others that have impacted the way business s run throughout history.
Some of them even have an impact on today s society. One of these people that had an impact on
management thought in history is Henry Fayol. An online article by The Mind Tools Editorial team
says that, Fayol, and others like him, are responsible for building the foundations of modern
management theory. Fayol had these fourteen principles of management; one of them being just like
Adam s ideas, the division of work. Another is the Unity of Command; this is Fayol s idea that
employees should have only one direct supervisor. Another two are Equity and Stability of Tenure of
Personnel. Equity is his concept that managers should be fair to staff at all times, both maintaining
discipline as necessary and acting with kindness where appropriate. Stability of Tenure of Personnel is
his principle that managers should try to keep employee turnover at a low rate. Although the last two
are considered common sense today,

Essay On Mercury Pollution
Mercury pollution occurs from industrial sources such as mining, power plants and coal combustion
centers. When mercury is released from the sources, it can travel halfway around the world before it
ever enters into the waterways and contaminates the fish that we then eat. Through the trade of those
fish, people in every continent are at risk for mercury pollution. Newborns are also at risk of mercury
pollution due to the consummation of fish by their mothers, thousands of babies are at risk every year
of impaired motor skills ( Reduce Mercury Pollution ). In order to reduce the pollutants of mercury we
need to implement a policy to clean up sites already contaminated, limit the amounts discharged into
the water and provide consumers on tips to reduce their exposure to it. My first step in decreasing the
amount of mercury is to focus on the areas that are already contaminated. They would priority since
the mercury would have had time to sit and settle and we would want to clean it up before it causes
further harm. Some of the sites would be cleaned up under the EPA s superfund policy. One example
of a site that is being cleaned up is the Carson River Mercury Site in Nevada. This is the former sites
of mills and mining that have contaminated the soil, waterways and fish over a 50 mile stretch.
Nevada at one time recommended that limited consumption of fish and duck from the river should be
in effect. State and federal actions are being performed in order to excavate and remove the
contaminated soils and they were sent to a mineral resource recovery facility. That action has already
reduced the amount of exposure during the monitoring period and they plan to add a layer of clean
topsoil to reduce the exposure to any mercury soil left behind. They have also worked in sampling 26
different developments for mercury affects and levels. They are working on figuring out the cost and
benefit of cleaning up the rivers sediment to try to remove the mercury from the river, wetlands and
reservoir. In the meantime short term cleanup will be done in order to prevent threats to the
population( Carson River Mercury Site ). The second step in my policy to reduce the mercury levels
would be to limit the amount of discharge

Coming Of Age
Many children are forced to begin their own life journey without an adult guiding them mainly
because of traumatic events or life threatening circumstances. Coming of age is a time of adversity
and misfortune in a child s life. Various unknown obstacles become inevitable throughout a child s life
which causes innocent children to rapidly mature, forcing them to become their own support system
and feeling the need to overcome their situation in order to become an adult. On the other hand,
obstacles are not the only thing that a child will experience throughout their adventures. Through the

Taking its inspiration from shogun diktats, ideas of ie evolved in the Meiji period with an 1898 civil
code that set out hierarchy and lineage. And ie morphed again as Japan lurched towards democracy in
the aftermath of the second world war. In so doing, this exceptional extended kinship group a deep
embrace of a network of interconnected individuals striving for common purpose ensures it remains
relevant. It is from this flex and sway that the concept of ie derives its greatest strength.
A SINGLE CHARACTER THAT CONFERS SO MUCH
How best to define ie? Researchers conceptualise and interpret this simple kanji character, 家, in a
variety of ways. The Encyclopedia of Japan sets out its stall in a predictably matter of fact manner,
stating that ie is defined as household. The word is used for a traditional primary unit of social
organization , this encyclopedia states. Sometimes translated as family, ie can arguably include
extended family and even non family members, so the word household comes closer to conveying the
Japanese concept of ie , the encyclopedia states.

E Learning is trying to provide a more individualized, self paced, self directed learning experience
(Clark). A survey by a Sociology Professor at CSU Northridge showed that students in his virtual class
performed 20% better than students in his traditional class (Clark). On the other hand, issues
concerned with E Learning includes the fact that students may not be as motivated since, another

The IT Background of the Issue
Students can sign up for courses and choose a format of learning that suits them best; video,
interactive tutorials, hyperlinked textbooks or face to face group sessions. (US NEWS) Quizzes are
given occasionally to ensure that students are learning the material. There are four different types of E
Learning; Knowledge databases (step by step instructions, few explanations and questions), Online
Support (Chat rooms, online bulletin boards, email or live messaging), Asynchronous training (Self
paced learning based on CD s, Networks, internet or the intranet) and Synchronous training (Internet
using Real Time communicate directly with the instructor) (Howstuffworks).
Television was one of the first medias that E Learning was available by but since it was too expensive
and the information was too dry, people started to lose interest (Lyon). Videotapes then evolved and
were used in school classrooms (Lyon). When the Internet was invented, E Learning used it to allow
students to work with tutors from various places around the world. Students can work at their own
pace thus giving them time to do other activities. Even though there is an issue with bandwidth, there
are other optional types of media on the Internet, which uses less bandwidth than others.
The Global market for corporate E Learning is expected to grow 27% annually (McGee) and it is also
expected that

The Interaction Between Clergy And Laity In Richard IV
The interaction between clergy and laity is also discussed a fair bit in the subtext of the source.
William Longchamps, bishop of Ely, and chancellor in Richard s stead, took castles and titles away
from the men who held them and hand[ed] them over to foreigners and unknown men (31). This
shows that the hold he has over the land with the king gone (i.e. clergy could have a firm grasp on the
government). The only other person to do this is John (the king s brother), who takes the castles away
from the men William assigned and returned them to their rightful castellans. It shows that the power
held by William and John to be about equal, since they both do the same things. Next, the clergy and
laity were against the chancellor who was hated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, monks were not supposed to have (although they did) interactions with the outside world, but as
Richard (the chronicler) mentions the monks live secluded ... and yet you know everything that is
done in the world as soon as it takes places, and sometimes ... in advance (2) . This illustrates that not
all monks or monasteries followed their respective Rule fully. Some might have needed to trade, to
confer blessings, or pray in the church that the laity attend putting them in close proximity to the laity.
Monks also elected their future bishop without the assistance of the secular clergy (57). This
elucidates that the secular clergy generally got involved in the elections of clergymen, possibly putting
in their own men for the position, demonstrating that the secular clergy had little to no say in the
election, even when they were involved. The secular clergy opposed him [the chosen bishop], the
monks obtained him (57). Lastly, the bishop of Chester out of hate for religious orders cast the monks
out of Coventry (69). One must first ask: Why is this man a part of a religious order if he hates them?
and next: What was the outcome of that

accosting her culture, family and distinct memories. It is evident that food is universal and that using
food as a metaphor will grasp the attention of the reader.Which is seen when she describes her father

is to simplify a the complexity of the situation. In addition, it is evident that food is a way for Bub to
keep his traditions alive and also to pass them on to his family. For example, the author describes how
their guests [will] be hungry because everyone who comesover is hungry: for home, for family, for the
old smells and touches and tastes (Abu Jaber ). As a result, hunger is used to represent their yarning
for culture aspects which is no longer present in their everyday life. She goes on to describe
immigration to be like a law of nature: Grow up, go to America, which once again relates to her family

to remain connected to their roots. The persistent use of food as central theme is also creating feelings

These could be down to variances in the control of controlled variables between groups or different
methods or techniques used to control them. A clear and easily understandable variable that would
affect this mean would be the rate of the swirl or vigour with which it was carried out, for example if a
greater rate of swirling was employed by one group, this would produce a higher value and thus this
value would affect the overall mean, as a swirl pattern with more vigour provides more kinetic energy
to the enzyme and substrate, thus increasing the chance of successful collisions, which subsequently
increases the rate of reaction, biasing the results. Another inconsistency would be the accuracy to
which the minute time period was observed. Depending on the methods employed by each individual
and thus their reaction time and dexterity (example of this would be the time taken to place the bung
in the flask, which could vary from person to person), the results may vary as the gas volume may
increase or decrease depending on the person or even the trial. On this basis, I do believe that a further

traditions that was impose on her by her father combining a tragic story twisted with a lack of
chronological manner. The story that is make up of five parts without a chronological or, all
conflicting with the past and the present. The author Faulkner uses a lot foreshadows to prepare the

The American Society Of Criminology Essay
The American Society Of Criminology
AHHHHhhhhh! I let out a girlish scream and squirmed as shivers went strait up my spine. I was glued
to the latest episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, a show that I have watched religiously since
its debut. Criminology is something that has always fascinated me, and is a career that I hope to
pursue in the future as an FBI agent. I frequently surf the web looking for short stories to read about
different criminal cases and to find information about job opportunities and internships. One day I
found a website of an organization that studied crime independently of the government. I was
immediately intrigued by the organization, and began reading about the American Society of

Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg
Introduction
An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over
a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a
device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by
the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy
individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial
depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular
repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which
is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted
by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is
detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a
linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an
influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to
contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex
represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole.
This action normally takes place at the highest amplitude in the complex,

The Midwife s Tale By Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
This generation of women, may it be young or old, are fortunate to live in a country where you can be
anything, do anything, and say anything that men can. Although in theory the playing fields are still
not completely even, we as a nation have made some substantial progress in women s rights. Just a
few hundred years ago, women livered mundane lives and rarely got to speak up for themselves. In the
book, The Midwife s Tale by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, it follows the life of Martha Ballard through the
use of her own diary. Martha Ballard captures the lives of common women in the Early Republic Era
by providing an authentic record of the role women played in their communities throughout the
developmental years of the United States. Some back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what makes Mrs. Ballard s diary so important. Her journal demonstrates how she chose an
occupation that gives her complete authority over her own actions and career choices, which was rare
in the Early Republic Era. Her being a midwife let her dictate the jobs that she did and did not accept.
Martha gets the honor of showing the world that women of her time did all they could to be as
independent as possible. In The Midwife s Tale, Laurel Ulrich explains, She gardened, sewed, cared
for her grandchildren, nursed the sick, laid out the dead, and delivered babies (276). She was a woman
of many talents. Martha lived by a value that she expects the same respect in return and undertakes
full authority over the responsibilities she considers to be her own.
An important quote that gives the newer generation an idea of the common women at this time is from
the March 1804 chapter. Historian Laurel Ulrich quotes, The mixing of governours in a household, or
subordinating or uniting of two masters, or two dames under one roof, doth fall out most times, to be a
matter of much unquietness to all parties (281). This is a quote from 1624, an early English essay on
marriage. This quote is in regards to the clear annoyance Martha journaled about in her March entries
regarding her husband. Martha feels she alone should get the right to manage all the female workers
who enter their

Racial Tension And Police Brutality
Racial tension and police brutality are the most controversial topics in the United States today. As a
society, we never really know what to do with racism. The increase tensions between the African
American community and Caucasian community has been at an ultimate high recently. The
contemporary events in places such as Missouri, Florida, Chicago, etc. have highlighted the
seriousness of these issues.
In Ferguson, Missouri, 18 year old African American male Michael Brown was shot and killed by
police officer Darren Wilson. The incident involving Brown created a critical environment in
Ferguson and became a dangerous and controversial time in America. The events following the initial
incident impacted Missouri significantly. Following this incident, a ripple effect of police brutality
incidents took place. The question Is the law is really doing their job and protecting us? Was created.
The issue of police brutality is a significant issue within America today. I strongly think that this issue
is an important issue because as civilians, individuals should feel protected by their law system and
officers. But also, police officers should not be anxious to arrest individuals and/or patrol communities
because of tensions created within the community. Specifically, since Michael Brown s death police
officers become apprehensive to do their job because of the split between civilians and the police force
during this time. One incident that created fear, anxiousness, and anger

Introduction Many people around the world struggle with mental illnesses, like depression and
anxiety. With these mental illnesses, comes a stigma. A stigma is the extreme disapproval of a person
on socially characteristic grounds that are perceived, and serve to distinguish them, from other
members of a society. Those with these disabilities are usually frowned upon, because of their
differences; people with mental illnesses are also often perceived as dangerous and insane by society.
Although there is a few who are dangerous, most of them are not, and they are no different than the

Therefore, the average human does not have much knowledge on mental illnesses and how they affect
the patient s life. Doing this would lessen society s fear of those with mental illnesses and therefore,
lessen the stigma. Another solution would be to be more compassionate and caring towards those with
mental illnesses. These people are already struggling a lot, and could use the love and respect they
deserve. Also, getting those struggling professional help can lessen the chances of those with mental

The Dual Coding Theory Of The Human Mind And Its Functions
Assignment introduction
Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, including how it influences our
behaviour. Cognitive psychology is the study of human mental processes and their role in thinking,
feeling and behaving. It studies processes like attention, language use, memory, thinking, problem
solving, perception and creativity. Memory is the mental capacity to retain and revive events, facts,
impressions etc or recall and recognise previous experiences. We can remember information for
seconds, hours, weeks, months or years after the physical stimuli that was present has ceased to occur

Bower studied the effect of creating a visual image to assist verbal recall. In one experiment, the
participants were given out 100 different cards, one at a time which each had two unrelated words on
it , like cat and tree . The participants either had to remember the pair or create a visual scene in which
both objects were featured. When the participants were given a cued recall test (given the first of each
pair of words), the group who created a visual scene recalled 80% of the target words, whereas those
who did not remember an image could only recall 45%. It was proven that the images which were
more unusual were easier to remember, for example it would be better to visualise a cat living inside a
tree, rather than a cat climbing up a tree as the first scene is more unlikely and bizarre.
Experimental Hypothesis:
Individuals are more likely to recall words if it is given in picture form rather than just the word
shown alone.
Null Hypothesis:
Being shown images compared to just being showing the word does not change an individual s ability
to recall the word.
Method
The method of the study was to test whether being shown images to remember a word improves recall
of the given words in lab conditions.
Design
The design of this experiment was independent measures under lab conditions to ensure that the most
valid and comparable results were provided. Before the controlled experiment took

Durkheim And Weber s Theories Of Religion And Modernity
Emile Durkheim and Max Weber are two prominent philosophers whose theories unequivocally
differed on countless themes. The outlooks of Durkheim and Weber contrast however, their general
message in which they attempt to convey are of similar ideologies. When examining Durkheim and
the concept of sacred and profane, one would see how it parallels with Weber s notion of enchantment
and disenchantment. Their stances on religion correspond with each other and despite their distinct
conceptual frameworks and differing perspectives, Durkheim and Weber both offer profound
contributions to the concepts of religion and modernity. Durkheim and Weber both had distinct
theories as they expressed and conceptualized religion and it s impact to society in quite different
ways however, they somehow overall parallel each others theories. Durkheim observed religion in the
context of the integrated society and recognized its place in affecting the reasoning and conduct of
society.Max Weber saw religion as how it fortifies other social organizations. Weber suspected that the
religious belief setup contributed a social system that SUPPORTED the improvement of other social
organizations, like the economy. Weber is also addressing the shrinking hold of religion in modern
society. (Veugelers) This notionally theorizes that both philosophers acknowledge the importance of
religion as influencing and supporting society. As indicated by Durkheim, people consider religion to
be adding to the wellbeing

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Statistical evidences. ASD s gender proportion suggests that the autism is sex linked, and the statistical
evidence convincingly shows that genetic factors are playing key role in the prevalence of ASD. To
begin with, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) published the relationship between the number of autistic boys and girls. The
statistical evidence shows that boys are more inclined to become autistic than girls. CDC states that 1
in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls were identified as having ASD. This observation shows that ASD is
likely a sex linked inheritance. Sex liked inheritance is defined as a pattern of inheritance
characteristic of genes located on the sex chromosomes of organisms having a chromosomal
mechanism for sex determination (Sadava et al., 2014). If the ASD was sex linked inheritance, the
ratio between male and female exhibiting the phenotype would result in 3 to 1 under the normal curve.
The ratio between boy and girl is approximately 5 to 1, which shows that there is a strong association
between sex linked inheritance and ASD. For this reason, it is reasonable to conclude that ASD is
primarily influenced by the genetic factor, which is prenatal. On the other hand, some behavioral
psychiatrists would argue that the conclusion is inaccurately determined, since the genetic mutation
would not occur within a decade. As indicated in Appendix C: Table 1, the rate at which the number of
ASD children increase

The Consequences Of Video Game Violence In Video Games
Violence in video games is well known for toeing the line between entertainment and immorality. The
controversy began as early as 1976, when protestors destroyed an arcade game that revolved around
hitting human like creatures with a car. As computers grew more advanced in the next two decades,
video game violence became increasingly realistic ( Background of the Issue ). This prompted the
creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board, commonly abbreviated ESRB, in 1994 for
parents to make informed decisions regarding the content their children were exposed to. The 1999
shooting at Columbine High School fueled the debate further, drawing potential connections between
virtual violence and real world consequences ( Background of the Issue ). In the years following, laws
regarding the sale of video games with graphic violence sprouted up across the nation. Even the
Supreme Court was involved ( Background of the Issue ). Today, as many as 97% of US kids age 12
17 play video games, contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video game industry ( Violent Video
Games ). Critics of video game violence argue that it directly increases a person s violent behavior and
lowers their tendency to act for the benefit of others. Defenders of video game violence argue that
media coverage of video game violence is heavily biased, studies that link it to acts of violence are
flawed, and that video game violence is a harmless outlet for emotions of aggression. Critics of
violence in video games believe that it increases an adolescent s tendency toward violent actions.
Multiple credible organizations also view playing violent video games as a statistical detail affecting a
person s aggressive tendency. Over 98% of American pediatricians say that children and teens become
more aggressive when exposed to violent media such as a violent video game ( Violent Video Games
). The FBI uses an individual s violent video game history to assess the risk of a school shooting
threat. The American Psychological Association cites frequent violent video game exposure as a risk
factor that contributes to violence in teens ( Violent Video Games ). Some groups that are against
video game violence go as far as to list it as a primary cause

The Study of Uniformitarianism
The Study of Uniformitarianism The origin of life on Earth is a fundamental scientific question, but
we do not know as much as many biology textbooks would like you to believe. (Pigliucci)
Uniformitarianism is vital to the world of science. It is a geological doctrine. It states that the same
natural laws and processes that operate in the universe now, have always operated in the universe in
the past and apply everywhere in the universe. It assumes that geological processes have essentially
not changed today from those from the past which are unobservable. As present processes are thought
to explain all past events, the Uniformitarian slogan is the present is the key to the past .

In Lyell s time, most scientists still believed Earth had been shaped by rare and sudden events that
were unique to the past, so convincing people of his time was extremely difficult. Other scientists had
opinions on the theory of Uniformitarianism as well. In 1963, a geologist named Reijer Hookyas
decided to even further analyze Lyell s work. According to Hookyas, Lyell s uniformitarianism is a
family of four related propositions, not a single idea. None of these connotations requires another, and
they are not all equally inferred by uniformitarianism. The four related propositions are: Uniformity of
Law The laws of nature are constant across time and space. Uniformity of Methodology The
appropriate hypothesis for explaining the geological past are those with analogy today. Uniformity of
Kind Past and present causes are all of the same kind, have the same energy, and produce the same
effects. Uniformity of Degree Geological circumstances have remained the same over time. Stephen
Jay Gould s first scientific paper, Is uniformitarianism necessary? which was published in 1965,
reduced these four interpretations to two, methodological and substantive uniformitarianism.
(Hooykaas) Uniformitarianism was originally proposed in contrast to catastrophism, which states that
the distant past consisted of epochs of paroxysmal and

The Chernobyl Of Chernobyl Power Complex Essay
The Chernobyl Power Complex, located about 130 km north of Kiev, Ukraine, and about 20 km south
of the border with Belarus, consisted four RBMK 1000 nuclear reactors. The first two units were
constructed between 1970 and 1977, while the later were completed in 1983. The RBMK 1000 was a
Soviet designed and built graphite moderated pressure tube type reactor, using water as a coolant
which also provided the steam to drive the turbine. The graphite moderator is designed to slow down
neutrons to raise the efficiency of the fission process. The power of the reactor was controlled by
inserting or withdrawing control rods, which could absorb neurons and reduce the reactivity when
lowered into the moderator. The Chernobyl reactor 4 exploded on 26 April 1986 in a steam turbine
test, which was carried out to determine how long turbines would spin and supply power to the main
circulating pumps following a loss of main electrical power supply. A gradual reduction of power
output was needed in preparation for the test, but during the process the reactor went in an unintended
shutdown state, with a power output much lower than the requirement. To recover the reactor s power
level, operators decided to withdraw control rods manually, leading to an extremely unstable reactor
configuration. A series of following improper operations and the original designing flaws of the
reactor eventually resulted in a steam explosion. The first explosion released fission products to the
atmosphere and

Imp Case Analysis
1. Would a TNA be needed in this situation? Why or why not? If yes, who would you want to talk to?
Training Needs Analysis is a formal process required for the purpose of identifying the training gap
that is in existence and its related training need. Considering the IMP case analysis, training needs
analysis is required since there are different sectors within the organization which require an
individual to possess the necessary skills to perform the expected work within that department. In

management that it would be worth it?
As a way of training evaluation, I would suggest a one on one interview whereby every staff member
will be asked to carry out an activity with respect to the work being carried out in that respective
department of the organization. I would convince the top management that it would be

  • 2. Maximum Ride Reflection Maximum Ride saving the world and other extreme sports In the book maximum Ride saving the world and other extreme sports, max the main character learns a lesson about family and how and what they do for you. Throughout the book max begins to understand the importance of family and how to let them in your life, to help get rid of stress and loneliness. In the beginning of the book Maximum Ride max does not know that family is the most important thing in life so she is feeling lonely and stressed. One specific example that shows this is max your way out of line fang said furiously there is no way he is. Coming with us Fang said. He saved our lives and they were going to kill him max told fang. good fang said. he tried to kill us a hundred times . Max let the person who almost killed her fang and the rest of the flock come with them. And max does not see the big deal. Another specific example that shows this:. the one think we have is each other . the one thing we can depend on, no matter what. We have to... talk about stuff. I would pretty much rather have been torn apart by wild animals. I like it better when you don t talk (22) Max is saying that to the person she loves the person who has always been there for her who cares about her. So why is she telling him to stop talking. Lastly a specific example that shows this: so what s wrong with you. i found this picture of gassy. In Dr. martinez s office. I am not the leader for nothing. I mean, i m the oldest, smart, strong, fast and determined. I m the decision maker. (33) Max know she is the leader and is the one to make the calls but she might not want to be the leader all the time. As seen above these are just some of the reasons that max does not know that family is the most important thing in life. • 3. Krypton Research Paper Krypton, the home planet of Superman and the radioactive material, kryptonite... Wait. Wrong krypton. The krypton we are talking about is the kind you find on the periodic table, and even in many lighting products, such as gas lasers. Although it is not a planet and can not quite stop the powers of Superman, the element krypton has some pretty super qualities of its own. History Krypton was founded by the Scottish and English chemists, Sir William Ramsay and Morris William Travers on May 30, 1898 ( The Element Krypton, n.d.). Their goal was to find noble gas elements in the last unknown 0.05% of air by liquefying and evaporating air (Newton, 2010). Ramsay and Travers were able to liquefy it by cooling the elements, primarily oxygen, nitrogen and argon, in air to the point that they changed into a liquid state (around 320.42°F) (Newton, 2010). However, the air warmed and cause the evaporation of the three main elements, resulting in the discovery of not only krypton, but additionally xenon and neon (Newton, 2010). Physical Description Krypton, atomic symbol of Kr, received its name from the Greek word kryptos, meaning hidden (Newton, 2010). This name is quite fitting seeing as the element is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas ( Krypton, 2007) at room temperature ( The Element ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personality psychology discusses emotionality with general focuses on its involvement with the emotional mind and its portrayal in the outside world. According to the literature, emotionality includes a variety of contexts, almost exclusively referring to the social relationships and maturation of children and adolescents. Often in the discussions on emotionality, there is a connection to the Big Five trait, neuroticism. In this account, a comparative approach to both the biological perspective and the evolutionary perspective will be assessed, as well as an evaluation of the trait evident in my personal life. Ultimately, the intent of this report is to adequately define the trait and its relevance to personality psychology, while also mentioning the theoretical and empirical literature of the development of the trait in individuals. It will also discuss the maturation of the trait within myself and its connection to the biological and evolutionary perspectives in respect to the views and applications of the trait currently in use in the field of psychology. Female Genital Mutilation ( Fgm ) INTRODUCTION Female genital cutting (also known as female genital mutilation) is one of the most prevalent violations of the human rights of women in the world. As of 2010, 100 to 140 million female bodied people were living with mutilated genitalia. According to the United Nations, Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non medical reasons. Female genital cutting is a practice that is generally directed at female bodied people under the age of 18. International institutions such as the United Nations call it a violation of the rights of the child... [a violation of] the rights to health, security and physical integrity of the person, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life when the procedure results in death. It is a practice that has been proven to not be effectively combatted by international legislation, national legislation, human rights advocacy, or educational programs. However, human beings operate based on cultural and social norms. Female genital cutting is a practice that is enforced by social and cultural norms in the places where it is common. Thus, one of the most effective methods of combatting FGC involves community based organizations, which must work together to create norm based social change in order to alter the cultural beliefs that allow FGC to endure and spread, thereby eliminating or curbing the practice. ... The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk; perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to make the cake step by step. • 10. Essay On Mercury Pollution Mercury pollution occurs from industrial sources such as mining, power plants and coal combustion centers. When mercury is released from the sources, it can travel halfway around the world before it ever enters into the waterways and contaminates the fish that we then eat. Through the trade of those fish, people in every continent are at risk for mercury pollution. Newborns are also at risk of mercury pollution due to the consummation of fish by their mothers, thousands of babies are at risk every year of impaired motor skills ( Reduce Mercury Pollution ). In order to reduce the pollutants of mercury we need to implement a policy to clean up sites already contaminated, limit the amounts discharged into the water and provide consumers on tips to reduce their exposure to it. My first step in decreasing the amount of mercury is to focus on the areas that are already contaminated. They would priority since the mercury would have had time to sit and settle and we would want to clean it up before it causes further harm. Some of the sites would be cleaned up under the EPA s superfund policy. One example of a site that is being cleaned up is the Carson River Mercury Site in Nevada. This is the former sites of mills and mining that have contaminated the soil, waterways and fish over a 50 mile stretch. Nevada at one time recommended that limited consumption of fish and duck from the river should be in effect. State and federal actions are being performed in order to excavate and remove the contaminated soils and they were sent to a mineral resource recovery facility. That action has already reduced the amount of exposure during the monitoring period and they plan to add a layer of clean topsoil to reduce the exposure to any mercury soil left behind. They have also worked in sampling 26 different developments for mercury affects and levels. They are working on figuring out the cost and benefit of cleaning up the rivers sediment to try to remove the mercury from the river, wetlands and reservoir. In the meantime short term cleanup will be done in order to prevent threats to the population( Carson River Mercury Site ). A clear and easily understandable variable that would affect this mean would be the rate of the swirl or vigour with which it was carried out, for example if a greater rate of swirling was employed by one group, this would produce a higher value and thus this value would affect the overall mean, as a swirl pattern with more vigour provides more kinetic energy to the enzyme and substrate, thus increasing the chance of successful collisions, which subsequently increases the rate of reaction, biasing the results. Another inconsistency would be the accuracy to which the minute time period was observed. Depending on the methods employed by each individual and thus their reaction time and dexterity (example of this would be the time taken to place the bung in the flask, which could vary from person to person), the results may vary as the gas volume may increase or decrease depending on the person or even the trial. • 23. Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg Introduction An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole. This action normally takes place at the highest amplitude in the complex, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Midwife s Tale By Laurel Thatcher Ulrich This generation of women, may it be young or old, are fortunate to live in a country where you can be anything, do anything, and say anything that men can. Although in theory the playing fields are still not completely even, we as a nation have made some substantial progress in women s rights. Just a few hundred years ago, women livered mundane lives and rarely got to speak up for themselves. In the book, The Midwife s Tale by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, it follows the life of Martha Ballard through the use of her own diary. Martha Ballard captures the lives of common women in the Early Republic Era by providing an authentic record of the role women played in their communities throughout the developmental years of the United States. Her journal demonstrates how she chose an occupation that gives her complete authority over her own actions and career choices, which was rare in the Early Republic Era. Her being a midwife let her dictate the jobs that she did and did not accept. Martha gets the honor of showing the world that women of her time did all they could to be as independent as possible. In The Midwife s Tale, Laurel Ulrich explains, She gardened, sewed, cared for her grandchildren, nursed the sick, laid out the dead, and delivered babies (276). She was a woman of many talents. Martha lived by a value that she expects the same respect in return and undertakes full authority over the responsibilities she considers to be her own. An important quote that gives the newer generation an idea of the common women at this time is from the March 1804 chapter. Historian Laurel Ulrich quotes, The mixing of governours in a household, or subordinating or uniting of two masters, or two dames under one roof, doth fall out most times, to be a matter of much unquietness to all parties (281). This is a quote from 1624, an early English essay on marriage. This quote is in regards to the clear annoyance Martha journaled about in her March entries regarding her husband. As a society, we never really know what to do with racism. The increase tensions between the African American community and Caucasian community has been at an ultimate high recently. The contemporary events in places such as Missouri, Florida, Chicago, etc. have highlighted the seriousness of these issues. In Ferguson, Missouri, 18 year old African American male Michael Brown was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson. The incident involving Brown created a critical environment in Ferguson and became a dangerous and controversial time in America. The events following the initial incident impacted Missouri significantly. Following this incident, a ripple effect of police brutality incidents took place. The question Is the law is really doing their job and protecting us? Was created. The issue of police brutality is a significant issue within America today. I strongly think that this issue is an important issue because as civilians, individuals should feel protected by their law system and officers. But also, police officers should not be anxious to arrest individuals and/or patrol communities because of tensions created within the community. Specifically, since Michael Brown s death police officers become apprehensive to do their job because of the split between civilians and the police force during this time. Bower studied the effect of creating a visual image to assist verbal recall. In one experiment, the participants were given out 100 different cards, one at a time which each had two unrelated words on it , like cat and tree . The participants either had to remember the pair or create a visual scene in which both objects were featured. When the participants were given a cued recall test (given the first of each pair of words), the group who created a visual scene recalled 80% of the target words, whereas those who did not remember an image could only recall 45%. It was proven that the images which were more unusual were easier to remember, for example it would be better to visualise a cat living inside a tree, rather than a cat climbing up a tree as the first scene is more unlikely and bizarre. Experimental Hypothesis: Individuals are more likely to recall words if it is given in picture form rather than just the word shown alone. Null Hypothesis: Being shown images compared to just being showing the word does not change an individual s ability to recall the word. Method The method of the study was to test whether being shown images to remember a word improves recall of the given words in lab conditions. The outlooks of Durkheim and Weber contrast however, their general message in which they attempt to convey are of similar ideologies. When examining Durkheim and the concept of sacred and profane, one would see how it parallels with Weber s notion of enchantment and disenchantment. Their stances on religion correspond with each other and despite their distinct conceptual frameworks and differing perspectives, Durkheim and Weber both offer profound contributions to the concepts of religion and modernity. Durkheim and Weber both had distinct theories as they expressed and conceptualized religion and it s impact to society in quite different ways however, they somehow overall parallel each others theories. Durkheim observed religion in the context of the integrated society and recognized its place in affecting the reasoning and conduct of society.Max Weber saw religion as how it fortifies other social organizations. Weber suspected that the religious belief setup contributed a social system that SUPPORTED the improvement of other social organizations, like the economy. • 31. Autism Spectrum Disorder Statistical evidences. ASD s gender proportion suggests that the autism is sex linked, and the statistical evidence convincingly shows that genetic factors are playing key role in the prevalence of ASD. To begin with, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the relationship between the number of autistic boys and girls. The statistical evidence shows that boys are more inclined to become autistic than girls. CDC states that 1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls were identified as having ASD. This observation shows that ASD is likely a sex linked inheritance. Sex liked inheritance is defined as a pattern of inheritance characteristic of genes located on the sex chromosomes of organisms having a chromosomal mechanism for sex determination (Sadava et al., 2014). If the ASD was sex linked inheritance, the ratio between male and female exhibiting the phenotype would result in 3 to 1 under the normal curve. The ratio between boy and girl is approximately 5 to 1, which shows that there is a strong association between sex linked inheritance and ASD. For this reason, it is reasonable to conclude that ASD is primarily influenced by the genetic factor, which is prenatal. On the other hand, some behavioral psychiatrists would argue that the conclusion is inaccurately determined, since the genetic mutation would not occur within a decade. As indicated in Appendix C: Table 1, the rate at which the number of ASD children increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The controversy began as early as 1976, when protestors destroyed an arcade game that revolved around hitting human like creatures with a car. As computers grew more advanced in the next two decades, video game violence became increasingly realistic ( Background of the Issue ). This prompted the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board, commonly abbreviated ESRB, in 1994 for parents to make informed decisions regarding the content their children were exposed to. The 1999 shooting at Columbine High School fueled the debate further, drawing potential connections between virtual violence and real world consequences ( Background of the Issue ). In the years following, laws regarding the sale of video games with graphic violence sprouted up across the nation. Even the Supreme Court was involved ( Background of the Issue ). Today, as many as 97% of US kids age 12 17 play video games, contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video game industry ( Violent Video Games ). Critics of video game violence argue that it directly increases a person s violent behavior and lowers their tendency to act for the benefit of others. Defenders of video game violence argue that media coverage of video game violence is heavily biased, studies that link it to acts of violence are flawed, and that video game violence is a harmless outlet for emotions of aggression. Critics of violence in video games believe that it increases an adolescent s tendency toward violent actions. Multiple credible organizations also view playing violent video games as a statistical detail affecting a person s aggressive tendency. Over 98% of American pediatricians say that children and teens become more aggressive when exposed to violent media such as a violent video game ( Violent Video Games ). The FBI uses an individual s violent video game history to assess the risk of a school shooting threat. Other scientists had opinions on the theory of Uniformitarianism as well. In 1963, a geologist named Reijer Hookyas decided to even further analyze Lyell s work. According to Hookyas, Lyell s uniformitarianism is a family of four related propositions, not a single idea. None of these connotations requires another, and they are not all equally inferred by uniformitarianism. The four related propositions are: Uniformity of Law The laws of nature are constant across time and space. Uniformity of Methodology The appropriate hypothesis for explaining the geological past are those with analogy today. Uniformity of Kind Past and present causes are all of the same kind, have the same energy, and produce the same effects. The Chernobyl Of Chernobyl Power Complex Essay The Chernobyl Power Complex, located about 130 km north of Kiev, Ukraine, and about 20 km south of the border with Belarus, consisted four RBMK 1000 nuclear reactors. The first two units were constructed between 1970 and 1977, while the later were completed in 1983. The RBMK 1000 was a Soviet designed and built graphite moderated pressure tube type reactor, using water as a coolant which also provided the steam to drive the turbine. The graphite moderator is designed to slow down neutrons to raise the efficiency of the fission process. The power of the reactor was controlled by inserting or withdrawing control rods, which could absorb neurons and reduce the reactivity when lowered into the moderator. The Chernobyl reactor 4 exploded on 26 April 1986 in a steam turbine test, which was carried out to determine how long turbines would spin and supply power to the main circulating pumps following a loss of main electrical power supply. A gradual reduction of power output was needed in preparation for the test, but during the process the reactor went in an unintended shutdown state, with a power output much lower than the requirement. To recover the reactor s power level, operators decided to withdraw control rods manually, leading to an extremely unstable reactor configuration.
