Alpha Fraternity Analysis
Since the beginning of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Men have lived up to the
high standards the fraternity has set for its members. Alpha Men have uplifted their communities,
empowered and motivated African Americans and have marched onward and upward towards the
light. Memorable and impactful leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and W.E.B. Dubois are some
examples of some of the qualities of Alpha Men. However, what sets the Rho Nu Chapter of Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated apart from other chapters and the organization as a whole is their
relentless pursuit of perfection. The members of the Rho Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorporated are never satisfied and are always looking for ways to improve and do more. Essential

Furthermore, because of C.A.L.C., my flaws have been exposed and highlighted. As a result I've
been able to make tremendous gains in my mentality, attention to detail, thoughtfulness and in my
professional skills. I expect this growth, but not necessarily pressure, to continue if I am able to
become a member of the Rho Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In addition,
if I am able to become a member, my goals will always be pushed and expanded past any types of
limits I previously set. Being a part of a network and brotherhood of men who have ambitious goals
and are supportive of one another will force me to keep pushing the envelope of my ambitions. With
all that said, the most important personal gain I can get from Rho Nu is a brotherhood of men with
similar background, ambitions and interests in the African American community that I can truly call
my brothers. I'm not even a member of Rho Nu but have already seen the type of support and care
the members have for one another just by the amount of time and attention they have given

Designing The Cd Package Design
CD Package Design
I was inspired by watercolor portraits and CD packaging designs from other students. I decided to
incorporate this idea into the CD package design. Throughout the CD Package, I added a faded
textured in the background of the design. Within the background on the back panel, I added a
transparent photograph of a cricket to keep consistent with the title of the album name. Then, added
paint splatters and rendered them to make the model as a recognizable subject for the cover. In
addition, I added the song titles and an excerpt inside the front sleeve of the cover. Furthermore, I
used three colors: cerulean blue, chartreuse green, and indigo purple throughout the project. Lastly, I
added a barcode, a record label logo, and fictitious information to make the entire CD package look
realistic.
Typography Calendars
For the month of May, I created a calendar page using Franklin Gothic typeface and added different
shades of green and a beige color for the background in the calendar. I expanded the word "May"
and composed the days of the month and weeks into the word itself. I also included the history of
Franklin Gothic and added "Franklin Gothic" at the bottom of the composition. Lastly, I added
"2015" on top of the bottom base to complete the calendar.
For the month of October, I used the font Times New Roman and used different shades of the color
red throughout the whole calendar. Instead of using a standard calendar outline, I decided to add the
days,

Greek Hazing Research Paper
Hazing in the Greek Life
Life flipped upside down for Tucker Hipps when he did not have enough money to buy breakfast for
his fraternity brothers one morning. September 22, 2014 Tucker Hipps was found dead after a
fraternity run. Not only was this a traumatic experience for the campus of Clemson University, this
devastating news hit my families heart's real hard. Tucker was apart of the Sigma Phi Epsilon ,and
he was participating in an early morning group activity when things went bad. Tucker was last seen
at the bridge, and it was reported he missed breakfast( WSPA staff). With investigations still going
on with Tucker Hipps death, evidence is becoming more prominent. Clemson University crowds

The consequences for committing hazing in the Greek life can be life changing. Seen on a webpage
of anti–hazing laws, the South Carolina law for consequences for hazing states, " Once an
investigation has been closed with evidence of people committing the act, the student can be
dismissed, expelled, suspended, or punished by the schools president..."(South Carolina). Depending
on the seriousness of the event practiced and the leniency of the school, the school that the people
commit hazing at can handle the situations differently. Also, the repercussions of hazing are going to
be different for the student committing hazing and the student being hazed. This is important to
think about when hanging out with your fraternity or sorority because tragic events to one another
can be prevented. Peyton Arnett is a high school student ready to take on Greek life when she goes
to college. Peyton states, "When headed to my sorority, I have to pay a heavy fee to be apart of this
group. I am terrified of the risk factor of hazing because I could get caught up into the acts. Then not
only am I paying for my dues to be in the sisterhood but I would be paying for a lawyer to help me"
(Arnett). This statement turns into reality for many students at

My Experience Of My Life In A Sorority
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be in a sorority. I have always had this
image of what a sorority girl was in my head. They were the pretty, stuck up, and rude girls. I didn't
want to be involved with drama and hold girl's hands in pictures. I just wasn't that girl. My best
friend joined a sorority and she changed but not for the better. She became one of those girls who
only thought about herself and her appearance. I wanted to focus on school and making friends, not
partying every weekend and caring about my outfit for that night.
As I started to tell people where I was going to college almost everyone asked, "Are you going to
rush?". I explained to them that I didn't think I would fir in or see any positive outcomes out of it
other than getting into parties. One day, a girl that attended Washington State University, asked the
same question that everyone else had been asking. When I told her no and my reasoning she was
shocked that I thought of a sorority in that way. "You have been watching way too many movies
girl". She started to talk about her experience being in a sorority. One of the main things that stuck
out to me was the girls who really weren't stuck up or full of themselves. Of course, would always
be a few but for the most part she said they were genuine people that cared about each other. We
talked about how it isn't all about partying and how a lot of the houses are strict about grades. Grade
checks are prominent throughout the

Jen was moved into the Associate Director role this year. Along with previous responsibilities, this
new position brought new ones. Jen continues to oversee SIT marketing and continues to work

Clicking heels travel across the brick path leading to a stairway. A doorman awaited us at the top of
the stairs; I made my way through the ample wooden doors. There was a table with an American and
Missouri flag on each end holding our nametags. There was one name that was absent, the First
Lady Georganne Nixon who is an alumni of Kappa Alpha Theta at The University of Missouri. She
was kind enough to invite our chapter into her home, also known as The Governor's Mansion in
Jefferson City, Missouri. Unfortunately, on the day of the party, the First Lady notified us that she

stress and everything that was going on, I was awarded with a CASA." Morgan told me her CASA

brothers still live with their grandparents. She believes her CASA truly shaped the person she is

children and no way I would of found a passion for education without my CASA. Without my
CASA, I wouldn't be the person I am." I cannot imagine going through what Morgan did. However,

The Incident Of Troy University 's Homecoming

I had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in
every direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place

We all followed. While waiting at the front door, I constantly observed my surroundings. A sense of
nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside
waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group
of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at
another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the
ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason;
instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I
stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched
one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was
coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people
were frantically running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror.
Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone
stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. I looked over to my right, in hopes
that at least my cousin had made it inside the building. She was nowhere to be found. I desperately
began to search for my cousin amongst the crowd of flustered people. "Tia! I'm right here!"

Long-Term Videography Analysis
I searched for videos displaying students with similar goals to mine. I did not find any long–term
videography documenting a premedical undergraduate lifestyle. As my individual journey continued
I wondered if others considering the medical field had a curiosity about the process, and because of
this I began to study the methods needed to film, edit, and record my own videos in the hopes of
aiding and entertaining up and coming scholars interested in medicine. I post a couple films on
"CrisVlogs (PreMed Edition)" YouTube channel a month showing me as a premedical college
student along with an insight into my personal life. I have reached 50,000 views and hope to
continue helping others. Interacting with patients at St. Rose Sienna Hospital fulfills my sense of
purpose; helping others. Coming across patients ranging from labor contractions to gunshots trains
me to stay calm when they are frightened and apprehensive. I am often tasked with the training of

The Five Imponents Of Alpha Kappa Alpha
In the 1900s, segregation and male dominance were a big part of American Society. African
American women were often underestimated as well as neglected of their respect and authority.
Ethel Hedgeman, who was a student at Howard University, believed that it was essential to create an
organization for a group of women who were willing to use their talents and strengths for the benefit
of others, but at the same time learn to value and respect themselves. She envisioned that this group
would focus on interaction, encouragement, and ethical growth between the members, and that is
exactly what Alpha Kappa Alpha has done ever since she created it. In 1908, AKA also known as the
sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first African American sorority was created. Members of Alpha
Kappa Alpha communicate and express their common ideas and goals in their own unique ways.
Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. Ever since AKA was
founded in 1908, their motto has been "By Culture and By Merit", and the mission of the sorority
goes along with their motto. According to the mission tab of the official AKA website, service to all
mankind, to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and
friendship among college women, and to alleviate problems concerning girls and women to maintain
a progressive ingress in college life are the five components of Alpha Kappa Alpha's mission to
stand by their motto (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Par. 1).

W.E.B. Du Bois suggested in his early work that the talent–tenth would uplift the black race. He
implied college trained black men and women were best equipped to transform black America's
position in the twentieth century. With that in mind, a new mission seemed to begin. At elite Cornell
University, the germination of a transcending organization occurred. Following suit around the
country, in particular at Howard University, other transcending organizations arose resulting in new
thoughts, behavior, and connectivity for black America progression. The fruit bore from these

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Discourse

Alpha Sorority discourse Researcher John Swales in " The Concept of Discourse Community"
explains that there are six characteristics that need to be identified for a group of people to be a
discourse community. According to Swales, there are six characteristics that make up a discourse
community. They are common public goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among members,
participatory mechanisms to provide information and feedback, utilizing one or more genres in
communication, a specific lexis, and a threshold level of members with a degree of relevant content

With this research I plan to go back to the roots of why sororities use Greek language in their
discourse community and how it helps them form a sisterhood that is shared only amongst the
community. Sororities and fraternities are becoming more prevalent in universities all across the
nation. Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is
continuously growing each year ("Greek Life Statistics"). "The terms 'fraternity' and 'sorority'
describe groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support,
leadership training, participation in campus activities, service to the community and University, and
preparation for future careers" ("What is Greek Life?"). People that in are the Greek community all
have at least one thing in common. Whether they just want to be apart of a sisterhood/brotherhood
or deeper things like they all share a common belief or goal. "Sororities have five basic benefits:
sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy (charitable causes/community service), and
socializing" ("About Sororities"). These benefits are included in the values and beliefs of a sorority
as a discourse community. Greeks all speak a "language" that they learn in the process of becoming
part of their fraternity/sorority(recruitment process). Agendas, e–mails, and text messages are all
forms of a genre. A genre is anything that is written down and shared in the discourse community.

Letter of Interest for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Dear Ladies of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated: I am
seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated because I want to grow and
contribute my time and talent to an illustrious, originating organization. I aspire to be a part of a
sisterhood where I can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African –
American women. This summer I was involved in a traumatic car accident and survived, tragically
two of my dearest friends did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my eyes shut, and braced myself

There are different types of sororities. There are four basic types of Greek letter organizations:
social, professional, academic or honorary, and service. Of these, social Greek–letter organizations
are most popular (Encarta). The first social sorority started in 1851 by women at Wesleyan College
in Macon, Georgia. The women founded the Adelphean Society, which later became a Greek–letter

Phi sigma sigma began when their founders went to the Dean of Women at Hunter College in New
York City with a plan. They wanted to begin a sorority that would be open to all women. On
November 26, 1913 Phi Sigma Sigma started. It was the first nonsectarian sorority, began under Fay
Chertkoff. Their Alpha Chapter was at Hunter College.
In 1913, in New York City, Phi Sigma Sigma was incorporated. Originally under Phi Sigma Omega,
their founders learned that another society were already using the name, so they chose the letters

mythological importance to women, and because it represented mystery and secrecy.

Rio Grande Valley Job Analysis
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
It is important to choose a university/college because choosing the right one can help me get the job
I want. It would prepare me for the skill and knowledge for the job. The first step I would use to
picking a college is going over the ones available as said by Katy Hopkins, "As you weigh several
appealing options, think back to why you applied to each..." (1). You also would need to check if
you like the university with "...an extended list of pros and cons..." (Katy Hopkins 1).
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has a couple of locations in the Valley. There are
campuses in Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen, McAllen, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island.
There is about 29,000 students enrolled in UTRGV as of 2015. The diversity is pretty small. Most of
the ethnicity is Hispanic at almost 90%. It is then followed by White at almost 4%, then Asian at
3.4% and finally African American. This is based on the UTRGV accountability report on their
website. The cost of attending the University is about about 68,000–72,00 for four years. The
student to teacher ratio is about 26:1. The instructors have Master's and Ph.D.'s. According to

Leadership And Workshop Development Committee
Overview
Both seasoned and new Nupes often find themselves asking the question, "Why did I join Kappa?",
for days, months or even decades after their initiation. While most go on to answer that question in
their head, their responses are seldom shared with the policy makers of our fraternity. How else, one
must wonder, will the experiences of future Kappamen benefit from the lessons learned by the
present day membership? For this reason, there is the need for some mechanism to capture these
fleeting ideas and deliver a curriculum that seeks to correct missed opportunities of training for
leadership.
In 2015, the Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi sought to provide such a vessel to its membership
through the Leadership and Workshop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference (CRWLC) that meets its original purpose for ALL members.
In its most fundamental description, the conference is supposed to prepare and incite in our brothers
varying aspects of achievement, whether that is in the fraternity, job, or community. The 1957
approach to sharing and instilling knowledge was most effective in the traditional lecture style
workshop where a subject matter expert taught his brothers the history of the fraternity or the
different goals and themes of Leadership development. While this traditional approach to education
and development worked for decades to prepare some of the most amazing young men in America
and throughout the world for leadership, modernity offers an opportunity to drastically enhance the
outcomes of our flagship leadership development event.
This year, with the support of the Province Polemarch and Board of Directors, the committee hoped
to provide a leadership conference grounded with in a lens of collaboration and innovation. This
approach would provide the type of training that would engage members in outcome driven
innovation; we called this enhanced conference CRWLCX. Much like how the TEDX events that

Kappa Alpha Theta And CASA Case Study
"I am a Theta. I am for the child." As an undergraduate, pledging Theta at Phi chapter of Kappa
Alpha Theta has provided me with many opportunities to contribute to my community, especially
through our philanthropy work for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). For 25 years,
Kappa Alpha Theta and CASA have shared a common belief that every abused or neglected child
should be loved, have a safe home, and have the opportunities to succeed. A CASA provides a voice
for children during the juvenile court system. As children move from one foster home to the next,
consumed by the legal system they are too young to understand; a CASA becomes the one constant
these children have. CASA provides a helping hand to these children; they are fundamentally an
extra set of eyes and ears for these children. By getting to know the child, understanding his or her
needs, a CASA advocates and helps find the best permanent home for the child. I became aware of

I believe that I posses the level of ethical standards and integrity and dedication to sisterhood and
love for service, required to uphold the reputation of Alpha Kappa Alpha. These characteristics are
expressed in my actions and the strives I make to and improve my character daily through what I
call "small victories": small things that can be done to better myself and others daily. These are
achieved through academic integrity and doing my part, to volunteer, mentor and help people any
time presented the opportunity. My dedication to sisterhood in my opinion is rarely matched and is
one I have been nurturing for years, starting as a Girl Scout, continuing to Girls In The Game
program and most recently apart of a Sisters Inc, a mentoring/leadership program that I've had the
pleasure to be involved with in for over six years and have been involved with on numerous levels;
mentee, mentor, ambassador and alumni commitee. I've been afforded the opportunity to make life

The Black Greek Life in College Essay
The smell of carnival foods, music blasting through the tall speakers, and the crowd going wild is
the first thing one hears as one enters the stadium. Shortly, one hears the sounds of clapping,
stomping, and yelling as the Greek organizations compete for the grand prize, title of recognition,

routines the groups have been practicing for days. The final group performs and walks off stage

This definition Ross provides and informs one with the true and deep meanings of what the
"sisterhood" may define sorority. A sister may tell one that a sorority may appear as a partying thing,
but in reality a sorority is a group that gives back to the community while having fun at the same
time. Many resources do not talk about sororities in general. The resources mentioned a special
group called the Divine Nine. Together these nine societies make up what is known as the National

Sororities
Sororities Affects On African American Culture Sororities are commonly known as a college social
club or organization for women, with particular distinction given to the African American sororities.
Brought about at the time in history when traditional roles of women were being challenged, the
founders of the first black sororities had to overcome the stereotypical views of sexism as well. They
were considered unique, although college wasn't really an option for African American's. Within
society they were being treated in rejection because they were black. They wanted to have an

Kappa Alpha Stereotypes
While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on what
majors are provided, location, an overall sense of the school, and several other things. One thing that
is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even consider the
option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of going Greek is
because the members are stereotyped to be party goers who do not do well in college. This could not
be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are several ambitious
standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa Alpha opens members,
both current and former, to several opportunities. Finally, Kappa Alpha is an Order that holds several
beliefs that most southerners have faith in. When someone thinks about a Greek Community they
normally associate it with what they have learned through stereotypes such as the movie Animal
House. The members of the fraternity depicted in this film were not the definition of the ideal
college student. They would have parties almost every day along with copious amounts of drinking.
Their grades reflected on this when the main members of the movie were kicked out for not
maintaining a high enough grade point average. This movie is completely fictional. The members of
Kappa Alpha are held to an extremely high standard when it comes to academics and behavior. Robi

What I 've Had My Mind
One thing I've had my mind set on doing since I was a junior in high school was rushing a fraternity
in college. I made my mind up after hearing stories from my friends' older brothers and teachers that
experienced greek life. Not only did they provide them with a close–knit brotherhood in college,
which can be a hard thing to find if you are coming to a school out of state, but they also provide an
active social life, leadership opportunities, and business connections for later in life. The key, I've
been told, is finding the fraternity that you fit in the best and that feels like home. If you plan to
spend the next four years with a close group of guys every day it's imperative that you find an
organization you believe you belong in. Rush week was the second week of school this semester, the
week following Labor Day weekend. The layout of rush week is events from Monday–Thursday,
Friday being an invitation only interview, and Saturday you either receive or get denied a bid. The
schedule you build for yourself for where you visit is based off what impressions you have gained of
the houses on campus. The goal of rush week is to go around to every house and find where you
connect with the guys and fit in the best. Most freshman gain these impression beforehand by
looking at rush videos on YouTube and stories heard. Obviously some houses will be on everybody's
list due to how historical they are on campus and nationally. Reputation and awards is also a

The Five Objectives Of Kappa Alpha Psi

From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of
order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world,
bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the
distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique

achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status,
security, and meeting the demands of everyday living the founders of the fraternity envisioned
something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity
Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of

Alpha Fraternity Analysis

  • 1. Alpha Fraternity Analysis Since the beginning of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Men have lived up to the high standards the fraternity has set for its members. Alpha Men have uplifted their communities, empowered and motivated African Americans and have marched onward and upward towards the light. Memorable and impactful leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and W.E.B. Dubois are some examples of some of the qualities of Alpha Men. However, what sets the Rho Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated apart from other chapters and the organization as a whole is their relentless pursuit of perfection. The members of the Rho Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated are never satisfied and are always looking for ways to improve and do more. Essential every single member of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, because of C.A.L.C., my flaws have been exposed and highlighted. As a result I've been able to make tremendous gains in my mentality, attention to detail, thoughtfulness and in my professional skills. I expect this growth, but not necessarily pressure, to continue if I am able to become a member of the Rho Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In addition, if I am able to become a member, my goals will always be pushed and expanded past any types of limits I previously set. Being a part of a network and brotherhood of men who have ambitious goals and are supportive of one another will force me to keep pushing the envelope of my ambitions. With all that said, the most important personal gain I can get from Rho Nu is a brotherhood of men with similar background, ambitions and interests in the African American community that I can truly call my brothers. I'm not even a member of Rho Nu but have already seen the type of support and care the members have for one another just by the amount of time and attention they have given ... • 3. Designing The Cd Package Design CD Package Design I was inspired by watercolor portraits and CD packaging designs from other students. I decided to incorporate this idea into the CD package design. Throughout the CD Package, I added a faded textured in the background of the design. Within the background on the back panel, I added a transparent photograph of a cricket to keep consistent with the title of the album name. Then, added paint splatters and rendered them to make the model as a recognizable subject for the cover. In addition, I added the song titles and an excerpt inside the front sleeve of the cover. Furthermore, I used three colors: cerulean blue, chartreuse green, and indigo purple throughout the project. Lastly, I added a barcode, a record label logo, and fictitious information to make the entire CD package look realistic. Typography Calendars For the month of May, I created a calendar page using Franklin Gothic typeface and added different shades of green and a beige color for the background in the calendar. I expanded the word "May" and composed the days of the month and weeks into the word itself. I also included the history of Franklin Gothic and added "Franklin Gothic" at the bottom of the composition. Lastly, I added "2015" on top of the bottom base to complete the calendar. For the month of October, I used the font Times New Roman and used different shades of the color red throughout the whole calendar. Instead of using a standard calendar outline, I decided to add the days, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Greek Hazing Research Paper Hazing in the Greek Life Life flipped upside down for Tucker Hipps when he did not have enough money to buy breakfast for his fraternity brothers one morning. September 22, 2014 Tucker Hipps was found dead after a fraternity run. Not only was this a traumatic experience for the campus of Clemson University, this devastating news hit my families heart's real hard. Tucker was apart of the Sigma Phi Epsilon ,and he was participating in an early morning group activity when things went bad. Tucker was last seen at the bridge, and it was reported he missed breakfast( WSPA staff). With investigations still going on with Tucker Hipps death, evidence is becoming more prominent. Clemson University crowds around together to remember the good times shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The consequences for committing hazing in the Greek life can be life changing. Seen on a webpage of anti–hazing laws, the South Carolina law for consequences for hazing states, " Once an investigation has been closed with evidence of people committing the act, the student can be dismissed, expelled, suspended, or punished by the schools president..."(South Carolina). Depending on the seriousness of the event practiced and the leniency of the school, the school that the people commit hazing at can handle the situations differently. Also, the repercussions of hazing are going to be different for the student committing hazing and the student being hazed. This is important to think about when hanging out with your fraternity or sorority because tragic events to one another can be prevented. Peyton Arnett is a high school student ready to take on Greek life when she goes to college. Peyton states, "When headed to my sorority, I have to pay a heavy fee to be apart of this group. I am terrified of the risk factor of hazing because I could get caught up into the acts. Then not only am I paying for my dues to be in the sisterhood but I would be paying for a lawyer to help me" (Arnett). This statement turns into reality for many students at ... • 9. My Experience Of My Life In A Sorority Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be in a sorority. I have always had this image of what a sorority girl was in my head. They were the pretty, stuck up, and rude girls. I didn't want to be involved with drama and hold girl's hands in pictures. I just wasn't that girl. My best friend joined a sorority and she changed but not for the better. She became one of those girls who only thought about herself and her appearance. I wanted to focus on school and making friends, not partying every weekend and caring about my outfit for that night. As I started to tell people where I was going to college almost everyone asked, "Are you going to rush?". I explained to them that I didn't think I would fir in or see any positive outcomes out of it other than getting into parties. One day, a girl that attended Washington State University, asked the same question that everyone else had been asking. When I told her no and my reasoning she was shocked that I thought of a sorority in that way. "You have been watching way too many movies girl". She started to talk about her experience being in a sorority. One of the main things that stuck out to me was the girls who really weren't stuck up or full of themselves. Of course, would always be a few but for the most part she said they were genuine people that cared about each other. We talked about how it isn't all about partying and how a lot of the houses are strict about grades. Grade checks are prominent throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was a table with an American and Missouri flag on each end holding our nametags. There was one name that was absent, the First Lady Georganne Nixon who is an alumni of Kappa Alpha Theta at The University of Missouri. She was kind enough to invite our chapter into her home, also known as The Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City, Missouri. Morgan told me her CASA was one of her favorite people; she got to know Morgan well and was able to make the right decision, letting Morgan live with her grandparents. Thirteen years later, Morgan and her younger brothers still live with their grandparents. She believes her CASA truly shaped the person she is today, "There is no way I would have been able to go to college, found a passion for helping children and no way I would of found a passion for education without my CASA. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason; instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. • 23. The Five Imponents Of Alpha Kappa Alpha In the 1900s, segregation and male dominance were a big part of American Society. African American women were often underestimated as well as neglected of their respect and authority. Ethel Hedgeman, who was a student at Howard University, believed that it was essential to create an organization for a group of women who were willing to use their talents and strengths for the benefit of others, but at the same time learn to value and respect themselves. She envisioned that this group would focus on interaction, encouragement, and ethical growth between the members, and that is exactly what Alpha Kappa Alpha has done ever since she created it. In 1908, AKA also known as the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first African American sorority was created. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha communicate and express their common ideas and goals in their own unique ways. Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. According to Swales, there are six characteristics that make up a discourse community. They are common public goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among members, participatory mechanisms to provide information and feedback, utilizing one or more genres in communication, a specific lexis, and a threshold level of members with a degree of relevant content and discourse expertise (220–222). With this research I plan to go back to the roots of why sororities use Greek language in their discourse community and how it helps them form a sisterhood that is shared only amongst the community. Sororities and fraternities are becoming more prevalent in universities all across the nation. Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is continuously growing each year ("Greek Life Statistics"). "The terms 'fraternity' and 'sorority' describe groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support, leadership training, participation in campus activities, service to the community and University, and preparation for future careers" ("What is Greek Life?"). People that in are the Greek community all have at least one thing in common. Whether they just want to be apart of a sisterhood/brotherhood or deeper things like they all share a common belief or goal. "Sororities have five basic benefits: sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy (charitable causes/community service), and socializing" ("About Sororities"). These benefits are included in the values and beliefs of a sorority as a discourse community. Greeks all speak a "language" that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority(recruitment process). Agendas, e–mails, and text messages are all forms of a genre. A genre is anything that is written down and shared in the discourse community. Face to face interaction is a way to advertise for events and also another way to advertise for events is through ... These characteristics are expressed in my actions and the strives I make to and improve my character daily through what I call "small victories": small things that can be done to better myself and others daily. These are achieved through academic integrity and doing my part, to volunteer, mentor and help people any time presented the opportunity. My dedication to sisterhood in my opinion is rarely matched and is one I have been nurturing for years, starting as a Girl Scout, continuing to Girls In The Game program and most recently apart of a Sisters Inc, a mentoring/leadership program that I've had the pleasure to be involved with in for over six years and have been involved with on numerous levels; mentee, mentor, ambassador and alumni commitee. I've been afforded the opportunity to make life long friends, mentor girls, build self esteem and develop in my journey to being an all around model citizen. All of these programs not only showed me the importance of sisterhood but also scholarship and service, showing me that a real sister are those that will help you and will except your help back. A real sister is one who you never have to sacrifice your love of service you're your dedication to scholarship for and lastly love you like blood. Lastly I believe that my love of service is characteristic I believe that I can use to maintain the status of Alpha Kappa Alpha, from a young age my grandmother would preach to me "do unto others...". From a young I knew it was my responsibility to assist someone in need any chance I am given. And have carried this belief to every organization I have joined for the Girl Scouts of America to my recent membership into the Student Activity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People are dancing and supporting their favorite groups as they perform the routines the groups have been practicing for days. The final group performs and walks off stage drained with all the energy they put into the performance. Everyone crosses their fingers hoping their Greek organization won. • 65. Kappa Alpha Stereotypes While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on what majors are provided, location, an overall sense of the school, and several other things. One thing that is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even consider the option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of going Greek is because the members are stereotyped to be party goers who do not do well in college. This could not be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are several ambitious standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa Alpha opens members, both current and former, to several opportunities. Finally, Kappa Alpha is an Order that holds several beliefs that most southerners have faith in. When someone thinks about a Greek Community they normally associate it with what they have learned through stereotypes such as the movie Animal House. The members of the fraternity depicted in this film were not the definition of the ideal college student. They would have parties almost every day along with copious amounts of drinking. Their grades reflected on this when the main members of the movie were kicked out for not maintaining a high enough grade point average. This movie is completely fictional. The members of Kappa Alpha are held to an extremely high standard when it comes to academics and behavior. Robi Rini, the Corresponding Secretary of Kappa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. What I 've Had My Mind One thing I've had my mind set on doing since I was a junior in high school was rushing a fraternity in college. I made my mind up after hearing stories from my friends' older brothers and teachers that experienced greek life. Not only did they provide them with a close–knit brotherhood in college, which can be a hard thing to find if you are coming to a school out of state, but they also provide an active social life, leadership opportunities, and business connections for later in life. The key, I've been told, is finding the fraternity that you fit in the best and that feels like home. If you plan to spend the next four years with a close group of guys every day it's imperative that you find an organization you believe you belong in. Rush week was the second week of school this semester, the week following Labor Day weekend. The layout of rush week is events from Monday–Thursday, Friday being an invitation only interview, and Saturday you either receive or get denied a bid. The schedule you build for yourself for where you visit is based off what impressions you have gained of the houses on campus. The goal of rush week is to go around to every house and find where you connect with the guys and fit in the best. Most freshman gain these impression beforehand by looking at rush videos on YouTube and stories heard. Obviously some houses will be on everybody's list due to how historical they are on campus and nationally. Reputation and awards is also a deciding factor for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Five Objectives Of Kappa Alpha Psi Lorenzo Espada June 7th, 2017 The Five Objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of achievement.
