My Spanish Standoff Analysis
The Benefits of Being Bilingual My Spanish Standoff by Gabriella Kuntz explains how the fear of
prejudice against Latin America in the United States led her and her husband to avoid speaking and
teaching their children Spanish. One reason that she decides not to teach her native language to her
children is because she saw how the Anglo Saxons in the community treated her because of her dark
complexion, brown eyes and black hair. Another reason, she mentions involves the fact that her
children developed accents and were unable to understand either language completely. Because of
this, Kuntz decides only to speak to them in English to prevent others from criticizing her children for
speaking with broken grammar and thick accents. She believes

The Development Of A Successful Business Venture...
Abstract:
What is an entrepreneur? Entrepreneurship is the act of being an entrepreneur, which is a French word
meaning one who undertakes an endeavor . Entrepreneurs assemble resources including innovations,
finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods. This may
result in new organizations or may be part of revitalizing mature organizations in response to a
perceived opportunity or necessity. The most obvious form of entrepreneurship is that of starting new
businesses; however, in recent years, the term has been extended to include social and political forms
of entrepreneurial activity. The purpose of this paper is to find out to what personal values determine
the development of a successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It involves hard work and most are generally workaholics.
Entrepreneurs have a nurturing quality and are willing to take charge of, and watch over a venture
until it can stand alone. They have an acceptance of responsibility. They are morally, legally, and
mentally accountable for their ventures. Some entrepreneurs may be driven more by altruism than by
self interest. They reward orientation and have a desire to achieve, work hard and take responsibility,
but also want to be rewarded for their efforts; rewards can be in forms other than money, such as
recognition and respect. They are optimistic and live by the philosophy that this is the best of times,
and that anything is possible. They have an orientation to excellence and often desire to achieve
something outstanding that they can be proud of. They have strong organization and are good at
bringing together the components of a venture. They want to make a profit; but the profit serves
primarily as a meter to gauge their success and achievement. The demand theory holds that
entrepreneurs emerge out of the combination of entrepreneurial opportunities and people who are well
positioned to take advantage of them. Anyone who encounters the right conditions might become an
entrepreneur, if they find themselves in a position where they find a valuable problem that they alone
can solve. An entrepreneur is a person who

Thee Checkers Speech Rhetorical Analasis
Checkers, The American Dog in Disguise: A Rhetorical Analysis of Nixon s Address In The Checkers
Speech, Richard Nixon responds to criticism regarding an alleged secret fund. At this time, 1952,
Nixon was running for vice president with presidential candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower
was enjoying enormous popularity when the rumor surfaced one month before the election. Nixon was
accused of accepting a supplemental salary of $18,000 dollars, contributed by a group of supporters
back in his home state of California. There were also rumors that Eisenhower would drop Nixon from
the ticket. So Nixon was forced to come up with a remedy for the untimely situation. Not only did he

Nixon was basically stating that he was a proven enemy of communists and that the democrats
assisted them. Finally, Nixon supports Eisenhower by showing that he is qualified to clean up
corruption and deal with communists. If one looks closely at Nixon s speech it has a very easy, logical
pattern to follow, and allowed him to achieve every goal that he set for himself. One of his main
intentions of his speech was to attack the democrats, but at the same time make republicans, including
himself, look good. After Nixon built up his own credibility, he began to bash the democrats. He
implied that Stevenson and Sparkman had something to hide, unless they do as I did and make their
finances pubic. Nixon encourages his audience to believe a lot of things that may or may not have
been true. One, that he has done nothing morally wrong with using the $18,000 fund because he made
his finances public. Two, he is an honest man, and he deserves to be retained as Vice Presidential
candidate. Three, rich men such as Governor Stevenson who inherited a fortune from his father should
not deserve to be president. But, a modest man such as himself or Eisenhower, a common man that
God must have loved, should have that chance at office. In general Nixon said that Eisenhower and he,
the republican candidates, are qualified to lead the country and democrats are not. Therefore, he only
left the American public with the option of electing the

Charlotte Beers at Ogilvy Mather Worldwide Essay
Executive Summary
Charlotte Beers has a vision; however, she cannot convey this message personally to the whole Ogilvy
Mather organization (O M). Appointed CEO after a hostile takeover, Beers was faced with the
challenge of uniting a multinational, autonomous corporation under her concept of Brand
Stewardship. David Ogilvy founded the company, that later merged with Mather Crowther, which
became one of the leading advertising agencies. O M had offices worldwide, focusing on local as well
as global advertising campaigns that used the influence of a multinational corporation with the appeal
of local intricacies. The culture of O M was such a large part of the company that any change was
deemed as a personal attack on the employees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This left O M in dire need for presence in their leader. In 1989, WPP Group Plc acquired O M in a
hostile takeover. During this period, they lost many large accounts including the famous American
Express campaign never leave home without it. Beers was appointed CEO to an organization that
rejects outsiders and still she jumped in with both feet. A proven leader in the Mars Company and
other competing advertising agencies, she was poised to take O M out of the mire.
Beers first course of action at O M was to pick a small group of change thirsty individuals, regardless
of their current positions, to help her orchestrate the needed change. She only wanted the people that
got it to help her clarify the vision O M needed to recapture lost and win new accounts. She knew that
this vision must be brand focused, but which direction was still unknown. Beers called for a secret
meeting of these thirsty for change individuals in which they agreed upon Brand Stewardship as the
focus for O M s vision. Even though there was a consensus as to this direction, many were still unsure
of how it was to be implemented. Even after reading this case, Brand Stewardship is still an
ambiguous term and perhaps on purpose. Beers leadership in the past came from her ability to

Teenagers And Bulimia Social Issues
Bulimia is a social issue that has been affecting our society for a long time now. It affects primarily
teenagers who do not feel comfortable with their bodies due to many reasons, such as peer pressure
and the influence of fashion and film industries. Over 8,000 teenagers die every year due to this
illness. However, every problem has a solution. Bulimia can be reduced among teenagers if there is
more attention drawn to it, especially as a mental illness, there should be a greater restriction on things
like photoshop, schools should spread awareness and educate children about bulimia and other self
esteem issues. Fashion, music and film industries are the most controversial and influential businesses

Moreover, Israel is not the only country fighting against photoshop. In 2011, The U.K s Advertising
Standards Authority outlawed and took down a magazine ad produced by L Oreal, which featured
supermodel Christy Turlington and actress Julia Roberts. The ad was reportedly misleading,
exaggerated and overly airbrushed (Sieczkowski). The American Medical Association (AMA) already
announced the adoption of a policy to control the use of photoshop by advertisers. The policy consists
of the side by side work between the advertising associations, and the public and private sector
organizations concerned with child and adolescent health. By working together, headlines,
advertisements, fashion shows, etc., could still go on while not making a negative influence on
teenagers (Clemmer). Furthermore, major attention should be brought to the illness. Nowadays, the
word bulimia is commonly viewed as a taboo; no one wants to talk about it. People avoid the topic,
and that is one of the main reasons we still have teens all around the world suffering from it. Problems
should be addressed in order to be resolved. TV shows and social media in general exhibit bulimics as
extremely skinny, sad and antisocial people. However, most of the time,

African American Stereotypes in the Media

African American Stereotypes in the Media
When I first heard someone say, All African American people are Ghetto, I was very offended that
someone would make this type of assumption about my culture, and I thought how ignorant this
person must be; but then I stopped and wondered why other people would think this about us. I asked
her why she would say something like this, and she instantly listed shows like Tosh.O and Chelsea
Lately, which highlight my culture in a negative view. It was clear to me that she had made up her
mind about black people through watching the media and seeing African Americans fulfill that
stereotype in person. This led me to question: Where exactly do these stereotypes come from? ... Show

The way entertainment in the media portrays us has greatly affected how others identify us. Movies
and shows like; Madea s family Reunion, Bringing down the House, Love and Hip Hop, and
Basketball Wives all portray us in a degrading way. People sometimes find it comical of course, but
the fact that it is comical does not justify it being debasing. This image of us has evolved from things
in the media, and its power to shape people s idea of us. We as a race must stop living up to our
stereotypes. As soon as we take action in not succumbing to our own stereotype, people will not think
we are Ghetto or any other undignified term they think of us; therefore in the media we won t be
perceived in that way. As Colin Powell once said, Fit no stereotypes. Don t chase the latest
management fads. The situation dictates which approach best accomplishes the team s mission.
Although African American stereotyping is prevalent in the media now because of its entertaining
quality; it perpetuates a cycle of harmful stereotypes. As long as this cycle continues, our culture will
always be illustrated negatively.

Westward Expansion Dbq Analysis
American Expansion DBQ Americans expanded their country in two different eras throughout history:
American imperialism and westward expansion. During both of these eras, the mid late 1800s and the
early 1900s, Americans believed that expansion was necessary and beneficial. To a great extent, late
nineteenth century and early twentieth century United States expansionism was a continuation of past
United States expansionism and to a lesser extent was it a departure. The similarities and differences
between American Imperialism in the early 1900s and Manifest Destiny in the mid late 1800s are
shown through political, economic, and moral motives of America and its government. America
wanted to establish itself as a global and political power on the same level as major European nations.

Resources such as sugar, coal, minerals, and other exotic natural assets caught the eyes of American

Flourishing North American Cultures
2000 years before Europeans began to arrive in the New World, the last era of the pre Columbian
development began. North American cultures such as the Mississippian culture, the Hopewell
Tradition, and the Hohokam culture experienced growth and environmental adaptation throughout this
era. Major contributions and innovations of Native Americans have developed and been passed on
through generations of ancestors. Originating in 700 A.D., the Mississippian culture expanded through
the Mississippi Valley and out into the southeastern states of Alabama, Georgia and Florida. For 800

At the peak of their dynamic culture, the Anasazi developed the Chaco Canyon. Within the canyon,
they constructed many pueblos, totaling nearly seven hundred rooms. In addition, they built water
collection systems and a network of roads. It was a massive achievement in engineering. The founding
fathers of America looked at the Iroquois, who lived along the St. Lawrence River in what is now New
York, as a model of democracy to base America s political system on. From the Iroquois, Europeans
learned of a well developed system of checks, balances and supreme law. Because the Iroquois
influenced the Articles of Confederation, they were one of the most important native groups in North
American history. The federation of the Iroquois enabled them to prosper in independence and protect
themselves from enemies. The Hohokam culture of present day Arizona existed from 300 A.D. to
1200 A.D. The earliest Hohokam people lived in unusually large lodges possibly with their extended
family. The Hohokam men, who were traditionally hunters, hunted large game with spears until the
bow and arrow was introduced around 400 500 A.D. Throughout the culture s lifespan, its
geographical range expanded by at least three to four times. As the Hohokam culture expanded and
their contacts with neighboring tribes increased, trade began to flourish. A surprising variety of

Ideologically the documentary highlights the dedication, precision, and stress involved in designing,
thus emphasizing the legitimacy of fashion and the passion of designers. Mizrahi s work demonstrates
the intensive labor of love behind his work, thwarting the stereotype of fashion as superficial.
Additionally, Unzipped utilizes Mizrahi to break down barriers between the audience and celebrity. By
making Mizrahi relatable before showing his interactions with fashion all stars, Unzipped invites
audiences to meet models like Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell. Thus, it brings
genuineness to subjects known only physically.
Stylistically, Unzipped produces a raw aesthetic to capture the fashion world. Though Mizrahi had
final say over the edit of the film, Unzipped seemingly provides intimate access into his collection.
Splitting itself into different sections, Unzipped lacks a clear structure other than a loose arc leading to
its climactic runway. Shot in 35mm film and predominantly in black and white, Unzipped offers an
unamplified look into Mizrahi s world.
Unzipped s most deliberate stylistic choice serves to exaggerate the film s core: fashion. Very
consciously selecting what to show in color, the runway transforms into a world of vibrancy. In stark
contrast to the muted tones of black and white, Mizrahi s show throws his audiences into a
wonderland of effervescent coloration. Mizrahi s aesthetic screams fun as hot pink and orange jackets

My one wild and precious life , as I slowly let out a small puff of air, this statement slowly crept into

Girls Should Be Allowed In Schools
The ratio of men to women in most weight rooms is nowhere near equal. Adult females tend to shy
away from loading a bar with weights and pumping the iron. The issue is that women are not offered
an introduction to lifting when they are young. A class that is designed for female beginners is needed
in schools. Girls deserve the focused attention of a trainer that advocates for their education in the
weight room. Working out is proven to cause boosts in both mental and physical strength and females
should not be left out of such a beneficial activity. Creating a women s lifting course presents them
with the opportunity to learn exercises, build self esteem, and lead a healthier lifestyle.

The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7, 1941 remains a clear memory for both
nations. Everything seemed to have played in favor of the Empire of Japan; from planning, to
gathering the necessary resources, the silent 3,300 nautical mile journey of the task force and
ultimately the attack itself. From a tactical standpoint the attack was one of the most ingenious naval
operations in history. With the loss of four U.S. battleships, 180 Aircraft, and 2,400 sailors the attack
can be chalked up as a win for Japan. But since the surprise attack was conducted without a formal

Interpreting Nature
Edgar Allen Poe s creation of the detective Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin paved the way for
detective stories. ..........................................
One of the main characteristics of successful analysis, as said by Holmes, is the ability to reason
backwards ( A Study in Scarlet ). These views reflect the thoughts of the 17th century philosopher of
science, Sir Francis Bacon. Sherlock also uses the phrase ones ideas must be as broad as nature if they
are to interpret nature. This idea of interpreting nature is also similar to Bacon s views as Bacon writes
about interpreting nature in one of his philosophical works called The Novum Organum Scientiarium

fingerprints matched that they were the same, i.e. a positive identification. In A Study In Scarlet,
Holmes talks about the identification of ashes and afterward Locard wrote a paper on the identification

are a mixed bag as a country, accepting all different cultures and backgrounds. This has led to many
breakthroughs and innovations in music throughout history. We are all influenced by our experiences
in life and this is no different in the evolution of music in American History. The Blues was created
from African American Slave songs, with lyrics that narrate the hardships of the human experience at
the time. These rhythms and forms carried over and eventually created what is now Rock and Roll.
Over the next five weeks, we will explore and discover five key genres and artists who are known to
specialize in that genre as a way to reconnect with our history and explore the possibilities for
innovation in music in the future.
Week 1 Folk
Folk is a musical style that is very lyrical and meaningful to the listener. Folk music is meant to be
shared with a community and bring people together which is exactly what this program aims to do
with our American Music Series. Folk music is set apart from other genres because it is not written for
a profit but instead it is written to make the audience think about the life experience. Folk music often
has very lyrical phrases that can sometimes

Laurence Olivier did an adaptation of Henry V into a screenplay as well as Kenneth Branagh in 1989
who also directed the 1989 film. Believing it is God s will, King Henry V of England is driven to add
France to his kingdom and make Princess Kathrine of France his queen. As a young man, Henry was
known for his drinking and also keeping unsavory company.

The Technological Factors That Affect Ross Sales, But...
Not only does seasonality play a role in Ross sales, but also technology. Sales have been slowly but
steadily rising meaning that businesses are positively making profits and growing from past years
production and profitability, this is always important because one at all times wants to see that the
company is headed in the right direction as far as growth and profitability is concerned. It is great to
see that at the moment the U.S economy is rising for the better of the businesses and of the people.
(Amadeo, 2016) We need more of this positive streak to keep going on so that more jobs will be
created because of the companies doing good they ll want to create more stores which means more
jobs. Technological Factors. The technological factors that I have noticed when working at Ross is that
factors that affect Ross are their slowness to adapt to the new retail systems such as using the chip
reader for their customers cards in order to protect their information, taking a long time to update the
register computers in all their stores which has a negative impact when checking out because if the
computer crashes and has to restart then the restart process is a lot slower. Not only can the failure to
use the chip system for the card result in a negative effect, but it can even have Ross be responsible for
fraudulent charges on their customers card. This is due to the fact that banks have given most
consumers a card with a chip therefore stores that have not updated to the chip

American Lip Project Analysis
I entered the delicate balance project process with the intention of continuing the American chestnut
restoration project that I initiated last semester. I was enticed by the appeal of bringing a lapsed
keystone species back into the forests of Vermont, and the romantic legacy it might provide for my
project. Unfortunately, I encountered a few challenging roadblocks in the American chestnut project s
early stages of implementation, such as lack of availability of blight resistant seedlings and the reality
that non blight resistant seedlings would most likely die as they did at Sterling College.
Although I was enthusiastic about the hands on physical element of my original project, I did feel that
it lacked an element of social justice that I hoped to convey through my project.
Given the lackluster social implications of the chestnut project, combined with its high likelihood of
failure, I decided to look for a worthy past delicate project to continue or for a current project to join.
Ultimately, I wanted to find a project that combined my passion for political activism with

Analyzing Henley s Poem Invictus
Invictus is a lyrical poem that anticipates the audience to be those that persevere in the face of
adversity. The lyrical poem contains four quatrains with a rhyme scheme: ABAB CHCH EFEF
GBGB, an iambic foot rhythm and iambic octameter. Despite being written in the late 1800 s, it is one
of the eminent poems in world literature, as the prominence of the poem is not only timeless but will
always be relevant to the past, present and future. Through Henley s manipulation of the poetic
elements; figurative language such as metaphors, personifications, and imagery, as well as the tone
and adds value to structure, the interpretation of the poem s strong theme of courage and resilience
which is evident throughout each stanza. In the first stanza,

What Is The Theme Of Amigos Mexicanos
Amigos Mexicanos Mayan Dusk By Juan Villoro Amigos Mexicanos and Mayan Dusk are fictional
stories written by Juan Villoro. Both stories had many similarities mainly with both of them having
unnamed protagonists as well as both being written in first person. These stories show a different side
of Mexico and Mexican people. This approach taken by Villoro as well as his style of writing and use
of humor gives quite some insight into Mexican life and Culture. One of the first things that I ve
noticed whilst reading these short stories was Villoros interesting use of pronouns. Which was evident
more so in Mayan Dusk . The author starts of by using we which gives a sense of unity. However, as

A store in a Victorian brownstone building, for example, will exude images associated with the
building s architectural era, such as cozy, tastefully cluttered and comfortable. If your exterior
architecture is not projecting the right image, consider painting or re facing the storefront, adding or
removing some architectural elements in keeping with your image, or consulting a designer to totally
re engineer the storefront. The Store Sign The store sign is a vital element of the storefront, identifying
your store and beckoning the customer to take notice and stop. In realizing the value of a strong
storefront sign, many retailers are employing new design techniques which include projecting or
cantilevering the store sign beyond the lease line, adding motion, or using three dimensional lettering
and unique lighting applications to add depth to the sign. If your storefront sign is losing the battle for
visual dominance among neighbouring stores, consider re painting it or adding more colour, making it
bigger and bolder, incorporating your trademark, using new, more contemporary materials to create
your sign, and/or adding motion or lighting. Store Windows A store s exterior windows or glass

The Accidental Prime Minister By Sanjaya Baru
The Accidental Prime Minister by Sanjaya Baru, published in 2014, is an account of former Indian
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh s two terms in office. Sanjaya Baru was appointed as Media
Adviser to Dr. Manmohan Singh during his first term in UPA 1 from 2004 to 2009. This book is in the
form of a political memoir. The book s narrative follows a chronological format, painting a picture of
Dr. Singh s terms in UPA 1 and UPA 2.
In the introduction to his book, Baru proclaims that none of his predecessors at the Prime Minister s

Gandhi Servant Leadership
In the contemporary world, the application of servant leadership by individuals and organizations may
be similar or vary significantly depending on the cultural and religious backgrounds. That is for sure
because the Western culture and Christianity execution of servant leadership may have similarities or
differences with other cultures and religious affiliations respectively. Primarily, the global servant
leader of interest in this discussion is Mahatma Gandhi, who demonstrates servant leadership through
the humanitarian work he accomplished in his lifetime.
Despite the differences in cultural and religious backgrounds between the Western Culture and
Mahatma Gandhi s Indian culture, similarities in servant leadership execution are apparent. A case in
point of such similarity of servant leadership application is the humanistic aspect that both Western
Culture and Christian servant leaders, as well as Mahatma Gandhi, demonstrate in their execution of
servant leadership. That is for sure because Mahatma Gandhi invested in his followers needs as well

Would you like to go back and reflect on the options to move forward?

A Brief Look at the Gesture
The gesture
Gesture is the natural, nonverbal way that human can use to communicate with each other, and
recently interface with computers and devices in order to have control upon them besides conventional
input devices such as keyboard, mouse, and joystick. In general, gestures can be categorized into static
and dynamic.
A static gesture refers to the position and poses of hand without any movement, which can be
represented by a single image.
A dynamic gesture describes the hand movement, which can be determined through a set of successive
images or video frames (3D Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Sensor Fusion of Commodity
Hardware).
2.3.2 Data acquisition
This stage is responsible for acquiring and collecting gestures from the human (usually hand gestures).
There are many technologies that can be used to acquire and capture the gestures, and then convert
them into a digital form (Sensors for Gesture Recognition Systems) in order to be understandable by

Comparison Of Jim Crow Laws And Mass Incarceration In The...
In The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander maps out the parallels between the old Jim Crow system
and the new racial caste system of mass incarceration. There are many profound similarities between
these two systems, such as historical parallels, closing the courthouse doors, and racial segregation.
There are many historical parallels between Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration. Both of these
systems were made due to a desire among white elites to exploit the resentments, vulnerabilities, and
racial bias of poor and working class whites for political or economic gain (Alexander 191).
Segregation laws were made to deflect social tensions from whites to blacks. Another example is
making laws more discriminative. In the Jim Crow era whites competed by passing harsher laws to
keep blacks in prisons. Currently legislators looking to make drug laws harsher to incarcerate more
blacks and latinos. The most obvious parallel between the Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration is
the legalization of discrimination. During the Jim Crow era blacks were denied the right to vote by
poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses. The fifteenth amendment states the rights of citizens
of the United States to vote should not be denied on the account of race, color or previous condition of

Scientists have been struggling with the cause, treatment of, and cure for Muscular dystrophy since its
discovery in 1886, by Dr. Guillaume Duchenne. Muscular dystrophy is a hereditary disease, affecting
thousands of people every year, two thirds being children between the age of birth through
adolescents. Muscular dystrophy can also occur with no family history of the disease.
Muscular dystrophy is a degenerating disease, in which the skeletal muscles degenerate, lose their
strength, and cause increasing disability and deformity. Muscles attached to the bones through tendons
are responsible for movement in the human body, however, in muscular dystrophy the muscles
become progressively weak. As the muscle fibers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boys begin to have difficulty sitting up and standing, weakness that progresses to muscles in the trunk
and shoulder, and later affecting the heart muscle. By the age of twenty years individuals affected with
Duchenne dystrophy die.
While there is no known cure, scientists are certain of the genetic make up that causes muscular
dystrophy, an inherited faulty gene. This gene can be inherited in one of four ways: X linked or sex
linked recessive, when a man with X Linked muscular dystrophy has children, Autosomal Recessive
Inheritance, and Autosomal Dominant Inheritance.
The mother, who is a carrier, inherits an X Linked or sex linked faulty gene. The result is producing an
affected son and or a daughter being a carrier. The second way is an affected male producing children,
particularly daughters. All daughters born to fathers with x linked muscular dystrophy will be carriers;
on the contrary their sons will be unaffected. Scientists link this to a genetic mutation in the gene,
appearing most often for the first time in a family.
Autosomal recessive inheritance is the third type known to cause muscular dystrophy, whereas both
parents are carriers of the defective gene. For this reason the offspring have a 25% chance of being
affected with both malformed genes, resulting in them being affected. The chance increases with
cousin marriages.

The Death Influenced Music Of The Medieval And Renaissance...
In this essay I will discuss how death influenced artists in the Medieval and Renaissance era. I will do
this by explaining the view of death and its sacraments in society. By examining events around this
period I can determine the reason behind such attitudes. I will then apply this knowledge to four works
by artists from 1400 1500. I will examine how these societal perceptions influenced the narrative
behind the work. I will conclude that the view of death and the dying man had a great impact on the
art of these periods.
The subject of death in Medieval and Renaissance art was predominant. With the rise of the Black
Death during the fourteenth century many art works centred on hell, the dying man, and
anthropomorphising death. Instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A death which was sudden was shamed and was often interpreted as the wrath of God [2]. Death is
depicted in its traditional form as a skeleton covered by a shroud. In his hand he carries an arrow
ready to strike. Furthermore, the armoury in the foreground symbolises the fragility of the human
condition in the face of death. Armour is no longer of use; you could not fight death, you had to accept
it. Looking closely at the painting, we observe the inner battle between religion and possession. The
miser while looking directly at Death reaches for a bag of gold which is being used by a demon to
tempt him away from salvation. Infernal imps invade the dying man s room taking his possessions;
even those hidden under the bed and in his money box [3]. Next to him, an angel is desperately trying
to make the man turn his head to the figure of Christ in the window. A ray of light from Christ
symbolises the miser s possible salvation if he turns away from the materialistic reality. The dull
colour scheme is interrupted by the old man stood at the foot of the bed. His green drapes a welcome
contrast to the composition breaking up the narrative. With a key and rosary beads hanging around his
waist, does this depict continuous narrative? Has the angel succeeded in persuading the miser to take
salvation with God? We can assume yes. During the Medieval and Renaissance period people

The Solid Power Of Discrimination
The solid power of discrimination in modern Mexico stems from the construction of Mexican society
during the Spanish colonization in the 1500 s. One of the most powerful weapons concealed by the
European during the Conquest was hegemony. Hegemony is a basic principle of social control, in
which a ruling class dominates others ideologically, with a minimum of physical force, by making its
dominance seem natural and inevitable (Chasteen, 2001). Thus, by using hegemony, the Spaniard
convinced the native peoples of America to accept their place below the Spaniards and forced them to
see the conquerors as superior beings worthy of obedience. By establishing their superiority, the
Spaniards were able to control and dominate the indigenous people, forcing the Spanish culture,
religion, and language onto the population. As a result, indigenous people started to distance
themselves from their roots and their own people, creating a damaging prejudice and bigotry that has
been passed down through generations in Mexican families. Indigenous people turned against each
other. They mixed with the Spaniards creating new castes, dividing the people and providing them
with power and social status based on the lightness of their skin. This feeling exists even today, white
skinned people are seen as more honest and trustworthy, thus deserving privileges and power; while
the darker skinned people are seen as a resemblance of the indigenous people indicating inferiority
and implying a need to

  • 2. My Spanish Standoff Analysis The Benefits of Being Bilingual My Spanish Standoff by Gabriella Kuntz explains how the fear of prejudice against Latin America in the United States led her and her husband to avoid speaking and teaching their children Spanish. Another reason, she mentions involves the fact that her children developed accents and were unable to understand either language completely. Because of this, Kuntz decides only to speak to them in English to prevent others from criticizing her children for speaking with broken grammar and thick accents. She believes ... They reward orientation and have a desire to achieve, work hard and take responsibility, but also want to be rewarded for their efforts; rewards can be in forms other than money, such as recognition and respect. They are optimistic and live by the philosophy that this is the best of times, and that anything is possible. One of his main intentions of his speech was to attack the democrats, but at the same time make republicans, including himself, look good. After Nixon built up his own credibility, he began to bash the democrats. He implied that Stevenson and Sparkman had something to hide, unless they do as I did and make their finances pubic. Nixon encourages his audience to believe a lot of things that may or may not have been true. One, that he has done nothing morally wrong with using the $18,000 fund because he made his finances public. Two, he is an honest man, and he deserves to be retained as Vice Presidential candidate. Three, rich men such as Governor Stevenson who inherited a fortune from his father should not deserve to be president. But, a modest man such as himself or Eisenhower, a common man that God must have loved, should have that chance at office. In The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander maps out the parallels between the old Jim Crow system and the new racial caste system of mass incarceration. There are many profound similarities between these two systems, such as historical parallels, closing the courthouse doors, and racial segregation. There are many historical parallels between Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration. Both of these systems were made due to a desire among white elites to exploit the resentments, vulnerabilities, and racial bias of poor and working class whites for political or economic gain (Alexander 191). Segregation laws were made to deflect social tensions from whites to blacks. Another example is making laws more discriminative. In the Jim Crow era whites competed by passing harsher laws to keep blacks in prisons. Currently legislators looking to make drug laws harsher to incarcerate more blacks and latinos. The most obvious parallel between the Jim Crow laws and mass incarceration is the legalization of discrimination. By the age of twenty years individuals affected with Duchenne dystrophy die. This gene can be inherited in one of four ways: X linked or sex linked recessive, when a man with X Linked muscular dystrophy has children, Autosomal Recessive Inheritance, and Autosomal Dominant Inheritance. The mother, who is a carrier, inherits an X Linked or sex linked faulty gene. The result is producing an affected son and or a daughter being a carrier. The second way is an affected male producing children, particularly daughters. All daughters born to fathers with x linked muscular dystrophy will be carriers; on the contrary their sons will be unaffected. Scientists link this to a genetic mutation in the gene, appearing most often for the first time in a family. Autosomal recessive inheritance is the third type known to cause muscular dystrophy, whereas both parents are carriers of the defective gene. I will do this by explaining the view of death and its sacraments in society. By examining events around this period I can determine the reason behind such attitudes. I will then apply this knowledge to four works by artists from 1400 1500. I will examine how these societal perceptions influenced the narrative behind the work. I will conclude that the view of death and the dying man had a great impact on the art of these periods. The subject of death in Medieval and Renaissance art was predominant. A death which was sudden was shamed and was often interpreted as the wrath of God [2]. Death is depicted in its traditional form as a skeleton covered by a shroud. In his hand he carries an arrow ready to strike. Furthermore, the armoury in the foreground symbolises the fragility of the human condition in the face of death. Armour is no longer of use; you could not fight death, you had to accept it. Looking closely at the painting, we observe the inner battle between religion and possession. The miser while looking directly at Death reaches for a bag of gold which is being used by a demon to tempt him away from salvation. Infernal imps invade the dying man s room taking his possessions; even those hidden under the bed and in his money box [3]. Next to him, an angel is desperately trying to make the man turn his head to the figure of Christ in the window. A ray of light from Christ symbolises the miser s possible salvation if he turns away from the materialistic reality. The dull colour scheme is interrupted by the old man stood at the foot of the bed. His green drapes a welcome contrast to the composition breaking up the narrative. • 43. The Solid Power Of Discrimination The solid power of discrimination in modern Mexico stems from the construction of Mexican society during the Spanish colonization in the 1500 s. One of the most powerful weapons concealed by the European during the Conquest was hegemony. Hegemony is a basic principle of social control, in which a ruling class dominates others ideologically, with a minimum of physical force, by making its dominance seem natural and inevitable (Chasteen, 2001). Thus, by using hegemony, the Spaniard convinced the native peoples of America to accept their place below the Spaniards and forced them to see the conquerors as superior beings worthy of obedience. By establishing their superiority, the Spaniards were able to control and dominate the indigenous people, forcing the Spanish culture, religion, and language onto the population. As a result, indigenous people started to distance themselves from their roots and their own people, creating a damaging prejudice and bigotry that has been passed down through generations in Mexican families. Indigenous people turned against each other. They mixed with the Spaniards creating new castes, dividing the people and providing them with power and social status based on the lightness of their skin. This feeling exists even today, white skinned people are seen as more honest and trustworthy, thus deserving privileges and power; while the darker skinned people are seen as a resemblance of the indigenous people indicating inferiority and implying a need to ...
