2. Finance Systems for Higher Education
Higher education from United States is the best in the world, since it has a good quality. Tulip said,
United States colleges and universities offer more choice, their graduates receive greater wage
premiums, and they attract more than twice as many foreign students as any other country. Actually,
people can see a large difference in wages between people who go to colleges and people who do not
go to colleges. People still go to colleges even if many students need to finance their education. Within
a good quality in higher education, then more and more international students are studying in the
United States. In order to maintain education quality, finance system is significant. It shows how to
balance equity and equality in education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since public expenditure is huge, colleges will function better within sufficient funds. Increased
amount from tuition will help colleges to provide better quality of education. Moreover, the other two
are local taxes of $8.9 billion and ARRA funds of $2.8 billion. These two account for 6% and 2% in
all financial resources, respectively. As we mentioned earlier, ARRA is organized to provide funds to
public schools in a recession time. According to SHEA report, author wrote about that ARRA funds
for public colleges and universities can mitigate tuition increases and layoffs.
And one thing needs to be mentioned is that Very few public institutions have significant non‐
restricted revenue from gifts and endowments to support instruction. Public colleges are largely
different from private colleges, so they do not receive private endowments from rich people and their
alumni. The most important and largest funding is from government. Next, we will explore how
government funding should be distributed. First of all, we need to explore how government funding
comes from. According to SHEA report, state and local government funding for public colleges and
universities comes from the following aspects. These are appropriations from state tax revenue, Non‐
tax appropriations, mostly from state lotteries, Local appropriations, State‐funded endowment
earnings, Oil and mineral extraction fees or other

3. Columbus And Colonialism
During the period of 1760 s to early 1900, due to the Europeans flourishing and growing economic
power, their influence impacted the economic state globally. Through the first colonialism, natives
discovered that in the new world they became known and greatly admired for exporting upscale
goods. As time passed the Europeans views of non European people and cultures reflected intellectual
changes, there is a noticeable shift of characteristics, and complex of superiority towards other races.
The majority of historical interpretations of Columbus for centuries has been an ideal role model and
hero for bringing education to Spain, spreading religion, and new technologies, as a stumble of the
discovery of the New World, however, in recent years a major shift has occurred as historians like
Zinn and others have understood his actions to be tyrannical towards the natives. Additionally, a new
interpretation has emerged challenging the work of Zinn and others because of alternative narrative
accounts that had been ignored. However, this time period, mostly consisted of the growth nuance of
the European superiority. The natives were clear to be one of the main reasons Columbus received an
immense amount of recognition specifically the Arawaks. At the being the 1700 s there was certain
standards of living, cognitive relativism. Their beliefs align with the idea that there is no system of
truth, there was no objective standard of truth. Consequently, Columbus viewed this

put great detail and truth to how the universe began. This story is also composed of a series of the
different thresholds of increasing complexity, these thresholds mark the events that happened after the

In spite of this, how could life possibly emerge? The answer is within the skies. It rained for millions
of years and seas of lava eventually turned into seas of water, becoming a gateway for life to possibly
emerge. Along with this are the other goldilocks conditions such as energy and chemical elements,
mostly carbon which Earth is in abundance of. So now that the Earth became a hospitable place in
which life could emerge, how did it really emerge? Life emerged under the oceanic vents where
simple elements formed amino acids that are keys to creating protein and nucleotides that are keys to
creating DNA the deoxyribose nucleic acid is the key to life as it contains genetic information for what
is to come. Life came from the oceanic vents which had enough heat energy and chemical energy to
form the first prokaryotes the simplest form of cells without a nucleus and was created through
photosynthesis. Then it evolved into something that is more complex which is the eukaryote which
now has a nucleus and organelles that are crucial to life. As life in water emerged and the eukaryotes
bonded together creating multi celled organism, the development of brains made it possible for life to
move to land. This sudden event created mammals which unlike aquatic animals, have fur and the
more obvious qualities of life. These qualities are what scientists call as

7. Argument Against Biosafety Levels
When dangerous diseases like Ebola and the Zika virus infect large populations of people and
becomes a threat to public health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) takes the
lead in responding to them. Microbes that fall into the highest level of containment Biosafety Levels
(BSL) three and four are easily transmissible in the air with little or no treatment available (CDC,
Recognizing Biosafety Levels ). To fight against such threats, the CDC conducts critical research to
track and find what is making people sick and the most effective ways to prevent it (CDC, Mission,
Role, and Pledge ). However, in 2014, news reports emerged of the CDC accidentally sending live
samples of Ebola to a lower level facility and discovering forgotten vials of smallpox in a cardboard
box in a facility owned by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (Young and Penzenstadler, Inside
America s secretive biolabs ). The CDC is reknowned for successfully eradicating diseases like
smallpox and polio, but these incidents damage the reputation of the agency because workers did not

spending funds on lavish furnitures instead of investing them in disease research. As a result, Congress

8. The s Neo Noir Film Bladerunner And Mary Shelley s...
The community surrounding a person, or the lack thereof, can often shape and define one s experience
of the world. Ridley Scott s neo noir film Bladerunner and Mary Shelley s gothic novel Frankenstein,
both of which are science fiction works that explore the complexities of genetic engineering and the
consequences of the hubris it entails, demonstrate how one s prolonged solitude, whether voluntary or
involuntary, results in a warped vision of the world that causes one to act irrationally through the
characters of Victor Frankenstein, his monster and J. F. Sebastian. Firstly, Victor Frankenstein
purposely confines himself to his laboratory, temporarily forgetting about his friends and family, thus
leaving him with no one to caution him against meddling in the science of bestowing life. Seeing as he
has little interest in acquainting himself with the townspeople of Ingolstadt, with the exception of M.
Waldman, Victor fully immerses himself in his studies and becomes increasingly enraptured by his
deranged ideas. He spends so much time endeavouring to finish his project that he no longer takes
care of himself: My cheek had grown pale with study, and my person had become emaciated with
confinement. (81, Shelley). Because Victor s withdrawal from society is deliberate, it is even more
difficult for him to resign from his occupation of creating a new living being, wrongly believing that
this new creature will love and praise him as a god. Perhaps it is the very fact that

Now remember how in point 1 it was mentioned that the best time to trade is when the market is at its
busiest? Here is why This peak time is when the liquidation is at its highest. This is when the most
exchanges happen, which means more opportunities and good deals. This is also when the market s
volatility (currency s price fluctuations) is at its lowest. So it is easier to make a profit in short amount
of time by making a spot trade when the currency s price is good. On the other hand, when the
liquidity is at its lowest, the trades become very slow and the fluctuations of prices happen slowly. It is
also important to mention that the price changes are drastic. Hence, it is very easy to lose money
during this time. 3. Leverage In layman s terms, this feature allows the trader to trade more money
than the amount present in trader s account. This gives the trader a chance at getting hands on huge
profits by investing a small amount. In most cases, the trader gets to choose their own leverage.
Leverage is a ratio. Let s say that you have $500 to invest in your account and that you are entering
into a trade with a leverage ratio of 50:1. This means that for every $1 you can trade for up to $50.
Now for as little as $500, leverage gives you the power to trade up to $25000. 4. Low Capital This
feature is what makes Forex attractive to so many working class individuals. It allows you to start
trading with as little as $100 in the account. 5.

Silver Linings Playbook
The narrative of Silver Linings Playbook is formed in the heart of Philadelphia around a middle class
family at it s breaking point. Pat s, the protagonist, family has very much shaped his current situation;
he has clinical bipolar disorder and struggles with stress induced manic outbursts. After Pat s release
from a mandated rehabilitation center, he handles the next recuperating stage of his life in a similar
way as a quarterback looking to make the next big play on the field; watching for possible blitzes and

Pat and Tiffany are flawed in ways that are more common in human nature than we discuss, or would
like to believe, and offer more depth to the audience than the overly stereotyped flaws of commitment
phobia and unnecessary expression of feelings.
Silver Linings Playbook is shot through Pat s perspective in the present as he navigates his life after he
is released from a psychiatric rehab facility. Russell is able to tell the story of how Pat arrived at the
point he is at through flashbacks triggered by his wedding song and through visits with his court
appointed psychiatrist. The storyline bounces around from different aspects of Pat s life; problems at
home with his parents, his running back to Nikki and away from his new life, and dancing with
Tiffany. The audience is whirled around following it all, as if they too are a part of the obsessive
craziness that is overwhelming and raw in some moments and relaxed and comical in others. In these
ways, the mental illness aspect of the film that has completely shaken up Pat s life, is woven through
for the audience to understand, but is still not a glaring idea that is hard for people to grasp or relate to.
Though the film itself strays from a typical romantic comedy, the structure of Silver Linings Playbook
does not. Romantic comedies usually center on a single person s development through the assistance
of their soon to be partner. The theme is stated within the first ten minutes; in this case, it

Symptoms for ADHD include the inability to sit still while studying or even watching television.
While children suffering from ADD have the inability to stay focused while performing these tasks.
Doctors believe Ritalin acts as a stimulant drug that can be used to increase arousal as well as the
production of neurotransmitters and dopamine inside a child s head (Stammen 24). Although the drug
is not completely understood, this stimulant, also known as Vitamin R, is placed in the hands of nearly
600,000 ADD and ADHD diagnosed children (Brink 79). Research has hypothesized that most ADHD
and ADD children exhibit an increase in attention span and overall improvement in their classroom
behavior. Although Ritalin seems to help, it is far from a cure to this disorder. Yet, the positive results
keep parents agreeing to place their child in the hands of a pill.

private college is so small, the average class size is eighteen, and the student to faculty ratio is an

instrumental ensembles at Wartburg and there is always potential to be more. They allow people to

They even have a community symphony that some selected students can play in. With this, the
students can interact more with the Waverly community and form some important business

15. The Hippies And The Movement Of The Hippie Movement In San...
During the early 1960s the hippies began a movement for the youth in San Francisco; it was a
movement that developed very rapidly around the world. It consisted of a group of people who had an
opposition against the political and social standards. This group of people chose to favor peace, love
and freedom as their way of living. The hippies had their own standards of living, they rejected
institutions and were always criticizing the value of the middle class. Many of them were usually all
about the planet and vegetarians, they also promoted the use of mind blowing drugs. The hippies
created their own communities, listen to heavy rock, embraced sexual revolution, and used drugs to
adventure different stages of consciousness.

Scott McKenzie was in a group called The Journeymen, with whom he performed the song San
Francisco . This was one of the big Hippie hits that took place during the summer of 1967. That
summer was known as, The Summer of Love . This music became popular among the growing peace
activists and folkies. McKenzie mentions in his song that if you go to San Francisco be sure to wear
some flowers in your hair. That became the signature for the hippie era. They would wear flowers in
their hair as well as in their clothes. His type of music was the turning point to the hippy revolution,

An unsure Pope Pius VII, not wanting to place a crown on the head of the soon to be Emperor of
France in the extravagant Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris, who then takes matters into his own hand
and places the crown on his own head (Selin Par. 1, 2, 13). This is the situation of Napoleon
Bonaparte. After overthrowing the Directory in 1799, Napoleon worked to satisfy the needs of the
people and recreate and better the French empire by ratifying reforms, such as the Napoleonic Code
(Ligard Par. 2). This reform, and other aspects of French culture, helped shape the work of the
renowned French novelist, Honore de Balzac. Therefore, France s culture during the years 1800 to
1814 were shaped by its monarchy while the literature of Honore de Balzac evinces its cultural
connection.
From the years 1804 to 1814, also referred to as the Napoleonic Age, France became an empire, ruled
by its first emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. When Bonaparte became emperor in 1804, it was because
the Senate who had all been chosen by Napoleon passed a law making him Emperor of the French
(Wilde Par. 6). If it were not for the people he put in Senate, Napoleon would not have become
emperor because citizens were already beginning to disapprove the changes he was making to their
government. Since he is able to chose men who will support him and follow his commands in Senate,
it reveals how much power Bonaparte really holds in his empire. Bonaparte surrounded himself by his

2016 marks the year of a presidential election and to the larger population the president creates an
image power in the government. He/she is a figurehead and the deciding signature to all legislation
passed by Congress. Though Congress is complicated and now a days doesn t seem to be getting many
bills signed into law. The people of the US still vote for these officials with the hope that these people
will represent the interest and goals of the larger population. Even if that means arguing and having
many negotiations, that s how people believe things get done in Congress. Negotiation is key along
with the tactics used in this process to even start passing or creating a bill in Congress. Both principled
negotiation tactics along with others are used to create movement depending on the situation.
Negotiation is a discussion aimed at making an agreement (Fisher, Ury, Patton, 2011, p. 10). People
use negotiation every day and in almost any situation where they want something else from someone.
Kids, for example, want more TV time so they bargain that if they do more chores they can have more
time watching TV from their parents. Adults tend to use it in their jobs when they have a contract or a
discussion about their salary with their boss. Larger groups such as unions also can negotiate for
contracts with larger companies and advocate for many people not just one. Congress needs to do this

most likely kids to be bullied are gay or are perceived to be gay, and in a nationally representative
sample 1/3 of 3,500 students were bullied due to sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation.
Thereby, illustrating that even though times are changing, there are still several issues concerning
sexual orientation. Though the LGBT community has made headway, especially with the Obergefell v.
Hodges case decision, they have had to deal with a large amount disparity, much more than there
heterosexual counterparts relative to issues of love, marriage, intimacy, and relations. Ultimately, there
are still issues facing the LGBT community, but with the ruling in the Obergefell v. Hodges case, there
is evidence of those issues, as they pertain to equality, being addressed.
Case Presentation:
Facts of the Case: Obergefell v. Hodges has been addressed several times throughout the introduction
and is not only one of the most recent victories, but also one of the most substantial in terms of
equality. This case got its start because four states (Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan) defined
marriage as being between a man and a woman, and then six cases in the respective states challenged
that definition. In Tennessee s Tanco v. Haslam, three same sex couples married, validly, outside of the
state, and then moved to Tennessee, where their marriages were no longer recognized due to the
aforementioned definition of marriage in the state of Tennessee. District Court Judge

Family Law is an area of law that covers a wide spectrum. From amiable prenuptial agreements to
bitterly contested custody battles, Family Law has something for everyone.
I believe that a good paralegal in a practice that specializes in divorce would need to be a people
person who has excellent communication skills. She may need to help the attorney put the client at
ease while still maintaining a sense of strength for an emotionally and I or physically abused client.

An attorney and the paralegal should be seen as being fair and equitable concerning the division of
those important days when they are trying to help the parents
reach a compromise. A skilled legal team needs to be able to help the parents communicate and reach
reasonable arrangements that are in the best interest of the children as opposed to what will irritate the
non custodial parent the most.
Division of marital assets is emotionally charged as well. If the home is awarded to the wife but she
can only afford to keep it if the husband continues making his child support and alimony payments,
she would have the added stress of possibly losing the home if he chooses to discontinue his
payments. She would then have to try to work out some kind of refinancing or sell the home. Once
again she might need the support of her legal team to help her maneuver through the choppy waters of
possibly having to uproot her children from the only home they have ever known.
These are only a few of the areas in which a paralegal and her attorney would need good
communication skills. They would also need the ability to zealously defend their client as she works

20. Luminol And Crime Scene Investigation
Blood is one of the most important evidence that can be found at the crime scene since violence
always happens in the criminal event. The search of blood is mostly done by close observation of
investigators, however, sometimes blood in the crime scene will be wiped out by the murderer, or,
sometimes the amount of blood will be too little to be observed without the assistance of other
substance. For this kind of situation, luminol can be used in order to help criminalists to detect blood
in the crime scene.

dabbled in film. She works in the modern digital age as well as exploring historical processes of
photography. These include, polaroids, hand colouring, using the dark rooms to develop film, and
many other alternatives. Powell has a particular interest in the abandoned, places or things that may
appear ugly on the outside but have their own weird hidden treasures. She explains that it s neat to see
how nature takes back these places. She also photographs small towns and the more rural lifestyle. My

I like this ad. I can see myself being in the model s shoes with ease. I find the tone of the headline (i.e.

sometimes feel intimidated and alienated by the hardcore athletes ridden in Nike ads as a dancer. I don
t fall into the typical sports categories Nike targets so their models and athletes don t appeal to me. I
am serious about dance, however, so I find that Brooks messaging and quality is a suitable middle

23. Efficacy Of Treatment For Social Phobia
Review
A couple of researchers at the Anxiety Disorders Research Center in the Department of Psychology at
the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) examined weaknesses of CBT (Craske et al.,
2014). Although CBT has been known for the most effective treatment for social phobia, not all
patients show improvements after the treatment. Patients easily drop out during, or at the early stage
of the treatment. Even patients who successfully finished the entire session tend to have a hard time
continuing to use methods they learned and to maintain low level of anxiety, so the likelihood of
reoccurrence exists. Therefore, alternative ways to solve these weaknesses are needed in order to
develop the treatment itself and to provide the most matchable treatment method for each patient,
according to the article by Craske et al. (2014).
The goals of this study were to examine the efficacy of ACT compared to CBT and to find the
intermediating risk factors of each treatment (Craske et al., 2014). The first hypothesis was that social
anxiety disorder patients who have a moderate level of cognitive misappraisals will show better
improvements if they received CBT compared to ACT. In addition, researchers hypothesized that
patients who received CBT also will outperform patients receiving ACT when they have a high level
of avoidance. Another hypothesis they chose to examine was that with a comorbid mood disorder,
social anxiety disorder patients will show better outcomes with ACT than

24. Roman Roads Research Paper
At the peak of the Roman Empire, there were over 250,000 miles of roads that connected nearby cities
to Rome. Over 50,000 miles were paved roads that allowed quicker and safer travel for the Roman
army, officials, messengers, and trading of goods. The road system was much like modern day roads
including mile markers, inns, restaurants, and protection. With a simple yet advanced design, Roman
roads paved the way for Roman conquest and a superior authority throughout the Roman Empire.
These roads allowed for faster and easier transportation, encouraging people to journey near and far.
Although the Romans persecuted early Christians, Roman roads played a vital role in the spread of
Christianity which would eventually spread throughout the Roman ... Show more content on

Along the Roman roads were state operated lodgings and way stations. Stations were established
(stationes), some of them only to change horses (mutationes), others for overnight stops (mansiones).
Augustus was the one that ordered the entire road network inventory, charging M. Agrippa with that
responsibility (Zaharia, Aurel). Located every ten miles was horse changing stations, where
government travelers could exchange out their tired horse or donkey. These were particularly
important for tax collectors and message delivery, as they were required to travel great distances at
rapid speed. Stopping frequently at these changing stations could allow travelers to go three times
further than maintain the same horse. Positioned approximately every twenty miles were hotels that
offered all the necessities for an overnight stop.
Roman roads were also well protected and patrolled by smaller branches of the Roman army. Most
often the soldiers that were assigned to patrol the roads were lower ranking soldiers known as
stationarii. Stationarii soldiers were usually positioned at a post for an average term of two years.
Along with handling local protection and intervention these soldiers were required to oversee the
nearby roads. Watchtowers and post could be found in high traffic as well as isolated areas to offer
assistance to weak travelers, transmit messages, and look out for runaway

25. Example Of Piracy Research Paper
Pirates are criminals who steal vessels, people and goods on the sea and coastal areas. Privateers were
privately owned ships that captured sea trade under orders from various governments. Buccaneers
were government sponsored pirate crews who attacked Spanish ships in the Caribbean during the 17th
century. Terms privateers and buccaneers are today both synonyms for piracy. The earliest example of
piracy is recorded in 14th century BC Mediterranean.
First, a pirate attack that significantly endangered any country was pirate attacks on Olympos in 3rd
century BC. Earliest pirates came from first nations who used the ocean for commerce Illyrians,
Tyrrhenians, Greeks, and Romans. A pirate who served as the largest motivation for generations of
other pirates after him was Henry Every, English pirate who managed not only to capture largest pirate

such events were ever verified, one by English captain Francis Drake, who buried cargo of Silver, and

History of the American Mafia
Imagine living in a world where crime ruled. A world where gangsters were more powerful than
politicians, owned the police, and ran the city in whatever way they felt. They robbed whom they
wanted and killed when they didn t get their way. Now stop imagining and realize that this happened
here in the United States of America in the 1920 s. It was run by an organization made up mainly of
Italians called the Mafia. The word Mafia itself has many meanings. In Arabic it means refuge , which
refers to the origins of the Mafia as a society that fled to the hills of Italy to avoid attack. Some
Italians hold it as a word of high respect implying strength, courage, agility, quickness, endurance, and

Mafia families powerful and prosperous. As the Mafia grew in America, they prospered off illegal
gambling and prostitution. It wasn t until 1919 with the ratification of the 18th Amendment to the
Constitution that the Mafia really gained power. The 18th amendment banned the distribution and
manufacturing of alcoholic beverages in America (Prohibition 2). Although this amendment meant
nothing but good, it did the exact opposite to America. While politicians saw an improved nation with
this amendment, criminals saw green. Americans now thought drinking as a thrill, it was something
illegal that they can do but get away with. It was the rush of getting away with it that made
speakeasies so popular. Speakeasies were Mafia run entertainment clubs, consisting of an open bar of
the finest bootlegged liquor along with dining and entertainment (Prohibition 5). One of the most
successful Mafia bosses involved in bootlegging and prostitution was Charles Lucky Luciano. He was

31. Art Reflection Paper
When I visited the Tampa Museum of Art, I walked around looking at all of the beautiful artwork on
display. I chose a piece that stuck out to me and reminded me of the carnivals and fairs I went to
growing up in my hometown with family. Choosing just one piece to write about was a difficult
decision, but I chose to write about Carrousels by Don Jacot. This piece was created with oil on linen
in 1992 and is 50x72 . I believe the subject matter of this piece has to do with childhood and
memories. I noticed in this piece that there were not many people on the rides or around the picture at
all. This interested me, so I decided to look at other artworks he has created and most of the others are
empty as well. I feel this has something to do with him having an empty childhood, but still has the
memories of him going out. He also tends to lean more towards using the brighter primary colors such
as red, blue, and yellow. I figured he chose these because a child would be more fascinated in
something bright and colorful instead of dull and plain. One of the formal elements that stood out to
me the most was color. I chose this because color is such a big aspect in this piece of work. Blue, red,
and yellow are the most used in this work and are brightly intensified. The vibrant colors caught my
eye right away when I saw the picture. The second formal element that is shown in this picture is line.
I feel this element goes with the picture because there are many geometrical shapes and lines that
direct you to certain aspects. One of the main eye catching features is the Ferris wheel in the
background. The wheel catches the eye because all of the lines in the middle draw attention to it. The
tents on top of the rides in the back, the fence, and poles/bars on the ride are all very clean cut. Overall
the lines in the work lead your eye all around the composition of the piece. Another element that I
thought this picture has is shape. Shape is significant as well because the lines in the picture form
these figures. For example, the lines that are used on top of the ride tents form triangles, which lead
back to shape. This picture includes many geometrical forms all around the work such as the
rectangular benches, the

Identity is an extremely tricky thing. Over the years, people have failed to define it properly. It is both
elusive and complicated. In Jean Luc Nancy s Identity, he struggles to explain that mysterious puzzle
that is an entity s identity.
Right at the start of Nancy s Identity, Nancy stresses that the state has no power over a nation s
identity. He declares, the state is only ever the instrument of the nation: It is not its role to define, and
even less to constitute, the identity of the nation (Nancy 1). Right away, this shows that identity is a
sort of hard to truly pin down. It is somewhat ethereal in nature. More importantly though, he stresses

33. Homelessness And Poverty And Homelessness
Imagine a world where it is illegal to sit down. Could you survive if there were no place you were
allowed to fall asleep, to store your belongings, or to stand still? For most of us, these scenarios seem
unrealistic to the point of being ludicrous. But, for homeless people across America, these
circumstances are an ordinary part of life. (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty 7)
While a portion of today s society turns a blind eye to the subject of the criminalization of
homelessness, an even larger quantity of people are not aware of the situation that is happening in
every major city of America. For those living an affluent lifestyle, it can be difficult to discuss the
amount of poverty and homelessness that is constantly occurring. The definition and meaning behind
the absence of home is also arduous to discuss. While homelessness is commonly associated with
sleeping outside or in provisional areas, this word also identifies with an absence of belonging. This
absence of belonging can relate not only to a community, but also to the people that dwell there
(Baumohl 3). Within the portion of those who are aware of the homelessness situation, there is a
section that detests the poverty stricken persons of our society. These biased members of the American
population express their antipathy in several ways. It is necessary to reveal the privileges that
homeless persons have been violently stripped of, and expose and broadcast the freedom they are
entitled to. Through

35. The Fire And Symbolism In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
The Road: Summer Assignment Throughout the novel, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, McCarthy
repetitively uses symbolism to portray several deeper themes throughout the novel. One theme of the
symbolism that is mentioned many times in The Road is the fire. A significant occurrence of this is
when the man is discussing the fire with the boy. Is the fire real? I don`t know where it. Yes you do. It
s inside you. It always was there. I can see it (McCarthy 279).The fire represents the hope for
humanity, and the man sees the fire inside the boy. The boy shows compassion for everything, alive or
dead. Not only does the fire symbolize the hope for humanity but it represents strength and the will to
live. During the novel fires are lit to keep The Man and Boy safe and warm but the fire keeps them
alive even in the heart of the storm. There are more significant symbols in the novel such as The Boy.
The Man and Boy fight to survive many hardships, but through the darkness there is light, The Boy.
He is very mature and cares for every stray person they pass. One person he cares for is a man named
Ely, an old man with nothing but the clothes on his back, until he meets The Boy and his father. You
should thank him you know, I wouldn t have given you anything (McCarthy 173). The Boy wants
everyone to survive and is willing to share his supplies even if it means he won`t have all the things he
needs to live. In addition to using symbolism McCarthy utilizes imagery as well. A

37. Lie and Man Deciphers Truth Essay
As a society, we have become so accustomed to metaphors and empty truths that we absent mindedly
accept them. But if society is told a lie and believes it, does that turn the lie into the truth? For
example, in the beginning of the human s reign on this planet, humans thought the earth was flat only
to be proven that the earth was in fact round. But if ordinary humans were told that the earth is flat and
they accept that as the truth, live their life as though it is true, then what makes it untrue? Someone
must come along to convince the population that their truth, the earth is round, a valid and have it be
accepted. Nietzsche mostly talks about how man deciphers truth in his essay; however Nietzsche
cannot avoid mentioning lying because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overtime, these designations have become permanently engraved into our lives and become accepted
as truths . We forget that these words and definitions have been created as representations. Nietzsche
says Truths are illusions which we have forgotten are illusions. (Nietzsche, 455) Nietzsche finds that
he believes that exact truth does not exist. There is no whole truth for society. However, its seems that
there can be truth but it can only operate individually because everyone s idea of truth is different.
When someone believes their own truth, their truths become their reality. So your own definition of
what is truth is based upon your perception of the concepts, supported by your life experiences and the
knowledge you have retained throughout your life. This is when truth starts to become individualized
and varies from person to person.
There is also quite a distinction between a lie and a difference in opinion. When two people disagree
on a subject and argue why they think that they are right, one will often accuse the other of making
something up or lying about certain aspects of the argument. However, when two onions collide,
neither party should accuse the other of being false. Both parties are equally right and wrong because
obviously in the individuals own view of what is real, their opinion is true. But when observing both
opposing parties, they are wrong because their opinions don t agree.

Americans should consider a less conventional way of meeting a potential partner that would one day

is a mutual decision. A professor of Sociology conducted a study that showed 35% of 200 married
couples in America would press a button that could dissolve their marriage if they were given the
