The Engineer Extraordinaire
An engineering career can give options to a college graduate that are hard to match. Engineering is a
rewarding career path that requires hard work, and dedication. The hard work of a prospective
engineer can be shown in the benefits he receives upon entering the workforce. For example,
according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the starting salaries of engineers are among the highest in
the nation ( Engineers , 2012, para. 4). Good things come to those who work hard. Mechanical
Engineering Information.com would agree in mentioning that because engineering is so applicable to
everyday situations, engineers can find work almost anywhere ( Mechanical Engineering salary ,

Electricalenginneeringsalary.com tells of how an electrical engineer can earn an annual salary of
$55,353 at most with less than one year of experience ( Electrical Engineering Salary , 2012).
Mechanical engineers, according to Mechanicalengineeringinformation.com, can receive up to the
average base salary which, ...is around $66,000 per year ( Mechanical Engineering Salary , 2012). As
history progressed, the need for engineers greatly increased and more people were willing to pay for a
good engineer. The World Book verifies that it was around the time of the industrial revolution that the
role of engineers expanded more rapidly ( Engineering , 1999). Ever since then, the need for engineers
has grown even more. Engineering Degrees 101.com states that today, the body of engineers in the
U.S. is 1.5 million strong and still growing ( How long does it take to become an engineer? , 2012). It
would appear that these people liked being paid a lot of money, so they became engineers.
Quite often, prospective engineers partake in more than 4 years of college, but other options are
available. Sometimes an individual does not require any more than 2 years of education in
engineering. According to Worldwidelearn.com, Some engineering schools and 2 year colleges have
agreements whereby the 2 year college provides the initial engineering education ( Mechanical
Engineers , 2003, para. 10). A field as broad as mechanical engineering often

From temples of sacred objects, to repositories of colonial trophies, and from monuments of civility,
to spaces for self expression and empowerment, the shape, the function and the appeal of the museum
trough history and across cultures has been fashioned by the preoccupations and expectations of each
society that has chosen to construct them. Wondrous and monstrous, extraordinary and mysterious.
Wonders of nature, culture and science fruits and spoils of Renaissance age of discovery found their
way into European cabinets of curiosity those days collection included works of art, precious gems,
outlandish fruits, four footed beasts, an Indian lip stone, blood that rained in the Isle of Wight, unicorn
s horns, dragons bones. Cabinets of exotic and rare objects were privately owned by collectors, often
royal or aristocratic. Such cabinets demonstrated the owner s wealth and prestige, on one hand, but on
another level, their intention was to genuinely arouse curiosity and wonder. Then along came the
Enlightenment and the French and American Revolutions. A new museum order responded to, and
even served to make manifest, a new world order. Museums including Louvre, the British Museum
and Peale s Museum, began to open to the public from the mid to late 1700s. Previously private
collections were converted into public exhibitions, an

Maria Montessori Education Essay
Maria Montessori was born on August 31,1870 in Chiaravalle, Marche, Italy to a financial manager
father and an educated mother who highly valued education. Due to this, Montessori was a properly
educated woman with a talent and passion for higher education which was extremely unusual for an
Italian woman during her time. In the 19th century there was much controversy on whether children
belonged in the work field or in the classroom. Based on their families social class a child would
either go work at factories to help their family make money, or go to school to get a basic education.
In the mid 19th century some European countries outlawed sending young children to work in
factories in an attempt to promote general education for all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This also suggests that teachers should facilitate this process by knowing the best time to teach
children certain things. The third premises of this learning theory is sensitive time which is the right
time to introduce children to different learning concepts. Each child develops at a different pace so it
is important that teachers recognize the correct sensitive times to introduce new concepts based on
individual needs. The prepared environment is the fourth premises of her theory which means that the
teacher preselects the learning materials she wants her students to be exposed to during class time.
Teachers manipulate and prepare the classroom environment so that students have specific choices to
guide their experience towards what is planned for their development. The last premises of Montessori
s learning theory is auto education which is often seen as the main goal of the Montessori method.
Auto education is when children teach themselves by making choices and experiencing things in the
planned environment. Montessori used these premises to create 4 unique planes of development which
track children s development and outline what environmental changes need to be made to ensure the
appropriate learning experience for children. The first plane, infancy, lasts

Abstract
I was a sophomore in High School in New Haven , Michigan when In school I decided to walk home
and skip school, my house was empty at the time so I decided to go into my room and take a nap and
that s when it happened for the very first time. I had awakened and I felt this heavy weight on my
body and another feeling that I can only describe as if someone is lying on top of me, forcing me
down (hence holding my whole body down) holding my lips and eyelids shut. I could hear though.
This lasted for about 10 seconds. During these 10 seconds all sorts of thoughts started running through
my mind questioning the reality of this phenomenon and even extended to states where I ... Show

Sexual Assault of Women in the Military
Women are a great strength and function unit in the United States Military today. The issues of sexual
assault are affecting women serving in the battlefield which feminists would be concerned. The U.S.
servicewomen in the military who have returned from war, the quantity of sexual assault they are
forced to endure has not only been amplified, but disregarded and not picked up by military officials
and fellow soldiers. Sexual assault is well defined and occurs when a woman is not interested
engaging, but forced upon to have a sexual activity with the perpetrator that could to lead rape and
other unwanted sexual contact. But one question is to be inquired, is Sexual Assault on military
women a scorching subject would the American public consider investigating and labeling it as a
national issue? These sources offer different perspectives revolving around the issue. The first source

Cognitive Neurological Connections
The field of cognitive neuroscience seeks to understand the processes underlying cognition and neural
connections. One major subfield of neuroscience utilizes electrophysiological properties of the brain
to record neural activity through electrodes on the scalp (EEG). Furthermore, the analysis of the signal
to noise ratios leads to event related potentials (ERPs). These event related potentials measure the
brain s response to specific cognitive events. Also through previous research ERP s have been
correlated with face perception in humans and monkeys; subsequently, prosopagnosia and lesion
studies in the inferior occipitotemporal region bolsters the notion that the brain utilizes specific areas
to perceive faces (Bentin et al., 1996). Additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He established that the N170 reacted best to human faces compared to animal faces, cars, scrambled
pictures, or hands. However, the N170 reacted the highest when volunteers were presented pictures of
isolated eyes. This indicated that the neural mechanism is fine tuned to identify human physiognomic
features. Bentin discovered the importance the N170 performs in the perception facial expressions.
Furthermore, he challenged the assumption that inversion of faces impaired the structural encoding
phase by presenting volunteers with inverted and upright faces. The amplitude and distribution of the
N170 of the upright and inverted faces was particularly analogous, and this lead to the impression that
this specific ERP component encodes facial structures in lieu of an entire face. Furthermore, Bentin
also noted the differences in the recordings of the scalp recorded N170 to the subdural N200. There is
a 20msec latency in the N200 recordings, and the N200 recordings are correlated with the fusiform
face specific processing. While the N200 structurally encodes the face, the N170 is a specific eye
processor that interprets gaze and orientation. Additional studies verified the conjecture that the N170
is targeted for eyes. In one experiment when the eyes were directed to the viewer compared to gazing
away a larger N170 was noted (McCarthy et al., 1999). This principal attribute of human eye
recognition

Competitive Authoritarianism And Political Authoritarianism
1. competitive authoritarianism competitive authoritarianism
Levitsky and Way describe, a competitive authoritarianism is, in essence, a democracy but it lacks
proportional representation and most of the elections and government institutions are predisposed to
only the elites. Juan Linz describes this as a diminished form of authoritarianism. In competitive
authoritarianism regimes, elections are normally rigged, power figures regularly misuse state
resources while oppressed are denied simple liberties. Anyone who is opposed is often killed or jailed.
Competitive Authoritarianism is not an authoritarian and is not quite a democracy, but it has
democratic institutions in place and incumbents cannot reduce them.
2. perils of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Political reform is often resulting in increased demands of oppressed and weaken state. New
democracies tend to have security problems and questions of the democratic governance. The state
must instill stability and social control; thus a weak state will fail. Democracy, however, can achieve
peace by allocating power through elections, manage diversity without violence, and create political
positions. State and nation building, integration, and a development of a unified ideology can be a
strategy to promote democratic consolidation.
5. resource curse and the transition to democracy
Countries that do not promote accountability and state competence to benefit from resource booms are
at risk of the resource curse. The resource curse is when resource rich countries benefit from its
wealthy natural resources (i.e. oil) and do not help with its people welfare. Its government officials are
less likely to meet the demands of its people because they are too busy pocketing the cash. These
countries are more deceptable to authoritarianism, low levels of economic growth and stability.
Wealthy natural resources can promote power conflicts and corrupt governments. Countries that have
a resource curse are more likely to transition to democracy when its large revenue comes from citizens
taxes.

Techniques In Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption is more than just a film outlining the burden of isolation and
imprisonment. It is an insight into the minds of imprisoned men, who have to face terrible hardship
while trying to live out their days doing hard labour. This film takes us through the way in which the
men try feel more human. This is evident in the way the prisoners morals are tested, the friendships
made over time as well as what the life of imprisonment can do to a man s thinking on revenge and
trust.

Andy admits as much when he tells Red that sometimes he imagines stepping right through the
photograph and into another life. More literally, Rita Hayworth really does remind Andy of his desire
to actually break out of Shawshank because of the chiseled hole in the concrete that the posters
conceal. As a result, Rita Hayworth embodies the sense of hope that keeps Andy alive and sane and
distinguishes him from the other inmates.
Jake the crow represents hope and freedom. Brooks releases Jake before he leaves prison on parole
and this symbolizes the setting free of the old Brooks, the inmate Brooks. He is now free as a bird, no
longer will he live out his days behind bars. It also represents Brooks letting go of any hope of
surviving on the outside. He symbolically looks for Jake in the park but finds neither the crow nor
hope outside prison.

Forbidden Knowledge In Dr. Faustus And The Machine Stops
The concept of forbidden knowledge is merely a blockade to what lies beyond the wider scope of
human experience. Thus, forbidden knowledge as we know it is nothing more than a liability to the
harsh reality of life. In the case of Never Let Me Go, forbidden knowledge is present in that Kathy is
truly unaware of what life has in store for her. She does not understand the restrictions of her life, nor
how vital her physical body is to the donations of humanity. With that said, the theme of forbidden
knowledge is also present in Dr. Faustus, and The Machine Stops, for the characters in both novels are
equally intent on comprehending what lies beyond their physical realms. While the concept of
forbidden knowledge is present throughout the diverse works of literature, it is also present in my own
life. Not only has forbidden knowledge sparked an interest in my ability to surpass milestones, but it
has also altered my perception of the world as well. Having considered that each of the three novels
depicts the concept of forbidden knowledge, it is quite evident that forbidden knowledge is something
that humans are constantly pursuing.
At any rate, Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro outlines the notion of forbidden knowledge in that
Kathy, Tommy, and Ruth, are all unaware of how detrimental their livelihood is to the well being of
humanity. Throughout the novel, there is a constant feeling of uncertainty, in which the clones are
limited to what they know. For example, the clones

Physical Therapy Is The Health Profession
Physical therapy is the health profession that provides treatment and management of physical
disability, malfunction, or pain via various modalities, and without the use of medicines, surgery, or
radiation [1]. An individual who practices physical therapy is known as a physical therapist. Physical
therapists are experts of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, and they evaluate and treat
patients for issues that involve those systems [2]. The role of a physical therapist is to evaluate
patients, and to provide treatment to patients that focus primarily on movement. This includes, but is
not limited to, restoration of movement as well as improving movement, reducing pain levels,
returning function that may have been lost, and improving function.[2] The most predominant clinical
setting where physical therapists... provide care include hospitals, outpatient clinics, private practices,
nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health, school systems, and sport centers [2]. Typically,
to receive access to the services provided by a physical therapist, a patient has to be referred to a
physical therapist by a physician. [2] Therefore, physical therapy is usually a secondary health care.
The profession of physical therapy sounds fantastic, because it is. However, the art of physical therapy
wasn t just born a perfect creature; it took some time to develop as a great profession.
The official history of physical therapy is a history that is quite new, and barely dates

The Rise of a Mash-up Culture Essay
A great deal has been said about the move from physical media to a ubiquitous, digital culture. Some
decry the downfall of the vinyl record, falling compact disc sales, the cheapening and degrading of an
art form. I ll try to stay away from unverifiable judgements about the direction modern culture is
moving in. More interesting is the way musical creation is changing as a result of new technologies,
whether we like it or not. What comes to mind is hyperreality what Jean Baudrillard called the
generation by models of a real without origin or reality (166). Digital representations, originally
intended to recreate the original sound waves of the music, are losing their point of origin and
becoming musical works on their own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its pointless to look for the original blueprint of a digital representation, because it s independent of
the hardware it s stored in, and meaningful only in the information it encodes. Hyperreality results
from a loss of distinction between the representations and the things they re intended to represent. In
our culture, the separation between a song and the digital file of a song is becoming trivial. Computers
allow information to be torn free of its original context, and reinterpreted upon retrieval.
Representation engines are the ideal enablers of hyperreality, giving almost limitless power to reorder
simulacra upon simulacra.
The internet takes the representational capacities of computers, and spreads them over a vast symbolic
network. Anyone with an internet connection instantly gains manipulative control over a whole world
of digital abstractions. These have the unique property of not being tied down to any specific physical
origin. It follows that they re infinitely recreatable, and intimately tied to their user defined context.
This decontextualization began, to a lesser extent, with the advent of audio cassettes, allowing the
creation of mix tapes. A mix tape lets the listener take small parts (usually whole songs) from different
physical source material (records), and combine them into a new whole, consisting of copied parts.
This process, known as dubbing, creates an experience that is, at least in part, distinct from each

The Mystery Of The Myth
The myth is the belief that some languages just aren t good enough because they do not fulfill certain
criteria. Criteria such as not being able to act as a medium of speech to express new ideas, to speak of
science, to speak of high literature, and to be used internationally without having to borrow
vocabulary from other languages. English is probably the most infamous case of this myth being false.
As we know it English is probably one of the most widely spoken languages. English has the ability to
clearly express ones ideas, converse scientific terms, and speak of high literature. However many of
English s vocabulary are borrowed from Latin, French, and many other languages. Under the criteria
of those that believe that some languages are not good enough, English is not good enough as a
language since it borrows vocabulary from other languages. But this is not true since English is a very
prominent language and is very able to express new ideas of all kinds. Another famous example that
can be used to debunking this myth would be in the case of Latin. When Latin first arose the Greek s
believed that Latin just wasn t good enough to be able to express complex thoughts. However as we
know today this is terribly false. Latin was one of the most wide spread languages that we know of
today. Latin was also at one time a lingua franca. It was used as a common language between speaks
of different native languages to express ideas. Not only was Latin used in science,

Misogyny Reoccurs In Candide
Voltaire, the pen name of François Marie Arouet, was very creative in his way of outing the pure
ridiculousness of the ideas and morals of 18th century Europeans. In the mid 1700 s, Voltaire penned
the adventures of Candide s quest to find his love, and how his innocence is corrupted along the way.
Candide possesses many main ideas, including misogyny, the exploitation of women, the unholy acts
that holy men perform, and the fatal flaws of optimism, which leads me to believe that 18th century
Europe was doomed to a fate of death, terror, and violence.
The theme of misogyny reoccurs throughout the entire story of Candide and scenes of violence and
the rape of women imply that these were common occurrences at this time. As Candide deserts ...

ironically breaks this promise by stealing the gold and jewels from Cunegonde. This man who
promised to live in poverty sins when he falls into the trap of thinking money equals happiness and
becomes a thief. Voltaire proves that no matter who you are, sinning is inevitable; religion is shown to

Prison Open, By George W. Bush
George W. Bush once said America is the land of the second chance and when the gates of the prison

viewed as truth about the persona of America, but is this quote realistic? Realistic in some point s
because the path after prison should lead to better life. When you analyze the part that says land of
second chances, that phrase in a lot of cases doesn t exactly fit this country in some ways. Are men

The Conflict Between The United States And The Middle East...
The conflict between the United States and the Middle East is of great concern in the world today
because of the heightened tensions in Syria, which is being terrorized by the radical Islamic group
called ISIS. ISIS is not only creating conflict in the Middle East, they are also a homeland security
threat to the United States because of the fear of terrorist attacks. Scholars and Theorists like Samuel
Huntington have addressed the question of why states are experiencing heightened tension and have
concluded that conflict in states or between states is the result of ethnic differences, namely religion
and culture. Samuel Huntington s essay, Clash of Civilizations, is extremely interesting because I
always questioned what would have happened if every race were to stay in the territories they
inhabited, like North America where Aboriginals settled, and the Middle East where the Arabians
settled. Samuel Huntington s essay invites you to ponder the idea that each civilization has different
cultural and religious differences and that these differences clash and result in conflict between
civilizations. Although Samuel Huntington s essay is intriguing, there are misconceptions about his
ideas regarding Muslims. This essay will analyze the historical misconceptions that Samuel
Huntington portrays, which are his view of Muslims and Christians always being at war, his lack of
knowledge of the Crusades, and his idea of the West is the best . The first problem with Samuel

The Decline Of Western Culture
Schaeffer Critique
Purpose of Text and Intended Audience The purpose of the book is to discuss the decline of Western
culture by analyzing history from his perspective from Rome to his present day (the 1970 s). Schaeffer
(2005) presents the idea that to redeem society Christians must live as God desires and completely live
by the Bible s teachings of morals and values. The intended audience would be Christians, because the
entire tone of the book comes from a Christian worldview. Although, non believers may read the book,
they may not glean insights from it like believers.
Thesis and Bias Schaeffer s (2005) thesis was on how we should live now by understanding our
history and culture through philosophical, scientific, and religious knowledge. Throughout the book
Schaeffer (2005) displays bias because the book is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the
way history is presented is skewed due to his Christian intent.
Theoretical Assumptions and Issues One of the first concepts Schaeffer (2005) explores in the book is
the significance of peoples presuppositions of Western history. Schaeffer (2005) believes that
everyone has presuppositions and that they are gained through our family, peers, and our culture. His
issue is that Western Civilization is declining and tracing history can shed light on why and how we

Why Do Mothman Exist
I ve seen him, I swear. This is my own statement of evidence. Mothman has been seen around the
Point Pleasant area for many years. There is a lot of evidence that a bird as big as a man exists. People
do not believe in the Mothman because it is impossible to breed a moth and a human. There is a lot of
proof that says that the Mothman exists. A moth like humanoid creature really exists in this world.
There is a variety of descriptions and behaviors of Mothman. There have been countless sightings of
him. He was seen at the Silver Bridge before it collapsed. The bridge was built in the year of 1928. It
joined Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Gallipolis, Ohio. Mothman was spotted hanging onto the
side of the bridge before the collapse. The bridge collapsed into the Ohio River ... Show more content

There are many credible resources and witnesses that have seen him or know people that have seen
this strange moth like creature. A woman named Mrs. Bennett claimed, it seemed like it had been
lying down, slowly rising up from the ground, large and gray, with glowing red eyes. While Wamsley
phoned the police, the creature walked onto the porch and peered in at them through the window
(Storyteller). People have taken photographs of this creature. A man driving in Point Pleasant spotted
and photographed what appears to be Mothman (Seaburn). A man walking on State Route 2 on a
Sunday evening saw a strange creature jumping from tree to tree and appeared to be flying so the man
took photos of the creature. There is no proof that the photos were not altered with. He said I
definitely know the Mothman is real (Pierson). A dog went missing after he chased after the Mothman.
He was a coon hunting dog and when he saw the Mothman he ran after it. The dog s owner tried
calling for the dog and the dog never called back or showed back up to the house. Another couple that
saw the Mothman drove by a dead dog on State Route 62. Mothman is said to be the culprit of the

Comparing Ghiberti, Hieronymus Bosch, And Christopher Wren
Looking back on the past, art, music, and literature played an important role in society. Compared to
today, it still has that same effect. It s inspiring and changing society in many different ways. Art has a
power of expressing what we humans can t explain. It brings out a feeling in all of us that s
unimaginable and unexplainable. Religion has served as a primary subject matter of art. However,
there are many views when it comes to the relationship between humans and God. Three artists from
three different time periods explore the comparisons between art and religion. Lorenzo Ghiberti,
Hieronymus Bosch, and Christopher Wren have explored the idea that art has influenced religion and
that it s meaning is one we cannot fully explain. All three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul s Cathedral, designed by Christopher Wren represents religion because it had a profound
influence on society during that time. When the Great Fire of 1666 occurred, London faced many
struggles. Almost 100,000 people were left homeless according to our text and society felt powerless.
They had lost faith in life and ultimately God. When the St. Paul s Cathedral was finished, it gave the
city hope for a greater world full of many opportunities. The use of certain shapes and simple
symmetry resembled true architecture and power. This building fully supports that art had great
influence on religion in London. It was a place where people could feel safe and pray. It was a cultural

Inclusion For Students With Special Needs
In the Education discipline, there has been a long debate for many years over the topic of inclusion.
Inclusive education is defined as students with disabilities, being supported in age appropriate general
education classrooms, at their home school, and receiving specialized instruction as needed per the
student s IEP (Individualized Education Program) within the general education class curriculum and
activities. Inclusion is there to help student with special needs in attending school regularly with their
friends and peers while being accommodated as needed, per their IEP, to help achieve the student s
academic goals and be successful. The topic of inclusion has been researched for many years.
Inclusion will continue to be researched, so that faculty and teachers at elementary schools can
continue to better themselves in inclusion practices for students with special need, and also to continue
to progress towards full inclusion of these students with special needs in a general education
classroom. Since there is a lot in the news about inclusion in schools across the U.S., for this essay, I
began my search about inclusion in the Education discipline by finding scholarly articles on the
subject, along with other online news sources concerning this subject in my area of study. By doing
so, I hope to have a better understanding of inclusion than I have already attained, so that I am better
able to create possible ideas for topics to write future essays throughout this

Literary Analysis Of Esperanza Rising
Literary Analysis of Esperanza Rising
Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. It is a figure of speech that is used
when an author wants to create certain moods or emotions, deepen the story s message, and secretly
tell the readers what could happen later in the story. The novel Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz
Ryan, is a story of struggle, hardship and determination following Esperanza, her family, and servants
as they flee from Mexico to California. The author uses a specific fruit as the title of each chapter to
symbolize emotions or events occurring within the chapters. Three specific chapters which truly use
symbolism to signify emotions are Figs, Plums, and Guavas. Figs represent a new beginning while

bowel movements and diaper changes. Esperanza was able to overcome the challenging day but the
plums will likely be a symbol of her and struggle to her and the author uses the figs as a literary

Essay On The Mayan Ballgame Sacrifice
In the realm of the Classic Maya ballgame, there is much speculation based off carvings, and there
exists little concrete knowledge. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where sacrificial
events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act of sacrifice on
the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political lens, that the Ancient
Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of war, to play for their life; it
was a political game to emphasize who was the stronger and authoritative society. However, Freidel,
Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens, see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment
of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins. Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using
archeological proof, is more convincing because Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol
Vuh, written much later than the actual events it accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a
distorted story. Miller and Houston argue for the ballgame as a game for the ... Show more content on

ballgame appeased the Lords of Death. But, furthermore, Freidel, Schele, and Parker believe that the
physical ball court was a source or opening to the underworld where Mayans could interact with the
supernatural. In the Popol Vuh, the ballgame is refered to as hom, which is a word that means chasm

Taking a Look at HIV
Physiological Basis
To be a retrovirus is not the same as a virus. HIV is a retrovirus and it is classified as this because HIV
s genetic information is being enclosed by RNA instead of DNA. HIV targets a specific cell within the
immune system and those are the T cells or also known as CD4+ cells. HIV causes immune
dysfunction by destroying these cells. HIV contains a glycoprotein, called gp120 that is vital for the
virus to enter the T cell. It attaches to the surface, called the CD4+. As it attaches, the retrovirus
membrane fuses to the lymphocyte cell membrane, therefore gaining entry into the cell.
Once an entry is initiated and completed, HIV has the ability to replicate into thousands of copies of
itself by using the host cells resources and the RNA. The RNA, which is two stranded, converts into
DNA through an enzyme titled reverse transcriptase. When the DNA is set within the host s genome, it
allows replication to occur. Furthermore, the new viral copies are made and the host cell ruptures and
dies. As a result, the multiple viruses are released and continue to infect more of the T cells,
weakening the immune system. The normal count of T cells is about 800 1200 cells/mm3. For a while,
T cells can be initially replaced, but HIV infection is a slowly progressive disease and soon enough the
body becomes exhausted, leading to a decline in T cell count. There are several prevention measures
that can be taken in order to avoid getting HIV. Those include

Studying At New York University
If you are going to be passionate about something, be passionate about learning. This belief that
Knowledge is power has dawned on me from the very young age. My father who had struggled to
impart good education early in his life, had to start working at a very young age of 17 but he never
gave up on education. Today he holds 2 degrees of MA and MBA and still continues to do his PhD
from a distant learning at the age of 54. I realized that to excel in life, it is essential to keep learning,
and that work and learning are a continuum. I aspire to further my knowledge in the field of
Information Systems from New York University. My immediate goal is to develop my potential by
further improving my technical knowledge and skills through higher learning provided by a sustained
period of graduate studies; followed by working in an organization that can positively utilize my
abilities and help in overall economic and social development. I firmly believe that studying at New
York University would help me apply my knowledge and create innovative technological solutions to
solve socio economic problems. A structured environment will not only improve my skills but also
hone my enthusiasm to affect the critical process of change that development entails. For an engineer
it is utmost importance to become an erudite in his field. Management Information Systems gives me
that path since it parallels with my previous education and the work experience that I gained for more

How might a greater understanding of non verbal communication benefit a door to door sales person?
Non verbal communication is defined as communication without words. It is considered important in
terms of effectiveness within the retail industry as non verbal behaviour speaks volumes about what
you are really trying to say. Evidence has shown although people may strongly attend to what you re

Among facial expression eye contact plays a very significant role. It can be argued that eye contact is
the most expressive part of the face. Is it truly the window of ones soul? During social interactions
such as door to door selling it is said that a person s gaze plays a key role in building a rapport with a
customer and it is said that a prolonged eye gaze improves that rapport even move, which to a door to
door sales person is critical to build and it will improve their selling chances having built strong
rapport, as it can be argued to make them seem more trustworthy then to the customer. Michael Argyle
found that we maintain eye contact 40 60% of the time we are talking to someone but we become
much more attentive when we become the listener, maintaining eye contact with the speaker 80% of
the time. This concludes that to build a rapport with someone your gaze should meet theirs 70 80% of
the time(Argyle, 1975). This lays the base for trust, by showing the customer that you are listening to
what they are saying or asking you in return.

Use Of Strategic Hrm Practices When Comparing The Oecd...
Thorough, relegation has taken to broadly similar working diagrams across the whole government.
Spain produces considerably less use of strategic HRM practices when comparing to the OECD
average. A regular liability diagram for management does not exist and statistics are not available
when it comes to HRM issues that management plans and reports on. Nonetheless, organized
progressive planning is in use, and covers a large range of topics related to long term management
issues. When it comes to recruitment, Spain uses a hiring system that is completely related to a career
base. One has to go through a competitive examination that is managed centrally. A time of practical
work is also part of the examination process. Most positions are done internally and some allowed
external recruitment through the direct application process. Even over the years, no change or
improvement has been made towards the use of external recruitment. Spain does not give any statistics
including policies to better the process of hiring of not skilled population.
Compared to the OECD countries, Spain does not make much use of one s performance in their HR
decision making process. Spain does not offer any statistics on how they evaluate their employees,
where Spain only uses assessment for some employees only. Spain only takes into criteria a couple
things with performance, such as activities undertaken, outputs and the effect of cost at work.

These studies suggest a role for oligodendrocytes and brain demyelination in the pathophysiology of
schizophrenia.
To examine the putative role of oligodendrocytes in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, animal
studies are essential. Among possible animal models, the cuprizone (CPZ) induced demyelination in
C57BL/6 mice appear to be highly promising and deserving of close scrutiny. CPZ is a copper
chelator and has been shown to specifically damage the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes, but not
to cause lesions in other cell types in the central nervous system (CNS; Matsushima Morell, 2001;
Remington, Babcock, Zehntner, Owens, 2007; Selvaraju et al., 2004). Also, CPZ was shown to have
no effects on peripheral nerves (Komoly, 2005). Moreover, demyelinated animals on a CPZ diet
showed reduced running performance on the training wheels and this was even more pronounced
when these mice were subsequently exposed to the complex wheels (Liebetanz Merkler, 2006). More
recently, other behavioral changes have been described in C57BL/6 mice treated with CPZ. It was
reported that at 3 and 4 weeks of 0.2% CPZ treatment, the animals exhibited an increase in CNS
activity and a reduced anxiety response to a novelty challenge test. At 5 weeks of treatment
equilibrium was altered and sensorimotor reactivity was also affected (Franco Pons, Torrente,

Interview With A Panino Restaurant
Panino Restaurant
The entrepreneur that I interviewed was Lydia Patterson. In 1989, Lydia and her husband, Lou,
decided to start planning to open up a new Italian restaurant in Virginia. The restaurant industry,
especially in the Washington DC area is very competitive. It is highly competitive with respect to
price, value and promotions, service, location, and food quality. There are a substantial number of
restaurant operations that compete for customer traffic, some of which have significantly greater
resources to aggressively market to consumers, which could result in losing market share. Consumers
are highly focused on value and if other restaurants are able to promote and deliver a higher degree of

The actual building of the inside of the restaurant took place first. This took approximately two
months to complete and in the meantime, Lydia and Lou were planning menus, marketing plans, and
thinking about how they wanted to conduct their business. This included the types of benefits they
wanted to give their employees, how many people they wanted to hire, how they wanted to run their
business, what foods would be served, and which types of people they wanted to appeal to. In March
1991, the building of the restaurant was completed and Lydia finally was able to design the inside of
the restaurant and decorate according to her personal taste. She gave the restaurant a simple, Italian
style feel that would appeal to the area that the restaurant was located in. Paintings by her brother in
law would hang on every wall along with having hand painted antiques throughout the restaurant. The
set up of the restaurant took about a month. In late April of 1991, Lydia and Lou decided to take the
planning process to the next level and decided to start executing some of their plans. This is when
some of the setbacks started to take place. When starting this new business venture, technology wasn t

Symbolism In Robert Frost s Nothing Gold Can Stay
Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, 1923. It was a political poem because Robert Frost feared for
World War II. He showed that fear in the poem.
Narrative because it is telling the story of life throughout the poem. This title is not obvious to what
the poem is about because he uses metaphors and symbolism. Due to this the title isnt literal.
Although in the poem there aren t any phrases repeated, the word gold is said many times.
Seasons are passing during the time of this poem. It starts with Spring but once he says, then leaf
subsides to leaf he is implying that time is passing.
Ordinarily Eden would be based off of the bible and kind of is but in this poem that character is
mainly represented as mother nature.
Robert Frost was deliberately concealing information from the audience because he came to the
conclusion that if he shows strong political veiws than everyone else is going to either completely
agree or disagree. This would not be good because they were on the verge of World War II.
Robert Frost s poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay does not show any signs of habits, dress, behavior,
speech, or a particular group of people.
Along the lines of fantasy versus reality, this is undoubtedly reality. He talks about childhood fading
away until we dont have our innocence anymore.
Bitter sweet is how Robert Frost expresses the tone of his poem. He is explaining how wonderful it is
when you hang onto your gold but, also narrates how difficult it is for it to stay. For the reader s mood
is sad, as they are sorry for mother nature and understand how innocent childhood was. Therefore the
mood is making the readers feel unhappy.
Youth and nature are both equal themes in this poem because if you take the poem literally it is
perfectly describing nature bt once you dig around it is also clearly describing youth and how you cant
keep it. The personification in this peice helps hide distinguished lines between literal and figurtive
meanings in this poem.
His poem begins frolicking but then decreases in speed because the poem gets more sad the farther
you go. This seems to go right along with the theme and doesnt go faster than it should.
He is using lots of vivid imagery in this poem in a pleasant way even though in

since I withdrew from school. I happily accepted her invite to grab coffee at the Starbucks nearby to

Designed in a similar scheme as Medicare, Medicaid was enacted in 1965 as an amendment to Social
Security Act Title XIX (Flagg, Class 6). The legislation proclaimed Medicaid as an entitlement, which
guaranteed health care coverage to all that meet qualifications (Flagg, Class 6). Although Medicaid is
jointly financed by the federal and state government, the federal government pays states for a
specified percentage of program expenditures, called the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage
(FMAP), (Medicaid.gov). However, both governments assume different roles as I recall Professor
Flagg noting that states are responsible for managing the program while federal government oversee
it. Just like other programs and institutions that receive federal funding, the federal government has
power to delegate regulations and impose conditions. Professor Flagg stated that it has mandated
states to provide certain benefits within Medicaid and beneficiaries need to be categorically eligible.
All to say that Medicaid will ensure coverage to all eligible individuals that meet their financial and
categorical requirement. The Affordable Care Act was the latest health care reform that was
undertaken by President Obama. As the 44th President of the United States, he worked towards
improving the health care system in hopes of reducing the high

Marion Pritchard Quotes
Marion Pritchard was a WWⅡ hero. She registered Jewish children and took them under her wing as
one her own and went and found safe non Jewish homes for them. Marion was someone who was a
survivor during WWII and she helped people. She also made people feel safe by bringing them to a
safer place. The things she did went down in history and she was known as a hero. Some people
thought of her as a hero but some did not. I wonder why they didn t think of her as a hero, but we will
find out. One day, she recalled, as she was riding her bicycle to class, she saw Nazis at the children s
home picking up the kids by an arm or a leg or by the hair (NY Times) and throwing them into a truck.
This quote shows evidence that she is a hero by her thinking of the children that were being mistreated

Born in Amsterdam in 1920, Pritchard learned from her parents to treat people with respect and
understanding. This quote also shows evidence that she was a hero by the reason behind why she
helped people. Well besides the fact that she didn t like the way Jews were being treated. She needed
to respect people and treat them the way she wanted to be treated. I think that Marion Pritchard is a
hero based on this evidence. People may not think she is a hero by her saying this, By 1945, I had lied,
stolen, cheated, deceived and even killed. I think that may put a perspective on how people would see
her but I think she is a hero. She saved people and mostly children from dying. Marion is no Oskar
Schindler, but she made an impact in her own way. She is a hero is many eyes and she may not be in
some but she brings her heroism to her own kind of heroism by doing what she did back

Magical Realism In The NoseAndDon Ysidro
Magical realism, is a form of literary genre that takes the reader on a journey somewhere between the
mundane of ordinary everyday life, to the supernatural world of uncertainty where things are accepted
without question or reason. A gap exists between two world s the ordinary and the extra ordinary
which can be examined in two stories of this genre, The Nose by Nikolai Gogol, and Don Ysidro by
Bruce Holland Rogers. While both have similarities in tone consistent with this genre, such as being
serious and realistic, the stories do have differences in the specific tone of the dialogue the authors use
to describe characters and parts of the story. A comparison and contrast of the above two stories will
reveal both the similarities and differences between stories as they relate to the genre of magical
realism.
Traditional magical realist stories have many similarities that exist to place them in this particular
genre of literature. A tone that is both serious and realistic exists, and connects these two stories in this
genre. Real world settings with real world experiences, where no new worlds are invented or created,
leads the reader to believe what they are reading and adds to a seriousness and realistic view of the
story. Normality is disrupted, just as all seems real, with the injection of a fantastical event as seen in
both stories. In The Nose, a Russian Barber, Ivan Jakovlevitch, of St. Petersburg wakes to a morning
of fresh bread made by his wife, only to

Erythematosus otherwise known as lupus is an inflammatory autoimmune condition and typically

Tendons and bursa may also become inflamed, causing pain with joint movement. The joint pain in
lupus is usually worse in the morning and improves throughout the day. Inflammation of the lining of
the heart (pericarditis) or abdominal cavity (peritonitis) often results in chest pain and abdominal pain,
respectively. Patients with kidney involvement (lupus nephritis) may develop frothy urine, swelling in
the legs, and high blood pressure. Severe disease can lead to kidney failure. Patient with lupus are also
at increased risk for heart attack, stroke, and blood clots in the legs and lungs. How is lupus
diagnosed? Lupus is diagnosed based on the patient s symptoms, physical examination findings, and
laboratory tests. Your doctor will usually check a comprehensive metabolic panel to evaluate your
kidney and liver function. In addition, they will also typically check a complete blood count, ESR
(erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP (C reactive protein), and complement levels. Urine analysis is
commonly ordered to evaluate for protein and other urine abnormalities. Women of childbearing age
are also tested with a urine pregnancy screen. Certain antibodies in the blood are highly suggestive of
lupus. These typically include: ANA (anti nuclear

Igbo Culture And Traditional Medicine
Medicine and health are essential in everyday living, but plunging into African medicine helps
discover the reasons for cultural ritual practices, society, and religion, resulting in a host of
information that provides a deep insight into African culture. According to many, African traditional
medicine represents the sum of the people s medicinal knowledge as well as beliefs, skills, and
practices used in diagnosing, preventing, or eliminating a physical, mental, or social disequilibrium
(Selin 679). This is especially true of the Igbo tribe in modern day southeast Nigeria. The novel
Things Fall Apart briefly explores the world of traditional medicine, describing the journey that young
and ill patients must travel to detach oneself from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As accounted by many, Traditional healers often act, in part, as an intermediary between the visible
and invisible worlds; between the living and the dead or ancestors, sometimes to determine which
spirits are at work and how to bring the sick person back into harmony with their ancestors (Abdullahi
¶ 3). This provides the emotional and spiritual depth of traditional medical practitioners, as they truly
make an effort to connect patients to their community even if they are severely ill (Abdullahi ¶ 3).
Finally, the Igbo tribe held many secret societies, including instruction in medicine, that held both
secular and religious functions and allowed inducted community members to learn about its origins (
Cults and Rituals 284). This further establishes their connection of religion to medicine, as secret
societies may teach medicine to members in a religious setting. Therefore, when Igbo medical
practitioners practiced medicine before colonization, they incorporated many aspects of their religion,
including, but not limited to, sorcery and divination, as they have for many years.
Two main groups of people were allowed to practice medicine used in Igbo culture. There were
authorities, known as medicine men, who were known to practice sorcery among their patients; only
those who had a knowledge of medicine and pharmacology could practice sorcery ( Cults and Rituals
286). In addition, the Dibia, referred to as

A Speech On The And Chill
So, was that a yes or a no? He asks while looking at me, his beautiful brown eyes scanning my face. I
still can t believe that I m actually going to be stuck with him for 3 hours. Annoying dipshit. His
words earlier echo through my head: Just go. I don t want to see you EVER again. I groan at the
thought. Ugh, Talk about seeing his face again. He waits for me to respond while I stay silent. I ll take
that as a yes then, Dude. You seriously need to chill, Yes. Netflix and Chill, He chuckles wolfishly. Oh
come on, how are you going to repay me for wetting my shirt with your hot ass tea? With the way that
he acts, It seems to me that he didn t give a damn about the pretzel stand incident anymore which is
truly relieving for me. No. You need to repay me because my pretzels got thrown on the floor. Those
were fucking expensive little balls of dough! I defend. By the way, I did say sorry, But you were just
being an ass earlier, Touché... I guess were even then? His perfect lips opened a beautiful smile
revealed his perfect white teeth that I wish, I, myself owned. Yep, There was a sullen pause between
us. I opened my mouth to speak up, but I got cut off. Hey I know what to do! How bout we play a
game? Hit me with it, I said in an alluring voice. Ooh feisty. 20 facts or Never have I ever ? Meh.
Either one, I shrug. 20 facts then. Okay... I uncomfortably reposition myself in my seat to slightly face
him. Do you want me to go

The hard work of a prospective engineer can be shown in the benefits he receives upon entering the workforce. For example, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the starting salaries of engineers are among the highest in the nation ( Engineers , 2012, para. 4). Good things come to those who work hard. Mechanical Engineering Information.com would agree in mentioning that because engineering is so applicable to everyday situations, engineers can find work almost anywhere ( Mechanical Engineering salary , 2012). As history progressed, the need for engineers greatly increased and more people were willing to pay for a good engineer. The World Book verifies that it was around the time of the industrial revolution that the role of engineers expanded more rapidly ( Engineering , 1999). Ever since then, the need for engineers has grown even more. Engineering Degrees 101.com states that today, the body of engineers in the U.S. is 1.5 million strong and still growing ( How long does it take to become an engineer? , 2012). It would appear that these people liked being paid a lot of money, so they became engineers. Quite often, prospective engineers partake in more than 4 years of college, but other options are available. Sometimes an individual does not require any more than 2 years of education in engineering. According to Worldwidelearn.com, Some engineering schools and 2 year colleges have agreements whereby the 2 year college provides the initial engineering education ( Mechanical Engineers , 2003, para. 10). Wondrous and monstrous, extraordinary and mysterious. Wonders of nature, culture and science fruits and spoils of Renaissance age of discovery found their way into European cabinets of curiosity those days collection included works of art, precious gems, outlandish fruits, four footed beasts, an Indian lip stone, blood that rained in the Isle of Wight, unicorn s horns, dragons bones. Cabinets of exotic and rare objects were privately owned by collectors, often royal or aristocratic. Such cabinets demonstrated the owner s wealth and prestige, on one hand, but on another level, their intention was to genuinely arouse curiosity and wonder. Then along came the Enlightenment and the French and American Revolutions. A new museum order responded to, and even served to make manifest, a new world order. Due to this, Montessori was a properly educated woman with a talent and passion for higher education which was extremely unusual for an Italian woman during her time. In the 19th century there was much controversy on whether children belonged in the work field or in the classroom. Based on their families social class a child would either go work at factories to help their family make money, or go to school to get a basic education. The prepared environment is the fourth premises of her theory which means that the teacher preselects the learning materials she wants her students to be exposed to during class time. Teachers manipulate and prepare the classroom environment so that students have specific choices to guide their experience towards what is planned for their development. The last premises of Montessori s learning theory is auto education which is often seen as the main goal of the Montessori method. Auto education is when children teach themselves by making choices and experiencing things in the planned environment. One major subfield of neuroscience utilizes electrophysiological properties of the brain to record neural activity through electrodes on the scalp (EEG). Furthermore, the analysis of the signal to noise ratios leads to event related potentials (ERPs). These event related potentials measure the brain s response to specific cognitive events. Also through previous research ERP s have been correlated with face perception in humans and monkeys; subsequently, prosopagnosia and lesion studies in the inferior occipitotemporal region bolsters the notion that the brain utilizes specific areas to perceive faces (Bentin et al., 1996). Additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He established that the N170 reacted best to human faces compared to animal faces, cars, scrambled pictures, or hands. However, the N170 reacted the highest when volunteers were presented pictures of isolated eyes. This indicated that the neural mechanism is fine tuned to identify human physiognomic features. Bentin discovered the importance the N170 performs in the perception facial expressions. Furthermore, he challenged the assumption that inversion of faces impaired the structural encoding phase by presenting volunteers with inverted and upright faces. The amplitude and distribution of the N170 of the upright and inverted faces was particularly analogous, and this lead to the impression that this specific ERP component encodes facial structures in lieu of an entire face. Furthermore, Bentin also noted the differences in the recordings of the scalp recorded N170 to the subdural N200. There is a 20msec latency in the N200 recordings, and the N200 recordings are correlated with the fusiform face specific processing. While the N200 structurally encodes the face, the N170 is a specific eye processor that interprets gaze and orientation. Additional studies verified the conjecture that the N170 is targeted for eyes. In one experiment when the eyes were directed to the viewer compared to gazing away a larger N170 was noted (McCarthy et al., 1999). This principal attribute of human eye recognition ... In competitive authoritarianism regimes, elections are normally rigged, power figures regularly misuse state resources while oppressed are denied simple liberties. State and nation building, integration, and a development of a unified ideology can be a strategy to promote democratic consolidation. 5. resource curse and the transition to democracy Countries that do not promote accountability and state competence to benefit from resource booms are at risk of the resource curse. • 11. Forbidden Knowledge In Dr. Faustus And The Machine Stops The concept of forbidden knowledge is merely a blockade to what lies beyond the wider scope of human experience. Thus, forbidden knowledge as we know it is nothing more than a liability to the harsh reality of life. In the case of Never Let Me Go, forbidden knowledge is present in that Kathy is truly unaware of what life has in store for her. She does not understand the restrictions of her life, nor how vital her physical body is to the donations of humanity. With that said, the theme of forbidden knowledge is also present in Dr. Faustus, and The Machine Stops, for the characters in both novels are equally intent on comprehending what lies beyond their physical realms. While the concept of forbidden knowledge is present throughout the diverse works of literature, it is also present in my own life. Not only has forbidden knowledge sparked an interest in my ability to surpass milestones, but it has also altered my perception of the world as well. Having considered that each of the three novels depicts the concept of forbidden knowledge, it is quite evident that forbidden knowledge is something that humans are constantly pursuing. At any rate, Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro outlines the notion of forbidden knowledge in that Kathy, Tommy, and Ruth, are all unaware of how detrimental their livelihood is to the well being of humanity. • 12. Physical Therapy Is The Health Profession Physical therapy is the health profession that provides treatment and management of physical disability, malfunction, or pain via various modalities, and without the use of medicines, surgery, or radiation [1]. An individual who practices physical therapy is known as a physical therapist. Physical therapists are experts of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, and they evaluate and treat patients for issues that involve those systems [2]. The role of a physical therapist is to evaluate patients, and to provide treatment to patients that focus primarily on movement. This includes, but is not limited to, restoration of movement as well as improving movement, reducing pain levels, returning function that may have been lost, and improving function.[2] The most predominant clinical setting where physical therapists... provide care include hospitals, outpatient clinics, private practices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health, school systems, and sport centers [2]. Typically, to receive access to the services provided by a physical therapist, a patient has to be referred to a physical therapist by a physician. • 13. The Rise of a Mash-up Culture Essay A great deal has been said about the move from physical media to a ubiquitous, digital culture. Some decry the downfall of the vinyl record, falling compact disc sales, the cheapening and degrading of an art form. I ll try to stay away from unverifiable judgements about the direction modern culture is moving in. More interesting is the way musical creation is changing as a result of new technologies, whether we like it or not. What comes to mind is hyperreality what Jean Baudrillard called the generation by models of a real without origin or reality (166). Digital representations, originally intended to recreate the original sound waves of the music, are losing their point of origin and becoming musical works on their own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its pointless to look for the original blueprint of a digital representation, because it s independent of the hardware it s stored in, and meaningful only in the information it encodes. Hyperreality results from a loss of distinction between the representations and the things they re intended to represent. In our culture, the separation between a song and the digital file of a song is becoming trivial. Computers allow information to be torn free of its original context, and reinterpreted upon retrieval. Representation engines are the ideal enablers of hyperreality, giving almost limitless power to reorder simulacra upon simulacra. The internet takes the representational capacities of computers, and spreads them over a vast symbolic network. Anyone with an internet connection instantly gains manipulative control over a whole world of digital abstractions. These have the unique property of not being tied down to any specific physical origin. It follows that they re infinitely recreatable, and intimately tied to their user defined context. This decontextualization began, to a lesser extent, with the advent of audio cassettes, allowing the creation of mix tapes. A mix tape lets the listener take small parts (usually whole songs) from different physical source material (records), and combine them into a new whole, consisting of copied parts. Criteria such as not being able to act as a medium of speech to express new ideas, to speak of science, to speak of high literature, and to be used internationally without having to borrow vocabulary from other languages. English is probably the most infamous case of this myth being false. As we know it English is probably one of the most widely spoken languages. English has the ability to clearly express ones ideas, converse scientific terms, and speak of high literature. However many of English s vocabulary are borrowed from Latin, French, and many other languages. Under the criteria of those that believe that some languages are not good enough, English is not good enough as a language since it borrows vocabulary from other languages. But this is not true since English is a very prominent language and is very able to express new ideas of all kinds. Another famous example that can be used to debunking this myth would be in the case of Latin. When Latin first arose the Greek s believed that Latin just wasn t good enough to be able to express complex thoughts. However as we know today this is terribly false. Scholars and Theorists like Samuel Huntington have addressed the question of why states are experiencing heightened tension and have concluded that conflict in states or between states is the result of ethnic differences, namely religion and culture. Samuel Huntington s essay, Clash of Civilizations, is extremely interesting because I always questioned what would have happened if every race were to stay in the territories they inhabited, like North America where Aboriginals settled, and the Middle East where the Arabians settled. Although, non believers may read the book, they may not glean insights from it like believers. Thesis and Bias Schaeffer s (2005) thesis was on how we should live now by understanding our history and culture through philosophical, scientific, and religious knowledge. Throughout the book Schaeffer (2005) displays bias because the book is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the way history is presented is skewed due to his Christian intent. Theoretical Assumptions and Issues One of the first concepts Schaeffer (2005) explores in the book is the significance of peoples presuppositions of Western history. Schaeffer (2005) believes that everyone has presuppositions and that they are gained through our family, peers, and our culture. His issue is that Western Civilization is declining and tracing history can shed light on why and how we should live to reverse the effects (Schaeffer, 2005). Compared to today, it still has that same effect. It s inspiring and changing society in many different ways. Art has a power of expressing what we humans can t explain. It brings out a feeling in all of us that s unimaginable and unexplainable. Religion has served as a primary subject matter of art. However, there are many views when it comes to the relationship between humans and God. Three artists from three different time periods explore the comparisons between art and religion. • 23. Inclusion For Students With Special Needs In the Education discipline, there has been a long debate for many years over the topic of inclusion. Inclusive education is defined as students with disabilities, being supported in age appropriate general education classrooms, at their home school, and receiving specialized instruction as needed per the student s IEP (Individualized Education Program) within the general education class curriculum and activities. Inclusion is there to help student with special needs in attending school regularly with their friends and peers while being accommodated as needed, per their IEP, to help achieve the student s academic goals and be successful. The topic of inclusion has been researched for many years. Inclusion will continue to be researched, so that faculty and teachers at elementary schools can continue to better themselves in inclusion practices for students with special need, and also to continue to progress towards full inclusion of these students with special needs in a general education classroom. Since there is a lot in the news about inclusion in schools across the U.S., for this essay, I began my search about inclusion in the Education discipline by finding scholarly articles on the subject, along with other online news sources concerning this subject in my area of study. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where sacrificial events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act of sacrifice on the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political lens, that the Ancient Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of war, to play for their life; it was a political game to emphasize who was the stronger and authoritative society. However, Freidel, Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens, see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins. Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using archeological proof, is more convincing because Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol Vuh, written much later than the actual events it accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a distorted story. • 27. Taking a Look at HIV Physiological Basis To be a retrovirus is not the same as a virus. HIV is a retrovirus and it is classified as this because HIV s genetic information is being enclosed by RNA instead of DNA. HIV targets a specific cell within the immune system and those are the T cells or also known as CD4+ cells. HIV causes immune dysfunction by destroying these cells. HIV contains a glycoprotein, called gp120 that is vital for the virus to enter the T cell. It attaches to the surface, called the CD4+. As it attaches, the retrovirus membrane fuses to the lymphocyte cell membrane, therefore gaining entry into the cell. Once an entry is initiated and completed, HIV has the ability to replicate into thousands of copies of itself by using the host cells resources and the RNA. The RNA, which is two stranded, converts into DNA through an enzyme titled reverse transcriptase. When the DNA is set within the host s genome, it allows replication to occur. Furthermore, the new viral copies are made and the host cell ruptures and dies. As a result, the multiple viruses are released and continue to infect more of the T cells, weakening the immune system. The normal count of T cells is about 800 1200 cells/mm3. For a while, T cells can be initially replaced, but HIV infection is a slowly progressive disease and soon enough the body becomes exhausted, leading to a decline in T cell count. There are several prevention measures that can be taken in order to avoid getting HIV. Those include ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These studies suggest a role for oligodendrocytes and brain demyelination in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. To examine the putative role of oligodendrocytes in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, animal studies are essential. Among possible animal models, the cuprizone (CPZ) induced demyelination in C57BL/6 mice appear to be highly promising and deserving of close scrutiny. CPZ is a copper chelator and has been shown to specifically damage the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes, but not to cause lesions in other cell types in the central nervous system (CNS; Matsushima Morell, 2001; Remington, Babcock, Zehntner, Owens, 2007; Selvaraju et al., 2004). Also, CPZ was shown to have no effects on peripheral nerves (Komoly, 2005). • 39. Symbolism In Robert Frost s Nothing Gold Can Stay Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, 1923. It was a political poem because Robert Frost feared for World War II. He showed that fear in the poem. Narrative because it is telling the story of life throughout the poem. This title is not obvious to what the poem is about because he uses metaphors and symbolism. Due to this the title isnt literal. Although in the poem there aren t any phrases repeated, the word gold is said many times. Seasons are passing during the time of this poem. It starts with Spring but once he says, then leaf subsides to leaf he is implying that time is passing. Ordinarily Eden would be based off of the bible and kind of is but in this poem that character is mainly represented as mother nature. Robert Frost was deliberately concealing information from the audience because he came to the conclusion that if he shows strong political veiws than everyone else is going to either completely agree or disagree. This would not be good because they were on the verge of World War II. Robert Frost s poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay does not show any signs of habits, dress, behavior, speech, or a particular group of people. Along the lines of fantasy versus reality, this is undoubtedly reality. He talks about childhood fading away until we dont have our innocence anymore. Bitter sweet is how Robert Frost expresses the tone of his poem. He is explaining how wonderful it is when you hang onto your gold but, also narrates how difficult it is for it to stay. For the reader s mood is sad, as they are sorry for mother nature and understand how innocent childhood was. Therefore the mood is making the readers feel unhappy. Youth and nature are both equal themes in this poem because if you take the poem literally it is perfectly describing nature bt once you dig around it is also clearly describing youth and how you cant keep it. The personification in this peice helps hide distinguished lines between literal and figurtive meanings in this poem. The legislation proclaimed Medicaid as an entitlement, which guaranteed health care coverage to all that meet qualifications (Flagg, Class 6). Although Medicaid is jointly financed by the federal and state government, the federal government pays states for a specified percentage of program expenditures, called the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP), (Medicaid.gov). However, both governments assume different roles as I recall Professor Flagg noting that states are responsible for managing the program while federal government oversee it. Just like other programs and institutions that receive federal funding, the federal government has power to delegate regulations and impose conditions. Professor Flagg stated that it has mandated states to provide certain benefits within Medicaid and beneficiaries need to be categorically eligible. All to say that Medicaid will ensure coverage to all eligible individuals that meet their financial and categorical requirement. • 41. Marion Pritchard Quotes Marion Pritchard was a WWⅡ hero. She registered Jewish children and took them under her wing as one her own and went and found safe non Jewish homes for them. Marion was someone who was a survivor during WWII and she helped people. She also made people feel safe by bringing them to a safer place. The things she did went down in history and she was known as a hero. Some people thought of her as a hero but some did not. I wonder why they didn t think of her as a hero, but we will find out. One day, she recalled, as she was riding her bicycle to class, she saw Nazis at the children s home picking up the kids by an arm or a leg or by the hair (NY Times) and throwing them into a truck. This quote shows evidence that she is a hero by her thinking of the children that were being mistreated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Born in Amsterdam in 1920, Pritchard learned from her parents to treat people with respect and understanding. This quote also shows evidence that she was a hero by the reason behind why she helped people. Well besides the fact that she didn t like the way Jews were being treated. She needed to respect people and treat them the way she wanted to be treated. I think that Marion Pritchard is a hero based on this evidence. People may not think she is a hero by her saying this, By 1945, I had lied, stolen, cheated, deceived and even killed. I think that may put a perspective on how people would see her but I think she is a hero. She saved people and mostly children from dying. Marion is no Oskar Schindler, but she made an impact in her own way. She is a hero is many eyes and she may not be in some but she brings her heroism to her own kind of heroism by doing what she did back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Magical Realism In The NoseAndDon Ysidro Magical realism, is a form of literary genre that takes the reader on a journey somewhere between the mundane of ordinary everyday life, to the supernatural world of uncertainty where things are accepted without question or reason. A gap exists between two world s the ordinary and the extra ordinary which can be examined in two stories of this genre, The Nose by Nikolai Gogol, and Don Ysidro by Bruce Holland Rogers. While both have similarities in tone consistent with this genre, such as being serious and realistic, the stories do have differences in the specific tone of the dialogue the authors use to describe characters and parts of the story. A comparison and contrast of the above two stories will reveal both the similarities and differences between stories as they relate to the genre of magical realism. Traditional magical realist stories have many similarities that exist to place them in this particular genre of literature. A tone that is both serious and realistic exists, and connects these two stories in this genre. Real world settings with real world experiences, where no new worlds are invented or created, leads the reader to believe what they are reading and adds to a seriousness and realistic view of the story. Normality is disrupted, just as all seems real, with the injection of a fantastical event as seen in both stories. In The Nose, a Russian Barber, Ivan Jakovlevitch, of St. Petersburg wakes to a morning of fresh bread made by his wife, only to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Igbo Culture And Traditional Medicine Medicine and health are essential in everyday living, but plunging into African medicine helps discover the reasons for cultural ritual practices, society, and religion, resulting in a host of information that provides a deep insight into African culture. According to many, African traditional medicine represents the sum of the people s medicinal knowledge as well as beliefs, skills, and practices used in diagnosing, preventing, or eliminating a physical, mental, or social disequilibrium (Selin 679). This is especially true of the Igbo tribe in modern day southeast Nigeria. The novel Things Fall Apart briefly explores the world of traditional medicine, describing the journey that young and ill patients must travel to detach oneself from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As accounted by many, Traditional healers often act, in part, as an intermediary between the visible and invisible worlds; between the living and the dead or ancestors, sometimes to determine which spirits are at work and how to bring the sick person back into harmony with their ancestors (Abdullahi ¶ 3). This provides the emotional and spiritual depth of traditional medical practitioners, as they truly make an effort to connect patients to their community even if they are severely ill (Abdullahi ¶ 3). Finally, the Igbo tribe held many secret societies, including instruction in medicine, that held both secular and religious functions and allowed inducted community members to learn about its origins ( Cults and Rituals 284). This further establishes their connection of religion to medicine, as secret societies may teach medicine to members in a religious setting. Therefore, when Igbo medical practitioners practiced medicine before colonization, they incorporated many aspects of their religion, including, but not limited to, sorcery and divination, as they have for many years. Two main groups of people were allowed to practice medicine used in Igbo culture. There were authorities, known as medicine men, who were known to practice sorcery among their patients; only those who had a knowledge of medicine and pharmacology could practice sorcery ( Cults and Rituals 286). I still can t believe that I m actually going to be stuck with him for 3 hours. Annoying dipshit. His words earlier echo through my head: Just go. I don t want to see you EVER again. With the way that he acts, It seems to me that he didn t give a damn about the pretzel stand incident anymore which is truly relieving for me.
