rights. Although I wouldn t want Hillary Clinton for a president, I definitely can agree with
everything she was advocating in this particular speech. She explains the ways in which women s
rights should be equivalent to human s rights, but are currently not, in China. The issues she was
addressing are not issues that we have often in America today; they are shocking and overlooked. If
there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women s
rights and women s rights are human rights once and for all. On September 5, 1995, 180 countries
came together in Beijing China to hear first lady Hillary Clinton s speech about women s rights.
This speech was the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. The target audience for
this speech is governments and other organizations that can help meet the goal of making women s
rights human rights. She addressed problems that every single country faced concerning the

Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States. In the past data has been hard to
obtain about Filipino Americans, primarily because of inconsistences in coding race and ethnicity
in research projects. Demographics of Filipino Americans did not start being properly recorded until
the early twentieth century, when the Filipino Islands became part of the United States territory.
Even with the limited data, they have gathered enough information on the Filipino culture. Filipino
American beliefs differ drastically from that of Americans, such as their culture, health rituals and
religious practices that may make healthcare more difficult (Dela Cruz, 2010).
Studies of the Filipino American health practices show that Filipinos who reside in a rural area are
more knowledgeable in home remedies, super natural ailments, traditional healing techniques,
where those from urban areas rely more on Western Medicine and over the counter drugs. In both
settings, indigenous folk and western medicine is used simultaneously. A popular self medication
among these groups is Chinese hot/cold application system (Pasma), and Chinese oils which

The department that I reviewed using the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) was
the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Transfer Center. I am currently doing my graduate
assistantship at the ELAC Transfer Center. Therefore, I thought it would be a more meaningful
experience to choose this department to review using the CAS standards because it offers the
opportunity to learn more about the department and probably provide my supervisor suggestions
that can help improve the department to be more effective in serving students. I interviewed two
individuals in the department in order to get some insight on how well of a job the department is
dong in adhering to the CAS standards. The first person I interviewed was the Transfer Center...

space to reinforce the message of their mission statement every time one of the employees views it.
Program
The primary elements of the department are academic advising, transfer application assistance,
transfer assistance, academic counseling. As a strength, the program is intentional in providing
students with reliable information to transfer, since the information is always changing. Also, the
department is strong in implementing services such as conferences, workshops, summer programs,
and campus tours that with assist students in the transfer process. Another strength of the
department is a consistent collaboration with other programs within the institution to benefit the
students such as collaboration with programs like Puente and EOP S in which these programs bring
their student to the Transfer Center to attend Transfer 101 workshops. An area in which the
department was inconsistent with the CAS standards was in not having established student learning
outcomes. In addition, the department was also inconsistent in their program design not using
multiple formats to deliver the information, for example lacking a video presence, not doing
enough to engage with parents, therefore being unconsidered of their student population.
