Singer Theme
Being raised by a rabbi in a large Jewish neighborhood, Isaac Bashevis Singer uses Jewish beliefs and
themes as the focal point in almost all of his works. As Singer retells many childhood stories in his
memoir In My Father s Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he witnesses his
father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in his later adult
work, as seen in his short story A Crown of Feathers ; though it is evident through the story that his
view on forgiveness had changed as he grew older. While Singer has retained the theme of forgiveness
in his work, it has matured and darkened as a result of his life experiences. As the son of a rabbi,
Singer was able to see firsthand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through The Purim Gift and To Warsaw, Singer shows how he saw forgiveness as a simple means to a
happy ending. However, as he grew into an adult and the world around him drastically changed,
Singer realized that his beliefs were not as simple as he thought as a child and that there is much more
inner turmoil present needed for forgiveness. This realization came with growing up in a conflict
ridden Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. Singer s perception of forgiveness evolved not only
due to simply growing up, but also possibly because of the Holocaust and its effect on other Jews, as
he was able to avoid it. Singer s relationship with forgiveness shows the complexity of both faith and
emotion and how childhood innocence is

Strangelove Attitudes Towards The Atomic Bomb And Cold War

Dr. Strangelove, Attitudes Towards the Atomic Bomb and Cold War
Less than two years after the United States society had been scared almost to death by the Cuban
Missile Crisis, 1964 the movie Dr. Strangelove was released to the movie theatres and showed the
country the end of the world. Advertised as the film of the era, Dr. Strangelove severely teased the
President, the entire military defense establishment, and the rhetoric of the Cold War. At that time, the
nation that was living through the stress of the nuclear arms race, and had confronted the real outlook
of nuclear war. The satiric treatment of the nation s leaders was a release from deep doubts and
pressures. The Cold War is well known not only for its long assignation among the two super powers,
the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also because of the delicate physical pressure that nuclear power
brought to the global stage.
Viewed, however, in its context of the Cold War and nuclear proliferation, the conditions of the Cold
War made it different than former international wars, because it was the first conflict that could
hypothetically lead to enormous, global destruction. Without the hazards of nuclear power, the Cold
War wouldn t have differed much from previous historical conflicts between powerful states. Stanley
Kubrick s 1964 political satire, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the

Circuit Court Case Study
In this instant appeal, Mr. Shoemaker asserts that the circuit court erred by imposing an improper
purge provision after finding him to be in contempt, and that the circuit court erred in finding that Mr.
Shoemaker would be liable for alimony payments in accordance with the parties original separation
agreement. We shall address both of these arguments in turn.
I. The Circuit Court Did Not Craft an Improper Purge Provision in Its Contempt Order. The scope of
our review of a trial court s contempt finding is as follows:
(a) Scope of review. Any person may appeal from any order or judgment passed to preserve the power
or vindicate the dignity of the court and adjudge him in contempt of court, including an interlocutory
order, remedial in nature, adjudging any person in contempt, whether or not a party to the action.

The Advantage By Patrick Lencioni Summary
The six questions required in The Advantage by Patrick Lencioni that create clarity within a
corporation could easily be applied to multiple aspects of theatre [general management companies (i.e.
Daryl Roth), production companies (i.e. Roundabout, MTC), unions and organizations (BCEFA,
AEA), or specific productions (i.e. Bright Star)]. However, I think the questions will be most fruitful
when applied to my professional self: Miranda the Stage Manager. Considering the position I am in
nearing graduation with a terminal theatre degree I need to take my last few months at school to
discover who I am professionally and what I want for my career. Upon graduation, I will be a
freelance stage manager, meaning that I hold the sole responsibility ... Show more content on

For example, I get internally riled up when I see actors asked to do things outside of their contract.
Most of the actors in Othello are new, uneducated AEA members. Unlike the stage management
program, the CU acting program does not delve into union rules and the actors did not read their
ANTC contract prior to signing it. So, when they are using their personal clothing items in the shows,
I feel the need to tell them that they are contractually owed compensation. Or, when the director
schedules pick up rehearsals on two show days, I get the intense desire to tell the Equity Deputy that
this is expressly forbidden in our contract (especially when I hear the cast complain of exhaustion
before the first show even begins.) While my information may be accurate, I am genuinely unsure if
and when my meddling is appropriate. I, personally, do not like having an extra, uncompensated
rehearsal on a two show day either, but I feel incapable of complaining on behalf of myself. I spread
information about the contract with the actors so that they may decide if and when to

Job Evaluation, Performance Management, And Compensation
In order to lay a foundation for a balanced, unbiased and fair system of pay, job evaluation has to be in
place. While people may think the focus is on the employee in the position, this could not be further
from the truth. The focus is primarily based on the job itself. The contribution of the employee is
covered in performance appraisal (Nigro Kellough, 2014, p. 103). In most organizations where work
is being performed, it is structured rather discretely and certain tasks are set into identifiable jobs. Job
evaluation is to enhance efficiency and equity in a variety of core personnel functions (p. 103). It is
very useful when involving recruitment, examination, selection, performance management, and
compensation (p. 103). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
103). This system simplifies the employee appraisal process and ensures that the development of the
pay system is equal (p. 103). With any system and organization there are issues, advantages and
disadvantages. This research will also focus on the methods involving job analysis and evaluation, job
pricing, and the issues in the public sector pay policies. The advantages and disadvantages of four
different job evaluation methods will also be thoroughly discussed. Job analysis plays a vital role in a
lot of human related activities, but every process that has interventions, has limitations. According to
Michael Armstrong (2003), job analysis provides first hand job related information, it provides
valuable job related data that helps managers (p. 173). Managers analyze the duties and
responsibilities of a particular job, risks and hazards involved in it, and skills and abilities required to
perform the job (p. 173). One of the most important activities it helps with is, creating suitable jobs for
employees. When HR fits the right person, in the right job, it tests the skills, understanding and
competency of the HR manager. It helps them understand what type of person is suitable for the
position (p. 173). Armstrong (2003) provides information regarding job analysis and several helpful
tips with establishing operative hiring practices and training needs such as, who should be hired,
where they should be placed, when to convey training and how, what type of

Analysis Of The Poem Dog By Lawrence Ferlinghetti
There are many literary devices in the poem Dog by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, which can be found in
Ann Charters The Portable Beat Reader. In this particular poem, the use of symbolism is heavily
embodied throughout each stanza. Looking at this from a standard viewpoint does not give the reader
a chance to comprehend the meaning of the poem. However, by analyzing and dissecting each stanza,
it would not seem to be just a group of random words stitched together, but rather a poem about
Lawrence Ferlinghetti s assessment of the modern world. As the supposed dog wanders freely and
explores the world around him, the symbolic images that the dog experiences along his journey truly
gives an in depth view of the term Beat from the emerging Beat Generation of the 1950s.
Qualities of the post World War II Beat culture include obscene and defiant behaviors in addition to an
environment paved with drugs and poverty. One of the stories that best portrays the central elements
of the Beat culture is the story of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty in On the Road by Jack Kerouac. In
fact, Jack Kerouac is the writer who was the first to coin the term Beat Generation. In the story, Sal
Paradise meets a highly experimental and charismatic man dubbed Dean Moriarty. The story follows
them as they travel from corner to corner of the country searching for meaning, all while facing
adversities such as confusion, depression, drugs, alcohol, and overall abandonment. Since these

Prohibition In The 20 s
During the Roaring Twenties, the flapper girl s outfit wasn t complete without her hipflask. Flapper
girls were rebellious and rejected society s norms and laws. Similarly, though Prohibition in the 20 s
outlawed alcohol in the US, it was often met with rebellious attitudes and illegal trades, allowing
many to acquire alcohol even during the height of Prohibition. The US today struggle with similar
problems as prohibition on marijuana is often ignored and many black market trades allow people to
have access to marijuana in the US. In the article Today s War on Drugs:Prohibition then and now,
Christopher Bracey, senior associate dean for academic affairs at George Washington University Law
School, reveals that Prohibition in the 20 s and today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people were not afraid to break the law and acquire alcohol, so many people in the US bribed law
enforcements and completely avoided the law itself. Similarly today, although law enforcement is not
bribed, there are lots of smuggling of drugs into the US, especially through the border with Mexico.
Law enforcement struggles to keep the whole border pacified, and thus, smugglers often past the
border and provided goods. Because of the fact that the public was willing to buy alcohol even though
it was illegal, and the struggles of law enforcement to control the crowd, the Prohibition led to a
failure, and the prohibition on marijuana today is faltering because of this. Since the law enforcement
couldn t handle the smuggling problem, the society continued to do illegal acts to acquire alcohol, thus
undermining and destroying the whole point of Prohibition. Similarly, the US faces a similar problem
with marijuana smuggling. However, though the smuggle of marijuana and the increasing problem of
prohibition on marijuana is evident, the US refuses to legalize marijuana, similar to the actions taken
in the 20 s, hoping that the problem will be fixed soon. Even so, the problem of marijuana prohibition
is clear as the Prohibition in the

Our objective in this science project was to make a pendulum ride for Northwood High School that
could be securely utilized by students. We needed to make a ride, with a time of precisely 1.5 seconds,
which will give a ride that is not too quick, not too slow, but just right (Northwood Land Article 1).
The ride couldn t be higher than 75 cm, it couldn t make an angle more prominent than 45 degrees,
and distinctive quantities of individuals could be on the ride at once so we should have been ready to
have diverse weights that still support with the well being capabilities. Our three hypotheses for this
undertaking were that expanding the quantity of individuals will make the ride go slower, expanding
the edge will build the period time, and ultimately, an expanded string length will expand the period
time. With a specific end goal to test our speculation and achieve the 1.5 period time, we needed to
figure out how to test every variable. We chose to consolidate the components of weight, angle, and
string length to discover which mix of the three would make a period time of 1.5 seconds while in the
meantime, attempt to demonstrate or refute our hypothesis. Altogether, we needed to make three
information tables.
To gather our information, we set up a pendulum and raised its height to 70 cm. In the wake of doing
this we joined the string to the highest point of the pendulum and

stakeholders of the actions taken by Massey Energy and its managers? The stakeholders include
everyone from Don Blankenship all the way down to the employees who were treated badly by
Massey and their higher ups. Don Blankenship had a few more benefits than costs in regards to his
company. He accrued $129 million over his 10 year stint as CEO of Massey Energy while also
maintaining a power over others beneath him. He cost himself his reputation within his community

3. Who or what caused the Upper Big Branch mine disaster, and why do you think so? The immediate
cause of the disaster is the result of a poorly maintained longwall shearer that sent a spark which could
not be extinguished because of inoperative water sprayers. This spark ignited a pocket of methane gas
that accumulated at the coal face over the course of a year because of poor ventilation. This resulted in
an explosion that fireballed throughout the mine because of the accumulation of flammable coal dust
that was not properly treated with rock dust as instructed by the MSHA. Although this was the
immediate and most detrimental cause of the disaster, I believe Don Blankenship was largely
responsible for the disaster. For almost twenty years, Blankenship had near total control over Massey
Coal Company, and later Massey Energy. During this time, he had decisive impact over the culture,
policies, and practices of the company. He directed a management system that gave priority to
productivity, which was running coal, over all other concerns, including environmental impacts,
worker health and safety, and legal compliance. As a hands on manager, he was completely and fully
aware of everything that was going on in the company, all the way down to the last tank of gasoline or
ton of coal. Therefore, he should bear the ultimate responsibility for the Upper Big Branch mine
disaster. 4. What steps could be taken now to

Conquest Of Native Americans
What made Native American peoples vulnerable to conquest by European adventures? I think there
were multiple reasons for the Native Americans were vulnerable to conquest. Economic, social
structure, militarily, and medicinally. They were also already in a period of population decline prior to
the arrival of the Europeans. Cahokia s, Aztec s, Inca s and Mayans population where no were near the
size they had been or almost completely nonexistent. Economically they didn t have the vast trading
networks that the Europeans had. They did have some reginal trade but not across the entire continent.
I think had they had a larger trade system they could have helped each other out technologically
increasing their ability to resist some of that conquest.

HOW TO BECOME A FOSSIL In reality very few living things become fossils. Not only does a
minute fraction of living things become preserved as fossils, but only an exceedingly small proportion
of the fossils that are preserved end being discovered, collected and studied. Not surprisingly, then that
the fossil record is not entirely representative of the composition of past biological communities (
Behrensmeyer and Hill 1980). Instead, fossil record preserves some organisms more than others.
Taphonomy which is the study of what happens to organism from the time they die to their discovery
is used. This approach may include both the biological and geological processes. Death may come to
the organism in a number of ways including disease, injury and or predation among others. In some
cases, the agent of death such as predators may leave marks on the skeleton such as bite marks. After
death the carcass begins to decompose when living tissues are no longer maintained by the organism,
and numerous microbes such as bacteria and insects accelerate the decomposition process. As the
decomposition goes on, scavenging animals such as hyenas may consume the soft tissues and in some
cases even chew on the bones. Eventually, only the most durable tissues such as dense bones remain.
However, in some cases even the dense bones may disappear due to erosion and trampling. To become
a fossil, part of the organism must be preserved by burial, a natural process by which

Socratic Seminar Analysis
During the Socratic seminar 4 questions were presented to the speakers going as follows. The
individual is always more important than society, is true because you need to focus more on one
standpoint than everything around it for equality. The good of the whole society is more critical than
the whims of an individual, I would say part of this is correct because even though thinking of the big
picture is good if you can t even fix the problems of an individual what can you really do. The laws of
the state should be obeyed , as they are constructed by the majority and the consent of the governed,
this can only work as the evil creatures that human possess are finally gone , Individuals should resist
unfairness and wrongs, no matter where they are as if they don t they will just lead to something like

Pros And Cons Of Television On TV
According to Juliet Schor, TV has been considered as a promoter of consumerism or TV is a popular
alternative way to costing a lot of spending such as concerts, restaurants, and shopping. Therefore, the
more TV a person watches, the more he/she will spend. In other words, what we see on TV every day
inflates our sense of what s normal or what s not, and what we should be buying just to look like the
lifestyle in TV. Ironically, the lifestyle depicted on TV are far different from the typically Americans
lifestyle, because those characters in the TV are upper middle class with glamorous clothing or even
the rich people. Besides, watching a lot of TV leads to a significant increase in crime rate. The most
important crime is larceny. Because by watching those products on TV made people who didn t have
that want to have and led to steal them. Likewise, by watching the TV, people have imbedded
themselves in the unbearable lifestyle, which is filled with tennis courts, private planes, swimming
pool, private cinema, private gym and separated vacation homes. By seeing these things, people start
to feel the need to spend more than what they should, and care less about the consequences they re
about to face.

Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, And Hinduism
Many religions are practiced throughout the world. The most common ones are l Christianity,
Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Each of these have their own views, preachers and
followers. Every religion is independently known because of its distinguishing holy being and god to
be worshipped. Religions give their followers the particular strategies and rules in which to lead their
lives. These rules and strategies give the distinctive identity to the followers of the particular religion.
The religion assists the followers in improving and making better the sense of the world in which they
are spending their lives. Thus religion gives their followers the particular way and teachings to follow
in order to guide their lives.
In today s multicultural societies there is cold war among people because of religion issues. The way
religions are interpreted and practiced makes for significant changes and distinctions. However it is
also the matter of fact that each religion wants the people of other religions to accept and adopt their
religions because all religions believe that their religion is the greatest religion in the world. Though
all the religions give the specific and distinctive teachings and have the different beliefs and
characteristics, still each religion gives the teachings of humanity and love with the mankind.
Islam is also one of the greatest religions that are being practiced in many parts of the world. Islam has
given the significant identity to its followers

The Parthenon Sculptures
The British Government have an obligation to give back the Parthenon Sculptures in the British
Museum back to the Greek government. This is due to the importance the Statues have in Greek
Culture, the importance of having the Acropolis once again united, and the high level of evidence
supporting the claim that the British stole the statues. This essay will aim to explain each of these
points, a well as the British Rebuttals. Not only this, but a recount will be made on the attempt made
by myself and a classmate as we attempted to replicate this debate and negotiate for a peaceful
outcome.
Since 1983, after the transition from Post Civil War Greece to the Modern Day Democratic Greece,
the Greek Government has demanded the return of its ancient Parthenon Sculptures from the British
Museum in London. After Greece regained its independence and government, it has demanded for the
stolen statues to be returned to Greece so they can be united with the rest of the Parthenon and the
Acropolis. Not only this, but the Greeks put the legality of the British s taking of the statues under
question, stating it was through secrecy and conspiracy this was achieved. The British argue that under
law, they legally bought the statues from the Ottomans (The then rulers of Greece) in 1811 with Lord
Elgin. Not only this, but they state that they wish to preserve the statues in London, to showcase to the
world mankind s greatest achievements. While both sides offer valid and tenacious arguments,

The Main Character Of Adam Mitchell s Courageous Leadership
Courageous Leadership In the movie Courageous, the main character, Adam Mitchell, shows the
audience what a true leader looks like. He does not do so by telling us what is right and what is wrong,
he does so by living his life as an example of what a good leader and a good man should look like. He
shows us the courage that is required to live by example he shows his trust in God which shows that
he is not trying to live and lead for himself, and he shows his integrity makes him a man worth

His main moment of putting his trust in God was when he accepted his daughter s death and trusted
that God was taking care of her in heaven. If he had not trusted God like he did, he would not have
learned to trust God and act courageously like he did. His trust in God also lead to one other attribute
that helped mold him into a good leader and a good man, and that was integrity. His integrity was the
characteristic that allowed other men to follow him with a clean heart. His refusal to do what he knew
to be wrong strengthened his role as a leader every time he exercised it. The integrity needed to turn in
your best friend for dealing drugs is astounding. Even though his wife and his commanding officer
were questioning whether he should listen to his conscience, he did so any way. His integrity also
shone when he signed his resolution. The idea that he wanted to state publicly in front of everyone
who he cared about, that he was going to live his life with integrity and by honoring God is
astounding. This showed that he is a man who is worth following. This integrity is what makes him a
man worth following. Without it, he would be a leader with nowhere to lead. What is interesting in
this movie is the idea that Courageous emphasizes the fact that you cannot have just courage, just
trust, or just integrity in order to be a leader and a Godly man. If you only have courage, you will not

Nerve conduction studies are now routine, and can be done in virtually any hospital equipped with the
appropriate machine and staffed with a qualified examiner. The nerve conduction study utilizes a
computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These filters are
mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from the signal
produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed on the skin over
the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs. Some of the
electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other electrodes (reference
electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating
properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the
electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. The electrical stimulation
is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single point. This is done because
conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions of a nerve conduct more
slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at several sites, a more accurate
overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. The electrical current activates nerves in the

Summary Of Why Literature By Ruben Dario s A...
In his essay Why Literature? Varga Llosa exalted with great enthusiasm that the value of literature is
the way it makes us think and question and create. As such, it is a value that can be seen, more often
than not, in the subversive feature of literature that allows for the uprising of minds against the norms
that society imposes and the guidelines that leaders define and proclaim. As such, Rubén Darío s A
Roosevelt is a poem worth studying, as with its multiple historical reference and its direct attack
against the former president and the United States of America, one would truly be hard pressed to find
a better example of Llosa s exclamations and the subversive nature of literature. To understand
literature, one must first understand the form. Darío s A Roosevelt is a poem that is composed of fifty
one line arranged in five irregular stanzas with verses of arte mayor, meaning they have 9 or more
syllables per line, and free verse (source). This creates an interesting story like effect to poem, which
is only aided further by the use of many historical and mythological references. Additionally, the poem
can be divided into two great parts. The first part is from verse number one to verse twenty nine, that
is, the first three verses. In this first part the poet describes the United States, from his point of view,
and all that characterizes the personality of this State. Darío shows resentment towards this country of
which he speaks and attributes to him a series of

Persuasive Essay On Religion
You might as well cut off your entire personality under the roof of religious parents, or at least learn to
pretend you are someone else in front of them. There is no having your own beliefs, being gay or
being with someone of another race. You learn to find excuses on why you haven t found yourself a
white, Christian man like I don t know mom, I guess God hasn t provided him for me yet, when really
the only guy you re looking for is in fact a woman. If you came out of the closet, of course, you can
bet God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning and your family will shun you. You also have to
be cautious of when you say you don t believe in God, because really you do, you ve just turned away
from him. You get to go to church a little more because your family thinks that Satan has gotten a hold
on you. What you need to do is wipe away any free will you think you have and get on your knees and
pray to God for redemption. Get use to the white walls around you because when they find out you
have a happy relationship with a black boy you will never see another room beside your own. I like to
call this one House Arrest.
That s where I m at now. No more phone, no more going outside, no more even walking to the bus
stop without my mom by my side. I d like to state for the record that I do not enjoy lying to my
parents. I wish that I could be open and honest with them, but their minds are set on two things; they
must be white and they must be Christian.

The Potential Transformative Power of Education in...
For those whose lives are the most controlled and exploited by systems of domination, the potential
for a critical re imagining of pedagogy is an unknown myth of academia. Philosophers and college
students extol the transformative potential of education. Rarely, however, do their accolades manifest
as tangible action in the ghettoes, slums, and cities of America. Nevertheless, these archetypal zones
of exclusion have seen their share of new educational movements. Magnet and charter schools,
increased community involvement, and innovative extracurricular programs all carry significant
potential for breaking past the omnipresent economic boundaries which masquerade as intellectual
impasses. While these programs have their faults and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An institution stigmatized as a production site for malaise and boredom may instead reallocate its
wartime production the creation of an educational currency of grades and scores and ranks and

norm of intelligence , dedicated to causes that matter, and prepared to engage in the world rather than
retreat from or violently and mindlessly rebel against it. This is the potential of education which must
be seized by those who understand its importance. This is also, however, the site of a void within the
prison system.
The Malcolm X Institute
Few experiences are as capable of dispelling preconceived notions about the American criminal
system as a visit to a prison. Teaching in a prison is surely one of them. Each Tuesday I embark on an
hour long excursion from the East Village to Riker s Island Prison. This traversing of worlds is
perhaps most powerful while the bus makes its way across the uneasy, uneven bridge which
constitutes the only physical connection between the prison and the rest of New York City. The prison
s placement is terribly discomforting. It is a world unto itself, and yet is surrounded by the normal and
highly visible world of New York City on a good day, I could probably toss a Frisbee

Go Set A Watchman Themes
Themes in Go Set a Watchman Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee has many major themes, which
come up throughout the story. One major theme is the growth from her childhood, in the previous
book, to the current book. Jean Louise Finch has grown up and become more knowing from the last
book; she realizes things she did not realize before (even about her father who she is very close to). In
fact, even her name sounds more adult like, because she was known by her nickname, Scout , in the
last book. This book shows the change of Scout into a woman, with her own beliefs and ideas separate
from even her father. When she finally splits her ideas from Atticus , her Uncle explains to her what
has happened, ... now you, Miss, born with your own conscience,

Walter Disney Research Paper
What if you became a millionaire for something that you loved to do? From noiseless films, to
colorless productions, all it took was one individual to create a more modern stance of entertainment.
Films as we know, on an everyday basis have been changed to match the way that society views

Breaking Social Norms
Social Norms dictate what is acceptable in society and in some ways help society to productive and
orderly. Norms are a set of protocol that we have all learned and follow and laws that we are held to
because we participate in society. Many times social norms keep the average citizen to themselves and
within their own sphere unless an emergency arrives where or a situation when spontaneous must
occur. When individuals within the society break the social norms and step outside the standards that
everyone lives by, the society shuns the behavior and separates it self from the thing that is not
adhering to the social norm. Within our society we frown behaviors such as public drunkenness and
vagrancy so when we see homeless people many assume

Homeless Population Of New South Wales
Overview In a country as prosperous as Australia, no one should have to be homeless.
The Road Home, 2008
Homelessness is a complex problem and not simply a lack of housing. It has numerous causes that
affect different groups differently. In Australia, there are approximately 105000 people experiencing
homelessness reported in the 2011 census. This equates to one in every two hundred people. The
homeless population of New South Wales accounts for over one quarter of the total in Australia, at
over 28000. One is considered to be homeless if they do not have access to safe, secure and adequate
housing. Homelessness generally refers to three types of homelessness with varying severity.

Customer Service Quality At Comcast Corporation Essay
Customer Service Quality
Lack of good quality customer service can have a negative impact on any company, from fast food
restaurants to large corporations with call centers. Looking at Comcast Corporation as a specific
example of poor customer service quality, we will identify the source of the negative impact and
provide different options for improvement of quality within the call center.
Comcast Corporation started out as a small cable company and grew tremendously to the number one
company in internet and cable providers. This growth is directly correlated to the risks CEO Brian
Roberts has taken throughout the years such as buying smaller cable companies, successfully
acquiring investors to back the corporation, and at times learning from past mistakes. With a company
this big, problems are going to arise, but at what cost does a lack of quality in the customer service
department ultimately bring? Bad news travels a lot faster than good news, but if a company already
stands in the number one position, is upper management truly concerned? Business Insider s article
The 15 Worse Companies for Customer Service rated Comcast #4. The second lowest ranked cable
service. (Nisen, 2013) This refers to the television service alone, however, both internet and cable
received low scores. Comcast has lost hundreds of thousands of TV subscribers, due to online
streaming of shows with the use of Hulu and Netflix. Would a high quality of customer service give

The Nazis And The Nazi Regime
The Nazis, who came to power with the leader Adolf Hitler in Germany in January 1933, believed in a
radical genetic restricting of society where ethnic cleansing of Jews was the main priority. Nazi
regime wanted to make German Aryan race superior and the Jews were considered inferior within
German racial community. The Holocaust was state sponsored organized oppression and homicide of
six million Jews by the Nazi regime. During the era of the Holocaust, German authorities also targeted
other groups, and the process involved, the sterilization of those thought to be social misfits, the
killing of the disabled, homosexuals and Roma, the enslaving of Slavs and the selective dispensing of
welfare according to interpretations of genetic worth (Finaldi, 96). After Nazis took over the
government in Germany, their National Socialist government established concentration camps for
their political opponents. However, before the outbreak of war, Nazi officials started using these
camps for incarceration of Jews, and other victims of racial and ethnic hatred. Millions of innocent
people were murdered just because of their ethnic or racial differences, however, thousands were
lucky enough to survive from Nazi tyranny.
Schindler s List by Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest films that has ever been filmed. It
emphasizes the characteristics of Nazi regime, and not only portrays the Holocaust, but it also
awakens human emotions and gives hope to the humanity. The entire film

Miller Saying To You Summary
Analysis Paper 4 What is Miller Saying to You? Ed Potter The one point Miller (2012) made that
caught my attention was the substantial role he emphasized motivation plays in an individual s
decision to stop using drugs and alcohol. Personally, I always agreed with this thought, however, it
was in a different context. I was always under the impression that once an individual had suffered
enough as a result of their addiction, change would occur. However, Miller (2012) provided sound
examples of the motivational process and how and why it is key in an individual s decision to abstain
from substances.
It has been my experience that when working with individuals suffering from substance abuse,
motivation is often one of the biggest hurdles

Waiting For Godot Essay
The atomic bomb signaled not only the commencement of the Cold War, but also a political divide

existential views regarding the meaning of life arose. Through their texts, composers subverted
dominant Cold War paradigms to ........ ATQ....... Samuel Beckett s modernist existential play Waiting

This is established at the beginning of Act 1, through an allusion to Christian philosophy in Vladimir s
dialogue about the fable of the two thieves, where One is supposed to have been saved and the other
damned . In his allusion to the Bible, Beckett emphasises chance being woven into even the most
sacred of texts that supposedly hold the ultimate truth for humanity. Moreover, in his book
Understanding Samuel Beckett (1990), Alan Astro highlights that it is God s silence that causes the
real hopelessness amidst all the comical actions of Beckett s characters. He suggests, the recourse to
bookkeeping by the philosopher (Pascal) no less than the clownish tramp shows how helpless we are
with respect to God s silence . However, while Beckett s play is concerned with a loss of meaning, it
raises a positive message, implying we are free to give our own lives meaning and purpose, free to
redeem our suffering by making something of it (Kaufmann). While Beckett sees little reason for hope
after witnessing the trauma caused by the very weapons meant to preserve world peace, he is unable to
relinquish it entirely. This is evident in the symbol of the tree. The tree is central to the set design of
the play, for the sprouting of leaves in act 2, metaphorically suggests new life and resolution an image

The Struggle Between Economics And Ecology
Right from the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century, there has been a fierce
debate concerning how economic growth or development affects the environment or ecological setup
of a country. The debate has its basis on whether it would be recommendable for a nation to
concentrate on growing its economy while at the same time hurting or harming its ecological system.
Naturalists like Pinchot Gifford, John Muir, Love Canal and Cuyahoga County always argued in favor
of environmental preservation as opposed to concentrating all efforts towards developing the economy
(Olmes 154; Miller 150 51). This paper will, therefore, discuss the struggle between economics and
ecology specifically looking at particular events across the Twentieth Century. It will also attempt to
explain the factors involved in the pursuit for change on the way people and the administration
perceived the environmental conservation as opposed to economic growth.
The Twentieth Century conservationists like John Muir and Gifford Pinchot always argued that it was
important for the government of the day to strike a balance between the two conflicting goals of
economic development and environmental conservation. According to Menzel (2007; 3 4), other
environmental movements in the USA had been in constant conflict with industrial enterprises. The
major root cause of conflict being the fact that industrial enterprises had ignored the fact their
activities were hurting the environment through

Equal Pay Act Of 1964 Essay
There are four Acts passed by Congress that were pivotal for equality in the American workforce.
Until these laws were passed by Congress, people of color and woman suffered grave injustices in the
form of hiring, income, promotion, and termination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended the Jim Crow
laws of the South that promoted segregation and many laws of inequality that plagued the southern
states in America. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 helped establish equal pay for women in the workforce.
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 established litigation for working pregnant women. The
Civil Rights Act of 1991 greater enforced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and held organization
monetarily responsible for violations of discriminations to minorities. The learning of these important
laws will help an individual better understand their rights as it pertains to employment in the

  • 2. Singer Theme Being raised by a rabbi in a large Jewish neighborhood, Isaac Bashevis Singer uses Jewish beliefs and themes as the focal point in almost all of his works. As Singer retells many childhood stories in his memoir In My Father s Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he witnesses his father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in his later adult work, as seen in his short story A Crown of Feathers ; though it is evident through the story that his view on forgiveness had changed as he grew older. While Singer has retained the theme of forgiveness in his work, it has matured and darkened as a result of his life experiences. As the son of a rabbi, Singer was able to see firsthand the ... However, as he grew into an adult and the world around him drastically changed, Singer realized that his beliefs were not as simple as he thought as a child and that there is much more inner turmoil present needed for forgiveness. This realization came with growing up in a conflict ridden Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. Singer s perception of forgiveness evolved not only due to simply growing up, but also possibly because of the Holocaust and its effect on other Jews, as he was able to avoid it. Singer s relationship with forgiveness shows the complexity of both faith and emotion and how childhood innocence is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Strangelove Attitudes Towards The Atomic Bomb And Cold War Anja Muller Professor Cody Eldredge PS 1600: Issues in World Politics Oct. 10, 2017 Dr. Strangelove, Attitudes Towards the Atomic Bomb and Cold War Less than two years after the United States society had been scared almost to death by the Cuban Missile Crisis, 1964 the movie Dr. Strangelove was released to the movie theatres and showed the country the end of the world. Advertised as the film of the era, Dr. Strangelove severely teased the President, the entire military defense establishment, and the rhetoric of the Cold War. At that time, the nation that was living through the stress of the nuclear arms race, and had confronted the real outlook of nuclear war. The satiric treatment of the nation s leaders was a release from deep doubts and pressures. The Cold War is well known not only for its long assignation among the two super powers, the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also because of the delicate physical pressure that nuclear power brought to the global stage. Viewed, however, in its context of the Cold War and nuclear proliferation, the conditions of the Cold War made it different than former international wars, because it was the first conflict that could hypothetically lead to enormous, global destruction. Without the hazards of nuclear power, the Cold War wouldn t have differed much from previous historical conflicts between powerful states. Stanley Kubrick s 1964 political satire, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, is a hurtful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Circuit Court Case Study In this instant appeal, Mr. Shoemaker asserts that the circuit court erred by imposing an improper purge provision after finding him to be in contempt, and that the circuit court erred in finding that Mr. Shoemaker would be liable for alimony payments in accordance with the parties original separation agreement. We shall address both of these arguments in turn. I. The Circuit Court Did Not Craft an Improper Purge Provision in Its Contempt Order. The scope of our review of a trial court s contempt finding is as follows: (a) Scope of review. Any person may appeal from any order or judgment passed to preserve the power or vindicate the dignity of the court and adjudge him in contempt of court, including an interlocutory order, remedial in nature, adjudging any person in contempt, whether or not a party to the action. • 6. The Advantage By Patrick Lencioni Summary The six questions required in The Advantage by Patrick Lencioni that create clarity within a corporation could easily be applied to multiple aspects of theatre [general management companies (i.e. Daryl Roth), production companies (i.e. Roundabout, MTC), unions and organizations (BCEFA, AEA), or specific productions (i.e. Bright Star)]. However, I think the questions will be most fruitful when applied to my professional self: Miranda the Stage Manager. Considering the position I am in nearing graduation with a terminal theatre degree I need to take my last few months at school to discover who I am professionally and what I want for my career. Upon graduation, I will be a freelance stage manager, meaning that I hold the sole responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, I get internally riled up when I see actors asked to do things outside of their contract. Most of the actors in Othello are new, uneducated AEA members. Unlike the stage management program, the CU acting program does not delve into union rules and the actors did not read their ANTC contract prior to signing it. So, when they are using their personal clothing items in the shows, I feel the need to tell them that they are contractually owed compensation. Or, when the director schedules pick up rehearsals on two show days, I get the intense desire to tell the Equity Deputy that this is expressly forbidden in our contract (especially when I hear the cast complain of exhaustion before the first show even begins.) While my information may be accurate, I am genuinely unsure if and when my meddling is appropriate. I, personally, do not like having an extra, uncompensated rehearsal on a two show day either, but I feel incapable of complaining on behalf of myself. • 7. Job Evaluation, Performance Management, And Compensation In order to lay a foundation for a balanced, unbiased and fair system of pay, job evaluation has to be in place. While people may think the focus is on the employee in the position, this could not be further from the truth. The focus is primarily based on the job itself. The contribution of the employee is covered in performance appraisal (Nigro Kellough, 2014, p. 103). In most organizations where work is being performed, it is structured rather discretely and certain tasks are set into identifiable jobs. Job evaluation is to enhance efficiency and equity in a variety of core personnel functions (p. 103). It is very useful when involving recruitment, examination, selection, performance management, and compensation (p. 103). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 103). This system simplifies the employee appraisal process and ensures that the development of the pay system is equal (p. 103). With any system and organization there are issues, advantages and disadvantages. This research will also focus on the methods involving job analysis and evaluation, job pricing, and the issues in the public sector pay policies. The advantages and disadvantages of four different job evaluation methods will also be thoroughly discussed. Job analysis plays a vital role in a lot of human related activities, but every process that has interventions, has limitations. According to Michael Armstrong (2003), job analysis provides first hand job related information, it provides valuable job related data that helps managers (p. 173). Managers analyze the duties and responsibilities of a particular job, risks and hazards involved in it, and skills and abilities required to perform the job (p. 173). One of the most important activities it helps with is, creating suitable jobs for employees. When HR fits the right person, in the right job, it tests the skills, understanding and competency of the HR manager. It helps them understand what type of person is suitable for the position (p. 173). Armstrong (2003) provides information regarding job analysis and several helpful tips with establishing operative hiring practices and training needs such as, who should be hired, where they should be placed, when to convey training and how, what type of ... • 8. Analysis Of The Poem Dog By Lawrence Ferlinghetti There are many literary devices in the poem Dog by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, which can be found in Ann Charters The Portable Beat Reader. In this particular poem, the use of symbolism is heavily embodied throughout each stanza. Looking at this from a standard viewpoint does not give the reader a chance to comprehend the meaning of the poem. However, by analyzing and dissecting each stanza, it would not seem to be just a group of random words stitched together, but rather a poem about Lawrence Ferlinghetti s assessment of the modern world. As the supposed dog wanders freely and explores the world around him, the symbolic images that the dog experiences along his journey truly gives an in depth view of the term Beat from the emerging Beat Generation of the 1950s. Qualities of the post World War II Beat culture include obscene and defiant behaviors in addition to an environment paved with drugs and poverty. One of the stories that best portrays the central elements of the Beat culture is the story of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty in On the Road by Jack Kerouac. In fact, Jack Kerouac is the writer who was the first to coin the term Beat Generation. In the story, Sal Paradise meets a highly experimental and charismatic man dubbed Dean Moriarty. The story follows them as they travel from corner to corner of the country searching for meaning, all while facing adversities such as confusion, depression, drugs, alcohol, and overall abandonment. Similarly, though Prohibition in the 20 s outlawed alcohol in the US, it was often met with rebellious attitudes and illegal trades, allowing many to acquire alcohol even during the height of Prohibition. The US today struggle with similar problems as prohibition on marijuana is often ignored and many black market trades allow people to have access to marijuana in the US. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people were not afraid to break the law and acquire alcohol, so many people in the US bribed law enforcements and completely avoided the law itself. Similarly today, although law enforcement is not bribed, there are lots of smuggling of drugs into the US, especially through the border with Mexico. Law enforcement struggles to keep the whole border pacified, and thus, smugglers often past the border and provided goods. Because of the fact that the public was willing to buy alcohol even though it was illegal, and the struggles of law enforcement to control the crowd, the Prohibition led to a failure, and the prohibition on marijuana today is faltering because of this. Since the law enforcement couldn t handle the smuggling problem, the society continued to do illegal acts to acquire alcohol, thus undermining and destroying the whole point of Prohibition. Similarly, the US faces a similar problem with marijuana smuggling. However, though the smuggle of marijuana and the increasing problem of prohibition on marijuana is evident, the US refuses to legalize marijuana, similar to the actions taken in the 20 s, hoping that the problem will be fixed soon. • 10. A Research Study On Nhs Pendulum Lab Youssef Elseifi Mr. Dickson Honors Integrated Science 1 Row 2 Period 4 10/3/16 NHS Pendulum Lab Our objective in this science project was to make a pendulum ride for Northwood High School that could be securely utilized by students. We needed to make a ride, with a time of precisely 1.5 seconds, which will give a ride that is not too quick, not too slow, but just right (Northwood Land Article 1). The ride couldn t be higher than 75 cm, it couldn t make an angle more prominent than 45 degrees, and distinctive quantities of individuals could be on the ride at once so we should have been ready to have diverse weights that still support with the well being capabilities. Our three hypotheses for this undertaking were that expanding the quantity of individuals will make the ride go slower, expanding the edge will build the period time, and ultimately, an expanded string length will expand the period time. With a specific end goal to test our speculation and achieve the 1.5 period time, we needed to figure out how to test every variable. We chose to consolidate the components of weight, angle, and string length to discover which mix of the three would make a period time of 1.5 seconds while in the meantime, attempt to demonstrate or refute our hypothesis. Altogether, we needed to make three information tables. To gather our information, we set up a pendulum and raised its height to 70 cm. In the wake of doing this we joined the string to the highest point of the pendulum and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stakeholders include everyone from Don Blankenship all the way down to the employees who were treated badly by Massey and their higher ups. Don Blankenship had a few more benefits than costs in regards to his company. He accrued $129 million over his 10 year stint as CEO of Massey Energy while also maintaining a power over others beneath him. He cost himself his reputation within his community and his employees. Massey s employees barely had any benefits other than a relatively well paying job to support their families, otherwise the list of costs that occurred to the employees ... The immediate cause of the disaster is the result of a poorly maintained longwall shearer that sent a spark which could not be extinguished because of inoperative water sprayers. This spark ignited a pocket of methane gas that accumulated at the coal face over the course of a year because of poor ventilation. This resulted in an explosion that fireballed throughout the mine because of the accumulation of flammable coal dust that was not properly treated with rock dust as instructed by the MSHA. Although this was the immediate and most detrimental cause of the disaster, I believe Don Blankenship was largely responsible for the disaster. For almost twenty years, Blankenship had near total control over Massey Coal Company, and later Massey Energy. During this time, he had decisive impact over the culture, policies, and practices of the company. He directed a management system that gave priority to productivity, which was running coal, over all other concerns, including environmental impacts, worker health and safety, and legal compliance. As a hands on manager, he was completely and fully aware of everything that was going on in the company, all the way down to the last tank of gasoline or ton of coal. Therefore, he should bear the ultimate responsibility for the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. 4. What steps could be taken now to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think there were multiple reasons for the Native Americans were vulnerable to conquest. Economic, social structure, militarily, and medicinally. They were also already in a period of population decline prior to the arrival of the Europeans. Cahokia s, Aztec s, Inca s and Mayans population where no were near the size they had been or almost completely nonexistent. Not only does a minute fraction of living things become preserved as fossils, but only an exceedingly small proportion of the fossils that are preserved end being discovered, collected and studied. Not surprisingly, then that the fossil record is not entirely representative of the composition of past biological communities ( Behrensmeyer and Hill 1980). Instead, fossil record preserves some organisms more than others. Taphonomy which is the study of what happens to organism from the time they die to their discovery is used. This approach may include both the biological and geological processes. Death may come to the organism in a number of ways including disease, injury and or predation among others. In some cases, the agent of death such as predators may leave marks on the skeleton such as bite marks. After death the carcass begins to decompose when living tissues are no longer maintained by the organism, and numerous microbes such as bacteria and insects accelerate the decomposition process. As the decomposition goes on, scavenging animals such as hyenas may consume the soft tissues and in some cases even chew on the bones. Eventually, only the most durable tissues such as dense bones remain. However, in some cases even the dense bones may disappear due to erosion and trampling. The individual is always more important than society, is true because you need to focus more on one standpoint than everything around it for equality. The good of the whole society is more critical than the whims of an individual, I would say part of this is correct because even though thinking of the big picture is good if you can t even fix the problems of an individual what can you really do. The laws of the state should be obeyed , as they are constructed by the majority and the consent of the governed, this can only work as the evil creatures that human possess are finally gone , Individuals should resist unfairness and wrongs, no matter where they are as if they don t they will just lead to something like the holocaust. Pros And Cons Of Television On TV According to Juliet Schor, TV has been considered as a promoter of consumerism or TV is a popular alternative way to costing a lot of spending such as concerts, restaurants, and shopping. Therefore, the more TV a person watches, the more he/she will spend. In other words, what we see on TV every day inflates our sense of what s normal or what s not, and what we should be buying just to look like the lifestyle in TV. Ironically, the lifestyle depicted on TV are far different from the typically Americans lifestyle, because those characters in the TV are upper middle class with glamorous clothing or even the rich people. Besides, watching a lot of TV leads to a significant increase in crime rate. The most important crime is larceny. Because by watching those products on TV made people who didn t have that want to have and led to steal them. Likewise, by watching the TV, people have imbedded themselves in the unbearable lifestyle, which is filled with tennis courts, private planes, swimming pool, private cinema, private gym and separated vacation homes. By seeing these things, people start to feel the need to spend more than what they should, and care less about the consequences they re about to face. Religions give their followers the particular strategies and rules in which to lead their lives. These rules and strategies give the distinctive identity to the followers of the particular religion. The religion assists the followers in improving and making better the sense of the world in which they are spending their lives. Thus religion gives their followers the particular way and teachings to follow in order to guide their lives. In today s multicultural societies there is cold war among people because of religion issues. The way religions are interpreted and practiced makes for significant changes and distinctions. This is due to the importance the Statues have in Greek Culture, the importance of having the Acropolis once again united, and the high level of evidence supporting the claim that the British stole the statues. This essay will aim to explain each of these points, a well as the British Rebuttals. Not only this, but a recount will be made on the attempt made by myself and a classmate as we attempted to replicate this debate and negotiate for a peaceful outcome. Since 1983, after the transition from Post Civil War Greece to the Modern Day Democratic Greece, the Greek Government has demanded the return of its ancient Parthenon Sculptures from the British Museum in London. After Greece regained its independence and government, it has demanded for the stolen statues to be returned to Greece so they can be united with the rest of the Parthenon and the Acropolis. Not only this, but the Greeks put the legality of the British s taking of the statues under question, stating it was through secrecy and conspiracy this was achieved. The British argue that under law, they legally bought the statues from the Ottomans (The then rulers of Greece) in 1811 with Lord Elgin. His integrity was the characteristic that allowed other men to follow him with a clean heart. His refusal to do what he knew to be wrong strengthened his role as a leader every time he exercised it. The integrity needed to turn in your best friend for dealing drugs is astounding. Even though his wife and his commanding officer were questioning whether he should listen to his conscience, he did so any way. His integrity also shone when he signed his resolution. Nerve conduction studies are now routine, and can be done in virtually any hospital equipped with the appropriate machine and staffed with a qualified examiner. The nerve conduction study utilizes a computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These filters are mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from the signal produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed on the skin over the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs. Some of the electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other electrodes (reference electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. The electrical stimulation is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single point. This is done because conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions of a nerve conduct more slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at several sites, a more accurate overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. Varga Llosa exalted with great enthusiasm that the value of literature is the way it makes us think and question and create. As such, it is a value that can be seen, more often than not, in the subversive feature of literature that allows for the uprising of minds against the norms that society imposes and the guidelines that leaders define and proclaim. As such, Rubén Darío s A Roosevelt is a poem worth studying, as with its multiple historical reference and its direct attack against the former president and the United States of America, one would truly be hard pressed to find a better example of Llosa s exclamations and the subversive nature of literature. To understand literature, one must first understand the form. Darío s A Roosevelt is a poem that is composed of fifty one line arranged in five irregular stanzas with verses of arte mayor, meaning they have 9 or more syllables per line, and free verse (source). This creates an interesting story like effect to poem, which is only aided further by the use of many historical and mythological references. Additionally, the poem can be divided into two great parts. The first part is from verse number one to verse twenty nine, that is, the first three verses. In this first part the poet describes the United States, from his point of view, and all that characterizes the personality of this State.
