Attempted Murder and Criminal Acts
In this essay, I will describe the elements of a criminal act, address the law of factual
impossibility, the law of legal impossibility, and distinguish whether the alleged crime in the
scenario is a complete but imperfect attempt or an incomplete attempt. I will address the ethical or
moralistic concerns associated with allowing a criminal defendant to avoid criminal responsibility
by successfully asserting a legal defense such as impossibility. The court was clearly wrong to
dismiss the charge against Jack of attempted murderof Bert.
A crime consists of an actus reus and a mens rea, in order to obtain a conviction of a criminal
charge there must be a concurrence between the actus reus and mens rea. The elements of a
criminal act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transferred intent is when an individual has the intent to cause harm to one person but injures
another one instead (Lippman, 2012). In order to meet the requirements of transferred intent, two
questions must be asked and both questions must have a yes to apply transferred intent. The first
question: If contact had been made with the intended object (Bert), would there have been a crime
(National Paralegal College, 2014)? The answer is yes, there is a crime against pointing and firing
a gun at a human being and first degree murder. The second question: If the object with which
contact was made (Pratt) had been the intended target, would there have been a crime (National
Paralegal College, 2014)? The answer here is yes (first degree murder). Under the legal doctrine of
transferred intent, Jack is still liable for the intentional crime he intended to commit against Bert,
although, Jack mistakenly committed a crime against Pratt.
The defenses to attempt are: factual impossibility and legal impossibility. Jack s attorney is
attempting to assert factual impossibility to have the charges of the attempted murder of Bert
dismissed due to an extraneous factor (gun malfunction), which is unethical. Factual impossibility
is when a person does everything in their power to complete the target crime, but fails

How Did Nationalism Cause Ww1
Nationalism occurs when a race of group of people create an indentity in which they have a love
and a loyalty for. This group will have a common factor of race, language, culture or religion. The
assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the Austrian Archduke during the time of 1914, sparked off an
already existing conflict between Austria and Serbia. The force of Nationalism influenced this
conflict between Serbia and Austria due to the nationalistic views of the Serbian people. The
conflict that occurred on the 28th June 1914 was the assassination of the Austrian Archduke, Franz
Ferdinand. While he and his wife were visiting Bosnia, they were both shot dead by Serbian
nationalist, Gavrilo Princip, On this day nationalism was running high... Show more content on

The Schlieffen Plan was designed to give Germany dominance. The plan was for German armies
to travel through Belgium to France, and defeat France. Then further moving on to Russia to
defeat them before they had fully mobilised. Unfortunately, Germany could not reach Russia in
time, as RUssia started to mobilise too quickly. Although the assassination occurred at the
beginning of World War One, it was only an event which sparked off from other conflicts
influenced by Nationalism. These conflicts included the First Moroccan Crisis 1906, the Agadir
Incident 1911 12 and the naval arms race between Britain and Germany. The conflicts between
Serbia and Austria, and previous other conflicts which led up to World War One were
predominantly caused by the force of Nationalism. Serbian nationalistic values impacted the way
of life for Serbian people. An example of this is Gavrilo Princip. Nationalism influeced him to
join the Black Hand and consequently assassinate the Archduke of Austria. His love and loyalty
for Serbia caused him to murder for the greater good of his country. The Serbian extreme
nationalistic views were produced mainly because of the different rules over the Slav empirres. The
people of these states felt that they had to be true to their state and not the empire they belonged in.
This caused much unrest between these states. Nationalism changed the lives of people in Europe
greatly.

Child Development and Learning Focusing on Language...
Child development and learning focusing on language development This essay is about a child s
development and learning, focusing primarily on language development. It will describe the main
stages of developmental milestones and the key concepts involved for children to develop their
language skills, discussing language acquisition and social learning theory. The essay will also look
into the key theorists involved in language development, primarily Vygotsky and Chomsky, and
how these theories have had an impact on the way society views language and their implementation
within schools. The essay will describe the factors affecting language development, both biological
and environmental. While also discussing key arguments among... Show more content on

Kehliy (2009) suggests children have four basics needs; the need for love and security, new
experiences, praise and recognition and responsibility. Children have the potential to develop to
their full capacity with these needs met. Maslov in his hierarchy of needs highlighted that
children need their basic needs met before they can develop onto the next stage. He proposed five
key levels; physiology, safety, belongingness, esteem and self actualisation. Each level needs to be
fulfilled to process to the next. With this in mind Maslov s theory suggests that children and adults
cannot reach their full potential unless there needs are met. This theory is strongly represented
within the social services sector and within the care sector (Green, 2009). Smidt (2006)
highlighted that the way in which childhood is perceived changes overtime; adults construct an
image of what childhood should be. The images of childhood and the way children are perceived
are influenced by economics, politics, religion and class. This is evident within theorists differing
views of children and their theories and helps us to understand why these differ. Smidt (2006)
suggested all areas of development are strongly interrelated thus a delay in language development,
for example, can hinder the child s social or emotional development. For children to understand
emotions they need to discuss their feelings, so require the social interaction and language to
discuss this.

Golden Age Of Piracy Essay
Imagine sailing the seven seas looking for ships to plunder and cities to barricade. This was the
life of many sailors back during the Golden Age of piracy. Although many sailors lived their life
as pirates, some were actually privateers and were mistaken for pirates. Privateers were like
pirates, but instead of raiding for personal gain they did it for the sake of their country. They did
not perform gruesome executions and did not always stay at sea like other pirates. Pirates on the
other hand were usually ex privateers that realized there was more money in pirating. Pirates during
the Golden Age of Piracyoften lived a very wealthy lifestyle due to all of the loot they stole off of
ships. Most pirates during this era stayed around what is now called... Show more content on

Almost all pirate crews followed a universal code known as the pirate s code. This code was used
like the Ten Commandments but for pirates. The pirate s code decided what happened to traitors
and thieves along with what happened to men that brought women aboard the ship. The pirate s
code although universal differed from crew to crew. Before a pirate ship left port all pirates
collaborated and signed a document called the articles of agreement, also known as the pirates
code (Johnson). This ensured anything that happened at sea would be followed by the code.
Whether the culprit be the captain or a lowly deck cleaner, the code made sure peace was kept
upon the ship. Piracy always had to have laws since most people on the ship were criminals. In
the end, pirates served a critical role in the development of America. Without them Britain might
have won the war of 1812 and taken over in America. Whether it is roaming the seven seas or
barricading town, pirates lived adventurous lives that people can only dream about living today.

The Wrong Enemy
Carlotta Gall s February 6 piece in the New York Times (NYT), titled Pakistan s Hand in the Rise
of International Jihad, is a journalistic marvel. It spotlights the dizzying creativity a human brain is
capable of when paired with a massive axe to grind. Unfortunately, for prose jammed with so many
accusations, Gall s piece is surprisingly light on substantive sources. Oh, but she makes up for this
foible by heaping dollops of self righteous Americentrism.
No surprises here. Gall, after all, penned The Wrong Enemy: America in Afghanistan 2001 2014, a
tome that must surely feature as essential reading for Pakistanophobes. In her book, Gall posits that
Washington s Afghan war strategy was flawed from the get go. After felling the Taliban
, US forces
should have kept marching east instead of invading Iraq. Why? Because without Pakistan s
patronage, neither they nor Al Qaeda could ever have bloomed in the region.
Okay, so I will not harp on about the Union Oil Company of California s (UNOCAL) Taliban

Communication Challenges
Communication Challenges
Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D., is a master storyteller and a great observer of life; Remen said, The
most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most
important thing we ever give each other is our attention.... A loving silence often has far more
power to heal and to connect than the most well intentioned words. Communication, gender and
culture influence one another in many ways (Wood, 2008). People communicate either verbally, or
non verbally. Verbal and non verbal communication occurs simultaneously and work together,
complementing or contradicting each other (Harris Sherblom 2008). This paper will focus on how

The Church Of The Martyrs
A church without youth is a church without a future. Moreover, youth without a church is youth
without a future. this is a quote from the former pope of Alexandria, Pope Shenouda III. Pope
Shenouda passed away about four years ago and his episcopate lasted for over 40 years. The
Coptic church has commonly been referred to by historians as the Church of the Martyrs (A Brief
History of the Christian Church). It was given this name due to the desire of martyrdom rather than
the multitude of martyrs. The five main points of its history are the origins of Coptic Orthodox
Christianity, monasticism, contributions to Christendom, the ecumenical councils and the church
today. It is believed that the Coptic church of Egypt was the first church ever created; it was
founded by Saint Mark in approximately 42 AD. (Osman) Saint Mark is also considered to be the
first bishop and pope of Alexandria. However, it wasn t until the late second century when
Christianity was truly established in Egypt. During the second century the roman emperors had
begun to persecute the Coptic Orthodox Christians formerly known as Copts; yet as previously
stated these Copts would not hide, instead they would openly worship unafraid of death, because
it is said that martyrdom isn t the end of a life, it is believed to be an entry to a new life. The very
first persecution against the Copts was in 68 AD when Saint Mark suffered martyrdom by pagan
extremists. Then for seven years in the early second century

Political Allegories In Dante s Inferno
Inferno is an allegory of the pilgrimage of the soul and Dante draws on the mythological
dimensions to convey and express the spiritual journey that he is on. Dante construct of hell is his
own and his judgement is reflected by the societal norms which were present during his time.
Allegory, in the traditional definition is a story or poem that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden
meaning, typically a moral or political one. Allegorically, the journey which Dante goes on
represent the journey of the soul to reaching spiritual enlightenment. The allegory used in Infernois

Up until Canto IX, Virgil has been able to talk his way into the various circles, despite Dante
being human. His words have no value against those who had the guts to oppose Christ so Virgil
s words present no threat to them. This moment when the poets are refused entry shows how
words alone, no longer have the ability to get them out of any situation. Words now are not
enough to save one in the face of sin. The three female Furies have a threatening and fearful
presence. Allegorically their appearance makes us conscious of the threat of sin. The threat of
looking into their eyes shows how witnessing sin is dangerous and how the perfect female nature
is rendered perverse. Evil could appeal to Dante and the reader s sympathies before but this circle
is a playground for evil. The three female Furies show us that Dante s truth and morals have no
standing in Hell. Even though this is his construct of hell, he doesn t have control over what
happens. The sinners thus render the poets immobile. Manipulation can be seen as lying or twisting
the truth and thus allegory and symbolism, in Inferno, although having the ability to depict truth,
they also have the ability to alter ones

The Waste Of Waste
Canadians throw out garbage in their everyday lives, but how much Canadians properly dispose
of it? In 2015, roughly 2.3 million tonnes of garbage were thrown away in British Columbia
alone, an average of 497 kilograms per capita. Imagine Canada s waste combined about 25 million
tonnes. Often, household garbage ends up in landfills, but landfills are piling up and reaching
maximum capacity. Unfortunately, it is becoming a struggle to find new areas to dispose of the
tonnes of waste. Additionally, the problem of over capacitated landfills contributes to the
environment s health and as a consequence, make approximately 25% of Canada s greenhouse gas
emissions. Improperly discarding items, like batteries, electronics, and so forth, also contributes to
the environment s health, creating the risk of water and soil contamination. It is up to Canadians
and the decisions they make when it comes to recyclingand protecting the environment.
Most household items, such as TV remotes, cell phones, wireless video game controllers, and
more, require batteries to operate. Ultimately, single use or rechargeable batteries run out of juice
or corrode, and become no longer usable. Nonetheless, Canadians are guilty disposing of batteries
improperly, whether in the garbage bin or the blue bin, that later enter landfills. Statistics Canada
informs, the most common method of disposal was taking them to a depot or drop off centre
(43%), while some put them in the garbage (32%) or returned them

A Comparison Between Homer s The Odyssey And The Holy Bible
Is There a Correlation?
Homer s The Odyssey and The Holy Bible, are writings from the ancient civilizations! The
proximity regarding similar narratives between the two publications has produced curiosity in
inquiring minds. Interchangeable associations of both texts have prompted an investigation to
explain why this literary phenomenon has occurred.
In ancient Greece, Greek mythology began to emerge. Mythical narratives began to erupt for the
purpose of giving an explanation to certain social, religious, and environmental phenomena. Greek
chronicles included the gods/goddesses, heroes, and non human creatures.
Unlike Mythology, narratives of the Bible are actual events that took place dating back to the
beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible s compilation started thousands of years
ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, the Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew
language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of the New Testament
writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of
God, which resulted in sixty six books of the Holy Bible. The Holy Scriptures explained the
creations, formation of the world, God, God s chosen people, sin, and the plan of salvation as well.
Homer s The Odyssey, is an epic poem of mythology which includes twenty four books. The
ancient writings focused its topics of discussions on the Trojan War, a hero named Odysseus, and

Afterlife In The Odyssey
Afterlife
People are always questioning whether Hell and Heaven are real or not. The thought of an
afterlife is something every human thinks about. In Core 3 we read many books, one being Virgil
s The Aeneid, and another being Homer s The Odyssey. Both books have to do with men
attempting to complete a journey. Both books involve the Trojan War and journeys across roaring
seas. During each book, the men enter the afterlife with a guide to help them through Hell, and each
author gives their own thoughts depicting how it might appear. This year in Core 4 we read Dante
s Inferno, a book about Dante going to the afterlife guided by Virgil, a Roman poet. The authors all

All the stories describe what Hell might be like, just from three different perspectives. There are
also differences when comparing the three. In Dante s first Canto, we learn that large beasts guard
the gates of Hell and, to get up to heaven, you must pass through Hell and Purgatory. The large
beasts at the front gates are similar in both Homer s and Virgil s idea of what the front gate
could be like. Dante has Virgil to guide him, Odysseus did not really have a guide but Aeneas
had the Sibyl. Dante, like Aeneas and Odysseus, performed rituals before he entered Hell. When
Dante enters hell he is very scared knowing that very few people who are alive that ever enter
Hell and also come back. In all three stories the living are not welcomed into Hell. Aeneas had
the golden stick, Odysseus had permission, and Dante was allowed because Virgil acquainted
him, who was helped from above. All three characters, when coming up to the gate of Hell, hear
cries of the tortured souls and understand this is a place for torment. In the Aeneid, to enter Hell,
you must cross a river, but not in the Odyssey. The Odyssey does mention some rivers, but does
not get into detail about them. Dante is taken across this river by Cheron. He runs the ferry and
takes the doomed souls across the Acheron. The river is filled with souls trying to escape, but they
cannot; this is similar to the

The Differences Between Human And Body Systems
Frogs are called amphibians, and humans are classified as mammals. As well, our exterior
appearances of frogs and humans look contrastive, but nonetheless besides the differences, our
interior appearances share many similarities. Some similarities include body structure such as eyes,
ears, a mouth, and nose. Other similarities include our basic organs like lungs, a stomach, and a
heart. Also, just like humans frogs are composed of many different body systems, three of which
are the circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems, which work together to help them live.
However, we also share many differences. Some examples of our external differences are our

1 When the ventricle contracts, the oxygenated blood is taken to the carotid arteries (to the head),
and deoxygenated blood is taken to the pulmocutanoeus arteries (to the skin and lungs where
fresh oxygen can be picked up).2 In systematic circulation of a human, arteries pick up oxygen
rich blood from the heart and transport it to the body tissues. During this process oxygen is
diffused into the cells and carbon dioxide is also diffused from the cells into the blood. In
pulmonary circulation, deoxygenated blood is carried from the heart to the lungs and
oxygenated blood from the lungs is returned to the heart.3 The 4 chambered heart of a human
has the advantage over simpler structures because it allows us to send our deoxygenated blood to
the lungs and our oxygenated blood to the rest of the body without having to mix the two. 4
Because of a human s size and complexity, we need a more efficient circulation system and that is
why a 4 chambered heart works best for us, while a 3 chambered heart works best for frogs
because they are much smaller and more simple than humans.
Frogs and humans breathe for the same reason: to take in oxygen and pass carbon dioxide. We also
both have lungs, but that is where our similarities end. 5 The differences in our respiratory systems
lie in the fact that our living conditions are different. Humans use 1 type of respiration while frogs
use 3, and therefore humans breathe only through their lungs,

The Five Things I Have Learned
In this course, History 101 Western Civilization to 1689, the five things I have learned are:
Homer s life and writings; Aristotle, and his synthesis of early thinkers; Alexander the Great,
and his legacy; Julius Caesar, and his power; and finally, Martin Luther, and his influence. I feel
that in this course I learned more about people in history than I have ever learned before. These
people I am discussing have made tremendous impacts on the world and have allowed so much
growth in western civilization. The topics I have picked to discuss are the most important to me
because they symbolize, in my mind, eras, and the great changes of the world, mainly through
mindset and belief. These five topics show how people are needed to make changes, and to
make history, and how the ideas that are brought before these times have lasted the years. The
first major thing that I learned was about Homer; who he was and how his writings helped shape
the Greek spirit and Greek religion (Perry, Chase and Jacob). I feel that Homer, and his works,
such as Iliad and The Odyssey , were very important because they allowed a transformation in the
views of an individual. Homer placed the individual as another force of life that has the power to
change events and determine their own lives, not just the gods, in his works. Homer s view of the
eternal order of the world and his conception of the individual striving for excellence that brought
honor and esteem form the foundations of the Greek

Compare Beowulf Is An Epic Hero Archetypes
Epic Hero This essay is going to be comparing how the character Beowulf and Roy Hobbs are
alike and different. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and
both a great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic
Hero but are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to
accomplish are completely different. Beowulfhas strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero
. He Saves the day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple
examples of his strength is how he ripped off grendel s arm when he tried to run away. No normal
person would be able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he
slew grendel s motheras everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of
an epic hero. He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very
good leader and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the
people. Beowulf is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all
the time and there are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different
than the way people are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more
barbaric, like when Beowulf ripped off grendel s arm and they hung it up on front of the door for
everyone to see. Then when

A. Industrial Power and
B. Naval Power (military)
The British Industrial Revolution was the height of technology. British productivity was
ahead of the rest of the world by a large amount. Thus making it an economic world power.
So how did the Industrial Revolution loosen the grip of slavery? The answer, technology
was becoming more efficient than slavery. Before technology, it would take a lot of slave labor
to make x amount of widgets. Now with technology, a small amount of labor could make more
widgets than that of massive slave labor. Technology made slavery less efficient, and at the same
time, technology created a new class of people.
The huge number of products being produced had to be sold by a merchant class ( middle class ).
Before the Industrial ( I. R. ) there was no real middle class. 97% were poor, 2% middle, and 1%
wealthy. Now with the I. R. we have a large middle class, like never seen before in the history of
the world.
The I. R. also allows for leasure time. Maslow theory of heirical needs ( number 1) is survival.
So before the I. R. the largest class of people were poor. Their only concern was survival and
nothing else. Now with the I. R. you have a middle class with leisure time. Now one has time

Persuasive Essay Homelessness
As someone who lived on $8,000 for 2 years, Veronica Harnish says, Blaming personal failures
for their circumstances merely provides an excuse for not responding to the real causes of
homelessness. The issue at hand is that there is as many as 3.5 million homeless people in
America as of 2017. A quarter of these people are children and we need to find a way to help this
generation and the next from not having a safe place to sleep, or a job to make money, or even
just a place to have fun without any worries. By developing shelters, giving young children a place
to feel safe and have fun, or helping the homeless find jobs that they couldn t get before, we can
help our generation and future generations fix homelessness. All of these solutions are ways that we
can help the homeless.
The first and foremost solution deals with jobs and finding a source of income. Many people
don t have a chance to get an income, or they just had a bad experience that left them dry. This
should not make them homeless. These are reasons why it is important to help homeless people
find jobs. One example is a program sponsored by the US Department of Labor, called
HVRP(Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program). It helps war veterans who come home from
war get education, training and even counseling services to help find a job. So far, this program
has helped over 8,000 members veterans find jobs. According to Frederico Juarbe, Jr, Through last
year s HVRP grant, St. Patrick helped 160 homeless

How Does Tim O Brien Use Anaphora In The Ghost Soldier
In The Ghost Soldiers vignette from The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien uses anaphora in the
form of repeating the word you to place the reader in his war experience, ultimately to portray how
war can transform any individual to become illusioned and rely on only the logic of their instincts.
When O Brien describes his understanding of fear after pulling several night guard duties in
Vietnam, he describes it to be where you think about dark closets, mad men, murderers under the
bed, all those childhood fears...You see ghosts. You blink and shake your head. Bullshit, you tell
yourself (205). To O Brien, the darkness can transform superficial horrors in daylight into real solid
substances that seems to be closest to reality. For the audience... Show more content on

O Brien may have believed it in the beginning, when he was still a greenie , but one exposure to
the real war environment can quickly change his mind. War is not like the movies, movies that
shows the perfect courageous good always defeating the obvious evil. It s impossible for a real
soldier to follow the footsteps of heroes in entertainment, and he wants to emphasize this point to
the readers: You re not human anymore. You re a shadow. You slip out of your own skin, like
molting, shedding your own history and your own future, or leaving behind everything you ever
were or wanted or believed in. You know you re about to die. And it s not a movie and you aren t
a hero and all you can do is whimper and wait (211). The emotions he feels at the time is hard to
put into words, and so he makes the reader try to experience it, just as he wants Bobby Jorgenson
to experience it. Because O Brien has accumulated familiarity with this irrational fear soldiers
experience, he feels like this is a punishment suitable in its notoriety for a new soldier like
Jorgenson, and would hopefully get back at the pain he had endured from the medic s failed aid to

The Current Product Development Process
Secondly, the current product development process needs a timely interaction among different
departments in order to detect problems in a relatively early period of the process; the traditional
approach would not meet this needs (Yelkur et al., 1996). Thus, the new product development team
is required to be made up of members from different background, such as engineering, marketing,
and management, so that they may work closely in introducing new products. As a result, the
democratic atmosphere of the work place is crucial for the process. Amabile (1998) and Amabile et
al. (1999) argue that freedom in processes promotes their motivation and helps employees make the
most of their expertise.

Three kinds of unique features contribute to the IDEO s philosophy of fail often to succeed sooner .
Firstly, the quick prototyping enables the project team to make mistakes to find the appropriate
solutions. In other words, it is similar to the method of trial and error, and follows the principles of
the three R s : Rough, Rapid and Right. This is supported by some experience of IDEO. During the
early stages of the design process, IDEO generate as many ideas as possible. Team members task is
to dump ideas, and they have no responsibilities to the unsuccessful ideas in this period. They
prepare to fail a lot so that the early prototypes are crude, which would not waste the precious time.
In addition, instant interaction among project team members and clients ensure that the products
are consumer centered and members in the project are actively participated. The playroom
atmosphere in IDEO ensures the instant communication between members to exchange latest
insights and ideas, which would enhance their understanding of the ongoing project, because

Essay about The Mexican Tlaltelolco Massacre
Around the time of the Massacre in Mexico, there were a number of books written based on the
brutal killings. Three popular books that were written by Mexican writers and addressed the
movement of Mexican students, during that era, were Massacre in Mexico (by Elena
Poniatowska), 68 (by Paco Ignacio Taibo II), and Palinuro of Mexico (by Fernando de Paso).
Their literature presented a disturbing look into a student movement, which culminated in
hundreds of student protestors being massacred on October 2, 1968, in the Plaza de las Tres
Culturas/Tlatelolco of Mexico City. This event led Pablo Ignacio Taibo II to write in the preface
of his book 68, There are no countries without fairy tales lurking in their shadows. His book is a...

in Mexico, in 1968.
1968 wound up being a tumultuous year, globally. Author Mark Kurlansky added confirmation,
when he gave his book, 1968, the subtitle, The year that rocked the world. In the beginning of
1968, Mexico was experiencing economic growth and preparing to host the summer Olympics, the
same year. At the same time, Mexico s President, Gustavo Diaz Ordaz feared what might become
of the Cuban and French radicals that were attempting to cause problems, throughout the world. To
make matters worse, there were students in France holding protests, during May of the same year.
The death of Ernesto Che Guevara, the year before, was causing a rise of Communist furor. The
Institutional Revolutionary Party, Ordaz s political party had a habit of locking up dissidents,
buying them off, or having them killed (Kurlansky 328).
In late July, the movement erupted, due to being in this type of environment. Four days prior to the
movement s eruption, there was a fight between a couple of local schools. Although anti riot units
and police were called in to stop the fight, the units started provoking the students. Eventually, the
students attempted to end the fight and run back to their schools. But, the units chased after them

Muscular Male Body
Everyone in the world thinks to be athletic and good looking you need to have a muscular body.
This is not the case as people come in all different shapes and sizes. This is the same thing as the
breast which Natalie Angier talks about in her essay The Story of the Breast. The breast like
muscles come in all different shapes and sizes. Nobody is made the same and women shouldn t
be judged about their breast size, while men shouldn t be judged on how muscular they are. The
other pieces that will be mentioned are The Female Nude: Surfaces of Desire by Richard Leppert
and Images of Gender by John Berger. These pieces will help me make the case that we should
judge humans if they don t have perfect breasts or a muscular body. People should be praised for

Berger says in his essay Nakedness was created in the mind of the beholder. (Berger 209) This is
still true today as males want to see females that have the perfect body. This entails that they
have perfect breasts, and a good body. Men these days are also judged because advertisements
show men that have six packs, huge biceps and calves. These advertisements don t do a good job
of representing what most people actually look like in the world. Males are judged heavily on
how muscular they are which wasn t the case not long go. It has caught on a little later than
women but men are now judged also. People don t realize that you just needs muscles that
function and make you be able to do whatever task you are trying to accomplish. The age we live
in today for males is all about how much you can lift. This should not be the case as pliability is
just as important as muscle mass. This age of advertising has created what people think should be
the ideal male and female figure. People don t realize that everyone doesn t have to look like
people in advertisements and instead should just be

La Sagrada Familia ( The Expiratory Church Of The Holy Family
In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni GaudГ began work on La Sagrada FamГlia (the Expiratory

Gothic Revival design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi s

the Gothic tradition nor Catalan Modernisme, La Sagrada Familia is known for its striking

obviously also thought it worthwhile because the building is still under meticulous construction to

not mind that the construction would last beyond his death because, when given the extent of his
efforts, La Sagrada Familia became a vessel through which Gaudi could finally build to fruition the
architectural conceptions he had been developing with previous projects. Throughout his career ,
Gaudi strove to imbue his architecture with a sense of life, and he was able to do this through
geometry. [1] Meticulous calculations allowed Gaudi to translate this inspiration into architectural
experiences. La Sagrada Familia was [Gaudi s opportunity to literally build an illustration of the

Egyptian Art Vs Byzantine Art
Throughout history, man has used several mediums to record the world they live in, whether it is
through writing or art. These mediums have also served not only as a way to represent the events
in history but also provide as a way to convey certain messages with hopes to teach, influence or
convince the viewers. Three periods in history, the Egyptian, the Roman, and the Byzantine, are
examples of cultures that used art as a mean to relate the earthly world with their religious beliefs.
With their art, the Egyptian aimed to paint the rulers as god kings, the Roman cultures represented
their gods and goddesses with humanlike actions, and lastly, the Byzantine period presented a
heavenly realm on earth.

For instance, in the Hagia Sophia Church created by Justinian during his reign, multiple windows
surround the base of the central dome, making the illusion that it is as if it was floating. The
windows appear as a golden chain from Heaven . With this innovative yet smoothly executed
iconography in the architecture of the church, worshipers were presented with a spiritual setting in
which they could bask in. Byzantine art established the churches as the second heaven.
However, the Byzantine not only created the image of heaven in their architectural structures, but
also in their mosaic paintings. The painting of Justinian, Bishop Maximianus, and attendants, is a
good example of how the Byzantine period set the scene against a golden background, a style
that has started in Late Antiquity to show that an event occurs in a heavenly place or a paradise
not bound by time or location. This gives the effect that the emperor is regarded as having the

The Pros And Cons Of The War On Terrorism
Fighting fire with fire, or in this case, fighting terrorism with terrorism. This, simply put, is what
many believe to be the solution to terrorism a War on Terror. NATO is well known for being one
of the largest and strongest organizations or military alliances in which participating states agree to
mutual defense in any event of an external attack. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of
the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of
terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of
this war became increasingly questionable. Although many may support this concept of a War on
Terror , it is simply, without question, economically damaging, misleading, and a hopeless attempt
to solve the issue of terrorism.
In 2011, expenses for the War on Terror were reported by the Pentagon to be about $1 trillion.
However, when experts carefully analyzed the data and expenses, they had discovered hidden
costs that were left unmentioned by the Pentagon, creating a new total of approximately $4.4
trillion. To put this into perspective, $4.4 trillion is over a fifth of the total U.S. tax revenue from
2001 2011 (about $21 trillion). If just $1 billion in education spending adds $1.3 billion to the
economy and creates 17,687 jobs, imagine the benefits from the thousands of billions of dollars
that are used to support the War on Terror. As a result, many jobs and economic

The greatest thing that college students can learn is the idea of success and what that can mean

The organizational structure and leadership styles are vital to the success of any company. The

determine the success of the company itself. It will also determine the type of interaction and
quality of work produced by the employees. Managementplays a vital role in determining if the

exercise considerable influence through formal and informal communication, role modeling, and
other powerful means (Nahavandi, Denhardt, Denhardt Arittiguteta, 2015). There are different
leadershipstyles to consider when placing a person in a position of leadership. Toxic leadership is

Construction of the Interstate Highway system began in the 1950 s. At this time the unemployment
rates in America were still high from the Great Depression, but automobiles were becoming more
popular and Americans started to move to the suburbs. The highways were built to make travel

highways by being able to travel quickly across the country in an emergency.
Roads before the Interstate Highway System were not safe and many accidents occured. Deaths

First Appearance In A Christmas Memory By Truman Capote
A First Appearance In the short story, A Christmas Memory, written by Truman Capote, imagery
and similes are often used by the author to convey the theme of human nature to judge people
based on first appearances. For instance, Buddy s friend is sixty something and with the author s
first description of her, a majority of people would immediately conceive her character as
someone who is stodgy. Moreover, in the beginning of the story, the author describes Buddy s
friend as, small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders
are pitifully hunched (1). At first glance of reading this quote, the use of imagery would cause
people to believe that Buddy s friend is similar to one s grandmother; a regular

Dr Naismith Basketball
Entering its 125th year, basketball is a sport that has taken the world by storm. A fast paced and
physical game, fans and players devote countless time, energy, and money to the beloved sport.
From pee wee to the NBA, basketball has become one of the world s most popular sports.
Ironically enough, the game of shot clocks and three point lines started with one man, a soccer
ball, and two peach baskets. In 1891, in the town of Springfield, Massachusetts, a Canadian
physical education instructor at the YMCA Training School was faced with a problem. Dr.
Naismith had a Massachusetts winter to face, and he did not have a satisfactory activity to keep his
students engaged while indoors. He wanted an activity that would be strenuous for his young...

The game was initially played with peach baskets with a small hole in the bottom for a rod to
poke the ball out, but they slowed the pace of the game as the ball would need to be removed
after a made shot. The first improvement to the peach basket came a year after basketball s
invention when the wire rim was introduced. It was not until 1906 that the metal rim and
backboard were made standard (Basketball Equipment). Also, basketball was first played with a
soccer ball. When the first ball was designed specifically to be a basketball it was brown, making
it hard for players and spectators to track. It was not until the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, Butler
coach and president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches from 1954 to 1955,
designed an easily visible orange ball (Basketball Equipment). As for size, the ball was first
invented, in 1894, to be thirty to thirty two inches in circumference, but today it has two general
sizes, 28.5 and 29 inches in circumference, the larger size for men s basketball and the smaller for

Manhattan Project Process
The Manhattan Project involved a long process of different steps to start the project and develop
the atomic bomb. After President Roosevelt in scientists took steps in 1939 to organize a project to
exploit the newly recognized fission process for military purposes ( Atomic ). One aspect of
development was the scientists at Oak Ridge [that] worked on uranium and others at Hanford on
plutonium(Schneider 197). The actual production of the weapons from the materials produced by
Hanford and Oak Ridge were at Los Alamos with the direction of Berkely physicist J. Robert
Oppenheimer (Bondi 493). Nuclear fuel for atomic weapons was opened for production after
Italian refugee physicist Enrico Fermi produced the first uncontrolled nuclear chain reaction
(Schneider 211). It is a self sustaining process of energy release from atomic fission. By the end of
the same year many scientists believed that the process of nuclear fissioncould be used... Show

The radiation emitted can still affect people today because the first explosion site is open to the
public for limited visits. People come to see the crater, but according to the public affairs office
at White Sands, a one hour visit to ground zero will result in a whole body exposure of one half
to one millirem. To put this in perspective, a U.S. adult receives 360 millirems on average every
year from natural and medical sources (Than). The atomic bombs lingering effects could re shape
the environment in ways never conceived. In terms of climate, a nuclear blast could plunge
temperatures across large swaths of the globe (Bryner). The loads of black smoke from the
explosions would settle into the upper atmosphere and absorb sunlight before it reaches our planet s
surface which changes the climate (Bryner). The Manhattan Project inadvertently contributed to the
causes of global warming and climate

Of Mice And Men Foreshadowing
The novella Of Mice and Men is a book by John Steinbeck on the lives of migrant farm workers
working during the Great Depression, Lennie, who is developmentally delayed and George. The
two have a dream of, what every farm worker has a dream of, land. A clearing is one of the
prevalent settings. When a bus drops them off 4 miles from their destination, the duo stays there a
night and Lennie is instructed, that if anything bad happens he should hide in the brush . Working
on the ranch the make an enemy, Curly ( who s hand is crushed by Lenni in the fight, and several
friends, Candy who offers to help them buy the land, and Slim who seems to always see all sides
of the issue. Later they attempt to make their dream come true but in the... Show more content on

It is not as hard to figure out as in Walk Two Moons. The story of Walk Two Moons is about a
girl going to her mother s grave and telling her grandparents about her life on the way there. Here
the foreshadowing is not evident until the end of the book, she mentions her mother as if she is
still alive and the author mentions her mother going to Idaho by bus, but not the crash, and that
the main character s father like Mrs. Cadaver, but she does not mention how main character s
mother sat in the seat next to Mrs. Cadaver, and that the father uses her as a connection to the
past. Of Mice and Men, on the other hand, uses foreshadowing in many instances. The many
remarks about what happened in Weed, how Lennie kills mice and dogs earlier in the book,
Curly constantly picking fights with Lennie, and George telling him to hide in the brush many
times, and Lennie saying the ranch is a bad place shows how he could possibly kill something
more intelligent, a human, and that how he will most likely have to hide in the brush eventually,
if you follow Georges thinking. These instances should make it clear that Lennie will eventually
mess up again and have to hide in the brush. The reactions of Curly to Lennie killing his wife is
also foreseeable, Curly dislikes Lennie and most probably uses this as an excuse to get rid of him,
even though is probably angry too. Using these scenarios, if the reader pays attention to

Electric Potential Lab
Name:
Institution:
Course:
Instructor:
Date: Electric Field and Electric Potential
Abstract
The purpose of this lab exercise was to map out electric potential (v) around electrodes in a water
bath. This was done by measuring the voltage drop between one fixed location and a large number
of various locations in the water. Afterwards, the associated field was calculated. The electric field
strength E, was calculated from a map of the electric potentials by taking the potential difference
between two closely spaced points on either side of the point of interest and dividing it by the
distance between two closely spaced points.
Experimental Procedure: This experiment was accomplished in two parts. In part ... Show more

From the data recorded, the equipotential lines did not cross each other since each of the
equipotential line was assigned a specific value of electric field. From this experiment, it is evident
that the RMS voltage inside the ring decreased with an increase in distance of separation. This
suggests that, the electric field inside the ring was not the same in all points. It was also noted from
the graphs that the proportionality that existed between the electric field, E, and 1/r was consistent
with the linear dependence of electric potential with ln (r) since both of them increased with an
increase in electric field. In addition, both were characterized by a positive gradient. Similarly,
the electric field lines drawn were perpendicular to the equipotential lines, the reason being that
the electric potential is equivalent to the electric field multiplied by the distance. The two point
probe was used to measure the electric field in this lab since it is capable of measuring low
frequency electric fields. As a result, the measurements were considered accurate. The difference in
the calculated value of the charge per unit length О», for both the graphs of 1n(r) versus voltage
and the graph of 1/r versus the electric field, was small (insignificant), i.e. 0.04592 and 0.03287
respectively. Further, the percentage

Conditioned Emotional Response
A conditioned emotional response is seen in classical conditioning after a conditioned stimulus has
been paired with an emotion producing unconditioned stimulus. In other words it is an emotional
response that has been classically conditioned to occur to learned stimuli. Watson and Rayner
created this for the first time with little Albert when he was about eight months and twenty six days.
They struck a hammer against a suspended steel bar and at the third time was when little Albert
reacted and began to cry. The next time they tested a conditioned emotional response was when
little Albert was at the age of eleven months. They created this conditioned emotional response by
starting off the experiment with a white rat. At the beginning little

  • 2. Attempted Murder and Criminal Acts In this essay, I will describe the elements of a criminal act, address the law of factual impossibility, the law of legal impossibility, and distinguish whether the alleged crime in the scenario is a complete but imperfect attempt or an incomplete attempt. I will address the ethical or moralistic concerns associated with allowing a criminal defendant to avoid criminal responsibility by successfully asserting a legal defense such as impossibility. The court was clearly wrong to dismiss the charge against Jack of attempted murderof Bert. A crime consists of an actus reus and a mens rea, in order to obtain a conviction of a criminal charge there must be a concurrence between the actus reus and mens rea. The elements of a criminal act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Transferred intent is when an individual has the intent to cause harm to one person but injures another one instead (Lippman, 2012). In order to meet the requirements of transferred intent, two questions must be asked and both questions must have a yes to apply transferred intent. The first question: If contact had been made with the intended object (Bert), would there have been a crime (National Paralegal College, 2014)? The answer is yes, there is a crime against pointing and firing a gun at a human being and first degree murder. The second question: If the object with which contact was made (Pratt) had been the intended target, would there have been a crime (National Paralegal College, 2014)? The answer here is yes (first degree murder). Under the legal doctrine of transferred intent, Jack is still liable for the intentional crime he intended to commit against Bert, although, Jack mistakenly committed a crime against Pratt. The defenses to attempt are: factual impossibility and legal impossibility. Jack s attorney is attempting to assert factual impossibility to have the charges of the attempted murder of Bert dismissed due to an extraneous factor (gun malfunction), which is unethical. Factual impossibility is when a person does everything in their power to complete the target crime, but fails ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did Nationalism Cause Ww1 Nationalism occurs when a race of group of people create an indentity in which they have a love and a loyalty for. This group will have a common factor of race, language, culture or religion. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the Austrian Archduke during the time of 1914, sparked off an already existing conflict between Austria and Serbia. The force of Nationalism influenced this conflict between Serbia and Austria due to the nationalistic views of the Serbian people. The conflict that occurred on the 28th June 1914 was the assassination of the Austrian Archduke, Franz Ferdinand. While he and his wife were visiting Bosnia, they were both shot dead by Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip, On this day nationalism was running high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Schlieffen Plan was designed to give Germany dominance. The plan was for German armies to travel through Belgium to France, and defeat France. Then further moving on to Russia to defeat them before they had fully mobilised. Unfortunately, Germany could not reach Russia in time, as RUssia started to mobilise too quickly. Although the assassination occurred at the beginning of World War One, it was only an event which sparked off from other conflicts influenced by Nationalism. These conflicts included the First Moroccan Crisis 1906, the Agadir Incident 1911 12 and the naval arms race between Britain and Germany. The conflicts between Serbia and Austria, and previous other conflicts which led up to World War One were predominantly caused by the force of Nationalism. Serbian nationalistic values impacted the way of life for Serbian people. An example of this is Gavrilo Princip. Nationalism influeced him to join the Black Hand and consequently assassinate the Archduke of Austria. His love and loyalty for Serbia caused him to murder for the greater good of his country. The Serbian extreme nationalistic views were produced mainly because of the different rules over the Slav empirres. The people of these states felt that they had to be true to their state and not the empire they belonged in. This caused much unrest between these states. Nationalism changed the lives of people in Europe greatly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The essay will also look into the key theorists involved in language development, primarily Vygotsky and Chomsky, and how these theories have had an impact on the way society views language and their implementation within schools. Kehliy (2009) suggests children have four basics needs; the need for love and security, new experiences, praise and recognition and responsibility. Children have the potential to develop to their full capacity with these needs met. Maslov in his hierarchy of needs highlighted that children need their basic needs met before they can develop onto the next stage. He proposed five key levels; physiology, safety, belongingness, esteem and self actualisation. Each level needs to be fulfilled to process to the next. With this in mind Maslov s theory suggests that children and adults cannot reach their full potential unless there needs are met. This theory is strongly represented within the social services sector and within the care sector (Green, 2009). Smidt (2006) highlighted that the way in which childhood is perceived changes overtime; adults construct an image of what childhood should be. The images of childhood and the way children are perceived are influenced by economics, politics, religion and class. This is evident within theorists differing views of children and their theories and helps us to understand why these differ. Smidt (2006) suggested all areas of development are strongly interrelated thus a delay in language development, for example, can hinder the child s social or emotional development. For children to understand emotions they need to discuss their feelings, so require the social interaction and language to discuss this. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Golden Age Of Piracy Essay Imagine sailing the seven seas looking for ships to plunder and cities to barricade. This was the life of many sailors back during the Golden Age of piracy. Although many sailors lived their life as pirates, some were actually privateers and were mistaken for pirates. Privateers were like pirates, but instead of raiding for personal gain they did it for the sake of their country. They did not perform gruesome executions and did not always stay at sea like other pirates. Pirates on the other hand were usually ex privateers that realized there was more money in pirating. The pirate s code decided what happened to traitors and thieves along with what happened to men that brought women aboard the ship. The pirate s code although universal differed from crew to crew. Before a pirate ship left port all pirates collaborated and signed a document called the articles of agreement, also known as the pirates code (Johnson). This ensured anything that happened at sea would be followed by the code. Whether the culprit be the captain or a lowly deck cleaner, the code made sure peace was kept upon the ship. Piracy always had to have laws since most people on the ship were criminals. In the end, pirates served a critical role in the development of America. Without them Britain might have won the war of 1812 and taken over in America. It spotlights the dizzying creativity a human brain is capable of when paired with a massive axe to grind. Unfortunately, for prose jammed with so many accusations, Gall s piece is surprisingly light on substantive sources. Oh, but she makes up for this foible by heaping dollops of self righteous Americentrism. No surprises here. Gall, after all, penned The Wrong Enemy: America in Afghanistan 2001 2014, a tome that must surely feature as essential reading for Pakistanophobes. In her book, Gall posits that Washington s Afghan war strategy was flawed from the get go. After felling the Taliban , US forces should have kept marching east instead of invading Iraq. Why? Because without Pakistan s patronage, neither they nor Al Qaeda could ever have bloomed in the region. Okay, so I will not harp on about the Union Oil Company of California s (UNOCAL) Taliban connection, immortalized incidentally in an article titled Oil Barons court Taliban in Texas from British daily the Telegraph s 1997 archives. Moreover, youth without a church is youth without a future. this is a quote from the former pope of Alexandria, Pope Shenouda III. Pope Shenouda passed away about four years ago and his episcopate lasted for over 40 years. The Coptic church has commonly been referred to by historians as the Church of the Martyrs (A Brief History of the Christian Church). It was given this name due to the desire of martyrdom rather than the multitude of martyrs. The five main points of its history are the origins of Coptic Orthodox Christianity, monasticism, contributions to Christendom, the ecumenical councils and the church today. It is believed that the Coptic church of Egypt was the first church ever created; it was founded by Saint Mark in approximately 42 AD. (Osman) Saint Mark is also considered to be the first bishop and pope of Alexandria. However, it wasn t until the late second century when Christianity was truly established in Egypt. During the second century the roman emperors had begun to persecute the Coptic Orthodox Christians formerly known as Copts; yet as previously stated these Copts would not hide, instead they would openly worship unafraid of death, because it is said that martyrdom isn t the end of a life, it is believed to be an entry to a new life. In 2015, roughly 2.3 million tonnes of garbage were thrown away in British Columbia alone, an average of 497 kilograms per capita. Imagine Canada s waste combined about 25 million tonnes. Often, household garbage ends up in landfills, but landfills are piling up and reaching maximum capacity. Unfortunately, it is becoming a struggle to find new areas to dispose of the tonnes of waste. Additionally, the problem of over capacitated landfills contributes to the environment s health and as a consequence, make approximately 25% of Canada s greenhouse gas emissions. Improperly discarding items, like batteries, electronics, and so forth, also contributes to the environment s health, creating the risk of water and soil contamination. It is up to Canadians and the decisions they make when it comes to recyclingand protecting the environment. Most household items, such as TV remotes, cell phones, wireless video game controllers, and more, require batteries to operate. Ultimately, single use or rechargeable batteries run out of juice or corrode, and become no longer usable. Nonetheless, Canadians are guilty disposing of batteries improperly, whether in the garbage bin or the blue bin, that later enter landfills. • 13. A Comparison Between Homer s The Odyssey And The Holy Bible Is There a Correlation? Homer s The Odyssey and The Holy Bible, are writings from the ancient civilizations! The proximity regarding similar narratives between the two publications has produced curiosity in inquiring minds. Interchangeable associations of both texts have prompted an investigation to explain why this literary phenomenon has occurred. In ancient Greece, Greek mythology began to emerge. Mythical narratives began to erupt for the purpose of giving an explanation to certain social, religious, and environmental phenomena. Greek chronicles included the gods/goddesses, heroes, and non human creatures. Unlike Mythology, narratives of the Bible are actual events that took place dating back to the beginning of time. The conception of The Holy Bible s compilation started thousands of years ago in the land of Egypt. Initially, the Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew language, however, they were later translated to the Greek. At the onset of the New Testament writings, they were originally recorded in the Greek language. Forty men transcribed the voice of God, which resulted in sixty six books of the Holy Bible. The Holy Scriptures explained the creations, formation of the world, God, God s chosen people, sin, and the plan of salvation as well. Both books involve the Trojan War and journeys across roaring seas. During each book, the men enter the afterlife with a guide to help them through Hell, and each author gives their own thoughts depicting how it might appear. The large beasts at the front gates are similar in both Homer s and Virgil s idea of what the front gate could be like. Dante has Virgil to guide him, Odysseus did not really have a guide but Aeneas had the Sibyl. Dante, like Aeneas and Odysseus, performed rituals before he entered Hell. When Dante enters hell he is very scared knowing that very few people who are alive that ever enter Hell and also come back. In all three stories the living are not welcomed into Hell. Aeneas had the golden stick, Odysseus had permission, and Dante was allowed because Virgil acquainted him, who was helped from above. During this process oxygen is diffused into the cells and carbon dioxide is also diffused from the cells into the blood. In pulmonary circulation, deoxygenated blood is carried from the heart to the lungs and oxygenated blood from the lungs is returned to the heart.3 The 4 chambered heart of a human has the advantage over simpler structures because it allows us to send our deoxygenated blood to the lungs and our oxygenated blood to the rest of the body without having to mix the two. 4 Because of a human s size and complexity, we need a more efficient circulation system and that is why a 4 chambered heart works best for us, while a 3 chambered heart works best for frogs because they are much smaller and more simple than humans. Frogs and humans breathe for the same reason: to take in oxygen and pass carbon dioxide. I feel that in this course I learned more about people in history than I have ever learned before. These people I am discussing have made tremendous impacts on the world and have allowed so much growth in western civilization. The topics I have picked to discuss are the most important to me because they symbolize, in my mind, eras, and the great changes of the world, mainly through mindset and belief. These five topics show how people are needed to make changes, and to make history, and how the ideas that are brought before these times have lasted the years. The first major thing that I learned was about Homer; who he was and how his writings helped shape the Greek spirit and Greek religion (Perry, Chase and Jacob). I feel that Homer, and his works, such as Iliad and The Odyssey , were very important because they allowed a transformation in the views of an individual. Homer placed the individual as another force of life that has the power to change events and determine their own lives, not just the gods, in his works. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and both a great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic Hero but are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to accomplish are completely different. Beowulfhas strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero . He Saves the day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple examples of his strength is how he ripped off grendel s arm when he tried to run away. No normal person would be able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he slew grendel s motheras everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of an epic hero. He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very good leader and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the people. Beowulf is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all the time and there are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different than the way people are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more barbaric, like when Beowulf ripped off grendel s arm and they hung it up on front of the door for everyone to see. Then when ... • 24. Persuasive Essay Homelessness As someone who lived on $8,000 for 2 years, Veronica Harnish says, Blaming personal failures for their circumstances merely provides an excuse for not responding to the real causes of homelessness. The issue at hand is that there is as many as 3.5 million homeless people in America as of 2017. A quarter of these people are children and we need to find a way to help this generation and the next from not having a safe place to sleep, or a job to make money, or even just a place to have fun without any worries. By developing shelters, giving young children a place to feel safe and have fun, or helping the homeless find jobs that they couldn t get before, we can help our generation and future generations fix homelessness. All of these solutions are ways that we can help the homeless. The first and foremost solution deals with jobs and finding a source of income. Many people don t have a chance to get an income, or they just had a bad experience that left them dry. This should not make them homeless. These are reasons why it is important to help homeless people find jobs. One example is a program sponsored by the US Department of Labor, called HVRP(Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program). It helps war veterans who come home from war get education, training and even counseling services to help find a job. So far, this program has helped over 8,000 members veterans find jobs. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of this war became increasingly questionable. However, when experts carefully analyzed the data and expenses, they had discovered hidden costs that were left unmentioned by the Pentagon, creating a new total of approximately $4.4 trillion. To put this into perspective, $4.4 trillion is over a fifth of the total U.S. tax revenue from 2001 2011 (about $21 trillion). • 43. First Appearance In A Christmas Memory By Truman Capote A First Appearance In the short story, A Christmas Memory, written by Truman Capote, imagery and similes are often used by the author to convey the theme of human nature to judge people based on first appearances. For instance, Buddy s friend is sixty something and with the author s first description of her, a majority of people would immediately conceive her character as someone who is stodgy. Moreover, in the beginning of the story, the author describes Buddy s friend as, small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (1). At first glance of reading this quote, the use of imagery would cause people to believe that Buddy s friend is similar to one s grandmother; a regular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A fast paced and physical game, fans and players devote countless time, energy, and money to the beloved sport. From pee wee to the NBA, basketball has become one of the world s most popular sports. Ironically enough, the game of shot clocks and three point lines started with one man, a soccer ball, and two peach baskets. In 1891, in the town of Springfield, Massachusetts, a Canadian physical education instructor at the YMCA Training School was faced with a problem. Dr. Naismith had a Massachusetts winter to face, and he did not have a satisfactory activity to keep his students engaged while indoors. He wanted an activity that would be strenuous for his young... The game was initially played with peach baskets with a small hole in the bottom for a rod to poke the ball out, but they slowed the pace of the game as the ball would need to be removed after a made shot. The first improvement to the peach basket came a year after basketball s invention when the wire rim was introduced. It was not until 1906 that the metal rim and backboard were made standard (Basketball Equipment). Also, basketball was first played with a soccer ball. When the first ball was designed specifically to be a basketball it was brown, making it hard for players and spectators to track. It was not until the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, Butler coach and president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches from 1954 to 1955, designed an easily visible orange ball (Basketball Equipment). As for size, the ball was first invented, in 1894, to be thirty to thirty two inches in circumference, but today it has two general sizes, 28.5 and 29 inches in circumference, the larger size for men s basketball and the smaller for ... • 46. Manhattan Project Process The Manhattan Project involved a long process of different steps to start the project and develop the atomic bomb. After President Roosevelt in scientists took steps in 1939 to organize a project to exploit the newly recognized fission process for military purposes ( Atomic ). One aspect of development was the scientists at Oak Ridge [that] worked on uranium and others at Hanford on plutonium(Schneider 197). The actual production of the weapons from the materials produced by Hanford and Oak Ridge were at Los Alamos with the direction of Berkely physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Bondi 493). Nuclear fuel for atomic weapons was opened for production after Italian refugee physicist Enrico Fermi produced the first uncontrolled nuclear chain reaction (Schneider 211). It is a self sustaining process of energy release from atomic fission. By the end of the same year many scientists believed that the process of nuclear fissioncould be used... People come to see the crater, but according to the public affairs office at White Sands, a one hour visit to ground zero will result in a whole body exposure of one half to one millirem. To put this in perspective, a U.S. adult receives 360 millirems on average every year from natural and medical sources (Than). The atomic bombs lingering effects could re shape the environment in ways never conceived. In terms of climate, a nuclear blast could plunge temperatures across large swaths of the globe (Bryner). The loads of black smoke from the explosions would settle into the upper atmosphere and absorb sunlight before it reaches our planet s surface which changes the climate (Bryner). The two have a dream of, what every farm worker has a dream of, land. A clearing is one of the prevalent settings. When a bus drops them off 4 miles from their destination, the duo stays there a night and Lennie is instructed, that if anything bad happens he should hide in the brush . Working on the ranch the make an enemy, Curly ( who s hand is crushed by Lenni in the fight, and several friends, Candy who offers to help them buy the land, and Slim who seems to always see all sides of the issue. The story of Walk Two Moons is about a girl going to her mother s grave and telling her grandparents about her life on the way there. Here the foreshadowing is not evident until the end of the book, she mentions her mother as if she is still alive and the author mentions her mother going to Idaho by bus, but not the crash, and that the main character s father like Mrs. Cadaver, but she does not mention how main character s mother sat in the seat next to Mrs. Cadaver, and that the father uses her as a connection to the past. Of Mice and Men, on the other hand, uses foreshadowing in many instances. The many remarks about what happened in Weed, how Lennie kills mice and dogs earlier in the book, Curly constantly picking fights with Lennie, and George telling him to hide in the brush many times, and Lennie saying the ranch is a bad place shows how he could possibly kill something more intelligent, a human, and that how he will most likely have to hide in the brush eventually, if you follow Georges thinking. These instances should make it clear that Lennie will eventually mess up again and have to hide in the brush. The reactions of Curly to Lennie killing his wife is also foreseeable, Curly dislikes Lennie and most probably uses this as an excuse to get rid of him, even though is probably angry too. • 49. Electric Potential Lab Name: Institution: Course: Instructor: Date: Electric Field and Electric Potential Abstract The purpose of this lab exercise was to map out electric potential (v) around electrodes in a water bath. This was done by measuring the voltage drop between one fixed location and a large number of various locations in the water. Afterwards, the associated field was calculated. The electric field strength E, was calculated from a map of the electric potentials by taking the potential difference between two closely spaced points on either side of the point of interest and dividing it by the distance between two closely spaced points. Experimental Procedure: This experiment was accomplished in two parts. In part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the data recorded, the equipotential lines did not cross each other since each of the equipotential line was assigned a specific value of electric field. From this experiment, it is evident that the RMS voltage inside the ring decreased with an increase in distance of separation. This suggests that, the electric field inside the ring was not the same in all points. It was also noted from the graphs that the proportionality that existed between the electric field, E, and 1/r was consistent with the linear dependence of electric potential with ln (r) since both of them increased with an increase in electric field. In addition, both were characterized by a positive gradient. Similarly, the electric field lines drawn were perpendicular to the equipotential lines, the reason being that the electric potential is equivalent to the electric field multiplied by the distance. The two point probe was used to measure the electric field in this lab since it is capable of measuring low frequency electric fields. As a result, the measurements were considered accurate. The difference in the calculated value of the charge per unit length О», for both the graphs of 1n(r) versus voltage and the graph of 1/r versus the electric field, was small (insignificant), i.e. 0.04592 and 0.03287 respectively. Conditioned Emotional Response A conditioned emotional response is seen in classical conditioning after a conditioned stimulus has been paired with an emotion producing unconditioned stimulus. In other words it is an emotional response that has been classically conditioned to occur to learned stimuli. Watson and Rayner created this for the first time with little Albert when he was about eight months and twenty six days. They struck a hammer against a suspended steel bar and at the third time was when little Albert reacted and began to cry. The next time they tested a conditioned emotional response was when little Albert was at the age of eleven months. They created this conditioned emotional response by starting off the experiment with a white rat. At the beginning little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
