Organisational culture and national culture The importance of culture
learning outcomes
As organisations seek to compete in ever changing environments, they need to adapt and develop to
take advantage of new opportunities. To do this effectively means more than knowing which levers
to pull or which structural form to take. It also requires a deep understanding of what makes the
organisation work its culture. But what choices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Larger organisations tend to have more formalised structures and cultures. Increased size is likely to
result in separate departments and possibly split site operations. This may cause difficulties in
communication with the need for effective co ordination; otherwise, inter departmental rivalries
may develop.A rapid expansion, or decline, in size and rate of growth, and consequent changes in
staffing will influence both structure and culture. There is considerable evidence that size
significantly affects structure and culture. Organisations of 2,000 or more employees tend to
exhibit more departmentalism, specialisation and have more rules. By that stage, they are fairly

Sicily is too far away and too numerous to be ruled even if conquered . Nicias recognized the
complex nature of the expedition. In order to succeed, the expedition had to assemble a huge
armada and army that required support from the entire Athenian empire (food, money, forces,
etc). The logistical difficulties to support the expedition alone may be enough to cause it to fail.
Additionally, the far distance between Athens and Sicily would complicate their ability to
provide reinforcement. One of Nicias s main objections to the Sicily Expedition was its
Ambiguity. The decision to invade Sicily fundamentally violated their grand strategy for war with
Sparta. The supporters for the expedition had presented no clearly defined objective, or displayed
just intent for the expedition, this he feared would lead to mission creep. The pretenses of the
expedition were to assist an ally that grew to an offensive operation against Syracuse. In reality, it
was a scheme by avarice individuals who saw an opportunity to expand the empire, while enriching
themselves. The conquest of Sicily posed no vital interest to Athens. The Egestaenas seek help,
from their alliance with Athens, for their war against Selinus; they warned of potential Syracusan
domination of Sicily and aid to Sparta. Nicias argued that Syracuse, as is, posed no threat to the
Athenians interest, and even if it took over

Rules When Dating Research
Bullying is not nice. It s like tantalizing someone for no reason. It makes you feel like you just

never ask anyone out over text. I know it s a rule that I can t do it in my house. When I have
kids I will also have many rules on dating. My first rule when dating is that my son or daughter
can t go on dates if it begins to affect there school work. If any of there grades drop below a c,
they are not allowed to go on any dates. Once they get there grade back up they can continue to go
out. In my opinion school comes before social life. The final part of this rule is on nights they have

On weekend they can stay out until one A.M. , but I need to know where they are and they need
to wake me up when they are home. If they are not back in time they will need to compensate for
that. I will be completely unflinching in this, because they need to learn there lesson. Finally I
will give them a terse scolding to make sure my point is clear. If this happens twice they will
have there phone taken away for a week. For every time after this it will be take away for a month.
Which is a teenagers worst nightmare. My final and most important rule is that they can t date until
they are in high school. I will feed my children only fodder until they split up, then they can eat
human food again. I do this because I feel in middle school you are just not mature enough to
date. Once you get to high school I feel the kids are mature enough to have a significant other if
they so choose. They also need to tell me when they get a better half. If I find out there dating

The Pros And Cons Of Open Adoption
In recent years, the proportion of women who are employed has risen, the fertility concept has
changed and the rate of infertility has risen slightly, resulting in an increase of the number of
people prefer adopting children (Berry 1993). Open adoption is an adoption that involves contact
between biological and adoptive parents and sometimes between biological parents and the adopted
child ( Open Adoption1973). There are close adoption and open adoption. Thus, whether to adopt
children openly is becoming an controversial issue. There is an argument that the adoption should
be open. This essay is divided into three main points to explain this argument. There are the three
main points: Open adoption could be conducive to the mental health of adopted children. Open
adoption may be beneficial for the foster parents and make them get along better with the adopted
children. Open adoption might help improve the communication between the children s biological
parents and children and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, let us start with the first aspect. Open adoption may be generally good for children. In the
first place, open adoption could be conducive to the mental health of adopted children and may
be especially conducive to their acceptance and understanding of adoptive relationships. Open
adoption may make children have more sense of security and the feelings of abandonment are
correspondingly reduced. The openness of adoption could make the adopted child have less risk
of mental illness (Agnich 2016). The adopted children perhaps want to know something about
their biological parents. In a closed adoptive relationship, a child s mentality is probably changed
and they are likely to have an prejudice of for the adoption. In open adoption cases, children could
get a relation to their biological parents so perhaps open adoption will make it easier for children
to accept adoption. According to Agnich s study (2016), open adoption could make that they are

Anthony Storr s A Very Short Introduction Essay
Anthony Storrs A Very Short Introduction is a book written about none other than Sigmund Freud.
Born into the Jewish religion of which he had no interest in taking part of, Freud was an
exceptional man who was very advanced, aware of his surroundings and stubborn.
This man was a psychologist, doctor of medical and the Albert Einstein of psychoanalysis if I
should say. Freud had a lot of theory s which everyone along with myself didn t quite agree with
them all.
Born on the 6th day of may in 1856, a man by the name of Sigmund Freud was not only smart;
unique in his ways as a boy. He wouldn t even sit at the dinner table with his family for supper, that
had to be done separately from them because during eating times, he ... Show more content on

During the years of 1885 1886 Freud s train of thought changed; he realized that in order for him
to understand hysteria, he would have to study psychology and not neurology. He believed that
the main characteristic of the neurotic person was a lack of normal sex, that s ironic for him to
say because not one time threw out this book did I hear him speak on his own sex life, which
would lead me to think he didn t have children if he hadn t spoken of them.
Freud beliefs of young men between the age of four five in the phallic stage being sexually
interested in their mother and aggression towards the father is by far bizarre and disturbing to me.
It seems that everything that had to do with neurology in somewhat way lead back to some form
of sex or sexuality. In 1892 Freud stopped doing hypnotist practices and changed to free association
in order to increase his understanding of neurosis theory.
This man believed every symbol in ones dream had to do with something of sex, umbrellas were the
symbols of the penis, purse s were the symbols of the vagina. Truly don t understand how he came
to that consumption but never the less he was unique in his own way of thought. In one instance
Freud became upset when he realized that his patents were emotionally attached to him during their
sessions, his first though was that it was an erotic attachment. Even though Freud

The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
Ernest J. Gaines book, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, used many historical events to

When slavery was abolished conditions for black people got worse. Many slaves where beat and
treated cruelly during slavery but because they where property and useful they were spared their
lives. When slavery was abolished many black people were killed because they where no longer

In the story Jane talked about how many former slaves as well as herself do not cry much
anymore because they have seen so much death and tragedy that it has become a normal thing.
Nate, a small boy Jane had to take care of in the story, knew not to make any noise while in the
bushes hiding from the patrollers because even at a young age he knew death was not far away
and did not cry when his family was killed. Many white people killed black people throughout the
story and did not get punished for it.
Jane and Ned, stops traveling to Ohio and finds work on a plantation. The difference for Jane
now, as for many black people, they could get paid for their labor. By the late 1870s, most former
slaves in the rural South had been drawn into a subservient position in a new labor system called
sharecropping (Abbott et al. 441). When Jane gets older she becomes involved in a relationship
with a man that takes their family off the plantation to become a sharecropper.
The premise of this system was relatively simple: The landlord furnished the sharecroppers with a
house, a plot of land to work, seed, some farm animals, and farm

Military Turning Points During The Civil War
There were many military and political turning points during the Civil War. In 1863 and 1864,
the outcome of the war was uncertain to many on either side of the playing field. In April of
1863, a new Union commander in the East, Fighting Joe Hooker, invaded central Virginia.
Outnumbered two to one, Lee fought off Hooker at Chancellorsville. His most outstanding
commander, Stonewall Jackson, was mortally wounded in combat. Soon after, Lee decides to
make another invasion of the North. For the first three days of July, his army battled Union forces
under General George G. Meade at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Gettysburg was the largest battle to
ever occur in North America. Over 165,000 troops battled there. On July 3rd, Major General George

My Proposal to Revitalize the Block of Abandoned Houses at...
My proposal to revitalize the block of abandoned houses at 8 20 Oakmount Road, 1834 1844
Bloor Street West, and 3 17 Pacific Avenue, is to create an eco space that has the feel of a space
that is eco friendly and where people can come buy fresh produce, learn about eco friendliness,
admire the plants at the green houseand eco dome, or sit next to the fountain and admire the beauty.
This space could do so much for the community, instead of having a block of houses that benefit
no one. Here is a little history of the area of the houses. I was unable to find physical proof or
any source to back this statement up but, according to Mrs. Zubkewych, her 102 year old
neighbor that passed away some years ago named Ms. Grace Irwin was a historian for the Bloor
West Village. Ms. Irwin wrote a book about the Bloor West Village that can be found in the
archives section of the Annette Public Library. According to Mrs. Zubkewych Ms. Irwin told her
that the block of houses at 8 20 Oakmount road, 1834 1844 Bloor street west, 3 17 Pacific avenue
were built over 100 years ago, she said before they were houses the whole block used to be
owned be a doctor who made it into farm land. So therefore we know the soil is non toxic. The
reason the houses were recently torn down is because the owner was trying to get the permits to
build but was unable to so he sold the land to a development company. This ties into science
because we now know that the soil is not toxic or acidic (since plants can t

The World Wide Web History Essay
Task 1
Web history
The advent of the Internet started when the U.S. Government s Department of Defense
collaborated with some U.S. universities creating the Advanced Research Projects Agency
(ARPA). This was driven by the cold war between the West and the Soviet Union at the time where
fear of traditional communications breakdown may occur and phones stop working prompting the
need for a backup plan. Mainframe to mainframe (No PCs were made yet) direct communication
or in other words, a networking system that does not get affected, was created where everyone
accesses data from anywhere . The new name for that is the ARPANET.
ARPANET started to expand with more universities and military establishments in the US joining
the network, which became officially an Internet when the University College in London and the
Radar Establishment of Norway became members in 1973. The World Wide Web(WWW) was used
exclusively between research establishments and military establishments until the year 1991 when
the internet was made public and available for everyone.
Web Development and techniques and web stadards
The WWW went through several stages of evolution and still is from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0 with
Web 4.0 being developed currently. The W3C consortium was established in October 1994 and
headed by Tim Berners Lee (the inventor of the WWW in 1989 who wrote the first browser and
created the first server) and still is with Al Vezza, and had the responsibility to set the standards

Using The Cloud For Large Scale Data Storage
Abstract: In cloud computing and services with the rapid developments, there has been a growing
trend to use the cloud for large scale data storage. This has raised the important security issue of
how to control and prevent unauthorized access to data stored in the cloud. Access control is one of
the most important security mechanisms in cloud computing. By using the Role Based Access
Controland Attribute Based Access Control, security to the data stored in cloud is enhanced
through the fine grained access control policies. Attribute Based and Role Based Encryption
techniques are used as the main encryption primitive. Signature Based authentication is used to

The cloud aims to cut costs, and help the users focus on their core business instead of being
impeded by IT obstacles Cloud computing is so named because the information being accessed
is found in the clouds , and does not require a user to be in a specific place to gain access to it.
The services are offered from data centres all over the world, which collectively are referred to as
the cloud. The idea of the cloud is to simplify the huge network connections and computer systems
involved in online services. Cloud computing is a computing model, not a technology. In this
model of computing, all the servers, networks, applications and other elements related to data
centres are made available to IT and end users. Cloud computing is a type of computing that is
comparable to grid computing. It relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local
servers or personal devices to handle applications.
Access control is generally a policy or a procedure that allows, denies or restricts access to a
system. It also monitors and records all attempts made to access a system. Access Control may also
identify users attempting to make an unauthorized access to a system. It is a mechanism which is
very much important for providing security. Various access control models are in use, including the
most common Mandatory Access Control (MAC), Discretionary Access Control (DAC) and Role
Based Access Control (RBAC). All these models are known as identity

History of American Art Education Essay
Western culture had many important effects on the United States as a developing nation, and art
education was no exception to this. In order to come to terms with the impact of Western culture on
American art education, it is important to chronicle the progression of art education throughout
Europe. Spanning centuries, the political, social, and economic development of European nations,
each played an important role the philosophies of art education, which in the long run, affected
American ideas concerning the subject. Thoughts about art changed and evolved in many ways

The role that art did play involved one that catered towards the state. Art was used as political
propaganda in that it was thought that art should serve the state, and emphasize the power of the
state. These events indirectly shaped beliefs about art in the United States, as it was a new nation
that was raised on strong European influences. Throughout the history of art education, there is a
common thread of political relation. The attitudes concerning art related directly to the political
and economic happenings at the time. This remained a constant with early American settlers as
well. For example, Puritans lives revolved around faith and farming, therefore visual art played a
role that was not necessary integral. The arts involved a broad term that included crafts that were
taught at home. The main goal of education was to teach students to read so that they could read
scriptures. Art education today has veered quite a bit from this mentality. Art is still considered a
specialized area, but even more so than in times prior to the Industrial Revolution. Where during
this time period certain crafts that were part of daily living were routinely taught to young
children at home, contemporary society has moved away from this. Very rarely is a student taught
an art or a craft in the home, and because society s amenities and values have changed so
drastically, few individuals or families

the Pharaoh s master of storehouses. It was no room at all. It was a passage like this disguised
so that the workmen could hack it out without knowing... . Although he did not find the goblet,
he found yet another clue. One day, the day when Gebu and Wenamon go to rob a tomb,
Ranofer follows them. Wenamon is very nervous, he almost is scared, unlike his evil partener
Gebu. Wenamon said, ... you may regret this day impatient one! It was Wenamons murmuring
voice, that was certain. Gebu lashed back at once, Fool, who would follow us? Even the guards
are feasting in Thebes. . Ranofer realizes that Gebu was planning to rob something, bigger than a

important event is when Ranofer finds the Golden Goblet. All these events lead to one another in
a river of new mysteries and new finds. Eventually, poor Ranofers problems are solved. He tells
the Queen and they amazingly believe him. He is rewarded greatly and the goblet is found.

As I was saying that there were not many technological advancements in regrowth. One I did
find was by the National Science Foundation who has conducted a research program as they
have come up with an equation for leaf mass per area which will help understand what drives
plants behaviours based on cells. This will help understand leaf cells more and see if we can take
that research to help advance plant regrowth. One representative from the foundation said We are
aiming to usher in a new era in the science of leaf economics by merging plant anatomy with
mathematics and ecology in a unique way, This would help speed up regrowth after natural

Conflicts
Conflict means a struggle or problem between two opposing groups or individuals. There are two
types of conflict: internal and external conflict. An internal conflict is a struggle that is
internalized and deals with choices, consequences, or emotions. An internal conflict is a man vs.
self struggle. An external conflict is a struggle between the protagonist and another character
against nature or some outside force. External conflicts are either man verses man, man verses
nature, or man verses society. Various examples of internal and external conflicts can be shown in
Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, Richard Connell s The Most Dangerous Game, and O.Henry

He is put into a situation where he has to swim until he finds shelter. He swims, and for a
seemingly endless time he fought the sea (Connell 42). After a while, he found an island called
Ship Trap Island. So, this shows how he fought against nature. Another example of conflict in
this story is when Rainsford has to fight against General Zaroff, who is an expert at hunting
humans on Ship Trap Island. As Rainsford gets challenged by Zaroff, he says, Thank you, I m a
hunter, not a murderer (49). This shows an example of another external conflict. But, this one is
a man verses man conflict because Rainsford is facing a problem with another character in the
story. Therefore, Rainsford faces many situations where he has to choose between life or death.
Lastly, examples of conflict can be shown in The Gift of the Magi by O.Henry. This story is
about a cute couple that is willing to do anything to buy each other Christmas presents. An
internal conflict faced by Della Young, the protagonist, is when she does not have enough money
to buy her husband Jim a present. All Della had was one dollar and eighty seven cents. And the
next day would be Christmas (O. Henry 153). To get more money, Della sells her most prized
possession, which is her hair. After Della and Jim finally bought their presents by selling their most
prized possessions, another conflict arose. Della bought Jim a chain for his watch, and Jim bought

Effects Of Trauma In Judith Herman
Judith Herman, M.D. with this book introduces us readers into the most impacting stories about
trauma and recovery. As she tells us in the introduction, she used real cases from her professional
experience working as a Doctor. She was also a Professor and a Feminist. For her, the author,
Feminism has a great influence over her and her understanding of the impact that trauma has over
its victims. Many women were involved on violent acts that through history showed the inequality
in rights between men and women. Violence against women can be seen as a social mechanism
used by men as control tool to subordinate them to a lower position compared with men.
Feminism as a movement was the power behind the women who fought for equal rights in a
society where they were denied them. Feminism worked as a motivator, in a sense that allowed
these women to verbalize more freely their traumatic experiences. In addition to these
conversations, the Feminist movement impacted social and political entities and they were able to
hear the voices of these women and the acts that turned them into victims. Dr. Herman describes
the traumatic experiences that distressed people suffered as atrocities. These atrocities in their
context are hidden behind a veil of silence over those who suffered trauma and witnessed it as
well. Horrible events is the way the author described in the book some of the causes of trauma. She
identified some of these people involved as: rape survivors, combat veterans, battered women,
political prisoners, survivors of vast concentration camps created by tyrants who rule nations and
the survivors of small, hidden concentration camps created by tyrants who rule their homes. It is
important to recognize the role of those who participate in these traumatic events. We can identify
first the victim, who might be intentionally or accidentally caught up in the event. Second, we have
the perpetrator or the person who intentionally causes the incident. Victims of trauma can be
children, women, people with disabilities, and even men. Perpetrator could be any person who uses
force or a violent act to exercise control over his victim. The author communicates in Chapter 1
some historical events which

Trifluralin And Photosynthesis Essay
Many past studies have proven that trifluralin productively inhibits root growth in plants.
Researchers have shown that it does this by creating radial enlargement near root tips, which is an
effect of altering the polarity of growth of cortical cells. Many investigations have followed to prove
whether this chemical also has an influence on mitosis. The studies proved that this herbicide
hinders the mitotic process. This study set out to examine this relationship more precisely to
identify whether Trifluralin affects Mitosis during Metaphase.
A trifluralin solution that was 98% pure and Yellow Globe onion bulbs were used to test this
hypothesis. The control solution consisted of equal quantities of methanol and other chemicals in
distilled water. The bulbs were put inside containers filled with distilled water and left to root for
three days. The water was dumped and changed twice a day. After the three days were over, the
bulbs were transported to bottles containing the solutions. Wheat seeds were ... Show more content

The chromosomes were able to divide, condense and separate effectively. However, when they
attempted to arrange themselves for metaphase, they were not lined up accordingly. The chromatids
wrapped around one another in a disorderly state. Many different mutations occurred during
metaphase, and the longer the trifluralin treatment was given to the roots, the more cells were stuck
at metaphase. After three hours, the number of cells in anaphase and telophase dropped about 50%.
After 12 hours, the roots with the trifluralin treatment had about 83% of their cells stuck in
metaphase. Interphase and Prophase were undisturbed by the chemical, because even after 12 hours
of treatment you could see cells successfully going through prophase. These results lead to the
conclusion that as soon as prophase ends and the cells begin to move on towards metaphase,
trifluralin prevents mitosis from continuing past

Obesity Is The Reason Our Youth
Introduction Childhood obesity has been on a steady incline over the past 30 years and is
considered a serious public health concern, especially in elementary school aged children.
According to the US Surgeon General, nearly one in three children are overweight or obese (US
Department of Human Health Services, 2014). The American Heart Association (2010) has age
and sex specific growth charts that show the calculation of children s BMI using their height
and weight. When children s weight is well above the average for their height and age they are
classified as obese. Children BMI for age is in the 95th percentile or higher is considered to be
obese. Obese children normally consume more energy in the form of food and drinks then they
burn off with physical exercise (Kids Health, 2014). Our nation s obesity epidemic effects are
immense: taxpayers, communities, and families spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year
in medical costs and attempts to end childhood obesity (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014).
Obesity is the reason our youth is predicted to live shorter lives than our parents and we need to
change this. Childhood obesity has long term harmful effects on a child s future health. Obese
children are more likely to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol which put them more at
risk for cardiovascular disease in the future (Center for Disease Control Prevention, 2014).
Childhood obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes, cancer, asthma, joint

Accepting card payments can have a tremendous positive effect on cash flow. Even if sales are not

BHSF have periodically considered implementing a debit and credit card payment facility in order
to accept payments from corporate clients and policyholders, this topic was last reviewed by Ian

DSTPolicyholders who may otherwise miss out on an incentive such as continuation of cover
through the lapse process could pay back payments via card. This is an area of huge potential
which is currently handled by a manual application and results in a poor return. Policyholders
could make advance payments for a new health cash plan (or any product), enabling them to
secure cover for a set period of time which could be incentivised by immediate benefit.
Policyholders who leave their company could be given the option to pay their corporate rate in
advance for a set period of time (i.e. 12 months). Using the payment by link service, lapse emails
could be sent rather than a lapse letter which would result in a substantial postal and stationary
saving.

The Human Body Requires A Constant Supply Of Energy, And...
According to Hole s Human Anatomy and Physiology, the human body requires a constant supply
of energy, and body structures must develop, grow, and occasionally be repaired (Shier, Butler, and
Lewis, 2016, p. 694). In order to drive metabolic processes to accomplish all of these crucial tasks,
the body must obtain specialized substances, nutrients, through diet (Shier et al., 2016, p. 694).
Carbohydrates, protein, lipids, vitamins, minerals and water are the six major types of nutrients that
are required by the body. These substances are termed essential nutrients because each one is
extremely crucial for maintenance, growth and repair. However, the body is unable to synthesize an
appropriate amount and these must therefore be obtained through eating habits (Hernandez, n.d.,
para. 1). Carbohydrates, protein and lipids are further categorized as macronutrients because the
body requires these in larger amounts than the other nutrients. Vitamins and minerals are then
known as micronutrients because these are only required in small quantities (Shier et al., 2016, p.
694). Water is not considered a macronutrient or micronutrient; however, it is still essential for
development and cellular growth (McKinley Health Center Macronutrients: The Importance of
Carbohydrate, Protein, and Fat University of Illinois, n.d., para. 13). The nutrientthat is required in
the most substantial amount is carbohydrates. The body is able to break down these substances

The Time Of Cholera, By Florentino Ariza
Nostalgia is one of the most potent emotions in the human psyche. The impulse to romanticize an
idealized past is an inclination that most people have felt at one time or another. Sometimes,
revisiting a familiar place can evoke memories from the far removed past and trigger an intense
longing for another time. These feelings can often affect people more strongly than the actual event
did. As a result, nostalgia can often cause people to interpret reality in distorted, unhealthy ways. In
his novel Love in the Time of Cholera, MГЎrquez tells the story of Florentino Ariza, who attempts
to win the love of Fermina Daza solely on the strength of the brief relationship they shared during
their youth. The two people who find each other in the fading twilight of their lives, however, are
completely different individuals from the young lovers seeking idealized constructs. MГЎrquez
depicts the power nostalgia has to alter his characters reflections on their own youth, their
relationships with one another, and on a society, and way of life, that lives on only in their
memories. The way MГЎrquez s characters view and relate to one another is distorted by their
nostalgia. As they grow older, they often grown disenchanted with the illusions they cherished in
their youth. Florentino s adolescent relationship with Fermina is one that shapes the entirety of his
adult life, and simultaneously prevents him from experiencing a genuine connection with the
woman he claims to love. From the very

How Successful Was Sweden A Feudal Country

The Success of the Swedish Empire
Sweden has not always been the small, quiet country it is today. In fact, back in the seventeenth
and eighteenth century, Sweden was a major player in power. Not only was Sweden small back
then as well, but Sweden was also poor and did not have any allies. Sweden never has been a

Sweden never being a feudal country is vital to its success. Not being feudal means that Sweden s

Natural Selection Vs Artificial Selection
The Darwinian view of life came into focus in 1859, when he published one of the most
important books called On the Origin of Species by Mean of Natural Selection . Back in Darwin s
time in the 19th century historians were being to think of evolutionary change as an explanation for
patterns observed in the future. He did not invent this idea however he carried out the necessary
research to document the idea. He made this book to make two valid points, descent and

The Association Between Metacognitive Beliefs And Auditory...
The association between metacognitive beliefs and auditory hallucinations; a literature review of
empirical studies with clinical and non clinical samples
Several cognitive theories have been proposed in psychology, yet none of those can fully explain
the phenomena of auditory hallucinations. Zimmerman et al. (2005) and Wykes et al. (2008)
showed that cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has a moderate effect in treating positive
symptoms (e.g. hallucinations and delusions) of psychotic disorders. That is to say, there is room
for improvement in this area of research. Accordingly, it may be beneficial to explore new theories
and related interventions. Metacognitive theory provides an excellent framework for understanding

Moreover, a hallucination is not receptive to control by the individual who is experiencing it.
Auditory hallucinations are among the most common. Individuals who suffer from auditory
hallucinations hear sounds or voices that have no actual source (5th ed.; DSM 5). It is common that
the individual initially experience the sound as coming through his or her ears. However,
sometimes, the individual will eventually perceive the sound as coming from inside his or her head
(Romme et al., 1992). David and Nayani (1996) claimed that individuals who suffer from auditory
hallucinations may hear more than one voice. The voices can differ in content, comment on the
individual s thoughts and even have a conversation.
Cognitive theories were dominant for understanding and treating auditory hallucinations (Pilling et
al., 2002). Some contemporary cognitive theories proposed that hallucinations are the result of
misattributions of internal events to external sources (Garety et al., 2001; Bentall, 1990). Auditory
hallucinations are internal verbal speech or thoughts that are perceived by the individual as
occurring externally, according to those cognitive theories. Findings by Preston and Green (1981)
support these misattribution theories by showing an association between auditory hallucinations
and sub vocalisation.

Bryan Caplan And The Austrian School
According to economist Bryan Caplan, by the late twentieth century, a split had developed among
those who self identify with the Austrian School. One group, building on the work of Hayek,
follows the broad framework of mainstream neoclassical economics, including its use of
mathematical models and general equilibrium, and brings a critical perspective to mainstream
methodology merely influenced by the Austrian notions such as the economic calculation problem
and the independent role of logical reasoning in developing economic theory.[33]
Murray Rothbard
A second group, following Mises and Rothbard, rejects the neoclassical theories of consumer and
welfare economics, dismisses empirical methods and mathematical and statistical models as
inapplicable to economic science, and asserts that economic theory went entirely astray in the
twentieth century; they offer the Misesian view as a radical alternative paradigm to mainstream
theory. Caplan wrote that if Mises and Rothbard are right, then [mainstream] economics ... Show

The City Of Houston s Pension Crisis
The City of Houston s Pension Crisis The City of Houston s Pension Crisis 2 Introduction The
City of Houston pension systems are at a crossroads. The recession has brought pension funding
practices into the bureaucratic limelight due to the proliferating scrutiny and tightening of the
local finances. Pension reform has been spurred by ballooning cost projections and an estimate
$2.7 trillion nationwide funding gap (Johnson, Chingos Whitehurst, 2013). Reforming the
insufficient pension system has suggested for most citizens from taxpayers who want to reduce
the expense down and yet still receive a great quality of firefighters, police officer, and public
services who want to preserve their retirement security. The recent Detroit bankruptcy ruling has
left a sobering precedent that pension promises are not sacrosanct, but could possibly renege on
if a local government falls too far behind its funding obligations (Bomey 2013). The wide ranges
of public sector pensions are considering benefit plans. In these kind of plan, when an employee

Literary Themes In Okja
In a world where the problem of mass hunger persists, the perpetual need to find new ways to feed
the hungry has grown immensely. From new types of farming techniques to using different types
of fertilizers, genetically modified organisms have become the trend to stopping world hunger.
Consequently, many have chosen to ridicule the ethicality of using biotechnology to modify
animals for consumers. Most notably, the movie Okja, directed by Bong Joon Ho, follows a young
girl named, Mija, as she goes on a quest to save her super pig, Okja, stripped from her by a
heartless corporation. The clear underlying theme revolves around the idea of loss of innocence
and is employed through many elements of literature described in Thomas C. Foster s How to
Read Literature Like a Professor: placement of geography, a metaphorical vampire, and a hero s
quest Throughout the movie, Okja, the geological settings help accentuate important scenes and
give depth to the story. As stated in Foster s book, Hills and valleys have a life of their own
(Fostern 181). The altitudes of the high mountains and low valleys play as symbolic
environments. Likewise, Okja and Mija s home lies up in the lush hills where they are isolated
from the main city of Seoul. The hills represent a paradise where Mija has grown up in and
symbolizes Mija s youthfulness and innocence. It s only when Mija leaves the mountains to chase

The Initial Argument John MacArthur, a Cessationist, claims that at the moment of salvation all
believers are, baptised, indwelt and sealed with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, MacArthur argues ...

The first part is found in John 20:22 and the second part is found in Acts 2:1 4. Warrington,
claims that a partial filling of the Holy Spirit was given in John 20:22, with a fuller filling given in
Acts 2:1 4. Furthermore, the first filling resulted in the authority to forgive and to withhold the
forgiveness of sins, whilst the second filling resulted in a more permanent indwelling of the Holy
Spirit (John 20:23, Acts 2:4).
However, MacArthur counters this claim by stating that in John 20:22, the Holy Spirit was not
given, but only promised. Evidence for this counterclaim is provided in John 20:26, whereby
eight days after this, pledge to be filled with the Holy Spirit, the disciples are found to be locked
inside through fear of the Jews. Therefore, the disciples must have lacked the Holy Spirit s
manifest power and presence, proving that the Holy Spirit had not yet been given; a view supported
by KoМ€stenberger.
In order to evaluate Warrington s claim and to bring a conclusion to this argument it is essential to

Human Rights And Reproductive Rights Essay
The concept of human rights is a multifaceted one, thereby making it a frequent topic of debate on
a global scale. Furthermore, defining human rights is a complex and volatile issue that brings up
many crucial discussions such as, what it means to have rights , who deserves these suggested
rights and to what extent can a person exercise these rights. These types of discussions can be
controversial despite most of us, especially in a liberal democracy, where we tend to view human
rightsin a similar manner. When examining human rights even further, there are clear ties to
equality, another issue that affects nearly everyone through means of privilege or prejudice. A
crucial aspect of achieving equality between the sexes is giving women the right to control what
happens to their own reproductive organs without the approval of men. Lynn M. Morgan, medical
anthropologist scholar and author of Reproductive Rights or Reproductive Justice? Lessons from
Argentina seeks to address the discrepancy between a human rights framework versus a social
justice framework to tackle the issue of reproductive rights in Argentina. She initially addresses the
fact that using the human rights framework, often used in Argentina by pro choice activists, can be
problematic. As explained earlier, the concept of human rights is convoluted by its very nature.
Hence, Lynn Morgan argues that this issue should be addressed using a justice framework instead,
a typically US centric approach. It is clear

Literary Analysis Of Jimmy Santiago Baac Poetry As Lifesavor
Literary Analysis of Jimmy Santiago Baca: Poetry as Lifesavor The article, Jimmy Santiago
Baca: Poetry as Lifesavor retells the challenges and hardships Baca experienced. Rob Baker, the
author, informs the readers that past experiences will continually influence decisions in the future.
In the beginning it is revealed that the characters parrents abandoned him at the young age of
seven. His troubles only worsened as time went on for he dropped out of junior high, due to not
performing well academically and socially. Therefore, he fell into the wrong crowds and was
eventually sentenced to prison for five to ten years, at the age of twenty one. Poety helped him to
overcome the mental and emotional impact that prison imparts with the individual. Baca now uses
his experiences to reach out to the community by becoming a teacher to encourage children to
embrace their own stories. Rob Baker s tone and diction assists the readerin comprehending how
Bacas past shaped his future. The serious tone and the vocabulary Baker applies; adds to the
total effect of Bacas story. The vocabulary is simple enough for a varitey of ages to understand,
although elaborate enough to be capable of picturing the scene, The healer who tended to her
wound and then brought Baca into the world said that because of the venom Baca would be able
o see in the dark and he would change many times in his life (Baker 893). Both diction and and
tone appeals to the emotions of the reader, for it causes the reader to be aware that this story is
reality to Jimmy Santiago Baca. The author utilizes examples, compare/contrast, a story line, and
cause effect. Baker gives the reader an example of Bacas employment before prison, He worked
piecemal jobs loading food on planes, operating a vending machine route, a handyman business.
Then, during stints in Caliornia and Arizona, he became a very successful drug dealer (Baker
893). Demonstrating how much the character struggled to create a living without a formal
education. Baker not only compared and contrasted Bacas skill level before and after prison but
also his quality of life. Illustrating Baca as an individual who could not read or write to someone
who fell in love with poetry. The writer

Chapter Review for Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs...
Jiamond WatsonMs. SnyderAP English 8 Sunday 2014
Thank You for Arguing
1. Open Your Eyes The first chapter introduced the reader to the art of rhetoric. He describes how
rhetoric works through real life examples. He demonstrates ways that rhetoric persuades us like,
argument from strength, and seduction. He tells the reader that the sole purpose of arguing is to
persuade the audience. He showed that the chief purpose of arguing is to also achieve consensus, a
shared faith in a choice.
2. Set Your Goals This chapter distinguished the difference between a fight and an argument. In an
example, he used a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His only interest is what will solve the issue for the audience. Make the audience believe that you
are selfless. While arguing, act as if the conclusion happened upon. The persuader should express
that what he is doing for the audience does harm to him. It also helps to show doubt in your own
rhetorical ability, become the underdog.
9. Control The Mood
To rouse the audience, in anger or otherwise, you use pathos. Use what your audience expects to
happen and their beliefs. Telling a story that the audience can relate to in the first person makes
the persuader relatable, to pull the audience in, play with your volume to make your emotion
seem real, speaking plainly makes your emotion more believable. Never belittle your audience s
opinion, it can start a riot. Patriotism works not only for a country but can create a sense of unity.
Find your persuasion gaps and fill them with desire and lust. Make your audience lust after your
cause.
10. Turn the Volume Down
The passive voice encourages passive behavior, and can help you describe a wrongdoing without
identifying the wrongdoer. Comfort your audience with simple plans, empowering words, and get
your audience to smile. Humor, all types of humor, can calm any audience although it can backfire
if you overplay the emotion yourself.
11. Gain the High Ground
Before the argument begins, the persuader needs to know what his audience is thinking, their
values, and their views.

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sicily is too far away and too numerous to be ruled even if conquered . Nicias recognized the complex nature of the expedition. In order to succeed, the expedition had to assemble a huge armada and army that required support from the entire Athenian empire (food, money, forces, etc). The logistical difficulties to support the expedition alone may be enough to cause it to fail. Additionally, the far distance between Athens and Sicily would complicate their ability to provide reinforcement. One of Nicias s main objections to the Sicily Expedition was its Ambiguity. The decision to invade Sicily fundamentally violated their grand strategy for war with Sparta. The supporters for the expedition had presented no clearly defined objective, or displayed just intent for the expedition, this he feared would lead to mission creep. The pretenses of the expedition were to assist an ally that grew to an offensive operation against Syracuse. In reality, it was a scheme by avarice individuals who saw an opportunity to expand the empire, while enriching themselves. The conquest of Sicily posed no vital interest to Athens. The Egestaenas seek help, from their alliance with Athens, for their war against Selinus; they warned of potential Syracusan domination of Sicily and aid to Sparta. Freud beliefs of young men between the age of four five in the phallic stage being sexually interested in their mother and aggression towards the father is by far bizarre and disturbing to me. Another example of conflict in this story is when Rainsford has to fight against General Zaroff, who is an expert at hunting humans on Ship Trap Island. As Rainsford gets challenged by Zaroff, he says, Thank you, I m a hunter, not a murderer (49). This shows an example of another external conflict. Therefore, Rainsford faces many situations where he has to choose between life or death. Lastly, examples of conflict can be shown in The Gift of the Magi by O.Henry. This story is about a cute couple that is willing to do anything to buy each other Christmas presents. An internal conflict faced by Della Young, the protagonist, is when she does not have enough money to buy her husband Jim a present. All Della had was one dollar and eighty seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas (O. Henry 153). To get more money, Della sells her most prized possession, which is her hair. • 27. Effects Of Trauma In Judith Herman Judith Herman, M.D. with this book introduces us readers into the most impacting stories about trauma and recovery. As she tells us in the introduction, she used real cases from her professional experience working as a Doctor. She was also a Professor and a Feminist. For her, the author, Feminism has a great influence over her and her understanding of the impact that trauma has over its victims. Many women were involved on violent acts that through history showed the inequality in rights between men and women. Violence against women can be seen as a social mechanism used by men as control tool to subordinate them to a lower position compared with men. Feminism as a movement was the power behind the women who fought for equal rights in a society where they were denied them. Feminism worked as a motivator, in a sense that allowed these women to verbalize more freely their traumatic experiences. In addition to these conversations, the Feminist movement impacted social and political entities and they were able to hear the voices of these women and the acts that turned them into victims. Dr. Herman describes the traumatic experiences that distressed people suffered as atrocities. These atrocities in their context are hidden behind a veil of silence over those who suffered trauma and witnessed it as well. Horrible events is the way the author described in the book some of the causes of trauma. She identified some of these people involved as: rape survivors, combat veterans, battered women, political prisoners, survivors of vast concentration camps created by tyrants who rule nations and the survivors of small, hidden concentration camps created by tyrants who rule their homes. It is important to recognize the role of those who participate in these traumatic events. We can identify first the victim, who might be intentionally or accidentally caught up in the event. Second, we have the perpetrator or the person who intentionally causes the incident. Victims of trauma can be children, women, people with disabilities, and even men. Perpetrator could be any person who uses force or a violent act to exercise control over his victim. The author communicates in Chapter 1 some historical events which ... Researchers have shown that it does this by creating radial enlargement near root tips, which is an effect of altering the polarity of growth of cortical cells. Many investigations have followed to prove whether this chemical also has an influence on mitosis. The studies proved that this herbicide hinders the mitotic process. This study set out to examine this relationship more precisely to identify whether Trifluralin affects Mitosis during Metaphase. A trifluralin solution that was 98% pure and Yellow Globe onion bulbs were used to test this hypothesis. The control solution consisted of equal quantities of methanol and other chemicals in distilled water. Obesity Is The Reason Our Youth Introduction Childhood obesity has been on a steady incline over the past 30 years and is considered a serious public health concern, especially in elementary school aged children. According to the US Surgeon General, nearly one in three children are overweight or obese (US Department of Human Health Services, 2014). The American Heart Association (2010) has age and sex specific growth charts that show the calculation of children s BMI using their height and weight. When children s weight is well above the average for their height and age they are classified as obese. Children BMI for age is in the 95th percentile or higher is considered to be obese. Obese children normally consume more energy in the form of food and drinks then they burn off with physical exercise (Kids Health, 2014). Our nation s obesity epidemic effects are immense: taxpayers, communities, and families spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year in medical costs and attempts to end childhood obesity (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014). Obesity is the reason our youth is predicted to live shorter lives than our parents and we need to change this. Childhood obesity has long term harmful effects on a child s future health. • 33. The Human Body Requires A Constant Supply Of Energy, And... According to Hole s Human Anatomy and Physiology, the human body requires a constant supply of energy, and body structures must develop, grow, and occasionally be repaired (Shier, Butler, and Lewis, 2016, p. 694). In order to drive metabolic processes to accomplish all of these crucial tasks, the body must obtain specialized substances, nutrients, through diet (Shier et al., 2016, p. 694). Carbohydrates, protein, lipids, vitamins, minerals and water are the six major types of nutrients that are required by the body. These substances are termed essential nutrients because each one is extremely crucial for maintenance, growth and repair. However, the body is unable to synthesize an appropriate amount and these must therefore be obtained through eating habits (Hernandez, n.d., para. 1). Carbohydrates, protein and lipids are further categorized as macronutrients because the body requires these in larger amounts than the other nutrients. Vitamins and minerals are then known as micronutrients because these are only required in small quantities (Shier et al., 2016, p. 694). Water is not considered a macronutrient or micronutrient; however, it is still essential for development and cellular growth (McKinley Health Center Macronutrients: The Importance of Carbohydrate, Protein, and Fat University of Illinois, n.d., para. 13). • 34. The Time Of Cholera, By Florentino Ariza Nostalgia is one of the most potent emotions in the human psyche. The impulse to romanticize an idealized past is an inclination that most people have felt at one time or another. Sometimes, revisiting a familiar place can evoke memories from the far removed past and trigger an intense longing for another time. These feelings can often affect people more strongly than the actual event did. As a result, nostalgia can often cause people to interpret reality in distorted, unhealthy ways. In his novel Love in the Time of Cholera, MГЎrquez tells the story of Florentino Ariza, who attempts to win the love of Fermina Daza solely on the strength of the brief relationship they shared during their youth. The two people who find each other in the fading twilight of their lives, however, are completely different individuals from the young lovers seeking idealized constructs. MГЎrquez depicts the power nostalgia has to alter his characters reflections on their own youth, their relationships with one another, and on a society, and way of life, that lives on only in their memories. The way MГЎrquez s characters view and relate to one another is distorted by their nostalgia. As they grow older, they often grown disenchanted with the illusions they cherished in their youth. Florentino s adolescent relationship with Fermina is one that shapes the entirety of his adult life, and simultaneously prevents him from experiencing a genuine connection with the woman he claims to love. Moreover, a hallucination is not receptive to control by the individual who is experiencing it. Auditory hallucinations are among the most common. Individuals who suffer from auditory hallucinations hear sounds or voices that have no actual source (5th ed.; DSM 5). It is common that the individual initially experience the sound as coming through his or her ears. However, sometimes, the individual will eventually perceive the sound as coming from inside his or her head (Romme et al., 1992). David and Nayani (1996) claimed that individuals who suffer from auditory hallucinations may hear more than one voice. The voices can differ in content, comment on the individual s thoughts and even have a conversation. Cognitive theories were dominant for understanding and treating auditory hallucinations (Pilling et al., 2002). Some contemporary cognitive theories proposed that hallucinations are the result of misattributions of internal events to external sources (Garety et al., 2001; Bentall, 1990). Auditory hallucinations are internal verbal speech or thoughts that are perceived by the individual as occurring externally, according to those cognitive theories. Furthermore, defining human rights is a complex and volatile issue that brings up many crucial discussions such as, what it means to have rights , who deserves these suggested rights and to what extent can a person exercise these rights. These types of discussions can be controversial despite most of us, especially in a liberal democracy, where we tend to view human rightsin a similar manner. When examining human rights even further, there are clear ties to equality, another issue that affects nearly everyone through means of privilege or prejudice. A crucial aspect of achieving equality between the sexes is giving women the right to control what happens to their own reproductive organs without the approval of men. Lynn M.
