Nightcrawler A Sociopath Analysis
It was a pleasant surprise seeing that NightCrawler was one of the film choices for this
psychopathy paper, I saw it in theaters when it was originally released and it has been one of my
all time favorites ever since. Even after rewatching it countless times since, the movie still never
fails to keep my attention. One thing is for sure, Jake Gyllenhaal s character, Louis Bloom, is a
bona fide psychopath. I will go into greater detail about the reasoning for this later, after discussing
what exactly being a psychopath entails and the different traits that are used to characterize them.
Believe it or not, many people in today s society cannot really distinguish between the two terms,
psychopath and sociopath. Back in the early 1800s, the doctors that were working with mental
patients began to realize that some of their patients who appeared outwardly normal had what they
termed a moral depravity or moral insanity . These patients seemed to have no sense of the rights of
other people, or even of ethics in general. The term psychopath was initially applied to these
individuals around the beginning of the twentieth century. In the 1930s, the term switched to
sociopath to focus more heavily on the detrimental effect that these people can have on... Show

Sandy Hook Theory
Robbie Parker, accused of being a crisis actor, also broke down on camera while speaking at a
press conference. Also, Gene Rosen cried on camera while explaining his story (Stuart). The
theorists can make many claims, but they do not all hold true. To continue with Crisis Actors,
theorists point out family s reactions to their children s death that day. Emilie Parker, one of the
twenty children killed at Sandy Hook, has people questioning if she actually passed away that
day. Theorists say that her father, Robbie Parker, is seen getting into character before a press
conference, which leads them to believe that he is an actor or playing the role of a grieving
father (Hallowell). Before he got up to speak at the conference, he was supposedly laughing and
smiling. Soon after he looked like he took a moment to compose himself and then let emotion
over take himself. In a hoax video, when the clip is played of Robbie Parker doing this a line
runs along the bottom of the video and reads, How many parents are laughing and joking a day
after their first child has been shot? (Hallowell). The Theorists also brought Barack Obama into
one of their lies. In pre shooting photograph, Emilie is pictured wearing a flowered red and black
dress. After the Sandy Hook shooting there is a picture of Emilie and Barack Obama taken during
Obama s visit with the families of Sandy Hook. In the picture with Obama the girl is wearing the
same dress. It has been suggested that the girl in

Automatic Weapon Ban
Automatic Weapon Ban
July 20th, 2012, twelve are killed and fifty eight are injured at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred round magazine. An
automatic weapon has no use in the United States because all sporting events, and activities with
guns can be accomplished without automatic weapons. It is important because it limits the
possibilities of events like the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are
a good for shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of
automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. People die because of
the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons should be banned in the US because
they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in recreational activities.
A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon because
birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. A person would only
need one of these shots because it has a good radius. Inside a home, it is all close quarters, which
removes the use of a long range weapon like an automatic rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots
a radius of projectiles to protect yourself. James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less
than two percent of home invasion crimes (web). An automatic weapon would not be as efficient
because it only

Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers
A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called
monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used
more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture
anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are
poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the
fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal
negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two
polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called
copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during
copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation
characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will
degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which
are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to
also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Difference between L and D lactic
acids (Gupta et al, 2007)
Synthesis of PLA and PLGA Synthesis of PLA is started through the fermentation of bacteria.

Racing Drones
Speed and Efficiency
When it comes to drones, no two flights are the same. From variable wind speeds and air density
to propeller count and battery output, each time you head out to the flight field, get ready to
experience a new snowflake. Depending on the type of flying you re planning on doing and the
type of speeds you re looking to achieve, there needs to be some consideration into the gear your
drone will be running. A racing drone needs different props than a videography drone. Heavy
drones need more thrust to get up and stay off the ground, while other, lighter designs require less,
which means some variation in the LiPo used. Drones meant for surveying need to be efficient at
low speeds, optimizing their amount of time spent airborne. For racing drones, overall efficiency at

If you ve ever been outside, you know that air flows in a somewhat chaotic and unpredictable
way, even if its overall tendencies are well understood. This means that wings and propellers
need to be tested in wind tunnels in order to get a precise set of efficiency values. In layman s
terms, we can say that the efficiency of a propeller varies depending on how fast air is traveling
over the propeller versus how fast the tips of the propellers are spinning. In aeronautics and marine
hydrodynamics, this ratio is called the advance ratio . {include image like

Essay about Stewardship
Around the world in Christian and secular circles we hear the word stewardship. Not only is
stewardship one of the basic issues discussed in scripture, but it s also something we neglect as
something we need to concentrate on while going through our own Christian walk. We live in a
society that is very individualistic, concentrating on whatever will bring pleasure and make us feel
good. Stewardship definitely doesn t fit into the way society is today. Before going to far into this,
what exactly is stewardship? Stewardship is taking careof or managing every God given resource
with an attitude of responsibility directing such resources for his intended purposes. To truly
understand stewardship, we need to first look at what God says in his... Show more content on

There will come a day when we are going to be accountable for all our sins. Standing before
Christ, we will be asked how we plead to these sins, and judgement will occur. Throughout the
Bible stewardship is scattered everywhere, from the Old Testament days of Moses and Abraham to
the teachings of the disciples and Paul. When one carefully studies the word of God, it is truly
evident that we are to be stewards of our total self, not just time, talents, and money. God calls us to
give our lives up, not just our resources.
There are six separate and distinct categories when defining one s wellness. Those stages are
physical, social, vocational, environmental, psychological, and spiritual. Without one the other
could not exist. Physical wellness includes being physically fit, eating nutritiously, and getting
adequate sleep. I consider myself to be doing well in this category. I always am in bed before
midnight, and exercise at least four to five times in a week. I consider my diet to be the one thing
lacking when looking deeper into my physical well being. Social wellness means having
satisfying, trusting relationships and interacting well with others. I feel that this is also a strong
part of my total wellness. I feel confident as well as excited to meet new people here at Cornerstone
everyday. Vocational wellness is finding meaning in and satisfaction with your school, job, and

The Celebration Of Womanhood By Maya Angelou
The Celebration of Womanhood
Women s beauty has been one of the favorite subjects of many literary works. Many genius authors
have admired women s physical beauty according to their imaginations. However, their literary
works, the male dominated society and the female community have also served as accomplices in
creating notion about the beauty of women. In our society, it is believed that a woman should have
fair skin, hourglass figure and long hair to attain the title of a beautiful woman . This notion has
degraded the stature of the entire female community instead of elevating it. The revolutionary poet,
Maya Angelou, tried to break this notion by writing a poem to give tribute to an average looking
woman who can become trendsetter and leader in her field of interest despite of not having fair
skin and the hourglass figure. In the poem Phenomenal Woman , the author urges women to be
proud of them and their gender and to celebrate the womanhood instead of being ashamed of it.
Maya Angelou has been regarded as an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus on her real life
experiences (1). Phenomenal Woman falls into the category of poems based on the real life
experiences and the human truth. The author narrates the poem as the first person which reflects
how audacious personality Maya was. Being a modernist writer, Maya Angelou uses imagery to
compare her physical attributes such as her smile, gesture to the worldly objects. The use of
symbolism is also

age of 85 in San Diego, California. Growing up His father, Walter A. Rogers, was a civil engineer
and his mother, Julia M. Cushing, was a homemaker and serious Pentecostal Christian. Carl was
the fourth of their six children. Rogers was very intelligent and could read well before
kindergarten. Following an education in a strict religious and ethical environment as an altar
boy at the vicarage of Jimply, and he had become a rather isolated, self determining, and
disciplined person, and acquired a knowledge and an appreciation for the scientific method in a
practical world. His first career choice was agriculture, at the University of Wisconsin Madison,
where he was a part of the fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda, followed by history and then
religion. At age 20, following his 1922 trip to Peking, China, for an international Christian
conference, he started to doubt his religious convictions. To help him clarify his career choice, he
attended a seminar entitled Why am I entering the Ministry, after which he decided to change his
career. In 1924, he graduated from University of Wisconsin and enrolled at Union Theological
Seminary. After two years he left the seminary to attend Teachers College, Columbia University,

Why Might Having More Folding Have Been Important To...
Question 1: Researchers found that Einstein s brain had a higher ratio of glial cells to neurons than
other brains. What are glial cells, and why might having more glial cells be important?
Answer 1: Glial cells are cells that surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between
them. Glial cells are also the most abundant cells in the central nervous system. Types of glial cells
include oligodendrocytes, which have processes that form the myelin sheaths around CNS nerve
fibers, astrocytes the most abundant CNS neuroglia, ependymal cells that line cerebrospinal fluid
cavities, microglia cells that are the defensive cells in the CNS, schwann cells and satellite cells,
which form myelin sheaths around CNS never fibers.

being extremely intelligent had a higher amount of glial cells in his brain than the average human.
Question 2: Researchers have noted that Einstein s brain had more complex folding than other
comparison brains. What are the ridges and grooves in the brain called, and why might having more
folding have been important to Einstein s intelligence?
Answers 2: The ridges in the brain are called gyri and the grooves are call sulci.
why might having more folding have been important to Einstein s intelligence?
Many scientist believe that more folding can create extra surface area for mental processes,
allowing more connections between brain cells. With more connections between brain cells a
person like Einstein would be able to make cognitive connections that would otherwise be
impossible. This extra folding may have allowed Einstein to come up with his incredible theories
like the General Theory of Relativity.

Evolution of Human
Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member
of the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some
40,000 years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came
to be. Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate
explanation by a society as to where we came from. The science of paleoanthropology, which also
tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be, is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is
the science of the evolution of humans, and it is the base of all research in that field. Humans have
undergone many different changes during the last hundred million years, and it is... Show more

Associated with these changes is a gradual reduction in the size of the face and jaws. In early
hominines, the face was large and positioned in front of the braincase. As the teeth became smaller
and the brain expanded, the face became smaller and its position changed. Thus, the relatively small
face of modern humans is located below, rather than in front of, the large, expanded braincase.
Evidence of immediate relatives of the human species begins about five million years ago with the
Australopithecus genus and leads in to the primitive Homo genus to modern humans. The nature of
the human s evolution before that is uncertain, but scientists have hypothesized some ideas. What
they do know is that between 7 and 20 million years ago, primitive apelike animals were widely
distributed on the African and later on the Eurasian continents. Although many fossil bones and
teeth have been found, the way of life of these creatures, and their evolutionary relationships to the
living apes and humans, remain matters of strong disagreement among scientists. One of these
fossil apes, known as Sivapithecus, appears to share many features with the living Asian great ape
and the orangutan, whose direct ancestor it may well be. None of these fossils, however, offers
convincing evidence of being on the evolutionary line leading to the hominid family generally. But
they do help paint a picture of what early human relatives could have been like. The convincing

The Red Guard Movement Essay
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and
anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions
that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a
background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his
political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult
and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber,
1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all
mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple
ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum
and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009).
The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the
lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap
Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution
(Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which
resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction
(Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education,

Persuasive Essay On Internet Privacy
Consumers of the Internet continually yearn for the time where there Internet privacy will be taken
into consideration. Sadly, that day may never come. The Internet has become a very lucrative
world with many players involved. Now that there are criminals who break into websites and steal
information for personal gain, there s a huge incentive to protect consumers at all costs. Meaning
there s a need to increase Internetmonitoring to ensure the protection of consumers, which violates
the privacy of everyone who uses the Internet. For all the consumers of the Internet, Internet privacy
should be entitled to everyone. It s virtually impossible to grant Internet privacy, when you have
entities stealing and using critical and personal information.
Everybody blames advertising when it comes to personal information on the Internet. That s only
the tip of the iceberg. The Internet has become a very vulnerable place for hackers or people
who stolen information for personal gain. According to NBC news, there was a 20 year old
woman, Amy Boyer who was stalked with the help of the Internet. The hacker/killer bought Boyer
s social security for $45 from a website. Boyer was murdered on Oct.15, 1999. The killer
immediately committed suicide after the murder of Amy Boyer. Because of incidents like this, it s
so hard to grant total privacy.
Sadly, privacy concerns don t only arise from criminal activity. Ian Oxman, a well known spam
fighter and privacy advocate decided to trace a car back to its previous owner. Oxman was
surprised at how easy it is to track the former owner. Upon calling up the previous owner, he
response is You don t know who I am but I m driving the car you sold. At the very end she says,
How did you find me? Internet users are saying, How did you find me? more than they are
comfortable with. The real question is, are consumer s privacy not taken seriously? It s agreed that
monitoring the Internet is great for protecting valuable information, but one should not be able to
track someone as easily as Oxman did.

In most cases, they are created on location, but the decision is influenced by the size and nature of
the project, taking into account the restrictions of the site.
3.1Casting Process Prior to the panels being cast to size, a concrete slab is poured to use as a base
for the tilt up panels to be cast onto.
An engineer is then required to set out boundaries and help in the set up of formwork, which is
then erected in the shape of the panels. This includes making space for openings such as doors
and windows within the design. Formwork is positioned for all panels, in a jigsaw like formation
on the slab, as to allow for steady project flow. Formwork is to be created to such a height as to
allow for multiple castings to be made on top of each other.
The slab is then coated within formwork with a bond breaker as to allow for the most comfort
when tilting up the panels.
As in regular concrete construction, reinforcing is positioned where necessary.
Once everything is positioned as required, concrete is then ready to be poured. When the concrete
has been poured, manual labour is required to trowel for a smooth finish, either by hand or machine
trowel. This can leave a smooth finish, or textured, but must be compliant with designs for
consistency.
With the removal of formwork, and last minute detailing to the panels, they are ready to be lifted
into place.

My Queer Identity
Journal VI: This Semester
I am thinking about every semester I have had at Brandeis so far; I feel that in every single one I
earn more life lessons that I can carry with me. This semester, I have gained more empowerment in
learning more about the person I am.
In previous semesters, I have grasped my Latinx identity through Latin American related courses
and through the exploration of its complex and vast history and culture. My immigrant identity
has developed through my own experience, my awareness work in the subject, investigating more
about it in classes, through my work in journalism, and my travels. There are so many different
parts of me that I am constructing one by one. It is as if each brick counts as one particle of my
whole me. This semester, I have been able to strongly grasp my queer identity, feeling more
comfortable in my own skin, by accepting who I am and sharing it with others the people I love and
who are important in my life. For sure my queer identity is the least explored brick out of the
whole construction of myself. And maybe because it is an identity I cannot explore without
other(s). I think that I can certainly speak about how I feel attracted to people of the same sex as
mine. However, I certainly think that if I do not love someone back, how could I be sure of my
queer identity? So I experienced a tidbit of love and a much too soon heartbreak, but it made me
realize that, indeed, I am queer; I am proud.
This semester, I have been able to

Effects of Supply and Demand on Teachers Salaries Supply and Demand has a major effect on our
economy. It effects teacher s salaries more than people think. Salaries are determined by the market
forces of supply and demand. Today, schools try to focus on obtaining teachers who have a strong

A higher number of effective teachers are willing to provide their skills to school districts if the
wage is high than if it is low. Meaning that effective teachers are willing to work for school
districts that have higher paying salaries, even if the working conditions are poor. Along with
demand, a change in supply, other than wages, will shift the supply of teachers outward or
inward. Outward will mean that more teachers are willing to work for a school district at any
wage. An inward shift means that fewer teachers are willing to work at any wage. Increasing
wages that effective teachers can command in another occupation, means that any given wage,
fewer teachers will be willing to provide their teaching service. The labor market for teachers will
be in equilibrium when the number of effective teachers who are willing to teach is exactly equal
to the number of teachers the school district is willing to employ. Also, there is equilibrium when
the quantity supplied is equal to the quantity demanded at a single wage. This is what economists
call the market clearing range. Some teachers are willing to work at wages set below the market
clearing wage. This creates a problem because there are not enough effective teachers willing to
work under the market clearing price to meet the quantity demanded at that wage. There are
however, effective teachers whose decisions of employment are based on other things, not just
wage. They are not throwing out the financial obligations,

Essay on Cycles of Violence in The Battler
Cycles of Violence in The Battler
Ernest Hemingway s The Battler provides a continued account of Nick Adams dangerous and
violent life. Previous stories compiled in The Short Stories edition of Hemingway s work
documents some of the tribulations of Nick Adams, one of Hemingway s protagonists. Apparently,
Nick has been plagued by moments of sheer humility, terror, and immutable violence. In the
Hemingway short story Indian Camp, Nick is a young boy who witnesses a dreadfully difficult
birth by a Native American woman, enduring all the while the hubris of his surgeon father, who is
contestibly insensitive to Nick s innocence. Once the birth has ended, the husband of the woman is

His state of affairs does not improve, however. Nick happens upon a camp of tow men, one of
whom is an ex prizefighter, Ad Francis. Upon arrival, Nick calls out, Hello, and is greeted by Ad
with Where d you get that shiner? (p. 130) Not a typical response, but Nick is about to learn he
is not in a set of typical circumstances. Ad Francis face is described queerly formed and
mutilated...putty in color, with a sunken nose, slitted eyes and with only one ear. (p. 131)
Clearly, the implication is that Ad Francis has seen some beatings in his day. This is confirmed
by the man himself: They all bust their hands on me...they couldn t hurt me. (p. 132) The
extreme physical toll taken by Ad has affected him mentally. Listen, he tells Nick, I m not quite
right. (p. 132) Like Nick, Ad is a man who has encountered violence and humiliation all of his
life. Countless blows have found their mark on his now deformed face. In a way, Ad is a physical
representation of Nick s fortitude and perserverance, a fellow sufferer whose pain has surfaced in a
more tangible way, who takes immediate notice of things like black eyes.
Soon after Nick s introduction to Ad, another man approaches the fire. Nick is introduced to
Bugs as Ad s pal...he s crazy too. (p. 133) Physically, Bugs is a stark contrast to Ad s figure: tall,
black, low voiced and calm. Bugs begins to cook a dinner of ham and eggs over the campfire that

To what extent does the Government have the duty to monitor the internet? The Internet is a global
computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of
interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. The Government should

The Scale Of Global Climate Disruption Essay
The scale of global climate disruption is too great to conquer with only statements of commitment
and generalized solutions, especially given that many nationally determined contributions (NDCs)
are not enough to limit warming to 2 degrees. Given the massive scope of the changing climate
system, addressing and solving the causes can be accomplished and observed more effectively on a
smaller scale, such as provided by cities, businesses, and institutions of higher learning, which
compose an impactful proportion of the larger body (state or nation). The only way to effectively
integrate sustainable solutions broadly is to examine small scale successful measures in living
laboratories, and to then implement those more widely and efficiently. This allows greater regions
to tailor and adapt solutions to fit into their community.
There needs to be integration on all levels of society and among the various stakeholders in order
to have any hope of restricting warming to 1.5 2 degrees Celsius, therefor limiting the disastrous
potential impacts. This report will detail and inventory some of the most ambitious climate action
plans and applied policies from a selection of the most influential and innovative cities, businesses,

Myth still remains one of the major links that merges the different cultures and religions from

Throughout history, myths have created various similarities and differences between the cultures

The passage from Enuma Elish reveals that water was a precious element to the Balbylonians; it
was difficult to find water because they lived in such dry and barren land. In Babylonian culture,
Titmat became the Earth, which literally made her, Mother Earth, therefore making the land and
agriculture important to the civilization. The Creation of the Titans and Gods shows that the people
of Greece were abundant in agriculture thanks to Zeus; although Mother Earth and Zeus are not the
same, they had the same value in society and that they had created the land the people lived on. Not
only were the land, water and agriculture important in society, but also the society and structure
itself was a growing matter. The myth, The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universetells of a
message that was sent throughout the people of India about their roll in society. In order for one

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Data Model

1.Describe and compare 3 data models outlining their strengths and weaknesses with each other.
Connolly and Begg (2009) defines a data model as an integrated collection of concepts for
describing and manipulating data, relations between data, and constraints on the data in an
organization. Simply, a data model is a representation of how the different types of data interact.
They can be categorized into three main broad aspects, which are object based, record based and
physical data model. The object based model include the Entity Relationship, Semantic, Functional
and Object Oriented Model. The record based comprise of Relational Data Model, Network Model
and the Hierarchical Model. The physical data model describe how data is stored in the computer, ...

Similar to the network data model, data is represented as collections of records and relationships
are represented by sets. This model only permits a node to have one parent, this makes it efficient
for searching if all desired access paths follow the parent child linkages. This makes one to many
relationships well represented within the hierarchical model. The main difference between the
network data model and the hierarchical data model, is that in the network model a child could
have a many to many relationship with its parent entity. Similarly, just like the network data model,
the hierarchical data model is simple and easy to design.
The main limitation of record based data models like the network and hierarchical is they do not
provide adequate facilities for explicitly specifying constraints on the data (Connolly 2009). Another
limitation of the network and hierarchical model is that they require the user to have knowledge of
the physical database being accessed, whereas the relational data model provides a substantial
amount of data independence. (Connolly

The Cave Allegory
We experience reality through our five senses; sight, touch, smell, taste, and hearing. These
provide us with the ability to experience reality. But with illusion, we use our imagination. The
Cave Allegory talks about imagining a cave full of imprisoned people since their birth, facing a
blank wall. The prisoners watch shadows of objects passing in front of a fire that is behind them
and gives names to these shadows. Now since these people have been chained to the wall all of
their lives, the shadows are their reality. Once broken free from the chains, the prisoners are able
to see the objects for what they are and discover that their reality was not really what they thought.

The Feast Of The Goat Book Analysis
The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas LLosa
Much like Bolano, LLosa s book is also character driven It was speculation when I first started
reading Feast of the Goat but the further into the book I read, the more I come to know more
about the traumatic experiences taking place. The characters were driven with fear: the assassins
who killed Trujillo and Urania who recalled her experiences at her young during her encounter with
Trujillo. For example, in chapter twelve, Salvador spoke with Father Fortin about his mission to kill
Trujillo. On one hand, there was a side of him knowing the consequences of caring out the
assassination and as he put it, wondering once he killed a man if he would go to hell. On the
other hand, there was a side of him that drove him into understanding why Trujillo had to die.
During his conversation with Father Fortin, he spoke of Trujillo and his actions: What they re
doing to the bishops, to the churches, that disgusting campaign television, on the radio, in the
papers (LLosa 184). He knew right away that he had to cut off the hydra s head (184). Upon the
issue regarding Urania, she and her Aunt Adelina recall her father Agustin Cabral (Egghead) and
about the letter in The Public Forum that lead to her dad falling into disgrace. However as the
story goes on the timeline does shift its course and ends up back and forth between the events that
occurred before and after what took place at the Mahogany house. For example, chapter fourteen

Sigmund Freud s The Uncanny
In The Uncanny Sigmund Freud describes the uncanny, explaining it as that class of frightening
which leads back to what is old and long familiar (825) In order to adequately describe exactly
how something which is old and long familiar becomes frightening he uses the German word
Heimlich , which essentially means homelike. In direct contrast with Heimlich, exists the word
unheimlich, which can be understood as something that is the opposite of homelike. Freud
describes unheimlich as something which should have remained secret but has come to light.
While there are a great many things that are able to make us feel this uncanny feeling, according

Safe Port Act Of 2006
SAFE Port Act of 2006 Terrorism has been one of the major concerns of the entire world; however,
the incident of 9/11 entirely changed the perception of governments towards the issue of terrorism.
In this regard, the United States of America has significantly improvised its approach towards
dealing with terrorism. The approach of the U.S. is also justifiable as the United Statesis the only
country that had to face the maximum ramifications caused by terrorism as thousands of people
have lost their lives in multiple terrorist acts. Moreover, the U.S. has also tolerated the loss of
billions of dollars in the shape of loss of capital, and investing in improved military and
intelligence services. Despite of all these efforts, the U.S. has always felt the threat of terrorist
activities; based on this fact, the government and legislature of the United States of America has
enacted many acts of Congress to ensure the security of the residents, capital, and assets of the
country. Out of various strategies to make United States a safer country, the Security and
Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act in considered the most imperative yet debated topic
among the politicians as well as the public of the U.S.
Introduction of Safe Port Act of 2006 The basic purpose of the Act was to control all the ongoing
activities of every single port of United States to ensure the safety of United States from the threats
of terrorist activities. President Bush signed the Act on 13 October 2006.

The Marxist Theory Is The Political And Economic Theories...
The Marxist theory is the political and economic theories originated by German theorists: Karl
Marx and Friedrich Engels. Marx was born in Germany in 1818 and studied philosophy and law.
He was among many the most important authors of sociology and was best known as the father of
Marxism (McIntyre, 21). Along with Friedrich Engels, he wrote and published The Communist
Manifesto. This document helped shape the revolutions that reconstructed much of the world with
over the course of the next century. According to Marx the most important thing about society is
the way a society is organized to produce goods and services, also known as mode of production.
The relationships among people and people s relationships to the forces of production are how
decisions were made about what to do with the outcomes. The Marxist theory recognizes several
typical modes of production and characteristics of different periods in our past history (McIntyre,

class structures or capital growth, Asiatic mode which is allegedly the original form of society
where small groups removes social additions through violence directed at settled or unsettled band

Q1: Why do you think Starbucks has now elected to expand internationally primarily through local
joint ventures to whom it licenses its format, as opposed to using a pure licensing strategy?
First of all, the main point of this topic is that local joint venture gives control to Starbucks. In
fact, the company can be really sure that licensees are following its success formula. For example,
it allowed the company to the liberty to train the foreign working party by transferring some

It could be said, that the quality of the coffee Starbucks serves is a competitive advantage. However,
a joint venture offers the lowest possible protection of the sustainable competitive advantage (SCA).
Therefore, Starbucks will have to implement strict guidelines to be able to keep their SCA alive

the same type of SCA while being a focused differentiator.
The third is the benefit of knowing how well the US product will do in the foreign market
through local adaptation. Initially, it is that local adaptation which serves as the greatest benefit
of the partnership. Local adaptation looks at how well a US product will sell in the foreign
market. A partnership allows for the collaboration between foreign and US partners to develop a

The Short Term Mission Trips
Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and
every day. As Americans we have an urge to go into these countries to help as much as possible
because of that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the
1960s but did not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters,
Americans saw and need and went, since then short term missiontrips show no sign stopping
anytime soon. As the popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with
the way the trips are led to the extent of questioning whether or not these trips are really worth the
amount of money and time that they consume. Through periodicals, interviews, narratives, and
articles, I will show the issues and improvements that could be made to the living situations, attitude
of the Americans, and relationships that are acquired during the short term mission trips.

Sunwind A.B. A Case Study
Introduction
On November 14, 2000 Olav Larsson, Managing Director of Sunwind, eased back in his seat as
his A380 climbed away from Tokyo s Narita Airport to begin the 17 hour flight to Gothenburg,
Sweden. He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan where he had visited factories of Nissan
and Mazda as well as a number of their parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that
Sunwind should initiate a proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor

Average weekly requirements in 2001 were expected to approach 1,400 units. Lars estimated
Sunwind s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had
hired an additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a
numerically controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts.
Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the
gluing machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of
the rejects included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also
rejected a shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four
separate pieces which made up a floor lid.
Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the
world wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers.
He knew that Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied
on only 320 suppliers, while Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of
suppliers; pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily
newspapers, did not help his peace of mind.
He was also aware that Just In Time deliveries had been implemented recently

Analysis Of Everett Feruson s Church History Essay
Everett Feruson in Church History does a spendid work in coursing through church history until
the 13th century. Ferguson s writing keeps the reader captivated, being witty at times, but overall
being very helpful, for example in defining the term simplex of Charles the Simple to mean
without guile. This is notable for he covers a wide swath of history with a life differing from ours
while including a review of culture, architecture and politics. His descriptions vividly portrait the
faithfulness and the struggles of the church. This strife was also within the church as striving in
doctrine occurred, two important areas were the fight against docetiscism and addressing sins
occurring after baptism. We appreciate the value of the installed leaders such as Ignatius and
Irenaeus, to whom apostolic succession meant a holy life with sound doctrine. Whether these or
other church fathers of whom some fragments of writings are extent we are thankful for (Kirby,

Papias has the credit of association with Polycarp, in the friendship of St. John himself, and of
others who had seen the Lord. He is said to have been bishop of Hierapolis, in Phrygia, and to have
died about the same time that Polycarp suffered; but even this is questioned. So little do we know
of one whose lost books, could they be recovered, might reverse the received judgment, and

It was an outstanding number for a country with such a small population. The large and wide
scale conscription infuriated many of the QuГ©bГ©cois ever since they wanted no part the war,
which created a big gap between the French and English relations. The Military Service Act caused
Canada to basically split in half socially. All in all the Military Service Act solely erected more
problems than solutions to others.
Once the Military Service Act was put in place, the problems began that made the Conscription
Crisis of 1917 so significant. Almost immediately Quebec anti conscription riots broke out all
over Montreal. The province of Quebec was totally opposing the fact of serving in World War
One. The fact that forcing young men to fight and die was thought to be an outrage in Quebec.

a hero stays the same. In order to stay relevant to the times, Modern heroes, such as Robin Hood,
can appear very different from classical heroes, like Odysseus, but they will always be very skillful
with a weapon yet suffer from hubris. Therefore, Homer s The Odyssey, the 13th century Rifson

similar in the skill of archeryto outwit each of their respective enemies and hubris, a flaw which
directly aligns with glory.
Odysseus and Robin Hood are similar in many ways. For example, they are both skillful in
archery. When Odysseus finally reveals himself to the suitors, he proves his identity by
effortlessly stringing his bow. When he releases, the arrow shoots from the bow clean as a
whistle through every socket of the axes (Homer XXI. 481 482). The suitors are impressed with
his ability to perfectly string the bow and shoot it, a task many of them fail to complete. Odysseus
disguise of the old man allows him to use the element of surprise, dumbfounding the suitors, with
his ability to shoot the great bow. Odysseus then slaughters the suitors who have been drinking all
his wine, eating his food, and pursuing his wife. Similarly, Robin Hood uses his advanced skills in
archery to win the hand of the princess and beat his enemy, the sheriff. When the sheriff holds an
archery match in order

Who Is The Protagonist In The Cellar
The kidnapping The book I am reading is called The Cellar, written by Natasha Preston. The
main character in this book is a 16 year old girl named Summer. Summer lives in a small town
with her mom, dad and brother, Henry. One evening Summer wanted to meet some friends at a
club to hang out and have fun. The club is only a two minute walk from her house through the
woods and she had done it many times. She left the house in a rush, quickly saying goodbye to
her parents and boyfriend, Lewis. Never once thinking about the dangers of walking outside
alone at night. When Summer got to the club her best friend Kerri found her and asked if she d
seen their other friend Rachel in the woods because she ran off after getting upset about a boy.
Summer said she didn t see her, so they thought they should probably go look for her. After
calling Rachel s name and getting no response, Kerri and Summer decided to split up and look
for her separately. Just about the time Kerri was out of Summers sight a guy hiding behind a tree
stepped out and slowly started walking towards Summer. As he got closer he began to say come
here Lily, no need to be scared over and over again. Just as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

harder. The three girls tried to calm Summer down as best as they could and when she finally
started to listen to them they started explaining some things to her. They first told her their names,
which are Rose, Poppy and Violet. These were not their real names but the man renamed the girls
as he abducted them. They told Summer that her name was now Lily, and she must go by that

Criticism And Imagery In Richard III, By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s Richard III is an historical tragedy written in 1591. The play covers
events in the latter years of the War of the Roses (1455 1485). That war a prolonged, intermittent
conflict between the two noble houses of York and Lancaster; the play chronicles the bloody
deeds and atrocities perpetrated by its central figure the murderous and tyrannical King Richard
III. After a long war between the noble houses of York and Lancaster, England is at peace under
the ruling of King Edward IV and the victorious family of York. But Edwards s younger brother,
Richard Duke of Gloucester resents Edwards s power and the happiness of those around him.

In this metaphor, he compares conscience with a creature with many tongues. That his tongue
has a different conscience but everything condemns himself. No one believes what Richard III
says anymore, and even himself. The last imagery is, True hope is swift, and flies with swallow
s wings. (Act 5 Scene 2) Richmond compares hope to a bird. Hope with good cause is swift; it
flies as fast as a swallow. Hope that their hope would fly fast as like a swallow and it will come
true. And it did come true. Richmond killed Richard III and became the king. Richard III opens in
1483 with the title character delivering one of Shakespeare s most famous soliloquies. The first
thirteen lines establish the cheerful, optimistic mood in the kingdom now that Richard s brother,
Edward IV, has reclaimed the throne and the War of the Roses, which began in 1455, appears to
have ended. Richard sums up the situation in the first two lines of the

Writing Genre Analysis
Translating one genre into another one requires creative thinking and forces writer to adapt to the
needs of a new audience. In this assignment, I chose to translate an entertainment article into a
scientific journal. Specifically, I wanted to change the genre of an article titled Gavin Rossdale
Cheated on Gwen Stefani With the Family Nanny for Years Right Under Her Nose: Details turn it
into a scientific journal. The scientific journal will then discusses women s reaction to cheating in
relationship. I decided to do this since these two genres of writingseem to be a complete opposite.
They are opposite in a sense that entertainment journalism tend to have subjective approach with
storytelling format and informal word choices whereas scientific... Show more content on

I think the hardest part of this assignment is making sure that the article that I am translating to
reflects the characteristics of the actual genre. Although this was initially challenging, I was able
to overcome these confusion by studying more about both the magazine article and the
scientific journal and analyzing the writing conventions that each of these genres have. By
studying more about the genres and actually translating the piece myself, I was able to get a
deeper understanding of the writing choices and the purpose of these two genres. As mentioned
in Kerry Dirk s Navigating Genres article, each genre has certain characteristics or conventions
that define them (Dirk, 258). This assignment helped me understand the choices that authors
made in these two genres in order to attract their own target audience and purpose. For example, I
learned that entertainment articles like to use words such as shocking and exclusive news
because they are trying to attract readers while scientific journals prefer less of this. In addition
to using Dirk s Navigating Genres article, I also used Mike Bunn s How to Read Like a Writer
article to help me in this translating process. As explained by Bunn, when we read like a writer,
we identify some of the choices that the authors made so then we could have better understanding
of how such choices might appear in our own writing (Bunn, 22). By learning how to read like a
writer and applying it to reading the original article, I was able to notice the choices that she had
made and decide which parts of it that I would want to keep for the new translated

LSD (lysergic Acid Dyethilamide)
A Swiss chemist named Dr. Albert Hoffman first produced lysergic acid Diethylmide or best
known as LSD in 1938 (Dye, 1992, p. 2). Hoffman discovered the drug while trying to synthesize a
new drug for the treatment of headaches. He obtained the lysergic acid from the parasitic fungus
that grows on rye plants known as ergot. From the lysergic acid, he synthesized the compound
LSD. He used the compound to test for its pain killing properties on laboratory animals. Being that
appeared totally ineffective, the bottle of LSD was placed on a shelf and remained untouched for
five years.
On April 16, 1943, Dr. Hoffmandecided to do further research with the LSD compound (Dye, 1992
p. 5). While handling the drug, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first areas of LSD experimentation was in treating alcoholism (Dye, 1992, p.36). After
extensive research, it was concluded that LSD was not effective on treating alcoholism and the
research was discontinued.
LSD was also tested on schizophrenics, drug addicts and criminals (Dye, 1992 p. 38). Research
determined that LSD was ineffective in treating any behavioral problems. It was also concluded
that LSD might transform a normal individual into a person with a very calm to severe personality
problem.
The Central Intelligence Agency and various military agencies also became interested in LSD
research in the late 1950 s (Dye, 1992, p.410.) Their interest in the drug was in the area of mind
control. They saw the possibility of manipulating of manipulating the beliefs of strong willed
people. They gave the drug to a group of army scientists and then attempted to change some of their
basic beliefs while under the influence of the drug. However, one of the scientists became psychotic
and committed suicide by jumping from a hotel window. These agencies continued their research by
using drug addicts and prostitutes to test their mind control theories. After extensive
experimentation, it became apparent that LSD could alter LSD the mind but not control it. The
United States government discontinued this sort of research. Up until today, the Food and Drug
Administration have never approved LSD. This strong hallucinageous drug remains only as

How To Prevent Noise Pollution
What is Noise Pollution? Noise is essentially unwanted information or sharp changes in tones.
Noise pollution is the act of creating noise. Noise is measured in decibels: 0 decibels is silent, 0
to 70 decibels is moderate, 70 to 80 decibels is the volume where noise can start becoming
problematic. 80 to 120 decibels is considered loud noise and exposure at these levels for
extended periods can cause permeant hearing loss. Therefore it is important to reduce noise
pollution and your exposure to loud noise as much as possible. Prolonged exposure to excessive
noise can cause serious health and safety impacts: How to Prevent Noise Pollution: There are

Hepcidin And Regulation Of Iron Absorption And Homeostasis
HEPCIDIN AND REGULATION OF IRON ABSORPTION AND HOMEOSTASIS
Abstract:
The micronutrient iron is crucial for life; however, maintenance of iron homoeostasis is critical
since its deficiency or excess both leads to a pathological condition. Unlike like other nutrients, the
iron homoeostasis is regulated at the level of absorption in the intestine and not via excretion. When
the body iron store declines or when there is an increase in demand, the iron homoeostasis is
maintained by the increase in absorption and vice versa. The recent biomedical advance has
witnessed the hormone produced by liver, hepcidin as a prime regulator of iron homoeostasis by
inhibiting iron absorption; however, the regulation of the hepcidin expression is complex and
multifactorial. In this review, we explored and compared the recent advances in understanding the
regulation of hepcidin expression.
Overview of iron homoeostasis
The micronutrient iron is vital for all living organism since it is required in the various
metabolic process. The dietary requirement of iron for an average human is 1 2 milligram per
day to compensate the minor loss of iron via bleeding, menstruation or the sloughing off of
epithelial cells (Paul 2015) (figure 1). Despite its cruciality for life, iron is a double edged sword
and it is harmful in either extreme. When there is an excess iron in plasma, it binds to a low
molecular weight molecule like citrate, acetate and albumin forming non transferrin bound iron
(NTBI) which

Life s Life
Let me ask you a question.
Are you working to live, or living to work?
There was a study done, a hospital study on 100 elderly people facing death close to their last
breath. They were asked to reflect about their life s biggest regret.
Nearly all of them said they regretted not the things they did but the things they didn t do.
The chances they never took, because they were too scared, too tired, too busy, too broke.
Studies show that you will spend 92 120 hours of your life, working.
Let me say that again... you will spend 92 120 hours of your life, working.

  • 2. Nightcrawler A Sociopath Analysis It was a pleasant surprise seeing that NightCrawler was one of the film choices for this psychopathy paper, I saw it in theaters when it was originally released and it has been one of my all time favorites ever since. Even after rewatching it countless times since, the movie still never fails to keep my attention. One thing is for sure, Jake Gyllenhaal s character, Louis Bloom, is a bona fide psychopath. I will go into greater detail about the reasoning for this later, after discussing what exactly being a psychopath entails and the different traits that are used to characterize them. Believe it or not, many people in today s society cannot really distinguish between the two terms, psychopath and sociopath. Back in the early 1800s, the doctors that were working with mental patients began to realize that some of their patients who appeared outwardly normal had what they termed a moral depravity or moral insanity . These patients seemed to have no sense of the rights of other people, or even of ethics in general. The term psychopath was initially applied to these individuals around the beginning of the twentieth century. In the 1930s, the term switched to sociopath to focus more heavily on the detrimental effect that these people can have on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Sandy Hook Theory Robbie Parker, accused of being a crisis actor, also broke down on camera while speaking at a press conference. Also, Gene Rosen cried on camera while explaining his story (Stuart). The theorists can make many claims, but they do not all hold true. To continue with Crisis Actors, theorists point out family s reactions to their children s death that day. Emilie Parker, one of the twenty children killed at Sandy Hook, has people questioning if she actually passed away that day. Theorists say that her father, Robbie Parker, is seen getting into character before a press conference, which leads them to believe that he is an actor or playing the role of a grieving father (Hallowell). Before he got up to speak at the conference, he was supposedly laughing and smiling. Soon after he looked like he took a moment to compose himself and then let emotion over take himself. In a hoax video, when the clip is played of Robbie Parker doing this a line runs along the bottom of the video and reads, How many parents are laughing and joking a day after their first child has been shot? (Hallowell). The Theorists also brought Barack Obama into one of their lies. In pre shooting photograph, Emilie is pictured wearing a flowered red and black dress. After the Sandy Hook shooting there is a picture of Emilie and Barack Obama taken during Obama s visit with the families of Sandy Hook. In the picture with Obama the girl is wearing the same dress. It has been suggested that the girl in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Automatic Weapon Ban Automatic Weapon Ban July 20th, 2012, twelve are killed and fifty eight are injured at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred round magazine. An automatic weapon has no use in the United States because all sporting events, and activities with guns can be accomplished without automatic weapons. It is important because it limits the possibilities of events like the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are a good for shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. People die because of the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons should be banned in the US because they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in recreational activities. A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon because birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. A person would only need one of these shots because it has a good radius. Inside a home, it is all close quarters, which removes the use of a long range weapon like an automatic rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots a radius of projectiles to protect yourself. James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less than two percent of home invasion crimes (web). An automatic weapon would not be as efficient because it only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Difference between L and D lactic acids (Gupta et al, 2007) Synthesis of PLA and PLGA Synthesis of PLA is started through the fermentation of bacteria. There are several types of bacteria that produce L , D lactic acid or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Racing Drones Speed and Efficiency When it comes to drones, no two flights are the same. From variable wind speeds and air density to propeller count and battery output, each time you head out to the flight field, get ready to experience a new snowflake. Depending on the type of flying you re planning on doing and the type of speeds you re looking to achieve, there needs to be some consideration into the gear your drone will be running. A racing drone needs different props than a videography drone. Heavy drones need more thrust to get up and stay off the ground, while other, lighter designs require less, which means some variation in the LiPo used. Drones meant for surveying need to be efficient at low speeds, optimizing their amount of time spent airborne. For racing drones, overall efficiency at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Essay about Stewardship Around the world in Christian and secular circles we hear the word stewardship. Not only is stewardship one of the basic issues discussed in scripture, but it s also something we neglect as something we need to concentrate on while going through our own Christian walk. We live in a society that is very individualistic, concentrating on whatever will bring pleasure and make us feel good. Stewardship definitely doesn t fit into the way society is today. Before going to far into this, what exactly is stewardship? Stewardship is taking careof or managing every God given resource with an attitude of responsibility directing such resources for his intended purposes. To truly understand stewardship, we need to first look at what God says in his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There will come a day when we are going to be accountable for all our sins. Standing before Christ, we will be asked how we plead to these sins, and judgement will occur. Throughout the Bible stewardship is scattered everywhere, from the Old Testament days of Moses and Abraham to the teachings of the disciples and Paul. When one carefully studies the word of God, it is truly evident that we are to be stewards of our total self, not just time, talents, and money. God calls us to give our lives up, not just our resources. There are six separate and distinct categories when defining one s wellness. Those stages are physical, social, vocational, environmental, psychological, and spiritual. Without one the other could not exist. Physical wellness includes being physically fit, eating nutritiously, and getting adequate sleep. I consider myself to be doing well in this category. I always am in bed before midnight, and exercise at least four to five times in a week. I consider my diet to be the one thing lacking when looking deeper into my physical well being. Social wellness means having satisfying, trusting relationships and interacting well with others. I feel that this is also a strong part of my total wellness. I feel confident as well as excited to meet new people here at Cornerstone everyday. Vocational wellness is finding meaning in and satisfaction with your school, job, and leisure pursuits. • 8. The Celebration Of Womanhood By Maya Angelou The Celebration of Womanhood Women s beauty has been one of the favorite subjects of many literary works. Many genius authors have admired women s physical beauty according to their imaginations. However, their literary works, the male dominated society and the female community have also served as accomplices in creating notion about the beauty of women. In our society, it is believed that a woman should have fair skin, hourglass figure and long hair to attain the title of a beautiful woman . This notion has degraded the stature of the entire female community instead of elevating it. The revolutionary poet, Maya Angelou, tried to break this notion by writing a poem to give tribute to an average looking woman who can become trendsetter and leader in her field of interest despite of not having fair skin and the hourglass figure. In the poem Phenomenal Woman , the author urges women to be proud of them and their gender and to celebrate the womanhood instead of being ashamed of it. Maya Angelou has been regarded as an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus on her real life experiences (1). Phenomenal Woman falls into the category of poems based on the real life experiences and the human truth. The author narrates the poem as the first person which reflects how audacious personality Maya was. Being a modernist writer, Maya Angelou uses imagery to compare her physical attributes such as her smile, gesture to the worldly objects. The use of symbolism is also ... What are glial cells, and why might having more glial cells be important? Answer 1: Glial cells are cells that surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between them. Glial cells are also the most abundant cells in the central nervous system. Types of glial cells include oligodendrocytes, which have processes that form the myelin sheaths around CNS nerve fibers, astrocytes the most abundant CNS neuroglia, ependymal cells that line cerebrospinal fluid cavities, microglia cells that are the defensive cells in the CNS, schwann cells and satellite cells, which form myelin sheaths around CNS never fibers. • 12. Evolution of Human Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000 years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be. Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a society as to where we came from. The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be, is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is the science of the evolution of humans, and it is the base of all research in that field. Humans have undergone many different changes during the last hundred million years, and it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Associated with these changes is a gradual reduction in the size of the face and jaws. In early hominines, the face was large and positioned in front of the braincase. As the teeth became smaller and the brain expanded, the face became smaller and its position changed. Thus, the relatively small face of modern humans is located below, rather than in front of, the large, expanded braincase. Evidence of immediate relatives of the human species begins about five million years ago with the Australopithecus genus and leads in to the primitive Homo genus to modern humans. The nature of the human s evolution before that is uncertain, but scientists have hypothesized some ideas. What they do know is that between 7 and 20 million years ago, primitive apelike animals were widely distributed on the African and later on the Eurasian continents. Although many fossil bones and teeth have been found, the way of life of these creatures, and their evolutionary relationships to the living apes and humans, remain matters of strong disagreement among scientists. One of these fossil apes, known as Sivapithecus, appears to share many features with the living Asian great ape and the orangutan, whose direct ancestor it may well be. None of these fossils, however, offers convincing evidence of being on the evolutionary line leading to the hominid family generally. But they do help paint a picture of what early human relatives could have been like. The convincing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Red Guard Movement Essay The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009). The red guard movement can be primarily explained two different theories. The first theory is the lack of political cohesion and party factionalism among the elites starting during the Great Leap Forward, which boiled into 100 Flowers Campaign and then subsequently the Cultural Revolution (Meisner, 1999). It is the battle between these elite factions and the prohibition of dissent which resulted in the creation of the Red Guards, which in effect served as agent for the Maoist faction (Yang, 2000). The second theory would be the breakdown of societal institutions, such as education, leading up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Persuasive Essay On Internet Privacy Consumers of the Internet continually yearn for the time where there Internet privacy will be taken into consideration. Sadly, that day may never come. The Internet has become a very lucrative world with many players involved. Now that there are criminals who break into websites and steal information for personal gain, there s a huge incentive to protect consumers at all costs. Meaning there s a need to increase Internetmonitoring to ensure the protection of consumers, which violates the privacy of everyone who uses the Internet. For all the consumers of the Internet, Internet privacy should be entitled to everyone. It s virtually impossible to grant Internet privacy, when you have entities stealing and using critical and personal information. Everybody blames advertising when it comes to personal information on the Internet. That s only the tip of the iceberg. The Internet has become a very vulnerable place for hackers or people who stolen information for personal gain. According to NBC news, there was a 20 year old woman, Amy Boyer who was stalked with the help of the Internet. The hacker/killer bought Boyer s social security for $45 from a website. Boyer was murdered on Oct.15, 1999. The killer immediately committed suicide after the murder of Amy Boyer. Because of incidents like this, it s so hard to grant total privacy. Sadly, privacy concerns don t only arise from criminal activity. Ian Oxman, a well known spam fighter and privacy advocate decided to trace a car back to its previous owner. Oxman was surprised at how easy it is to track the former owner. Upon calling up the previous owner, he response is You don t know who I am but I m driving the car you sold. At the very end she says, How did you find me? Internet users are saying, How did you find me? more than they are comfortable with. The real question is, are consumer s privacy not taken seriously? It s agreed that monitoring the Internet is great for protecting valuable information, but one should not be able to track someone as easily as Oxman did. Most websites will track generic information. Websites leave cookies on your computer so that other companies could use the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An engineer is then required to set out boundaries and help in the set up of formwork, which is then erected in the shape of the panels. This includes making space for openings such as doors and windows within the design. Formwork is positioned for all panels, in a jigsaw like formation on the slab, as to allow for steady project flow. Formwork is to be created to such a height as to allow for multiple castings to be made on top of each other. The slab is then coated within formwork with a bond breaker as to allow for the most comfort when tilting up the panels. As in regular concrete construction, reinforcing is positioned where necessary. Once everything is positioned as required, concrete is then ready to be poured. When the concrete has been poured, manual labour is required to trowel for a smooth finish, either by hand or machine trowel. This can leave a smooth finish, or textured, but must be compliant with designs for consistency. With the removal of formwork, and last minute detailing to the panels, they are ready to be lifted into place. 3.2Installation/Tilt Up Process Due to

My Queer Identity Journal VI: This Semester I am thinking about every semester I have had at Brandeis so far; I feel that in every single one I earn more life lessons that I can carry with me. This semester, I have gained more empowerment in learning more about the person I am. In previous semesters, I have grasped my Latinx identity through Latin American related courses and through the exploration of its complex and vast history and culture. My immigrant identity has developed through my own experience, my awareness work in the subject, investigating more about it in classes, through my work in journalism, and my travels. There are so many different parts of me that I am constructing one by one. It is as if each brick counts as one particle of my whole me. This semester, I have been able to strongly grasp my queer identity, feeling more comfortable in my own skin, by accepting who I am and sharing it with others the people I love and who are important in my life. For sure my queer identity is the least explored brick out of the whole construction of myself. And maybe because it is an identity I cannot explore without other(s). I think that I can certainly speak about how I feel attracted to people of the same sex as mine. However, I certainly think that if I do not love someone back, how could I be sure of my queer identity? So I experienced a tidbit of love and a much too soon heartbreak, but it made me realize that, indeed, I am queer; I am proud. This semester, I have been able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Schneiderheinze Macroecomics 2 May 2015 Effects of Supply and Demand on Teachers Salaries Supply and Demand has a major effect on our economy. It effects teacher s salaries more than people think. Salaries are determined by the market forces of supply and demand. Today, schools try to focus on obtaining teachers who have a strong impact on student s learning abilities. Everyone assumes that teachers are just one group that has the same subject specialties, years of experience, and the same education credentials. People also assume that all teachers are paid the same salary and that everyone agrees how to identify an effective teacher. A higher number of effective teachers are willing to provide their skills to school districts if the wage is high than if it is low. Meaning that effective teachers are willing to work for school districts that have higher paying salaries, even if the working conditions are poor. Along with demand, a change in supply, other than wages, will shift the supply of teachers outward or inward. Outward will mean that more teachers are willing to work for a school district at any wage. An inward shift means that fewer teachers are willing to work at any wage. Increasing wages that effective teachers can command in another occupation, means that any given wage, fewer teachers will be willing to provide their teaching service. The labor market for teachers will be in equilibrium when the number of effective teachers who are willing to teach is exactly equal to the number of teachers the school district is willing to employ. Also, there is equilibrium when the quantity supplied is equal to the quantity demanded at a single wage. This is what economists call the market clearing range. Some teachers are willing to work at wages set below the market clearing wage. This creates a problem because there are not enough effective teachers willing to work under the market clearing price to meet the quantity demanded at that wage. There are however, effective teachers whose decisions of employment are based on other things, not just wage. They are not throwing out the financial obligations, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The only way to effectively integrate sustainable solutions broadly is to examine small scale successful measures in living laboratories, and to then implement those more widely and efficiently. This allows greater regions to tailor and adapt solutions to fit into their community. There needs to be integration on all levels of society and among the various stakeholders in order to have any hope of restricting warming to 1.5 2 degrees Celsius, therefor limiting the disastrous potential impacts. The main difference between the network data model and the hierarchical data model, is that in the network model a child could have a many to many relationship with its parent entity. Similarly, just like the network data model, the hierarchical data model is simple and easy to design. The main limitation of record based data models like the network and hierarchical is they do not provide adequate facilities for explicitly specifying constraints on the data (Connolly 2009). The characters were driven with fear: the assassins who killed Trujillo and Urania who recalled her experiences at her young during her encounter with Trujillo. For example, in chapter twelve, Salvador spoke with Father Fortin about his mission to kill Trujillo. On one hand, there was a side of him knowing the consequences of caring out the assassination and as he put it, wondering once he killed a man if he would go to hell. On the other hand, there was a side of him that drove him into understanding why Trujillo had to die. During his conversation with Father Fortin, he spoke of Trujillo and his actions: What they re doing to the bishops, to the churches, that disgusting campaign television, on the radio, in the papers (LLosa 184). He knew right away that he had to cut off the hydra s head (184). Upon the issue regarding Urania, she and her Aunt Adelina recall her father Agustin Cabral (Egghead) and about the letter in The Public Forum that lead to her dad falling into disgrace. • 37. The Short Term Mission Trips Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and every day. As Americans we have an urge to go into these countries to help as much as possible because of that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the 1960s but did not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters, Americans saw and need and went, since then short term missiontrips show no sign stopping anytime soon. As the popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with the way the trips are led to the extent of questioning whether or not these trips are really worth the amount of money and time that they consume. Through periodicals, interviews, narratives, and articles, I will show the issues and improvements that could be made to the living situations, attitude of the Americans, and relationships that are acquired during the short term mission trips. In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch slammed onto the coasts of multiple South American countries. Countless people lost their homes, over eleven thousand people lost their lives, and the hurricane left five billion dollars worth of damage in its wake ( Hurricane Mitch ). This event caused a new wave of events also of short term mission trips. Americans seeing the cities torn to shreds decided to act. For a couple of weeks at a time, different groups would go clean up, rebuild, and show love to the people of these devastated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Case Study Introduction On November 14, 2000 Olav Larsson, Managing Director of Sunwind, eased back in his seat as his A380 climbed away from Tokyo s Narita Airport to begin the 17 hour flight to Gothenburg, Sweden. He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan where he had visited factories of Nissan and Mazda as well as a number of their parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that Sunwind should initiate a proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor lids1 be made directly onto its 700 series automobile assembly lines at Torslanda, near Gothenburg, Kalmer, a port city on Sweden s east cost, and at Ghent in Belgium. Lars estimated Sunwind s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had hired an additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a numerically controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts. Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the gluing machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate pieces which made up a floor lid. Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the world wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320 suppliers, while Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of suppliers; pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily newspapers, did not help his peace of mind. • 39. Analysis Of Everett Feruson s Church History Essay Everett Feruson in Church History does a spendid work in coursing through church history until the 13th century. Ferguson s writing keeps the reader captivated, being witty at times, but overall being very helpful, for example in defining the term simplex of Charles the Simple to mean without guile. This is notable for he covers a wide swath of history with a life differing from ours while including a review of culture, architecture and politics. His descriptions vividly portrait the faithfulness and the struggles of the church. This strife was also within the church as striving in doctrine occurred, two important areas were the fight against docetiscism and addressing sins occurring after baptism. We appreciate the value of the installed leaders such as Ignatius and Irenaeus, to whom apostolic succession meant a holy life with sound doctrine. Whether these or other church fathers of whom some fragments of writings are extent we are thankful for (Kirby, 2016) such as Polycarp and Papias. Papias has the credit of association with Polycarp, in the friendship of St. John himself, and of others who had seen the Lord. He is said to have been bishop of Hierapolis, in Phrygia, and to have died about the same time that Polycarp suffered; but even this is questioned. So little do we know of one whose lost books, could they be recovered, might reverse the received judgment, and establish his claim to the disputed tribute which makes him, like Apollos, an eloquent man, and ... • 40. Conscription in World War Two Essay The act of applying conscription during the First and Second World Wars have nearly torn Canada apart. The conscription crisis of 1917 was a treacherous event that occurred during the First World War. During this time the relations between Quebec and the rest of Canada were in an all time low in our Canadian history. The QuГ©bГ©cois thought conscriptionwas merely unnecessary no matter what circumstance; while all other Canadians did essentially want conscription occur. Once the Military Service Act was put in place, the problems began that made the Conscription Crisis of 1917 so significant. Almost immediately Quebec anti conscription riots broke out all over Montreal. The province of Quebec was totally opposing the fact of serving in World War One. The fact that forcing young men to fight and die was thought to be an outrage in Quebec. Never minding the fact that the Canadian Corps was nearly in Complete English. • 41. Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Robin Hood Throughout history, no matter the number of times heroes change, the foundation of what makes a hero stays the same. In order to stay relevant to the times, Modern heroes, such as Robin Hood, can appear very different from classical heroes, like Odysseus, but they will always be very skillful with a weapon yet suffer from hubris. Therefore, Homer s The Odyssey, the 13th century Rifson ballad, and Pyle s The Merry Adventures of Robin Hooddepict that Odysseus and Robin Hood are similar in the skill of archeryto outwit each of their respective enemies and hubris, a flaw which directly aligns with glory. Odysseus and Robin Hood are similar in many ways. For example, they are both skillful in archery. When Odysseus finally reveals himself to the suitors, he proves his identity by effortlessly stringing his bow. When he releases, the arrow shoots from the bow clean as a whistle through every socket of the axes (Homer XXI. 481 482). The suitors are impressed with his ability to perfectly string the bow and shoot it, a task many of them fail to complete. Odysseus disguise of the old man allows him to use the element of surprise, dumbfounding the suitors, with his ability to shoot the great bow. Odysseus then slaughters the suitors who have been drinking all his wine, eating his food, and pursuing his wife. Similarly, Robin Hood uses his advanced skills in archery to win the hand of the princess and beat his enemy, the sheriff. When the sheriff holds an archery match in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the hardest part of this assignment is making sure that the article that I am translating to reflects the characteristics of the actual genre. Although this was initially challenging, I was able to overcome these confusion by studying more about both the magazine article and the scientific journal and analyzing the writing conventions that each of these genres have. By studying more about the genres and actually translating the piece myself, I was able to get a deeper understanding of the writing choices and the purpose of these two genres. As mentioned in Kerry Dirk s Navigating Genres article, each genre has certain characteristics or conventions that define them (Dirk, 258). This assignment helped me understand the choices that authors made in these two genres in order to attract their own target audience and purpose. For example, I learned that entertainment articles like to use words such as shocking and exclusive news because they are trying to attract readers while scientific journals prefer less of this. In addition to using Dirk s Navigating Genres article, I also used Mike Bunn s How to Read Like a Writer article to help me in this translating process. As explained by Bunn, when we read like a writer, we identify some of the choices that the authors made so then we could have better understanding of how such choices might appear in our own writing (Bunn, 22). By learning how to read like a writer and applying it to reading the original article, I was able to notice the choices that she had made and decide which parts of it that I would want to keep for the new translated ... Hoffman discovered the drug while trying to synthesize a new drug for the treatment of headaches. He obtained the lysergic acid from the parasitic fungus that grows on rye plants known as ergot. From the lysergic acid, he synthesized the compound LSD. He used the compound to test for its pain killing properties on laboratory animals. Being that appeared totally ineffective, the bottle of LSD was placed on a shelf and remained untouched for five years. • 48. Hepcidin And Regulation Of Iron Absorption And Homeostasis HEPCIDIN AND REGULATION OF IRON ABSORPTION AND HOMEOSTASIS Abstract: The micronutrient iron is crucial for life; however, maintenance of iron homoeostasis is critical since its deficiency or excess both leads to a pathological condition. Unlike like other nutrients, the iron homoeostasis is regulated at the level of absorption in the intestine and not via excretion. When the body iron store declines or when there is an increase in demand, the iron homoeostasis is maintained by the increase in absorption and vice versa. The recent biomedical advance has witnessed the hormone produced by liver, hepcidin as a prime regulator of iron homoeostasis by inhibiting iron absorption; however, the regulation of the hepcidin expression is complex and multifactorial. In this review, we explored and compared the recent advances in understanding the regulation of hepcidin expression. Overview of iron homoeostasis The micronutrient iron is vital for all living organism since it is required in the various metabolic process. The dietary requirement of iron for an average human is 1 2 milligram per day to compensate the minor loss of iron via bleeding, menstruation or the sloughing off of epithelial cells (Paul 2015) (figure 1). Despite its cruciality for life, iron is a double edged sword and it is harmful in either extreme. When there is an excess iron in plasma, it binds to a low molecular weight molecule like citrate, acetate and albumin forming non transferrin bound iron (NTBI) which ...
