A Separate Peace By John Knowles Essay
In A Separate Peace, a realistic fictional novel by John Knowles, World War 2 gradually
encroaches upon and finally dominates life at Devon. The War is an ever present focus, if not
focus then presence, that fell upon the students of Devon. That was the whole point wasn t it?
Train hard in a boarding school to prepare for war. The war impinged itself upon the school
through the boys views, jargon, and also was brought to the school. World War II infringed
Devon through the boys views. This can be found throughout the book, A Separate Peace.
However, it can be expressed best by a quote found on page 15. It states, We were not even Upper
Middler exactly. For this was the Summer Session, just established to keep up with the pace of
the war. We were in shaky transit that summer from the groveling status of Lower Middlers to
the near respectability of Upper Middlers. The class above, seniors, draft bait, practically
soldiers, rushed ahead of us toward the war. They were caught up in accelerated courses and first
aid programs and a physical hardening regimen, which included jumping from this tree. We were
still calmly, numbly reading Virgil and playing tag in the river farther downstream. Until Finny
thought of the tree. (Knowls) The representative quote above signifies how the war has invaded
the boys views in multiple ways. It shows this through the tree, instead of seeing it as simply what
it is, it was viewed as a training device. Additionally, being draft bait is

Building A Waddell A-Truss Bridge
Building a Waddell A Truss Bridge
Introduction:
Bridges have been used for thousands of years, beginning with natural formations, such as huge
rock arches (Appendix A). The first bridges made by humans were most likely simple spans of
wooden tree trunks laid across streams, or planks, such as rafts tied together (Gascoigne, 2001).
These simple designs evolved over time, as new materials became available, to form the hundreds
of bridges we use today. Some basic bridge designs include truss, arch, beam and suspension
bridges. The most basic of these is the beam bridge (Appendix B1), which consists of a deck,
spanning a relatively short distance, that is held up by a pair of abutments (vertical supports at
either end). When weight is placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that it excessively designed, and can create excessive burdens on the cost, size and
complexity (Sade, 2014). When designing large bridges, these three factors (excessive cost, size
and complexity) regulate if a bridge is built, or if a different design is chosen. The Waddell A
truss bridge (Appendix C) is a truss bridge designed by engineer John Alexander Low Waddell. It
was built in 1898, as a short span railway bridge, and is one of only two bridges remaining which
had the A truss design. Due to its high trusses, it is quite rigid in all directions, and it is easily
erected as it has a simple design (Syazwi, 2013). These are some of the reasons why the Waddell
a truss design was chosen. It is simple to create out of the materials which can be used (Manila
folders) as it consists of beams and bars, as well as some gusset plates (Appendix C). Not only
this, but the design allows it to hold quite a large amount of weight, in spite of the fact that a
folder is not necessarily strong. However when folded, it may be surprising how much a small
piece of card can actually hold. Manila folders were used to create this bridge because they are
inexpensive, easy to cut bend and glue, have surprisingly predictable structural behaviour and can
be used to build tubes, bars and strong

History Of Motorcycles And Rider Freedom
History of Motorcycles
Motorcycles offer the rider freedom. The open road stretches in front of you. They offer
freedom from the rest of the world; you are not going to be bothered by your ringing cell phone
or the everyday stress of life. They give you the chance to feel like the wind is pulling you
through the universe. There is nothing in this world that gives you the same feeling of the
elements of skin, the road beneath your feet, and the freedom to go wherever your heart desires.
Motorcycles are addictive. They are not a mode of transportation; they are a way of life.
In The Beginning
In 1967 the concept of a motorcycle was born. It was not a typical motorcycle that we have now
days. It was powered by steam that came from coal. It was the first of the steam engines. They
were a little bulky, and did not go very fast. Although it was bulky, it still holds the same basic
concepts of a motorcycle.
There is a moment in history where the bicycle collided with the gas engine. This moment was
in 1885. A German man by the name of Gottlieb Daimler placed a gas powered engine , created
by Nicolaus Otto, onto a wooden frame. This first cycle was not built for the speed like the
models available to us, but you can imagine that they still offered quite a bit of freedom for the
rider. It still would have had the feeling of the open road, a concept that was completely new to
humans.
The term motor cycle actually came from an English print that promoted the machines that were

Water Fluoridation Must Stop Essay
Fluoride compounds have been added to water supplies since as early as the 1950s because
claims were made to support fluoride s use as a cavity preventer. However, studies conducted even
decades before have shown that fluoride is an extremely hazardous substance that should be
completely avoided. These views or claims about fluorideare just too contradictory, both cannot be
true. Fluoride has hidden dangers that not enough people know about and should be removed from
the water supplies despite false reports that it is actually beneficial, and the practice of water
fluoridationshould be completely eliminated.
First a little bit about fluoride needs to be known. These are the unarguable facts about fluoride.
Fluoride is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally fluoridated areas preceded the field trials since fluoride occurs naturally in some areas.
(Oral) Communities with naturally occurring fluoride in water supplies were chosen for the trials,
because results could be seen in these communities without so many years of testing. The studies
showed that fluoride reduces dental caries to some extent depending on the amount of ingestion.
These positive results lead to water fluoridation becoming a popular practice throughout civilized
areas of the world. Putting a substance like fluoride in municipal water supplies is a good way to
medicate many people at a time, since everybody drinking from the water supply would have a
constant intake of fluoride. The big advantage of water fluoridation is that it benefits all residents in
a community regardless of age, socio economic status, education or employment. (Kirshen)
The number one purpose for water fluoridation is for the promotion of healthy and strong teeth. As
it turns out fluoride doesn t even help with teeth, in fact it causes many problems with their
formation. According to Dean Murphy DDS in his book The Devil s Poison: Fluorotic enamel is
more porous and structurally weaker having a wear resistance that is commonly 40% to 60% of
normal. (Murphy 57) This is because fluoride interferes with collagen producing enzymes leaving a
faulty matrix for minerals to accumulate and crystallize. (Murphy 57) All pro fluoride advocates

San Diego Water Crisis
Leonardo da Vinci, famous artist, engineer, philosopher, and scientist, once said, Water is the
driving force of all nature. Water is one of, if not the most valuable resource for all life. Although
71% of the Earth is water, only 2.5% of it is fresh and safe for human consumption. Despite
previously being considered a renewable resource, water is becoming scarce, especially in
California. As more and more water is disappearing, California is struggling to find a solution to its
unprecedented drought. Solutions thus far imported water, desalination, and ridiculous restrictions
on use have not made a significant enough impact. However, a new, revolutionary resolution has
appeared: potable water. Potable, or recycled, water is water... Show more content on

The Pure Water project, a project that plans to construct three recycling plants to produce San
Diego s water supply, only requires $3.5 billion to get started inexpensive in comparison to the
amount of money it takes to import, partially purify, and desalinate water. An example of the
ever growing expense of imported water can be found in the article Council unanimously
approves purifying sewage into drinking water , which was published to UT San Diego on
November 18, 2014. In this informational article, author David Garrick states, Councilman
Scott Sherman said San Diego must fight back against sharply rising costs of imported water.
Potable water is the best way to combat the increasing prices of imported water. Rather than
relying on water from the Colorado River San Diego s main supplier existing water can be
purified and reused. In the same article, it is also stated that, In addition, recycling wastewater...
would allow the city to avoid spending about $2.1 billion in upgrades needed at the Point Loma
Wastewater Treatment Plant (Garrick). As mentioned in the quotation, San Diego is already
spending generous amounts of money on water. This can be remedied, however, with the
implication of potable water, which costs significantly less. Another one of San Diego s pricey
water sources is desalination. Desalination is the high cost, high energy process of purifying salt
water to make it drinkable. In the nonfiction article OC Coastkeeper: San Diego Swindled By
Desalination, Don t Let OC Be Next , published on February 3, 2016 to voiceofoc.org by author
Ray Hiemstra, it is stated that, San Diego is forced to pay for the most expensive water on the
market whether they need it or not , in reference to the desalination plant managed by

In Some Manner, It Would Be Strenuous To Realize All Of
In some manner, it would be strenuous to realize all of the goals, such as removing distortions to
international trade and promoting technological innovation and the transfer and dissemination of
technology in the Preamble and other provisions. To be specific, technology transfer was introduced
in article 7 of the TRIPS Agreement. Article 7 stipulates: protection and enforcement of intellectual
property rights should contribute to the promotion of technological innovationand to the transfer and
dissemination of technology. However, the scope and language of this provision are quite vague
and extensive, whereas many formal or informal institutions, such as pre grant disclosure and post

Except for the machinery industry, there was little difference regarding willingness to transfer
technology in other industries. Policy transparency, quality of human capital, and market size are
very important factors of FDI, while the degree of IPR protection is only one of them. Failure to
work a patent failure to work a patent might be discussed under the context of article 7 of the TRIPS
Agreement, as Professor Gervais indicates. A number of supporters of the local working
requirement argue if the patentee would be entitled to a territorial legal monopoly, she should to
contribute to the development of the industry in that territory as an act of reciprocity. Nonetheless,
K. McCabe explains the reason why defining the working requirement would be a burden for
transnational companies. If comprehensively every country requires local working as one of the
requirements for granting a patent, then exportation to a new foreign market means to establish a
manufacturing facility in the country. Defining local working as a requirement therefore constitutes
an unnecessary burden for a foreign patentee to build manufacturing facilities in all the signatories
of TRIPS who have legislation as such. For this reason, the grounds for granting compulsory
licenses should be limited to countries with a lower standard of technology

History Of Beer Brewing Beer And The Styles Of Beer Essay
Introduction
This paper is intended to review the history of brewing beer, the differences between the
breweries, the trends, the process and ingredients used in brewing beer and the styles of beer.
Detailed information will be discussed on how to adequately serve beer with food and how to
compliment them together to make them appealing to the public. Beer was invented many centuries
ago and was first known as a homemaker skill. Over the years beer has become very popular and
technology has made the process of brewing beer less complex and more flavorful allowing for
extreme success in the brewing industry.
Analysis
The history of beer is an extensive one, the actual timing and individual that invented beer is
unknown. It is estimated that beer was created by accident over 5,000 years ago. Hard evidence
of beer production dates back about 5,000 years to the Sumerians of ancient Mesopotamia
(Andrews, 2014.) The concoction to create beer was stumbled upon when bread and wheat got
wet and because water was usually contaminated beer became the preferred beverage. Beer is
primarily made up of malt extract, yeast, hops, and water (Flowers, 2014) these ingredients add the
syrup taste, sweetness, and different flavors to the beer while it is being brewed.

Starbucks was bought out by current CEO Howard Schultz in 1987. Since then, Andrew Harrer

Fortune (n.d.) reports in its yearly 100 Best Companies to Work for that Starbucks employs some
95,000 employees . From only a handful of stores in 1987 to a billion dollar franchise today, the
success of Starbucksis due in great deal to their corporate culture, specifically how employees, or
as Starbucks calls them, partners are treated. Joseph Michelli (2007) echoes this sentiment, A great

If their employees are happy, their employees create better experiences for their customers. This
creative approach to the management of people shows. Michelli (2007) highlights that the
turnover rate at Starbucks is much lower than at other similar establishments, 120 percent less
than the industry average (p. 282). He further goes on to mention that employees have an 82%
job satisfaction rate (p. 282). This deep desire to treat employees fairly stems from Schultz s
ideals. He himself mentions, As a business leader, my quest has never been just about winning or
making money; it has also been about building a great, enduring company, which has always
meant trying to strike a balance between profit and social conscience (Schultz, p. 107). Many
believe his deep sense of empathy stems from his early childhood where his father was ill and
could not hold a job. This is reflected today in his treatment of his employees. All

time there as a young and ambitious man. From there, he began to grow into a man who knew the
way to truly teach his students would be to create a feeling of mutual love between the two

Project Management Process
Projects are composed of process. A process is a series of action bringing about a result . Project
processes are performed by people and generally fall into one of two major categories:
1.Project management processes are concerned with describing and organizing the work of the
project.
2.Product oriented processes are concerned with specifying and creating the project product. These
processes are known as project life cycle.
It is important to note that many of the processes within project management are iterative in nature.
This is mainly due to the existence of and the necessity for progressive elaboration in a project
throughout the project life cycle. This means that the more you know about your project, the better
you are able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Project cost management
This is also a key element of project management. It is important to manage a project within its
budget. Underspending can be as dangerous as overspending. Good planning and paying close
attention to spending money carefully will mean that you can achieve all the goals you set for your
project.
4. Project quality management
This aspect is more relevant in fields like construction, where the builders have to make sure that all
technical specifications are met to a high standard. But it is important when delivering projects in
the community that you do so to the best of your ability.
5. Project human resource management
You need to make sure that you identify the skills you will need for the project. Make sure you
use the skills of the people working on the project in the most effective way possible. Project
teams also need to work together effectively. There are tools to help you to do this. There are also
ways of thinking about people and the day today dynamics that will affect your project. These tools
are included later in the notebook.
6. Project communication management
It is useful to plan how you will communicate with stakeholders, donors and the project team. This
will ensure that the project is implemented in a smooth manner.
7. Project risk management
There is always the possibility that things might go wrong during a project. It helps to think at

A Diglossic Situation is where two varieties of a language co exist within one society or
community. Both varieties are used in this community and is used based on different situations.
Diglossic situations occur where both languages are either termed a high or low variety. Selecting
an official/national language can be difficult for a country that has many language and has had a
colonial past and can stir up social situation. An example of a diglossic situation is in India, where

This example can be seen as an diglossic situation because Hindi and English are two varieties of a
language that co exist within India and both languages have a determined high and low variety
where English is considered the high variety because of its use in government, education, business,
and entertainment and Hindi being the low variety because of its lower prestige.
A Race/Ethnicity Based Dialect is a characteristics of a particular group of language speakers
applying to their speech patterns based on their ethnic/cultural subgroup. An example of race
/ethnicity based dialect is standard Australian English. Australian English derived from British
English and was recognized as being different from British English in the early 1800s after founding
the colony of New South Wales. It is the dialect of Australian born citizens as well as migrants who
arrived during childhood ( Ethnocultural Voices ). The children of immigrant families in Australia
adopt the speech patterns of the country they reside in rather from their parents because of they
want to conform to their peers. Multiculturalism in Australia came from immigration from Asia and
the Middle East that contributes to Australia s vast cultural diversity and expression of cultural
identity in Australia. Australian born children are able to experience and embrace the cultural
heritage and express their identities through their Australian Ethnocultural dialects ( Ethnocultural

What Is The Relationship Between Mother Courage And Her...
The titular character in Mother Courage and Her Children illuminates an important idea when
considering a character s actions in a time of languishing prosperity. Yet, the characters pivotal
actions catalyze the fatality of her three children and in turn represent how morals, in times of
survival, waver; the results of tough choices are harsh judgements. Bertolt Brecht, the playwright,
uses his innovative approach to theatre to force the audience to detach themselves from their
common knowledge of what theatre is and how it chews over hot button issues. He alienates his
audience to create a chance to question personal attitudes in regards to the wide spectrum of ideas

Examples Of Pride In The Iliad
In his telling of The Iliad, Homer introduces us to one of the demigods, Akhilleus. Akhilleus was
born by the goddess, Thetis, daughter to Poseidon and to the human, Peleus. His position is as
commander of the entire Greek army. At the start of this war, between the Akhaians and the
Trojians, there was a falling out between him and the Greek king, Agamemnon. In short, he
ended up packing his bags and leaving the army without a commander. Pride was the cause of
this whole quarrel. This pride of his was the center of many improprieties during the war. A
feeling that you respect yourself and deserve to be respected by other people (definition of
pride) This first example may have occurred near the end of the book, but it is going to be used
first. Akhilleus pride was the direct cause for the need to withhold and torture Hektor s body after
he killed him. (The Iliad, 22.410 421, 24.14 27) This event caused him to act inhumanely, no
matter the reason. This action also prevented Hektor s family from having a proper funeral. Said
Akhilleus: Let it be so. Let someone bring the ransom and the dead away, if the Olympian
commands this in his wisdom. (24.63 66) Later he allowed Hektor s body to be taken away.... Show

According to the poem, I Was a Skinny Tomboy Kid by Alma Luz Villanueva, in order to truly
find freedom, one must believe in their own myth , transform their reality , and create a

avoid being weak, like her mother was. As the poem shifts from the past to the present, she
realizes that there is much more to identity than pretending to be something she is not. Villanueva
s uses literary devices, the expression of freedom, and the transition of verb tenses to prove the
power of accepting one s identity. Throughout the poem, the author uses assonance and similes to

At first, the character says with my fists clenched into tight balls (3 4) to describe what she used

This suggests that she has finally figured out that a motherly or female figure still has great

how much power a female figure holds. This portrays the internal growth she has made as time

Levi Jordan Plantation Essay
The Plantation
The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because
of mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins,
rings, bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal
bones, wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to
the hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake
clay and for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet
molds, metal tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there
were children there. The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and
it s much harder to hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make
the bullets the right shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on
the plantation led people to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting.

How Did Malthus Build Food Production In The Ottoman Empire
Growth and Food Production in the Ottoman Empire
In his 1798 Essay on the Principle of Population, Thomas Malthus defended the proposition that,
had population and food increased in the same ratio, it is probable that man might never have
emerged from the savage state. Labeled a Malthusian trap after the demographer s work, the
theoretical principle holds that, because population increases exponentially, while agricultural
output increases arithmetically, periodic premature deaths among the population will be caused by
a lack of sustenance. Had a population never overcome the reoccurring demographic trap of an

of the Ottoman Empire, the relationship between changes in population density and agricultural

the latter. In order to address whether or not Malthus s claim that

stayed with her all night. In the morning the girl was gone and King Arthur was sad again. One
day after King Arthur was done fighting, he went to sleep at another castle. Then he heard a
strange noise and followed it and saw a beautiful woman. The next day he asked the girl s father
for her hand in marriage. He agreed and they were married the next day.
King Arthur and his knights fought in many battles. King Arthur had a round table built for him
and his knights. The reason he had a round table built was to show the knights that everyone was
equal and that nobody was better than anybody else not even Arthur. The source I used http:/

This will make it easier for clients to buy from TRO relative to their competition. This scenario of
course assumes that TRO offers superior products to their competition.
TRO by default will increase the number of units sold if they are able to increase the number of
clients and frequency of purchase. But they can also increase the number of units sold by
understanding how to add value. For example TRO can offer existing clients some discount say
20% if they buy more volume or let clients have their products and let them pay later.
2.2SWOT Analysis
We have ascertained the three things above that must happen before growth can occur be it in
territories that TRO currently have sales people or territories like Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Denver
and California that Steve is looking to move into.
Steve has to perform a SWOT analysis on the current territories he has sales people to consolidate
before looking to expand to other territories.
What are TRO strengths in the nine territories east of the Mississippi river? Can these strengths
be duplicated in the new territories they want to enter? For example TRO is known for its service
and ability to provide specialized products and not price. So Steve has to be sure that in the new
territories they will find customers that value

Little Foxes Analytical Essay
Every play written uses dramatic elements. The main dramatic elements are plot, character, theme,
and language. Lillian Hellman, who wrote the Little Foxes, incorporates these elements beautifully
in her play. The play is set during the spring of 1900 and takes place in the Deep South part of the
United States of America. Just as every other play, the Little Foxeshas included the dramatic
elements in her play, particularly the plot, character, and language that all incorporate an underlying
theme of greed.
The character, which includes the physiological and psychological makeup of each person in the
play, properly incorporated the greed and oppression of the time. Ben and Oscar are brothers who

There were also two servants in the house, whose parts although small, added a real sense of the
racial conflict of the time. These characters were perfectly created with their physiological and
psychological attributes that added the extra tension for the time. Horace and Regina also had a
daughter. Her name was Alexandra. Her character was also built really well, except that she was
too passive and did not react as well as she should have while Regina mentally destroyed Horace.
Lastly, there is the brief appearance of the character named Mr. Marshall. This character although
very small was created extremely well. Just like Ben and Oscar, he had only one thing on his
mind. Although his ulterior motive was greed, he hid that very well while he pretended to have a
good time making friends with the family. Then when it came down to business, he was very keen
and right to the point. Greed.
Not only are the characters created exceptionally well, but the plot of the Little Foxes was also
very beautifully planed out and written with the underlying theme of greed showing up throughout
it. This is a major strength of the play. This play takes place in a little picturesque home in the
South of the US with a prosperous but oppressive family during the spring of 1900. This is where
the tension starts to build. The play starts out with a family gathering. The audience finds out at the
end of this gathering that Ben s ambition is to erect a

My Childhood Journey
I spent most of my childhood traveling the world. What a way to spend a childhood tell you, I
am the person I am today because of the places I have been, the opportunities I have had, and the
people I have met. I can not even remember the abundant number of times I have been woken up
at four am to leave for the airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into
the car. I remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I d first step
foot on the aircraft. Taking in a big breath of the airplane air that would always burn through my
nose and make me slightly nauseous. Over the years I have learned to hold my breath or to
breathe out of my mouth until I got to my seat. These are the same memories I relive every time
I begin a new adventure. As a kid I thought being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize
or Grand Turk was normal; or that every other weekend every kid went to New York for the day
to have lunch and do some light shopping then fly home that night. It was not until one day with
my twin sister sitting in the seat next to me that I realized we were not like most kids. The flight
attendant had bent down in between my sister and I as she quietly asked us if our parents had
died. At twelve years old I was shocked and left speechless. She went on to ask us why we were in
school and it flourished into a whole conversation about our trip. This was the same plane ride
where I had one of the most interesting conversations to

Social Media Disadvantages
Social media, or social network is defined by Dictionary.com as an online community of people
with a common interest who use a website or other technologies to communicate with each other
and share information, resources, etc. Social media has become one of the most popular used
forms of electronic communication. It allows users ranging from various age groups to connect
and interact with each other from all across the world. Today, the younger generation can utilize
social media as a useful tool. Younger users can access these networks to communicate and
create new friends, access up to date information and events, and use them as a form of
entertainment. However, social media has some disadvantages that can impact younger users.
Social media can affect younger users by being addictive, impacting education, and can pose
dangerous threats. First, younger users can become addicted to social media. In the 21st
century, technology has and still is evolving. Unlike some of the previous generations, it is
common today to see a child interacting with a mobile device. This allows them to have access
to social media websites and apps. Critics believe that social media can be positive, [enabling]
more young people to be creative and innovative (Austin). However, becoming more active with
social media activity can lead into an addiction. For instance, on popular websites and apps such
as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, users have a popular feature called the like button allowing
them to show their support towards different content. For teens, gaining a high number of likes can
illustrate popularity, increasing self esteem. On the other hand, this could lead into an addiction
among individuals. In a brain scan study by Lauren Sherman, lead author of the brain study and
researcher at UCLA, claimed that one of the reasons that teens are such active users on social
media is that they re really sensitive to these likes (Almendrala). Consequently, a user addiction for
likes on social media can impact an individual s self esteem, and lead into time wasted on social
media by the individual. Furthermore, connecting into effecting education. Second, social media
can affect younger user s education. With the access to

The Role of Perceived Outcome and Process-Oriented...
Summary
Introduction
Objective of this study is to provide a critical review of a research paper titled Implementing
Changes in Marketing Strategy: The Role of Perceived Outcome and Process Oriented Supervisory
Actions . (Sarin, et al, 2012).The authors investigate the influence of supervisors in implementing
changes in the marketing strategy. The focus of the paper reveals the strategy sales supervisors use
in influencing salespeople in implementing strategy marketing changes within organizations. The
authors further argue that firms periodically need to change their marketing strategies to achieve
technological development and generate opportunities. Typically, development in technologies
necessitates firms to formulate changes in the marketing strategies to capture opportunities from
the new technologies. To capture opportunities from the technological changes, firm often use their
frontline employees such as supervisors to influence their salespeople to get customers to transact
business using internet platform rather than offline method to purchase goods.
Theoretical Framework: The authors formulate stress theory and change management theory to
provide greater understanding on the challenges sales supervisors could encounter in convincing
salespeople to advise their customers to use online method to purchase products rather than from
salespeople. (Lafferty,et al 2006). Typically, salespeople may be reluctant to implement the changes

Spoon River Poetry Analysis
The 1915 poetry collection, Spoon River Anthology, by Edgar Lee Masters, offers a portrait of
daily life in a fictional Illinois town, Spoon River. As is evident from the poems Spoon River was
an economic boom town which profited greatly from its proximity to rail roads and a major
waterway. Regardless of its prosperity, Spoon Riverseems to have remained a demographically
small town, and the neighbors all knew each other very well, and a clear social hierarchy formed.
One of the more interesting aspects of the Spoon River Anthologyis that the poems contained
therein are a series of grave epitaphs that tell a story about each deceased resident. Often,
graveyards themselves can serve as reminders of social hierarchies in the world of the living.
Typically, only those decedents who had family members and a community who cared for them
would be laid to rest in the community grave; the potter s field and the crematorium awaited those
who passed away without family, in debt, or with a criminal record. Thus, the initial assessment of
the deceased within the Spoon River graveyard would be that they were
good people in their lives.
Indeed, many of the epitaphs depict the decedents as moral, hardworking, and decent people.
However, when cross referencing the epitaphs from each citizen, it becomes clear that the
prominent members of Spoon River were incredibly corrupt in their day to day behavior.
Ultimately, Masters explores ethics in Spoon River Anthology by studying the fine

Computer Aided Drafting unlocks the door to numerous opportunities for employment; I selected
Computer Aided Drafting because it s so extraordinary with AutoCAD, because of the uses of

opportunities that are obtainable. First off, CAD is computer technology that has contributed in

The prehistoric technique of undertaking drafting application was on paper with a pencil and it
required an extensive amount of time. They used a drafting table with rulers and templates to
draw the most detailed view they could. Technology in Computer Aided Design applications has
transformed and evolved to have numerous applications. For example; my dad used CAD in
construction and remodeling. Remodeling kitchens and bathrooms with CAD was an enormous
necessity because the customer received an enhanced 3 D detailed view. They also use CAD for
architectural structures, roads, aircraft, ships, cars, digital cameras, TVs, aerospace, clothes, custom
choppers, mobile phones, and even for landscaping. While history of CAD starts out with a
mathematician called Euclid from Alexandria in 350 B.C. CAD groundwork is established on
geometry with postulates and axioms. Drafting took abundant of hours to draw and if we made a
miscalculation we would have to start all over. Next Sketchpad was invented in the 1960s by Ivan
Sutherland. Sketchpad was predominantly ground breaking CAD software because the architect

Superbowl Essay
The Story of The NFL Shop Family The Superbowl is one of the most widely watched television
events in the nation every year. Unlike many other sporting events, the Superbowl is not
watched by fans of the sport alone, but by just about anyone with access to a television. Growing
up, my brother was the only avid sports fan in the house, but every year the whole family would
crowd around the TV to watch The Superbowl. My brother excluded, we did this not out of real
interest for the sport of Football, but because we wanted to see all of the brand new (and
hopefully emotionally arousing) commercials that air during the Superbowl. Through the years,
the Superbowl has actually become known for this aspect. Recently certain websites have even
began holding an annual ranking for the best and worst Superbowl commercials each year.
Though I wasn t particularly interested in the Superbowl last year, one commercial still stands
out to me almost eight months later. It is a commercial for nflshop.com, and it seems to convey
the story of a family that begins as Vikings fans but over time expands into a family of Vikings,
Bengals, Eagles, Steelers, and Cowboys fans. Depending on the viewer s perspective on the
commercial, in its short 30 second duration the advertisement either tells the story of a touching
progressive family molded by life experiences or of a very noncommittal family with various
impractical team affiliations. Either by alienation or affection the commercial conveys a very

Sleep Analysis Essay On Sleep
Sleep Analysis As we learned in lecture, sleep is an important component in improving a person
s overall health. Because sleep is vital for cognitive function and available time to spend
sleeping is limited for college students, like myself, it is advantageous to change sleeping
behaviors to maximize the benefits sleep can provide. After tracking my sleeping schedule for a
week, I have noticed some patterns and behavior that may be affecting the quality of sleep I am
getting. Based on my sleep journal, I could improve my sleep by cutting back on the amount of
caffeine I intake and the time spent on electronics before bed to try to reduce the amount of time
needed for me to fall asleep. I tracked my sleep for one week early on in the semester when I was
less busy and able to get more sleep, however the overall patterns in how I felt when waking up
and trouble falling asleep have remained mostly the same. In this particular week, I got an
average of about nine hours of sleep per weeknight. The recommended amount of sleep per night
is between eight to nine hours (Teague 77). I would say I need at least eight full hours of sleep a
night to feel like I am well rested. I did not occur a sleep debt during this week, however I have
experienced weeks were I did accumulate a sleep debt. When this occurs, I usually try to make up
for it by sleeping in on the weekends rather than napping. I have found that taking naps isn t an
effective way for me to reduce my sleep debt because I

the speaker comes from lust and Morgan comes from love. He constantly advises me to make the

a decision I will never regret. Andrew Marvelldemonstrates in To His Coy Mistress that the
influences of love, carpe diem, and death urge us to live a more fulfilled life. Love works in

We must focus on expression carpe diem. The speaker uses references to the Bible Love you ten

his future consequences could be. Noah trusted God; therefore, he ended up living a prosperous

John Stuart Mill And Utilitarianism
In Utilitarianism actions are judged right and wrong solely on their consequence, and in order to
assess this consequences, the only thing that matters is the amount of happiness and unhappiness
caused and by calculating happiness and unhappiness caused, nobody s happiness counts any more
than anybody else s. Utilitarian ethicsis the most common form of ethics used today, it has thrived
because two needs have been met by it. Firstly, end based thinking is common and people have
sought to improve and perfect what is produced by their effort. And secondly, the speed of life has
made single criterion solutions attractive toward rapid and effective problem solving.
Comparing deontological and consequentialist ethics by single criterion dynamic: Deontological
rule based ethics, with Immanuel Kant and Categorical Imperative drive decisions through rule or
principle to be applied; which means, consequences do not matter morally. In the other hand,
Consequential ends based ethics, with John Stuart Mill and Utilitarianism, drive decisions through
the amount of happiness to be produced as a consequence; which means, the rules and principles do
not matter morally.
In solving this dilemma, considering John Stuart Mill principle will be most efficient, this is
because, decisions should be made in time before their consequences appear and in specific cases
where justice and utility are in conflict just like in this case of organ transplant. It will be expedient
to serve the greater

The Urban Setting Of Pompeii
Introduction Ancient Pompeii was a planned city, like countless other Roman cities, military
camps and forts. Roman colonies founded on open field sites display Roman grid planning, or
Centuriation, at its most elaborate such as at Cesena, Padua, and Florence. Here, at Pompeii, a
famous Italian town in antiquity because of its excellent preservation caused by the volcanic
explosion of Mt. Vesuvius during the first century AD. The streets, canals, agriculture plots and
public spaces were laid out along geometric lines and these striations are suggestive of an ordered
arrangement reflected by the regular layout of a square grid, made famous by the Romans.
However, unlike in the sites listed above, Pompeii exists as a unique example of Roman urban
planningas it incorporates ideas of traditional grid style planning, but also more organic forms as
well. In this assessment of the urban setting of Pompeii, there will be a brief historical overview of
the cityin terms of urban designand its rediscovery, followed by an analysis describing the
importance of the domestic architecture, proceeding to evolution of the development and layout of
the urban landscape and it affected the social fabric of the town.
History of the Pompeiian Urban Setting Pompeii, whose heritage was originally Greek, had become
overrun by the Samnites in the fifth Century BC and even at that this point had a plethora of urban
buildings that predate Rome by several centuries. The Samnites greatly

Summary Of The Article Black Philly After The...
In the empirical article, Black Philly after the Philadelphia Negro, Marcus Anthony Hunter
examines the once populated Seventh Ward and the effects that political neglect and racial barriers
had on this primarily black area, which ultimately led to its urban decay. Similarly, in recent years,
we see this occurring in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. However, we notice how the neglect towards
Vesterbro stems from other factors such as immigration, crime, and a poor economy. Hunter
examined the archives of the Seventh Ward, specifically after W.E.B. Du Bois initial study of the
Seventh Ward. From the 1920s through the 1940s, Hunter found that the poor living conditions did
not improve. Instead, they were constant, suggesting that Republican politicians neglected this
black area. This period also offers a historical window into the shifting allegiances of black
Americans, and their retreat from the Republican Party and embrace of the Democratic Party

My Long Term Goal Is My Life
I would love to get back into running. It used to be a passion of mine, a way to relieve stress,
kept me in shape, and maintained my weight. Since I have stopped running there s no motivation
for physical activity, I m out of shape, and gained weight. My long term goal is to get back into
running everyday. It will put me back into a healthy lifestyle and will make me feel better over all.
If I do not return to running it will affect my physical health by making me gain more weight, and
continue to be out shape. This can make me become lazy. Socially it has affected me because I
pushed the friends I had away that I used to run with. I was ashamed to tell them that I was
getting lazy. Running used to help me clear my mind and allowed me to focus on priorities, but
now that I have stopped, I no longer can fully clear my mind. This is affecting my ability to
perform my best in school. Without running everyday, spiritually I feel like I ve just been going
through the motions of life, but not really living up to my potential. Since I pushed away all my
friend who supported my running, I do not have an environment that is supportive of physical
activity. All of these factors are making me live an unhealthy lifestyle.
If I do return to running I will lose the weight I gained, and be in shape. I would be surrounded with
people who support me living a healthy lifestyle. I would be a lot less stressed and would be
thinking a lot clearer. I will actually be able to remember

The Apostle Research Paper
The original term apostle usually refers to the twelve men that Jesus called to carry the gospel to
spread the gospel to the world. These men traveled with Jesus during His earthly ministry. The
original twelve apostles were sent out to preach and teach as apostles (Orr 2). They also saw the
crucifixion and the resurrection. Jesuscalled His first two disciples by the Sea of Galilee. Peter and
his brother Andrew were both fishermen. In Matthew 4:19 Jesus said Follow me and I will
make you fishers of men (NKJV). He also called James and John who were the sons of Zebedee.
Then after passing a tax office, He saw a man named Matthew. He asked Matthew to follow Him.
These people are the apostles of Jesus: Simon Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip of Bethsaida,
Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James, Simon (the Zealot), Judas, and Thaddaeus. Peter was the
disciple that Jesus chose to build His church. Peter ministered in Jerusalem but went to Judea when
the persecution began. The apostle John ministered with Peter in Jerusalem. When the persecution
began he went to Turkey and later Rome. He was arrested by the Emperor Domitian and was
banished to the island of Patmos, where he wrote the book of Revelations. Judas Iscariot was one
of the original twelve apostles. He betrayed Christ, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

known how Simon the Zealot died. Philip was crucified, and Bartholomew was skinned alive and
then beheaded. James was stoned to death in Jerusalem. Judas Iscariot committed suicide (meaning
that he killed himself). John was persecuted and survived. He was exiled to the island of Patmos,

Ovarian Cancer Essay
One woman s story that saved her from ovarian cancer.
As a busy mother of two, working a full time job as a primary schoolteacher, Paula Cann had
plenty of reasons to ignore the subtle changes that were happening inside her body.
Cann started noticed differences in urination and a small lump
It began with something as simple as peeing more than usual. Cann noticed that she started having
to go not only more often, but also with a new urgency. It got to the point that she could no longer
enjoy her evening walks around the local woods without desperately having to run to the bathroom.
Eventually, Cann noticed a subtle lump. She would only feel this lump insider her stomach
whenever she was lying down. Because it was painless and very ... Show more content on

Her decision to finally go to the doctor was what saved her life. Cann urges all women to pay
attention to their bodies and respect the fact that small changes could mean huge consequences. It s
better to be safe rather than sorry, so go to the doctor if you feel like there s something wrong and
you can t pinpoint why.
Cann was lucky to have caught cancer just in time
If Cann hadn t gotten the cyst removed at the time that she had, one more month of waiting could
have meant the difference between life and death. Thank goodness that she decided to see her
doctor and that her doctor was available to see her in a timely manner! Cann was told that she
caught her disease just in the nick of time to give her a favorable prognosis.
Why is it so hard to catch ovarian cancer early?
The difficulty in catching ovarian cancer early lies in the elusive nature of the signs and symptoms.
The most common symptoms reported are increased fatigue, needing to pee more often, persistent
bloating, and stomachaches. Because ovarian cancer can become so large as to obstruct other
organs in the body, women can sometimes feel unusually full only after a small meal or snack.
This can cause some patients to lose their appetites as well. When working women and full time
mothers are bustling around the house or office, it can be easy to miss these changes in your body.
Late diagnosis of ovarian

Analysis Of El Greco Made Me
At first while looking at the artworks it is actually not possible to figure out that the artist
himself might be representing him in his piece. But after reading the notes and knowing that the
artist is also a part in the image does enhances the two works of art. For the first image of The
Burial of Count Orgaz by El Greco, he did not include his portrait in the artwork, Instead, he
included an image of his son. On his son s handkerchief, he wrote, El Greco made me . That
indicates how El Greco will live on through this paintingand through his son. But he is not done
here yet, placed against the saint is one of the El Greco s landscape paintings. Such portraits do
enhance the artwork a lot. In the second image of Las Menians by Velazquez is different from
the previous one as the artist is prominently found in this artwork. Left side of the image is
dominated by the back of the artists and right side by the figures. The figures including young
princess, the king, and the Queen. The princess is all dressed up for her portrait session with
Velazquez. However, in the close up picture, I can see the artist seems very bored by being there.
As if he just wants to finish the portrait and leave. He has this unpleasant face that according to me
does enhance the artwork and makes in more interesting. He is like the focal point of the piece to
set the artwork unique beside others.
One way is in El Greco s artwork, how he includes the image of his son instead of him to refer

impactful to the war (Mcgowen 29). Consequently made Americans stand in front of the Japanese.
On the other hand, many historians think that Japanese were the cause of their own destruction.
Evidently, when they attack Pearl Harbor. Japanese knew that there will be revenge for this, but
their false assumption of the United States will not step into war after the drastic loss of the harbor

Comparing the Inuits and the North-West People Essay
Comparing the Inuits and the north west people
We have been studying the people of the North West and Inuits. In this essay I will describe their
differences and explain why they are different. They have a large variety of differences which had
a large effect on lifestyles.
Housing
The Inuits lives in snow houses known as Igloos. They houses were made out of snow as it was
plentiful in the area they lived in. The snow was many metres thick so it was ideal for insulating
Igloos; this meant they kept at a comfortable 16В°C especially when the females cooked food.
The North West people lived in large wooden houses. Wood was the ideal building resource as it
was easily available from the woodland and forests surrounding them. It was also ... Show more

This also meant they didn t have to spend most of their time hunting and gathering food.
The difference in climate between the Inuits and the North West people was due to their position
on the Earth. They both lived in totally different environments and this also controlled other factors
such as what they had available to eat. Each group adapted to their living environment and habitat
so to them their life was normal. It would be difficult for them to survive in each other s
environments as they had grew up and learnt how to survive in the area they lived in.
Hunting
The Inuit people had to go out and hunt for food; this was the job for the men. In the summer
when the ice melted they hunted from boats known as Kayaks. The kayak could move
efficiently through the water so the hunter could get close to the prey without being heard. They
usually hunted for ringed seals as it was an all year round mammal so it could be hunted in the
winter as well as in the summer. It also provided essential vitamins and minerals which were
found in fruits, but as they didn t have fruits in their habitat they had to rely on seals. The Inuit
hunter would use a sharp harpoon to stab the seal; he would then drag it up and take it inland.
Caribou and whale was also hunted for their skin and certain parts of their bodies which would
make good tools for carving in their spare time.
For the north west people, the ocean was the major source of food

  • 2. A Separate Peace By John Knowles Essay In A Separate Peace, a realistic fictional novel by John Knowles, World War 2 gradually encroaches upon and finally dominates life at Devon. The War is an ever present focus, if not focus then presence, that fell upon the students of Devon. That was the whole point wasn t it? Train hard in a boarding school to prepare for war. The war impinged itself upon the school through the boys views, jargon, and also was brought to the school. World War II infringed Devon through the boys views. This can be found throughout the book, A Separate Peace. However, it can be expressed best by a quote found on page 15. It states, We were not even Upper Middler exactly. For this was the Summer Session, just established to keep up with the pace of the war. We were in shaky transit that summer from the groveling status of Lower Middlers to the near respectability of Upper Middlers. The class above, seniors, draft bait, practically soldiers, rushed ahead of us toward the war. They were caught up in accelerated courses and first aid programs and a physical hardening regimen, which included jumping from this tree. We were still calmly, numbly reading Virgil and playing tag in the river farther downstream. Until Finny thought of the tree. (Knowls) The representative quote above signifies how the war has invaded the boys views in multiple ways. It shows this through the tree, instead of seeing it as simply what it is, it was viewed as a training device. Additionally, being draft bait is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Building A Waddell A-Truss Bridge Building a Waddell A Truss Bridge Introduction: Bridges have been used for thousands of years, beginning with natural formations, such as huge rock arches (Appendix A). The first bridges made by humans were most likely simple spans of wooden tree trunks laid across streams, or planks, such as rafts tied together (Gascoigne, 2001). These simple designs evolved over time, as new materials became available, to form the hundreds of bridges we use today. Some basic bridge designs include truss, arch, beam and suspension bridges. The most basic of these is the beam bridge (Appendix B1), which consists of a deck, spanning a relatively short distance, that is held up by a pair of abutments (vertical supports at either end). When weight is placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that it excessively designed, and can create excessive burdens on the cost, size and complexity (Sade, 2014). When designing large bridges, these three factors (excessive cost, size and complexity) regulate if a bridge is built, or if a different design is chosen. The Waddell A truss bridge (Appendix C) is a truss bridge designed by engineer John Alexander Low Waddell. It was built in 1898, as a short span railway bridge, and is one of only two bridges remaining which had the A truss design. Due to its high trusses, it is quite rigid in all directions, and it is easily erected as it has a simple design (Syazwi, 2013). These are some of the reasons why the Waddell a truss design was chosen. It is simple to create out of the materials which can be used (Manila folders) as it consists of beams and bars, as well as some gusset plates (Appendix C). Not only this, but the design allows it to hold quite a large amount of weight, in spite of the fact that a folder is not necessarily strong. However when folded, it may be surprising how much a small piece of card can actually hold. Manila folders were used to create this bridge because they are inexpensive, easy to cut bend and glue, have surprisingly predictable structural behaviour and can be used to build tubes, bars and strong ... • 4. History Of Motorcycles And Rider Freedom History of Motorcycles Motorcycles offer the rider freedom. The open road stretches in front of you. They offer freedom from the rest of the world; you are not going to be bothered by your ringing cell phone or the everyday stress of life. They give you the chance to feel like the wind is pulling you through the universe. There is nothing in this world that gives you the same feeling of the elements of skin, the road beneath your feet, and the freedom to go wherever your heart desires. Motorcycles are addictive. They are not a mode of transportation; they are a way of life. In The Beginning In 1967 the concept of a motorcycle was born. It was not a typical motorcycle that we have now days. It was powered by steam that came from coal. It was the first of the steam engines. They were a little bulky, and did not go very fast. Although it was bulky, it still holds the same basic concepts of a motorcycle. There is a moment in history where the bicycle collided with the gas engine. This moment was in 1885. A German man by the name of Gottlieb Daimler placed a gas powered engine , created by Nicolaus Otto, onto a wooden frame. This first cycle was not built for the speed like the models available to us, but you can imagine that they still offered quite a bit of freedom for the rider. It still would have had the feeling of the open road, a concept that was completely new to humans. The term motor cycle actually came from an English print that promoted the machines that were ... • 5. Water Fluoridation Must Stop Essay Fluoride compounds have been added to water supplies since as early as the 1950s because claims were made to support fluoride s use as a cavity preventer. However, studies conducted even decades before have shown that fluoride is an extremely hazardous substance that should be completely avoided. These views or claims about fluorideare just too contradictory, both cannot be true. Fluoride has hidden dangers that not enough people know about and should be removed from the water supplies despite false reports that it is actually beneficial, and the practice of water fluoridationshould be completely eliminated. First a little bit about fluoride needs to be known. These are the unarguable facts about fluoride. Fluoride is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Naturally fluoridated areas preceded the field trials since fluoride occurs naturally in some areas. (Oral) Communities with naturally occurring fluoride in water supplies were chosen for the trials, because results could be seen in these communities without so many years of testing. The studies showed that fluoride reduces dental caries to some extent depending on the amount of ingestion. These positive results lead to water fluoridation becoming a popular practice throughout civilized areas of the world. Putting a substance like fluoride in municipal water supplies is a good way to medicate many people at a time, since everybody drinking from the water supply would have a constant intake of fluoride. The big advantage of water fluoridation is that it benefits all residents in a community regardless of age, socio economic status, education or employment. (Kirshen) The number one purpose for water fluoridation is for the promotion of healthy and strong teeth. As it turns out fluoride doesn t even help with teeth, in fact it causes many problems with their formation. According to Dean Murphy DDS in his book The Devil s Poison: Fluorotic enamel is more porous and structurally weaker having a wear resistance that is commonly 40% to 60% of normal. (Murphy 57) This is because fluoride interferes with collagen producing enzymes leaving a faulty matrix for minerals to accumulate and crystallize. (Murphy 57) All pro fluoride advocates claim ... Water is one of, if not the most valuable resource for all life. Although 71% of the Earth is water, only 2.5% of it is fresh and safe for human consumption. Despite previously being considered a renewable resource, water is becoming scarce, especially in California. As more and more water is disappearing, California is struggling to find a solution to its unprecedented drought. Solutions thus far imported water, desalination, and ridiculous restrictions on use have not made a significant enough impact. However, a new, revolutionary resolution has appeared: potable water. The Pure Water project, a project that plans to construct three recycling plants to produce San Diego s water supply, only requires $3.5 billion to get started inexpensive in comparison to the amount of money it takes to import, partially purify, and desalinate water. An example of the ever growing expense of imported water can be found in the article Council unanimously approves purifying sewage into drinking water , which was published to UT San Diego on November 18, 2014. In this informational article, author David Garrick states, Councilman Scott Sherman said San Diego must fight back against sharply rising costs of imported water. Potable water is the best way to combat the increasing prices of imported water. Rather than relying on water from the Colorado River San Diego s main supplier existing water can be purified and reused. In the same article, it is also stated that, In addition, recycling wastewater... would allow the city to avoid spending about $2.1 billion in upgrades needed at the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant (Garrick). As mentioned in the quotation, San Diego is already spending generous amounts of money on water. This can be remedied, however, with the implication of potable water, which costs significantly less. Another one of San Diego s pricey water sources is desalination. Desalination is the high cost, high energy process of purifying salt water to make it drinkable. In the nonfiction article OC Coastkeeper: San Diego Swindled By Desalination, Don t Let OC Be Next , published on February 3, 2016 to voiceofoc.org by author Ray Hiemstra, it is stated that, San Diego is forced to pay for the most expensive water on the market whether they need it or not , in reference to the desalination plant managed by ... A number of supporters of the local working requirement argue if the patentee would be entitled to a territorial legal monopoly, she should to contribute to the development of the industry in that territory as an act of reciprocity. Nonetheless, K. McCabe explains the reason why defining the working requirement would be a burden for transnational companies. If comprehensively every country requires local working as one of the requirements for granting a patent, then exportation to a new foreign market means to establish a manufacturing facility in the country. Defining local working as a requirement therefore constitutes an unnecessary burden for a foreign patentee to build manufacturing facilities in all the signatories of TRIPS who have legislation as such. For this reason, the grounds for granting compulsory licenses should be limited to countries with a lower standard of technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

History Of Beer Brewing Beer And The Styles Of Beer Essay Introduction This paper is intended to review the history of brewing beer, the differences between the breweries, the trends, the process and ingredients used in brewing beer and the styles of beer. Detailed information will be discussed on how to adequately serve beer with food and how to compliment them together to make them appealing to the public. Beer was invented many centuries ago and was first known as a homemaker skill. Over the years beer has become very popular and technology has made the process of brewing beer less complex and more flavorful allowing for extreme success in the brewing industry. Analysis The history of beer is an extensive one, the actual timing and individual that invented beer is unknown. It is estimated that beer was created by accident over 5,000 years ago. Hard evidence of beer production dates back about 5,000 years to the Sumerians of ancient Mesopotamia (Andrews, 2014.) The concoction to create beer was stumbled upon when bread and wheat got wet and because water was usually contaminated beer became the preferred beverage. Beer is primarily made up of malt extract, yeast, hops, and water (Flowers, 2014) these ingredients add the syrup taste, sweetness, and different flavors to the beer while it is being brewed. Akhilleus was born by the goddess, Thetis, daughter to Poseidon and to the human, Peleus. His position is as commander of the entire Greek army. At the start of this war, between the Akhaians and the Trojians, there was a falling out between him and the Greek king, Agamemnon. In short, he ended up packing his bags and leaving the army without a commander. Pride was the cause of this whole quarrel. This pride of his was the center of many improprieties during the war. A feeling that you respect yourself and deserve to be respected by other people (definition of pride) This first example may have occurred near the end of the book, but it is going to be used first. Akhilleus pride was the direct cause for the need to withhold and torture Hektor s body after he killed him. (The Iliad, 22.410 421, 24.14 27) This event caused him to act inhumanely, no matter the reason. This action also prevented Hektor s family from having a proper funeral. Said Akhilleus: Let it be so. When the author transitions into present tense, she writes, I coil up in a self/mothering fashion and tell myself it s o.k (84 87). This suggests that she has finally figured out that a motherly or female figure still has great strength. Instead of protecting herself by pretending to be masculine and tough, she understands how much power a female figure holds. This portrays the internal growth she has made as time progressed. At the beginning, she was angry at the world and was indignant at the fact that she was a weak girl. With experience, she was able to embrace her true identity and view the hidden power she always had within her. This transition from the past to the present shows off how one s mind can evolve and learn to accept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Levi Jordan Plantation Essay The Plantation The Levi Jordan Plantation was established in 1848 and was abandoned in 1888, probably because of mistreatment by Levi Jordan. Some artifacts that were found on the plantation included coins, rings, bone saw frame, and a slave tag. Some caches were found, and in them were shells, animal bones, wine bottles, copper, cast iron pans, grapes, and tobacco pipes. Pots were also found next to the hearth, in what is thought to be the Blacksmith s Cabin. The heath was probably used to bake clay and for warmth;it was the center of activity in the cabin. In the blacksmith s cabin, bullet molds, metal tools, arrowheads, and some toys were found, leading people to believe that there were children there. The arrowheads were probably not used for hunting because they had guns, and it s much harder to hunt with a bow than guns. It is thought that they might have been used to make the bullets the right shape, as they were found next to the bullets. Some animal remains found on the plantation led people to believe that the guns were not just used for war, but also for hunting. Another type of thing that was found near the Levi ... How Did Malthus Build Food Production In The Ottoman Empire Growth and Food Production in the Ottoman Empire In his 1798 Essay on the Principle of Population, Thomas Malthus defended the proposition that, had population and food increased in the same ratio, it is probable that man might never have emerged from the savage state. Labeled a Malthusian trap after the demographer s work, the theoretical principle holds that, because population increases exponentially, while agricultural output increases arithmetically, periodic premature deaths among the population will be caused by a lack of sustenance. In the Ottoman Empire, immigration from Russia and the upper Balkan Peninsula brought a ten fold increase in iron plow use in Ottoman Bulgaria, and the introduction of the calorie rich potato to Anatolia, which had a beneficial effect of agriculture of Anatolia as a whole. Whether or not the limited introduction of improved techniques and plant species into the Empire was also driving force behind increased production, it still appeared to be caused by the influx of people to the region. Malthus s doomsday prediction of stagnation upon population growth appears to fail when considering the possibility of introduction of new techniques to maximize gains. So far, in the case of the Ottoman Empire, the relationship between changes in population density and agricultural production has proven to be that an increase in the former resulted in a subsequent and equal rise in the latter. Just as every other play, the Little Foxeshas included the dramatic elements in her play, particularly the plot, character, and language that all incorporate an underlying theme of greed. Lastly, there is the brief appearance of the character named Mr. Marshall. This character although very small was created extremely well. Just like Ben and Oscar, he had only one thing on his mind. Although his ulterior motive was greed, he hid that very well while he pretended to have a good time making friends with the family. I remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I d first step foot on the aircraft. Taking in a big breath of the airplane air that would always burn through my nose and make me slightly nauseous. As a kid I thought being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize or Grand Turk was normal; or that every other weekend every kid went to New York for the day to have lunch and do some light shopping then fly home that night. It was not until one day with my twin sister sitting in the seat next to me that I realized we were not like most kids. The flight attendant had bent down in between my sister and I as she quietly asked us if our parents had died. At twelve years old I was shocked and left speechless. It allows users ranging from various age groups to connect and interact with each other from all across the world. Today, the younger generation can utilize social media as a useful tool. Younger users can access these networks to communicate and create new friends, access up to date information and events, and use them as a form of entertainment. However, social media has some disadvantages that can impact younger users. Social media can affect younger users by being addictive, impacting education, and can pose dangerous threats. First, younger users can become addicted to social media. In the 21st century, technology has and still is evolving. Unlike some of the previous generations, it is common today to see a child interacting with a mobile device. This allows them to have access to social media websites and apps. Critics believe that social media can be positive, [enabling] more young people to be creative and innovative (Austin). However, becoming more active with social media activity can lead into an addiction. For instance, on popular websites and apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, users have a popular feature called the like button allowing them to show their support towards different content. For teens, gaining a high number of likes can illustrate popularity, increasing self esteem. On the other hand, this could lead into an addiction among individuals. In a brain scan study by Lauren Sherman, lead author of the brain study and researcher at UCLA, claimed that one of the reasons that teens are such active users on social media is that they re really sensitive to these likes (Almendrala). Summary Introduction Objective of this study is to provide a critical review of a research paper titled Implementing Changes in Marketing Strategy: The Role of Perceived Outcome and Process Oriented Supervisory Actions . (Sarin, et al, 2012).The authors investigate the influence of supervisors in implementing changes in the marketing strategy. The focus of the paper reveals the strategy sales supervisors use in influencing salespeople in implementing strategy marketing changes within organizations. The authors further argue that firms periodically need to change their marketing strategies to achieve technological development and generate opportunities. Typically, development in technologies necessitates firms to formulate changes in the marketing strategies to capture opportunities from the new technologies. To capture opportunities from the technological changes, firm often use their frontline employees such as supervisors to influence their salespeople to get customers to transact business using internet platform rather than offline method to purchase goods. Theoretical Framework: The authors formulate stress theory and change management theory to provide greater understanding on the challenges sales supervisors could encounter in convincing salespeople to advise their customers to use online method to purchase products rather than from salespeople. (Lafferty,et al 2006). Typically, salespeople may be reluctant to implement the changes because they may believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Spoon River Poetry Analysis The 1915 poetry collection, Spoon River Anthology, by Edgar Lee Masters, offers a portrait of daily life in a fictional Illinois town, Spoon River. As is evident from the poems Spoon River was an economic boom town which profited greatly from its proximity to rail roads and a major waterway. Regardless of its prosperity, Spoon Riverseems to have remained a demographically small town, and the neighbors all knew each other very well, and a clear social hierarchy formed. One of the more interesting aspects of the Spoon River Anthologyis that the poems contained therein are a series of grave epitaphs that tell a story about each deceased resident. Often, graveyards themselves can serve as reminders of social hierarchies in the world of the living. Typically, only those decedents who had family members and a community who cared for them would be laid to rest in the community grave; the potter s field and the crematorium awaited those who passed away without family, in debt, or with a criminal record. Thus, the initial assessment of the deceased within the Spoon River graveyard would be that they were good people in their lives. Indeed, many of the epitaphs depict the decedents as moral, hardworking, and decent people. However, when cross referencing the epitaphs from each citizen, it becomes clear that the prominent members of Spoon River were incredibly corrupt in their day to day behavior. Ultimately, Masters explores ethics in Spoon River Anthology by studying the fine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After tracking my sleeping schedule for a week, I have noticed some patterns and behavior that may be affecting the quality of sleep I am getting. Based on my sleep journal, I could improve my sleep by cutting back on the amount of caffeine I intake and the time spent on electronics before bed to try to reduce the amount of time needed for me to fall asleep. Utilitarian ethicsis the most common form of ethics used today, it has thrived because two needs have been met by it. Firstly, end based thinking is common and people have sought to improve and perfect what is produced by their effort. And secondly, the speed of life has made single criterion solutions attractive toward rapid and effective problem solving. In the empirical article, Black Philly after the Philadelphia Negro, Marcus Anthony Hunter examines the once populated Seventh Ward and the effects that political neglect and racial barriers had on this primarily black area, which ultimately led to its urban decay. Since I have stopped running there s no motivation for physical activity, I m out of shape, and gained weight. My long term goal is to get back into running everyday. It will put me back into a healthy lifestyle and will make me feel better over all. If I do not return to running it will affect my physical health by making me gain more weight, and continue to be out shape. This can make me become lazy. Socially it has affected me because I pushed the friends I had away that I used to run with. I was ashamed to tell them that I was getting lazy. Running used to help me clear my mind and allowed me to focus on priorities, but now that I have stopped, I no longer can fully clear my mind. This is affecting my ability to perform my best in school. Without running everyday, spiritually I feel like I ve just been going through the motions of life, but not really living up to my potential. Since I pushed away all my friend who supported my running, I do not have an environment that is supportive of physical activity. All of these factors are making me live an unhealthy lifestyle. If I do return to running I will lose the weight I gained, and be in shape. I would be surrounded with people who support me living a healthy lifestyle. I would be a lot less stressed and would be thinking a lot clearer. I will actually be able to remember ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Analysis Of El Greco Made Me At first while looking at the artworks it is actually not possible to figure out that the artist himself might be representing him in his piece. But after reading the notes and knowing that the artist is also a part in the image does enhances the two works of art. For the first image of The Burial of Count Orgaz by El Greco, he did not include his portrait in the artwork, Instead, he included an image of his son. On his son s handkerchief, he wrote, El Greco made me . That indicates how El Greco will live on through this paintingand through his son. But he is not done here yet, placed against the saint is one of the El Greco s landscape paintings. Such portraits do enhance the artwork a lot. In the second image of Las Menians by Velazquez is different from the previous one as the artist is prominently found in this artwork. Left side of the image is dominated by the back of the artists and right side by the figures. The figures including young princess, the king, and the Queen. The princess is all dressed up for her portrait session with Velazquez. However, in the close up picture, I can see the artist seems very bored by being there. As if he just wants to finish the portrait and leave. He has this unpleasant face that according to me does enhance the artwork and makes in more interesting.
