An Analysis of Two Advertisements Essay
An Analysis of Two Advertisements
I am going to analyse two adverts and discuss which one is more effective. The first advert that I am
going to study is marketing New Synergie lift by Garnier. The second is promoting the product Total
turnaround by Clinique. Both adverts were obtained from Marie Claire a magazine intended for
women aged between twenty and thirty. This suggests that the target audience for these two particular
adverts is women, who are possibly very conscientious about their appearance and who typically have
a salary, therefore will be able to afford the products being advertised.
The Clinique advert has a very simple yet effective layout. There is a photograph in the ... Show more

As in Clinique there is a sentence at the top of the page backed by a white setting making it stand out.
This layout, although very different to that of Clinique is also very effective. It immediately attracts
the viewer to the main photograph of a beautiful lady, the reader then wants to see what makes her this
stunning, making them look around for indications in the advert.
The two adverts have very different layouts. The Clinique page is very simple with one main group of
images altogether in one place, whereas in Garnier advert places images over the entire page
spreading them keeping your eye moving all the time.
The layout of the Clinique advert is more effective than Garnier s because of the simplicity. The eye is
not distracted at all as it is in the Garnier advert but is forced to look at the most important thing in the
whole advert the product.
In the Clinique advert, the first thing that seizes your attention is the baby chick in the centre of the
page. Human instinct is to look at the eyes of another animal before any other part of their body as this
feature is what tells us the most about that particular species. This forces the reader to look at the baby
chick prior to the other images in the advert. The chick is very cute, fluffy and soft looking. This
instantly gives the reader the impression that this is

Differences Between Marketing And Operations Management
B203A
The effectiveness of organizational performance depends on the capability of the organization to
cooperate and direct the activities of its various functional units to eliminate discrepancies and
maximize efficiency. Marketing and operations management are two main functions within any
organization. Both of them are responsible for providing goods and services that satisfy the customer
needs. This essay will point out the role of marketing and operations management within business.
The essay shall also explore how the absence of coordination between marketing and operations
management create quality gap. Eventually, the essay will also mention the importance of
coordination between marketing and operation management.
Marketing and operation management are core activities in the organization that should work together
in harmony and consistency. Al Mari company is one of the largest food stuff companies in GCC
region . The relationship between marketing and operations management is maintained and fostered
by the company. Marketing function include all the activities and processes directed to discover,
manage and develop customer relationships by meeting customer expectations. The role of the
marketing function in Al Mari is to discover customer needs by collecting relevant information about

The Rights Of The Labour Movement

Question 1: What are the arguments for and against reframing labour rights as human rights?
Demonstrate your familiarity with the discussion set out in the course materials.
Introduction
The publication of the Unfair Advantage by the Worker s Freedom of Association in the United States
saw a major turn on Human Rights watch in the Labour ministry all over the world. Countries such as
Canada and Australia came into the lime light in the fight for labour struggles as human rights. This
move was aimed at revitalization of the labour movement. It is a move that saw the International
Human Rights Day declared a holiday as it is does Labour Day. The advocates on the human rights
approach work hand in hand with the human rights allies of the inexorable internationalization of the
labour struggles. They allowed the naming and shaming of the labour laws abusers and infringement.
These acts were more responsive to the current political and economic zeitgeist than the traditional
labour influences. On the other hand, reframing of human rights was seen to result to authoritativeness
to the labour discourse that would undermine trade unionists. While the voices of those advocating for
the framing of human rights was loud enough, others saw this move as misplaced. It was a fact that the
replacement of solidarity and the unity that was the anchor for labour justice would be gone. It simply
meant the end

Camelot Alternate Ending
Merlin took a break from moving about Arthur s chambers, tidying up, to stare absently out the
window. The sun had risen warm and bright over Camelot today. And down below, the courtyard was
bustling with servants and guards and knights, all hurrying about to do their various separate tasks and
duties. It was just a normal morning for all of them. Nothing out of the ordinary. But as he stared
down at the scene before him, Merlin couldn t help but shudder to think how close they had all been to
not waking up to another normal day. Of course, no one else was aware of that fact. No one else knew
of the events that had transpired last night. No one else knew that there had been yet another threat to

Merlin frowned. Had he really been that deep in thought? That he hadn t even heard the prat calling

He had tried many times before to just tune out Arthur s voice. He was rarely ever successful. What

Essay about The Theory of Scientific Theories
The Theory of Scientific Theories
Sir Popper s piece, Science: Conjectures and Refutations, reaffirms the scientific methods currently in
use. No scientific theory is ratified without serious consideration and careful observation. Science is
the pursuit of what can be proven false and the resulting assumptions of what must be true.
The problem that plagues Sir Popper is the clear definition of science and pseudoscience. Though the
empirical method is common to both, the level of inferential data varies greatly. One can amass large
amounts of data by observing human behavior, but data alone is not the stuff of scientific theory.
Theories must be assembled fusing factual data, and inducive reasoning. The point of induction seems

By setting out to validate an assumption, we determine the outcome of any challenge to that
assumption. Kuhn reiterates this in his works on Copernicus. Though Copernicus firmly believes that
the earth is not the center of the universe, he is hesitant to disclose his theories. He knows that any
experimentation will be done with the assumption that man is the center, and therefore determine the
outcome before experiments even begin.
The next conclusion Popper declares is that the more rigorous the testing of a theory, the stronger it
will become. During the scientific revolution, mathematicians like Kepler and astronomers like Brahe
went to great lengths to improve the accuracy of experiments. Rather than formulate volumes of
calculations, Kepler struggled to improve upon the accuracy of Copernicus work. The fruits of his
labors were observations accurate within four degrees, and led to the theory of eliptical orbits. Brahe,
with the aid of new optical equipment such as the astrolabe, set a new standard for accurate depiction
of planetary bodies and their actions. The progression of these thoughts brings us to another of his
conclusions. Testing has degrees of accuracy which must be optimized to truly proclaim a theory. In
summary, a scientific theory must be falsifiable, refutable, and testable.
In revision of his postulates, Popper alludes to a few interesting concepts on the nature of scientific
thought. Many major scientific contributions have

Psychedelics Research Paper
Exploring the Medical Properties of Psychedelics Used throughout the centuries for a wide range of
purposes, psychedelic drugs continue to hold an air of mystique in spite of their somewhat dangerous
properties. The history of psychedelics reaches back as far as 10,000 years by some accounts,
however, only recently have the properties of psychedelic drugs become an interest in fields of
science. In spite of certain safety considerations, the cultural stigma about psychedelics, and with the
war on drugs still raging, the history of psychedelics may offer clues as to how these powerful
hallucinogens can be used for medicinal purposes and provide insight to the controversy that

Thus, throughout this essay, I plan on analyzing the pros and cons of psychedelics in clinical trials and

for their ability to alter conscious perception and produce transient experiences. The psychedelic
experience is often compared to non ordinary forms of consciousness such as trance, meditation, yoga,
religious ecstasy, dreaming and to near death experiences. With a few exceptions, most psychedelic
drugs fall into one of the three following families of chemical compounds; tryptamines,
phenethylamines, and lysergamides. Examples include but are not limited to: LSD, LSA, tryptamines,
psilocybin, DMT, mescaline, MDMA, MDEA, and MDA. Most of these psychedelics function on the
neurological level by influencing agonizing serotonin receptors in different acute regions of the brain,
which distinguishes one psychedelic metabolite from another. While this may be the case, part of the

Alternative Beta Funds Are All High Dividend Oriented
1) Alternative beta funds are all high dividend oriented and therefore strive to provide low variance on
high returns, achieved through a combination of active management and passive tracking of their
corresponding benchmark indices. The differing benchmarks mean that each ETF is invested in
different sectors and firms and these strategies lead to varying performance. RDV RDV matches the
Russell Australia High Dividend Index; its investments are primarily in large, well established firms
such as financials and property trusts (highest of the four ETFs). RDV s investment consists of 50
large cap stocks for diversification, and as firmly entrenched companies, these value stocks tend to
lower risk with a more constant stream of dividends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
IHD IHD s portfolio contains 50 securities from the ASX300, like RDV, and also limits individual
equity weights at 4%, the lowest of the four ETFs. Consequently, VHY VHY diversifies its securities
by limiting sectors to 40% and individual funds at 10% to avoid overinvestment in a single stock.
These limits are the highest of the four funds and therefore VHY sees large investment in large cap
value stock on the ASX that have a historically strong dividend payout. 2) The proxy for all ETF
analysis is the ASX300 due to ease of information availability. Ideally, individual benchmarks would
also be used to identify the effectiveness of managers in matching their desired indices. However,
using the market portfolio does allow better comparison of performance individual ETFs against each
other relative to the market (Henriksson 1984) and makes analysis under CAPM, Single Index Model
and related measures more accurate. Furthermore, the R Squared is high for all stocks against the
ASX300 indicating a robust relationship. Comparing the four ETFs, the fund with the highest monthly
excess return, on the risk free rate, is VHY (0.024%). Clearly this is not risk adjusted and
consequently the reward to variability ratio (Sharpe 1964) is utilised to quantitatively measure return
for each ETF relative to the total risk it exposes investors to. However, the returns for all ETFs are not
normally distributed, by analysing Kurtosis and skewness, and excess returns are

Utilitarianism in Government
In its political philosophy utilitarianism provides an alternative to theories of natural law and the
social contract by basing the authority of government and the sanctity of individual rights upon their
utility, or measure of happiness gained. As an egalitarian doctrine, where everyone s happiness counts
equally, the rational, relatively straightforward nature of utilitarianism offers an attractive model for
democratic government. It offers practical methods for deciding the morally right course of action ...an
action is right as it tends to promote happiness, wrong as it tends to diminish it, for the party whose
interests are in question (Bentham, 1780). To discover what we should do in a given situation, we

One major point of contention, however, is that it is often difficult, if not impossible, to measure and
compare the values of certain benefits and costs. How does one assign value to human life, or time, or
artistic pleasures such as literature and music? Mill s response was to introduce variables to pleasure.
While Bentham concentrated on quantity (the pleasure s duration, intensity, etc), Mill stressed quality.
Adding the feature of quality to pleasure differentiates higher , intellectual pleasures from common,
physical ones. He argues in his famous quote It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig
satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, are of a
different opinion, it is only because they only know their own side of the question . This reasoning is
not very satisfactory if we consider how subjective (and elitist) it can be. Who is to determine which
activities are more high brow or low brow, and what makes a competent judge? Mill states it should be
person who has experience of the activities in question, but a key aspect of utilitarianism it the
requirement of making these judgements impartially and impersonally. With the diversity of this world
it is highly unlikely that the tastes and preferences will all align in accord. Even if we attempt to make
our decisions based on how others would be affected, it is impossible for us to know or measure the

Abstract
This paper analyses the human activities that lead towards global climatic changes. It establishes the
thought that human behavior and activities that are the major cause of global climatic changes,
therefore, human beings shall alter their lifestyles in order to put a stop at the global climatic changes.
Global Climatic Changes
Introduction
Global climatic change can be defined as a long term shift in the overall and average climatic
conditions. It is quite evident from various statistics that there has been a significant change in the
global climate. The end of the 20th and the 21st century have witnessed some of the warmest periods
of the globe. The temperature recorded during this period was reported to be highest when compared
with the instrumental temperature records. The evident shifts in the Global climate started in the mid
of the 19th century and after that the global climate kept on getting worse with the passage of time.
(Unknown, 2007)
Human behavior and activities trigger climatic changes in a significant manner. These activities cause
the climate of the globe to change by altering the energy balance of the earth. The major threat to the
global climate is the burning of fossil fuels. These fuels, when burnt, produce Carbon dioxide and
other green house gases and aerosols which are great threats to the atmosphere. These gases alter the
solar radiations,

Personal Is Political
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, political is defined as a situation that relates to the
government or the public arrangements and rulings for a country ( political ). Political can also be
viewed as the means and processes in which a country is able to govern their citizens and for them to
do same for the government. The political agenda can relate to the lives of an individual person when
it impedes on their natural rights. This can seen in many cases where a personal experience or
condition influences the choices of an individual. There has also been debate about if the personal
needs to be kept separate from politics to make unbiased choices. Two examples of this topic of debate
is the separation of church and state, and the ethics of war and combat. However, the personal is
political argument opposes this idea by stating that the personal interests and experience of an
individual can be used to shape a country s political and social agenda (Harutyunyan 50). Using the
argument of personal is political it can be shown that one s experiences with their own body and
psyche can help shed light on specific political and social issues in a country such as veteran disability
and mental illness. The body can help raise social awareness for campaigns that advocate against air
pollution by showing the deteriorating health of a nation s population or help bring attention to issues
such as veteran disability compensation. The topic of veterans and mental illness is by

Pglo Plasmase
Abstract
When trying to transfer several specific plasmids into a new host DNA, you need a way to check and
see if the desired plasmids were combined to the DNA, that s where there pGLO test comes in. By
using an ultraviolet light, a person is able to immediately see if the new plasmids have been accepted
into the bacteria by whether or not a bright green fluorescent light is emitting from the bacteria. So the
process in how pGLO is expressed would be the plasmid itself is extracted from the A. Victoria,
modified and inserted into bacteria with the three genes. The beta lactamase then comes first, to give it
a resistant to the ampicillin antibiotics that would initially kill it. This then allowed the araC operon to

are, whether it is just LB, LB and ampicillin, or LB, ampicillin, and araC (4). There should be one for

them in a forty two degrees Celsius heating block for fifty seconds. Once the fifty seconds have

The Roles Of Latinas On Television
The main purpose of this paper was to research the roles of Latinas in television. More specifically,
how Latinas are represented within the television industry. The study consisted of a content analysis of
three television programs from the years 2015 2017. A procedure was employed and seven characters
were selected. The categories that were used in the study were based on the character s ethnicity and
gender, but the variables were developed based on previous research. The results have revealed that
there s a slight change, however, Latinas continue to be underrepresented and negative stereotyped.

The two theories that the researcher will look at that fit into this research are Cultivation theory and
Agenda setting theory.
Cultivation Theory
Many people might say that prime time network programming is responsible for the way people
perceive the different situations in the real world. The theory the researcher will discuss began as a
way to test the impact that all this television viewing had on viewers (West Turner p. 421). In the late
1960s, George Gerbner developed the Cultivation Theory which later on evolved over time through
the use of mass media. Through this theory is a television based theory, its assumptions and processes
can be applied to the representation of Latinas in the media.
Cultivation Theory is being used not just in the United States, but all around the world. This theory
just like other theories is applied daily because society is constantly watching television to educate
themselves on what s happening around the world. One of the reasons why this theory can be applied
by anyone, it s because It asks people to assess their own media use alongside the socially constructed
reality of the world they inhabit (West Turner p. 435). According to George Gerbner, cultivation
theory says that as time passes more people in the real world of television are easier to believe that
social reality resembles the

Emerson A Transcendentalist
In twenty first century America, everyone wants to be an individual. But is that same individuality
only just a mask? Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet who led the
transcendentalist movement of the mid nineteenth century. In his speech titled The American Scholar,
Emerson proposed a plan for Americans to transform into thinkers and doers in the new country. He
preached that one must take into account the importance of nature, past, and action when presented
with intellectual situations. He believed that it was vital for the contemporaneous society to come
together and better itself, and the only way to accomplish this was for each individual to take their
distinctive part, and as Emerson would put it, perform their duty as scholars. Due to the conformity
within society, the ever growing sense of self entitlement, and the general apathetic nature that
pollutes the nation, Emerson s plan is not applicable in twenty first century America. ... Show more

The Lapham family betrayed Johnny, just because of Johnny s hand that was burned while making a

as a gifted person in her family. After the incident Mrs. Lapham called Johnny a useless person that is
only good for picking up rags and virtually told Johnny to get out of the house. Johnny was even
betrayed by his own family and the proof was a silver cup that the entire family knew about. After
leaving the Lapham family, being jobless, and starving Johnny decided to use his last resort, which
was the silver cup that was given to him by his mother. The entire family rejected Johnny when they
were in private, and in court without any sympathy, even though the Lyte family knew Johnny s case
about his dead mother. Jonathan Lyte, a very wealthy, successful, and popular merchant in Boston,
accused Johnny of stealing one of the cups that belong to Jonathan Lyte. Luckily during the case, Cilla

August, however Johnny Tremain had showed the silver cup to Cilla on July. That proves that Johnny
did not steal Jonathan Lytes silver cup and the silver cup belonged to Johnny Tremain. Johnny was

The Jesuits Perception Of Indigenous People
The documents by John De Brébeuf were referring to how the Jesuits went and observed the everyday
lives of the Indigenous people, and found that their beliefs were entirely different. As the Jesuits
believed their perspective on religion and god were the only true way of looking at the world, they
saw the beliefs of the Indigenous people as uniformed and less evolved. As a result, they felt it was
necessary to set the Indigenous people on the proper path to true salvation which, according to the
Jesuit, could not be achieved through the belief held by the Indigenous people, as they did not
recognize the Christian vision of one god. In this paper, I am going to argue that the author s primary
intent was to evaluate a way to make the Indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of their bias they couldn t resist the temptation to show them that god is giving them all of the
lakes, rivers, earth, and sky so they should be thanking him, not each one of these individually.
Another thing that is very important to the Indigenous people, are their dreams. They are using their
dreams in many different ways, but one important way is to help someone who is sick. The captain
visits the elders and tells them about his dream, once they know what the person needs in order to get
better, the whole clan helps to find that object. Once the object is given to the sick member, they will
get better. The Jesuits took this and hoped that they would one day become capable of Christian
charity. This means that the Jesuits saw that the Indigenous people did things as a community, and
wanted to help each other get the things they needed in order to live a normal and healthy life, which
is a little different than how the Jesuits go about helping others. Help for others in this way is viewed
more as charity because people are offering to help out of the goodness of their hearts rather than just
as community norms, so they both have a different word. Again, this represents a bias perspective on
the part of the Jesuits as they did not value individual participation in the community as a cultural
default. They respected individual sacrifice as a means to demonstrate a commitment to god.
Interesting that the Jesuits believed so strongly in their perspective that they were willing to bring a
degree of suffering, in the form of individual sacrifice in order to believe in the appropriate

Education And Liberal Arts Education
A study in general education (liberal arts) affects different aspects of my development both physically
and mentally. A liberal arts education has shaped the form I conceive and return over individual
circumstances. After attending class and reading all the benefits of a liberal arts education it has
shaped the direction I held regarding a Liberal Arts education. A liberal arts education has shifted the
way I study and the process I go about completing my school work. Furthermore, from the manner I
organize my day to the way I organize my goals, a liberal arts education really shaped the way I do my
everyday schedule. The liberal arts class changed me into a greater adapted, more efficient and
effective member of society. A liberal arts education taught me the value and efficiency of critical and
independent thinker. Within the real world, an individual who can show aforementioned qualities is
higher valued than the person who cannot. With a liberal arts education, you are more fit to acquire
and exhibit these skills. A liberal arts education are intended to broaden the general knowledge and
experiences of the students, and the class accomplished just that. The class affected my mentality
about school and the way I see the real world.
The meaning and purpose of a liberal arts education are to achieve education further than merely
college core, but also to prepare you for future occupations. A liberal arts education introduces
profession opportunities and builds a foundation

Compare the Way Poets Present Relationships in The...
Compare the way poets present relationships in The Farmer s Bride and The Manhunt .
In Charlotte Mew s The Farmer s Bride and Simon Armitage s The Manhunt , difficult relationships
are presented by speakers who are dealing with an emotionally closed partner. Both poems explore
how relationships are affected by mental health issues.
In The Farmer s Bride , the Farmer marries a girl without getting to know her. As the marriage
progresses, the wife s mental illness gradually develops at first she turn[s] afraid , until she tries to run
away, and will only speak to animals. This causes the farmer to become jealous, impatient and
possibly mentally unstable. In the fourth stanza, the farmer describes his wife as she is to nature ...

salts and is the home of the largest colony of bats in the region. I selected this site because I love the
Carlsbad Caverns here in the United States and I thought that it would be interesting to visit a place
that is popular with the local population. I have always been fascinated by the rock formations that

Microorganisms Can Easily Be Found From Water
Microorganisms can easily be found in water. In third world countries, this can pose a huge threat,
because lots of people can get sick from drinking water. SODIS is a method used by many in
undeveloped countries as means of attaining microbe free water. It involves allowing water to stay
exposed to sunlight in order to kill whatever microbes are living in it. For this experiment, microbial
diversity was determined by collecting a sample of water of different from shaded water and water
directly hit by the sunlight. Microbes were then cultured for 7 days. The abundance of the different
colony types was then counted. Results exhibited that the community from the light area was more
biodiverse. It was concluded that a possible reason for this is due to the different structures of bacteria,
allowing some of them to sustain the light and others to be restricted by it. Since SODIS relies on light
to kill microorganisms, it should be accompanied by another method that will also kill the bacteria that
may survive in the water after being treated in the sunlight.
Introduction
Microbes are any organism that can t be seen with the naked eye. They can be classified as bacteria,
protists, fungi and sometimes even parasites. Many different types of microbes can exist within a
community, which means that they have the potential to have a high species diversity (Reece et. al.
2014). Found virtually anywhere, microbes can range from being very beneficial for the environment

Love Is Not All By Edna St. Vincent Millay
Love cannot fill the thickened lung with breath (L.5). Love is not all is a poem by Edna St. Vincent
Millay. Edna St. Vincent Millay was born on the February 22, 1892, in Rockland, Maine, United
States and later after 58 years in 1950 she passed away. Her mother forced her father out in 1899. In
addition, her mother Cora Louella had influenced her children to value literature and music. Edna St.
Vincent Millay had published her first poem in 1912, which won her a scholarship into Vassar College
in New York, America. Furthermore, Love is not all is a poem that is enthuasitic, disillusionment and
was published on 1931.
The poem begins by describing many things that love cannot do, including its inability to heal. The
poet observes, however, that many have died for lack of love alone ; and considers whether, in
moments of suffering, she would trade love (which keeps the individual alive) for peace/release.
Although the poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay is short, the first half of the poem deals with what love
cannot do. Love is not a lifesaver, shelter, or a doctor. The second half is about the power that love
has. Love is not all is a sonnet with a traditional structure of octave and sestet in its fourteen lines. Its

A Segregated Education By Jonathan Kozol
A Segregated Education
It has become common today to dismiss the lack of education coming from our impoverished public
schools. Jonathan Kozol an award winning social injustice writer, trying to bring to light how our
school system talks to their students. In his essay Still Separate, Still Unequal, Kozol visits many
public high schools as well as public elementary schools across the country, realizing the outrageous
truth about segregating in our public education system. Kozol, cross examining children describing
their feelings as being put away where no one desires your presence. Children feeling diminished for
being a minority; attending a school that does not take into consideration at the least the child s well
being. Showing clear signs of segregation in the education system. Many education writers have much
to say about the education taking place in our public schools, as well as Kozol. For Instance Diane
Ravitch a research professor of education at New York University spoke about an interesting truth,
saying, The achievement gaps are rooted in social, political, and economic structures. If we are
unwilling to change the root cause, we are unlikely ever to close the gaps. The success of our children
s education is mainly caused by economic, social and political statue. If one does not end the cycle the
gap will most likely never close. This may tie in with when Kozol cites Marina Warner, an essayist
and novelist, saying, There are expensive children and there

How Did Littlewood Influence The Style Of Theatre
Born on 6th October, 1914 in South London, Joan Littlewood rejected the standard performance style
of theatre in the 1900s (as a form of escapism from the war) and replaced in with a style of theatre
which experimented with contemporary social issues amongst a working class audience.
Once completing her studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) Littlewood founded
numerous theatre companies around the UK during the 1930s and 40s including: Theatre Union,
Theatre of Action and Theatre Workshop. Namely, Theatre Workshop s performances became very
successful after moving from Manchester to Stratford (in the East End of London). Originally, their
performances were either Shakespearean, other classics, or controversial plays which were written or
adapted by Littlewood s husband, Jimmy Miller this was before Joan Littlewood developed her own
style of performance [ Agitprop ]

The Central Park Five
Introduction
Crime, deviance, and unethical conduct can found within almost every occupation and profession.
Police ethics is the conduct that everyone is most concerned with. Police officers enter into an
occupation that shares many characteristics of other career fields, but it also has unique
responsibilities that deal with conduct and behavior. The PBS documentary: The Central Park Five,
demonstrates two of the most common misconduct issues that the criminal justice professionals deal
with noble cause and noble cause corruption. The film investigates the miscarriage of justice of four
Black and one Latino teenager from Harlem, who were wrongly convicted of the brutal beating and
rape of a white woman in New York City s Central Park.
The Police Perspective
When this Central park case was made public, the New York Police Department and District Attorney
office s main focus was to solve the case as quickly as possible. When the five teenagers were found
wilding in the park the night of the women s death, the police believed they had found the suspects.
The police were so confident of the teenager s guiltiness, the five boys were interrogated of their
involvement in the crime. The police used their authority and persuasion to get the boys to confess and
promise them that they would go home if they talked. Through strenuous and intense interrogation, the
five boys confessed to the killing and rape of the young women on videotape. These confessions were

Essay on Shirow s Ghost in the Shell
Shirow s Ghost in the Shell
The real beauty of Mamoru Oshii s adaptation of Shirow s Ghost in the Shell lies in its attention to
detail and the sheer cohesiveness of these details which collectively form complex ideas and plot. In
nearly every detail and every plot element lies some tie to the key themes of the anime. Some of the
main themes deal with the commodification of the flesh and body; the separation between one s spirit
and body; and the idea that a static environment or organism a weak stronghold. Here I will choose to

They had no ghosts, but their simple resemblance to people (they were a form of simulcra as they
wore our clothing in advertisement) made us attach some significance to them as entities.
On a related point (and often in that same scene), we see examples of the commodifcation of people
their ghosts as well as their shells. From the beginning of the movie, one of the things that becomes
readily apparent is that Motoko is somewhat objectified in her repeated removal of clothing to bare
her thermoptic camoflaged skin. In the manga, she WORE clothing to achieve this effect. Even this
creation of her as a sexual object seems to point to the commodification of the body as spare parts put
together, and resultant ownership by the creators of the body, rather than the individuals who inhabit
them. If the objectification of women is a state of separation of the women and their bodies (and in
fact the act of doing this a means of ownership by the male), then there is really very little difference
between Motoko as a sexual object and Motoko as property of the government.
Further details which push forward the idea of the individual as a commodity occur at the climax
when Motoko asks 2501 why she was chosen, and the answer is that he saw something of himself in
her. That logic points to a sudden objectification and classification of even the ghosts, which are

The Mafia of the Prohibition Era
Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated crime
in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started quite
earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to continued
rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the 20th as over
500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated to the cities of
the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization known as Costra
Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia.
In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group known
as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from such
invaders. Starting in the 19th century, members of the group began exploiting protection money from
various landowners and grew into the violent organization known as the Sicilian Mafia (History).
In the 1920s, the Prohibition era just began in America and crime across the country increased
dramatically. Simultaneously, the very unpopular Benito Mussolini became leader of Italy. The
combination of mobsters needing a new home and America with a new demand for crime created a
destined path for the Sicilian mobsters. New York City became the new breeding ground for the Italian

American Education Vs Japanese Education Essay
Education is such an important institution in the society that has a huge impact on the younger
generation. A well performing education system continuously requires the process of analyzing and
reforming. However, it still remains that not every country does the same to satisfy this process to
improve its educational system. As a consequence, some countries have better education systems than

obituary appeared in The Times, Eden was the last Prime Minister to believe Britain was a great
power and the first to confront a crisis which proved she was not. Guy Millard, Eden s Private
Secretary while he was Prime Minister, stated in a conversation thirty years after the Suez Crisis, it

Nasser himself was concerned about his own military and even though Eisenhower was the President,
John Foster Dulles and his brother Allen Dulles appeared to have more power in the government.
Interestingly enough, the Suez Crisis was not just between Britain and Egypt, as both France and
Israel were involved, as were other nations. There was an issue between Iraq and Egypt, France and
Algeria, Israel and Jordan. Although the United States was not involved initially, it did become a
major player along with the United Nations. Even Canada, through Lester B. Pearson became
involved in policing the ceasefire and bringing in the Emergency

How Media And Electronics Can Be Good For Not Only Self...
Imagine a life without phones, television, and computers. There would be no way to communicate long
distances, and none of the technological companies we have today (apple, samsung) would exist.
Screen free week, a worldwide celebration is where kids, parents, schools, and even whole townships
pull the plug on electronics for an entire week. Journalists believe that screen free week is a huge step
to lessening use of electronics among teens around the globe. Many townships like Hillsborough, New
Jersey are debating about pulling the plug and going back to the books for the entire week of May 4th
to May 10th 2015. This screen free week celebration is known to help people get off their electronics
and interact with real people instead over social media where as people can take advantage of people
and/or steal information. However, many schools are against screen free week and are saying that
social media and electronics can be good for not only self esteem but, can help people learn too! Yet,
more than a thousand people are doing it world wide, and are working to help convince others to join
the international celebration of screen free week. As a result, screen free week can help increase social
interaction between teens, get rid of the everyday destruction of electronics in school, and help
increase privacy among peers. Many websites such as, facebook and instagram can help people make
new, valued friendships and assist people with communicating worldwide but, there is a new

Difference Between New England And The Chesapeake Colonies
The difference between the colonies of New England and the Chesapeake region were many. First,
they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different reasons for doing so. For the Chesapeake
colonies, including Virginia and Maryland, profit was the aim. After the introduction of tobacco to
Europe by Columbus at the end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and steadily growing
demand for the crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the Americas for the purpose
of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of New England were set up
primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that sought profit in New England, most
settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship. English separatists, who vehemently disagreed with the
way the Church of England was set up, left Holland and came to America on the Mayflower. They
landed in modern Massachusetts and established the Plymouth Colony. Rhode Island was also
founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow dissenters were exiled from
Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and members of other minority
religions. A second difference in the colonies of the Chesapeake and of New England comes in the
basis of their economies. As mentioned above, Virginia was founded in order to grow tobacco.
Maryland s foremost crop was also tobacco. Also, the way tobacco was cultivated was important to
the Chesapeake colonies. Plantation owners were in

C47 Pilots Research Paper
Airborne: The Survival Story of a C 47 Pilot
I tripped and fell as fire rained down around me. My tour boat was burning and I could do nothing. I
steeled my nerves as I jumped overboard into the oily water. Just before I smacked onto the surface, I
woke up in a cold sweat. I had been having nightmares since the bombings of Pearl Harbor. I was
utterly terrified on that day, especially as it was my first encounter with the Japanese air force. I was
beginning to realize the true horrors of the war that now gripped America. I had always wanted to be a
pilot, and the chance was offered through the US Air Force. It seemed awesome at first, but after the
attack on Pearl harbor, I was beginning to have some regrets about my choice.
I was pondering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One, where was Frank, and two, it seemed much quieter than we d expected from the German
defenses. I then saw tracer shells light up the night all around me. I saw my old friend Frank fire
several more shells before deploying his emergency eject. He had given up my position and turned to
the side of the Germans. I sat there for a few more seconds recovering from my shock, but then that
shock turned to white hot anger. I could not believe that Frank would do such a thing! Then, as I
began to wonder about why he had done it, the first flak burst hit near my plane. It terrified me to no
end, and at that moment, I almost gave up and accepted my fate. I then remembered my other friends
and paratroopers. I had to win this for them, for Tom, and for all of the other lives that were already
lost in the assault. I turned my plane around and began the maneuvers that I had been taught to evade
flak fire. Somehow, the flak kept finding me. One of my engines was hit directly, and I realized that I
would have to jump. Terror gripped me as I desperately looked for the emergency parachute. I then
realized that an earlier burst must have destroyed it. My eyes then fell on Tom s torn parachute. By
now, the plane had begun a shallow dive which I had no control over, and I did not have much time. I
jumped out of the cockpit and ran to the parachute. The plane then hit massive turbulence and I fell
over. I crawled to the

This suggests that the target audience for these two particular adverts is women, who are possibly very conscientious about their appearance and who typically have a salary, therefore will be able to afford the products being advertised. Demonstrate your familiarity with the discussion set out in the course materials. Introduction The publication of the Unfair Advantage by the Worker s Freedom of Association in the United States saw a major turn on Human Rights watch in the Labour ministry all over the world. Countries such as Canada and Australia came into the lime light in the fight for labour struggles as human rights. This move was aimed at revitalization of the labour movement. It is a move that saw the International Human Rights Day declared a holiday as it is does Labour Day. The advocates on the human rights approach work hand in hand with the human rights allies of the inexorable internationalization of the labour struggles. They allowed the naming and shaming of the labour laws abusers and infringement. These acts were more responsive to the current political and economic zeitgeist than the traditional labour influences. On the other hand, reframing of human rights was seen to result to authoritativeness to the labour discourse that would undermine trade unionists. While the voices of those advocating for the framing of human rights was loud enough, others saw this move as misplaced. It was a fact that the replacement of solidarity and the unity that was the anchor for labour justice would be gone. It simply meant the end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No scientific theory is ratified without serious consideration and careful observation. Science is the pursuit of what can be proven false and the resulting assumptions of what must be true. The problem that plagues Sir Popper is the clear definition of science and pseudoscience. Though the empirical method is common to both, the level of inferential data varies greatly. One can amass large amounts of data by observing human behavior, but data alone is not the stuff of scientific theory. Theories must be assembled fusing factual data, and inducive reasoning. The point of induction seems to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By setting out to validate an assumption, we determine the outcome of any challenge to that assumption. Kuhn reiterates this in his works on Copernicus. Though Copernicus firmly believes that the earth is not the center of the universe, he is hesitant to disclose his theories. He knows that any experimentation will be done with the assumption that man is the center, and therefore determine the outcome before experiments even begin. The next conclusion Popper declares is that the more rigorous the testing of a theory, the stronger it will become. During the scientific revolution, mathematicians like Kepler and astronomers like Brahe went to great lengths to improve the accuracy of experiments. Rather than formulate volumes of calculations, Kepler struggled to improve upon the accuracy of Copernicus work. The fruits of his labors were observations accurate within four degrees, and led to the theory of eliptical orbits. Brahe, with the aid of new optical equipment such as the astrolabe, set a new standard for accurate depiction of planetary bodies and their actions. The progression of these thoughts brings us to another of his conclusions. Testing has degrees of accuracy which must be optimized to truly proclaim a theory. In summary, a scientific theory must be falsifiable, refutable, and testable. In revision of his postulates, Popper alludes to a few interesting concepts on the nature of scientific thought. RDV RDV matches the Russell Australia High Dividend Index; its investments are primarily in large, well established firms such as financials and property trusts (highest of the four ETFs). How does one assign value to human life, or time, or artistic pleasures such as literature and music? Mill s response was to introduce variables to pleasure. While Bentham concentrated on quantity (the pleasure s duration, intensity, etc), Mill stressed quality. Adding the feature of quality to pleasure differentiates higher , intellectual pleasures from common, physical ones. Personal Is Political According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, political is defined as a situation that relates to the government or the public arrangements and rulings for a country ( political ). Political can also be viewed as the means and processes in which a country is able to govern their citizens and for them to do same for the government. The political agenda can relate to the lives of an individual person when it impedes on their natural rights. This can seen in many cases where a personal experience or condition influences the choices of an individual. There has also been debate about if the personal needs to be kept separate from politics to make unbiased choices. Two examples of this topic of debate is the separation of church and state, and the ethics of war and combat. However, the personal is political argument opposes this idea by stating that the personal interests and experience of an individual can be used to shape a country s political and social agenda (Harutyunyan 50). Using the argument of personal is political it can be shown that one s experiences with their own body and psyche can help shed light on specific political and social issues in a country such as veteran disability and mental illness. The captain visits the elders and tells them about his dream, once they know what the person needs in order to get better, the whole clan helps to find that object. Both poems explore how relationships are affected by mental health issues. In The Farmer s Bride , the Farmer marries a girl without getting to know her. As the marriage progresses, the wife s mental illness gradually develops at first she turn[s] afraid , until she tries to run away, and will only speak to animals. This causes the farmer to become jealous, impatient and possibly mentally unstable. In the fourth stanza, the farmer describes his wife as she is to nature ... Simon Armitage repeats the phrase only then five times throughout The Manhunt . He also juxtaposes the phrases passionate nights and intimate days . This suggests that the love was not just physical but also emotional. The lake is heated by thermal springs which keep the water at 35°C and allow for the lake to be used as a bath. The water contains numerous minerals and salts and is the home of the largest colony of bats in the region. I selected this site because I love the Carlsbad Caverns here in the United States and I thought that it would be interesting to visit a place that is popular with the local population. I have always been fascinated by the rock formations that form in old Caverns and how you are able to just how old a place is by looking at the sedimentary layers present. While at the Cave I would like to tour all the different parts that I am able as well as to swim in the lake. I think that this will impact my understanding and experience of the country because I will be able to see what it is like to be a landlocked country that has very little access to large bodies of water. In third world countries, this can pose a huge threat, because lots of people can get sick from drinking water. SODIS is a method used by many in undeveloped countries as means of attaining microbe free water. It involves allowing water to stay exposed to sunlight in order to kill whatever microbes are living in it. For this experiment, microbial diversity was determined by collecting a sample of water of different from shaded water and water directly hit by the sunlight. Microbes were then cultured for 7 days. The abundance of the different colony types was then counted. Results exhibited that the community from the light area was more biodiverse. It was concluded that a possible reason for this is due to the different structures of bacteria, allowing some of them to sustain the light and others to be restricted by it. Since SODIS relies on light to kill microorganisms, it should be accompanied by another method that will also kill the bacteria that may survive in the water after being treated in the sunlight. Introduction Microbes are any organism that can t be seen with the naked eye. They can be classified as bacteria, protists, fungi and sometimes even parasites. Many different types of microbes can exist within a community, which means that they have the potential to have a high species diversity (Reece et. al. 2014). Showing clear signs of segregation in the education system. Many education writers have much to say about the education taking place in our public schools, as well as Kozol. For Instance Diane Ravitch a research professor of education at New York University spoke about an interesting truth, saying, The achievement gaps are rooted in social, political, and economic structures. If we are unwilling to change the root cause, we are unlikely ever to close the gaps. The success of our children s education is mainly caused by economic, social and political statue. If one does not end the cycle the gap will most likely never close. This may tie in with when Kozol cites Marina Warner, an essayist and novelist, saying, There are expensive children and there ... From the beginning of the movie, one of the things that becomes readily apparent is that Motoko is somewhat objectified in her repeated removal of clothing to bare her thermoptic camoflaged skin. In the manga, she WORE clothing to achieve this effect. Even this creation of her as a sexual object seems to point to the commodification of the body as spare parts put together, and resultant ownership by the creators of the body, rather than the individuals who inhabit them. If the objectification of women is a state of separation of the women and their bodies (and in fact the act of doing this a means of ownership by the male), then there is really very little difference between Motoko as a sexual object and Motoko as property of the government. The Mafia of the Prohibition Era Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated crime in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started quite earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to continued rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the 20th as over 500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated to the cities of the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization known as Costra Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia. In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group known as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from such invaders. First, they settlers who immigrated to the new world had different reasons for doing so. For the Chesapeake colonies, including Virginia and Maryland, profit was the aim. After the introduction of tobacco to Europe by Columbus at the end of the fifteenth century, there was a large and steadily growing demand for the crop. Investors in England decided to set up colonies in the Americas for the purpose of growing and profiting from tobacco. On the other hand, the colonies of New England were set up primarily for religious reasons. Although there were some that sought profit in New England, most settlers sought liberty and freedom of worship. English separatists, who vehemently disagreed with the way the Church of England was set up, left Holland and came to America on the Mayflower. They landed in modern Massachusetts and established the Plymouth Colony. Rhode Island was also founded on a religious basis after Roger Williams and his fellow dissenters were exiled from Massachusetts. It became a haven for Quakers, Jews, Baptists and members of other minority religions. A second difference in the colonies of the Chesapeake and of New England comes in the basis of their economies.
