Impact of minimum wage law.
In this paper I m going to answer the following questions with regards to the situation when a higher
minimum wage is enacted: will the number of workers hired change? why? what might be an
unintended consequence of a higher minimum wage law designed to help low income workers? To
further entail other requirements, this paper is aimed to be at least a 1 2 page, font size 12, double
spaced, Times New Roman font, and lastly, include a reference list.
The results of implementation of minimal wage law can be assessed using demand and supply curves.
A demand curve defines the quantity of products at certain prices which are required by all market
players. It is normally used (together with supply curve) to determine equilibrium price and
equilibrium amount of a certain good or service which is required by ... Show more content on

According to OpenStax, Principles of Economics it can be a change in income, population, tastes,
prices of substitutes or complements, or expectations about future prices. All these variables modify
the amount of demanded product at all costs. It is possible that the demand curve shifts to the left or
the right. The movement to the right happens when the amount of required good is increased at any
price compared to the initial position. Conversely, a shift to the left occurs when the amount of
demanded good is decreased at all costs compared to the original position.
The minimal wage law in fact is a price floor which limits employers from decrease the salary lover
certain level. After the implementation of price floor it is expected that the amount of hired employees
will be decreased. The reason for it is an excess supply or surplus of labor work. Let s imagine such
situation the equilibrium wage is $5 per hour and the city hires 1000 workers

who still don t murder each other nearly as frequently. In the end, Moore asks a lot of questions about

Essay On The Role Of Stock Markets
The Role of Stock Markets According to Alfaro, Chanda, Kalemli Ozcan, Sayek (2004) stock markets
play a vital role as they allow investors to buy and sell shares in publicly traded companies. They are
one of the most vital areas of a market economy as they provide companies with access to capital and
investors with a slice of ownership in the company and the potential of gains based on the company s
future performance. Stock markets generally reflect the economic conditions of an economy, Alfaro,
Chanda, Kalemli Ozcan, Sayek (2004). If an economy is growing then output will be increasing and
most firms should be experiencing increased profitability. This higher profit makes the company
shares more attractive because they can give bigger dividends to shareholders. If the economy is
forecast to enter into a recession, then stock markets will generally fall. This is because a recession
means lower profits, less dividends and even the prospect of firms going bankrupt, which would be
bad news for shareholders. The Role of Over the counter Markets According to Duffie, Gârleanu,
Pedersen (2005) over the counter (OTC) markets serve as a type of secondary market also referred to
as a dealer market (The secondary market is where investors purchase securities or assets from other
investors, rather than from issuing companies themselves). This generally means that the stock are
traded either on the over the counter bulletin board (OTCBB) or the pink sheets .The

How Does Beowulf Fight
When Beowulf fights, he always has a reason. Beowulf is a strong, brave and heroic figure to the
Danes. He is always looking to protect them. Beowulf encounters three fights and uses different
methods, techniques, and weapons for each one. He uses these to show that sometimes doing the same
thing over again doesn t always work.
Beowulf s first fight was against his greatest enemy, Grendel. The fight starts out with Beowulf,
looking for Grendel, and finding him. When he finds Grendel, he attacks. Beowulf has come to kill the
beast that has been terrorizing his people. The fight goes on until Beowulf, with his superhuman
strength, tears off Grendel s arm. Grendel is left badly wounded. He knows he cannot fight anymore
and heads back to his home to die. Grendel s death was probably Beowulf s greatest victory.
The second fight Beowulf had was with Grendel s mother. Beowulf is looking to do the same with
Grendel s mother as he did with Grendel. He goes underwater looking for her in her cave. As Beowulf
is heading towards her cave, she suddenly attacks him and drags him down to her cave. Beowulf tries
to strike at her with his sword but misses. He gets angry and charges at her with his bare hands.

When fighting Grendel, Beowulf uses a method of finding Grendel and killing him so his people will
not have worry anymore. He also does it to earn more fame. This shows his strength. Before Beowulf

sword he finds to kill Grendel s mother. He also uses it to cut off Grendel s head. When he does it he
wins the trophy of Grendel s head. During Beowulf s last fight he uses the method of never giving up
on a fight when presented. Beowulf shows his death. He always wanted to be the hero his people

Mcintosh s Argument Towards The Idea Of The Invisible...
To answer this question, I will be confirming McIntosh s argument towards the ideas of the invisible
knapsack by using instances from my life. I agree with McIntosh s statement of how as a white person
we typically carry around this baggage of these unearned assets of which we have no clue we really
carry1. The idea that myself, as a white woman, carry around this invisible knapsack is astonishing,
yet true. I never knew how entitled I appeared to be as a white woman. However, thinking back on
experiences throughout my life I carried around that knapsack since the beginning. When I was a
young girl starting head start there were some different races in my classroom. However, the colored
girls were always off doing rather boring activities aside from us white girls. I had an invisible
knapsack privilege at that time to have more joy in a school activity due to the color of my skin. A
different time would be closer to today. Over the past summer, I was selected to be one of the students
to go on a trip with a firm to Chicago. While at Chicago we were in groups, and in my group from the
Tulsa office was only one colored person. At the time I did not think anything of it. Although, when
we arrive in Chicago and met numerous high level firm members none of those do I recall being a
person of color.

Current Events Of Olympic Athletes

Current events
Olympic athletes inspire the masses with stories of triumph over adversity. They are viewed as regular
people with an Olympic dream. But Olympic athletes are only able to attract attention to them and
their accomplishments once every four years when the Games take place. That is why they must take
their careers into their own hands. Through the use of social media, athletes can build a fan base and
make themselves constantly relevant.
NBC, which is the sole broadcaster for the Olympic Games in the Unites States, claims that their
primetime Olympic broadcasts bring attention to the best athlete stories regardless of gender. During

Industry growth
The individual sports industry has continually shown growth due to the enormous increase in media
exposure, particularly via cable channels dedicated to individual sports, to meet the demands of avid
fans. The Olympics, in particular, have achieved increasing popularity over the past five years as a
result of the industry s growing social media presence and the broadcasting of events through online
streaming. It is anticipated that the industry will continue to grow as many sports increase their
broadcasting muscle through these new media channels.
Industry trends
Individual athletes are the stars of the sports industry and represent the second largest industry
segment. They are expected to continue to hold celebrated influence through a variety of
endorsements in the next five years. However, athletes also run a higher risk of failure based on the
competitive nature of their particular sports.
Olympians generate about 27 percent of the individual sports industry s total revenue. They also offer
the biggest example of sponsorship deals. At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, the United States

What Factors Contribute to Infant Mortality in Developed...
What factors contribute to infant mortality in developed and less developed countries?
Infant mortality is the number of deaths among live born infants from birth to under age one
(Sidscenter.org, n.d.). According to a National Vital Statistics Report in 2006, the leading causes of
Infant Mortality in the U.S. were deformities, low birth weight, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome,
maternal complications, unintentional injuries, respiratory distress of the newborn, bacterial sepsis,
neonatal haemorrhage and diseases of the circulatory system (Heron, M.P., Murphy, S.L., Xu, J.Q.,

What Are The Similarities Between Michelangelo And...
I have chosen to compare and contrast the two David s, sculpted by two different individuals,
Michelangelo and Donatello. Although both sculptures look extremely different they both carry
various correlations to each other. Both artist were very famous during the renaissances time period
and both should be deeply appreciated for their artwork. This paper shall compare the two David s
from each artist, explaining the key differences and stunning similarities. Michelangelo crafted his,
David, during the time period of 1501 1505, which is now located in the Galleria dell Accademia,
Florence. While Donatello s, David, was made approximately during the time of 1446 1460(?), and is

Both David s present a very warrior like construct and seems like they are ready for war. Although,
Donatello s David looks as though he has already finished his fight. Donatello s David stands and can
look a bit more feminine especially the way his hand is bent onto his hips and the way he wears his hat
on top of his longer hair. Also Donatello portrays his figure to look very much younger than to what
Michelangelo s David looks like. Nonetheless since Donatello s David seems too look like it took
place after a fight, the figure is shown to have one foot proudly on top of his opponents head, Goliath,
which in Donatello s David, he strikes Goliath with a sword while Michelangelo s used a sling and
stone to his head. Unlike Donatello s David, Michelangelo s looks as if he has not attacked yet, but
looks more as if he strategizing how he will do so. Michelangelo s sculpture portrays a more
masculine figure and shorter hair and without a sword, as he holds a rock in one hand and a sling in
another. Both David s carry similar stories of how they had slain the giant Goliath, although how they
had done it and the way they portray such task are extremely

Literary Analysis OfThe Goldfinch, By Donna Tartt
The story in the novel The Goldfinch, written by Donna Tartt, begins even before Tartt s writing
begins. Upon opening the novel, the first sentence present is a quote by Albert Camus, stating, The
absurd does not liberate, it binds . Even before beginning this novel, the meaning of this quote shines
through; the peculiar things that happen in life are what bring people together, a fate is not necessarily
a punishment. This quote begins the first section of the novel and gives great meaning to it as the
protagonist quickly learns that his world does not end just because his mother s does. At the beginning
of the novel, the protagonist, Theo Decker is introduced in his hotel room in Amsterdam, feeling
lonesome and miserable. Shortly after the introduction, the point of view is changed from this older
version of Theo to a much younger, thirteen year old Theo. At this point in time, Theo explains about
the death of his mother, the woman whom he regarded most highly. While on their way to a meeting
with the principal of Theo s school due to his poor behaviour, the two stop at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. Theo s mother, Audrey is extremely passionate about art and her favourite painting is
entitled The Goldfinch , painted by Carel Fabritius. In stopping to examine the painting, Theo thinks
to himself It was a direct and matter of fact little creature, with nothing sentimental about it; and
something about the neat, compact way it tucked down inside itself its brightness, its alert watchful
expression made me think of pictures I d seen of my mother ... a dark capped finch with steady eyes
(Tartt 27). This moment is important because it displays Theo s kind hearted, innocent and observant
nature. By comparing his mother to the painting she loves the most, and by finding the good in the
painting, despite being plain, Theo demonstrates his innocence and ability to be observant. This
comparison between the bird in the painting and his mother leads to the development of a symbol
throughout the novel. While in the museum, a terrorist attack occurs. Bombs are set off and multiple
explosions occur in the gift shop of the museum, where Audrey is. Fortunately for Theo, who is
entranced by a strange looking,

Perseverance Reflection
When I first started to think about what the theme of my lesson was going to be, I immediately
thought about my preschool and pre k students that I work with on a daily basis. What are they
learning now? What are some important concepts in life that haven t been taught in depth? What
concept can be difficult to comprehend without implementing drama? These were just some of the
many questions that were going through my head. When I first came across the book The Most
Magnificent Thing by Ashley Speirs, I immediately was captured by the theme of perseverance in the
book. The week that I found the book, I had been working with a student who was trying to complete
a puzzle and she was getting frustrated. I sat down with her and encouraged her to continue trying and
with a little help she completed the puzzle. The look on her face when she completed that puzzle was
electrifying. She was so excited and so proud of herself when she finally fit that last piece into the
puzzle. This experience helped me when choosing the topic of my monologue because when I came
across the book, I realized that the concept of perseverance would be a perfect concept to teach
through the integration of drama. One reason, I felt like the integration of drama would be so useful in
teaching this concept was that many students are probably able to comprehend the definition of
perseverance, but what does perseverance look like? How does it feel when you persevere? That is
where I thought integrating drama

For my extra credit project, I decided to shine a little light on the situation of my baby brothers birth.

on the higher side of the rating spectrum, yet she continues to aim higher. Lacie is always giving full
ratings to everyone regardless of their status but pays particular attention to those who have more
stars. The difference between giving high status individuals good ratings and mid range individuals is
the hopes that they return the favour. Trying to achieve too much too quickly will not result in good

She never lets her guard down when it comes to her social media ratings. To continue increasing her
ratings, she is adamant on socializing with high status people. By applying Erving Goffman s
impression management, it is evident that there are multiple ways that Lacie uses to avoid public
shaming and embarrassment. Goffman s concept shows different situations that can be avoidable as
long as people present themselves in a certain way. When an individual is in public, it is best to be
continuously updated with recent events. Once out of the loop, that can result in public embarrassment
because the knowledge that has been applied is outdated and cannot compete with the newer
information. When shame is brought, there can be actions to avoid them such as changing the subject
or in Lacie s situation, sending full ratings in hopes of avoiding embarrassment and to save face.
Shame is a very hard thing to accept and it can change a person s life drastically. It is the difference
between having the highest rating and hitting rock bottom. Achieving a higher status is easy, but being
stripped of your status is just as simple. Before going out in public, an update on knowledge can be
done to avoid embarrassment and it can also be a conversation starter showing how much attention is
being paid to someone. The person showing attention can feel a sense of success as a result of being
constantly updated on social media, while the

Nina Simone Contributions
The 1960s marked a period of social unrest and frustration over civil liberties for black Americans.
The dominant figures of the Civil Rights movement were often male political and social leaders such
as Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr. However, during this period music became an inseparable
part of the Civil Rights movement. The civil rights and protest music had a remarkable influence on
the freedom movements by spreading the political and social messages rooted in the movement.
Consequently, musical artists also became dominant sources of leadership and influence. Nina Simone
led an influential and successful life as a musical artist, especially during the civil rights movement.
Her music fused genres of classical, soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz to create a completely unique,
uncategorizable style of music. Her contralto voice and distinguished musical style made her easily
recognizable and popular to a diverse, global audience during the 60s and 70s. Although Simone is
often omitted from historical recounts of the civil rights movement, her songs are incredibly
significant to the turbulent times as they promoted a sense of black pride and projected the frustration
and anger over the oppression of black Americans, especially black women. Simone had dreams of
becoming a classical pianist which were never reached. Despite these unobtained goals, Simone was
able to become an eminent musical artist that always carried herself with the utmost honesty,
dedication, and

The women took on responsibility such as spinning fabrics, cooking, and caring for the children.
Jacob s main role with his children were to teach the boys good pasturing when they became of age,
along with the ways and religion of his father, and his father s father. Dinah being the only girl was
treated very differently than the boys because she did not go out into the field with her father to learn
the skills that he had to offer. Instead, she stayed in the camp with her mothers and was even permitted
into the red tent to learn the stories of her mother s during her youth. In fact, the first time she recalled
her father ever speaking directly to her was just before the left on their trip to Canaan. As the red tent

was introduced to new family dynamics unlike her own. Men and women from her mother s culture
did not eat with their husbands, or have any real relationship at all with them. Whereas in Egypt, men
and women would sit down beside each other at meals. Husbands would kiss upon their wife s hands

Into Thin Air Book Report
NON FICTION Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer What prior knowledge did you bring to the reading that
helped you understand the book? Be sure to choose a specific part of the book to support your answer.
Before reading this book, I had already been aware of the countless dangers of Mt. Everest. Last
summer I read a book about Mt. Everest much like this one in the state that both were spoken through
personal accounts, and both used constant detail to express the horrible and painful experiences that
both authors had to go through. This prior knowledge helped better my understanding of this book
because I was aware of the common occurrences that can take place while climbing Mt. Everest, and
the gruesome circumstances that go with it. During the eighth chapter, readers become aware of a
horrible condition that a character is dealing with. By the time he arrived at the tents late that
afternoon Ngawang was delirious, stumbling like a drunk, and coughing up pink, blood laced froth
(Krakauer 113). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 2, Jon gives readers background information about Mt. Everest, and in it contains a quote
about us as humans. Once Everest was determined to be the highest summit on earth, it was only a
matter of time before people decided that Everest needed to be climbed (Krakauer 16). This quote
basically sums up the human race. Once somebody tells you something is impossible, you are going to
try harder to fulfill it. Jon is an example of this because through all of the hard work and pain he
experienced throughout the expedition, he wanted to achieve this goal for himself, rather than just for
the magazine he was working for. Like this quote, there are many others throughout the book that

The Discovery Of The Guatemalan Archives
The latter part of this course, we read Kristen Weld s book Paper Cadavers. This book captured the
importance of the discovery of the Guatemalan archives. An intense amount of work was put into
recovering approximately 80 million documents from the government after decades of internal
warfare. This reconstruction of public memory was extremely important for those involved in
recovering and sifting through the documents, the families and friends who lost people during the civil
war, to Guatemala and the discovery also held significance international (Weld). A few years later in
March of 2008 files were seized by the Colombian Armed Forced during a raid. These archives
belonged to the insurgent group called The Revolutionary Armed Forced of Colombia People s Army
or FARC. The files belonged personally to Raul Reyes (a leader of FARC) who was killed during the
raid along with 24 other insurgent members (Walser). This led to some controversy about the files
later on. The Colombian Armed Forces handed over the archives to Interpol, so they could be decoded
and analyzed. These two sets of documents are different discoveries of public memory that impacted
lives as public memory was reconstructed. They exposed human rights violations through their
(re)discovery and release to the public. The files taken from FARC were handed straight to Interpol
for forensic investigation. In total there were eight computers that were seized. Interpol found that
none of the documents recovered

External Influences Of Operations Management
Evaluate the Response of Operations Management to External Influences
Operations Management
Operations Management in an organisation is repsonsible for managing and in making decisions
concerning the activities that convert inputs into outputs , that is goods and services. This covers both
short term actvities as well as longer term activities to meet strategic goals. Inputs can be the raw
materaials need to manufacture goods such as furniture or the computers needed to create a service
like online shopping site. Operation management s role is to make decisions to improve how operation
activities function, for example, to improve the final quality of the output or to change production
methods to be more efficient in terms of cost and in time.
The role of operations management is vital in planning and managing the way that inputs for the
business are transformed. Ultimately, operations management is trying to achieve a competitive
advantage for their organisation through improved efficiencies, product quality, reduction of cost and
product differentiation.
Figure 1 Operations Management is key in the transformation process
External Influences
All businesses are affected by a series of external forces or influences. These influences may also
change over time and hence the way they interreact with an organisation can also change. Operations
Management will use a variery of measurements to monitor external influences to help them respond
to these changes, for example, at times of slow hire rates for employees in time of high employment,
operation Management may re train other internal staff to make up shortfalls [Kydos, P29].
External influences cover a wide variety of factors, and their influence can differ between business
types. These include the following:
Globalisation
Technology
Customer quality expectations
Legal Regulations
Government Policies
Environment sustainability
Cost based competition
Corporate social responsibility
Quality Expectations
Some examples of external influences are now examined in detail.
Globalisation

movement of goods and services. Globalisation

Mass Destruction Research Paper
While weapons of mass destruction may not pose as much of a threat as they did in the early 2000s,
they are still in use to this day, with the added possibility of more being created in the future. Should
we continue to neglect and ignore the imminent threat of WMDs, the world could cease to exist as we
know it. As someone who has participated in Model UN the past two years, I have been required to do
extensive research on weapons of mass destruction and their effects. As a result, I have learned quite a
bit about WMDs and how their coverage in the media has drastically decreased since the early 2000s,
yet their threat is still present. The height of media coverage on WMDs came in the early 2000s due to
the Iraq Disarmament Crisis. WMDs drew in massive media attention due to ... Show more content on

While nuclear weapons are universally known as a weapon of mass destruction, they are not the only
type. Other types of weapons of mass destruction include, radiological, chemical, and biological.
While nuclear weapons may be the most known, biological and chemical weapons are more
commonly used. To this day, chemical and biological weapons continue to be used in the Syrian Civil
War. Specifically, Chlorine and mustard gas have been used on all sides of the civil war, and in most
cases, despite the possible harm to civilians. The official website of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation defines WMDs as any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas weapon that is designed with
the intent to cause death or serious bodily injury. While some may claim that weapons of mass
destruction do not pose as much of a threat today as they did in the early 2000s, I disagree. While it
may be true that weapons of mass destruction do not receive the amount of media coverage they used
to, that does not decrease the threat they pose at all. The threat of nuclear and chemical and biological

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Analysis
As I stated in the abstract, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the unexpected death of a healthy infant
in its sleep usually under the age of one. It is also known as crib death because the death usually
occurs in the crib. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome claims the lives of approximately 2,500 infants
each year. The majority of SIDS deaths occur between 2 and 4 month year olds. The cause of SIDS is
unknown in infants under one, but for infants over the age of one, there is a cause. A few of the causes
of SIDS include: smoking or drinking during pregnancy, inadequate prenatal responsibility,
prematurity, inexperienced mothers, smoking near or around the baby, enormous amounts of heating
from blankets or pajamas, and placing a baby on its stomach (Floyd R. Livingston Jr., MD. Sudden
Infant Death Syndrome. KidsHealth. 2014. Web).
The reason why the cause is unknown in infants less than one year old is due to the fact that a
thorough investigation cannot be performed since the baby is too young. If, however, the baby is over
one year, there can be an investigation. This usually includes an autopsy, a thorough investigation of
the death, and an examination of the infant s health. Also, another cause of SIDS can include
suffocation of the baby. This usually happens when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wizarding Vs Muggle Astronomy
Astronomy is, of course, the study of the universe. However, as broad range as that observation is, I
believe that Astronomy is, when it comes down to it, the study of what makes up the universe this
includes the planets, the stars, the galaxies, the Sun, the Moon, and everything else that the universe
encompasses.
The differences between Muggle Astronomy and Wizarding Astronomy are not as vast as one might
believe, but the differences do exist. Muggle Astronomy has been around for a relatively long time,
but so too has Wizarding Astronomy. However, Wizards have taken the advancements made by
Muggles without their knowledge, of course and used them to further the advancement of Astronomy
in the Wizarding world, and sometimes vice versa. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owing to the fact that the rings reflect around 80% of the sunlight which hits them, it is believed by
astronomers that the rings are comprised of ice. An interesting thing to note is that these rings have an
atmosphere which is independent of Saturn s own atmosphere. The atmosphere comprised by the rings
is composed of oxygen and hydrogen gas, and which is created when light from the Sun interacts with
the ice particles.
Planet 7: Uranus
The seventh planet Uranus, is one of the Jovian planets and is classified both as a Gas Giant and as an
Ice Giant. Uranus is the Greek God of the Sky. An interesting feature of Uranus is that its axis of
rotation leans almost 90 degrees to one side, making it appear to be tipped over .
The orbital rotation of this planet is half of a Uranus year and as a result of its axis, the north pole will
point almost directly towards the sun. When the Uranus year is through, the south pole will take the
North pole s place, facing the Sun. A full rotation around the Sun is once every 17.2 hours, and in 84

Passion comes to people over time, it can come from the simplest of things such as fishing or even

Instead of judging these individuals, we need to take a step back and try to understand from their

A Look at Ethical Perspectives Essay example
A Look at Ethical Perspectives While it would be nice to think that it is easy to make decisions and all
come to the same conclusion, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, even regarding ethical
decisions where you may think a right and wrong way exist may not be easy to determine. Since
everyone has different backgrounds and therefore, different perspectives, we may not agree on what
the best course of action is to take in a difficult decision. While I believe that character is the most
important, someone else may think that as long as the majority is satisfied that their decision is best.
An exercise created by the Williams Institute for Ethics and Management looks at four different

trust, he would go to Matt. Not every decision is this easy to make, but through study and close
attention to mistakes made by myself and others, I am able to increase the wisdom needed to give a
virtuous answer.
Obligation
The names of the perspectives speak mostly for themselves. Obligation is making sure that the
decision that is made is fair to all and that everyone is treated as equals (Weiss, 2006). The thought is
that we should have a duty to all humanity. This however, presents a challenge when attempting to
make a prompt decision and having to analyze the consequences that it will have on everyone. When
choices are made from this perspective, an individual may not use his or her first thought of what is
right or wrong, but instead what they think the majority of people would identify as being right.
Generally this would be very similar to the character perspective as considering the effect on society
as a whole would be an honest choice; however, this may not always be the case. When I consider
integrity, I think of Godly values which are occasionally distorted by society due to man believing that
he knows what is best.
Results
In most business decisions, organizations have to determine if the ends justify the means. This is the
correct method most of the time, but may not be acceptable in all ethical decisions. However, someone

Boston Tea Party Essay
Boston Tea Party Historical Society As a little girl, I believed that The Boston Tea Party was just that,
a tea party. But it was not just any tea party that I had envisioned; it was the most decedent tea party to
ever grace the earth. It had everything, from hand painted china to crisp white table clothes. There
were over a hundred varieties of tea, each one having been imported from a different location. China,
France, Italy, England, you name it. The women that attended this tea party were well above average;
they were wealthy, upper class ladies who were perfectly poised. Each one arrived to the tea in a
carriage fit for a princess and pulled by a beautifully well kept horse. All the women wore brand new
ball gowns and white satin gloved. The whole event was a complete fairy tale that would never be
forgotten. After growing up a little more and actually learning about The Boston Tea Party in school,
my perspective had completely changed. I no longer viewed it as a fancy party, but instead, as an
event that greatly impacted American history. Back in the year 1773, the East India Company was
experiencing some major financial issues and because they played such a large role in Britain s
economy, England immediately wanted to help resolve the issue. In hopes of fixing the East India
Companies financial problems, The English Parliament decided to pass The Tea Act in the colonies.

The Tragedy Of William Shakespeare s Othello
In this life that we live, many different individuals go about their business without considering the
individual struggles that they have to deal with. According to dictionary.com, a struggle is defined as,
a forceful/violent attempt or effort to get free from restraint or contrition . Some of these personal
struggles are more pronounced than other. From Othello, the tragedy by William Shakespeare, we can
see how humans are faced with individual contentions, and their daily actions are ways and efforts of
trying to free themselves. In the discussion below we consider Othello s struggle with being different,
gullibility, timidity, inferiority, pride and selfishness and Iago s conniving personality, hate, greed,
manipulation, selfishness and slander
Talking about human contrition, Othello s life is without doubt as presented, is with many great
successes. He is introduced as a great soldier with many victories and a reputable general from a royal
family, From men of royal siege, and my demerits , (1.11.21). Notwithstanding such achievements, he
struggles with the fact that he is a black moor among the Venetian whites. This aspect of difference
makes him stand out but also as an easy target. Additionally, either because of his origin or his
upbringing Othello comes as one struggling with gullibility. When he saw Cassio leave the company
of Desdemona, other than calling him back to confirm whether it was he, he dismisses it saying, I don

The Legacy Of Claudius Nero By Marcus Tullius Cicero
Salus populi suprema lex esto. These words, first coined by Marcus Tullius Cicero, represent the
height of the ideals in the system which we Roman senators live and embody. They translate to the
Greek: The safety of the people is the highest law (Cicero c.50BC, 241), which is not soon forgotten,
despite the banishment and subsequent death of Cicero. A titanic figure in his time, we can only
imagine the outcry he would have given the trials and tribulations that have plagued us in recent times,

people as Tiberius.

He was a fine military commander, doing merit unto his adoptive father, Augustus, time and time
again, slaughtering untold numbers of barbarians and bringing civilisation and Roman values to the

and have been recorded many times over, the Gallic tribes quake with fear at the mention of his name
to this day. Tiberius was, however, as adept an administrator as he was a commander, and it was, in
actuality, this value that led him to be so successful with his expeditions (Tacitus c.100AD, 119).
As Tiberius aged, he appeared to become ever more morose, his dour and grim complexion
characterising him and polarising the views held by his supporters and critics alike (Boak 1965, 301).
This change in disposition can be largely attributed to his forced divorce from his beloved wife,
Vispania, and subsequent marriage to Augustus daughter, Julia (Bradley 1990, 539). Contrary to many
contemporary opinions, Julia was very nearly as intelligent and cunning as Tiberius himself, her one
fault being perhaps her adulterous nature, and it was for this that Tiberius scorned her (Bradley 1990,
540). It was through marriage, and a most honourable marriage for myself, that I became connected
with Tiberius on a more intimate level. My bride was none other than a cousin of Tiberius, of the

throughout the areas of Asia Minor and Greece. Through his 3 mission trips to the region Paul created
a base of support for the Christian faith and implemented a support strategy for future growth. The
time period for his journeys was 45 AD 58 AD. The story of Paul is interesting from the perspective
that the man best known as the author of most of the New Testament started out as a devout Jew and
despised the Christian faith. After his conversion he made it his life s work to spread the Christian

The Evolution Of Greek Theater
The Evolution of Greek Theater Greek theater can be considered to be one of the building blocks for
our theater today. The advancements that the Greeks possessed in the early fifth century were the start
of western theater. The Greeks were heavily involved with religion and religious festivals, comedies,
tragedies, climatic drama, and took the outdoor amphitheater and made many improvements to its
structure. In Ancient Greece religion and theater went hand in hand. The Greeks developed religion
that was based on worship of many Gods. In honor of the Gods there were festivals with dancing,
music, and theatrical performances. During the festivals the whole city would come to a complete
stand still. All businesses were closed, politics were put on the back burner, and wars were halted. All
social classes were welcome to come to the festival, and they all did. One of the most famous religious
festivals is the City Dionysia, a festival in honor of the god Dionysus, god of wine, revelry, and
fertility. The festival was held in ancient Athens, in March for five days, featuring dramatic
competitions. These dramatic competitions consisted of dithyrambs, tragedies, comedies, and satyr
plays. The tragedy competition was four plays per playwright, three tragedies and one satyr play.

Democracy Is A True Democracy
The ideology of a true democracy no matter how great the thought, is dealt with no different than any
other form of government in which it is a race for power. In the classical sense, true democracy is the
equal power of each member of the constituencies; however, practice gives more power to the
members and the line of power gets blurred. To outline it true democracy and practice differ by the
vast levels of power and political roles, political corruption putting democracy s interests at risk, and
personal interests undermining any actual change. True democracy does not exist without equal
distribution of power between the people and the government officials. In this matter, democracy s
practice gives a greater power to officials over nonpolitician citizens. Democracy s theory is equal
power, but a true democracy would not even include officials whose power can be used for
malpractice. The practice of officials that have more power than people is considered a democracy
more as a Democratic republican to others. In this example, we vote for the national election to elect
the president, however, within this, the electoral college can change the popular vote by basing their
change as to be on behalf of the majority. Thus, citizens don t have the ultimate power or the choice of
who is president. Essentially it is an unfair system such as in Should the Electoral College be
abandoned? Robert F Weinhagen Jr. gives an example that electors may vote for a presidential

It promptly fitted a frigate, the Abraham Lincoln, to destroy the beast, and invited Pierre to join them,
for his science capabilities. For many months they searched, but could not find this Narwhale
anywhere. When they found it, it attacked the ship, disabling it, and sending M. Aronnax, Ned Land (a
harpooner) and Conseil (servant of Pierre) overboard. Soon, the three were guests in the Narwhale,
now known to be a ship, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo. During the stay aboard the
Nautilus, Pierre Conseil and Ned encounter and discover many wonderful and interesting facts from
the sea. Often, they would accompany the captain in an under water expedition. Several of these
excursions were to hunt, and others were simply to explore a submarine region. One of the times when
the purpose was just to investigate an underwater region, Captain Nemo and M. Aronnax explored the
lost city of Atlantis. On a separate occasion, Pierre found that there was a supply of coal underwater
that the Nautilus used as a source of fuel. In addition to underwater excursions, the Nautilus itself was
on a round the world journey, which accounted for the most exiting time of the book. This was when
Captain Nemo was attempting to access the South Pole. That meant passing the Great Ice Barrier, and
surviving with very little air. During this rather long voyage, the submarine gets wedged between two
icebergs,

In 1789 Thomas Malthus, English Cleric And Scholar, Studied
In 1789 Thomas Malthus, English cleric and scholar, studied the nature and gist of population growth.
He argued that the population growth was faster than the rate of food production and thus it would
lead to global starvation. According to the most recent United Nations estimate elaborated by
Worldometers, the current world population is 7.5 billion.
Overpopulation is an objectionable condition which the number of human population expands faster
than the Earth s capacity. Overpopulation is a result of various factors such as improvements in
medical facilities. Moreover, overpopulation also has a critical impact on the environment and is a
salient issue in the modern world as it has led to many economical and sociological issues. Even ...

A physical, biological or chemical alteration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as pollution. It
occurs when any harmful gases, dust, smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it difficult for
plants, animals and humans to survive. Since the creation of the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts,
significant improvements have been made to the overall water and air quality. Despite efforts,
pollution remains a major threat to our general health and well being and the problem still persists at
harmful levels. America s Troubled Waters, a report by US Public Interest Research Groups (U.S.
PIRG), cites the following statistics regarding the state of America s waterways: Approximately 39%
of rivers, 46% of lakes, and 51% of estuaries are still too polluted for safe fishing or swimming.
Furthermore, pollution has caused nearly 20,000 beach closings in 2004, the highest level in 15 years.
The EPA s Wadeable Streams Assessment finds that 42% of all U.S. stream miles are in poor
condition. More than half of those found in the eastern portion of the U.S. and 40% of those in the
central region are considered to be in poor condition. Even though water pollution has spread, there
are many solutions to this problem. Responsible practicing of Fertilizer and Pesticides use, filter
runoff, capture and dispose of floating pollution in waterway are some measures which can be taken in
order to prevent water pollution. Fertilizers and

Analysis Of Have Smartphones Destroyed A Generation
For some of us, it is difficult to comprehend why our education systems have not yet made the
transition to technology based forms of teaching especially when we are in the era of technology. To
others, the reasoning is clear and they support the original, dated usage of textbooks in a traditional
classroom setting. The changes in our society are undeniable with the innovation of technology and
social media. Although some authors, such as Neil Howe and Jean Twenge, argue that technology is
deteriorating the minds of Millennials, technology is also providing Millennials with a way to create
connections across communities. In American author and psychologist, Jean Twenge s article, Have
Smartphones Destroyed a Generation? Twenge argues that smartphones have seriously taken a toll on
Millennials. She claims that smartphones are wreaking havoc on Millennials mental health, as this
generation is apparently safer than ever physically, they are seriously unhappy with life in general
(Twenge 4). According to Twenge, children who see their friends on social media more than they do
face to face feel lonely and excluded. I feel that with a majority of my generation, this is accurate to an
extent. Many fights and arguments between younger people stem from Instagram and Snapchat posts.
For example, innovations like the SnapMap now allow people to view their friends locations. Various
viral memes, a humorous image, video, etc. copied and spread rapidly throughout the Internet,

Dr. Indrani Bose s Seminar, “Using RNA Interference to...
On Friday, January 31, 2014 Dr. Indrani Bose gave a seminar about her area of research, and discussed
her research objectives. The title of the seminar was Using RNA Interference to Understand the
Virulence and Biology of the Yeast Cryptococcus neoformans . At the beginning, she first compared
and contrasted the budding yeasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Cryptococcus neoformans.
According to Dr. Bose in the mini review, A Yeast under Cover: the Capsule of Cryptococcus
Neoformans, C. neoformans is a fungus that is ubiquitous in the environment, where it is found in soil,
in association with certain trees, and in bird guano (16) (1). She also stated because of its ubiquity, that
most people had probably been exposed to it from a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bose stated that her long term goal is to discover better drugs to eradicate this disease from developing
in humans. She intends to do this by identifying the genes that are involved in the disease process, and
assessing their function. From that point she will attempt to discover or design drugs to inhibit these
genes from functioning. There are several factors that affect the virulence of Cryptococcus
neoformans; from its polysaccharide capsule, to its ability to grow at high temperatures, and its
formation of melanin. The last two factors are absolutely necessary to the pathogenicity of the fungi
(1).
The Dr. Bose discussed RNA Interference. She said that RNA Interference is used as a tool for
forward genetics , and that it selectively destroys specific mRNAs, which in turn creates knock down
phenotypes. Forward genetics is the random inactivation of 1 2 genes at a time, allowing for
selectivity of the phenotype. At this point, she began to describe the results from running RNA
interference on the Cryptococcus neoformans genome. She discovered that there was too much
expression of ADE 2, so she developed a stable marker, URA 5. The URA 5 selected for robust RNA
Interference. She discovered that the cells that did well with URA 5 would survive treatment with 5
fluororotic acid, and the cells that did poorly with URA 5 would not survive the treatment. She also
determined that silencing was RDP1 dependent. RDP1 is a wild type gene.
Then she developed a library

The Sociological Perspective
In chapter one of our book it is talking about the sociological perspective. Sociology is defined as the
systematic study of human society. It is explained that sociological perspective is seeing the common
in the specific. Sociologists look for common patterns in the behavior of certain people. I found it very
interesting in chapter one where it states that higher class white men are more likely to commit suicide
than any other population and that between genders; men are more likely to commit suicide. This is
interesting because I would have thought the roles were reversed. I would have thought that women
are more likely to commit suicide because women are more emotional than men. Later on in the
chapter it goes on to talk about how to apply sociological perspective. It can be applied in three
different ways. It can be applied in one s life, one s work, and in studying sociology. When we apply
sociological perspective to our lives we are more likely to become active and more aware. After
applying sociological perspective we begin to think more critically in our everyday lives. There are
three major theoretical approaches. The structural functional approach is the basic layout for building
theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work simultaneously to stimulate harmony
and strength. The social conflict approach sees society as a place of inequality that produces struggle
and change. Lastly is the symbolic interaction approach. This approach sees that

Animals Short Term Memory
Animal cognition or comparative cognition s major purpose is to compare the cognitive processes of
different species, including humans. By making such comparisons, researchers hope to find
commonalities in the ways different species receive, process, store, and use information about their
world (Mazur, 2013, p.225). Animals short term memory also known as working memory is different
for different animals based on if they use retrospective coding or prospective coding. For example in
short term memory experiments with pigeons researchers found that they use prospective coding with
is the ability to look forward such as if I hit this key then this key I will be rewarded with a food pellet
according to Mazur (2013). Long term memory are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are many ways that animals are able to learn to communicate such as the experiment
by Allen and Beatrice Garner who used American Sign Language to teach a chimpanzee to sign a
couple hundred words including the ability to put certain combinations according to Mazur (2013).
During this experiment the chimpanzee, Washoe, learned to put word combinations together however,
Washoe was unable to master grammar but the result was still effective in her ability to get across her
needs or wants. David Premack (1971b, 1983) improved this research by teaching his chimpanzee,
Sarah, to use colored magnetic shapes to form sentences. This started small and simple and gradually
they were able to get Sarah to put together quite complex sentences based on a technique called one to
one substitution according to Mazur (2013). This is accomplished by using the same sentence with
only a one word change from sentence to sentence once this is accomplished they are able to change
another word and so on until Sarah was able to master several complex sentences including grammar,
concepts, and plurals according to Mazur

How To Write An Argumentative Essay On Stop And Frisk
In the first presidential debate, one of the many issues touched upon was stop and frisk. This policing
method used throughout the 2000s by New York City mayors was the subject of an intense exchange
between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. However, neither candidate had any specifics on the topic
(a disappointing trend throughout the night), leaving the American people in the dark. Well, prepare
for the lightbulb to be switched on as I enlighten you on stop and frisk.
Trump is the one who originally touched on stop and frisk. In the middle of a response to a question
about racial divide in America (a topic for another day), Trump said Now, whether or not in a place
like Chicago you do stop and frisk, which worked very well..., explaining how he would lower crime.
Lester Holt, the debate moderator, followed up by telling Trump that stop and frisk was ruled
unconstitutional because it discriminated against people of color. Hillary then jumped in with Stop and

To stay consistent with what has been the general theme of this election, that is, fact checking, let s
fact check Clinton s claims that stop and frisk was ineffective, racist, and unconstitutional.
Stop and frisk is when a police officer has reasonable suspicion that a crime has been, is being, or is
about to be committed and stops the possible suspect and frisks them, checking for illegal substances
and weapons. Now, let s look at Clinton s three claims, one by one. She called stop and frisk
ineffective. Spoiler alert; stop and frisk was highly effective and helped lower crime in New York city.
Stop and frisk was part of proactive

The Codes Of Practices Within The Uk
Introduction
In this piece of work we will be looking briefly at the different codes of practices established in the
UK about corporate governance, merging in it actual data from one of the largest low cost airlines in
Europe and analyzing through a few scandals the issues they have to manage its business, therefore
come to a conclusion on how they should be overcoming this difficulties. Some theories about CG
will be presented in a brief manner, linking them to the way the chosen company has been running its
business.
Corporate Governance
With the time, companies and businesses have become larger and a more powerful force, meaning
they are doing the right things to keep them afloat and gain profits. This is directly related with the
corporate governance within the organization; so to speak, this term is used to define the way the
companies are being directed by its owners and more important what the managers are doing to guide
and how they are achieving it. Cadbury 1992 defines it as the process by which companies are
directed and controlled.
It is needed when the ownership and the management are separated, so there have to be a way to
control the company in harmony between the two parts.
Corporate governance has developed widely as many theories and new best practices codes have been
introduced since the 90s. The introduction in 1992 of the Cadbury report in the UK, recommended a
code of best practice and made companies to comply with it, and if it was unable to do

You rushed a special law in Parliament authorizing the detention without trial of people connected

ten thousand innocent Africans were arrested under the pass laws and meetings banned throughout the

  • 2. Minimum Wage Law Impact Impact of minimum wage law. University of People BUS 1103 Professor Getachew Woldie April 19th, 2017 Impact of minimum wage law. In this paper I m going to answer the following questions with regards to the situation when a higher minimum wage is enacted: will the number of workers hired change? why? what might be an unintended consequence of a higher minimum wage law designed to help low income workers? To further entail other requirements, this paper is aimed to be at least a 1 2 page, font size 12, double spaced, Times New Roman font, and lastly, include a reference list. The results of implementation of minimal wage law can be assessed using demand and supply curves. A demand curve defines the quantity of products at certain prices which are required by all market players. It is normally used (together with supply curve) to determine equilibrium price and equilibrium amount of a certain good or service which is required by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to OpenStax, Principles of Economics it can be a change in income, population, tastes, prices of substitutes or complements, or expectations about future prices. All these variables modify the amount of demanded product at all costs. It is possible that the demand curve shifts to the left or the right. The movement to the right happens when the amount of required good is increased at any price compared to the initial position. Conversely, a shift to the left occurs when the amount of demanded good is decreased at all costs compared to the original position. The minimal wage law in fact is a price floor which limits employers from decrease the salary lover certain level. After the implementation of price floor it is expected that the amount of hired employees will be decreased. The reason for it is an excess supply or surplus of labor work. In the end, Moore asks a lot of questions about the nature of American society, and while he doesn t always give us answers, he does conclude that the United States is a nation that is filled with both too many guns and way too much fear (Weschler, 2003). In the Bowling for Columbine documentary has been partly dramatized in regard to some of the events in order to cause an effect to the viewer and some have even gone as far as reshooting the same scene or having various angles of the same scene/event just to make it visually pleasing to the audience in which the point of the documentary is deliberately, seriously, and consistently deceptive. Flaherty has made his greatest impact through manipulating the story that he wanted to tell, changing customs in order to make sure that his vision of the story is told, he trades carefully on the thin fine line in distinguishing between fiction and documentary that Michael Moore is frequently criticized for today. • 4. Essay On The Role Of Stock Markets The Role of Stock Markets According to Alfaro, Chanda, Kalemli Ozcan, Sayek (2004) stock markets play a vital role as they allow investors to buy and sell shares in publicly traded companies. They are one of the most vital areas of a market economy as they provide companies with access to capital and investors with a slice of ownership in the company and the potential of gains based on the company s future performance. Stock markets generally reflect the economic conditions of an economy, Alfaro, Chanda, Kalemli Ozcan, Sayek (2004). If an economy is growing then output will be increasing and most firms should be experiencing increased profitability. This higher profit makes the company shares more attractive because they can give bigger dividends to shareholders. If the economy is forecast to enter into a recession, then stock markets will generally fall. This is because a recession means lower profits, less dividends and even the prospect of firms going bankrupt, which would be bad news for shareholders. The Role of Over the counter Markets According to Duffie, Gârleanu, Pedersen (2005) over the counter (OTC) markets serve as a type of secondary market also referred to as a dealer market (The secondary market is where investors purchase securities or assets from other investors, rather than from issuing companies themselves). This generally means that the stock are traded either on the over the counter bulletin board (OTCBB) or the pink sheets .The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Does Beowulf Fight When Beowulf fights, he always has a reason. Beowulf is a strong, brave and heroic figure to the Danes. He is always looking to protect them. Beowulf encounters three fights and uses different methods, techniques, and weapons for each one. He uses these to show that sometimes doing the same thing over again doesn t always work. Beowulf s first fight was against his greatest enemy, Grendel. The fight starts out with Beowulf, looking for Grendel, and finding him. When he finds Grendel, he attacks. Beowulf has come to kill the beast that has been terrorizing his people. The fight goes on until Beowulf, with his superhuman strength, tears off Grendel s arm. Grendel is left badly wounded. He knows he cannot fight anymore and heads back to his home to die. Grendel s death was probably Beowulf s greatest victory. The second fight Beowulf had was with Grendel s mother. Beowulf is looking to do the same with Grendel s mother as he did with Grendel. He goes underwater looking for her in her cave. As Beowulf is heading towards her cave, she suddenly attacks him and drags him down to her cave. Beowulf tries to strike at her with his sword but misses. • 6. Mcintosh s Argument Towards The Idea Of The Invisible... To answer this question, I will be confirming McIntosh s argument towards the ideas of the invisible knapsack by using instances from my life. I agree with McIntosh s statement of how as a white person we typically carry around this baggage of these unearned assets of which we have no clue we really carry1. The idea that myself, as a white woman, carry around this invisible knapsack is astonishing, yet true. I never knew how entitled I appeared to be as a white woman. However, thinking back on experiences throughout my life I carried around that knapsack since the beginning. When I was a young girl starting head start there were some different races in my classroom. However, the colored girls were always off doing rather boring activities aside from us white girls. I had an invisible knapsack privilege at that time to have more joy in a school activity due to the color of my skin. A different time would be closer to today. Over the past summer, I was selected to be one of the students to go on a trip with a firm to Chicago. While at Chicago we were in groups, and in my group from the Tulsa office was only one colored person. At the time I did not think anything of it. Although, when we arrive in Chicago and met numerous high level firm members none of those do I recall being a person of color. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Olympics, in particular, have achieved increasing popularity over the past five years as a result of the industry s growing social media presence and the broadcasting of events through online streaming. It is anticipated that the industry will continue to grow as many sports increase their broadcasting muscle through these new media channels. Although both sculptures look extremely different they both carry various correlations to each other. Both artist were very famous during the renaissances time period and both should be deeply appreciated for their artwork. This paper shall compare the two David s from each artist, explaining the key differences and stunning similarities. Michelangelo crafted his, David, during the time period of 1501 1505, which is now located in the Galleria dell Accademia, Florence. Both David s present a very warrior like construct and seems like they are ready for war. Although, Donatello s David looks as though he has already finished his fight. Donatello s David stands and can look a bit more feminine especially the way his hand is bent onto his hips and the way he wears his hat on top of his longer hair. Also Donatello portrays his figure to look very much younger than to what Michelangelo s David looks like. Nonetheless since Donatello s David seems too look like it took place after a fight, the figure is shown to have one foot proudly on top of his opponents head, Goliath, which in Donatello s David, he strikes Goliath with a sword while Michelangelo s used a sling and stone to his head. Unlike Donatello s David, Michelangelo s looks as if he has not attacked yet, but looks more as if he strategizing how he will do so. • 11. Literary Analysis OfThe Goldfinch, By Donna Tartt The story in the novel The Goldfinch, written by Donna Tartt, begins even before Tartt s writing begins. Upon opening the novel, the first sentence present is a quote by Albert Camus, stating, The absurd does not liberate, it binds . Even before beginning this novel, the meaning of this quote shines through; the peculiar things that happen in life are what bring people together, a fate is not necessarily a punishment. This quote begins the first section of the novel and gives great meaning to it as the protagonist quickly learns that his world does not end just because his mother s does. At the beginning of the novel, the protagonist, Theo Decker is introduced in his hotel room in Amsterdam, feeling lonesome and miserable. Shortly after the introduction, the point of view is changed from this older version of Theo to a much younger, thirteen year old Theo. At this point in time, Theo explains about the death of his mother, the woman whom he regarded most highly. While on their way to a meeting with the principal of Theo s school due to his poor behaviour, the two stop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Theo s mother, Audrey is extremely passionate about art and her favourite painting is entitled The Goldfinch , painted by Carel Fabritius. In stopping to examine the painting, Theo thinks to himself It was a direct and matter of fact little creature, with nothing sentimental about it; and something about the neat, compact way it tucked down inside itself its brightness, its alert watchful expression made me think of pictures I d seen of my mother ... a dark capped finch with steady eyes (Tartt 27). This moment is important because it displays Theo s kind hearted, innocent and observant nature. By comparing his mother to the painting she loves the most, and by finding the good in the painting, despite being plain, Theo demonstrates his innocence and ability to be observant. This comparison between the bird in the painting and his mother leads to the development of a symbol throughout the novel. While in the museum, a terrorist attack occurs. Bombs are set off and multiple explosions occur in the gift shop of the museum, where Audrey is. Fortunately for Theo, who is entranced by a strange looking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Perseverance Reflection When I first started to think about what the theme of my lesson was going to be, I immediately thought about my preschool and pre k students that I work with on a daily basis. What are they learning now? What are some important concepts in life that haven t been taught in depth? What concept can be difficult to comprehend without implementing drama? These were just some of the many questions that were going through my head. When I first came across the book The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Speirs, I immediately was captured by the theme of perseverance in the book. The week that I found the book, I had been working with a student who was trying to complete a puzzle and she was getting frustrated. I sat down with her and encouraged her to continue trying and with a little help she completed the puzzle. The look on her face when she completed that puzzle was electrifying. She was so excited and so proud of herself when she finally fit that last piece into the puzzle. This experience helped me when choosing the topic of my monologue because when I came across the book, I realized that the concept of perseverance would be a perfect concept to teach through the integration of drama. One reason, I felt like the integration of drama would be so useful in teaching this concept was that many students are probably able to comprehend the definition of perseverance, but what does perseverance look like? How does it feel when you persevere? That is where I thought integrating drama ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She is on the higher side of the rating spectrum, yet she continues to aim higher. Lacie is always giving full ratings to everyone regardless of their status but pays particular attention to those who have more stars. The difference between giving high status individuals good ratings and mid range individuals is the hopes that they return the favour. She never lets her guard down when it comes to her social media ratings. To continue increasing her ratings, she is adamant on socializing with high status people. By applying Erving Goffman s impression management, it is evident that there are multiple ways that Lacie uses to avoid public shaming and embarrassment. Goffman s concept shows different situations that can be avoidable as long as people present themselves in a certain way. When an individual is in public, it is best to be continuously updated with recent events. Once out of the loop, that can result in public embarrassment because the knowledge that has been applied is outdated and cannot compete with the newer information. When shame is brought, there can be actions to avoid them such as changing the subject or in Lacie s situation, sending full ratings in hopes of avoiding embarrassment and to save face. Shame is a very hard thing to accept and it can change a person s life drastically. It is the difference between having the highest rating and hitting rock bottom. Achieving a higher status is easy, but being stripped of your status is just as simple. Before going out in public, an update on knowledge can be done to avoid embarrassment and it can also be a conversation starter showing how much attention is being paid to someone. • 16. Nina Simone Contributions The 1960s marked a period of social unrest and frustration over civil liberties for black Americans. The dominant figures of the Civil Rights movement were often male political and social leaders such as Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr. However, during this period music became an inseparable part of the Civil Rights movement. The civil rights and protest music had a remarkable influence on the freedom movements by spreading the political and social messages rooted in the movement. Consequently, musical artists also became dominant sources of leadership and influence. Nina Simone led an influential and successful life as a musical artist, especially during the civil rights movement. Her music fused genres of classical, soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz to create a completely unique, uncategorizable style of music. Her contralto voice and distinguished musical style made her easily recognizable and popular to a diverse, global audience during the 60s and 70s. Although Simone is often omitted from historical recounts of the civil rights movement, her songs are incredibly significant to the turbulent times as they promoted a sense of black pride and projected the frustration and anger over the oppression of black Americans, especially black women. Simone had dreams of becoming a classical pianist which were never reached. Despite these unobtained goals, Simone was able to become an eminent musical artist that always carried herself with the utmost honesty, dedication, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stories that are told throughout take place in biblical times, and follows some of the lineage of the bible itself. After being introduced to Dinah herself, the book follows her life story from beginning to end, all the way from Haran, through Canaan, Shechem, and into Egypt. Jacob s main role with his children were to teach the boys good pasturing when they became of age, along with the ways and religion of his father, and his father s father. Dinah being the only girl was treated very differently than the boys because she did not go out into the field with her father to learn the skills that he had to offer. Instead, she stayed in the camp with her mothers and was even permitted into the red tent to learn the stories of her mother s during her youth. In fact, the first time she recalled her father ever speaking directly to her was just before the left on their trip to Canaan. As the red tent followed the life journey of Dinah she encountered several different cultures. As she traveled, Dinah was introduced to new family dynamics unlike her own. Men and women from her mother s culture did not eat with their husbands, or have any real relationship at all with them. Whereas in Egypt, men and women would sit down beside each other at meals. Husbands would kiss upon their wife s hands and show them affection in public. At first this was unbelievable for Dinah, as these things would never occur in her own culture. Be sure to choose a specific part of the book to support your answer. Before reading this book, I had already been aware of the countless dangers of Mt. Everest. Last summer I read a book about Mt. Everest much like this one in the state that both were spoken through personal accounts, and both used constant detail to express the horrible and painful experiences that both authors had to go through. This prior knowledge helped better my understanding of this book because I was aware of the common occurrences that can take place while climbing Mt. This book captured the importance of the discovery of the Guatemalan archives. An intense amount of work was put into recovering approximately 80 million documents from the government after decades of internal warfare. This reconstruction of public memory was extremely important for those involved in recovering and sifting through the documents, the families and friends who lost people during the civil war, to Guatemala and the discovery also held significance international (Weld). A few years later in March of 2008 files were seized by the Colombian Armed Forced during a raid. These archives belonged to the insurgent group called The Revolutionary Armed Forced of Colombia People s Army or FARC. The files belonged personally to Raul Reyes (a leader of FARC) who was killed during the raid along with 24 other insurgent members (Walser). This led to some controversy about the files later on. The Colombian Armed Forces handed over the archives to Interpol, so they could be decoded and analyzed. These two sets of documents are different discoveries of public memory that impacted lives as public memory was reconstructed. External Influences Of Operations Management Evaluate the Response of Operations Management to External Influences Operations Management Operations Management in an organisation is repsonsible for managing and in making decisions concerning the activities that convert inputs into outputs , that is goods and services. This covers both short term actvities as well as longer term activities to meet strategic goals. Inputs can be the raw materaials need to manufacture goods such as furniture or the computers needed to create a service like online shopping site. Operation management s role is to make decisions to improve how operation activities function, for example, to improve the final quality of the output or to change production methods to be more efficient in terms of cost and in time. The role of operations management is vital in planning and managing the way that inputs for the business are transformed. Ultimately, operations management is trying to achieve a competitive advantage for their organisation through improved efficiencies, product quality, reduction of cost and product differentiation. Figure 1 Operations Management is key in the transformation process External Influences All businesses are affected by a series of external forces or influences. These influences may also change over time and hence the way they interreact with an organisation can also change. Operations Management will use a variery of measurements to monitor external influences to help them respond to these changes, for example, at times of slow hire rates for employees in time of high employment, operation Management may re train other internal staff to make up shortfalls [Kydos, P29]. External influences cover a wide variety of factors, and their influence can differ between business types. These include the following: Globalisation Technology Customer quality expectations Legal Regulations Government Policies Environment sustainability Cost based competition Corporate social responsibility Quality Expectations Some examples of external influences are now examined in detail.

It is also known as crib death because the death usually occurs in the crib. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome claims the lives of approximately 2,500 infants each year. The majority of SIDS deaths occur between 2 and 4 month year olds. The cause of SIDS is unknown in infants under one, but for infants over the age of one, there is a cause. A few of the causes of SIDS include: smoking or drinking during pregnancy, inadequate prenatal responsibility, prematurity, inexperienced mothers, smoking near or around the baby, enormous amounts of heating from blankets or pajamas, and placing a baby on its stomach (Floyd R. The reason why the cause is unknown in infants less than one year old is due to the fact that a thorough investigation cannot be performed since the baby is too young. If, however, the baby is over one year, there can be an investigation. This usually includes an autopsy, a thorough investigation of the death, and an examination of the infant s health. Tiberius was, however, as adept an administrator as he was a commander, and it was, in actuality, this value that led him to be so successful with his expeditions (Tacitus c.100AD, 119). As Tiberius aged, he appeared to become ever more morose, his dour and grim complexion characterising him and polarising the views held by his supporters and critics alike (Boak 1965, 301). This change in disposition can be largely attributed to his forced divorce from his beloved wife, Vispania, and subsequent marriage to Augustus daughter, Julia (Bradley 1990, 539). Contrary to many contemporary opinions, Julia was very nearly as intelligent and cunning as Tiberius himself, her one fault being perhaps her adulterous nature, and it was for this that Tiberius scorned her (Bradley 1990, 540). The story of Paul is interesting from the perspective that the man best known as the author of most of the New Testament started out as a devout Jew and despised the Christian faith. According to Acts 22:17; Paul was in the temple and fell into a trance. God warned him to leave the city. Paul escaped to Caesarea, on to Cilicia Syria, then to his hometown of Tarsus. Paul s plan for evangelism led him to what was considered the civilized world of the Roman Empire, leaving to others the centers of Judaism Palestine, Alexandria, and Babylon. Paul s movement westward was from Antioch to Cilicia, Galatia and Pamphylia, Asia Minor, Macedonia and Greece, Italy, and Spain. Paul s strategic plan was to stretch churches and the gospel from Antioch throughout the entire region. Paul s strategy was to take his teachings to the metropolis areas instead of the smaller cities and towns. • 37. The Evolution Of Greek Theater The Evolution of Greek Theater Greek theater can be considered to be one of the building blocks for our theater today. The advancements that the Greeks possessed in the early fifth century were the start of western theater. The Greeks were heavily involved with religion and religious festivals, comedies, tragedies, climatic drama, and took the outdoor amphitheater and made many improvements to its structure. In Ancient Greece religion and theater went hand in hand. The Greeks developed religion that was based on worship of many Gods. In honor of the Gods there were festivals with dancing, music, and theatrical performances. During the festivals the whole city would come to a complete stand still. All businesses were closed, politics were put on the back burner, and wars were halted. All social classes were welcome to come to the festival, and they all did. One of the most famous religious festivals is the City Dionysia, a festival in honor of the god Dionysus, god of wine, revelry, and fertility. The festival was held in ancient Athens, in March for five days, featuring dramatic competitions. These dramatic competitions consisted of dithyrambs, tragedies, comedies, and satyr plays. The tragedy competition was four plays per playwright, three tragedies and one satyr play. There were two processions; the first was carrying the statue of Dionysus from the temple to the theater of Dionysus at the foot of the Acropolis. The second were the patrons parading through the ... • 38. Democracy Is A True Democracy The ideology of a true democracy no matter how great the thought, is dealt with no different than any other form of government in which it is a race for power. In the classical sense, true democracy is the equal power of each member of the constituencies; however, practice gives more power to the members and the line of power gets blurred. To outline it true democracy and practice differ by the vast levels of power and political roles, political corruption putting democracy s interests at risk, and personal interests undermining any actual change. True democracy does not exist without equal distribution of power between the people and the government officials. In this matter, democracy s practice gives a greater power to officials over nonpolitician citizens. Democracy s theory is equal power, but a true democracy would not even include officials whose power can be used for malpractice. The practice of officials that have more power than people is considered a democracy more as a Democratic republican to others. In this example, we vote for the national election to elect the president, however, within this, the electoral college can change the popular vote by basing their change as to be on behalf of the majority. Thus, citizens don t have the ultimate power or the choice of who is president. Essentially it is an unfair system such as in Should the Electoral College be abandoned? • 40. Essay on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Some time ago, I decided to read Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, by Jules Verne. I figured that because it was so well known it must be an extremely interesting book. In addition, it was science fiction, the one area that I was always interested. My assumption was only partially correct, for I only was to a degree interested in the piece of writing. When Jules Verne was writing this book, he must have been reading some incredibly dull science book the day before, for that was what the book was written as. The style of writing was utterly against my tastes, and though the plot was moderately interesting, the style of writing really ruined it. Often, the author will trail off describing some ... During the stay aboard the Nautilus, Pierre Conseil and Ned encounter and discover many wonderful and interesting facts from the sea. Often, they would accompany the captain in an under water expedition. Several of these excursions were to hunt, and others were simply to explore a submarine region. One of the times when the purpose was just to investigate an underwater region, Captain Nemo and M. Aronnax explored the lost city of Atlantis. On a separate occasion, Pierre found that there was a supply of coal underwater that the Nautilus used as a source of fuel. In addition to underwater excursions, the Nautilus itself was on a round the world journey, which accounted for the most exiting time of the book. To others, the reasoning is clear and they support the original, dated usage of textbooks in a traditional classroom setting. The changes in our society are undeniable with the innovation of technology and social media. Although some authors, such as Neil Howe and Jean Twenge, argue that technology is deteriorating the minds of Millennials, technology is also providing Millennials with a way to create connections across communities. In American author and psychologist, Jean Twenge s article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation? Twenge argues that smartphones have seriously taken a toll on Millennials. She claims that smartphones are wreaking havoc on Millennials mental health, as this generation is apparently safer than ever physically, they are seriously unhappy with life in general (Twenge 4). According to Twenge, children who see their friends on social media more than they do face to face feel lonely and excluded. I feel that with a majority of my generation, this is accurate to an extent. Many fights and arguments between younger people stem from Instagram and Snapchat posts. The title of the seminar was Using RNA Interference to Understand the Virulence and Biology of the Yeast Cryptococcus neoformans . At the beginning, she first compared and contrasted the budding yeasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Cryptococcus neoformans. According to Dr. Bose in the mini review, A Yeast under Cover: the Capsule of Cryptococcus Neoformans, C. neoformans is a fungus that is ubiquitous in the environment, where it is found in soil, in association with certain trees, and in bird guano (16) (1). Bose stated that her long term goal is to discover better drugs to eradicate this disease from developing in humans. She intends to do this by identifying the genes that are involved in the disease process, and assessing their function. From that point she will attempt to discover or design drugs to inhibit these genes from functioning. There are several factors that affect the virulence of Cryptococcus neoformans; from its polysaccharide capsule, to its ability to grow at high temperatures, and its formation of melanin. The last two factors are absolutely necessary to the pathogenicity of the fungi (1). The Dr. Bose discussed RNA Interference. She said that RNA Interference is used as a tool for forward genetics , and that it selectively destroys specific mRNAs, which in turn creates knock down phenotypes. Forward genetics is the random inactivation of 1 2 genes at a time, allowing for selectivity of the phenotype. At this point, she began to describe the results from running RNA interference on the Cryptococcus neoformans genome. She discovered that there was too much expression of ADE 2, so she developed a stable marker, URA 5. The URA 5 selected for robust RNA Interference. She discovered that the cells that did well with URA 5 would survive treatment with 5 fluororotic acid, and the cells that did poorly with URA 5 would not survive the treatment. She also determined that silencing was RDP1 dependent. RDP1 is a wild type gene. Then she developed a library ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Sociological Perspective In chapter one of our book it is talking about the sociological perspective. Sociology is defined as the systematic study of human society. It is explained that sociological perspective is seeing the common in the specific. Sociologists look for common patterns in the behavior of certain people. I found it very interesting in chapter one where it states that higher class white men are more likely to commit suicide than any other population and that between genders; men are more likely to commit suicide. This is interesting because I would have thought the roles were reversed. I would have thought that women are more likely to commit suicide because women are more emotional than men. Later on in the chapter it goes on to talk about how to apply sociological perspective. It can be applied in three different ways. It can be applied in one s life, one s work, and in studying sociology. When we apply sociological perspective to our lives we are more likely to become active and more aware. After applying sociological perspective we begin to think more critically in our everyday lives. There are three major theoretical approaches. The structural functional approach is the basic layout for building theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work simultaneously to stimulate harmony and strength. The social conflict approach sees society as a place of inequality that produces struggle and change. Lastly is the symbolic interaction approach. This approach sees that ... This started small and simple and gradually they were able to get Sarah to put together quite complex sentences based on a technique called one to one substitution according to Mazur (2013). Corporate Governance With the time, companies and businesses have become larger and a more powerful force, meaning they are doing the right things to keep them afloat and gain profits. This is directly related with the corporate governance within the organization; so to speak, this term is used to define the way the companies are being directed by its owners and more important what the managers are doing to guide and how they are achieving it.
