the woman he loved in the eye. Conflicting with the despairing tone, the speaker develops a
complex attitude with the use of structure, metaphors, diction, and desire. The structure and tone

digestion, circulatory, and respiratory systems are located in a rat and their function according to

One is able to use rats as a specimen to study human anatomy, as the organs found in a rat such as
the heart, lungs, and the stomach, are also found in the human body. Furthermore, it has been
proved that humans has approximately 99% of the same DNA as rodents especially mice

For an example, Norway rats prefer to eat foods high in protein such as pet food and meat scraps,
while Roof rats prefer fruits (Rat s diet, n.d.). Other similarity between the species in their diet is
their desire to eat sugar and foods high in amounts of sugar. A difference between humans and
rats is the number of chromosomes they have. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, while rats

On April 16th, Haskell observes the songs of the birds in the forest. The dry buzz unleashes a
confusion of songs from all directions, a jumble of tempos and timbres. (Haskell, pg 81) Haskell
describes how birds use these beautiful songs to mate. Male birds, he explains, take years to
perfect this song. The songs are used to help attract female birds for mating. In the larger scale,
these songs are a daily normal in the morning. Most humans wake up on a daily bases hearing birds
sing their song, but they never bother to pay attention to it. However, when taking a closer look, we
understand the purpose for these songs, and thes songs become even more beautiful and unique.

In Becoming Members of Society Devor discusses how our childhood, our toys, and everything
around us has developed into a cognitive schema that establishes certain gender roles. He states
that from a young age, children start to develop their identities and gender roles. He later goes on
to explain how because of these gender roles that have been formed, the hierarchical pyramid is
more prominent in society. Women are seen as weak compared to men, forcing stereotypes on
women as the inferior while men are superior. In lieu of Living in Color, Michael Omi states that
popular culture leads to the racial beliefs that have been created and continued throughout history.
