The Permeability Of Membrane Permeability
Ability of cell membrane transport of membrane permeabilityпјЊ diffusion пјЊosmosis and
membrane voltages
Introduction
Cell membranes are boundaries of the cell, it controls all the interaction between cells as well as
passage transport of the material we normally describe as membrane transport. Membrane transport
are very essential for all living things, however not all substance can transport in and out of
membranes and different ions can pass through membranes in different ways.
Membrane permeability is very important as to maintain the cell in a stable condition as we can
also describe as remain our cell a more homeostatic environment by control which substances could
can go through cells. Membranes are essential for control the concentration of particular ion, and
establish the concentration requires. We can observe those mechanisms of cell membranefrom a
considerable ATP synthesis and solute transport through the plasma membranes. Gradients which
cause those ions to move cross the membranes are potential of cell .when a separation of charge
occurred an electrical potential occurred results with voltages can be measured in the cell.
Osmosis is the one of important transport for living cells.it allows water from one side to another.
The direction of osmosis are usually from high concentration of water to lower concentration. This
is because when the membrane has a high level on one side of membranes it could results as a
pressure, which is known as osmotic pressure.

The Incredibles
The Incredibles, released by Pixar in 2004, starts off with a flashback that dates the film in an
alternate universe in the 1960 s: a time period where superheroes, humans who possess and uses
their special abilities to protect people in need, were much admired for their courageous acts. The
strong headed protagonist, Mr. Incredible, uses his power of super strength to defend the city from
crimes and is much admired by the public. One of Mr. Incredible biggest admirer is a kid, Buddy
Pine. Although Buddy is an ordinary human, he creates gadgets that mimic superpowers. Due to
Mr. Incredible s mentality of working alone, he harshly rejects Buddy s plea to be his sidekick. For

Not only does he say it three times, he oddly uses it by morphing the everyone to aim directly at
humans who are powerless and exclude superheroes, who already have powers. This scene comes
to a halt with a wide shot of Syndrome in the center foreground and Mr. Incredible in the
background. This is symbolic because it represents Syndrome newly found dominance and control
through his gadgets. Because many superheroes, like Mr. Incredible were born with superpowers,
they have the mentality that they are superior due to their uniqueness. So, the dominant roles have
been reversed as now Mr. Incredible is powerless and Syndrome is

Analysis Of Trait And Social Anxiety In Adults With...
The article Trait and social anxiety in adults with chronic stuttering: Conclusions following meta
analysis is written by Ashley Craig and Yvonne Tran (2014) and the purpose is to explore how
much of an impact stuttering has anxiety levels in adults. Both trait anxiety and social anxiety are
focused in the article. Trait anxietyis stability of anxiety in many life domains and social anxiety is
the stability of anxiety in difference social situations (Kraaimaat, Vanryckeghem, Van Dam Baggen,
2002). Stuttering is a communication disorder that includes core behaviors of part word repetitions,
prolongations, and/or tense hesitations (Bloodstein Bernstein Ratner, 2008). Also usually included
in the definition of stuttering are secondary behaviors,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors of this study examined literature to evaluate 5 methodological issues including (a) the
construct of anxiety, (b) trait anxiety measures, (c) participant numbers, (d) treatment status of
participants, and (e) speaking tasks. The results are consistent with Craig and Tran s (2014) in that
there is strong evidence that there is a relationship between stuttering and anxiety, in particular

How Lenin and the Bolsheviks Remained in Power Between November 1917 and Lenin s Death in
1924
The Bolsheviks set up a government called the Council of Peoples Commissars or Sovnarkom
for short. The main people in the government were Lenin was the Chairman, Trotsky was the
Commissar for War, Stalin was Commissar for nationalities and one woman, Alexandra
Kollontai. They passed several Decrees. They were; all classes distinctions were abolished; all
distinctions of rank in the armed forces were abolished; all land belonging to the Tsar, the church

Lenin had to get Russia out of the War by making peace with Germany. He hoped that a
Revolution in Russia would spark off other communist revolutions in other countries, but this did
not happen. Germany seized land from Russia in this treaty taking 25% of its people, 27% of its
best farmland 26%of its railways and 70% of its industry.
There was a civil war in Russia the Reds(Bolsheviks) and the Whites (supporters of the Tsar). The
Bolsheviks only had a small army but the Whites had support from other European nations wanting
to get rid of communism in Europe. The Reds won, this was a big boost to Lenin s rule in Russia.
Lenin introduced War Communism. This were strict measures introduced in the Civil War while
the communists were fighting for survival. They were:
Г…Вё All factories were taken over by the government. They were told what to make and at what
price. Everyone aged between 16 60 had to work. Strict discipline and strikes were illegal
Г…Вё peasants were not allowed to trade the grain and other food they grew. The government
simply took what they wanted.
Г…Вё food was rationed and only workers could have ration cards.
The results were that the peasants refused to co operate and grew less grain. Coming on top of
world war 1 and civil war led to famine in 1921 in which about 7 million died. In 1921, there was a

Kids Care Case Summary
With this scenario it is honestly boarder line due to it is but then again it is not enforceable.
Gerard s promise to donate the receipts to Kids Care is enforceable due to he made a contractual
promise which means that Gerard has to fulfill it by law. Also, the promise Gerard made created
not only a legal but as well as a moral responsibility in which made his promisean enforceable in
spite of the lack of consideration. Kids Care had relied on the promise that Gerard made in order
to build a residence for homeless teens and with such dependence, it formed a basis for contract
rights and duties. On the other hand the promissory estoppel is defined as individuals rely on
promises, and such reliance may form a basis for a contract rights and duties. Under the doctrine
of promissory estoppel (also called detrimental reliance), a person who has reasonably relied on
the promise of another can often obtain some measure of recovery (Miller Hollowell, 2011).... Show

Comparing The Humpest And The Tempest
Jason Kelliher in his academic article put forward a comparison between the spirits such as Ariel
or Caliban depicted in The Tempest and the technological advances in Brave New World. They
both are a form of technology and are the same kind of malicious control [...] to fulfill
authoritarian goals . Science, and what is more magic in the Shakespeare s play, is really important
to achieve a control on population through for example; with soma tablets in Brave New Worldand
wine in The Tempest or with Hypnopaedia and the siren song that could be considered as a
intentional determinism. These uses of technological advances, that are a requirement for any
purportedly society , show according to Kelliher a deification [of] industry and makes possible to
idealize the assembly line and downplay the moral and religious values of a more primitive age .
This is ,this time, an intentional destruction of the religious primitivism. The new God of the

Shakespeare and Huxley both are empiricists of the genre. Jerome Meckier thinks that they are
artists who see the multiplicity of life , the plural self, that means that they are able to describe
all possible aspects of a given universe and of its inhabitants. However, according to Ira Grushow,
the problem is that our everyday world is haunted, using Derrida s hauntology idea meaning that
our present exists only through our past, by this life of the spirit, of poetry, of pure science, of
pure knowledge, of chastity, of human relations, of the sanctification of carnal pleasures . As
Shakespeare haunts the life of John and the whole world represented with Mustapha Mond in

Physical Features and Development Levels
Physical Features and Development Levels
The current development levels of a region can be affected by many variables including the
physical features of that region. Physical features can provide with trade routes, natural resources,
and can become a tourist attraction. These are all ways that the government could make money that
they could invest on better education, roads, etc., therefore allowing the country to be classified
under a higher development level than if they didn t have the resources to get the money. Some
physical features are also a burden on a country s development levels, rivers can allow trans

Since uranium has so much power it is a very valuable resource that can be traded internationally.
Such as the many trade agreements between Canada and the European Union. Letting free trade
between countries increases economic activity which allows investment in the further development
of those countries.
Thanks to great physical barriers the culture of Europe is diverse allowing for many great locations
for tourism to take place. A lot of countries all over the world have their major income come from
tourism; tourism in these countries has helped them become more developed than before. Europe
has lots of tourist attractions , therefore Europe s landscape has aided to its development due to the
income it provides. However war over valuable land can decrease the amount of tourism in that
area. Therefore war can decrease the amount of money a country gains from tourism, which limits
the things it can do to make the country more developed.
While rivers may be great for trading, sometimes countries have little regulations on what
companies can throw into the rivers. Many companies and people have caused some of Europe s
rivers to be polluted. Pollution in rivers is a great problem since it stops the people from being
able to use the asset to bring in money for the country. If a river is polluted the river that comes
from it cannot be used to fish/drink/farm. Such

Stereotypes In Grey s Anatomy
I only viewed two stereotypes in the shows I watched. The first stereotype is that In Grey s
Anatomy they made women seem hysterical and clueless when it came to a pregnancy. They
also made the dads seem useless because they were hardly in the room. In the show they also
made The Doctors look arrogant and selfish because as if every doctor only believes in
experimenting instead of truly helping a patient. In the commercials there were a lot of
stereotypes. The asian aways played the smart guy or tech savvy guy. The older man always
played the wealthy guys or someone who is extremly sick in health. There was a certain Lexus
commercial that stuck with me because its a fast car a man is driving and when he gets home he

The Controversial Decisions of the US Government in History In 1804 the United States takes
formal possession of what is now Missouri. In 1820 After fierce debate, Congress admits Missouri
as a slave state. The question of Missouri statehood sparks widespread disagreement over the
expansion of slavery. The resolution, eventually known as the Missouri Compromisewhich allowed
Missouri to enter the union as a slave state along with the entrance of the free state of Maine,

Louis. Scott lived for seven years in areas that outlawed slavery. For example, Illinois was a free
state and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 had closed the Wisconsin Territory to slavery. When
Scott s long fight for freedom began on April 6, 1846, he was living in St. Louis and was the
property of Dr. Emerson s wife.
Mrs. Emerson did not wanting to lose such valuable property, so she appealed the decision to the
Missouri Supreme Court. Lawyers on both sides agree that from now on appeals will be based on
Scott s case alone, with findings applied equally to Harriet. The state Supreme Court overrules the
Circuit Court decision and returns Scott to slavery.
the Scott case underwent a dramatic changes that would prove to be very important towards the
conclusion of the case. Mrs. Emerson had moved to Massachusetts and remarried, leaving Scott
and his case to her brother, John F.A. Sanford , who still lived in St. Louis. Also, the Scott v.
Emerson case in the state judicial system was a suit between two parties; each side s had one
objective which was to win.
The Scott v. Sandford case was filed on April 6, 1846. Scott declared that he was free by virtue of
his residence at Fort Armstrong and Fort Snelling once again. He had strong legal backing for his
case. Subsequently,

Charles Manson Case Study
1.The members of Charles Manson s cult family were Leslie Van Houten, Bobby Beausoleil,
Paul Watkins, Catherine Gypse Share, Mary Brunner, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabain, Steve
Grogan, Patricia Krenwinkel, Charles Watson, and Squeaky Fromme. Almost all of the members
came from middle working class families and were generally happy people. Some of the
members were also very religious like Charles Watson, for example, was a leader of a church
youth group and enjoyed attending Sunday night services. The absence of a father, however, led
some of his followers into a world of experimenting with drugs and running away. Their lost,
rebellious souls found comfort in Charles Mansonwho became a father figure to them.
2.The 1960s was the decade of the Civil Rights Movement and of counterculture. The Civil
Rights Movement saw the rise of social groups, like the Black Panther Party, who had had
enough of being racially discriminated and would conduct boycotts, sit ins, and marches in
order to support their cause. Counterculture consisted of young people, known as hippies, who
revolted against government agendas like the Vietnam War, and who wanted to live in a society
that was based upon freedom and love. Manson believed that there would be a race war between
blacks and whites and that black people would come on top. It became evident to Manson that
Helter Skelter, the last final destructive war among men on the face of the earth, was not coming
and it was up to him to create it. So, Manson took advantage of the counterculture happening in the
60 s to led young people into believing the world would go to war and the only way to survive is to
stick together.
3.In an era that sought love and peace, Manson was able to successfully manipulate the emotions
of young people. Manson began his recruitment in the hippie ridden area of Haight Ashbury, San
Francisco. There, Manson was able to croon his way into the minds of the young and vulnerable.
Upon recruitment, Manson would tell his followers, while they were under the influence of LSD,
to essentially erase everything they know about society and fill their minds with his philosophies
because he was the embodiment of Jesus Christ. His followers did as he said because most of

Wilson has changed. He s not the same person, he once was. I personally think that this has to do

Many British literature writers of the Middle Ages wrote about reality of the Middle Ages
including the social, political, and economical styles of writing. During the Middle Ages,
chivalry was a big aspect of every day life. Chivalry, a word not rarely used in modern times
anymore in the same fashion it was before, is defined as, the code of life that defined the qualities
of knighthood, such as honor, courage, loyalty, and willingness to defined the weak and protect
women. (English Western Literature Text) The Middle Ages were known to be the times of

that Arthur did not want to back out since he was doing the deed for his brother out of pure

trouble from others who wanted to be king. The others who tried but failed, did not believe that
someone so young could succeed the throne instead of them. They did not have any loyalty towards
Arthur at first, which put off the crowning for a while but not until Arthur successfully again
retrieved the sword out of the stone did the others bow down to him. They were finally going to
become loyal to their real king; King Arthur. The nobles, knowing in their hearts that the
commoners were right, all knelt before Arthur and begged for forgiveness for having delayed his
succession for so long. (p.120) This quote tells the reader that the nobles begged for their
forgiveness by kneeling down before him in search of becoming loyal again. In the second part of
this story, it describes many adventures of Gawain, Torre, and Pellinore in which they unveil their
loyalty or un loyalty towards the king. In the very beginning of this section, Merlin, and King
Arthur are talking about marriage for Arthur. Merlin states that the woman Arthur sets eyes on

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
1. Migrant and seasonal farm workers may have the poorest health of any aggregate in the
United States and the least access to affordable healthcare (Nies, 2011). In Indiana, the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides food assistance to low and no
income people and families living in the United States (U.S.). It is a federal aid program
administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA),
however, distribution of benefits occurs at the state level. In Indiana, the Family and Social
Services Administration (FSSA) is responsible for ensuring federal regulations are initially
implemented and consistently applied in each county. People can apply for this assistance at their
local Division of Family Resources. There are also many places that participate in the emergency
food assistance program (TEFAP) and food pantries. In Lake County, Indiana, the largest food
pantry is the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, which is a TEFAP participant and also a soup
kitchen. They are open Monday through Friday during the day. There are also food pantries in
trustee offices and churches, but some of them are by referral only. In some cases, the community
health nurse can make a referral (in.gov, 2014). There many assistance programs that can assist

The beginning of these facilities was in New France by the Catholic missionaries to provide care,
help, and schooling. These attempts had failed abysmally but these did set a pattern for future
policies. When the British North America Act was passed in 1867, the government was required to
provide education to these people to help them integrate with the society. The government tried
many ways to achieve that but there was no success. In the beginning of 20th century, the
government and the churches came together and developed a system residential schools. Most of
these schools were in the four Western provinces and the territories, but there were also significant

The Age Of White Collar Crime
Welcome to the age of white collar crime. A time when the words thieves and businessmen go
hand in hand. White collar criminals don t get their hands dirty in their work. They use their heads
to get what they want instead of using a little muscle. These criminals are just as dangerous as the
rapists and murderers. In these times, even the most seemingly respectable people are suspected of
white collar crimes.
President Clinton and the first lady Hillary Clinton have been tangled up in the Whitewater and
Travelgate business ventures. Although the two have not been formally charged with any
wrongdoing, there is a committee currently investigating their dealings and charges are not out of
the question for either of them. In Michael Isikoff s and Mark Hosenball s Newsweek article
Cracks in the Wall, they describe the Clintons dealings with Whitewater and the possible
consequences of them: The Senate Whitewater committee is considering asking for perjury charges
against Susan Thomas and Maggie Williams, Mrs. Clintons chief of staff, in connection with her
testimony about the removal of documents from Vince Foster s office (Isikoff 29). This case goes
to show that there presently a growing problem with our country, and it is called white collar crime.

sin and keeping up a form of religion in your families and closets, and in the house of God.
Edward s explained how adjusting your life to being reputable and religious will change the way
God conceives you. A person must repent their sins, pray, and go to mass to be forgiven. Finally,
in your later years God will authorize you to be put in Heaven. Jonathan Edward s presented the
way he thought a corrupt sinner could be allowed into heaven, and he also mentions how one
could be put into Hell. Jonathan mentioned how he was with miserable creatures now tormented
in hell, who their feel and bear the fierceness of God s wrath, Edward s preached how many
people are over the pit of Hell on a rotten covering, meaning many men and women are at the edge
of Hell and that they must improve their religious life to be sent to heaven. Jonathan Edwards
desire to awaken and save as many souls as possible motivated him to become a pastor portraying

The Gospel Of Jesus Research Paper
Christmas time has lots of different meanings to people. During Christmas, I choose to focus on the
gift Jesus has given us. By fulfilling the prophecies such as his birth and death,Jesus has given us
the greatest gift of all.
One of the many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled actually happened before he was born. The
prophecy was said in Isaiah 7:14. It says, Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The
virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. If we were to break
down this verse it is giving the Israelites a sign from God. Their Savior would be born from virgin
birth and be called Emmanuel. The naming of Jesus would be important because Emmanuel
means God with us and that s who Jesus was. He was God in the form of the Son here on earth.
The prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 1:18 which says, This is how the birth of Jesus the
Messiah came about His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came
together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. This verse explains how Mary and
Joseph were not yet married but she had been found with a baby. At this... Show more content on

The prophecy in Micah 5:2 calls out Bethlehem and says even though you are small and thought
of to be weak, a savior and king will come out from you. Meaning, Jesus would be born and die
on the cross and become our Savior and eternal King. This prophecy is fulfilled in Luke 2:11,
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This verse
was delivered by an Angel and told everyone a Savior has been born in Bethlehem. By this, he
meant Jesus would save us from sin. God choose Bethlehem for a reason, it belonged to his people
the Israelites and it was a small town but it would have major importance. This is also another sign
that shows that God delivers his messages in different ways. Or through different people such as

Roman Twelve Table Essay
What does it Say?
The Roman Twelve tables are twelve tables that were created as a code of law. Each table
explains the title of that code/law thoroughly. The tables are as follows: Table 1: Procedure: for
courts and trials. Table 2: Trials, continued. Table 3: Debt. Table 4: Rights of fathers
(paterfamilias) over the family. Table 5: Legal guardianship and inheritance laws. Table 6:
Acquisition and possession. Table 7: Land rights. Table 8: Torts and delicts (Laws of injury).
Table 9: Public law. Table 10: Sacred law. Table 11: Supplement Me. And Table 12: Supplement II.

A Study Of A Generalized Weak Kam And Aubry Mather Theory...
Here, we extend the weak KAM and Aubry Mather theories to optimal switching problems. We
consider three issues: the analysis of the calculus of variations problem, the study of a generalized
weak KAM theorem for solutions of weakly coupled systems of Hamilton Jacobi equations, and the
long time behavior of time dependent systems. We prove the existence and regularity of action
minimizers, obtain necessary conditions for minimality, extend Fathi s weak KAM theorem, and
describe the asymptotic limit of the generalized Lax Oleinik semigroup.

Recently, several authors have investigated random switching problems, their weakly coupled
Hamilton Jacobi equations [1], the corresponding extensions of the weak KAM and Aubry Mather
theory [1], the long time behavior of solutions [1], and homogenization questions [1]. In these
references, as in the present paper, the state of the systems has different modes. However, in those
problems, the switching between modes is driven by a random process. In contrast, here, the
switches occur at deterministic times as considered [1]. Our results complement the earlier research
in [1] and provide the counterpart of the aforementioned results for the optimal switching problem.
Setting of the problem. Let [1] be a compact, connected Riemannian manifold, [1] its tangent
bundle, and [1] a finite set of modes. The (multimodal) Lagrangian, [1], is, for each [1], a Tonelli
Lagrangian, [1], prescribing the running cost at the mode [1] . The switching cost is given by
the function [1]. A trajectory, [1] determines both state and mode at each time. We denote by [1]
the set of all absolutely continuous curves from [1] into [1], and by [1] the set of all piecewise
constant functions on [1] taking values on [1]. More precisely, [1] if there exists a partition [1] of

Vivian Goodman s Life Chapter Summaries
The first half of this chapter is a story of Vivian Goodman and her love affair with Emmanuel.
Vivian was a forty two year old woman who had two children from a previous marriage, that ended
because her husband had had an affair with another woman. She met Emmanuel who was a
coworker at Amerco and who also had a child from a previous relationship. Vivian and Emmanuel
found that they both had little time to spend together because of their shift differences, and Vivian
always picked up overtime shifts whenever she could.
Emmanuel had recently moved out of Vivians trailer because Tim, Vivian s nineteen year old son,
still struggled to accept that his parents, Vivian and her ex husband, were done. This made it
difficult for him to welcome Emmanuel into the family. Vivian s daughter, Tracy who was 21, was
much better about welcoming Emmanuel into the family, but was extremely jealous of Emanuelle

inconveniences of having these needy individuals around. Juggling these relationships as well as
Vivian s difficult work schedule proved to be too much for Emmanuel and he ended up spending
more time down at the bar and eventually having an affair with another woman.
The affair took a huge toll on Vivian, she lost thirty six pounds and the doctor had given her
nerve pills. The pills would knock her out for hours at a time while at work, and she would miss
her overtime. Work ended up being the only place that Vivian felt support. She was surrounded by

The Greco-Persian Wars
The division and unification of Greek city states could have come from many different things,
however war seems to be the common attribute. War is able to divide and unify societies,
cultures, and religions throughout the world. Separation is also a cause of war, for example, civil
wars have happened all around the world in order to break apart a governing body.
According to history.com, Athens and Sparta, both powerful Greek city states, fought as allies in
the Greco Persian Wars between 499 and 449 B.C. In the wake of the Persian retreat, however,
Athens grew more powerful and tensions rose, escalating into nearly three decades of war. In
many cases, differences or opposing ideas and beliefs bring the destruction of war. For example,

1) Examining the super molecular assembly of A. fumigatus cell walls.
In anticipating for this proposed study, we have
produced 13C, 15N uniformly labeled A. fumigatus (Af293 strain) and the isotope enrichment
provides good sensitivity for structural characterization using multidimensional solid state NMR
(Fig. 2A, B). We will measure a series of 2D and 3D correlation spectra, both through bond and
through space, on the fungus to assign NMR resonances and analyze cell wall composition. The
13C chemical shifts of protein and chitins are easily resolved from glucans due to differences in
their chemical structures. The glucan linkage, however, is highly diverse and difficult to

2) Investigating the mobility and hydration of A. fumigatus cell molecules.
The delivery pathway and depth of insertion of inhibitors will be affected by the mechanistic
property and porosity of fungal cell walls, which can be examined by measuring the mobility and
hydration of biomolecules. Our preliminary 1D data have revealed a very distinct dynamical
profile for cell wall molecules for A. fumigatus (Fig. 3). The 1H 13C INEPT spectrum (Fig.3, top)
showed quite a few sharp resonances belonging to very mobile molecules, while the 1H 13C cross
polarization spectrum (Fig 3, bottom) contained only broad peaks from the rigid molecules,
including chitins. These results led us to hypothesize that chitin forms the rigid scaffold whereas
glucans form a relatively mobile matrix. We will also measure transverse and longitudinal
relaxation times, chemical shift anisotropy, and dipolar couplings with site specific resolutions. The
combined measurements cover a wide range of motions happening from nanoseconds to
milliseconds, including both local reorientation and collective motion of multiple sugar rings. It is
particularly interesting to know whether dynamical heterogeneity is present for the same molecule.
For example, for ОІ 1,3 glucan, some disordered chains could fill the interstitial space between
chitin microfibrils while other partially oriented chains can hydrogen bond to the chitin surface
becoming partially rigidified. If this scenario occurs, we will observe

Abortion and Disability
With reference to abortion, examine and comment upon the issues that emerge from keeping up

There are several issues that arise when it comes to the development in medical ethics whilst also
maintaining religious principles and ethical values. The development of medical knowledge has
allowed for humans to practice different ways in helping society. But these new discoveries have
found to clash with religious principles and ethical values. This can be related to the topic of
abortion as it goes against monotheistic religious teachings.

Living in a world set up and built for able bodied people, it s difficult for a disabled person to be
brought up and adapt to carry out even the most simplest of everyday tasks. Aborting a disabled
foetus may not intentionally be biologically discriminating, but instead, weighing up the
consequences of continuing with the pregnancy until the stage of giving birth, taking into account
what life will be like for the foetus in the future.
To conclude, I believe that abortion should only be considered concerning the best interest of
the foetus because that is what is seen to be ethically right (by ending the possibility of suffering
and low quality of life that the foetus may have to endure if it was to be born). Situation Ethics,
devised by Joseph Fletcher could be a religious stance as to why the allowance of abortion for
disabled foetuses may be in accordance to religious principles also. For example, dependent on
the severity of a disability of a foetus, it might be reasonable to suggest aborting a foetus because
it would be the most loving thing to do. Agape love, the kind of love Jesus had for everyone in
which this theory teaches us to practice.

The Deaf Boy By Mark Drolsbaugh Essay
Mark Drolsbaugh spent the better part of his childhood trapped in between two worlds, neither of
which he felt at ease. Transitioning from hearing to deaf and everything it involves, Mr.
Drolsbaugh has certainly seen it all. Deaf Again focuses predominantly on the story of a deaf boy,
attempting to conform to the lifestyle that was comfortable for everyone else surrounding him; to a
shameless, culturally Deaf man sharing his experiences and viewpoints with the nation.
Drolsbaugh discusses heavy topics such as education, acceptance, awareness, and self
perseverance. He goes on to give his opinions and ideas on cochlear implants, how to raise a deaf
child, and fusing the two communities (Deaf and hearing).
Learning a new language can be hard, especially when it is not the language spoken by the majority
of your friends and family. But, being raised by deaf parents with many hearing influences, what is
that like? Drolsbaugh talks about the struggles he faced throughout primary school and how always
being the only deaf boy in the room made him feel like an elephant, no less. I m sure anyone
would feel that way if they were challenged to follow a conversation without their ears. Although
he was hard of hearing for some time, the residual hearing that was left allowed Drolsbaugh to
play the fake it till you make it game. But, that did not always work, especially when a teacher

The Debate Over the Idea of Drilling for Oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Throughout American history, there have been a number of conflicts and disagreements among the
populace over various issues. These conflicts of interest help to define political parties and allow
people to distinguish themselves through party allegiance.
One such item that is currently being debated is over the idea of drilling for oil in the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge. For years, environmentalist groups and oil industry supporters have been
sparring over this stretch of land. And both sides have formed some pretty compelling arguments

would single handedly be able to supply the nation s oil for a full three years and create upwards
of 750,000 new jobs. These beliefs are being stringently refuted by environmentalist groups,
however. Ever since the August 2nd vote in the House, which approved of the ANWR project on
President Bush s Energy Bill, environmentalism activists have been in an uproar.

The Importance Of Chemical Weapons
The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) defines chemical weapons as Any toxic chemical or its
precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its
chemical action (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, n.d.). Chemical weapons
have been around for a long time since ancient times, in fact some chemical weapons such as
chlorinewere frequently used during World War I
(War of nerves, 2006) (Pitschmann, 2014). Over
the years with the increase of industrialization and the advancements in technology chemical
weapons have become easier to make, since the materials needed to make chemical weapons are
now more accessible to the public and industries (War of nerves, 2006). This not only has allowed
some states to improve their chemical warfareprograms, but it has also increased the proliferation
and it has allowed terrorists to be able to developed chemical weapons and conduct successful
chemical terrorists attacks (War of nerves, 2006). Chlorine can be obtained easily and a chemical
attack using chlorine can have serious consequences because it could affect many people
(Pitschmann, 2014). It is important to recognize that the chemical weapons that are usually
employed by terrorist organizations are not as developed as the warfare chemical weapons that are
developed by nation states (Pitschmann, 2014). Due to the lack of expertise, resources,
infrastructure, and ineffective delivery methods, chemical weapons that are

How Junk Food Can End Obesity By David Freedman Summary
David Freedman s article titled How Junk Food Can End Obesity is relevant since we first read

regulations and the demonization of every processed food, has in some way, harmed the large

that is selfish and fantastic to think a wholesome diet is going to fit the average American, that has

I never ate breakfast before the Navy. You climb up the ladder wells (yes i said climb, they re
pretty steep) and as soon as you in the main p way (passage way) you smell the BACON. Now
your tummy is grumbling . you can choose to eat whats already been made or you can request
an omelet with all the topping you want (this is an early bird special only) . once you have you
food ready you find your early bird shipmates and eat in silence. No one has had their coffee yet.
by the time you re half way done with you meal you start to communicate. It starts as small
mumbles about the coffee or food or perhaps a bit of venting about the previous days work. now
but the time you re done eating you ve engaged in a full conversation about what your plans are
when you get to the new port or plans about whats the first thing you re going to do when you get

Essay About My Dream
Let me first start off by asking you a question, do you have a dream you are satisfied with? Do
you think your dream is good enough to make/keep you happy for the rest of your life in the
future? Now remember those questions and keep your answer in mind as you read this. At the
very end, did your answer change or stay the same? We shall see.
We all have dreams whether it s the one you get while sleeping, daydreaming in class, or the
dream you are working towards for. The main questions many ask today is what is my dream
(like a future career) or how will I make my dream come true? These are the questions I find
asking myself from a day to day basis. Another one and the most important question, in my opinion,
would probably be will I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Passion gives you a goal or a dream to chase after too. Another quote I hear pretty often is Have
Outstanding Passion Every Day! CollegeTrack. We strive with outstanding passion in whatever
we do, whether is completing a homework assignment, doing a sport, club activities, and just in
life in general. Having this passion gives you something to look forward to every day instead of
mindlessly getting up to go to school or work to do the same generic tasks everyday. Everyday is
a new day, which means there are new challenges, by having a passion it gives you the
motivation, the excitement to conquer new challenges. Think of it as Candy Crush, you worked
on a single level for days and you finally passed that level, the sense of accomplishment
encourages you to pass the next level and so forth. The kind of people with the most amount of
passion are CEO and entrepreneurs because they get to enjoy their creations in their business
every day, solve a new problem in their business or create another branch of their franchise. For
example, Bart Kwan and Joe Jo of JustKiddingFilms, who are very passionate about film and
comedy, combined their two interests and created a YouTube franchise where they dedicate
themselves to making comedic videos. Another example would be myself. I am very passionate
about happiness, wary of others feelings, tend to know when one is happy or sad, and know how
to properly comfort someone. I dedicate my free time to making sure the people around me are

What Are Pesonality Traits in the Work Environment
What are Personality Traits in the Work Environment?
What exactly are personality traits in the work environment? Personality traits are simply a person s
actions, attitudes, and behaviors being displayed. The work environment being covered is currently
in need of what many call an extreme intervention. Currently several coworkers are dealing with
one individual who is using various counterproductive work behaviors to create a negative work
environment. Many of these behaviors include harassing coworkers, creating un welcomed conflict,
not being truthful, sabotage, and purposely withholding information from others.
Ms. Helpful is Assigned
As these measures of negativity persisted in the work group it becomes very challenging for all
others including the manager. The conflict that several parties are currently observing has be come
extremely divergent, and is negatively affecting employees in the work group. Finally after several
complaints about a certain individual to management, it was decided there was a strong need for
intervention. The group was assigned a Human Resource Liaison Ms. Helpful.
Although, Ms. Helpful is a mediator at this point. It is well known that mediators have a defining
control factor with the intervention processes. A mediator develops the language and manages the
development and environment of communications with the involved coworkers. However, the
parties make the final decision about how to resolve their differences. Thus, me diators have

Scarlet Ibis Identity
Identity Hidden in Pride In The Scarlet Ibis, James Hurst uses internal conflicts between Brother
s pride and intentions to demonstrate that actions influenced by pride are an imperfect reflection
of one s identity. Early in the story, the protagonist, Brother, is embarrassed by Doodle, his little
brother, who cannot walk at the age of five. Without letting his parents know, Brother
successfully teaches Doodle to walk. Eventually, Doodle decides to show his parents and
everybody rejoices at Doodle s accomplishment, except Brother, who describes, Doodle told them
it was I who taught him to walk, so everyone wanted to hug me, and I began to cry...They did not
know that I did it for myself: that pride, whose slave I was, spoke to me louder... Show more content

When Doodle told them it was I who taught him to walk, Brother is being praised for his actions
that appear to be considerate. However, when the narrator mentions he is a ashamed of having a
crippled brother, Brother s real intentions are revealed. Additionally, the word slave suggests that
he is trapped in a world of pride and is unable to gain freedom. This pride has taken control of
Brother s intentions and is preventing Brother s actual personality to shine through. His
intentions are conflicting with his actions that create a feeling of guilt within him. Later in the
story, Brother continues to push Doodle to learn many new skills. After one day of hard work,
including rowing against the water and swimming until Doodle turns blue, Doodle still fails to
meet Brother s expectations. In anger, Brother leaves Doodle behind, but when Brother realizes
his mistake he turns back and finds Doodle dead. This loss comes over him and he began to
weep, ... Doodle! [he] screamed above the pounding storm and threw [his] body above [Doodle s].
For a long, long time, it seemed forever, [he] lay there crying, sheltering [his] fallen scarlet ibis
from the heresy of the rain, (16). After Doodle dies, Brother threw his body over Doodle, which

Flipping Pages While Drinking Coffee Essay
Flipping Pages While Drinking Coffee
I never really got into the world of coffee shops especially a coffee shop/bookstore all in one.
When I used to think of Barnes and Noble, I thought of people like my cousin who is somewhat
snobbish and would spend her evenings there reading and drinking her coffee. The other type of
person that seemed like they would fit there is, I guess what one would call, a bookworm or nerd. I
know that seems a bit harsh, but one tends to get stereotypes of things that are unfamiliar to them.
Through visiting Barnes and Noble I realized that my assumptions were entirely wrong. There
were very few snobbish looking people there. A gentleman who works at Barnes and Noble said

After I left that area, I continued to walk around. I noticed many people sitting on plush couches
and I wished that I could find one to sit on. I had no luck in that area. They seemed to be
everyone else s favorites too. So I kept on going. On the opposite side of the store was an area
that was quite open, compared to the rest of the store. This area contained larger tables with
more chairs around them. There was a group of ladies there who seemed to be having a meeting.
After my tour of the store I went back to my friend and we sat at one of the few tables left. It was
quite small and right next to the coffee shop.
After we sat down I tried to look around to see what type of person was there. It seemed as
though there were many students there. Some of them were studying, while others were
socializing. I had pictured that it would have a quiet atmosphere like that of a library. On the
contrary, it was actually quite noisy around the coffee shop area. As you got farther away from
this area though, it tended to become quieter as people settled down into the comfy couches to
read. But as for the area that we were in, there seemed to be many conversations going on all at
once. As we were sitting there I heard one girl say to another, May I ask you a personal question.
My ears perked up as I waited for the next part and then she talked quieter and I did not get to hear
it. I was so disappointed, because I thought I might have something juicy

Advantages Of Wolf
DIVERSITY of LIVING THINGS
INTRODUCTION
Have you ever owned a dog? No? Well you have no doubt seen plenty of dogs before. Have you
ever seen a wolf? Unlikely, but you must have at least seen pictures on what wolves look like. You
must have also noticed that though you could differentiate dogs from wolves, there were other little
(and sometimes not so little) similarities between the two animals. These similarities include height,
facial structure, and even behavioral tendencies. That is because both animals belong to the same
genus but different species, each one similar and yet still different from the other. What sets apart
each species from others in its genus? What relates each of them to the other? These questions are

How Did Pope John Paul II Impact The Catholic Church
Pope John Paul II was an important figure in the Catholic Church during his 26 year papacy. He
forged a legacy as one of the Catholic Church s most influential leaders and beatified more people
than any pope in history. Even when he was younger and defied the Nazis he showed an immense
amount of courage. He played a key role in the fall of communism, brought the Catholic message to
many around the world, and captivated billions with his contributions to the Catholic tradition and
with his religious charisma. His papacy would leave a huge impact in how future Popes would
carry out their papal duty s and change the way the catholic churchis.

Pope John Paul II broke with tradition and a 2000 year old doctrine when he prayed with
pagans, heretics, and other religions around the world. Pope John Paul II inspired a day for
spirituality, specifically the day of prayer the pope convened in 1987 with religious leaders from
around the world. With not only a lecture on the interreligious experience of the Assisi Day of
Prayer, the pope stated, There are undeniably differences [in religions] that reflect the genius and
spiritual riches that God has given to the peoples (John Paul II, The Meaning of the Assisi Day,
562). His statement is extraordinary in that the pope is not only affirming that other religions have
the presence of God, but also that some religious differences could be due to other religions having
spiritual riches given by God that are unique to them. (Feldmeier, 18) This showed the Catholic
church and religious around the world that church acknowledges other religious, that we all have
spirituality in our different beliefs, and that combining other aspects of a religion can help with the
religious experience. This one day opened the new possibility that the church, it s followers, and
other s outside the religion can look upon. Engaging with other religions can make one spiritually
richer and theologically deeper than one would be without knowing about them. (Feldmeier, 18)

R v. Dudley and Stephens
In the case R v. Dudley and Stephens, the two sailors should not have been found guilty or charged
with murder. I will examine the case with two theories of punishment, retributivism and
consequentialism. I am using these two different frameworks because they both have two different
requirements in order to justify punishment. Retributivism requires agents to be morally
responsible, while consequentialism requires an agent to be rational. It is important to distinguish
how the same action can be found guilty or non guilty depending on the framework of punishment
being used. Dudley and Stephens should be found guilty under a retributive framework of
punishment, but be found innocent under a consequentialist one. However, my conclusion that
both Dudley and Stephens should be exempt from criminal prosecution comes from looking at a
combination of retributivism and consequentialism that Duff calls Side Constrained
Consequentialism. Side Constrained Consequentialism is a combination of positive retributivism
and consequentialism. Side Constrained Consequentialism requires an agent to not only be a
rational agent, but a moral one as well. I will begin by defining my terms and laying out the
necessary details of the case. I will then review the case under the frameworks of consequentialism,
retributivism, and Side Constrained Consequentialism. There are three main terms I will be
referencing in this paper. The first is consequentialism. Consequentialism is, at heart, a framework

At the beginning, Tom Wolfe s curiosity and interest for the space program promotes him to write
the book about the test pilots, astronauts, and the United State space program. In this book, Wolfe
is trying to send the unique message to the reader, which is that the career of the test pilots and
astronauts are determined by their possession of the right stuff . Moreover, he also uses massive
logical evidence with persuasive sources to prove his opinions. Besides, on the background of the
space race between the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War period, seven
American astronauts risk their lives by going into space. After they made unbelievable
achievements and contributions in the space for their country, the citizens regarded them as the
American heroes in single combat against the powerful Russians. In the book, Tom Wolfe depicts
the right stuff such as bravery, experience, and the coolness of the test pilots and seven astronauts,
which is in order to prove them as the epitome of the American Heroism. From this book, the
conclusion is that the Heroism is an influential element for the country during that time period. In
essence, the true story of the test pilots and the seven astronauts conquered the sound barrier and

Craig Ferguson s Journey To America
With the exception of most comedians, celebrities are an attractive group of people. The female
celebrities often boast large breasts, full lips, and flowing locks of their chosen hair color (usually
blonde); while their male counterparts come equipped with bulging biceps, toned torsos, and
chiseled jawlines. A combination of natural good looks and the money to purchase the finest clothes
and beauty products on the market places celebrities far above the common peoplewhen it comes to
appearance.
Of course, having all that money can often lead to some pretty irresponsible decisions. While it
can indeed be spent on hair gel, makeup, and plastic surgery, many celebrities find themselves
blowing their earnings on a life of drugs and alcohol. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Westbrook first began appearing in EastEnders in 1990, at just 16 years of age. Shortly after, she
developed a fondness for cocaine and was using the drug regularly by 1995. In 1996, producers
had become so exasperated by her frequent tardiness and poor behavior on set that they had no
choice but to let her go. Despite losing a significant chunk of her income, Westbrook continued her
use of cocaine. In 2000, she shocked the British public when she appeared at the British Soap
Awards with her septum missing, eroded by years of drug abuse.
Westbrook would enter rehab several times over the next decade, enjoying brief periods of
sobriety before falling prey to her demons once again. Despite undergoing plastic surgery to repair
her nose and give her a more youthful appearance, Danniella Westbrook still bears the scars of
decades of substance abuse and cocaine addiction.

Sekaran Bougie Research Process
A Comparative Assessment of an Journal Article in regards to the Sekaran Bougie Research
Process Figure 1 Sekaran Bougie Research Process Abstract The analysis will represent a
comparative assessment of an article that appeared in the Journal of Sports Media, Volume 3,
Number 1, Spring 2008 entitled Interactive Media and Sports Journalists: The Impact of
Interactive Media on Sports Journalists (Wigley Meirick, 2008). This analysis will focus on the
first two steps of the eleven step research process outline by Sekaran Bougie (Sekaran Bougie,
2010). These steps involve observation and the preliminary data gathering. Therefore, this
analysis will focus mainly on the introductory information and the literature review that the
analyzed study outlines in the article. Introduction In regards to conducting research for use in
business, much of the research is geared toward ultimately being used as the basis for decision
making. Therefore it is vital that the research follows a purely rational process to eliminate as
much subjectivity as possible in order to obtain the most effective results. The first step in the
research process begins with observation (Sekaran Bougie, 2010). Observation is the step in
which a significant amount of creativity can be used to identify potential research problems or
gaps in the current body of literature. This phase is comparatively loosely defined because the
observations can be made in a variety of ways and from

The Great Leaders in China
Genghis Khan, first known as Temujin, was the son of a leader of a Mongolian tribe. He was
brought up in a time of warring tribes and factions. Genghis Khan was a fierce and brilliant
military commander, who achieved unprecedented success in setting Ghengis Khanup an Empire
which stretched across Europe and Asia. His Mongol armies left a trail of fear, death and
destruction. But, he also created a vibrant empire with a common language, booming trade,
tolerance of religion and some basic customs and laws( Pettinger., 2010). Arguably the most
famous Asian of the last 2,000 years, Genghis Khan created an empire that was more than twice the
size of any other conqueror s in history, and that endured for more than a century and a half after...

Instil a level of discipline within your organization such that you will do so much better in

Moral Compass
There is a difference between having a good or strong moral compass and being a good person.
No matter how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don t
actively follow that compass, you can t honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might
even make you worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to
think that I believe in truth, justice and the equality of all Gods children, but in reality, even if I do
believe this, I don t change my actions to fit my own code.
Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it s not necessarily the
utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don t
commit murder or other grand crimes, but I d venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I
was young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around
you. As long as I remember, I would feel so ashamed whenever I lied, but on the ... Show more

myself, if I seem like a good person and just tell people what they want to hear, I will look fair

cause personal unhappiness, everyone at some points needs to choose either their morals or their
ambition. Choosing your morals may mean deeper emotional happiness but choosing your
ambitions means great success overall. I may be a hypocrite, and an unhappy one at that, but
considering following my ambitions has worked for me for the past eighteen years, I m unlikely
to stop now. At this point, my ambitions have drawn out a map for me, I ll go to a good college,

Comparing The Humpest And The Tempest Jason Kelliher in his academic article put forward a comparison between the spirits such as Ariel or Caliban depicted in The Tempest and the technological advances in Brave New World. Science, and what is more magic in the Shakespeare s play, is really important to achieve a control on population through for example; with soma tablets in Brave New Worldand wine in The Tempest or with Hypnopaedia and the siren song that could be considered as a intentional determinism. These uses of technological advances, that are a requirement for any purportedly society , show according to Kelliher a deification [of] industry and makes possible to idealize the assembly line and downplay the moral and religious values of a more primitive age . The first stereotype is that In Grey s Anatomy they made women seem hysterical and clueless when it came to a pregnancy. They also made the dads seem useless because they were hardly in the room. In the show they also made The Doctors look arrogant and selfish because as if every doctor only believes in experimenting instead of truly helping a patient. In the commercials there were a lot of stereotypes. The asian aways played the smart guy or tech savvy guy. The older man always played the wealthy guys or someone who is extremly sick in health. • 12. Charles Manson Case Study 1.The members of Charles Manson s cult family were Leslie Van Houten, Bobby Beausoleil, Paul Watkins, Catherine Gypse Share, Mary Brunner, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabain, Steve Grogan, Patricia Krenwinkel, Charles Watson, and Squeaky Fromme. Almost all of the members came from middle working class families and were generally happy people. Some of the members were also very religious like Charles Watson, for example, was a leader of a church youth group and enjoyed attending Sunday night services. The absence of a father, however, led some of his followers into a world of experimenting with drugs and running away. Their lost, rebellious souls found comfort in Charles Mansonwho became a father figure to them. 2.The 1960s was the decade of the Civil Rights Movement and of counterculture. The Civil Rights Movement saw the rise of social groups, like the Black Panther Party, who had had enough of being racially discriminated and would conduct boycotts, sit ins, and marches in order to support their cause. Counterculture consisted of young people, known as hippies, who revolted against government agendas like the Vietnam War, and who wanted to live in a society that was based upon freedom and love. Manson believed that there would be a race war between blacks and whites and that black people would come on top. It became evident to Manson that Helter Skelter, the last final destructive war among men on the face of the earth, was not coming and it was up to him to create it. So, Manson took advantage of the counterculture happening in the 60 s to led young people into believing the world would go to war and the only way to survive is to stick together. 3.In an era that sought love and peace, Manson was able to successfully manipulate the emotions of young people. The others who tried but failed, did not believe that someone so young could succeed the throne instead of them. By fulfilling the prophecies such as his birth and death,Jesus has given us the greatest gift of all. One of the many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled actually happened before he was born. The prophecy was said in Isaiah 7:14. It says, Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. If we were to break down this verse it is giving the Israelites a sign from God. Their Savior would be born from virgin birth and be called Emmanuel. The naming of Jesus would be important because Emmanuel means God with us and that s who Jesus was. He was God in the form of the Son here on earth. The prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 1:18 which says, This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. We prove the existence and regularity of action minimizers, obtain necessary conditions for minimality, extend Fathi s weak KAM theorem, and describe the asymptotic limit of the generalized Lax Oleinik semigroup. In these references, as in the present paper, the state of the systems has different modes. However, in those problems, the switching between modes is driven by a random process. In contrast, here, the switches occur at deterministic times as considered [1]. Our results complement the earlier research in [1] and provide the counterpart of the aforementioned results for the optimal switching problem. Setting of the problem. The delivery pathway and depth of insertion of inhibitors will be affected by the mechanistic property and porosity of fungal cell walls, which can be examined by measuring the mobility and hydration of biomolecules. Our preliminary 1D data have revealed a very distinct dynamical profile for cell wall molecules for A. fumigatus (Fig. 3). The 1H 13C INEPT spectrum (Fig.3, top) showed quite a few sharp resonances belonging to very mobile molecules, while the 1H 13C cross polarization spectrum (Fig 3, bottom) contained only broad peaks from the rigid molecules, including chitins. It is particularly interesting to know whether dynamical heterogeneity is present for the same molecule. Transitioning from hearing to deaf and everything it involves, Mr. Drolsbaugh has certainly seen it all. Deaf Again focuses predominantly on the story of a deaf boy, attempting to conform to the lifestyle that was comfortable for everyone else surrounding him; to a shameless, culturally Deaf man sharing his experiences and viewpoints with the nation. Drolsbaugh discusses heavy topics such as education, acceptance, awareness, and self perseverance. He goes on to give his opinions and ideas on cochlear implants, how to raise a deaf child, and fusing the two communities (Deaf and hearing). Learning a new language can be hard, especially when it is not the language spoken by the majority of your friends and family. But, being raised by deaf parents with many hearing influences, what is that like? Drolsbaugh talks about the struggles he faced throughout primary school and how always being the only deaf boy in the room made him feel like an elephant, no less. The Debate Over the Idea of Drilling for Oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Throughout American history, there have been a number of conflicts and disagreements among the populace over various issues. These conflicts of interest help to define political parties and allow people to distinguish themselves through party allegiance. One such item that is currently being debated is over the idea of drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. For years, environmentalist groups and oil industry supporters have been sparring over this stretch of land. And both sides have formed some pretty compelling arguments for their beliefs. Of that 16 billion, there is an estimated 95 percent chance of locating and collecting at least about 5.7 billion barrels of oil. If the oil producing process went unhindered, many ANWR drilling supporters believe that the new project would single handedly be able to supply the nation s oil for a full three years and create upwards of 750,000 new jobs. These beliefs are being stringently refuted by environmentalist groups, however. Ever since the August 2nd vote in the House, which approved of the ANWR project on President Bush s Energy Bill, environmentalism activists have been in an uproar. As CorpWatch puts it: As we hurtle into the twenty first century, oil is still King. But it does not rule benevolently. Rather, the reign of those who control the politics of petroleumcontinues to undermine democracy while generating human rights violations and environmental disasters across the Earth. And with that, many associated with the Democratic left, have been contesting the Teamsters stated facts. In a New York Times article from September 2nd, the League of Conservation Voters had shown that the alleged 750,000 new jobs that would be created by the ANWR project, were over exaggerated by far. The Importance Of Chemical Weapons The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) defines chemical weapons as Any toxic chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or sensory irritation through its chemical action (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, n.d.). Chemical weapons have been around for a long time since ancient times, in fact some chemical weapons such as chlorinewere frequently used during World War I (War of nerves, 2006) (Pitschmann, 2014). Over the years with the increase of industrialization and the advancements in technology chemical weapons have become easier to make, since the materials needed to make chemical weapons are now more accessible to the public and industries (War of nerves, 2006). This not only has allowed some states to improve their chemical warfareprograms, but it has also increased the proliferation and it has allowed terrorists to be able to developed chemical weapons and conduct successful chemical terrorists attacks (War of nerves, 2006). Chlorine can be obtained easily and a chemical attack using chlorine can have serious consequences because it could affect many people (Pitschmann, 2014). It is important to recognize that the chemical weapons that are usually employed by terrorist organizations are not as developed as the warfare chemical weapons that are developed by nation states (Pitschmann, 2014). • 47. R v. Dudley and Stephens In the case R v. Dudley and Stephens, the two sailors should not have been found guilty or charged with murder. I will examine the case with two theories of punishment, retributivism and consequentialism. I am using these two different frameworks because they both have two different requirements in order to justify punishment. Retributivism requires agents to be morally responsible, while consequentialism requires an agent to be rational. It is important to distinguish how the same action can be found guilty or non guilty depending on the framework of punishment being used. Dudley and Stephens should be found guilty under a retributive framework of punishment, but be found innocent under a consequentialist one. However, my conclusion that both Dudley and Stephens should be exempt from criminal prosecution comes from looking at a combination of retributivism and consequentialism that Duff calls Side Constrained Consequentialism. Side Constrained Consequentialism is a combination of positive retributivism and consequentialism. Side Constrained Consequentialism requires an agent to not only be a rational agent, but a moral one as well. I will begin by defining my terms and laying out the necessary details of the case.
