Malala s ethnic group, the Pashtuns, are divided between two countries, Afghanistan and
neighboring Pakistan. The Pashtuns obey a strict moral code of honor, which obligates them to
treat all people with honor and respect. The Pashtuns are also a proud, warlike people. Malalai
is a heroine to them because, in the 1880s, she led the Pashtuns in a successful uprising against
the British Empire. Malalai was only a teenager at the time, and she set aside married life to
become a general and a warrior. British soldiers killed her, but her troops eventually defeated the
British. To this day, monuments to Malalai are built in Afghanistan, and she s a symbol of the
native resistance to foreign aggression. Malala wakes up in Birmingham, England, on October
16. The first thing she thinks is, Thank God I m not dead. The first person she talks to is Dr.
Kayani, who speaks to her in Urdu. Dr. Kayani explains that she s in England and that her parents
are still in Pakistan. Malala finds this news enormously distressing. A Muslim chaplain named
Rehanna visits Malala and calms her down somewhat by reciting Quranic verses. On Malala s
second day of consciousness after her shooting, she learns more about her surroundings. She s at
the Queen Elizabeth hospital, a far cleaner, more sophisticated building than the one where she d

3. Social Contract Theory and Cultural Relativism Essay
Thomas Hobbes s social contract theory is minimally related to that of cultural relativism. Both deal
with human nature and the search for peace. But while cultural relativism is in some ways a
noteworthy theory, the social contract theory is the only one of the two that could logically work in
an active environment. Cultural relativismtheorizes that the best way for different societies to
function together at peace is for them to recognize that each culturemust be allowed its own system
of beliefs. One individual may believe that his or her culture s belief system is the one true way. Is
there any way to absolutely prove that that person s morals are not correct? Not in the cultural
relativist view. Cultural relativism states... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, we can state, as James Rachels does on page 24, there is no objective truth in morality.
Right and wrong are only matters of opinion, and opinions vary from culture to culture. Since no
differing beliefs may be considered right and wrong, the only solution is to let cultural relativism
take effect. Any rational people understanding this theory will realize that their beliefs are
considered to be true merely because it is their own culture s beliefs. Others views must be held just
as high as their own even though the two are not in agreement. Ideally, cultural relativism could
allow this kind of understanding recognition between societies to develop and bring about
coexistent peace.
In reality, however, this can never be achieved to its supposedly full potential. This view of
cultural relativism would theoretically work if everyone would cooperate like this. Sure, it
sounds wonderful: two different cultures can put aside their differences and live in peace and
balance together to make the world a better place where everybody gets along and will live
happily ever after. But here is where the nasty part comes in humans are apt to disagreements no
matter what. Of course, many would adhere to culturally relativistic beliefs if this theory were
somehow globally instated, but there are too many trivial issues in the theory that would still be
left open for more argument. It does not follow, from the mere fact that people disagree (Rachels
24),

4. Plato And Aristotle s Views On Modern Political Thought...
Philosophers have pondered what makes for an ideal state since antiquity. In fact, the ideas
theorized by the ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle over two millennia ago on this
subject still resonate strongly today, influencing modern political thought and regime construction.
Plato contends the ideal state is one ruled by a class of guardians, or philosopher kings . These
philosopher kings are selected to rule because they are best fit for the responsibility. Aristotle, a
pupil of Plato, acknowledges and agrees with Plato on the point that states ruled by philosopher
kings would be ideal states, but adds such states are simply not reasonable. Instead, Aristotle
advocates for rule by polity : a constitutional government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Likewise, children born of guardians deemed unfit to be future guardians are relegated to one of
the other classes. By creating a system of specialization in which ability solely determines the
citizens duties, Plato ensures those who govern his city will not be the beneficiaries of parental
and/or class nepotism. For this reason, the city s political health is protected from the
deleterious effects of an inefficient ruling class. This class structure is wholly unconventional,
but necessary in Plato s ideal city. This is due to his position on the equity, or lack thereof,
between humans; some people, be it by nature or nurture, are more competent than others and
the most competent should rule over those less so for the benefit of the whole. However, Plato
knows this system will be fraught if it ignores base human desire. Citizens will not willingly
accept being corralled into specific societal roles, especially if they think those roles are unjust or
beneath them. Plato s system cannot work without a noble lie . The noble lie promulgated to the
citizens of Plato s city relies on a sort of divine meddling. According to the lie, although everyone
in the society is related and should share a familial bond, guardians, auxiliaries, and producers all
have different levels of ability imparted onto them by the god in the form of intrinsic metals. As

before the birth of Christ. Throughout history tattooing has served many purposes. The earliest
evidence of tattooing was found in 1991 in the mountains of Austria. An Iceman was found, his

Tribal tattoos have been used for many reasons. They were used to promote a relationship with a
god, and to help then get to the proper spirit world. Tribes also thought that tattoos would give
them an advantage when they arrive to the spirit world. Most of the primitive tribes used some
form of tattoos, scarification or body painting. For the Samoan men tattooing was a right of
passage to manhood. Typical the men were tattooed on the inner and outer thigh area to look like
clothing. If a boy did not have the tattoos they were not given the same respect as a man with
tattoos. They could not speak; they could not marry and were not allow doing certain jobs. When
missionaries arrived in Polynesian lands they tried to get the Samoans to refrain from tattooing
because Christianity frowned upon it. The missionaries wanted the Samoans to live by Christ

Samoans culture. In Tonga is where the Samoans and the Polynesians tattooed. Tattooing was a

8. Literary Allusion In Fahrenheit 451, By Ray Bradbury
It was a pleasure to burn (Bradbury 1). At the start of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, published
by Simon Schuster Paperbacks, comes one of the most iconic introductory phrases in literary
culture. At the moment of reading it, this line is interpreted to be an expression of the thrill that
came with the act of lighting a fire as Montag does his job to burn illegal books. However, by the
end, it is possible to say that this line has a different meaning altogether. In a time where censorship
and other forms of oppression were on the rise, Bradbury wrote his work to speak out against a
strong government, preserving freedom for the individual. Through the use of allusions, he grounds
Fahrenheit 451in reality, calling the themes of the novel into question in the present as much as they
were in the time when the novel was written. Through the world of his story, Bradbury makes a
statement about a potential path society could take, destroying freedom of thought and individual
expression, becoming nothing less than a dystopialike the one in Montag s world. Bradbury uses
both Biblical and literary allusions to reinforce his themes, ensuring the audience can apply his
ideas to the world around them. Bradbury makes his use of Biblical allusions quite clearly in the
novel, referencing multiple well known books and passages with specific emphasis on
Ecclesiastes, using many of the allusions largely towards the end of the novel. Montag reads the
passage from Matthew 6:28 while

The war poet and war poetry in general were terms used firstly within context of the World War
I.. From the beginning of the war times, poetry was written mostly by civilians, not by poets.
Such poetry had no established identity. It was later, between 1914 and 1918 when this type of
poetry acquired notion of genre, and so called soldier poets became a species. Enormous increase
in writing poetryrelated to the war occurred. War poetry became very realistic, describing
situation as it was perceived by participants and soldiers. Genre of war poetry was really powerful
it could dramatize, energize and inspire language used in poetry. (DAS,2013,n.p) After the war
poetry came the postwar one, that replaced it. Postwar years after the 1945 witnessed a profound
changes in the cultural, social and political fields. Illustrating the situation it was the rise and fall of
the welfare, manifesto of the Irish republic, British power over Scottish parliament and other

individualistic technique of writing. Works of poetry from Thomas and Barker do something more.

script was used as the national writing systemfor Manchu in communication with the Mongols,
because it is the most convenient and easy to use for diplomatic and strategic planning. After the

The ethnically Manchu people are able to present their culture and customs online for the world to
see, with descriptions of experiences of current cultural events and interactive online
communication. The activities online can bring more awareness to more ethnically Manchu people
and encourage them to embrace the Manchu identity. More online representation also leads to more
ethnic empowerment and increased recognition from the Chinese government (Bai 2008:4 6). As
Manchus are more confident with the future of their language and ethnic identity, they are able to
unite the voices online and request their own autonomous region, much like many other minority
ethnic groups in China. However, the extensive reliance on online representation may result with a
merely imagined community created without a realistic basis. The ethnic Manchus would have the
tendency to only rely on online content to represent the ethnicity and fail to bring change to the real
world. Due to the economic advantage of speaking Chinese, ethnic Manchus would continue to use
Chinese instead of Manchu on a daily basis, which contradicts with the increasing cultural
awareness spread online. The reluctance to speak Manchu either as the primary language or bi
language poses concerns of a potential re abandonment of the Manchu language. Therefore, the
most important step for Manchu language revitalization after successful language transmission and
language learning should be to make the language more sustainable. Although it is true that the
linguistic scholars might have biased opinions on language revitalization, they should still present
the significant joint effect of language revitalization and cultural representation, and the online
environment may be the preferred way to spread

21. For the Love of God Please Ban Zero Day Exploits
There is an interesting discussion going on revolving around privacy experts, and security
professional surrounding the use, and abuse of 0day exploits. Some of the talk comes
surrounding a Bloomberg article titled: US Contractors Scale Up Search for Heartbleed Like
Flaws [1] The argument on the side of privacy / legal/ crypto experts (summarized) seems to be
we need to stop because it will get into the wrong hands [2] People are going to use it for the
wrong reasons. Which is true to a degree but on a grand scale one of the most absurd things I
have read in some time. No law pertaining to say guns, ever stopped a criminal from obtaining
and using a gun. While one could argue the role of minimization of the usage of guns, I could
argue back, the criminals could shift to using a knife, a knitting needle, a steak bone to inflict
harm. The same can, and will likely apply to trying to stop the sale of 0day exploits. Let s be
blunt about it the zero day market. There are ONLY two real procurers of zero day exploits:
government and criminals. Criminalizing the sale of zero days is NOT going to stop the
criminals, they re already underground doing what they do. Governments? Governments will do
whatever they want. You can trick yourself into thinking they would stop if there were laws
against it however, you d be naive to think that some form of national security classification won t

What is the overall result of the tariff in terms of welfare? A. The US does not have a

Part 2: Allowing free trade between countries can be beneficial, but it also imposes costs. Use
the ITT Tech Virtual Library to research the costs and benefits of allowing free trade. Discuss
aspects of free trade that some may consider unfair. For example: a. Distribution of costs and
benefits of free trade. In other words, does everyone share in the gains and the costs equally? b.
Competing with different labor restrictions (or lack thereof), such as slave or child labor. c.
Differences in environmental standards. In the following basic demand and supply model free
trade allows countries to specialize in producing the goods in which they have the lowest
opportunity cost. This lowers the price of the good in other countries, as those countries can
import it from the lower cost countries. Generally, consumers in a country benefit from the
lower prices, but producers lose revenue because they produce less and at a lower price in
equilibrium (and the government gets less tax revenue if there was a tariff in place before free
trade). Overall, the total surplus is greater, but not everyone shares in the benefits and costs
equally. Manual labor (manual labor in American English) or manual work is physical work done

23. The Effects Of Sex Education On The Uk Essay
Sex education in the UK
The role of schools in providing information about sexual matters is much debated, with some
arguing that school based sex and relationships education (SRE) may accelerate the onset of sexual
activity and that parents should provide the information (giving them control over what is delivered
and when) (House of Commons Education Committee, 2015)
Published in the Department for Education and Employment (DFEE, 2000) biological elements of
sex education; puberty, reproduction, sexual transmitted infection must be taught to all pupils
through National Curriculum Science, which is compulsory in state maintained schools. In
addition state schools must teach the wider personal and social aspects of sex and relationships and
any state funded school that provide SRE must have due regard to the government guidance
(Department of Education, 2013). However, there is no statutory curriculum so schools are
encouraged to develop their own programs of study. Personal, social, health and economic education
(PSHE), which includes the broader aspects of relationships education, however is not statutory
(DFE, 2013)
There is evidence that receipt of SRE impacts positively on sexual behaviour and is associated
with positive sexual health outcomes (Kirby, Laris and Rolleri, 2007), because of this evidence in
2013, the Office for Standards in Education, Children s Services and Skills (Ofsted) were of the

There are many cognitive biases that affect the analytic process and inhibit analysts from reaching

there are different techniques that can be used to overcome these biases. Most of the time cognitive
biases are not intentional which is why it is so important that measures are taken to reduce the

Outside in thinking is a strategy that requires analysts to think from the perspective of the
outside. The first step of outside in thinking is to list all of they forces that could have an impact
on a certain topic or issue. From there the analyst looks at possible factors that could influence
that topic such as policy changes or actions of an adversary. The next step is to analyze how
each of those factors could affect the topic or issue that the analyst is focusing on. The final step
of outside in thinking is to judge whether or not the factors you identified are relevant to the issue

In 1941, the Second World War broke out in the pacific region. As it was a principal plays of war
between the Allied and Japan in the Pacific Region, it was named as Pacific Ocean Theater. To
be the superior in the Pacific Region, the Japanese need to posses resources in order to have a
sufficient supply demand to stay in the war. Particularly, the Japanese needs oil resources. As it
was for oil resources that their wanted to posses, Borneo became the main target for Japan. In
addition according to Gordon (2000) in August 1940, Japanese Prime Minister Matsuoka Yosuke
formed an imperial concept of the Greater East Asia Co prosperity Sphere where they are trying to
create a self contained community of Asian nations led by the Japanese, for which the Asian nation
will share the prosperity and peace and liberating Asians from Western colonialism. However, when
their mission accomplished, the concept in theory differs from the reality as they manipulated the
colonies for their own imperial benefits. In these essays, it will discuss about the Japanese
Occupation of Borneo with particular references to Brunei.
Aside from possessing the resources to be superior in the Pacific Region, the Japanese also needed
to claim the territories under British colonies to be one. The Japanese occupation plan is basically
seizing British territories to literally weaken the British strength. The invasion of Brunei in some
way accomplished the mission. As the British were defeated to Japanese

history of passed judgments of blacks must be altered by the revision of the white man s self and

could expect from a talented young minister whose primary goal is to reach the consciences of

Sometimes, in order for an individual s own safety, sacrifices have to be made. The government
has full justification to arbitrate the people s online private matters because it is necessary for
the protection of the country and its citizens. One example comes from an underground network
called the deep web . The deep web could be described as the wild west of the internet. Numerous
amounts of information are posted on the deep web where normal search engines like Google or
Bing do not show. According to Tyler Biscontini, a writer for the Salem Press, the deep web is
useful for many different reasons. It provides anonymity to anyone using it. Special software
must be downloaded in order to run the deep web. This is mainly because the deep web s main
feature is that the user s ip address is changed so that they can roam the web free of the fear of
being tracked. It also provides a significant greater amount of information that is not accessible
on a normal browser. Journalist especially, use the deep web in order to dive into research and
scouting topics for future stories. However, the deep web can also be a dangerous place. Many
individuals take advantage of its features for wrongdoing. Due to the anonymity that comes with
accessing the deep web, it is hard to track down individuals performing the crimes. Lev Grossman,

necessary to have a clear understanding of what is media welfare. Welfare is described as being
a strategy used by dominant classes in society (Ruscheinsky,2000). Welfare is also part of media
strategies. Known as media welfare, it is when the audience believe that a channel, a show or a

William Shakespeare: Much Ado about Nothing
What does the play seem to say about power and gender? Compare and contrast at least four
characters, using specific examples to support your answer. William Shakespeare s play Much Ado
about Nothing is one of his many creations during the Renaissance and Elizabethan Era. This is
one of Shakespeare s most famous play that is still performed to this day. I was able to witness
students from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts production perform this play.
Shakespeare exposes the dark and ugly truth about gender inequality that occurred during the
Elizabethan Era. In the Messina society, the men were superior to women, and the women to
feel inferiors to the men. However, in this play, Beatrice is seen as an exception as she says Oh
that I were a man (The University of North Carolina School of the Arts production). For women,
honor was based on virginal chastity, while men were honored based on their social rank and
camaraderie. Shakespeare portrays Hero as the ideal women during the Renaissance period by
depicting her as quiet, polite and respectful. She follows the rules of the patriarchal society, like
submitting to her father s decisions and accepting her father s demand that she should say yes to
Don Pedro s marriage proposal. She offers no objection to the marriage proposal even though it
was from Claudio instead of Don Pedro. Hero will not say

Vaccines are also available for Hepatitis B and typhoid and can be given depending upon the
availability of the vaccine and ability of the person to pay.
As you can see, immunisation for certain diseases is given in more than one dose, spread over a
few months. Each one of these doses is essential for complete protection. The second dose is
called the booster dose . Remember, if at any stage you miss out on even one dose, the
immunisation will not be effective and will have to be started all over again.
Immediately after the child has been immunised, you may find that the child has mild fever.
However, there is no reason to worry as the fever will not last longer than a day or two.
Diarrhoea is very common in children. As you know, in diarrhoea, the faeces are

When a young woman is killed by a 25 foot killer great white shark while skinny dipping near the
New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) commits
himself to serve and protect his town by closing the beaches. Unfortunately, the mayor of the
island has a different idea. Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the
loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and
grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer 25 foot beast, and
the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature. Steven Spielbergs, Jawsis an instant classic horror

This is no mystery or surprise. The creature, which has long been the topic of numerous studies
and experiments, is still a source of great mystery. Why in the world does a shark need to grow
the size of a school bus? Who is it trying to impress with that massiveness? And those teeth? They
taught us in elementary school that a shark might use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime. If one
falls out, another replaces it. Say what you may about the special effects in Jaws, those teeth
look real and they will eat your face off. So, therefore the movie was so successful. Because of
the productions ability to create a mechanical shark that is similar in anatomy and identical to
the real predator, the film could create this higher sense of man vs nature, good vs evil. This
horror film will leave you wondering with the question of what if this happens to me. Spielberg
took something that was so real and had happened before (shark attacks), and produced a movie
that not only warned us and opened our eyes to its reality, but was also able to deliver us with one
of the most classic horror films in the history of

The dangers of teenage alcohol abuse are underestimated in our country due to the social
acceptability of the drug alcohol. The social acceptability of alcohol itself is seen by the
frequency it is categorized separately from other drugs and substances when we talk about use
and abuse. Alcohol is a drug but our nation and the media do not want to call it one or treat it like
one. Alcohol is a legal drug abused by many teenagers and this paper will address some of the
issues today s teenagers face when dealing with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents may think as long as their children are drinking beer instead of doing drug s its okay.
People in America do not want to wake up to the fact that alcohol is a drug and it does kill our
youth. Youth need to be educated on the affects alcohol can have on their bodies, and parents
and communities need to play a role in their education. Contrary to popular belief, youth do
drink alone just like some adults do. They drink to change their mood, alleviate boredom, and to
handle stress. Many youth will drink anything as they don t realize the difference in alcohol
content between hard liquor, beer, or wine (Novello, 1997). Even if teenagers attempt to read the
labels on alcoholic beverages, they may be confused due to obscure labeling. High school
students drink 35% of all the wine coolers consumed in the United States and they believe beer
has a higher alcohol content than wine coolers. According to the 2006 National Survey on Drug
Use and Health (NSDUH), in the past year, 32.9 percent of the youths surveyed from age 12 to 17
had used alcohol. According to the 2005 NSDUH survey, 74.3 percent of high school students
nationwide had already consumed one or more drinks in their lifetime. Many teenagers and children
get their information about alcohol from friends and the media. With these sources they do not have
sufficient information to advise them of the dangers of alcohol consumption (Pringle,

44. A New Competitor Successfully Entering The Market Essay
The ERI naturally tends towards a dominance of large platforms due to strong cross side network
effects. Thus, the following strategic challenges impact the viability of a new competitor
successfully entering the market. The ERI currently has significant barriers to entry due to
customer switching costs, brandidentity, customer loyalty and intellectual property. New
competitors would need a solution with enough value to justify a switch from the current leading
platform for both restaurants and diners. A new competitor in online reservations must face the
challenge of building both sides of its ecosystem: not enough restaurants on one side of the
network leaves little incentive for diners to sign up, and vice versa. Essentially, the RRI is winner
take all market and competitors need consider their chances of success before competing.
However, advancements in information technology (IT), specifically the internet and the cloud,
have highlighted the profitable concept of OpenTable s model and thus the threat of increased
competition is extremely high. The ERI is evolving rapidly and now is rich in enveloping
opportunities. The restaurant reservation industry is now primarily a technology based business
which means barriers to innovative disruption are high (May, 2015). A proliferation of competition
from other online booking platforms are now more easily able to incorporate similar features into
their own service, and these rapid technological changes may soon render Open
