Satire In Wizard Of Oz And A Modest Proposal
Satire has been a part of literature as long as there has been chaos in the world. Two of the most
famous satire pieces are The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and A Modest Proposal by Jonathan
Swift. Both author s lives can be directly tied to the theme of finding your way home in The
Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Ozbegins with Dorothy accidentally finding herself in the magical
land of Ozafter a tornado blows her away. She immediately wants to leave and return to her home
in Kansas. She starts a journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who can supposedly grant her wish.
Along the way she meets several friends who want The Wizard to fix their problems as well. One
of the infamous characters was the Scarecrow. While resting on their travels to the Emerald City,
Scarecrow asks Dorothy why she wishes to return home when Oz is so beautiful. She replies with
No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live
there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home. (Baum,
Chapter 4)
Dorothy thinks that she would be better off away from home before she even arrives in Oz, but as
soon as there is a chance that she may not be able to return, she misses it severely. Even though Oz
is whimsical and exciting, it just does not compare to her home. ... Show more content on

Frank Baum s life can relate to Dorothy s adventures in The Wizard of Oz. He was privileged as
a child, so he was allowed to focus more on the arts than manual labour or a trade. After Baum
left school, he started writing, his main work at first being on his self produced newspaper, The
Rose Lawn Home Journal. He also wrote a five act play called The Maid of Arran while traveling
with a Shakespearean troupe. After marrying Maud Gage in 1883, Baum started to stray away from
writing. From this point on, every time that he tried to keep a job that was not directly related to
storytelling, he was met with scant success. (Contemporary Authors

Ball Bounces High Experiment
Title: Which ball bounces higher experiment.
Aim: The aim of this experiment is to see which ball is better quality for bouncing and what is a
lot more reasonable for price and size.
Introduction: The experiment being tested is worth conducting as it can help people decide which
ball to get if they want a bouncy one, either it is expensive, cheap, big or small. One fact on balls is
that they are different and they bounce differently and are used differently. A netball has thinner
layers than what a basketball does, and a basketball is more used for bouncing that a netball.
Hypothesis: The basketball will bounce the highest as it has thicker layers, a strong grip and is
used for bouncing. A netball has thinner layers and can only be bounced

Music And Dance Of The Caribbean
MUSI 1004 Term Project
A.Video Review on the video of:
The JVC/ Smithsonian Folkways Video Anthology of Music and Dance of the Americas Volume 4:
Music and Dance of the Caribbean
In this video review, I am going to discuss the musical background and components observed in the
video about the Music and Dance of the Caribbean from Latin America.
On the background of Caribbean music: the Amerindians are the first people that have settled in the
Caribbean and thus are the pioneers of Caribbean music. Moreover, one can trace the original roots
of Caribbean music back to common roots in Africa since during the slave trade from Africa, many
rhythms were geographically transferred to the Western Hemisphere. As a result, the rhythms of
inhabitants in the indigenous island are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Caribbean music is performed for occasions of hunting, for working in the
agricultural fields. Their music can function as love songs, lullabies or tributes to the dead too.
Some Caribbean music are also found in large scale public celebrations such as carnivals, festivals
and competitions, such as track 4 1 (Tuk Band) and track 4 32 (Carnival Montage) in the video
where the performance occurs in an inter Caribbean cultural festival.
Besides, certain Caribbean music is considered to be of a more divine nature, which possesses
supernatural virtues that are not meant to be comprehended nor translated by the regular human.
Such Caribbean music are performed in the belief of communicating with the gods, or in order
to cure the sick and protect the inhabitants on the islands from evil spirits as well as earthly
enemies, or to show ritualistic devotion. This is seen for example in track 4 2 (Fiesta de Guiro) as
well as in track 4 28 which showcases a spiritual Baptist Rite.
Lastly, on the musical form, in the video Caribbean music includes a variety of

T. S. Eliot s Poem Preludes
Assignment 1: Poetry
Part A:
1.T.S. Eliot s poem Preludes showcases how modern life can be quite lonely. The poem is written
using free verse, which may have been used to help the author explain his deep thoughts in detail to
us; the readers. The rhyme pattern used in the first stanza is end rhyme; for example, the author
uses many words which end in similar sounding endings; such as, passageways days, wraps
scraps, stamps lamps. Eliot may have been using this specific rhyme pattern in order for him to
properly be able to display his character s lonely life in the poem. The way that Eliot words his
first stanza almost allows us to sympathize for the character s lonely lifestyle.

She uses very specific colors to describe the sunset ; such as, azure, peach, crimson, navy blue.
Her intention to using such words to describe the sunset was to give her readers a very real
feeling of a sunset and to make it seem to them as if they are the one s standing at the scene of the
sunset .
In the second stanza, Thesen describes the scene of a twinkling city which seems to be the location
of the sunset, but this twinkling city also seems to capture the authors attention away from the
sunset , since it may be equally as appealing as the sunset itself. The author doesn t fail to mention
a loner cloud which may be away the beauty of the sunset .
In the third stanza, it seems as if the author is now talking about hills; over closer hills which is an
abrupt change from talking about clouds, but then in stanza five Thesen refers to clouds again
which makes it seem as if she was not talking about hills previously, but about clouds. Clouds have
been mentioned two times now in the

Autobiography Of A Descriptive Baseball Player
I move to the edge of my seat, the ridges in the aluminum bleachers are very uncomfortable. I feel
the sun shining on my face. The cool northern breeze brushes across my cheeks and through my
hair. The player s bright white uniforms with royal blue lettering stand out against the green grass.
The knees of the player s pants stained with brown from the dirt, breaking up the white simplicity
of the bottom half of the uniform. The pitcher winds up, transferring every ounce of energy from
his toes, to his fingertips and, into the baseball. Within the blink of an eye the ball has left his hand
and entered the catcher s glove. The impact of the ball against the padded leather glove makes a
popping sound. Strike one. The fans begin to cheer. The batter

The Proposal В¬в€
Џ Directed By Anne Fletcher Essay
One of my personal all time favorite movies, The ProposalВё directed by Anne Fletcher, is a
drama/romance that illustrates two people who weren t meant to fall in love (Lieberman, 2009).
The following movie trailer assists in outlining the storyline of the movie and how a series of
unforeseen events can change animosity into romantic love.
From the beginning of the movie, Andrew and Margaret had a work relationship that embodied
intimacy. Intimacy, as defined by Kyle Hill, is [f]eelings of attachment, closeness, typified by
sharing secrets, etc. (Hill, 2012, May 18). The intimacy shared between Margaret and Andrew is
due to the nature of their career; they had spent [a]ll those late nights at the office and weekend
book fairs (Lieberman, 2009). As Margaret s assistant, Andrew handles some, if not most, of her
personal and private matters like the midnight Tampax runs and her appointments, Two years ago,
your dermatologist called and asked about a Q switched laser (Lieberman, 2009). Their work
relationship created an intimacy that typically is nonexistent between two coworkers or an
employee and their boss.
As the movie progressed, their relationship took on another component; commitment. Commitment,
as defined In The Triangular Theory of Love, is [a] willingness in the short term to create and
maintain a relationship and long term plans to sustain the relationship (Hill, 2012, May 18). The
commitment exhibited between Margaret and Andrew is not the

Separation And Ordeal Stages By Saadawi
Saadawi then uses the separation and ordeal stages as a platform to introduce the plight and
inequality of women that is deeply embedded in a patriarchal class system in which women endure
from a young age.
In fact, Firdaus begins to despise the society she s in, and believes a woman s life is bleak and
miserable. Her ordeal stage comprises of long and continuous battles between her and the men in
the world. The battles with her husband, Sheikh Mahmoud, left her emotionally and physically
wounded so she ran away only to encounter another battle named Bayoumi. These ordeals occur one
after the other, and after Bayoumi comes her descent into prostitution with her mentor Sharifa. Each

To continue, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party had several methods of convincing and portraying
specific groups of people as these horrible, and gruesome people. One of the most easy and very
eye appealing forms of methods for convincing people is propaganda. As in the book by Steven

clear that the propaganda being used at the time really did affect the way people saw everything in
society. Propaganda was used for four major concepts. For example, propaganda was used for votes

Adolf Hitler had a huge influence on perfecting Germany. It all started of course with his hatred
towards the Jews. He strongly believed in Aryan racial supremacy. Adolf Hitler while spending
time in prison wrote a book called Mein Kampf , and this book was filled with all of Hitler s own
person thoughts, and experiences. It even states in the book how his hate for Jews gradually
started getting more, and more greater throughout time. His views came to be with the help of a
pamphlet he bought for only a short pennies. His first anti Semitism revelation was when he had
actually started noticing the large number of Jews. For instance, Adolf Hitler describes in his
autobiography through his own observations, which he made while in Vienna, In a short time I
was made more thoughtful than ever by slowly rising insight into the type of activity carried on
by the Jews in certain fields... Sometimes I stood thunderstruck. I didn t know what to be more
amazed at: the agility of their tongues or their virtuosity at lying... Gradually I began to hate them.
With his own personal experience, and feelings towards Jews it was no coincidence that once he
took power he would potentially go after that race first. Afterall, he was nationalistic, believed

Psychosurgery is often called neurosurgery for the mental ill/disordered. It was said that the
surgery could destroy brain tissue and eliminate the symptoms of mental illness all together. Even
though it was first used by Gotttlieb Burckhardt it was not a popular procedure until American
neurologist Walter Freeman. Freeman had a specific form of psychosurgery and that was

Post Civil War North Carolina
Post Civil War North Carolina, as a part of the New South , was supposed to be an economically
and morally prosperous state that was no longer reliant on slave labor. Unfortunately, the
abolition of slavery did not abolish the misfortune of black and white North Carolinians alike
before 1900. Racism was still very much alive, blacks did not enjoy the rights they supposedly
acquired after the war, the same rich families from before the war were still rich, and the people
that were poor before the war were still struggling.
The New South mentality attempted to modernize North Carolina s previously agrarian economy
through industrialization. Businessmen, such as Richard J. Reynolds, strategically erected
factories in North Carolina for access to its prestigious railroads to swiftly transport their
products. Factory owners had no trouble finding employees, as many North Carolinians were
eager to avoid the hardships of farm labor. Towns began to rise around the factories after the
influx of laborers came about. Such a plethora of potential workers allowed factory owners to pay
their employees drastically low wages as they reaped the benefits of cheap labor. Low wages
combined with pitiful working conditions resulted in these factory towns resembling life on slave
plantations before the war.
North Carolina tobacco factories manufactured and sold such high volumes of tobacco products
world wide that they became the face of the industry. For example, a Bull Durham smoking

Essay on The English Reformation
Though there was no driving force like Luther, Zwingli or Calvin during the English
Reformation, it succeeded because certain people strived for political power and not exactly for
religious freedom. People like Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII brought the Reformation in
England much success, however their reasons were based on self gain and desire for political power.
Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I may have been the English Reformation s greatest benefactors, all
because of self interest. Henry VIII was not originally Protestant, but after the pope denied him of
his divorce, Henry VIII took things into his own hands. Due to the power kings had in the Middle

Nationalism made the Catholics believe that Henry VIII was right to remove the pope even though
they may not have agreed with Henry s decisions. This change gave the Lutherans and other
reformers great hope also, knowing now that their greatest rival, the pope, had been deposed.
Unfortunately, other Englishmen who stood firm against the Act of Supremacy met strong
opposition from the king. Soon after, another law was passed called the Law of Treason and
Heresy. This law made sure that everyone recognized the king as the head of the church and more
importantly, brought punishments to anyone who did not receive the king as the lawful head of the
Church of England.
In the early 1500s, Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury, grew in the favor of Henry
VIII. When Henry VIII was attempting to divorce Catherine of Aragon, Thomas Cranmer helped
Henry VIII build his case for the annulment of the marriage. Thomas Cranmer also supported the
law of Royal Supremacy, which made the king the head of the Church. These things led to
Thomas Cranmer getting in Henry VIII good books which later helped him once Edward VI
acceded the throne. Thomas Cranmer s willingness to compromise helped him reach such a
powerful position in the church so quickly. If Cranmer had gone about things the way Luther did,
he would have easily been executed for heresy and defying the Law of Treason and Heresy by
revolting against the king. By compromising some

Definition Of Competitive Intelligence ( Ci )
1.Definition of Competitive Intelligence (CI).
CI is the collection of information, internal, external and from competitors, but also from
customers, suppliers, technologies, environments, and potential business to provide early warning
and help to predict the moves of competitors, customers, and governments (Calof and Wright, 2008,
p. 723; Gilad, 1996).
Competitive Intelligence is the process of collecting, analyzing, and distributing actionable
intelligence about customers, producer, suppliers and competitors, so as to help the receiver of this
actionable intelligence to make an informed decision about organisational strategy.

During the 1980s, Apple (computer) thought its main competitor was IBM whilst an enterprise
known as Microsoft proceeded to take over the computing industry. This proves that employing the
right CI professionals will guarantee you the right intelligence 90% of the time, hence creating
value for the organisation.
According to (Miller N.d), a study conducted by academics in 1995 at the University of North
Texas showed that companies that practice CI typically outperformed those who do not in three
critical areas: average sales, market share, and profitability. This further proves that CI practice
/operations pays off and creates financial value to the company. This study further indicates that
there is a positive relationship between CI and the financial performance of companies. Therefore
CI contributes to the bottom line of the organisation.
4.Is CI a stigmatized practice?
Investigating competitors and commercial espionage is certainly now not the same thing. This is
how the stigma associated with CI practices came about, as people would perceive CI
professionals as people that spy on other companies to obtain an advantage over them. CI is the
accumulating of information on rivals via legal and valid ways, such as text mining, internet
mining, published data, and

The Democratic Process Of Southeast Asian Countries
The democratic process of Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore, has seen
very little significant changes from civil society action. While each of these countries have
claimed to be democratic nations, there has been little change in terms of government rule since
their independence. These civil society groups are ones that reflect the ideas and values of a group
of people, in pursuit of a common goal. The changes that have resulted are in Malaysiaand
Singapore s governments, have been to restructure or assert their power to maintain control over
these civil societies. This has been accomplished through media reform and regulations.
Opposition to these ruling systems have been met with great friction, but nonetheless have seen
some success in changing the state of its operation in small ways, yet not significantly due to the
scope of their power. As democratic nations, Malaysia and Singapore, do hold elections though
only one party has held power in each nation since their independence. Malaysia has been
governed by the United Malays National Organization (Lec: 9/7) since 1957 and Singapore has
been ruled by the People s Action Party since 1965 (Lec: 9/21). Governmental positions have
mostly been uncontested with walkover winnings (Lec: 9/26) since this time, due to election
tactics. UMNO has maintained control of the political sphere by ruling as a coalition, offering

Eminent Domain Case Analysis
This seems to be the fundamental issue underlying the paper: a pernicious sense of what is
valuable. Multiple times, the paper asserts that the be all, end all metric of value ought to be
economic value, specifically the value derived from synergistic arrangements of real property. But
viewing a situation through this lens dehumanizes the situation. It leads to situations where we can,
with a straight face, describe human settlement as clutter to be disposed of. Indeed, alternative
metrics of value exist which add nuance to the situation. Sentimental or cultural value, for
example, may be entirely at odds with economic value. Were a city to grow and encompass sacred

out the individuals who made the decision to condemn their homes for an ultimately disastrous
product. In a callable fee or floating fee situation, voters have little ability to seek redress, instead
nurturing feelings of political disenfranchisement and anti establishment resentment. Further, the
threat of losing their seats incentivizes politicians to carefully examine any proposed development
and only exercise their power when reasonably sure of its success, minimizing potential mishaps.
Thus, voters are both empowered and incentives are put in place to encourage careful decision
making concerning development

Gender and Sport Socialization Essay
Gender and Sport Socialization
Socialization is a life long process whereby the individual learns the appropriate roles and norms
of behaviour within a particular society. From birth, children are socialised into sex linked roles;
in many instances males are expected to behave in a masculine way and are encouraged to be
involved in activities, such as sport, that are traditionally regarded as male. Women however are
usually expected to behave in a feminine manner; a vast contrast to the encouragement of males to
be strong, powerful, forceful and aggressive. This is reflected in women s participation in sport, and
more importantly, their coverage in the print media, which is minimal in comparison to their male
counterparts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media s linking of the skill of key sports with maleness and the constant exposure of the public
to this process, has the effect of inferiorising femaleness and female activities. By implication, it
seems that women cannot do certain skilful things that the media value highly. (Williams, Louise.
Silent Armies Storm the Last Male Bastion . The Weekend Australia, February 16 17, 1985). Such
examples include ...powerful tackles...impressive slam dunk... (The Age, 24/2/2001) which are
viewed as predominately male skills, and an attribute women cannot compete with.
Notions of femininity influence views about how girls should be. This can create conflict for girls
who participate in sports that require unfeminine behaviour and produce unfeminine bodyshapes .
Women are depicted in the media in ways that reinforce the prevailing community attitudes and
stereotypes about them. They are not viewed as strong, heroic figures to be idolised on the basis
of their talent and sporting achievements. Rather in many cases, women s coverage is on the basis
of sporting fashion . A classic example of this being the extensive coverage of women s fashion in
the Australian Open tennis tournament recently held in Melbourne; Anna Kournicova becoming a
symbol for women s tennis due to her

Paul of Tarsus Essay
Paul of Tarsus
Contribution to the development and expression of Christianity
Paul of Tarsus (originally Saul of Tarsus) is widely considered to be central to the early
development and adoption of Christianity. Many Christians view him as an important interpreter of
the teachings of Jesus. Little is known of the birth and early childhood of Paul, then known as
Saul. It is known in the scriptures that he was born in the city of Tarsus (Acts 22:3) located in the
Roman province of Cilicia around the year 5 A.D. Saul left his home during his early adolescence
and was taken to Jerusalem for his formal education in the most prominent rabbinical schools of that
day. Young Saul had the privilege to be trained by Gamaliel, the most outstanding... Show more

On the road to Damascus the Lord intervenes in Saul s life (Acts 9: 3 6) and he is genuinely
converted during that encounter with the Lord Jesus. Under the ministry of Ananias (a disciple)
he was also healed and filled with the Holy Spirit. Saul now known as Paul from that moment on
immediately began preaching Christ in the synagogues of Damascus. Paul s preaching was very
convincing and disturbing to the Damascus Jews to the point where they desired to kill him.
Therefore, the other Christian disciples assisted him in his escape by night (Acts 9:22 25) that he
may escape to Arabia. Paul s missionary Journeys were defining actions of him, he usually set foot
with other companions and he endured hardships on these voyages. He was imprisoned, lashed and
stoned several times and almost murdered once (2 Cor. 11:24 27).
Paul s distinctive contribution to Christianity is his heresy the doctrine of salvation by faith. A
salvation available not just to the descendants of Abraham, but to the pagan, non Jewish world
as well. When he was writing to those in the Roman capital, Paul makes the declaration that
proved to be the cornerstone of all his writings Romans 1:16 17, For I am not ashamed of the
gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to
the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written,

The Tragedy Of A Tragic Hero
FORMS
Tragedy. The protagonist (hero or heroine) is overcome in the conflict and meets a tragic end. The
tone is serious and build in the audience a fatalistic sense of the inevitability of the outcome and, as
a result, is sometimes frightening. Yet the inescapable aspects of the catastrophe serve as a catharsis
that somehow inexplicably purges the viewer of pity and fear. The significance, then, is not that the
protagonist meets with an inevitable catastrophe, but rather the degree to which he or she deals
with the conflict and the tragedy with dignity, courage, and honor.

Volcanoes Stereotypes
Volcanoes are fascinating things that get stereotyped. Many people think of volcanoes are a
destruction to Earth. In reality they help the Earth in many ways. Volcanoes enrich soil, creates
jobs, and form beautiful scenery.
Over 10,000 years ago a humongous volcano erupted in Naples, Italy. The debri and ash from the
volcano has enrich or improved the soil. This soil has gained nutrition and other minerals
making the soil great for plant growth. The crops there have been intensely growing for over
2,000 years. Plants are reacting to the soil fertilization very well. The soil is making it easier to
grow crops, the soil has allowed the plants to really set their roots and start growing. Volcanoes

They had the body shipped to England to be examined, as well as many of Tutankhamun s

president of the Egyptian Museum insisted that they bring them back to Egypt because they

Compare And Contrast A Barred Owl And The History Teacher
It s the dead of the night and the shrieking calls of a barred owl break the silence. A young child
bolts upright in bed with fear written across her innocent face. A teacher s class is about to be
taught a lesson on The Ice Age. The parents of the frightened child hush their daughter and say it
was just an inquisitive owl that scared her awake. The teacher pulls on a sweater and says,
Cavemen wore these a lot in The Ice Age. The children in these scenarios are the victims of deceit.
Both poems, A Barred Owl and The History Teacher by Richard Wilbur and Billy Collins show the
effects of not exposing children to the truth early on in life. The parent and teacher mentioned are
only concerned about their children s innocence remaining intact, and they don t take into
consideration how sheltering them from the truth life holds will affect the children s minds. Wilbur
and Collins... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the child was put to bed, the sky was probably not as dark as it was when she was woken
by the owl. Wilbur s words reveal this when the poem begins on a lighter note than the gruesome
ending. An owl has eyes that are much larger than those of the child mentioned. That being said,
this barred owl can clearly see the world and the life around him. The child cannot due to the fact
that her parents are preventing her from such exposure. Innocent minds deserve a healthy dose of
reality provided in the form of truthful explanations from the adults in their lives. The poem, The
History Teacher leans towards a more playful and bright tone than the tone Wilbur used in A
Barred Owl. It almost sounds ironic that Collins titled the poem, The History Teacher because
when spoken in a sarcastic tone it sounds like he s mocking the teacher. He calls him a history
teacher sarcastically because the poet agrees with the fact that this teacher isn t actually teaching
history. He s feeding the children

The Importance of the Renaissance to the Reformation in...
The Importance of the Renaissance to the Reformation in Germany
The reformation was a movement that fundamentally challenged the authority of the Roman
Catholic Church. The role of the clergy was undermined and the relationships between national
countries and the Roman Catholic Church were threatened.
The renaissance began in Italy during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries through patronage and
the flourishing society, and Rome achieved cultural prominence. It later spread throughout Europe
and began a rediscovery of classical thoughts and influenced painters, such as Raphael and
Michelangelo, sculptors such as Donatello and writers, such as Johann Reuchlin, Ulrich Von Hutten
and Desiderius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was significant, as the church had seen itself as the sole interpreter of the bible; this made the
bible the main authority for religious belief and not the church. The circulation of literature also
meant that much of the laity had access to knowledge and so become literate and consequentially
the Catholic Church s monopoly over education and communicating was broken up.
Martin Luther, a scholar and Augustian Friar, had also been influenced by the renaissance and
humanism and had developed his own ideas about salvation, the treasury of merits and the issues
taught by the Roman Catholic Church. His ideas were based upon the scriptures, sola scriptura, as
these were the only things that were beyond fallibility, he believed that original texts should also
be studied. Luther also believed that it was by man s own faith that he could achieve eternal
salvation, sola fide, and that god alone decided a man s fate, therefore good deeds and the
purchasing of indulgences and merits were worthless.
In 1517, Johann Tetzel came to England, authorised by the Archbishop Albrecht to sell indulgences,
to raise money for he debts he owed to Rome. Selling of indulgences exacerbated Luther. He felt
that the Roman Catholic Church, who were supposedly trying to help people reach eternal
salvation; were not fulfilling its duty, as a truly repentant Christian had already gained remission

The Social Birth Order Theory
The Social Birth Order Theory
In the world of psychology, nature versus nurture is a common theme theorists attribute to
differences in the personalities of children. However, there may be other influences that have
greater impact early in life. When it comes to the disposition of a person, the order in which they
were born within a family leaves an ineffaceable effect. A child s inclination toward certain
personality traits can be the result of their inherent position within their family. Many famous
psychologists theorize about and study the effects of family birth order among siblings. The most
renowned psychologist in the world, Sigmund Freud, broke away from a group of his original
psychoanalysts due to a dispute about birth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They mature as only children, pampered and the center of attention, until their siblings are born
and they are dethroned (Allpsych). First born children, when compared to their siblings, tend to
have a greater chance of developing feelings of inferiority as their focal position in the family
structure is altered by the birth of a sibling (Bnet). They often are especially vulnerable to stress,
and have a strong desire to gain attention and seek the approval of others (Allpysch). Unlike the
independent leaders only children become, oldest children can be left feeling cheated and
unsuccessful. Adler himself was a middle child of three. His categories of second born and
middle children of large families are almost identical. The second born child can be epitomized by
a dream in which the child is constantly running but going nowhere (Webspace). They are
constantly overshadowed by their older siblings. However, they do tend to have stronger social
skills (Bnet). Second and middle children become very spontaneous and adaptable from constantly
dealing with both older and younger siblings. Having children both older and younger in the family
seems to leave a positive influence on middle children. While the oldest and youngest may team up
together, the second becomes the mediator between the two. This obviously leaves a lasting effect
on their personality as second born children are often predominant in fighting injustice later in life

Analysis Of The Movie The Dark Knight
What is the typical menu of villainous images placed before us when we dine out at a movie
theater? A scientist has his face deep cleaned in a bell jar of acid to the epidermal enthusiasm of
his beauticians (Darkman); a psychopathic criminal mastermind reigns chaos to the citizens of
Gotham (The Dark Knight) and another sequel, eight years on, despite his tarnished reputation
after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent s crimes, caped crusader
feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope
with the villain s (who knows the caped crusader all too well) plans to destroy the city (The Dark
Knight Rises). This raises the question; Is the role of the villain in Hollywood important for a
successful movie? In the movie industry, the success of a movie is based on the amount of
revenue the movie brings in, creativity (whether it be time frame or characters), and the story
line of the movie. But in order to form a valid opinion on whether or not a villain is needed in a
movie to be considered successful, first we must discuss the history of movies that included
villains, iconic movie villains and the success of their movies, and finally, the importance of the
villain in cinema. Literature Review/Background America s collective unconscious has always

A Research on African-American Literature
African American Literature Introduction The history of African Americans in America has
been a tale of relentless desire for the American Dream of freedom and prosperity. White
America s reactions to that desire and the resulting struggles in different periods have been
faithfully chronicled by Art, Music and Literature. Though there are numerous works
recounting racial relations in America, the three assigned readings, To My Old Master, Sonny s
Blues and Birmingham Sunday, give exceptional reflections of the 1860 s 1950 s and 1960 s
America by notable African Americans. To My Old Master by Jourdon Anderson To My Old
Master (Young, 1996, pp. 15 16) is chronologically the first of the three selected readings and is a
letter written on August 7, 1865. Written 1 year after the author s emancipation and only 4
months after the end of the American Civil War, Anderson s letter is clearly the product of the
struggle between North and South regarding slavery, the emancipation of slaves by the
Emancipation Proclamation during the War, and the ability of former slaves to carve a successful
niche for themselves as capable and newly free people who were finally given a chance to
succeed. The author apparently received correspondence from his former slave owner requesting
that Anderson return to Tennessee and work on his former owner s farm. Unfortunately for the
Colonel, when Anderson received the Colonel s request, the former slave had already become

Do HBCU s better prepare African American students for careers versus PWI s
Following the ending of the civil war where the southern states within America tried to

place.(Cozzens) Of these changes was the creation of the freedmen s bureau which served the
purpose of creating educational institutions for African Americans , this historically black
colleges and universities (HBCU s) were founded.(Purnell) Since then, the condition of African
Americans in America has changed, some progress has been made despite there being more
room for improvement. Within this tale of the African Americanstriving for success in
livelihood in America one may bring up an important argument or inquiry; are historically black
colleges and universities better for African American students than predominantly white
institutions(PWI)? This essay will argue as well as compare and contrast if HBCU s are better
for African American students or PWI s. In modern times many college or university graduates
regardless of race struggle to find careers. If there is a general challenge in finding a career
following undergrad then one can infer that this struggle may affect African American graduates

The meeting of Cleopatra with Caesar was sudden and unexpected. During 48 B.C., a civil war

The Causes And Effects Of Violent Video Games
Violent video games have always been a hot topic since the release of the first Mortal Kombat in
October 1992 for home consoles, which, because of its violence, resulted in the creation of the
Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). There have been studies that show a correlation
between violent video games and aggressionresulting in both an increase and decrease in
aggression among players, but all if not most studies have only been short term experiments. The
real question is whether violent video games cause an increase in short term aggression to the point
where the players start to commit violent actions because of it, but, if the aggression does increase,
how to prevent the short term aggression from increasing to the point where it becomes a problem
without taking the games away.

Enterprise content management (ECM) is the strategy of managing the content across an
organization, so that it can be retrieved from the database whenever it s required. These content can
be structured or unstructured and its very required for an organization for its smooth running of
process(Xue Yahya, 2012). Below figure represents the steps involved in an ECM system of an
organization.
Fig1.
Earlier the ECM systems were deployed in on premise systems with servers residing behind the
company firewall (ADOCS, 2015). Although it has the advantage of control of security, easy
integration, independent of internet etc. It was much costly particularly in maintenance and was
very time consuming for an upgrade or system expansion. The scalability options were limited and
the size of the document continues to increase and there the storage requirement.
To address all the above issues of an on premise ECM system, organization started opting for an off
premises deployment like in cloud. Cloud computing as defined by (Mell Grance, 2011) is a shared

Describe and Evaluate Circadian Rhythms
Describe circadian rhythms (8marks)
Circadian rhythms occur every 24 hours; an example of a circadian rhythm is the sleep waking
cycle. We are diurnal animals who are active during the daytime and asleep at night, other animals
are nocturnal they are active at night but asleep during the day. The circadian rhythm depends on the
interaction of physiological and psychological processes to be tuned into the sleep waking cycle
so energy is provided when needed. As diurnal humans we have a fairly stable sleep pattern with
the time we go to sleep and the time we wake up, this consistency suggests an internal mechanism
controls sleep, endogenous pacemaker. However, this can be overridden by external factors,
exogenous zeitgebers.
The endogenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When using non humans there needs to be justification to inflict this kind of sacrifice, due to the
number of rats that did die during this study is a major concern and as Stephan and Zucker s study
was conducted in 1972 before the regulations were tightened, it is unlikely their study would be
permitted today.
To explain the control of biological rhythms by just referring to endogenous pacemakers such as
the SCN is an example of biological reductionism. This is a limited approach as it is partial and
does not take account of the interaction of endogenous pacemakers with exogenous zeitgeber. The
psychologists assume that the damage to the SCN is the only causation of the disturbed sleep there
is no consideration that the sleep waking cycle could be a more complex mechanism. The SCN is
connected to the pineal gland which could be the underlying cause of the disturbed sleep, due to the
damage of the SCN this connection may mean that melatonin is no longer secreted efficiently. This
would suggest that the SCN is only a factor within a larger pathway. Michel Siffre however did take
into account the interaction of endogenous pacemakers and exogenous zeitgebers.
Siffer, a French geologist, spent six months in a cave with no natural light; his biological rhythms
became free running in the absence of light. The cave was artificially lit and Siffre had a phone to

along an assembly line, to room service, thus allowing in patients to choose nutritious meals. The
health care industry is ever more competitive, and hospitals are now recognizing patients as
customers, and seeking ways to influence patients satisfaction scores during a hospitalstay (K. Kim,

What is a trend and what makes a trend a trend? What causes people to partake in trends?
A trend is a large, measurable shift that influences our value and behavior. A trend is triggered
when a force asserts itself on a culture, forcing that culture to respond and change. Trends stick
with people and usually makes a big difference in the life of people who are caught in the trend.
There are many types of trends, such as clothing trends, technology trends, electronic trends,
beauty trends, etc.. When asking ourselves why do people partake in trends we realize how easy
this question can be answered. Advertisements and the feeling of fitting in influence every single
one of us to take part in a trend. We may not realize we are in a trend because they can be so
simple, but we are. Wearing sweaters, jeans, and Uggs is a fall/winter trend and many people are
caught in the trend without realizing they are because it s such a simple outfit you don t think
much of it. A popular trend that has a lot of people trying new things is the activated charcoal
trend. Activated charcoal is being used for both health and beauty. The use of activated charcoal

Later in the novel Frederic does realize he does love Catherine in Chapter 14. He shows this by

hospital and Frederic confides in him that he hates the war and believes it is a hopeless effort.
In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, the Italian retreat from Caporetto was depicted strongly in book

which terrifies the Italian army. Then Frederic, Bonello, Piani, and Aymo drive around town with
an endless column of people and vehicles behind them. Additionally, in this chapter they have to
kill a soldier due to the fear of being overtaken. These three chapters describe the hardships of war
from the perspective of Frederic.

The study used a single intramuscular injection with a variety of dosages of the drugs Peramivir,
Zanamivir, and Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) in mice infected with the H1N1 influenza virus that caused
the 2009 Pandemic in the United States. The study used the mean day of death that the average
number of days that the mice survived following infection with H1N1. Evaluation of the weight
loss differences in the mice of the study was performed using a one way analysis of variance
(ANOVA). The mice in the study experience weight loss and mortality following H1N1 infection
therefore efficacy of the antivirals was evaluated on weight loss per mouse and mean day to the
death of the mice. Mice injected with Peramivir showed better survivability rates than those
receiving the same dosages of Zanamivir, and Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) when initially infected with
the H1N1 influenza virus. Support of our hypothesis is seen by noting that during the pandemic of
2009 Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) was the initial drug of choice and treated people infected with H1N1
successfully. However as the pandemic spread across the United States antiviral resistance was
noted as increasing commensurate with the number of days the pandemic raged. The strains used to
infect the mice in the study were the later strains collected at the end of the 2009 pandemic where
the Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistance was initially noted. No significant increases of antiviral

today but some important and strong ones include: More government regulation of immigration
laws, Taxes and abortion. Jane needs to prioritize this issues and present them in a clear and concise

Also being a pro active entrepreneur, Jane can practically show how small and large businesses can
thrive in a tax friendly environment, thereby winning the heart of conservative Texans. The
campaign theme will help paint Jane as a committed conservative Republican, which is out to
reduce government spending. It could thus lead to a decrease in national debt.
Also proposing incentives for small businesses and reduced taxes for the rest of the population, she
is most likely to get the Republican votes. The fact that various regions of Texashave varied
economic status, the issue of taxation for the working class will need to be tailored for each
affected region and to be delivered with caution (Newell, Prinde, Riddleperger, 2013).
Abortion is a highly discussed issue nationwide, even among different ethnic groups as it tends to
affect all. The initial abortion bill indicates that medical providers to provide abortion only at the
facilities that are fully equipped to carry out the procedures. This is in fact protecting the right of
the Texans women and also reducing the numbers of abortion facilities that are all over the state.
This in part is also continuing in the culture that builds the foundations of the state of Texas. She
could also use the issue of abortion as an excellent entry point to discuss women and healthcare.
This controversial issue affects all Texans as a whole and therefore not

Reflective Essay On Universal Education
Universal Education Countless countries benefit from a capitalistic system, but others, like
Denmark, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, have a more socialistic giving society,
offering free or low cost schools, universal medical care, as well as supportive welfare to citizens.
The world would gain from a higher quality of free education. My beliefs of a fair universal
education offered to every child, no matter their place of origin, are influenced by experiencing the
benefits of free education growing up in Czechoslovakia, by living in the Netherlands, and the
United States. As a child growing up under the strict influence of forbidden profits of capitalism
and receiving the education free of charge, socialistic ideals shape my worldview. Being born in
Czechoslovakia (the Czech Republicsince 1993) under a communist, socialist regime with
underlying suppressed democracy during the Soviet Union occupation, my worldview is based
on a child s idealistic views of living and equality of people. Even though the restricted media and
a limited amount of imported goods made it easier for the communist government to influence and
dictate the mainstream population, I was shielded from the political world, because I was a child
and only gaining the benefits of excellent education. In 4th Grade, many students, including me
and my brother, were selected and received a written proposal to be part of selective public talent
schools, covering programs like STEM, languages,

Sand Flies Research Paper
Sand flies (Diptera: Nematocera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae) are a medically important group
of insects in Tropical and Sub tropical regions of the World (Rodani, 1840). They are small hairy
yellow or gray colored insects 1.5 4mm in length (Robert, 1994).There are three features that
make sand flies easy to recognize: when at rest, they characteristically hold their wings at an
angle above the abdomen; they are hairy; and they typically hop around on the host before
settling down to bite (Killick Kendrick, 1999). The life cycle of sand fly commences with the
egg stage, followed by four larval instars, pupa, and adults. Egg and larval dormancy and

How Far Henry the Eighth Pursued New Policies During the Period 1509 1514 Henry VIII
became king in 1509. His policies were completely different to his fathers , Henry VII. Henry VII
was a wise and calculating man, who would think through his actions before he would take them,
he would consider the long term and short term advantages and disadvantages of his actions.
However Henry VIII was quite the opposite and he was emotional and took decisions straight
away without analyzing them unlike his father. These differences caused Henry VIII to purse new
policies and abolish the traditional ones which had been used by his father. When Henry VIII took

When Henry VII was on the throne he had been imposing heavy taxes on the people. The people
despised taxes and especially hated the two main taxmen, Richard Empson and Edmund Dudley. So
Henry VIII tried to gain the popularity and the support of the people by executing Richard Empson
and Edmund Dudley. This definitely gave him the short term popularity he was after, but without
tax, this would affect his finances. Henry VIII s decision to continue the Hundred Years War cost
the government a lot. Around ВЈ1.7 million was spent on preparing England and its allies for war.
His aim was to seize the French Crown, and make England and himself greater, by means of war.
His policy on finance was not like his fathers, he didn t realise what problems he would face after
stopping tax. His ally in the war was his Father in law, Ferdinand Aragon and it was decided that
Spain and England would go to war against France in 1512. But Henry VIII s ideas of conquering
France did not succeed. Firstly because the Spanish did not turn up to fight, due to the Pyrenees
mountains, on the border of Spain and France. The English troops get dysentery due to the water
in France as it was contaminated. Even though Henry VIII failed to attack France, this didn t
prevent him from trying again. In 1513, Henry VIII decided to attack France again, this time with
the help of Maximilian who was

  • 2. Satire In Wizard Of Oz And A Modest Proposal Satire has been a part of literature as long as there has been chaos in the world. Two of the most famous satire pieces are The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. Both author s lives can be directly tied to the theme of finding your way home in The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Ozbegins with Dorothy accidentally finding herself in the magical land of Ozafter a tornado blows her away. She immediately wants to leave and return to her home in Kansas. She starts a journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who can supposedly grant her wish. Along the way she meets several friends who want The Wizard to fix their problems as well. One of the infamous characters was the Scarecrow. While resting on their travels to the Emerald City, Scarecrow asks Dorothy why she wishes to return home when Oz is so beautiful. She replies with No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home. (Baum, Chapter 4) Dorothy thinks that she would be better off away from home before she even arrives in Oz, but as soon as there is a chance that she may not be able to return, she misses it severely. Even though Oz is whimsical and exciting, it just does not compare to her home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frank Baum s life can relate to Dorothy s adventures in The Wizard of Oz. He was privileged as a child, so he was allowed to focus more on the arts than manual labour or a trade. After Baum left school, he started writing, his main work at first being on his self produced newspaper, The Rose Lawn Home Journal. He also wrote a five act play called The Maid of Arran while traveling with a Shakespearean troupe. After marrying Maud Gage in 1883, Baum started to stray away from writing. From this point on, every time that he tried to keep a job that was not directly related to storytelling, he was met with scant success. (Contemporary Authors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aim: The aim of this experiment is to see which ball is better quality for bouncing and what is a lot more reasonable for price and size. Introduction: The experiment being tested is worth conducting as it can help people decide which ball to get if they want a bouncy one, either it is expensive, cheap, big or small. One fact on balls is that they are different and they bounce differently and are used differently. A netball has thinner layers than what a basketball does, and a basketball is more used for bouncing that a netball. On the background of Caribbean music: the Amerindians are the first people that have settled in the Caribbean and thus are the pioneers of Caribbean music. Some Caribbean music are also found in large scale public celebrations such as carnivals, festivals and competitions, such as track 4 1 (Tuk Band) and track 4 32 (Carnival Montage) in the video where the performance occurs in an inter Caribbean cultural festival. Besides, certain Caribbean music is considered to be of a more divine nature, which possesses supernatural virtues that are not meant to be comprehended nor translated by the regular human. Such Caribbean music are performed in the belief of communicating with the gods, or in order to cure the sick and protect the inhabitants on the islands from evil spirits as well as earthly enemies, or to show ritualistic devotion. • 5. T. S. Eliot s Poem Preludes Assignment 1: Poetry Part A: 1.T.S. Eliot s poem Preludes showcases how modern life can be quite lonely. The poem is written using free verse, which may have been used to help the author explain his deep thoughts in detail to us; the readers. The rhyme pattern used in the first stanza is end rhyme; for example, the author uses many words which end in similar sounding endings; such as, passageways days, wraps scraps, stamps lamps. Eliot may have been using this specific rhyme pattern in order for him to properly be able to display his character s lonely life in the poem. The way that Eliot words his first stanza almost allows us to sympathize for the character s lonely lifestyle. 2.Theodore Roethke s Prayer uses the end rhyme pattern ... Her intention to using such words to describe the sunset was to give her readers a very real feeling of a sunset and to make it seem to them as if they are the one s standing at the scene of the sunset . In the second stanza, Thesen describes the scene of a twinkling city which seems to be the location of the sunset, but this twinkling city also seems to capture the authors attention away from the sunset , since it may be equally as appealing as the sunset itself. The author doesn t fail to mention a loner cloud which may be away the beauty of the sunset . In the third stanza, it seems as if the author is now talking about hills; over closer hills which is an abrupt change from talking about clouds, but then in stanza five Thesen refers to clouds again which makes it seem as if she was not talking about hills previously, but about clouds. The Proposal В¬в€ Џ Directed By Anne Fletcher Essay One of my personal all time favorite movies, The ProposalВё directed by Anne Fletcher, is a drama/romance that illustrates two people who weren t meant to fall in love (Lieberman, 2009). The following movie trailer assists in outlining the storyline of the movie and how a series of unforeseen events can change animosity into romantic love. From the beginning of the movie, Andrew and Margaret had a work relationship that embodied intimacy. Intimacy, as defined by Kyle Hill, is [f]eelings of attachment, closeness, typified by sharing secrets, etc. (Hill, 2012, May 18). As the movie progressed, their relationship took on another component; commitment. Racism was still very much alive, blacks did not enjoy the rights they supposedly acquired after the war, the same rich families from before the war were still rich, and the people that were poor before the war were still struggling. The New South mentality attempted to modernize North Carolina s previously agrarian economy through industrialization. Businessmen, such as Richard J. Reynolds, strategically erected factories in North Carolina for access to its prestigious railroads to swiftly transport their products. Factory owners had no trouble finding employees, as many North Carolinians were eager to avoid the hardships of farm labor. Towns began to rise around the factories after the influx of laborers came about. Such a plethora of potential workers allowed factory owners to pay their employees drastically low wages as they reaped the benefits of cheap labor. Low wages combined with pitiful working conditions resulted in these factory towns resembling life on slave plantations before the war. North Carolina tobacco factories manufactured and sold such high volumes of tobacco products world wide that they became the face of the industry. For example, a Bull Durham smoking ... Essay on The English Reformation Though there was no driving force like Luther, Zwingli or Calvin during the English Reformation, it succeeded because certain people strived for political power and not exactly for religious freedom. People like Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII brought the Reformation in England much success, however their reasons were based on self gain and desire for political power. Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I may have been the English Reformation s greatest benefactors, all because of self interest. Nationalism made the Catholics believe that Henry VIII was right to remove the pope even though they may not have agreed with Henry s decisions. This change gave the Lutherans and other reformers great hope also, knowing now that their greatest rival, the pope, had been deposed. Unfortunately, other Englishmen who stood firm against the Act of Supremacy met strong opposition from the king. Soon after, another law was passed called the Law of Treason and Heresy. This law made sure that everyone recognized the king as the head of the church and more importantly, brought punishments to anyone who did not receive the king as the lawful head of the Church of England. In the early 1500s, Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury, grew in the favor of Henry VIII. When Henry VIII was attempting to divorce Catherine of Aragon, Thomas Cranmer helped Henry VIII build his case for the annulment of the marriage. Thomas Cranmer also supported the law of Royal Supremacy, which made the king the head of the Church. These things led to Thomas Cranmer getting in Henry VIII good books which later helped him once Edward VI acceded the throne. Thomas Cranmer s willingness to compromise helped him reach such a powerful position in the church so quickly. If Cranmer had gone about things the way Luther did, he would have easily been executed for heresy and defying the Law of Treason and Heresy by revolting against the king. By compromising some ... According to (Miller N.d), a study conducted by academics in 1995 at the University of North Texas showed that companies that practice CI typically outperformed those who do not in three critical areas: average sales, market share, and profitability. This further proves that CI practice /operations pays off and creates financial value to the company. This study further indicates that there is a positive relationship between CI and the financial performance of companies. Therefore CI contributes to the bottom line of the organisation. 4.Is CI a stigmatized practice? Investigating competitors and commercial espionage is certainly now not the same thing. This is how the stigma associated with CI practices came about, as people would perceive CI professionals as people that spy on other companies to obtain an advantage over them. Multiple times, the paper asserts that the be all, end all metric of value ought to be economic value, specifically the value derived from synergistic arrangements of real property. But viewing a situation through this lens dehumanizes the situation. It leads to situations where we can, with a straight face, describe human settlement as clutter to be disposed of. Indeed, alternative metrics of value exist which add nuance to the situation. Sentimental or cultural value, for example, may be entirely at odds with economic value. Martin Luther, a scholar and Augustian Friar, had also been influenced by the renaissance and humanism and had developed his own ideas about salvation, the treasury of merits and the issues taught by the Roman Catholic Church. His ideas were based upon the scriptures, sola scriptura, as these were the only things that were beyond fallibility, he believed that original texts should also be studied. Luther also believed that it was by man s own faith that he could achieve eternal salvation, sola fide, and that god alone decided a man s fate, therefore good deeds and the purchasing of indulgences and merits were worthless. Though there are numerous works recounting racial relations in America, the three assigned readings, To My Old Master, Sonny s Blues and Birmingham Sunday, give exceptional reflections of the 1860 s 1950 s and 1960 s America by notable African Americans. To My Old Master by Jourdon Anderson To My Old Master (Young, 1996, pp. 15 16) is chronologically the first of the three selected readings and is a letter written on August 7, 1865. Written 1 year after the author s emancipation and only 4 months after the end of the American Civil War, Anderson s letter is clearly the product of the struggle between North and South regarding slavery, the emancipation of slaves by the Emancipation Proclamation during the War, and the ability of former slaves to carve a successful niche for themselves as capable and newly free people who were finally given a chance to succeed. The author apparently received correspondence from his former slave owner requesting that Anderson return to Tennessee and work on his former owner s farm. Unfortunately for the Colonel, when Anderson received the Colonel s request, the former slave had already become emancipated, relocated to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Causes And Effects Of Violent Video Games Violent video games have always been a hot topic since the release of the first Mortal Kombat in October 1992 for home consoles, which, because of its violence, resulted in the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). There have been studies that show a correlation between violent video games and aggressionresulting in both an increase and decrease in aggression among players, but all if not most studies have only been short term experiments. The real question is whether violent video games cause an increase in short term aggression to the point where the players start to commit violent actions because of it, but, if the aggression does increase, how to prevent the short term aggression from increasing to the point where it becomes a problem without taking the games away. Almost every gamer who has played a multiplayer game with audio chat has either played with or against a person (usually a child) who, whenever they start to lose, they fly into an aggressive frenzy or tantrum, starting to do everything from cussing out other players, accusing them of being cheaters, and etc.. One should worry about people like this, who if possible might seek out the cheaters for vengeance, when it comes to possible related crimes, but realistically speaking there are very few people are capable of finding the person s actual name, unless said person does something stupid such as: using personal information for their username(most of the time when creating an online ... We are diurnal animals who are active during the daytime and asleep at night, other animals are nocturnal they are active at night but asleep during the day. The circadian rhythm depends on the interaction of physiological and psychological processes to be tuned into the sleep waking cycle so energy is provided when needed. As diurnal humans we have a fairly stable sleep pattern with the time we go to sleep and the time we wake up, this consistency suggests an internal mechanism controls sleep, endogenous pacemaker. However, this can be overridden by external factors, exogenous zeitgebers. The endogenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When using non humans there needs to be justification to inflict this kind of sacrifice, due to the number of rats that did die during this study is a major concern and as Stephan and Zucker s study was conducted in 1972 before the regulations were tightened, it is unlikely their study would be permitted today. To explain the control of biological rhythms by just referring to endogenous pacemakers such as the SCN is an example of biological reductionism. This is a limited approach as it is partial and does not take account of the interaction of endogenous pacemakers with exogenous zeitgeber. The psychologists assume that the damage to the SCN is the only causation of the disturbed sleep there is no consideration that the sleep waking cycle could be a more complex mechanism. The SCN is connected to the pineal gland which could be the underlying cause of the disturbed sleep, due to the damage of the SCN this connection may mean that melatonin is no longer secreted efficiently. This would suggest that the SCN is only a factor within a larger pathway. Michel Siffre however did take into account the interaction of endogenous pacemakers and exogenous zeitgebers. Siffer, a French geologist, spent six months in a cave with no natural light; his biological rhythms became free running in the absence of light. The cave was artificially lit and Siffre had a phone to the outside world to turn light on or off. He had no watch and ate and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
