The Iowa State Teaching Standards
The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an
effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how
the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one
standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain
how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student
teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being
my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods
(standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards
are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate
for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content
and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math
standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and
answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a
concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the
needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking

The Violation Of Miranda Rights
Mr. Knight s statements to officers in the patrol car cannot be suppressed for violation of Miranda
rights because he was neither in custody not subjected to an interrogation. To suppress a statement
under the Fifth Amendment for violation of Miranda rights, (1) the suspect must be in custody of law
enforcement officials and (2) subjected to interrogation (3) without being first provided Miranda
warnings. United States v. Brownlee, 454 F.3d 131, 4 (3d Cir. 2006) (citing Rhode Island v. Innis, 446
U.S. 291 (1980)). Here, the police officers that detained Mr. Knight are law enforcement officials;
however, Mr. Knight was not in custody because he was stopped for a short and temporary amount of
time, and the officers explicitly told him that he would be free to go after completing the traffic
summons paperwork. Additionally, Mr. Knight s incriminating statements during his detention were
not the product of an interrogation because they were voluntary and not reasonably foreseeable by
Officer Davis. Consequently, Mr. Knight did not require a Miranda warning, meaning his
incriminating statements in the patrol car cannot be suppressed under the Fifth Amendment.

What Is The Relationship Between Gawain And The Green Knight
Being one of the youngest Knights of the Round Table, Gawain still needs to fully immerse himself
into the culture of Knighthood. Throughout the course of the story, one element hinders Gawain from
achieving this goal: the Green Knight. The Green Knight, when he first walks into King Arthur s
court, portrays immense strength, admirable good looks, and sheer power. In a sense, this is the
individual that Gawain aspires to be. On the other hand, however, the Green Knight s smug nature
directly contrasts with a true knight s vow to be noble. While the Green Knight s physical appearance
invigorates a certain degree of envy within Gawain and the rest of the Knights of the Round Table, his
lack of nobility and virtue establishes the idea that

Because of that team member s low concern for people and cooperation he/or she may enjoy conflict
with the willingness to sacrifice her own relationships with others in order to win (Thomas Kilmann

demonstrated a personality of competition. She joined the group with a miss know it all attitude and
expected everyone to do things her way, with a lack of team effort. This type of team member may be
a great asset to the team for the sake of group to group competition but may cause confusion in the
team due to their wanting to defeat or win over others. . Collaboration which Kilmann s inventory
refers to as the (win win orientation) is the best style of conflict to articulate within a team. This

Sociological Perspectives Of Functionalism, Conflict...
Explain the three major sociological perspectives of functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic
interactionism. Identify which perspectives use a macro level or a micro level of analysis. Apply each
perspective to socialization.
Functionalism Macro Level This means that each person has a specific function and that each society
works together to achieve what is best. For example, my 2 boys attend a public school. The school is
funded by taxes I pay as well as neighbors who do not have any children attending school. Schooling
helps teach and socialize my children and will enable them to continue their education years later.
Conflict Theory Macro level This is built off of resources, status, and power that are not evenly

We decide how our peers come to a conclusion about us. For example, why do people I am intelligent
or why do people think that I am uneducated?
We take what people say about us to heart. Which in turn makes us question ourselves. For example, I
must be intelligent if others think so or I must be dumb if others think that I am uneducated.
Goofman s dramaturgical model of interaction is similar to Cooley s looking glass self in that we are
judged daily by our peers, that we care what others think of us and we try to modify ourselves so that
we are able to give a good impression and not a bad one. Impression management is 1 aspect of his
model. We try to give off a good impression to our peers. Basically, we are trying to show them our
best side. They are also similar as they both involve emotions
Goofmans dramaturgical model of interaction is different from Colleys looking glass self due to
Goffmans front and back stage. The front stage is where we are able to control what someone may see.
Whereas the back stage is where we are able to let our guard down. Cooley s concept is based on self
image where front stage and back stage is based on how we control that self image.
Identify and define the seven basic elements of nonmaterial culture.
Gestures are a way of communicating with others using our body. For example, we use our hands to
wave, which is another way of saying hello.
Language is the primary way of communicating with one

Ensuring that the software is compatible with the systems that are in place today is also a critical step
to making the transition smoother. The high score in the architecture compatibility area shows that this
provider took that into consideration as well. Provider1 was also able to customize the off the shelf
package to meet the requirements that Harley Davidson has developed when the best practices fell
short. Since the company had already established specific goals that they needed this software to
accomplish, looking at the overall functionality of the package is imperative. The qualitative areas that
addressed this issue were overall functionality, technical support offerings, and web functionality to
go. Provider1 and Provider2 scored as high as possible in these first two areas. However, Provider2
already caries a software solution for the web functionality .The reason that I feel Provider1 is still the
best option is because they understand that this will be a necessary component of Harley Davidson s
needs. They have developed a work around for this problem with a partner solution that will help them
meet all their needs. Since there is no perfect functional fit offered by the three final providers, the
ability to problem solve and develop solutions is a key factor to consider in the decision. Beyond the

Boutique Hotels
INTRODUCTION
Objective
The objective of this report is to analyze the boutique hotel industry in Sri Lanka and the trends of the
industry at present and the key issues likely to change the formation of the industry in the future.
Tourism in Sri Lanka has been booming since the war came to an end also the recovery of the global
recession also has led to an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country. Therefore the need
to cater to the foreigners has led to the growth in the emerging Boutique Hotel Industry. Demand for
these hotels is increasing also due to the increasing standards of living of the people in Sri Lanka and
also the country being officially declared as VISIT SRI LANKA in the year 2011 is also an added

Both the design and style of city boutique hotels are far different from the traditional resort boutique
hotels. Modernism, and the interpretation of the 21st Century at times matched with historical material
and art are known to be modern, and found in most city boutique hotels. Technology is an huge factor,
whether it is technology that enhances the ambience and makes emotional contact between the guests
and the hard attributes of the building (such as lighting and music), or technology that is provided for
the convenience of hotel guests (such as in room DVD players, flat screen television sets, cordless
phones, and computers with high speed Internet access and the latest monitor genres).Entertainment in
boutique hotels is an important part in creating a lively, chic and trendy mind set. However, in the
boutique hotel concept, entertainment is not limited to events such as live music and performances;
the idea of a boutique hotel is entertainment in its own nature: a hip restaurant, lounge, and bar; an
exceptional theme; and visually spectacular decorations.
Casa Colombo

Dinosaurs Are Awesome
If I had a time machine, I would want to go to a very famous time 67 million years ago. Although no
humans were living during that time, I still want to see how different earth was during that time so I
could confirm and add to the overall knowledge about the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous time period was
the last time period in which dinosaurs are seen. This time period spanned from 144 million years ago
(mya) to 66 mya; right after the Jurassic time period and before the Tertiary. This is a time when
dinosaurs were at their height with many thousands of different species known or yet to be identified.
Our earliest ancestors were small rodent like mammals that lived during this time and gradually
evolved into the many different types of mammals we see today. The dinosaurs though, would become
small reptiles such as the lizards we see today after one of the greatest known extinctions of all times
the K T Extinction also known as the extinction of the dinosaurs. In this time, I would see many giant
dinosaurs such as the T rex. These dinosaurs would be competing for their own survival and their
children s survival very roughly by killing other dinosaurs who get too close to their nests or them.
During this time, I would be wondering how did these giant creatures 30 feet tall die and have us puny
mammals take their place as the dominant species? I would then recount that thanks to a combination
of a massive asteroid hitting earth, mammals, deadly diseases, volcanoes, flowering

Evil And Innocence In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Evil is a word that is rooted in thoughts, and actions. The concept of evil is a convoluted force. In
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, morals are reexamined through each tale. Chaucer discusses moral
evil and its relevance to innocence, specifically in the Pardoner s Tale, with the three rakes, and in the
Prioress Tale, with the young boy. The seducing of innocence to become dishonorable is evil. All
things wicked start from innocence. Innocence is beautiful. The three rakes and the young boy
illustrate the most simplest form of innocence which reserves the revelation of evil. In the Pardoner s
Tale, the three rakes insist on discovering who smote the man s heart in two (Chaucer 355). The
murder, Death is dangerous and the rakes courageously took this opportunity to help themselves and
others from the danger. This demonstrates the rakes ability to want to improve other people s lives
while also showcasing the righteousness they contain. The murderer, Death, shall be slain and the
three men pledged their word of honor to live and die for the other,/ as though each were the other s
brother born (357). Chaucer demonstrates the virtue these men have for themselves and for each other.
Although, they drink too much they still embody supportive and honorable friends. The hope that
death shall be dead, if they catch him (357) depicts the beauty in their hopes and innocence. The
beauty of the widow s son, seven years of age, in the Prioress Tale, paints the unknown virtue during
the walk to and from school. The mother has always teaches her son to worship our blissful Lady,/
Christ s dear Mother, and he did not forget it (373). Chaucer proves that innocent children will always
learn quickly (373). The young child studies his book and he heard the Alma redemptoris being sung.
The young child innocent and interested, listened to the words and notes/ until he knew the first verse
all by heart (373). However, the innocent boy does not at all what this Latin meant,/since he was of so
young and tender an age (375). Chaucer makes known that this young boy is intelligent and innocent
as he listens to his mother and is curious for his age. The innocence in the rakes and the young boy is
beautiful and tender,

The Social Sciences And Humanities
There seems to be a stigma present in our society, that social sciences and humanities are not as hard
and require less work than science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM, majors. In
addition, women are still struggling to gain traction in STEM fields, and face gender bias quite
frequently, as seen in the fact that women are only paid 77 cents for every dollar made by a man. We
hypothesized that STEM majors would be rated as more academically competent than sociology
majors. We also hypothesized that male students would be rated as more academically competent than
female students. Finally, our combined hypothesis was that males would receive higher ratings of
academic competency, overall, regardless of major. There was a total of 263 participants in this
survey, 173 of them being female. Participants read paragraphs about either a sociology major named
James or Jane, or an engineering major named James or Jane, and then were asked to rate how much
they agreed with statements about the student, such as if the student was naturally smart. Participants
were also asked how many hours they expected the student to spend studying a week. We found that
the engineering students were rated higher for being naturally smart than the sociology students.
Additionally, we found that the engineering students were expected to study more hours than the
sociology students, and that a female undergraduate was expected to study more hours than a male
undergraduate. These results

Cost management through product design: target costing approach, Yasemin Zengin and Erhan Ada
In this paper, target costing tool combined with other management techniques, namely Quality
Function Deployment (QFD) and Value Engineering (VE), has been focused with a case study. In this
case study, QFD TC (Target Costing) methodology has been executed in a SME (Small and medium

Using the target costing module, the cost of a hydrostatic testing unit was calculated as E1.799,26.
With a mark up of 20%, the unit selling price of the Company totalled up approximately E2.160,00,
more than the price of the domestic producer.
Step 3: Target Costing
According to customer survey results, the selling price was calculated to be E1.803,75 per testing unit
and it was decided to set a market price for testing unit that was 7.5%, but which included a 20%
profit for the company.
Step 4: Cost breakdown on cost drivers and Step 5: target costing through product design.
After determining a target cost, according to customer feedbacks, company s different teams work
together to reduce cost to target cost. After considering QFD analysis and main cost drivers, the
production team listed the following additional components illustrated in Table 1.
The optimal product was designed by keeping the balance of the survival tripod. In Table 2, the items
and the costs of the new design are given. The new design of the product resulted in a total cost of
E1.490,29 per unit.
Step 6: Continuous improvement.
Regardless of whether a target cost is achieved, efforts for continuous improvement should be
provided to maintain the profitability and market position of the product.

Forbidden Love in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay
Don t you hate it when something doesn t turn out the way you wanted it to? When you care so deeply
about something and sacrifice so much just so that it can happen, but despite it all, ends in ruins. This
is the theme of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. In this tragic tale, two fated lovers risk everything,
even life itself, to be with one another. They go against family, friends and fate to be together. Had
premonitions in the play been taken more seriously by key characters, tragedy could have been
avoided. In the play we read of many warnings which, had they been heeded, would have saved the
lives of Romeo and Juliet. Warnings such as the Prologue and Romeo s first dream, From forth the

On, lusty gentlemen. [Act 1.5. 107 113] Despite the warning of death, Romeo tells fate, which he
believes to be controlling his life, to take over and guide his sails. Romeo and Juliet could have been
spared had the Prologue, and Romeo s first dream in the play, been seen as warnings. Many lives
could have been spared had the characters paid closer attention to Romeo s and Juliet s actions and
words. If key characters, such as Nurse and Frair Lawrence had paid closer attention to the events, and
comprehended the threat, Romeo and Juliet s death might not have been so premature. On the night of
first meeting Romeo, Juliet has already decided that she is in love with him and wants to be married,
Go ask his name. if he be married, my grave is like to my wedding bed... My love sprung from my

family s sworn enemies. If Nurse had stopped the progression of Juliet s love for Romeo at that point,
or if she had informed Lady and Lord Capulet soon after, Juliet and Romeo wouldn t have had a
chance to be together; also, Mercutio wouldn t have died because Romeo s love for Juleit wouldn t

Education Is The Key To Poetry Analysis
Education is the key to success
I have chosen the theme Education is the key to success . I feel that poetry is one of the best manners
to express the importance of education. I will elaborate using three poems namely, My parents kept

Spender and Blue Umbrellas by D. J. Enright.
The first poem I will analyze is My parents kept me away from children who were rough bye Stephan
Spender. This is a poem about a boy who was confronted by lower class boys whom his parents did
not like. His parents warned him to stay away from them. Although the boy was warned, the boy still
found himself admiring certain elements of the rough children s lives. But he was still afraid of their
bullying ways. In the first stanza My parents kept me away from children who were rough/ and threw

that the speaker attempted to make friend with them but the never smiled ; these rough children did

Levi Roots uses spoken language devices to persuade the dragons to invest in his product. He uses a
variety of spoken language techniques such as pausing, overlapping, turn taking and accent in order to

throughout the interview; this suggests that Levi root was successful in persuading the dragons. His

The Race Towards Independence Of The 1770 S
Cambria Beatty Linder
Dr. Scotti
History 201
2016. February 14
The Race Towards Independence In the 1770 s, Great Britain established a number of colonies in
North America. The Americans thought of themselves as citizens of Great Britain and subjects of King
George III. Over the span of ten years, Great Britain has experienced deterioration in their relationship
with the thirteen colonies. There were numerous factors that came into play in relation to the conflict
such as the Navigation Acts and Colonial Legislatures, which eventually led to the Revolutionary War
of April 1776. What started out as a minor conflict concluded with a war for Independence. It all
started when the British went to war with the French also known as the French and Indian War.
Following their victory in the French and Indian War in 1763, Great Britain took control of the French
holdings in North America, outside the Caribbean. The British sought to maintain peaceful relations
with those Indian tribes that had allied with the French, and keep them separated from the American
frontiersmen. To this end, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted settlement west of the
Appalachian Mountains as this was designated an Indian Reserve. Disregarding the proclamation,
some groups of settlers continued to move west and establish farms. The proclamation was soon
modified and was no longer a hindrance to settlement, but the fact that it had been promulgated
without their prior consultation angered the colonists

As a person who has now lived in San Diego for over 22 years and a Latino, it is impossible not to see

The Poems Of John Keats
Although John Keats didn t live a very long life, he still left a pretty good size mark on literature. This
thought only intrigues many writers and readers to wonder what he could have possibly accomplished
had he not died at such a young age and been able to continue writing. He was born into the working
class and very early in his life developed a reputation for fighting, and it was not until he met one of
his close friends that he became interested in poetry. The other two writers in this section, Byron and
Shelley, were both aristocrats. Clearly Keats was not and Aristocrat considering he was born into the
working class. Even though Keats didn t live a very long life he still encountered many ups and downs
in his early years that led him to write some of the poems that he did. The four poems that we read
from John Keats collection would be On First Looking into Chapman s Homer, When I Have Fears
That I May Cease to Be, Ode to a Nightingale, and Ode on a Grecian Urn. One message from each of
those poems would be ambition, death, mortality, and fame. To begin with, one message from the
poem On First Looking into Chapman s Homer would be ambition. John Keats shows his ambition
and eager in this poem by showing how badly he wanted to become a well known poet. He speaks of
how many ancient literatures that he has read and how he thinks he could be remembered as one of the
best poets to ever live. Much have I traveled in the realms of gold, and many goodly states and

Compassion Fatigue: Caring for the Caregiver Introduction
Compassion represents an acknowledgement of another s suffering and is accompanied by the
expression of a desire to ease or end that suffering. (Van der Cingal, 2009, p. 124) This is a
fundamental characteristic usually found in health care workers and nurses especially. In one twelve
hour shift, a nurse s job can change from taking vitals and administering medications to performing
life saving measures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physical rest, nutrition and exercise are some of these needs and if denied, the body will eventually
become too exhausted to function properly. The most common symptoms of this are fatigue not
relieved with sleep, insomnia and irritability. If left untreated, physical exhaustion can lead to physical
ailments such as dizziness, colds, headaches, chronic pain, and digestive problems and even impaired
functioning of other body systems. (Espeland, 2006, p. 180) Emotional Exhaustion
Similar to physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion results from depletion of emotional resources
and failure to restore one s own emotional equilibrium. (Moore, 2009, p. 1) In today s busy society the
demands of life, job and family can be excessive and overwhelming. Combine these demands with the
additional stressors of caring for another person or persons, increased demands of productivity with
decreased personnel and the unrealistic expectations of one s self or others and place all of this burden
on one person, this would adequately describe the 21st century nurse. Nurses are continually engaged
in emotional relationships with patients and their families which call upon the nurse to be in a constant
supporting role. One reaches emotional exhaustion when this burden becomes too heavy to carry

Short-Term Memory Experience
The class was asked to do experiments on five different people who I know. We were asked to test
their short term memory. I thought it would be easy for my subjects to remember just 10 words. I
wanted to see if age or education can change their short term memory outcome. On TV, there is a
reality game show Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader , well my son is in the fifth grade. We sat at the
kitchen table, I read aloud the words that were on the high value list. Then I asked him to write the
words that he could remember me saying. Then an hour later, I did the next set of 10 words from the
medium value list, then the low value list of words an hour or so after. With my husband, I did the
same thing has I did with my son. We sat at the table ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I asked a friend of mine that has a master s in education and is a principal of a middle school if she
could help with this experiment. I wanted to see if having a lot of education would be different than
not having it. We couldn t get together in person, but we did do it over Skype. I wanted to make sure
that I could watch her and see how she reacted on the 3 sets of words. The first and second set of
words we did within an hour and ½ of each other. The last set of words we couldn t do till the
following day. With my mom, we had to spread it out within two days. She came to my house on the
first day and I read the first and second set of words within 45 minutes of each other. The last set of
words, I went to her house thinking that maybe being at a different place more comfortable for her,
would change the outcome. The last person I tested is a very close friend of mine. I invited him over
for dinner without him knowing that he was a guinea pig in my experiment. I asked him to remember
the first set of words and to write down all the words that he could remember before dinner. Then I
read aloud the second set of words after dinner. Thinking that maybe having a full belly would change

Lean Journey at C1
The case narrative was developed from recorded interviews with C1 executives, on site observations,
review of company literature, presentations and website information. Eight operations and three
human resource (HR) executives were interviewed at C1. Although data collection initially began at
C1, obtaining access to HR executives proved more difficult. The interviews were completed over a
one year period at the company, by which time three new companies had been recruited and data
collected for research. While HR interviews encompassed both corporate and unit executives located

Symbol of Being in Patricia Jabbeth Wesley´s There´s...
In There s Nothing You Can Do , by Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, Patricia exposes the many aspects of life
that cannot be changed. Through the poem, she shows a realization of something that most do not ever
understand or even grasp. She notes, through different scenarios, that life will happen no matter what,
and she must adapt to anything life throws her way. Wesley tells about chilling situations, troubled
children, quarrels of parenting, inescapable aging, unavoidable nationality, and the surety that she
cannot change life. She writes about her take on living through how people have a different symbol of
their being, a different picture of what life looks like, and approach life with a different tone. Humans
do not have a choice in the matter of which race or gender they occupy, but are politically
distinguished through political opinions. Through
There s Nothing You Can Do , Patricia Jabbeh Wesley finds that the absoluteness of life is an
inevitable as breath.
Almost all writing is political. It can even come in the form of everyday situations that are dealt with
by human nature. Power structure, the ranking of classes, rights, and racial, gender, or ethnic groups
are all examples of political aspects of life. In There s
Nothing You Can Do , Wesley first talks about being on a plane during a thunderstorm.
She expresses her panic by saying Nothing, to quell that old fear of crashing. / Nothing about the first

What Is The Theme Of Mrs Frisby
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a story about a group of animals on a farm who do everything in
their power to salvage their home. Mrs. Frisby is the head of the farm who everyone turns too because
she is so kind and loving. Lately, it hasn t been easy for Mrs., Frisby because she has been caring for
her very sick son. In efforts to help him get better, she seeks out Mr., Agnes, a wise mouse, for some
medicine that will work its magic on her son Timothy. Although things begin looking up for Timothy s

This storyline was all based around moving Mrs. Frisby home to safety in order to steer clear of
plowing season. Throughout the story, we are able to witness Mrs. Frisby go to extreme lengths to
save her home and keep her family happy. Although it is not an easy process, Mrs. Frisby never gave
up. Her home was her safety net and the place where her family could all be together. Mrs. Frisby and
her children were especially lucky to even have a house. Although it was a slightly damaged cinder
block, the hollow kind with two ovals through it, but it was the place they called home and they would
make it work no matter what the season (pg. 38). There was no way she was going to let it all be
destroyed by the farmers. Instead of relocating, she travels all over to find a way to solve her problem,
which, in the end, is accomplished. In comparison to the impact Mrs. Frisby s home has on her life,
the rats of NIMH don t really have a set home. They are not dependent on one certain place, which is
why they come up with a plan to re locate when they find out the rosebush is going to be torn down.
To them, home is wherever they can live independently or create a place for themselves. At this stage
in their life, they are more focused on trying to be independent enough so they don t have to depend
on anyone for anything. They are highly trained to live and work in any condition. Unlike Mrs. Frisby,

Raising Drinking Or The Sale Of Alcohol
Organized efforts to control and limit drinking or the sale of alcohol have been persistent in the United
States since the early nineteenth century. For many years, before any public demonstration was made
against the liquor traffic, and for some years after, distilleries by many people were deemed a blessing
to the community. They provided a ready market for any surplus grain that was raised. The business
was considered respectable; and members of churches, and even deacons engaged in it without any
detriment to their moral character or standing in society. But, after a few years of temperance work, it
dawned upon the minds of some that these distilleries were a source of evil rather than good, for they
were sowing the seeds of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In America, it is a rite of passage to turn 21, and be legally allowed to consume and purchase alcohol.
It has been established beyond question that a majority of American adults, even teenagers for that
matter, drink alcoholic beverages at least upon occasion. Alcohol s meanings change as individuals go
through different stages of life, as societies norms about alcohol can change accordingly. Alcohol s
meanings change as individuals go through different stages of life, as societies norms about alcohol
can change accordingly. Drinking can be a sign of rebellion or independence during adolescence.
Moreover, in many societies it is inappropriate for elderly to engage in intoxicated partying that might
be more accepted among the young. However, as individuals in industrialized countries like America
live longer and healthier lives, these contradictory cultural views about the respectability of drinking
may need to be re examined from a historical lens. More specific elements of America s drinking
culture are examined within the intellectual history paradigm, yet the discussion is mostly of historical
contributions. On a personal level, alcohol has cultivated bonds of friendship and community based on

Panax Notoginseng Research Papers
Growing up as an Asian American, height has been a topic that arose amongst the conversations. In
Chinese culture, parents often like to showcase their kids and like to brag about their
accomplishments, their goals and their physical appearance. With that in mind, families including
mine took height as an obstacle that would make my family proud. Puberty affected my body around
the end of my elementary school. I specially remember when I was in Taiwan and was on my way to
my friend s house, when my mom gave me a dark, oily brown colored soup put in a water bottle. My
mom told me to drink it on the way to his house and the taste was so bad that I almost fainted that
night. The soup was composed of a Chinese herb prescribed for growth enhancement. This Chinese
herb that was prescribed was known as Panax Notoginseng, also known as Tienchi Ginseng and my
mom believed that this soup increased height. Eventually I started to believe that plants had the ability
to increase body growth such as my height. However, after looking up many resources, I found that
Panax Notoginseng had many different effects that promoted health but didn t necessarily increase
height.
After several hours of research, many of those hours, including frustration at the failure to a ... Show

The Impact Of Consciousness On Modern Day Psychology
The study of consciousness in modern day psychology is becoming increasingly difficult to explain. In
the early days of consciousness studies it may have been explained as our experience or awareness
(Blackmore, 2010). However, over a number of years, there have been many psychologists who have
contributed many important theories towards the explanation of how consciousness works, and its
initial existence. As Chalmers states: There is nothing that we know more intimately than conscious
experience, but there is nothing harder to explain (Chalmers, 1995 p.200). Being one of the leading
philosophers in consciousness, David Chalmers introduced the idea of the Hard Problem in 1994.
Chalmers defined the hard problem as: The questions of how physical processes in the brain give rise
to subjective experience (Chalmers, 1995 p.63). Chalmers suggested that he found it difficult to
understand how a small mass of grey matter such as the brain could produce conscious experience.
These ideas of a hard problem in consciousness were rejected by a number of theorists, which will be
discussed later in the essay. Another idea which Chalmers has put forward is the zombie. A zombie,
according to Chalmers is a being identical to you and I, speaks like you, acts like you, but is not
conscious (Blackmore, 2010). A zombie contains no qualia (a physical conscious experience). The
idea of the zombie put forward by Chalmers is extremely important in the explanation of
consciousness and has been

Police Atrocities In The United States
Starting in the mid 1800s, there was a blast of metropolitan police offices in the United States. These
early police divisions were composed around the area or ward based political frameworks that
commanded this period. It was the nearby neighborhood government official who gave initiative and
oversight over a significantly decentralized arrangement of policing. Work choices inside police
departments were made at the ward level, and occupations were allowed in light of an arrangement of
political support. This framework compensated residents with police work in return for their reliability
to the nearby ward government official who gave them the employment.
The confined idea of policing amid this period had exceptionally significant outcomes ... Show more

Two of the more critical issues amid this period were (1) the inclusion of police in defilement and (2)
constrained oversight and supervision of watch officers. Amid this period, police inclusion in
debasement went up against various distinctive structures. Initially, on account of their cozy
association with groups, officers were defenseless to contribution in criminal action or the
acknowledgment of rewards as a byproduct of the nonenforcement of laws. The later piece of the
political time matched with Prohibition and made open doors for officers to pick up fiscally by
securing illicit drinking foundations or speakeasies. An arrangement of political support and the
nearby association officers needed to neighborhood ward legislators likewise made them exceptionally
defenseless against political debasement. Since they gave oversight at neighborhood surveying areas,
it was normal for officers to have undue impact over open voting choices or in a few cases to
deliberately fix decisions. The issue of defilement was confounded by the constrained types of
administrative oversight and supervision of watch officers. Not at all like the verifiable periods that
would take after, the accessibility of innovations to screen and track the area and exercises of officers
was constrained to nonexistent amid this time. Watch officers were managed extensive watchfulness
in their day by day exercises, and there was restricted inspiration to regulate and rebuff them for
wrongdoing given the complicity of administrators in political defilement too. The wastefulness and
disruption that came about contained an immediate target and force for the following authentic period,
the change/proficient

A Master Of The Rubik s Cube
If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child s toy collection, it is more likely that a
Rubik s Cube would be chosen than any other toy. In other words, the Hungarian originated cube is
the best selling toy in history ( The History of the Rubik s Cube. ), so the actuality that I became
infatuated with the gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage in my life to be the
most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik s cube. My goal, as well as
the toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not for a man named Ernő Rubik. The
Rubik s Cube credited inventor was born in 1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the Budapest
University of Technology and Economics, and studied to become an educator, and also studied
architecture. It is noted that Rubik was always looking for new, more exciting ways to present
information. It was 30 years after his birth that he began experimenting with this goal and accidentally
created the impossible; a solid cube (originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart if twisted or
turned. Rubik added colorful stickers. It took him well over a month to generate a solution that would
solve the puzzle every time, and less than a year later, he patented the cube, and gave it its original
name, the Magic Cube . Fast forward twenty four months later, and the toy was first sold in a
Budapest toyshop. ( The History of the Rubik s Cube. ) The cube caught the eye of Tom Kremer.

outstanding figures of the Civil War. His war tactics, leadership, and success in battle cemented him as
one of the most significant generals of early American history. Thomas was born on January 21, 1824,
in Clarksburg, Virginia. Throughout his life he faced much adversity especially within his family with
his older sister and father passing when he was of young age. In his late teens (1842) he enrolled at the

according to a colleague his troops stood against the Union forces like a stone wall . General Barnard

tactics in battle, the way he took leadership of his troops and the task at hand, and his success in battle

Motivation is the driving force behind all actions and reactions. It is the central influence behind
decisions made by the characters. It causes a dilemma that invokes an action which eventually leads to
the tragically ironic conclusions. As suggested in Sinclair Ross s The Painted Door , individuals are
affected through harsh situations that they come in contact with, and in order to move on they must
use these experiences as motivation for future decisions. What holds a relationship together? In the
short story The Painted Door , Sinclair Ross represents the importance of communication which is the

  • 2. The Iowa State Teaching Standards The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods (standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Violation Of Miranda Rights Mr. Knight s statements to officers in the patrol car cannot be suppressed for violation of Miranda rights because he was neither in custody not subjected to an interrogation. To suppress a statement under the Fifth Amendment for violation of Miranda rights, (1) the suspect must be in custody of law enforcement officials and (2) subjected to interrogation (3) without being first provided Miranda warnings. United States v. Brownlee, 454 F.3d 131, 4 (3d Cir. 2006) (citing Rhode Island v. Innis, 446 U.S. 291 (1980)). Here, the police officers that detained Mr. Knight are law enforcement officials; however, Mr. Knight was not in custody because he was stopped for a short and temporary amount of time, and the officers explicitly told him that he would be free to go after completing the traffic summons paperwork. Additionally, Mr. Knight s incriminating statements during his detention were not the product of an interrogation because they were voluntary and not reasonably foreseeable by Officer Davis. Consequently, Mr. Knight did not require a Miranda warning, meaning his incriminating statements in the patrol car cannot be suppressed under the Fifth Amendment. A. Mr. Knight was not in custody Mr. Knight was not in custody because he knew he could leave after he completed the traffic summons paperwork. Throughout the course of the story, one element hinders Gawain from achieving this goal: the Green Knight. The Green Knight, when he first walks into King Arthur s court, portrays immense strength, admirable good looks, and sheer power. In a sense, this is the individual that Gawain aspires to be. On the other hand, however, the Green Knight s smug nature directly contrasts with a true knight s vow to be noble. While the Green Knight s physical appearance invigorates a certain degree of envy within Gawain and the rest of the Knights of the Round Table, his lack of nobility and virtue establishes the idea that ... Based on the team s previous conflict scenario, the new group member who was added demonstrated a personality of competition. She joined the group with a miss know it all attitude and expected everyone to do things her way, with a lack of team effort. This type of team member may be a great asset to the team for the sake of group to group competition but may cause confusion in the team due to their wanting to defeat or win over others. . Collaboration which Kilmann s inventory refers to as the (win win orientation) is the best style of conflict to articulate within a team. • 8. Sociological Perspectives Of Functionalism, Conflict... Explain the three major sociological perspectives of functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Identify which perspectives use a macro level or a micro level of analysis. Apply each perspective to socialization. Functionalism Macro Level This means that each person has a specific function and that each society works together to achieve what is best. For example, my 2 boys attend a public school. The school is funded by taxes I pay as well as neighbors who do not have any children attending school. Schooling helps teach and socialize my children and will enable them to continue their education years later. We decide how our peers come to a conclusion about us. For example, why do people I am intelligent or why do people think that I am uneducated? We take what people say about us to heart. Which in turn makes us question ourselves. For example, I must be intelligent if others think so or I must be dumb if others think that I am uneducated. Goofman s dramaturgical model of interaction is similar to Cooley s looking glass self in that we are judged daily by our peers, that we care what others think of us and we try to modify ourselves so that we are able to give a good impression and not a bad one. Impression management is 1 aspect of his model. We try to give off a good impression to our peers. Basically, we are trying to show them our best side. They have experienced great success recently with growing numbers in their percentage of motorcycles shipped, up 14 percent from 1997, and their target market size, up 13.8 percent from 1997. The high score in the architecture compatibility area shows that this provider took that into consideration as well. Provider1 was also able to customize the off the shelf package to meet the requirements that Harley Davidson has developed when the best practices fell short. Since the company had already established specific goals that they needed this software to accomplish, looking at the overall functionality of the package is imperative. The qualitative areas that addressed this issue were overall functionality, technical support offerings, and web functionality to go. Provider1 and Provider2 scored as high as possible in these first two areas. However, Provider2 already caries a software solution for the web functionality .The reason that I feel Provider1 is still the best option is because they understand that this will be a necessary component of Harley Davidson s needs. They have developed a work around for this problem with a partner solution that will help them meet all their needs. Since there is no perfect functional fit offered by the three final providers, the ability to problem solve and develop solutions is a key factor to consider in the decision. Modernism, and the interpretation of the 21st Century at times matched with historical material and art are known to be modern, and found in most city boutique hotels. Technology is an huge factor, whether it is technology that enhances the ambience and makes emotional contact between the guests and the hard attributes of the building (such as lighting and music), or technology that is provided for the convenience of hotel guests (such as in room DVD players, flat screen television sets, cordless phones, and computers with high speed Internet access and the latest monitor genres).Entertainment in boutique hotels is an important part in creating a lively, chic and trendy mind set. • 12. Dinosaurs Are Awesome If I had a time machine, I would want to go to a very famous time 67 million years ago. Although no humans were living during that time, I still want to see how different earth was during that time so I could confirm and add to the overall knowledge about the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous time period was the last time period in which dinosaurs are seen. This time period spanned from 144 million years ago (mya) to 66 mya; right after the Jurassic time period and before the Tertiary. This is a time when dinosaurs were at their height with many thousands of different species known or yet to be identified. Our earliest ancestors were small rodent like mammals that lived during this time and gradually evolved into the many different types of mammals we see today. The dinosaurs though, would become small reptiles such as the lizards we see today after one of the greatest known extinctions of all times the K T Extinction also known as the extinction of the dinosaurs. In this time, I would see many giant dinosaurs such as the T rex. These dinosaurs would be competing for their own survival and their children s survival very roughly by killing other dinosaurs who get too close to their nests or them. During this time, I would be wondering how did these giant creatures 30 feet tall die and have us puny mammals take their place as the dominant species? I would then recount that thanks to a combination of a massive asteroid hitting earth, mammals, deadly diseases, volcanoes, flowering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Evil And Innocence In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Evil is a word that is rooted in thoughts, and actions. The concept of evil is a convoluted force. In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, morals are reexamined through each tale. Chaucer discusses moral evil and its relevance to innocence, specifically in the Pardoner s Tale, with the three rakes, and in the Prioress Tale, with the young boy. The seducing of innocence to become dishonorable is evil. All things wicked start from innocence. Innocence is beautiful. The three rakes and the young boy illustrate the most simplest form of innocence which reserves the revelation of evil. In the Pardoner s Tale, the three rakes insist on discovering who smote the man s heart in two (Chaucer 355). The murder, Death is dangerous and the rakes courageously took this opportunity to help themselves and others from the danger. This demonstrates the rakes ability to want to improve other people s lives while also showcasing the righteousness they contain. The murderer, Death, shall be slain and the three men pledged their word of honor to live and die for the other,/ as though each were the other s brother born (357). Chaucer demonstrates the virtue these men have for themselves and for each other. Although, they drink too much they still embody supportive and honorable friends. The hope that death shall be dead, if they catch him (357) depicts the beauty in their hopes and innocence. The beauty of the widow s son, seven years of age, in the Prioress Tale, paints the unknown virtue during the walk to and from school. The mother has always teaches her son to worship our blissful Lady,/ Christ s dear Mother, and he did not forget it (373). Chaucer proves that innocent children will always learn quickly (373). The young child studies his book and he heard the Alma redemptoris being sung. The young child innocent and interested, listened to the words and notes/ until he knew the first verse all by heart (373). However, the innocent boy does not at all what this Latin meant,/since he was of so young and tender an age (375). Chaucer makes known that this young boy is intelligent and innocent as he listens to his mother and is curious for his age. The innocence in the rakes and the young boy is beautiful and tender, ... • 14. The Social Sciences And Humanities There seems to be a stigma present in our society, that social sciences and humanities are not as hard and require less work than science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM, majors. In addition, women are still struggling to gain traction in STEM fields, and face gender bias quite frequently, as seen in the fact that women are only paid 77 cents for every dollar made by a man. We hypothesized that STEM majors would be rated as more academically competent than sociology majors. We also hypothesized that male students would be rated as more academically competent than female students. Finally, our combined hypothesis was that males would receive higher ratings of academic competency, overall, regardless of major. There was a total of 263 participants in this survey, 173 of them being female. Participants read paragraphs about either a sociology major named James or Jane, or an engineering major named James or Jane, and then were asked to rate how much they agreed with statements about the student, such as if the student was naturally smart. Participants were also asked how many hours they expected the student to spend studying a week. We found that the engineering students were rated higher for being naturally smart than the sociology students. Additionally, we found that the engineering students were expected to study more hours than the sociology students, and that a female undergraduate was expected to study more hours than a male undergraduate. When you care so deeply about something and sacrifice so much just so that it can happen, but despite it all, ends in ruins. This is the theme of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. In this tragic tale, two fated lovers risk everything, even life itself, to be with one another. They go against family, friends and fate to be together. February 14 The Race Towards Independence In the 1770 s, Great Britain established a number of colonies in North America. The Americans thought of themselves as citizens of Great Britain and subjects of King George III. Over the span of ten years, Great Britain has experienced deterioration in their relationship with the thirteen colonies. There were numerous factors that came into play in relation to the conflict such as the Navigation Acts and Colonial Legislatures, which eventually led to the Revolutionary War of April 1776. What started out as a minor conflict concluded with a war for Independence. It all started when the British went to war with the French also known as the French and Indian War. Following their victory in the French and Indian War in 1763, Great Britain took control of the French holdings in North America, outside the Caribbean. The British sought to maintain peaceful relations with those Indian tribes that had allied with the French, and keep them separated from the American frontiersmen. To this end, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains as this was designated an Indian Reserve. Disregarding the proclamation, some groups of settlers continued to move west and establish farms. The proclamation was soon modified and was no longer a hindrance to settlement, but the fact that it had been promulgated without their prior consultation angered the colonists ... • 30. The Impact Of Consciousness On Modern Day Psychology The study of consciousness in modern day psychology is becoming increasingly difficult to explain. In the early days of consciousness studies it may have been explained as our experience or awareness (Blackmore, 2010). However, over a number of years, there have been many psychologists who have contributed many important theories towards the explanation of how consciousness works, and its initial existence. As Chalmers states: There is nothing that we know more intimately than conscious experience, but there is nothing harder to explain (Chalmers, 1995 p.200). Being one of the leading philosophers in consciousness, David Chalmers introduced the idea of the Hard Problem in 1994. Chalmers defined the hard problem as: The questions of how physical processes in the brain give rise to subjective experience (Chalmers, 1995 p.63). Chalmers suggested that he found it difficult to understand how a small mass of grey matter such as the brain could produce conscious experience. These ideas of a hard problem in consciousness were rejected by a number of theorists, which will be discussed later in the essay. Another idea which Chalmers has put forward is the zombie. A zombie, according to Chalmers is a being identical to you and I, speaks like you, acts like you, but is not conscious (Blackmore, 2010). Two of the more critical issues amid this period were (1) the inclusion of police in defilement and (2) constrained oversight and supervision of watch officers. Amid this period, police inclusion in debasement went up against various distinctive structures. The later piece of the political time matched with Prohibition and made open doors for officers to pick up fiscally by securing illicit drinking foundations or speakeasies. An arrangement of political support and the nearby association officers needed to neighborhood ward legislators likewise made them exceptionally defenseless against political debasement. Since they gave oversight at neighborhood surveying areas, it was normal for officers to have undue impact over open voting choices or in a few cases to deliberately fix decisions.
