Roman Architecture Essay
When one thinks of Roman architecture, many things come to mind, such as arches, columns, statues,
and richly covered surfaces in marbles. One must stop to think that this empire, which gained power
and influence in the first century BC, must have been influenced from the thousands of years of
cultures preceding them in order to create their masterpieces of ingenuity. This phenomenon can be
seen in our borrowing of ideas of ancient Greece and Rome for the construction of our capitol
buildings in the United States. The Romans surely considered design principles of other cultures when
developing their buildings, since daily conquests of new lands opened Roman soldiers eyes to
innovations from the great vastness of their empire. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing so, he managed to design the most captivating section of his estate, the Great Canopus and
Serapeum, which have roots in ancient architecture, while also displaying Hadrian s own capability to
produce innovative designs through many different elements of their construction.
Ancient Egypt, which lasted as a powerful empire from 3150 to 30 BC, left a huge legacy on the
world of construction and architecture. Although their architecture revolved around veneration of the
dead, it served as inspiration to many Greek buildings and as a key source for Hadrian s Canopus
design. Through his travels to Alexandria, Egypt, Hadrian was inspired for the overall design of the
estate by attempting to recreate an Alexandrian garden with sacred landscapes, as seen through the
Villa s structures conforming to the terrain. Unfortunately, in the 16th century AD, these example of
an Alexandrian garden, created through the use of statuary and fountains were removed from Hadrian
s villa and re used in order to create a Renaissance garden based upon Roman ideals of gardening. The
large lake in the center of the Canopus is representative of a branch of the Nile River that connects
Alexandria to the Egyptian city of Canopus on the Nile Delta, for which this section of his villa was
named after. The city of Canopus was long revered for its great nocturnal celebrations for which
Hadrian wanted to recreate through

The Death Of The Lighthouse
Edward Teddy Daniels, a U.S. Marshal in 1954 is heading to Shutter Island a remote island accessible
only by boat, home to Ashecliffe, a secure psychiatric facility with his newly assigned partner Chuck,
to search for a missing patient. As Teddy looks more into the disappearance of the patient, strange
things begin to happen all around him. After his partner s disappearance, he then comes across a
former doctor living in a cave on the side of the island, who tells Teddy that the doctors are
performing experimental surgery in the island s lighthouse. This causes Teddy to take precarious
measures to investigate the lighthouse. Upon reaching the lighthouse, Teddy is met by the lead
psychiatrist and his missing partner, and is told that this was an elaborate role play, and that he
suffered from mental illness following the death of his children and him murdering his own wife.
Teddy comes back to reality as Andrew Laeddis and decides he cannot live with his reality. Andrew
Laeddis (Edward Teddy Daniels) was a middle aged, Caucasian man, who had a wife and three
children before they were murdered. Laeddis was formerly part of the liberation of the Dachau
concentration camp as a soldier in the United States military, then became a U.S. Marshal after the
war had ended. Edward Daniels is an anagram for Andrew Laeddis, which is Teddy s real identity,
which he learns when he has a moment of clarity. He had been admitted to the secure psychiatric
hospital on Shutter Island

Relationships In The Endurance
The Endurance is about the struggle of 28 men who journey through the Antarctic. Shackleton was
able to recruit men to sail on the Endurance to the Antarctic and cross by foot. The men were ready for
adventure and excited to begin the journey with haste, not realizing that they were going to encounter
the struggles of survival. Some of the many ways that they were able to overcome adversity was by
strong relationships, purpose, and cheerfulness.
Having a strong relationship with piers is essential for the times of crisis in times of survival. During
the long polar nights, the crew on board the Belgica suffered from insanity and many lost their lives
due to it. The crew members that were on the Endurance had the reverse effect. They had the desire to
get to know each other even though their characters were contrasting, and they began to draw closer to
each other by talking and sharing experiences. On the Belgica, there was no relationship between the
men, and even one man feared that the men wanted to kill him. The crew members of the Endurance
valued relationship and were able to survive the polar nights. Even in the Bible, God gave Adam a
wife because He knew that it was better for Adam. In Genesis 2:18 it says, And the Lord God said, It
is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. God created Eve to
be with Adam. God knew that it was better for Adam to have a companion/relationship with Eve. In
the same sense, the crew members

It deals with the broad study of historical pagan practices prior to the Christianization of the people. It

It is used in this project for definitive evidence of transformation rituals, which are akin to the

Mary Wigman
Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should
incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they
had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which
was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and
mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two
different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as
represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that
were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... Show more content on

She was down rooted to the earth; dark images, death, witches, and war inspired her. She used heavy
and tense percussion or silence. A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances
looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed.
One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque
play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever
increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and
grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman
s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart
and Armitage 13 14). Once you go in deeper into why Wigmans pieces are so different compared to
Duncan you start looking at the bigger picture of how Germany was doing at the time, with the whole
World War I (1914 1918) and the beginning of Hitler s upraise in the 1930 s leading to World War II
(1939 1945) this was all during the time frame of Wigmans life. Knowing that these two important
figures both created dances and created a new thing at the time called modern makes them quite
extraordinary, because they both loved modern dancing, they both created a living off of it, yet they
were in different parts

Definition Of Frames
A frame is a set of contexts and perspectives that defines how an individual perceives and responds to
facts, events or people. Frames are intellectual stereotypes that make the interpretation of the world
around us easy by filtering out details that we believe or have found in the past to be insignificant.
This simplification sometimes has its own problems that can in turn be addressed by reframing. The
deliberate and conscious management, reformation and refinement of frames that aims to address and
minimize the conflict between how things are and how one perceives it, is called reframing.
Reframing, essentially, is a process of analyzing, reshaping and improving frames so that the reflective
practitioners may be able to better understand

The Trafficking Of Human Trafficking Essay
In this essay, the history of human trafficking will be examined, followed by who is affected by
trafficking. Next the scope and types of exploitation will be discussed. Human trafficking is an issue
that affects countries all over the world. Governments have made an effort to curb trafficking,
however these efforts have been very narrowly focused. American ignorance has led to poor handling
of the issues by policy makers. Finally the essay will discuss a proposed solution and set some goals
for society to work on in the future.
When examining the traditional definition of slavery, it focuses on one human being taking ownership
of another. Traditionally slaves were transported by lengthy sea voyages. However, with
advancements in transportation human trafficking victims can be quickly and easily moved around the
world (Kara 67). According to Robert Uy, Trafficking, prostitution, and slavery have existed since the
beginning of civilization and, while at times have been prohibited, have continued to exist (215).
Slaves can be exploited virtually forever with a form of slavery known as bonded labor, which has
existed for centuries. Individuals involved in this type of slavery are often loaned money with the
agreement to work of the debt; unfortunately, the pay is so low the debt is almost never repaid (Kara
67). Despite legislative efforts to pass effective anti trafficking and anti forced labor laws, the
overwhelming focus has been on preventing sex trafficking. This coupled

Persuasive Essay On Hockey Jerseys
You may think that if you want to have your own NHL jersey to wear to games, sports bars, and

That just isn t the case. You can now find good NHL jerseys cheap for sale on line.
When the National Hockey League was established in 1917, from the ruins of the National Hockey
Association, the players wore regular sweaters with numbers sewn or pinned to the back. The sweaters
were not specially made, just purchased from a men s clothing store.
Each team, of course, wore a different color. These early NHL jerseys were frequently striped, in a

By the 1970s, all kinds of experiments were being made with the whole hockey uniform. In this
decade, the concept of all teams in a city wearing the same colors started to take hold.
When you are shopping for NHL jerseys, for yourself or to give as gifts, you should look at the variety
of cheap jerseys that you can find on the internet. They are able to be made to a high standard for less
money when they are made in China. Jerseys from China have all the same details that the real players
jerseys do, like stitched on logos and patches. They use quality fabrics so they are durable. They don t
require any special cleaning like expensive jerseys can. They look just as good, but cost you less
money.
In 1995, the principle of the third jersey really took off. They are called third jerseys because they are
neither the regular home or away jerseys, but have a different style or design. Many of them are retro
or vintage designs from the team s past. Others have been designed to be worn on holidays or for other
commemorative purposes. You can find all the best third designs in the online shops that are selling

Perez. He grew up on his father s cattle ranch with his two younger sisters, Amida and Bernarda, and

Guzman dropped out of the third grade to work for his father, this was due to the fact that the nearest
school was 60 miles away and the family could not afford to commute. With little education and few
opportunities for employment in his hometown, he became to help cultivate opium for his father. His

Quality of Work Life Ethics and QWL are two interlinked work environment factors in enterprises.
QWL is the perceptions to which the business meets the full scale of employees needs for their well
being at work. The QWL are of two categories, lower order and higher order. Fig 1. depicts the
conceptual model of the QWL. This is very essential for continuous attraction of human resource and
also to retain the current work force. Regardless, many of the employees are experiencing
dissatisfaction towards work and the work place. Loss of interest, drop in production, low employee

Melanie Klein, The Mother Of Object Relations
She is a drive theorist who influenced child psychology and is known as the mother of Object
Relations. Melanie Klein believed that drives are object seeking, relational in their essence and not
just meant for resolutions of tensions as Freud suggested.
Klein postulated that internal object formation is integral to the psychic life of the infant and is based
on powerful struggle between the internal forces of life and death instincts , child s phantasy , innate
envy and gratification and lack of with the prime object (mother).
Klein believed that the mother is most important and infants have an innate mother an unconscious

The client for the therapist sometimes plays out this position also. Is he there to be good or bad?
Depressive position follows the paranoid schizoid position as the anxiety of being destroyed by the
object gets replaced by fear of destroying the object. The infant then begins a cycle where some
negativity is internalized in order to gain control of it, and some good is projected onto the mother so
that she could protect the infant. These cycles of projection and introjection continue until the infant
realizes that the good mother and the bad mother are one and the mother whom he phantasized of
destroying is the same mother he loves.
This causes immense guilt for earlier persecutory feelings towards the object and the infant realizes
that the mother cannot be blamed all the time and this explains the far away look children have
sometimes in their eyes.
The infant suffers from depressive anxiety and this position is defined by a loss of innocence . This is
a healthy development and depressive word is misleading here because actually it s a step forward and
if this position is not resolved it can lead to

Food Bank Volunteerism
Brisk fall air was wrapped around us as we inhaled the faint smell of musk in the fairly large
warehouse building. Around us was rows and rows of grocery store products all organized in
categories such as pasta, tomato products, and fruits. Our job here was to take boxes and carts full of
food and stock the shelves. These donations came from community members that did local food drives
for the Food Bank... This was four very long years ago. I was a freshman and was a member of the
Business Professionals of America which is an organization based off of business and technology, but
is enormously involved within the community and is consistently doing work with different

precedent of Rome s founding 15 and this is shown by Augustus in commemorating the temple to

Diamonds Equal Power Essay
A mans best friend is a dog and girl s Diamonds. Marilyn Monroe said it best, diamonds are a girl s
best friend. This timeless saying makes Tiffany s Co, Cartier, and Harry Winston very happy and helps
the sale of diamonds more than Ms. Monroe will ever know. A diamond is not just the 4c s anymore,
color, carat weight, clarity and cut. Diamonds are revolving into something more than the hardest
mineral. The diamond says more than words could express. A symbol of love is worn on the left but

left and right to prove she is financially successful, then this advertisement will be appealing to that
person.
In the advertisement the company pitches these lines Your left hand plans ahead. Your right hand plans
for anything. Your left hand gets it done, your right hand shows how it s really done. Women of the
world, raise your right hand. The intended target market appeals to women who feel as if it is their job
is to show the world what a real woman can accomplish. Not only do the marketers use pathos to
instill an emotion into women flipping through the pages of a massive magazine full of ads, but they
use an African American woman.
This campaign appeals to wealthy white women but the seemingly left out population of wealthy
black women also. The woman portrayed in the ad with her right hand bent looks strikingly familiar to
the campaign from Rosie the Riveter, we can do it. Rosie the riveter is known as a hard working
woman during the Industrial Revolution. She is the quintessence of a strong woman. Older women
will pick up on this if they remember the campaign picture. The right hand ring empowers women to
another level of class and sophistication. Not only is the model showing the diamonds status but also it
s strength. It screams silently, I am a woman of influence so take notice.

Kay Redfield Jamison s Unquiet Mind
Walking down the street, everyone seems to go about their business, not taking the time to look at
others around them and see the potential suffering that could be occurring. While reading Unquiet
Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison, it became clear how frightful it is to travel through life with Bipolar
disorder. Kay began as a child growing up within a household of mental illness without knowledge
until she was much older. Yet at the age of fifteen she did know that her sister had an enormous artistic
imagination and soul (Jamison 15). This included having raging anger at different times co occurring
with her father s increased negative behavior of depression, rage and drinking after he retired and they

flown around easily without evidence of the alleged diagnosis. This publication changed my
perspective on mental illness due to always hearing society s opinion on the phrase. Kay s experience
shows an individual who suffered tremendously behind doors that no one else could relate to, having
episodes last days to months not switching every minute like society s stereotypes. It is obvious that
there is not control and while medication helps, there is a significant consequence when missing
treatment. Additionally, material learned within this book can help fundamentally determine someone
suffering this illness. For example, if someone has manic highs and lows that force them to change
their daily lifestyle for a period of time and developes changing impulsive decisions there could be an
underlying illness. Even though there are few details that can fall into the category of Bipolar, it is still
rare and unless diagnosed by a doctor one should never jump to conclusions about another

Essay about Trade Between Australia And China
Many products we use today are made in China. Trade between Australia and China has heightened in
the last couple of years. China has one of the world s largest economies. It has an increasing role in
shaping the world economy, accounting for a third of the increase in the world s gross domestic
product and imports for the period 2000 to 2003 (The Economist 2004). It is also home to a population
of 1.3 billion inhabitants, consuming a variety of goods from food items to luxury commodities, toys,
clothing, gifts, most car parts and many more things Australia benefits from. For non agricultural
goods, Australian import tariffs are generally low. The most notable exceptions are on motor vehicles

Since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy in 1978, China s economy has been
undergoing a rapid and healthy development. Over the past 27 years, China s annual GDP growth has
averaged 9.4 per cent, more than doubled that of the world as well as more than two folds that of the
developed nations over the same period. In 2004, China s GDP reached USD1650billion, an increase
of 9.5 per cent over 2003.(The Embassy of the People s Republic of China in Australia, June 2005)
Last year Australia imported $287.8 billion in goods from China, up from $51.5 billion a decade ago,

Functions Of The Progressive Era
The progressive era in the United States of America was a big change in the social reforms of the
country, largely lasting between the 1890 s to the 1920 s. It marked a huge change in the way that the
country operated when it came to the social constraints of the government, businesses, and the world
of industrialization. And most importantly it was a movement that sparked a change in America for the
betterment of everybody, a way to get rid of all the rotten ideals in the country s social machinations
and replace it with opportunity for everybody. In this essay I m going to point out the specifics of what
it meant to be progressive and how it changed everything.
The ideas and functions of the progressive era were to mainly to weed out the corrupt forces in the
government through things like the industrial industry and immigration. In the movement of the
progressive era, the biggest targets were painted on the backs of corrupt political organizations and
their respective higher ups. The primary goal was to take these organizations down in order further
develop a more straightforward democracy in the government. Another big mission of the progressive
movement was to trust bust corporations that were largely considered to be dirty, in order to bring
balance and make things fair in the world of businesses and entrepreneurship. And as a progressive
you were also very likely to support the banishment of alcoholic beverages, as well as supporting the
women s suffrage movement. So the basic all around theme of the progressive era was out with the old
and in with the new, pinpointing the weak and outdated spots in certain areas and upgrading them to
better fit with the current times. Progressives wanted to modify things like government, education,
finance and find plausible theories to scientific, engineering, and medical studies that could bring
solutions to certain problems in that area.
Originally the progressive movement started at a much smaller level, with many separate movements
happening in smaller areas, like a town or a city. Eventually the movement would get bigger and
bigger, going from a state wide level and eventually reaching a national level as one big movement
amongst the people. The leaders of this

Copyright In The Music Industry
Since the recording of music began, the music industry has been very dependent on record labels to
help artist reach mainstream success. The role of a record label is to assist an artist/musician in gaining
of the attention consumers. Along with that these labels also aid performers in marketing their work
through radio, magazines, newspapers, and television, but also involves the marketing of music
recordings and live performances. The majority of the time they would send artist s work to publishers
that would work on trademarks, production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, but most
importantly is the enforcement of copyright laws for written and sound recordings. With that being
said record labels are the ones who set the terms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a jazz musician copyrights usually, applies to tunes and notes that are already written down and
not solos. Copyright laws consider most early jazz songs as derivative works. What that means is that
copyright protection and rights are based not on what the jazz musician has added, but what he has
used. Under the Copyright Act, the owner of the composition copyright has the exclusive right to
prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work. Categorizing jazz interpolations as
derivative works have practical consequences that do not favor the jazz musician. As an initial matter,
there is the issue of how jazz musicians must go about obtaining the rights even to record the song.
The Act creates a compulsory licensing scheme for copyrighted compositions, which allows players to
use any musical composition without having to negotiate with the copyright owner for permission, so
long as the musical work has been licensed previously to someone else for mechanical reproduction
and the musician pays a statutory royalty. Usually, all they needed was a mechanical license to
perform the works that were covered. The license would allow them to automatically get permission
from the artist from the artist and the publishers in return guaranteeing them royalties from the cover.
Musicians have more immediate access to previous artistic works than artists in other mediums
seeking to use prior works. The compulsory licensing scheme for musical derivative works thus
alleviates some of the transaction costs of bargaining. The problem is that obtaining a compulsory
license does not protect the original musical contributions added in the subsequent artist s rendition.
That is, compulsory licensees convey only the right to record and distribute the underlying work. A
separate copyright does not automatically attach another form of the material to that copyright. If a
musician wants to protect his pieces, he

Analysis Of Beverly Tatum s Why Are All The Black Kids...
Racism is actually a topic that seems to be tabooed world wide. In the first chapter of Beverly Tatum s
Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria she discusses racism and all of its
components. In this chapter she discusses white privilege, active and passive racism, prejudice and
much more. Beverly explains how racism is a system of institutional policies and cultural messages
that is advantageous to white people and disadvantageous to people of color . This would explain how
white people continue to be at a higher advantage and benefit from racism. This would be called white
privilege. In this chapter, Beverly Tatum also discusses the differences between racial identity and
ethnic groups.
Even in 2015, there are still clear signs of not only racism but white privilege as well. African
Americans are killed every single day yet people still believe this isn t a racial issue. If a white person
were to be killed by a black police officer in self defence there would be total pandemonium. There s
many cases where a white police officer/person was able to get off on murder when the victim was
black. Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, and Sam Dubose are prime examples of police
brutality. There was even a hashtag that was started to raise awareness on these issues. The hashtag
#BLACKLIVESMATTER is definitely more informative than news stations today. News stations are
always able to twist the story to benefit the white person more. They ll call mass

Summary Of 13 Most Wanted Men By Alhol Warhol
Instead of taking the rejection with a grain of salt and moving on, Warhol interpreted it as a challenge
to convince others to view him as a serious artist. He realized no one would take him seriously if he
continued to pursue his interests such as displayed in Boys Kissing Boys. Instead of moving away
from his homosexual subject matter altogether, Warhol found other less direct ways of including it in
his work. 13 Most Wanted Men was commissioned to be displayed at the 1964 1965 New York World
s fair, but it was painted over within days of its debut in what some have described as quite literally
white washing the work. Warhol printed large images of criminals side by side who were suspected of
being part of the Mafia; the images he gathered were from a booklet that was released by the NYPD s
Commissioner a few months prior to the fair s opening day. The piece was 20 x20 and done entirely in
black and white. Gerard Malanga, Warhol s studio assistant, said [Andy] thought it would be funny
and shocking within the context of a family outing, in regards to Warhol s choice of subject matter.
The subject in this context is the wanted men. On the surface of the work, it features mugshots of
thirteen criminals, however, there is a double meaning placed within the title of the work. Warhol is
toying with the notion that law enforcement officials were not the only ones who want men. The entire
piece is built around a pun with homosexual undertones. The portraits are

Latin America Foreign Policy Essay
Latin America cannot be categorized as one homogenous block. In spite of sharing multiple aspects
culture, language, and history there is not a single standard culture that distinguishes the region. One
aspect of Latin American culture, regarding foreign policy, is a prevalent respect for the norm of
sovereignty and non intervention. There exists a strong disposition to follow international law as a
means to prevent war or at the very least ward off potential intervention by extraregional powers.
Accordingly, the factor of self interests and self preservation creates a divergent spectrum of foreign

into account that each country is independent from each other, and with differing interests, this essay
will give multiple reasons as to why such a variety in policy exists. Accordingly, this essay will show
a propensity for states to apply the foreign policy development strategy that best fits their needs.
Although there may be a sense of preferential treatment for some strategies, Latin American countries
are not inherently bound to a specific development scheme.
The Legalistic Nature of Latin America
Legalism as a cornerstone of Latin American norms has effectively shaped the relationship between
how these states relate to each other and the world. According to Arie Kacowicz, it was considered
honorable for a country to meet its lawful commitments not divorced from considerations of national
interests such as prestige and reputation. When a region s identity relies so much on traditional
legacies, the trend is to lean towards the accepted norms that culturally tie the region. In its simplest
terms, norms are standards of behavior or laws that oversee the behavior of a societal block. Although,
Latin America cannot be studied as a homogenous block, countries in the region vary in their
alignment patterns independently of each other in an attempt to pursue self interests. There is,
however, enough of a social

The Glass Menagerie By William Shakespeare Essay
We all want to disappear at times... escape even. In the end we all know that we cannot run from our

What Has The Industrial Revolution Improved For Modern...
What Has the Industrial Revolution Improved for Modern Civilization?
Agriculture
During the Industrial Revolution many major improvements were made to fundamental areas in
society such as agriculture, textile and metal manufacturing, transportation, economic policies, and
social structure (Montagna, The Industrial Revolution). Changes within the agriculture industry were a
central part of industrial change due to the large position that agriculture contributed to raw materials
in the textile industry. Agriculture specifically gave to the demand for products such as wool and
cotton which contributed to the production of cloth. Additionally, the advancement of metal allowed
for better farming tools which allowed for technical advancements in the way that crops were
harvested. The ultimate importance in the changes made to the agriculture industry revolved around
food availability. The changes in technology and advancements in crop rotation made it possible to
feed large populations of people. The agricultural changes provided enough food to sustain a sufficient
workforce, which additionally allowed expansion of industry and resulted in economic expansion
(Montagna, The Industrial Revolution).
The Textile Industry Hand in hand with agriculture, the textile industry grew exponentially during this
period. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, the creation of fabric occurred independently in homes. The

Ethanol Pros And Cons
Fuel prices seem to be the subject that always makes headlines on a regular basis since the United
States is the biggest consumer of fossil fuel in the world. The Central Intelligence Agency reported
that in 2015 alone, the United States consumed over 19 million barrels of refined petroleum products
per day. The data suggests that Americans consumed almost 5 million barrels more than China and
India, the two most populous countries on earth. (Central Intelligence Agency, n.d.) High energy
consumption forces Americans to rely on foreign fuel sources since domestic fuel supplies are simply
not enough to satisfy the thirst. Due to this very reason, the U.S. is often subject to unpredictable fuel
prices and fuel shortage scare. It also has to cope with the rise in emission that contributes directly to
climate change, another hot topic of the 21st century. Enter ethanol, an alcohol addition to gasoline
that promises to reduce fuel prices, stretch fuel supplies, and solve the global warming dilemma.
Ethanol, however, has not lived up to its reputation. In fact, it has fallen short on many occasions and
become a subject of controversy.

The Function Of Gun Control
The function of guns in society is a very controversial topic that has long been debated. There are
those who believe that guns have no purpose in the hands of private citizens and civilians. Whereas,
others believe that guns are the very foundation that protects American s rights and liberties stated in
the Constitution. Under the second amendment that was ratified in the Supreme Court s ruling in
1791, Americans have the right to bear arms at the level of an individual, not just the well regulated
militia. For the vast majority of Americans, the central issue associated with gun control is the upshot
of crime, which rolls over onto public health. Americans are twenty times more likely to be killed by a
gun than any other developed nation on Earth. It is a sobering fact that today, there have been more
American deaths by guns than American deaths caused by wars dating by to the American Revolution.
Gun control advocates believe that having stricter gun control laws will make guns less accessible and
more difficult to gain possession of by people who should not have them such as criminals or the
mentally ill. They reason that this will cause a decrease in the number of deaths. Gun ownership
proponents argue that the creation of such laws would interfere with American citizens rights to bear
arms (for self protection against crimes and unjust government.) Following these laws would also
create other issues such as law abiding citizens being prey to criminals due to their

and the energy infrastructure to a great extent. (Alon, 2003, p. 3) One of the factors that created the
variance in culture is the vast geological differences that impose different life styles based on various
resources.
Resources:
China has vast resources like coal and fossil fuel and hydro electric potential. The problem is the
development of the infrastructure. The geological position off resources and the fragmentation of the
regions and the poor development of the infrastructure can hamper growth. There is a greater phase of
urbanization in China now but this is lesser by the world level and there are vast regional and cultural
differences within the Chinese towns that lend a distinct cultural ethos to the urbanization and
functioning of organizations. (Mengkui; Bingwen, 2006, p. 112) This can be seen in the problem of
transporting coal, the major source of power, and the location of the dams and other infrastructure that
were created by the centralized regime. The problem is that the political system of China is unitary
and the entire provinces have their decisions made by the Centre at Beijing

blood chemistry (such as glucose monitoring), ambient temperature, blood pressure, sound, vibration,
and parts proximity pressure. Ethical Issues
One of the main issues brought up in putting this sort of product out to the public is the privacy issue.
There is somebody who knows where the user is, every second of every day. With this, great deal of
privacy and security is at risk. This kind of knowledge is very tempting for those who may not have
the best intentions. Management may misuse or sell the information that the product provides. People
have almost no protection from businesses that want to use your personal records for profit, so who is
to stop them from doing it? The GPA can be used to develop precisely targeted information
concerning thier personal habits. Hackers also may be able to access information for their own
personal gain. Another issue brought up is the reliance on databases. A slight error in the information
can have a major effect on somebody s life. It is extremely difficult to detect inaccurate information in
databases. There have been many cases of database errors ruining people s lives. Is it right to record
somebody s personal information when there is room for human error?

Moby Dick Dualism
In Herman Melville s Moby Dick, Melville utilises the symbolism of the colour of the Great White
Whale to demonstrate his theme of duality. All the different character on the Pequod seem to be a
representation of the good and evil sides of humanity. Upon first reading, the novel seems to be a
simple but rather drawn out documentation of whaling; on closer inspection, however, shows how
Melville examines the terrifying realities of society. Melville discusses the use of the colour white and
its elusive nature, this is suggested by a weakening sense of spirituality within the borders of
civilisation, psychologically by Ahab s declining state of sanity and lastly physically by the whale s
flight. Moby Dick is a Great White Whale whom Ahab has

The First World War I, A Brief History With Documents By...
During World War I, there were two main powers fighting against each other, the allied powers and
the central. The allied powers consisted of; France, Britain, Russia, Italy, and the United States. The
central powers consisted of; Germany, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. The war all started
because new Germany wanted to become a global power, but Britain was ahead already, and there
couldn t be two global powers at once. Both Germany and Britain saw war as an opportunity; to
countries, war could have been a positive thing. However, neither of the countries anticipated how
long and severe the war would be. The book The First World War, a Brief History with Documents

Documents 13, 15, 17, and 18 are all letters written by British soldiers to their families back at home.
To start off, communication between the soldiers and their loved ones was closely being monitored
during the war. According to the book, those who were left behind was carefully managed (Grayzel
65). For example, document 18 is a letter written by a British soldier who explains how horrible they
are treating them while in combat. Because of all the negative things he talked about in his letter
during his time at war the letter was never sent out. Back at home during this time, the countries were
trying to convince their men to sign up for the war and have the people at home help the war in any
way. War posters like documents 10, 11, 12 and 13 all depict this image. During the wartime, they
wanted as much support from the people at home as possible. As men, you were classified weak, and
not a real man if you did not sign up for war. In document 9, it is a British recruitment poster. The
propaganda poster simply implies that the women/ citizens of Britain are asking for their men to go off
and protect their nation. If you were not able to join the war they wanted you to donate your money,
time, and create weapons to assist the war. Without the support of the people at home, they would not

Legend Of Orpheus Comparison
Throughout Opera s long history, the myth of Orpheus has been one of the genre s most recognized
stories. Many operas have been based on the Greek legend of Orpheus. The legend of Orpheus tells a
story of the demigod musician whose songs conquer Hades itself with their beauty. The use of music
in the Greek legend serves the same purpose, as music does in operas, to show the power of music,
and how it can change emotions, and how intertwined music and love is. This tale of love, a love so
strong it can overcome death, shows how true passion can bring music to life. The Operas show that
music is able to soften any heart and overcome any obstacle.
Out of all the Operas composed based on the Orpheus legend, there are two that stand out the ... Show

When Benedetto Handel advised Gluck that his works had not pleased the public he traveled to Paris
where he was very much influenced by the operas of Jean Philippe Rameau. From 1755 to 1761 he
was in Vienna, where he began reforming opera along the more dramatic lines suggested in Marcello s
Teatro alla moda. Gluck composed his piece Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762.
In the legend, Orpheus is considered the greatest musician to have ever lived. He was the son of the
God Apollo, the god of the son, music, truth and prophecy. According to the story, Orpheus wife
Euridice was unfortunately bitten by a snake and killed while trying to escape from Aristaeus, a
Shepard, who was overcome by her beauty and was pursuing her through the woods. When Orpheus
learned of Euridice s death he was grief stricken and sang, he sang a tune so beautiful it deeply
touched everything, living and not living, in all the world and the heavens above. He descended into
Hades, and when he played his song, even managed to melt Hades cold heart. He was told that he told
take Euridice, but only on one condition, he could not look upon her until they were out of the
underworld. As foreshadowed, Orpheus could not resist looking back before they had fully escaped
the underworld, and he lost her forever along with meeting his own death soon after. Both operas
replace the tragedy of the original myth with something more suiting and cheerful. In L Orfeo, the
opera ends with Orpheus being

  • 2. Roman Architecture Essay When one thinks of Roman architecture, many things come to mind, such as arches, columns, statues, and richly covered surfaces in marbles. One must stop to think that this empire, which gained power and influence in the first century BC, must have been influenced from the thousands of years of cultures preceding them in order to create their masterpieces of ingenuity. This phenomenon can be seen in our borrowing of ideas of ancient Greece and Rome for the construction of our capitol buildings in the United States. The Romans surely considered design principles of other cultures when developing their buildings, since daily conquests of new lands opened Roman soldiers eyes to innovations from the great vastness of their empire. Doing so, he managed to design the most captivating section of his estate, the Great Canopus and Serapeum, which have roots in ancient architecture, while also displaying Hadrian s own capability to produce innovative designs through many different elements of their construction. Ancient Egypt, which lasted as a powerful empire from 3150 to 30 BC, left a huge legacy on the world of construction and architecture. Although their architecture revolved around veneration of the dead, it served as inspiration to many Greek buildings and as a key source for Hadrian s Canopus design. Through his travels to Alexandria, Egypt, Hadrian was inspired for the overall design of the estate by attempting to recreate an Alexandrian garden with sacred landscapes, as seen through the Villa s structures conforming to the terrain. Unfortunately, in the 16th century AD, these example of an Alexandrian garden, created through the use of statuary and fountains were removed from Hadrian s villa and re used in order to create a Renaissance garden based upon Roman ideals of gardening. The large lake in the center of the Canopus is representative of a branch of the Nile River that connects Alexandria to the Egyptian city of Canopus on the Nile Delta, for which this section of his villa was named after. The Death Of The Lighthouse Edward Teddy Daniels, a U.S. Marshal in 1954 is heading to Shutter Island a remote island accessible only by boat, home to Ashecliffe, a secure psychiatric facility with his newly assigned partner Chuck, to search for a missing patient. As Teddy looks more into the disappearance of the patient, strange things begin to happen all around him. After his partner s disappearance, he then comes across a former doctor living in a cave on the side of the island, who tells Teddy that the doctors are performing experimental surgery in the island s lighthouse. This causes Teddy to take precarious measures to investigate the lighthouse. Upon reaching the lighthouse, Teddy is met by the lead psychiatrist and his missing partner, and is told that this was an elaborate role play, and that he suffered from mental illness following the death of his children and him murdering his own wife. Teddy comes back to reality as Andrew Laeddis and decides he cannot live with his reality. Andrew Laeddis (Edward Teddy Daniels) was a middle aged, Caucasian man, who had a wife and three children before they were murdered. Laeddis was formerly part of the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp as a soldier in the United States military, then became a U.S. Marshal after the war had ended. Edward Daniels is an anagram for Andrew Laeddis, which is Teddy s real identity, which he learns when he has a moment of clarity. • 4. Relationships In The Endurance The Endurance is about the struggle of 28 men who journey through the Antarctic. Shackleton was able to recruit men to sail on the Endurance to the Antarctic and cross by foot. The men were ready for adventure and excited to begin the journey with haste, not realizing that they were going to encounter the struggles of survival. Some of the many ways that they were able to overcome adversity was by strong relationships, purpose, and cheerfulness. Having a strong relationship with piers is essential for the times of crisis in times of survival. During the long polar nights, the crew on board the Belgica suffered from insanity and many lost their lives due to it. The crew members that were on the Endurance had the reverse effect. They had the desire to get to know each other even though their characters were contrasting, and they began to draw closer to each other by talking and sharing experiences. On the Belgica, there was no relationship between the men, and even one man feared that the men wanted to kill him. The crew members of the Endurance valued relationship and were able to survive the polar nights. Even in the Bible, God gave Adam a wife because He knew that it was better for Adam. In Genesis 2:18 it says, And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. God created Eve to be with Adam. God knew that it was better for Adam to have a companion/relationship with Eve. In the same sense, the crew members ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Mary Wigman Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was down rooted to the earth; dark images, death, witches, and war inspired her. She used heavy and tense percussion or silence. A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed. One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart and Armitage 13 14). Once you go in deeper into why Wigmans pieces are so different compared to Duncan you start looking at the bigger picture of how Germany was doing at the time, with the whole World War I (1914 1918) and the beginning of Hitler s upraise in the 1930 s leading to World War II (1939 1945) this was all during the time frame of Wigmans life. Knowing that these two important figures both created dances and created a new thing at the time called modern makes them quite extraordinary, because they both loved modern dancing, they both created a living off of it, yet they were in different parts ... Frames are intellectual stereotypes that make the interpretation of the world around us easy by filtering out details that we believe or have found in the past to be insignificant. Next the scope and types of exploitation will be discussed. Human trafficking is an issue that affects countries all over the world. Governments have made an effort to curb trafficking, however these efforts have been very narrowly focused. American ignorance has led to poor handling of the issues by policy makers. Finally the essay will discuss a proposed solution and set some goals for society to work on in the future. When examining the traditional definition of slavery, it focuses on one human being taking ownership of another. Traditionally slaves were transported by lengthy sea voyages. However, with advancements in transportation human trafficking victims can be quickly and easily moved around the world (Kara 67). According to Robert Uy, Trafficking, prostitution, and slavery have existed since the beginning of civilization and, while at times have been prohibited, have continued to exist (215). Slaves can be exploited virtually forever with a form of slavery known as bonded labor, which has existed for centuries. Individuals involved in this type of slavery are often loaned money with the agreement to work of the debt; unfortunately, the pay is so low the debt is almost never repaid (Kara 67). Despite legislative efforts to pass effective anti trafficking and anti forced labor laws, the overwhelming focus has been on preventing sex trafficking. This coupled ... • 25. Functions Of The Progressive Era The progressive era in the United States of America was a big change in the social reforms of the country, largely lasting between the 1890 s to the 1920 s. It marked a huge change in the way that the country operated when it came to the social constraints of the government, businesses, and the world of industrialization. And most importantly it was a movement that sparked a change in America for the betterment of everybody, a way to get rid of all the rotten ideals in the country s social machinations and replace it with opportunity for everybody. In this essay I m going to point out the specifics of what it meant to be progressive and how it changed everything. The ideas and functions of the progressive era were to mainly to weed out the corrupt forces in the government through things like the industrial industry and immigration. In the movement of the progressive era, the biggest targets were painted on the backs of corrupt political organizations and their respective higher ups. The primary goal was to take these organizations down in order further develop a more straightforward democracy in the government. Another big mission of the progressive movement was to trust bust corporations that were largely considered to be dirty, in order to bring balance and make things fair in the world of businesses and entrepreneurship. And as a progressive you were also very likely to support the banishment of alcoholic beverages, as well as supporting the women s suffrage movement. So the basic all around theme of the progressive era was out with the old and in with the new, pinpointing the weak and outdated spots in certain areas and upgrading them to better fit with the current times. Progressives wanted to modify things like government, education, finance and find plausible theories to scientific, engineering, and medical studies that could bring solutions to certain problems in that area. Originally the progressive movement started at a much smaller level, with many separate movements happening in smaller areas, like a town or a city. Eventually the movement would get bigger and bigger, going from a state wide level and eventually reaching a national level as one big movement amongst the people. The leaders of this ... The role of a record label is to assist an artist/musician in gaining of the attention consumers. Along with that these labels also aid performers in marketing their work through radio, magazines, newspapers, and television, but also involves the marketing of music recordings and live performances. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a jazz musician copyrights usually, applies to tunes and notes that are already written down and not solos. Copyright laws consider most early jazz songs as derivative works. What that means is that copyright protection and rights are based not on what the jazz musician has added, but what he has used. Under the Copyright Act, the owner of the composition copyright has the exclusive right to prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work. Categorizing jazz interpolations as derivative works have practical consequences that do not favor the jazz musician. As an initial matter, there is the issue of how jazz musicians must go about obtaining the rights even to record the song. The Act creates a compulsory licensing scheme for copyrighted compositions, which allows players to use any musical composition without having to negotiate with the copyright owner for permission, so long as the musical work has been licensed previously to someone else for mechanical reproduction and the musician pays a statutory royalty. Usually, all they needed was a mechanical license to perform the works that were covered. The license would allow them to automatically get permission from the artist from the artist and the publishers in return guaranteeing them royalties from the cover. Musicians have more immediate access to previous artistic works than artists in other mediums seeking to use prior works. The compulsory licensing scheme for musical derivative works thus alleviates some of the transaction costs of bargaining. The problem is that obtaining a compulsory license does not protect the original musical contributions added in the subsequent artist s rendition. That is, compulsory licensees convey only the right to record and distribute the underlying work. A separate copyright does not automatically attach another form of the material to that copyright. If a musician wants to protect his pieces, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Analysis Of Beverly Tatum s Why Are All The Black Kids... Racism is actually a topic that seems to be tabooed world wide. In the first chapter of Beverly Tatum s Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria she discusses racism and all of its components. In this chapter she discusses white privilege, active and passive racism, prejudice and much more. Beverly explains how racism is a system of institutional policies and cultural messages that is advantageous to white people and disadvantageous to people of color . This would explain how white people continue to be at a higher advantage and benefit from racism. This would be called white privilege. In this chapter, Beverly Tatum also discusses the differences between racial identity and ethnic groups. Even in 2015, there are still clear signs of not only racism but white privilege as well. African Americans are killed every single day yet people still believe this isn t a racial issue. If a white person were to be killed by a black police officer in self defence there would be total pandemonium. There s many cases where a white police officer/person was able to get off on murder when the victim was black. Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, and Sam Dubose are prime examples of police brutality. There was even a hashtag that was started to raise awareness on these issues. The hashtag #BLACKLIVESMATTER is definitely more informative than news stations today. News stations are always able to twist the story to benefit the white person more. They ll call mass ... • 28. Summary Of 13 Most Wanted Men By Alhol Warhol Instead of taking the rejection with a grain of salt and moving on, Warhol interpreted it as a challenge to convince others to view him as a serious artist. He realized no one would take him seriously if he continued to pursue his interests such as displayed in Boys Kissing Boys. Instead of moving away from his homosexual subject matter altogether, Warhol found other less direct ways of including it in his work. 13 Most Wanted Men was commissioned to be displayed at the 1964 1965 New York World s fair, but it was painted over within days of its debut in what some have described as quite literally white washing the work. Warhol printed large images of criminals side by side who were suspected of being part of the Mafia; the images he gathered were from a booklet that was released by the NYPD s Commissioner a few months prior to the fair s opening day. The piece was 20 x20 and done entirely in black and white. Gerard Malanga, Warhol s studio assistant, said [Andy] thought it would be funny and shocking within the context of a family outing, in regards to Warhol s choice of subject matter. The subject in this context is the wanted men. On the surface of the work, it features mugshots of thirteen criminals, however, there is a double meaning placed within the title of the work. Warhol is toying with the notion that law enforcement officials were not the only ones who want men. The entire piece is built around a pun with homosexual undertones. The portraits are ... Agriculture During the Industrial Revolution many major improvements were made to fundamental areas in society such as agriculture, textile and metal manufacturing, transportation, economic policies, and social structure (Montagna, The Industrial Revolution). Changes within the agriculture industry were a central part of industrial change due to the large position that agriculture contributed to raw materials in the textile industry. Agriculture specifically gave to the demand for products such as wool and cotton which contributed to the production of cloth. There are those who believe that guns have no purpose in the hands of private citizens and civilians. Whereas, others believe that guns are the very foundation that protects American s rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. Under the second amendment that was ratified in the Supreme Court s ruling in 1791, Americans have the right to bear arms at the level of an individual, not just the well regulated militia. For the vast majority of Americans, the central issue associated with gun control is the upshot of crime, which rolls over onto public health. Americans are twenty times more likely to be killed by a gun than any other developed nation on Earth. It is a sobering fact that today, there have been more American deaths by guns than American deaths caused by wars dating by to the American Revolution. Gun control advocates believe that having stricter gun control laws will make guns less accessible and more difficult to gain possession of by people who should not have them such as criminals or the mentally ill. They reason that this will cause a decrease in the number of deaths. This has also affected the fuel and the energy infrastructure to a great extent. The geological position off resources and the fragmentation of the regions and the poor development of the infrastructure can hamper growth.
