The Effectiveness of the International Criminal Court Essay
There is a close relationship between human rights and criminal law. The scope of my paper will
surround human rights and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in addition to human rights and
international crimes. International criminal justice in this context speaks to those interested in
prosecuting against the background of international human rights and humanitarian norms. The use of
criminal law has many positive effects and pursues many goals that are worth considering. For
example, deterrence, accountability and punishment are important principles that will be discussed in
the context of human rights. Is the International Criminal Court an effective method to promote and
protect human rights internationally? If so, why and how? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To support my argument, I will first discuss the evolution of international criminal justice and the ICC.
Then I will address my three subsidiary arguments. First, I will argue that the International Criminal
Court is effective because it increases accountability of human rights violators. Secondly, I will argue
that the existence and use of the court increases disapproval and deterrence which protects human
rights making the ICC effective. Third, I will argue that the International Criminal Court is effective
because it allows for a universal standard of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour as well as
transcends and empowers national jurisdictions. Finally, I will address the counter argument and
conclude.
The Evolution of International Criminal Justice and the ICC
The evolution of international criminal justice is important to consider. Two ad hoc tribunals, the
International Criminal Tribunal of Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal of
Rwanda (ICTR), have facilitated the adoption of the ICC. The ICC came into existence on July 1,
2002. The court operates on the principle of complementarity which means that the court does not
function unless a state in question is unable or unwilling to investigate and, if warranted, prosecute for
one of the covered crimes. Whereas the ICTY and the ICTR had primary jurisdiction and could
supersede state action, the ICC only has the aforementioned

Lease Accounting Research and the G4+1 Proposal

INTRODUCTION
The Group of Four Plus One, or G4+1 for short, is a cooperative effort by national accounting
standard setters from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States
plus the International Accounting Standards Committee.
Conclusions reached by the G4+1 are not recognized as GAAP in any financial reporting jurisdiction.
However, by the very nature of its membership, its conclusions influence standard setting in many
jurisdictions. Thus, publication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lessee Accounting Research: An Analysis of Three Decision Contexts
The members of G4+1 agree that the purpose of financial reporting is to provide information for
making economic decisions. Empirical research incorporates this view by identifying and estimating
linkages between accounting information and actions taken by decision makers. In my discussion of
research on lessee accounting, I decompose the research into three decision contexts financial
statement analysis of equity risk, financial statement analysis of equity value, and decisions/actions by
management.
Research Related to the Risk of the Lessee s Equity
Most empirical research on lessee accounting is based on financial statement analysis as the decision
context, with particular emphasis on how unrecorded lease commitments might affect assessments of
shareholder risk. Possible reasons for this emphasis are: 1. finance theory links debt like obligations to
risk;
2. unrecorded leases are large for some companies;
3
and
3. mandated disclosures facilitate estimation of the unrecorded obligations.
4
The finance literature linking shareholder risk to leverage includes Modigliani and
Miller (1958), Hamada (1969), Rubenstein (1973), Bowman (1979), and Christie (1982).

Data Structure Of Using Hash Table
Overview:
Hashing in terms of encryption is the conversion of a word into a usually fixed length value or key
that represents the original word. Hashing is used to index and retrieve items in a database because it
is faster to find the item using the shorter hashed key than to find it using the original value. It
basically uses a hash function to convert the word into the key. Hash function is one that is used to
map data of random size to data of fixed size. Values that are returned from a hash function are called
as hash values, hash codes, or hash sums. It mainly uses hash table as a data structure to look up data
rapidly. There will be no two words with same hash value, otherwise collision occurs between the two
words.
In software programming, a hash table or hash map is a data structure that is used to execute an array
i.e. it is a structure that can map keys to values. A hash function is used to determine an index value
for an array of buckets or slots, with which we can find the correct value. A good hash function with
an algorithm are essential for good performance of the hash table though it can be difficult to achieve.
A basic requirement of a hash function is that it should provide distribution of hash values uniformly.
If the distribution is non uniform, it increases the number of collisions and the cost of resolving them.
Uniformity can be evaluated by observing statistical tests. If for example there exists uniform
distribution only for table sizes that are

The Watergate Scandal Of The United States
Negligent Nixon: The Watergate Scandal
The President of the United States is one of the most coveted, but difficult positions to obtain in the
world. Every four years a new leader is elected to uphold the supreme laws of the land that make up
our constitution. The president is sworn into office on their inaugural day in January where they are
sworn to faithfully execute and support all laws in the constitution, delegate international matters, and
be an advocate for the people. As the new leader of the United States of America and, the free world
as a whole, the President of the United States has many roles and functions, including: Commander in
Chief, Chief Diplomat, Chief Legislator, Chief Magistrate, Chief Executive, Party Leader, Chief of
State, Foreign Policy Director, and Popular Leader.
The President of the United States is one of the most powerful people in the world, and therefore the
people place an immense amount of trust in them. The people want someone they can trust because
they are who will represent the entire country. When an elected President does not uphold or stay true
to their duties it can cause uproar within society. If a president acts in a way that smears their
reputation it is very difficult for them to regain the trust and support of the citizens. For many, a strong
bond is now broken and cannot be repaired. There have been few presidents who have broken bonds
with the American people, in particular: Richard Nixon. Nixon s involvement in the

Did the Election of 1828 Represent a Democratic Revolt of...
Did the Election of 1828 Represent a Democratic Revolt of the People? Despite the outcome I fully
believe that the election of 1828 did in fact, create a democratic revolt of the people because of the
social and political backlash that the election created. The election of Andrew Jackson as President in
1828 marked the beginning of an era known as Jacksonian Democracy or the Age of the Common
Man. The changes in politics during Jackson s presidency provided various social and economic
changes. Actually, political change began several years before Jackson became president. In the
Election of 1824, Jackson had the most popular and electoral votes, but did not win the election.
Because the vote was split four ways, he did not have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, voters and politicians now nominated candidates, rather than the political party leaders in
Congress. This and other events led to a more democratic society. Jackson also gave government jobs
to regular people. This was called the spoils system. He appointed people to federal jobs depending on
whether they had campaigned for the Democratic Party. Anyone currently in office who was not a
democratic was replaced with a democrat. This was called the spoils system because it promoted a
corrupt government. He also believed in rotation in office. He wanted to make it possible for more
democrats to have government jobs, so he limited a person s time in office to one term. The spoils
system showed how one man was no better than another and helped build a strong two party system.
In the two party system, supporters of Jackson were Democrats and supporters of his rival, Henry
Clay, were the Whigs. The Democratic Party resembled the old Republican party of Jefferson, while
the Whigs represented the Federalist party of Hamilton. Jackson was similar to Jefferson because he
opposed increasing federal spending and the national bank. He vetoed 12 bills, which was more than
the total of all 6 presidents before him. One of the things he vetoed was the use of federal money to
make the Maysville Road, because it was entirely in one state. It

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Over The Hedge
The author of Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation, Judith Halberstam, uses rhetorical
strategies to speak to her point that animated movies can be used to reach a wide ranging audience to
convey deep underlying messages in a way that is entertaining for all. The author points out how Pixar
movies brings non traditional characters to life and faces them against real life struggles but does so in
a happy ending manor that captivates audiences. This is accomplished by the author introducing a plot
line from a Pixar movie that illustrates a struggle or classic battle and then describes the characters
that are in the struggle and how they live through it. The author then describes an actual real life
struggle and relates it back to the animated movie. Judith Halberstam points out that the movie
Chicken Run illustrates how aggressive industrial businesses maximize profits above anything else or
businesses that have a partnership between owners and workers to maximize profits. What are we to

In this case, this movie shows simple folk who are invaded by modern society. When the creatures
awake from their hibernation they discover that while they were sleeping, a soulless suburban
development stole their woodland space and the humans have erected a huge partition, a hedge, to
fence them out (Halberstam 10). For the creatures who lived in the woods that were taken over by the
humans, the simple life is replaced by fast moving, wasteful and irresponsible people. These animals
had to adapt to the changes in their new environment, food choices, new creatures, and relationships
with those creatures. They had to work to outgrow their title of vermin given to them by the humans
by proving that this was their territory and they were not going to let it be taken away from

coming mostly from Birmingham and London. The effect of this production on English gun makers

Prior to the war the Ordinance Bureau had decided to begin evaluating breech loading carbines for the
cavalry. Ripley opposed breech loaders or repeating rifles for infantry use. There was a belief that they
would waste ammunition, and were expensive. His main complaint was that the production of these
weapons would curtail production of carbines. He saw the inherent advantage of the breechloader for
mounted service. It was far simpler to reload from horseback than a muzzle loading arm. Because of
this there many options for domestic carbines at the start of the war. The Sharps carbine was the
weapon that the North wanted. The Sharps Company would produce over eighty thousand carbines
during the war. But these were not enough. In response to the demand for carbines various other arms
of good quality such as the Smith and Burnside were acquired. Some others of lesser quality such as
the Cosmopolitan and Maynard were also purchased at this time. Carbine production was centered in
Massachusetts also. Smith carbines, of which large numbers were ordered by the Government, were
built in part by Massachusetts Arms, and in part by the nearby American Machine Works in
Springfield (Edwards 102). This

Cultural Diversity
November 15, 2016
During the 1920s in an effort to reduce crime and corruption the prohibition on alcohol was passed,
little did these law makers know they were only worsening the situation. The streets started to run
rampant with crime, and bootleggers rose to power as organized raised as well. As organized crime
rose so did the Mafiosas. Throughout the 20th century the mafia has controlled the organized crime
scene with an unwavering fist only for its rule to be challenged by other families. The mafia s bosses
give each family its own unique style whether they be a media persona like Al Capone, A brutal killer
like Charles Luciano, or completely insane like George Moran.
Alphonse Capone is perhaps one of the most notorious gangsters of all time being remembered in
infamy as a very successful businessman and a stone cold killer. Before Capone would become a mob
boss he lived in a run down part of New York city. Capone went to a Catholic school, where he
showed academic promise, but due to the violent nature of Catholic school Capone was expelled from
school at the age of fourteen for assaulting a female teacher (A E Television Networks). After that
incident the young Capone picked up odd jobs until he met the gangster Johnny Torrio. Torrio had a
huge impact on Capone s life, giving him a look at how organized crime were transforming from
gangs, into empires. Capone bounced around from different gangs and ended up in a

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Christ Climbed Down, AndSometime...
Lawrence Ferlinghetti is often regarded as one of the most influential American poets of the 20th
century, and his writing covers a wide range of social topics regarding the status of American culture
during the 1950s and 60s. Many of Ferlinghetti s works focus on his vision of America and how that
vision had not come to fruition because of the less than ideal situations surrounding American culture
at the time. Consequently, Ferlinghetti was also an avid member of the Beat generation and used his
ability to write as a platform for spreading the message of the Beatniks. As we have discussed in class,
the Beatniks refer to the generation of young people during the 1950s and 1960s that rode the wave of
counterculture that was sweeping the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his poem, Sometime During Eternity... , he criticizes the way Americans view Jesus Christ and
questions the dogma attached to traditional Christian beliefs. Ferlinghetti discusses how the American
people like to treat Jesus as if he is some sort of high end celebrity, referring to him as hip and cat
(15), names which are usually associated with jazz musicians. However, despite the adoration the
American people use when talking about Jesus, Ferlinghetti states that we later ... Stretch him on the
Tree to cool/ And everybody after that/ is always making models/ of this tree/ with Him hung up/ and
always crooning His name (15 16). This quote shows that the American people are often able to speak
romantically of Jesus and adore Him with their words, but come up short with their actions, as they
put Him on the Cross by denying their faith in Him. As we have discussed in class, this is a reference
to the biblical figure, Peter, who denied Jesus three times just before the crucifixion of Jesus.
Ferlinghetti is writing this piece to show that the American people have turned into Peter, as we want
ourselves and others to believe that we are devout believers in Christ, but our faith crumbles and our
knowledge of Christ crumbles at the slightest provocation. Also, as we have discussed in class, the
poem is unorganized and does not seem to have a consistent pattern or verse, as well as many
references to jazz. This is because the poem is meant to have a theme of

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (OCD)
The final category would be those who hoard. Hoarding was once categorized as a symptom of OCD,
but has since been recognized as its own separate disorder based on evidence indicating differences in
cognitive and behavioral processing, course of illness, neurobiological basis and treatment response
(Mattina Steiner, 2016). But since the action of hoarding can be seen in many with OCD, it is
important for it to still be mentioned. Hoarders are those who have trouble throwing anything away
because of fear it may be needed or become useful in the future. These objects can include anything

This line of treatment is only used when everything else has been tried and none of it has worked.
Furthermore, it is also only used on those with OCD so severe they are unable to function properly. In
other words, this form of treatment is the last resort. Psychosurgery is a medical procedure that is
conducted on the patient s brain. First, it is important to know that those who have OCD have an

Racism In Angie Thomas s The Hate U Give
Angie Thomas novel The Hate U Give is the story of a teenage girl facing racism in the world around
her. Starr Carter lives in Garden Heights, a neighborhood filled with gangs, when one of her best
friends Khalil is shot by the police, she is quick to know he had been killed because of the racism that
exists in our world. Throughout the novel, Starr is constantly trying to show the world why Khalil died
in order to get justice for his death. She does not believe he deserved to die or the cop who shot Khalil
deserves to walk free of the crime he committed. Through different characters, the author is able to
convey the message of one should not form opinions on someone or something based on stereotypes.
Throughout the novel, some characters struggle with judging people before they know their past.
Angie Thomas is able to get this across to readers not only through Starr, but also characters such as
her father Maverick, her friends from school, and even Officer Cruise, the officer who killed Khalil.
Stereotypes in the novel are one of the main causes for Khalil s death. The officer had killed Khalil
because he had automatically assumed Khalil was a threat to him. Officer Cruise treated both Khalil
and Starr with disrespect at the time of the arrest because they are African American. When Khalil
began to move in order to ask Starr if she was okay, the Officer assumed he was reaching for a
weapon because he had already formed an opinion about Khalil based on his skin color even

Crime Rate In The 1970 s Essay
Before the 1960 s during the postwar era, there was little crime and the United States crime rate was

Neutron Star Research Paper
A neutron star is created from an old, burnt out star. When the core of the star has burnt out and turned
into iron, energy is no longer being produced and the core of the star condenses very quickly. This
compacts all of the protons (+) and electrons ( ) creating neutrons (o) and neutrinos which are particles
that do not carry a charge but are similar to electrons. Yes, this is probably where the name Neutron
Star came from. During the condensing of the star s core, the neutrinos are able to escape, but the
neutrons are squished together so much that their density is the same of an atomic nucleus density. A
violent explosion happens during this process and its called a supernova . To put this into perspective,
imagine taking something the size of our sun, if not bigger, and compacting it into an area the size of a
city. This is so dense that just a teaspoon of it would weigh about 1 billion tons! Crazy, right? Now,

early ages. Clovis hunters also appear around this time in the Mayan region. (Foster, 18) Later on in
the time about 300 B.C.E., Maya was controlled by two main classes which contained full power over
the empire which are kings and nobles. Under their rulings, hierarchical society was created and this
time was called the late preclassic periods.(Foster, 30) In term of burial, people bury the dead

The coasts, traces of humans presence have been submerged by rising sea levels, and in the highlands,
volcanic eruption may have buried evidence under thick layer of ash. By 700 B.C.E., Kaminaljuyu
already had constructed a major irrigation canal, and by 500 B.C.E., it began carving freestanding
stone slabs called stelae. This canal was a new technology by Kaminaljuyu and it advanced trade in
many ways.(Foster, 31) People started to migrate from Teotihuacan to Tikal starting from 500 B.C.E.
In Maya preclassic hiatus, droughts and volcanic eruptions occurred during this period and could have
caused the social displacement and political upheaval that explain the increase in fortifications at this
time. This wasn t a natural disaster but instead it was caused by deforestation. Its high climate drove
people out of Mirador Basin and also due to its high climate, it turn Earth into hard to farm clays. It
destroyed elaborate gardens and wetland agriculture of dykes and artificial fields that sustained large
preclassic populations in the lowlands. In southern Maya area, the impact of drought was compounded
by the eruption of the Ilopango volcano from 200 C.E. to 250 C.E. in central El Salvador.(Foster, 42)

Business Communication Is Different in Pakistan Compared...
Business Communication is different in Pakistan compared to western countries
Communication is any behaviour, verbal or nonverbal, that is perceived by another. (Dwyer 2006)
business communications are purposive interchanges of ideas, opinions, information, instructions and
the like, presented personally or impersonally by symbol or signal as to attain the goods of
organization. (Rosenblatt, Cheatham Watt 1992) Today, the organization is growing more complex and
the business is growing larger, because of this, the communication is necessary for passing
information between people working in the same organization, it provides the critical link between
core functions. As Robert Kent, former dean of Harvard Business School has said, In ... Show more

System policies greatly show the communication differences in it.
Take an example of university culture in both countries. FAST s students call their professors with Sir/
Mam /Professor while University of Arkansas s students call their professors simply with their last
names. This was a simple example depicting difference in university culture and relation of business
communication with organization s culture and country s system.
 Direction of communication in most of the organizations in Pakistan ( especially public sector) is
mostly downwards, the mechanism of feedback and innovation of new ideas is restricted to only few
organizations. While in USA the direction of communication is mostly both ways. For example
different surveys, feedback tests and reports are conducted in business organizations
monthly/annually.
 In oral communication, both Pakistan and USA have informal rumours and one to one discussions.
But group discussions are more common and preferred in west.
 Written communication has greatly been revolutionized by the advancement in technology
computerization. The public sector organizations in Pakistan are still working in old paper work style,
while some of the organizations have computerised there business environments for communication.
While western countries are far ahead in using technology for business communication.

Summary Of The Film Method Actor
Method Actor , created by Justin Stokes, began with actor John Shrapnel as he stood near a dimly lit
window inside a dreary room. In the video, he spoke about his experience as an actor and gave out
advice from personal knowledge. He mentioned the mentality and dedication needed to portray certain
acting roles. The mood of the video switched up as soon as he talked about his childhood and how he
began loving the art of film. The most significant role that he discussed was the role of a murderer. He
questioned how one can get into a role so intriguing and demanding of barbaric actions. As he
described the mind of a killer, the camera reeled back to display bars that obviously meant he was in a
jail cell. Justin Stokes usage of cinematography, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audio chosen by Stokes was used to create an image or a universal sentiment. In the beginning
and middle of the video, you can hear a gust of wind blow throughout the room (Stokes). It was heard
for a short period, but it can be used to foreshadow the content of the short film. When watching the
whole video, the gust of winds gave a sign that something bad or creepy was going to unfold. The gust
of winds sounded after he mentioned his mother that supported him. This also gave me a hint that his
mother must have gone through something horrible. The way the wind blew as he said mother created
a chilly atmosphere. Adding to the chilly atmosphere, the sound of slashes began in the middle of the
film as the actor talks about the feeling of stabbing someone (Stokes). These slash noises can get the
viewer s imagination to go insane with visuals of a brutal execution. The slashes sound slowly and
patiently, giving the listeners an image to grasp onto; an image that caused the viewers to undergo an
experience just as though they are standing at the crime scene. He heavily described the actions with
his dialogue along with the sound of a knife slashing through the air. It s as if they were going into the

Essay on To what extent is experience necessary for face...
It has been claimed that experience plays a crucial role in the development of face processing (Kelly,
Quinn, Slater, Lee, Ge Pascalis, 2007, p.1084). To what extent is experience necessary for face
processing? Support your argument with empirical evidence.
There is much debate on the subject of experience in regards to face processing. Some say that
experience is wholly important in face processing while others say that face processing is innate and
will develop without experience. It has been argued both that face processing is a perceptual process
organized at birth and that it originates in a more general process that becomes specialized due to
experience of different faces (Sugita, 2009). It may be that there is an innate ... Show more content on

They were then asked to decide whether they were the same or different when upright and inverted.
Deprived patients distinguished faces from the featural set normally, but were significantly impaired
for the configural set. These results indicate experience is indeed necessary for the normal
development of face processing; specifically configural processing of faces. They also suggest that
when visual input is delayed by only two months, there are permanent deficits (Le Grand et al., 2001).
It has been hypothesized that there may be a critical/sensitive period for certain aspects of face
processing to develop. Inferences from several data imply that there is a sensitive period and that it is
between the first 6 to 12 months of life (Mancini et al., 1994). Nelson (2001) proposes that regions
within the brain have the potential to become specialized for face processing and then when the face
perception apparatus becomes tuned by exposure to faces, this specification includes: recognizing
gender, age and emotional information. Sugita (2009) also suggests that there is a sensitive period for
face perception; as selective experiences significantly affect later development of face processing.
Although this theory has been inferred many times it is ultimately unknown for how long this period
may last. However, the concept of a sensitive period certainly supports the

My Beloved Shelbie By Jane Austen
To My Beloved Shelbie, At first, I wanted to write you a love letter describing how I feel about you,
and what you mean to me, but I believe it is better if in addition to describing my feelings that I clear
up all our miscommunications as best I can. Please understand that we see some things differently, an
example being when you felt that I expected something out of you that was likely my fault for not
doing my best to communicate my feelings but I never want you to feel like I demand something from
you or that you owe me something, because you don t, and I would be the first to tell you to not
tolerate that from anyone. It is something that I have viewed as an absolutely despicable and immature
act and I would never consciously do that to you. I may just have gotten anxious about telling you
how I feel because I could not bare to keep it from you for my own sake, I could not bare to hide that I
love you. To quote Jane Austen In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be
repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. And that s just it, it was
something I had to do and I did it in an absolutely cringeworthy manner for that I m sorry, I m also
sorry for any trouble or stress I may have caused you as I often caught myself after the fact realizing
that in an attempt to get you to like me ,in a purely platonic manner, I may have just said something

Hidden Depths In Will Smith s Life
Hidden Depths After analyzing the text from Will Smith s life it is clear to me that the characteristics
he had can be characterized as a cross between ego and super ego. In my opinion by analyzing Will
Smith s personal life it is clear to see that he puts the priorities of others before his needs. He obeys to
the social norms and in my opinion has no representation of an ID Factor. A perfect example of this is
looking at his life with his children. Will Smith puts the needs of his family before himself. Thus in
this one particular time when he was on tour he had opportunities to be unfaithful to his family
however he decided that it was not logical two act on his instincts or urges. Throughout the book it
appears that I can find a few defensive mechanisms used in Will Smith s life however the two
prominent ones that can be seen in my opinion would be denial and sublimation. The first clear
example of this can be seen and Will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Main Characters In Just Listen, By Sarah Dessen
The novel, Just Listen, by Sarah Dessen begins in a town called, Lakeview. Annabel Greene is the
main character and is returning to school after a long dramatic summer. The places of the book are a
huge part of the story such as, the local pool, Annabel s high school, and the Anger Management radio
station. Each of these locations carries scenes which changed Annabel s personality in many ways.
Annabel is a timid, blue eyed, blonde haired teenager. She is always eager to please and is very
protective of others feelings, but does this by keeping the truth away from them. Additionally, Annabel
not only goes to school, she also works for a model agency after her two sisters, Whitney and Kristen,
which she quickly changes perspectives upon throughout the story. Lastly, the impression I have
concluded with Annabel Greene is that she is very enclosed about what she feels but is very caring
about others. Sophie Barker, is another main character in the story and is told as an antagonist. Sophie
is strongly opinionated as well as rude. She has dark curly hair and as the text states in Sarah Dessen s
novel, she is gorgeous. Sophie has a complicated past which factors the way she acts now. Her parents
had a nasty divorce when Sophie was younger changing her. Sophie is important to the story because
she helps create a man versus man attribute to the book. She is Annabel s former best friend, but then
things changed after summer vacation. In summer, they first met at the pool,

Water Contamination, Tap Water Vs Expensive Bottled Water
I was fascinated by this experiment that we recently did on water contamination, tap water versus
expensive bottled water. Our water is tap well water. While exploring the topic futher, our research
area took place on our kitchen counter where we observed how the test chemicals reacted with the tap
water versus the bottled waters. We needed to follow the directions thoroughly, so we got accurate
results. We started with test strips of ammonia: all three glasses of water contained: 0 mg/L of
ammonia, 0 mg/L of chloride. The 4 in 1 showed: Tap water; 0 mg/L, total alkalinity; 10.0 of total

Our ecosystems are made of living and nonliving things that affect each other, so the importance of
being sure there is a safe water supply that is not contaminated universally is very important. Similar
studies that were done have proved similar findings such as another water analysis experiment
explained in an article by Joseph Montalvo and Ching Gen Lee which uses several methods to identify
trace organic contaminants in water. This study is in conjunction with EPA standards. Different
sources of water were treated with activated carbon (Montalvo Lee, para. 3, 1976). Different waters
were treated from ground source water to tap water to bottled waters. Based on the results, further
testing is recommended. Because of the variables of different water sources and carbon filters used, it
is recommended that everyone test their drinking water before trusting it. Another study, done by the
USEPA makes sure the nation has safe drinking water by safeguarding against hazardous minerals,
wastes, and negligible risks by implementing safety measures and making sure by law safety measures
and precautions are taken (Cotruo, 2012, para. 6).

How Did The Bible Influence British Literature
The KJV Bible is a book making book. The Bible has served for many purposes over the centuries and
holds so many genres in just one book. The Bible is very interesting because it we could fully
comprehend what was being taught. That s why the KJV Bible has had a tremendous effect on British
Literature throughout the centuries because not only did the Bible help to shape the English speaking
language but also has helped very famous British writers to use examples from the bible to help relate
to their topics in which they write upon. One of the most significant sources known as the KJV helped
shape the most common language known to man which is the English speaking language. The King
James Bible was a landmark in the history of the English language. The influence of this work has
been incalculable (Mcgrath 1). Literary scholars have heaped praise upon it (Mcgrath 1). Without the
Bible, the culture of the English speaking world would have been immeasurably improvised (Mcgrath
2). Until the Bible was translated, many English speaking Christians had to rely on their clergy to tell
them about such things (Mcgrath 2). Many learned biblical passages by heart, and found that their
written and spoken English was shaped by the language and imagery of this Bible, without this Bible,
there would have been no paradise lost, no pilgrim s progress, no Handel s Messiah, no Negro
spirituals, and no Gettysburg address. (Mcgrath 2). The King James Bible became part of the everyday

Should The United States Give Their Land Essay

that sees a great opportunity in having the US territories. What would be the advantage of having

Also, the United States of America would not have to pay some other countries to have their bases on
their land like they are paying Germany to have a military base there right now. It is much cheaper and
smarter for them to hold on to these territories because some of them can be even used for testing their
military machinery because many of them are uninhabited. As an example, the Marshall Islands used
to be used as a testing area for nuclear weapons. The territories could be used for many different
things that may be very useful for the United States of America. On the other hand, the inhabited
territories are highly productive islands and many American citizens love to visit these beautiful
places for a vacation. All of the territories have taxes which bring money to their own government and
federal taxes that bring money to the American government. As of now, tourism is one of the biggest
money making industries for the territories. Many American citizens enjoy the option to travel
somewhere for a vacation without needing visa. Some of the territories do not even require American
citizens to have a passport with them.

Flame Test
Aim:
To determine the cation in each of the unknown substance X, Y and Z by observing the flame colour
of different metal compounds.
Introduction:
A distinctive feature of many s block metals is their ability to produce flame colours.
At temperature of a Bunsen flame, a compound will decompose to give gaseous atoms of its
constituent elements. When an electron in the gaseous atom absorbs energy from the flame, it will
move from an orbital with lower energy to an orbital with higher energy. When such an electron
returns from an orbital of higher energy to an orbital of lower energy, a photon with energy equal to
the difference in energy of the two orbitals will be emitted. An emission line ... Show more content on

Golden yellow | Na+ |
Discussion: 1. Why do certain metal ions give flame colours in this way?
The elements have their outer electrons loosely bound so that they can be easily excited to higher
energy levels on heating. As these electrons return to their ground states, radiations are emitted. It
happens that for many Group I and II metals, these emitted radiations fall into the visible range of the
spectrum, so that they can be seen by eyes, i.e., visible. 2. What is the

What were your first thoughts when you read this? And then? And then? My first thought when I read

when it comes to others, such as Charley when he comes to visit, when Willy speaks to his brother in a

Willy barely even knew his father, and therefore this grand legend and hero of a man he claims to be

out to be more grandiose than they actually are. Oftentimes, people tend to glorify what they don t
know about or have not experienced in person. Precisely, one example of someone romanticizing what
they do not understand is the character Robert Cohn from The Sun Also Rises. Specifically, at the
beginning of the story, pages 2 to 3, Robert Cohn romanticizes South America. Like how Willy does
not know his father outside of the stories he s heard from his brother, Robert Cohn knows nothing
about South America aside from what he read in The Purple Land . Neither of them knows many
specific facts, with Robert unknowing of where, IN South America, he desires to travel specifically,
and Willy struggling to remember what instrument it was that his father actually played in the few
memories he has. This vagueness in understanding enables both of these characters to further
romanticize said places or people. All Willy sees is potential perfection; however, in actuality, he
scarcely knew the man.

WWII and the Road to Midway Essay
World War Two came to America on December 7th, 1941. The focus on America s involvement in the
war generally focuses on the European front. What must be remembered is the time and sacrifices
made in the Pacific theatre. America s entry into the war on the Pacific was not an immediate success.
It took American forces until the summer of 1942 at the Battle of Midway to become properly
prepared for the war. The American military learned much from their losses both through the strengths
of the Japanese forces and America s own faults. After these losses were realized, changes were made
within the military. These improvements allowed the American forces to turn the war back and begin
to have successes in the Pacific. Pearl Harbour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another aspect of the Japanese success was powerful and effective tactics. Tactics include the training
of the Japanese soldiers and their objectives in battle. Japanese soldiers were trained to die honourable
to fight to the death and never be taken prisoner3. Training the soldiers to fight this way was not only
traditionally Japanese, but it inspired them to continue fighting beyond what would be seen as a
reasonable time. This sincere dedication to defending their people and Emperor (the cause of this
training) allowed the Japanese soldiers to be effective killers even when faced with undeniable
defeat4. Beyond their training, the Japanese had other advantages in their battle objectives. The use of
radar was essential to the Americans, and so the Japanese were often ordered to target the radar
stations on islands before beginning full assaults5. Targeting the radar stations prevented the
Americans from properly estimating the Japanese forces or from knowing where they were headed.
The final tactical advantage the Japanese had was that their air force consisted of small experienced
squads especially for important missions6. Having been involved in a number of minor wars in east
Asia in the 1930s, Japanese forces were far more experienced; this lead to a much greater
effectiveness than the inexperienced Americans. Technologically, Japan was also ahead of America at
the outset of the war. This, partially, is due to experience and having been

War Of 1812 Facts
A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left

Historical Analysis, Discourse, And Frame Analysis
By using a mixed set of methodological methods that includes statistical analysis, historical analysis,
discourse analysis, and frame analysis techniques, Beckett is able to paint a broad picture of her
argument. Her use of polls and surveys demonstrates that the traditional link between public opinion
and the tough on crime policies that led to mass incarceration is problematic. Her historical analysis
traces the historical development of these policies highlighting the various players and actors
operating and struggling for power. Finally, her discourse and frame analysis demonstrates the ways in
which elites were able to utilize mass media to create a specific frame and discourse surrounding
criminal behavior that played on racial fears and anxieties and helped push their agenda, whether it be
increased incarceration or simply winning elections.
Valocchi seems dismissive of the ability of these methods to perform queer analysis. As he points out,
Quantitative, variable based methodologies, by contrast, assume that the indicators used to measure
social processes do indeed capture something real and objective (2005:767). He implies that non
ethnographic methods have built in assumptions that their classification systems perfectly portray
practices and motivations of those within those systems. What he fails to consider is that these
methods can be used for the very purpose of highlighting these inconsistencies. The dominant

grow more excited as I realized my cake was correctly fulfilling the criteria provided by the fair such
as having a slight bounce when gently pressed. Finally, I arrived at the exhibit hall where I would turn

beginning to be filled with sewing projects, homemade preserves, and other baked goods. I had only
felt excited as I handed over my chocolate pound cake and wondered how I would

Hepatitis C (HCV)
Hepatitis C (HCV), a single stranded RNA virus from the family Flaviviridae, now accounts for more
disease and death that does human immunodeficiency virus HIV/AIDS. Approximately 3 million
individuals within the United States are currently suffering from what was once and unknown and
untreatable virus. Non A and non B hepatitis are two forms of the virus that were prevalent back in the
1970 s. It was commonly acquired via blood transfusion as well as through hemodialysis methods of
renal failure patients (Klevens et al., 2012). Today, the most common means of transmission are
through intravenous drug use, needle stick injuries in a health care setting, and transmission from
mother to fetus during birth (Center for Disease Control and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The liver is involved in many functions of the body which are important for survival. It is the main
filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of
glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products such as
bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid hemoglobin from the
body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin metabolism. The heme component
of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes. It is then bound to albumin and
transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl diphosphate glucoronyl transferase
converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can be excreted into the intestines. If the
hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be
excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds up, the skin turn to a yellowish color
called jaundice. This usually happens during the later stages of hepatitis (Sunheimer Graves, 2011).
There are two phases of hepatitis C; acute and chronic. After exposure of HCV, 85 90% of both types
of hepatitis are usually asymptomatic but symptoms can occur during the acute phase following a 2 12
week incubation period. In cases of acute hepatitis, symptoms consist of fatigue,

Mark Twain Conclusion
Mark Twain
Let us endeavour so to live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.
― Mark Twain
Mark Twain was an influential writer, who not only wrote books with a sense of humour, but also with
an intellect like no one else. He wrote many books, of which The Adventure of Tom Sawyer and its
sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn have become timeless classics. This essay will give a
description of Mark Twain s life, his written literature and what his work has done for the literary
world.
When Mark Twain was born in 1835, he got the name Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Around 1863 he
later legally changed his name to Mark Twain, when he worked as a riverboat pilot. In his childhood,
Mark Twain grew up in Hannibal, along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mark Twain always came up with quotes from his books, and because of an intense curiosity I started
reading his two classics. These books made me feel a variation of emotions, such as happiness and
acute desire to learn history and many more. He had an abrupt way of telling things as they were, and
a lot of people, including me, were and are drawn to his stories because they do not refine people or
society. His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions his
characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit these emotions that goes
to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper is one of the many reasons why he is an
author that almost everybody knows of. He has not only opened many people s eyes, but also
motivated great authors, such as Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create
characters that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it
teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The Adventure of Tom
Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s perspective.
To conclude, Mark Twain is still relevant today and he teaches people the importance of empathy, but
also gives an insight to how unjust the society was before. He has written many great things, a lot of
them based on humour, such as The Adventures of

Positive Aspects Compared to the Negative Aspects of the...
The era known as the Industrial Revolution was a period in which fundamental changes occurred in
agriculture, textile and metal manufacture, transportation, economic policies and the social structure in
England. It is almost impossible to imagine what the world would be like if the effects of the
Industrial Revolution were swept away. Electric lights would go out. Automobiles and airplanes would
vanish. Telephones, radios, and television would disappear. Most of the stocks on the shelves of
department stores would be gone. Over the course of a century, Britain went from a largely rural,
agrarian population to a country of industrialized towns, factories, mines and workshops. Britain was,
in fact, already beginning to develop a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Great Britain grew to become the most powerful manufacturing nation, and the strongest
economically, in all of Europe. As Britain s finances grew and increased, citizens were able to move
up the social ladder in society, improving their financial and educational status. To begin with,
technological innovations, rising 3 productivity, and innovations in design and quality also made
British manufactures cheaper and more appealing in export markets. British exports to Europe and the
Americas rose dramatically and this in turn helped to pay for imports of food and raw materials which
Britain did not possess. These were vital for sustaining their industrial economy. Even though
education in the early 19th century was not compulsory and in most cases expensive, more and more
children received the opportunity to go to school. This was due to higher paying jobs becoming more
available for the average worker, meaning they could afford an education for their children.
Furthermore, another positive aspect of the revolution was that life expectancy increased drastically.
Medicine made great advancements; during the early 19th century scientists believed that disease
spontaneously grew from non living matter. In a series of experiments between 1857 and 1863, Louis
Pasteur, a French chemist and microbiologist proved this was not true but instead disease originated
from microscopic organisms. Once doctors knew

In addition, The Annual Report (2009) for TUI Travel Plc also set out the main reasons for the

deliver the synergy benefits; 2) A working capital outflow driven by capacity reductions and the later
booking curve; 3) Acquisitions made in the year; and an adverse impact arising on the translation of

Value based pricing

can a price be before the product or service is priced out of the market? To understand the customer s
perception of the value of your product or service, look at more subjective criteria such as customer
preferences, product benefits, convenience, product quality, company image and alternative products
offered by the competition. * How do your customers describe what they get for their money? * Do
they save a great deal of money or time by purchasing your product or service? * Do they gain a

1. What type of market are you in? Only retailers that offer similar products and are in competitive
markets are forced to make this discounting strategy choice. For example, pricing is a key
differentiator of retailers selling homogenous products price is important in a market where two
similar grocery stores, located a mile or two apart, sell the same products. Retailers in this market
environment have to adopt an EDLP or Hi Lo pricing strategy. In contrast, Whole Foods (or as my
sister prefers to call it, Whole Paycheck ) offers a differentiated product (natural and organic foods).
And while Whole Foods runs occasional specials, discounting is not a primary component of its retail
strategy. 2. Are your customers price sensitive? Convenience stores like 7 Eleven, even those located
close to discount grocery stores (selling the same products at a significant discount), often cater to less
price sensitive customers. If your customers are not price sensitive, there s less of a need to adopt an
EDLP or Hi Lo pricing strategy. 3. Do you have a cost advantage? If you are going with an EDLP
strategy, it d be helpful to posses a cost advantage. There should be a measurable difference between
your EDLP price and a Hi Lo retailer s Hi price. Wal Mart is a classic example of a retailer with lower
costs relative to its competitors. 4. Who are your customers? Are your

hallway, I heard Kamryn scream in the distance something religious about his lord. His scream was
interrupted half threw leaving me with the knot in my stomach a reason to grow larger. Jake and I
found an old room with maps in it and settled in the corner clutching each other. Jake, you have to
take deep breaths. They are going to find and kill us if you continue. Breathe with me. Inhale. I
inhaled dramatically with him. Now exhale. Then Inhale. His breathing finally evened out, so I looked
over at him laying on my shoulder while squeezing his eyes tightly closed. In that moment, I saw the
shadow of someone passing the door. I held my breathe in fear. Then I heard a voice. They escaped.
No one is back here. What do we do? Then lets go. We will take the other three with us. In this
moment, I would be forever grateful that I survived this attack (International Relations in Action).
Comparison: Tundristan is more closely compared to the country of Afghanistan. This is true because

Compare And Contrast The New Deal And Populism
The late 19th century and early 20th century was a time of great change and reform for America.
People felt disadvantaged and unequal, causing reform groups to form and government policies to be
instated. These are known as Populism, Progressivism, and the New Deal. Although they are similar in
some ways, they are also different. Populism, or the People s Party, was formed for many economic
reasons. Most of the agrarian society felt as if they were not equal to bigger industries (Brinkley 449
451). Railroad services charged small farmers more for shipping rates and bigger industries less. The
farmers claimed that railroad services fixed their rates because they would cut deals with the bigger
businesses. Populists also wanted a reform of currency (455). They wanted to do so in a way that
would raise crops and farm products, so they could get more money and would be able to alleviate
their debt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People thought that they were destined and supposed to make advances and progress with society
(477). Progressivists were mainly middle class Americans, experts, and women. They pushed for
honest and responsive government, an efficient economy and government, and protection to the
vulnerable. Progressivists are known to have instated a new boldness and confidence for the American
people and wanted to be the best they could be. They were also concerned with poor people. They
wanted to ease poor living conditions and protect them and help them. Women played a huge role in
progressive reform. The Progressive Era was the time of one of the largest movements in American
history, women s suffrage (483). During this time, women pushed for equal rights as men, especially
the right to vote. Women slowly started to gain ground in the movement and finally gained the right to
vote in 1920 when the 19th amendment was

Sonoran Desert Research Paper
In class, we have been studying snakes in the Sonoran desert. While learning about snakes we found
four that look very identical having the same stripes, a reddish orangish color, black and white skin.
They have a similar pattern of stripes. We decided to find out why would snakes like these would live
in the Sonoran desert. The guiding question was, Why do the Sonoran coral snake, the Sonoran
Mountain kingsnake, the milk snake and the Sonoran shovel nosed snake look similar? Before
answering the guiding question evidence needed to be collected. We confirmed that all the snakes are
not from the same species, which means that their similarities don t have to do with heredity. We also
confirmed that their predators, the Ferruginous hawk, cooper s hawk, and red tailed hawk are in fact
the same, and surprisingly compared to other snakes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why the snakes that stand out in the desert are eaten less than the other snakes in the Sonoran
Desert, We know that the Sonora coral snake uses aposematic coloration, which is having a coloring
or a marking that warns predators to tell its predators that is poisonous and we can assume that the
other snakes use batesian mimicry, which is when an animal resembles a poisonous one to trick its
predators, but how do they look the same? This is a process called natural selection. Natural selection
is when an organism naturally lets go of a trait that is useless for instance, penguins lost their feathery
wings because they don t require it to survive like all the other birds since they live in antarctica
meaning there are no predators to fly away from. This is the same process the Sonoran Mountain
kingsnake, the milk snake and the Sonoran shovel nosed snake use, over time they naturally changed
skin color by letting go of their color to look the same as the sonoran coral

Essay On Flood In Maryland
The first hazard that residents of Maryland are exposed to during a hurricane are floods. Floods can
become very dangerous in a coastal community that is already close to sea level. With a flood
becomes floodwater. Floodwater can seriously disrupt the personal transportation by cutting off the
roads in any area. With flooding, becomes standing water or wet materials within a structure. Standing
water or wet materials cause bacteria, mold, and viruses that can cause disease, which can trigger
allergic reactions, and continue to damage materials long after a flood has occurred. Severe floods not
only ruin homes or local businesses and destroy personal property, but the water left behind can cause
further damage to property and its contents. The environment and wildlife are also at risk with floods,
when damage occurs to homes or businesses, it can also cause the accidental release of toxic materials
like paints, pesticides, or gasoline. When flooding occurs and ... Show more content on

Storm surge is an abnormal rise of water generated from a hurricane, over and above the predicted
tide. Most storm surges are caused from the strong winds of a hurricane or tropical storm. Storm
surges cause an abundant amount of flooding with no means of lowering until the winds and tides are
back to normal. A hurricane can produce destructive storm surge, which is water that is pushed toward
the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm. This advancing surge combines with the
normal tides to create the hurricane storm tide, which can increase the mean water level 15 feet or
more. According to the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC), Maryland has been
subject to its share of major flooding events from the first recorded flood on May 11, 1860 in
Baltimore City along Jones Falls to the devastating floods caused by the tidal surge of Hurricane
Isabel in mid September 2003. (Joyce

  • 2. The Effectiveness of the International Criminal Court Essay There is a close relationship between human rights and criminal law. The scope of my paper will surround human rights and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in addition to human rights and international crimes. International criminal justice in this context speaks to those interested in prosecuting against the background of international human rights and humanitarian norms. The use of criminal law has many positive effects and pursues many goals that are worth considering. For example, deterrence, accountability and punishment are important principles that will be discussed in the context of human rights. Is the International Criminal Court an effective method to promote and protect human rights internationally? If so, why and how? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support my argument, I will first discuss the evolution of international criminal justice and the ICC. Then I will address my three subsidiary arguments. First, I will argue that the International Criminal Court is effective because it increases accountability of human rights violators. Secondly, I will argue that the existence and use of the court increases disapproval and deterrence which protects human rights making the ICC effective. Third, I will argue that the International Criminal Court is effective because it allows for a universal standard of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour as well as transcends and empowers national jurisdictions. Finally, I will address the counter argument and conclude. The Evolution of International Criminal Justice and the ICC The evolution of international criminal justice is important to consider. Two ad hoc tribunals, the International Criminal Tribunal of Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda (ICTR), have facilitated the adoption of the ICC. The ICC came into existence on July 1, 2002. The court operates on the principle of complementarity which means that the court does not function unless a state in question is unable or unwilling to investigate and, if warranted, prosecute for one of the covered crimes. Whereas the ICTY and the ICTR had primary jurisdiction and could supersede state action, the ICC only has the aforementioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lipe Robert C. Lipe is an Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma. INTRODUCTION The Group of Four Plus One, or G4+1 for short, is a cooperative effort by national accounting standard setters from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States plus the International Accounting Standards Committee. Conclusions reached by the G4+1 are not recognized as GAAP in any financial reporting jurisdiction. Lessee Accounting Research: An Analysis of Three Decision Contexts The members of G4+1 agree that the purpose of financial reporting is to provide information for making economic decisions. Empirical research incorporates this view by identifying and estimating linkages between accounting information and actions taken by decision makers. In my discussion of research on lessee accounting, I decompose the research into three decision contexts financial statement analysis of equity risk, financial statement analysis of equity value, and decisions/actions by management. Research Related to the Risk of the Lessee s Equity Most empirical research on lessee accounting is based on financial statement analysis as the decision context, with particular emphasis on how unrecorded lease commitments might affect assessments of shareholder risk. Possible reasons for this emphasis are: 1. finance theory links debt like obligations to risk; 2. unrecorded leases are large for some companies; 3 and 3. mandated disclosures facilitate estimation of the unrecorded obligations. 4 The finance literature linking shareholder risk to leverage includes Modigliani and Miller (1958), Hamada (1969), Rubenstein (1973), Bowman (1979), and Christie (1982). 5 2 Prior to SFAS No. 13, guidance came from APB No. 5 (Accounting Principles Board 1964), ASR No. 147 (SEC 1973), and APB 31 (APB 1973). • 5. Data Structure Of Using Hash Table Overview: Hashing in terms of encryption is the conversion of a word into a usually fixed length value or key that represents the original word. Hashing is used to index and retrieve items in a database because it is faster to find the item using the shorter hashed key than to find it using the original value. It basically uses a hash function to convert the word into the key. Hash function is one that is used to map data of random size to data of fixed size. Values that are returned from a hash function are called as hash values, hash codes, or hash sums. It mainly uses hash table as a data structure to look up data rapidly. There will be no two words with same hash value, otherwise collision occurs between the two words. In software programming, a hash table or hash map is a data structure that is used to execute an array i.e. it is a structure that can map keys to values. A hash function is used to determine an index value for an array of buckets or slots, with which we can find the correct value. A good hash function with an algorithm are essential for good performance of the hash table though it can be difficult to achieve. A basic requirement of a hash function is that it should provide distribution of hash values uniformly. If the distribution is non uniform, it increases the number of collisions and the cost of resolving them. Uniformity can be evaluated by observing statistical tests. If for example there exists uniform distribution only for table sizes that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Watergate Scandal Of The United States Negligent Nixon: The Watergate Scandal The President of the United States is one of the most coveted, but difficult positions to obtain in the world. Every four years a new leader is elected to uphold the supreme laws of the land that make up our constitution. The president is sworn into office on their inaugural day in January where they are sworn to faithfully execute and support all laws in the constitution, delegate international matters, and be an advocate for the people. As the new leader of the United States of America and, the free world as a whole, the President of the United States has many roles and functions, including: Commander in Chief, Chief Diplomat, Chief Legislator, Chief Magistrate, Chief Executive, Party Leader, Chief of State, Foreign Policy Director, and Popular Leader. The President of the United States is one of the most powerful people in the world, and therefore the people place an immense amount of trust in them. The people want someone they can trust because they are who will represent the entire country. When an elected President does not uphold or stay true to their duties it can cause uproar within society. If a president acts in a way that smears their reputation it is very difficult for them to regain the trust and support of the citizens. For many, a strong bond is now broken and cannot be repaired. There have been few presidents who have broken bonds with the American people, in particular: Richard Nixon. Nixon s involvement in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Did the Election of 1828 Represent a Democratic Revolt of... Did the Election of 1828 Represent a Democratic Revolt of the People? Despite the outcome I fully believe that the election of 1828 did in fact, create a democratic revolt of the people because of the social and political backlash that the election created. The election of Andrew Jackson as President in 1828 marked the beginning of an era known as Jacksonian Democracy or the Age of the Common Man. The changes in politics during Jackson s presidency provided various social and economic changes. Actually, political change began several years before Jackson became president. In the Election of 1824, Jackson had the most popular and electoral votes, but did not win the election. Because the vote was split four ways, he did not have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, voters and politicians now nominated candidates, rather than the political party leaders in Congress. This and other events led to a more democratic society. Jackson also gave government jobs to regular people. This was called the spoils system. He appointed people to federal jobs depending on whether they had campaigned for the Democratic Party. Anyone currently in office who was not a democratic was replaced with a democrat. This was called the spoils system because it promoted a corrupt government. He also believed in rotation in office. He wanted to make it possible for more democrats to have government jobs, so he limited a person s time in office to one term. The spoils system showed how one man was no better than another and helped build a strong two party system. In the two party system, supporters of Jackson were Democrats and supporters of his rival, Henry Clay, were the Whigs. The Democratic Party resembled the old Republican party of Jefferson, while the Whigs represented the Federalist party of Hamilton. Jackson was similar to Jefferson because he opposed increasing federal spending and the national bank. He vetoed 12 bills, which was more than the total of all 6 presidents before him. One of the things he vetoed was the use of federal money to make the Maysville Road, because it was entirely in one state. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Over The Hedge The author of Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation, Judith Halberstam, uses rhetorical strategies to speak to her point that animated movies can be used to reach a wide ranging audience to convey deep underlying messages in a way that is entertaining for all. The author points out how Pixar movies brings non traditional characters to life and faces them against real life struggles but does so in a happy ending manor that captivates audiences. This is accomplished by the author introducing a plot line from a Pixar movie that illustrates a struggle or classic battle and then describes the characters that are in the struggle and how they live through it. The author then describes an actual real life struggle and relates it back to the animated movie. Judith Halberstam points out that the movie Chicken Run illustrates how aggressive industrial businesses maximize profits above anything else or businesses that have a partnership between owners and workers to maximize profits. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the war the Ordinance Bureau had decided to begin evaluating breech loading carbines for the cavalry. Ripley opposed breech loaders or repeating rifles for infantry use. There was a belief that they would waste ammunition, and were expensive. His main complaint was that the production of these weapons would curtail production of carbines. He saw the inherent advantage of the breechloader for mounted service. It was far simpler to reload from horseback than a muzzle loading arm. Because of this there many options for domestic carbines at the start of the war. The Sharps carbine was the weapon that the North wanted. The Sharps Company would produce over eighty thousand carbines during the war. But these were not enough. In response to the demand for carbines various other arms of good quality such as the Smith and Burnside were acquired. Some others of lesser quality such as the Cosmopolitan and Maynard were also purchased at this time. Carbine production was centered in Massachusetts also. The streets started to run rampant with crime, and bootleggers rose to power as organized raised as well. As organized crime rose so did the Mafiosas. Throughout the 20th century the mafia has controlled the organized crime scene with an unwavering fist only for its rule to be challenged by other families. Alphonse Capone is perhaps one of the most notorious gangsters of all time being remembered in infamy as a very successful businessman and a stone cold killer. Before Capone would become a mob boss he lived in a run down part of New York city. Capone went to a Catholic school, where he showed academic promise, but due to the violent nature of Catholic school Capone was expelled from school at the age of fourteen for assaulting a female teacher (A E Television Networks). After that incident the young Capone picked up odd jobs until he met the gangster Johnny Torrio. Lawrence Ferlinghetti is often regarded as one of the most influential American poets of the 20th century, and his writing covers a wide range of social topics regarding the status of American culture during the 1950s and 60s. Many of Ferlinghetti s works focus on his vision of America and how that vision had not come to fruition because of the less than ideal situations surrounding American culture at the time. Consequently, Ferlinghetti was also an avid member of the Beat generation and used his ability to write as a platform for spreading the message of the Beatniks. Stretch him on the Tree to cool/ And everybody after that/ is always making models/ of this tree/ with Him hung up/ and always crooning His name (15 16). This quote shows that the American people are often able to speak romantically of Jesus and adore Him with their words, but come up short with their actions, as they put Him on the Cross by denying their faith in Him. As we have discussed in class, this is a reference to the biblical figure, Peter, who denied Jesus three times just before the crucifixion of Jesus. Ferlinghetti is writing this piece to show that the American people have turned into Peter, as we want ourselves and others to believe that we are devout believers in Christ, but our faith crumbles and our knowledge of Christ crumbles at the slightest provocation. Also, as we have discussed in class, the poem is unorganized and does not seem to have a consistent pattern or verse, as well as many references to jazz. The cingulate gyrus is a component of the limbic system and is involved in the processing emotions, behavior and regulation of autonomic motor functioning. So because of that, the goal of the surgery is to stop the anterior cingulate gyrus from its activity in the patient, which in theory will be able to allow the patient to function normally again. As I entered the doors of the TD Arena, I felt love, grace, and forgiveness. I heard honor from such a pleasant and honorable man. I heard praises from the citizens of the Holy City and my favorite; the eulogy given that spake of race, a need for gun control, and the controversy of the confederate flag. It was the most touching when Obama lead everyone in attendance in the singing of Amazing Grace. The entire multi purpose arena holding over 5,000 persons were completely filled. Starr Carter lives in Garden Heights, a neighborhood filled with gangs, when one of her best friends Khalil is shot by the police, she is quick to know he had been killed because of the racism that exists in our world. Throughout the novel, Starr is constantly trying to show the world why Khalil died in order to get justice for his death. She does not believe he deserved to die or the cop who shot Khalil deserves to walk free of the crime he committed. Through different characters, the author is able to convey the message of one should not form opinions on someone or something based on stereotypes. Throughout the novel, some characters struggle with judging people before they know their past. Angie Thomas is able to get this across to readers not only through Starr, but also characters such as her father Maverick, her friends from school, and even Officer Cruise, the officer who killed Khalil. Stereotypes in the novel are one of the main causes for Khalil s death. The officer had killed Khalil because he had automatically assumed Khalil was a threat to him. Officer Cruise treated both Khalil and Starr with disrespect at the time of the arrest because they are African American. When Khalil began to move in order to ask Starr if she was okay, the Officer assumed he was reaching for a weapon because he had already formed an opinion about Khalil based on his skin color even ... When the core of the star has burnt out and turned into iron, energy is no longer being produced and the core of the star condenses very quickly. This compacts all of the protons (+) and electrons ( ) creating neutrons (o) and neutrinos which are particles that do not carry a charge but are similar to electrons. Yes, this is probably where the name Neutron Star came from. During the condensing of the star s core, the neutrinos are able to escape, but the neutrons are squished together so much that their density is the same of an atomic nucleus density. A violent explosion happens during this process and its called a supernova . To put this into perspective, imagine taking something the size of our sun, if not bigger, and compacting it into an area the size of a city. When watching the whole video, the gust of winds gave a sign that something bad or creepy was going to unfold. The gust of winds sounded after he mentioned his mother that supported him. It has been claimed that experience plays a crucial role in the development of face processing (Kelly, Quinn, Slater, Lee, Ge Pascalis, 2007, p.1084). To what extent is experience necessary for face processing? Support your argument with empirical evidence. There is much debate on the subject of experience in regards to face processing. Some say that experience is wholly important in face processing while others say that face processing is innate and will develop without experience. It has been argued both that face processing is a perceptual process organized at birth and that it originates in a more general process that becomes specialized due to experience of different faces (Sugita, 2009). Deprived patients distinguished faces from the featural set normally, but were significantly impaired for the configural set. These results indicate experience is indeed necessary for the normal development of face processing; specifically configural processing of faces. They also suggest that when visual input is delayed by only two months, there are permanent deficits (Le Grand et al., 2001). It has been hypothesized that there may be a critical/sensitive period for certain aspects of face processing to develop. Inferences from several data imply that there is a sensitive period and that it is between the first 6 to 12 months of life (Mancini et al., 1994). Nelson (2001) proposes that regions within the brain have the potential to become specialized for face processing and then when the face perception apparatus becomes tuned by exposure to faces, this specification includes: recognizing gender, age and emotional information. Sugita (2009) also suggests that there is a sensitive period for face perception; as selective experiences significantly affect later development of face processing. My Beloved Shelbie By Jane Austen To My Beloved Shelbie, At first, I wanted to write you a love letter describing how I feel about you, and what you mean to me, but I believe it is better if in addition to describing my feelings that I clear up all our miscommunications as best I can. Please understand that we see some things differently, an example being when you felt that I expected something out of you that was likely my fault for not doing my best to communicate my feelings but I never want you to feel like I demand something from you or that you owe me something, because you don t, and I would be the first to tell you to not tolerate that from anyone. • 35. WWII and the Road to Midway Essay World War Two came to America on December 7th, 1941. The focus on America s involvement in the war generally focuses on the European front. What must be remembered is the time and sacrifices made in the Pacific theatre. America s entry into the war on the Pacific was not an immediate success. It took American forces until the summer of 1942 at the Battle of Midway to become properly prepared for the war. The American military learned much from their losses both through the strengths of the Japanese forces and America s own faults. After these losses were realized, changes were made within the military. These improvements allowed the American forces to turn the war back and begin to have successes in the Pacific. Pearl Harbour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another aspect of the Japanese success was powerful and effective tactics. Tactics include the training of the Japanese soldiers and their objectives in battle. Japanese soldiers were trained to die honourable to fight to the death and never be taken prisoner3. Training the soldiers to fight this way was not only traditionally Japanese, but it inspired them to continue fighting beyond what would be seen as a reasonable time. This sincere dedication to defending their people and Emperor (the cause of this training) allowed the Japanese soldiers to be effective killers even when faced with undeniable defeat4. Beyond their training, the Japanese had other advantages in their battle objectives. The use of radar was essential to the Americans, and so the Japanese were often ordered to target the radar stations on islands before beginning full assaults5. Targeting the radar stations prevented the Americans from properly estimating the Japanese forces or from knowing where they were headed. The final tactical advantage the Japanese had was that their air force consisted of small experienced squads especially for important missions6. Having been involved in a number of minor wars in east Asia in the 1930s, Japanese forces were far more experienced; this lead to a much greater effectiveness than the inexperienced Americans. Technologically, Japan was also ahead of America at the outset of the war. This, partially, is due to experience and having been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. War Of 1812 Facts A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left handed slapdash manner on both sides. This war probably America s most unknown war. Although the war has been written and talked a lot about, most Americans are only slightly aware of why we fought and who our enemy was. Just take a second and realize that the year of 1812 was not just another year, it was the year one country was so angry and enraged, they declared war on another country. Considering the War of 1812 was mainly a chaos of naval activity, imagine cannons blasting into ships shredding it into pieces! Screaming and yelling to position their ships in the most perfect way so they can get the most devastating blow to the other wooden block of gunpowder and explosives. Tired, worn down sailors getting captured and taken under imprisonment, all of this nonsense because a country doesn t get their way. The War of 1812 was between Great Britain, North American Colonies, Native Americans and the U.S. The war started in the old timey days where they rode their horses and had to fight off indians, or scavengers just to get to a town. Do you take the U.S side that was just trying to be neutral and help both countries, or do you take the British side, the countries that wanted all the advantage on France just to win a country. Should the moral of the War of 1812 be that just let people be and choose your own battles, or should it be take no mercy and and rise to the top? • 38. Historical Analysis, Discourse, And Frame Analysis By using a mixed set of methodological methods that includes statistical analysis, historical analysis, discourse analysis, and frame analysis techniques, Beckett is able to paint a broad picture of her argument. Her use of polls and surveys demonstrates that the traditional link between public opinion and the tough on crime policies that led to mass incarceration is problematic. Her historical analysis traces the historical development of these policies highlighting the various players and actors operating and struggling for power. Finally, her discourse and frame analysis demonstrates the ways in which elites were able to utilize mass media to create a specific frame and discourse surrounding criminal behavior that played on racial fears and anxieties and helped push their agenda, whether it be increased incarceration or simply winning elections. Valocchi seems dismissive of the ability of these methods to perform queer analysis. As he points out, Quantitative, variable based methodologies, by contrast, assume that the indicators used to measure social processes do indeed capture something real and objective (2005:767). He implies that non ethnographic methods have built in assumptions that their classification systems perfectly portray practices and motivations of those within those systems. What he fails to consider is that these methods can be used for the very purpose of highlighting these inconsistencies. The dominant ideology of criminal justice is that crime ... These cookies have always been a signature dish of my mother s and they are delicious. A couple of years later I remember baking an apple crisp by myself while my mom was making dinner but close at hand just in case I needed help. From these early days of baking, I learned to follow a recipe with ease and bake almost anything I wanted to that our home kitchen and kitchen aid mixer could handle. One story that truly demonstrates my ability to bake is the one I will be recounting in this narrative. Because I have baked all my life I am literate when it comes to baking. For many years both my sister and I have entered exhibits in the Dixie Classic Fair. 2015 in particular is a year that stands out because of the pride I felt in my entry. It is the main filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products such as bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid hemoglobin from the body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin metabolism. The heme component of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes. It is then bound to albumin and transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl diphosphate glucoronyl transferase converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can be excreted into the intestines. If the hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds up, the skin turn to a yellowish color called jaundice. This usually happens during the later stages of hepatitis (Sunheimer Graves, 2011). His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. He has not only opened many people s eyes, but also motivated great authors, such as Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create characters that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The Adventure of Tom Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s perspective. As Britain s finances grew and increased, citizens were able to move up the social ladder in society, improving their financial and educational status. To begin with, technological innovations, rising 3 productivity, and innovations in design and quality also made British manufactures cheaper and more appealing in export markets. British exports to Europe and the Americas rose dramatically and this in turn helped to pay for imports of food and raw materials which Britain did not possess. These were vital for sustaining their industrial economy. Even though education in the early 19th century was not compulsory and in most cases expensive, more and more children received the opportunity to go to school. This was due to higher paying jobs becoming more available for the average worker, meaning they could afford an education for their children. Furthermore, another positive aspect of the revolution was that life expectancy increased drastically. Medicine made great advancements; during the early 19th century scientists believed that disease spontaneously grew from non living matter. People felt disadvantaged and unequal, causing reform groups to form and government policies to be instated. These are known as Populism, Progressivism, and the New Deal. Although they are similar in some ways, they are also different. Populism, or the People s Party, was formed for many economic reasons. Most of the agrarian society felt as if they were not equal to bigger industries (Brinkley 449 451). Railroad services charged small farmers more for shipping rates and bigger industries less. The farmers claimed that railroad services fixed their rates because they would cut deals with the bigger businesses. Populists also wanted a reform of currency (455).
