The Decade Long War
Mark Atwood Lawrence s study, The Vietnam War: A Concise International History, is about the
changing of the French Indochina conflict to America s involvement in the war from 1954 to 1975.
This book also went through each President of the United States that had to deal with the Vietnam
War starting with Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon,
to Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The different sources Lawrence used in The Vietnam
War: A
Concise International History helps bolster the argument for what Vietnamese peasants, Presidents,
and American soldiers had to go through during this conflict on the 17th parallel. Sources used
included photographs from different places including Texas Tech University,

It does not come out and say where the two main places, Hanoi and Saigon, are actually located.
Lawrence often refers to them as those names throughout his study and never puts a North or South
Vietnam with it for clarification. Although, Lawrence does include a map of Vietnam and the
surrounding territories on page 12, a reader could be lost on who is who by this point in the
book. Another point that readers could get mildly confused on is when Lawrence refers to
Vietnam as different names. For example, over time, they hoped, aggressive search and destroy
operations would inflict casualties more quickly than North Vietnam and the NLF could replace
their losses, thus forcing the communists to seek peace on American terms, (Lawrence, 102).
Lawrence never explained the NLF, National Liberation Front, and what it means or whom it
represents. Lawrence also used Vietcong regularly throughout his study. For instance, Vietcong, a
contraction of the term for Vietnamese communist, Lawrence does not really explain why he calls
it Vietcong throughout the book (Lawrence, 65). Lawrence could have explained whom this term
was more directly used for or why it was used to explain these people. Lawrence s study reveals a
lot about the Vietnam War and the role of the United States in Southeast Asia from 1954 to 1975,
including the Second Indochina War (Lawrence, 65),

Asean Essay
The Quest for ASEAN Economic Community through Consensus Building
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) began on August 8, 1967, when Indonesia,
Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, settled their differences and decided to form the
group due to the prevailing geopolitical conditions. Fresh from the debilitating effects of historical
antagonism brought upon by territorial disputes drawn by colonial division, the power vacuum left
by decolonization is quickly replaced by Cold War polarization. The need to stay neutral and
insulate them from big power rivalry becomes a necessity for the newly independent states who
have grown tired of foreign domination and intervention and just wants to live in harmony and
prosperity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This landmark agreement defined the group s development and organizational initiatives from its
inception until its current ten member states configuration. ASEAN adopted the principles of
consensus decision making and flexibility, which is an indirect pledge of non aggression and
good faith. Since then, ASEAN s negotiations were carried out on the basis of accommodating
every member state s position as much as possible. There is always the use of constant
consultations and discussions until a viable consensus is reached. This seems to have worked to
bolster relations internally and somehow preserve each participant s sovereignty. It was also during
this time that ASEAN declared the group s pursuit of political stability and economic prosperity
through the ASEAN Concord. It was supported by establishing a secretariat to further consolidate
its achievements and expand cooperation in economic, social, cultural and political fields.
Asian Financial Crisis
In 1997, the group was suddenly faced by a financial crisis which brought down the economic gains
of each member state at that time to catastrophic levels, especially Indonesia and Thailand. The
group responded by pursuing an integrated economic policy and made the historic decision of
transforming the region into a single market and

Outliers The Story Of Success By Malcolm Gladwell
One can say that being successful is based on your actions and how you prepare for the future. In
Outliers: The Story of Success , written by Malcom Gladwell, he stated that many factors come
into play regarding the success of an individual. In regards to Mike Honda, He was a
congressman from, California and spent his early years in a Japanese internment camp. Whether if
the person was talented or not, Gladwell made intelligent observations when thinking about
successfulness. I completely agree with Gladwell on most of the points that he made and I believe
that if most of the guidelines such as the 10,000 hour rule, advantageous era of birth etc... are
followed, then one will have the opportunity to be successful. But not all of what Gladwell stated
like the Matthew Effect (Wright P, 2003), are needed to become successful.
Throughout the book, Gladwell talks about how culture family and ones upbringing can determine
ones success in the future. In the introduction of the book, Gladwell states, It s not enough to ask

Cultural Wars In America
Prevalence of cultural wars has been in societies having individuals who have different beliefs,
cultural settings and more specifically a way of life. American society at the moment has
experienced a lot of cultural wars, as seen in recent disputes over certain issues such as marriage of
the same sex and abortion. To have a good explanation to the aliens, it is necessary to understand
historical aspect and give an assessment of how the differences came about together with their
effect on the perception of significant national issues. For United Kingdom and United States, it has
been traced that cultural wars is due to different views of traditionalists and liberalists. Basically

intellectual support, leaders of these churches were great speakers and they delivered a lot of
inspiration to the struggle of civil rights. Black churches also played a critical role in bringing
together many of those who supported the movement (Corbett 242). It is evident that Christianity
contributed heavily to fighting for freedom in the era of Civil Rights Movement. During the time,
there was freedom of religion in United States and this formed the basis of seeking for

Florence is home to many wonderful painters and artists during the renaissance. The one who did
the ceiling of the cathedral that is shown is Giorgio Vasari. he was a renaissance painter, architect,
and author. This artifact shows how extravagant they had gotten with their art, using perspective,
shading and the influences of humanism to paint. This shows the true art of this time period.
Why was Florence important?
Florence is arguably the starting place of the renaissance. With many different artists there, the
Medici Family in control and a very strong trading system, it was a very powerful city state during
the renaissance. During this time, the feudal system was no more. The people in ... Show more

Wittenberg is the town that the reformation started in. This is where the catholic church was that
Martin Luther nailed the these on the door to. With that, many people became Lutheran in this city
and the catholic church did not like that. A lot of the reformation took place here because it was the
starting point.
This artifact is in Libon. This statue is dedicated to Henry the Navigator. He sent a lot of people
to go discover parts of the new world. Because of Henry the Navigator, Portugal conquered Brazil.
He was very important to Portugal and the exploration era.
Why was Lisbon Important?
Lisbon is the main area that Henry the Navigator sent out his ships to discover the new world.
This became a very popular trading depot because of its location and finding new things during
exploration. This was a place where the Colombian Exchange happened, especially with what is
now Brazil. This is also where Ferdinand Magellan set off to sail completely around the earth.
The Lamentation by Scorpion Pulzone shows exactly what Rome was like during the counter
reformation. This painting shows how the catholic church wanted the art to look. They wanted all
art to be focused on Jesus Christ and his Resurrection. During the counter reformation, the Catholic
Church tried to bring all the attention back onto God. They wanted God to be the main focus, as
seen in this painting, not anything

Developing A Plan For Career Success
Creating Your Career Plan
Developing a plan for career success can be described as journey of self discovery. Many leaders
have taken time to understand in depth their leadership skills by consistently refining skill sets but
also always looking to better one self. To achieve our goals in leadership, one must develop one s
skills and construct a career plan to guide them to their goals. In the class Applying Leadership
Principles, we have taken time to learn about what defines a leader and how that applies to each
of us in the class. Today I will be using the skills learned over the last eight weeks to develop a
career plan. I will start by using the career center as a beginning resource to evaluate my career
path, reflect on my personal career and where I would like to be in the future, identify strengths,
and align those strengths with communication skills and problem solving skills. I will describe
my career path; develop my plan of what leadership approach I believe will help me achieve those
goals.
Using the Career Center
Online learning has proven to a be a preferred method of learning for many adult learners as it
offers the ability to finish a degree meanwhile maintaining a career, a family, and other obligations
outside of the classroom. The benefits include allowing a student to log into a classroom when it is
convenient and accelerated schedules with less classes at a time than the traditional brick and
mortar classes. One benefit however that is not as utilized

Canine Bone Development And Developmental Diseases
Canine bone development and developmental bone diseases are of growing interest to researchers
and consumers. In order to produce healthier canines and to reduce the incidence of diseases
commonly found in canines, it is important to understand what bone development is and how it
occurs, factors that influence bonedevelopment, and developmental diseases. Development can be
defined as a series of changes that takes place in an animal beginning in the embryonic state and
lasting until maturity. These changes lead to a more complex organizational state of the body,
starting with simple cellular organization and leading to formation of body systems.
Ossification Mechanisms
Intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification are the types of bone development
that occur during fetal development. Intramembranous ossification is the formation of flat bones
(i.e, cranial bones). The first stage of this type of ossification is the formation of an ossification
center in the fibrous connective tissue membrane. The ossification center is formed by
mesenchymal cells differentiating into osteoblasts. The osteoblasts then secrete osteoid into the
fibrous membrane and is subsequently mineralized. As the osteoid accumulates, it is laid down
between fetal blood vessels, forming woven bone. The vascularized osteoid then condenses and
forms the periosteum. The final stage of intramembranous ossifcation is the formation of the the
bone collar in compact bone and the formation of red

Minoan Civilization Essay
The Minoan civilization was founded in 3000 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE, whereas the
Mycenaean civilization was founded in 1900 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE (Matthews, Noble,
Platt, 2014). The Minoan and Mycenaean cultures are found to be in present day Greeks as DNA
has revealed to be similar in early farmers (Reich, 2017).
The Minoans were the first literate civilization in Europe. One key aspect of the Minoan and
Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later was writing. Linear A, a syllabic system
that cannot be read by anyone except the Minoans, however, the Mycenaeans produced thousands
of Linear B tablets, that contained documents for the government, as well as the Iliad and
Odyssey (Matthews et al, 2014). Both Linear A and B are from a syllabic system, which are like
the Greek letters. Another key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among
the Greeks later were metals, such as bronze, copper, tin, silver, and gold (Matthews et al, 2014).
These metals were used for military weapons such as swords, spears, daggers, and others, the
chariots with the horse and wheel. Throughout the ages and eras, metals improved, as well as what

On the Distinctive Feature Theory: A Critique and an Evaluation
I. Phonology
.....
a.The feature theory was most famously developed for phonology by Trubetskoy (1939), with
significant extensions by Jakobson, Fant and Halle (1952) and Chomsky and Halle (1968). In this
paper, the history of each feature theory will be summarized and the main arguments of each theory
outlined. Each theory will then be critiqued and evaluated with the end point establishing which
among these feature theories would be most necessary to use in doing phonological analysis.
II. Distinctive Feature Theory
A.Trubetskoi s Binary Oppositions
Nikolai Trubetskoi (1890 1938) s GrundzГјge der Phonologie (1939) used the term opposition to
refer to a pair of speech sound that are distinctive, or contrastive. His was the first attempt to
provide a universal framework that are exploited for phonological proposes in the languages of the
world. In his version of the distinctive feature theory, the system of phonemes was not considered as

Emily Dickinson s Black Lives Matter !
Black Lives Matter! This quote has been a theme in America for the past almost 200 years. The
Civil War made equality a constant theme, by how it impacted all of America. Among those
impacted by the Civil War is one of the greatest, most original American poets, Emily Dickinson
(Smith)(Marcellin). Emily Dickinsonwas born December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She
died at the age of 55 on May 15, 1886, in the home where she spent the majority of her life
(Bloom 12). She was never married and had no romantic relationships. However, American poet
and social commentator Allen Tate stated, All pity for Miss Dickinson s starved life is
misdirected. Her life was one of the richest and deepest ever lived on this continent, (Brand). Not
only was her life rich, she created numerous masterpieces that were not discovered until after her
death (Bloom 12). Emily s poetryis known for its emotional and intellectual energy. She expresses
extremes of passion, love, despair, dread, and elation throughout her work. In her poem Color Caste
Denomination, Emily comments on, in an indirect manner, the ridiculousness of racism and
judgement. The writer of this poem, though socially quiet, wrote with a persuasive tone
(Crumbley). As stated in Color Caste Denomination, racism has, and always will be, an unnecessary

Art Movements In The Movement Of The Dada Movement

making these movements great. During the first World War, as a reaction to the chaos and turmoil,
arose a movement called Dada. The movement started in 1916 in ZГјrich, Switzerland and ended in

L.H.O.O.Q (fig 3) is a play on the Mona Lisa, crafted in 1919. It is an excellent example of the
mockery to traditional art. The Mona Lisa in his work L.H.O.O.Q. is printed on a postcard,
where then Duchamp drew a mustache and goatee on the painted woman photographed. He then
labeled it L.H.O.O.Q., and it became an iconic piece of Dada work. If someone who is fluent in
the French language and native to the tongue were to pronounce these letters, it would read Elle a
chaud au cul , which can translate to She has a hot arse. ( Dada Movement, Artists and Major
Works. ) Dada was said to be very anti art, so by taking a well known traditional piece from 1517
painted by Leonardo Da Vinci made a huge statement on how Duchamp was throwing away all
traditional practices of what art was before Dada (Flask).
There are also arguments on what the deeper meaning of the title of the work could be, and how
perhaps Duchamp was attempting to make the Mona Lisa even further androgynous (Jack).
Interestingly, Duchamp revised this piece (fig 4) in 1965, and titled it L.H.O.O.Q. Shaved. The
revision of the work is a white sheet of paper with another photograph that seems to be a playing
card of the Mona Lisa, clean shaven placed in the middle of the paper, with the title written
underneath. The MoMA currently has it in their collection, a gift given to the museum from Philip
Johnson (Duchamp).

Market trend. There are many factors of market would influence other three categories. First is the

group of students from my different backgrounds. I feel like shadowing this school is much more
realistic to the difficulties I may encounter as a teacher, therefore I benefit from shadowing this
teacher and school. There were many take a ways that I encountered through this shadow. There
were many students that had learning disabilities and even students that English is their second
language. I was able to watch how these students learned through a teacher helper. This stood out to
me because in most schools when a student doesn t know English or is struggling with a certain
topic of area they learn the material in a different classroom rather than in the normal classroom. I
thought that this was very interested how they implemented this into the classroom setting. There
was an interpreter in the classroom and there were six students that could not speak English. They
sat in a group while the teacher continued as normal and the interpreter would translate. I thought
that this school in particular does a very good job at including and teaching for students that need

Gladiatorial Contest in Rome
Gladiatorial Contest in Rome Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in
their time, the wars sort of formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were
fascinated and pleasured by violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games. The
gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustusto pay tribute to their warrior
traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for
public entertainment. It is very obvious that gladiatorial contest were important because of the
enormous size of the amphitheaters. In A.D. 80, the Colosseum, which seated fifty thousand
people, was used to accompany a hundred days of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then when officers of the state started producing the gladiatorial shows on a regular basis
as a part of their job. Emperor Augustus restricted the gladiatorial games to two a year, limiting
the aristocrats chances to receive the peoples vote for political offices. Each of the officials
were forbidden to spend more on themselves than their associates. However, the emperor s rules
were often broken by aristocrats due to the competitiveness of political power and prestige.
Animals played a part in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games
lasting 123 days containing 9,138 gladiators fought eleven thousand animals. In 169 B.C., sixty
three African lions and leopards, forty bears, and several elephants were murdered in a single
show. Romans then started to hunt new animals such as tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, lynxes,
rhinoceros, and ostriches. Some shows involved hundreds of animals in one show. All of the
animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were heroes to their culture. Even though most
of the gladiators were slaves, women were attracted to them. But gladiators were also degraded by
society. They were not allowed to be buried in normal burial grounds. Women also fought in
gladiatorial games also. The women fought in the arena were men fought. An example of women
fighting was found on a small stone relief, depicting two female gladiators, with one breast bare,
called Amazon an Achillia. Sports

Persuasive Speech On Bodybuilding
Let s face it, bodybuilding is very much a sport which places a huge emphasis on sacrifice, as in
reality, bodybuilding isn t so much a sport at all, but rather an entire lifestyle and a way of life.
For people who think that bodybuilding is simply about spending an hour or so in the gym a few
times each week, the reality of things is very different indeed. Bodybuilders constantly have to
watch not only what they eat, but when they eat as well.
They can t simply head out to the club with their friends, or for a meal whenever they like,
especially if they re training for a competition. Even what they drink has a huge effect on their
physiques, particularly where alcohol is concerned. Unfortunately, alcohol and bodybuilding just do
not go together, as alcohol is extremely detrimental not only to a person s physique, but also to
their training as well. Generally speaking, alcohol and bodybuilding should be kept as far away
from each other as possible, and here s a look at why that is. ... Show more content on

When we eat food, the food of course contains calories, which are units of energy that fuel our
bodies. These calories, however, are predominantly found in vital micronutrients which are:
protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Even when we eat a double cheeseburger and fries, the calories,
as unhealthy as they are, still help us to meet our macronutrient goals as the foods contain
proteins, and fats, and carbohydrates, which our bodies need. Alcohol however, contains twice as
many calories as proteins and carbohydrates, and offers very little in return. On top of that, as it is
in liquid form, the calories are absorbed quickly, which can lead to increases in body fat storage.

Examples Of Skeletons In The Closet
When we overhear a discussion about skeletons in the closet, they may not necessarily be talking
about a collection of bones. Instead, they may be referring to secretive skeletons from their past
hidden deep in the dark closets of their mind. They go out of their way to conceal them, knowing
if divulged they could cause pain and humiliation by embarrassing or destroying an otherwise
unblemished reputation, even ruining lives forever. When we say, I have skeletons in my closet
that s our way of saying, I m not telling you about my past escapades, it might change your
opinion of me, or simply I ll protect my secrets and they can never come back to bite me. Without a

Long Walk And Freedom By Robert Nelson Mandela
Long Walk to Freedom , released in 1995, is a biographical story about the revolutionary and
former South African President Nelson Mandela. The book narrates how Mandela becomes a
remarkable leader in the construction of a democratic South Africa. It chronicles his early life,
growing up, education and his 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to
rebuild the country s segregated society. Mandela begins his book with a description of his
ancestry and later goes on to talk about his early childhood, which mainly consisted on herding
cattle and practicing a traditional southern South African type of martial art. When Mandela
became of age, his father sent him to school, which was a rare privilege for a child in his village.
Mandela transcended at school and his uncle decided to invest on Nelson s school success by
sending him to a series of exclusive boarding schools.
In the following sections of his biography, Mandela describes his young adulthood and his gradual
metamorphosis into a leader of South Africa s freedom and equality movement. As a young adult,
Nelson moved to Johannesburg and became an active member in the African National Congress
(ANC), an organization dedicated to fight for the rights of black South Africans. Mandela joins the
ANC s Youth League; a subgroup that advocated similar, but more radical ideals than the main
organization, in which he adopted a leadership role.

As I Lay Dying And The Crucible Essay
In As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, women are perceived
in ways that fit the time period they are written in. The Crucible deals with women being
accused of witchcraft and regarded as witches. In As I Lay Dying the few women in the story,
are not highly regarded or of high status. Both authors depict women in different ways, but with
similar attitude towards women. Even though The Crucible and As I Lay Dying were works
from different time periods, the portrayal of women in both works have similarities. Although
women are regarded as low importance in As I Lay Dying, women play a key role in in The
Crucible. There is a contrast between how women are regarded in the two works. In his novel

We have all manner of licentious people in the village! (Miller 41). The possibility of witches
being present in the village, especially in his own home brings immense trouble. In Faulkner s
novel, Addie s dying wish is to be buried in Jefferson, requiring her family to go on a troublesome
journey. This puts a burden on her family, requiring them to put their lives on hold and complete
her wish. With this continuing idea, Anse finds it necessary to try to fulfill his dying wife s
wish, I done my best I says. I tried to do as she would wish it... (Faulkner 106). Throughout both
works, everyone s lives are centered around the female characters. Faulkner and Miller both use
symbols and dialogue to reveal how they personally perceive women and how they portray
women through their works. In As I Lay Dying William Faulkner uses a coffin to symbolize that
Addie is dying, this shows that she is of little regard or usefulness to the household. Faulkner s
female characters have much fewer entries than the male characters, this results with a more
dominant male force where we see their views of the women. Faulkner himself appears to be
uncomfortable with women, and the idea of women playing a major role. Faulkner s discomfort
with women and disdain for weak men evolved under the lens of gender criticism into his
examination of the roles our culture asks us to play because of our biological sex. (Towner 100).

Angola Essay
Angola
Angola, formerly Portuguese West Africa, is the seventh largest country in Africa. The country can
be divided into three major regions: the coastal plain, a transition zone, and the vast inland plateau.
Angola has a tropical climate with its vegetation including tropical rain forests, savannas,
grasslands, palm trees and even deserts. A great variety of animal life ranging from elephants,
rhinoceros, giraffes, and even crocodiles can also be found in this African country (Microsoft 1).
Very little is known about the early regions of Angola. The original inhabitants of present day
Angola were hunters and gatherers. Their descendants, called Bushman by the Europeans, still

This difference of interest soon created conflict between Afonso and the Portuguese. The slave
trade, greedily aided by local chiefs, gradually undermined the authority of the king, and twenty
five years after Afonso s death the state succumbed to the onslaught of the Jaga, a belligerent
horde of nomads from the east (Microsoft 4). With Portuguese help, the invaders were finally
ousted, but by this time the life had gone out of the ravaged kingdom (July 155). Clearly, turmoil,
victimization, and disappointment are themes that have pervaded Angola s history, especially
since the arrival of the Europeans in the fifteenth century (Collelo xxi). In 1576, in effective
control of the countryside and facing no organized Kongo opposition, the Portuguese founded the
town of Luanda, in effect establishing the colony of Angola (Bender 24). After the Portuguese
began reaching the interior, they soon appointed royal governors who tried to impose their ideas

Europeans only managed to establish insecure footholds along the coast (Collelo 9). Kings Alvaro I
and II both brought some stability to the falling kingdom by expanding their territory and at the
same time keeping the Portuguese at bay. But after the death of Alvaro II, conflicts between the

tropical look in your garden. Valued for their arching, green fronds and beautiful trunks, Palms
are always an eye catching garden feature. In the warmer regions, Palms can be used to create a
garden with rich, tropical atmosphere. There are hundreds of varieties to choose from, with a
fascinating array of foliage forms. Palms also have attractive trunks, often with patterned or
peeling bark, that makes them an ideal backdrop for other plants in the garden. The area at the
base of Palms is the perfect spot for growing smaller shrubs, annuals and perennials which bring
color and form to the garden. For this garden design the following plants and Palms have been
used: Miniature Date Palm: The dwarf Palm with arching, glossy, deep greenfronds grows to a
height and spread of 3 meters. It has an elegant, slender trunk and produces black fruits in
autumn. Bangalow Palm: This handsome, single trunked palm with arching feathery fronds

Lincoln Electric Company Case Study Study Analysis
Lincoln Electric Company Case Study Analysis In this Case Study Analysis, I will identify
examples of the types of organizational culture (innovative and stable) that the Lincoln Electric
Company has, as well as the benefits and problems the company could experience as a result of
these. The idea that stuck out the most about the Lincoln ElectricCompany is that they obviously
have a strong culturethat all levels of employees are proud to be a part of. According to Carpenter,
Taylor, and Erdogan (2010), culture is a more powerful way of controlling and managing employee
behaviors than organizational rules and regulations (pg. 193, para. 2). The Lincoln Electric
Company encompasses facets of multiple types of cultures instead of adhering to only one. The
ways in which the Lincoln Electric Company identifies with an innovative culture are most
prominently explained by the following facets: not having a traditional hierarchy, and utilizing an
open door policy when it comes to problem resolution. As explained in the Organization Structure
section of the Case Study, personnel are encouraged to take problems to the persons most capable of
resolving them [open door policy] (Sharplin, 1989, pg. 7, para. 1). In the same section, Sharplin also
mentions that, Lincoln has never had a formal organization chart... [but] position titles and

The World And Expanse Of Time
Throughout the semester, evaluating different eras and event across the world and expanse of
time, we have studied how individual players and their actions contribute to our understanding of
history itself. Many of our readings were historical accounts centralized on the lives of single
players, and these players roles in greater historical events.
The outbreak and entirety of WWI, serves as an example of how many individual players, and
their actions, contributed to the overall outcome of an all out war. In class, we discussed how
there were a number of major players whom helped contribute to the outbreak and subsequent
events of WW1. One of the key actors we examined, was the Emperor to Russia at the time,
Nicholas II, and the qualities attributed to him as an individual. These are the qualities which may
have not only led to Russia s involvement in WWI, but also can be attributed to Russia s loss in
Russo Japanese War, further destabilization of Russia s central government under Nicholas II, and
ultimately the collapse of the Russian Monarchy, all culminating in the 1917 Russian Revolution.
Nicholas II was the first born child of Emperor Alexander III of Russia, and being so, his upbringing
was a rather quite and isolated, though he maintained a close relationship with both his father and
mother. In 1881, Alexander II, Nicholas grandfather (and Emperor at the time) was assassinated by
revolutionaries, quickly making Nicholas heir apparent at the age of thirteen. Though

Abstract
The United States of America was a boiling time in the 1940 s. With World War II approaching,
United States of America (USA) citizens went above and beyond to help out the cause. Doctor s
and student of universities unraveled mysteries and did what some would call impossible. It didn
t matter what color you were or who you loved, but if you were helping to aid the USA during
war, you were all right. Through tragedy, suffering and back breaking work, the United States of

The USA needed more men for war and more people in the work force to cover jobs. Because of
the desperateness and proudness of citizens, not only did women benefit but also racial minorities,
homosexuals and the mentally ill benefited.
Women all around the USA were picking up their husbands wrenches and were going to work.
They had finally gotten the share of independence they longed for but, it wouldn t take long for
women to take another step towards ultimate civil freedom. In March of 1942, women were able
to step out of their dresses and jump into militant uniform. No longer did they need to become
nurses to be in war, but now they had the opportunity to become greater than men. Women took
jobs as WASP s , WAVES and WAC s . They trained male piolets, tested planes, free men of
combat roles and worked as volunteer emergency medics (Berkin, Miller, Cherny, Gormly, 2015).
If women did not get jobs or take lead, women may not have the same freedoms as of the 21st
century.
If women could do it, minorities could do it too. African Americans, homosexual and the mentally
ill gained benefits from the war. African men now had complete ease going into the military and
could serve the country like any other citizen could. This was a huge step for the USA because not
long before, African Americans were extreamly segragated. This moment of allowance shows
extream cilvil growth withing the states.

so much to me because the fact that I m making my parents proud and doing what they can t means

The First Step Out Of Bondage
Kevin Bales stated in Understanding Global Slavery , For some slaves, the first step out of
bondage is to learn to see their lives with new eyes. Their reality is a social world where they have
their place and some assurance of a subsistence diet. Born into slavery, they cannot easily redefine
their lives outside the frame of enslavement. Indentured servitude was technically a fancy way to
call someone a slave. When the first settlers came to North America and realized they didn t know
how to survive on this unknown land, their only solution was to find someone else to figure it out
for them. Because early Americans didn t want to anything for themselves, the indentured servitude
system was created, indentured servitude led to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An indentured servant was, a majority of the time, poor citizens from England or male and female
convicts who needed to serve out their time. The job of the indentured was the same as a simple
housemaid or laborers. The men would take care of gardening, coachmen, butcher, ect. While
the women would simply do the laundry, sew, or any other simple housekeeping. The idea of
indentured servitude first came after young Englishmen needed a free way to the new world so
they could start anew. Indentured servitude first came to exist in the United States in 1620. This
system provided incentives for both the master and servant to increase the working population
of the new colonies formed in the New Word. This system seemed to benefit the servant as well.
Each indentured servant would have their fare across the Atlantic paid in full by their master. A
contract was written that ensure the length of service which was typically five years. The servant
would be supplied room and board while working in the master s fields. Upon completion of the
contract, the servant would receive freedom dues, a pre arranged termination bonus. This could
include land, money, a gun, clothes or food. On the surface it seemed like a terrific way for the
English men to make a great living just after 5 years of work, however, this was not often the case.

The Soviet Union And The United States
Due to the onset of the Cold War and the early 1960s, the popular and political climate in the
United States changed. The relationship between the Soviet Union and the United States was
directed by ideological, political and technological factors. The rivalry between the two powers
rooted from their contrasting ideological principles since the United States was a democratic
republic where the people believed that every citizen had equal representation in the government
and the Soviet Union was a communist nation. The US embodied the principles of a democratic
nation believing in the ideals of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as well as having an economy
that was based on capitalism. In contrast to the ideology of the US, the Soviet Union fell under
communist rule during the Russian Revolution of 1917, which was based on the idea that all assets
should be owned by the government and then divided among the citizens of the nation. The Soviet
Union took communisma step further as the many of the leaders were totalitarian during the 20th
century, meaning that all power was in the hands of the ruler . In 1946, Churchill declared the
separation between the east and west by saying that an iron curtain had descended through the
middle of Europe (Churchill Delivers Iron Curtain Speech 1). Even though the Soviets and the US
fought together in WWII, the eastern communistic ideology had clashed with western democratic
principles. Furthermore, the two powers were in a nuclear

The treatment of African Americans in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks demonstrates the lack

that medical doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital were solely injecting radium treatment for cervical
cancer, Henrietta Lacks laid on the surgical bed. During this procedure Dr. Lawrence Wharton Jr.

This marked the commencement of the ethical partition between both races within the novel.
The unethical practices against the African Americans in the U.S. Public HealthService became
even more evident when the dreaded C word, also known as cancer, struck the body of Henrietta
Lacks. After complaining of an invasive pain in her lower abdomen and excessive blood secretion,
Henrietta went to the only hospital that treated African Americans with illnesses of that magnitude.
At Johns Hopkins Hospital, Howard Jones cut a small sample of Henrietta s cervix and sent it to
the pathology lab. After a few weeks of testing, Henrietta received a call requesting that she return

As preposterous as it sounds some medical professions believed that Henrietta gave consent when
she printed her name on the OPERATION PERMIT form which briefly stated:

Personality Theory Of Personality Development
Many personality theorists offered different explanations for human behaviors as well as
established specific stages of personality development. However, person centered theory does not
have a theory of personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles
in order to develop the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all
individuals have the innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which
is congruent with his whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as
the inborn motivating force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true
potential. The actualizing tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency
is referred as self actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed,
though, it can never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the
motivating force in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety
reduction. It also encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and
seeking of pleasurable tensions. It is Rogers belief that all organisms including, humans strive to
become his/her full potential even under difficult circumstances. However, when individuals are
lacking empathy and unconditional positive regard in their society and in interpersonal

The prevalence of burnout occurring in universities are increasing owing to the evolving nature of
an academician s job scope becoming more challenging and strenuous, as recent research on
academicians stress indicates (Akgemci et al. 2013; Eker Anbar, 2008; Salami, 2011; Toker, 2011;

association between burnoutand resilience involving academicians of universities, which have
resulted in a lack of literature in the aforementioned context. Despite the growing literature on

resilience and negatively linked with burnout. It was found that many residents endorsed burnout

Think about different market entry strategy so that the rivalry company could not stop them to
enter into the market again.
Nokia now facing hard time. The company which was dominating the market for years now do
not any entity in the market. They mainly focused on middle class and lower class people which
was the main problem. They should focus on higher class people who can afford better quality
phone with better features and application. If they starting doing it again I am sure people will

Nike Campaign Essay
In this campaign, our advertising objective is to convince potential athletic wear consumers in
Western Europe, China, and India that Nike is the premium brand for footwear, sports gear, and e
commerce. It will allow these individuals to feel satisfied that they are getting the highest quality
content from the most elite brand, and prompt them to make a purchase in store or online. Our
creative strategy will involve highlighting Nike s superior features, their associations with high
profile athletes, and their unique brand personality that revolves around inspiration and motivation.
This will strengthen the image of the Nike brand in the consumer s mind, and raise awareness for
the brand in Western Europe, China, and India. Nike s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through rational appeals and product performance benefits, we will show that Nike isn t just
about physical attributes, but also satisfies customer s needs and wants. Nike s unique value
proposition has always been the innovative design, durability, and quality of their products. For
example, a rational appeal in an advertisement can focus on Nike s comfort and durability, which
fulfills safety needs (Percy, 2008). We can also note that Nike satisfies esteem needs by being
extremely dependable in quality, use, and that they offer a large selection of products. Equally as

such as appeals to esteem, self actualization, and social approval, are the underlying factors that
influence purchasing decisions. Gaining ambition, social achievement, and pride in one s personal
appearance, are emotional benefits that will differentiate the Nike brand from the competition
(Percey, 2008). Nike s slogan, Just Do It, reinforces these emotional appeals. Since the slogan is
subjective to the consumer, they have the power to associate their own emotions and interpretations
with the brand. Nike s logo, the swoosh, is one of the most recognizable logos in the world, and is
enough to represent everything about their products. It is able to express the brand value, product

The tobacco industry to this day still continues to be a very profitable business for many reasons.
One is the attraction to young adults. Even though it may be illegal to advertise tobacco products
on television, shows and movies starring famous actors are shown smoking. This influences those
younger to think that doing so is socially acceptable, therefore perfectly fine to do the same. This

  • 2. The Decade Long War Mark Atwood Lawrence s study, The Vietnam War: A Concise International History, is about the changing of the French Indochina conflict to America s involvement in the war from 1954 to 1975. This book also went through each President of the United States that had to deal with the Vietnam War starting with Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, to Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The different sources Lawrence used in The Vietnam War: A Concise International History helps bolster the argument for what Vietnamese peasants, Presidents, and American soldiers had to go through during this conflict on the 17th parallel. Sources used included photographs from different places including Texas Tech University, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It does not come out and say where the two main places, Hanoi and Saigon, are actually located. Lawrence often refers to them as those names throughout his study and never puts a North or South Vietnam with it for clarification. Although, Lawrence does include a map of Vietnam and the surrounding territories on page 12, a reader could be lost on who is who by this point in the book. Another point that readers could get mildly confused on is when Lawrence refers to Vietnam as different names. For example, over time, they hoped, aggressive search and destroy operations would inflict casualties more quickly than North Vietnam and the NLF could replace their losses, thus forcing the communists to seek peace on American terms, (Lawrence, 102). Lawrence never explained the NLF, National Liberation Front, and what it means or whom it represents. Lawrence also used Vietcong regularly throughout his study. For instance, Vietcong, a contraction of the term for Vietnamese communist, Lawrence does not really explain why he calls it Vietcong throughout the book (Lawrence, 65). Lawrence could have explained whom this term was more directly used for or why it was used to explain these people. Lawrence s study reveals a lot about the Vietnam War and the role of the United States in Southeast Asia from 1954 to 1975, including the Second Indochina War (Lawrence, 65), ... • 3. Asean Essay The Quest for ASEAN Economic Community through Consensus Building The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) began on August 8, 1967, when Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, settled their differences and decided to form the group due to the prevailing geopolitical conditions. Fresh from the debilitating effects of historical antagonism brought upon by territorial disputes drawn by colonial division, the power vacuum left by decolonization is quickly replaced by Cold War polarization. The need to stay neutral and insulate them from big power rivalry becomes a necessity for the newly independent states who have grown tired of foreign domination and intervention and just wants to live in harmony and prosperity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This landmark agreement defined the group s development and organizational initiatives from its inception until its current ten member states configuration. ASEAN adopted the principles of consensus decision making and flexibility, which is an indirect pledge of non aggression and good faith. Since then, ASEAN s negotiations were carried out on the basis of accommodating every member state s position as much as possible. There is always the use of constant consultations and discussions until a viable consensus is reached. This seems to have worked to bolster relations internally and somehow preserve each participant s sovereignty. It was also during this time that ASEAN declared the group s pursuit of political stability and economic prosperity through the ASEAN Concord. In order to produce healthier canines and to reduce the incidence of diseases commonly found in canines, it is important to understand what bone development is and how it occurs, factors that influence bonedevelopment, and developmental diseases. Development can be defined as a series of changes that takes place in an animal beginning in the embryonic state and lasting until maturity. These changes lead to a more complex organizational state of the body, starting with simple cellular organization and leading to formation of body systems. Ossification Mechanisms Intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification are the types of bone development that occur during fetal development. Intramembranous ossification is the formation of flat bones (i.e, cranial bones). The first stage of this type of ossification is the formation of an ossification center in the fibrous connective tissue membrane. The ossification center is formed by mesenchymal cells differentiating into osteoblasts. The osteoblasts then secrete osteoid into the fibrous membrane and is subsequently mineralized. As the osteoid accumulates, it is laid down between fetal blood vessels, forming woven bone. The vascularized osteoid then condenses and forms the periosteum. If Marlene spent less money on herself they could afford to buy the kid a car, Andrew said, aware of their daughter in law s expensive taste. Guess when we bought Mark s car, they assumed we would buy one for Ashley. Did you talk to Marlene recently? Andrew asked, putting the dishes on the tray to return to the kitchen. Not for several days, is everything alright? The other morning Jerry stopped by the store, visibly upset over something, but refused to talk about it and assured me that we didn t need to worry about them. • 24. Long Walk And Freedom By Robert Nelson Mandela Long Walk to Freedom , released in 1995, is a biographical story about the revolutionary and former South African President Nelson Mandela. The book narrates how Mandela becomes a remarkable leader in the construction of a democratic South Africa. It chronicles his early life, growing up, education and his 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country s segregated society. Mandela begins his book with a description of his ancestry and later goes on to talk about his early childhood, which mainly consisted on herding cattle and practicing a traditional southern South African type of martial art. When Mandela became of age, his father sent him to school, which was a rare privilege for a child in his village. Mandela transcended at school and his uncle decided to invest on Nelson s school success by sending him to a series of exclusive boarding schools. In the following sections of his biography, Mandela describes his young adulthood and his gradual metamorphosis into a leader of South Africa s freedom and equality movement. As a young adult, Nelson moved to Johannesburg and became an active member in the African National Congress (ANC), an organization dedicated to fight for the rights of black South Africans. Mandela joins the ANC s Youth League; a subgroup that advocated similar, but more radical ideals than the main organization, in which he adopted a leadership role. • 25. As I Lay Dying And The Crucible Essay In As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, women are perceived in ways that fit the time period they are written in. The Crucible deals with women being accused of witchcraft and regarded as witches. In As I Lay Dying the few women in the story, are not highly regarded or of high status. Both authors depict women in different ways, but with similar attitude towards women. Even though The Crucible and As I Lay Dying were works from different time periods, the portrayal of women in both works have similarities. Although women are regarded as low importance in As I Lay Dying, women play a key role in in The Crucible. There is a contrast between how women are regarded in the two works. In his novel William... Throughout both works, everyone s lives are centered around the female characters. Faulkner and Miller both use symbols and dialogue to reveal how they personally perceive women and how they portray women through their works. In As I Lay Dying William Faulkner uses a coffin to symbolize that Addie is dying, this shows that she is of little regard or usefulness to the household. Faulkner s female characters have much fewer entries than the male characters, this results with a more dominant male force where we see their views of the women. Faulkner himself appears to be uncomfortable with women, and the idea of women playing a major role. Faulkner s discomfort with women and disdain for weak men evolved under the lens of gender criticism into his examination of the roles our culture asks us to play because of our biological sex. A great variety of animal life ranging from elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes, and even crocodiles can also be found in this African country (Microsoft 1). This difference of interest soon created conflict between Afonso and the Portuguese. The slave trade, greedily aided by local chiefs, gradually undermined the authority of the king, and twenty five years after Afonso s death the state succumbed to the onslaught of the Jaga, a belligerent horde of nomads from the east (Microsoft 4). With Portuguese help, the invaders were finally ousted, but by this time the life had gone out of the ravaged kingdom (July 155). Clearly, turmoil, victimization, and disappointment are themes that have pervaded Angola s history, especially since the arrival of the Europeans in the fifteenth century (Collelo xxi). In 1576, in effective control of the countryside and facing no organized Kongo opposition, the Portuguese founded the town of Luanda, in effect establishing the colony of Angola (Bender 24). After the Portuguese began reaching the interior, they soon appointed royal governors who tried to impose their ideas and beliefs upon the people (Halladay 82). Many African leaders resisted this foreign rule and the Europeans only managed to establish insecure footholds along the coast (Collelo 9). Lincoln Electric Company Case Study Study Analysis Lincoln Electric Company Case Study Analysis In this Case Study Analysis, I will identify examples of the types of organizational culture (innovative and stable) that the Lincoln Electric Company has, as well as the benefits and problems the company could experience as a result of these. The idea that stuck out the most about the Lincoln ElectricCompany is that they obviously have a strong culturethat all levels of employees are proud to be a part of. According to Carpenter, Taylor, and Erdogan (2010), culture is a more powerful way of controlling and managing employee behaviors than organizational rules and regulations (pg. 193, para. 2). The Lincoln Electric Company encompasses facets of multiple types of cultures instead of adhering to only one. The ways in which the Lincoln Electric Company identifies with an innovative culture are most prominently explained by the following facets: not having a traditional hierarchy, and utilizing an open door policy when it comes to problem resolution. As explained in the Organization Structure section of the Case Study, personnel are encouraged to take problems to the persons most capable of resolving them [open door policy] (Sharplin, 1989, pg. 7, para. 1). The World And Expanse Of Time Throughout the semester, evaluating different eras and event across the world and expanse of time, we have studied how individual players and their actions contribute to our understanding of history itself. Many of our readings were historical accounts centralized on the lives of single players, and these players roles in greater historical events. The outbreak and entirety of WWI, serves as an example of how many individual players, and their actions, contributed to the overall outcome of an all out war. In class, we discussed how there were a number of major players whom helped contribute to the outbreak and subsequent events of WW1. One of the key actors we examined, was the Emperor to Russia at the time, Nicholas II, and the qualities attributed to him as an individual. These are the qualities which may have not only led to Russia s involvement in WWI, but also can be attributed to Russia s loss in Russo Japanese War, further destabilization of Russia s central government under Nicholas II, and ultimately the collapse of the Russian Monarchy, all culminating in the 1917 Russian Revolution. Nicholas II was the first born child of Emperor Alexander III of Russia, and being so, his upbringing was a rather quite and isolated, though he maintained a close relationship with both his father and mother. In 1881, Alexander II, Nicholas grandfather (and Emperor at the time) was assassinated by revolutionaries, quickly making Nicholas heir apparent at the age of thirteen. Though ... The USA needed more men for war and more people in the work force to cover jobs. Because of the desperateness and proudness of citizens, not only did women benefit but also racial minorities, homosexuals and the mentally ill benefited. Women all around the USA were picking up their husbands wrenches and were going to work. They had finally gotten the share of independence they longed for but, it wouldn t take long for women to take another step towards ultimate civil freedom. In March of 1942, women were able to step out of their dresses and jump into militant uniform. No longer did they need to become nurses to be in war, but now they had the opportunity to become greater than men. Women took jobs as WASP s , WAVES and WAC s . They trained male piolets, tested planes, free men of combat roles and worked as volunteer emergency medics (Berkin, Miller, Cherny, Gormly, 2015). If women did not get jobs or take lead, women may not have the same freedoms as of the 21st century. If women could do it, minorities could do it too. African Americans, homosexual and the mentally ill gained benefits from the war. African men now had complete ease going into the military and could serve the country like any other citizen could. Their reality is a social world where they have their place and some assurance of a subsistence diet. Born into slavery, they cannot easily redefine their lives outside the frame of enslavement. Indentured servitude was technically a fancy way to call someone a slave. When the first settlers came to North America and realized they didn t know how to survive on this unknown land, their only solution was to find someone else to figure it out for them. An indentured servant was, a majority of the time, poor citizens from England or male and female convicts who needed to serve out their time. The job of the indentured was the same as a simple housemaid or laborers. The men would take care of gardening, coachmen, butcher, ect. While the women would simply do the laundry, sew, or any other simple housekeeping. The idea of indentured servitude first came after young Englishmen needed a free way to the new world so they could start anew. Indentured servitude first came to exist in the United States in 1620. This system provided incentives for both the master and servant to increase the working population of the new colonies formed in the New Word. This system seemed to benefit the servant as well. Each indentured servant would have their fare across the Atlantic paid in full by their master. A contract was written that ensure the length of service which was typically five years. The servant would be supplied room and board while working in the master s fields. Upon completion of the contract, the servant would receive freedom dues, a pre arranged termination bonus. • 33. The Soviet Union And The United States Due to the onset of the Cold War and the early 1960s, the popular and political climate in the United States changed. The relationship between the Soviet Union and the United States was directed by ideological, political and technological factors. The rivalry between the two powers rooted from their contrasting ideological principles since the United States was a democratic republic where the people believed that every citizen had equal representation in the government and the Soviet Union was a communist nation. The US embodied the principles of a democratic nation believing in the ideals of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as well as having an economy that was based on capitalism. In contrast to the ideology of the US, the Soviet Union fell under communist rule during the Russian Revolution of 1917, which was based on the idea that all assets should be owned by the government and then divided among the citizens of the nation. The Soviet Union took communisma step further as the many of the leaders were totalitarian during the 20th century, meaning that all power was in the hands of the ruler . In 1946, Churchill declared the separation between the east and west by saying that an iron curtain had descended through the middle of Europe (Churchill Delivers Iron Curtain Speech 1). Even though the Soviets and the US fought together in WWII, the eastern communistic ideology had clashed with western democratic principles. Furthermore, the two powers were in a nuclear ... However, person centered theory does not have a theory of personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles in order to develop the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all individuals have the innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which is congruent with his whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as the inborn motivating force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true potential. The actualizing tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency is referred as self actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed, though, it can never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the motivating force in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety reduction. It also encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and seeking of pleasurable tensions.
