across a dozen countries, with Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives,
and Thailand sustaining massive damage.
The Sumatra-Andaman earthquake, which caused the tsunami, is
estimated to have released energy equivalent to
23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs.
