The Safety Of The Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International...
Abstract
This paper will discuss the many different processes and procedures that play into the overall safety of
the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL). There are countless facets and aspects
when it comes to airport operations. The safety aspect is no different. Airports must keep a positive
representation in the media and keeping all areas as safe as possible is paramount. The overall safety
operations of an airport would simply be too much try convey so instead, this research paper focuses
on a large subsection KATL safety known as ramp operations. It follows along and details different
aspects of the Ramp Safety Standards Manual created by the Department of Aviation for the city of
Atlanta. In doing so, the paper provides a clear view of how ramp operations at KATL relate to system
safety.
System Safety of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport Ramp Operations
Introduction
Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been deemed the busiest airport in the world for
the past 17 years straight (Mutzabaugh, 2015). One huge aspect of having such consistent success over
the years has been the airport s ability to maintain a safe and secure working environment. This is
particularly important on the airside of the airport where aircrafts are continually turning, burning, and
finding their place among the many gates of the terminal. More specifically, the ramp at KATL is a
complex stretch of concrete where aircraft, flight

Girl Interrupted Research Paper
The movie Girl, Interrupted is about a young woman named Susanne, who struggles with life and
depression. When she attempts suicide, she is sent to a mental institution, where the psychiatrist
diagnosed her with borderline personality disorder (Mangold, 1999). This disorder s symptoms
include instability in relationships, identity disturbance, impulsivity, emotional instability, and chronic
feelings of emptiness (National Institute of Mental Health, 2013). What is personality? What causes a
person to have a personality disorder? Why do people behave and think differently and what
influences these behaviors? There have been many theorists who have tried to find the answers to
these questions. Research has produced many theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attention is the set of processes through which a person focuses on incoming information. These
people define problem solving as operating within constraints and reaching a goal from a starting state
that is nowhere near the goal (Riegler, Riegler, 2009). Decision making is an interaction of these
processes to make a decision. Each of these mental processes can be difficult to understand, but the
human brain does most of the work without any one individual having to put too much effort into
making it happen. Everyone s mental process is different and unique from the next person, which is
correlated to each individual s personality and how these traits influences these different behaviors.
Take, for example, Susanne in Girl, Interrupted . Susanne talked often about having detailed thought
about suicide, and the requirements of a successful suicide, and then attempted suicide followed by
denial. Aspects of personality can change throughout life, and are influenced by both internal factors
(genetics) and external factors (environment). Other aspects, such as temperament, or stable individual
differences in emotional reactivity, remain the same. Personality theories have many differences,
however, one aspect of personality that many theorists agree upon is that genetic factors influence
their child s personality. Specifically, how they are influences and

Themes Presented in Shakespeare s Tragic Play Romeo and...
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays in history, which is written by William Shakespeare.
This play is Shakespeare s first play about tragedy. Romeo and Juliet is a very deep and profound play
about two star crossed lovers met at a ball. Within this play Shakespeare used deep, complex language
to describe their insightful character also their actions towards each other. Romeo and Juliet is about
two lovers from families who have set a grudge upon each other, in this complex piece of art William
Shakespeare has put the protagonist within ruinous events where love is hard and where love has to be
flawless. The plot of Romeo and Juliet is as I said earlier, about two star crossed lovers met at a ball.

Then Romeo realises that he made a fatal flaw. As Romeo dies Juliet s loneliness grows over her, from
that she stabs her self with Romeo s sword and they both just lay their lifelessly. This play fits within
the tragic genre because at Elizabethan times, tragic plays had to incorporate the death of the
protagonist at the end, leaving the audience with a feeling of loss, regret and a hollow victory. In this
case the protagonists are Romeo and Juliet. The themes that are embraced within this play are mostly
arrogance, male pride, secrecy and physical violence. First of all arrogance is shown principally by
Mercutio, given in act 3 scene 1, he insults Tybalt by calling him a ratcatcher . The word ratcatcher
links in with Tybalt s name which means king of cats . He has much courage to insult the cousin of
Romeo s love; also his arrogance overpowers his mind when he tries to scare Tybalt by giving the
names of sword s moves ( passado ). To make this play fit more into the tragic genre, the arrogance
also link in with another theme that Shakespeare has put in which is male pride. this is shown by
several character but it is mainly shown by Romeo and Mercutio. As Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo

The Conflict I Experienced With Raven Will Be Analyzed By...
Analysis of the Situation The conflict I experienced with Raven will be analyzed by the
psychodynamic theory and the attribution theory. The theories will be defined according to textbooks,
peer reviewed scholarly articles, as well as an outside source book. I will use the conflict situation
with my sister to demonstrate how each of the theories helps reveal aspects of the conflict. The first
theory reviewed will be the psychodynamic theory.
Psychodynamic Theory. The psychodynamic theory sheds light on the conflict between my sister, and
me. Cahn and Abigail (2014) say that psychodynamic theory is people who experience conflict

60). This always tends to happen to people whom have an interpersonal relationship. Further research
on the psychodynamic theory will be reviewed. The conflict analysis previously described can be
better understood applying the psychodynamic theory. After thinking about the conflict, I have come
to conclusion that my sister displaced conflict. Raven asserted the hardship that she was currently
going through and after analyzing the psychodynamic theory, I realized that she was taking her
frustration out on the wrong people. Over those past couple of days, she has continually been building
up her anger and she should have explained her frustration with her friend that she was having issues
with. After the fact, Raven realized that she displaced her conflict. She made apologies to me because
she felt bad that I had to deal with her attitude and drive her home. Raven let her internal state of mind
dictate our interaction. The battle between her id and superego she experienced was from her not
being able to keep friends. This then lead to anxiety, repression and frustration. Knowing the type of
relationship, we have, I believe that I was an easy target for her to take her frustration out on.
According to Lesser (1978), despite the very basic fact that siblings spend at least as much time
together as parents do with their children (p. 40). I am Raven s favorite brother so she felt no matter
what that I would still love her. Overblown conflict. The

100% accuracy during five trial periods which is connected with his Postsecondary goal that after his
graduation from high school, Bobby will independently use public transportation in the community.
Teachers can monitor the student s progress on the goal by gathering information on a form that
requires minimal time and effort to complete without sacrificing accuracy. The data survey form can
contain student s performance during this event, frequency of needed reminders, and supports that
have been given to help the student with this specific skill. By utilizing a self monitoring checklist, the
student can take an active role in observing progress towards achievement of the goal.
The concept of self advocacy also can be expressed in the student s selection of short term and long
term goals which not only pertain to course selection and steps needed to achieve success in those
courses but also how courses go hand in hand with the selection of his/her postsecondary environment
(2 or 4 year college, vocational setting, military, or straight into employment) and career. Student s
input is very important because in order for the student to demonstrate optimal internal motivation
(student achieving satisfaction from the action), the student must have vested interest in achieving the
goal.
In order to pursue an activity and possible internal or external reward, the student must value the skill
that will be accomplished by the action. They break the motivation intertwined

Golden Age Of Islam Essay
The Golden Age of Islam
As Western Europe deviated from the chaos of Rome, a golden age began to rise in Islam. It was a
time of peace and knowledge, where economy, art, and cultural works flourished. Where mosques
were covered in elaborate mosaics, where enormous libraries held thousands of books, and where
inventions and innovations were abundant. This golden age was created and made possible by the
perception of God in Islam, the effect of religion, and the growing importance of literacy.
Allah, the one true God of Islam, is transcendent unlike the Christian God who is perceived in human
form. To fathom Allah, one would need intelligence, intuitive knowledge of God, and some sense of
imagination. Allah can be perceived in nature and human epiphanies. This understanding of God, led
the Islamic scholars to be more observant in nature and to discover things on their own. The
fundamental beliefs in Islam can be summarized by the six articles of faith: belief in one God (Allah),
belief in Angels, belief in the Prophets (Adam, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammed), belief in the

This was a time when Islamic art differed from that of the Roman and Byzantine Empire and started to
depict images and symbols of their beliefs. For example, the use of calligraphy as a decorative art was
not only for aesthetic purposes, but also a way for Muslims to connect with the Qu ran, their Holy
Book. Writing the words of the Qu ran was a way for them to worship Allah and receive divine
blessings at the same time. They would also write stories of the prophet Mohammed and write
dedication stones on Islamic buildings. The calligraphy also shows how important the Arabic language
was to the Muslims because it was crucial for prayer and to understand the Qu ran. Calligraphy as an

ASSESSMENT OF BREACH There were a number of factors that contributed to the breach, which
had they been addressed or had corresponding mitigation responses in place, would have reduced the
likelihood that the breach would have taken place, or at a minimum reduce the impact of the attack.
These items range from policy related issues, technology implementations, and security management
and maintenance. Although I believe a number of these areas were in the process of being addressed,
based on the information gathered regarding the details of the incident, it appears that it was still in
many areas insufficient and would not have prevented an incident even if there had been more time
available to perform the implementations. To start, there were significant issues regarding the OPM
and its solutions to deficiencies found during their regular audits. These issues show a lack of
Information Security management and maintenance. This is made clear in an article by ABC News
that at the time of the Senate hearings regarding the OPM breach, Only a few of the inspector general

Evaluate The Social And Economic Effects Of The Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall had a massive impact on east and West Germany, socially, economically and how the
contrast between them affected each other when the wall fell.
On 13 August 1961, a wall was erected through Berlin, named the Berlin Wall. The wall completely
cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany. I will be evaluating the social and economic
impacts the Berlin Wall had on East and West Germany when it got built, and how they affected each
other after the wall fell. Before the wall Germany has recently been defeated in World War II this
caused Soviets, Americans, British and French to hold a conference meeting to decide the division of
Germany. They decided to divide Germany into four zones one for each. France, the U.S. and Britain
were guaranteed access to their zones in Berlin, even though they had to pass through the Soviet zone
to get there. But the differing ideology of the Soviets and their former allies became apparent almost
immediately.
Soviets controlled most of East Europe and started to install communist governments in nations like
Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. But people started to flee the harsh strict rule of these countries.
2.6 million East Germans had escaped to West Germany. This had a devastating effect on East
Germany because the majority of the people who left were young skilled people, such as intellectuals,
doctors and engineers. This was humiliating to East Germany and they didn t want to lose any more
valuable citizens, so they began to start closing borders of the ... Show more content on

Breast Reconstruction Surgery
3853: Sociology of the Body
March 10, 2016 Breast Reconstruction Surgery
In this paper, I will examine the origins of breast reconstruction as well as evaluate the overall surgery
amongst women, surgeons and our society today. The treatment of breast cancer has improved
remarkably from the original surgeries that were developed by Halsted (Uroskie Colen, 2004). The
techniques such as Gilles walking flap or the idea behind the reshaping of a breast mound from the
free perforated flap using internal tissue have been advanced and solidified in our current surgical
society (Uroskie et al., 2004). Although breast reconstruction was once strongly criticized it is now
seen as something that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when the surgeon uses tissues, flap , such as skin, fat or muscle from another part of your body
in order to reconstruct your breast tissue ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). In the free flap
process the tissue is taken from the original blood vessels and moved onto the chest area whereas the
pedicled flap remains attached to the original blood vessel and moved underneath the skin to the new
placement on the chest ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). The pedicled flap tends to be the
surgery more widely available due to the fact that if you have a free flap surgery then your surgeon
must be trained in microsurgery, which typically involves being able to reattach the tissues blood
vessels to the chest area to sustain blood supply ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). These
kinds of reconstruction surgeries tend to be more sought after because the tissue from different places
in the body last a lifetime whereas the implants most women receive have to be replaced every 10 or
20 years ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). Overall, the effects from each of these surgeries
highly depend on your body type as well as daily activities, physical strength and the range of motion
within the limbs of the body; therefore, what works for one individual does not always work for

The Tuskegee Study Essay
President Clinton in 1997 apologized for the harm caused by what might be called as America s most
notorious medical experiments, The Tuskegee Study saying The legacy of the study at Tuskegee has
reached far and deep, in ways that hurt our progress and divides our nation. We cannot be one America
when a whole segment of our nation has no trust in America. An apology is the first step, and we take
it with a commitment to rebuild that broken trust. We can begin by making sure there is never again
another episode like this one. We need to do more to ensure that medical research practices are sound
and ethical, and that researchers work more closely with communities. (The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2013) This study could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1972, however, reports of the experiment were leaked into the press and the experiment was halted.
This led to an outcry among the African American community. But by that time, many of the
participants had died and many others had passed on the disease to their wives and children. (Reverby,
S.M., 2009)
This study was a symbol of unethical conduct and racial discrimination in medicine primarily because
of two reasons. First, the subjects were never told that they had syphilis and thus, informed consent
did not play any role in this experiment. Secondly, the subjects were told that they were being treated
for bad blood , a term used in the local language for various illnesses such as anemia and fatigue. In
reality, however, the officials never treated the subjects for syphilis. The subjects were only provided
free medical exams, free meals and burial insurance in return for their participation in the study. The
only permission which was taken from the subjects was that to autopsy their body after death as also
paying for their burial. Thus, the Tuskegee experiment can be described as non therapeutic experiment
that lasted for a very long duration of 40 years. (Reverby, S.M., 2009)
It draws our attention to a very important factor of racial discrimination. The concept of race,
however, was not initiated because of

Pride In The Song Of Roland And Beowulf
Pride usually carries negative connotations. It is an arrogant, malicious trait which can lead to a person
s ruin. Pride, however, can also be a source of positive motivation. It can encourage its host to perform
great feats and thus obtain honor. This duality possessed by pride can be examined in two famous
Medieval poems, The Song of Roland and Beowulf. The protagonists of both poems suffer their
demise because of their insatiable pride. However, in both works, this hubris is perceived differently.
Indeed, Roland s pride causes the death of the forty thousand men encompassing the rearguard army,
and yet no resentment is shown towards him. On the contrary, he is buried and honored like a saint,
the holiest of heroes. Beowulf disregards exhortations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heaven swallowed the smoke. (Beowulf, ll. 3151 55)
In this harrowing lament, there is no inherent sorrow for the loss of Beowulf s life. The pain felt by the
Geats is selfish and they have no other choice but to be selfish. They are completely alone, left in a
mortal coil of despair, without any sanctuary, hope or release. The sentence Heaven swallowed the
smoke is an allusion to this very idea, for Beowulf, now made smoke by the crimson fire of the pyre,
has forsaken his Geatland for the next life. This abandonment is a direct cause of his stubborn,
insatiable pride and the Geats are aware of this.
This resentment is apparent in the words of Wiglaf, who reflecting on the way Beowulf died, says,
Often when one man follows his own will, many are hurt. This happened to us. Nothing we advised
could ever convince the prince we loved... (Beowulf, ll. 3077 80) This is not the only mentioning of
the dangers of rigid arrogance, for the poet foreshadows the ruin that will befall the nation due to
Beowulf s foolish ego. While celebrating the defeat of Grendel s mother, Hrothgar interrupts the
cheerful mood of the feast and warns Beowulf of pride and callousness. He gives his own experience
with Grendel as a testament to the horror such arrogance can cause not only to one s self but one s
people. Obviously. Beowulf does not follow the exhortation, and not only does he meet his demise,
but ensures his people s end as

David Assay Interview
It s a well known fact that college is one of the most memorable experiences in life, and one of the
most anticipated. I had interviewed David Tanaka about his college adventure. He s witty, energetic
young man working as a sixth grade social studies teacher at Kalama Intermediate. He was my sixth
grade English teacher, the best one I ve ever had. We were really close in my first year of middle
school, mostly because I didn t really have friends at the time so I always hung out in his classroom. I
got dropped off at Kalama after school a few days ago and walked inside his classroom, pausing when
I saw a bunch of teachers inside, talking. Some of the them had had me as a student, so it was a nice
reunion. Once they filed out of the classroom, I interviewed Mr. Tanaka, who was a little preoccupied
with eating the Lilikoi muffin I brought for him.
He had gone to the University of Putrid Sound, Washington State right after high school. At first, he
was just waiting to get out of the house for some personal space. Growing up with a house of six could

The History of African Americans in Film Essay
Minstrel shows were developed in the 1840 s and reached its peak after the Civil War. They managed
to remain popular into the early 1900s. The Minstrel shows were shows in which white performers
would paint their faces black and act the role of an African American. This was called black facing.
The minstrel show evolved from two types of entertainment popular in America before 1830: the
impersonation of blacks given by white actors between acts of plays or during circuses, and the
performances of black musicians who sang, with banjo accompaniment, in city streets. The father of
American minstrelsy was Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice, who between 1828 and 1831 developed a

songs with harmonized choruses, the exchange of jokes between the endmen and the performer in the
center seat (Mr. Interlocutor), and the introduction of special variety acts at the conclusion of the bill.
Though many of these shows claimed that these were true African American songs that had been
brought back by people who had observed plantation slaves, this wasn?t necessarily true. For example
one of the more common songs such as ?Jim Crow?by Thomas Rice was simply inspired by a crippled
African American that Rice had seen dancing and singing a song with the chorus of ?Wheel about, an
turn about, an do jis so, Eb ry time I wheel about, I jump Jim Crow.? Many people were lead to
believe that this was how every African American sang and danced and failed to realize that this was
simply the way one man did it. Actual African American actors were rare at the time. There were only
a few African Americans that actually appeared on stage and those who did only had minor roles such
as servants or shoe shiners. This was mainly because the world was used to African Americans being
slaves doing jobs such as these and people weren?t ready to accept African Americans as equals yet.
There had however been several attempts of African American stage performance such as New York?s
African Grove theater. This theater was founded

The Importance Of The Heroic Tale Of Sundiata
Throughout history, storytellers have used fantastic fables to entertain his or her audience. Filled with
larger than life characters and amazing tales of heroism, on the surface these fables simply seem like
mass entertainment much in the same way comic book heroes entertain us today on the silver screen.
However, most of the time these epic, fantastic tales have a much deeper purpose for both the
storyteller and the audience. While the stories aim to entertain, more importantly, the epic tales exist to
hand down crucial histories from generation to generation. This is important to the culture in which
the story takes place, and is a true observation for the story of Sundiata, the founding of the Mali
Empire, and the descendants of these Mali people. While on the surface, the story is a heroic tale of
Sundiata s early life as he overcomes many obstacles, defeats mystical and magical foes, and finally
emerges triumphant, it is really a tale designed to teach the audience the history of the Mali Empire
and the values and culture of the Mali people. This is tremendously important to the Mali people back
when the story was first told and is still important to them today.
As a historical oral epic, the tale of Sundiata tells the reader the story of the creation of the Mali
Empire. The events of the tale take place during the early 13th century and detail the early, difficult
life of Sundiata up until his final victory over the evil Soros. After this victory, Sundiata

the events of Operation Eagle Claw (a rescue mission) the mistakes made, lessons learned, and
alternate outcomes. Operation Eagle Claw was essentially doomed from the beginning. President
Carter hastily authorized a Joint Forces operation which inevitably failed due to lack of understanding
and training between the forces. There was no single point of failure for the mission; it was across the
board, from training to planning, intelligence collection, and time. Planning November 4, 1979 was
the day that led to a disastrous mission for the United States. On this day 52 Americans were taken
hostage in the United States embassy in Tehran (Helicopter History Site 1997). The United States
spent months trying to negotiate the release of the hostages, while formulating a rescue operation in
the event negotiations failed. March 31st Recon elements went over to evaluate and establish a
landing area that would accommodate EC 130 s. The landing area, known as Desert One (figure 1),
was a staging area in Khorasan Province Iran. Desert One, was equipped with remotely operated Infra
red lights and strobes to allow the pilots to see the improvised runway with night vision goggles.
During the recon, soil samples were gathered to ensure the EC 130 s would be able to land, at the time
of the recon, the landing strip was hard packed sand (Helicopter History Site 1997). With negotiations

Notes On Bond And Bond Rating
Introduction to bond and bond ratings A bond is a form of debt in which you loan your money to a
company, city, or government and in return they agree to return the money to you after an agreed upon
time, with payments of interest to you while they hold your money (Wall Street Journal, 2015). There
are many different kinds of bonds, and they are sold to fund various different projects. Bonds are seen
as a safe investment and also offer investors a steady stream of income from the interest payments.
Although this may be the case for some bonds, it isn t the case for all bonds that are issued. This is
where the bond ratings system comes into play. Bond rating is a system used to provide investors with
an idea of the risk they are taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ratings for bonds are provided by three major rating agencies: Standard Poor s Corporation,
Moody s Investors Services and Fitch s Investor Services (Brigham Houston). Each use quantitative
and qualitative information to ensure that an accurate rating has been provided to investors.
Factors that determine bond ratings When a rating agency examines a firm s bonds, they must look at
various different factors that will help to paint a much larger picture of the financial health of the firm.
An agency will use quantitative factors to look at the history of the firm and while using qualitative
factors to look to the future stability of a firm and its ability to follow through on its contractual
obligations to bond holders (Brigham Houston, 2013) The quantitative factors an analyst would use
include ratios that evaluate the company s ability to payout what s owed to bondholders. These ratios
include the total debt to total capital ratio, which verifies the amount of capital provided by debt
holders, and the times interest earned ratio, which evaluates a company s ability to pay out interest
owed to bondholders (Brigham Houston, 2013). This information can then be used to help create
forecasted financial statements, which shed light on the ability to not only meet current liabilities, but
to continue to meet them for years to come. The qualitative factors are based on the quality of the
firm, the product, and the leadership. This can include

David Compare And Contrast Bernini And Michelangelo
Art has been around for thousands of years. Each piece has its own unique style and inspiration based
on a multitude of factors. In earlier eras several artists gained inspiration from religion, especially
biblical stories. Michelangelo and Bernini were both inspired by the biblical hero David, but the art
styles inspired by their different time periods set them apart.
Michelangelo created David in 1501 04 during the renaissance era. The renaissance is characterized
by a rebirth of classical learning, a rediscovery of ancient authors, a recovery of scientific inquiry,
religious wars, colonization and state reform. Michelangelo s David was sculpted out of marble to be
17 4 tall. It was commissioned for the Florence Cathedral but, ended up in the Piazza Della Signoria
until it was later placed in the Galleria dell Accademia.

The counter reformation is characterized by conservative forces aiming to reform the church and

Bernini s David uses line by having the eye follow the curved line based on the pose created. The
shape of the piece is made more prominent by the space around the piece. The mass of the sculpture
can be clearly seen based on the fact that it is a 3D art work. The texture of the sculpture can be seen
in the hair and cloth covering David. The space surrounding the piece accentuates the curved pose.
The value in the piece is seen in the lower part of the body and the cloth that is falling off the body.

The Five Competitive Forces That Shape Strategy
Central Theme In the article, The Five Competitive Forces that Shape Strategy, Michael Porter argues
that the five forces are an important element for managers and investors in the business industry.
Porter stated that it is important to understand the competitive forces, and their underlying causes
which many companies will use to determine if they will gain profit or not (Porter 80). Companies
determine their profitability of the industry through the level of the force that they face. For instance,
when the forces are favorable, most companies will be profitable. Porter gives a detail description of
the five forces and explains the importance of each force. The five forces are the threats of new
entrants, the power of the buyers, the power of the suppliers, the threats of substitute for products or
services, and the rivalry among existing competitors. Porter believes that a company strategist who
understands the competition extends well beyond existing rivals will detect wider competitive threats
and be better equipped to address them (Porter 93). In other words, when strategists understand the
different forces it will benefit them to make better decisions and to be ready to face the different
challenges between competitors. In the article, Porter s main goal is to present the importance of the
five forces to the audience.
Critical Analysis There are many strengths and weaknesses in this article. One of the major strengths
is that Porter organize his arguments in

The few voices that did express concern went unheard, that is until the writings of Ralph Waldo
Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, John Burroughs, Sigurd Olson, and Archibald MacLeish (Cantrill

many great thinkers that followed. Other notable naturalists and politicians that sought for
preservation of the land include John Muir, David Brower, Joseph LeConte, Aldo Leopold, George

Promotion of Yosemite for preservation was backed by an unlikely source, supporters of the expansion
of the railroad system, which granted additional land to the Union Pacific and Central Pacific so they
could follow through on their grand plans to build a steam powered transcontinental connection

unlimited building both residential and commercial entities that deteriorated America s forests.
Awareness for the pristine nature and wildlife in the Yellowstone region received similar accolade and
concern for preservation as Yosemite (see Bossen, 1982; DeLuca Demo, 2000; Jacoby, 2001; National

Yosemite, other photographers were motivated to advocate on behalf of the land. William Henry
Jackson made numerous photos of Yellowstone for the U.S. Geological Survey and lobbied Congress
for preservation of the region. In 1872, President Ulysses Grant signed into law the Yellowstone Act
that set aside more than two million acres of land. This was the first land designated by the federal
administration set aside for a national park accessible for all the nation s people for all time (Cahn,

The Importance Of Being Earnest And Oscar Wilde s The Man...
Never speak disrespectfully of Society, Algernon. Only people who can t get into it do that, Lady

attitudes of marriage for economic or social gain, of men s preferable position over women, and of the
superiority of the middle class in their respective works.
In the Victorian Era, marriage in the middle class functioned as another institute in which to acquire
property. The Man of Property provides plenty examples of this. Soames, the man of property himself,
considered his wife Irene as part of his property. He was continually frustrated when he did not own
her as it was his right to own her, that he could not, as by stretching out his hand to that rose, pluck her
and sniff the very secrets of her heart. (PAGE). Galsworthy satirized the belief of Soames, and his
class, by showing how greedy and selfish he sounds when depicting Victorian ideals of marriage. In

Child Support Research Papers
Child support is the defined as the monthly payments made by the non custodial parent to help cover
the financial care of their child or children. Those payments go to the custodial parent, caregiver, or
guardian. In family law, child support is usually arranged during a dissolution of marriage, divorce, or
after the determination of paternity.
Typically, there are no gender requirements when it comes to paying child support. For example, a
child s father may pay the mother or mother can pay the father. Where there is joint custody, the child
is considered to have two custodial parents instead of only one, and then one of the custodial parents
will still be deemed responsible for paying monthly child support.

Spanish And Aztec Cultural Encounter

Spanish and Aztec Cultural Encounter
On November 8, 1519, Spanish leader, Hernan Cortes landed in modern day Mexico, bringing along
six hundred Spaniards and a lot of native allies. The Aztecs, who were natives in Mexico, welcomed
Cortez with opened arms because they believed he was one of their gods, Quetzalcoatl. From the
beginning, they were willing to share their land and wealth with the Spaniards but they Spaniards did
not want to share this land and began to continue with their plan to conquer the land. Throughout this
two year campaign where the Spanish and Aztecs were fighting for ownership of the land, and after
thousands of people killed, the Spanish conquered the land, seizing the existence of the Aztec Empire.
This cultural encounter changed the lives of both the Aztec and Spaniards greatly by the change in
language, religion, and the benefits this take over had on the Spanish Empire. Once central Mexico
was taken over by the Spaniards, the use of the Aztec language, Nahuatl, was quickly put to an end.
The Spaniards saw that the two different languages kept a separation between the two cultures and
decided to force everyone under the Spanish rule to speak Spanish. Spanish is still the language
spoken in Mexico even after all of the different attacks and takeovers. The Aztec s did not like this
idea of taking away their language. Most of them were grown adults and had all they had known was

After watching it, and knowing more about true appreciation of film I get it, so to speak.
Watching a film takes so much more than just escaping from your own life for a few hours. Being able
to turn your brain off and say, Ok. I get to live in this other world for the day. This is my life for a day.
Film is only about escaping in the sense that a message must escape from the scenes, and the story as a
whole. It may never cross the lips of any of the characters, or be written in white on a black screen (as
in black and whites), and it won t be mystically entered into your computerized mind, or sent as a
message to your iPhone. No...to get the message of the film you have to watch and know what to look
for the subtle nuances and the mise en scene, everything that is in a particular frame, because those are
the clues and you are the detective. You must find universal truth and your own personal growth from
what you take from the movie. Some movies do a poor job of sending a message and those are the
movies that people watch and forget to learn from them. Other are too complex. Citizen Kane is
perfect because you can learn everything you ever needed to know about how to analyze a film from
it, and it is such a beautifully simple story, with complex characters, making the everyday important,
just as it should be in our own lives.

Pathophysiology questions (50 points)

1. Discuss the magnitude of bacteremia and sepsis in hospitalized patients and the relationship
between these two diagnoses. (5 points)
Septic shock is the leading cause of death for patients in intensive care units and is the final stage in a
continuum of infectious and inflammatory processes. This continuum begins with bacteremia, which
is the presence of bacteria in the blood. Normally the body s immune system can fight off a localized
infection caused by a small amount of bacteria in the blood and the person will remain asymptomatic.

The systemic inflammatory response is the next step in the continuum and is a nonspecific
inflammatory state that may be seen with an infection. Sepsis is the presence of the systemic
inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) with evidence of infection. As the bacteria invade the
bloodstream, they release endotoxins that damage the endothelial cell lining and impair the vascular
system, coagulation mechanism, and immune system. These endotoxins also trigger the immune and
inflammatory responses, which results in the activation of macrophages and CD4 cells that release
proinflammatory cytokines to create a systemic inflammatory response to the pathogen. Hospitalized
patients may quickly progress from bacteremia to sepsis and finally to septic shock, even with
treatment.
2. What are the risk factors for infection and development of septic shock? Identify those that applied
to Mr. Roberts. (5 points)
Risk factors for infection can be anything that suppresses the ability of the host to resist the infectious
pathogen, including the following: drugs, such as steroids and chemotherapy; disorders that affect the
innate and adaptive immune responses, such as cancer, leukopenia, and HIV/AIDS; and a breakdown
of the first line of defense, such a trauma, broken skin, or surgical wounds. Patients are at risk for
developing sepsis and septic shock if they are very old or very young and have and inability to fight
off the infection. Some other risk factors for the

The Six Different Stages Of Group Development
Group development can be defined as a group of people work together. Group members are
interdependent. In other words, they build as a team to accomplish goals. Again, it is known as team
building. It is frameworks to recognize behavioral patterns of team and understand causes of changes.
Furthermore, group development helps team to increase productivity. There are six different stages of
group development such as formation of group, initial stage, transition stage, working stage, final
stage and follow up stage.
2.1 FORMATION OF GROUP First stage of group development is formation of group. In this stage,
group members feel delighted to join the group. It means they are eager to be part of the team. On the
other hand, they are worried of how to adapt themselves in new environment. But, it is compulsory for
them to gather together. Therefore, forming of group is available when they first meet. From there,
they build trust between each other. This is to let them feel they are part of group members. There are
few steps to form a group such as developing rationale, deciding theoretical format, practical

well, it enhances group performance. Group members must have both high competence and mission. It
makes significant progress towards the goals. On the other hand, group leader should provide group
members chances to receive feedback of how the group is doing. Through proper feedback, it brings

The following statement would indicate faraday s reputation in popularity, Faraday s lectures were so
popular that they had to have one way traffic near Albemarle street, (Falconer, DVD, 2008). It is
therefore a tempting thought that Faraday was an early pioneer in teaching methods and would not
look out of place in schools and television today. However, chapter four comments about other
lecturers development of similar styles of teaching, or performing to entertain the audience,
(Falconer,James, 2008). Therefore, one can only imagine that there was much competition and that
Faraday was aware of that and would encourage him to find new ways to attract the audience, which
in many ways is like a competition between television networks today. Dr Falconer, suggested in the
DVD that Faraday had had elocution lessons it was a realisation that he must have been conscience of
how he sounded to other lecturers and this was probable because of his poorer background and would
prove his need to better his performance for his reputation, (Falconer, DVD, 2008). The comparison
between the passage in the assignment book and the picture portrayed in chapter four are of a very
similar view of who and what Faraday was. These achieve the impression of the general public seeing

T. S. Eliot Prufrock Research Paper
T.S.Eliot wrote Prufrock poem six years before its publication in the Egoist 1917. From the first
glance at the poem one can figure out the personal touches of its writer who genuinely described the
days and nights of the places, streets and cities that he had been to. It probably was Eliot himself to
nourish such rich observations from his abundant experience; Mathiessen describes it as Prufrock
seems to spring from Eliot s detached super cultivated fastidious young man from Harvard;
(Mathiessen, 1958, 59).
Despite the fact that T.S.Eliot has called for the impersonality of poetry yet, all the assets in this poem
of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock infer that of T.S. Eliot himself.

There are countless facets and aspects when it comes to airport operations. The safety aspect is no different. Airports must keep a positive representation in the media and keeping all areas as safe as possible is paramount. The overall safety operations of an airport would simply be too much try convey so instead, this research paper focuses on a large subsection KATL safety known as ramp operations. It follows along and details different aspects of the Ramp Safety Standards Manual created by the Department of Aviation for the city of Atlanta. In doing so, the paper provides a clear view of how ramp operations at KATL relate to system safety. System Safety of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport Ramp Operations Introduction Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been deemed the busiest airport in the world for the past 17 years straight (Mutzabaugh, 2015). One huge aspect of having such consistent success over the years has been the airport s ability to maintain a safe and secure working environment. This is particularly important on the airside of the airport where aircrafts are continually turning, burning, and finding their place among the many gates of the terminal. More specifically, the ramp at KATL is a complex stretch of concrete where aircraft, flight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Girl Interrupted Research Paper The movie Girl, Interrupted is about a young woman named Susanne, who struggles with life and depression. When she attempts suicide, she is sent to a mental institution, where the psychiatrist diagnosed her with borderline personality disorder (Mangold, 1999). This disorder s symptoms include instability in relationships, identity disturbance, impulsivity, emotional instability, and chronic feelings of emptiness (National Institute of Mental Health, 2013). What is personality? What causes a person to have a personality disorder? Why do people behave and think differently and what influences these behaviors? There have been many theorists who have tried to find the answers to these questions. Research has produced many theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Attention is the set of processes through which a person focuses on incoming information. These people define problem solving as operating within constraints and reaching a goal from a starting state that is nowhere near the goal (Riegler, Riegler, 2009). Decision making is an interaction of these processes to make a decision. Each of these mental processes can be difficult to understand, but the human brain does most of the work without any one individual having to put too much effort into making it happen. Everyone s mental process is different and unique from the next person, which is correlated to each individual s personality and how these traits influences these different behaviors. Take, for example, Susanne in Girl, Interrupted . Susanne talked often about having detailed thought about suicide, and the requirements of a successful suicide, and then attempted suicide followed by denial. Aspects of personality can change throughout life, and are influenced by both internal factors (genetics) and external factors (environment). Other aspects, such as temperament, or stable individual differences in emotional reactivity, remain the same. Personality theories have many differences, however, one aspect of personality that many theorists agree upon is that genetic factors influence their child s personality. Specifically, how they are influences and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Themes Presented in Shakespeare s Tragic Play Romeo and... Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays in history, which is written by William Shakespeare. This play is Shakespeare s first play about tragedy. Romeo and Juliet is a very deep and profound play about two star crossed lovers met at a ball. Within this play Shakespeare used deep, complex language to describe their insightful character also their actions towards each other. Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers from families who have set a grudge upon each other, in this complex piece of art William Shakespeare has put the protagonist within ruinous events where love is hard and where love has to be flawless. The plot of Romeo and Juliet is as I said earlier, about two star crossed lovers met at a ball. Although they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then Romeo realises that he made a fatal flaw. As Romeo dies Juliet s loneliness grows over her, from that she stabs her self with Romeo s sword and they both just lay their lifelessly. This play fits within the tragic genre because at Elizabethan times, tragic plays had to incorporate the death of the protagonist at the end, leaving the audience with a feeling of loss, regret and a hollow victory. In this case the protagonists are Romeo and Juliet. The themes that are embraced within this play are mostly arrogance, male pride, secrecy and physical violence. First of all arrogance is shown principally by Mercutio, given in act 3 scene 1, he insults Tybalt by calling him a ratcatcher . The word ratcatcher links in with Tybalt s name which means king of cats . He has much courage to insult the cousin of Romeo s love; also his arrogance overpowers his mind when he tries to scare Tybalt by giving the names of sword s moves ( passado ). To make this play fit more into the tragic genre, the arrogance also link in with another theme that Shakespeare has put in which is male pride. this is shown by several character but it is mainly shown by Romeo and Mercutio. As Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of the Situation The conflict I experienced with Raven will be analyzed by the psychodynamic theory and the attribution theory. The theories will be defined according to textbooks, peer reviewed scholarly articles, as well as an outside source book. I will use the conflict situation with my sister to demonstrate how each of the theories helps reveal aspects of the conflict. The first theory reviewed will be the psychodynamic theory. Psychodynamic Theory. The psychodynamic theory sheds light on the conflict between my sister, and me. Cahn and Abigail (2014) say that psychodynamic theory is people who experience conflict because of the tension arising from their intrapersonal (internal, psychological, emotional, and ... The conflict analysis previously described can be better understood applying the psychodynamic theory. After thinking about the conflict, I have come to conclusion that my sister displaced conflict. Raven asserted the hardship that she was currently going through and after analyzing the psychodynamic theory, I realized that she was taking her frustration out on the wrong people. Over those past couple of days, she has continually been building up her anger and she should have explained her frustration with her friend that she was having issues with. After the fact, Raven realized that she displaced her conflict. She made apologies to me because she felt bad that I had to deal with her attitude and drive her home. Raven let her internal state of mind dictate our interaction. The battle between her id and superego she experienced was from her not being able to keep friends. This then lead to anxiety, repression and frustration. Knowing the type of relationship, we have, I believe that I was an easy target for her to take her frustration out on. According to Lesser (1978), despite the very basic fact that siblings spend at least as much time together as parents do with their children (p. 40). • 6. The Theory Of Self Advocacy 100% accuracy during five trial periods which is connected with his Postsecondary goal that after his graduation from high school, Bobby will independently use public transportation in the community. Teachers can monitor the student s progress on the goal by gathering information on a form that requires minimal time and effort to complete without sacrificing accuracy. The data survey form can contain student s performance during this event, frequency of needed reminders, and supports that have been given to help the student with this specific skill. By utilizing a self monitoring checklist, the student can take an active role in observing progress towards achievement of the goal. The concept of self advocacy also can be expressed in the student s selection of short term and long term goals which not only pertain to course selection and steps needed to achieve success in those courses but also how courses go hand in hand with the selection of his/her postsecondary environment (2 or 4 year college, vocational setting, military, or straight into employment) and career. Student s input is very important because in order for the student to demonstrate optimal internal motivation (student achieving satisfaction from the action), the student must have vested interest in achieving the goal. In order to pursue an activity and possible internal or external reward, the student must value the skill that will be accomplished by the action. They break the motivation intertwined ... • 7. Golden Age Of Islam Essay The Golden Age of Islam As Western Europe deviated from the chaos of Rome, a golden age began to rise in Islam. It was a time of peace and knowledge, where economy, art, and cultural works flourished. Where mosques were covered in elaborate mosaics, where enormous libraries held thousands of books, and where inventions and innovations were abundant. This golden age was created and made possible by the perception of God in Islam, the effect of religion, and the growing importance of literacy. Allah, the one true God of Islam, is transcendent unlike the Christian God who is perceived in human form. To fathom Allah, one would need intelligence, intuitive knowledge of God, and some sense of imagination. Allah can be perceived in nature and human epiphanies. This understanding of God, led the Islamic scholars to be more observant in nature and to discover things on their own. The fundamental beliefs in Islam can be summarized by the six articles of faith: belief in one God (Allah), belief in Angels, belief in the Prophets (Adam, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammed), belief in the Holy Books (Torah, Bible, ... Writing the words of the Qu ran was a way for them to worship Allah and receive divine blessings at the same time. • 10. Information Security Management And Maintenance ASSESSMENT OF BREACH There were a number of factors that contributed to the breach, which had they been addressed or had corresponding mitigation responses in place, would have reduced the likelihood that the breach would have taken place, or at a minimum reduce the impact of the attack. These items range from policy related issues, technology implementations, and security management and maintenance. Although I believe a number of these areas were in the process of being addressed, based on the information gathered regarding the details of the incident, it appears that it was still in many areas insufficient and would not have prevented an incident even if there had been more time available to perform the implementations. To start, there were significant issues regarding the OPM and its solutions to deficiencies found during their regular audits. These issues show a lack of Information Security management and maintenance. This is made clear in an article by ABC News that at the time of the Senate hearings regarding the OPM breach, Only a few of the inspector general s 29 recommendations for improvement have since been implemented ( OPM chief angry over hack, 2015). Evaluate The Social And Economic Effects Of The Berlin Wall The Berlin wall had a massive impact on east and West Germany, socially, economically and how the contrast between them affected each other when the wall fell. On 13 August 1961, a wall was erected through Berlin, named the Berlin Wall. The wall completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany. I will be evaluating the social and economic impacts the Berlin Wall had on East and West Germany when it got built, and how they affected each other after the wall fell. Before the wall Germany has recently been defeated in World War II this caused Soviets, Americans, British and French to hold a conference meeting to decide the division of Germany. They decided to divide Germany into four zones one for each. France, the U.S. and Britain were guaranteed access to their zones in Berlin, even though they had to pass through the Soviet zone to get there. But the differing ideology of the Soviets and their former allies became apparent almost immediately. Soviets controlled most of East Europe and started to install communist governments in nations like Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. But people started to flee the harsh strict rule of these countries. 2.6 million East Germans had escaped to West Germany. This had a devastating effect on East Germany because the majority of the people who left were young skilled people, such as intellectuals, doctors and engineers. Breast Reconstruction Research Paper Kayla Walker Breast Reconstruction Surgery 3853: Sociology of the Body March 10, 2016 Breast Reconstruction Surgery In this paper, I will examine the origins of breast reconstruction as well as evaluate the overall surgery amongst women, surgeons and our society today. The treatment of breast cancer has improved remarkably from the original surgeries that were developed by Halsted (Uroskie Colen, 2004). The techniques such as Gilles walking flap or the idea behind the reshaping of a breast mound from the free perforated flap using internal tissue have been advanced and solidified in our current surgical society (Uroskie et al., 2004). This is when the surgeon uses tissues, flap , such as skin, fat or muscle from another part of your body in order to reconstruct your breast tissue ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). In the free flap process the tissue is taken from the original blood vessels and moved onto the chest area whereas the pedicled flap remains attached to the original blood vessel and moved underneath the skin to the new placement on the chest ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). The pedicled flap tends to be the surgery more widely available due to the fact that if you have a free flap surgery then your surgeon must be trained in microsurgery, which typically involves being able to reattach the tissues blood vessels to the chest area to sustain blood supply ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). These kinds of reconstruction surgeries tend to be more sought after because the tissue from different places in the body last a lifetime whereas the implants most women receive have to be replaced every 10 or 20 years ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , 2015). Overall, the effects from each of these surgeries highly depend on your body type as well as daily activities, physical strength and the range of motion within the limbs of the body; therefore, what works for one individual does not always work for another ( Autologous or Flap Reconstruction , ... (Reverby, S.M., 2009) This study was a symbol of unethical conduct and racial discrimination in medicine primarily because of two reasons. First, the subjects were never told that they had syphilis and thus, informed consent did not play any role in this experiment. Secondly, the subjects were told that they were being treated for bad blood , a term used in the local language for various illnesses such as anemia and fatigue. In reality, however, the officials never treated the subjects for syphilis. The subjects were only provided free medical exams, free meals and burial insurance in return for their participation in the study. The only permission which was taken from the subjects was that to autopsy their body after death as also paying for their burial. • 14. Pride In The Song Of Roland And Beowulf Pride usually carries negative connotations. It is an arrogant, malicious trait which can lead to a person s ruin. Pride, however, can also be a source of positive motivation. It can encourage its host to perform great feats and thus obtain honor. This duality possessed by pride can be examined in two famous Medieval poems, The Song of Roland and Beowulf. The protagonists of both poems suffer their demise because of their insatiable pride. However, in both works, this hubris is perceived differently. Indeed, Roland s pride causes the death of the forty thousand men encompassing the rearguard army, and yet no resentment is shown towards him. (Beowulf, ll. 3151 55) In this harrowing lament, there is no inherent sorrow for the loss of Beowulf s life. The pain felt by the Geats is selfish and they have no other choice but to be selfish. They are completely alone, left in a mortal coil of despair, without any sanctuary, hope or release. The sentence Heaven swallowed the smoke is an allusion to this very idea, for Beowulf, now made smoke by the crimson fire of the pyre, has forsaken his Geatland for the next life. This abandonment is a direct cause of his stubborn, insatiable pride and the Geats are aware of this. This resentment is apparent in the words of Wiglaf, who reflecting on the way Beowulf died, says, Often when one man follows his own will, many are hurt. This happened to us. Nothing we advised could ever convince the prince we loved... (Beowulf, ll. 3077 80) This is not the only mentioning of the dangers of rigid arrogance, for the poet foreshadows the ruin that will befall the nation due to Beowulf s foolish ego. While celebrating the defeat of Grendel s mother, Hrothgar interrupts the cheerful mood of the feast and warns Beowulf of pride and callousness. He was my sixth grade English teacher, the best one I ve ever had. Once they filed out of the classroom, I interviewed Mr. Tanaka, who was a little preoccupied with eating the Lilikoi muffin I brought for him. The Minstrel shows were shows in which white performers would paint their faces black and act the role of an African American. This was called black facing. The minstrel show evolved from two types of entertainment popular in America before 1830: the impersonation of blacks given by white actors between acts of plays or during circuses, and the performances of black musicians who sang, with banjo accompaniment, in city streets. Though many of these shows claimed that these were true African American songs that had been brought back by people who had observed plantation slaves, this wasn?t necessarily true. For example one of the more common songs such as ?Jim Crow?by Thomas Rice was simply inspired by a crippled African American that Rice had seen dancing and singing a song with the chorus of ?Wheel about, an turn about, an do jis so, Eb ry time I wheel about, I jump Jim Crow.? Many people were lead to believe that this was how every African American sang and danced and failed to realize that this was simply the way one man did it. Actual African American actors were rare at the time. There were only a few African Americans that actually appeared on stage and those who did only had minor roles such as servants or shoe shiners. Filled with larger than life characters and amazing tales of heroism, on the surface these fables simply seem like mass entertainment much in the same way comic book heroes entertain us today on the silver screen. However, most of the time these epic, fantastic tales have a much deeper purpose for both the storyteller and the audience. While the stories aim to entertain, more importantly, the epic tales exist to hand down crucial histories from generation to generation. This is important to the culture in which the story takes place, and is a true observation for the story of Sundiata, the founding of the Mali Empire, and the descendants of these Mali people. While on the surface, the story is a heroic tale of Sundiata s early life as he overcomes many obstacles, defeats mystical and magical foes, and finally emerges triumphant, it is really a tale designed to teach the audience the history of the Mali Empire and the values and culture of the Mali people. This is tremendously important to the Mali people back when the story was first told and is still important to them today. As a historical oral epic, the tale of Sundiata tells the reader the story of the creation of the Mali Empire. Even though the sun is shining bright enough to make me close my curtains against the afternoon heat through the glass, it is bitter cold outside. It seems strange how one week it can be warm enough to run around the yard coatless chasing my dog and the next we are bundled up like eskimos in the far north. The wind blew so severely last week that I spent the better part of the day recording lines replaced and other damages noted on the docks by our maintenance team. Thankfully, no real damage was had. I tried walking on the docks during the worse of it, but being a landlubber, I found myself slightly seasick from just the small time out there. Perfect person to be working at a Marina ... • 30. Spanish And Aztec Cultural Encounter Reagan Black HIST 1312 02 Dr. Christopher Richmann April 10, 2016 Spanish and Aztec Cultural Encounter On November 8, 1519, Spanish leader, Hernan Cortes landed in modern day Mexico, bringing along six hundred Spaniards and a lot of native allies. The Aztecs, who were natives in Mexico, welcomed Cortez with opened arms because they believed he was one of their gods, Quetzalcoatl. From the beginning, they were willing to share their land and wealth with the Spaniards but they Spaniards did not want to share this land and began to continue with their plan to conquer the land. Throughout this two year campaign where the Spanish and Aztecs were fighting for ownership of the land, and after thousands of people killed, the Spanish conquered the land, seizing the existence of the Aztec Empire. This cultural encounter changed the lives of both the Aztec and Spaniards greatly by the change in language, religion, and the benefits this take over had on the Spanish Empire. Once central Mexico was taken over by the Spaniards, the use of the Aztec language, Nahuatl, was quickly put to an end. The Spaniards saw that the two different languages kept a separation between the two cultures and decided to force everyone under the Spanish rule to speak Spanish. Spanish is still the language spoken in Mexico even after all of the different attacks and takeovers. The Aztec s did not like this idea of taking away their language. Most of them were grown adults and had all they had known was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I M an Entertainment Person The term mise en scene is used to signify the director s control over what appears in the film frame (1) and covers such elements as setting, lighting, costume and the movement and actions of figures appearing within the film. The iconic Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941), a biopic that traces the life of fictional newspaper magnate Charles Kane, uses the elements of mise en scene to reinforce loss as a recurring theme throughout the film. As a faceless reporter goes about collecting personal recounts of Kane, the stories told suggest that throughout the majority of his life, Kane was moving inevitably toward [an inner state of] bitterness, disappointment and loss (2). Watching a film takes so much more than just escaping from your own life for a few hours. Being able to turn your brain off and say, Ok. I get to live in this other world for the day. This is my life for a day. Film is only about escaping in the sense that a message must escape from the scenes, and the story as a whole. It may never cross the lips of any of the characters, or be written in white on a black screen (as in black and whites), and it won t be mystically entered into your computerized mind, or sent as a message to your iPhone. No...to get the message of the film you have to watch and know what to look for the subtle nuances and the mise en scene, everything that is in a particular frame, because those are the clues and you are the detective. You must find universal truth and your own personal growth from what you take from the movie. Some movies do a poor job of sending a message and those are the movies that people watch and forget to learn from them. Other are too complex. Citizen Kane is perfect because you can learn everything you ever needed to know about how to analyze a film from it, and it is such a beautifully simple story, with complex characters, making the everyday important, just as it should be in our own lives. Discuss the magnitude of bacteremia and sepsis in hospitalized patients and the relationship between these two diagnoses. (5 points) Septic shock is the leading cause of death for patients in intensive care units and is the final stage in a continuum of infectious and inflammatory processes. This continuum begins with bacteremia, which is the presence of bacteria in the blood. Normally the body s immune system can fight off a localized infection caused by a small amount of bacteria in the blood and the person will remain asymptomatic. The systemic inflammatory response is the next step in the continuum and is a nonspecific inflammatory state that may be seen with an infection. Sepsis is the presence of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) with evidence of infection. As the bacteria invade the bloodstream, they release endotoxins that damage the endothelial cell lining and impair the vascular system, coagulation mechanism, and immune system. These endotoxins also trigger the immune and inflammatory responses, which results in the activation of macrophages and CD4 cells that release proinflammatory cytokines to create a systemic inflammatory response to the pathogen. Hospitalized patients may quickly progress from bacteremia to sepsis and finally to septic shock, even with treatment. 2. What are the risk factors for infection and development of septic shock? Identify those that applied to Mr. Roberts. As you can see, this is where the story initially outlines the social justice chart (target, ally, bystander, and perpetrator). It shows us that Marcus is the target as he is the person on the receiving end of the imposed prejudice and that the DHS is the key perpetrator as it is the government organization that is imposing prejudice/bias towards a group of people. Although it is hard to notice, we can also find that the rules/laws that Marcus recites act as an ally because it attempts to interrupt the prejudice/bias being imposed. • 37. Faraday According to the author of this obituary, what aspects of Faraday s life and work contributed to his reputation? How does the picture presented in the obituary compare to the picture presented in Book 1, Chapter 4? There are two questions to answer for this TMA. To answer the first question one needs to know the definition of Reputation: the estimation in which a person or thing is generally held; opinion,(E. Dictionary, 2006). It is also necessary to know what in life and work contributed to his reputation. The second question, one needs to understand what it means to Compare: to regard or represent as analogues or similar; liken, (E.Dictionary, 2006). It is also necessary to examine and compare the two pictures. The picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following statement would indicate faraday s reputation in popularity, Faraday s lectures were so popular that they had to have one way traffic near Albemarle street, (Falconer, DVD, 2008). It is therefore a tempting thought that Faraday was an early pioneer in teaching methods and would not look out of place in schools and television today. However, chapter four comments about other lecturers development of similar styles of teaching, or performing to entertain the audience, (Falconer,James, 2008). Therefore, one can only imagine that there was much competition and that Faraday was aware of that and would encourage him to find new ways to attract the audience, which in many ways is like a competition between television networks today. Dr Falconer, suggested in the DVD that Faraday had had elocution lessons it was a realisation that he must have been conscience of how he sounded to other lecturers and this was probable because of his poorer background and would prove his need to better his performance for his reputation, (Falconer, DVD, 2008). The comparison between the passage in the assignment book and the picture portrayed in chapter four are of a very similar view of who and what Faraday was. These achieve the impression of the general public seeing Faraday, as a conjurer, or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. T. S. Eliot Prufrock Research Paper T.S.Eliot wrote Prufrock poem six years before its publication in the Egoist 1917. From the first glance at the poem one can figure out the personal touches of its writer who genuinely described the days and nights of the places, streets and cities that he had been to. It probably was Eliot himself to nourish such rich observations from his abundant experience; Mathiessen describes it as Prufrock seems to spring from Eliot s detached super cultivated fastidious young man from Harvard; (Mathiessen, 1958, 59). Despite the fact that T.S.Eliot has called for the impersonality of poetry yet, all the assets in this poem of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock infer that of T.S. Eliot himself.
