Law Enforcement Within The United States
Law Enforcement officers have one of the most critical jobs in the United States. Their lives are
always on the line and they are of high regards. This means they cannot fail! The results of their
jobs do not only depend on their actions but also on the people. What this means is the community
has a huge role when it comes to solving crime. Though many people may not believe it, they are
the key to a successful crime prevention community. The people of the United States don t really
understand both the positive and negative effects that community policing actually brings. Some
may say it is very dangerous based on their experiences. Others may say it s the best way to do
away with crime. Today the two will be compared and put to test by true officers serving our
country. The facts will be stated and questions will be answered. Let s take a look at what
community policing is really all about!
Law Enforcement within the United States is limited as many people may feel that it is a dangerous
job. With law enforcement being so limited there is one way the community can and has assisted
throughout the years. Community policing is the system of allocating police officers to particular
areas so that they become familiar with the local inhabitants. In other words community policing
allows law enforcement to be at high profile areas while the community who chooses to be
involved is the eyes and ears for law enforcement. In other words were there is crime the
community will

Fluid Retention Research Paper
Fluid is important to our body as it makes up the blood that circulates oxygen and nutrients to our
organs. Hydrates our tissues and eliminates waste products out of our body by urinating, breathe
and sweat. Our body requires the right amount of fluid in order to stay healthy. When there is too
much of fluids, the condition is called as fluid retention. Fluid retention pathophysiology is complex
and it involves both hemodynamic and clinical congestion. It is important for nurses to identify
fluid retention so that specific interventions can be carried out. When it comes to treatment of
removal of fluid retention, diuretic had been known to be the best drug of choice. Diuretic reduces
the risk of death and worsening of cardiac failure. Loop

The Character Analysis Of Guy Monttag, By Ray Bradbury
Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the
question when you are the answer (Campbell). Guy Montag is very dedicated to his work as a
fireman, he fits the stereotypical role due to his physical appearance. His job is to burn and
destroy illegal books. The book is named after the temperature at which book papers ignite.
Montag is prideful of his work, he burns everything to the ground, devoid of thinking or feeling.
Montag is the protagonist, although there are countless others who could have taken his place
as the protagonist; there were also others who fought against society, nevertheless he was the
one fireman that went against his ideals and changed significantly due to meeting Clarisse,
Faber and the old woman, because he was searching for the meaning of his existence. After
meeting Clarisse, Montag begins to question society. Clarisse is very straightforward and clear
to Montag. He said that he can see himself in her eyes. How rarely did other people s faces take
of you and throw back to your own expression, your own innermost trembling thought?
(Bradbury 11). She makes him aware that he never stops to think. He tells Mildred that Clarisse
was the first person I can remember who looked straight at me as if I counted (Bradbury 72).
Through his friendship with Clarisse McClellan, Montag recognizes how cruel society can be as
opposed to the joys of nature in which he rarely experiences. When Clarisse makes

The Sword In The Stone Analysis
I.SUBJECT The Sword in the Stone, by T. H. White, follows the adventures of The Wart, a boy
growing up in Medieval England. The Wart lives at the Castle of the Forest Sauvage with his
adoptive father, Sir Ector, and his foster brother, Kay. One day in the Forest Sauvage, The Wart
encounters an old man by the name of Merlyn who possesses magical capabilities. Merlyn offers
to return to the castle to serve as a tutor for The Wart and Kay. He teaches The Wart primarily by
transforming him into different animals. Through these transformations, The Wart broadens his
worldview, as well as learns the history of the world around him. Over the duration of The Wart s
scholarship, he undergoes a process of maturation. Six years pass, and both The Wart and Kay are
of age to assume their societal position. Since Kay is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
THEME T. H. White s The Sword in the Stone shows how the power of knowledge trumps
physical power. Merlyn, who is the predominant advocate for education, states that The best thing
for disturbances of the spirit ... is to learn. That is the only thing that never fails .... which the poor
mind can never exhaust... never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting (White 228).
Physical power can be limited and unreliable, whereas knowledge is infinitely expansive. The Wart
owes his success to the insight provided to him by Merlyn, and his ability to use it in juxtaposition
with his physical strengths. Merlyn utilizes unconventional means to teach The Wart, such as
transforming him into animals or sending him on quests. During one of the first lessons, Merlyn
tells The Wart Education is experience, and the essence of experience is self reliance (50). Merlyn
desires for The Wart to learn through his own affairs, thus developing a sense of independence. Due
to Merlyn s idiosyncratic means of instruction, The Wart gains experience and is able to formulate
his own thoughts. This subsequently allows for his education to flourish, and for future

Sale Of Goods Act 1979 Controls English Law Transactions
The Sale of Goods Act 1979 controls English law transactions between the purchaser and the
seller of goods; it also applies to contracts where involving a transfer of the property in goods or
an agreement to transfer a consideration in money. By s.13 SOGA 1979, where goods are sold
by description, the implication is that the goods will reflect the description. S.14 also states that
the seller of the goods must ensure that the goods sold are of satisfactory quality and also fit for
purpose. That is the daily purpose and other purposes that were specifically agreed upon
between the seller and buyer. The buyer is entitled to make a claim under the SOGA where the
goods fail to meet the requirement of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose the buyer is entitled
to make a claim S.15 deals with goods sold by sample which states that there is an implied term
that the goods will correspond to the sample quality. By s.13, it is necessary that goods sold by
description corresponds with the description given to it. Goods are sold by description where
the purchaser is relying on the description the seller the seller is providing since he has not seen
the goods. According to Lord Wright in Grant v Australian Knitting Mill there is a sale by
description even though the buyer is buying something displayed before him on the counter, a
thing is sold by description though it is specific so long as it is sold not merely as the specific
thing but as a thing corresponding to a

Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist And The Trial
Throughout life, events occur and mold us. Events that hold many achievements and hardships.
Events that causes us to adapt, hopefully, for the better. Events that becomes experiences, which
we learn from and evolve into a wiser self. However, these inspiring words and pithy phrases are
more suited for those who seek a generic answer. While we have these moments of triumph and
success, we also have terrors that reside on the opposite side of the spectrum. Moments of lasting
pain and trivial endeavors that leave an imprint on us unlike the moments of joy. It is through man
s isolation and pain that tell us not to talk to strangers or play with fire. Unfortunately, it is difficult
to explain the feelings of pain than it is of joy. Franz Kafkaexplores these feelings. Franz Kafka
journeys and displays the complicated genre of alienation and psychological tribulation of
mankind in his stories, The Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist, and The Trial. On July 3, 1883,
Franz Kafka was born to a mother who was oblivious to his ambitions and to a father who held
the family with vises. In the city of Prague, where he was born, he saw the true face of his father
within his household (Franz, par 1). A man who controlled everything and trivialized the aspect of
creativity and imagination. During school and work, he always aspired to become a writer.
However, he needed to have a stable job to continue his hobby of writing. Through his father s
personality, Kafka derived his stories and his

Leo Fender s Major Accomplishments
On August 10,1909 in Anaheim, California an amazing soon to be mechanic and founder of one of
the world s most recognizable guitar companies was born Clarence Leonidas Fender, better known
as Leo Fender.
The funny thing is that Leo Fender the founder of the world s most recognizable guitar company
who made guitars for a living never learned to play the guitar, he was a mechanic and a saxophonist.
Fender started his electronic hobby in his early teens. It all started when his uncle mailed him a
box. It contained a car battery and broken radio parts. Not knowing what to do with them, Leo set
off to Santa Maria, California to visit his uncle s mechanic shop. When Leo entered the shop, he
was fascinated with everything, especially the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his years working for Rickenbacker, he invented the Vibrola tailpiece (Another name for the
whammy which which creates a vibrato kind of sound on the guitar).
With Kauffman s experience and Fender s love for mechanics, he was convinced they would make a
great team. After a long conversation, Fender convinced Kauffman to team up with him. Together,
they started the K F Manufacturing Corporation . There they built and designed Hawaiian guitars
and amplifiers.
Their greatest success was in 1948 when they created the Fender Broadcaster. It was the first mass
produced solid body electric guitar made, which was renamed the Fender Telecaster in 1950.
Three years later (1951), he made the Fender Precision Bass. It is a solid body, four stringed bass
that is outfitted with a single split coil humbucking pickup and 20 fret neck. This set the trend for
most electric bass guitars.
Three years after the Precision Bass (1954), he made the Fender Stratocaster, which is still one of
the world s most recognizable electric guitars. It is a double cutaway guitar, with an extended top
horn shape for balance. Together, Kauffman and Fender made a great

Persuasive Essay On Love And Lust
Can love and lust go hand in hand? Certainly, life experiences will show us that it is possible to
be sexually attracted to someone, but to not love that person. Yet, life experiences will also show
us that we can be sexually attracted to someone and indeed love them very much. Ronald E.
Riggio, Ph.D. says lovedistinguishes from lust, because love, includes a desire for physical contact
and intimacy, but also caring about the other s needs as if they were your own. (Riggio, 2014)
Lust, as defined by Merriam Webster, as a noun, is as unbridled sexual desire. (Merriam Webster,
2017) There is no mention of lust being concerned about the other person s needs in that definition.
Love sounds, only so very loving, but we will see later it can take someone to extremes, that lust
cannot.
Remember, Riggio mentions, you consider the other person, and that it is not all about you
when you are dealing with love. Certainly, we see this scenario in love relationships that have
nothing to do with sex. As parents, we consider our children in our life choices, and with our
friends, if we are good friends indeed, we consider them in what we say and do. In love, there is
a relationship, in lust no relationship is required, because we can consider only ourselves,
because we are alone with ourselves. Compare love with what poet, Sharon Olds has to say about
lust. In her poem, Sex Without Love , she writes, they are like great runners; they know they are
alone (Olds, 1981) So lust

The Themes Of Poverty In Frank Mccourt s Angelas Ashes
Did you know that in the US alone, according to the Census Bureau that 14.5% of people live in
poverty today? Poverty is where you re at a point of being extremely poor. It makes life difficult
for these people living in poverty to get food, water and a healthy environment to live in. It ties
together with these excerpts because the main character and their family are going through
poverty. In these excerpts it involves the following; Frank McCourts The Street , and Ann
Petrys Angelas Ashes it shows in each excerpt how the main character is going through poverty
with their families, but yet still showing perseverance by not letting anything back them down
from helping their family. In Frank McCourts work Angelas Ashes , he creates the theme that
you ll show perseverance when in poverty where you ll do things you d expect not to do if not
in that situation. First in the excerpt Frank steals lemonade from the store. Showing
perseverance by not giving up, although he could be caught for stealing. I have 2 bottles of
Lemonade under my jersey. (McCourt 5). At the store, the main character frank is stealing food
and lemonade for his family. It shows perseverance because he s not giving up and doesn t mind
if he gets caught stealing. He wants to help his family that s in poverty and the author makes it
correlate readers that may be in this position of poverty where they feel hopeless and do the same
by stealing from a store since they want to help their families.

The Perceptions Of Symbolism In William Shakespeare s The...
This poem can be interpreted from many perspectives. In the beginning, the reader might
conclude it is all a dream, however you learn the bird is always present and does not leave. Most
of the poem is told in the past tense, but we read the bird is still around in the present tense, days
or months later. A dream would not last this long. It is also possible it is indeed a hallucination,
and the speaker s madness is so deep the illusion is permanent. Maybe he actually saw a raven
one night. However, even if it was a real bird, it would not sit in one place for such a long period
of time, and coincidentally talk. The speaker tells of his attempts to ease his sorrow by reading
at candlelight. We sense he is weak from his struggle of enduring a great loss. The speaker s
surroundings are also described as bleak and dismal. The thought of a chamber at midnight has a
dark and mysterious connotation. Ironically, the thought of a small room is a safe haven for the
speaker, in comparison to the spooky world outside: Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood
there wondering, fearing (25). There are several symbols present in The Raven. One thought is the
raven represents the soul of Lenorecoming back to haunt him. The raven is not of this world,
perhaps a demon or spiritual creature, a messenger from the dead. The speaker asks the raven to
bring Lenore back, Tell this sould with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,/ It shall class
a saited maiden whom the angels name Lenore (93 94). There is also a sense the speaker is
ridden by guilt for something. Perhaps he wronged Lenore and her soul comes back to torment
him for it. Maybe he even killed her and Lenore is punishing him with his own immortality. She
wants him to know the pain of being lonely and insane forever in her retribution. The bird watches
him suffer, but does nothing but speak in order to increase the suffering. The raven inserts himself
into the story, only so far, just enough to move the story along, to essentially manipulate it. The
horror keeps the speaker from leaving his study. The repetitive knocking goes one and on like a
sign of endless guilt, so much so, it makes him incoherent. Lenore wants him to suffer endlessly and

Statement of Purpose for Software Skills
We, Humans are amazing creatures with outstanding ability to dream. Bringing life into that
dream is an art which requires a unique tool. For me, the tool for adding life to my imaginations

portray my imaginations to the canvas of reality. I always felt that the Software skill is the magic

I am, an undergraduate in Computer Science, from a village in Kerala, India. My story of
affection to work with computer and software started from my childhood. The complexities and
the wonders inside a computer box attracted me towards it. There is a specific reason to say so.
When I kid, I participated in a drawing competition sponsored by a detergent company to do a
painting on life ambition. The magic of computer that deceived my thoughts was too strong, so that
I couldn t imagine myself working with something else. I painted a young guy(myself) with blue
shirt sitting in front of a computer and thinking sophisticated ideas. My drawing skills weren t
strong enough to win that competition, But the moment I realized how much I wanted to be
creative with a computer skills.
This ever wanted feeling of exploring new option on computer made me sure that I should go for

Tali Scoring
By researching tali or knucklebones one can learn many things. Some things that can be learned are
different scoring rules, materials tali are made from, the history of the game, and various variations
of the game.
There are many variations of scoring. There is the simple scoring, senio scoring and the extended
scoring (Roman). For simple scoring there is a venus which is each of the four (4) tali shows a
different number (Roman). This is considered the highest value or the winner. Below the venus is
the senio which is a six (6) with three (3) other numbers (Roman). After the senio is the vulture.
The vulture is when all four (4) of the tali are the same number (Roman). The lowest of the vulture

It is hypothesized that knucklebones (tali) and the game was started in Egypt (Johns). Just like the

There are many variations of the game, especially between children and adults. Some games
children would play using the dice are like jacks, where the kid would toss the dice and try to

Different Organisational Structures And Cultures
1.1 Compare and contrast different organisational structures and cultures.
Organisational structure
According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties
and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an
organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which
the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based
structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure.
Product based structure
In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out.
Individuals from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In
addition, there is some form of competition amongst the different sections. However, this type of
structure can block communication and cause a lack of target similarity.
The functional structure
Unlike the functional structure has an arrangement that is based on the role that is performed by
the different sections of the organisation. This means that each unit/department is focused on its
area of capability or expertise and therefore enable them specialise in their areas. For example, the
Human resource department, sales and marketing department, logistics department etc. Usually,
someone is made accountable for this division hence, there is increase in accountability.
Functionality is also very clear. On the other

2)Social implication of this fetish 3)Commercial implications and cashing on this fixation.
Historical Background The worship of white complexion and projection of the ideal beauty as
fair skinned is not a new concept if we try to track it down he history lane. In fact, this concept
has engrained in our physc by our culture from the ancient times. The Varna system of Social
classification When Aryans (natives of Arctic and hence fair skinned) invaded the Indus Valley,
they drove the darker skinned inhabitants down south. The ones who remained were called as
das and made to do subjugated jobs as labourers, cleaners and even undertakers. Hence in the
social classification, they were allotted the lowest rung. As time progressed and with continuous
labour in the sun, the das came to be associated with dark colour and simultaneously fair colour
started to be associated with affluence and aristocracy. Hence, the social classification, the caste
system was very aptly called as the Varna system, Varna meaning colour . Mythology If one
observes ancient Indian texts on mythology and related epics, it is easy to observe a very
common pattern. Almost in all Indian texts the hero of the epic who mostly is from a noble family

Comparing The Morgentaler Case Of 1993 And The Smolig And...
In chapter one, the difference between the three types of crimes in Canada were discussed:
summary, indictable, and hybrid offences. Summary offences take place in provincial/territorial
court, and and the maximum penalty fine is six months in prison, five thousand dollars, or both. An
example of a summary offenceis soliciting in a public place, or carrying a weapon while attending a
public meeting. An indictable offence is one that is much more severe. The sentences given are
much more serious. Crimesconsidered an indictable offence include manslaughter, robbery, and
aggravated sexual assault. A hybrid/dual offence could include sexual assault, theft under five
thousand dollars, or unlawful imprisonment. The Morgentaler case of 1993 and the Smolig and
Scott case of 1988 were cases that would have a very impactful ruling. The supreme court of
Canada decided that section 287 of the criminal code infringed the rights of section 7 in the
charter of rights and freedoms. Section 7 states that Everyone has the right to life, liberty and
security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the
principles of fundamental justice. (Constitution Acts, 1867 to 1982) This declared that abortion
could ne longer be considered a criminal offence because it was unconstitutional and violated one
s rights under section 7. The oakes test would be applied to a case such as this. The oakes test is a
legal test the courts use to determine whether an

DISCRIMINATION Obesity is a condition in which a person has accumulated so much body fat
that it might have a negative effect on their health. If a person s body weight is at least 20
percent higher than it should be, he or she is considered obese. If an individual s Body Mass
Index (BMI) is between 25 and 29.9, the individual is considered overweight. If one s BMI is 30
and over the person is considered obese. The Body Mass Index is a statistical measurement
derived from your height and weight. Body Mass Index does not measure the percentage of body
fat. Nicholas Bakalar argues that genetically determined height and weight can directly affect
worldly success; a study using Mendelian randomization which is a technique that helps clarify
the causal relationship between human characteristics was done. In a study done by British
researchers, 119,669 men and women who were found to and or did not have various genetic
variants which were known to have any influence on height and Body Mass Index. Mr. Timothy
M. Frayling, a professor of human genetics at the University of Exeter argued that one s
environment, lifestyle cannot change genes. He further asserted that the data from the study
showed that there is a causal effect from being genetically a bit shorter or fatter that leads you to
being worse off in life, which was not previously known.

The Fifth Amendment From The 5th Amendment
5th Amendment The 5th Amendment in the Bill of Rights guarantees protection from self
incrimination. If there were no Fifth Amendment, there would be self incriminating clause
issues, such as: every time you are charged with a crime, you would be interrogated with no right
remain silent; whenever law enforcement desires to subpoena your personal records, you would
have no right to assert a claim against self incrimination; a refusal to testify on the grounds of
self incrimination could be punished as a crime; confessions obtained through custodial
interrogation would, in many circumstances, become admissible [there would be little, if any,
deterrent to harsh interrogation techniques]; prosecutors could ask juries to draw an inference
of guilt from a defendant s failure to testify. A case that comes from the 5th amendment is
Miranda vs. Arizona , which took place in 1966 [the case from which the Miranda Rights were
composed]. This case involved an $8.00 theft and a twenty year prison sentence. Ernesto
Miranda was arrested for theft and interrogated by police for two hours when he confessed that
he had kidnapped and raped a woman a few days earlier. Miranda was not aware that he was
allowed to have an attorney present during questioning nor that he had the right to remain silent. He
was convicted based off of his confession; therefore, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison.
Because he was not aware of this right, his lawyers appealed through the courts. The Supreme Court

Mondavi Procurement Management
Mondavi Procurement Management
Procurement is the complete process or action of acquiring or obtaining material, property, or
services at the operational level, such as purchasing, contracting, and negotiating directly with the
source of supply. Procuring goods and services is a larger process than just the label price of
wine; the process to buy those items includes major organizational costs, often accounting for half
of the product price. When allowing for the vast number of purchases Mondavi makes in a year, it
is easy to see how these costs can spiral out of control without careful management. This paper will
describe the contract administration policies, procedures, tools and termination procedure for the

Several types of contract terminations exist including evergreen, rolling contracts and end of
contracts. Typically Mondavi uses End of Contracts , where once the contract tasks are completed
the contract is finished.
These contracts signed by Mondavi are often long term, whether they are dealing with grape
growers or equipment suppliers. An example of this took place in 1966 after Robert Mondavi
left Krug Winery. Mondavi met with several of Krug s grape suppliers and convinced them to
provide grapes for Mondavi s new company. Mondavi signed these growers to long term
contracts to provide Mondavi with the grapes he needed to produce fine wines in the years to
come. This was unique to the California wine industry, because most of the deals between
vineyards and wineries were handshake deals. Even in 1996, many small wineries were caught
off guard when Mondavi purchased Sierra Madre Vineyard; several of these small wineries had
handshake deals with Sierra Madre and could not purchase the same quantity of grapes from
Mondavi that they had grown accustomed to in the past from Sierra Madre (Berger, 1996). Robert
Mondavi has always done business this way, through a contract with specifications to the length and
details of the contract.

Red Sorghum By Mo Yan
Red Sorghum, a novel written by Mo Yan, depicts events of horror on the Sorghum fields during
the battle between the Chinese and Japanese. As the novel unfolded the role of Red Sorghum as an
active character in the novel was established. As an agricultural necessity for the Chinese, the
participation of the plant in the story declared that the people s relationship to the grain is far
deeper than the just a means to earn money for business purposes. The contributions sorghummade
through its life giving abilities confirmed it as a vital part to the Chinese s survival, especially
through the hardships of the war. With the plants powers to provide and sustain life, protect and
offer a sanctuary to earth s creatures, and the plants relation to the humandemonstrates its place as
more than just an agricultural commodity.
As Red Sorghum unfolded the importance of sorghum as a grain and a means of sustenance is
confirmed. Sorghum provides the characters with food, wine, and antiseptics. In this case to take
precautionary measure against catching leprosy wine is sprayed all over the body. Uncle Arhat
s belief was sorghum wine is a germ sterilizer, Uncle Arhat believed sorghum wine was an
effective disinfectant for all kinds of dangerous germs (Yan, 114). Wine is used as a resource for
sterilization and when handling wounds. As an example, granddad was showing father how to
properly clot a wound, smear some of the salty white powder from the sorghum stalks on it (Yan,

Anti Retroviral Drugs For Hiv Essay
HIV is a virus that affects all parts of the globe. However, there are two major global epidemics.
The first being in the west and developing countries. In these areas the pattern of infection is found
in certain groups. These groups being drug injectors, gay men and prostitutes (Pisani p. ) This
epidemic is known as the concentrated epidemic . This particular pattern HIVspreads rapidly in a
concentrated groups. This is because you are most likely to pass on the virus when you are in
the first stage of HIV. In a concentrated tight knit group of people who are having several sex
partners and sharing needles with others it is easy for the virus to be transmitted. The other
epidemic pattern is seen in east and southern Africa as well as some parts of east Africa and the
Caribbean. This pattern is also known as generalised epidemic . This pattern is different because
HIV is in the general population appose to a concentrated population.
2. There are three different classes of anti retroviral drugs for HIV: a) The first class of drugs are
called the entry inhibitors. The entry inhibitors inhibit the HIV virus to bind to the T helper cells,
also called the CD4 T cells. In order for these cells to become infected the virus, the virus has to
bind and enter them. If the binding is eliminated therefore the virus can not enter the cell. b) The
second is called, integrase inhibitors. Once the virus has entered the host cell, it replicates it s DNA

Encryption Is The Mechanism Of Encoding Data
In a VPN, computers at the ends of the tunnel encrypt data entering the tunnel and decrypt data at
the other end. Encryption is the mechanism of encoding data so that only a device with the
correct decoder will know how to read and use it. Over time, new and better technologies have
been developed to use in networks, which improves the characteristics of VPNs. However, VPN
specific technologies like tunneling protocols, haven t changed much, because current VPNs do
an excellent job at keeping businesses globally connected, with a high level of security. Flexible
working Geographical barriers of companies can be erased with the implementation of VPN. This
will enable employees to work efficiently from home and allow businesses to connect securely
with its vendors and partners. Many organisations started by establishing intranets, which are
private internal networks designed for use only by company employees. By adding a VPN, a
business can extend all its intranet s resources to employees working from remote offices or their
homes. Scalability Well designed VPNs are extensible and scalable. The technology allows its
adopters to use an easy to access Internet infrastructure that grants new users to be added to the
network quickly and with no hassle. This means that organisations are able to acquire large amounts
of capacity and usage with adding little or none additional infrastructure. VPN can in fact expand to
accommodate more users and different locations much more

Essay on War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History
War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History
Count Lev Tolstoy wrote abundantly on the philosophical issues that he felt were universally
important. One of the most prolific examples of this is his view of history. This is set out most
clearly and most famously in his largest work, War and Peace. As Tolstoy claimed himself in a
public statement on the work, War and Peace is what the author wanted and was able to express in
that form in which it was expressed. Not only do the themes and incidents in the novel reflect his
theory of history, Tolstoy iterates this in less narrative terms in the twelve chapters of the Second
Epilogue, described as, A general discussion on the historians study of human life, and on the ...

As Tolstoy said, What I have expressed in the epilogue of the novel, without quotations and
references, is not the momentary fancy of my mind but the inevitable conclusions of seven years of
work, which I had to do.
The Second Epilogue can be split up into three sections1, in section one, comprising chapters 1 to
3, Tolstoy reviews various schools of historiography, in section two, comprising chapters 4 to 7, he
deals with the question of nature and power and what determines the movements of peoples, in
section three, comprising chapters 8 to 12, he discusses the problem of free will.
The first section has been widely disregarded as a limited and anachronistic description of modern
historiography and the logocentric reliance on the presumption that what he feels is important, is
important for self evident reasons. It is often argued that Tolstoy gives an artificial impression of
historians, criticising them for things he is wrong in thinking they have claimed. But what is
important is that through doing this, Tolstoy establishes what is important for him, for his view of
history. He states that in order to explain the movements of people, there

Consider H.L.a Hart’s Critique of Austin’s Positivist...
The question of what the law is a philosophical one, which probably has no definite answer to it.
This is evident as we have seen a lot of legal theorists trying to come with answers to the
question. Ronald Dworkin says it is a set of explicitly adapted rules and ought to maximise the
general welfare , Fuller on the other believed law should withstand the scrutiny of reason and
opposed the idea of legal positivismthat law is no higher than a particular authority , John Austin
defined it to be the command of the sovereign, backed up by sanctions , Herbert Lionel Adolphus
Hart said that law was the rules that may forbid individuals to perform various kinds of actions or
that may impose various obligations on individuals. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hart says that all laws differ from the commands of a sovereign because they may apply to those
individuals who enact them (i.e. the president and the legislature) and not just to other individuals
(South African citizens). Laws may also differ from coercive orders in that they don t only have to
impose duties and obligations (primary rules of obligations) but can also confer powers and
privileges.
According to hart in order for primary rules to work properly they need secondary rules in order
to effective. The function of secondary rules is to enable legislators to make changes in the
primary rules (legislation) should the primary rules be found to be defective in any way.
Secondly they may be necessary in order to enable courts to resolve disputes over the
interpretation and application of primary rules. Therefore the secondary rules of a legal system
may include rules of recognition, change and adjudication. For these primary rules to be followed
they must be clear and understandable to the individuals to whom they apply. Therefore a legal
system is established by a union of primary and secondary rules.
Hart disagrees with Austin that the foundations of a legal system consist of habits of obedience to
a legally unlimited authority, but consist of adherence to and acceptance of an ultimate rule of
recognition, by which the validity of a primary and secondary rule may be evaluated and should it
meet the criteria for the rule of recognition

Altruism And It s Causes
In this paper, I will be discussing the concept of altruism and it s causes in relation to a story of a
bus driver who risked her own life to save the children she was transporting. To achieve this goal I
will: define the necessary concepts (part I), provide examples demonstrating the differing causes of
altruismand how they relate to the event in question (part II), and refer to conducted research
which supports and further describes the actions taken in my chosen event (part III). While there
are many persons who acted altruistically in the following story, I have decided to narrow the
scope of this paper to the acts of one Renita Smith so as to enable a greater level of precision in my
attribution and explanation of the relevant concepts.
Event Summary
Whilst going through her elementary school bus route, Renita Smith, the bus driver, was alerted to
a beeping sound coming from her dashboard before she detected the scent of smoke. Only mere
moments later, the bus, which was carrying 20 children, caught aflame. In the released dashcam
footage, the bus in question can be seen entirely engulfed by a thick, black smoke and fire. Without
waiting to consider options, Smith immediately stopped the bus and began escorting the children
off of it. Surrounding neighbours and drivers ran to the aid of the children, ensuring that they made
it a safe distance away. It was Smith, however, who risked her own life through repeatedly entering
the flaming bus until she was certain that not

Snowpiercer Dystopian
The most alarming aspect of dystopias stem from their power to challenge personal and societal
values surrounding the central notion of what it means to be human. This instigates the startling
realisation that the future is greatly dependent on value driven responses to the environmental,
social and political issues of contemporary society. Korean director Joon Ho Bong s 2013 post
apocalyptic dystopian film Snowpiercer depicts the environmental collapse of the Earth as a direct

Analysis of William Butler Yeats Poems Essay
Analysis of William Butler Yeats Poems; When You Are Old, The Lake Isle of Innisfree, The Wild
Swans at Coole, The Second Coming and Sailing to Byzantium
In many poems, short stories, plays, television shows and novels an author usually deals with a
main idea in each of their works. A main reason they do this is due to the fact that they either
have a strong belief in that very idea or it somehow correlates to an important piece of their life
overall. For example the author Thomas Hardy likes to deal with the idea of loss in many different
ways within his poems some being positive and some being negative. William Butler Yeatshas a

He goes on to say in line 8, And loved the sorrows of your changing face; The then again deals with
the idea of change in this instance actually saying the word change and how your face will change
as age comes upon your body. There are many more times within this poem that Yeats mentions
change rather than changelessness.
Secondly, The Lake Isle of Innisfree expresses rather than a rushed life a life of peace and
changelessness. Yates basically states in this poem that he is sick of being in such a fast paced
city. He doesn t reveal this until the end of the poem when he says on page 1141 lines 11 and 12,
When I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray, I hear it in the deep heart s core. Yates
isn t exactly at the place of peace in which he calls Innisfree yet that s where he d rather be. On
page 1141 Yates says line 1, I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree. Later stating in line 5,
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Here in Innisfree there would
be peace and changelessness which Yates would prefer rather than being in a constantly changing
city setting. Next, in another poem by Yates titled The Wild Swans at Coole, Yates uses a different
approach and expressed changelessness within change. In this poem Yates talks a lot about swans
it seems as though the poet is absolutely fascinated with every aspect of the swan s life. Yates
describes change within this poem on

using grouping strategies and enriched curriculum (Gentry and Fugate, 2013, p.213). Gifted and

The pullout method that this school is using is more of a means to an ends . Most of their gifted
students are not receiving services throughout the majority of the week. With the limited amount of
the time they have for pullout, the TSCG model presented would work better. However,
incorporating TSCM at Lockland will not be an easy road, and it should be implement slowly, in
stages. First, Lockland needs to have better professional development opportunities for their
teachers. In TSCM, every teacher is using gifted education practices and needs to be confident in
implementing them in their classrooms (Gentry Fugate, 2013, p.221). When teachers are more
educated on these matters, they can begin to differentiate to gifted students in their regular
classrooms more successfully. With this in class support and the pullout program, Lockland should
see better assessment results. Finally, teachers and administration can sit down and form cluster
groups that consider the needs of all the students, and eliminate the pullout time. Lockland can use
the teachers that were originally leading pullout to teach the high ability class, assuming that they
are the best to do so, or they can be used as gifted push in teachers providing additional support in
the general classroom. Considering, the failure of the pullout program, I believe that the TSGC
model would be worth the time and effort implementing at

Examples Of Frankenstein Or The Modern Prometheus
In Frankenstein or, The Modern Prometheus , the author, Mary Shelley demonstrates the idea that a
creator, in this case, a scientist, is responsible for its creation in the sense that it s responsible for its
actions during its early stages of existence in the world. In the story and throughout several
nonfiction sources, authors show the concept that the creator is responsible for it s creation/product
since it creates a new type of responsibility towards the scientist him/herself, toward the product
/creation, and to the scientists family. Frankensteinwas unable to demonstrate responsibility with
these three, which is the main reason why the creature became so aggressive and rageful. The
reason for this was mainly the fact that Doctor Frankenstein is selfish and only thinks of himself,
and not of how his actions can severely impact people around him. This concept is also
demonstrated in our modern world through how scientists today are being cautious with new
inventions and products, such as CRISPR, which is a system that scientists can use to modify
human genomes. Scientists today are also making sure that they are monitoring their inventions and
making sure that they are responsible for whatever they are doing.
Throughout Frankenstein , Mary Shelley demonstrates how a creator is responsible for its creation
in the sense that the scientist also becomes responsible for himself. In the story, as Dr. Frankenstein
begins his project, which was to create a creature out of

Hepatitis C Essay
Hepatitis C Virus Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can be caused by several
different viruses. It can also be acute or chronic, depending on the particular virus and stage of the
disease. The different types of hepatitis are hepatitis A (HAV), hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis B
associated delta (HDV), hepatitis C(HCV) (Porth 2005). These viruses are capable of being
transmitted in many different ways but each one will instigate a viral response and inflammation
within the liver itself. HAV presents as an acute infection and does not become chronic (CDC
2011). HBV and HCV may begin as acute infections, but can remain in the body and result in a
long term chronic illness (CDC). Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), which is the... Show more content on

Cedars Sinai Medical Center (2011) asserts, Hepatitis C is curable in more than 50 percent of
patients. Management and treatment can include medications, lifestyle changes and possible organ
transplant. Pegylated interferon injections weekly and ribavirin daily therapy are the most common
medication used in the treatment of HCV. The interferon boosts the immune system to attack liver
cells infected with the hepatitis C virus and inhibit the virus replication within the cell. The
ribavirin is a broad spectrum of antiviral activity and inhibits replication and infectivity of the
virus. Lifestyle changes can include abstaining from the use of alcohol, as it is a proven factor,
which can be damaging to the liver. Those that engaging in high risk behaviors such as needle
sharing, unprotected non monogamous sexual relations and un sterile environments for tattooing or
body piercing, should educate themselves on safer practices. Oregon State Health Department
(2011), recommends checking with the treating provider when using over the counter medications
and supplements, to ensure that they do not interfere with treatment or liver function and possibly
do further damage to the liver. HCV can affect anyone of any age. It is most notably seen in
adults in between the ages of 20 39. The CDC (2011) notes that African Americans and Caucasians
have a similar incidence of acute disease, but those of Hispanic descent are at a higher risk. Those

Efficient Wireless Power Transfer Through Magnetic...
Imagine a situation where no electrical device has to be plugged into a wall. In this case, a
laptop or cell phone can charge itself easily and seamlessly just by being placing inside a room.
This is the ability of many experimental wireless power devices that will be adapted to domestic
use in the future. Today, the prevailing methods of energytransfer are wires and batteries. Wired
connections are perhaps the most common. With this energy transfer method, energy is delivered
from a power plant to a home. In the case of batteries, energy is stored as chemical energy in the
battery cell. Once it is needed, the chemical energy can be released as electrical energy. However,
both these methods have flaws. Both suffer from mild inefficiency... Show more content on

This process eliminates the use of wires between the transmitter and receiver therefore making it
wireless. For example, solar power is essentially radiative wireless energy transfer. The sun is the
transmitter, the photovoltaic solar cell is the receiver, and the sunlight is a high frequency
electromagnetic wave (Little et al.). The process can be adapted for everyday use if electricity is
transformed into light by a light source and then absorbed by a photocell that transforms the light
back into electricity. However, due to issues with efficiency, this application will never be
practical unless a more efficient solar cell is developed. Of course, the efficiency can be increased
if a focused beam of light is used instead, but this still lags far behind compared to the efficiency of
a standard wired connection. For home use, this method is impractical, but in other fields, its
advantages outweigh its disadvantages.
Radiative energy transfer has many advantages and disadvantages. A distinct disadvantage that
makes this method impractical for home use is that the transfer can affect other objects and requires
that no object blocks the space between the receiver and transmitter (Kurs et al.). With this in mind,
there are a number of things to be concerned about. First, it requires that no object blocks the line of
sight between the receiver and the transmitter. Second, efficiency is

Analysis Of The Poem George Washington Crossing The...
On a stormy December night in 1776 general George Washington and his men braved the cold and
crossed the Delaware River to attack unsuspecting British soldiers. This bold move helped to turn
the tides of the American Revolution and proved to be one of the most important American
victories of the war. This historical battle was commemorated through a painting by German artist,
Emmanuel Leutze. The painting of George Washingtoncrossing the Delaware River properly
represents the fighting spirit and resiliency of the colonial forces during the American Revolution.
The painting depicts one of the most decisive victories of the American Revolution. Prior to the
battle American morale was very low, even Washington was becoming doubtful. The continental
armywas forced out of New York and pushed across most of New Jerseyon a desperate retreat
induced by many British victories. The British troops that occupied the small town of Trenton were
convinced that American morale was much too broken for any sort of attack... Washington had
other plans. (Encyclopedia Brittanica) Washington and 2,400 of his men crossed the Delaware
River on Christmas Eve under the cover of a storm. They were totally undetected. This bold move
was completely unexpected and carried out mostly out of pure determination. At the time of the
crossing the continental army was severely undersupplied. The only two American casualties were
a result of frostbite. They were not properly prepared for the cold northeastern

Essay on Julius Caesar
1. Early life Julius Caesar was born on July 13, 100 B.C. Though he was a descendent of the
oldest patrician family, Julius Caesar grew up in a very poor district of Rome called Subura. As a
child, he studied martial arts, history, and law ( Julius Caesar ). At the age of seventeen, Julius
married Cornelia, the daughter of Luciussulla, who was a dictator of Rome. Because Luciussulla
did not approve of the marriage, he tried to force the two to divorce, but they both refused. Julius
Caesarstudied philosophy and oratory in Greece. Soon after returning to Rome, Cornelia became
pregnant. Named after her father, the baby s name was Julia. Cornelia died in 68 B.C., leaving

The Senate had originally refused to give Pompey this land, but because of Caesar they changed
their minds (Combee,95). Also, in 59 B.C., Pompey married Caesar s daughter, Julia
(Gruen,13). Caesar now desired to be governor of Gaul for a five year term. Also a great general,
Caesar spent years conquering Gaul. He became a loyal friend to many of the people there.
While conquering, Caesar became very powerful and very popular. His many conquests
continued and his army grew stronger and stronger (Combee,95). Fortunately, Caesar s
campaigns in Gaul brought great wealth and popularity to Rome. They also brought great
popularity to him ( Julius Caesar ). To many people, Caesar was a hero (Gruen,13). After his
second term as governor in Gaul, the hero returned to Rome. Growing very jealous of Caesar,
Pompey joined his enemies. The Senate persistently tried to disband Caesar s powerful army. He
refused to do this, which caused major friction with the Senate (Combee,95). Then, on January
10, 49 B.C., Caesar crossed the Rubicon River with his army. This was the start of the Civil War.
Afraid of the more powerful army, Pompey and his army retreated. Though, this was not the end.
Though they knew of his great conquering abilities, the enemies continued to plan the downfall of
Julius Caesar ( Julius Caesar ). As a conquer, Caesar was one of the greatest. He was greatly
honored for many of his victories. In 47 B.C.,

Spanish American Imperialism
When it comes to the topic of the Spanish American War of 1898, most Americans may believe
humanitarian aspects influenced the United States role in Cuba. In a way, the public thought
America would be freeing Cuba from the atrocities the Spaniards had laid upon them. One source
about the reconcentration camps outlines what the Cubans faced, Four hundred and sixty women
and children thrown on the ground, heaped pell mell as animals, some in a dying condition, others
sick and others dead... Sources such as these portrayed aspects of yellow journalism which
exaggerated stories and influenced the emotions of the American public. Where the people s
argument ends, is whether or not freeing Cubafrom Spanish rule was the sole reason behind

Although these historians do not believe Social Darwinism led to America becoming a world
power, they do agree imperialism in the United States was led by their economic need. In the
previous quote by William McKinley, this claim of an economic need is supported, as the
president clearly states that acquiring the Philippines would greatly increase American trade.
Additionally, in a speech by the former senator of Indiana, Albert J. Beveridge, America s
economic reasons for becoming involved in the Spanish American war are portrayed. The text
exemplifies, in Cuba, alone, there are 15,000,000 acres of forest unacquainted with the axe. There
are exhaustless mines of iron... There are millions of acres yet explores... It means new
employment and better wages for every laboring man in the Union . This entire quote is the
senator marveling over the economic possibilities if the United States were to acquire Cuba. If the
America s motivation was simply to free the Cubans from Spanish rule, than Beveridge would not
have uttered these words at all during his speech. The truth is the United States wanted to increase
their economic dominance as well, for it is difficult to become a world power without financial
stability. By expanding American markets into Cuba, the United States can reap the benefits from
the resources Cuba has but

Causes Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression was an economic decline that occurred in North America, Europe, and
other manufacturing countries of the world. It began in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. It is
known as the longest and most severe depression in the Western World. It is said that the Great
Depression began with a tragic collapse of stock market prices on the New York Stock Exchange
in October of 1929. Over the next three years, stock prices continued to fall, and in 1932, they
had dropped to only about 20 percent of their value they had in 1929. This decline strained banks
and many other financial organizations, especially those who had stocks. By 1933, almost 11,000
of the 25,000 banks had failed. During the Great Depression, shantytowns appeared as
unemployed people were removed from their homes. As the Depression got worse, and when the
government failed to provide support, President Herbert Hoover was blamed for the economic
conditions, as well as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poor agricultural practices and many years of drought are the cause of the Dust Bowl. When
there was enough rainfall, the land produced lots of crops. But as the droughts deepened,
farmers kept plowing and planting and nothing would grow. The ground cover that normally
would have held the soil in place, was gone. As the Plains s winds blew across the fields, it
would pick up the leftover dust and form clouds of dust in the sky. The sky would be dark for
days and in some places the dust would drift like snow. The Dust Bowl affected mostly the
American Great Plains region, the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska,
Oklahoma, and Texas. The Dust Bowl drove out hundreds of thousands of people, and because it
happened around the Great Depression, many people had trouble getting back into the grove of
things after moving to places around California. The land had little ability to produce crops and
many farmers were financially ruined. Many people died of

The, Twelve Angry Men, By Reginald Rose
Set in the 1950 s post depression America and written by world renowned playwright Reginald
Rose, Twelve Angry Men has become a much loved classic within the drama playwright genre.
With an abundance of audacious themes skillfully displayed throughout the feature length play,
Rose has pushed the boundaries of the overly oppressive era from which the play was first
published. The two main themes that were explored to great lengths throughout the play were
prejudices and stereotypes. These themes were both highlighted through the use of three key
literary devices; structure, setting and interactions of characters. Prior to act 1, character names
are not listed in the structure, the characters are known only as their assigned juror numbers, this
is to prevent the audience from developing prejudices of the juror, The 8th Juror gazes out the
window. The 12th Juror looks at him for a moment then moves away , (pg. 4). This decision also
puts the audience in a similar position to which the jurors are in; making a decision on facts
provided without any bias. Act one of the play is set in America after the abolishment of slavery,
yet racism was still extremely prevalent and widely accepted throughout the country. This certain
prejudicial issue is highlighted in many key scenes during the play. The 10th Juror is a perfect
example of how the setting affects the play and depicts the themes of prejudices and stereotypes;

Copyright Law
Copyright and Copywrong
This essay will first examine how copyright law has attempted to be strengthened in New Zealand,
and whether that has succeeded in preventing piracy. Next, how New Zealand s current copyright
law stifles creativity will be examined, with comparison to the United States jurisdiction. Lastly,
the benefits of reform regarding fair use will be discussed. Due to word constraints, examples of
creativity will be limited to parody within Pop Art.
Recent copyright reforms in New Zealand suggest a shift towards strengthening copyright
protection, favoured by copyright holders. For example, a three strikes regime acts against internet
account holders who either upload or download copyrighted content. Prosecution has ... Show more

However, as technologies that foster copying have developed, as have Art movements that rely on
parody. The prime example is Pop Art which recontextualises existing works and items to
comment on society. This plays a key role in the digital age by allowing creative expression
through original work. For example, pop artist Jeff Koons appropriated Silk Sandals, a magazine
photograph of shoes, in his painting Niagara, depicting numerous consumer goods. When sued for
copyright infringement, the Court accepted fair use under its Copyright Act 1976, that Niagara was
a criticism of consumerist desires and the bombardment of advertising. This was considered a
transformative use of the original photograph to create new creative objectives and insights.
Interestingly, this suggests that copyright is protecting the idea of the work, as well as expression.
If the same case occurred in New Zealand, copyright would be infringed as Niagara reproduces
Silk Sandals substantially. Arguably, fair dealing for criticism might apply. Yet, this is untenable
as an incredibly high threshold of criticism would need to be shown. Thus, New Zealand s
copyright law regarding use is restricted for failure to align with technological changes. Society
values remixed innovation in parodies such as Pop Art. The law must be able to recognise this.
New Zealand may favour a fair dealing for parody exception as an expansion of our criticism
exception. This is supported by a

  • 4. The Character Analysis Of Guy Monttag, By Ray Bradbury Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer (Campbell). Guy Montag is very dedicated to his work as a fireman, he fits the stereotypical role due to his physical appearance. His job is to burn and destroy illegal books. The book is named after the temperature at which book papers ignite. Montag is prideful of his work, he burns everything to the ground, devoid of thinking or feeling. Montag is the protagonist, although there are countless others who could have taken his place as the protagonist; there were also others who fought against society, nevertheless he was the one fireman that went against his ideals and changed significantly due to meeting Clarisse, Faber and the old woman, because he was searching for the meaning of his existence. After meeting Clarisse, Montag begins to question society. Clarisse is very straightforward and clear to Montag. He said that he can see himself in her eyes. How rarely did other people s faces take of you and throw back to your own expression, your own innermost trembling thought? (Bradbury 11). She makes him aware that he never stops to think. He tells Mildred that Clarisse was the first person I can remember who looked straight at me as if I counted (Bradbury 72). Through his friendship with Clarisse McClellan, Montag recognizes how cruel society can be as opposed to the joys of nature in which he rarely experiences. When Clarisse makes ... One day in the Forest Sauvage, The Wart encounters an old man by the name of Merlyn who possesses magical capabilities. Merlyn offers to return to the castle to serve as a tutor for The Wart and Kay. Merlyn, who is the predominant advocate for education, states that The best thing for disturbances of the spirit ... is to learn. That is the only thing that never fails .... which the poor mind can never exhaust... never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting (White 228). Physical power can be limited and unreliable, whereas knowledge is infinitely expansive. The Wart owes his success to the insight provided to him by Merlyn, and his ability to use it in juxtaposition with his physical strengths. Merlyn utilizes unconventional means to teach The Wart, such as transforming him into animals or sending him on quests. During one of the first lessons, Merlyn tells The Wart Education is experience, and the essence of experience is self reliance (50). Merlyn desires for The Wart to learn through his own affairs, thus developing a sense of independence. Due to Merlyn s idiosyncratic means of instruction, The Wart gains experience and is able to formulate his own thoughts. This subsequently allows for his education to flourish, and for future ... • 9. Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist And The Trial Throughout life, events occur and mold us. Events that hold many achievements and hardships. Events that causes us to adapt, hopefully, for the better. Events that becomes experiences, which we learn from and evolve into a wiser self. However, these inspiring words and pithy phrases are more suited for those who seek a generic answer. While we have these moments of triumph and success, we also have terrors that reside on the opposite side of the spectrum. Moments of lasting pain and trivial endeavors that leave an imprint on us unlike the moments of joy. It is through man s isolation and pain that tell us not to talk to strangers or play with fire. Unfortunately, it is difficult to explain the feelings of pain than it is of joy. Franz Kafkaexplores these feelings. Franz Kafka journeys and displays the complicated genre of alienation and psychological tribulation of mankind in his stories, The Metamorphosis, A Hunger Artist, and The Trial. On July 3, 1883, Franz Kafka was born to a mother who was oblivious to his ambitions and to a father who held the family with vises. In the city of Prague, where he was born, he saw the true face of his father within his household (Franz, par 1). A man who controlled everything and trivialized the aspect of creativity and imagination. During school and work, he always aspired to become a writer. • 11. Persuasive Essay On Love And Lust Can love and lust go hand in hand? Certainly, life experiences will show us that it is possible to be sexually attracted to someone, but to not love that person. Yet, life experiences will also show us that we can be sexually attracted to someone and indeed love them very much. Ronald E. Riggio, Ph.D. says lovedistinguishes from lust, because love, includes a desire for physical contact and intimacy, but also caring about the other s needs as if they were your own. (Riggio, 2014) Lust, as defined by Merriam Webster, as a noun, is as unbridled sexual desire. (Merriam Webster, 2017) There is no mention of lust being concerned about the other person s needs in that definition. Love sounds, only so very loving, but we will see later it can take someone to extremes, that lust cannot. Remember, Riggio mentions, you consider the other person, and that it is not all about you when you are dealing with love. Certainly, we see this scenario in love relationships that have nothing to do with sex. As parents, we consider our children in our life choices, and with our friends, if we are good friends indeed, we consider them in what we say and do. In love, there is a relationship, in lust no relationship is required, because we can consider only ourselves, because we are alone with ourselves. Compare love with what poet, Sharon Olds has to say about lust. In her poem, Sex Without Love , she writes, they are like great runners; they know they are alone (Olds, 1981) So lust ... • 16. The Perceptions Of Symbolism In William Shakespeare s The... This poem can be interpreted from many perspectives. In the beginning, the reader might conclude it is all a dream, however you learn the bird is always present and does not leave. Most of the poem is told in the past tense, but we read the bird is still around in the present tense, days or months later. A dream would not last this long. It is also possible it is indeed a hallucination, and the speaker s madness is so deep the illusion is permanent. Maybe he actually saw a raven one night. However, even if it was a real bird, it would not sit in one place for such a long period of time, and coincidentally talk. The speaker tells of his attempts to ease his sorrow by reading at candlelight. We sense he is weak from his struggle of enduring a great loss. The speaker s surroundings are also described as bleak and dismal. The thought of a chamber at midnight has a dark and mysterious connotation. Ironically, the thought of a small room is a safe haven for the speaker, in comparison to the spooky world outside: Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing (25). There are several symbols present in The Raven. One thought is the raven represents the soul of Lenorecoming back to haunt him. The raven is not of this world, perhaps a demon or spiritual creature, a messenger from the dead. The speaker asks the raven to bring Lenore back, Tell this sould with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,/ It shall class a saited maiden whom the angels name Lenore (93 94). There is also a sense the speaker is ridden by guilt for something. Perhaps he wronged Lenore and her soul comes back to torment him for it. Maybe he even killed her and Lenore is punishing him with his own immortality. She wants him to know the pain of being lonely and insane forever in her retribution. The bird watches him suffer, but does nothing but speak in order to increase the suffering. The raven inserts himself into the story, only so far, just enough to move the story along, to essentially manipulate it. The horror keeps the speaker from leaving his study. The repetitive knocking goes one and on like a sign of endless guilt, so much so, it makes him incoherent. Lenore wants him to suffer endlessly and she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Different Organisational Structures And Cultures 1.1 Compare and contrast different organisational structures and cultures. Organisational structure According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure. Product based structure In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out. Individuals from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In addition, there is some form of competition amongst the different sections. However, this type of structure can block communication and cause a lack of target similarity. The functional structure Unlike the functional structure has an arrangement that is based on the role that is performed by the different sections of the organisation. This means that each unit/department is focused on its area of capability or expertise and therefore enable them specialise in their areas. For example, the Human resource department, sales and marketing department, logistics department etc. Usually, someone is made accountable for this division hence, there is increase in accountability. Historical Background The worship of white complexion and projection of the ideal beauty as fair skinned is not a new concept if we try to track it down he history lane. In fact, this concept has engrained in our physc by our culture from the ancient times. The Varna system of Social classification When Aryans (natives of Arctic and hence fair skinned) invaded the Indus Valley, they drove the darker skinned inhabitants down south. The ones who remained were called as das and made to do subjugated jobs as labourers, cleaners and even undertakers. Hence in the social classification, they were allotted the lowest rung. As time progressed and with continuous labour in the sun, the das came to be associated with dark colour and simultaneously fair colour started to be associated with affluence and aristocracy. Hence, the social classification, the caste system was very aptly called as the Varna system, Varna meaning colour . An example of a summary offenceis soliciting in a public place, or carrying a weapon while attending a public meeting. An indictable offence is one that is much more severe. If a person s body weight is at least 20 percent higher than it should be, he or she is considered obese. If an individual s Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 25 and 29.9, the individual is considered overweight. If one s BMI is 30 and over the person is considered obese. If there were no Fifth Amendment, there would be self incriminating clause issues, such as: every time you are charged with a crime, you would be interrogated with no right remain silent; whenever law enforcement desires to subpoena your personal records, you would have no right to assert a claim against self incrimination; a refusal to testify on the grounds of self incrimination could be punished as a crime; confessions obtained through custodial interrogation would, in many circumstances, become admissible [there would be little, if any, deterrent to harsh interrogation techniques]; prosecutors could ask juries to draw an inference of guilt from a defendant s failure to testify. A case that comes from the 5th amendment is Miranda vs. Arizona , which took place in 1966 [the case from which the Miranda Rights were composed]. This case involved an $8.00 theft and a twenty year prison sentence. Ernesto Miranda was arrested for theft and interrogated by police for two hours when he confessed that he had kidnapped and raped a woman a few days earlier. Miranda was not aware that he was allowed to have an attorney present during questioning nor that he had the right to remain silent. These contracts signed by Mondavi are often long term, whether they are dealing with grape growers or equipment suppliers. An example of this took place in 1966 after Robert Mondavi left Krug Winery. Mondavi met with several of Krug s grape suppliers and convinced them to provide grapes for Mondavi s new company. Mondavi signed these growers to long term contracts to provide Mondavi with the grapes he needed to produce fine wines in the years to come. This was unique to the California wine industry, because most of the deals between vineyards and wineries were handshake deals. Even in 1996, many small wineries were caught off guard when Mondavi purchased Sierra Madre Vineyard; several of these small wineries had handshake deals with Sierra Madre and could not purchase the same quantity of grapes from Mondavi that they had grown accustomed to in the past from Sierra Madre (Berger, 1996). In these areas the pattern of infection is found in certain groups. These groups being drug injectors, gay men and prostitutes (Pisani p. ) This epidemic is known as the concentrated epidemic . This particular pattern HIVspreads rapidly in a concentrated groups. This is because you are most likely to pass on the virus when you are in the first stage of HIV. In a concentrated tight knit group of people who are having several sex partners and sharing needles with others it is easy for the virus to be transmitted. The other epidemic pattern is seen in east and southern Africa as well as some parts of east Africa and the Caribbean. This pattern is also known as generalised epidemic . This pattern is different because HIV is in the general population appose to a concentrated population. 2. There are three different classes of anti retroviral drugs for HIV: a) The first class of drugs are called the entry inhibitors. The entry inhibitors inhibit the HIV virus to bind to the T helper cells, also called the CD4 T cells. In order for these cells to become infected the virus, the virus has to bind and enter them. If the binding is eliminated therefore the virus can not enter the cell. b) The second is called, integrase inhibitors. Once the virus has entered the host cell, it replicates it s DNA into the cell. Essay on War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History Count Lev Tolstoy wrote abundantly on the philosophical issues that he felt were universally important. One of the most prolific examples of this is his view of history. This is set out most clearly and most famously in his largest work, War and Peace. As Tolstoy claimed himself in a public statement on the work, War and Peace is what the author wanted and was able to express in that form in which it was expressed. Not only do the themes and incidents in the novel reflect his theory of history, Tolstoy iterates this in less narrative terms in the twelve chapters of the Second Epilogue, described as, A general discussion on the historians study of human life, and on the ... The first section has been widely disregarded as a limited and anachronistic description of modern historiography and the logocentric reliance on the presumption that what he feels is important, is important for self evident reasons. It is often argued that Tolstoy gives an artificial impression of historians, criticising them for things he is wrong in thinking they have claimed. Laws may also differ from coercive orders in that they don t only have to impose duties and obligations (primary rules of obligations) but can also confer powers and privileges. According to hart in order for primary rules to work properly they need secondary rules in order to effective. The function of secondary rules is to enable legislators to make changes in the primary rules (legislation) should the primary rules be found to be defective in any way. Secondly they may be necessary in order to enable courts to resolve disputes over the interpretation and application of primary rules. Therefore the secondary rules of a legal system may include rules of recognition, change and adjudication. For these primary rules to be followed they must be clear and understandable to the individuals to whom they apply. Therefore a legal system is established by a union of primary and secondary rules. Hart disagrees with Austin that the foundations of a legal system consist of habits of obedience to a legally unlimited authority, but consist of adherence to and acceptance of an ultimate rule of recognition, by which the validity of a primary and secondary rule may be evaluated and should it meet the criteria for the rule of recognition ... • 36. Altruism And It s Causes In this paper, I will be discussing the concept of altruism and it s causes in relation to a story of a bus driver who risked her own life to save the children she was transporting. To achieve this goal I will: define the necessary concepts (part I), provide examples demonstrating the differing causes of altruismand how they relate to the event in question (part II), and refer to conducted research which supports and further describes the actions taken in my chosen event (part III). While there are many persons who acted altruistically in the following story, I have decided to narrow the scope of this paper to the acts of one Renita Smith so as to enable a greater level of precision in my attribution and explanation of the relevant concepts. Event Summary Whilst going through her elementary school bus route, Renita Smith, the bus driver, was alerted to a beeping sound coming from her dashboard before she detected the scent of smoke. Only mere moments later, the bus, which was carrying 20 children, caught aflame. In the released dashcam footage, the bus in question can be seen entirely engulfed by a thick, black smoke and fire. Without waiting to consider options, Smith immediately stopped the bus and began escorting the children off of it. Surrounding neighbours and drivers ran to the aid of the children, ensuring that they made it a safe distance away. It was Smith, however, who risked her own life through repeatedly entering the flaming bus until she was certain that not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of William Butler Yeats Poems Essay Analysis of William Butler Yeats Poems; When You Are Old, The Lake Isle of Innisfree, The Wild Swans at Coole, The Second Coming and Sailing to Byzantium In many poems, short stories, plays, television shows and novels an author usually deals with a main idea in each of their works. A main reason they do this is due to the fact that they either have a strong belief in that very idea or it somehow correlates to an important piece of their life overall. Secondly, The Lake Isle of Innisfree expresses rather than a rushed life a life of peace and changelessness. Yates basically states in this poem that he is sick of being in such a fast paced city. He doesn t reveal this until the end of the poem when he says on page 1141 lines 11 and 12, When I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray, I hear it in the deep heart s core. Yates isn t exactly at the place of peace in which he calls Innisfree yet that s where he d rather be. On page 1141 Yates says line 1, I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree. Later stating in line 5, And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Here in Innisfree there would be peace and changelessness which Yates would prefer rather than being in a constantly changing city setting. In the story and throughout several nonfiction sources, authors show the concept that the creator is responsible for it s creation/product since it creates a new type of responsibility towards the scientist him/herself, toward the product /creation, and to the scientists family. Frankensteinwas unable to demonstrate responsibility with these three, which is the main reason why the creature became so aggressive and rageful. The reason for this was mainly the fact that Doctor Frankenstein is selfish and only thinks of himself, and not of how his actions can severely impact people around him. In this case, a laptop or cell phone can charge itself easily and seamlessly just by being placing inside a room. This is the ability of many experimental wireless power devices that will be adapted to domestic use in the future. Today, the prevailing methods of energytransfer are wires and batteries. Wired connections are perhaps the most common. With this energy transfer method, energy is delivered from a power plant to a home. In the case of batteries, energy is stored as chemical energy in the battery cell. Once it is needed, the chemical energy can be released as electrical energy. However, both these methods have flaws. Both suffer from mild inefficiency... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process eliminates the use of wires between the transmitter and receiver therefore making it wireless. For example, solar power is essentially radiative wireless energy transfer. The sun is the transmitter, the photovoltaic solar cell is the receiver, and the sunlight is a high frequency electromagnetic wave (Little et al.). The process can be adapted for everyday use if electricity is transformed into light by a light source and then absorbed by a photocell that transforms the light back into electricity. However, due to issues with efficiency, this application will never be practical unless a more efficient solar cell is developed. Of course, the efficiency can be increased if a focused beam of light is used instead, but this still lags far behind compared to the efficiency of a standard wired connection. For home use, this method is impractical, but in other fields, its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Radiative energy transfer has many advantages and disadvantages. A distinct disadvantage that makes this method impractical for home use is that the transfer can affect other objects and requires that no object blocks the space between the receiver and transmitter (Kurs et al.). With an abundance of audacious themes skillfully displayed throughout the feature length play, Rose has pushed the boundaries of the overly oppressive era from which the play was first published. The two main themes that were explored to great lengths throughout the play were prejudices and stereotypes. These themes were both highlighted through the use of three key literary devices; structure, setting and interactions of characters. Prior to act 1, character names are not listed in the structure, the characters are known only as their assigned juror numbers, this is to prevent the audience from developing prejudices of the juror, The 8th Juror gazes out the window. However, as technologies that foster copying have developed, as have Art movements that rely on parody. The prime example is Pop Art which recontextualises existing works and items to comment on society. This plays a key role in the digital age by allowing creative expression through original work. For example, pop artist Jeff Koons appropriated Silk Sandals, a magazine photograph of shoes, in his painting Niagara, depicting numerous consumer goods. When sued for copyright infringement, the Court accepted fair use under its Copyright Act 1976, that Niagara was a criticism of consumerist desires and the bombardment of advertising. This was considered a transformative use of the original photograph to create new creative objectives and insights. Interestingly, this suggests that copyright is protecting the idea of the work, as well as expression. If the same case occurred in New Zealand, copyright would be infringed as Niagara reproduces Silk Sandals substantially. Arguably, fair dealing for criticism might apply. Yet, this is untenable as an incredibly high threshold of criticism would need to be shown.
