College Is The Mistake Of Not Taking Advantage Of School...
Many students in college make the mistake of not taking advantage of school resources and activities.
Afterall, taking advantage of college s resources and participating in activities is what completes the
full college experience. Those type of people believe that the only thing universities have to offer is
education. While that is partially true, universities offer more than just classes. Universities such as
Cal Poly Pomona, offer a variety of different things that can help students succeed. Not only does it
offer helpful activities and enjoyable events but universities intend to keep it a safe campus in order
for students to enjoy their full college experience. Cal Poly provides students with a good learning
environment with many resources, school safety and social events. Cal Poly Pomona offers a variety
of academic and personal help for all students. In college, there is academic help such as tutoring,
writing centers, and office hours with professors. Cal Poly Pomona offers free tutoring daily for many
different subjects. The library has a writing center where tutors will help students develop a strong
paper through guidance and support. Other tutors will meet up with students and help steer them
towards the right direction. In addition, professors always have their doors open during office hours
and are there for one reason and that is to help their students. Professors at Cal Poly are supportive and
value their time with students who come to

Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner
Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner
From the silent epic of Fritz Lang Metropolis 1927 to Ridley s Scott s spectacular Blade Runner 1982
the connection between architecture and film has always been intimate. The most apparent concepts
that connect these two films are the overall visuals of both films and their vision of city of the future.
The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography, and social
structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by which
society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it. Metropolis
and Blade Runner uses the themes relationships amongst female sexuality and male vision, and
technology. However, Gender roles and technology seems to be the most important part in both films.
Blade Runner became a cult classic. The film may have survived long enough to benefit from a
renewed taste for darker, more violent sci fi. It s appeal has less to do with a fascination for outer
space (which does not feature beyond reference in a few lines of dialogue) than with a vision of earth
and humankind in the near future (Roberts and Wallis Pg 157 8). Both films have a timeless quality to
it, as they are representative of the future of our planet earth. I find it so interesting that even though
these films were made in different times their ideas about the futuristic city and society are almost
identical.
The futuristic aspect of these

Thomas Edison Accomplishments
Genius is two percent inspiration and ninety eight percent perspiration, said by one of the most
ingenious inventors in American history. Thomas Alva Edison held more than 1,000 registered
trademarks and is best remembered for inventing the phonograph or jukebox/stereo turntable in 1877.
He also invented the first commercially successful electric light bulb two years later. Although Edison
did not invent the light bulb, he developed a durable fiber/thread that made its use practical.
Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, which was a community that was
the largest wheat shipping center in the world other than Odessa,Russia. His family moved to Port
Huron, Michigan in 1854, which exceeded the commercial excellence of both Milan and Odessa. After
spending 12 weeks in the noisy one room schoolhouse with 38 other kids of two different ages,
Thomas overworked and his short tempered teacher finally became flustered with Thomas questioning
and seemingly self centered behavior. Thomas made no secret of his belief that the other kids brains
were scrambled noting that Thomas head was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no question that Edison deserves a huge amount of credit for lighting up the world. Although,
this accomplishment was way less related to his particular discovery of an incandescent light bulb
(A.K.A the globe ball light bulb) than to his creation of the first genuinely safe and economically
practical system for generating and distributing light and power around the world. The majority of
historians usually associate Edison with the invention of the light bulb along with the other 1093
things he did indeed invent, using his bright, beautiful mind. The historians do practically ignore the
greater significance that he called his first model of a complete central power station , that was built in

Apollandsian Vs Dionyysian
Friedrich Nietzsche believed that art fit into two categories: the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or
sometimes a combination of the two. The Apollonian consists of visual art and poetry, while the
Dionysian is music and dancing. But lyrical music, or poetry in music form, is a combination of the
two. Revenge of the Dadaists by The Agonist is this kind of song, as there is emphasis on both the
lyrics and the music. Within the lyrics is an indirect description of the wisdom of Silenus and its
reversal: where life is horrible and death is the end goal, but then art justifies life s problems and
eternal life is desired. The singer also sings in the first person, thus surrendering subjectivity through
the music. And the words imitate the sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But since lyrical music is a combination of both the Apollonian and the Dionysian, it is hard to say
which it supports. Even with the constant use of I throughout many songs, including Revenge of the
Dadaists, it s hard to say if this is the songwriter s voice, the singer s voice, or the universal voice of
humanity in general. Nietzsche says that In the first place, as Dionysian artist he has identified himself
with the Primal Unity, its pain and contradiction... Now, however, under the Apollonian dream
inspiration, this music reveals itself to him again as a symbolic dream picture... The artist has already
surrendered his subjectivity in the Dionysian process. The picture which now shows him his identity
with the heart of the world, is a dream scene, which embodies the primordial contradiction and
primordial pain, together with the primordial joy, of appearance (511 512). In other words, despite the
I used throughout the song, the fact that it is set to music makes the I become part of the Dionysian,
thus representing the whole world. So even while the singer sings about personal issues, these
problems become dreamlike and universal so anyone can connect to them. Thus everyone knows and
feels the singer s pain through contradiction. So in Revenge of the Dadaists, the lyrics You leave

A Study On Genetic Programming
Genetic Programming GP is an evolutionary computing method that uses the principle of Darwinian
natural selection in order to create computer programs to solve a problem. Koza introduced GP (1992)
as a branch of genetic algorithm. GP covers a high level of diversity by breeding random different
computer program as the population. The programs are structured like trees containing functions and
terminals. A function set and a terminal set should be defined as the sources of functions and
terminals. If they are rich enough, tree structures are able to reach any complexity. The function set,
for example, can be built of arithmetic operation (+, −, ×, or ÷), Boolean logic functions (AND, OR,
NOT, etc), mathematical functions (sin, cos, log), conditional functions (IF, THEN, ELSE), or any
other functions. The terminal set can be included of variables, numerical constants, functions with no
argument, etc. Random functions and terminals form a treelike structure program. Branches that
contain functions and terminals are connected to the root point. A typical example of GP tree is shown
in (FIG) Defining terminal and function sets actually determine the search space. GP starts a blind
search for solution by creating random initial population within the search area. GP measure the
fitness of each individual and the ones with better fitness are chosen for building the next generation
by mutation, cross over or direct reproduction [1]. During the reproduction, some of the population

Gender Inequalities Of Workforce And Gender Inequality
Arianna Khoubeserian Mr. Parker Sociology 101 February 1 2017 Gender Inequalities in Workforce
Over the years it has become evident that women face far more significant barriers in the workforce
than men do. A clear representation of this barrier is established by the gender pay gap, which is the
difference in monetary amount received between a woman s and a man s average weekly earnings.
The economy, as a social institution, is affected by gender and sex inequality. The idea of inequality in
the workplace is central to explaining wage disparities and is a crucial factor that intervenes between a
person s human capital. Despite a woman s depth of knowledge and commendable work ethic, there
still remains significant obstacles to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict theory declares that social problems occur when dominant groups, which are the men in the
workforce, mistreat subordinate ones such as the women, and thus advocates for a power imbalance
between genders . Marx viewed the society in two parts, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. In this
social phenomenon, the men represent the people who control all the power and the women represent
the people who are being controlled. Men and women are constantly in the battle to obtain the most
factors of production, yet men seem to have an unfair advantage due to their gender. For example
during job interviews, some questions may revolve around what gender the applicant is. Women are
more likely asked about their duties outside of home or if they are expecting to have children.
Singeling women out by suggesting they would need times to miss work especially due to maternity
leave, portrays women as not being the best fit for the job. They begin to feel vulnerable and not
capable of handling the job. Some conflict theorists believe that the reason these roles continue is
because the dominant group naturally works to maintain their power and status though the less
powerful group and this becomes habitualized in society. Also conflict and inequality are developed
by the unequal distribution of social capital. This imbalance of resources creates conflict within men
and women because women will strive to achieve more as men try to bring them

Abnormal psychology fascinates me, but little to no colleges offer a degree in that area. However, the
study of mind and mental function also intrigues me, and many colleges offer degrees in cognitive
science, a perspective of psychology dealing with mental processing and how humans perceive
situations. Students learn about how the brain works and what impacts how human beings interpret
situations. This degree program varies between colleges; some consider it a Bachelor of Science
degree and some consider it a Bachelor of the Arts degree. In either case, calles call it Cognitive
Science Bachelor Arts or Cognitive Science Bachelor of Science. Many students choose a cognitive
science degree in preparation for a higher level degree. To become a psychologist, students would
need to go on and get a Masters or a PHd; to become a psychiatrist, students would need to attend
medical school and receive their MD. However, cognitive science degrees could also translate into
working as a counselor or even turn into forensic studies, leading to a job working with police

Temple University Reflection
As I prepare for a 10 year Temple University Reunion. I think about all I have accomplished since my
4 years as a Temple owl. I owe great gratitude to Temple university for the great character building ,
innovative teaching, and family life preparing classes that have helped me become the man I am to
today.
A Bachelor in Communication was greatly vital on the path to becoming a Director of
communications for Apple. It was long road getting where I am today, but the great character building
lessons I took with me from Temple University made each road block I faced more conquerable. At
times I even look back on the person I was before attending Temple university. A 18 yr old transfer

learned at Temple University made this quest a completable one. My former professors and counselors
always looked for new ways to help a student. At times the teaching techniques used were so contrast
compared to well known ways, but also positively effective. Each time I gave a speech on a new idea I
thought back on how my professors would have handled it and I always impress the company. My life
as an Apple employee is filled with many things I appreciate each day, but my greatest blessing is at
home. Coming home each day to two beautiful daughters Shelly and Caroline is a feeling that cannot
be replaced. They are so much alike but also different that makes being a father so much more
interesting. Growing up I have never saw myself as a father but the family life classes from Temple

The Baroque Style Of The 19th Century

young artists not only with the many regulations that being extended by the Church but with the
opportunity to learn from the past masters I art. Most of the 17th century was dominated by the
baroque style, whose expressive power was well appropriate to the needs of the Counter Reformation
Church for affecting images. The baroque style develop around 1600 in Rome before spreading across
Europe. It was encouraged and influenced and by the Catholic Church, which used it to propaganda
religious themes, war images, and aristocrats who appreciated the high spirits. The art of the time
focused on showing natural images, intense emotions exaggerated through the play of light and
shadow. Baroque style had a purpose to glorifying the church and monarchy by dramatic images and
scenes (Seventeenth Century Art, par. 1)
Economic: In 17th century new concepts in banking were in play allowing for an increase in the
monetary supply. Advances in agriculture meant more grain, so even the poorest had at the very least

expansion in commerce and industry. Baroque style developed in that era had the purpose to show the

John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran...
John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made his
way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The fruit of
his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands . Synge had many purposes for this
book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically geared account of
the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true Irishness. However, Synge
s anthropological work could not avoid the strong Romantic tendencies that influenced his writing. In
my opinion it is Synge s Romanticism that makes his account more believable. ... Show more content

In Part One of the book he begins by relating the image of the Aranmor countryside as he walks
through it for the first time. He states:
I was wandering out along the one good roadway of the island, looking over low walls on either side
into small flat fields of naked rock. I have seen nothing so desolate. Grey floods of water were
sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road... Whenever the
cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked ridge of the island
above me on the other side... (Synge 2)
The most vivid aspect of this passage is the diction, which Synge uses to describe the island s
environment. More than once Synge uses the word naked to refer to the rock. He also builds further
that image by calling the land desolate and wild . Synge also makes an important play of the colors of
the Aran Islands. He uses the images of grey and black quite often throughout the book. At one point
he states that everywhere he turns he finds, ...the same grey obsession twining and wreathing itself
among the narrow fields... (Synge 46). By describing the island thus he helps the reader build the
image of the Aran Islands as something quite distinct from the lushness of the Irish mainland. The
contrast between the environment of the islands and the mainland is important for Synge to establish,

The Practices Of Earnings Management
From my point of view, I believe that the different practices of earnings management are misleading to
the stakeholders, and it aims at increasing or decreasing the reported earnings based on the executive
decisions and what would serve their position in the market.
This drives us to ask who the users of the company s financial statements are. Those are the parties
that rely on financial statements for decision making. And they are summarized in the following
groups: Employees, Customers, Supplies, Creditors, Shareholders, Financial analysts, Stock
underwriters and Regulators.
Why earnings management may occur

Yet, if something is legal (since GAAP permits many accounting choices) and is profitable for the
company, then some people might assume it is ethical. While on the other hand, I believe that when
carrying out a business decision it should be taken into considerations all its ethical aspects in addition
to its profitability and legibility aspects.
Thus, in my opinion earnings management does not meet the ethical requirements of an executive job.
To ensure that the executives or managers performance and decisions are in line with professional
ethics, we must see whether their decision implementations would have negative effect on others. And
in this case it is clearly affecting financial statement users.
How earnings management might affect the firm itself?
Earnings management is not effective on the short term as it will not increase the firm s profits, they
may even worsen the enterprises operating difficulties if the executive decisions were not efficient or
if they were not accurate in their expectations and anticipation of the future earnings.
The earnings management opportunities might affect the firm future performance because the
executive would be willing to sacrifice future cash flows for current period income.
It may lead to damage the interests of shareholders and to lose their trust and confidence in

Rhetorical Analysis Of Cesar Chavez
About 85% of churches are not fully active with their community. Statics have higher throughout the
years, about 40 years ago Mexicans were being treated unfairly due to poor working conditions. This
unbarring situation leads to a fellow leader, Chavez to step up and build a firm foundation to led us
Mexican Americans to success. Chavez had many helpers from different communities, but his own.
The Mexican American organization was let down by their own church. This escalated to such an
overwhelming experience. In Chavez speech, The Mexican Americans and the Church insinuates the
catastrophe of the church s involvement. Chavez explains his purpose thoroughly to the audience, uses
pathos and has an effective tone to allow him to build his organization. Therefore, Cesar Chavez
wanted the church to support his organization, therefore his intended audience for his speech was his
local church and the Mexican American Community. Cesar went through a spiritual fasting, in which
he did not eat due to the hazardous chemicals in field fruit. Chavez was a Catholic and used his morals
for a nonviolent protest to better working conditions for field workers. He was the leader of the
Mexican American Community in Delano, Ca. He indicates how powerful a church s involvement can
be: It is powerful moral and spiritual force cannot be ignored by any movement (Chavez). He believes
if the church got more involved they would grow as an organization and would strive to be seen and
heard. Chavez had strong hopes to fulfil his dream of making a change. The church s involvement
would heavy impact his journey He wants to persuade, change their options and have a wider
spectrum. In addition, Chavez wants the church to hear his opinion. He stated this matter at the
Second Annual Conference in Sacramento, Ca. After his speech he gained over 6,000 people to join
his fast. He could have not accomplished that without the help of an organization called California
Migrant Ministry. This organization is a protestant group who helped Chavez succeed. Because their
relationship grew, the ministry was right by Cesar s side during the strikes. He later on explains how
supportive the ministry was, When 30 of the strikers were arrested for

The Two Types Of Symptoms Of Parkinson s Disease
The Two Types of Symptoms of Parkinson s Disease
Parkinson s disease (PD), a degenerative nervous system disorder, is more common every day, yet it is
still a mystery on what causes it. More than a million Americans have been diagnosed with PD and
every year there are 60,000 new cases. Affecting older people, it is the second most common disorder
and the condition is expected to increase as the aging population increases. PD essentially is the loss
of dopamine producing neurons. The increase in research has led to a wide range of possibilities to the
causes involving both genetic and environmental factors. There are two different types of symptoms:
motor and non motor.
The diagnosis of Parkinson s disease can be challenging as the symptoms that are exhibited can also
be symptoms of another neurodegenerative disorder (Gazewood 2013). There are no biological
markers (tests or screenings) available for PD but researchers are working to develop an accurate one
(PDF 2016).
The cause of Parkinson s disease is unknown but it is thought to be linked to combined effects of
genetic factors and environmental factors. There is a greater risk of having Parkinson s disease if
someone in the family has been diagnosed with it. The genes linked to PD are SNCA, LRRK2,
PARK2, and PINK1 (Lill et al. 2012). PD is also more common in non Hispanic whites and in males
(Van Den Eeden 2003). The environmental factors are pesticide exposure, occupational exposure,
cigarette smoking or dietary factors

A Comparison Between King Lear and Oedipus
King Lear Comparison
A tragedy is not only an imitation of life in general but an imitation of an action, as Aristotle defined
his ideas in the Poetics, which presents Oedipus as an ultimate tragic hero. There is a obvious link
between the two characters in that blindness both literal and metaphorical is a strong theme in the
stories.
Issues of self recognition and self knowledge are significant for Oedipus as well as King Lear. For
Aristotle, Reversal, Recognition and Suffering are key elements in a complex tragedy. The human
instinct to seek knowledge of and to know an individual s character is essential to understand their
actions (Aristotle, 1 49). King Lear and King Oedipus find that self recognition and self knowledge ...

Thebes high esteem for Oedipus is shown through the Chorus until the bitter end of the play. In the
beginning of the play King Oedipus is a person of vast self assurance. This character attribute is
demonstrated in his willingness to take the full responsibility for dealing with the crisis, the plague.
King Oedipus feels certain that he will also manage this crisis as he has done before with the riddle of
the sphinx. He feels so self assure that he even thinks he is able to trick the oracle and the gods by
simply fleeing Corinth. But this is a big miscalculation as the play shows. The outline in the story of
Oedipus s self discovery begins when he starts to solve the second riddle, the riddle of Laius death.
During this solving Oedipus character changes from an honour man to a fearful, condemned man by
his tragic fate in the end. The changing of the character is accompanied by the changing of the riddle:
the question Who is the murderer of Laius? changes to Who am I? Aristotle in his Poetics discusses
this reversal when he speaks of a change of the action into the opposite (Aristotle, 18). As the tragedy
moves on, finding the truth for Oedipus becomes an obsession. The dispute between Teiresias and
Oedipus demonstrates that Oedipus does not even take the possibility of involvement in something
bad into consideration. Teiresias, after he has been provoked,

NASH Case Study
Hepatocyte lipotoxicity and liver inflammation
Beside hepatocyte injury and death, inflammation is another histological hallmark of NASH. The
inflammation during NASH is described as sterile inflammation as the inflammatory response occurs
in the absence of pathogens or external antigens.44 This sterile inflammation may be a consequence of
lipid induced hepatocyte stress, damage, and cell death. Indeed, cell death can trigger an inflammatory
response by innate immune cells.6 On the other hand, a sustained inflammatory response may
contribute to hepatocellular injury and death, creating a feed forward loop between tissue injury and
inflammation. Inflammation in NASH is most strikingly associated with activation of the innate
immune system, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DAMPs are recognized by so called pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), which were initially studied
as receptors for bacterial products (pathogen associated molecular patterns). PRRs comprise a variety
of receptors expressed both on the cell surface and intracellularly. In NAFLD, the family of TLRs is
the best characterized PRRs. Cell surface TLR4 is expressed by Kupffer cells, hepatocytes, liver
sinusoidal endothelial cells and hepatic stellate cells, and can be activated by multiple ligands
including polysaccharide (LPS), HMGB1, heat shock proteins and free fatty acids. In vitro, treatment
of macrophages with free fatty acids activates TLR4 signaling and macrophage proinflammatory
polarization.46 In isolated hepatocytes, free fatty acids stimulate secretion of HMGB1, which in turn
activates hepatocyte TLR4 signaling in an autocrine manner, leading to hepatocyte NF κB activation
and cytokine expression.47 In vivo, specific TLR4 deletion in hepatocytes prevented obesity induced
insulin resistance and systemic inflammation during high fat diet feeding.48 In another study, while
whole body deletion of TLR4 attenuated the development of NASH in an MCD diet mouse model.49
Taken together, these studies suggest that inhibition of TLR4 activation appears to be a promising
therapeutic strategy for NASH.

Criticism Of Cultural Criticism
Everything that points to cultural studies or criticism portrays it as a complex theory which derives its
strength from an uncanny sense of incertitude, as it covers a wide expanse of the areas of literary
criticism. To begin with, a basic understanding is quite appropriate. It is this kind of complexity in
question that caused Angela McRobbie to talk of the messiness of cultural studies (722). By this is
meant, most probably, that its roots are too deeply convoluted and intertwined in a single woof with
other theories.
Beginning on the level of definition, Bennet writes that, Cultural Studies has been defined as an
interdisciplinary endeavour concerned with the analysis of cultural forms and activities in the context
of the relations of power which condition their production, circulation, deployment and, of course,
effects (60). Cultural criticism, in essence, has more to do with literature and its subtle projections of
society. Also, the complexity and flexibility of this framework accords the opportunity to glide from
one theory of relevance to another without exactly straying away totally, since cultural criticism has
established relationships with a myriad of other theoretical frameworks. It is for this reason that Jarvis
purports: In addition to appearing in a variety of subject areas, cultural studies is also associated with a
wide range of critical theories that includes Marxism and feminism, postcolonialism and
psychoanalysis, structuralism and

Analyzing Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, And Nite Owl
Comic books have picked up popularity as a method for scholars to gain insight as to how society
confronts problems. The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and
how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan,
Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently.
To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of
the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the Human imagination takes two separate
images and transforms them into a single idea (McCloud 66). In his chapter blood in the gutter
McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect reader s sensibility. However,
violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too risqué also
happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character s sexuality will also take place in the gutter.
Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the
gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero s masculinity takes place there.
The first character I want to discuss is Dr. Manhattan and how his sexuality and use of violence play
into his performance of masculinity. Dr. Manhattan cannot understand the human conceptions of
sexuality or the true repercussions of violence; therefore, he uses the ideology of society to go

Identifying and analyzing global integrated marketing campaigns
Abstract
Integrated marketing is a strategy regarding the application of consistent brand messaging across
myriad marketing channels. It came about after businesses realized that they needed to offer their
customers more than the regular method of advertising. Integrated communication is mainly focused
on the consumer rather than the needs of an organization. It has improved the performance of many
businesses in various markets and their brands. This paper seeks to identify the global integrated
marketing campaigns and analyze them with the use of case studies in the television and print media.
Introduction
In order for a business to create awareness of its products and convince people to buy them, it needs to
do a promotion of the product. This involves communication. The goal of promotion is create
awareness to consumers of a certain product in the market. Secondly, to persuade customers to choose
their product compared to rival products. Lastly, promotion aims to remind the customers on the
importance of buying the product. There are five main types of promotions:
Advertising
Personal selling
Sales promotion
Direct marketing
Public relations
The concept of integrated marketing communication (IMC) emerged in the late twentieth century. This
bore out of a realization by marketers that there was a need for businesses to offer more than

all processes, by creating new and more effective processes. To the health care company, The Cost of
Quality may look and feel slightly different, yet in many ways both are the same. Both companies may
operate and produce different products, and operate in two different market segments, both are
concerned with delivering customer driven quality products or services in the most cost effective
manner. Therefore, if we use a comparative analysis and the Six Sigma standard problem solving
methodologies and apply it to the Costs of Quality , Six Sigma Project Selection and the role of The
Green Belt we know that each looks to eliminate the root cause of defects and poor customer
satisfaction scores. We will discuss these similarities and the differences in manufacturing and in
health care and the importance of determining who the Voice of the Customer (VOC) is, to responding
quickly to any sudden market change or in customer driven demand changes and for each current
customer, lost customer, or any future customers.
Similarities in The Cost of Quality
The cost of quality in a manufacturing company versus a health care company is identifying the areas
of similarities and differences in their use of a cumulative cost of a quality measurement system.

We Are The Cosmos Made Conscious And Life Is The Means By...
We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself.
Brian Cox. What is consciousness? I remember being a student in a NSCS 200 class, answering the
attendance question of whether plants are conscious beings. They aim to fulfill a goal, they sense
things, and with those stimuli, they make actions. So theoretically, they are conscious. But do they
have consciousness? Are they aware what they are doing and why they are doing it? Do they feel
things within themselves? And if the answers are no, what is then the difference between humans and
between plants?
Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, anything that we are at a
given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most
familiar and most mysterious aspects of our lives. Searching for the word consciousness in the
dictionary, a definition of the state or quality of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or
something within oneself could be found. It can also be described as sentience, awareness,
subjectivity, the ability to think or feel, and the executive control of the mind. Many theories of where
consciousness comes from have arisen, but there seems to be an underlying theme of what
consciousness is, in the broader sense, to most theories.
For instance, most theories agree that all sensory organs and their perceptions must combine within
the brain to give us consciousness, and not separate

Ever since I was a little kid I have always responded positively to music. It has consistently been my

The Challenges Of Philip II And Elizabeth I
Philip II and Elizabeth I are two of the most important figures during the 16th century. Philip played a
major role in Spain once his father (Charles V) stepped down while Elizabeth was a key figure in
England as she ruled and showed her feminism. Both figures had a rough path to lead as the subjects
were always a problem. To understand Philip carefully, the full history of his reign is crucial when
looking at Spain. Challenges were already given to him from his father and Philip had to learn fast. On
the other hand, Elizabeth had a rough childhood and she had to win over her subjects. Through critical
examination of primary sources, strategic characteristics will be presented while under what influence
they were in throughout their reign. Therefore, the opposite backgrounds to the throne, resistance from
subjects, and different strategies ultimately led these two together through war. Charles V stepped
down in 1556 and Philip II took over when he was young. Already, Philip was getting praise from
people in the administration. He had the characteristics of listening to advisors while still showing that
he was informed in the topic of discussion. Ambassador Suriano even said that in the king s eyes no
nation is superior to the Spaniards. It is among them that he lives, it is they that he consults, and it is
they that direct his policy; in all this he is acting quite contrary to the habit of his father. Philip is

In the works Thin Blue Line, Capturing the Friedmans, and Vertigo the creation of reality and the truth

recreate the reality of Madeline through Judy by forcing her to dye her hair, and wear the same exact

these monstrous actions (Rotham 231). However, it is this inability to let his past go that leads him to

However, none of this would have not been possible without Scottie s effort to recreate the reality of
his lover Madeleine. It is through this recreation that truth behind Judy s identity, and the cause of

Martin Heidigger s Response To Modernity Analysis
To understand Martin Heidigger s response to Modernity one would have to examine the relationship
between their notions of Man. Martin Heidigger s concept of Man, a being in the world, is very
different from the Modern view of man as a thinking being. One believes that understanding comes
from a purely subject object perspective wherein the understanding of the world around us is
performed by our internal, completely separate, I because it is perfect and known innately while the
other believes that to be a being is to actively Be , which is the same as Heidigger s notion of Being,
and to Be is to exist or to be engaged in the world therefore connecting being, Being and the world
forming the concept of Dasein or a being in the world. To understand Heidigger s response one would
have to first understand what it is he s responding to. Cogito Ergo Sum summarizes what the Cartesian
man is all about. The idea that to exist is to think separates the world into the inner world and the
outside world; this idea resulted from Descartes search for an absolute truth which does not base its
validity on the external world, because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the late 1980s and into the early 1990s. The film covers the topics of many horrible things that were
affecting the lives of many people back in that time era. The topics include poverty, HIV/AIDS, and

expected the popular reviews to discuss the music and the controversial topics. I expected the same
from the film critics and academic writers; however, I felt that the academic writers would be more
detailed and opinionated in their discussion. The popular reviews tend to focus on the music, the issue
of AIDS, and the setting. They praise the director and producer for keeping the true feel and realistic
quality of a New York City project. They also dote on the characters and their singing abilities.
However, I tend to find more praise going towards Rosario Dawson, who played Mimi. One viewer
states, Rosario Dawson s portrayal as Mimi was phenomenal. Her Out Tonight dancing, however, is
hot and floored every male in the room (Popular Review #2). Another viewer says, Her (Rosario
Dawson) singing of Without You is sure to bring the house down in tears. If there s any wisdom left in
the bunch, watch to see her rewarded by the Academy come award nomination time (Popular Review

Waste Glass Aggregate Concrete Countertop
RESEARCH PROPOSAL
RESEARCH TITLE: Durability of waste glass aggregate concrete countertop INTRODUCTION A
Wall Street Journal article once reported that some cities in the US are pulling back from the recycling
of waste glass. The sustainability officer for the town of Montclair, N.J, was mentioned in the report
saying; glass has become the scourge of recycling, and money can t be made from it. This problem
associated with waste glass could be resolved through seeking profitable alternative uses for the waste
glass. Using the waste glass as an aggregate in concrete countertops is one of those alternatives. Waste
glass as an aggregate in concrete designs like countertops would not only be a profitable creative
application of waste glass, but also promotes its uses in producing an environmentally friendly product
design.
Concrete is one of the oldest and durable composite materials in building and construction
engineering. Its importance cannot be overestimated. However, some of its traditional aggregates
release a lot of carbon dioxide to the environment during production. In broadening the use of
concrete as internal household design like countertops, exploiting the potentials of crushed waste glass
as a substitute for the carbon dioxide emitting aggregate is reasonable step towards a greener and
healthy environment. The objectives of this research are; using waste crushed glass as a partial
replacement for

Dashiell Femmett Essay
My top ten reasons why this Dashiell Hammett is one of the greatest crime novels ever written:
1. The Voice Tough, Crisp hardboiled the story isn t told in first person but certainly has the feel of

from first to last page.
2. The City The buildings and streets in San Francisco have such a tangible presence, even today, after
nearly 100 years, they still give Maltese Falcon tours.
3. Femme Fatale Brigid O Shaughnessy is the femme fatale. Her looks, her way of speaking, her
cunning, her charms, her allurement legions of writers of detective fiction have changed her name, her

The Color of Character Dashiell Hammett set the gold standard here for writers of detective fiction.
The fat man was flabbily fat with bulbous pink cheeks and lips and chins and neck, with a great soft
egg of a belly that was all his torso, and pendant cones for arms and legs. As he advanced to meet
Spade all his bulbs rose and shook and fell separately with such step, in the manner of clustered soap
bubbles not yet released from the pipe through which they had been blown. His eyes, made small by
fat puffs around them, where dark and sleek. Dark ringlets thinly covered his broad scalp. He wore a
back cutaway coat, black vest, black satin Ascot tie holding a pinkish pearl, striped grey worsted
trousers, and patent leather shoes. His voice was a throaty purr.
8. The Moral Code As one character finds out the hard way, Sam Spade is a man of the high,
uncompromising character. You will have to read the novel to find out just how high and just how
uncompromising.
9. The Whole is Greater than the Parts The Maltese Falcon has that special something that separates it
from other crime fiction, even crime fiction of the first order. What is it? Hard to put your finger on it,
but as millions of readers have discovered every time they pick it up, this is one doozy of a classic.

Norman, The Conqueror And The Norman Army
Norman success in late 11th century England
The tactics used by William the Conqueror and the Norman army, militarily, administratively, and
culturally, impacted their success in imposing their power within the English kingdom. These tactics
worked in tandem, increasing the success of each of their objectives. The military force used by the
Normans was useful in gaining and later maintaining territories for the crown, the administration
allowed William the Conqueror s reign to act in a more effective manner under him in the early days
of his rule, and the cultural and religious structures allowed the Normans to integrate the already
closely tied Norman and English societies.
Arguably the most important factor in the exertion of power over the English was the ability by the
Normans to act militarily. The warlike attitude of the Normans, combined with the religious aspects
that will be discussed later, provided them with a ready and capable army with which to support
William s claim to the throne. The early years of William s rule, after the 1066 defeat of Harold,
emerged as a sort of military occupation within England by the Normans. These years were crucial in
the Norman advance within England. When William came to England he arrived with a large support
of military men and much of these supporting military men remained in England because of their
military duties. This army aided William not only in the initial battle against Harold, but later as well,

This job gave Snowden a top secret clearance and greater access to surveillance secrets than he

Secondary Characters in Romeo and Juliet
While secondary characters are less important than the main characters of the book, they often have a
noteworthy impact on the story. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, a secondary character,
Friar Lawrence, plays a vital role throughout the play. The play takes place in Verona and focuses on
Romeo and Juliet, two star crossed lovers from two feuding families; the Montagues and the Capulets.
The extremely violent feud between these families has been ongoing for generations, extending out to
even the serving men of both houses. Romeo and Juliet must profess their love in secret because of the
quarrel between their parents. This is a catalyst in triggering tragic events, consisting of the deaths of
many other characters, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prevent Juliet s suicide, the Friar comes up with a plan. He says to Juliet, take thou this vial, being
then in bed, and this distilling liquor drink thou off. (IV.i.95 96) Friar Lawrence wants Juliet to fake
her own death and lie in the tomb of Capulet, to get out of marrying Paris. However, this plan
backfires when Romeo does not receive the letter that the Friar had sent him and he kills himself over
Juliet s death , and Juliet in response kills herself over his death. The Friar s exertion contributes to the
plot, because the tragedy at the end of the play would not have occurred without his actions. Friar
Lawrence reveals major qualities about Romeo, including his obsessive and foolish behavior. Friar
Lawrence begins chastising Romeo for being over Rosaline, a woman that did not return Romeo s
love, and then falling for Juliet so quickly. Romeo then remarks that the Friar had usually scolded him
for loving Rosaline, to which the Friar replies, for doting, not love, pupil mine (II.iii.87). Friar
Lawrence is admonishing Romeo for his immature infatuation with Rosaline. By doing this, it is clear
that Romeo was obsessive over his love for Rosaline. After killing Tybalt, the Prince declares Romeo s
banishment and Romeo goes crying to the Friar claiming that death would be a better punishment than
banishment. The Friar responds to this by saying, O deadly sin, O rude unthankfulness!...This is dear

Charlie Chaplin The Gold Rush , is a silent comedic film about going after the American dream and
the hardships one must endure while trying to survive against all odds. As usual Chaplin plays his
famous character , the tramp , a dim witted under dog. He is a lone prospector who falls in love with a

in this film. In this film, viewers see hardship through the perspective of disillusion and starved gold

The Effect Of Temperature On Cellular Respiration
All living things require energy to function. Two main strategies pursued by organisms include the
oxygen requiring cellular respiration, which relies on glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and oxidative
phosphorylation to produce 36 38 ATP per glucose molecule consumed, and oxygen free fermentation,
which relies on glycolysis and the generation of an organic molecule and CO2 to generate 2 ATP per
glucose molecule. These metabolic processes are nuanced and can behave differently when subjected
to varying environmental constraints and reaction conditions. Here, the effects of temperature and
carbohydrate source and yeast s fermentative ability is examined. Furthermore, the effect of varying
succinate concentration on cellular respiration is also examined in lima bean mitochondrial extracts.
For fermentation, the results show that increased temperature increases fermentation rate, while
glucose and sucrose are far more optimal for fermentation relative to saturated starch solutions. For
cellular respiration, the results show that increased succinate levels enable cellular respiration to
proceed more efficiently.
Introduction:
Cellular respiration refers to the conversion of bio organic materials, such as sugars, into useful
biochemical energy. More specifically defined, it refers to the oxidization of sugars into carbon
dioxide and water, with energy originally trapped in the sugars released in the form of ATP. The
chemical equation for cellular respiration is provided below

How Water Transportation Would Be Further Revolutionized...
Water transportation would be further revolutionized by the construction of canals. In 1825, New York
opened the Erie Canal, which connected the five Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Northern states
like Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio also invested large amounts of money to build a network
of canals connecting the Mississippi to the Great Lakes. As a result s, water transportation was much
faster and cheaper. By 1827, wheat from central New York State could be bought for less money in
Savannah, Georgia, than wheat grown in Georgia. This apparently had a great influence upon New
York, stimulating the growth of economy. Such advantages for the North hurt the economies of
Southern states such as Georgia, as its prices were no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South, like other slave based societies, did not construct urban centers for commerce, finance, and
industry on a scale rival with those found in the North. Southern cities, instead, were small as they
failed to develop diversified economies and rarely engaged in international trade. On the contrary,
southern cities primarily engaged in local trade. They marketed and transported cotton or other
agricultural crops, supplied local planters and farmers with such necessities as agricultural tools, and
produced manufactured goods, such as cotton gins, sold mostly to farmers. Southerners neglect
industry and transportation improvements, like the railroads and canals of New York and
Pennsylvania, due to the over reliance on slave based system. As a result, manufacturing and
transportation lagged far behind in comparison to the North . Despite falling further and further behind
in respect to economic growth, the south still managed to establish an aggressive sense of nationalism
that was entrenched in its belief of its distinguished character and its illusion about oppressing by
enemies (i.e. the North and blacks). The South began to consider itself more and more as the true
guardian of America s heritage. Southern tourists who ventured into the North viewed it as a alien and

empathizes the principle of the absoluteness of God and his image. One of Ibn Taymiyya s quotes Bin
Laden used was if the danger to religion from not fighting is greater than that of fighting, then it is a
duty to fight even if the intentions of some of the fighters are not pure (Zaman 443), this quote goes
against Prophet Muhammad s teachings and emphasis on good intention, he once said actions are
according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended , in this case, if some of the fighters
would participate in fighting the USA for the sake of killing soldiers (bad intention), then they are
simply considered murders, and such actions should obviously not be encouraged in the name of
religion, which invalidates Ibn Taymiyya s

A Thrilling and Unusual Love Story by Robert Browning,...
Porphyria s Lover is a thrilling, and rather unusual love story by Robert Browning, given from a
deranged man s perspective. It is the tale of a man who is so infatuated with Porphyria that he decides
to keep her for himself, as if she was a doll or some type of prize. What makes this poem so
interesting is that the only twisted way he feels he can keep her, is by killing her. The poem uniquely
depicts the separation of social classes, feminism, describes how a man overcomes a rather biased
society, and also uses symbolism to represent the Industrial Revolution which was taking place at the
time. In many of his poems, Browning questions the rights and almost seems to mock the ideas of
what women had to be portray in the Victorian era, this is especially present in his poem Porphyria s
Lover . Browning also mentions in the poem what women were meant to be like at the time, yet he
also talks about how some tried to escape from the harsh lifestyle they lived just like Porphyria.
During the Victorian era, the separation of social classes was a major issue for the society. Different
social classes can be (and were by the classes themselves) distinguished by inequalities in such areas
as power, authority, wealth, working and living conditions, life styles, life span, education, religion,
and culture (victorianweb.org). This idea can be captured in Porphyria s Lover in various aspects.
First, Porphyria could be a symbol for the upper class and the speaker a representation of

To understand the Klan, then, it is necessary to understand the character and present mind of the mass
of old stock Americans. The mass, it must be remembered, as distinguished from the intellectually
mongrelized Liberals. These are, in the first place, a blend of various people of the so called Nordic
race, the race which, with all its faults, has given the world almost the whole of modern civilization.
The Klan does not try to represent any people but these. Document E Source: Langston Hughes, The
Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain, The Nation, 1926 Jazz to me is one of the inherent expressions
of Negro life in America: the eternal tom tom beating in the Negro soul the tom tom of revolt against

Symptoms And Treatment Of Pancreatic Cancer
Introduction:
Intraductal papillary mucinous duct neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMN p) are one of the subtypes of
cystic neoplasms of the pancreas. They are neoplasms that arise in the pancreatic ducts and can be
visualized as they are usually greater than 0.5 inch in length. They are comprised of tall mucin
producing columnar cells, that have the capability of transforming into pancreatic cancer if left
untreated. Their ability to develop into pancreatic cancer is one of the main reasons behind their
significance. IPMNs commonly exhibit cell atypia, papillary propagation, and cyst production. Their
main feature is the ability to produce copious amounts of fluid.
In general pancreatic cysts are not an uncommon finding on abdominal computerized tomography
(CT) scans. A study done at University College Dublin in 2008, in which, 2,832 abdominal CT scans
were evaluated for presence of pancreatic cysts, showed that 2.6% of people have pancreatic cysts.
These patients had no history of pancreatic disease, and had no pancreatic symptoms at the time of the
scan i.e the abdominal scan was done for other reasons. Pancreatic cysts increased with age, with zero
cysts found in patients below 40 and up to 8.7% of scans of those above 80 years of age had cysts
present. (12)
IPMNs of the pancreas can occur in either the main pancreatic duct or in one of its branches. The
smaller the branch size in which the neoplasm arose, the higher the likelihood of a less aggressive
neoplasm. Tumors

Support Transportation Changes Throughout Different Periods
Central Government.
The participation of the central government willing to support transportation changes appeared at
different periods. The first attempt was during the administration of León Febres Cordero (1984 1998)
giving support to the Empresa Municipal de Transporte. After him, Rodrigo Borja s (1988 1992) team
developed plans that will improve transportation in the city. Their main idea was to acquire a train to
connect the south of the city with the valleys. Nevertheless, that option was not the best alternative
due to the few population living at the valleys (Interviewer X, 2016). During this administration, ideas
of decentralizing power to local authorities grew, and the congress began to discuss about it . Finally,

The minister did not like the electric buses because its maintenance could represent more problems to
the municipality (Interviewer X, 2016). Nevertheless, the final decision from Durán Ballén
administration was to support the development of the project and the minister had to authorize the
budget and credit for it . To sum up, the central government might have had differences with the
municipality and different projects in mind yet they always supported projects that will benefits
citizens the most.
The negotiation of the funding had to be government government and CONADE (National Council
for Development) had to be considered because this institution created reports from international
investments on local projects. Their work was to analyze, comment, advice and suggest to the relevant
authorities about the conditions of the investment and the investor so they can make the final decision
(Interviewer X, 2016). In this specific case, CONADE had to read the conditions offered by the
different companies that participated on the bidding for the development of Trolebús and provide
reports about each tender and gave the final results to the municipality so they can make the final
decision.

A Comparison of Healthcare in Canada and the United...
Canada s healthcare system started in 1946 and is made up of a group of socialized health insurance
plans that provides coverage to all Canadian citizens. It is publicly funded and administered on a
provincial or territorial basis with in the rules set by their federal government. Since the late 1960 s
Canada essential has had a universal health insurance system covering all services provided by
physicians and hospitals. In 1966 Lester B Pearson s government subsequently expanded a policy of
the universal healthcare with the medical care act. Canada s healthcare system is the subject of
political controversy and debate in the country. While healthcare in America began in the late 1800 s

Under this system individual citizens are provided preventative care and medical treatments from
primary care physicians as well as access to hospitals, dental surgery and additional medical services.
With few exceptions, all citizens qualify for health coverage regardless of medical history, personal
income, or standard of living. (Canadian Health Care, 2004 2007) These insurance plans are
provincial or territorial and are financed by both the federal and the provincial authorities. Provinces
are similar to states in the US, and Canada has 10 provinces, which are Alberta, British Columbia,
Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward
Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan. From about 1940 to 1950 the American government stepped in and
encouraged employers to offer health insurance as a part of employee compensation packages which
in turn the supply of health insurance increased as more and more commercial insurance companies
entered the market and the use of healthcare increased as medical technology became more
sophisticated.
In Canada, although private insurance companies exist they are not allowed to cover services provided
under provincial plans. In each province only one public insurance entity is responsible for
reimbursing hospitals and physicians. Patients are free to choose their physicians, but they do not

Capital Punishment And Capital Involvement
Capital punishment is an individual punishment to death for committing a crime. The history of
capital punishment fluctuates worldwide, between different governments and beliefs. The current
issue of capital punishment is taking lives without having a reliable reason to take them to the death
penalty. One large and main issue is that capital punishment breaches, or breaks two essential human
rights, which are the rights to life, and rights to living free of torture. This is a huge issue because an
individual should not be able to surpass any conditions when the operations of the executions go
against human rights. Another opposition of capital punishment is that many countries are sided with
the penalties, however, the citizens of the country may think differently dependant on their religions
and beliefs. The opposition between the government and the population in the country is another large
issue because the diverse opinion only makes matters worse. Though many countries remain to argue
that the punishments are beneficial, terminating the legal penalty would save thousands of lives.
Discontinuing the penalties would benefit the whole world by cutting the large amount of taxes just
for individual deaths, and the new adjustment would save lives from false reasons, and
misunderstandings.
UN Involvement: The main participant into capital punishment is the OHCHR or the Office of the
High Commissioner for Human Rights. The committee is helping with the global issue by having

Basic Classic Threats For It Systems And Data
1. What are the four basic classic threats to IT systems and data? Give an example of each. According
to Mr Moeller, we can classify IT system threats as four main classes. Interruptions: interruption refers
to the situation where an IT component, typically a hardware or a software, gets corrupted or is
completely lost. The main issue behind this kind of thread consists of the disruption of service
provided by that IT component. An example could be someone performing a denial of service on an IT
system by overwhelming network connections. Interceptions: this class encompasses all threat related
with the stealing of, gaining unauthorized access to, data or service. For instance, it could be a
program or a user trying to illegally access another system or data. One example that particularly
applies to this scenario includes eavesdropping communication between system to retrieve or capture
data. Modification: I believe this one could the most dangerous class as any threat that fall into this
categories not only affects/tampers a system but also removes tractability. In other words, this kind of
threat tends to alter system environment without leaving. Thinking of hacking tool such as metasploit,
that is exactly the definition/description of some payload such as reverse shell. A user that managed to
get a reverse shell from a target machine can modify environment parameter such as permission,
process ID of running program as well as deleting log files that may hint plausible

The roots of the White Australia policy can be outlined to the 1850s. Until the White Australia s policy
was abolished in the twentieth century, Australia was officially defined as white. Aboriginal and
Torres Strait islander people were not considered the part of White Australia, and indigenous Studies
was not required in the school curriculum. This meant schooling was culturally unsuitable for
indigenous students. Furthermore, the Australian students were not educated to appreciate Indigenous
cultures either in past or present. Aboriginal Studies is about social justice for all Australians equity,
human rights, a fair go and mutual respect for our fellow Australians. It is hard to define social justice
but everybody knows what it is, particularly when it is missing ( Craven, 2011, p 3).

  • 2. College Is The Mistake Of Not Taking Advantage Of School... Many students in college make the mistake of not taking advantage of school resources and activities. Afterall, taking advantage of college s resources and participating in activities is what completes the full college experience. Those type of people believe that the only thing universities have to offer is education. While that is partially true, universities offer more than just classes. Universities such as Cal Poly Pomona, offer a variety of different things that can help students succeed. Not only does it offer helpful activities and enjoyable events but universities intend to keep it a safe campus in order for students to enjoy their full college experience. Cal Poly provides students with a good learning environment with many resources, school safety and social events. Cal Poly Pomona offers a variety of academic and personal help for all students. In college, there is academic help such as tutoring, writing centers, and office hours with professors. Cal Poly Pomona offers free tutoring daily for many different subjects. The library has a writing center where tutors will help students develop a strong paper through guidance and support. Other tutors will meet up with students and help steer them towards the right direction. In addition, professors always have their doors open during office hours and are there for one reason and that is to help their students. • 3. Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner From the silent epic of Fritz Lang Metropolis 1927 to Ridley s Scott s spectacular Blade Runner 1982 the connection between architecture and film has always been intimate. The most apparent concepts that connect these two films are the overall visuals of both films and their vision of city of the future. The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography, and social structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by which society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it. Metropolis and Blade Runner uses the themes relationships amongst female sexuality and male vision, and technology. However, Gender roles and technology seems to be the most important part in both films. Blade Runner became a cult classic. The film may have survived long enough to benefit from a renewed taste for darker, more violent sci fi. It s appeal has less to do with a fascination for outer space (which does not feature beyond reference in a few lines of dialogue) than with a vision of earth and humankind in the near future (Roberts and Wallis Pg 157 8). Both films have a timeless quality to it, as they are representative of the future of our planet earth. I find it so interesting that even though these films were made in different times their ideas about the futuristic city and society are almost identical. The futuristic aspect of these ... • 4. Thomas Edison Accomplishments Genius is two percent inspiration and ninety eight percent perspiration, said by one of the most ingenious inventors in American history. Thomas Alva Edison held more than 1,000 registered trademarks and is best remembered for inventing the phonograph or jukebox/stereo turntable in 1877. He also invented the first commercially successful electric light bulb two years later. Although Edison did not invent the light bulb, he developed a durable fiber/thread that made its use practical. Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, which was a community that was the largest wheat shipping center in the world other than Odessa,Russia. His family moved to Port Huron, Michigan in 1854, which exceeded the commercial excellence of both Milan and Odessa. After spending 12 weeks in the noisy one room schoolhouse with 38 other kids of two different ages, Thomas overworked and his short tempered teacher finally became flustered with Thomas questioning and seemingly self centered behavior. Thomas made no secret of his belief that the other kids brains were scrambled noting that Thomas head was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no question that Edison deserves a huge amount of credit for lighting up the world. Although, this accomplishment was way less related to his particular discovery of an incandescent light bulb (A.K.A the globe ball light bulb) than to his creation of the first genuinely safe and economically practical system for generating and distributing light and power around the world. The majority of historians usually associate Edison with the invention of the light bulb along with the other 1093 things he did indeed invent, using his bright, beautiful mind. The historians do practically ignore the greater significance that he called his first model of a complete central power station , that was built in Brockton, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Apollandsian Vs Dionyysian Friedrich Nietzsche believed that art fit into two categories: the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or sometimes a combination of the two. The Apollonian consists of visual art and poetry, while the Dionysian is music and dancing. But lyrical music, or poetry in music form, is a combination of the two. Revenge of the Dadaists by The Agonist is this kind of song, as there is emphasis on both the lyrics and the music. Within the lyrics is an indirect description of the wisdom of Silenus and its reversal: where life is horrible and death is the end goal, but then art justifies life s problems and eternal life is desired. The singer also sings in the first person, thus surrendering subjectivity through the music. And the words imitate the sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But since lyrical music is a combination of both the Apollonian and the Dionysian, it is hard to say which it supports. Even with the constant use of I throughout many songs, including Revenge of the Dadaists, it s hard to say if this is the songwriter s voice, the singer s voice, or the universal voice of humanity in general. Nietzsche says that In the first place, as Dionysian artist he has identified himself with the Primal Unity, its pain and contradiction... Now, however, under the Apollonian dream inspiration, this music reveals itself to him again as a symbolic dream picture... The artist has already surrendered his subjectivity in the Dionysian process. The picture which now shows him his identity with the heart of the world, is a dream scene, which embodies the primordial contradiction and primordial pain, together with the primordial joy, of appearance (511 512). In other words, despite the I used throughout the song, the fact that it is set to music makes the I become part of the Dionysian, thus representing the whole world. So even while the singer sings about personal issues, these problems become dreamlike and universal so anyone can connect to them. Thus everyone knows and feels the singer s pain through contradiction. So in Revenge of the Dadaists, the lyrics You leave footsteps of fire / So no one can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Study On Genetic Programming Genetic Programming GP is an evolutionary computing method that uses the principle of Darwinian natural selection in order to create computer programs to solve a problem. Koza introduced GP (1992) as a branch of genetic algorithm. GP covers a high level of diversity by breeding random different computer program as the population. The programs are structured like trees containing functions and terminals. A function set and a terminal set should be defined as the sources of functions and terminals. If they are rich enough, tree structures are able to reach any complexity. The function set, for example, can be built of arithmetic operation (+, −, ×, or ÷), Boolean logic functions (AND, OR, NOT, etc), mathematical functions (sin, cos, log), conditional functions (IF, THEN, ELSE), or any other functions. The terminal set can be included of variables, numerical constants, functions with no argument, etc. Random functions and terminals form a treelike structure program. Branches that contain functions and terminals are connected to the root point. A typical example of GP tree is shown in (FIG) Defining terminal and function sets actually determine the search space. GP starts a blind search for solution by creating random initial population within the search area. GP measure the fitness of each individual and the ones with better fitness are chosen for building the next generation by mutation, cross over or direct reproduction [1]. During the reproduction, some of the population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gender Inequalities Of Workforce And Gender Inequality Arianna Khoubeserian Mr. Parker Sociology 101 February 1 2017 Gender Inequalities in Workforce Over the years it has become evident that women face far more significant barriers in the workforce than men do. A clear representation of this barrier is established by the gender pay gap, which is the difference in monetary amount received between a woman s and a man s average weekly earnings. The economy, as a social institution, is affected by gender and sex inequality. The idea of inequality in the workplace is central to explaining wage disparities and is a crucial factor that intervenes between a person s human capital. Despite a woman s depth of knowledge and commendable work ethic, there still remains significant obstacles to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conflict theory declares that social problems occur when dominant groups, which are the men in the workforce, mistreat subordinate ones such as the women, and thus advocates for a power imbalance between genders . Marx viewed the society in two parts, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. In this social phenomenon, the men represent the people who control all the power and the women represent the people who are being controlled. Men and women are constantly in the battle to obtain the most factors of production, yet men seem to have an unfair advantage due to their gender. For example during job interviews, some questions may revolve around what gender the applicant is. Women are more likely asked about their duties outside of home or if they are expecting to have children. Singeling women out by suggesting they would need times to miss work especially due to maternity leave, portrays women as not being the best fit for the job. They begin to feel vulnerable and not capable of handling the job. Some conflict theorists believe that the reason these roles continue is because the dominant group naturally works to maintain their power and status though the less powerful group and this becomes habitualized in society. Also conflict and inequality are developed by the unequal distribution of social capital. This imbalance of resources creates conflict within men and women because women will strive to achieve more as men try to bring them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made his way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The fruit of his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands . Synge had many purposes for this book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically geared account of the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true Irishness. However, Synge s anthropological work could not avoid the strong Romantic tendencies that influenced his writing. In my opinion it is Synge s Romanticism that makes his account more believable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Part One of the book he begins by relating the image of the Aranmor countryside as he walks through it for the first time. He states: I was wandering out along the one good roadway of the island, looking over low walls on either side into small flat fields of naked rock. I have seen nothing so desolate. Grey floods of water were sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road... Whenever the cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked ridge of the island above me on the other side... (Synge 2) The most vivid aspect of this passage is the diction, which Synge uses to describe the island s environment. More than once Synge uses the word naked to refer to the rock. He also builds further that image by calling the land desolate and wild . Synge also makes an important play of the colors of the Aran Islands. He uses the images of grey and black quite often throughout the book. At one point he states that everywhere he turns he finds, ...the same grey obsession twining and wreathing itself among the narrow fields... (Synge 46). By describing the island thus he helps the reader build the image of the Aran Islands as something quite distinct from the lushness of the Irish mainland. The contrast between the environment of the islands and the mainland is important for Synge to establish, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Practices Of Earnings Management From my point of view, I believe that the different practices of earnings management are misleading to the stakeholders, and it aims at increasing or decreasing the reported earnings based on the executive decisions and what would serve their position in the market. This drives us to ask who the users of the company s financial statements are. Those are the parties that rely on financial statements for decision making. And they are summarized in the following groups: Employees, Customers, Supplies, Creditors, Shareholders, Financial analysts, Stock underwriters and Regulators. While on the other hand, I believe that when carrying out a business decision it should be taken into considerations all its ethical aspects in addition to its profitability and legibility aspects. Thus, in my opinion earnings management does not meet the ethical requirements of an executive job. To ensure that the executives or managers performance and decisions are in line with professional ethics, we must see whether their decision implementations would have negative effect on others. And in this case it is clearly affecting financial statement users. How earnings management might affect the firm itself? Earnings management is not effective on the short term as it will not increase the firm s profits, they may even worsen the enterprises operating difficulties if the executive decisions were not efficient or if they were not accurate in their expectations and anticipation of the future earnings. The earnings management opportunities might affect the firm future performance because the executive would be willing to sacrifice future cash flows for current period income. • 13. Rhetorical Analysis Of Cesar Chavez About 85% of churches are not fully active with their community. Statics have higher throughout the years, about 40 years ago Mexicans were being treated unfairly due to poor working conditions. This unbarring situation leads to a fellow leader, Chavez to step up and build a firm foundation to led us Mexican Americans to success. Chavez had many helpers from different communities, but his own. The Mexican American organization was let down by their own church. This escalated to such an overwhelming experience. In Chavez speech, The Mexican Americans and the Church insinuates the catastrophe of the church s involvement. Chavez explains his purpose thoroughly to the audience, uses pathos and has an effective tone to allow him to build his organization. Therefore, Cesar Chavez wanted the church to support his organization, therefore his intended audience for his speech was his local church and the Mexican American Community. Cesar went through a spiritual fasting, in which he did not eat due to the hazardous chemicals in field fruit. Chavez was a Catholic and used his morals for a nonviolent protest to better working conditions for field workers. He was the leader of the Mexican American Community in Delano, Ca. He indicates how powerful a church s involvement can be: It is powerful moral and spiritual force cannot be ignored by any movement (Chavez). He believes if the church got more involved they would grow as an organization and would strive to be seen and heard. Chavez had strong hopes to fulfil his dream of making a change. The church s involvement would heavy impact his journey He wants to persuade, change their options and have a wider spectrum. In addition, Chavez wants the church to hear his opinion. He stated this matter at the Second Annual Conference in Sacramento, Ca. After his speech he gained over 6,000 people to join his fast. He could have not accomplished that without the help of an organization called California Migrant Ministry. This organization is a protestant group who helped Chavez succeed. Because their relationship grew, the ministry was right by Cesar s side during the strikes. He later on explains how supportive the ministry was, When 30 of the strikers were arrested for ... • 14. The Two Types Of Symptoms Of Parkinson s Disease The Two Types of Symptoms of Parkinson s Disease Parkinson s disease (PD), a degenerative nervous system disorder, is more common every day, yet it is still a mystery on what causes it. More than a million Americans have been diagnosed with PD and every year there are 60,000 new cases. Affecting older people, it is the second most common disorder and the condition is expected to increase as the aging population increases. PD essentially is the loss of dopamine producing neurons. The increase in research has led to a wide range of possibilities to the causes involving both genetic and environmental factors. There are two different types of symptoms: motor and non motor. The diagnosis of Parkinson s disease can be challenging as the symptoms that are exhibited can also be symptoms of another neurodegenerative disorder (Gazewood 2013). There are no biological markers (tests or screenings) available for PD but researchers are working to develop an accurate one (PDF 2016). The cause of Parkinson s disease is unknown but it is thought to be linked to combined effects of genetic factors and environmental factors. There is a greater risk of having Parkinson s disease if someone in the family has been diagnosed with it. The genes linked to PD are SNCA, LRRK2, PARK2, and PINK1 (Lill et al. 2012). PD is also more common in non Hispanic whites and in males (Van Den Eeden 2003). The environmental factors are pesticide exposure, occupational exposure, cigarette smoking or dietary factors ... • 16. A Comparison Between King Lear and Oedipus King Lear Comparison A tragedy is not only an imitation of life in general but an imitation of an action, as Aristotle defined his ideas in the Poetics, which presents Oedipus as an ultimate tragic hero. There is a obvious link between the two characters in that blindness both literal and metaphorical is a strong theme in the stories. Issues of self recognition and self knowledge are significant for Oedipus as well as King Lear. For Aristotle, Reversal, Recognition and Suffering are key elements in a complex tragedy. The human instinct to seek knowledge of and to know an individual s character is essential to understand their actions (Aristotle, 1 49). King Lear and King Oedipus find that self recognition and self knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thebes high esteem for Oedipus is shown through the Chorus until the bitter end of the play. In the beginning of the play King Oedipus is a person of vast self assurance. This character attribute is demonstrated in his willingness to take the full responsibility for dealing with the crisis, the plague. King Oedipus feels certain that he will also manage this crisis as he has done before with the riddle of the sphinx. He feels so self assure that he even thinks he is able to trick the oracle and the gods by simply fleeing Corinth. But this is a big miscalculation as the play shows. The outline in the story of Oedipus s self discovery begins when he starts to solve the second riddle, the riddle of Laius death. During this solving Oedipus character changes from an honour man to a fearful, condemned man by his tragic fate in the end. The changing of the character is accompanied by the changing of the riddle: the question Who is the murderer of Laius? changes to Who am I? Aristotle in his Poetics discusses this reversal when he speaks of a change of the action into the opposite (Aristotle, 18). As the tragedy moves on, finding the truth for Oedipus becomes an obsession. The dispute between Teiresias and Oedipus demonstrates that Oedipus does not even take the possibility of involvement in something bad into consideration. Teiresias, after he has been provoked, ... • 17. NASH Case Study Hepatocyte lipotoxicity and liver inflammation Beside hepatocyte injury and death, inflammation is another histological hallmark of NASH. The inflammation during NASH is described as sterile inflammation as the inflammatory response occurs in the absence of pathogens or external antigens.44 This sterile inflammation may be a consequence of lipid induced hepatocyte stress, damage, and cell death. Indeed, cell death can trigger an inflammatory response by innate immune cells.6 On the other hand, a sustained inflammatory response may contribute to hepatocellular injury and death, creating a feed forward loop between tissue injury and inflammation. PRRs comprise a variety of receptors expressed both on the cell surface and intracellularly. In NAFLD, the family of TLRs is the best characterized PRRs. Cell surface TLR4 is expressed by Kupffer cells, hepatocytes, liver sinusoidal endothelial cells and hepatic stellate cells, and can be activated by multiple ligands including polysaccharide (LPS), HMGB1, heat shock proteins and free fatty acids. In vitro, treatment of macrophages with free fatty acids activates TLR4 signaling and macrophage proinflammatory polarization.46 In isolated hepatocytes, free fatty acids stimulate secretion of HMGB1, which in turn activates hepatocyte TLR4 signaling in an autocrine manner, leading to hepatocyte NF κB activation and cytokine expression.47 In vivo, specific TLR4 deletion in hepatocytes prevented obesity induced insulin resistance and systemic inflammation during high fat diet feeding.48 In another study, while whole body deletion of TLR4 attenuated the development of NASH in an MCD diet mouse model.49 Taken together, these studies suggest that inhibition of TLR4 activation appears to be a promising therapeutic strategy for NASH. • 18. Criticism Of Cultural Criticism Everything that points to cultural studies or criticism portrays it as a complex theory which derives its strength from an uncanny sense of incertitude, as it covers a wide expanse of the areas of literary criticism. To begin with, a basic understanding is quite appropriate. It is this kind of complexity in question that caused Angela McRobbie to talk of the messiness of cultural studies (722). By this is meant, most probably, that its roots are too deeply convoluted and intertwined in a single woof with other theories. Beginning on the level of definition, Bennet writes that, Cultural Studies has been defined as an interdisciplinary endeavour concerned with the analysis of cultural forms and activities in the context of the relations of power which condition their production, circulation, deployment and, of course, effects (60). Cultural criticism, in essence, has more to do with literature and its subtle projections of society. Also, the complexity and flexibility of this framework accords the opportunity to glide from one theory of relevance to another without exactly straying away totally, since cultural criticism has established relationships with a myriad of other theoretical frameworks. It is for this reason that Jarvis purports: In addition to appearing in a variety of subject areas, cultural studies is also associated with a wide range of critical theories that includes Marxism and feminism, postcolonialism and psychoanalysis, structuralism and ... • 19. Analyzing Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, And Nite Owl Comic books have picked up popularity as a method for scholars to gain insight as to how society confronts problems. The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently. To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the Human imagination takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea (McCloud 66). In his chapter blood in the gutter McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect reader s sensibility. However, violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too risqué also happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character s sexuality will also take place in the gutter. Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero s masculinity takes place there. The first character I want to discuss is Dr. Manhattan and how his sexuality and use of violence play into his performance of masculinity. Dr. Manhattan cannot understand the human conceptions of sexuality or the true repercussions of violence; therefore, he uses the ideology of society to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To the health care company, The Cost of Quality may look and feel slightly different, yet in many ways both are the same. Both companies may operate and produce different products, and operate in two different market segments, both are concerned with delivering customer driven quality products or services in the most cost effective manner. Therefore, if we use a comparative analysis and the Six Sigma standard problem solving methodologies and apply it to the Costs of Quality , Six Sigma Project Selection and the role of The Green Belt we know that each looks to eliminate the root cause of defects and poor customer satisfaction scores. We will discuss these similarities and the differences in manufacturing and in health care and the importance of determining who the Voice of the Customer (VOC) is, to responding quickly to any sudden market change or in customer driven demand changes and for each current customer, lost customer, or any future customers. I remember being a student in a NSCS 200 class, answering the attendance question of whether plants are conscious beings. They aim to fulfill a goal, they sense things, and with those stimuli, they make actions. So theoretically, they are conscious. But do they have consciousness? Are they aware what they are doing and why they are doing it? Do they feel things within themselves? And if the answers are no, what is then the difference between humans and between plants? Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness, anything that we are at a given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most familiar and most mysterious aspects of our lives. Searching for the word consciousness in the dictionary, a definition of the state or quality of awareness, or, of being aware of an external object or something within oneself could be found. It can also be described as sentience, awareness, subjectivity, the ability to think or feel, and the executive control of the mind. Many theories of where consciousness comes from have arisen, but there seems to be an underlying theme of what consciousness is, in the broader sense, to most theories. For instance, most theories agree that all sensory organs and their perceptions must combine within the brain to give us consciousness, and not separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martin Heidigger s concept of Man, a being in the world, is very different from the Modern view of man as a thinking being. One believes that understanding comes from a purely subject object perspective wherein the understanding of the world around us is performed by our internal, completely separate, I because it is perfect and known innately while the other believes that to be a being is to actively Be , which is the same as Heidigger s notion of Being, and to Be is to exist or to be engaged in the world therefore connecting being, Being and the world forming the concept of Dasein or a being in the world. Norman, The Conqueror And The Norman Army Norman success in late 11th century England The tactics used by William the Conqueror and the Norman army, militarily, administratively, and culturally, impacted their success in imposing their power within the English kingdom. The military force used by the Normans was useful in gaining and later maintaining territories for the crown, the administration allowed William the Conqueror s reign to act in a more effective manner under him in the early days of his rule, and the cultural and religious structures allowed the Normans to integrate the already closely tied Norman and English societies. • 37. The Effect Of Temperature On Cellular Respiration All living things require energy to function. Two main strategies pursued by organisms include the oxygen requiring cellular respiration, which relies on glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation to produce 36 38 ATP per glucose molecule consumed, and oxygen free fermentation, which relies on glycolysis and the generation of an organic molecule and CO2 to generate 2 ATP per glucose molecule. These metabolic processes are nuanced and can behave differently when subjected to varying environmental constraints and reaction conditions. Here, the effects of temperature and carbohydrate source and yeast s fermentative ability is examined. Furthermore, the effect of varying succinate concentration on cellular respiration is also examined in lima bean mitochondrial extracts. For fermentation, the results show that increased temperature increases fermentation rate, while glucose and sucrose are far more optimal for fermentation relative to saturated starch solutions. • 38. How Water Transportation Would Be Further Revolutionized... Water transportation would be further revolutionized by the construction of canals. In 1825, New York opened the Erie Canal, which connected the five Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Northern states like Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio also invested large amounts of money to build a network of canals connecting the Mississippi to the Great Lakes. As a result s, water transportation was much faster and cheaper. By 1827, wheat from central New York State could be bought for less money in Savannah, Georgia, than wheat grown in Georgia. This apparently had a great influence upon New York, stimulating the growth of economy. Such advantages for the North hurt the economies of Southern states such as Georgia, as its prices were no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The South, like other slave based societies, did not construct urban centers for commerce, finance, and industry on a scale rival with those found in the North. Southern cities, instead, were small as they failed to develop diversified economies and rarely engaged in international trade. On the contrary, southern cities primarily engaged in local trade. They marketed and transported cotton or other agricultural crops, supplied local planters and farmers with such necessities as agricultural tools, and produced manufactured goods, such as cotton gins, sold mostly to farmers. Southerners neglect industry and transportation improvements, like the railroads and canals of New York and Pennsylvania, due to the over reliance on slave based system. As a result, manufacturing and transportation lagged far behind in comparison to the North . Despite falling further and further behind in respect to economic growth, the south still managed to establish an aggressive sense of nationalism that was entrenched in its belief of its distinguished character and its illusion about oppressing by enemies (i.e. the North and blacks). The South began to consider itself more and more as the true guardian of America s heritage. Southern tourists who ventured into the North viewed it as a alien and remote land and ... Bin Laden, throughout his piece, frequently used Ibn Taymiyya quotes to add a religious legitimacy to his claim, what s problematic is that Ibn Taymiyyah was a controversial Sufi that was imprisoned several times, one of which was for being accused of anthropomorphism (ascribing human characteristics to God) and for having criticized, contemptuously, the legitimacy of dogmatic theology (Laoust). Ibn Taymiyya clearly stands in opposition to al Qaeda s Salafists jihadists doctrine, which empathizes the principle of the absoluteness of God and his image. One of Ibn Taymiyya s quotes Bin Laden used was if the danger to religion from not fighting is greater than that of fighting, then it is a duty to fight even if the intentions of some of the fighters are not pure (Zaman 443), this quote goes against Prophet Muhammad s teachings and emphasis on good intention, he once said actions are according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended , in this case, if some of the fighters would participate in fighting the USA for the sake of killing soldiers (bad intention), then they are simply considered murders, and such actions should obviously not be encouraged in the name of religion, which invalidates Ibn Taymiyya s ... • 42. A Thrilling and Unusual Love Story by Robert Browning,... Porphyria s Lover is a thrilling, and rather unusual love story by Robert Browning, given from a deranged man s perspective. It is the tale of a man who is so infatuated with Porphyria that he decides to keep her for himself, as if she was a doll or some type of prize. What makes this poem so interesting is that the only twisted way he feels he can keep her, is by killing her. The poem uniquely depicts the separation of social classes, feminism, describes how a man overcomes a rather biased society, and also uses symbolism to represent the Industrial Revolution which was taking place at the time. In many of his poems, Browning questions the rights and almost seems to mock the ideas of what women had to be portray in the Victorian era, this is especially present in his poem Porphyria s Lover . Browning also mentions in the poem what women were meant to be like at the time, yet he also talks about how some tried to escape from the harsh lifestyle they lived just like Porphyria. During the Victorian era, the separation of social classes was a major issue for the society. Different social classes can be (and were by the classes themselves) distinguished by inequalities in such areas as power, authority, wealth, working and living conditions, life styles, life span, education, religion, and culture (victorianweb.org). This idea can be captured in Porphyria s Lover in various aspects. First, Porphyria could be a symbol for the upper class and the speaker a representation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Symptoms And Treatment Of Pancreatic Cancer Introduction: Intraductal papillary mucinous duct neoplasms of the pancreas (IPMN p) are one of the subtypes of cystic neoplasms of the pancreas. They are neoplasms that arise in the pancreatic ducts and can be visualized as they are usually greater than 0.5 inch in length. They are comprised of tall mucin producing columnar cells, that have the capability of transforming into pancreatic cancer if left untreated. Their ability to develop into pancreatic cancer is one of the main reasons behind their significance. IPMNs commonly exhibit cell atypia, papillary propagation, and cyst production. Their main feature is the ability to produce copious amounts of fluid. In general pancreatic cysts are not an uncommon finding on abdominal computerized tomography (CT) scans. A study done at University College Dublin in 2008, in which, 2,832 abdominal CT scans were evaluated for presence of pancreatic cysts, showed that 2.6% of people have pancreatic cysts. These patients had no history of pancreatic disease, and had no pancreatic symptoms at the time of the scan i.e the abdominal scan was done for other reasons. Pancreatic cysts increased with age, with zero cysts found in patients below 40 and up to 8.7% of scans of those above 80 years of age had cysts present. (12) IPMNs of the pancreas can occur in either the main pancreatic duct or in one of its branches. The smaller the branch size in which the neoplasm arose, the higher the likelihood of a less aggressive neoplasm. Tumors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Capital Punishment And Capital Involvement Capital punishment is an individual punishment to death for committing a crime. The history of capital punishment fluctuates worldwide, between different governments and beliefs. The current issue of capital punishment is taking lives without having a reliable reason to take them to the death penalty. One large and main issue is that capital punishment breaches, or breaks two essential human rights, which are the rights to life, and rights to living free of torture. This is a huge issue because an individual should not be able to surpass any conditions when the operations of the executions go against human rights. Another opposition of capital punishment is that many countries are sided with the penalties, however, the citizens of the country may think differently dependant on their religions and beliefs. The opposition between the government and the population in the country is another large issue because the diverse opinion only makes matters worse. Though many countries remain to argue that the punishments are beneficial, terminating the legal penalty would save thousands of lives. Discontinuing the penalties would benefit the whole world by cutting the large amount of taxes just for individual deaths, and the new adjustment would save lives from false reasons, and misunderstandings. According to Mr Moeller, we can classify IT system threats as four main classes. Interruptions: interruption refers to the situation where an IT component, typically a hardware or a software, gets corrupted or is completely lost. The main issue behind this kind of thread consists of the disruption of service provided by that IT component. An example could be someone performing a denial of service on an IT system by overwhelming network connections. Interceptions: this class encompasses all threat related with the stealing of, gaining unauthorized access to, data or service. For instance, it could be a program or a user trying to illegally access another system or data. One example that particularly applies to this scenario includes eavesdropping communication between system to retrieve or capture data. Modification: I believe this one could the most dangerous class as any threat that fall into this categories not only affects/tampers a system but also removes tractability. In other words, this kind of threat tends to alter system environment without leaving. Thinking of hacking tool such as metasploit, that is exactly the definition/description of some payload such as reverse shell.
