White House Construction
In order for Alexander Hamilton to get his assumption bill passed, he, James Madison, and
Thomas Jefferson made a deal known as the Compromise of 1790 which gave Hamilton the votes
he needed to pass his bill and Jefferson and Madison obtained the nation s capitol for the South and
this is where the White Housewould later be built. Before construction of the White House,
though, the President lived in the President s House in Philadelphia which was built in 1767 and
served originally as home to the Penn family, who founded Pennsylvania, and it was probably the
largest home in all of Philadelphia. This is where Washington spent his presidency and also where
Adams spent the first 18 months of his presidency before moving to the White House. The
architect who designed the White House was Pierre Charles L Enfant in 1791 while designing the
District of Columbia. He envisioned a large mansion for the President which was five times larger
than the building that was actually built.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It now has 167 rooms (including the 35 bathrooms) and has been expanded to include East and
West Wing as well as two more stories added to the main building plus a basement and
subbasement. In the original building, only two of the rooms were oval in shape. The White House
has faced many changes over the years, one of the most important renovations being the Truman
Restoration that occurred from 1948 to 1952. Truman added a balcony branching off the second
story of the South Portico and, shortly after this, the main building was found by architects to be
structurally unsound, leaving the old interior to be dismantled and rebuilt with concrete and steel
instead of wood. Some small modifications were made as well during this time, such as adding
bathrooms to each bedroom and repositioning the main staircase to the Entrance Hall instead of the

Persuasive Essay On Gay Rights
Everyday people have to walk around being criticized because of the type of person they are and
they are talked down to, violated, abused and sometimes even killed. No one should ever have to

bathroom due to their gender identity. In the article Sorto speaks of Emily Waggoner, who is a
transgender herself that has created a map on Google for those of the trans community to find a
safe and content place to use the restroom. Although this map is helping many in the community it
is exceedingly despairing that one must use a map to find a safe area to use the bathroom, which
only takes minutes but they must struggle because of the New House Bill. Additionally, many can
agree that the bathroom law is ridiculous and it simply isn t fixing anything, it only ridicules and
derides trans people and someone who can agree with this is Samantha Bee. In the article

Samantha Bee and her thoughts on the bathroom law and I would hope many people agree with
her opinion. She states Thanks to you, North Carolina citizens can now expect lots of privacy

Essay Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive illness affects about 1.2 percent of the U.S.
population (8). It is defined by fluctuating states of depression and mania throughout ones life.
Those who are depressed may be restless, irritable, have slowed thinking or speech, decreased
sexual activity, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, suicidal thoughts as well as other changes.
Those in a manic state may have increased activity or energy, more thoughts and faster thinking,
grandiose thoughts, decreased sleep and need for sleep, increased sexual activity, elated mood,
irritable mood, as well as other symptoms. Mixed state is when both depression and mania are
exhibited at the same time in a cycle. Rapid cycling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The onset of bipolar disorder is usually in late adolescence or early adulthood (7). It is possible for
both children and adolescents to develop the disease as well. This usually happens when there is a
family history for the disease. Children afflicted by bipolar disorder are usually more irritable and
destructive during their manic states and are more prone to mixed states (9). It is even harder to
diagnose bipolar disorder in children because it is often confused with other problems that occur at
a younger age such as attention deficit disorder, conduct disorder, major depression, or
schizophrenia (9).
Where and how bipolar disorder is caused is still a bit of a mystery. Some information is known
but nothing concrete, and a lot of dead ends. Genetic predisposition is one possible cause for
bipolar disorder. The disease usually can be seen throughout a family tree of an affected
individual. Twin studies have been conducted to see if there is a higher chance of identical
twins, who have the same genetic make up, both getting the disease. These have shown that
there is an increased likely hood of one twin to have bipolar disorder if the other has it, but it is
not a certainty. The gene for bipolarity has mainly been traced to chromosome 18 as well as some
others. It is uncertain which is responsible because it has been found in some cases that
chromosome 18 is unaffected in bipolar patients. It is most likely that bipolar disorder is linked

Hypocrisy In Pride And Prejudice Comparative Essay
Although Austen lived before Wilde was born, the two authors shared very common themes in their
work. The theme of deceit, hypocrisy, and lies are present in both of their novels. These authors use
characterization. Austen and Wilde used hypocrisy to show the shallowness of the upper class and
their belief that no one should be better than them. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austenuses
hypocrisy through her female characters, such as Mrs. Bennet, Lady Catherine and Elizabeth
Bennet. Mrs. Bennet is seen being hypocritical when referring to Mrs. Long, saying she is a
selfish, hypocritical woman (Austen, 4) and continues on to say that [she has] no opinion of her

Case Analysis Tale of Two Airlines in the Network Age

This case analyses Prof. McPherson s service experience with respect to two Airline carriers, which
was not expected in this age of Network and Information Technology and also the service level
expectations from the customers. First we analyze the setting/situation, issues Prof. McPherson

situations would improve efficiency, customer loyalty, brand name and increased profits

Flight to London left 7 minutes before departure time:
Given the time and weather, the airline crew would have been under lot of stress and might be
very eager to move on to their next task and also we need to consider operational expenses of a
foreign airline. There are multiple issues here: 1. No communication between the two airlines
regarding the flight delays and the connecting passengers (already discussed above). 2. The
London based Airline could have verified their passenger list and should have identified Prof.
McPherson as a Gold card member and a loyal customer and should have taken any one of these
actions based on the situation: * Should have waited until the departure time. * Should have an
agent at the gate until departure time and should have helped Prof. McPherson with alternative
arrangements, if he was late.

and should have been able to identify their patrons.

Refugees From The United States
Refugees in the United States go through the struggles of not being able to communicate in an
effective way because of the language barrier. This barrier makes it harder on them to be able to
get a job, attend school and success academically. This also gives them the feeling of being the
others, as well as a loss of their dignity and culture. Although, refugees go through steps to be able
to find a place, where they can call home, but their struggles is what holding them from having a
good life and an easy life. Consequently, refugees have valuable characteristics, such as: education,
language, job, religion, health and owing a home. As a foreigner, their struggle is exasperated since
many of their valuable characteristics are now liabilities in a different land compounded with new
and daunting cultural differences. Refugees have a multitude of steps to take in the resettlement
process. The following steps, explained by US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. After

Characterism In Our Twisted Hero By Yi Munyol
As autumn approaches, and leaves cascade to the ground as if they re Joffrey ballerinas, trees
become a significant symbol of this season and life with their oxygen that fills our lungs.
Nevertheless, the entanglement of their arms and height encourage an idea of fright and
intimidation, making trees one of the many twisted structures that allows people to function and
prosper in existence.
Merriam Webster defines the crooked word of twisted as mentally or emotionally unsound or
disturbed, giving synonyms like sick and cruel minded. Merriam Webster also explains the idea
of a hero as a person admired for achievements and noble qualities, and/or one who shows great
courage. While agreeing with these denotations, twisted can have several different interpretations
based on a person s perspective. Factors that may change a person s views on who or what is
twisted are often his or her ideology, culture, religion, social outlook, and other orientations. As
witnessed in Our Twisted Heroby Yi Munyol, there are several characters who could fit the
twisted or hero role. For example, some could see Han as apt for the hero by putting the thought
of combatting Om initially in the minds of his peers, or the new teacher could be viewed as the
hero with his fight to demolish Om s destructive power in the classroom. While these points are
valid, Han and the new teacher do not seem unbalanced in much or any form; they each had
purposes and reasoning for what they felt they had to do to

The Role Of Beringia In The Arctic Geography
Climatic fluctuations led to major changes in the Arctic geography, effectively increasing the
diversification of high latitude organisms, including the lagomorphs that lived in those latitudes, in
the Pleistocene. The organisms expanded into the new available habitats while the glaciers receded.
One of these refugiums, Beringia, in Arctic North America during the glacial maxima, has been
subjected to extensive research while many other refugiums have been hypothesized such as a High
Canadian Arctic refugiums (Waltari et al. 2005). Furthermore, during the last glacial maximum
some coastlines in the High Canadian Arctic were ice free (Waltari et al. 2005). Eurasia was less

Slavery In Huck Finn
Censorship and history: inherently incompatible
It was fifteen minutes before I could work myself up to go and humble myself to a nigger; but I
done it, and I warn t ever sorry for it afterwards, neither (Twain 91). Slavery has been one of the
most influential and shameful institutions in the history of America. From the proliferation of
chattel slavery to its eventual downfall, the peculiar institution of slavery has been a crucial driving
force in the history of the United States. Despite substantial improvement in race relations in
America, there is still tremendous racial tension in American society. The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, an antebellum era novel by Mark Twain, has faced rigid criticism for its use of

By exposing Southern hypocrisy and the absurdity of slavery, Twain s novel was pivotal in
affecting Americans perception of black freedmen after the Gilded Age. For example, when Huck
befriends Jim and realizes that they have more in common than that which divides them, Huck
exclaims I knowed he was white inside (Twain 301). Twain s unique satire hides ravaging social
commentary behind his realistic anecdotes, helping further the cause of humanizing beat down
slaves, or niggers. Huck Finn is an iconic novel that must be taught to students in order to ensure
our future students do not forget the enduring struggle of the African American community against
prejudice and discrimination nor the damaging attitudes of intolerant Americans during the
antebellum era. Huck Finn is a well crafted, pragmatic narrative on the horrific consequences of
slavery which provides students a bridge to understanding the far reaching consequences of racism.
As articulated by David Bradley on CBS s 60 Minutes segment on Huck Finn, teaching the full,

Capital Punishment on Trial Essay
Capital Punishment on Trial
Capital Punishment is an issue that has been argued over from the dinner table in
the average American home the the oval office in the White House for countless amounts
of years. The opposing sides each state their claim on why we should, or shouldn t allow
the death penalty to be administered to those criminals who the courts believe should be
killed. Each argument has very valid reasons on why the death penalty is right and wrong,
and they both have convincing points to prove their argument. The social problems within
capital punishment vary from it being morally right or wrong, humane or inhumane, to the
excessive time and money that is spent during appeals and stays of execution. This ... Show more

As if the
loss of a loved one is not enough for a family to deal with, Bundy remained on death row
for nearly ten years. Three stays of execution and endless appeals kept Bundy alive for
almost a decade, when his victims lives were untimely and viciously taken from them
(Lamar 34). Many in fovor of the death penalty feel that if a sentence of death is handed
down, then it should be enforced immediately, not as a question of morality, but simply as
an act of justice.
The death penalty already exists in thirty six states, and given its existence it should
be enforced. The problem that arises within the criminal justice system as it is currently
written in the law books is where part of this social problem arises. Since the United
States Supreme Court reinstated the death Penalty in 1976, thirty six states have legislated
capital punishment statutes (Capital Punishment 1992). All but thirteen states and the
District of Columbia have the death penalty as a sentencing option, including Alaska,
Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota,
Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin (Norman 1). Since capital
punishment is already in existence, the problem is that it is not enforced. This lack of
enforcement translated into inefficient functioning of the criminal justice system, which
begins to be looked at as a social problem. If the criminal

The case against Judicial Review Essay
The Case Against Judicial Review
In order to make a case against judicial review it is first important to understand the origins. Born
in 1803 out of the landmark United States Supreme Court decision of Marbury V. Madison, judicial
review gives the court the power to invalidate any law repugnant (or in conflict with) to the
constitution. Judicial review has for the courts, become a self made license to strike down
legitimately made legislation by democratically elected representatives. It has been a tool to restrain
laws that are in the bill stage by the threat that if the bill materializes into law then at its first
challenge the court will strike it down.
In a democratically elected society it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is exemplified by an individual who has brought a case through the court or legal system. Now
that its at the U.S. Supreme Court the person seeks to have the words under God removed from
the pledge of allegiance (the success of this case is unlikely because of how the court has a
conservative right wing majority). Another example of a group with their own agenda undermining
democracy is the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). The ACLU is seeking to repeal the
Bush administration s highly touted Patriot Act. This is an example of a group that is making it
their mission to skirt the proper channels of American democracy and use the judiciary to get
sweeping policy change with or without the consent of the governed people.
Judicial review has become the tool of choice for all the public interest law firms. It is through
judicial review they are able to get (properly enacted) laws struck down or thrown out. Judicial
review goes from being a tool with the intent of protecting the constitution to manipulating the
legitimately enacted laws.
In conclusion of the second argument against judicial review, it is inappropriate for individuals
and groups to have the ability to make frivolous attacks on laws that are democratically enacted.
Furthermore, it is inappropriate to clog the judiciary with requests such as removing under God
from the pledge of allegiance when they should speak to their congressman or senator over the

Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment Severe Sepsis affects 750,000 Americans and causes more
than 200,000 deaths annually. Sepsis is a complex condition that results from an infectious process
that represents the body s response to infection and involves systemic inflammatory and cellular
events that result in altered circulation and coagulation, endothelial dysfunction and impaired tissue
perfusion (Kleinpell, 2005). Associated mortality rates with sepsis in the United States have

Treatment of Sepsis
As stated in Rivers, Nguyed, Havstad, Ressler, Muzzin, Knolich et al. (2001):
Early hemodynamic assessment on the basis of physical findings, vital signs, central venous
pressure, and urinary output fails to detect persistent global tissue hypoxia. A more definitive
resuscitation strategy involves goal oriented manipulation of cardiac preload, afterload, and
contractility to achieve a balance between systemic oxygen delivery and oxygen demand. End
points used to confirm the achievement of such a balance (hereafter called resuscitation end points)
include normalized values for mixed venous oxygen saturation, arterial lactate concentration, base
deficit, and pH. Mixed venous oxygen saturation has been shown to be a surrogate for the cardiac
index as a target for hemodynamic therapy. In cases in which the insertion of a pulmonary artery
catheter is impractical, venous oxygen saturation can be measured in the central circulation (p.
1368).
The focus for the general care nurse outside of the ICU is to be able to recognize sepsis and to
initiate appropriate interventions in an appropriate amount of time. Nurses need to facilitate the
transfer of the patient to an ICU as urgently as possible. Once sepsis is suspected, it is important to
closely monitor patients for signs and symptoms of progression with increasing frequency of
assessments. While awaiting transfer of a patient to the ICU

Commercial and financial issues are starting to replace traditional diplomatic and security questions

Summary Of Emily Grierson And DoпїЅa Ernestina
There are two different stories and two different characters facing the loss of a loved one. Emily
Grierson and DoГ±a Ernestina go through a difficult time and recover from their grief just before
both their lives end. The two stories, A Rose for Emily and Nada , talk about their protagonist
going through the loss of a loved one. Emily Grierson and DoГ±a Ernestina are more similar than
different because they lose someone whom they loveand are affected greatly, which leads them to
depression and loneliness, and they mourn in a different way than usual.
Emily Grierson loses two loved ones, her father and the man she loved, Homer Barron. DoГ±a
Ernestina loses her husband and her son. The two characters live a lonely and isolated life. In A
Rose for Emily , Emily s father separates her from society and makes sure she has no lovers.
When he dies, she has to accept the reality that she has no one and has to find her role in society
instead of being an outcast. The story does not mention any siblings or her mother, giving off
the appearance that she is isolated and disconnected. Emily lives in a big house alone. Emily
refuses to acknowledge that her father dies, so the town has to pester Emily for her father s
burial. She finally breaks down and buries her father. Emily stays in the house for several
months, aging as time comes along. She meets Homer Barron and falls in love with him but finds
out he has no interest in her. The townspeople pity her, saying Poor Emily. Her kinsfolk should
come to her (Faulkner 180) because they know she seeks a lover. When she meets Homer Barron,
she kills him. After Emily s death the townspeople think that she has been sleeping next to
Homer s dead body. Emily does this because she does not want to sleep alone because it means
she is alone. In Nada, DoГ±a Ernestina is also left in isolation with no remaining family; not
only having to deal with her husband s death, but later she has to deal with her son s death
leading her to more depression. Now, she feels she has nada , meaning nothing. She dresses in full
mourning attire but does not break down or cry. She thinks she has no one; however, she does have
the ladies in her apartment who want to comfort her. The people in her

Norm Violation Essay
I believe what Garfinkel means in background assumptions is how we commonly go throughout
the day and the order we do things in. In my norm violation I am going to not follow the order
my culture eats dinner in. The norm violation I decided to do is ordering dessert first at a
restaurant. This is a norm violation because you are suppose to order your appetizer first, then
your entree and lastly your dessert. I decided that Fender s Diner would be an excellent place to
do my experiment. I dine here a good bit and usually order their salads so this will be different

theme. On a Sunday after church lets out is when I decided to do to do my ethnomethodology
experiment. I also brought my sister who is known for her sweet tooth. As we sit down at our
table our slightly overweight waiter immediately greets us. We order chocolate milkshakes and
our waiter smiles and says, Wait! No lemon water this time? This is the first reaction we
received. It made me feel a little nervous because if he is already reacting to our drinks, how is
he going to react to the rest of the dinner. After we receive our milkshakes we ordered our ice
cream brownie delux. Our waiter laughs and asks if that would be all. I explain to him that we
would still like an entree but that we want our dessert first. We then order a burger and some fries.
He then warns us that we may start looking like him if we keep this up this diet. This made me

Architecture, Belief Systems, And Societal Structure
Culture is a very important aspect of human life; it defines the way people live, grow, and evolve.
Anthropologists study cultures throughout the world and throughout different time periods. They
study the different aspects of culture including architecture, belief systems, and societal structure.
Egypt is a country ripe with history and rich culture, from their towering pyramids to their modern
day society. Intricately crafted obelisks and tombs decorate the landscape, but how much of that is
being preserved? The study and preservation of past culture can heavily influence and educate the
present. It is important to learn about the past in order to evolve and create a better future. While
change can be beneficial, it is important not to neglect ancient culture.
When a person thinks of Ancient Egypt, she might first picture the pyramids, the Sphinx, and even
the towering statues and obelisks. Architecture has been a defining point throughout Egypt s history.
Some structures, such as the temples of Karnak and Luxor built along the Nile River, were
created to honor the dead and worship the Egyptian gods (Temples, n.d.). Ancient Egypt was full
of temples which were built to house the Gods and separate them from the rest of the world.
According to a creation legend, the first temple was built on a large mound that had risen from the
primeval sea known as Nun. In one version of the legend, a lotus flower grew upon this mound and
humans were created soon after in an event known

Summary Of Ballad Of Birmingham By Dudley Randall
The folk classic Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall is a poem that speaks up about a
tragedy using simple rhymes and lyrics. It s clear that the ballad uses the Civil Rights Movement
and the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing as its historical context. The Civil Rights Movement
was a mass movement aimed to secure equal rights for African Americans. In the poem, the
daughter asked her mother if she could march the streets of Birmingham / To make our country
free, which references The Birmingham Campaign, also known as the Civil Rights Movement s
Project C, that included Freedom Marches (*). The mother refuses her daughter s request, saying

Mao Cultural Revolution
A. Plan of Investigation
In 1966, Mao mobilized the Chinese youth to initiate the Cultural Revolution , a violent process
eliminating old Chinese culture, customs, thoughts and habits, purging counter revolutionary party
members, and heightening Mao s personality cult. I will summarize evidence collected from
textbooks, official documents, biographies and eyewitness reports about the events between 1959
and 1966. I will describe the failure of the Great Leap Forward, Mao s resignation as president, his
power struggle with Liu Shoaqi and Deng Xiaoping and the propagating of his personality cult.
Then I will identify how these events may have given Mao reasons for launching the Cultural
Revolution, and whether his motives were of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people s faith in the government was partially restored; Liu s and Deng s popularity grew.
Furthermore, at the Conference of 7000 in 1964, instead of supporting Mao, Liu gave a speech
suggesting that the CCP was to blame for the economic failures and forced Mao into some half

Mao.
2. Establishment of the personality cult
Mao s lack of public appearances after 1958 had damaged his image and his authority. Since
1963, the Little Red book ( Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse tung ), compiling Mao s
statements on his views and ideology, had been a standard Chinese text, and his personality cult
was systematically fostered by Lin Biao , his faithful Minister of Defence, using various forms of
propaganda and giving him popular titles such as The red sun rising in the East . Mao re entered
public life on 16 July 1966 with an appearance of him swimming in the Yangtze River, to promote
his strength. He frenzied the admiration of the Chinese youth, which he was hoping to mobilize for
revolutionary purposes.

Cruel And Unusual Punishment
The cruel and unusual punishment provision is that the law must treat all criminals with dignity
even the most despicable ones. Any sentence that is taking lives instead of rehabilitating is cruel
and unusual and infringes the decency of society. The corrections system helps rehabilitate inmates
through individual or group counseling about the cause of incarceration. They train them with
suitable skills programs, such as how to prepare a job application and to interviews, and the
importance of maintaining a steady employment to support family responsibilities. They help the
inmates through educational programs to achieve a higher education while in prisonand to succeed
economically and live a healthier lifestyle outside of prison. The corrections system hopes with new
skills incorporated; they will be able to be more productive. Keeping them engaged with medical
and psychiatric treatment will keep them mentally stable for their reentry into the community.
James Gilligan (2012), a Psychiatry Professor at NewYork University, stated that Two thirds of
inmates reoffending within three years with more violent crimes after leaving prison which means
incarceration for punishment does not work positively. Inflicting punishment on convicts for pay
back only makes them more empowered criminals. Rehabilitation is the only key to reducing
crimes because a regenerated person is more conscious of how their behaviors cause their loved
ones and others around them to suffer. Awareness

The Iliad s Ending Essay
Homer s Iliad is commonly understood as an epic about the Trojan War, but its meaning goes
deeper than that. The Iliad is not only a story of the evolution of Achilleus persona, but at times it
is an anti war epic as well. The final book proposes many questions to the reader. Why not end
with the killing of Hektor? Most stories of war conclude with the triumphant victory of good over
evil, but in the Iliad, the final thoughts are inclined to the mourning of the defeated Hektor, which
accentuates the fact that good has not triumphed over evil, but simply Achilleus triumphed over
Hektor. Ending with the mourning of Hektor also brings to center stage for the first time the human
side of war and the harsh aftermath of it. We see that war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The pain is exemplified even further with the speech of Andromache, wife of Hektor. With this
we see for one of the first times the importance of family to the Trojans. Andromache s suffering
is extreme and harsh. When she says, But for me passing all others is left the bitterness and the
pain, it shows the importance of the husband to the wife. This speech is very pivotal in depicting
the bleak future for the widows whose husbands left them behind to die in search of honor. Now
that the husbands are dead, the once noble wives and children must go work as slaves, once their
city is sacked. Andromache and Astyanax are doomed to lead a wretched life, because their
protector is dead. Such is the nature of war. Were Homer to end with the killing of Hektor and
Achilleus triumph, the melancholy aftermath would be totally neglected. Another effect of
Homer s final book of the Iliad is it affirms the thought that neither Achilleus nor Hektor are the
bad guy, but both are worthy of glory and praise. A fair generalization about heroic stories is that
the good guy always win. It is clichГ©, and very common, but it is a fact. The Iliad goes beyond
this commonplace, by pitting two forces against each other, none of which can be characterized as
the good guy or the bad guy. While the entire poem is about the glory of Achilleus and his god like
superiority to all men, Hektor needs some

The Discovery Dispute And Its Effect On The Status As A...
For the reasons stated in Part II(A), supra, Avpro enters this discovery dispute with a distinct
advantage due to its status as a non party. Independent of its status as a non party, the electronic
discovery that 50NL seeks from Avpro would otherwise be undiscoverable because Avpro s need
for the discovery does not outweigh the burden and cost of locating, retrieving, and producing the

is de minimis, the burden and costs imposed on Avpro are exorbitant, all in conjunction with the
fact that Avpro is a non party to the underlying litigation, all indicate that this Court should deny

incredibly broad scope of the discovery request at issue militates in favor of denying 50NL s
motion to compel. Moreover, in this matter, not only is all the information that Avpro seeks readily

Essay on Marlowe s Doctor Faustus
Marlowe s Doctor Faustus
In Faustus first speech in Act 1, my main feeling towards Faustus was not sympathy but irritation.
I became aware of Faustus arrogance and his impatience with ordinary learning, particularly with
his referral to law as a petty case of paltry legacies. He also constantly refers to himself as Faustus ,
reminding himself of his own importance.
Other aspects of Faustus character are revealed in the descriptive language he uses. He is ravish d
by magic, and is glutted with learning. These adjectives show a very sensual personality.
The good and bad angels represent the two different sides of his personality, one side urging him to
sell his soul for magic and the other urging him to remember that ... Show more content on

Faustus sees himself as indebted to Mephostophilis for by him I ll be a great emperor of the world.
In Act 2, the good and bad angels return as a demonstration of both of
Faustus opinions. Because Faustus is such a sensual person, he is more inclined to listen to the
bad angel, which appeals to his material side. Faustus is unsure of his own decision and he
pounces on anything that could be construed as a sign to him to stop in the selling of his soul.
When he writes the bill damning his soul, and the blood congeals, Faustus wonders what might the
staying of my blood portend? Faustus questions Mephostophilis, who cleverly sidesteps each
question and appeals to Faustus sensual side by showing him a visual display of dancing devils
and fireworks.
Faustus is keen to believe in heaven but not in hell. Even though
Faustus called to hell, and Mephostophilis is standing in front him as proof of the existence of
hell, he does not truly believe his soul will be damned. He dismisses hell as trifles and mere old
wives tales. Faustus sensual side, suggested earlier in the play by his language, is openly admitted
in Act 2 when Faustus tells Mephopstophilis he is
wanton and lascivious and cannot live without a wife.
Faustus also asks Mephostophilis for the books with all the knowledge in the world. This is more
proof of his scholarly side. The devils that visit Faustus are aware of how much he relies on his
senses and use this to their

The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War Essay
The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War
To this day the Spanish Civil War is still remembered as the single most pivotal moment in the
history of Spanish politics. The only way of understanding how 600,000 Spaniards were killed
between 1936 and 1939 is to ask ourselves why the civil war broke out in Spain in 1936. There
were a number of reasons which led to the civil war in Spain. The main and most significant being
the increased political polarization between the left and right wing parties.
This polarization primarily began within Spanish society, which had been characterized by its
strong religious beliefs and conservative values, as it remained a strict Roman Catholic country for

On the other hand, was the conservative nationalists represented by the Church, the army and many
large landowners and industrialists. Most of which wanted Spain to return to the Golden Ages of
sixteenth century Catholic Spain and were in favour of the Monarchy in order to remain an
authoritarian state. This division was highlighted further by a number of pronunciamientos[6] and
uprisings between the two sides adding to the increased political tension.
For the right, they saw the defence of religious interests as their fundamental political task. [7]
Whereas, the liberals reflected the increasingly anti Catholic feeling throughout Spain. Therefore, it
can be understood why the liberal views on the Church, and its policies within the second republic
to reduce the Church s power, angered the right wing parties enough for them to retaliate through a
number of uprisings throughout Spain. Especially during the declaration of the second republic
stating that Spain no longer possessed an official religion.
During the constitutional monarchy of Alfonso CIII, the left was frustrated by the farce of the
electoral system[8], which up until the second republic was formed on the 14th April 1931,
remained in favour of local bosses, also given

Italians have been an intragyral part of American history since the founding of the country and its

but before unification Italyconsisted of small city states that were governed by small clans.
Nationalization created a disproportion of wealth from the industrialized north to the rural
overcrowded agricultural areas in the south. Over taxation by the Italian government made it hard

Aristotle s Views On Life
One of the philosophers I will choose to analyze will be Aristotle. Aristotle believes that people
should always participate in the city state, and only by being the citizen can a person lead and
pursue a life of good quality because he believed that that was the main focus and reason of
human life. Although he was a great philosopher, one of the ideas that I chose to discuss was
that he believed slaves were necessary to the functionality of a good and working society, and
that man is only fully rational if he participates in the city. This would mean that even as a slave,
you should be the best slave you could be because you are helping the city thrive however you are
in the lowest level. Aristotle believes that men should be in power,... Show more content on

I believe that Aristotle wanted to be seen and recognized for his works in everyday life. He
wants people to do the best they can in what they do so they can receive merit for it. You can
only be truly happy if you are involved in a life that is fully lived mature and refreshing. I feel like
participating in the city state is your own choice.
Aristotle identified three types of relationships that rule a household: Master slave, parent child, and
husband wife. The husband wife represented reproduction, the parent child represented education,
and the master slave represented self preservation. Aristotle defends slavery with this concept by
basically saying that for one option, there is an opposite option: If there is a male, there is a
female. He says that nature is made up of things that need to have rule over them, and rulers. He
states that some people, by nature, are slaves and some people are masters. He also tries to argue
this by saying that slavery is natural because the pattern is found in other aspects hence, husband
/wife, rational/irrational, parent/child, etc. He feels that it is unjust to enslave through means of
war because those people are not natural slaves. Aristotle believes that if it is natural for a king to
rule over his people, then a master should rule over his slave because the slave helps increase the
master s livelihood. The same idea

When considering this question, it is necessary to somewhat challenge it; to whom is Miller s

From the Bridge is a play, and therefore presented to an audience, we must presume that the
description s intended use is to instruct an actor developing his character which is to be conveyed to

This is very contrasting to Marco s later disgust and hatred of Eddie, but this is because Marco s
role is very much to represent the typical culture, belief and attitudes of Sicilian males, and to
embody the ideals of this culture, where betrayal to the family is the main crime that a man can
commit.
Physical strength and prowess is also a key component of this culture, a quality which Miller
exhibits in Marco. Square built evokes connotations of strength for many members of the
audience. Strength becomes an important idea in the play, as Eddie is defeated by Marco in the
physical competition concerning the two chairs (p 58) for example. This victory of Marco s
strength is given great importance as it closes the first act of the play, thereby also giving
importance to
Sicilian family values: it is Marco s loyalty to Rodolpho, his brother, which prompts this act of
defiance against Eddie.
As Marco s supremacy over Eddie is established further by several means, for example the chair
incident, the force and power of his opinion and strength also grows, and his attitude towards Eddie
changes. Indeed, at the end of act one, though thinly veiled, there is the competition between the
two males, showing that Marco is
suspicious of Eddie:

Electric Sheep Androids
First published in 1968, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick, still manages
to find relevance in today s reality. Much of that is due to the fascination of androids in the
modern world s pop culture, and how the concept raises debate and speculation on what is
considered human, or equal to humans in consciousness. More recently, Dick s idea of humanity
and what it means for the androids, has had a resurgence in the popular television show Westworld
, and shows no sign of slowing down. The central debate for the question at hand seems to be: what
makes something human or not human? As much as Dick attempts to undo the barrier that
separates android from proper human by making the barrier unclear, there is still a definite... Show

Evidence for this starts to pop up all over the text. This juncture appears in a scene in which two
bounty hunters are looking at the painting entitled, The Scream , by Edvard Munch. Phil says I
think that this is how an andy must feel (Dick 121). This clearly resonates with Deckard as much
as it does with Phil, because the remainder of the novel we seem to feel his discomfort in retiring
androids. He asks seconds after killing Luba, Do you think androids have souls? (Dick 125).
With all of these blurred lines, one can assume that there s a shortcoming of some sort of spark in
an android that would make them equal to humans. Whether it s their lack of connection to
animals, their void of empathy towards living beings and even each other, or even Dick s paucity
of explanation as to why some of these lines are blurred, it widens the rift between human and
android. If Philip intended this vague differentiation of human and android, it works against him
this case, and has instead emphasized our differences in more

Augustine Research Paper
Many great classical thinkers had a profound influence on later great thinkers. Plato and Aristotle
are just two examples that come to mind out of many. It would be interesting to ponder the
possibility as to whether or not the thought of later times would have the same ground that it has if
it were not for these great thinkers that came before.
In the early period of Christianity, the influence of Plato s philosophical criticisms of art can be
seen in effect in Augustine s view of the imagination as profane. One can question as to whether
Augustine s view of original sin would have been so negative if he had not imbibed the Platonic
conception of the Fall of the soul. The combination of Biblical and Hellenic elements made

Alfarabi is probably the least important of these, he is primarily significant because he was a
pioneer in the invocation of Aristotle as a philosophical authority (essentially paving the way for
the Golden Age of Muslim Aristotelianism). He is said to have believed in the unity of the
thought of Plato and Aristotle. Also, his work shows a confluence of their theories. An example of
this is his claim that God is simultaneously identical with the neo Platonic One and with Aristotle s
Self Thinking Thought . When we look at Avicenna however, we find the development of a
Muslim philosophy more independent of theological constraints as well as an Aristotelianism less
apologetic to supposed Platonic doctrine (philosopheruk). With this being said, Avicenna rejects
the conception of a divine creation of the world in time and follows Aristotle in considering the
primary aim of philosophy to be the study of being qua being. Algazali demonstrated a critical
backlash against the Aristotelianism of Avicenna, within the Islamic tradition. In his work The
Incoherence of the Philosophers , he attacks the inconsistency of the philosophical positions of
Alfarabi and Avicenna with orthodox Koranic interpretation (philosopheruk). This work is
significant philosophically because it does not rule out the possibility of philosophy de jure, but
rather points to the misuse of philosophy by both of his predecessors. In other words, he was
concerned with the philosophical ideas of the eternity of the world and the rejection of bodily
resurrection, ideas which he regarded not simply as theologically heterodox but as the result of a
misapplication of Aristotelian logical

Possum Wars Quotes
The quote. Seedlings from the same fruit, and the young of the same litter, sometimes differ
considerably from each other, though both the young and the parents...have apparently been
exposed to exactly the same conditions of life... is a quote from Charles Darwin s book, The
Origin of Species. This quote was used in the beginning of chapter three of The Evolutionof
Calpurnia Tate titled, The Possum Wars. What this quotation is trying to say is that just because
siblings were born from the same parents and have lived the exact same their whole life, they do
not always look or act alike. There are plenty of examples of that in real life of siblings that do
not look or act alike. An example of this is fraternal twins. Fraternal twins are twins that were born
at the exact same time, but they were fertilized in two different eggs, making them not look
identical, like other pairs of twins.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the bat was in his tent he tried extremely hard to protect the bat and keep it safe. He even
put a flag on his tent that was suppose to be a sign that yellow fever was in the area, but he used
the flag to try to keep people away from his tent to protect his bat and keep him safe. The reason
Jacqueline Kelly put this quote at the beginning of this chapter was because she wanted to try to
make the reader feel like Grandfather was treating the bat, and felt like the bat was one of his
siblings, and how even though the bat looked nothing like Grandfather, they still felt like they were

Arguments In 12 Angry Men
The Arguments of 12 Angry Men In the film 12 Angry Men (1957), directed by Sidney Lumet, is
a film about a group of 12 jurors on a murder case. As the beginning of the film begins, the men
are seen entering the deliberation room to come to a consensus on the case that was assigned. In
the case, a young juvenile is being tried for the murder of his own father. If he is found guilty, the
boy will be sent to the chair and will die by execution. If he is found not guilty then he will live.
As the 12 jurors all sit down to make a beginning vote (aiming to create a unanimous consensus),
only one of the men votes that the defendant is not guilty of the presented charges. Juror #8, the
opposition to everyone, believes that there is reasonable doubt... Show more content on

The argument started out with juror #8 stating that he didn t know if the kid was guilty or not, he
just believed that there were a lot of holes in the case that would lead him to believe there is
reasonable doubt in the conviction. Though this seemed like a weak argument, there were many
different key points that were made to undermine the original argument. Jumping from one fact to
the next, juror #8 eventually persuaded the entire group to change their vote to not guilty. Juror #8,
when presenting the various portions of his argument, always remains calm, as well as the other
men who eventually join his side. Juror #4, though on the original position, actually provides a lot
of this logical approach. He admits that the opposition makes sense and when the argument
overrides his, he admits he is wrong and changes his vote. This type of argument, when proven
with ethos and pathos, is successful and will gain logical support to win the overall

Before construction of the White House, though, the President lived in the President s House in Philadelphia which was built in 1767 and served originally as home to the Penn family, who founded Pennsylvania, and it was probably the largest home in all of Philadelphia. Truman added a balcony branching off the second story of the South Portico and, shortly after this, the main building was found by architects to be structurally unsound, leaving the old interior to be dismantled and rebuilt with concrete and steel instead of wood. Some small modifications were made as well during this time, such as adding bathrooms to each bedroom and repositioning the main staircase to the Entrance Hall instead of the Cross ... The onset of bipolar disorder is usually in late adolescence or early adulthood (7). It is possible for both children and adolescents to develop the disease as well. This usually happens when there is a family history for the disease. Children afflicted by bipolar disorder are usually more irritable and destructive during their manic states and are more prone to mixed states (9). It is even harder to diagnose bipolar disorder in children because it is often confused with other problems that occur at a younger age such as attention deficit disorder, conduct disorder, major depression, or schizophrenia (9). Where and how bipolar disorder is caused is still a bit of a mystery. Some information is known but nothing concrete, and a lot of dead ends. Genetic predisposition is one possible cause for bipolar disorder. The disease usually can be seen throughout a family tree of an affected individual. Twin studies have been conducted to see if there is a higher chance of identical twins, who have the same genetic make up, both getting the disease. These have shown that there is an increased likely hood of one twin to have bipolar disorder if the other has it, but it is not a certainty. The gene for bipolarity has mainly been traced to chromosome 18 as well as some others. It is uncertain which is responsible because it has been found in some cases that chromosome 18 is unaffected in bipolar patients. It is most likely that bipolar disorder is linked ... Nevertheless, the entanglement of their arms and height encourage an idea of fright and intimidation, making trees one of the many twisted structures that allows people to function and prosper in existence. Merriam Webster defines the crooked word of twisted as mentally or emotionally unsound or disturbed, giving synonyms like sick and cruel minded. Merriam Webster also explains the idea of a hero as a person admired for achievements and noble qualities, and/or one who shows great courage. While agreeing with these denotations, twisted can have several different interpretations based on a person s perspective. Factors that may change a person s views on who or what is twisted are often his or her ideology, culture, religion, social outlook, and other orientations. Born in 1803 out of the landmark United States Supreme Court decision of Marbury V. Madison, judicial review gives the court the power to invalidate any law repugnant (or in conflict with) to the constitution. Judicial review has for the courts, become a self made license to strike down legitimately made legislation by democratically elected representatives. Now that its at the U.S. Supreme Court the person seeks to have the words under God removed from the pledge of allegiance (the success of this case is unlikely because of how the court has a conservative right wing majority). Another example of a group with their own agenda undermining democracy is the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). The ACLU is seeking to repeal the Bush administration s highly touted Patriot Act. This is an example of a group that is making it their mission to skirt the proper channels of American democracy and use the judiciary to get sweeping policy change with or without the consent of the governed people. Judicial review has become the tool of choice for all the public interest law firms. It is through judicial review they are able to get (properly enacted) laws struck down or thrown out. Judicial review goes from being a tool with the intent of protecting the constitution to manipulating the legitimately enacted laws. (2001): Early hemodynamic assessment on the basis of physical findings, vital signs, central venous pressure, and urinary output fails to detect persistent global tissue hypoxia. A more definitive resuscitation strategy involves goal oriented manipulation of cardiac preload, afterload, and contractility to achieve a balance between systemic oxygen delivery and oxygen demand. End points used to confirm the achievement of such a balance (hereafter called resuscitation end points) include normalized values for mixed venous oxygen saturation, arterial lactate concentration, base deficit, and pH. Mixed venous oxygen saturation has been shown to be a surrogate for the cardiac index as a target for hemodynamic therapy. In cases in which the insertion of a pulmonary artery catheter is impractical, venous oxygen saturation can be measured in the central circulation (p. 1368). It s clear that the ballad uses the Civil Rights Movement and the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing as its historical context. The Civil Rights Movement was a mass movement aimed to secure equal rights for African Americans. In the poem, the daughter asked her mother if she could march the streets of Birmingham / To make our country free, which references The Birmingham Campaign, also known as the Civil Rights Movement s Project C, that included Freedom Marches (*). Plan of Investigation In 1966, Mao mobilized the Chinese youth to initiate the Cultural Revolution , a violent process eliminating old Chinese culture, customs, thoughts and habits, purging counter revolutionary party members, and heightening Mao s personality cult. • 28. Cruel And Unusual Punishment The cruel and unusual punishment provision is that the law must treat all criminals with dignity even the most despicable ones. Any sentence that is taking lives instead of rehabilitating is cruel and unusual and infringes the decency of society. The corrections system helps rehabilitate inmates through individual or group counseling about the cause of incarceration. They train them with suitable skills programs, such as how to prepare a job application and to interviews, and the importance of maintaining a steady employment to support family responsibilities. They help the inmates through educational programs to achieve a higher education while in prisonand to succeed economically and live a healthier lifestyle outside of prison. The corrections system hopes with new skills incorporated; they will be able to be more productive. Keeping them engaged with medical and psychiatric treatment will keep them mentally stable for their reentry into the community. James Gilligan (2012), a Psychiatry Professor at NewYork University, stated that Two thirds of inmates reoffending within three years with more violent crimes after leaving prison which means incarceration for punishment does not work positively. Inflicting punishment on convicts for pay back only makes them more empowered criminals. Rehabilitation is the only key to reducing crimes because a regenerated person is more conscious of how their behaviors cause their loved ones and others around them to suffer. Awareness ... • 29. The Iliad s Ending Essay Homer s Iliad is commonly understood as an epic about the Trojan War, but its meaning goes deeper than that. The Iliad is not only a story of the evolution of Achilleus persona, but at times it is an anti war epic as well. The final book proposes many questions to the reader. Why not end with the killing of Hektor? Most stories of war conclude with the triumphant victory of good over evil, but in the Iliad, the final thoughts are inclined to the mourning of the defeated Hektor, which accentuates the fact that good has not triumphed over evil, but simply Achilleus triumphed over Hektor. Ending with the mourning of Hektor also brings to center stage for the first time the human side of war and the harsh aftermath of it. We see that war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pain is exemplified even further with the speech of Andromache, wife of Hektor. With this we see for one of the first times the importance of family to the Trojans. Andromache s suffering is extreme and harsh. When she says, But for me passing all others is left the bitterness and the pain, it shows the importance of the husband to the wife. This speech is very pivotal in depicting the bleak future for the widows whose husbands left them behind to die in search of honor. Now that the husbands are dead, the once noble wives and children must go work as slaves, once their city is sacked. Andromache and Astyanax are doomed to lead a wretched life, because their protector is dead. Such is the nature of war. Were Homer to end with the killing of Hektor and Achilleus triumph, the melancholy aftermath would be totally neglected. Another effect of Homer s final book of the Iliad is it affirms the thought that neither Achilleus nor Hektor are the bad guy, but both are worthy of glory and praise. A fair generalization about heroic stories is that the good guy always win. It is clichГ©, and very common, but it is a fact. The Iliad goes beyond this commonplace, by pitting two forces against each other, none of which can be characterized as the good guy or the bad guy. Moreover, the fact that 50NL s need for the requested discovery is de minimis, the burden and costs imposed on Avpro are exorbitant, all in conjunction with the fact that Avpro is a non party to the underlying litigation, all indicate that this Court should deny 50NL s motion to compel. I became aware of Faustus arrogance and his impatience with ordinary learning, particularly with his referral to law as a petty case of paltry legacies. He also constantly refers to himself as Faustus , reminding himself of his own importance. Other aspects of Faustus character are revealed in the descriptive language he uses. He is ravish d by magic, and is glutted with learning. These adjectives show a very sensual personality. In Act 2, the good and bad angels return as a demonstration of both of Faustus opinions. Because Faustus is such a sensual person, he is more inclined to listen to the bad angel, which appeals to his material side. Faustus is unsure of his own decision and he pounces on anything that could be construed as a sign to him to stop in the selling of his soul. When he writes the bill damning his soul, and the blood congeals, Faustus wonders what might the staying of my blood portend? Faustus questions Mephostophilis, who cleverly sidesteps each question and appeals to Faustus sensual side by showing him a visual display of dancing devils and fireworks. Faustus is keen to believe in heaven but not in hell. Even though Faustus called to hell, and Mephostophilis is standing in front him as proof of the existence of hell, he does not truly believe his soul will be damned. He dismisses hell as trifles and mere old wives tales. Faustus sensual side, suggested earlier in the play by his language, is openly admitted in Act 2 when Faustus tells Mephopstophilis he is wanton and lascivious and cannot live without a wife. The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War Essay The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War To this day the Spanish Civil War is still remembered as the single most pivotal moment in the history of Spanish politics. The only way of understanding how 600,000 Spaniards were killed between 1936 and 1939 is to ask ourselves why the civil war broke out in Spain in 1936. There were a number of reasons which led to the civil war in Spain. The main and most significant being the increased political polarization between the left and right wing parties. This polarization primarily began within Spanish society, which had been characterized by its strong religious beliefs and conservative values, as it remained a strict Roman Catholic country for many ... For the right, they saw the defence of religious interests as their fundamental political task. [7] Whereas, the liberals reflected the increasingly anti Catholic feeling throughout Spain. Therefore, it can be understood why the liberal views on the Church, and its policies within the second republic to reduce the Church s power, angered the right wing parties enough for them to retaliate through a number of uprisings throughout Spain. Especially during the declaration of the second republic stating that Spain no longer possessed an official religion. Aristotle believes that people should always participate in the city state, and only by being the citizen can a person lead and pursue a life of good quality because he believed that that was the main focus and reason of human life. Although he was a great philosopher, one of the ideas that I chose to discuss was that he believed slaves were necessary to the functionality of a good and working society, and that man is only fully rational if he participates in the city. This would mean that even as a slave, you should be the best slave you could be because you are helping the city thrive however you are in the lowest level. Aristotle believes that men should be in power,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Aristotle wanted to be seen and recognized for his works in everyday life. He wants people to do the best they can in what they do so they can receive merit for it. You can only be truly happy if you are involved in a life that is fully lived mature and refreshing. I feel like participating in the city state is your own choice. Aristotle identified three types of relationships that rule a household: Master slave, parent child, and husband wife. The husband wife represented reproduction, the parent child represented education, and the master slave represented self preservation. Aristotle defends slavery with this concept by basically saying that for one option, there is an opposite option: If there is a male, there is a female. He says that nature is made up of things that need to have rule over them, and rulers. He states that some people, by nature, are slaves and some people are masters. He also tries to argue this by saying that slavery is natural because the pattern is found in other aspects hence, husband /wife, rational/irrational, parent/child, etc. He feels that it is unjust to enslave through means of war because those people are not natural slaves. Aristotle believes that if it is natural for a king to rule over his people, then a master should rule over his slave because the slave helps increase the master s livelihood. The same idea ... When considering this question, it is necessary to somewhat challenge it; to whom is Miller s description meant to be helpful? As A View From the Bridge is a play, and therefore presented to an audience, we must presume that the description s intended use is to instruct an actor developing his character which is to be conveyed to an audience. This is very contrasting to Marco s later disgust and hatred of Eddie, but this is because Marco s role is very much to represent the typical culture, belief and attitudes of Sicilian males, and to embody the ideals of this culture, where betrayal to the family is the main crime that a man can commit. Physical strength and prowess is also a key component of this culture, a quality which Miller exhibits in Marco. Square built evokes connotations of strength for many members of the audience. Strength becomes an important idea in the play, as Eddie is defeated by Marco in the physical competition concerning the two chairs (p 58) for example. This victory of Marco s strength is given great importance as it closes the first act of the play, thereby also giving importance to Sicilian family values: it is Marco s loyalty to Rodolpho, his brother, which prompts this act of defiance against Eddie. As Marco s supremacy over Eddie is established further by several means, for example the chair incident, the force and power of his opinion and strength also grows, and his attitude towards Eddie changes. More recently, Dick s idea of humanity and what it means for the androids, has had a resurgence in the popular television show Westworld , and shows no sign of slowing down. It would be interesting to ponder the possibility as to whether or not the thought of later times would have the same ground that it has if it were not for these great thinkers that came before. In the early period of Christianity, the influence of Plato s philosophical criticisms of art can be seen in effect in Augustine s view of the imagination as profane. Alfarabi is probably the least important of these, he is primarily significant because he was a pioneer in the invocation of Aristotle as a philosophical authority (essentially paving the way for the Golden Age of Muslim Aristotelianism). He is said to have believed in the unity of the thought of Plato and Aristotle. Also, his work shows a confluence of their theories. An example of this is his claim that God is simultaneously identical with the neo Platonic One and with Aristotle s Self Thinking Thought . When we look at Avicenna however, we find the development of a Muslim philosophy more independent of theological constraints as well as an Aristotelianism less apologetic to supposed Platonic doctrine (philosopheruk). With this being said, Avicenna rejects the conception of a divine creation of the world in time and follows Aristotle in considering the primary aim of philosophy to be the study of being qua being. Algazali demonstrated a critical backlash against the Aristotelianism of Avicenna, within the Islamic tradition. In his work The Incoherence of the Philosophers , he attacks the inconsistency of the philosophical positions of Alfarabi and Avicenna with orthodox Koranic interpretation (philosopheruk). This work is significant philosophically because it does not rule out the possibility of philosophy de jure, but rather points to the misuse of philosophy by both of his predecessors. In other words, he was concerned with the philosophical ideas of the eternity of the world and the rejection of bodily resurrection, ideas which he regarded not simply as theologically heterodox but as the result of a misapplication of Aristotelian logical ...
