Dido s Common Use Of Love In Aeneid
There are two integral pieces of love in Virgil s epic Aeneid: the romantic, lustful love (as felt by Dido
for Aeneas) and the grounded, honest, family love (as felt between Aeneas and Anchises). There is a
dynamic relationship between the two sides of love which causes each to emphasize the other – an
emphasis that is facilitated by Virgil s common use of fire and flame imagery to describe both types of
love.
Upon analyzing the lustful episode between Dido and Aeneas and the image of Aeneas fleeing troy
bearing his father, Anchises, on his back and holding his sons hand (beautifully sculpted by Bernini,
see attached), it becomes clear that the love in each situation is very different, despite the common use
of the Latin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
/ The inward fire eats the soft marrow away (IV. 92 93)
Here, the inward fire most likely refers to Dido s longing desire, as bestowed in her by Cupid, to
pursue Aeneas. However, because their love will be consummated sexually, this desire could literally
be a sense of physical arousal.
As Aeneas tells Dido of his destiny to sail for Italy not of [his] own free will, (IV.499) he begs Dido to
release him from the pain that their love causes.
So please, no more / Of these appeals that set us both afire.
(IV.497 498)
Literally, he begs for it to end. He begs for the fire to be put out and the romantic, lustful love to cease.
As Aeneas leaves, Dido is overcome with a maddened fire.
From far away I shall come after you / With my black fires, and when cold death has parted / Body
from soul I shall be everywhere / A shade to haunt you! (IV.533 536)
Dido is now consumed by her own inward fire and it causes her to pledge to haunt Aeneas with black
fire, a sign of pure evil. She vows that Aeneas will pay for this, (IV.536). Noting the transformation
from the use of inward fire as a medium for desire to a more hysterical, crazed type of passion is
essential in understanding the ultimate failure of romantic and lustful love in the Aeneid.
Finally, as Dido unleashes her own inward fire all

Essay on Enhanced Oil Recovery
INTRODUCTION
Oil and Gas refers to the naturally occurring liquid and natural gas specifically made up of long chain
hydrocarbons and various organic compounds found beneath the surface of the earth in entrapments
called reservoirs; the presence of oil and gas in these reservoirs is the reason humans survive everyday
and carry out their daily activities effectively. Different activities are usually carried out to ensure that
the oil and gas present in the reservoirs continue to support humans through their day to day activities;
such activities include exploration, development, production and finally, abandonment and
reclamation. This process is what is referred to as the oil and gas process . On completion of this
process, numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The minimum miscibility pressure of nitrogen depends largely on the pressure, temperate and the
composition of the reservoir fluid. According to Schlumberger, above the MMP, nitrogen injection is a
miscible vaporizing drive. Miscibility of nitrogen can be achieved only with light oils that are at high
pressures; therefore, the miscible method is suitable only in deep reservoirs (2011). Both methods of
miscible injection from past experiences have proved very effective. When oil has been effectively
recovered from these reservoirs using the miscible gas, the gas that has mixed with the recovered oil is
separated from the oil and re injected into the reservoir to enhance the oil recovery once again. This
process can be repeated until the reservoir is completely depleted and cannot produce any more oil.
Note that nitrogen gas injection is used when dealing with reservoir containing light oils and also very
economical allowing a recovery of up to 40%. A practical example of nitrogen gas injection is in the
Cantarell oil field in Mexico. Upon application of this enhanced oil recovery methods, there was a
noticeable increase in the oil production from 1.9 million bpd to 2.1 million bpd.

One of the important things that I learned from Demo and Fine chapter 4 and 5 is about the societal
views of marriage and divorce. By reading chapter 4, it has been clear to me that marriage still
reserved as the highest desired institution. However, I also shocked with the fact that marriage rates
are higher for more educated men and women compared to prior generations that are lower for more
educated individuals. About divorce, it is good to hear that the negative stigma associated with divorce
is reduced over time even though it does not seem that it has become positive in the recent years.
Besides, I also learned that even though marriage is popular, the social norms governing marriage
have become weaker. This happens may be because there is a change from institutional to
companionate marriage and also there is a larger emphasis on marriage meeting individualistic and
self fulfilling need. People hold many expectations on marriage. People expect marriage can help ...

However, there are still regional differences in settlement and custody even though all of the states
have some form of no fault divorce. Besides, divorce procedures have become simpler and divorce is
once again a personal decision. Nevertheless, the divorce processes are still complicated especially if
the married couple have children.
Moreover, I learned about the internal emotional and psychological dimensions of divorce introduced
by Reva Wiseman. By reading this, it shows that process of separation can extends deeply into the
psyche. Wiseman said that there are five stages of divorce denial, loss and depression, anger and
ambivalence, reorientation of lifestyle and identity and acceptance and integration. This view of
divorce let us see and learn about the process of crisis in individuals mind. It also shows how emotions

The Influence Of Nathaniel Bacon On The American Revolution
Historians tend to view events in a black or white approach. That kind of thinking would describe
Nathaniel Bacon battling for liberty and against English oppression, as paving the way for the
American Revolution. In reality, Bacon was an Indian hating landowner who was part of the nobility,
just not part of Gov. Berkeley s in crowd although he was a relative of Berkeley. Gov. Berkeley of
Virginia and his cronies in the great planter oligarchy [1] ran every aspect of life in Virginia. Berkeley
grabbed control of the House of Burgess, and he and his buddies got the best land, filled most of the
public offices and monopolized the fur trade. Besides reinstituting poll taxes, the governor also began
religious persecution of Quakers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berkeley prohibited trade with Indians without permission, and trade was conducted in forts which
were controlled by Berkeley cronies. He sanctioned unprovoked attacks against friendly tribes,
instituted trading restrictions and a general policy of all out war against Indians which he began in
1675. Indian retaliated by raiding some frontier plantations, one which was owned by Nathaniel
Bacon. Instead of trying to end the wars, Berkeley built defensive forts, which prolonged it. [3]Bacon
s plantation and the plantations of his friend s, were unprotected and isolated on the western frontier.
They asked for protection against Indian attacks and raids on their plantations and petitioned for an
armed troop. Berkeley denied and then outlawed all such petitions. Bacon, along with two other
landowners decided to raise their own army and fight the Indians themselves. He began a march to
track hostile Indians, killing friendly Indians by mistake. According to Rothbard (2011), when the
three founders, Bacon, Byrd, and Crew, and their friends ran into some militiamen at Jordan s Point,
the militia decided to mutiny and follow Bacon. When Bacon came back home most of the Virginians
viewed him as a hero.

Food And Cultural Suppropriation In The Culture Of Food
Mahatma Gandhi once said, there are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them
except in the form of bread . Food is one of the many things that is appreciated and loved by everyone
all around the world. Each geographical region of the world most likely has its own type of food or
some kind of variation to it which eventually adds up to a lot of cuisines. The larger the number of
regions, the larger the number of cuisines. So, one must be thinking, how does food relate to cultural
appropriation? What is the relationship between them? In depth, everyone eats or at least tries a dish
that is not particularly from his or her culture which is completely okay but it becomes a problem
when one steals an aspect or a factor from a culture and try to change it to make it theirs. This is where
the term cultural appropriation comes in play. This issue is big these days, and also the most discussed
about because culture is very important and sensitive to many. Cultural appropriation is the utilization
of an element from one culture by the people from another culture without having a permission
granted. The elements could be a culture s traditions, food, style, fashion, beliefs and such. For
example, restaurants or food chains using the Indian term chai in their drink names. Chai means tea
but there are so many drinks out there that are named Chai Tea Latte or Chai Tea Mocha which makes
zero sense because chai is tea. As an Indian myself, I really do not

The Death With Dignity Act
Death with Dignity Act Yellowing of the skin, hollowed in eyes, hair loss, and habitual wheezing or
shortness of breath is only an insubstantial glimpse of the rancid face of leukemia. It is estimated that
around 1 million people in the United States are living with a terminal illness (Pan 2). Some people
may feel hopeless, like their life is now meaningless due to their circumstance, and the hand they have
been dealt. When something of this magnitude occurs in ones life, doctor assisted suicide should never
be an option, or even a thought on their mind. Human euthanasia is ethically, and morally wrong. It
violates the principles of medical ethics that doctors take, it costs less to keep a person alive, rather
than die, and if this medication falls into the wrong hands, a murder could come about from it.
In the 19th century, there was an uprising in anesthesia use (Emanuel 1). In 1846, Dr. John Warren,
Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School, author of Etherization; with surgical remarks, led the
first operation using ether anesthesia. He noted that ether might be used in mitigating the agonies of
death (Robinson 1). Doctors as well as physicians became more competent in the use of morphine
injections for pain relief during the times of the Civil War, and this practice shortly became known on
a wide scale (SC 1). Joseph Bullar, in the British Medical Journal described his use of chloroform to
alleviate the pain that may accompany death on four different individuals

Edgar Allan Poe Quotes About Death
Mors ultima linea rerum est ( Latin Quotes about Death ): this quote from Horace perfectly sums up
the theme of the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe suffered much loss throughout his life first with the
loss of his mother, then his adopted mother, his first love, and finally his wife thus explaining why Poe
commonly uses death as a theme in his works. Poe also commonly writes about women and youth,
with the presence of death bringing a depressing and ominous undertone. Death exists in the happiest
and saddest of subjects. The Bells, which judging by the first two sections the reader can assume will
be a celebration of life, turns into a chaotic and then solemn story of death. Annabel Lee, which also
begins in a light and happy mood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Annabel Lee, The Raven tells of a lost love and the narrator s inability, or unwillingness, to
shed his romantic melancholia (Magistrale 40). The narrator of The Raven holds on to his grief and
sees death as a barrier currently separating [him] from the lost Lenore (Magistrale 46). The reader then
begins to also see death as barrier and can feel the same sadness that the narrator himself is feeling.
The bird brings about mixed feelings within the narrator. At first, the bird amuses the narrator , but
quickly frustrates him when the bird s only responds nevermore : the narrator wonders if he will
reencounter [Lenore] in the afterlife, and finally if the narrator himself will ever find peace in her
absence. To each of these questions the bird s consistent reply infuriates him at the same time as it
deepens his sense of loss (Magistrale 39 40). This questioning of life after death can make a reader
feel quite crestfallen as it can make him or her wonder whether or not he or she will see a loved one
again. The raven has always been a bad omen...At the conclusion of this poem, we are to believe that
the raven has become a permanent resident of the poet s chamber and soul (Magistrale 40 1): the raven
never leaves the poet similar to how death lurks always creating a dark feeling within the

The Covenant Of A Covenant
Covenant is a very important idea in both the Old and New Testament. Important covenants revealed
through both Testaments are the Sinai covenant and the crucifixion of Jesus, the new covenant. A
covenant includes five fundamental features which help strengthen the notion that a covenant is an
eternal promise with God, not a relationship that can be broken resulting in legal repercussions.
Firstly, the origin of a covenant will be discussed. Secondly, this paper will shed light on the traits of a
covenant. Lastly, this paper will explain how a covenant differs from a contract. Firstly, the theme of a
covenant originates in both Judaism and Christianity. The major covenant in Judaism is the Sinai
covenant which Yahweh gave to Moses and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of a covenant also originates in the Christian faith, where Jesus is seen as the new covenant
in the New Testament. According to Britannica, [t]he cup of wine at the last supper of Jesus and his
disciples is identified in all New Testament sources as the (new) covenant by Jesus himself ( par27).
The oath taker and the sacrificial victim are important in covenant traditions. The oath taker is
symbolized by the body and bread of Jesus while the sacrificial victims are those who do not fulfill the
covenant. The crucifixion of Jesus reveals the new covenant where God declared that he will make a
new covenant with the people of Israel and that [He] will write the law in their minds and write it on
their hearts. [He] will be their God, and they will be [His] people, (English Standard Version, Jeremiah
31:32 33). By inscribing the law in their hearts and minds, his people will not forget their promise to
Him. In summary, God instilled a covenant in both Judaism and Christianity in which the Sinai
covenant can be seen as the original covenant and Jesus symbolizing the new covenant. Secondly, a
covenant includes five traits such as the preamble, historical prologue, the submission, witnesses, and
the blessings and curses. The origin of a covenant begins as a treaty between a sovereign nation and a
vassal nation which begins with a name . . . [then] describes the previous

The View Of Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is one of the only things that nearly every human being is capable of feeling. Like many aspects
of human lives, views on love differ from every individual. Nowhere is this more present than in
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, where Romeo, a member of the Montague family, and
Juliet, a member of the rivaling Capulet family, find themselves in the circumstances of falling madly
in love with each other. Throughout the play and through the different relationships encountered,
Shakespeare s attitude toward love differs between how Romeo is portrayed to love Juliet, how Juliet
is displayed to love Romeo, and how Juliet s nurse is shown to view love on its own. Romeo s views
on love are most accurately presented when he encounters or ... Show more content on

Through this it is made unmistakable that contradictory to how Romeo and Juliet perceive love, the
nurse views it solely as a means of achieving pleasure. When giving advice to Juliet about a
relationship, the nurse tells Juliet to Go, girl, seek happy nights to happy days (1.3.106). The nurse s
use of raunchy and borderline sexual language (for the time) when referring to love demonstrates that
she finds love to be a way of attaining pleasure. Similarly, when the nurse also attempts to explain to
Juliet that she can still find love in Paris, her attitude toward love is shown: I think you are happy in
this second match, For it excels your first. Or if it did not, Your first is dead, or twere as good he were,
As living here and you no use of him (3.5.222 225). By focusing on the aspects of finding happiness
rather than focusing on true and genuine emotion in Juliet s possible relationships, even in the most
dire of situations, the nurse is unmistakably demonstrated to consider love as being a method of
gaining satisfaction. The nurse, like most other people involved in Romeo and Juliet, has her own
opinions on what love truly is, and with several examples, the nurse is shown to understand love as
solely a mechanism for obtaining pleasure and

Southeast Team Master Plan Of Evaluation
Southeast Team Master Plan of Evaluation A master plan of evaluation serves to meet the expectations
standards of academia. The plan is designed to track and measure the success of the planned outcomes
and organized around an evaluation model and theory set by the program designers (Keating, 2015).
Furthermore, as a systematic and written document, the master plan is usually based on evaluation
frameworks, which guide the activities for gathering and analyzing data. The plan provides the tools
for continuous evaluation to identify successes and shortcomings of the program (Ellis, 2016). In
continuation, this paper will present the third part of the course project outline for the Southeast region

A Quick History Of Abortion Pills
A quick history of abortion pills and how they came to be comes from WebMD. The top drug used for
abortions is mifepristone also known as RU 486. Testing of the drug began in 1983 when the FDA
issued a permit. Jan. 1993 President Clinton asked for the FDA to reconsider their import ban. In 1994
1995 the Population Council the U.S. patent rights for mifepristone, and clinical trials began. In
September 1996 the FDA issued an approval for RU 486 to be used as a safe alternative to surgical
abortion, but they also said, they wanted more information on how the drug was manufactured and
labeled before they could make their final decision. On September 28, 2000 the FDA approved RU
486 as a method for early medical abortion.
Mifepristone can be used till the eighth week of pregnancy. The woman is required to go to at least
three doctor office appointments during the treatment. The drug is taken by mouth usually once unless
directed differently by the woman s doctor. The woman has to take misoprostol within forty eight
hours of taking the mifepristone (RU 486).
Some side effects of these drugs are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and/or dizziness. If the side
effects continue after the first 24 hours, medical attention is required because there can be serious
medical problems. Bleeding and severe cramps are expected during the process. Bleeding and spotting
may last for more than the next 30 days. Sometimes, the bleeding has needed to be stopped by surgery.

The U.s. Supreme Court
The U.S. Supreme Court is the highest federal court in the United States of America. This is expressed
in Article III, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, which states that, The judicial power of the United
States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court. (1) They have jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to
federal and constitutional law, including the interpretation of such laws. Article III, Section 2 of the
U.S. Constitution clarifies the Supreme Court s judicial jurisdiction by stating that, Judicial power
shall extend to all cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United
States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority (1) The powers granted to the
judiciary in the U.S. Constitution have allowed the courts to overrule state legislatures, Congress,
governors, and even presidents. They are able to strike down laws, rules, and regulations that are
interpreted as violations of federal or constitutional law.
There are several factors that influence Supreme Court decision making, many of which fall into two
categories of influence: political and legal. Demonstrated in the attitudinal model, a judge s attitudes

Prostitutes In Ancient Athens
Prostitutes in Ancient Athens

Ancient Athens was a highly polarized society in which citizenship meant everything. Citizenship
permitted individuals to not only participate in the democratic government but also gave them access
to all the rights and splendors of the city. A citizen controlled influence over slaves, foreigners and
most importantly women.
Athenian women were relegated to the status of child bearers and keepers of the household. There was
no room for personal expression or freedom and the strict moral code in many cases restricted these
women from even leaving their homes. There was a select group of women however who overcame
these obstacles to achieve greater sexual, economical, and social ... Show more content on

This is evident in the way that women were referred to in conversation as they were called aste (city
woman) rather than the feminine form of citizen which was politis (Just 1989: 21). Furthermore,
women s subservient status is also demonstrated in the common practice during formal speech of
specifying women by their relationships with men. Wives remained in the house for the majority of
the time and did not perform strenuous activity as the procreation of a son was all important
(http//:www.perseus.tufts.edu/classes/JKp.html). Another example of the inferior status of women is
the fact that adultery was a more serious crime than rape as it was an offense to the husband and put
into question the legitimacy of his sons (http://www.ucd.ie/~classics/94/Arkins94.html). Perhaps the
best description of the way in which wives were viewed by Athenian men is given by Ischomachos in
the Oikonomikos: Why, what knowledge could she have had, Sokrates, when I took her? She was not
yet fifteen years old when she came to me, and up until that time she had lived under the utmost care,
seeing as little as possible, hearing as little as possible, and saying as little as possible. If, when she
came to me, she knew no more than how to turn out a cloak when given the wool and had only seen
only how to the spinning had been given out to the maids, is that not as much as could be expected
(Xenophon: 7.5).

Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century
Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace
change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The
first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the
Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second
are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights
Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in
the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player.
When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because
of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and
eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African
American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor
facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students
were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of
education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her
home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of
the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black
community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not
having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their
schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote.
A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south
(Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended

Wonder By R J Palacio Summary
Everybody, regardless of who we are, what we look like, how we act and how or got bullied, will
shine. This thesis statement relates to the book, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. The craft move that the
author puts in is dialogue. In the beginning of the story, we begin with the beginning signs of bullying
from a student at Beecher Prep, the school that August, which at the time, is his future school, as he
asks him what happened to his face, saying he looked like he was in a fire (quote missing). But as time
goes on, August is affected by the surroundings he s seen in addition to the bullying done by Julian, as
he says, Why do I have to be so ugly, Mommy? (Palacio 60) under tears. Things only get worse as
when he comes into school on Halloween,

Czech Republic And The Republic
The Czech Republic is located nearly in the center of Europe and was recently known as
Czechoslovakia. The Czech Republic is bordered by Slovakia, Germany, Poland, and Austria. The
Czech Republic was a part of Czechoslovakia until 1993 when it split into both the Czech Republic
and Slovakia. With it being a fairly new country, one would assume that it is struggling to catch up to
society economically, this is simply untrue, because the Czech Republic is one of the most
economically stable countries in Europe. The Czech Republic has been a member of the European
Union since it joined in 2004. The Czech Republic is one of the most economically profitable
countries inside the European Union. The Czech Republic is a smaller country, only being around
30,450 square miles big, a little less than half the size of New York state and roughly 22 times smaller
than the state of Alaska. Although it is small, its location is very beneficial when it comes to importing
and exporting. All of the bordering countries of the Czech Republic are members of the European
Union, so they all share lower taxes on imports and exports as well as more economic freedom when
trading amongst each other. Because of this, the barriers of entry to the Czech Republic are almost
nonexistent. The recent history of the Czech Republic has been somewhat small being that it only
became a country 22 years ago. According to Carter et al, the Velvet Revolution of 1989 back when

Isaiah 40-66
There are several challenges with the historical background and political setting of Isaiah 40 66
concerning author, date, time and situation of life for the Jews. LaSor notes that traditional views that
Isaiah authored the entire book are held by very few scholars. More and more critics are accepting a
two book theory with chapters 1 39 as book one and chapters 40 66 as book two. Moreover, there are
further refinements resulting in three books, dividing chapters 40 66 into 40 55 (Deutero Isaiah) and
56 66 (Trito Isaiah). (LaSor, William 1996., 281)
Since the argument for multiple authorships and time periods directly affect the historical and political
setting, it is necessary to briefly review them now. As noted by Laser, Internal evidence ... Show more

This would be sufficient to account for the introduction of later viewpoints resonating with its origins.
(LaSor, William 1996., 285)
Thus, the historical and political setting for Isaiah 40 66 could be spread across the rule of three
dominant nations, Assyria, Babylon, and Persia. Boadt notes that while the theme of Deutero Isaiah
was Consolation, the overall theme of the book centered on God as the Holy One of Israel; foreign
rule was God s disciplinary tool, and God s makes Zion the Divine dwelling place. (Boadt 1984, 417)
The IDB provides a brief overview of Israel s political setting after the invasions of Assyria in the first
century.
From the late 8th to the late 2nd cent., under Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, and Greek domination,
the sovereignty of monarchic Israel was confined to Jerusalem and its hinterland. This small colonial
sovereignty was embodied first in a vassal monarchy, then in an exiled monarchy, which was briefly
restored, then in a monarchic priesthood. (Sakenfeld 2006 2009,

The Influence Of Pierre Trudeau On Canadian History
Pierre Trudeau`s legacy presents evidence that indicates he was the most influential figure in Canadian
history. Throughout his career, his belief of a distinct Canada apart from Britain has grown and has
developed into many important decisions for Canada to solidify Canada`s reputation among the world
(Bibliography par. 1). Moreover, he strongly believed in a unified country with Quebec, thus
completely rejecting the idea of Quebec separatism, which helped develop Canada`s multiculturalism
(1980 Referendum par. 3). Lastly, he believed in full acceptance of culture and language, therefore he
played a significant role in the creation of official bilingualism. (Bibliography par. 1). Clearly, Pierre

pathway to a unified Canada. Firstly, this act helped maintain and strong connection with Quebec and
prevented their total isolation from Canada (par. 1). To explain, Quebec sought to maintain their
culture and preserve the French language and if the terms were not met, they would attempt to leave
Canada (Quebec par. 2). Therefore, this act agreed upon the terms that the Quebecers wanted and
allowed every single Canadian citizen to seek services in their preferred language (Understand par. 1).
This right allowed French Canadians to feel less disconnected with the rest of Canada, thus fixing the
English and French relationship. Secondly, this act prevented discrimination between the two cultures,
as rights were created to merge the two languages into the Canadian society (Understand par. 3). For
example, a section in the Official Languages Act states that federal institutions are required to provide
services in both official languages (par. 3). In other words, these two languages were now
implemented into the Canadian society and English Canadians became more exposed to this minority
culture, which lead to acceptance of the French culture and language. Lastly, the Official Languages

before our time is up. One of my bullet point on my bucket list consist of going to Columbia. This
assignment gave me an opportunity to research interesting things in Columbia. Now, when I go to
Columbia, I will visit Nevado del Ruiz and its very colorful history and remarkable characteristics.
The volcano is part of Los Nevados National Natural Park in Columbia, South America. It is actually a
very popular park, being the third most visited place in Columbia. Nevado del Ruiz has been an active
stratovolcano for about two million years. Nevado del Ruiz was formed by subduction of the Nazca

In 1595, Nevado del Ruiz erupted. The eruption could be heard 62 miles away. It caused lahars, which
made it to the valleys of Gualí and Lagunillas rivers. Of course, this killed the fishes and vegetation;
more than 600 people died from the lahar. In 1845, a lahar flooded the upper valley of the River
Lagunillas. This mudflow flowed down the valley of the Lagunillas River for 40 miles. This time it
spilled out of the river channel which reached an alluvial fan. This made the mudflow split into two
branches; 1000 people were killed in the mudflows. In 1985, Nevado del Ruiz began to erupt; this one
was the worst of all. The lahar ran down the volcano s sides at an average speed of 60 km per hour.
The lahar reached a width of 200 feet, and about 25,000 people were killed.
Many people blame the government of all those deaths. In November 1984, geologists observed a
growing level of seismic activity near Nevado del Ruiz. The report was sent on October 22, 1985. It
said that there was a hazard of lahars to be very high. The government was warned of the dangers, but
didn t evacuate. Nevado del Ruiz continues to be active and it continues to be a threat to people, cities,
rivers, and vegetation. It is said that over 100,000 people are in high risk areas if another lahar like the
one in 1985 happened

The technique was first introduced in the early 20th Century (Pearson 1901 and Hotelling 1933 cited
in Kolenikov and Angeles 2004; Krishnan 2008). It is a multivariate analysis method that is used to
transform a large number of related (correlated) variables into a smaller and parsimonious set of
orthogonal (unrelated) factors. These unrelated factors, or the principal components as they are
popularly called, are linear weighted combinations of the initial variables used in the data set. The
technique orders the components so that the first is a linear index of all the variables that accounts for
the largest amount of variation in all the variables, while the second, which is orthogonal to the first,
accounts for the maximum variation that is not accounted for in the first index. Each subsequent
component accounts for the maximum variation that is not accounted for by the preceding components
until all the variance in the original variables is accounted for. A formal definition of principal
components analysis is presented below.

Lou Gehrig s Ethos
Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. Lou Gehrig On July 4, 1939, at
the Yankee Stadium, in New York, a man delivered one of the most efficient and rousing speeches of
all time. A man whose skill set did not lie within the realm of speechmaking; rather his artistry lied on
the baseball field. His name was Lou Gehrig, and the sole purpose of his speech was to show how
courageous and strong willed an individual can be when faced with misfortune. Throughout Mr.
Gehrig s rather short speech he heavily applied ethos, which is based on our perception of a speaker s
competence, character, good will, and dynamism. (Osborn Turner, 2015, p.341) as well as pathos
which appeals to personal feelings such as fear, pity, and anger. (Osborn Turner, 2015, p.341). By
using these two combined appeals it allowed Mr. Gehrig to establish himself as a courteous and
appreciative man who acknowledged himself as a an individual lucky enough to be presented with the
wondrous opportunities life held. Logos is the evidence and proofs that the speech develops fit

In the terms of producers marketing is about what services and products to produce, when and why to
introduce new offers. It is also about determining the volume of supply, the correct price, and when
and where to make products available to buyers.
The marketing concept holds that the key to achieving organisational goals consists in determining the
desired satisfactions more effectively and efficiently than competitors, in a way that preserves or
enhances the customers and the society s well being. Kotler (1991:16 26) this identifies that it is
important for businesses to determine customer satisfactions more efficiently and effectively to gain a
competitive advantage and help reach organisational goals.
Demand are supply relationships are used between consumers and suppliers and are vital for the
marketing economy as stated by Heakal (2015) states: supply and demand is perhaps one of the most
fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of the market economy .
The main aim of this marketing method is to accomplish something called equilibrium, this is when
demand and supply meet in the middle. For businesses to be able to accomplish this, it is vital to fully
understand the behaviours of customers, also their wants and needs. Businesses should use the
information of customer behaviour to

Many of Twain s works were tied into his childhood in Hannibal. like Life in Mississippi, Tom

one of Twain s most upbeat books. He wrote it at the beginning of his writing career before all of the

The book is filled with rambling anecdotes, comical turns, and tall tales. It tells the tales of humorous

Analysis Of The Film Wadjda
Interested in your father s glorious family tree? You aren t included, it only includes men s names. In
the film Wadjda , directed by Haifaa Al Mansour, a girl named Wadjda from the male dominated
culture of Saudi Arabia sees a green bike that she strives her hardest to own. Although could the bike
be a metaphor for something deeper? Some may say the bike is nothing more than a plain old bike, but
in this essay, I will discuss how and why the green bike symbolises more than a mere green bike. The
focus will be on the significance of the bike, why it has been chosen to act as the metaphor, and
how/why the director has chosen it to show that Wadjda is subversive.
In the movie, there is a green bike Wadjda desperately wants, although it challenges the norms of her
society. The director Haifaa Al Mansour uses the bike to not only represent a transportation device, but
also a metaphor for freedom. Wadjda s main goal in the movie is to own the bike. However, ownership
of the bike for a girl challenges the cultural norms of Saudi Arabia. This means that for her to own it,
in a sense, signifies breaking through the barrier of the Saudi Arabian expectations and entering
freedom. Thus, making it a metaphor for freedom and equality. The film director explains this in an
interview that came out shortly after the movie in 2012. Why would the director choose a bike to act
as the metaphor, you may ask yourself?

Benefits Of Volunteering At St. David s Medical Center
Anne Frank once said, no one has ever become poor by giving. Giving incorporates so many things:
giving money, giving food, giving clothes, giving gifts, etc. Personally, I see time as the most
significant thing one can give to others. Volunteering is, at its core, giving your time to help others.
Volunteering has always been a big part of my life; at a younger age I would help the ladies in the
cafeteria serve lunch after Sunday school and clean up the main hall afterwards, in high school I was
in organizations that presented me with ample opportunities to volunteer, and presently I still manage
to volunteer every semester in college. Aside from keeping volunteering as a constant aspect of my
life, I would like to volunteer at St. David s Medical center because I would be able to learn about
working in a hospital and in the medical field as I volunteer. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of
Science in biology and graduate school is a must, but I have yet to decide of medical school is the path
I want to embark on. Volunteering at a medical center would give me the insight on not only particular
jobs in various departments, but I would also have the privilege of experiencing the atmosphere of a
hospital. This experience would be a true blessing in so many ways. Helping others and giving back is
always my main goal when volunteering. Understanding the story behind the cause and having the
ability to empathize is a big part of every volunteer job. Knowing that your

The Killer Angels, by Michael Shaara, tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg. The story begins on
June 29, 1863. A spy comes to Longstreet and informed him I ve got the position of the Union Army,
they re coming in seven crops. I figure at least eighty thousand men, possibly as much as a hundred
thousand (The Killer Angels 8). General Jeb Stuart was supposed to be tracking the Union Army, so
this information surprises him. If the spy was right the army was in great danger (The Killer Angels

Athabasca Sands Case Study
To what extent does the Athabasca Oil Sands take responsibility in promoting environmental
stewardship? The Oil Sands are a mixture of sand, water, clay and bitumen. Bitumen is oil that is too
heavy or thick to flow or be pumped without being diluted or heated. Throughout many decades, the
environment has become a critical concern, and the responsibility the Oil Sands has taken is
preposterous. The GHG (greenhouse gas emissions) emissions that are released into the environment

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Genetically Modified Foods
Often a common question is whether the production of GM foods is a solution to the food crisis or a
disaster in the making. First off GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory
process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes
of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals
or even humans. So essentially it is taking food, modifying food using a gene that solves an obstacle
and putting it on the market for us to eat. Some of the advantages of GM foods are that they are better
for the environment. GMOs are adapted in such a way that many plants don t require pesticides or
other chemicals that impact on the earth. GMOs increase the flavour and longevity of the fruit.
Another advantage which is probably in the best interest of society is that fact that it often decreases
price of products and often becomes more affordable. Although research and testing is not cheap, once
it is on the market the prices of your normal GM foods are substantially more affordable. With all the
advantages comes the counter, disadvantage. GM foods often cause cross contamination where pollen
from genetically modified foods are also contaminated. When GMOs are around other plants often the
pollen can drift over to the wrong plants and create plants that have resistance to the conditions that
were meant for the crops to be resistant to. Essentially GMOs potentially have the

Using the same idea behind the helmet, Easton also saw young catchers having problems safely
clipping on their chest protector. Employing a similar quick connect idea, the Easton M5™ chest
protector adds a simple quick clip and an adjustable strap.
Easton added a plate inside the dual foam padding to add additional protection around the collarbone
and in the throat area. Since the chest protector part of catchers equipment for youth players needs to
fit securely, the over the shoulder quick adjustment is one of the most popular features for the smallest
catchers.
Catchers Shin Guards
The lower leg on a catcher can take a beating. It is important that the shin guards remain securely in
place, and have a hard shell backed by padding to deflect the impact. To accomplish this, the guard
needs to have a good strap set up, in addition to full leg

Hidden Courage of a Boy
The boy lay there next to his father keeping each other warm from the chilling atmosphere where they
set camp. The air was so moist it turned the dirt into damp mud and the boy could feel his sleeping
bag submerge into it. The intimidating glare of an owl examining him sent a tingle up his spine. The
sounds of bugs chiming filled the ambience, killing the silence giving him a sense of security. He
looked up at the twilight sky illuminated by the blinding shimmer of the full moon gleaming through
the forest trees over him. Surrounding it was an array of glimmering stars prompting the sky alive. As
his body grew accustomed to the environment, each natural attribute gave him comfort and allowed
him to slowly fall into a deep sleep.
The tickling sensation of heat bathing his face forced him to slowly open his eyes. The sun s golden
rays stunned him blurring his vision as he quickly turned away. As his eyes adjusted, he was surprised
to find the absence of his father. His heart started to pound and all the confidence and security that he
had built up melted in the space of a few seconds. He jumped up flinging his sleeping bag on to the
ground and looked around taking note of his surroundings. To him, it felt as if the trees were suddenly
sent out to attack him like stealthy assassins gaining on him as they moved side to side from the winds
steady breeze. The faint noise of bugs and animals chattering sounded like the grunt of a predator
before it hunts its prey. A colossal cloud

Technology Shaped the Rhapsody
Queen s 1975 classic Bohemian Rhapsody is extremely influenced by the recording technology used
to create its sound and enhance its musical presentation. Multi tracking phrases and over dubbing
instruments played a key role in the creation of the piece. The piece was revolutionary for the
progressive rock musical period as maximised the use of recording technology at the time. This can be
seen when compared to a contemporary classics of the time, Led Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven and
Pink Floyd s Eclipse.
The Acapella Introduction of Bohemian Rhapsody (refer to bars 1 4 in figure 1) began when lead
singer, Freddie Mercury, created a chord progression consisting of Bb7, Cm7, F7.
Figure 1: Bars 1 4 of Acapella Introduction Brian May, lead guitarist of Queen reported in BBC News
that: [Freddie] came in and knew exactly what he wanted. [He] sang a guide vocal at the time, but he
had all his harmonies written out, and it was really just a question of doing it. Luckily for Queen, they
were able to stretch the recording industry to a place it had never been before. After creating chords,
Freddie then worked on lyrics and vocal harmonies, dividing the vocals into Solo, Soprano, Mezzo
Soprano, Alto and Bass. Mercury used multi tracking techniques and a Guide Track Piano to record
the various vocal parts. A Guide Track Piano is a Piano used to pre record a melodic guide for a
vocalist to follow while recording vocals. Mercury recorded the

Essay On Lipid Based Delivery System
In recent years, a great deal of interest has been focussed on lipid based carrier systems. The most
popular approach is the incorporation of the active poorly water soluble component into inert lipid
vehicles such as oils, surfactant dispersions, solid dispersions, solid lipid nanoparticles, emulsions,
micro emulsions, Nano emulsions, self emulsifying formulations (SEF), micro/nanoemulsifying
formulations, and liposomes.
The essential component of activity by which a lipid formulation prompts enhanced bioavailability is
typically avoidance of a slow dissolution process which constrains the bioavailability of hydrophobic
drugs from solid dose frames (Shweta Gupta, 2013). Preferably the formulation allows the drug to
remain in a dissolved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the extensive potential that these lipid excipients offer, not very many lipids based
Formulations have achieved the pharmaceutical commercial place. This might be because of the
inadequate data with respect to the generally complex physical science of lipids and worries about
figured drugs substance and physical stability. In addition to these concerns, the interaction of a lipid
based formulation with the GI condition and its effect on drug absorption is also important. For
example, edible lipids have been appeared to be extensively more productive enhancers of poorly
soluble drug ingestion, as compared to nondigestible lipids (e.g., liquid paraffin). Unsaturated fat
chain length of the lipid likewise impacts drug absorption. Both long and medium chain triglyceride
oils with various degrees of saturation have been utilized for the design of self emulsifying
formulations.
2. Surfactants: The self emulsifying properties require the incorporation of relatively large amounts of
surfactant in the formulation in addition to the oily drug carrier vehicle. The surfactants may improve
the affinity between lipids and intestinal membrane or increase the permeability of the intestinal
membrane (Gershanik T,

The person I am going to analyse in this assignment is Aileen Lee Carol Wuornos who was considered
to be the first American female serial killer (Anon., 2015). Wuornos was born on February 29th 1956
in Rochester Michigan (Anon., 2015). Her father, Leo Dale Pittman was an alleged child molester and
her mother Diane Wuornos was a teen mother who was not capable of taking up the responsibilities
that came about with being a mother (Anon., 2015). Wuornos mother abandoned both her and her
brother when they were young leaving them in the care of their grandparents (Anon., 2015). Her
grandmother was an alcoholic whereas her grandfather abused her both physically and sexually
(Anon., 2015). At the young age of eleven, Aileen Wuornos began trading sexual favours for money,
beer and even cigarettes (Anon., 2015). This also allowed her to be able to be part of cliques and have
a sense of belonging. On March 1971, when she was fourteen she gave birth to her only child whom
she gave up for adoption (Anon., 2015). At that same time, her grandmother died of liver failure which
led to her grandfather kicking her out of the house (Anon., 2015). She was made wards of the court

Literary Devices In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Quoting Romeo and Juliet
In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare portrays the inevitability of fate and futility of resisting one
s identity. This is evident, first of all, when Romeo, after slaying Tybalt, says O, I am fortune s fool.
This is an example of alliteration, which is a sound technique that relies not on repeated letters, but
repeated sounds and is produced when a number of words with the same first consonant sound occur
close together. Shakespeare uses this technique of alliteration to create rhythm and mood to the
dialogue, as well as trying to engage the audience. Shakespeare also portrays this theme, when Romeo
says Some consequence yet hanging in the stars/ shall bitterly begin his fearful fate/ with his nights
revels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tell me, that I may sack/The hateful mansion. This is an example of a metaphor, which is closely
related to a simile, the differences being that similes compare two things, whilst metaphors are phrases
that are literally applied to another, using figure of speech. Shakespeare uses this technique of
metaphors to express and convey how strong the rage that took over Romeo s self control was.
Shakespeare also portrays this theme when Prince Escalus says See, what a scourge is laid upon your
hate/That heavens finds means to kill your joys with love. This is an example of two techniques, using
metaphors and imagery. Imagery is when figurative language is used to associate words to physical
objects or features. Shakespeare uses the techniques of metaphors and imagery to associate the
emotions of the Capulet s and Montague s losses, with the image of a scourge, or a whip. The imagery
of the whip represents the fact that what they have done through the hatred that overtook their self
control and reason, has been punished. These examples of metaphors and imagery confirm that
William Shakespeare successfully represents the tyranny of the passions in overthrowing self control

Privacy and Computer Technology
Privacy and Computer Technology
Today, the development of technology is spread all over the world and so are ethical issues. Because
of the widespread, computer ethics are boiling down distinguishing what is good from what is wrong
mentality. Everyone s view on computer ethics differ, however all should keep in mind the value of
ethics when making decisions that are ethics based. The golden rules of computer ethics state that, one
should do to one another what he/she thinks should be done to them and if at least quite a number of
people obey the golden rule, then there would be no many issues concerning computer ethics as they
are today. The computer ethics that surround us presently brought by software, and social networking
sites have plagued the cyber world for many years.
Software Issues Nowadays, most people in the organization are overlooking ethical use of software.
By an organization purchasing any kind of software does not give privileges that they own the
software, and therefore can use it anyhow. Organization should put in mind that they never own any
software, but what they actually have is the license for using the software purchased. It is therefore a
requisite for every organizations and small companies to accept the terms as well as the conditions that
apply upon using software. Accepting the copyright terms guarantees people never to use the
purchased software for anything else other than what is intended to be used for, hence no copies
should be made

  • 3. Dido s Common Use Of Love In Aeneid There are two integral pieces of love in Virgil s epic Aeneid: the romantic, lustful love (as felt by Dido for Aeneas) and the grounded, honest, family love (as felt between Aeneas and Anchises). There is a dynamic relationship between the two sides of love which causes each to emphasize the other – an emphasis that is facilitated by Virgil s common use of fire and flame imagery to describe both types of love. Upon analyzing the lustful episode between Dido and Aeneas and the image of Aeneas fleeing troy bearing his father, Anchises, on his back and holding his sons hand (beautifully sculpted by Bernini, see attached), it becomes clear that the love in each situation is very different, despite the common use of the Latin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... / The inward fire eats the soft marrow away (IV. 92 93) Here, the inward fire most likely refers to Dido s longing desire, as bestowed in her by Cupid, to pursue Aeneas. However, because their love will be consummated sexually, this desire could literally be a sense of physical arousal. As Aeneas tells Dido of his destiny to sail for Italy not of [his] own free will, (IV.499) he begs Dido to release him from the pain that their love causes. So please, no more / Of these appeals that set us both afire. (IV.497 498) Literally, he begs for it to end. He begs for the fire to be put out and the romantic, lustful love to cease. As Aeneas leaves, Dido is overcome with a maddened fire. From far away I shall come after you / With my black fires, and when cold death has parted / Body from soul I shall be everywhere / A shade to haunt you! (IV.533 536) Dido is now consumed by her own inward fire and it causes her to pledge to haunt Aeneas with black fire, a sign of pure evil. She vows that Aeneas will pay for this, (IV.536). Noting the transformation from the use of inward fire as a medium for desire to a more hysterical, crazed type of passion is essential in understanding the ultimate failure of romantic and lustful love in the Aeneid. Finally, as Dido unleashes her own inward fire all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Enhanced Oil Recovery INTRODUCTION Oil and Gas refers to the naturally occurring liquid and natural gas specifically made up of long chain hydrocarbons and various organic compounds found beneath the surface of the earth in entrapments called reservoirs; the presence of oil and gas in these reservoirs is the reason humans survive everyday and carry out their daily activities effectively. Different activities are usually carried out to ensure that the oil and gas present in the reservoirs continue to support humans through their day to day activities; such activities include exploration, development, production and finally, abandonment and reclamation. This process is what is referred to as the oil and gas process . On completion of this process, numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The minimum miscibility pressure of nitrogen depends largely on the pressure, temperate and the composition of the reservoir fluid. According to Schlumberger, above the MMP, nitrogen injection is a miscible vaporizing drive. Miscibility of nitrogen can be achieved only with light oils that are at high pressures; therefore, the miscible method is suitable only in deep reservoirs (2011). Both methods of miscible injection from past experiences have proved very effective. When oil has been effectively recovered from these reservoirs using the miscible gas, the gas that has mixed with the recovered oil is separated from the oil and re injected into the reservoir to enhance the oil recovery once again. This process can be repeated until the reservoir is completely depleted and cannot produce any more oil. Note that nitrogen gas injection is used when dealing with reservoir containing light oils and also very economical allowing a recovery of up to 40%. A practical example of nitrogen gas injection is in the Cantarell oil field in Mexico. Upon application of this enhanced oil recovery methods, there was a noticeable increase in the oil production from 1.9 million bpd to 2.1 million bpd. • 5. Psy 230 Week 2 One of the important things that I learned from Demo and Fine chapter 4 and 5 is about the societal views of marriage and divorce. By reading chapter 4, it has been clear to me that marriage still reserved as the highest desired institution. However, I also shocked with the fact that marriage rates are higher for more educated men and women compared to prior generations that are lower for more educated individuals. About divorce, it is good to hear that the negative stigma associated with divorce is reduced over time even though it does not seem that it has become positive in the recent years. Besides, I also learned that even though marriage is popular, the social norms governing marriage have become weaker. This happens may be because there is a change from institutional to companionate marriage and also there is a larger emphasis on marriage meeting individualistic and self fulfilling need. People hold many expectations on marriage. People expect marriage can help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Influence Of Nathaniel Bacon On The American Revolution Historians tend to view events in a black or white approach. That kind of thinking would describe Nathaniel Bacon battling for liberty and against English oppression, as paving the way for the American Revolution. In reality, Bacon was an Indian hating landowner who was part of the nobility, just not part of Gov. Berkeley s in crowd although he was a relative of Berkeley. Gov. Berkeley of Virginia and his cronies in the great planter oligarchy [1] ran every aspect of life in Virginia. Berkeley grabbed control of the House of Burgess, and he and his buddies got the best land, filled most of the public offices and monopolized the fur trade. Indian retaliated by raiding some frontier plantations, one which was owned by Nathaniel Bacon. Instead of trying to end the wars, Berkeley built defensive forts, which prolonged it. [3]Bacon s plantation and the plantations of his friend s, were unprotected and isolated on the western frontier. They asked for protection against Indian attacks and raids on their plantations and petitioned for an armed troop. Berkeley denied and then outlawed all such petitions. Bacon, along with two other landowners decided to raise their own army and fight the Indians themselves. He began a march to track hostile Indians, killing friendly Indians by mistake. According to Rothbard (2011), when the three founders, Bacon, Byrd, and Crew, and their friends ran into some militiamen at Jordan s Point, the militia decided to mutiny and follow Bacon. • 7. Food And Cultural Suppropriation In The Culture Of Food Mahatma Gandhi once said, there are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread . Food is one of the many things that is appreciated and loved by everyone all around the world. Each geographical region of the world most likely has its own type of food or some kind of variation to it which eventually adds up to a lot of cuisines. The larger the number of regions, the larger the number of cuisines. So, one must be thinking, how does food relate to cultural appropriation? What is the relationship between them? In depth, everyone eats or at least tries a dish that is not particularly from his or her culture which is completely okay but it becomes a problem when one steals an aspect or a factor from a culture and try to change it to make it theirs. This is where the term cultural appropriation comes in play. This issue is big these days, and also the most discussed about because culture is very important and sensitive to many. Cultural appropriation is the utilization of an element from one culture by the people from another culture without having a permission granted. The elements could be a culture s traditions, food, style, fashion, beliefs and such. For example, restaurants or food chains using the Indian term chai in their drink names. Chai means tea but there are so many drinks out there that are named Chai Tea Latte or Chai Tea Mocha which makes zero sense because chai is tea. As an Indian myself, I really do not ... The Death With Dignity Act Death with Dignity Act Yellowing of the skin, hollowed in eyes, hair loss, and habitual wheezing or shortness of breath is only an insubstantial glimpse of the rancid face of leukemia. It is estimated that around 1 million people in the United States are living with a terminal illness (Pan 2). Some people may feel hopeless, like their life is now meaningless due to their circumstance, and the hand they have been dealt. When something of this magnitude occurs in ones life, doctor assisted suicide should never be an option, or even a thought on their mind. Human euthanasia is ethically, and morally wrong. It violates the principles of medical ethics that doctors take, it costs less to keep a person alive, rather than die, and if this medication falls into the wrong hands, a murder could come about from it. In the 19th century, there was an uprising in anesthesia use (Emanuel 1). In 1846, Dr. John Warren, Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School, author of Etherization; with surgical remarks, led the first operation using ether anesthesia. He noted that ether might be used in mitigating the agonies of death (Robinson 1). Doctors as well as physicians became more competent in the use of morphine injections for pain relief during the times of the Civil War, and this practice shortly became known on a wide scale (SC 1). • 10. Edgar Allan Poe Quotes About Death Mors ultima linea rerum est ( Latin Quotes about Death ): this quote from Horace perfectly sums up the theme of the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe suffered much loss throughout his life first with the loss of his mother, then his adopted mother, his first love, and finally his wife thus explaining why Poe commonly uses death as a theme in his works. Poe also commonly writes about women and youth, with the presence of death bringing a depressing and ominous undertone. Death exists in the happiest and saddest of subjects. The reader then begins to also see death as barrier and can feel the same sadness that the narrator himself is feeling. The bird brings about mixed feelings within the narrator. At first, the bird amuses the narrator , but quickly frustrates him when the bird s only responds nevermore : the narrator wonders if he will reencounter [Lenore] in the afterlife, and finally if the narrator himself will ever find peace in her absence. To each of these questions the bird s consistent reply infuriates him at the same time as it deepens his sense of loss (Magistrale 39 40). This questioning of life after death can make a reader feel quite crestfallen as it can make him or her wonder whether or not he or she will see a loved one again. • 11. The Covenant Of A Covenant Covenant is a very important idea in both the Old and New Testament. Important covenants revealed through both Testaments are the Sinai covenant and the crucifixion of Jesus, the new covenant. A covenant includes five fundamental features which help strengthen the notion that a covenant is an eternal promise with God, not a relationship that can be broken resulting in legal repercussions. Firstly, the origin of a covenant will be discussed. Secondly, this paper will shed light on the traits of a covenant. Lastly, this paper will explain how a covenant differs from a contract. Firstly, the theme of a covenant originates in both Judaism and Christianity. The major covenant in Judaism is the Sinai covenant which Yahweh gave to Moses and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of a covenant also originates in the Christian faith, where Jesus is seen as the new covenant in the New Testament. According to Britannica, [t]he cup of wine at the last supper of Jesus and his disciples is identified in all New Testament sources as the (new) covenant by Jesus himself ( par27). The oath taker and the sacrificial victim are important in covenant traditions. The oath taker is symbolized by the body and bread of Jesus while the sacrificial victims are those who do not fulfill the covenant. The crucifixion of Jesus reveals the new covenant where God declared that he will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and that [He] will write the law in their minds and write it on their hearts. [He] will be their God, and they will be [His] people, (English Standard Version, Jeremiah 31:32 33). By inscribing the law in their hearts and minds, his people will not forget their promise to Him. In summary, God instilled a covenant in both Judaism and Christianity in which the Sinai covenant can be seen as the original covenant and Jesus symbolizing the new covenant. • 12. The View Of Love In Romeo And Juliet Love is one of the only things that nearly every human being is capable of feeling. Like many aspects of human lives, views on love differ from every individual. Nowhere is this more present than in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, where Romeo, a member of the Montague family, and Juliet, a member of the rivaling Capulet family, find themselves in the circumstances of falling madly in love with each other. Through this it is made unmistakable that contradictory to how Romeo and Juliet perceive love, the nurse views it solely as a means of achieving pleasure. When giving advice to Juliet about a relationship, the nurse tells Juliet to Go, girl, seek happy nights to happy days (1.3.106). The nurse s use of raunchy and borderline sexual language (for the time) when referring to love demonstrates that she finds love to be a way of attaining pleasure. Similarly, when the nurse also attempts to explain to Juliet that she can still find love in Paris, her attitude toward love is shown: I think you are happy in this second match, For it excels your first. Or if it did not, Your first is dead, or twere as good he were, As living here and you no use of him (3.5.222 225). By focusing on the aspects of finding happiness rather than focusing on true and genuine emotion in Juliet s possible relationships, even in the most dire of situations, the nurse is unmistakably demonstrated to consider love as being a method of gaining satisfaction. • 18. Prostitutes In Ancient Athens Prostitutes in Ancient Athens Works Cited Missing Ancient Athens was a highly polarized society in which citizenship meant everything. Citizenship permitted individuals to not only participate in the democratic government but also gave them access to all the rights and splendors of the city. A citizen controlled influence over slaves, foreigners and most importantly women. Athenian women were relegated to the status of child bearers and keepers of the household. There was no room for personal expression or freedom and the strict moral code in many cases restricted these women from even leaving their homes. There was a select group of women however who overcame these obstacles to achieve greater sexual, economical, and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is evident in the way that women were referred to in conversation as they were called aste (city woman) rather than the feminine form of citizen which was politis (Just 1989: 21). Furthermore, women s subservient status is also demonstrated in the common practice during formal speech of specifying women by their relationships with men. Wives remained in the house for the majority of the time and did not perform strenuous activity as the procreation of a son was all important (http//:www.perseus.tufts.edu/classes/JKp.html). Another example of the inferior status of women is the fact that adultery was a more serious crime than rape as it was an offense to the husband and put into question the legitimacy of his sons (http://www.ucd.ie/~classics/94/Arkins94.html). Perhaps the best description of the way in which wives were viewed by Athenian men is given by Ischomachos in the Oikonomikos: Why, what knowledge could she have had, Sokrates, when I took her? She was not yet fifteen years old when she came to me, and up until that time she had lived under the utmost care, seeing as little as possible, hearing as little as possible, and saying as little as possible. If, when she came to me, she knew no more than how to turn out a cloak when given the wool and had only seen only how to the spinning had been given out to the maids, is that not as much as could be expected (Xenophon: 7.5). • 19. Social And Cultural Events In The 20th And 21st Century Education has been affected greatly by social and cultural events of the 20th and 21st centuries. Because education follows the moves of society, the need for new skills in life and in the workplace change and students can be career and college ready. This, however, has not always been the case. The first of two main cultural and social events focused on are the events that led up to the Brown vs. the Board of Education Supreme Court case, which resulted in the desegregation of schools. The second are the effects that the Great Recession had on the education system. In the 1940s the Civil Rights Movement began gaining strength and the country began moving slowly to desegregation. In 1947, in the face of much opposition, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player. When he traveled to the south he was denied access into hotels, restaurants, and other venues because of this race. Because Robinson was in the army the armed forces became desegregated in 1948 and eventually led to the elimination of segregated schools (Schwartz, 2003). During this era African American students were in separate but equal schools although many black schools suffered from poor facilities and a lack of funding and other amenities that were provided at white schools. Black students were often bussed great distances to attend school. In 1952, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) lawyers represented the case Brown vs. the Board of education. This case dealt with the right of a black child to attend an all white school close to her home instead of being bussed across town to the all black school. Initially, the ruling was in favor of the Board of Education, but the adverse effects of separate but equal schooling on the black community were clearly shown (Schwartz, 2003). African Americans were also held back by not having the right to vote. A literacy exam was required to be passed in order to vote. Because of their schooling restrictions, many African Americans were illiterate, which denied them of the right to vote. A workshop for the United Nations drew several community members and teachers from the south (Horton, Freire, 1990). One member who attended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Czech Republic And The Republic The Czech Republic is located nearly in the center of Europe and was recently known as Czechoslovakia. The Czech Republic is bordered by Slovakia, Germany, Poland, and Austria. The Czech Republic was a part of Czechoslovakia until 1993 when it split into both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. With it being a fairly new country, one would assume that it is struggling to catch up to society economically, this is simply untrue, because the Czech Republic is one of the most economically stable countries in Europe. The Czech Republic has been a member of the European Union since it joined in 2004. The Czech Republic is one of the most economically profitable countries inside the European Union. The Czech Republic is a smaller country, only being around 30,450 square miles big, a little less than half the size of New York state and roughly 22 times smaller than the state of Alaska. Although it is small, its location is very beneficial when it comes to importing and exporting. All of the bordering countries of the Czech Republic are members of the European Union, so they all share lower taxes on imports and exports as well as more economic freedom when trading amongst each other. Because of this, the barriers of entry to the Czech Republic are almost nonexistent. The recent history of the Czech Republic has been somewhat small being that it only became a country 22 years ago. LaSor notes that traditional views that Isaiah authored the entire book are held by very few scholars. More and more critics are accepting a two book theory with chapters 1 39 as book one and chapters 40 66 as book two. Moreover, there are further refinements resulting in three books, dividing chapters 40 66 into 40 55 (Deutero Isaiah) and 56 66 (Trito Isaiah). This mudflow flowed down the valley of the Lagunillas River for 40 miles. This time it spilled out of the river channel which reached an alluvial fan. This made the mudflow split into two branches; 1000 people were killed in the mudflows. In 1985, Nevado del Ruiz began to erupt; this one was the worst of all. Some may say the bike is nothing more than a plain old bike, but in this essay, I will discuss how and why the green bike symbolises more than a mere green bike. The focus will be on the significance of the bike, why it has been chosen to act as the metaphor, and how/why the director has chosen it to show that Wadjda is subversive. In the movie, there is a green bike Wadjda desperately wants, although it challenges the norms of her society. This means that for her to own it, in a sense, signifies breaking through the barrier of the Saudi Arabian expectations and entering freedom. Thus, making it a metaphor for freedom and equality. So essentially it is taking food, modifying food using a gene that solves an obstacle and putting it on the market for us to eat. Some of the advantages of GM foods are that they are better for the environment. GMOs are adapted in such a way that many plants don t require pesticides or other chemicals that impact on the earth. GMOs increase the flavour and longevity of the fruit. Another advantage which is probably in the best interest of society is that fact that it often decreases price of products and often becomes more affordable. Although research and testing is not cheap, once it is on the market the prices of your normal GM foods are substantially more affordable. With all the advantages comes the counter, disadvantage. GM foods often cause cross contamination where pollen from genetically modified foods are also contaminated. When GMOs are around other plants often the pollen can drift over to the wrong plants and create plants that have resistance to the conditions that were meant for the crops to be resistant to. Essentially GMOs potentially have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Catchers Helmet Case Study Catchers equipment for youth players has two important objectives. First, it needs to offer safe protection for the catcher. Second, it must fit securely so that the player can do their job. Here are some examples of excellent options for catchers equipment for youth ages The Catchers Helmet Standard catcher masks and skullcaps are no longer permitted in youth leagues. Younger catchers must wear the full hockey style helmet. When rating helmets you need to consider protection first and foremost, then visibility and comfort. The Easton M5 QwikFit™ blends quality with affordability. The QwikFit™ design was developed because young catchers always seemed to have trouble adjusting their catcher helmet. Now the catcher can use the simple click and pull mechanism to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Easton youth design corrected that problem. It adds dual density padding inside a hard shell helmet for the ultimate helmet. The M5 is finished with a hard steel facemask with an open face design so the catcher can see. The Catcher s Chest Protector Using the same idea behind the helmet, Easton also saw young catchers having problems safely clipping on their chest protector. Employing a similar quick connect idea, the Easton M5™ chest protector adds a simple quick clip and an adjustable strap. Easton added a plate inside the dual foam padding to add additional protection around the collarbone and in the throat area. Since the chest protector part of catchers equipment for youth players needs to fit securely, the over the shoulder quick adjustment is one of the most popular features for the smallest catchers. Catchers Shin Guards The lower leg on a catcher can take a beating. It is important that the shin guards remain securely in place, and have a hard shell backed by padding to deflect the impact. To accomplish this, the guard needs to have a good strap set up, in addition to full leg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Hidden Courage of a Boy The boy lay there next to his father keeping each other warm from the chilling atmosphere where they set camp. The air was so moist it turned the dirt into damp mud and the boy could feel his sleeping bag submerge into it. The intimidating glare of an owl examining him sent a tingle up his spine. The sounds of bugs chiming filled the ambience, killing the silence giving him a sense of security. He looked up at the twilight sky illuminated by the blinding shimmer of the full moon gleaming through the forest trees over him. Surrounding it was an array of glimmering stars prompting the sky alive. As his body grew accustomed to the environment, each natural attribute gave him comfort and allowed him to slowly fall into a deep sleep. The tickling sensation of heat bathing his face forced him to slowly open his eyes. The sun s golden rays stunned him blurring his vision as he quickly turned away. As his eyes adjusted, he was surprised to find the absence of his father. His heart started to pound and all the confidence and security that he had built up melted in the space of a few seconds. He jumped up flinging his sleeping bag on to the ground and looked around taking note of his surroundings. To him, it felt as if the trees were suddenly sent out to attack him like stealthy assassins gaining on him as they moved side to side from the winds steady breeze. The faint noise of bugs and animals chattering sounded like the grunt of a predator before it hunts its prey. A colossal cloud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Technology Shaped The Rhapsody. Queen s 1975 Classic ... Technology Shaped the Rhapsody Queen s 1975 classic Bohemian Rhapsody is extremely influenced by the recording technology used to create its sound and enhance its musical presentation. Multi tracking phrases and over dubbing instruments played a key role in the creation of the piece. The piece was revolutionary for the progressive rock musical period as maximised the use of recording technology at the time. This can be seen when compared to a contemporary classics of the time, Led Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven and Pink Floyd s Eclipse. The Acapella Introduction of Bohemian Rhapsody (refer to bars 1 4 in figure 1) began when lead singer, Freddie Mercury, created a chord progression consisting of Bb7, Cm7, F7. Figure 1: Bars 1 4 of Acapella Introduction Brian May, lead guitarist of Queen reported in BBC News that: [Freddie] came in and knew exactly what he wanted. [He] sang a guide vocal at the time, but he had all his harmonies written out, and it was really just a question of doing it. Luckily for Queen, they were able to stretch the recording industry to a place it had never been before. After creating chords, Freddie then worked on lyrics and vocal harmonies, dividing the vocals into Solo, Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Alto and Bass. Mercury used multi tracking techniques and a Guide Track Piano to record the various vocal parts. A Guide Track Piano is a Piano used to pre record a melodic guide for a vocalist to follow while recording vocals. Mercury recorded the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Essay On Lipid Based Delivery System In recent years, a great deal of interest has been focussed on lipid based carrier systems. The most popular approach is the incorporation of the active poorly water soluble component into inert lipid vehicles such as oils, surfactant dispersions, solid dispersions, solid lipid nanoparticles, emulsions, micro emulsions, Nano emulsions, self emulsifying formulations (SEF), micro/nanoemulsifying formulations, and liposomes. The essential component of activity by which a lipid formulation prompts enhanced bioavailability is typically avoidance of a slow dissolution process which constrains the bioavailability of hydrophobic drugs from solid dose frames (Shweta Gupta, 2013). Preferably the formulation allows the drug to remain in a dissolved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of the extensive potential that these lipid excipients offer, not very many lipids based Formulations have achieved the pharmaceutical commercial place. This might be because of the inadequate data with respect to the generally complex physical science of lipids and worries about figured drugs substance and physical stability. In addition to these concerns, the interaction of a lipid based formulation with the GI condition and its effect on drug absorption is also important. For example, edible lipids have been appeared to be extensively more productive enhancers of poorly soluble drug ingestion, as compared to nondigestible lipids (e.g., liquid paraffin). Unsaturated fat chain length of the lipid likewise impacts drug absorption. Both long and medium chain triglyceride oils with various degrees of saturation have been utilized for the design of self emulsifying formulations. 2. Surfactants: The self emulsifying properties require the incorporation of relatively large amounts of surfactant in the formulation in addition to the oily drug carrier vehicle. The surfactants may improve the affinity between lipids and intestinal membrane or increase the permeability of the intestinal membrane (Gershanik T, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Literary Devices In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Quoting Romeo and Juliet In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare portrays the inevitability of fate and futility of resisting one s identity. This is evident, first of all, when Romeo, after slaying Tybalt, says O, I am fortune s fool. This is an example of alliteration, which is a sound technique that relies not on repeated letters, but repeated sounds and is produced when a number of words with the same first consonant sound occur close together. Shakespeare uses this technique of alliteration to create rhythm and mood to the dialogue, as well as trying to engage the audience. Shakespeare also portrays this theme, when Romeo says Some consequence yet hanging in the stars/ shall bitterly begin his fearful fate/ with his nights revels. ... This is an example of a metaphor, which is closely related to a simile, the differences being that similes compare two things, whilst metaphors are phrases that are literally applied to another, using figure of speech. Shakespeare uses this technique of metaphors to express and convey how strong the rage that took over Romeo s self control was. Shakespeare also portrays this theme when Prince Escalus says See, what a scourge is laid upon your hate/That heavens finds means to kill your joys with love. This is an example of two techniques, using metaphors and imagery. Imagery is when figurative language is used to associate words to physical objects or features. Shakespeare uses the techniques of metaphors and imagery to associate the emotions of the Capulet s and Montague s losses, with the image of a scourge, or a whip. The imagery of the whip represents the fact that what they have done through the hatred that overtook their self control and reason, has been punished. These examples of metaphors and imagery confirm that William Shakespeare successfully represents the tyranny of the passions in overthrowing self control and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Privacy and Computer Technology Privacy and Computer Technology Today, the development of technology is spread all over the world and so are ethical issues. Because of the widespread, computer ethics are boiling down distinguishing what is good from what is wrong mentality. Everyone s view on computer ethics differ, however all should keep in mind the value of ethics when making decisions that are ethics based. The golden rules of computer ethics state that, one should do to one another what he/she thinks should be done to them and if at least quite a number of people obey the golden rule, then there would be no many issues concerning computer ethics as they are today. The computer ethics that surround us presently brought by software, and social networking sites have plagued the cyber world for many years. Software Issues Nowadays, most people in the organization are overlooking ethical use of software. By an organization purchasing any kind of software does not give privileges that they own the software, and therefore can use it anyhow. Organization should put in mind that they never own any software, but what they actually have is the license for using the software purchased. It is therefore a requisite for every organizations and small companies to accept the terms as well as the conditions that apply upon using software. Accepting the copyright terms guarantees people never to use the purchased software for anything else other than what is intended to be used for, hence no copies should be made ...
