The computer was first brought into existence in the late 1930 s using vacuum tubes to create the
sounds that are found in motion pictures today and since then; there has been a non stop growth in the
advancement of our technology and society. Growth can sometimes flourish so fast that it can be hard
to keep track of especially in the areas that it may be easily overlooked until it comes to be necessary,
such as the ethics. This new type of technological development brings ethical concerns upon us, just
how it brought a cultural awakening upon society. For every technological glass ceiling we have
broken through comes an endless cascading effect of technical development in any of the other areas.

And what are the ethics that go with computer use in our society today? There are many inquiries that
arise when looking at the relationship that exists between computers and ethics. But before we can
look at the role computers have with ethics, we first need to understand why it is extremely significant
to acknowledge this connection, along with the possible effects that may come about it if this
relationship is ignored or forgotten. Let s take a look at a unique instance which involves computers
and their association with ethics and social media, something almost everyone is a part of today. This
case revolves around a recent phone app, called Tinder, which has become popular for both males and
females in college campuses. The app allows males and females to log on through their Facebook
accounts, which allows for them to share their pictures, age, and mutual friends with others around
them. Then once one is registered on the app, a picture of the other sex pops up and they either swipe
away or like it, in which it then matches them up with that other person. So essentially this app is
dating app for young college students, where males and females have the potential to stalk and talk to
others of the opposite sex that live a certain radius from them, and maybe possibly actually meet and
date (very unlikely). Tinder is very similar to other dating apps, however it makes it a lot less
complicated for college students so that they are easily able

Eli Lilly Ranbaxy joint venture Essay
Executive Summary The Eli Lilly Ranbaxy joint venture allowed both Eli Lilly and Ranbaxy as
separate companies to grow and expand as one venture. The support and reliability that both
companies had with one another allowed for a strong business relationship to form which led to the
same business strategy vision and goals. This joint venture eliminated trade with other companies for
the same thing that one another could share to become one of the largest and most successful
pharmaceutical companies in the Indian market. The problem that Eli Lilly Ranbaxy was being
exposed to was a plateau of success with a joint venture and the thoughts of separating and selling

Eli Lilly was approached by a leading pharmaceutical firm in India to consider building a joint venture
together. Ranbaxy Laboratories began as a family business in the 1960 s, but with strong
entrepreneurial skills the company grew to become one of the largest manufacturers for bulk drugs
and generic drugs. The two companies considered pursuing a joint venture that would support on
another s products by supplying one other with ingredients to complete company products without
having to trade with other companies internationally. The JV would potentially lead both companies,
together to become a dominant force in the Indian market. In 1993 the two companies decided to build
a joint venture called Eli Lilly Ranbaxy JV that had a common business strategy and the intention to
focus on high ethical standards, technology, and innovation. The JV focused directly on the Indian
market since Ranbaxy had an existing relationship with the Indian Pharmaceutical Market they were
able to continue exploring potential clients and business relationships. Ranbaxy alone was a very well
known pharmaceutical company that had a large distribution network and was able to easily obtain
government approvals, licenses, distribution and supplies. The advantages to this joint venture are the
work ethic by both company s senior management teams as well as the previous relationships that

Age Related Design
Everyday more baby boomers are qualified to collect social security; some may think it is the core of
elderly livelihood today but this in a misconception. According to The United States Social Security
Administration, social security benefits only account for about 38% of income for the elderly. Often
times a social security check can make a significant impact for bare necessity bills, which leaves a lot
of money left for older consumers to spend. This paper will examine what universal and age related
design are, the advantages and disadvantages, and a universally designed product that can be marketed
to an age related market, such as older consumers. Universal design is a product, or setting, that can be

This targets and accommodates a specific age and an emerging group with plenty of disposable
income, the baby boomers. More and more baby boomers are joining the elderly population by retiring
and collecting social security, and by mid 21st century 27% will be 60 and older. Retirees do not just
sit on their money, they spend are consumers! We will see in increase of consumerism simply from a
numerical standpoint since there are so many of them. Age related design works if there is an adequate
market for it, so pretty much the larger the market, the larger chance of making money. Therefore the
baby boomers would be the superlative target for age related design. However, age related design
demands attention to detail and requires understanding the individual needs of the targeted consumers.
A foundation that would help would be empathetic modeling. This method places the designer in the
shoes of the consumer, allowing him or her to understand the feelings, aspirations and fears of said
target. Thoroughly examining the individual s needs, will lead to superior real world performance.
Another vital aspect of designing for the older population is to know the demographic. Knowing the
consumer s status, such as if they are independent, dependent, wealthy or healthy helps in deciding
quality, functionality and price of the product. However, an area to avoid would be labeling products
as for the elderly because your targeted group may not see themselves as elderly or

Merit 2 – Use different sociological perspectives to...
Merit 2 Use different sociological perspectives to discuss patterns and trends of health and illness in
two different social groups.
Distinction 1 Evaluate different sociological explanations for patterns and trends of health and illness
in two different social groups.
There are many different factors that can increase your chance of becoming ill and dying. The
different factors are social class, gender, age and ethnicity. The different social groups I will look at
are social class and gender. I am going to look into how these affect health; I will also explain the
pattern and trends. I am using gender because it fits in with the sociological perspective feminism and
social class fits in with Marxism.
Social class is how people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People that live in socially deprived areas are more likely to have mental illness, poverty, poor
education and low socioeconomic status. This is mainly because of the conditions they have been
brought up in and live in; if they lived in better conditions then they probably wouldn t have health
problems like this.
The Marxist approach proves that the least deprived individuals are the ruling class and the most
deprived individuals are in the working class. In the hierarchy Marxists believe that most of the
deprived people shouldn t have and education and they should be working in factories and other
environments like this. Marxist know that the most deprived individuals work in poor conditions that
could make them ill, people in the lower class don t earn as much as a higher class would. This is
because they are in the lower class and they live and work in poor conditions so they don t need to
earn as much.
Marxists believe that the most deprived people shouldn t have a good education and the least deprived
people need more of an education so they can get into the better jobs. Least deprived people have
more money and more control, Marxists are for this and would rather

File Sharing Essay

long.

Introduction
Most people have an idea of what file sharing is, but they?re not exactly sure why it?s such a big deal.
Some of them may even be aware of the fact that file sharing is punishable by law and carries a fine of
up to and including $20,000. Since the introduction of Napster in 1999, copyrighted music has been
illegally duplicated more than eight trillion times. In recent weeks, the Recording Industry Association
of America has filed more than three hundred lawsuits against American ... Show more content on

By the end of the year, sales of records, CDs and mini discs had dropped an additional thirty five
percent. Sales of walkmans, stereo CD players and personal CD players decreased by three percent
that year as well. On the other hand, sales of recordable CDs and MP3 players increased by a
staggering one hundred sixty nine percent in 1999, and the demand for these devices soon
overwhelmed the supply.
Why it?s a problem
It may or may not be obvious why illegal file sharing is a problem. Millions of people see nothing
wrong with downloading a song or two without paying for the download. It?s a problem because it
causes the price of albums to increase considerably for non file sharing consumers. The average music
loving American pays approximately from twenty two dollars to thirty dollars for each album he or
she purchases. This wasn?t the case in the years prior to Napster?s debut. The average American paid
from eighteen to twenty dollars for each album, with the exceptions of anthologies and double album
sets. It creates a problem for the file sharing user. Most people have morals, or appear to, and constant
stealing might compromise those morals, which ultimately leads to other forms of theft in some cases.
It causes a problem for the music industry because 1) the record companies lose money behind
slumping album sales 2) the ?people behind the scenes? at the

When a customer buys a bottle of Champagne she buys a bottle of good quality wine. She also pays
for the fact that the wine is exclusive, it is from the region of Champagne and that is something that
differentiates it from other sparkling wine. This is something the customer experiences as added value
to the product. However, this value does not count as much when the product becomes available to a
bigger number of customers. It looses its exclusiveness. When it comes to sparkling wine that is not
from Champagne the Spanish Cava and the Italian Prosecco have long been two popular varieties.
Today, in the UK, there is also a growing interest in sparkling wine from the United Kingdom
Target Segmentation
Market segmentation is the process of dividing a market into segments or groups that have identifiable
differences between them. For the wine industry, we will be using 4 bases of marketing segments
divide the UK population. The 4 classic marketing segments are geography, demography, psychograph
and behavioural.
Demographics wise, UK has ranked all the households in a country by disposable income, and
classified them into 10 deciles. Consumer reports have reported that the middle income deciles,
deciles 4,5 and 6, averaged around 29.6% of their income on alcoholic beverages and tobacco
(Euromonitor International, 2011). This target segment has an annual income ranging from £20,000 to
£30,000. Our marketing plan would be

How Democratic Is The American Constitution Essay
The question posed by both Madison and the Framers in the 85 Federalist Papers and Dahl in his book
How Democratic is the American Constitution? is how effective the Constitution is at promoting the
ideals of a democracy. For Dahl, there are several issues surrounding the Constitution, from its
drafting, to its ideology, to its relevance. By analyzing Dahl s critiques of the Constitution in terms of
the parallels that exist between factions and the two party system, the issue of unequal representation,
and the necessity for the Framers to compromise on their ideals to ratify the Constitution, Dahl
defined a clear argument based in his general disapproval for the Constitution. However, by
combining Dahl s critiques with potential rebuttals from the opinions and perspectives of Madison and
his fellow Federalists, it is evident that both Dahl and the Framers believed that if the constitution was
completely successful, then the lives of the American people would be enhanced. While Dahl believed
that the Constitution, ultimately, has not fully protected the rights of all persons, he, like the Framers,
focused on the particulars of government that must be improved such that the American life is
bettered. The Framer s notion of a republic, or democratic republic form of government, rested on the
necessity to limit the formation and success of factions. Yet, as Dahl argued, the irony of Madison s
aversions to factions is that, not long after the ratification of the

Significance Of The Back And The Future Trilogy
The Significance of the Back to the Future Trilogy
Earlier this month, actor Michael J. Fox tweeted Only off by a year, not bad. Congrats @Cubs. This is
so heavy. (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a prediction made in the 1989 film, Back to the
Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though the film was released
twenty seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to that, the tweet itself
garnered over eighteen thousand Twitter likes, showcasing that series relevance alive in today s
society.
The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now just
as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by
Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters. Supporting actors
include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, and Crispen Glover. The storyline follows Marty McFly
(Fox) as he travels through time in a Delorean that has been manipulated by his best friend, the kooky
scientist, Doc Brown (Lloyd). Throughout three films, Marty attempts to re align history and make it
back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the box office, making almost one billion dollars
worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667). In addition to the success it had when it was first
released, Back to the Future is still relatable to audiences today, many of which were born long after

Case Study Of Butler s Chocolates
Butler s Chocolates is an Irish, family owned company set up in the year 1932. It was founded by
Marion Butler, a pioneer who began creating her own luxury chocolates by hand in Lad Lane in
Dublin and named it Chez Nous Chocolates . Marion Butler was originally born in India but moved to
Ireland when she was very young where she set up this company and ran it until 1959. She then sold it
to Seamus Sorensen and the Sorensen family are still running this business to date. (About Us: Butlers
Chocolates, n.d.).
The company set up their first retail store in 1960 in the Grafton Arcade and their first Butler s
Chocolate café in 1998 on Wicklow Street in Dublin. The company rebranded in honour of Marion
Butler in 1984 and renamed the company Butlers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the business. They can spot different sales trends in the luxury chocolates. If a certain chocolate or
flavour is not selling they could make the decision to discontinue the particular sweet or start again
with a new recipe.
Transaction Processing Systems
Because Butlers Chocolates own many retail stores and cafes, the company would mainly go by the
point of sale concept which David Ingram describes as the place and time at which a transaction takes
place, whenever a buyer and seller come together for the purpose of conducting a transaction (Ingram,
n.d.). This would include when customers pay for their goods by cash over the counter straight into
cash registers or by card with credit card processors. Ingram explains how this point of sale comes
hand in hand with transaction processing systems (Ingram, n.d.). Butler s website provides customers
with a service where they have the ability to purchase goods online and have them delivered to their
home. This booking system is a real time processing system. When a customer buys a product off the
company online, they receive an email confirming their delivery when their package has been
dispatched and they can also track their order. They claim to make an effort to process

The Study of Motivation Essay
Literature Review
Motivation
MacIntyre et al. (2001) define motivation as an attribute of the individual describing the psychological
qualities underlying behavior with respect to a particular task (p. 463). The study of motivation as a
predictor of second language learning performance was initiated by Gardner and his Canadian
colleagues (1972).
According to Gardner and Lambert (1972), there are two kinds of motivation: integrative motivation,
referring to a holistic learning approach toward the speech and culture of the target language group,
and instrumental motivation, referring to language learning for more immediate or practical goals.
Intrinsic and extrinsic are the new classifications of motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the ... Show

Both types are important. A learner might learn an L2 well with an integrative motivation or with an
instrumental one, or indeed with both (Cook, 1991). . The level of identification with bilingual or
trilingual identity is also influenced by the learners attitudes toward the learning situation. These
attitudes refer to the individuals reactions to anything associated with the immediate context (e.g., the
course and the teaching environment) in which the language is taught (Gardner, 1985).All the men
show higher instrumental motivation towards foreign language learning than woman.
Instrumental motivation, also called rational, pragmatic and utilitarian, refers to the individual s desire
to acquire a second language in order to use it for operational purposes, to pass an examination,
acquire a job, or visit a foreign country (ibid). Rahman explains rational language learning as the
learning of a language in order to empower oneself by acquiring the potential to acquire employment
(2002). . It has been pointed out that Gardner s motivation theory includes an educational dimension
and that, the Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB), that he and his colleagues developed contains
several items focusing on the learner s evaluation of the teacher and classroom learning situation.
Gardner and MacIntyre (1991) themselves had noted later that the old characterization of motivation

Mr Nobody Character Analysis
Mr. Nobody is a fantasy/drama written by Jack Van Dormael also known as the director that associates
a lot of his films with characters who have mental disabilities or physical disabilities. The rated R film
that contained sexuality/nudity, strong language, and violent images was released in 2009. Mr.
Nobody was watched on Netflix by TV. It was a confusing movie at first, but is easy to catch on along
the way. The protagonist is named nemo, also known as the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars. He
is the last mortal human on earth to die and is being watched every second of his last moments like a
zoo animal by these weird, futuristic, and immortal humans. Mr. Nobody is trying to remember his
whole life step by step by the help of a man who has the Mike Tyson tattoo imprinted all over his face.
The story begins in the year of 2092. The whole film consisted of high key lighting and the futuristic
scenes looked a lot like what is described a limbo setting. The wide shots captured a colorful palette
setting similar to Wes Anderson childlike color palette . There was various flashbacks of nemo s
younger self and his many infinite possibilities and pathways he could ve taken. Dormael really
wanted the audience to analyze the character s physical appearance and study every pore upon their
face due to many face close up shots captured throughout the movie such as 7:39, 11:13, 17:16, 37:48,

The Consumption Of Wine By Imbibing Wine
Isn t it ironic that in Ancient Greece the consumption of wine was encouraged for promoting liberated
speech in intellectual social gatherings? We in the United States treat alcohol as a slow but deadly
poison that should be avoided. By imbibing wine in events known as symposiums, the Greek would
discuss intellectual ideas which lead to the acceleration of knowledge. In some cases, the symposia
weren t only for poetry and discussion, the symposiarch would hire woman for entertaining purposes.
The woman would play instruments, dance, or even engage in sexual encounters with the men

Anacreon would be an individual that could be celebrated in such a way. In short entertainment and

Given that entertainment isn t the sole purpose of symposium, the drinking cup (kylix) with a group of
youths and older men at the symposium displays the interaction between men. The drinking cup is
very unique, on the basis that no other piece within MFA displays a sizeable group of men of differing
ages. The piece epitomizes Greek sexuality; the people of Ancient Greece believed in the concept of
love between erastes (older men) and eromenos (younger men). The younger men would look up to
the older men as sexual and philosophical mentors. According to the museum label Older men and
beardless youth mingle and converse at a symposium (np); you can clearly identify that the older men
are pursuing the younger males. In Symposium Pausanius states Heavenly Aphrodite represents the
love between males because they find pleasure in what is by nature stronger and more intelligent
(833). In other words, only men had the capability to love one another intellectually, women were
inferior and didn t have the mental capacity to comprehend love. It s important to realize, the other

What Is Nonverbal Communication In American Culture
As the Middle East continues to be ravaged by war and extremist threats, over 1.2 million Pakistanis

Communication Elements While relating with this mother and her family, an understanding of their

Essay On Afro-Black Slavery
The South was in desperate need of workers in the time before the mid seventeenth century; however
their help arrived in the mid seventeenth century in the form of black workers. There once was an idea
that the Afro Black race was the only eligible people that should populate the system of slavery in
America. Afro Black slavery in the United States of America has been argued in two ways by
historians and researchers. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the two points that one side asking if
slavery was the result of white racism and the other side asking if white racism was a result of slavery.
The second point was rather or not white racism was a result of slavery. In the year of 1950, an
influential article was published by Oscar and Mary Handlin. Their article compared slavery to the
other ways of bondage, by discussing that what separated slavery from other ideals and ways of
service was that it was only limited to the African people, it was a permanent ordeal, and that it was
inherited from one generation to another. The Handlins believe that the backbone of slavery was

There were five performances at this To Go Show. All were amazing, but I will focus on just one for
this critique, I will be talking about my favorite performance. The first one was Conformity vs
Nonconformity (No comfort zone) By Deseree Hook in collaboration with Uriah Huffman. This dance
was about how everything you want lies behind a wall of fear. Power: The Contraction of visibility by
Meredith Yuhas with the dancers Taylor Dumdei, Rekha Letsinger, Ashley French, Naja Copeland,
Demery Trantham, Destiny Smith, Uriah Huffman, and Lydia Ray; This piece was about how people
are struggling to gain all the power, possibly about racism or at least has a bit of racial elements in it.
The next performance was a solo by Bronwyn McDaniel called Solidify, which was a beautiful
movement that had a purpose that I do not understand just yet. The last ... Show more content on

In this paragraph I will focus on Body, Action and Space of the dance. The dancer s body s movement
were sharp and consonant throughout the dance. The dancers action they were walking in the begging
and sliding to get the different faces to pop up. French decided to space out her dancers on a large
scale. The levels in this dance were from what I can remember mostly high levels because they were
all standing up. The general place of this dance was upstage. The relationship between the dancers
were at times connected but also at times alone.
The overall time and energy of the dance is what I will be discussing next. The time of the piece, it
seemed to have a certain pulse to start with. The beat of the music gave the dancers a pulse to listen
for to move positions. The overall energy of this dance was sharp and the weight was strength because
it was an impact and most of the dancers were pushing to been seen (not literally but usually). Lastly
the energy flow was bound because it was whoever the spot light was on is who held all the

The Graduate Scene Analysis
The camera singles out the fundamental character in numerous scenes, while different characters stay
out of main interest. Considering over the character s vast minutes in the film, it is possible to assume
that cinematography in the film The Graduate depends on selective focus. For instance, the associated
scene: Benjamin turns out to be exceptionally uneasy because Mrs. Robinson, the spouse of his dad s
partner, lets him know that she finds him very attractive and wants to indulge in an affair with him.
Because of the compelling camera work, sound and music, the emotional state of the primary
character is shown appropriately.
One more scene in the film which sets up the fundamental character is one of the last scenes:

Athenian Democracy and Divination Essay
Athenian Democracy and Divination
Divination was a prevalent feature in Archaic Greece, as it provided objective advice, to assist people
in making appropriate decisions in problematic predicaments. In certain situations its ambiguity
allowed decisions to be postponed, or blame to be assigned to others. Divination was also used to
explain matters that seemed unexplainable, such as crop failure or drought. This is illustrated in the
Homeric epics, which depicts numerous oracle interpreters, such as Calchas, consulting oracles on
domestic, as well as, military decisions. Divination was a guiding authority in ancient society.
However, during the fifth and fourth century BC, the democratic ... Show more content on

Furthermore, when the Athenians suggest to the Melians that they should become allies with them,
against the Spartans, the Melians state:
…We trust that the gods will give us fortune as good as yours… [3]
In contrast, the Athenians dismiss the protection of the gods, and state:
This kind of attitude is not going to be of much help to you in your absurd conquest for safety at the
moment .[4]
Thucydides portrays the Athenians in an arrogant light, which suggests that they will get their
comeuppance for such sacrilegious opinions. Furthermore, Thucydides also highlights the scientific
approach that the Athenians have towards their domination of the Peloponnese, suggesting that it is
the law of nature , that they should conquer as much as they can. The rise of freethinking, that the
democracy had established, had lead to the neglect of the gods. In comparison, Xerxes, in his conquest
to dominate Greece, complies with a dream that is sent from the gods, which indicates to him and
Artabanus that he should continue with the Persian wars.[5] Herodotus, writing in the early fifth
century, highlights the importance of following divination, whereas, Thucydides, writing in the later
fifth century, focuses on decisions made by the people.

If no other investor is convinced of the potential of the edocs business model, CRV will suffer
financial damage. First of all, CRV would need to come up with an additional $2M and the news about
this failed collaboration will also damage the edocs investment. Therefore, CRV will argue that it
needs some measure of compensation for such damages. In addition, CRV could argue that the idea
behind the syndication is to give the investment company (edocs) access to a diverse network and to
provide a stronger financial syndicate. So in fact, CRV has the best interest of the portfolio company
in mind. Edocs, on the other hand, will argue that CRV, based on the firm valuation, has proposed an
investment amount and that CRV should also be responsible for raising the funds. There is no
justifiable business reason for penalizing the founders if CRV is not successful in finding a syndicate
partner. The founders would not want to bear the risk and the costs of CRV not finding a co investor. It
is not likely that edocs will accept this warrant arrangement, especially since the VC market is
booming. The founders even have an offer for their company readily waiting for them back home.

On this humid and dusky night, with the trees whistling in the wind, the village of Sleepy Hollow
stood still. The silence of the town would consistently be interrupted by the loud echoes of disturbing
crows. The stillness invites the evils that lurk at night. Sitting atop a magnificent and graceful, yet

that is what he lurked about this town for. Once nightfall hit, the haunting of The Headless Horseman

The French Revolution Occurred During The Time Periods
The French Revolution occurred during the time periods 1787 to 1799 which shook France. Its climax
reached in 1789 when the ancien regime ended in France. The French Revolution was the most violent
and by far the most universally significant revolution compared to the rest. The initial cause of the
revolution was the social structure of the West. One social structure that was based on the holding of
all land by fees that resulted in the relation of the king to vassal was called the feudal system that
weakened step by step and had already disappeared in certain regions of Europe prior to the
revolution. The feudal system was characterized by homage, legal and military service of tenants, and
punishment. Wealthy commoners, also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rousseau was an anti philosophe, he took Montesquieu s theory a step further in which civilization
corrupts rather than nature and that big states are also corrupt, small states are best. During the time, as
France faced heavy expenditure that the wars had brought, the rulers had raised money by taxing the
nobles and clergy and the rulers were backed upon the enlightened despots. There are many causes
that could have contributed to the French Revolution like the peasants were aware of their situation
and were less willing to support the feudal system. The philosophes were well read throughout the
region and questioned many. The government was at the edge of bankruptcy due to their involvement
in the American Revolution because there was a refusal to pay taxes given by the Great Britain King
which ended with the rulers and privileged class become allies with the peasants and non privileged
class. There was many economic factors that started the French revolution also like: crop failures in
1788 and the population increasing. The French Monarchy was vanishing because it was unable to
adapt to the pressures brought onto it which also contributed to the start of the French Revolution. The
Great War lasted 1914 1918 that involved 28 nations around the world. It started with the
assassination of Franz Ferdinand and then Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. Due to an alliance,

Early Activities In Europe
The early activities in Europe are considered to be based on physical activity and mental intelligence
and to have existed before any organized sports, games or activities. Games have been a very
important part of the American society since the earliest days. Children played games throughout the
day to keep them occupied, and adults participated in games, sports, and other activities. There were
many different types of games, sports, and pastimes available to the people of all ages.
Children played games such as blind man s buff, also known as hoodman blind. This game required
the players to pick a player to be it . The player who was it had to cover their eyes with a hood that is

Archery was a big sport in this time. Archery came with an obvious military overtone, and it is later
called the national sport of medieval Europe. The weapon that most people chose to use was a
longbow, the weapon used in wars in Europe at this time, because it was easier and was quicker to
reload and shoot. There was also an extreme emphasis on hunting. Hunting requires a large amount of
physical activity for not only the hunters, but also the animals that they hunt with. The hunters
believed this sport to be a way to train for war. If there was no immediate war, hunting served as a
way for the military elite to show off. Hunting in a royal forest was reserved for only the king and
those people that he hand chose and deemed eligible to participate. The medieval people also
participated in winter games. Skating on frozen lakes was not uncommon for them. The skaters used

The Ways Dickens Creates Mystery and Suspense in The...
Describe the ways Dickens creates mystery and suspense in The
Signalman
The Signalman by Charles Dickens, also known as No1 Branchline , is part of the collection of short
railway stories that are included in
Mugby Junctions , published in 1866. These stories appear to have been written post the tragic
Staplehurst, Kent train crash, in which
Dickens was involved, but escaped unhurt. Following the accident,
Dickens suffered from what we would call today, Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. This may have contributed to the reflective and supernatural nature of The Signalman .
The story of The Signalman is a mysterious tale about a character that stumbles upon an isolated train
cutting and there meets the signalman in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Questions are raised about the recipient s identity~ is he the signalman?
Following the first line, he looks around to face the tunnel~ looked down the line . A natural response
to …below there would be to glance upwards. Again Dickens constitutes the inexplicable, building up
the tension and suspense.
The actions of the signalman are nondescript, his body language is unusual, and provokes the narrator
to heed that there was something remarkable in his manner . His figure is described as foreshortened
and shadowed which pronounces as sinister and uncanny. Whilst the narrator looks down on the steep
cutting he is steeped in the glow of an angry sunset , giving the influence that he is unable to see
things clearly? The angry sunset is an example of personification that
Dickens relates. However, it also evokes dispute about the narrator s state of mind. In a sunset he sees
anger~ is this normal? He is indeed of a petulant nature.
Almost immediately the landscape evolves into jeopardy as a vague vibration arouses and quickly
erupts into a violent pulsation and an oncoming rush . These effective adjectives that Dickens uses
assist the tension of the narrative. He also sustains mystery by withholding vital information involving
the sensations and what is causing them. An aspect of uncertainty arises. A significant lexical set of
speed is easily detected, for example, rapid , rush ,
skimming that convey peril and a feeling

Generally, I revere everything in life, it illustrates a clear explanation of whom I want to become in the
future. The grade 10 students were introduced to the MYP personal project and with this in mind, I
had many vital ideas executed, but confused to choose a product that contributes to my interests. I love
learning and discovering new things. After many cups of coffee, I obtained an idea or goal to create a
three dimensional foam architectural model of my dream house. My family built our own house in
India last year and for viewing the stages of building a house became one of my interest. I always
wondered how the workers/builders managed to get the house in perfect shape as the engineer
contemplated. For instance, how can a bunch of line sketches or drawings on a piece of paper
transform into a three dimensional figure on land; when both the engineer and construction worker
dont have any relationship in common. I have many questions that are still unanswered. Based on this
personal, I will build a model of my dream house as a (final) product. This personal project is
important because it will enhance my organizational skills, creativity and time management.
Throughout this project, I will create blueprints for both main/first floors and interior/exterior

She was walking back from shopping with her friend and took a shortcut back home. Not until 9
months later in August of 2001 was her body found. A man walking his dogs in Lindley Woods found
her body. Her body was in a shallow grave. Over her was a duvet cover that had a floral pattern. She
was wrapped in ten plastic green bags with twine wrapped around them to keep them together. She

arch way. There was either a plum or damson tree but Wiltshire was unable to say because no flowers
or fruit were on it. There were weeds everywhere as well. Due to all of the evidence she was able to
conclusively say that Leanne was there.
Conclusion:
In October of 2001 John Taylor was arrested for the murder of Leanne Tiernan due to the abundance
of evidence that was found in regards to her murder. Due to the study of the pollen they were able to
clearly say Leanne was at John Taylor s place for certain. John Taylor was later given 2 more life

ADR can also be defined as looking for substitute ways to solving cases other than the court. It is no
surprise that ADR has become a new trend in civil dispute resolution; in the early 2000s, ADR
techniques were being used more and more, as parties and lawyers and courts realized that these
techniques could often help them resolve legal disputes quickly and cheaply and more privately than
could conventional litigation. Moreover, many people preferred ADR approaches because they saw
these methods as being more creative and more focused on problem solving than litigation, which has
always been based on an adversarial model. Lawyers involed in the use of ADR,as a way of settling
cases have goals whichhave to be achieved;
1. improve a cordial relationship between industries
2. increase face to face discussions between stakeholders, leading to local solutions for local problems.
3. ensure efficient use of everyone s time and resources.
4.Resolve disputes without the cases reaching the court.

My Role As An Educator
Throughout this term, we have learned various models of teaching such as: Reggio Emilia,
Montessori, Waldorf, Forest, HighScope and Head Start. My role as an educator is to implement a
variety of learning strategies taught to me. As I learned about each models of teaching, I still hold my
bias towards the Reggio Emilia Approach, but I also like some aspect of the HighScope curriculum. In
my personal philosophy, I will talk about what I believe to be an image of a child and role of an
educator. For instance, I believe that every child is unique in their own individual way. They are
viewed as being naturally curious about the environment around them, are full of knowledge,
creativity and have potential that they want connect to the world around them by exploring freely.
Children learn best through playing and exploring the environment around them freely. There is
nothing better that to get acquainted with nature and exploring real life experiences. As an educator,
we have to recognize the child as a whole and base our curriculum according to their needs. For
example, setting up a rich environment where the child can explore, learn, and grown at his or her own
pace of developmental level. Thus, I agree with Reggio Emilia Approach, that children should be
given rights and opportunities to develop to their full potential. They view the child as beautiful,
powerful, competent, creative, curious, full of potential and ambitious desires that interested in

Shaping Colonial America Essay
Many different things affected the shaping of colonial America in the new world. Factors such as
colonialism, geography, and religion affected the way North America was formed and dictated how
other people look at colonial America. Colonialism affected America s demographic and also the ease
of forming colonies in the new world. Geography also played a roll in shaping the identity of America.
Geography affected where people settled based on the layout of rivers, ocean, and waterways. People
also settled in places where they could grow crops. Geography also attracted colonists. Finally,
religion affected the forming of colonial America. People were driven from England because of
religion. Also, religion affected where people settled down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Boston, which at that time was called Shawmut, was settled on a peninsula that jutted out into the bay.
People also settled along water for military reasons. Take for example, Jamestown, Virginia, which
was settled some 60 miles up the James River, on a peninsula. Here there was a good view up and
down the river, which made it easy to defend attacks by land or water. New Amsterdam, which is
present day New York, was another colony that settled on the waterfront for military reasons. New
Amsterdam settled on a island, which is present day Manhattan, with a good view in all directions.
This made it easy to defend. Even more colonies were settled along water in colonial America. In the
17th century, several European countries founded settlements along the St. Lawrence River. The
waterways were also a major reason why France and England originally came to North America. Two
dreams originally attracted France and England to North America; kingdoms rich with gold, and a
water route to Asia. All in all, rivers and oceans played a major role in the settling of America.
Without them, the United States would look much different today.
The ability to grow crops also helped shape the identity of America. The crops in America were able
to feed large numbers of people, which attracted colonists. (Eventually, these crops were introduced
worldwide, which was part of the reason the world s population quadrupled in the next three hundred
years.)

Descriptive Essay About South Boston
10. South Boston
Known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, South Boston is placed on a peninsula that
extends into the Boston Harbor. It is linked to the rest of the city through a narrow strip of land. Over
the years, this strip of land has been gradually widened through landfill.
For over a century, South Boston has been one of the most populated neighborhoods in the city. In the
mid 1800s, it was the third most populous section of Boston. Over the year, new residential
subdivisions have developed in the neighborhood. Each new subdivision has a unique character and
architectural style. Telegraph Hill and Dorchester Heights were both created in the middle of the 19th
century to house the city s growing population base.
Originally annexed by Boston in 1804, this neighborhood really started to thrive in the mid 19th
century when the Old Colony Railroad made reaching downtown Boston easy. Before long, it was a
center of industry with shipyards, iron foundries and machine shops popping up everywhere. Today,
industrial buildings can still be found on the northern side of the peninsula.
Modern South Boston has many long time residents as well as young professionals. With its easy
access to downtown, this area is popular among commuters. It boasts of a thriving nightlife scene and
open spaces. Miles of waterfront parks and beaches can be found at areas like L Street Beach, Carson
Beach, the Strandway and Pleasure Bay.

their lives in the service of their emperor to build a firm foundation for Japan to become a truly

For the leftist and liberals, the Rape of Nanking is a key symbol of cruel Japanese militarism. They
used the sympathy for civilian casualties to substantiate Article 9 of the constitution, which is essential
to avoid another Nanking Massacre and to prevent Japan from waging wars in the future, and they
viewed that the presence of Yasukuni proves the resurgence of Japanese militarism and the continual
existence of feudalism in modern Japanese society. However, the rightist conservative camp in Japan
is rising to prominence on a wave of patriotic assertiveness, and their influence is evident in the
rewriting of Japanese textbooks to deny imperial Japan s conquest in China. Therefore, in addition to
its militaristic history and ideology chasm between political camps, the symbolism of Yasukuni adds
external political pressure on Japanese government to re examine the articulation of its wartime past.
Not only does the Yasukuni controversy generated disapproval from Japan s Asian neighbors, it also
created domestic debate between the leftist and rightist political groups in Japan. In contrast to the

How Did Dorothy Hodgkin Contribute To Science
What is the legacy of Dorothy Hodgkin, both on the study of structure on an atomic scale and for
women in science?
By Ruqayyah Haq
I [Dorothy Hodgkin] was captured for life by chemistry and by crystals . Hodgkin was first exposed to
these two captivating topics at age 10, she was encouraged by a friend of her parents (Dr A.F. Joseph)
who gave her chemicals to analyse when she and her parents went to visit him. Her interest grew and
she went against the social gender norm, later attending chemistry classes with the boys at school.
Eventually this led to her choosing to study chemistry at the University of Oxford and after she went
on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Hodgkin evidently academically excelled in
science it was when she attended a special course in crystallography (a combination of maths, physics
and chemistry) where she was inspired to continue research in Xray Crystallography, the physical
science of x ray. In order to do this she moved to Oxford as a research fellow where she began her
independent research career in 1934.
Due to her motivation to understand Crystallography, Dr. Hodgkin was able to make important
discoveries in different areas of science. These discoveries have each made a positive change for
society:

She has made a positive change in society and has made many pivotal discoveries. She was a
remarkable, talented and honourable woman who deserves recognition and admiration especially from
those who feel as though they are disadvantaged in comparison to other people. In contrast, for
women in science she provides a platform of confidence. Being a woman who achieved so many great
things, she now has a legacy which she is remembered by and it s really quite remarkable how far she
came. Young women can use Dorothy Hodgkin as a role model and not only that, but a symbol of
perseverance. I know I

Martin Luther Motivation
Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer who is credited for sparking the
Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
Martin Luther was born into a world dominated by the Catholic Church, which held spiritual and
political authority over all the nations of Europe. Martin Luther vowed to become a monk and devote
his life to the Church s promise of salvation [saving a soul from hell]. After Martin Luther entered the
monastery, Luther became doubtful that the Church could offer him salvation. During a visit to Rome,
the center of the Catholic Church, he found corruption and a lack of spirituality. Luther began to
realize that many of the things he believed about the Church were not true. As time progressed, he
encountered more examples of his growing doubts in the Church.
In 1516, Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar and papal commissioner for indulgences, was sent to
Germany by the Roman Catholic Church to sell indulgences to raise money to rebuild St. Peter s
Basilica in Rome. Indulgences were pieces of paper issued by the Catholic Church that forgave sins so
one s soul could go to heaven instead of hell when they died. Indulgences implied that the rich could
buy their way into heaven while the poor could not if they were unable to pay for indulgences. Upon
hearing the news that Tetzel was preaching that people could be forgiven by paying for indulgences,
Luther was deeply troubled and irritated. In response to the sale of indulgences, on October 31, 1517,

Business Overview of Marriott Corporation
Harvard Business School
9 282 042
Rev. September 15, 1986
Marriott Corporation
The idea of repurchasing shares was no stranger to Bill Marriott by January 1980. Almost five million
shares of common stock had been repurchased on the open market by Marriott Corporation during
1979 at a total cost of $74 million and an average price of $15.16 in the belief that they were
undervalued a belief that still was not fully reflected in the market price. At $19 5/8, the stock was
selling at only six times cash flow per share; and its price/earnings ratio of nine was a far cry from
historical multiples as high as fifty times as recently as 1973. Its low price seemed to offer once again
an obvious opportunity to benefit shareholders. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1980, more than 23,000 rooms were offered through 55 hotels and resorts located primarily in the
U.S. Approximately 70% of company operated rooms were owned by outside investors and managed
by Marriott under agreements averaging 70 years in length. These management agreements
contributed approximately $40 million to operating profits in 1979 profits that tended to rise with
inflation. Contract Food Service (32% of sales) Marriott operated almost 300 contract food units,
providing a wide range of food service capabilities to a variety of clients. It was the world s leading
supplier of catering services to airlines, with 62 flight kitchens serving domestic and international air
travelers. The Food Service Management Division also managed restaurants, cafeterias, conference
centers and other facilities for over 200 clients, including business, health care, and educational
institutions. Restaurants (25% of sales) Marriott s Restaurant Group consisted of 476 company owned
units offering a variety of popularly priced food in 46 states. Roy Rogers fast food restaurants and Big
Boy coffee shops accounted for 92% of the total units. Theme Parks and Cruise Ships (8% of sales)

The Development Of Childhood Development
Arguably, the most vital and significantly influential time in the development of a person s being is
during their childhood years.
Childhood development is the organic, emotional and mental changes that take place from birth, in
progression to a more independent existence (Kail, 2011).
The importance of this period is premised upon the notion that these first few years from birth , are
instrumentally irreplaceable in introducing a child to the first steps of developing into an independent
individual, as well as commencing the length of developmental milestones that are to follow.
Foundations in trust, security and stability are all constructed in these crucial years, and nerve
connections established now will last a lifetime. Jean Piaget, a developmental psychologist who
conducted extensive research in the field of childhood development, identified four stages in his
theory of cognitive development, the first of which takes place entirely in the first two years of a child
s life and is known as the sensorimotor stage, where the child learns about their world through
movement and use of their five senses. This highlights the significance of this stage. Consequently,
any factor that inhibits the provision of the full, ideal nurturing environment , both internally and
externally of the child, can prevent the child from flourishing in the three domains of child
development socially, physically and cognitively and have a fundamentally detrimental impact on the
child s

Jane Yolen Cinderella
Jane Yolen discusses the variations in Cinderella throughout history in America s Cinderella Yolen
began a career in publications as an editor and later became a professional writer, winning numerous
awards and publishing over seventy novels. Yolen observes that the European Cinderella and the
Asian Cinderella possess more strength than the helpless modern Cinderella. She attributes this
evolution to cultural incorporations and mass market s reproductions of the tale. American
interpretations of Cinderella result in a lasting change to a dependent heroine. Yolen reveals many
people are familiar with the changed Cinderella and not the former Cinderella. In Jane Yolen s essay,
America s Cinderella , she denounces the debasement of women in today s society by comparing the
past Cinderella to modern Cinderella, characterizing Cinderella as reliant, and criticizing the example
of Walt Disney s Cinderella.
In America s Cinderella , Jane Yolen proclaims that women are demeaned and belittled through the ...

She depicts a contemporary portrayal of Cinderella, contending that in ...Walt Disney s Cinderella...
she is a sorry excuse for a heroine, pitiable and useless, (329 para 27) in order to provide a current
illustration. In her description, Yolen provides an example of a modern rendition of Cinderella,
forming an evaluation. Yolen criticizes the disempowerment of women through the model of
Cinderella. Yolen utilizes denouncing words in her statement to provide her opposition to the delicate
and helpless version of Cinderella. The creation of a useless Cinderella reflects how modern society
views women. Women are degraded because the example of a modern Cinderella does not have
qualities of a heroine, including productiveness. Yolen determines women are lowered in today s
society through Walt Disney s portrayal of Cinderella as a helpless

The Gang Member Of The Eight Tray Criminal Hoover Essay
Frank Gottie is one of the most well known gang member of The Eight Tray Criminal Hoover in
Memphis. Gottie believes that gangs are becoming to spin out of control, that it needs to be a solution
to gang activity. On July 10, 2016 Gottie says I ain t never seen heaven before, but it was like a
Memphis heaven everybody was on one accord , if the gangs could be on the same page for Black
Lives Matter (Jones and Fretland, 2016) . Why can t it happen for the youth? Ar tavius Brown was 18
years old and joined a gang called the Pirus the Blood Alliance. Brown joined gang activity in South
Memphis because he saw people with the cars, with the money (Goggans, 2014). Brown was put with
the ramifications of having a gun shoot out at Central High school, but the judge saw something within
Brown and gave him a second chance.
Why are these stories relevant? These stories are relevant to the gang problem because if a gang
member, Frank Gottie, sees that the gang problem in Memphis has to stop then it should be addressed.
The community should want a change so the generation in Memphis doesn t fall into the typical
stereotypes, they should want more for the future youth to come. Everyone(the youth) won t have that
second chance like the Memphian Ar tavius Brown, all the youth won t have that judge that will see
the better side of the situation. The community needs to get more involved with the youth, their kids,
and family; so the gang problem won t become worse than it is becoming.

The computer was first brought into existence in the late 1930 s using vacuum tubes to create the sounds that are found in motion pictures today and since then; there has been a non stop growth in the advancement of our technology and society. Growth can sometimes flourish so fast that it can be hard to keep track of especially in the areas that it may be easily overlooked until it comes to be necessary, such as the ethics. This new type of technological development brings ethical concerns upon us, just how it brought a cultural awakening upon society. For every technological glass ceiling we have broken through comes an endless cascading effect of technical development in any of the other areas. When scientists first discovered the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And what are the ethics that go with computer use in our society today? There are many inquiries that arise when looking at the relationship that exists between computers and ethics. But before we can look at the role computers have with ethics, we first need to understand why it is extremely significant to acknowledge this connection, along with the possible effects that may come about it if this relationship is ignored or forgotten. Let s take a look at a unique instance which involves computers and their association with ethics and social media, something almost everyone is a part of today. This case revolves around a recent phone app, called Tinder, which has become popular for both males and females in college campuses. The app allows males and females to log on through their Facebook accounts, which allows for them to share their pictures, age, and mutual friends with others around them. Then once one is registered on the app, a picture of the other sex pops up and they either swipe away or like it, in which it then matches them up with that other person. So essentially this app is dating app for young college students, where males and females have the potential to stalk and talk to others of the opposite sex that live a certain radius from them, and maybe possibly actually meet and date (very unlikely). Tinder is very similar to other dating apps, however it makes it a lot less complicated for college students so that they are easily able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The support and reliability that both companies had with one another allowed for a strong business relationship to form which led to the same business strategy vision and goals. This joint venture eliminated trade with other companies for the same thing that one another could share to become one of the largest and most successful pharmaceutical companies in the Indian market. This targets and accommodates a specific age and an emerging group with plenty of disposable income, the baby boomers. More and more baby boomers are joining the elderly population by retiring and collecting social security, and by mid 21st century 27% will be 60 and older. Retirees do not just sit on their money, they spend are consumers! We will see in increase of consumerism simply from a numerical standpoint since there are so many of them. Age related design works if there is an adequate market for it, so pretty much the larger the market, the larger chance of making money. Therefore the baby boomers would be the superlative target for age related design. However, age related design demands attention to detail and requires understanding the individual needs of the targeted consumers. A foundation that would help would be empathetic modeling. This method places the designer in the shoes of the consumer, allowing him or her to understand the feelings, aspirations and fears of said target. Thoroughly examining the individual s needs, will lead to superior real world performance. Another vital aspect of designing for the older population is to know the demographic. Knowing the consumer s status, such as if they are independent, dependent, wealthy or healthy helps in deciding quality, functionality and price of the product. However, an area to avoid would be labeling products as for the elderly because your targeted group may not see themselves as elderly or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sales of walkmans, stereo CD players and personal CD players decreased by three percent that year as well. On the other hand, sales of recordable CDs and MP3 players increased by a staggering one hundred sixty nine percent in 1999, and the demand for these devices soon overwhelmed the supply. Why it?s a problem It may or may not be obvious why illegal file sharing is a problem. Millions of people see nothing wrong with downloading a song or two without paying for the download. It?s a problem because it causes the price of albums to increase considerably for non file sharing consumers. The average music loving American pays approximately from twenty two dollars to thirty dollars for each album he or she purchases. This wasn?t the case in the years prior to Napster?s debut. • 11. How Democratic Is The American Constitution Essay The question posed by both Madison and the Framers in the 85 Federalist Papers and Dahl in his book How Democratic is the American Constitution? is how effective the Constitution is at promoting the ideals of a democracy. For Dahl, there are several issues surrounding the Constitution, from its drafting, to its ideology, to its relevance. By analyzing Dahl s critiques of the Constitution in terms of the parallels that exist between factions and the two party system, the issue of unequal representation, and the necessity for the Framers to compromise on their ideals to ratify the Constitution, Dahl defined a clear argument based in his general disapproval for the Constitution. However, by combining Dahl s critiques with potential rebuttals from the opinions and perspectives of Madison and his fellow Federalists, it is evident that both Dahl and the Framers believed that if the constitution was completely successful, then the lives of the American people would be enhanced. While Dahl believed that the Constitution, ultimately, has not fully protected the rights of all persons, he, like the Framers, focused on the particulars of government that must be improved such that the American life is bettered. The Framer s notion of a republic, or democratic republic form of government, rested on the necessity to limit the formation and success of factions. Congrats @Cubs. This is so heavy. (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a prediction made in the 1989 film, Back to the Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though the film was released twenty seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to that, the tweet itself garnered over eighteen thousand Twitter likes, showcasing that series relevance alive in today s society. The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now just as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters. Supporting actors include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, and Crispen Glover. The storyline follows Marty McFly (Fox) as he travels through time in a Delorean that has been manipulated by his best friend, the kooky scientist, Doc Brown (Lloyd). Throughout three films, Marty attempts to re align history and make it back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the box office, making almost one billion dollars worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667). • 14. The Study of Motivation Essay Literature Review Motivation MacIntyre et al. (2001) define motivation as an attribute of the individual describing the psychological qualities underlying behavior with respect to a particular task (p. 463). The study of motivation as a predictor of second language learning performance was initiated by Gardner and his Canadian colleagues (1972). According to Gardner and Lambert (1972), there are two kinds of motivation: integrative motivation, referring to a holistic learning approach toward the speech and culture of the target language group, and instrumental motivation, referring to language learning for more immediate or practical goals. Intrinsic and extrinsic are the new classifications of motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both types are important. A learner might learn an L2 well with an integrative motivation or with an instrumental one, or indeed with both (Cook, 1991). . The level of identification with bilingual or trilingual identity is also influenced by the learners attitudes toward the learning situation. These attitudes refer to the individuals reactions to anything associated with the immediate context (e.g., the course and the teaching environment) in which the language is taught (Gardner, 1985).All the men show higher instrumental motivation towards foreign language learning than woman. Instrumental motivation, also called rational, pragmatic and utilitarian, refers to the individual s desire to acquire a second language in order to use it for operational purposes, to pass an examination, acquire a job, or visit a foreign country (ibid). Rahman explains rational language learning as the learning of a language in order to empower oneself by acquiring the potential to acquire employment (2002). . It has been pointed out that Gardner s motivation theory includes an educational dimension and that, the Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB), that he and his colleagues developed contains several items focusing on the learner s evaluation of the teacher and classroom learning situation. Mr Nobody Character Analysis Mr. Nobody is a fantasy/drama written by Jack Van Dormael also known as the director that associates a lot of his films with characters who have mental disabilities or physical disabilities. The rated R film that contained sexuality/nudity, strong language, and violent images was released in 2009. Mr. Nobody was watched on Netflix by TV. It was a confusing movie at first, but is easy to catch on along the way. The protagonist is named nemo, also known as the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars. He is the last mortal human on earth to die and is being watched every second of his last moments like a zoo animal by these weird, futuristic, and immortal humans. Mr. Nobody is trying to remember his whole life step by step by the help of a man who has the Mike Tyson tattoo imprinted all over his face. The story begins in the year of 2092. The whole film consisted of high key lighting and the futuristic scenes looked a lot like what is described a limbo setting. The wide shots captured a colorful palette setting similar to Wes Anderson childlike color palette . There was various flashbacks of nemo s younger self and his many infinite possibilities and pathways he could ve taken. Dormael really wanted the audience to analyze the character s physical appearance and study every pore upon their face due to many face close up shots captured throughout the movie such as 7:39, 11:13, 17:16, 37:48, 54:14, 1:28:57, and counting. Colonialism affected America s demographic and also the ease of forming colonies in the new world. Geography also played a roll in shaping the identity of America. Geography affected where people settled based on the layout of rivers, ocean, and waterways. People also settled in places where they could grow crops. Geography also attracted colonists. Finally, religion affected the forming of colonial America. People were driven from England because of religion. Also, religion affected where people settled down. ... Take for example, Jamestown, Virginia, which was settled some 60 miles up the James River, on a peninsula. Here there was a good view up and down the river, which made it easy to defend attacks by land or water. New Amsterdam, which is present day New York, was another colony that settled on the waterfront for military reasons. New Amsterdam settled on a island, which is present day Manhattan, with a good view in all directions. This made it easy to defend. Even more colonies were settled along water in colonial America. In the 17th century, several European countries founded settlements along the St. Lawrence River. The waterways were also a major reason why France and England originally came to North America. Two dreams originally attracted France and England to North America; kingdoms rich with gold, and a water route to Asia. All in all, rivers and oceans played a major role in the settling of America. Without them, the United States would look much different today. The ability to grow crops also helped shape the identity of America. The crops in America were able to feed large numbers of people, which attracted colonists. (Eventually, these crops were introduced worldwide, which was part of the reason the world s population quadrupled in the next three hundred years.) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Descriptive Essay About South Boston 10. South Boston Known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, South Boston is placed on a peninsula that extends into the Boston Harbor. It is linked to the rest of the city through a narrow strip of land. Over the years, this strip of land has been gradually widened through landfill. For over a century, South Boston has been one of the most populated neighborhoods in the city. In the mid 1800s, it was the third most populous section of Boston. Over the year, new residential subdivisions have developed in the neighborhood. Each new subdivision has a unique character and architectural style. Telegraph Hill and Dorchester Heights were both created in the middle of the 19th century to house the city s growing population base. Originally annexed by Boston in 1804, this neighborhood really started to thrive in the mid 19th century when the Old Colony Railroad made reaching downtown Boston easy. Before long, it was a center of industry with shipyards, iron foundries and machine shops popping up everywhere. Today, industrial buildings can still be found on the northern side of the peninsula. Modern South Boston has many long time residents as well as young professionals. With its easy access to downtown, this area is popular among commuters. It boasts of a thriving nightlife scene and open spaces. Miles of waterfront parks and beaches can be found at areas like L Street Beach, Carson Beach, the Strandway and Pleasure Bay. • 38. The Yasukuni Shrine and the Rise of Japan The Yasukuni Shrine and the Rise of Japan s New Nationalism The Yasukuni Shrine is a Shinto shrine established in 1869 in Tokyo. It was constructed in order to honor and worship the soldiers who have died for their country in the Boshin Civil War that brought about the Meiji restoration and sacrificed their lives in the service of their emperor to build a firm foundation for Japan to become a truly peaceful country. For some Asian countries such as China and South Korea, which had been victims under Japanese imperialism and aggression in the first half of the 20th century, the shrine was built to commemorate Japanese war criminals in the World War II, and it has become a blatant symbol for Japanese wartime militarism from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the leftist and liberals, the Rape of Nanking is a key symbol of cruel Japanese militarism. They used the sympathy for civilian casualties to substantiate Article 9 of the constitution, which is essential to avoid another Nanking Massacre and to prevent Japan from waging wars in the future, and they viewed that the presence of Yasukuni proves the resurgence of Japanese militarism and the continual existence of feudalism in modern Japanese society. However, the rightist conservative camp in Japan is rising to prominence on a wave of patriotic assertiveness, and their influence is evident in the rewriting of Japanese textbooks to deny imperial Japan s conquest in China. Therefore, in addition to its militaristic history and ideology chasm between political camps, the symbolism of Yasukuni adds external political pressure on Japanese government to re examine the articulation of its wartime past. Not only does the Yasukuni controversy generated disapproval from Japan s Asian neighbors, it also created domestic debate between the leftist and rightist political groups in Japan. In contrast to the Japanese leftist, the Chinese, and the Korean, the prime minister s shrine visits are supported by right wing nationalists, who form a significant core component of the support base of the Liberal Democratic Party and dominates ... • 43. How Did Dorothy Hodgkin Contribute To Science What is the legacy of Dorothy Hodgkin, both on the study of structure on an atomic scale and for women in science? By Ruqayyah Haq I [Dorothy Hodgkin] was captured for life by chemistry and by crystals . Hodgkin was first exposed to these two captivating topics at age 10, she was encouraged by a friend of her parents (Dr A.F. Joseph) who gave her chemicals to analyse when she and her parents went to visit him. Her interest grew and she went against the social gender norm, later attending chemistry classes with the boys at school. Eventually this led to her choosing to study chemistry at the University of Oxford and after she went on to complete a PhD at the University of Cambridge. Hodgkin evidently academically excelled in science it was when she attended a special course in crystallography (a combination of maths, physics and chemistry) where she was inspired to continue research in Xray Crystallography, the physical science of x ray. In order to do this she moved to Oxford as a research fellow where she began her independent research career in 1934. Due to her motivation to understand Crystallography, Dr. Hodgkin was able to make important discoveries in different areas of science. • 44. Martin Luther Motivation Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer who is credited for sparking the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Martin Luther was born into a world dominated by the Catholic Church, which held spiritual and political authority over all the nations of Europe. Martin Luther vowed to become a monk and devote his life to the Church s promise of salvation [saving a soul from hell]. After Martin Luther entered the monastery, Luther became doubtful that the Church could offer him salvation. During a visit to Rome, the center of the Catholic Church, he found corruption and a lack of spirituality. Luther began to realize that many of the things he believed about the Church were not true. As time progressed, he encountered more examples of his growing doubts in the Church. In 1516, Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar and papal commissioner for indulgences, was sent to Germany by the Roman Catholic Church to sell indulgences to raise money to rebuild St. Peter s Basilica in Rome. Indulgences were pieces of paper issued by the Catholic Church that forgave sins so one s soul could go to heaven instead of hell when they died. Indulgences implied that the rich could buy their way into heaven while the poor could not if they were unable to pay for indulgences. Upon hearing the news that Tetzel was preaching that people could be forgiven by paying for indulgences, Luther was deeply troubled and irritated. In response to the sale of indulgences, on October 31, 1517, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

September 15, 1986 Marriott Corporation The idea of repurchasing shares was no stranger to Bill Marriott by January 1980. Almost five million shares of common stock had been repurchased on the open market by Marriott Corporation during 1979 at a total cost of $74 million and an average price of $15.16 in the belief that they were undervalued a belief that still was not fully reflected in the market price. At $19 5/8, the stock was selling at only six times cash flow per share; and its price/earnings ratio of nine was a far cry from historical multiples as high as fifty times as recently as 1973. • 46. The Development Of Childhood Development Arguably, the most vital and significantly influential time in the development of a person s being is during their childhood years. Childhood development is the organic, emotional and mental changes that take place from birth, in progression to a more independent existence (Kail, 2011). The importance of this period is premised upon the notion that these first few years from birth , are instrumentally irreplaceable in introducing a child to the first steps of developing into an independent individual, as well as commencing the length of developmental milestones that are to follow. Foundations in trust, security and stability are all constructed in these crucial years, and nerve connections established now will last a lifetime. Jean Piaget, a developmental psychologist who conducted extensive research in the field of childhood development, identified four stages in his theory of cognitive development, the first of which takes place entirely in the first two years of a child s life and is known as the sensorimotor stage, where the child learns about their world through movement and use of their five senses. This highlights the significance of this stage. Consequently, any factor that inhibits the provision of the full, ideal nurturing environment , both internally and externally of the child, can prevent the child from flourishing in the three domains of child development socially, physically and cognitively and have a fundamentally detrimental impact on the child s ... Gottie believes that gangs are becoming to spin out of control, that it needs to be a solution to gang activity. On July 10, 2016 Gottie says I ain t never seen heaven before, but it was like a Memphis heaven everybody was on one accord , if the gangs could be on the same page for Black Lives Matter (Jones and Fretland, 2016) . Why can t it happen for the youth? Ar tavius Brown was 18 years old and joined a gang called the Pirus the Blood Alliance. Brown joined gang activity in South Memphis because he saw people with the cars, with the money (Goggans, 2014). Brown was put with the ramifications of having a gun shoot out at Central High school, but the judge saw something within Brown and gave him a second chance. Why are these stories relevant? These stories are relevant to the gang problem because if a gang member, Frank Gottie, sees that the gang problem in Memphis has to stop then it should be addressed. The community should want a change so the generation in Memphis doesn t fall into the typical stereotypes, they should want more for the future youth to come. Everyone(the youth) won t have that second chance like the Memphian Ar tavius Brown, all the youth won t have that judge that will see the better side of the situation. The community needs to get more involved with the youth, their kids, and family; so the gang problem won t become worse than it is becoming. ...
