Looking Back at the OJ Simpson Case
The numerous ups, downs, and controversies surrounding the life of former star football player OJ
Simpson have led to a strangely divided collective memory of the man. The term collective memory
refers to a shared pool of information held in the memories of a group from aggregated individual
recollections. The story of OJ Simpson s life is both sad and puzzling after overcoming adversity to
become one of the best football players of all time and a public figure beloved by many Simpson
would go on to put himself in a worse situation than ever before. Orenthal James Simpson otherwise
known as O.J. Simpson or The Juice was born July 9, 1947 in San Francisco, California. O.J. Simpson

Capricorn One, Back to the Beach, and the Naked Gun Trilogy. OJ even started his own production
company in 1979 called Orenthal Productions. NBC was considering TV series starring Simpson but
canceled the project when OJ was arrested. In addition to his acting and film career OJ Simpson was a
commentator for Monday Night Football and The NFL on NBC in the mid 80s. OJ Simpson up until
this point was well liked figure by the public and why not he was a charismatic NFL legend. Simpson
s likeability led to his roles on television and TV as well as a number of endorsement deals and
business ventures. Of all of his endorsements none were more iconic than his commercials for Hertz

The Collapse Of The Soviet Union
The collapse of the Soviet Union can ultimately be attributed to three broad, complex, and
interconnected issues: The economy, Leadership, and Geography. All three of theses factors are
interconnected and each contain several reasons why they contributed to the ultimate collapse of the
Soviet Union. The first and most simple reason the Soviet Union failed can be attributed to their
geographical challenges. The Soviet Union suffered two problems in regard to geographic challenges.
Firstly the country itself was far too vast, and its influence spread too far for there to be an easy to
spread authority (Suny). With such as large state to control there was realistically no feasible way that
influence from Moscow could control a large territory from Central Asia to Eastern Europe. This is a
territory that contained various amounts of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. In an obvious
perspective larger an state gets the harder it is to be controlled. Analytically speaking it is rather
impossible to control such a territory from a central authority. With the Soviet centrally commanded
system, authority from Moscow could not be spread vastly without a consequential use of money and
resources. Secondly The Soviet Union was blessed with an abundance of natural resources. At first
glance it would be easy to view this abundance of resources as a blessing for a powerful nation.
However from a historical angle the Soviet Union was trapped in resource curse. A resource curse

Why Are Planets Spherical Research Paper
Why are planets spherical and what would happen if they were a different shape? Nearly every planet,
moon or star discovered so far has been roughly spherical. This is because bodies of mass large
enough will cause a gravitational pull. As the object gets bigger, the stronger the gravitational pull
would be. Along with the gravitational pull that object creates, other objects would have pulls of their
own which in turn would affect the other objects shape. One way we can see this is with our moon.
Our moon affects the earth s shape by changing the tides every day. The object s spin and orbit would
also affects the way that planet is shaped. The faster the object spins the more the equator would
bulge. The spin of the object is called the

Tips For A Home Inspection
Are you buying a home? Buying a home is probably the most complicated (and important) purchase
most of us will make in our lifetime. Like any major purchase there are features and specifications for
all homes. On paper it may be the features that sell the home but if any of those features are in
disrepair, you might be signing up for more than you bargained for and getting less than you paid for.
When you re purchasing a home, you need to know what you re getting. There are a few ways you can
help protect yourself one of them is with a thorough home inspection. Hiring a qualified home
inspection company to take a look at the home you re interested in buying is very important. At the

Argumentative Essay On Area 51

revealing an...alien? Area 51 is an extremely mysterious place, and not much knowledge has been
released to the public about it. If you dig deep enough, information can be found about what Area 51
is, theories surrounding this odd place, stories from a retired scientist, a possibly even more odd and
mysterious building nearby, and, the oddest part about this place, its residents. Area 51 has some
interesting history. It is located in southern Nevada, some what near Las Vegas. Officially, it is a
United States Air Force Facility and is an extended branch of the Edwards Air Force Base. The
primary purpose of this base has not been revealed to the public. The CIA acknowledged the base for
the first time in 2005. The base s official name is Homey Airport, but was called Area 51 in an official
CIA document during the Vietnam War. Some popular nicknames for the base are Dreamland,
Paradise Ranch, and Home Base. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

United States. Supposedly, Kevlar, an extremely strong material that is used to make tires and other

The Importance Of Satirical Humor
Satirical humor can form an idea of the comedy that expresses a humorous way to entertain the
audience; it shows the different perspectives on how they manipulate the ideas and turn it into
something funny to the audience. Satire always has different flavors on how they appeal enjoyable to
the audience. Satire demonstrates something secure and ironic. Satirical humor is a communication
tool to get involved more in politics in a positive way to people. Sometimes, satire can misunderstand
people about their jokes are very insulting to the society. Satirical humor expresses some opinions
about political acts so people can view them more critically. The satirical humor expresses the social
criticism on wider issues about politics. Satirical humor can help involved with people with
entertainment through media in politics, and it gains the people s attention. Satire features a
heightened sense of irony, highlighting contradictions, inconsistencies, absurdities, mining them for
their humor, and even highlighting flaws and fakeries to people (Day 256). The satirical humor reveals
everything about hypocrisy and foolishness of people, organizations, society, and governments. Also,
satire can involve people to know more about their politics because it can easily seduce them to
experience as a passive form of humor rather than as a source of moral distress in requiring citizen
activism. For example, The Colbert Report is one that uses satirical humor to expose U.S. politics. The

Taking The Castle of Otranto as your example, outline the main conventions of the Gothic novel, and

Northanger
Abbey most accurately described as parody of the Gothic genre, or is there a more complicated
relationship going on?
Gothic novels purport to revive old stories and beliefs, exploring personal, psychical encounters with
the taboo (Williams, 2000). The genre, as typified by The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole,
involves a beautiful innocent young woman who is held captive by an older, powerful, evil ... Show

There are three gothic like aspects to the novel. The first is the character of the General as gothic
villain, patriarch and usurper and the Abbey as his gothic residence; the second is the exploration of
the dead mother s bedroom; and the final incident involves Catherine s expulsion from the Abbey.
Both the latter incidents end in very ordinary, anti climactic ways, in contrast to gothic stories. The
narrator also contrasts other ordinary incidents, with how they might have developed in a gothic
novel; for example, Catherine s journey to
Bath is accomplished with suitable quietness and uneventful safety.
Neither robbers nor tempests befriend them, nor one lucky overturn to introduce them to the hero
(Austen, 1933, p19).
Many commentators have concluded that Northanger Abbey is a parody of the Gothic genre. Whether
or not one agrees with this view depends on the definition of parody that one accepts. The Penguin
Dictionary of
Literary Terms Literary Theory offers the following relevant defining concepts: The imitative use of
the words, style attitude, tone and ideas of an author in such a way as to make them ridiculous.

Using The Heat Energy Equation
INTRODUCTION (Pre lab)
What will be the amount of energy contained in specific snack foods? This question will be solved by
using the heat energy equation, Q=mCΔT. Q or q will represent the heat in joules, this will be found
algebraically by filling in the rest of the heat energy equation. m will represent the mass in grams, this
will be found by finding the mass of the water. C will represent specific heat in Joules/grams °Celsius,
the specific heat of water will always be 4.184 J/g°C. ΔT will represent the change in temperature, this
will be found by subtracting the final temperature of the water by the original temperature of the
water. Capital Q means that heat will be added endothermic. Lowercase q means that heat will be lost
exothermic. The law conservation of energy says that energy will not be created nor destroyed, but
will be converted from one form to another. The percent error equation will be (accepted
experimental) ÷ (accepted), accepted is the Cal/g on the snack food s package, and the experimental is
the Cal/g that is calculated during the experiment. The independent variable will be the Marshmallow,
CHEEZ IT, Cheetos, and Chex mix. The dependent variable will be the energy in either Joules/grams
or Calories/gram because the amount of energy depends on the snack food. The controlled variable
will be the amount of water in the calorimeter because the water will be the same amount in every
trial. A bar graph will be needed to determine which snack food

The Inner Turmoil Expressed in Brutus’ Soliloquy in...
Brutus soliloquy in William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar reveals Brutus inner turmoil before he
decides on participating in the conspiracy. Brutus is torn between his love for Rome and his friendship
with Caesar. However, Brutus fears that Caesar s tyranny after enthroning will cause harm to Rome
and return Rome to dictatorship. In the end, Brutus chooses his obligation to Rome over Caesar.
Brutus soliloquy reflects on his internal conflict between his love for Caesar and his fear of Caesar s
power and ambition in which Brutus eventually resolves to kill Caesar. Brutus affection towards
Caesar makes him hesitate to kill Caesar. Brutus sorrow towards the idea of the conspiracy contributes
to his disinclination of killing Caesar. Brutus has deep affection for Caesar, however he is pressured to
eliminate Caesar because of his sense of duty to protect Rome, And for my part/ I know no personal
cause to spurn at him/ But for the general. (2.1.10 12) Brutus effectively uses the tone of helplessness
to evoke pathos in the audience. The atmosphere of sympathy establishes Brutus unwillingness to kill
Caesar. Furthermore, Brutus avoids the usage of Caesar s name, as he feels shameful when convincing
himself to kill Caesar. Brutus repeatedly uses third person pronoun he . Instead of using Caesar s
name, Brutus, consciously or unconsciously, replaces it with a pronoun. Brutus diction establishes his
awareness of his talk of the conspiracy against his best friend. He feels

Blue Man Group Essay
The off the wall antics and odd, but entertaining music style of the Blue Man Group has brought them
to be one of the most popular and successful theater groups in the world today.
The Blue Man Group came into play in 1987. Creators Matt Goldman, a software producer, Chris
Wink, and Phil Stanton, both working as waiters, say the Blue Man Group started as a weekend get
together in which they would invite their friends over and talk about art, science, and whatever else
interested them. The three saw their home city of New York to be a cultural wasteland. We heard about

To fully understand the Blue Man Group, one must come to understand the Blue Man himself. The
character is dressed in all black and painted a special shade of blue created exclusively for the group
but, this is only a very small part of the true Blue Man. The character is very complex. He is part
philosopher, part clown, and part teacher. The three blue men take the audience through a journey of
complex ideas, concepts, and contradictions of life. One finds out how the Blue Man perceives being
human. The blue men have a great amount of positive energy and are very welcoming but, the
character does not speak in the way one may think. The blue men communicate through their eyes and
bodily expressions. The character stands for the human spirit, even though he has the emotional range
of Mr. Spock on a particularly self controlled day (Richheimer, 2). The character is timid, but
passionate. The group worked to create a slightly strange but not frightening character, one that was
loveable but not boring.
We decided early on that he wouldn t have much facial expression, that he wasn t going to emote. But
at the same time it was important that we impart Blue Man s love and spiritual core. We try to do it
through our eyes. The small portals of emotion, and we try to keep the rest of the face impassive
(Richheimer, 2).
When asked Why blue? , Wink replied,
Blue just felt right from the start. But after we started performing, people began pointing

A Brief Note On Coronary Heart Disease ( Chd )
Introduction
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the obstruction of blood vessels that supply the heart muscle, due to
the deposition of lipid material [1]. Figure 1 illustrates various modifiable and non modifiable risk
factors, influencing the prevalence of CHD within Australians.
Figure 1: Modifiable and non modifiable risk factors affecting the prevalence of Coronary Heart
Disease in Australia
[19]
Modifiable Risk Factors Non Modifiable Risk Factors
Obesity Increasing age
Hyperlipidemia Gender
Excessive alcohol and tobacco use Family history
Psychological stress Heredity
Prevalence of CHD over the past century
As shown in Figure 2 (Page 2), the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) observed a
73% decrease in mortality caused by CHD, between 1968 and 2011 [2]. More specifically, the decline
in the mortality rate occurred in the late 1960s, where these changes were most evidence in males and
females aged 55 64 and 65 74 years respectively [21]. As shown in Figure 3 and 4 (Page 2), the
mortality rate in men aged 35 44 and 45 54 years declined at a decreasing rate, in contrast to older
men where the mortality rate had increased [21]. In women however, the rate of overall decline had
only been hindered in the 45 54 age category, as opposed to increasing in older age groups [21]. Thus,
over the past century, mortality rates have generally declined [2]. Although, this rate of decline is
gradually improving in older populations and deteriorating in younger

The Importance Of Hate Crimes
Prevention Efforts Since the identifiers that put people at risk for this type of crime are not things that
can be changed on the part of the potential victims, other efforts must be made to keep these
individuals safe, rather than just telling a black man to not be black anymore. The National Crime
Prevention Council has put together a list of strategies on how to diminish the presence of hate crimes,
and maybe to one day to extinguish them altogether. Some of these strategies that have been utilized
across America are raising cultural awareness, educating the public, and especially school age
students, about tolerance, and offering counseling for offenders of hate crimes. While all of these may
seem like they would be beneficial for decreasing hate crimes, it is important to look at how and if
they are being instituted in society, and look for changes in the rates of hate crimes. One of the
prevention efforts mentioned above was raising cultural awareness. This is done inasmuch as
increasing the public s view and trust of law enforcement in order to get the public to share what their
communities problems are. A community will know best what is going on within itself, and a police
officer cannot effectively do their job if they are being blocked from the members because of mistrust.
Since the number of immigrants in our society is constantly rising, it is unsurprising that due to
language barriers, many crimes go unreported. This effort suggests that bringing

Rapid adoption of new technologies and improved rural infrastructure induced productivity growth.
The government spending on productivity enhancing investments (especially agricultural research and
extension), rural infrastructure (especially roads and education), and rural development targeted
directly to the rural poor, all contribute to the growth in agricultural productivity. Avila and Evenson
(2004) have utilized FAO published data on cropland, pastureland, labour used in agriculture,
fertilizer, seeds, tractors and combine harvesters and animal stocks for measuring the changes in TFP
for crop production, livestock production and aggregate agricultural production for two periods, 1961
1980 and 1981 2001. Owing to the limitation of data on factor shares, the TFP growth rates seem to be
on a higher side. Modern varieties of the Green Revolution increase in the education level of labour
force, and increases in dietary energy have been reported as sources of TFP growth in the paper.
Modern varieties contributed maximum (64%) to TFP growth, followed by Schooling (22 %) and
nutrition (14 %). Birthal et al. (1999) have analyzed the trend in TFP for the livestock sector in India.
The livestock output grew at the rate of 2.6 per cent per year over the period 1950 51 to 1995 96. The
input index increased by 1.8 per cent per year and the TFP grew at about 0.8 per cent, implying that
technical change contributed about 30 per cent to the overall growth over the past 45

The Speed Of Dark By Mary Shelley
The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are novels that demonstrate
society s lack of acceptance towards abnormalities. The characters in both of these novels are used to
portray the challenges people face in order to be accepted in society. In The Speed of Dark an autistic
man, Lou, endures poor treatment at work because he performs tasks differently due to his autism. As
a result, his boss offers him the opportunity to receive a life changing surgery in order to make him
normal. Similarly, in Frankenstein the creature endures criticism due to his physical appearance. Both
of these characters are not easily accepted into society because they have distinct differences.
In The Speed of Dark Lou was settled, content with life, and doing well for himself despite suffering
with autism. Lou worked for a Pharmaceutical Company as a Bioinformatics specialist. Many people
failed to recognize Lou s capabilities, instead they saw him as a damaged incompetent individual. For
example, the corporate manager for the pharmaceutical company demonstrates the commonly held
prejudices against people with disabilities. Crenshaw states, You are not normal, you are autistic, you
are disabled (Moon, 83). Crenshaw disrespected Lou due to the high expense his disability was
costing the company. The company was providing Lou with special accommodations such as a private

Essay about The Origins of the Cold War
The Origins of the Cold War
The Cold War was a state of extreme hostility and confrontation but without direct militant action
between the two world powers, the USSR and the USA. The USSR and the USA were originally
wartime Allies during the Second World War; however a string of events and issues caused a built up
of suspicion and distrust which finally escalated to what was known as the Cold War. The start of Cold
War can be simply defined as the period of time whereby both powers were simultaneously hostile to

The Truman Doctrine was an open and direct confrontation of the Soviets. In it, the Soviets were
accused of political oppression , suppression of personal freedoms and were even perceived as evil by
the Americans. Under the Doctrine, the US policy was to support people who resisted attempted
subjugation by outside pressure which meant the Soviets. The US felt the need to assist the free people
against the spread of Communism and saw the Soviets as a threat and an enemy. This was the first
concrete and coherent American foreign policy towards the USSR. There was no immediate official
response from the Soviet government. However, a few months later, the Soviet Two Camps Speech
emerged stating Soviet stand to American aggression. It stated officially that the USSR was anti
democracy. Also the need to prevent Western powers desire to dominate the world was emphasized;
therefore the policy of cooperation between the Socialist and Liberal parties would cease to exist.
Communist parties in Western European countries were told to adopt a militant anti government
stance. The USSR was no longer keen on peaceful cooperation and acknowledged the fact that the
Americans and the Soviets could no longer be allies. This marked the start of the Cold War as the

tiger parents. Tiger parenting is a common used word to describe most Asian parents in America. Tiger
parents are the extremely strict parents who push their children to be academically successful by being
as close to perfection as possible. According to Yale Law professor Amy Chua, mothers gobble smack

Adnan Syed
Adnan Syed is accused of murdering his ex girlfriend, and various factors present him as a very likely
suspect. Information gathered from his peers don t add up, but instead prove he is innocent. Is Adnan
guilty or innocent for his ex girlfriend s death? In the Serial Podcast, Sarah Koenig discusses the case,
committed almost seventeen years ago, and uncovers new evidence that indicates Adnan s innocence.
Adnan Syed has been viewed as a boyfriend, honor roll student, and a murderer. Many described him
as a smart, flirtatious, and a likable high schooler. On January 13, 1999, his ex girlfriend Hae Min Lee
was murdered. Investigators immediately assumed Adnan as the primary suspect because Hae had
broken up with him, a month prior to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking back, Adnan is not guilty because he wasn t too upset after Hae broke up with him. Peers and
teachers have announced he took a breakup like any other high schooler, sad and glum. In the library,
Asia and Adnan were chatting with each other when Hae was dead. There s no possibility Adnan
could have killed Hae when he was in the library. Also, Adnan claims he does not know where Leakin
Park is. Aside from that, the sequence of events is inaccurate since Adnan s alibi has been supported
by witnesses. Although Jay claims he s been with Adnan when he reveals Hae s dead body and when
they buried it. However, most of the reasons that prove Adnan is guilty come from Jay, and no one
else can confirm them. Is Jay really a trustful

Tropical Rainforest Crisis Research Paper
HERE IS THE GOOGLE DOCX.
SO WHAT WE NEED TO DO FIRST IS GRACE COPY AND PASTE THE 1500 WORDS :)))
Why is the tropical rainforest in crisis and what can be done about it?
The tropical rainforest is located all around the world. For example, the Amazon Rainforest, the
Colombian Rainforest and other small rainforests located in Central America. In 1990, rainforests
were plentiful however until 2010, around an eighth of all the rainforests were cut down. The
rainforest is mostly endangered by human interaction and climate change. Forests are undergoing
deforestation and are changed into non productive forests which are forests that are cut in such a way
they produce minimal trees per year. Also, mining usually occurs in the rainforest which causes
erosion on the trees and its growth. Dams can be found in tropical rainforests which causes flooding.
As stated, there are many reasons why the rainforest is under crisis but one of the ... Show more

The Forest Floor: The forest floor will always be humid, dark and damp. This is because only two
percent of light reaches the bottom layer. This means that it will slow the growth of those that need
sunlight to grow. Understorey Layer: Understory layer only receives about two to fifteen percent of
sunlight. The plants that are lush only need so little light like the Dwarf Palm which is approximately
4 5 metres max. Many of the plants her rely on insects for their food. The understorey is home to
many animals and has the largest amount of insects. Canopy: Second highest layer of the rainforest.
This is the layer that allows only a little sunlight for the Forest Floor and the Understorey. The
creatures that live among the canopy rarely go down to the Forest Floor. Emergent Layer: Tallest
layer. It only consists of few tree trees that outgrow the canopy layer. They are wider than the canopy
trees since they more space to grow

Essay On Feral Hogs
Feral Hogs and their Impact on the Missouri Ecosystem When the topic of environmental problems is
brought up in social circles, the issues that usually come to mind would be air pollution and the search
for alternative energy; however, there is one issue that is becoming prevalent in a multitude of states
including Missouri is the problem of the invasive nature of feral hogs. This paper will discuss the
prevalence and disruption of Missouri habitats by these hogs. In addition to providing vital
information on the topic, the paper will propose a possible solution for this problem. However, before
a solution can be presented, one must be informed of the people who are directly affected by this
environmental issue. This invasive species affects much of those in rural communities. Some of the
stakeholders that are involved with this problem are farmers both small town and commercial,
conservation workers, nature enthusiasts, and non farming citizens of these communities. The damage
feral hogs can do to land is vast. As stated in the article, Feral Hogs in Missouri, A social group of ten
hogs can destroy 20 30 acres overnight, including crops, causing ... Show more content on

2014). With the recent release of the DSM V, these have all been combined under one diagnosis of
autism spectrum disorder and are differentiated through the use of numerical scales to describe
severity of effect. Primary diagnostic tests used are the Checklist for Autism Spectrum Disorder,
Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), and Gilliam Asperger s Disorder Scale (GADS). The
Checklist for Autism Spectrum Disorder is the only checklist or rating scale designed to evaluate
children with either low or high functioning autism spectrum disorder. The Childhood Autism Rating
Scale or CARS is used because it has the best psychometric support for children with low functioning
autism when compared with other autism rating scales. The Gilliam Asperger s Disorder Scale or
GADS is used because it is the only scale for high functioning autistic children in the age range of
early childhood to adolescence (Mayes, S. D., Calhoun, S., Murray, M., et al. 2009). Through the use
of these diagnostic tools to determine the evidence of a PDD and its severity of symptomatic
characteristics, a subject can be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and classified into severity
of autism.
The variance in severity on the autism spectrum can be seen through a comparison of a high and a low

University or College Athletes
After committing to the University of Oklahoma as a ninth grader, Kyle Hardrick took the court in
2009. It was a dream come true for Hardrick. An injury to his knee put his future and his scholarship
on hold. When Hardrick tried to resume his career, he was unable to obtain a medical hardship waiver,
something he needed to regain a year of college eligibility. His family was stuck with tuition bills
since his scholarship was not renewed. With those bills unpaid, he was unable to get his academic
transcripts from Oklahoma to transfer to another school (For College Scholarship Athletes, Injury Can
Spell Financial Disaster). As scholarships are renewed every year, stories like Hardrick s emerge
across the country but can be avoided if the student athlete had compensation to fall back on.
College athletes are not being paid for their labor, which schools profit from. The NCAA (National
College Athletics Association) earns about $4 billion in licensing fees each year. In 2010, the NCAA
signed a 14 year, $10.8 billion contract with CBS and Turner Sports to have exclusive rights to show
the men s college basketball tournament, which takes place every year (Miller). Student athletes are
being exploited by the NCAA and there s nothing they can do about it. Exploitation happens when
student athletes, who are making large amounts of money for their schools, often are not receiving any
kind of admissible, quality education. Another form a student athlete is exploited, the value of

In 2013 Beyonce made the bold move to include an excerpt from a speech by Nigerian novelist
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her song ***Flawless, the speech ends with the definition of a
feminist. Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
As the definition states a feminist is someone who strives for equality, not superiority, and is not just
limited to women. Above all feminist are people who continue their fight no matter who or what
stands in their way. Feminism as a concept dates back to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
when the battle for women s suffrage began, this is known as the first wave for feminism. The 60 s

I choose to have long purple and blonde hair, I choose to shave, and to wear mascara, that does not
make me any less of a feminist. And the female domination is just not feminism. By definition
feminist are fighting for equality not superiority, that is misandry. Misandrist are simply people who
are prejudice against men, like misogynist are prejudice to women. As feminist we we be completely
hypocritical to hate men, because we are working towards equality. We have to fight to stop both the
misogynist and the misandrists. Because of these untrue stereotypes a lot of women are unaware that
they are feminist. And those that are are sometimes scared to admit their identity because of the
reactions we get. When I was in high school I decided to write an article about double standards in the
music industry. When I pitched it to my fellow journalist some of the boys in the class snickered and
one of my good friends even asked me, Are you serious? As if the story was not worth space in our
paper. I must admit it hurt to be laughed at by my colleagues and made part of me embarrassed to even
have mention my idea. Or even speaking to my parents two very traditional mexican, catholics is

The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project (HGP) began in 1990 with funding from the Department of Energy and
the National Institutes of Health with the goal of decoding the human genome. Researchers from
across the world are working in conjunction to understand the sequence of amino acid base pairs and
how they interact with one another to elicit specific genetic reactions. Once the decoding of the
genome takes place, scientists will be able to develop individual treatment plans and understand a
number of diseases. Research has found that there are over 3 billion amino acid base pairs which make
up 20,000 genes. Of these 20,000 genes, the human genetic code is defined by forty six tightly packed
bunches called chromosomes. Due to the vast array of amino acid base pairs, the project has taken
over ten years to complete the sequencing of the specific parts, but the task of understanding how the
parts interact one another and the influence they have on diseases has yet to be accomplished. The
genetic material in chromosomes defines human attributes and is developed from proteins. Proteins
are a series of amino acids, which are strung together, and the unique combination of nucleic acids (A,
T, C, and G) in the protein give specific directions to the cell to produce certain combinations of
amino acids. This process creates proteins varying in form and function based upon the series of
amino acids. The differing proteins cause numerous actions in the body to be carried out, and are

Looking Back at the OJ Simpson Case The numerous ups, downs, and controversies surrounding the life of former star football player OJ Simpson have led to a strangely divided collective memory of the man. The term collective memory refers to a shared pool of information held in the memories of a group from aggregated individual recollections. The story of OJ Simpson s life is both sad and puzzling after overcoming adversity to become one of the best football players of all time and a public figure beloved by many Simpson would go on to put himself in a worse situation than ever before. After football Simpson continued his film career playing in Capricorn One, Back to the Beach, and the Naked Gun Trilogy. • 3. The Collapse Of The Soviet Union The collapse of the Soviet Union can ultimately be attributed to three broad, complex, and interconnected issues: The economy, Leadership, and Geography. All three of theses factors are interconnected and each contain several reasons why they contributed to the ultimate collapse of the Soviet Union. The first and most simple reason the Soviet Union failed can be attributed to their geographical challenges. The Soviet Union suffered two problems in regard to geographic challenges. Firstly the country itself was far too vast, and its influence spread too far for there to be an easy to spread authority (Suny). With such as large state to control there was realistically no feasible way that influence from Moscow could control a large territory from Central Asia to Eastern Europe. This is a territory that contained various amounts of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. In an obvious perspective larger an state gets the harder it is to be controlled. Analytically speaking it is rather impossible to control such a territory from a central authority. With the Soviet centrally commanded system, authority from Moscow could not be spread vastly without a consequential use of money and resources. Secondly The Soviet Union was blessed with an abundance of natural resources. At first glance it would be easy to view this abundance of resources as a blessing for a powerful nation. However from a historical angle the Soviet Union was trapped in resource curse. A resource curse being an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why Are Planets Spherical Research Paper Why are planets spherical and what would happen if they were a different shape? Nearly every planet, moon or star discovered so far has been roughly spherical. This is because bodies of mass large enough will cause a gravitational pull. As the object gets bigger, the stronger the gravitational pull would be. Along with the gravitational pull that object creates, other objects would have pulls of their own which in turn would affect the other objects shape. One way we can see this is with our moon. Our moon affects the earth s shape by changing the tides every day. The object s spin and orbit would also affects the way that planet is shaped. The faster the object spins the more the equator would bulge. The spin of the object is called the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is Northanger Abbey most accurately described as parody of the Gothic genre, or is there a more complicated relationship going on? Gothic novels purport to revive old stories and beliefs, exploring personal, psychical encounters with the taboo (Williams, 2000). The first is the character of the General as gothic villain, patriarch and usurper and the Abbey as his gothic residence; the second is the exploration of the dead mother s bedroom; and the final incident involves Catherine s expulsion from the Abbey. Both the latter incidents end in very ordinary, anti climactic ways, in contrast to gothic stories. The narrator also contrasts other ordinary incidents, with how they might have developed in a gothic novel; for example, Catherine s journey to Bath is accomplished with suitable quietness and uneventful safety. Neither robbers nor tempests befriend them, nor one lucky overturn to introduce them to the hero (Austen, 1933, p19). • 13. Using The Heat Energy Equation INTRODUCTION (Pre lab) What will be the amount of energy contained in specific snack foods? This question will be solved by using the heat energy equation, Q=mCΔT. Q or q will represent the heat in joules, this will be found algebraically by filling in the rest of the heat energy equation. m will represent the mass in grams, this will be found by finding the mass of the water. C will represent specific heat in Joules/grams °Celsius, the specific heat of water will always be 4.184 J/g°C. ΔT will represent the change in temperature, this will be found by subtracting the final temperature of the water by the original temperature of the water. Capital Q means that heat will be added endothermic. Lowercase q means that heat will be lost exothermic. The law conservation of energy says that energy will not be created nor destroyed, but will be converted from one form to another. The percent error equation will be (accepted experimental) ÷ (accepted), accepted is the Cal/g on the snack food s package, and the experimental is the Cal/g that is calculated during the experiment. The independent variable will be the Marshmallow, CHEEZ IT, Cheetos, and Chex mix. The dependent variable will be the energy in either Joules/grams or Calories/gram because the amount of energy depends on the snack food. The controlled variable will be the amount of water in the calorimeter because the water will be the same amount in every trial. A bar graph will be needed to determine which snack food ... In the end, Brutus chooses his obligation to Rome over Caesar. Brutus soliloquy reflects on his internal conflict between his love for Caesar and his fear of Caesar s power and ambition in which Brutus eventually resolves to kill Caesar. Brutus affection towards Caesar makes him hesitate to kill Caesar. Brutus sorrow towards the idea of the conspiracy contributes to his disinclination of killing Caesar. He is part philosopher, part clown, and part teacher. The three blue men take the audience through a journey of complex ideas, concepts, and contradictions of life. One finds out how the Blue Man perceives being human. The blue men have a great amount of positive energy and are very welcoming but, the character does not speak in the way one may think. The blue men communicate through their eyes and bodily expressions. The character stands for the human spirit, even though he has the emotional range of Mr. Spock on a particularly self controlled day (Richheimer, 2). The character is timid, but passionate. The group worked to create a slightly strange but not frightening character, one that was loveable but not boring. We decided early on that he wouldn t have much facial expression, that he wasn t going to emote. But at the same time it was important that we impart Blue Man s love and spiritual core. We try to do it through our eyes. The small portals of emotion, and we try to keep the rest of the face impassive (Richheimer, 2). Figure 1 illustrates various modifiable and non modifiable risk factors, influencing the prevalence of CHD within Australians. Figure 1: Modifiable and non modifiable risk factors affecting the prevalence of Coronary Heart Disease in Australia [19] Modifiable Risk Factors Non Modifiable Risk Factors Obesity Increasing age Hyperlipidemia Gender Excessive alcohol and tobacco use Family history Psychological stress Heredity Prevalence of CHD over the past century As shown in Figure 2 (Page 2), the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) observed a 73% decrease in mortality caused by CHD, between 1968 and 2011 [2]. More specifically, the decline in the mortality rate occurred in the late 1960s, where these changes were most evidence in males and females aged 55 64 and 65 74 years respectively [21]. As shown in Figure 3 and 4 (Page 2), the mortality rate in men aged 35 44 and 45 54 years declined at a decreasing rate, in contrast to older men where the mortality rate had increased [21]. In women however, the rate of overall decline had only been hindered in the 45 54 age category, as opposed to increasing in older age groups [21]. Thus, over the past century, mortality rates have generally declined [2]. Although, this rate of decline is gradually improving in older populations and deteriorating in younger ... • 17. The Importance Of Hate Crimes Prevention Efforts Since the identifiers that put people at risk for this type of crime are not things that can be changed on the part of the potential victims, other efforts must be made to keep these individuals safe, rather than just telling a black man to not be black anymore. The National Crime Prevention Council has put together a list of strategies on how to diminish the presence of hate crimes, and maybe to one day to extinguish them altogether. Some of these strategies that have been utilized across America are raising cultural awareness, educating the public, and especially school age students, about tolerance, and offering counseling for offenders of hate crimes. While all of these may seem like they would be beneficial for decreasing hate crimes, it is important to look at how and if they are being instituted in society, and look for changes in the rates of hate crimes. One of the prevention efforts mentioned above was raising cultural awareness. This is done inasmuch as increasing the public s view and trust of law enforcement in order to get the public to share what their communities problems are. A community will know best what is going on within itself, and a police officer cannot effectively do their job if they are being blocked from the members because of mistrust. Since the number of immigrants in our society is constantly rising, it is unsurprising that due to language barriers, many crimes go unreported. This effort suggests that bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rapid adoption of new technologies and improved rural infrastructure induced productivity growth. The government spending on productivity enhancing investments (especially agricultural research and extension), rural infrastructure (especially roads and education), and rural development targeted directly to the rural poor, all contribute to the growth in agricultural productivity. Avila and Evenson (2004) have utilized FAO published data on cropland, pastureland, labour used in agriculture, fertilizer, seeds, tractors and combine harvesters and animal stocks for measuring the changes in TFP for crop production, livestock production and aggregate agricultural production for two periods, 1961 1980 and 1981 2001. Owing to the limitation of data on factor shares, the TFP growth rates seem to be on a higher side. Modern varieties of the Green Revolution increase in the education level of labour force, and increases in dietary energy have been reported as sources of TFP growth in the paper. Modern varieties contributed maximum (64%) to TFP growth, followed by Schooling (22 %) and nutrition (14 %). Birthal et al. (1999) have analyzed the trend in TFP for the livestock sector in India. The livestock output grew at the rate of 2.6 per cent per year over the period 1950 51 to 1995 96. The input index increased by 1.8 per cent per year and the TFP grew at about 0.8 per cent, implying that technical change contributed about 30 per cent to the overall growth over the past 45

The characters in both of these novels are used to portray the challenges people face in order to be accepted in society. In The Speed of Dark an autistic man, Lou, endures poor treatment at work because he performs tasks differently due to his autism. As a result, his boss offers him the opportunity to receive a life changing surgery in order to make him normal. Similarly, in Frankenstein the creature endures criticism due to his physical appearance. Both of these characters are not easily accepted into society because they have distinct differences. In The Speed of Dark Lou was settled, content with life, and doing well for himself despite suffering with autism. Lou worked for a Pharmaceutical Company as a Bioinformatics specialist. Many people failed to recognize Lou s capabilities, instead they saw him as a damaged incompetent individual. For example, the corporate manager for the pharmaceutical company demonstrates the commonly held prejudices against people with disabilities. Crenshaw states, You are not normal, you are autistic, you are disabled (Moon, 83). Crenshaw disrespected Lou due to the high expense his disability was costing the company. The company was providing Lou with special accommodations such as a private gym, sound system, and a private parking lot. As a result of Crenshaw s disrespect Lou was viewed as ... The Truman Doctrine was an open and direct confrontation of the Soviets. In it, the Soviets were accused of political oppression , suppression of personal freedoms and were even perceived as evil by the Americans. Under the Doctrine, the US policy was to support people who resisted attempted subjugation by outside pressure which meant the Soviets. The US felt the need to assist the free people against the spread of Communism and saw the Soviets as a threat and an enemy. This was the first concrete and coherent American foreign policy towards the USSR. There was no immediate official response from the Soviet government. However, a few months later, the Soviet Two Camps Speech emerged stating Soviet stand to American aggression. It stated officially that the USSR was anti democracy. Also the need to prevent Western powers desire to dominate the world was emphasized; therefore the policy of cooperation between the Socialist and Liberal parties would cease to exist. Communist parties in Western European countries were told to adopt a militant anti government stance. • 31. The Human Genome Project The Human Genome Project (HGP) began in 1990 with funding from the Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health with the goal of decoding the human genome. Researchers from across the world are working in conjunction to understand the sequence of amino acid base pairs and how they interact with one another to elicit specific genetic reactions. Once the decoding of the genome takes place, scientists will be able to develop individual treatment plans and understand a number of diseases. Research has found that there are over 3 billion amino acid base pairs which make up 20,000 genes. Of these 20,000 genes, the human genetic code is defined by forty six tightly packed bunches called chromosomes. Due to the vast array of amino acid base pairs, the project has taken over ten years to complete the sequencing of the specific parts, but the task of understanding how the parts interact one another and the influence they have on diseases has yet to be accomplished. The genetic material in chromosomes defines human attributes and is developed from proteins. Proteins are a series of amino acids, which are strung together, and the unique combination of nucleic acids (A, T, C, and G) in the protein give specific directions to the cell to produce certain combinations of amino acids. This process creates proteins varying in form and function based upon the series of amino acids. The differing proteins cause numerous actions in the body to be carried out, and are ...
