My Brother s Gameboy Essay
As a child the things that meant the most to me were shiny, colorful, and utterly unattainable. From a
young age I was taught that taking what was not yours without asking was unbelievably wrong and
would result in a never ending timeout. Fearing an eternity spent sat in a corner thinking about what I
had just done I made an early habit of asking for things I wanted and forgetting about the things I
could not have. Unfortunately this lifestyle could only last so long and so at only four years old the
temptation became too much and I had convinced myself that the only solution was to take what was
not given to me. The year was 2001 and my older brother had recently been given a brand new
GameBoy Advanced. This incredible technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confused I exclaimed You died. It s my turn! to which Joey quickly retorted I did not! They just
fainted there is no death in this game. You don t get a turn. Stunned, a feeling mixed between betrayal
and disappointment washed over me. I had asked nicely and yet I was denied the chance to play.
Unsure of what to do with myself now that I was not allowed to have the one thing I desired I found
my way to my room. Needing a place to think I rolled under my bed and let the emotions settle in.
Disappointment won out as the more overwhelming emotion and I began to plot a way to take what I
felt was rightfully mine. I soon realized that I had no real idea of how to enact my plan and became
more frustrated. I knew I needed a second opinion and intended to speak to Lucky when I realized that
in my fit of despair I had left him behind. I decided that a rescue mission was in order and climbed out
from under my bed. Sneaking through the house I reached my brother s room and was shocked to find
only Lucky there. I raced over lifting him from the bed and hugging him close knowing he was once
again safe. I turned to leave but right before I could I noticed a faint noise coming from within the
blankets. Lifting them I found true temptation. There sat Joey s GameBoy taunting me as I stared in
wonderment. It dawned on me that I could just go back to my room and find a different way to get the
chance to play but with no one in sight I decided that taking it now

Houston Basketball Game
It was a nice sunny day at the University of Wyoming Campus, the basketball team was just starting to
load the bus to the airport around 10:00 a.m. to head down to Houston for the NCAA Championship
game against Clemson the following day. This was the first chance to win a National Championship
since the 1942 43 season when they beat Georgetown 46 34, but little did they know that their journey
would be cut short by some unexpected guests. It was about 4:30 p.m. when they arrived in Houston,
so they got on the bus at the airport and headed to their hotel to get situated. Around 6:00 p.m. they
headed off to their final practice before the big game to refresh their memories and make sure that they

Essay on France s Welfare System
The welfare system in France is founded on the principle of solidarity. Solidarity is sense of the
responsibility of the individuals in the society to help each other out. This is all for the common good
(Spicker). In order to promote solidarity, France has a welfare system that includes universal
entitlements, social insurance, means tested public assistance, and tax expenditures programs. One
aspect of the French welfare system is universal entitlements. One universal entitlement under the
French welfare system is health insurance. Every citizen in Frances is able to have healthcare
insurance. For those citizens that are employed, the employer and employee both finance the
insurance. However, the government pays for the health care of ... Show more content on

However, this assistance ends once the child becomes three years old (Evans 1997). Means test public
assistance is one way the French promote the principle of solidarity. Social insurance is also a
different facet of the welfare system in France. One example of social insurance is unemployment
insurance. If one loses their job, the person receives 35% of the income that he or she received while
employed. For those that are unable to work due to age or disabilities, the government has an
assistance program in place. The French also have a pension system that is similar to Social Security
in the United States. The system is a pay as you go one. Both the employer and employee give to this
pension fund. Once the individual is old enough, he or she will receive this retirement money
(Wingert). One more feature the French welfare state is tax expenditure programs. An example of a
tax expenditure that is found in France is a tax benefit for married couples. There are many more
established tax expenditures; one of which is for those with children. In fact, there are so many tax
expenditures that France spends over 0.5% of its gross domestic product on tax breaks just towards the
family. Tax expenditures programs are another part the France s welfare system (Bentolila 2011). Like
most wealthy countries, France was affected by the Great Recession; however, France was not hit as

My Education, And The Influence Of Education
When you compare the world I come from to the world of some others, I came from an exceptional
world. Coming from a home with both parents, exceptional neighborhood, and growing up in church
all my life has taught me many lessons in life that eventually influence many of my decisions. Where I
come from has influenced me a lot. While I did grow up in a stable home, I also experienced many
bad things in different surroundings in my life that have influenced me to focus on my education and
make a difference in my community. I spent many summers staying with my grandmother who lived
in a rough neighborhood. Spending time in that neighborhood during a number of summers have
exposed me witnessing the struggle of many different people and also seeing people like my own
brother be badly affected by his environment in a rough neighborhood being lead to make bad
decisions in life. Seeing my brother drop out of high school, join a gang, and eventually end up in bad
area in his life influenced me to pursue my education and go to college to be the best I could be so I
wouldn t end up in the same position that he did. Not only did that experience influence me to want to
pursue the best education I could but it also made me want to be able to use my education and life
experiences to mentor others and show them the importance of pursuing an education and careers.
When it comes to mentoring younger men and doing community outreach, I felt like the best way for
me to help people and mentor

Understanding Native Americans and Western Medicine
Essential Knowledge for Providing Culturally Competent Care to Native Americans

Writing for Healthcare
Hennepin Technical College Native Americans and Western Medicine:
Essential Knowledge for Providing Culturally Competent Care to Native Americans
Many Alaskan Natives and Native Indians, also known as American Indians, share the same or similar
views on health and medicine. Their definition of traditional medicine incorporates medicine and
religion, various chants and rituals, and being one with Earth (Broome, B., Broome, R., 2007). In the
United States we are challenged to think about health care from our tradition as a cultural melting pot.
Therefore, we must address the large range of individual health care needs from populations living the
inner city and suburbia to those in rural environments. (O Brien, Anslow, Begay, Pereira, Sullivan,
2002). It is important for healthcare workers to understand the views of American Indians in order to
integrate their traditional medicine as well as western medicine. Examining areas such as common
health conditions, treatments, and attitudes towards health, natural and alternative health will lead to a
better capability of providing culturally competent care.
Introduction and Background Native Americans, such as Navajo and Cherokee, have been in the
United States for the past 12,000 years (Horowitz, 2012). Although those are the two most

Insanity Defense Insanity
The insanity defense is a hot topic in today s crime dramas. Ask a television saturated college student
how often they believe this defense is used in court and they estimate that it is employed about one
third of the time (Lilienfeld 8). In reality, this defense is only used rarely, with a successful attempt
being even rarer. Even as a cultural sensitivity to mental illness is cultivated in schools and
workplaces, the court remains a skeptical harbinger of judgement to the mentally ill, more often
handing down punishment when treatment is needed than excusing a guilty man of his crime.
Controversy surrounding the morality of the insanity defense is heavy, posing significant questions
that can shape the future relationship between insanity and the justice system in the United States.
[CLARIFY THESIS]
The evolution of the insanity defense has taken place over hundreds of years; the earliest records of
criminals pardoned for madness date back to the sixteenth century. However, the first instance of a
court defense most resembling today s insanity plea took place in 1843, titled the M Naghten rule.
Although this case took place in England, the policy born from it was adopted by the United States
soon after (Rolf 2). Another test that is widely used in the United States, the Durham test, originated in
New Hampshire in 1871. The third test was brought about by the American Law Institute in 1955.
These three standards for legal insanity are still used today and approach the

A shapeless mass, and a set of rules.
And each of us, a life is flown,

He put forth all the effort it took to make his dream a reality despite the odds against him. Martin
Luther King is a man who illustrated the third E beautifully.
The third E is for Essential. Imagine a world where everyone built himself into someone who was
essential to his family, neighborhood, or a group of otherwise lonely people. Martin Luther King was a
hero because he was essential to a suffering nation. He had another piece of advice that, when heeded,
will make us all essential members of any group. He said Everyone can be great because everyone can
serve. You don t have to have a college degree to serve. You don t have to have your subject and your
verb agree. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. If you do nothing else, serve
others with love and grace, and you will be an essential part of our world.
Do we enjoy being who we are? Are we putting 100% effort into who we are and what we are doing?
Are we an essential part of someone s life and a meaningful piece to society? Now, back to the poem.

The Taliban And Al Qaeda
The events of 9/11 have brought the topic of Islamic Terrorism to the forefront of western media and
diplomatic conversation. It has marked and highlighted the rise in the number of the organizations
who use terrorism as a tool to achieve religious or political goals. The actions and strategies of these
groups have intensified and become increasingly global. It has become somewhat common practice to
generalize these groups, their objectives and their strategies. The Taliban and Al Qaeda are some the
two most outspoken groups and many assume their characteristics to be similar. As the western gaze
focuses primarily on these two organizations, a comparison between: their origins, structures,

Afghan refugees in Pakistan were offered a free education alongside Pakistanis to these schools. These
schools were used to further the organization s desired objectives.
Although the Taliban s territory is distinctly Afghanistan, their Pakistani foundation resonates
throughout much of their history and structure as an international support and through their ties with
the Al Qaeda. Their Afghan origins and influence began in 1994 in Southern Afghanistan following
the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan as a counter to the pro communist government. From their
onset in Southern Afghanistan, the Taliban acquired a great deal of power and influence. Through
armed force and following the ousting of the pro communist President Mohammad Najibullah by the
Mujahedeen forces, the Taliban successfully took Kabul in 1996. Their political success manifested in
them forming a government from September 1996 to December 2001. They maintained this control
and power, despite international condemnation on human rights grounds. In fact, by 1998 they
controlled around 90% of Afghanistan (Yung, 2007). However, their influence was not enough to
capture the north western part of Afghanistan, which remained in the hands of the Northern Alliance.
The Taliban enjoyed a great rise of power in the early stages of the organization and throughout this
decade of control their structures and objectives evolved with some success. Around the early 2000s
and the attacks of September

Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard
Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard is an amusing, revealing essay in which the speaker, a woman
in her twenties or thirties, tells the audience stories about her mother and her mother s unusual
personality. The ultimate purpose of the essay is to show by the mother s various quirks and rules how
her daughter is inspired to be her own person, stand up for the underdog, and to keep people on their
toes, and to hopefully pass this lesson on to the audience. The speaker has written this essay in
descriptive, comprehensive terms which convey to the audience how special and remarkable her
mother was, and to share some of her teachings with the rest of the world. Terwilliger bunts one is a ...

77), her restless mental vigor (p. 78), and her willingness to stand up for her opinions, no matter how
unpopular. Though the mother in this essay uses extraordinary words and is obviously a well educated
woman, the diction used by the speaker is generally straightforward to the average person; therefore, it
can be concluded that the story was written for the average person. The terms used are nonetheless
very specific and suited to their purpose of describing the mother, especially with several precise
adjectives appearing constantly. The mother has an emotional voice (p. 78), holds unpopular, even
fantastic, positions (p. 78), and gives a vibrantly innocent look (p. 77) after destroying a game of
bridge. However, the essay does require thinking, as several of the examples of the mother s behavior
and phrases that she employs are very clever and include a much more sophisticated diction, as is true
in the mother s life. When she responds to the question Save stamps? (p. 75) with No...I build model
airplanes (p. 75). Even the speaker could not understand what her meant for years, which was that
building model airplanes was her hobby, not collecting stamps. The tone and diction that the speaker
uses is simple, but the reader has to work harder to understand examples of things the speaker s
mother does or says. The speaker also makes good use of literary devices, though they rarely appear.
She makes an allusion to Samson (p.77) when talking

Simmons, Charles James (1893 1875), politician and evangelical preacher, was born on 9 April 1893

During the inter war period, Simmons worked as a Daily Herald organizer and an inspector in a car
factory but also experienced spells of unemployment. He was elected to Birmingham City Council in
1921 as a member of the minority Labour Group. Simmons was considered a firebrand by political
opponents and allies alike for his uncompromising position on issues such as unemployment,
homelessness and temperance. Intermittently, between 1921 and 1945, he served on the council for
over fifteen years. First elected to Parliament in 1929 for Birmingham Erdington, he remained loyal to
the Labour Party when two of his political patrons, Oswald Mosley and Ramsey Macdonald, did not.
Generally supportive of Mosley until the latter formed the New Party, Simmons was anguished by
Macdonald s decision to form the National Government in 1931. As an MP, the rights of ex
servicemen of all ranks remained one of his priorities; a disabled private soldier himself, he utilized
his experience to campaign for others. He also spoke in favour of disarmament, limitations on military
expenditure and support for the League of Nations. The strength of his convictions on these issues led
him to defy the Labour Whip on occasion; in March 1930 he spoke in favour and voted for an
amendment to the Air estimates that would have virtually abolished the Air Force.
In the period leading up to 1939 he was critical of the Chamberlain government

How Did Shakespeare Changed The World
Have you ever anticipated anything with abated breath, or have you ever been stuck in a pickle?
Maybe not, but most people have heard these common expression before and would know what they
refer to. What most people do not know is that these expressions are being quoted directly out of parts
of Shakespeare s work. Although for many it may not be readily apparent, Shakespeare is an
extremely influential person. He has affected the arts from literature to theater. Although many people
do not realize how important Shakespeare is, he has changed the world. Shakespeare s influence on
the English language and literature can be seen through many different ways. One of the ways that
Shakespeare has influenced our language is through the vocabulary that he added to our dictionary.
Shakespeare had a working vocabulary of more than 30,000 words. But if he did not have a word that
he needed in order to adequately describe something, he would simply create and merge existing
words together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Romeo and Juliet (Anderson). Unfortunately, most people do not realize that Shakespeare plays such
an extremely important role in our dialect every day. Most people who unknowingly use phrases and
sayings that have come from Shakespeare on a regular basis do not realize Shakespeare s importance
in their lives. Marjorie Garber, a writer who holds great respect for Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare

Bernie Madoff Chapter Summaries
This book talks about how Bernie Madoff was a liar and a cheat to American society where people got
used betrayed and lied to because of him in belief they were going to becoming wealthy. Madoff was
the world s biggest thief that stole millions from people and destroyed numerous lives. He made
people believe they were going to get rich quick and that was his incentive on getting people to
participate in his schemes. The book reports how this crook used his legal business as a broker dealer
and his standing as an innovative creator of Nasdaq to attract investors and avoid harsh scrutiny from
the Securities and Exchange Commission. It described how he parlayed the reputations of a few
valued and respected investors and associates into large followings in high class communities like the
Upper East Side of Manhattan and Palm Beach, and how he used feeder funds, which drove clients
money to him, to extend his global reach. Some of Madoff s victims include faces of Hollywood and
the New York power elite. Kirtzman says Bernie Madoff had an appetite for risk and a concerning
superficial belief that he was invincible to consequences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Educating Afghan Girls Education
Educating Afghan Girls
Education is one of the most important contributors to having a successful future. In developed
countries such as North America boys and girls are fortunate enough to have access to an unbiased
education system. Therefore, allowing children to have countless opportunities. However, in countries
like Afghanistan girls are marginalized and neglected the right to learn. Afghanistan is a country of
war, where women and girls are often the worst victims. In 2011, Afghanistan was known as the most
dangerous place in the world for a girl to be born (Kissane). Malala Yousufzai, a female education
activist was also a victim of war. Yousufazi was shot in the head and neck for advocating for girls and
their rights to have access to education. Similarly, to Yousufzai many women in Afghanistan stand up
for their entitlement to having equality. Those courageous women often become victims of abuse and
are often killed. Investing in girls education is critical, not only is it life altering for a girl s future, but
it s also poses benefits to society. By allowing Afghan girls access to educating we are also promoting
better socioeconomic s, a reduction in child marriages, and an improvement in mortality rates.
Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Three decades of war has subjected Afghans
to harsh living conditions. Leaving most with insufficient resources to survive. Many women are left

Benefits Of Fantasy Football
Fantasy Football is a game that belongs to a billion dollar industry called fantasy sports wherein
players, aptly called team owners, can acquire or draft an entire team of real life professional football
players. Arranged into leagues that mimic real ones, Fantasy Football participants gain score points
through statistical capabilities or performances of the real world players which are included in the
fantasy rosters of the respective owners.
In essence, the way to win in Fantasy Football is to always have high quality players. Since the
performance of the real world players can change in between real world matches, you need to make
regular updates or changes to the players in your fantasy roster to keep up with the fantasy games.
This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To do this you just go the players page in your league s website, there you will find the list of players
to choose from. Commonly, for each player that you acquire, a corresponding member of your team
should be dropped too.
All in all, after acquiring a new player and dropping an old one, your roster will be changed. But there
are other ways of changing players in Football Fantasy and here they are.
Activating Bench Players To Active Status
One of the most overlooked ways of changing players in an existing lineup is by simply changing the
status of a certain player from bench to active or vice versa. You can access this function online by
simply going to your team s webpage. There you will find a menu that permits you to change the
status of each of the players on your roster. Always remember to save the changes before you exit the
page.
Trading Players
This can be the easiest way of changing the player composition of a Fantasy Football team. For one,
this method of changing players on a team is allowed even if the season has already started. And more
importantly, this method has very few restrictions; so the process and the agreements that lead to the
trading of players is entirely left to the preferences of the two teams that decide to

Identify The Different Types Of Sports Players
The Different Types of Sport Players
Playing three sports throughout high school has given me the opportunity to notice that there are at
least three common types of players in every sport. Being apart of many different sports throughout
my life has shown me that it doesn t matter if it s little league, high school, or just playing around with
some friends on the weekends, but every sport has led me to notice that there are three main types of
players: the team player, the me player, and the bench player. The team player is widely known to be
all about team. They are hard working in practice and in games. They work hard to put most of their
focus on the team, making sure everyone else s focus is on the same thing and that no one is selfish.
The team player is usually awarded being a captain of some sort, someone the players consider a
leader. The team player could either get a lot of playing time or ... Show more content on

The me player is prideful. They are less worried about the team and more worried about the playing
time he or she is receiving in games, whether the coach is watching him or her when he or she does
something good. Normally this player tries to do too much, takes the spotlight from the team, and
places it on themselves. I have seen two extremes with the me player: the first is he or she is very
good. He or she have talent, and he or she knows the coach notices his or her skills. The second is
where he or she is very bad, and has no talent, yet they still want to try to earn the spotlight. Lastly, we
have the bench player. The bench player sits on the bench cheering on his or her team. The bench
player has some skill and is sometimes used as second or third string player. Mostly, the bench player
is used in practice; their job is to work the really good players, (the starters) to practice and train them
in such a way that the next game, they play well. The bench player is very resourceful and is just as
important as the players

Negative Effects Of Radiation
The word radiation means several things such as radio waves and light. When such types of radiation
travel through substances, it can become charged electrically. When it is also in a tissue that is living,
the ions that were produced by the radiation can affect biological processes (IAEA (International
Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). There are several ways people are exposed to radiation, including x
rays, radiation used to diagnose diseases and for cancer therapy, nuclear explosive testing that goes
wrong, small quantities of radioactive materials released into the environment from coal and nuclear
power plants, etc. (IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). The radiation that is emitted
from cell phones, X ray machines, and nuclear power plants are very different. They are all energy, but
the difference is that unlike the others, cell phones are not radioactive, and harms the body, unlike the
others (Ornes, 2011).
The phones operate by altering your voice into a radio wave, which it dispatches with an antenna that
it also uses to receive the radio waves from the other line, which it changes to a voice that the user can
comprehend. Since the radio waves are also a type of radiation, if the user s phone is close to the user
s head, the tissues can absorb the radiation, which hasn t yet been confirmed, but could later on be the
cause of a brain tumor or disease, since the use of cell phones didn t start until about 15 years ago
(Ornes, 2009). Studies show that spending 50 minutes or more with an active phone near your ear
increases harmful brain activity because when cell phones are actively working, the radiation they
emit could hurt you, after years of using a cell phone. Although there is a lot of evidence that suggests
that cell phones are harmful, scientists, are still not completely sure (Ornes, 2011). SAR (Specific
Absorption Rate) is the rate measurement of how much radiation your body s tissues can absorb when
you are using a cellphone. The SAR for a cellphone is set for a limit of 1.6 watts of energy absorbed
per kilogram of body weight (Highest and Lowest Radiation Cell Phones, 2017).

Red Hunting Hat Catcher In The Rye
A lack of communication and friends can prove to be what causes someone to find out who he or she
really is. In the beginning of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger introduces the red hunting hat when
Holden gets back from the schools fencing match in New York. Holden purchases this hat after he
leaves the equipment they needed in order to participate in the match on the subway. In a way, he buys
the hat to make up for what he did and to calm himself when he is caught in a situation. Anytime
Holden feels alone or upset, he uses the hat as a source of comfort or protection from the world. In the
novel The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger uses Alienation to demonstrate the idea that it can make

Holden doesn t need the hat anymore a source of his protection and identity because he thinks that
Phoebe needs the hat more than him. Holden wants phoebe to be protected from the dangers of
growing up and losing innocence, so he tells her to keep it. Salinger writes, Then I took my hunting
hat out of my coat pocket and gave it to her. She likes those kinds of crazy hats. (97) Holden knows
that alienation is what represents what little stability there is in his life and that he never addresses his
emotions head on, but he chooses to hide from them. Holden doesn t need to protect himself anymore
because he knows who he is and that the red hunting hat will not change him as a person. Holden also
realizes that while he wants to have connections, alienation is what separates the two and causes
problems. He starts to lose the fear of what other people think of him due to the growing fear that
phoebe will get hurt one day. He gives the hat to phoebe as a means of protection for when she grows
up and faces challenges in life instead of using the hat as a means of a source of protection for

General Bernard Montgomery s Larg Operation Market Garden
The year is 1944, and the Allies are drawing closer to victory everyday. A daring plan arises soon after
the successful invasion of Normandy; this plan, alternatively, ends in disaster. Had everything gone as
the good General Bernard Montgomery had hoped, the war would have been finished by Christmas; a
large blow against the Germans was needed to relieve the troops in Normandy, who were then facing
both German soldiers and difficult, unfamiliar terrain. General Montgomery had devised a plan that
would push the Allies through Holland and past the strongest of Germany s defences. The idea was
simple: the Allied Airborne Division would drop paratroopers in, who would then take eight important
bridges around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. These troops would then fight through Nazi
controlled Holland and into the heart of Germany, winning the war.
The historic battle of Arnhem was codenamed Operation Market Garden. When it was conceived, the
idea was that a quick strike through Holland and into Germany would be able to end the war and bring
relief to the troops battling through terrain and soldiers in Normandy. The original plan was very much
like the invasion of Normandy: a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Allies made it across the Rhine and into Germany s industrial area. Had the operation been canceled,
the resources could have been diverted elsewhere, and may have been more help at ending the war. As
it is, Operation Market Garden will forever go down as a stain on history; if more intelligence and

Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower
I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring again and
today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab, we
arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding and a lot bigger
than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we found our tour guide, so
that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don t like heights,
but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first floor or the first platform and let me tell
you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was
magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour
guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and
we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and
plopped in a quarter. All I could say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we
got up there I realized i wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I
took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking
at everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words
were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the park
around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least until it
started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of us because
there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After some time we
got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn t matter, we were drenched as well.
We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. We wandered the hotel after we
changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped raining after a little while and we decided
to go shopping around the boutiques, the look of the boutiques made me think that everything was

Data Partition Properties And Its Structure For Preparing...
Map/Reduce is a structure for preparing parallelizable issues crosswise over gigantic datasets utilizing
a substantial number of PCs (hubs), all things considered alluded to as a group i.e. if all hubs are on
the same local network and use the same hardware) or a framework i.e. if the hubs are shared
crosswise over geologically and authoritatively conveyed systems, and use a more heterogenous
hardware. Handling can happen on data saved either in a file system unstructured or in a database
organized. Map/Reduce can exploit domain of data, preparing it on or close to the storage resources
with a specific end goal to reduce the length over which it must be transmitted. Jiaxing et al. proposes
SUDO, an advancement system that reasons about data partition characteristics, working properties,
and data shuffling. They contend that reasoning about data partition properties crosswise phases opens
up chances to reduce extravagant data shuffling. For instance, in the event that we realize that data
partitions from past computation phases as of now have alluring properties for the following phase, we
have the method to stay away from superfluous data shuffling steps. The fundamental obstruction to
reasoning about data partition properties crosswise over processing phases is the utilization of UDFs
[4]. At the point when a UDF is viewed as a black box , which is typically the case, we must expect
conservatively that all data partition characteristics are lost subsequent to applying

Disappearing Spoon Chapter Summary
The Disappearing Spoon written by author Sam Kean, is a book in where it talks about how the
elements from the periodic table play a huge role into where we stand today. Kean digs deep down
into where and how these elements were discovered or created. From the stories of the elements he
can tell the reader how it led to other stories of science, history, finance, mythology, the arts, medicine,
and more
Ch. 1
In Geography is Destiny, the author Sam Kean begins by going into the organization of the periodic
table. From there, he states that every element in the periodic table has a specific location where they
serve a purpose just like bricks in a castle. Deriving out of this analogy, he explains that from the

He goes off and tells the story of Marie Cruz s findings of new elements and her deep love for
chemistry. Although Marie passes away, her legacy lives on through her daughter Irene Joliot Curie.
Irene and her husband found a way to cultivate radioactive elements which allowed her to earn Nobel
Prize. Kean states that a great injustice was done to Lise Meitner, her discovery of protactinium was
not awarded with a Nobel Prize.
Ch. 13 In Elements as Money, Kean begins the chapter with the story about the famous prince Midas,
informing us that people during 3000 BC were unable to identify the distinct types of metals. This
lead to the creation of counterfeiting, asides from this idea came the fascination for gold. Although
these gold rushes were quite glorifying they had an aftermath, which consisted of the need for housing
supplies. From the gold rush, came the urgency for tellurium since it was able to be broken down into
gold. Towards the end of the chapter, aluminum is highlighted as important, at one point it was valued
more than gold.

The Movement of Water through Homes in Pompeii Essays
Introduction It is amazing that Pompeii, a city that existed so long ago, had such a complex water
system. Ancient Rome is famous for its luxurious public baths, but much less is known about the
about the movement of water through private homes. Did all citizens have running water? How was
the water transported to individual homes? How were they able to control the flow of the water? Did
they have toilets and sinks? How did they dispose of waste? Since Pompeii (and Herculaneum) were
so well preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, archaeologists have been able to
answer these questions and more. Studying the use of water in Pompeian homes teaches us about the
level of technology available to them and also offers us insight ... Show more content on

A slab with a hole in its center (to allow a bucket to be lowered into the cistern) would be placed over
the cistern s neck, and the hole in the slab would be covered with a puteal, a cylindrical lid that
protects the water from debris (150). Since wells were expensive and cisterns depended on regular
rain, Pompeii eventually had to build a system of pipes in order to satisfy the demand for clean water.
Pompeii s aqueduct brought water to the castellum aquae, a large reservoir where the water was
filtered and disbursed to the city through three main pipes (Laurence 44; Water Systems 152). The
main pipes connected to other pipes throughout the city and distributed water to places like public
fountains, baths, pools, and private homes. Water in the Home Although many Pompeians depended
on pipes for a constant supply of water, not all citizens could afford to have water piped directly into
their homes. These people carried water from the public fountains that were spaced relatively
regularly throughout the city: most citizens lived within eighty metres of a fountain (Laurence 50).
While the fountains served a number of people, many citizens were able to have private pipe
connections, allowing water to flow directly into their homes. Leaving the castellum aquae, the water
would flow to public water towers, where the pressure would be adjusted and water would be
distributed to public and private targets

Hymn To Odyn Analysis
Apollo Hymn Homer s hymn to Pythian Apollo is written as a homage to Apollo, composed of stories
illustrating the important aspects of his life. Homer goes on to describe in detail how Apollo wishes to
find a suitable site for his all knowing oracle, how he ultimately decides upon building his temple at
the site of Delphi, Hera s birth to the monstrous Typhaon, and conclusively, how Apollo recruits his
Cretan followers or priests. The hymn opens with a description of worship for the god Apollo, while
he plays his lyre. With the first few notes of his song, the other immortals quickly gather to the place
where the melody can be heard. Apollo s music is entrancing, all present are intrigued by the beautiful
music that is playing, and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homer goes on to describe how as Apollo was considering how to acquire these followers, he took
notice of a passing ship on the sea full of Cretan sailors. Intercepting them on their journey, Apollo
transformed into a dolphin and lept upon their boat, and caused the ship to shake with his mighty
power. The sailors, unrecognizing of the god, became fearful and followed the powerful wind that lead
them to Crisa. Once upon the shore, Apollo revealed his true and mighty form to the sailors installing
an awesome fear in each of them (278) and they rejoiced in serving him. With the aid of Apollo, the
sailors all became initiated so they may devote themselves to the practices and worship of Apollo.
This story highlights how Apollo came to be known as Apollo Delphinios, the root of the word
meaning dolphin, and likewise, how the location received the name Delphi. Along with the tales
asserting Apollo s birth and origin, the hymn also discusses Hera and the monster Typhaon that she
creates. Enraged with her husband Zeus, since he has on his own born the wise goddess Athena from
his forehead, Hera hopes to give birth a monster that will become famous among mortals, but will not
go against the sacred marriage vow that she and Zeus share. Hera prayed to the Earth and the
Heavens, as well as Tartarus, asking them for a child who will have strong enough powers to rival
even Zeus and his own father Cronus. The Earth

Horton took the company through a period of restructuring and was accused of a number of poor

The Canada s Aging Population
The Canada s aging population, those 55 years and older, stands at 30.8% of the Canada s total. This
segment of Canada s population is growing due to demographic factors such as births and deaths rates,
health and immigration, and will continue to grow for the next 50 years. Because of advances in
medicine, health and nutrition, Canadians are living longer and are more active. Many of them too,
have more disposable income than earlier generations of aged population. They see themselves as
alive, active and accomplishing , and higher percentage of are working into older age. They have
significant and varied, current, new and changing needs for services, some age specific, in the areas of

What is aging anyway? The term aging refers to a complex process of biological, physical,

Greek Art And Greek Architecture
Greece No matter where you are, chances are you have witness an inspiring piece of Greece art and
Greece architecture. Whether it s a building, furniture, or pottery, you have seen ideas that started from
Greek. Even houses have resemblance to some of the most famous buildings we seen throughout
history. The architecture of ancient Greece is defined by the temples built to glorify their gods and
goddesses and express pride in their cities. Though in today s world we may not glorify gods and
goddesses when we began to design a home, but we do know how to turn once traditional into a more
contemporary feel. Modern Greek architecture is generally constructed with wood, unbaked bricks,
limestone and marble, and terracotta and metals. Contractors today still use the methods, and of all the
architectural designs used by ancient Greeks throughout history, three major systems have withstood
the test of time and are still used today. Doric, Ionic and Corinthian styles have their own
characteristics, but, however they can look very similar.
The Doric (sturdiest) was based on the proportions of a man. It was the first order and arguably the
most famous Greek system used in today s world. It seemed to have known base and has the simplest
capital atop the fluted shaft. The Parthenon communicated the ideals of the order and harmony for
what Greek architecture is known for.

Blessed Be Research Paper
Blessed Be originates from The Five Fold Kiss , a ritual created by the found of Wicca, Gerald
Gardner, as the main Initiation Rite. It is commonly done during dedication and initiation rites. The
Five Fold Kiss ritual involves kissing five parts of the body and performed within a circle, each kiss
given is accompanied by a blessing. Blessed Be is used to grant the blessings of the deity onto a
person in a sacred way, asking the powers that be to invoke a person in countless religions. Like
countless many, I simply assumed that the term Blessed Be was a form of granting blessing upon
another person as we departed from one another; no different than saying Good bye , but now I
understand that it has a higher meaning than that. I do not use it in my life at the moment as I am still

or it is needed for myself during a ritual or casting. I know now it is not something to be taken lightly.

The History of Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt Essay
The History of Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt
Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both cradles of civilization. Both contributed greatly to human
development through their achievements, failures, peoples, scientific accomplishments, philosophies,
religions, and contributions.
Mesopotamia is a rich flat plain created by deposits from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. At the
southern end of this plain developed the first recognizable civilization, in the area known as Sumer. In
3000 B.C. Sumer contained a dozen or more city states, each ruled by its own king and worshiped its
own patron deity. The citizens of these city states were classified into three classes: nobles and priests,
commoners, and slaves. In the center of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ruler of this dynasty was Ur Nammu. He was the first ruler to establish law codes and spell out
regulations and penalties.
Another great ruler was King Hammurabi of Babylon. He set up the Code of Hammurabi, which
includes 300 sections of carefully organized codes that ruled the Babylonians. Hammurabi was the
first example of a lawgiver. He provided one of the greatest written documents of his time: a stone
column with a long series of legal judgments published with his name. Hammurabi even designed
codes for the family life. He took care of the women and children in his society. He regulated marriage
with care to secure a stable life for future generations. He combined both law and religious belief to
create an ordered society. The Mesopotamians built on foundations laid by the Sumerians using their
sexagesimal system. They had multiplication tables, exponents, tables for computing interest, and
textbooks with problems for solution. They also developed systems of astrology and astronomy, and
even created a lunar calendar.
The early cities of Mesopotamia fell from one warlord to another, and were constantly changing,
unlike the kingdoms of Ancient Egypt that kept its stability. The Egyptians lived along the Nile River,
which probably made it easier to govern the people. The King was the owner and ruler of all Egypt
and was considered a god by the people. The economy was a royal monopoly, the peoples duties was
to serve the King. In the old Kingdom

s viable by understanding the perspectives within it and determining what unique angle you can offer
to the conversation. Under each prompt or question below, provide detailed information that shares
information about your topic.
1. What is your chosen topic, and how did you come across it? Why is it interesting to you? What do
you personally hope to gain or accomplish by writing about this topic?

It also shows that there are more African American and Latina teen births than any other race. It s
shown that most teen parents end up parenting alone because the males aren t mature enough. Teens
that live in a house with multiple generations are more likely to succeed because they have parental
support. Some may suggest that the reason for so many teen births is because of the reality show 16
pregnant and the media. This could be true because of the way that they glamourize being pregnant.
Young girls will look up to them and want to become like them.
Another source shows that the show is a form of birth control to some girls. Some believe that what
they see the moms go through is just another indication of why they shouldn t become pregnant. Some
things shown on the show will make you not want to become pregnant at such a young age. Still
having to go through high school and deal with pregnancy hormones is a lot to handle. Then, having
to deal with the baby s father walking out is very stressful. Most young men who get young girls
pregnant flee when they re told the news. The Parents Television Council criticizes the show and
believe they re intent is wrong.

Professional Review Quotes About Music Are Mixed And Tell...
*professional review quotes about music are mixed and tell about how they are talking about music,
more details. My group and I decided to review the movie Rent. Rent was released in 2005. The film,
also a musical, was an adaptation of a broadway stage play. It follows the lives of several characters in
the late 1980s and into the early 1990s. The film covers the topics of many horrible things that were
affecting the lives of many people back in that time era. The topics include poverty, HIV/AIDS, and
discrimination of same sex couples. The main characters are: Mark Cohen, who is filming the life of
all of the characters and an up and coming filmmaker; Mimi Marquez, a drug addict and stripper, who
is also HIV positive; Roger Davis, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They told me of the emotions that the characters were feeling. I also beginning to see how each person
had a different storyline, yet it was the same storyline. This was what cause the characters to come
together effortlessly and create my favorite musical. Based on my feelings towards the film. I
expected the popular reviews to discuss the music and the controversial topics. I expected the same
from the film critics and academic writers; however, I felt that the academic writers would be more
detailed and opinionated in their discussion. The popular reviews tend to focus on the music, the issue
of AIDS, and the setting. They praise the director and producer for keeping the true feel and realistic
quality of a New York City project. They also dote on the characters and their singing abilities.
However, I tend to find more praise going towards Rosario Dawson, who played Mimi. One viewer
states, Rosario Dawson s portrayal as Mimi was phenomenal. Her Out Tonight dancing, however, is
hot and floored every male in the room (Popular Review #2). Another viewer says, Her (Rosario
Dawson) singing of Without You is sure to bring the house down in tears. If there s any wisdom left in
the bunch, watch to see her rewarded by the Academy come award nomination time (Popular Review
#3). While Popular Reviewer gloats, Dawson is strikingly beautiful and captures Mimi s desperate
energy perfectly. With

Why was Germany unable to translate tactical and operational victories into strategic success during
World War II? More pointedly and stated simpler, why did Germany loose World War II?
Why Germany lost the war (despite its early tactical successes) is a simple question with a complex
answer. And, over the years since Germany s surrender at Reims, France on May 7, 1945, scholars and
historians have provided a number of arguments to warrant their perspective answers. Consequently

Because Hitler s vision did not translate into an effective strategic plan, with clear strategic objectives
a disconnect between what Germany wanted to achieve (ends), the way it wanted to achieve it (ways),
and the resources it would choose to utilize (means) was created. As such, it is this disconnection that
also played a large role in Germany s failure to translate its tactical and operational victories into
strategic success and overall victory. Examples of this disconnect and the calamitous effects are
clearly present in a quick analysis of the Battle of Britain.
During the Battle of Britain, Germany wanted to achieve air superiority but ultimately failed to defeat
the Royal Air Force (RAF). Hitler ordered the Lufwaffe to destroy the RAF in preparation for
Operation Sealion which was Germany s invasion plan for Britain. Although numerous factors
contributed to Hitler s decision to attack Britain, in keeping with his one front at a time war
methodology, Hitler wanted to secure the Western Front prior to invading the Soviet Union. Initially,
directed by Hermann Goering (commander in chief of the Lufwaffe) Germany targeted Britain s
coastal areas and convoys, airports, and vital British air warning and radar

The Existence Of Ancient Chinese Medicine
In ancient China, it was relatively rare to dissect or otherwise violate human bodies because of a
teaching from Confucius that the human body is sacred and not to be cut with a knife^, therefore the
knowledge of anatomy in ancient China weren t often based on scientific knowledge, but instead
assumption and reasoning.^ Thus many, if not all, of Chinese medicine are considered pseudoscience
because it lacks scientific evidence for its effectiveness.^ Any effects from following traditional
Chinese medicine are most likely to be psychological, as opposed to any actual biological healing
taking place. And so, it s still important to advise caution when using conventional medicines and go

Masculine Portrayals In The Roaring Girl And Tamburlaine
Toxic Masculine Portrayals in The Roaring Girl and Tamburlaine The portrayals of men in
Renaissance literature and plays is wrought with various aspects of toxic masculinity. Masculinity in
works such as Tamburlaine the Great or The Roaring Girl is shown in different ways and with varying
degrees of spectacle. Tamburlaine displays his masculinity through hyper violent acts and high
degrees of spectacle, whereas characters such as Laxton and Dapper flaunt their masculinity in
different, less violently spectacular means, however, they still participate in embodying the toxic
masculine ideal. Understanding masculinity and how it is defined at the time is important to grasping
why the portrayals of it in various works involve the aspects that they do. Masculinity as it exists now
is a fluid concept, yet in the past leading up the Renaissance it was treated as a rigid set of rules that
men must uphold to be perceived as masculine and in turn make headway in a patriarchal society.
Ideas about masculinity and femininity are beginning to be questioned more during the Renaissance in
interesting ways, especially when these ideas are presented in the world of the theatre. Men in this
time period are expected to be the backbone of their households and held up as a woman s closet tie to
God, right below their clergymen. These expectations come with backlash. With the expectation of
men to be the protectors and providers of their households and out in the world at large, violence,

Ordeals In The Middle Ages
Decisions were made by a jury of twelve elected copyholders, sworn. In any contested case, unless an
agreement was made outside the court, an inquisition would be held in which the jury would make a
decision and then apply a penalty in accordance with the custom of the manor. Juries were made up of
local men, who had usually lived their lives in the manor, and so were considered to have the
necessary knowledge to judge the matter concerned and to be familiar with manorial custom

Their punishments for crimes were life threating. The harsher the crime the worst the punishment. For
example, if a man committed Rape, Manslaughter or Robbery they would be hung up in a cage so
people could see their slow death. If you steal you get you hand cut off. Even the church used harsh
punishments and torture in their justice system. One famous type of harsh reinforcement are the
ordeals. The ordeals where sometimes used to prove innocence if the oath helps were not there. There
are many different types of ordeals. One of the many different ordeals were the ordeal by battles.
Ordeal by battle was when two nobles fought, usually until one of them died. The winner was
assumed to be innocent because they thought God would protect the innocent person. A noblemen did
not have to fight in battle. They could pick someone that was experienced to fight their battle. Another
ordeal is by cold water. The accused were thrown in water. If the accused floated they were guilty of
the crime they were accused of. If they sank they were innocence and sometimes died. Another ordeal
was the ordeal by fire. This ordeal consisted of both the accused and accuser to hold a hot iron bar for

Song To The Siren Allusion
The allusion of the Sirens in each of the song lyrics given creates a mood revolving around
hopelessness. In both songs, the allusion reinforces the fact that the speaker wants something that they
cannot have, similar to the sailors and the Sirens. In Carolina, Eric Church sings, I d love to see my
mama/ Maybe go for a drive/ But I gotta play the star in some little town again tonight (Church). This
signifies the fact that the artist wants to go back to his hometown, but cannot, because his occupation
prevents him. In Song to the Siren, Tim Buckley cries out, ...let me enfold you/ Here I am, here I am,
waiting to hold you (Buckley). This lyric illustrates how the speaker longs to love and be loved by the

The book was written by Mary Shelley in 1817 and portrays her life by what happened to her and to

There are not to many similarities between the book and original movie. The main similarity is that
there is a monster. The monster is created by human body parts and sewn together with a brain that is
alive and he uses it to create life. In both Frankenstein the one who creates the monster is scared to
death of his creation. He is terrified when the creature wakes up because he thinks it is a great creation

  • 2. My Brother s Gameboy Essay As a child the things that meant the most to me were shiny, colorful, and utterly unattainable. From a young age I was taught that taking what was not yours without asking was unbelievably wrong and would result in a never ending timeout. Fearing an eternity spent sat in a corner thinking about what I had just done I made an early habit of asking for things I wanted and forgetting about the things I could not have. Unfortunately this lifestyle could only last so long and so at only four years old the temptation became too much and I had convinced myself that the only solution was to take what was not given to me. The year was 2001 and my older brother had recently been given a brand new GameBoy Advanced. This incredible technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Confused I exclaimed You died. It s my turn! to which Joey quickly retorted I did not! They just fainted there is no death in this game. You don t get a turn. Stunned, a feeling mixed between betrayal and disappointment washed over me. I had asked nicely and yet I was denied the chance to play. Unsure of what to do with myself now that I was not allowed to have the one thing I desired I found my way to my room. Needing a place to think I rolled under my bed and let the emotions settle in. Disappointment won out as the more overwhelming emotion and I began to plot a way to take what I felt was rightfully mine. I soon realized that I had no real idea of how to enact my plan and became more frustrated. I knew I needed a second opinion and intended to speak to Lucky when I realized that in my fit of despair I had left him behind. I decided that a rescue mission was in order and climbed out from under my bed. Sneaking through the house I reached my brother s room and was shocked to find only Lucky there. I raced over lifting him from the bed and hugging him close knowing he was once again safe. I turned to leave but right before I could I noticed a faint noise coming from within the blankets. Lifting them I found true temptation. There sat Joey s GameBoy taunting me as I stared in wonderment. It dawned on me that I could just go back to my room and find a different way to get the chance to play but with no one in sight I decided that taking it now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For those that are unable to work due to age or disabilities, the government has an assistance program in place. The French also have a pension system that is similar to Social Security in the United States. The system is a pay as you go one. Both the employer and employee give to this pension fund. Coming from a home with both parents, exceptional neighborhood, and growing up in church all my life has taught me many lessons in life that eventually influence many of my decisions. Where I come from has influenced me a lot. While I did grow up in a stable home, I also experienced many bad things in different surroundings in my life that have influenced me to focus on my education and make a difference in my community. I spent many summers staying with my grandmother who lived in a rough neighborhood. Spending time in that neighborhood during a number of summers have exposed me witnessing the struggle of many different people and also seeing people like my own brother be badly affected by his environment in a rough neighborhood being lead to make bad decisions in life. Seeing my brother drop out of high school, join a gang, and eventually end up in bad area in his life influenced me to pursue my education and go to college to be the best I could be so I wouldn t end up in the same position that he did. Native Americans And Western Medicine Understanding Native Americans and Western Medicine Essential Knowledge for Providing Culturally Competent Care to Native Americans Brittany Schelitzche Writing for Healthcare Hennepin Technical College Native Americans and Western Medicine: Essential Knowledge for Providing Culturally Competent Care to Native Americans Many Alaskan Natives and Native Indians, also known as American Indians, share the same or similar views on health and medicine. Their definition of traditional medicine incorporates medicine and religion, various chants and rituals, and being one with Earth (Broome, B., Broome, R., 2007). In the United States we are challenged to think about health care from our tradition as a cultural melting pot. Therefore, we must address the large range of individual health care needs from populations living the inner city and suburbia to those in rural environments. (O Brien, Anslow, Begay, Pereira, Sullivan, 2002). It is important for healthcare workers to understand the views of American Indians in order to integrate their traditional medicine as well as western medicine. Examining areas such as common health conditions, treatments, and attitudes towards health, natural and alternative health will lead to a better capability of providing culturally competent care. • 8. Insanity Defense Insanity The insanity defense is a hot topic in today s crime dramas. Ask a television saturated college student how often they believe this defense is used in court and they estimate that it is employed about one third of the time (Lilienfeld 8). In reality, this defense is only used rarely, with a successful attempt being even rarer. Even as a cultural sensitivity to mental illness is cultivated in schools and workplaces, the court remains a skeptical harbinger of judgement to the mentally ill, more often handing down punishment when treatment is needed than excusing a guilty man of his crime. Controversy surrounding the morality of the insanity defense is heavy, posing significant questions that can shape the future relationship between insanity and the justice system in the United States. [CLARIFY THESIS] The evolution of the insanity defense has taken place over hundreds of years; the earliest records of criminals pardoned for madness date back to the sixteenth century. However, the first instance of a court defense most resembling today s insanity plea took place in 1843, titled the M Naghten rule. Although this case took place in England, the policy born from it was adopted by the United States soon after (Rolf 2). Another test that is widely used in the United States, the Durham test, originated in New Hampshire in 1871. The third test was brought about by the American Law Institute in 1955. Though the mother in this essay uses extraordinary words and is obviously a well educated woman, the diction used by the speaker is generally straightforward to the average person; therefore, it can be concluded that the story was written for the average person. The terms used are nonetheless very specific and suited to their purpose of describing the mother, especially with several precise adjectives appearing constantly. The mother has an emotional voice (p. 78), holds unpopular, even fantastic, positions (p. 78), and gives a vibrantly innocent look (p. 77) after destroying a game of bridge. However, the essay does require thinking, as several of the examples of the mother s behavior and phrases that she employs are very clever and include a much more sophisticated diction, as is true in the mother s life. When she responds to the question Save stamps? (p. 75) with No...I build model airplanes (p. 75). Even the speaker could not understand what her meant for years, which was that building model airplanes was her hobby, not collecting stamps. Intermittently, between 1921 and 1945, he served on the council for over fifteen years. First elected to Parliament in 1929 for Birmingham Erdington, he remained loyal to the Labour Party when two of his political patrons, Oswald Mosley and Ramsey Macdonald, did not. Generally supportive of Mosley until the latter formed the New Party, Simmons was anguished by Macdonald s decision to form the National Government in 1931. As an MP, the rights of ex servicemen of all ranks remained one of his priorities; a disabled private soldier himself, he utilized his experience to campaign for others. He also spoke in favour of disarmament, limitations on military expenditure and support for the League of Nations. The strength of his convictions on these issues led him to defy the Labour Whip on occasion; in March 1930 he spoke in favour and voted for an amendment to the Air estimates that would have virtually abolished the Air Force. Identify The Different Types Of Sports Players The Different Types of Sport Players Playing three sports throughout high school has given me the opportunity to notice that there are at least three common types of players in every sport. Being apart of many different sports throughout my life has shown me that it doesn t matter if it s little league, high school, or just playing around with some friends on the weekends, but every sport has led me to notice that there are three main types of players: the team player, the me player, and the bench player. The team player is widely known to be all about team. They are hard working in practice and in games. They work hard to put most of their focus on the team, making sure everyone else s focus is on the same thing and that no one is selfish. The team player is usually awarded being a captain of some sort, someone the players consider a leader. The team player could either get a lot of playing time or ... They are less worried about the team and more worried about the playing time he or she is receiving in games, whether the coach is watching him or her when he or she does something good. He or she have talent, and he or she knows the coach notices his or her skills. The second is where he or she is very bad, and has no talent, yet they still want to try to earn the spotlight. Lastly, we have the bench player. The bench player sits on the bench cheering on his or her team. The bench player has some skill and is sometimes used as second or third string player. Mostly, the bench player is used in practice; their job is to work the really good players, (the starters) to practice and train them in such a way that the next game, they play well. • 21. Negative Effects Of Radiation The word radiation means several things such as radio waves and light. When such types of radiation travel through substances, it can become charged electrically. When it is also in a tissue that is living, the ions that were produced by the radiation can affect biological processes (IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). There are several ways people are exposed to radiation, including x rays, radiation used to diagnose diseases and for cancer therapy, nuclear explosive testing that goes wrong, small quantities of radioactive materials released into the environment from coal and nuclear power plants, etc. (IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), n.d.). The radiation that is emitted from cell phones, X ray machines, and nuclear power plants are very different. They are all energy, but the difference is that unlike the others, cell phones are not radioactive, and harms the body, unlike the others (Ornes, 2011). The phones operate by altering your voice into a radio wave, which it dispatches with an antenna that it also uses to receive the radio waves from the other line, which it changes to a voice that the user can comprehend. Since the radio waves are also a type of radiation, if the user s phone is close to the user s head, the tissues can absorb the radiation, which hasn t yet been confirmed, but could later on be the cause of a brain tumor or disease, since the use of cell phones didn t start until about 15 years ago (Ornes, 2009). Studies show that spending 50 minutes or more with an active phone near your ear increases harmful brain activity because when cell phones are actively working, the radiation they emit could hurt you, after years of using a cell phone. Although there is a lot of evidence that suggests that cell phones are harmful, scientists, are still not completely sure (Ornes, 2011). SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is the rate measurement of how much radiation your body s tissues can absorb when you are using a cellphone. The SAR for a cellphone is set for a limit of 1.6 watts of energy absorbed per kilogram of body weight (Highest and Lowest Radiation Cell Phones, 2017). A daring plan arises soon after the successful invasion of Normandy; this plan, alternatively, ends in disaster. Had everything gone as the good General Bernard Montgomery had hoped, the war would have been finished by Christmas; a large blow against the Germans was needed to relieve the troops in Normandy, who were then facing both German soldiers and difficult, unfamiliar terrain. General Montgomery had devised a plan that would push the Allies through Holland and past the strongest of Germany s defences. The idea was simple: the Allied Airborne Division would drop paratroopers in, who would then take eight important bridges around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. These troops would then fight through Nazi controlled Holland and into the heart of Germany, winning the war. The historic battle of Arnhem was codenamed Operation Market Garden. When it was conceived, the idea was that a quick strike through Holland and into Germany would be able to end the war and bring relief to the troops battling through terrain and soldiers in Normandy. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don t like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first floor or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking at everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of us because there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. Map/Reduce is a structure for preparing parallelizable issues crosswise over gigantic datasets utilizing a substantial number of PCs (hubs), all things considered alluded to as a group i.e. if all hubs are on the same local network and use the same hardware) or a framework i.e. if the hubs are shared crosswise over geologically and authoritatively conveyed systems, and use a more heterogenous hardware. Map/Reduce can exploit domain of data, preparing it on or close to the storage resources with a specific end goal to reduce the length over which it must be transmitted. Jiaxing et al. proposes SUDO, an advancement system that reasons about data partition characteristics, working properties, and data shuffling. They contend that reasoning about data partition properties crosswise phases opens up chances to reduce extravagant data shuffling. For instance, in the event that we realize that data partitions from past computation phases as of now have alluring properties for the following phase, we have the method to stay away from superfluous data shuffling steps. The fundamental obstruction to reasoning about data partition properties crosswise over processing phases is the utilization of UDFs [4]. How was the water transported to individual homes? How were they able to control the flow of the water? Did they have toilets and sinks? How did they dispose of waste? A slab with a hole in its center (to allow a bucket to be lowered into the cistern) would be placed over the cistern s neck, and the hole in the slab would be covered with a puteal, a cylindrical lid that protects the water from debris (150). Since wells were expensive and cisterns depended on regular rain, Pompeii eventually had to build a system of pipes in order to satisfy the demand for clean water. Pompeii s aqueduct brought water to the castellum aquae, a large reservoir where the water was filtered and disbursed to the city through three main pipes (Laurence 44; Water Systems 152). The main pipes connected to other pipes throughout the city and distributed water to places like public fountains, baths, pools, and private homes. Water in the Home Although many Pompeians depended on pipes for a constant supply of water, not all citizens could afford to have water piped directly into their homes. These people carried water from the public fountains that were spaced relatively regularly throughout the city: most citizens lived within eighty metres of a fountain (Laurence 50). While the fountains served a number of people, many citizens were able to have private pipe connections, allowing water to flow directly into their homes. Leaving the castellum aquae, the water would flow to public water towers, where the pressure would be adjusted and water would be distributed to public and private targets ... The sailors, unrecognizing of the god, became fearful and followed the powerful wind that lead them to Crisa. In 3000 B.C. Sumer contained a dozen or more city states, each ruled by its own king and worshiped its own patron deity. The citizens of these city states were classified into three classes: nobles and priests, commoners, and slaves. In the center of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ruler of this dynasty was Ur Nammu. He was the first ruler to establish law codes and spell out regulations and penalties. Another great ruler was King Hammurabi of Babylon. He set up the Code of Hammurabi, which includes 300 sections of carefully organized codes that ruled the Babylonians. Hammurabi was the first example of a lawgiver. He provided one of the greatest written documents of his time: a stone column with a long series of legal judgments published with his name. Hammurabi even designed codes for the family life. He took care of the women and children in his society. He regulated marriage with care to secure a stable life for future generations. He combined both law and religious belief to create an ordered society. The Mesopotamians built on foundations laid by the Sumerians using their sexagesimal system. They had multiplication tables, exponents, tables for computing interest, and textbooks with problems for solution. They also developed systems of astrology and astronomy, and even created a lunar calendar. The early cities of Mesopotamia fell from one warlord to another, and were constantly changing, unlike the kingdoms of Ancient Egypt that kept its stability. The Egyptians lived along the Nile River, which probably made it easier to govern the people. The King was the owner and ruler of all Egypt and was considered a god by the people. The economy was a royal monopoly, the peoples duties was to serve the King. In the old Kingdom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My group and I decided to review the movie Rent. Rent was released in 2005. The film, also a musical, was an adaptation of a broadway stage play. It follows the lives of several characters in the late 1980s and into the early 1990s. The film covers the topics of many horrible things that were affecting the lives of many people back in that time era. The topics include poverty, HIV/AIDS, and discrimination of same sex couples. I also beginning to see how each person had a different storyline, yet it was the same storyline. This was what cause the characters to come together effortlessly and create my favorite musical. Based on my feelings towards the film. I expected the popular reviews to discuss the music and the controversial topics. I expected the same from the film critics and academic writers; however, I felt that the academic writers would be more detailed and opinionated in their discussion. The popular reviews tend to focus on the music, the issue of AIDS, and the setting. They praise the director and producer for keeping the true feel and realistic quality of a New York City project. They also dote on the characters and their singing abilities. However, I tend to find more praise going towards Rosario Dawson, who played Mimi. One viewer states, Rosario Dawson s portrayal as Mimi was phenomenal. Her Out Tonight dancing, however, is hot and floored every male in the room (Popular Review #2). Another viewer says, Her (Rosario Dawson) singing of Without You is sure to bring the house down in tears. If there s any wisdom left in the bunch, watch to see her rewarded by the Academy come award nomination time (Popular Review #3). While Popular Reviewer gloats, Dawson is strikingly beautiful and captures Mimi s desperate energy perfectly. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because Hitler s vision did not translate into an effective strategic plan, with clear strategic objectives a disconnect between what Germany wanted to achieve (ends), the way it wanted to achieve it (ways), and the resources it would choose to utilize (means) was created. As such, it is this disconnection that also played a large role in Germany s failure to translate its tactical and operational victories into strategic success and overall victory. Examples of this disconnect and the calamitous effects are clearly present in a quick analysis of the Battle of Britain. During the Battle of Britain, Germany wanted to achieve air superiority but ultimately failed to defeat the Royal Air Force (RAF). Hitler ordered the Lufwaffe to destroy the RAF in preparation for Operation Sealion which was Germany s invasion plan for Britain. Although numerous factors contributed to Hitler s decision to attack Britain, in keeping with his one front at a time war methodology, Hitler wanted to secure the Western Front prior to invading the Soviet Union. Initially, directed by Hermann Goering (commander in chief of the Lufwaffe) Germany targeted Britain s coastal areas and convoys, airports, and vital British air warning and radar ... • 42. Masculine Portrayals In The Roaring Girl And Tamburlaine Toxic Masculine Portrayals in The Roaring Girl and Tamburlaine The portrayals of men in Renaissance literature and plays is wrought with various aspects of toxic masculinity. Masculinity in works such as Tamburlaine the Great or The Roaring Girl is shown in different ways and with varying degrees of spectacle. Tamburlaine displays his masculinity through hyper violent acts and high degrees of spectacle, whereas characters such as Laxton and Dapper flaunt their masculinity in different, less violently spectacular means, however, they still participate in embodying the toxic masculine ideal. Understanding masculinity and how it is defined at the time is important to grasping why the portrayals of it in various works involve the aspects that they do. Masculinity as it exists now is a fluid concept, yet in the past leading up the Renaissance it was treated as a rigid set of rules that men must uphold to be perceived as masculine and in turn make headway in a patriarchal society. Ideas about masculinity and femininity are beginning to be questioned more during the Renaissance in interesting ways, especially when these ideas are presented in the world of the theatre. Men in this time period are expected to be the backbone of their households and held up as a woman s closet tie to God, right below their clergymen. These expectations come with backlash.
