aircraft icing Essay
Introduction
Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with the general public
that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times, although the majority
of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and mechanical failure. In much of
aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing factor. It is impossible however to
blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are so varied. Reasoning for
plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of categories.
Environmental conditions play a vital part in aviation as a whole. Much planning goes into a flight

This accident could have been avoided if proper procedure was followed in deicing.
The NTSB investigation concluded that the combination of the crew s use of thrust reverse on the
ground for push back, and their failure to active the engine anti ice system caused the crash. By failing
to activate the engine anti ice system, large amounts of snow and ice that were sucked into the engines
during reverse thrust were allowed to remain there. Ice built up on the compressor inlet pressure
probe, which measures engine power. As a result instrument indications in the cockpit showed an
Engine Pressure Ratio of 2.04, while the power plants were in reality only producing 1.70 EPR, or
about 70% of available power. The combination of the ice covered wings and low power caused an
immediate stall on takeoff killing 74 people. (Kilroy, 9).
In Americans Eagle Flight 4184 October 31, 1994, heavy air traffic and poor weather postponed the
arrival of this flight at Chicago s O Hare International Airport, where it was to have landed en route
from Indianapolis, Indiana.
The ATR 72, a twin engine turboprop carrying 68 people, entered a holding pattern 65 miles southeast
of O Hare, which it maintained for over an hour in freezing rain. As the plane circled, a ridge of ice
formed on the upper surface of its wings, eventually causing the aircraft s autopilot to suddenly
disconnect and the pilots to lose control. The ATR disintegrated on impact with a field below, killing
everyone aboard.

Genetic Testing or Genetic Screening
Genetic testing, also known as screening, is a rapidly advancing new scientific field that can
potentially revolutionize not only the world of medicine, but many aspects of our lives. Genetic
screening is the sequencing of human DNA in order to discover genetic differences, anomalies, or
mutations that may prove pathological. As genetic screening becomes more advanced and easily
accessible, it presents society with difficult questions that must be asked about the boundaries of
science and to what degree we are allowed to tamper with the human genome. To better understand
the potential impact of genetic screening on our society, we must examine the potential benefits in
comparison to the possible negative impact it may cause. With this ... Show more content on

335). There are many reasons to support further research into genetic screening but unfortunately such
a complicated and controversial field also brings up ethical, legal and social issues that need to be
addressed. One of the greatest issues surrounding genetic screening is one of privacy and potential
discrimination. Some people fear that a predictive test that shows someone is at higher risk of
developing a particular condition can be used against said person. Employers could become interested
in knowing the probabilities of their workers developing chronic conditions, which might lead to
hiring discrimination. Genetic predispositions towards certain diseases could also be used to deny
health insurance to some individuals. This may seem unlikely but it is an issue that definitely warrants
concern. Brynne Stainsby s father was diagnosed with the gene that causes degenerative brain
disorder, meaning she had one in two odds of developing Huntington s disease. When preparing to
start her own chiropractic practice she learned that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to
get covered if she possesses this same gene. Simply coming from a family that was predisposed to
Huntington s disease was enough to disqualify her from life or disability insurance. Many people find
it hard to believe that such discrimination could occur in a country as

The Causes Of The American And French Revolution
The American Revolution began with armed conflict in April of 1775 when battles between British
troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord started. The conflict started from growing
tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the colonial
government, which represented the British crown. The American Revolution lasted until 1783 and
resulted in victory and independence for the colonies. The French Revolution began in 1789 and
ended in 1799 with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. The conflict started because of rising social and
economic inequality, new political ideas emerging from the Enlightenment, economic
mismanagement, environmental factors leading to agricultural failure, unmanageable national debt,
and political mismanagement on the part of King Louis XVI have all been cited as laying the
groundwork for the Revolution. The American and French Revolution were fundamentally similar
because they both were about freedom from oppression, removing economic turmoil and new ideality.
One of the reasons why the American and French Revolution was started because they both were
being oppressed. The Americans were being oppressed by the English, who controlled their
government and the French were being oppressed by their own government. The major turning point
of the American Revolution was July 4th, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. In
the context of the 18th century, liberty was freedom from oppression,

A Line Between Sweet And Skimpy
You see a girl wearing a crop top and booty shorts that show off almost all there is to see, what is your
first thought? In the minds of most women it is, What does she think she is wearing? or I can t believe
her parents let her wear that. Some men will think the same; others will think more provocative things.
If you want to give them the freedom to choose what they wear make sure they know how others will
view them and what the consequences can be before you hand over the reins, but there should still be
an age limit. Middle school sounds sort of like a good time to start. The age at which a child thought
they should make their own decisions was at least 20 years old way back when, but that is not the case
in recent years. It seems that children are starting younger and younger these days and the age that
they start to make their own decisions is continuously decreasing. There has been word of some cases
starting even younger than intermediate high school (middle school). As Bruce Feiler states in his
piece A Line Between Sweet and Skimpy that his own daughters came to a family gathering in
provocative clothing when they were only 8 years old. This just seems ridiculous, it s easy to agree
that in all honesty people are not fully mature enough to make their own decisions until between the
ages 21 27; yet children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While you may think you re doing the right thing by telling them what they look like is not as
important as how they act or who they are. It can still have negative affects if they don t understand
why they still should care about their appearance. If magazines are showing people who look this way
to express themselves, what s the big problem? Children shouldn t have to look through a magazine to
make a choice on what to wear. Nor should they be looking for it in what other girls wear. A parent s
job is to be a role model for their kids, whether it s in appearance or in

The Book Of Revelation, By The Old Testament And The New...
The Book of Revelation is conceivably the most fascinating of all the books in the Bible. It is a book
that prophesies about the signs pointing to the world s conditions just before the return of Jesus Chris,
and how each stage prepares for this up and coming event. Because prophecy is a large percentage of
the Bible, people say that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament
is the Old Testament revealed . Through the prophets, Scripture reveals a redeemer and the name of
Messiah. They foretell about Christ s birth, death and resurrection in the Old Testament and the New
Testament retells His real life stories. Because of this, a large part of the prophecy in both the Old and
New Testament according to Christians has been fulfilled. Yet, the Book of Revelation, the last book is
a writing of indistinguishable forces and mystical powers at work in the world as Satan sets up the
stages for the return of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
There are many fantastic subjects in Biblical prophecy. They set up the One Dimensional Kinematics
in the historical events like motions setting people up in a straight line leading all the verses to a real
time realization. The church is a major part of prophecy; and yet based on this common theme in
Christian theology, this can also reference a group of people who represent the religious dynamics
during the time. Yet, the number reason for the writings is the Lord Jesus Christ. Although other topics

Relationship Between Board Size And Firm Performance
.4 Discussion of Results
The results found in this study suggest that some of the relationships found during the literature
review can be confirmed. For example, the literature states that smaller boards of directors reduce the
coordination problems that lead to improved firm performance relative to larger boards of directors
(Kini et al, 1995; Yermack, 1996; Eisenberg et al, 1998). This study found significant empirical
evidence with the sample of FTSE 100 companies that this is the case which supports these findings.
It should be noted, that Haleblian and Finkelstein (1993) suggested sensibly that boards of directors
that are too small can also be hampered in their ability to monitor management particularly in complex
firms such as those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study instead found, in some cases when Tobin s q was used as the measure of firm performance,
that there could be a significant negative relationship between the proportion of external directors and
firm performance. No such relationship was found when ROA used as the measure of firm
performance. These results indicate that the significant relationship found might be spurious.
Also, the review of the literature found evidence that there should be a positive relationship between
shareholder concentration in the hands of significant minority shareholders but no such relationship
was found in the sample of FTSE 100 companies used in this study. Even after this study attempted to
correct for some data problems by removing those companies within the dataset where the
shareholding was concentrated in the hands of significant majority shareholders and their related
parties, there was no statistically significant relationship between shareholder concentration and firm
performance.
There are several possible explanations for the lack of strong relationships in this study. The first
concerns the choice of variables to be used as proxies for measuring firm performance. This study
chose to use the return on assets and Tobin s q and found that the results differed significantly
depending on the choice

The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent And Depraved Analysis
The story I chose to read was The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved, by Hunter S.
Thompson. The story is about at trip in which Thompson was to cover the race mentioned in the title.
He was to meet up with an English illustrator by the name of Ralph Steadman who in later years
would continue to collaborate with Thompson. Their task was to write about the race and in
Thompson s mind he d decided that he wanted to cover the decadent and depraved side of the derby.
Upon meeting Ralph the two began drinking heavily as they mingled with the other members of the
press as well as the rank and file celebrants of the race. Hunter being from Kentucky served as a

I was on my way back from a mission, when I was then encountered by a survivor. He proceeded in
telling me that there was cultist groups living outside of the infected filled quarantined city of Harran
have successfully controlled the virus. With the tower low on antizen and Camden s efforts to produce
a cure still unsuccessful, I decided to go investigate the supposed immunity. I headed out to the
countryside, where I discovered that many of the survivors out there have converted to a religious cult
called the Children of the Sun, who worship the Mother which is apparently the source of their
immunity to the virus. In order to earn the cult s trust and learn more about the immunity, I decide to
assist the survivors. Eventually, one of the Faceless, the high ranking members of the cult, approached
me and privately admits that their immunity is gained through a special elixir they had discovered, but

Racism For Dummies
How to deal with Racism for Dummies: AP Lit Edition With an ever growing and diversifying
population, race is a term that people have become more accustomed to. Many would say that as a
society, American citizens have taken steps to subdue and reduce racism. Others may say that the
government itself has adopted institutional policies to prevent racism. If such were to be true,
considering that those actions to fight racism have existed for at least a century, why is one not able to
see that those efforts to fight racism may be ineffective? Society for the past decades has built a
manner in which we assume that racism is wrong. Despite those efforts, hundreds of issues concerning
race continue occurring. Rather than taking perspective that racism is wrong, society should have a
more active focus on the population by providing education on how to respond correctly to issues that
can concern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this ideology, society as a whole can act against racism to a more efficient extent. Instead of just
simply simply stating racism is wrong, people will be able to learn to respond properly respond to
racism as how Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have; society will have a more tangible impact
towards racism. For decades, the racism was viewed along a motif that it is wrongful. It is present in
law, literature, arts, and simple morals. Many of those steps that society has taken focuses upon
highlighting the damage that racism causes to both an individual and society, yet, controversial racial
issues occur at an alarming rate. The first recorded major effort to subdue racism was the 14th
amendment, being approximately 150 years. Since then, this direction has integrated into society in
which people are taught that treating people differently according to race is wrongful. With that a
effort for at least a century and such problems persisting, Thomson Reuter argues, [that] it should be a
clear indicator that the current stance against

Sodomy In Texas Research Paper
Imagine you can t have sexual intimacy with your partner. Or, not in the way you d prefer. Before
2003, Texas had sodomy laws. These laws, in Texas, prevented specifically same sex couples from
engaging in sexual intercourse. In 2003, based on a call about a weapons disturbance, police officers
entered John Lawrence s apartment, where they found him and Tyron Garner engaged in sexual
intercourse. This went against the Sodomy Laws. They were brought to court, and eventually the case
was brought to Supreme Court; where Paul M. Smith argued that this law, this denial of privacy in a
way, was unconstitutional. It went against both the eighth and the fourteenth amendment. In the case
of Lawrence v Texas, the Supreme Court made the right decision

American Mariners History
The early modern sea particularly the Atlantic can be characterized as a space of great instability. It
was here that communication and trade between nations became easily accessible, but the lack of
uniform maritime regulations and commercial competition fostered hostility between states, resulting
in prolonged periods of war. One distinct product of this environment was pirates, who took to the
high seas in search of ships to illegally capture and raid of their goods. For the great maritime nations
of the 16th to 18th centuries, pirates were simply criminals that threatened the progress of the world
economy, but history has shown that they were much more complex figures. At the same time as they
were violent, ruthless, and defiant outlaws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reasons for becoming or turning pirate have been widely theorized, and it seems as though a
multitude of social, political, and economic factors were at play. On an individual level, the dangerous
and almost inevitably fatal nature of piracy makes it improbable that one would join a crew if they felt
as though they had other alternatives. Instead, it is more likely that piracy was a last resort refuge for a
dejected class of sailors who did not fit in with normative cultural standards, but could not escape the
fact that society dictated that they must work to survive regardless. Because piracy stemmed from a
distinctly maritime class and not the general landed population, it is easier to understand why it may
have been seen as a viable option. These men were already familiar with the principles of teamwork,
harmony, and trust that were

necessary to survive on a ship, and their lengthy voyages often made them ill adjusted to life on land.
There are two main reasons why a sailor would have crossed the line between legal and illegal
maritime service: perceived injustice and peacetime layoffs. Unlike the pirate ship, both navy and
merchant ships were more dictatorial than democratic; their captains were not

Essay on German Renaissance and Its Influence on Austrian...
The German renaissance took place during the sixteenth century in Europe. The Renaissance was a
time of discovery and learning. The word renaissance means rebirth or revival. The German
renaissance inspired just that, a revival and rebirth of education and art. The people of Europe became
interested in art and music during the renaissance. Education was also changing as the people became
more interested in sciences and philosophy. German art work from this time period was dominated by
local and independent schools. German art was largely based on the Gothic international style.
German art was also greatly influenced by work in the Netherlands, and became more influential as
time went on. The German artist Albrecht Durer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

for publishing, and it was commonplace for painters of the period to be equally skilled at making
woodcuts and engravings. As was customary for young men who finished their apprenticeships (Durer

pursuing his artistic talents and developing them into something great. Throughout Durer s life he will
make journeys to other countries in Europe to meet other artists and gain more knowledge about art
and science. Albrecht Durer s first journey began in 1492 when he tired to join the workshop of
German painter and engraver Martin Schongauer (Durer Microsoft online). Unfortunately schongauer
had recently died, but Durer was told to travel to the Swiss publishing center of Basel if he wanted to
find work. Once in Basel Durer began his work and created illustrations for several publications. Still
early in his life, Durer s art depicted his skills with lines and sharp observation of detail. His first
famous piece of art that really shows his skills with lines and detail can be seen in a series of self
portraits that he drew when he was twenty years old. Durer had returned to Nurnberg to marry Anges

Russi A Great And Catherine The Great
Russia has seen its fair share of autocratic monarchs as well, such as Peter the Great and Catherine the
Great. Peter first ascended the throne as co czar with his half brother Ivan V in the death of their
brother Feodore. Their elder sister, Sophia, was the most capable to take the throne. But being a girl,
she was unable to do so and could only rule as regent for the two princes turned czars. While Sophia
ruled, Peter spent his days building forts on the banks of a river outside of Moscow. He played war
games using them, recruiting in boys and arming them with real guns. The games were dangerous; 24
boys were once killed in a single game. But the games eventually paid off, and Peter had himself two
self trained armies that he used to overthrow Sophia and rule the throne himself. The regent was
forced into an enclosed convent, living as a nun for the rest of her days (Russia, Land of Tsars: Time
of Troubles).
Life in Russia had changed very little since the Middle Ages. Russia had not experienced a
Renaissance and was quite backwards in terms of lifestyle compared to Western Europe. Peter wanted
to change all that. He viewed the church as an impediment to progress in Russia, wanting to break
their restraining bonds of complex customs and modernize Russia (Russia, Land of Tsars: Time of
Troubles). It s time to constrain the authority not proper to the old man [i.e., the patriarch]; God
willing, it is for me to reform the laity and the clergy, for them I am both master and

Why Is Civil Disobedience Important
The law is meant to preserve order, safety, and other aspects of society, and generally should not be
disobeyed. However, civil disobedience is crucial to society. Civil disobedience improves society and
keeps society and government accountable to their respective duties.
Civil disobedience is a necessary civic duty, necessary to rein in government and society and keep
them accountable to their respective duties. An example of this is the release of the Pentagon Papers
by Daniel Ellsberg. The American government was being secretive about its actions in the Vietnam
War, and a democratic government should not be secretive about its actions. The U.S. is a
representative democracy who prides itself on the principles of democracy and individual freedom. It

It is the government s duty to be transparent to its citizens, so that its citizens are informed about the
actions of the government, allowing for American citizens to make informed decisions about the

government was not performing its duty of being transparent to its citizens. It was not fulfilling its
duty as a democratic government. Therefore, action must be taken to rectify this, and make the
American government to be responsible to its citizens again. Civil disobedience can rectify problems
and keep society and the government accountable to their duties, making civil disobedience a
necessary civic duty. Thus, when Daniel Ellsberg was smuggling copies of confidential documents out
of the Pentagon to unveil to the public what would be the Pentagon Papers, he was performing his
civic duty. He was making the government transparent and, as a result, responsible to its people. Thus,
his act of civil disobedience illegally smuggling confidential government documents and publishing

Compare And Contrast My Childhood
Compare and contrast
When did playing outside and chasing ice cream trucks turn into playing on iPads and disconnecting
from family a part of childhood? As a kid, my afternoons were spent outside with my older brother.
We used to make up games to play and steal some money out of my dad s car as we anticipated the
arrival of the ice cream truck. I ve had a simple childhood, with minimum technology, and no well
developed games at all. All I ve had was a sandy pit and a worn out goal net. To me though, it wasn t
just a worn out goal net, it was many different places and where a lot of my childhood adventures took

My sister did not get the opportunity to bond with any of our brothers. By the time she was born,
technology was already very well developed and was already a big part of my family s everyday life.
The first personal mobile phone I ve had was when I was 14, and it was a used phone as well, that was
passed down to me from my mother. Kids nowadays already have their own phone by 5 years old.
Mostly all the kids in my family ages ranging from 4 8 all have either their own mobile or their own

the kids. As a kid, I ve anticipated going to any family gathering because of all the fun games we ...

The Great White Shark Essay
The Great White Shark Beginning with the simplest one celled organism, an extraordinary animal rose
in the murky waters entitled to a non comparable killing eating machine. This organism has become
nature s most genuine and most successful creature that it has remained unchanged for over 250
million years. Nature finally invented the perfect king of the sea. This animal has given the sea it s
living adjective; in turn, it was entitled the great white shark.
The Great White Shark derived from a series of evolutionary advancements that took several billion
years. It began with the derivation of the vertebrates the Phylum
Chordata. Here, the Class Agnotha came to existence. Some features of Agnotha are the presence of a

The great white shark has two types of muscles red and white. Red muscle is aerobic; thus, it needs
oxygen to function. This muscle contains myoglobin. The main function of the red muscles is used
just for swimming. The white muscle is anaerobic doesn t need oxygen. White muscles primarily
function for sudden bursts of speed when attacking a prey.
One cannot forget to realize the teeth of the great white, as well as its powerful jaw structure. The
teeth are actually modified, enlarged placoid scales. The teeth aren t anchored in the jaw; they are just
embedded on the gums. Unfortunately, when the great white shark eats on its prey, it sometimes loses
or breaks the tooth by the flesh. Luckily, sharks have developed a special feature that enables it to
replace its missing tooth. They have developed rows of teeth, each tooth moving up to replace the
missing one. A whole broken row of teeth can be replenished, just like a conveyor belt. Each tooth,
though, has a different shape, changing according to its necessity. The great white has triangular,
serrated edged teeth anywhere from one to two inches long. With this feature, the shark is able to tear
through the flesh for its meal. The jaw of the shark is made up of strong bone tissue. It must be very
powerful because the shark is designed for feeding.
In link to the teeth is the shark s olfactory sense,

Olympic Games A Waste Of Money
Are major sporting events like the Olympic Games a waste of money?
Are the Olympic Games a waste of money? The Olympic Games are an international event where
athletes from every country come together to compete. Many fans and spectators attend this event to
cheer for their country. The number of spectators keeps on increasing every four years as the event
gets more popular. As this is an international event the cost of hosting it is huge. The total output of
the 1976 Montreal Games was $1.48 billion whilst the 2012 London Games was a total of $14.6
billion. Stadiums are built for different disciplines, national representatives are invited to perform in
the opening and closing ceremony, as a result the stadiums need a high level of security. Where the
hosting country receives the money from, whom it will benefit and what it does to the country, will be
the three main points I will be covering in this essay. Initially, to host the Olympic Games, the country
must have the money to afford them, but where does it come from? One could say it s from the public
while another says it s from sponsors. According to The Guardian both of these statements are correct,
in the 2012 London Games the money came from the central ... Show more content on

American Slavery Essay
Enormous changes swept through nearly every facet of American society in the years between the
American Revolution and the Civil War, and the institution of slavery was no exception to this rule.
Prior to the Revolution, slavery existed in every American colony. The growing population of settlers
was founded on and maintained by notions of inequality, in which indentured servants and slaves
provided the necessary manpower for the development of a largely agricultural economy and the
settlement of an ever diminishing frontier. First and second generation whites began to equate race and
servitude as white indentured servitude waned and black slaves came to represent the primary source
of forced labor in the Americas. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As natural increase and an end to the importation of African slaves stabilized the slave population,
new generations of Creole slaves began to form a distinctive African American culture. At the same
time, most white slaveholders were now fourth or fifth generation masters who lived and worked near
their slaves and took a keen interest in their welfare and affairs. A new felt paternalism both improved
the physical treatment and condition of slaves and served to further restrict and dictate their lives. The
rise of evangelicalism in the 1830s provided Southern whites with a justification for demanding
obedience by focusing on individual piety and salvation in the hereafter; in the North, by contrast, that
new religious fervor became an impetus for social reform and empowered some whites to try to rid the
world of its many evils, including slavery. Slavery underwent significant changes as the country
moved from the colonial to the antebellum era. The American slavery of 1760 1861 was shaped by the
political, economic, and religious changes affecting the nation as a whole; the latter day manifestation
of slavery was both a major departure from and an indisputable product of the earlier institution.
Following the American Revolution, whites subscribed to new egalitarian notions of government and
liberty throughout the United States. By the time of Independence, slavery was an established facet of
American society, but the

The Himalayas region is located between the plains of the Indian subcontinent and the Tibetan

Student Mentorship Program For The Community College Essay
Student Mentoring in the Community College
Student Population Served
Student Success is now considered a vital element in the community college role. We must teach our
students, and equipped them with skills to achieve their educational goal, as well as their career goals
thereby, surviving in the workplace. Therefore, I am proposing a student mentorship program that
targets all students enrolling at Mohave Community College (MCC). The program will encourage
participation from the concurrent enrolled high school students, as well as students that are classified
within the at risk category. Each student at registration will receive information regarding the
program, and encourage to participate when attending orientation.
Identified Need
The implementation and formulation of the program are highly informed by the fact that certain
groups of students desperately need interventions to enhance their academic performance and increase
their retention rates (Stromel, 2000). The program has identified six types of students who require
mentor consisting of the nontraditional adults; students in remedial studies; students exhibiting low
classroom participation; learners with low campus or community involvement; anyone who lacks
positive role models, and students complaining about time. Therefore, with the tremendous increase of
nontraditional and remedial students at MCC which, exhibit low motivation skills, time management
abilities, and failure to socialize (Campbell, Smith,

John Locke s First Treatise Of Government
In John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, he brings up the idea of property, which he defines
as one of the Natural Rights that a person has. To Locke, he explains how property is something given
from God. He also explains how the people should have a right to property in the State of Nature as
well as in Political Society. Locke also recognizes that there are limitations to the amount of property
available and takes note of this in his text. Lastly, he finds a kind of solution to the limitations in the
forms of a money economy and Political Society. This thesis will argue that property is the main
concept in the creation of all of Locke s political thought, since he bases a large amount of emphasis
on how important it is, while also focusing on the common good and how the people are the ones that
should make changes. To fully understand what Locke is claiming, the idea of Natural Rights must
first be defined. In the Second Treatise, these rights are those that everyone is born with, in the State
of Nature. The State of Nature, which is a place of perfect freedom, a man is naturally equal,
reasonable, and free. This state is also protected by the Law of Nature which enforces that all [are]
equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his Life, Health, Liberty, or Possessions (6.9).
The rights of men are protected under the Law of Nature. Locke repeats these rights many times
throughout his text, and elaborates more on each time. For example, in the later

The Opinion Of Charter Schools
As I began working on this essay, my first step was to google charter school news articles. One of the
first two articles that I came across was from a well known conservative news source. The other was
published in a prominent outlet for liberal news. I was amazed at the polar opposite views that the two
sources had on the subject and decided to see if this dichotomy continued in other news outlets as
well. I then looked up a ranking of various news sources as liberal or conservative. I visited websites
with varying political views and read articles that they had composed about charter schools and their
effects. Throughout my process of examining the media s opinion of charter schools I came across a
clear divide. The liberal media is wholeheartedly opposed to charter schools whereas the conservative
media views them as the only saving grace for our failing school system. These opinions on charter
schools are very closely tied to the overall world view of our two major political parties. Both sides
agree that our school system is struggling and needs to be improved in some way. However, they
differ in how this should be done. The only thing that the two sides seem to truly agree on is the
framing of children as very vulnerable and susceptible to damage done to them by a failing school
system. One of the main conservative political platforms is that free markets are the best answer to
any problem. Schooling is no exception. An education system with

Essay on I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth, a poem that discloses the relationship between
nature and human beings: how nature can affect one s emotion and behavior with its motion and
sound. The words the author adopted in this poem are interconnected and related to each other. They
are simple yet profound, letting us understand how much William Wordsworth related his works to
nature and the universe. It also explained to us why William Wordsworth is one of the greatest and the
most influential English romantic poets in history. As Robert DiYanni says in his book, with much of

daffodils became the speaker s companions in the third stanza, and they were describing as the jocund

and joy.
As the poem goes on, the second emotion from the speaker occurs in the last stanza: the state of
solitude. For oft, when on my couch I lie, in vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon that inward
eye, which is the bliss of solitude, the first emotion of isolation and loneliness seems to reappear here.
But his mood is no longer just vacant as a lonely cloud, but pensive. His mind is now thoughtful and

his memory would be involuntary. Unlike the first emotion that took the speaker out of his loneliness,
the second emotion repeats and recurs to the speaker, as William Wordsworth uses the word oft often.
The speaker is looking forward to his time of being alone, because the daffodils will be there to dance
for him, to keep him company; as the poet writes, which is the bliss of solitude; and then my heart
with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils.

Grudem began on a journey to find the answer to the question that has haunted believers for ages

The United States of America was founded on the basis of religious freedom. Judgment on the legality
of the Separation of Church and State should not be based on one s religion. The phrase Separation of

by Thomas Jefferson in understanding the two clauses of the First Amendment to the Constitution of
the United States: the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment Clause
is prohibits the government fro making any laws dealing with religion. As the second clause, The Free

The American education system is one of the main places of controversy for the Separation of Church
and State. Almost every child in the United States attends some type of school, many of them public
systems. In such a school setting, these children are often exposed to the beliefs of their teachers and
administrators, as well as their own classmates. In Greece, New York, ever since 1999, the town board
has begun their monthly gatherings with prayer. Rev. Lou Sirianni begins his gathering by stating: Be
thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly, the prayer ended,
All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior (Wolf 1).
Recently in 2007, two residents who regularly attended board meetings, Susan Galloway and Linda
Stephens, complained that the prayers were promoting more of a Christian community than any other
religion (Masci 3). Although separation of church and state is stated briefly in the First Amendment,
these two ladies had the right to go after the town for not allowing a freedom of religion and for most
importantly throwing religion into a government owned school function. The case was brought to the
Supreme Court in 2007 and is still under debate, with a result hopefully by the end of June 2014. The
question is whether or not this prayer is allowed at a school function. Not everyone is willing to put

Convergence In Mammals
By comparing the DNA of each species, scientist can name which species evolved by convergence.
Convergent evolution occurs when there is two unrelated ancient or parental species can evolve to
look more and more alike. Two species may strongly resemble each other but they are completely
unrelated to one another just like Losos found in his observation. A casual observer may assume that
two organisms that look alike are in the same species but they re actually not related at all. Take fish
and dolphins as another example; they look similar but they are very different species. They both have
fins and a tail, however, dolphins are mammals. Since these two species are subjected to the same

wherein she places herself in a supposedly weaker and dependent position in relation to Edward.
There is not one example of a time that Bella is in trouble or in pain and Edward is not there to save

amount of times he saves her implies her inability to exist in the most mundane way without his

has can be explained through repetition. The pain is greater than the relationship, this night is the tree
of pain, greater than you or me, and, this night, the tree of pain, vaster than you or me ( Faiz 552).
Since the narrator refers to the, night, the tree of pain , could mean that the narrator has levels and
parts of pain that are like branches of a tree. It also reveals what causes pain for the narrator. My
tormenter, my love, be near me shows the reader the narrator had loved someone, but they left the
narrator (Faiz 553 554). The pain will not be perfectly gone unless the person the narrator loves is
with him. Along with personification and repetition the author used irony to show the theme of pain in
the narrator.
Along with Faiz Ahmed Faiz using personification and repetition throughout his poems, he also used
irony. Irony is normally used in a

My Village Life
Growing up in the city of Lagos Nigeria where everything is immensely distinct in comparison with
parts of the country with a fast pace flow of things, with people from every ethnic group and religion
you could never feel isolated in Lagos it almost reminds me of New York City vibe filled with
clustered building and congested with an abundance of people. One evening we received news that we
would be heading to the village to visit family and at last go, to the farm we heard so much about my
dad is from the village known as IVIUKHUA which is located in Edo state nicknamed the heartbeat of
Nigeria. See compared to the city life the village life was rough but my grandparents seem to love it
and I remember visiting them ever so often you know you know you were in the village once you start
to notice the absence of electricity poles that alone gives you an idea of what a day to day would be in
the village. The village consisted of several walking distance towns and villagers tend to spend their
everyday lives tending to their crops in farms. I learned so much in such a short time at the farm
It was a lovely Sunday morning on August 7, 2005 it was a much anticipated trip filled with
excitement and joy it was about six of us (my mother, father, siblings, our driver and I ) all dressed in
protective gear drenched in bug spray to prevent mosquito bites, at the time malaria was very
common. We were riding in a white Isuzu 4wd drive 2000 model pickup truck which I remember
vividly.

The Immigration Restriction Act (IRA)
During the last decades of the nineteenth century, anxiety arose in the Australian colonies about the
amount of coloured immigrants travelling to Australia, particularly from China (National Archives of
Australia, 2015). Subsequently, one of the first legislations in the new Federal Parliament was the
Immigration Restriction Act (IRA). This Act made it almost impossible for Asians and Pacific
Islanders to migrate to Australia, along with the Pacific Islander Labourers Act and the Post and
Telegraph Act 1901 (NSW Migration Heritage Centre, 2010).
The aim of this and other related legislation was to limit coloured immigration and thus preserve the
leadership of the British (National Archives of Australia, 2015). Two days before Christmas Day ...

Australia wanted to remain a country of white people who lived by British traditions. Trade unions
were keen to prevent labour competition from Chinese and Pacific Islander migrants who they feared
would undercut wages (NSW Migration Heritage Centre, 2010).
The Outcomes
The IMA allowed the government to reject any person who when asked to do so by an officer fails to
write out at dictation and sign in the presence of the officer, a passage of 50 words in length in a
European language directed by the officer . An immigrant during the first year of residence. During
their first years of residence, any immigrant could be assigned a Dictation Test to complete.
It was originally proposed that the Test would be in English, but it was argued that this could
discourage the migration of European people and benefit Japanese people, African American people.
Instead, any European language was required. To lessen offence to the Japanese, in 1905 this was
changed to any prescribed language (NSW Migration Heritage Centre,

America V. Grey Loon Case Summary
CASE: PIECE OF AMERICA V. GRAY LOON MARKETING CITATION PIECE OF AMERICA,
Appellant (Defendant below), v. GRAY LOON OUTDOOR MARKETING GROUP, INC., Appellee
(Plaintiff below). 906 N.E.2d 805; 2009 Ind. LEXIS 465; 69 U.C.C. Rep. Serv. 2d (Callaghan) 71

It would be a mistake, for instance, to treat software as a good simply because it was contained in a
tangible medium that fits within that category. This would conflate the sale of a book with the sale of
its intellectual content, suggesting that the purchaser of the book might be buying a right to general
use of the expressions contained in the volume. A website created under arrangements calling for the
designer to fashion, program, and host its operation on the designer s server is neither tangible nor
moveable in the conventional sense. To be sure, one can copy a website using tangible, movable
objects such as hard drives, cables, and disks. These objects are in themselves just as certainly goods,
but it does not necessarily follow that the information they contain classifies as goods as well. The
arrangement between POA and Gray Loon contemplated a custom design for a single customer and an
ongoing hosting relationship. As such, conventional predominant thrust doctrine suggests that the

Residual Online Income and HubPages Essay
Residual Online Income and HubPages HubPages is a residual online income site that lets you earn
money from your writing. You do so by creating hubs (articles), which are just pages full of written
content, photos, videos, polls, quizzes and last but certainly not least advertising. When you sign up
and become a Hubber, as the members of HubPages are affectionately called, you are allowed to start
publishing hubs. The way you earn residual online income is by sharing a portion of the ad revenue
generated by these hubs. HubPages does not pay its members directly, however; you receive payments
by means of third party advertisers. And here s where its residual online income program gets a little
confusing. You must monetize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if someone clicks an AdSense ad during your 60% of the time, you get 100% of the
revenue. If someone clicks an ad during HubPages 40%, the site keeps 100% of the revenue and you
get zip. Perplexing. I don t know about you, but I would prefer a share of every ad click rather than be
subjected to this convoluted 60/40 system. It seems like Hubbers would need to monitor their affiliate
accounts very closely and perform due diligence. It s not that I don t trust HubPages for residual
online income, but I m no babe in the woods, either. It wouldn t surprise me if HubPages were tilting
the 40% in its favor during peak traffic times, etc. Rest assured that I will scrutinize HubPages and its
impression splits on my own accounts. When it comes to residual online income, I confess to having a
bit of a negative attitude toward HubPages. Yet I knew from the beginning that I didn t understand
why. Perhaps it was hearing the sob story about my friend making zero money on her hubs, of which
there are only four. Maybe it was reading somewhere that HubPages recently got a Google
smackdown and then noticing that the site registered a lower PR (Google PageRank) than before. Or
possibly it was the daunting, unfamiliar territory of impression splitting and affiliate links: the
comparatively byzantine approach to generating money that the site doesn t directly pay. Whatever the
reason, I must admit I never gave HubPages a fighting chance. Recently, I ve done a bit

Analysis Of Breaker Morant
Within the film Breaker Morant, three Australian Army officers, serving in the Bushveldt Carbineers
during the Second Boer War, are put on trial, for murder, in a court martial (Breaker Morant). The
three men, Harry Morant, Peter Handcock, and George Witton are all accused of the murder of Boer
prisoners of war. In addition, Morant and Handcock are accused of murdering a German missionary,
Reverend Hesse (Breaker Morant). Their defense, Major Thomas, only had one day to prepare their
trial. Lord Kitchener, who ordered the trial, did so in order to show that he is willing to judge his own
soldiers harshly if they disobey the rules of war. Ultimately, he does this in the hopes that it will bring
the Boer War to an end with a peace conference (Breaker Morant). Kitchener is ... Show more content

Colonel Denny, supports this. However, there are immense complexities when it comes to charging
active duty soldiers with murder during battle. In the end, the defendants are found guilty of executing
the prisoners and are sentenced to death, but Witton s sentence was reduced to life in penal servitude
(Breaker Morant). This case often raises a debate about whether or not the men should have been
charged with murder during war time, when orders were not clearly defined. Based on Kant s
Categorical Imperative ethical model, if I was acting as the fifth judge in this case, I would find the
men guilty. This is because a person who utilizes the Kantian view believes that the only pure good is
pure human reason without consequences. This pure human reason works without the influence of
human emotions and desires. A truly good act, as defined by Kant, is performed because of an
obligation to the categorical imperative. Therefore, the objectives and personal agendas of the
individual performing the act must be kept separate. For this reason alone, Morant could have been
found guilty. He could have ignored the verbal orders to kill prisoners, or

Randle Mcmurphy A Hero Analysis
Hero is a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character (dictionary.com) . In Ken Kesey s
novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. The protagonist Randle McMurphy is seen as a comic hero
due to the fact that he stood up against Nurse Ratched who was seemingly against him and made
efforts to emasculate the men on the ward . McMurphy was able change the ward because, he
encouraged the men to stand up for themselves and get them to realize that they can t continue to let
Miss.Ratched (Big Nurse) emasculate them. There have been numerous instances in which
McMurphy has shown the men that they need to stand up against Miss.Ratched; throwing the party
and sneaking the girls into the ward, going fishing and engaging in sexual activities, and voting on
watching the world series in hopes of giving the men of the ward a voice, there are a plethora of other
cases in which McMurphy has shown the men ways that they can save their masculinity in the ward.

Piracy In The Music Industry
There are $12.5 billion in economic losses each year due to Piracy in the music industry. This shows
how people are not taking piracy seriously and treating it not as a crime. Piracy is a crime and people
should be able to use it against people in their cases. Based on the evidence in this article, companies
involved in legal action should use emotionally charged language such as piracy to win their cases
because if they seem to be copying an artist s piece without permission and selling it for free, it is
piracy and piracy is a crime that they can use. The person who made their work must have spent a lot
of time on it so they would be able to accuse it s as piracy if someone were to steal it. According to the
article, People who work hard to produce creative works are entitled to enjoy legal protection to reap
the benefits of their labors. And if others want to enjoy those creative works, it s reasonable to make
them pay for the privilege. This proves that people generally want to be able to be proud of their work

This shows that the emotionally charged language should be used because it is appropriate for this
matter that these things are truly being stolen. Piracy is an ongoing problem that many people do not
take seriously. Just because something is intangible does not mean that it does not have any value. In
conclusion, organizations should use emotionally charged language such as piracy because stealing
these intangible things are counted as a crime so it is only fair to use

Opposing The Legalization of Marijuana Essay
If marijuana was legal, back yard marijuana gardens would be in every neighborhood, thus kids would
be able to get it as easy as taking fruit off a neighbor s tree (Johnathan Greens). According to the
National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 62.2 percent of the 14.2 billion people who used marijuana
for the first time in one day were under the age of 18 years back in 2003. This increases by nearly 1.3
percent every year. This has become a problem due to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) being the active
ingredient in marijuana that can become dangerous if one should take advantage of its use by either
smoking it or abusing it in its capsule/tablet form (Barr). Marijuana has been legalized for medical
purposes for over 10 states in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With todays technology, alcohol Breathalyzer tests are given within seconds of pulling someone over
and the results are almost immediate. As for a marijuana text that would have to be developed, the
results will not be as immediate because drug tests for marijuana that are given today take up to weeks
to receive back in order for the suspect to be positive or negative. These procedures that the
government would like to take control of would be nearly impossible.
If marijuana were to be legalized, there would be no way to control its developed public smoking
habits because anyone who is around marijuana smoke has a great chance of having a contact buzz
whether you want one or not. The public indecency of getting a contact buzz from others smoke would
lead to many unnecessary lawsuits. Many of us do not want to have to worry about getting high when
walking into a store. Parents and legal guardians of children that are not old enough to make decisions
themselves will be pressured even more than they are in school today because their parents may be
smoking around them in and outside of their homes.
A way that America is currently trying consider making it legal is for medicinal purposes only. States
such as Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico,
Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington allow medical cannabis legal. The active ingredients

Medication Errors And The Efficiency Of Medication...
McComas, Riingenm and Kim (2014), conducted a study that investigated the occurrence of
medication errors and the efficiency of medication administration following the implementing an
eMAR system. The study was conducted in an appropriate setting and all observed nurses volunteered
for the study. Before implementing the eMARs mandatory class were provided and nurses were
evaluated for competency. Data was collected by observation and nurses were randomly followed
throughout a medication pass. Collected data consisted of medication errors, distractions during
medication pass and amount of time spent administering medications.
The results of this study was that the percentage of medication errors decreased following the
implementation of eMARs. Although medication errors were decreased, the authors found that the
eMAR system decreased efficiency and disturbed workflow. The authors state that factors such as
missing medications, preparing medication at the bedside, and distractions contributed to this and are
factors that can be improved. The author s identified the presence of several limitation in the study.
The use of one individual to collect data created a possibility of bias and the observation of nurses
may have affected the behaviors of the nurse. Also, the authors state that the study was not a cause and
effect study and was only conducted on one unit which decreased the generalizability of the study.
According the hierarchy of evidence for intervention studies, this

  • 2. aircraft icing Essay Introduction Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with the general public that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times, although the majority of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and mechanical failure. In much of aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing factor. It is impossible however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are so varied. Reasoning for plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of categories. Environmental conditions play a vital part in aviation as a whole. Much planning goes into a flight based on the current and forecast weather conditions for safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This accident could have been avoided if proper procedure was followed in deicing. The NTSB investigation concluded that the combination of the crew s use of thrust reverse on the ground for push back, and their failure to active the engine anti ice system caused the crash. By failing to activate the engine anti ice system, large amounts of snow and ice that were sucked into the engines during reverse thrust were allowed to remain there. Ice built up on the compressor inlet pressure probe, which measures engine power. As a result instrument indications in the cockpit showed an Engine Pressure Ratio of 2.04, while the power plants were in reality only producing 1.70 EPR, or about 70% of available power. The combination of the ice covered wings and low power caused an immediate stall on takeoff killing 74 people. (Kilroy, 9). In Americans Eagle Flight 4184 October 31, 1994, heavy air traffic and poor weather postponed the arrival of this flight at Chicago s O Hare International Airport, where it was to have landed en route from Indianapolis, Indiana. The ATR 72, a twin engine turboprop carrying 68 people, entered a holding pattern 65 miles southeast of O Hare, which it maintained for over an hour in freezing rain. As the plane circled, a ridge of ice formed on the upper surface of its wings, eventually causing the aircraft s autopilot to suddenly disconnect and the pilots to lose control. The ATR disintegrated on impact with a field below, killing everyone aboard. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Genetic Testing or Genetic Screening Genetic testing, also known as screening, is a rapidly advancing new scientific field that can potentially revolutionize not only the world of medicine, but many aspects of our lives. Genetic screening is the sequencing of human DNA in order to discover genetic differences, anomalies, or mutations that may prove pathological. As genetic screening becomes more advanced and easily accessible, it presents society with difficult questions that must be asked about the boundaries of science and to what degree we are allowed to tamper with the human genome. To better understand the potential impact of genetic screening on our society, we must examine the potential benefits in comparison to the possible negative impact it may cause. With this ... There are many reasons to support further research into genetic screening but unfortunately such a complicated and controversial field also brings up ethical, legal and social issues that need to be addressed. One of the greatest issues surrounding genetic screening is one of privacy and potential discrimination. Some people fear that a predictive test that shows someone is at higher risk of developing a particular condition can be used against said person. Employers could become interested in knowing the probabilities of their workers developing chronic conditions, which might lead to hiring discrimination. Genetic predispositions towards certain diseases could also be used to deny health insurance to some individuals. This may seem unlikely but it is an issue that definitely warrants concern. Brynne Stainsby s father was diagnosed with the gene that causes degenerative brain disorder, meaning she had one in two odds of developing Huntington s disease. When preparing to start her own chiropractic practice she learned that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get covered if she possesses this same gene. Simply coming from a family that was predisposed to Huntington s disease was enough to disqualify her from life or disability insurance. Many people find it hard to believe that such discrimination could occur in a country as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Causes Of The American And French Revolution The American Revolution began with armed conflict in April of 1775 when battles between British troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord started. The conflict started from growing tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the colonial government, which represented the British crown. The American Revolution lasted until 1783 and resulted in victory and independence for the colonies. The French Revolution began in 1789 and ended in 1799 with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. The conflict started because of rising social and economic inequality, new political ideas emerging from the Enlightenment, economic mismanagement, environmental factors leading to agricultural failure, unmanageable national debt, and political mismanagement on the part of King Louis XVI have all been cited as laying the groundwork for the Revolution. The American and French Revolution were fundamentally similar because they both were about freedom from oppression, removing economic turmoil and new ideality. One of the reasons why the American and French Revolution was started because they both were being oppressed. The Americans were being oppressed by the English, who controlled their government and the French were being oppressed by their own government. The major turning point of the American Revolution was July 4th, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. In the context of the 18th century, liberty was freedom from oppression, ... • 6. A Line Between Sweet And Skimpy You see a girl wearing a crop top and booty shorts that show off almost all there is to see, what is your first thought? In the minds of most women it is, What does she think she is wearing? or I can t believe her parents let her wear that. Some men will think the same; others will think more provocative things. If you want to give them the freedom to choose what they wear make sure they know how others will view them and what the consequences can be before you hand over the reins, but there should still be an age limit. Middle school sounds sort of like a good time to start. The age at which a child thought they should make their own decisions was at least 20 years old way back when, but that is not the case in recent years. It seems that children are starting younger and younger these days and the age that they start to make their own decisions is continuously decreasing. There has been word of some cases starting even younger than intermediate high school (middle school). As Bruce Feiler states in his piece A Line Between Sweet and Skimpy that his own daughters came to a family gathering in provocative clothing when they were only 8 years old. This just seems ridiculous, it s easy to agree that in all honesty people are not fully mature enough to make their own decisions until between the ages 21 27; yet children ... • 7. The Book Of Revelation, By The Old Testament And The New... The Book of Revelation is conceivably the most fascinating of all the books in the Bible. It is a book that prophesies about the signs pointing to the world s conditions just before the return of Jesus Chris, and how each stage prepares for this up and coming event. Because prophecy is a large percentage of the Bible, people say that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed . Through the prophets, Scripture reveals a redeemer and the name of Messiah. They foretell about Christ s birth, death and resurrection in the Old Testament and the New Testament retells His real life stories. Because of this, a large part of the prophecy in both the Old and New Testament according to Christians has been fulfilled. Yet, the Book of Revelation, the last book is a writing of indistinguishable forces and mystical powers at work in the world as Satan sets up the stages for the return of the Savior, Jesus Christ. There are many fantastic subjects in Biblical prophecy. They set up the One Dimensional Kinematics in the historical events like motions setting people up in a straight line leading all the verses to a real time realization. The church is a major part of prophecy; and yet based on this common theme in Christian theology, this can also reference a group of people who represent the religious dynamics during the time. Yet, the number reason for the writings is the Lord Jesus Christ. Although other topics in the book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Relationship Between Board Size And Firm Performance .4 Discussion of Results The results found in this study suggest that some of the relationships found during the literature review can be confirmed. For example, the literature states that smaller boards of directors reduce the coordination problems that lead to improved firm performance relative to larger boards of directors (Kini et al, 1995; Yermack, 1996; Eisenberg et al, 1998). This study found significant empirical evidence with the sample of FTSE 100 companies that this is the case which supports these findings. It should be noted, that Haleblian and Finkelstein (1993) suggested sensibly that boards of directors that are too small can also be hampered in their ability to monitor management particularly in complex firms such as those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This study instead found, in some cases when Tobin s q was used as the measure of firm performance, that there could be a significant negative relationship between the proportion of external directors and firm performance. No such relationship was found when ROA used as the measure of firm performance. These results indicate that the significant relationship found might be spurious. Also, the review of the literature found evidence that there should be a positive relationship between shareholder concentration in the hands of significant minority shareholders but no such relationship was found in the sample of FTSE 100 companies used in this study. Even after this study attempted to correct for some data problems by removing those companies within the dataset where the shareholding was concentrated in the hands of significant majority shareholders and their related parties, there was no statistically significant relationship between shareholder concentration and firm performance. There are several possible explanations for the lack of strong relationships in this study. The first concerns the choice of variables to be used as proxies for measuring firm performance. This study chose to use the return on assets and Tobin s q and found that the results differed significantly depending on the choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their task was to write about the race and in Thompson s mind he d decided that he wanted to cover the decadent and depraved side of the derby. He proceeded in telling me that there was cultist groups living outside of the infected filled quarantined city of Harran have successfully controlled the virus. With the tower low on antizen and Camden s efforts to produce a cure still unsuccessful, I decided to go investigate the supposed immunity. I headed out to the countryside, where I discovered that many of the survivors out there have converted to a religious cult called the Children of the Sun, who worship the Mother which is apparently the source of their immunity to the virus. In order to earn the cult s trust and learn more about the immunity, I decide to assist the survivors. Eventually, one of the Faceless, the high ranking members of the cult, approached me and privately admits that their immunity is gained through a special elixir they had discovered, but like Antizin, it only suppresses the infection and does not fully cure it. • 11. Racism For Dummies How to deal with Racism for Dummies: AP Lit Edition With an ever growing and diversifying population, race is a term that people have become more accustomed to. Many would say that as a society, American citizens have taken steps to subdue and reduce racism. Others may say that the government itself has adopted institutional policies to prevent racism. If such were to be true, considering that those actions to fight racism have existed for at least a century, why is one not able to see that those efforts to fight racism may be ineffective? Society for the past decades has built a manner in which we assume that racism is wrong. Despite those efforts, hundreds of issues concerning race continue occurring. Rather than taking perspective that racism is wrong, society should have a more active focus on the population by providing education on how to respond correctly to issues that can concern ... Instead of just simply simply stating racism is wrong, people will be able to learn to respond properly respond to racism as how Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have; society will have a more tangible impact towards racism. For decades, the racism was viewed along a motif that it is wrongful. It is present in law, literature, arts, and simple morals. Many of those steps that society has taken focuses upon highlighting the damage that racism causes to both an individual and society, yet, controversial racial issues occur at an alarming rate. The first recorded major effort to subdue racism was the 14th amendment, being approximately 150 years. Since then, this direction has integrated into society in which people are taught that treating people differently according to race is wrongful. In 2003, based on a call about a weapons disturbance, police officers entered John Lawrence s apartment, where they found him and Tyron Garner engaged in sexual intercourse. This went against the Sodomy Laws. They were brought to court, and eventually the case was brought to Supreme Court; where Paul M. • 13. American Mariners History The early modern sea particularly the Atlantic can be characterized as a space of great instability. It was here that communication and trade between nations became easily accessible, but the lack of uniform maritime regulations and commercial competition fostered hostility between states, resulting in prolonged periods of war. One distinct product of this environment was pirates, who took to the high seas in search of ships to illegally capture and raid of their goods. For the great maritime nations of the 16th to 18th centuries, pirates were simply criminals that threatened the progress of the world economy, but history has shown that they were much more complex figures. At the same time as they were violent, ruthless, and defiant outlaws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reasons for becoming or turning pirate have been widely theorized, and it seems as though a multitude of social, political, and economic factors were at play. On an individual level, the dangerous and almost inevitably fatal nature of piracy makes it improbable that one would join a crew if they felt as though they had other alternatives. Instead, it is more likely that piracy was a last resort refuge for a dejected class of sailors who did not fit in with normative cultural standards, but could not escape the fact that society dictated that they must work to survive regardless. Because piracy stemmed from a distinctly maritime class and not the general landed population, it is easier to understand why it may have been seen as a viable option. These men were already familiar with the principles of teamwork, harmony, and trust that were 2 necessary to survive on a ship, and their lengthy voyages often made them ill adjusted to life on land. There are two main reasons why a sailor would have crossed the line between legal and illegal maritime service: perceived injustice and peacetime layoffs. The word renaissance means rebirth or revival. The German renaissance inspired just that, a revival and rebirth of education and art. The people of Europe became interested in art and music during the renaissance. Education was also changing as the people became more interested in sciences and philosophy. As was customary for young men who finished their apprenticeships (Durer Microsoft Online). This apprenticeship early on in Albrecht Durer s life became a big influence in pursuing his artistic talents and developing them into something great. Throughout Durer s life he will make journeys to other countries in Europe to meet other artists and gain more knowledge about art and science. Albrecht Durer s first journey began in 1492 when he tired to join the workshop of German painter and engraver Martin Schongauer (Durer Microsoft online). Unfortunately schongauer had recently died, but Durer was told to travel to the Swiss publishing center of Basel if he wanted to find work. Once in Basel Durer began his work and created illustrations for several publications. Still early in his life, Durer s art depicted his skills with lines and sharp observation of detail. • 15. Russi A Great And Catherine The Great Russia has seen its fair share of autocratic monarchs as well, such as Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. Peter first ascended the throne as co czar with his half brother Ivan V in the death of their brother Feodore. Their elder sister, Sophia, was the most capable to take the throne. But being a girl, she was unable to do so and could only rule as regent for the two princes turned czars. While Sophia ruled, Peter spent his days building forts on the banks of a river outside of Moscow. He played war games using them, recruiting in boys and arming them with real guns. The games were dangerous; 24 boys were once killed in a single game. But the games eventually paid off, and Peter had himself two self trained armies that he used to overthrow Sophia and rule the throne himself. The regent was forced into an enclosed convent, living as a nun for the rest of her days (Russia, Land of Tsars: Time of Troubles). Life in Russia had changed very little since the Middle Ages. Russia had not experienced a Renaissance and was quite backwards in terms of lifestyle compared to Western Europe. Peter wanted to change all that. He viewed the church as an impediment to progress in Russia, wanting to break their restraining bonds of complex customs and modernize Russia (Russia, Land of Tsars: Time of Troubles). It s time to constrain the authority not proper to the old man [i.e., the patriarch]; God willing, it is for me to reform the laity and the clergy, for them I am both master and ... However, civil disobedience is crucial to society. Civil disobedience improves society and keeps society and government accountable to their respective duties. Civil disobedience is a necessary civic duty, necessary to rein in government and society and keep them accountable to their respective duties. An example of this is the release of the Pentagon Papers by Daniel Ellsberg. The American government was being secretive about its actions in the Vietnam War, and a democratic government should not be secretive about its actions. One cannot forget to realize the teeth of the great white, as well as its powerful jaw structure. The teeth are actually modified, enlarged placoid scales. The teeth aren t anchored in the jaw; they are just embedded on the gums. Unfortunately, when the great white shark eats on its prey, it sometimes loses or breaks the tooth by the flesh. Luckily, sharks have developed a special feature that enables it to replace its missing tooth. They have developed rows of teeth, each tooth moving up to replace the missing one. A whole broken row of teeth can be replenished, just like a conveyor belt. Each tooth, though, has a different shape, changing according to its necessity. The great white has triangular, serrated edged teeth anywhere from one to two inches long. With this feature, the shark is able to tear through the flesh for its meal. A new felt paternalism both improved the physical treatment and condition of slaves and served to further restrict and dictate their lives. The rise of evangelicalism in the 1830s provided Southern whites with a justification for demanding obedience by focusing on individual piety and salvation in the hereafter; in the North, by contrast, that new religious fervor became an impetus for social reform and empowered some whites to try to rid the world of its many evils, including slavery. To Locke, he explains how property is something given from God. He also explains how the people should have a right to property in the State of Nature as well as in Political Society. Locke also recognizes that there are limitations to the amount of property available and takes note of this in his text. Lastly, he finds a kind of solution to the limitations in the forms of a money economy and Political Society. This thesis will argue that property is the main concept in the creation of all of Locke s political thought, since he bases a large amount of emphasis on how important it is, while also focusing on the common good and how the people are the ones that should make changes. To fully understand what Locke is claiming, the idea of Natural Rights must first be defined. In the Second Treatise, these rights are those that everyone is born with, in the State of Nature. The State of Nature, which is a place of perfect freedom, a man is naturally equal, reasonable, and free. This state is also protected by the Law of Nature which enforces that all [are] equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his Life, Health, Liberty, or Possessions (6.9). Both sides agree that our school system is struggling and needs to be improved in some way. However, they differ in how this should be done. The only thing that the two sides seem to truly agree on is the framing of children as very vulnerable and susceptible to damage done to them by a failing school system. Bella is complicit in this relationship wherein she places herself in a supposedly weaker and dependent position in relation to Edward. There is not one example of a time that Bella is in trouble or in pain and Edward is not there to save her in some way. Bella s reliance on Edward begins with him saving her from the runaway car; the amount of times he saves her implies her inability to exist in the most mundane way without his particular guardianship. Another example of Edwards guardianship is when Bella is having nightmares he stands over her at night to watch her and make sure no harm comes to her, even sleeping make Bella vulnerable and Edward sees that. Bella who is the submissive one because she is weak in body and in mind, she lets her emotions and feeling toward Edward rule her every move and she would quite literally do anything for her. When one thinks about the country India the first thing that will come to their mind is their rich, colorful clothes and animals that are part of their culture. Most do not think of the literature in India, and how life is incorporated into their writing. A common theme throughout Indian literature is life, and literary elements were used to reveal themes throughout their writing. A theme of pain in the narrator s life was explained more to the reader through the use of personification, repetition, and irony. There are places that have sentimental value to the narrator, and the reader can see this through repetition. [G]ate is still open and no gate opens the reader can tell that gates are have an important meaning to the narrator since they are repeated (Faiz 551 552). Also since the gate is repeated in a positive and a negative way, the reader can see the connection the narrator has with feeling pain and the gates. The relationship the narrator has can be explained through repetition. The pain is greater than the relationship, this night is the tree of pain, greater than you or me, and, this night, the tree of pain, vaster than you or me ( Faiz 552). Since the narrator refers to the, night, the tree of pain , could mean that the narrator has levels and parts of pain that are like branches of a tree. It also reveals what causes pain for the narrator. My tormenter, my love, be near me shows the reader the narrator had loved someone, but they left the narrator (Faiz 553 554). The pain will not be perfectly gone unless the person the narrator loves is with him. Along with personification and repetition the author used irony to show the theme of pain in the narrator. This case often raises a debate about whether or not the men should have been charged with murder during war time, when orders were not clearly defined. Based on Kant s Categorical Imperative ethical model, if I was acting as the fifth judge in this case, I would find the men guilty. This is because a person who utilizes the Kantian view believes that the only pure good is pure human reason without consequences. This pure human reason works without the influence of human emotions and desires. A truly good act, as defined by Kant, is performed because of an obligation to the categorical imperative. Therefore, the objectives and personal agendas of the individual performing the act must be kept separate. For this reason alone, Morant could have been found guilty.
