Does Rick Deckard Empathy
Rick Deckard is the protagonist of Philip K.Dick´s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep which
was published in 1968. The novel is set in a post apocalyptic future where Rick Deckard is working as
a bounty hunter and his job is to retire (=kill) androids or andys as they also are called. The earth has
been destroyed by World War Terminus and all animals species has died because of radiation. Humans
have left earth for a new colony on Mars and androids are built to be humans slaves on Mars but they
often escape back to earth where they must be killed because the have no empathy towards living
things such as humans and animals. Rick Deckard´s job is to retire six Nexus 6 androids, which is the
most advanced type who is very alike us human, in only 24 hours.
Rick Deckard is at the beginning of the novel very selfish and ... Show more content on

Empathy is what differs androids from humans but what if androids has implanted memories as
Rachel Rosen (another android) has and can value human life and animals life because of the
memories she has. What differs the andys from the humans then if they act exactly like us, think like
us and can show empathy towards other living creatures? Rick Deckard has no empathy towards
living thing but for himself and what makes him human and not an android? Rick questions his
existence if he really is human or actually an android. But he realizes that he is human because he
eventually empathize with androids, his wife and the electric animals.
I never felt like that before. Maybe it could be depression, like you get. I can understand how you
suffer now when you re depressed; I always thought you liked it and I thought you could have
snapped yourself out any time, if not alone then by means of the mood organ. But when you get that
depressed you don t care. Apathy, because you ve lost a sense of worth. It doesn t matter whether you

Caged Bird Analysis
The role of voices in text is to give meaning and to highlight the composer s attitudes and beliefs.
Maya Angelou s politically complex voice in Caged Bird explores her belief in the human rights for
equality, and the freedom for every individual regardless of race or creed. Paradoxically Bruce Dawe s
satirical and judgmental voice in Enter without so much knocking (Knock) conveys his criticisms of
society s shallow meaningless life. Caged Bird by Angelou makes the audience reconsider the real
conditions of the free bird and the caged bird . This contrast between the birds throughout the poem
enables her to explore the issues of freedom and isolation in African American society. Angelou
utilises various literary devices and techniques such as repetition, irony and imagery to convey her
attitudes and beliefs about the beauty of freedom. Repetition is used when the poem repeats the third
stanza at the end of the poem to further emphasis freedom, this reflects the two birds that are different.
for the caged bird sings of freedom is the last line of stanza three conveying an important message to
the readers, that the caged bird wants to be free. This allows the reader to conclude that every
individual should be aware and thankful for the freedom in their society. Although less direct in
conveying Angelou s attitudes and beliefs, she adequately utilises irony to enable us to further
appreciate freedom. The caged bird sings with a fearful trill evokes sympathy for

Pride In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Excessive Pride can sometimes lead to an undesirable state of mind. Some people may compare
themselves to others who are luckier and more successful in life. Through their arrogance, they may
present themselves to other people as egocentric and indifferent. Arrogance may introduce people to
negative characteristics such as greed and selfishness through subtle manipulation. In the short story
The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, the narrator informs us about a woman who is filled with greed.
Similarly, in the story A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor, we learned about a
grandmother who selfishly attempts subtle manipulation with her family and other strangers. Even
though these stories depict two women with a different kind of ... Show more content on

Mathilde finds herself dissatisfied with her life. She craves for riches and glamour. Instead of
appreciating what she has, Mathilde craves for jewels and high class commodities. One day, her
husband receives an invitation to a formal party, which would give Mathilde a chance to experience
the luxuries of high society. However, she seems upset because she does not own a formal dress to
wear to the ball. Mathilde s husband feels compassion for her and gives her his savings to buy a new
and elegant dress. The night before the ball, we noticed Mathilde s greed when she complains that she
has no ornament to put on. She arrogantly tells her husband, It s so mortifying to look poverty stricken
among women who are rich (Maupassant). For this reason, he then advises her to borrow some
jewelry from her friend, Madam Forestier. Blinded by greed, Mathilde follows her husband s advice
and borrows what looks like a diamond necklace. At the ball, she has a great time. However, when she
and her husband get home, she realizes she has lost the diamond necklace. Worried by the
consequences of losing a diamond necklace, Mathilde s husband decides to buy a new necklace by
using his inheritance, getting loans, and borrowing money from acquaintances. They return the
necklace to Madam Forestier and focus on paying their debt. After 10 years of hard labor and misery,
they eventually pay all their debts. At the end of the short story, Mathilde finds out that the diamond
necklace she borrowed was fake. Ultimately, we see how greed drove Mathilde to misery and

Narrative Designer Paul Crocker s First Entry In The Arkham
Taking it one step further with Batman Arkham City
When Arkham City was released on October 11th, 2011 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC, it
was to a different climate than Arkham Asylum, with gamers everywhere highly anticipating the
sequel. Arkham City marks the first Arkham game to be released on a Nintendo platform, as the
Armored Edition arrived on the WiiU in 2012. Warner Bros. Montreal ported it to the WiiU, and we
will take a closer look at them later in this article. Paul Dini returns to pen Arkham City s story,
however, Game Director Sefton Hill became increasingly more involved in the writing process. In
addition, Lead Narrative Designer Paul Crocker joined them, and the trio had big plans for the sequel
with big being the operative word. Arkham City features a bigger roster of enemies, and unshackles
the game from the confines of the Asylum, setting Batman free in an expansive open world. As a
result, the influences of Metroid and Zelda became more diluted. In my opinion, Arkham City is the
first entry in the Arkham series as we have come to think of it. ... Show more content on

Essay on Project Critique
Analysis and Critique
The Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) project, undertaken by Electronic Data Communications
(EDC) is the biggest government undertaking of its kind. It aims to provide a single seamless network
which would provide a centralized communication to the Navy and Marine. It also aims to integrate
the legacy systems with the new secured environment. The NMCI project aimed to connect about
400,000 desktops into a common network, which would provide a unified communication to all Navy
and Marine bases (Calbreath, 2004).
Due to the magnitude of the project, it has been subject to much speculation. Despite of initial claims
by the EDS, there have been serious issues. EDS aimed to have 160,000 seats by 2002 ... Show more

The Navy also developed a performance plan in order to measure and report the success of the NMCI
project. GAO s analysis further showed that the Navy had met only 15% of the performance targets. A
careful study of these results shows that if the Navy doesn t implement its performance plan, then
effective result and management cannot be achieved. The GAO analysis also reveals that the service
level agreements of the NMCI is of a mixed nature, with some agreements met, others not consistently
met, while still others not met at all.
GAO s analysis also gives suggestions for the Department of Defense, in order to adopt effective
practice. By adhering to the suggestions given by GAO, the Department of Defense is more like to get
a detailed understanding of significant issues, which will prove beneficial while making outsourcing
decisions, along with suggestions to be kept in mind while making such decisions (Information
Technology: DOD Needs to Leverage Lessons Learned from Its Outsourcing Projects, 2003).

Rabbit Proof Fence Heroism Essay
The protagonists from Us Mob Walawurru and Rabbit Proof Fence are both heroic characters.
Discuss.
The protagonists from Us Mob Walawurru and Rabbit Proof Fence are both heroic characters;
however, they show their heroism to a different extent.
Both Ruby from Us Mob Walawurru and Molly from Rabbit Proof Fence are heroic partly because of
their outstanding courage. Ruby is an incredibly brave character and she displays her courage
consistently throughout the course of the novel. An example of her bravery is when she leaves her
country to go on a sports trip, although she is unsure of what lies ahead I thought about how this was
the first time I d be leaving our country. I started to worry for my family and home. Here, the authors
portray the bravery of this character, as she is not afraid to try something new. Similarly, Molly is also
a brave character, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ruby is especially caring towards others. An example of this is when she stands up for Ronald to keep
him out of trouble, the little fella s going rumma, crazy. He s either gonna cry or run. Here, the authors
show the amount of care Ruby shows towards others. Another example is when she lets Maisey come
joint first in the race with her, Maisey! I can t beat her. This highlights the kind nature of Ruby, as she
knows Maisey will be happy if she wins the race, and sacrifices her first place position to make
Maisey happy. Equally, Molly is also a kind and caring person. An example of this is when she takes
Grace and Daisey along when she escapes, even though it will slow her down. In this example, the
director emphasises how caring the protagonist is as she is willing to increase the risk of being caught
just to save others. In the book and the film, both protagonists are portrayed to be incredibly kind and
caring individuals. Surely, this leads to the conclusion that both of these people should labelled

Am I Blue by Beth Henley Essay
Am I Blue by Beth Henley Am I Blue, is a one act play written by a southern woman playwright, Beth
Henley. At the age of twenty, Henley wrote this first play; and it may also have been a play that
reflected her passage to adulthood. As a play written for her love, Stuart White, this is a comical, yet
very serious play because it deals with problems that many teenagers face. In the play, two teenagers,
John Polk Richards and Ashbe Williams, meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These also help the readers get the answers to the five what? who? why? when? where? questions.
Throughout the play, the tone is mostly comical, but also depressing when John Polk and Ashbe
describe their background problems, and that helps make the play become more interesting and
entertaining to the readers or audience. The language that is also used helps the readers learn more
about what is happening in the play as well as why things are the way they are. Furthermore, the
setting of this play, both the social and physical environment, is very important especially in Am I
Blue. Stuart Spencer states that like the tools of structure, it can be invisible, or at least unobtrusive,
[but the playwright] can use [the setting] as a means to help give the play structure (Spencer 268). The
social or time setting through out this play is during the fall of 1968 when the war in Vietnam was still
taking place and many people who were experiencing depression kept on increasing in numbers all
across the nation, too. Likewise, this time of year affects both John Polk and Ashbe because the
atmosphere mostly throughout the nation was not enjoyable and there was a lot of historical and
political chaos at the time of the play such as the war not

I am recommending a short of The Cheesecake Factory ( CAKE or the Company ).
According to the Company, The Cheesecake Factory created the upscale casual dining segment in
1978 with the introduction of its namesake concept. For the namesake brand, the Company s identity

which consequently generated a higher average check at over $20 in the past two years. The Company

I am an international student from Republic of Kazakhstan. This country is located in between Russia

country was a part of the Soviet Union. It is worth to mention that we as a nation and an independent
country have experienced a great influence from the Russian Empire that had reflected on our culture,
economy, literature, science, and other aspects of life. However, being under the Soviet pressure has
brought a lot of negative consequences as well. One of them was nuclear weapon testing conducted on

person who was able to prevent inadequate exploitation of the environment and consistent emissions
of the radioactive waste into the atmosphere. His name is Olzhas Suleimenov. He is an influential and

politics in the 1980s by founding the Nevada Semipalatinsk antinuclear movement of 1989. This

the eventual denuclearization of the Central Asian region. Nevada Semipalatinsk campaign targeted to

Suleimenov was among the first Eurasian intellectuals who raised awareness of global climate change,

Kazakhstan and contributed to trends in nuclear disarmament, non proliferation, environmental

How can interpersonal communication skills quickly create a best friend relationship between two

Unimodal And Bimodal Silica
In 2006, Franscesc Lloret et al. employed unimodal and bimodal silica based mesoporous materials as
support hosts for octanuclear Ni(II) oxamate complex44 of formula {[Ni2(mpba)3][Ni(dpt)H2O)]6}
(ClO4)4·12.5H2O}, (Ni8) with mpba = m phenylenedioxamate and dpt = dipropylenetriamine. This
complex possesses a moderately anisotropic (S = 4) ground spin state (D = 0.23 cm 1) and exhibits
slow magnetic relaxation below TB = 3.0 K in the crystalline state. The mesoporous silicas MCM 41,
UVM 7 and UVM 11 were investigated to incorporate Ni8 SMMs. The unimodal silica MCM 41 has
small pores of 2.8 nm diameter while UVM 7 has bimodal pores of 2.58 nm and 34.89 nm. A third

In stark contrast, MCM 41 and UVM 7 show much different magnetic properties after successful
incorporation into the silica pores. Notably, the χMT term for both silicas is higher than expected for
magnetically isolated Ni8 molecules (such as those in UVM 11) which supports the presence of
repeating Ni8 units forming [Ni8]x aggregates. χMT also reaches a maximum at a range of 3 10 K, in
contrast to the Tmax = 3 K of the SMM alone where Tmax generally increases with increasing loading
amount. This behavior can be rationalized due to magnetic anisotropy and/or antiferromagnetic
interactions between aggregates. A proposed mechanism consists of Ni8 SMMs filling the silica pores
and consequent aggregation which is mediated by deprotonated silanol groups present on the pores
(Fig. 4). In turn [Ni8]x aggregates, joined by Ni O Ni bonds interact in a ferromagnetic manner which
allows for the Ni8 monomers to undergo magnetic exchange interactions. This mechanism holds up to
a point, a 100% loading amount results in packing which imposes a steric strain on the filamentous
[Ni8]x and pushes the Ni O Ni angle towards a higher value, prompting antiferromagnetic interactions
leading to a decrease in magnetic susceptibility. AC magnetic measurements were used to verify the
retention of SMMs characteristics within the

The Dogmas Of Mary-Vanessa Perez
The Dogmas of Mary Vanessa Perez
The first dogma is the Divine Motherhood. This dogma is that Mary is the Mother of God. We believe
this because she gave birth to Jesus, who is both 100% human and 100% divine. We got this belief
from the Council of Ephesus and the Council of Chalcedon. They explained that since Mary gave birth
to Christ, the son of God, then Mary gave birth to God.
The second dogma is the Perpetual Virginity. This dogma is that Mary was a virgin when she was
conceived and gave birth. We believe this because we know that Mary was conceived by the power of
the Holy Spirit only. We got this belief from the Church. They explained that Mary was a virgin when
she gave birth.
The third dogma is the Immaculate Conception. This dogma

Tio2 Acetaminophen Analysis
TiO2 assisted photodegradation of acetaminophen Acetaminophen (adapted name for Paracetamol or

analgesic action of this drug has motivated researchers to explore various techniques for an efficient
treatment. A group of Chinese researchers have utilized suspended TiO2 at different pH values in a

consequences of narcissism and the destruction it is causing to our society. This can be seen through
digital technology and media. The constant stream of celebrity news is causing a celebrity obsessed

Also celebrity culture has expectations for women to be thin, which has led to emotional and self
image problems. Pinsky states A similar narcissistic drive is the subtext of body image shows such as
Dr.90210, The Biggest Loser, The Swan, Look a like, I Want a Famous

Similarities And Differences Between Gnosticism And...
Gnosticism is nearly as old as Christianity and some would argue very similar to Christianity in
beliefs. However, there are distinct differences to Gnosticism in beliefs, doctrines, and practices from,
and practices of Christianity. Gnosticism had several key leaders during its early years, few of whom
we will discuss at further length later in this paper. There were also several key leaders of the early
Christian church who denounced Gnosticism for heresy and claimed that it was pseudo way to
Christianity. Up until the 1900 s, very little was known about the precise beliefs of Gnosticism, then
this changed with the discovery of the Nag Hammadi works which may have been written by
Valentinus. Gnosticism is a more distinct religion than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their idea of salvation is that God sent a spiritual redeemer to teach those humans that will listen
where their true home is and that they can obtain their salvation through self knowledge. Gnostics held
to the idea that Jesus was the spiritual redeemer sent from God to teach humans about their true home.
However they did not believe as Christians do that Jesus was the incarnate of God because they
believed that all material is evil and that God could not take on the form of a human who died and rose
bodily. To justify that Jesus was indeed their spiritual redeemer they claimed that whoever entered
Jesus at his baptism left him before his death on the cross. So while Gnostics identify themselves as
Christians many of their doctrines are not biblically based.
Scholars have not found sufficient proof, but tradition holds that Simon Magus and Cerinthus were the
founders of the Gnostic faith. Tradition also holds that Paul on his second missionary journey
encountered Simon and his beliefs of Gnosticism. Later we will discuss Paul s views of Gnosticism.
Cerinthus was a Jewish Gnostic from Asia Minor who lived around 100 A.D. Gnosticism was perhaps
the most well known in Alexandria because from there haled Valentinus most famous of all
Alexandrian Gnostics. Valentinus wrote his Letter to Rheginos in order to clarify the standpoint of
Gnostics in regards to redemption and that freeing of the spirit comes not by

Military Tattoos
In an attempt to rectify this, some employers will hire people who do have tattoos and certain
piercings, usually ones that do not live big gaping holes exposed on your face when you take them
out, but will then ask them to cover up. A reasonable compromise, but it still feels like a censorship is
in the works at that point, but this is suitable for now in the movement. However in certain jobs
wearing a long sleeve shirt to cover up a tattoo sleeve can be harmful to the worker. Such situations
would be those who have to work in an outdoor environment during the sweltering summers, such as
my job with the city, but luckily I only have tattoos that are covered up by a short sleeved shirt.
And some of these businesses include areas of the police force and the military. Captain Mark
Strobridge of the Orange County Sheriff s stated, What we re seeing is a trend, with younger people
coming out of the military and they re getting more tattoos. We find highly qualified individuals, but

Homosexuality In Dracula
The sexuality downplayed in the Victorian culture is able to be exploited in Stoker s writing because
of the social norm to express sexuality through literature. The cultural (literary and aesthetic) was
consumed with images of mystical, deadly and sexually enticing female subjects to exemplify what a
fallen woman is (Moore). A painting by E.C. Barnes made in the 1860 s shows the moral downfalls of
a woman working in a city. The insinuations of the painting direct the viewer into seeing the darkness
and negative connotations of a working woman. There are implications to what may happen to the
woman if she lets her guard down. Woman of the Victorian era are able to relate to these paintings and
pieces of literature. They are warned of the dangers of displaying sexuality and intelligence. Aside
from warning culture of the dangers of immorality, authors and artists are able to give pleasure to the
culture through their pieces. Because of the conservative society, being sexually immoral is forbidden.

And again, before we delve into the novel, it is important to establish some historical context of Stoker
s own struggle with homosexuality. Stoker is himself, a hidden homosexual. Dracula is written a
month after Stoker s longtime partner, Oscar Wilde, is imprisoned for his homosexuality. Watching his
friend go through trial must have caused many of the internally conflicting emotions which led Stoker
to personally view (and portray) any sexuality as a vile and painful source of evil and despair
(Podonsky). Stoker must have felt guilt from what Wilde went through and it must have cultivated a
hate towards the homosexuality in himself. Now that we know Stoker s experience with
homosexuality, we can see how he places it in such a bad light throughout

from The Woman on The Roof by Doris Lessing (Pg. 538 545). Tom that is 17 years old boy married
and in love the woman on top of the roof shows how immature and naïve he was due to his acts after
being rejected. At first, he believes that the woman could be called by Tom s appearance or even his
age without even know that Tom exist, also Tom dared himself to approached to the woman as if they
had met before besides that he still believing that he could have the chance to get along with the
woman Tom suffer he does not interpret her indifference as rejection as any of the man does.
As a result, Tom behave so Immature by trying to calm down his anger by getting drunk, as the
narrator clarifies Resentment of her at last move him off away down the ladder, through the building,
into the street. He got drunk them, in hatred of her. (Pg. 544). That really demonstrate how Tom had
an irrelevant attitude of being immature and naïve because he got obsess with a woman that was not
for him, and instead of move on as Stanley did he decided to behave worst than a kid without realizing
it.
Despite Tom was rejected by the woman, I believe he learn how to double check himself before
approaching to a random woman that do not even pay attention to him. On top of that, Tom learned
that he was wrong on his Feminist concepts about woman have to love him and reach for them
whenever he is looking for a woman. In the same way Tom never thought that he was harassing the
woman the author mentioned I ... I came to ... make your acquaintance, he stammered, grinning,
pleading with her. (pg.544) With that being said it is fact that he trespassed the woman s roof believing
that she most talk to him just because the fact that he is present. Moreover, I could also compare Tom
such a Frustrate , he was acting like a baby asking for milk without

The Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag Essay
1. The Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag is constructed by its famous Monogram Canvas. The monogram
canvas contains the famous LV design. An often misconception about the Speedy bag is that the bag
itself is derived from cotton and is not actually leather, it is just manufactured to feel as though it is.
However, the handles, stamp on the front, and pulls anywhere else on the bag are in fact leather. The
bags are water resistant, durable and easy to clean. They come in four different sizes; 25, 30, 35, 40.
The speedy bag is an iconic piece from all Louis Vuitton Collections. The bag originated from Paris as
that is where Louis Vuitton himself is from. The size 25 Speedy bag is priced at $950, the 30 at $970,
the 35 at $990 and the 40 at $1,010 (Louis Vuitton). The Speedy itself comes in three different colors,
the original LV Monogram Canvas, the Damier Ebene Canvas, and the Damier Azur Canvas. This
item can be bought in any Louis Vuitton retailer including online. The Speedy bag can also be bought
in the following department stores, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney s,
Bloomingdales, and many other high end department retailers.
2. A. The demographics for Louis Vuitton are older customers in a wealthier working class. They
target both men and women with a high disposable income, and are well professionals in their
everyday life (the retailer). What is interesting about the demographics for Louis Vuitton, is that there

Midterm Assignment Photo Essay Waterdown is a small community which has been a part of the
greater community of Hamilton, Ontario since the year 2001. The village of Waterdown is home to
approximately 19,500 people and its population is continuously growing. Waterdown can be described
as an up and coming area. In the last few years the town has seen numerous residential and
commercial areas pop up in what seems like a matter of days; the community is rapidly changing. As
an individual who has lived in Waterdown my whole life, all this change can be a bit overwhelming
because I have grown attached to my hometown and specifically, my neighbourhood.

of place in regards to my neighbourhood. Fouberg et al (2015), suggests that we need look beyond
physical characteristics and consider how particular places makes us feel and the meanings we hold
for those places. To this day, all of my major life events have occurred in Waterdown, many in this

found myself becoming homesick during my first year at university because I was not emotionally

This is a photograph of my street Overdale Avenue. This image is included because it represents the
normal activity of my street. My street is quiet, there is rarely any traffic and few travel down it by
foot due to lack of sidewalks and streetlights. In my opinion, the lack of activity is the reason why the
occupants of Overdale Avenue are such a close knit group. Everyone has taken the time to learn about

Cell Phones Worst
Over the ages of time, there has been a questionable invention, several considered to be a disaster, but
the worst by far is the cell phone. A cell phone is not the worst because it doesn t always work or its
design, but rather it provokes problems with distractions, is ruining communication, and contributes to
cyber bullying. Though viewed a cellphone is a helpful tool that most people have access to, it has
produced more negative effects on our health and well being rather than improved ourselves, and our
society. Schools enforce strict rules about the use of cell phones for the main reason such as students
not paying attention during class. Several students believed that just because they had the sound on

The Technology Of Driverless Cars Essay
Driverless Cars also known as, autonomous vehicles, seem to be the next big thing when it comes to
the future advancement of cars. In fact, Autonomous automobile test models have been on the road
since 2009, so far driving hundreds of thousands of miles without an accident (McDonald 6). Since
driverless cars are seeming to become a real thing in the future to come there s multiple questions on
how people feel about driverless cars. Is it a good thing? A bad thing? How will it affect our society in
years to come? Many people will argue that the technology of driverless cars is a bad idea and will
affect our society negatively in years to come. I argue that point and believe that companies should
introduce the technology of driverless cars because, it will have a positive impact on, not only cars,
but society in general in the mere future. When it comes to driverless cars and the impact that the
technology could bring, I m talking about the impact within people s safety, the users convenience in
mobility , the economy, and the technological advances in the car itself. That s just a couple ways that
a driverless car can be positive. In fact, Thomas Frey, a futurist who researches and understands fully
about the concept of driverless vehicles states that, there s many aspects of driverless cars that are
overwhelmingly positive (Frey 39). When it comes to people s safety, driverless cars could be safer
than people driving in an operated car. In the United States, the

Concert Analysis Of A Concert
The concert that I attended was played by Michael Kirkendoll on Wednesday, November 8 at Beall
Concert Hall. Kirkendoll played two pieces during the performance. The first was called Marriage,
Mile 55 From the Road, which talked about the disturbing tale of a man that explains how he
murdered his wife. The second piece, De Profundis, talked about a distal longing for love from a
homosexual man who was arrested because of who he loved. The first piece, Marriage, Mile 55 From
the Road, was played as a piano solo, with other forms of instrumentation coming from Kirkendoll
using his voice including both lyrical dictation and simple sound effects. He also used the piano as a
percussion instrument and a string instrument by slapping and hitting the wooden sides and reaching
over into the belly of the piano and plucking the strings like a guitar. There was not a specific tempo
used for this song, as it changed many times because the lyrical parts. Many times, the lyrics would
dictate tempo. Dissonance was used mainly because of the minor notation. This fit perfectly into the
horror theme that the composer was trying to express in his work. There was not a defined tempo as
Kirkendoll changed the timing in order to build suspense and further the plot. To my untrained ears,
Kirkendoll sounded like he was jumping around on the keyboard rather than keeping a specific tempo.
The music being played was complex to play, but especially hard to understand. The song Marriage,

defects and or flaws are either not observable to others or appear slightly to other s. This disorder is
also characterized by repetitive behaviors and mental acts as a response to their beliefs on their
personal appearance. These behaviors can include but are not limited to mirror checking, excessive
grooming, skin picking, and comparing ones appearance to others. According to the Diagnostic and

In addition, the DSM 5, this disorder also has a high comorbidity rate with major depressive disorder
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Another major clinical feature to this disorder is the
repetitive behaviors done to help alleviate the obsessions one is having about their appearance. Some
of these behaviors include seeking reassurance about their looks, excessive grooming, mirror
checking, comparison to others, and trying to camouflage the perceived defect/flaw. These seem to be
the most common behaviors done in association with BDD, however they are not exclusively limited
to this as each individual displays the disorder uniquely to their preoccupation. In a study of 33 youths
with BDD it was found that 94% camouflaged their defect, 73% sought reassurance from others, and
59% excessively groomed (Carroll et al., 2002). This disorder can become so clinically significant that
many youths avoid social situations, have issues regarding school, stop working, and become isolated
due to fear of how they think they look to others. On the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) it
was found that a mean score of 44.9 45.7 was reported, indicated serious symptoms and impairment

This paper reviews the effects of the universal health insurance mandate in the Massachusetts labor
market. Using a difference in differences (DID) model, this study focuses on the co evolution of
insurance coverage and labor markets. One found that under the recent legislation, workers from firms
of varying sizes demonstrate different patterns with regards to obtaining insurance coverage. While
employer sponsored health insurance is designed to be the primary source of coverage for
Massachusetts residents under reform, two legal loopholes exist in the employer mandate. For mid
sized organizations, the probability of part time employees working without employer provided
insurance has increased.

Similar to Massachusetts insurance reform, the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(PPACA) also features insurance exchanges, individual and employer mandates, and expanded
Medicaid coverage. Due to the similarity between the Massachusetts health reform and the Affordable
Care Act, much can be learned from Massachusetts s experience on implementing health insurance
coverage expansions and employer provided universal insurance coverage law. In other words, this
case offers insight into how some businesses and their employees might react to federal law
requirements.
Several studies sought to investigate the effect of the universal health reform and its impact on the
labor market outcomes, such as the unemployment rate and average wage (Buchmueller, 2013;
Kolstad, 2012). However, they failed to take into account the potential legal loopholes in part time
status, employer provided coverage and Medicaid, and the impact of companies size, even though
studies have shown that employer provided regulations are not equally demanding to different
businesses (Gruber, 2004).
The primary purpose of this paper is to determine whether the Massachusetts healthcare reform has, in
fact, improved health insurance coverage. If the reform indeed improved the coverage, which channels
were utilized to accomplish this? In order to better assess this issue, one explored the

And in particular, objects created through the use of 3D printing have come into the world of

things like biological tissue. With all the medical issues that impact our world today, any new
innovation that seem to create another medical alternative seems like a great idea. This is an example

The beginning of 3D printing started in the 1980 s by an American inventor named Charles Hull
(Glass Ponsford,2014). What makes this trend new and relevant to past 4 years is the ability to
integrate various different materials to make microscopic materials. Examples of possibilities that
have come about because this micro technology include heart stents, microneedles for painless shots,
gecko adhesives, parts for microfluidics chips, and scaffolds for growing cells and tissue (Patel, 2013).
These ideas could provide a lot of the medical world in terms of treatment.
Recently the newest section of 3D printing, microscale printing, has made waves in the technological
advancements. One invention that seems extremely interesting is a bionic ear created by a group from
Princeton University. This bionic ear is functional ear that can hear radio frequencies far beyond the

Difficult Choices in David Guterson s Snow Falling on Cedars
It is mid 1950 s in predominantly white populated San Piedro Island. One of its residents has been
murdered and another stands accused of the crime. From the first chapter and through the use of
flashbacks, David Guterson makes us aware of the racism that exists in the small, West Coast island of
San Piedro. The victim, Carl Heine, is of European descent; the accused man, Kabuo Miyamoto, is of
Japanese ancestry. There also is a small community of Japanese residents on San Piedro Island. David

Islanders do not have any desire to acquire a better understanding of the Japanese residents and their
culture. This fact is very important when we consider that Kabuo s personality is bringing him closer
to a guilty verdict, not because of guilt, but because of overall ignorance and prejudice.
Guterson exploits racism and prejudice as a choice by presenting the reader with characters that are
influenced by it. The victim had been a friend of the accused during childhood, yet they are portrayed
as prejudiced at some point after the war. We see this during Kabuo s summation of the events. Carl
says I was out at sea, fighting you goddamn Japs sons a to which Kabuo replies, I killed men who
looked just like you pig fed German bastards.... So don t you talk to me about Japs, you big Nazi son
of a bitch (404). They had both been to war and it seems that this event has torn apart their ability to
be fair.
The characterization of Etta Heine is one of extreme hatred. Her character is presented as a flat
individual consumed by racism. This is evident when Etta is called to testify during the inception of
the trial. She tells a story full of hate, resentment and envy. Etta did not approve selling part of her
land to a Japanese and her argument against it illustrates it: We re not such paupers as to sell to Japs,
are we? (120). It is not because she doesn t like the money or because she cared about the island or for

Gettysburg was the turning point in the American Civil War. Back in the day s before animation. More
importantly Gettysburg was the climatic clash between the two major American cultures of their time:
the North and the South. A climax of a conflict between two cultures with such vastly different ideals
that they could not coexist in one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
When looking at the causes of the Civil War, and eventually the Battle of Gettysburg, one must
understand the differences between these two cultures. The Confederacy had an agricultural economy

come to the date of July 1, 1863.
The stage was set for an immense struggle at Gettysburg after the May 1863 Battle of Chancellors

Reasons For The Death Of Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet are a play based on two star crossed lovers who ended in tragedy. Love, Irrational
thinking and the family feud among the two households along with Tybalt provoking fights, and Lord
Capulet forcing Juliet to marry Count Paris whom she did not want to marry. The three main reasons
for the death of Romeo and Juliet are the characters Lord Capulet and Tybalt as well as timing and fate
of all the events and confrontations leading up to their deaths. Lord Capulet forced Juliet into a
marriage that she had no say in and was only to the benefit of her father. Tybalt provoked many fights
with both Romeo and Mercutio his friend, in turn, eventually killing Mercutio. Romeo then kills
Tybalt worsening Romeo and Juliet s relationship by pulling them apart. Finally, the feud among the
two households from the get go prohibited their relationship. All in all, these three aspects of the play
lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet, the father and Mother of
Juliet were the first decisive factor in pulling apart Romeo and Juliet. The parents of Juliet constant
mission to court her to Count Paris affect Juliet in many ways. It gave her hatred for her father and
mother as well as hurting Romeo and Juliet s marriage. Lord Capulet put stress and unwanted tension
between the two lovers in turn affecting their decision making ability. Although unknown to him, Lord

Eyewitness Testimony as a Source of Reliable Evidence
Eyewitness Testimony as a source of reliable evidence
In relation to cognitive psychology, is eyewitness testimony reliable in today s judicial system?
Word Count: 3944
ABSTRACT
Is eyewitness testimony a reliable source of evidence in today s judicial system? Many jurors tend to
pay close attention to eyewitness testimony assuming that what they hear is exactly as it happened.
They ignore the psychology behind remembering an event. Our brain is a complex structure and it is
difficult to absorb every stimulus in our surrounding. We pay great attention to some aspects of a
situation while completely ignoring others. It is advisable for expert psychologists to be present during
a court case that involves eyewitness testimony, as they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Human memory is seen as an unreliable source when we apply the idea of reconstructive and
interpretative nature of memory to eyewitness testimony. The probability of people being wrongly
accused increases as the importance of eyewitness testimony in the cases of accidents and crimes
increases, and therefore the guilty do not come to justice (Gross, 64). Many experiments conclude that
law professionals and judges rely and place their decisions on eyewitness testimony, however,
researchers investigated on situations whereby the innocent had been accused. As cited in Miller s
article (2006), Gary Wells (1998) researched on forty such cases and with the help of DNA testing it
was found that all forty convicted suspects were actually innocent. The witnesses wrongfully accused
the suspects in thirty six of these cases.
The human brain has a limited capacity to deal with the incoming information but yet every moment
we encounter a large variety of stimuli like sights, sounds and smells. However, as mentioned above if
we encounter stimuli which conflict with our schemas, we reconstruct our memory in order to fit our
schemas. The human brain therefore focuses on some aspects of the situation while ignoring the others
in order to cope with the sensory barrage. This process of choosing stimuli is called selective
attention. Eyewitnesses tend to collect information that relates to their interests and may ignore other
vital aspects

viewed. On average, at least 70% of participants recognized a seat belt PSA, so PSAs stick in the
memory of those who view them (US Department of Transportation, 2017). According to the US
Department of Transportation (2017), around 60% participants agreed that it was often or always
necessary for dynamic PSA signs on roads. In addition, the majority of participants strongly agreed
that it was very important to provide information on putting away mobile phones while driving. This
shows that people are aware of the problem of distracted driving, and agree that awareness of this
problem in others is extremely important. Finally, the participants were asked if would change their
behavior if they saw a PSA that said eyes on the road, hands on the wheel , don t be a distracted driver
, or drive safely, text later it can wait . The overwhelming majority answered maybe, probably yes, or
definitely yes (US Department of Transportation, 2017). PSAs do make a huge difference in driving

understand furthermore Brill s pathetic nature. This defines Brill s character as one of an idealist,
making everyone and everything seem alive and interesting. She seems to be loosing a sense of reality
and her idea what is important is somewhat warped.
Miss Brill intricately observes every little detail of the happenings around her illustrating the extent to
which she has lost a grasp on reality. She makes note of everything from attire and attitudes, to body
language and actions. Brill takes a kind of pride in her ability to eavesdrop. They were odd, silent,
nearly all old, and from the way they stared they looked as though they d just come from dark little
rooms or even little cupboards! (Mansfield 99). Miss Brill excludes herself from the rest of the people.
Even when elderly people come into view, she quickly distances herself from them as though different
when in fact she too is old and resides in a cupboard of her own. Brill associates and relates herself to
only the younger and more attractive people. The people which society deems the most acceptable.
Now everything, her hair, her face, even her eyes , was the same color as the shabby ermine, and her
hand, in its cleaned glove, lifted to dab her lips, was a tiny yellowish paw. Oh, she was so pleased to
see him delighted! (Mansfield 98) Miss Brill describes her and her

Effects Of Caffeine On The Body Metabolism
Caffeine is one of the most prevalent drugs consumed around the world, and is frequently used by
athletes in efforts to enhance their performance. It is defined by the Medical Dictionary as A bitter
white alkaloid, C8H10N4O2 that stimulates the central nervous system and body metabolism (2010).
Some believe that increasing their caffeine intake will then improve their energy and endurance levels
during long term sporting events such as running, biking, or swimming. Caffeine is found in an
assortment of foods and drinks including but not limited to coffee, tea, cokes and cola products,
chocolate and energy drinks. Caffeine can also be found in some over the counter medications.
In a recent research study produced by the Kinesiology Department of Delaware University, the
following findings were presented: that caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and stimulant; caffeine can
increase blood pressure by contracting the heart and blood vessels in non habitual users; caffeine
changes the electro physiological activity of the heart, increasing conductivity, even in limited doses
(University of Delaware). In regards to the gastrointestinal side effects, the UD study wrote that
caffeine stimulates gastric secretion, stating that some individuals are sensitive to caffeine and suffer
ill effects such as acid indigestion, heartburn, abdominal pain, gas or constipation to varying degrees.
In addition, caffeine inhibits vasopressin, and it acts as a powerful diuretic. Liver metabolism is

Relationship Between Friendship Quality And The Amount Of...
Friendship quality in connection to time spent with romantic partner Humans are naturally a social
species (Furman, 1999). People engage in different types of relationships throughout their entire lives.
Certain relationships are lifelong, others maybe just a day or even a few seconds. Among those longer
lasting relationships, are friendships and romantic relationships. Nearly all people can relate to both at
some point in life, however, do the two ever intermix? Based upon personal experience, I have found
it can be problematic to balance both types of relationships. Friends of mine have dedicated much time
to their significant others and neglected the friendships they had first established. Unfortunately, it can
be difficult to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As part of the study, the boys were asked to rate the quality of their friendships. In support of positive
friendships, it was found that the boys who were in the resilience category had higher friendship
ratings than those that were not able to overcome hardships. Leading one to believe the support given
by the excellent friends helped the kids overcome the adversity. Girls also prove friendship to be
supportive through life. Researchers found that although girls and boys tend to approach offering
support in different ways, having a support system through friends develops an emotional closeness
(Rose, Smith, Glick, Schwartz Mette, 2016). Furthermore, friendships have also been noted to make
an impact on what college students contribute their success to (Killoren, Streit, Alfaro, Delgado,
Johnson, 2016). Additional benefits to friendships have been distinguished through research as well.
Throughout a lifetime, friendships adapt and change based upon developmental phases and transitions
(Hartup Stevens, 1997). In this way, friendships are flexible and essentially ever changing. An
advantage to having enduring friendships is ensuring a sense of an overall well being in addition to
what has already been stated. Moreover, aside from friendship contributing to psychological and
mental health, friendship also provides advantages to physical health. Friendships provide social
support that reduces stress levels

The Government Is Subsidizing What Robert Reich Has A ``...
It might come as a surprise to learn that the government is subsidizing what Robert Reich has called a
plutocratic bias in the charitable sector at a steep cost to the national treasury. This is in large part
because the charitable tax deduction, which serves as the charitable sector s primary financing
mechanism, creates tax incentive structures for donors that are steeply regressive. In 2012, tax
subsidies to the charitable sector cost the government more than $50 billion in lost tax revenue. Given
the billions of dollars in government subsidies and donations, it seems only reasonable to ask if this
sector actually supports charity by meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in our society, which
is what we have historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consider these high profile examples of the mega donor phenomenon: billionaire donor financier
Stephen Schwartzman just gave Yale University $150 million in May 2015 for a cultural center, while
hedge fund manager John Paulson gave Harvard $400 million weeks later for its engineering school.
As part of the deal, Yale s new cultural center will bear Schwartzman s name, and Harvard s
engineering school will be rechristened in Paulson s honor. Both will receive handsome tax deductions
as a result of their self aggrandizing gifts (with no decrease in that deduction to account for the
ostensible value in having buildings with their names on them). Mind you, Harvard and Yale are the
two wealthiest universities in the world, each with endowments over $20 billion. This raises the
question: should the government be subsidizing hundred million dollar donations from the wealthy to
such well endowed institutions? Is this use of the charitable tax deduction defensible?
The tax code is directly implicated in this: there is no economic incentive for low income people to
donate to charity since the only way to claim a charitable tax deduction is if you itemize, and most low
income people do not itemize their tax returns. That fact alone prevents millions of taxpayers from
helping to set the agenda of the charitable sector in the way that the wealthier are incentivized to do
through the

I Will Never Lose Patience And If I Do, I Will Work Harder
I will never lose patience and if I do, I will work harder to achieve this valuable virtue. Being patient
with my athletes and keeping communication channels open, empathetic, and positive with sound
reinforcements and corrections will allow me to be more effective in the long run. I will never allow
myself or my athletes to get bored. Getting bored forces their concentration outside the sphere to a
daydream state which can be detrimental if hanging on the side of mountain or engaged in a fast break
in basketball. I will never allow myself or my athletes to be overly tasked to a point where negative
learning occurs or where frustrations rule the moment. This is a potential area for physical injury or a

SA is knowing and integrating the past and present with a forecast for the future and then creating a
sound plan of action to achieve another short term goal in the staircase toward a performance goal.
This requires the person to be also engaged in the moment with sound decision making as a response
to the feedback they just received in their dynamic environment. The ability to concentrate, to focus
on the moment with intentional effort, to be consistent, committed, adaptable, disciplined, confident,
calm, and composed are just a few of the characteristics required to achieve this high state of
situational awareness. Without situational awareness, the athlete or fighter pilot will be behind the jet
or lagging in their sport with poor performance aimed toward failure. The ability to refocus and get
back in the game with total concentration on the moment to regain SA is one of the toughest items on
the agenda as an athlete. The better one is prepared mentally and physically for all aspects of the flight
or the game increases their chances of maintaining this SA and the degree of concentration needed for
that event. Realizing that one can only control their attitude, effort, and focus also plays into this
complex, individualized ability to concentrate. According to Dr. Robert Alkov, a noted human factors
in aviation expert, selective

The House On Mango Street Compare And Contrast
The House on Mango Street, written by Sandra Cisneros, is a novel about a young girl growing up in
the Latino area of Chicago. It is highly admired and is taught in a plethora of grade schools and
universities. The House on Mango Street expresses the story of Esperanza Cordero, whose
neighborhood is full of harsh realities and jarring beauty. Esperanza doesn t want to belong not to her
run down neighborhood, and not to the low expectations the world has for her. Esperanza s story is of
a young girl coming into her power, and inventing what she will become for herself. While Esperanza
and the other women have many differences, as in the way she is fortunate to avoid the pitfalls of her
environment and others are not, there are just as many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She tells the neighborhood is getting bad (15) , therefore is longing to quickly escape from Mango,
like Esperanza. However, Cathy differs from Esperanza in unique aspects. Cathy is quick to bring
others down and expose their flaws; she doesn t adore communicating with others who differ from her
mannerisms. Cathy gets upset at Esperanza when she decides to befriend Lucy and Rachel. The two
sisters wear crooked and old clothes and shiny Sunday shoes without socks. Although they aren t
refined, Esperanza likes them for how they act, not look. She doesn t judge others as quickly as Cathy
does and is more accepting. Next is Marin; she is a beautiful green eyed Puerto Rican woman. She
sells Avon products and babysits to make a living. Her family lives in Puerto Rico and she s living
with her cousin, saving money for when she goes back to Puerto Rico. Alike Esperanza, Marin is
hardworking; she desires a real job where you could wear nice clothing and look beautiful. Marin
often relishes in singing and dancing and dreams of getting married to a wealthy gentleman that will
take her to a large house far away, altering her life forever, unlike Esperanza who doesn t wish to be
tied down in

  • 5. Caged Bird Analysis The role of voices in text is to give meaning and to highlight the composer s attitudes and beliefs. Maya Angelou s politically complex voice in Caged Bird explores her belief in the human rights for equality, and the freedom for every individual regardless of race or creed. Paradoxically Bruce Dawe s satirical and judgmental voice in Enter without so much knocking (Knock) conveys his criticisms of society s shallow meaningless life. Caged Bird by Angelou makes the audience reconsider the real conditions of the free bird and the caged bird . This contrast between the birds throughout the poem enables her to explore the issues of freedom and isolation in African American society. Angelou utilises various literary devices and techniques such as repetition, irony and imagery to convey her attitudes and beliefs about the beauty of freedom. Repetition is used when the poem repeats the third stanza at the end of the poem to further emphasis freedom, this reflects the two birds that are different. for the caged bird sings of freedom is the last line of stanza three conveying an important message to the readers, that the caged bird wants to be free. This allows the reader to conclude that every individual should be aware and thankful for the freedom in their society. Although less direct in conveying Angelou s attitudes and beliefs, she adequately utilises irony to enable us to further appreciate freedom. In stark contrast, MCM 41 and UVM 7 show much different magnetic properties after successful incorporation into the silica pores. Notably, the χMT term for both silicas is higher than expected for magnetically isolated Ni8 molecules (such as those in UVM 11) which supports the presence of repeating Ni8 units forming [Ni8]x aggregates. χMT also reaches a maximum at a range of 3 10 K, in contrast to the Tmax = 3 K of the SMM alone where Tmax generally increases with increasing loading amount. This behavior can be rationalized due to magnetic anisotropy and/or antiferromagnetic interactions between aggregates. A proposed mechanism consists of Ni8 SMMs filling the silica pores and consequent aggregation which is mediated by deprotonated silanol groups present on the pores (Fig. 4). In turn [Ni8]x aggregates, joined by Ni O Ni bonds interact in a ferromagnetic manner which allows for the Ni8 monomers to undergo magnetic exchange interactions. This mechanism holds up to a point, a 100% loading amount results in packing which imposes a steric strain on the filamentous [Ni8]x and pushes the Ni O Ni angle towards a higher value, prompting antiferromagnetic interactions leading to a decrease in magnetic susceptibility. However they did not believe as Christians do that Jesus was the incarnate of God because they believed that all material is evil and that God could not take on the form of a human who died and rose bodily. Since driverless cars are seeming to become a real thing in the future to come there s multiple questions on how people feel about driverless cars. Is it a good thing? A bad thing? How will it affect our society in years to come? Many people will argue that the technology of driverless cars is a bad idea and will affect our society negatively in years to come. I argue that point and believe that companies should introduce the technology of driverless cars because, it will have a positive impact on, not only cars, but society in general in the mere future. When it comes to driverless cars and the impact that the technology could bring, I m talking about the impact within people s safety, the users convenience in mobility , the economy, and the technological advances in the car itself. The second piece, De Profundis, talked about a distal longing for love from a homosexual man who was arrested because of who he loved. The first piece, Marriage, Mile 55 From the Road, was played as a piano solo, with other forms of instrumentation coming from Kirkendoll using his voice including both lyrical dictation and simple sound effects. Furthermore, friendships have also been noted to make an impact on what college students contribute their success to (Killoren, Streit, Alfaro, Delgado, Johnson, 2016). Additional benefits to friendships have been distinguished through research as well. Throughout a lifetime, friendships adapt and change based upon developmental phases and transitions (Hartup Stevens, 1997). In this way, friendships are flexible and essentially ever changing. An advantage to having enduring friendships is ensuring a sense of an overall well being in addition to what has already been stated. Moreover, aside from friendship contributing to psychological and mental health, friendship also provides advantages to physical health. • 42. The Government Is Subsidizing What Robert Reich Has A ``... It might come as a surprise to learn that the government is subsidizing what Robert Reich has called a plutocratic bias in the charitable sector at a steep cost to the national treasury. This is in large part because the charitable tax deduction, which serves as the charitable sector s primary financing mechanism, creates tax incentive structures for donors that are steeply regressive. In 2012, tax subsidies to the charitable sector cost the government more than $50 billion in lost tax revenue. Given the billions of dollars in government subsidies and donations, it seems only reasonable to ask if this sector actually supports charity by meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in our society, which is what we have historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consider these high profile examples of the mega donor phenomenon: billionaire donor financier Stephen Schwartzman just gave Yale University $150 million in May 2015 for a cultural center, while hedge fund manager John Paulson gave Harvard $400 million weeks later for its engineering school. As part of the deal, Yale s new cultural center will bear Schwartzman s name, and Harvard s engineering school will be rechristened in Paulson s honor. Both will receive handsome tax deductions as a result of their self aggrandizing gifts (with no decrease in that deduction to account for the ostensible value in having buildings with their names on them). Mind you, Harvard and Yale are the two wealthiest universities in the world, each with endowments over $20 billion. This raises the question: should the government be subsidizing hundred million dollar donations from the wealthy to such well endowed institutions? Is this use of the charitable tax deduction defensible? The tax code is directly implicated in this: there is no economic incentive for low income people to donate to charity since the only way to claim a charitable tax deduction is if you itemize, and most low income people do not itemize their tax returns. That fact alone prevents millions of taxpayers from helping to set the agenda of the charitable sector in the way that the wealthier are incentivized to do through the ... • 43. I Will Never Lose Patience And If I Do, I Will Work Harder I will never lose patience and if I do, I will work harder to achieve this valuable virtue. Being patient with my athletes and keeping communication channels open, empathetic, and positive with sound reinforcements and corrections will allow me to be more effective in the long run. I will never allow myself or my athletes to get bored. Getting bored forces their concentration outside the sphere to a daydream state which can be detrimental if hanging on the side of mountain or engaged in a fast break in basketball. I will never allow myself or my athletes to be overly tasked to a point where negative learning occurs or where frustrations rule the moment. This is a potential area for physical injury or a hit on their confidence and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SA is knowing and integrating the past and present with a forecast for the future and then creating a sound plan of action to achieve another short term goal in the staircase toward a performance goal. This requires the person to be also engaged in the moment with sound decision making as a response to the feedback they just received in their dynamic environment. The ability to concentrate, to focus on the moment with intentional effort, to be consistent, committed, adaptable, disciplined, confident, calm, and composed are just a few of the characteristics required to achieve this high state of situational awareness. Without situational awareness, the athlete or fighter pilot will be behind the jet or lagging in their sport with poor performance aimed toward failure. The ability to refocus and get back in the game with total concentration on the moment to regain SA is one of the toughest items on the agenda as an athlete. The better one is prepared mentally and physically for all aspects of the flight or the game increases their chances of maintaining this SA and the degree of concentration needed for that event. Realizing that one can only control their attitude, effort, and focus also plays into this complex, individualized ability to concentrate.
