How Much Influence Has A Little Country Have On The Great...
Just how much influence could a little country have on the great United States of America? One may
be surprised. With a size slightly less than twice the size of New Jersey, Switzerland has a lot to offer
for its size (The World Factbook). The country is located in central Europe, north of Italy and east of
France, and shares their temperate climate. This landlocked terrain mostly consists of mountains, with
a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes (The World Factbook). Despite their relatively
small size and their centralized location, they have a large influence on the rest of the world.
Specifically to the United States, the Swiss have brought their culture, merchandise, and services to
share with the people of America. Switzerland has a relatively short history. In 1291 A.D., the Swiss
Confederation was founded as a defense alliance between three cantons of modern day Uri, Schwyz,
and Unterwalden (Schelbert). Wars of conquest and arranged alliances grew the confederation
(Schelbert). In 1499, the Confederation gained its independence from the Holy Roman Empire (The
World Factbook). In 1515, the now 13 canton confederation ended their expansion with their defeat in
northern Italy at the battle of Marignano (Schelbert). The Swiss Confederation then started conducting
the practice of armed neutrality (Schelbert). Despite this neutrality, the Protestant Reformation had the
people of the Confederation split into hostile camps and threatened the

Education, Critique, Parody or commentary. Professor Faden has been wrongly accused of Copyright

Fair use allows anyone to use only small portions of a copyrighted without permission from the author

There is a sub form of parody known as mash up . A mash up is taking several short clips and audio
from several movies, shows, etc, and compiling them together to convey a message or to just give
humor to the people who are going to view the mash up. Since fair use allows anyone to use small
portions of the work, mashups fall perfectly under fair use since they are just short sequences strung
together in one completed work.
The video also offers some critical commentary on some commentary on certain copyright laws and
the amount of power given to the owners in a slightly comical way, characters being shocked at there
being limitations to the iron grip of Copyright owners , and being angry at the strictness of fair use and
how fair use favors the distributor over the

Military Dedication Research Paper
Dedication in the Military The word Dedication can be used to describe many things, such as
dedicating a work of art to a person or group of people. Additionally, dedicating a new building or
roadway to commemorate its completion is a form of dedication. What Dedication means to the
military member is something different all together and something not many get to experience. No
matter what branch of service or what country you serve, the dedication is the same for all. Though the
history of each branch of the armed forces is different, the dedication is the same. The willingness to
serve is the same. The sacrifice is the same (Mueller). Being dedicated to the military means changing
your whole life around. Becoming a new person and starting a new way of life. ... Show more content

Heaps of paper work to fill out and submit, as well as numerous physical and mental tests are just the
start of a long road ahead. Once a future military member passes this process then it is off to the initial
stage of military training, also known as boot camp or basic training. The training various from branch
to branch but for the majority is the same. 2 months of intense training away from home, surrounded
by hundreds of people you don t know that you are forced to work with. This stage of military service
is set to test your dedication to joining. Is this really worth it for everything you are put through?
Some will find it here that their dedication is not as high as they originally thought and will end up

Judy Bacas Murals Essay
An Inspiration Across Cultures
Public art conquers so much more than the simple task of making the street a little easier to look at. It
involves those who created it, those who supplied the means to create it, and those whose lives it
continues to impact. Wall paintings in particular take an important role in working for a greater good.
Judith F. Baca, a Hispanic American woman and artist activist has contributed an unaccountable
amount to the mural movement in Los Angeles. She has accomplished this by giving individuals the
chance to create art and develop a sense of pride, she has taught younger generations a respect for
their ethnic identity, and from the many walks of life that continue to view her ... Show more content

The simple fact that Baca is a woman is extremely important when it comes to evaluating her impact
on others. Being a woman and reaching out for social change the way that Judy Baca does takes much
dedication and passion. Bell hooks writes about the commodification of women in the art world: ...an
undiscerning marketplace seeks to confine, limit, and even destroy our artistic freedom and practice.
(Hooks 1981, 17). While Baca comes from the historically challenged feminine perspective, she can
reach the youth that she works with because of their disadvantaged perspective as well. They are more
apt to listen and learn from her because she has already overcome the challenge of succeeding in as a
Hispanic American woman in a patriarchal society.
Baca s commitment led her to found the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) along with
film maker Donna Dietch and artist Christina Schlesinger in Venice, California. SPARC has facilitated
in the creation, preservation and documentation of public art in the Los Angeles area. In this way
SPARC has been able to get the community involved in art and has given a voice to peoples of color.
In addition, the center has organized symposia and exhibitions that draw attention to the multitude of
cultures that make up the area as well as the entire country (Brown 1996, 28).

Why Do People Use Natural Gas
Natural gas is one of the most beneficial resource our environment has to offer to us and people need
to use this resource because it is so cheap. Companies include the Prius with Toyota, the Leaf with
Nissan or another innovation in electric or hybrid motoring who are using electricity in their cars
because they are trying to get in to the environmental friendly automotive market. Honda came out
with a better idea when they made the Honda Civic Natural Gas car. The reasons being, this car is
different than those of the electric cars is that it uses natural gas to run the car and the positive effect it
has on the environment is the fact that when using the resource it gives off partial zero emissions into
the environment. Honda Civic has really changed the automobile industry because people are copying
their idea of using natural gas to run their cars like Chevy did with their 2014 F 150 truck and ... Show

save about 926 dollars a year by switching to natural gas. Natural gas will help out many businesses

The Novel The Handmaid s Tale
The effect of words, powerless and innocent as they are, depending on the one who combines them
can have good and evil outcomes. In the hands of Margaret Atwood, she used her knowledge and
different interpretation of words in her dystopian novel The Handmaid s Tale in a very indirect and
devious way making her novel a treasure hunt in search of these key words for the understanding of
the novel. The novel takes place in Gilead, a very dark future of the United States, governed by a
theocratic government which oppresses women by making them handmaids in the name of religion to
cure the infertility of the population. The double entendre diction which exists throughout the whole
novel adds subliminal hints on the charactarisation of the characters, such as Offred, and to the story
itself, such as the religious political system that governs Gilead, which is a double entendre in itself.
These different plays on diction proves the oppression of our main character and proves how powerful
language can be. The main character of this novel, Offred, proves to be very analytical in her thoughts
in various instances in the novel but the reader can t understand the complete meaning of this. For
example, when Offred was talking about her daily routine after getting up from bed and sitting in the
chair and think about the word char. It can also mean the leader of a meeting. It can also mean a mode
of execution. It is the first syllable in chanty. It is the French world for flesh. None of

In the 1920s an age of relative affluence, Thoreau was popularly seen as a rebel. Thoreau s ideals are
inoperative in the real, everyday world, and because he will not compromise his ideals, at all, they
have no effect upon the world: they are politically useless. (TAMU) Another Critic, Vernon
Parrington, would praise Thoreau as truly original and independent. In the 1930s, James MacKaye
would turn to the politics and denounce them, because he saw no cooperation and devoid of reason.
(TAMU) Starting, into the 1940 s there was plenty universal appeal, in the aspect of usefulness
(TAMU). In 1960 s Thoreau became not only relevant but almost a popular icon. Emerson, another
famous writer said He was bred to no profession; he never went to church; he never voted; he refused
to pay a tax to the State; he ate no flesh; he drank no wine; he never knew the use of tobacco; and,
though a naturalist, he used neither trap nor gun. Meyers claimed that Thoreau was violent and
nonviolent which would seem to follow from the dichotomy of messages in Resistance to Civil
Government.

Dane-Zaa Oral History Summary
In Dane Zaa Oral History: Why It s Not Hearsay, Robin Ridington introduces an historical Canadian
court case in which oral history was introduced. (Ridington 38) She discusses evidence provided by
elders, anthropologists, historians, and other experts (Ridington 39) to demonstrate why oral history is
not hearsay. In addition, Ridington provides an in depth analysis of Dane Zaa oral history in current
legal opinion regarding the admissibility of such evidence. (Ridington 39) Ridington argues that the
usage of oral history in Canadian courts provides further insight into little known cases and therefore
is considered legitimate evidence and not hearsay. As Ridington begins her article she starts by

nations chief and council. (Ridington 44) The outcome of her research produced the manuscript
Where happiness Dwells: A History of the Dane Zaa First Nations. (Ridington 44) Ridington shares
one of the stories she collected from a Doig elder Aku in 1966. (Ridington 44) The stories protagonist
is a direct ancestor of the Diog community. It tells of a individual named Duuk isachin and the power
of his vision quest (Ridington 45) to save his village. The story takes place in a valley located near a
river surrounded by mountains, a close description to the Finlay River and Rocky Mountain Trench.
(Ridington 45) Ridington points out that it is not only an important story to the Diog people but also
for historians as it places their ancestors in the Rocky Mountain Trench before western contact. The
oral history accounts of Duuk isachin s life provide a Dane Zaa perspective on the early years of the
Fur trade. (Ridington 46) Dane Zaa oral histories provide a full of detail description of past events,
unlike written documents that have pieces of the story missing. Ridington concludes with arguing that
oral history is an authentic account of past events and is not

The War On Drugs And Drugs Essay
The war on drugs have been a critical issue that has repeatedly held a great debate topic. It was in the
1906 when the first act against drug was put into effect with the Pure Food and Drug Act which
required all over the counter medication to have label of its ingredients. Under President Nixon the
first executive branch office to coordinate drug policy was formed and the Comprehensive Drug
Abuse Prevention and Control Act was put into place. Two years following that the Drug Enforcement
Agency (DEA) was formed. The funding for the war on drugs had greatly increased over the decades
and has reached the record of an annual budget of $17.8 billion which occurred in 1998. Much of the
budget is used to intervene drug flow on the U.S. border and for interdiction according to Cooper s
1993 War on Drugs article. Some people agree that having more man power at the U.S. border will
help eliminate the U.S. drug problem while others argue that even though having more people
working the border increases drug seizures there are still drugs continuing to enter the United States.
These may be the very people that believe in using the budget to provide more educational programs
to the younger generation and having prevention programs will help those that may have become a
drug user if not a addict. The last group of American do not believe either of those programs have
worked in the past and will not work in the future. With those options gone the only thing left to do it

Broken Window Theory Research Paper
Broken Windows policing refers to a form of policing that is based upon the broken windows theory,
which serves as a metaphor for disorder within neighborhoods. According to this theory, a direct
relationship exists between levels of disorder/incivility within a community and subsequent
occurences of serious crime; therefore, the greater the disorder, the greater chance of serious crime
offenses occuring, and vice versa. Broken windows policing works in cohesion with this theory to
combat disorder within a neighborhood/community before it manifests into serious crime (ie: fix the
broken window before the entire house becomes neglected or ruined). To do this, foot patrol was
enforced, which, in additon to battling disorder, attempted to improve community engagement,
partnership, and trust.
Broken windows (ie: foot patrol) policing is different from traditional policing in several ways, the
biggest of which is the way that police integrates/communicates with the public. This style of policing
is much more intimate, and allows the police to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Five years after the program implementing this style of policing was enforced, the Police Foundation
in Washington, D.C., published an evaluation of the foot patrol project, showing that foot patrol had
not reduced crime rates. Additionally, the article How A Theory Of Crime And Policing Was Born,
And Went Terribly Wrong, cited that crime rates in New York (where the broken windows approach
had appeared to have been wildly successful) had already been dropping prior to the implementation
of this approach/the election of Guiliani who was in support of this style of policing. Not only this, but
crime dropped not just in New York, but in many other cities where nothing like broken windows
policing was in place, leading me to conclude that the drop in crime existed separately from the
practice of broken windows

Project Cat Pill Essay
Do you have a cat? Does it take medicine? If so, Project Cat Pill details the ongoing struggle of giving
your feline friend a tiny white medicine pill. In Project Cat Pill, the author uses high comedy through
puns and hyperboles to convey the idea that when you choose a pet, make sure it s the best one to fit
your lifestyle. The story represents a high comedy since you have to know a cats behavior. There are a
few examples of why it s high, In the book, the narrator says Chase the cat to the tree. (Pg 1) If you
didn t know cats could hop and jog, then the story would be unclear. Since the main character, the
narrator has to give his pet cat a pill. In conclusion, Project Cat Pill is a high comedy due to details

When he is chasing the cat around his house, it scratches him to a high extent. After this, Tell your
wife to drive you to the ER, (Pg 2) is said. This shows how insanely hard that the cat is trying to
escape the white pill. In doing so, apparently, your wife, not you, will drive to the ER due to the
extreme extent of the injury. This is all due to a minuscule white cylinder. In conclusion, the main
comedy used in the passage is wordplay, as this is seen many times. The story also uses hyperboles to
exaggerate the very stretched truth of cats. After the cat makes a daring escape once again, the room is
destroyed. This causes the passage to say, Replace the shattered figurines you bought on eBay. It
seems like they took only a quick mental note, as the cat is the center of the universe. The pill seems
to take importance over all your belongings that you bought for a lot of money. This is clearly an
exaggerated part of the story of the cat s great escapade. In conclusion, hyperboles are used to
exaggerate the furry felines role of hiding from the evil ridden

Clara Barton
I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can
stand and feed and nurse them. A quote by Clara Barton, American civil war nurse and founder of the
American National Red Cross (Lewis). By many, Clara is said to be The Angel of The Battlefield ,
how does one acquire such a title (Allen)? Through her family life, her efforts providing relief to
soldiers on the front lines, and her work with the international and american red cross, she earned the
title of The Angel of the Battlefield (Clara Barton).
December 25, 1821, Clara Barton was brought into this world in North Oxford, Massachusetts. Her
father worked as not only a farmer but also as a state lawmaker. He even served in the American
Revolution (Allen). One of Clara s most famous quotes The patriot blood of my father was warm in
my veins (Lewis) illustrates her dedication to the patriot cause, likely brought upon by her father s
influence. Her mother, Sarah, was responsible for urging Clara to become a teacher due to how well
spoken and well read she was at such a young age (Clara Barton Biography). At the age of eleven,
Clara says that she was given the task of caring for and looking after her brother who had fallen in. In

The Painting Square At La Trinite
The painting Square at La Trinité (Le Square de La Trinité) (1875) by Pierre Auguste Renoir is located
at the RISD museum in Providence, RI. This is an oil painting on canvas, surrounded by an ornate
gold frame. Square at La Trinité is a pastel colored landscape scene with nature, figures and buildings
in the background. The main focus of the painting is the two people in the right hand corner, one a
female and the other a male who are strolling through a lively garden. During the 19th century
impressionist artists wanted to capture life as they saw it happening. Another artist who had a similar
style to Renoir was Monet who painted works such as Beach at Trouville (1870) where he painted his
wife sitting on the beach taking part in middle class leisure. Renoir s work demonstrates the
impressionist technique important to the 19th century, evident by the way he captured middle class
leisure in a modern subject matter.
In Square at La Trinité there are very prominent vertical lines. The two figures in the right corner of
the painting are vertical figures and are what the viewer is initially drawn to when first looking at the
image. Another really distinct vertical line is the tree on the left hand side of the painting. That tree
stands out in particular because of its dark color compared to the right side of the painting. The
buildings in the background are made up of both horizontal and vertical lines. The roof and windows
in particular are examples of horizontal lines. The

The Symbolism Of The Unicorn In Captivity
Sometimes when you look at a piece of art, you cannot quickly and directly understand the meaning
behind it. And there s nothing to panic about because with the help of symbols or iconography, the
message behind the piece or artwork may just be revealed. Iconography, stated by the book, is a
system of symbols that allow artists and designers to refer to complex ideas. Iconography is seen a lot
through cultures and religions, for example, in medieval Christian symbolism, the unicorn symbolized
Jesus. This is seen in The Unicorn in Captivity, and if you look closely into the artwork, you may see
red juice dripping from different spots on the unicorn. This red juice also connects with the symbolism
of the unicorn and Jesus; do you know what it may represent? If you guessed Christ s sacrifice, you

Compared to The Unicorn in Captivity, Yama has smaller and more detailed pieces that symbolize
ideas. We can see that Yama has a crown, with skulls, as well as many sets of jewelry, representing
power and possibly wealth. In addition, he is standing over a man, and as seen in the man s facial
expression, Yama is brutally crushing him. Surrounding Yama, especially near the top, are holy figures
praying, buffalo headed Yamas, fire, and many more skulls. Lastly, Yama s facial expression and his
stance expresses to us he is angry and because his posture is diagonal, it shows he is in movement.
Yama is possibly a warrior or a ruler defending his authority. Looking closer into a piece of art and
seeing the visual symbols can definitely help you understand the content because in reality Yama is the
Indian god of death, as we can see with the multiple skulls placed on him as well as surrounding him.

The End Of Apathy Analysis
Ram Parso Summer Assignment UHD 15 August 2015 The End of Apathy Apathy for change? Is an
ambivalent question that can be negative or positive, and I have noticed an obstacle in my community
that relates to the words care and change. Obstacles, hurdles, and complications tend to sound abrasive
in a manner, but the irony behind the true definition of those words leaves a person gratified with
morals and stories. Since the progression of human connectivity humans have evolved with the fast
pace of life which blocks will for change due to selfishness, laziness, and stupidity. In your
community How commonly do you hear that people don t care? Or How many times have You said I

But the opposite; people have evolved from the Stone Age and has solved daunting conundrums which
proves that we are intelligent and eccentric and we do care about change. Imagine if Thomas Edison

electricity based instruments. The environment we live has developed a habit of being or putting
obstacles in our way, but we can change them like I mentioned. So in conclusion my sole message is
that apathy about change can be redefined, not as one inner disorder, but as a social barrier that
emphasizes disengagement. If we believe that one person trying to make a change is futile and our
neighbors are stupid, lazy, and selfish then there s no chance for change. So just like it s not easy to

How Did World War 1 Contribute To The Balance Of Power Theory
World War I saw the nations involved rallied into two major alliances in order to curb German s
increasing power. It is evident that German amassing too much power poses a threat to the security of
its counterparts in an anarchic system. As a result, other countries were willing to use various means
not only to mitigate the risks but also maintain their independence in the world s political structure.
The balance of power theory focuses on how countries can achieve a balance and international order.
The causes of World War one can be attributed to the balance of power mechanisms used by the
countries involved.

witnessed in Europe was a strategy used by countries to ensure they are not left behind as being equal
to their counterparts. The acquisition of colonies also seeks to progress the economies of European
empires. Finally, nationalism provides a means by which people could achieve self rule to avoid other
nations taking control over them. All the above causes were designed to achieve harmonization of

Trust is defined as the willingness to be vulnerable to a trustee based on positive expectations about
the trustees actions and intentions (Colquitt p. 205). Trust is one of the biggest aspects in the
organizational realm. In order to instill proper work ethics, you must trust that your employer is
instilling the correct values, and vice versa, you must trust that your employees will carry out those
work ethics when not being monitored closely, or in other words Integrity, defined as the perception
that the authorities adhere to a set of values and principles that the trustor finds acceptable (Colquitt P.

Stereotypes In The Office
Do you think that someone will be good at a sport because of their race? Michael Scott from the T.V.
show The Office thinks so. The Office is a sitcom which depicts the typical office environment with
Michal Scott being the boss who is very insensitive and says things most people would see as very
rude, but he thinks of as normal. In the office Stanley is the only African American and Oscar is the
only Latino, these two are typically quiet and are insulted by Michael. Other notable individuals in the
office include Kevin who is an out of shape middle aged white man and Dwight who is a very socially
awkward middle aged white man. In season 1 episode 5 titled basketball Michael organizes a
basketball game between the office and warehouse staff. Throughout the shows Michael stereotypes
employees of various races and what sports they should be good at . In the process of picking the
basketball team it was most notably displayed with many statements being made by Michael as to who
would be at various sports based on their ethnicity. He made statements inferring that Stanley would
be a starter because he is black. Another statement that he made was to Oscar Martinez a Latino
saying he wouldn t be good at basketball but if there was a baseball game ... Show more content on

Essay On Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle Cell Disease
A group of disorders that have an impact on hemoglobin is called sickle cell disease.
This disease can be deadly and needs to be discussed. During the lecture about chapter five, the class
learned about the sickle cell disease. This paper will discuss what sickle cell disease is, the different
types, how common it is, who gets it, symptoms, lethal or manageable information, treatments, and
diagnosis.
Sickle cell disease refers to an inherited blood disorder. One amino acid takes the place of the protein
hemoglobin. The body receives oxygen from hemoglobin in red blood cells. A mutated form of
hemoglobin affects the red blood cells. Hemoglobin S can turn red blood cells into a certain crescent
shape.

With new treatments, the potential to live with a sickle cell disease has currently increased. Most of
the deaths from the sickle cell disease are from bacterial infections. The buildup of blood cells that
sickle in the blood vessels of the brain can cause strokes in the victims.
New treatments for sickle cell disease make the potential to live much greater. People with the sickle
cell disease need to check with their doctor a few times a year. Children with a sickle cell disease can
take penicillin every day to prevent infections. People with a sickle cell disease need to undergo
vaccines such as pneumococcus, influenza shots, and meningococcus.
Diagnosis can be done through blood test before or after birth.
In conclusion to this paper on sickle cell disease, the information is summarized. Sicklecell disease is
a blood disorder, there are many different types, it is most common among African genes, people all
over the world can get it, the symptoms usually happen during childhood, it can be lethal but there are
treatments to help, and diagnosis can be done through a blood test. Sicklecell disease is an inherited

5. What is a Network Access Control (NAC) System? Explain its benefits in securing access control to
a network.
a) NAC is a networking solution for wired and Wi Fi connections that identifies potential problems on
a computer before it accesses the network. NAC uses a set of protocols to define and implement a
policy that describes how to secure access to network nodes by devices when they initially attempt to
access the network.
b) A benefit of NAC is the ability to control access to a network access to the LAN without putting the

Amelie
The culture and history of France have been highly influential among filmmakers and have affected
the construction of a variety of films. One such film is, Jean Pierre Jeunet s highly successful film
Amelie (2001). The French believe that the success of a film isn t measured by the money it makes,
but by the number of people who watch it. They believe that everything cultural must be protected
from the domination of the markets, a concept known as L exception Culturelle (The French Cultural
Exception) (Wikipedia, 2011). Amelie, is the picture perfect example of this concept, as it perfectly
exhibits the epitome of French culture; portraying France as The City of Love , full of wonder, where
dreams come true. Amelie is a beautiful film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has been the basis for many French filmmakers, as this is the type of France audience finds most
pleasurable to watch. Jeunet has presented to his viewers a stereotypical view of France. Jeunet chose
to set Amelie in Montmarte because it deisplays stereotypical qualities of a French wonderland, as
well as being aesthetically pleasing. Included in the shots are many stone buildings, clean streets, and
beautiful colours, all of which have been cautiously selected, adding to the director s aspiration of
creating a French wonderland. We worked on everything: moving cars, removing signals, graffiti s...

all incredibly positive, and Jeunet has clearly found inspiration from Paris being the city of love, as
well as memories from his own life. I had in mind a box full of tiny happy events and stories. I wanted
to use them to make audience feel happy. (Jeunet, JP, 2001) The textual features used in the film make
it evident that the construction of the film has been influenced by French culture. A variety of different
techniques have been used by Jeunet to give the film a feeling of fairytale and fantasy, emphasising
innocence. Jeunet has used extremely saturated colours to give the film a fantasy and dreamlike

Wound Product Selection Process
Infection control and wound product selection contribute to the wound healing environment.
It is the hypothesis of this report that infection control and wound product selection that is based on
best practice guidelines, will enhance wound healing in patients.
According to, International Best Practice Guidelines; Wounds International, 2013, With appropriate
and careful management it is possible to delay or avoid most serious complications . When wound
care products are selected appropriately for the patients wound, and used as instructed, they are very
effective. Best practice wound care requires the nurse to be able to follow infection control guidelines

The Atomic Energy Of Canada Limited
Brief History (MICHAEL TABB)
Merriam Webster has defined reliability as: the extent to which an experiment, test, or measuring
procedure yields the same results on repeated trials .[1] As technology advances, so does the use of
computing and software in health services. With the onset of cancer, Atomic Energy of Canada
Limited (AECL) created a medical linear accelerator known as the Therac 25. The machines
responsibility is to accelerate and increase the energy of electrically charge atomic particles by the
introduction of an electric field focused by magnets. These accelerators are used to treat cancer
patients with radiation to remove malignant cancerous cells and tissue. The use of the machines
caused radiation overdoses between 1985 and 1987 causing loss of life and limb for patients in six
accidents.[2]
These six accidents began 3 June 1985 with a sixty one year old woman receiving her twelfth
treatment at Kennestone Regional Oncology Center in Marietta, Georgia. She had her breast removed
and lost the use of a shoulder and arm after feeling a tremendous rush of heat and red hot sensation ,
while receiving follow up treatment for a malignant tumor removed from her breast in that facility
(Porrelo, A.). The second accident occurred at the Ontario Cancer Foundation clinic in Canada on 26
July 1985 where a forty year old patient was in receipt of her twenty fourth Therac 25 treatment.

The Death Of Two ( The Great Gatsby )
The death of two (The Great Gatsby)
The auburn hued leaves crunched with every miserable footstep. They scattered the ground in a
haphazard manner, not dissimilar to the state of the thoughts swirling through the mind of the lone
man, disconsolate and determined to regain a semblance of balance in his life. He strode purposefully
towards his vengeful destination. With his worn out greased overalls and his intrinsic grey flat cap, he
passed through the elaborate, elite fields of West Egg, also known as the land of new money ,
embarking towards this mansion.
Located at the very end of West Egg, bordering the sound, rested the extravagant white mansion.
Stealthily, he moved towards his target, Jay Gatsby. For all George Wilson was concerned, he had
been contemplating whether or not this man was responsible for the tragic death of his beloved wife,
Myrtle. He walked further: to within the rear of the luxurious pearl white mansion. An old piano, sat

How Technology Has Affected Healthcare
Our world runs on technology. The introduction of the home personal computer and the internet
launched our society to a modernized, technology depended community. Vast array of information are
available to us every minute of every day. If any of us have a question that we needed the answer to,
all we have to do is use Bing or Google or some other search engine and search for the answer. It is so
easy now to obtain information. Furthermore, technology has greatly affected healthcare. Due to the
technological advances in medicine, our society has the longest life span in history. Illnesses such as
infections, wounds and other ailments that used to be fatal can now be cured by simply ingesting
medicine. An aspect of medicine that is gradually becoming the focus of technological advancement is
surgery. Surgeries can now be performed with the help of robots. The utilization of these robotic
surgical systems is one of the main controversial issues many physicians debate about. The
uncertainty as to what extent technology should influence medicine makes this issue interesting.
Robotic surgery was first imagined from the idea that surgeons can operate on a patient without being
in the same room, which was explored by NASA and the military in the 1970s and 1980s. The first
ever surgery system that uses robotic technology is the da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci
Surgical System was approved by the FDA in 2000. This system includes a camera arm and

Why We Should Reclaim The Appalachian Mountain
As a young Kentuckian, I recognize the importance of coal to the world s energy supply and its
increasing use worldwide. Coal does indeed power the nation, but at what cost? At the cost of
Appalachian qualities of life, at the cost of their health, the environment, and the economy. No one
should suffer like the Appalachian region has due to the extensive devastation resulting from
mountaintop removal. We, as a country, should stand up and defend Appalachia. We should come up
with clean alternative energy sources or methods of obtaining coal rather than explosively destroying
the entire Appalachian region one mountaintop at a time. We call upon anyone who is eager to learn
more about coal and mountaintop removal to get educated and involve yourself in the fight to reclaim
the Appalachian mountains for the environment and the well being of our nation.
After weeks of in depth research, I feel that I am well educated on the issue of mountaintop removal. I
have seen many of the negative side effects of the blasting, harvesting, mining, and reclamation of the
mountains and its impact on the environment. The natives of Appalachia, as well as in many nearby
regions, are exposed to harmful toxins in the air, water and even the land. The mining business is
dangerous and risky. It puts the miners in peril on the job and brings worry to the families waiting for
them back home. I realize the danger and costs of mountaintop removal and will begin with a simple
question: is coal worth it?

A Summary Of A Reflection On The Movie Cinda Kozolithe
A Reflection Paper on the movie crocodile Dundee
Crocodile Dundee is a movie about the story of an American reporter Sue Charlton (Linda Kozlowski)
and Michael J, or Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan). In this movie, Linda Kozlowski acts as Sue
Charlton and Paul Hogan Acts as Michael Crocodile Dundee. This movie is written by Paul Hogan,
John Cornell, and ken Shadie. It is directed by Peter Faiman. An American reporter, Sue traveled to
the northern territory to a town called walkabout creek. It is a small village where people live together

the bushes freely with confidence and pride. Crocodile Dundee is a character who rides horses and
subdue buffalos. Crocodile Dundee is representative of the Australian Bush culture. After watching
this movie, I have understood how the main character Crocodile Dundee is influenced by his
Masculinity culture and cultural competence.
Crocodile Dundee lives in a culture in which masculinity has a means of power, respect, and pride.
According to our textbook communication: interpersonal communication in a highly masculine
culture, men are valued for their aggressiveness, material success, and strength. I think the main
character crocodile Dundee s aggressiveness toward to the animals and people around him is the direct
result of the culture he lives. For example, his aggressiveness toward the people he met in a small pub,
him killing a snake without any weapon, and saving Sue from crocodile accident while she was in the
water were how he express his aggrieves and strength to survive in a masculinity culture in which
what he did result in appreciation and respect among the people he shares the same culture. Based on
our text, members of masculine cultures are more likely to confront directly and to fight out any
differences competitively think that is the main reason he instead solving problems with conversation
uses force to get what he wants. For example, he didn t take the conversation lightly when a cup driver
with the ladies talked to him rather he punched him in the face. I think

The Challenges And Failure Of The Board Of Lehman Brothers
Essential for a firm s survival and its ongoing success is effective corporate governance. Indeed, when
executed effectively, corporate governance helps to not only prevent corporate scandals, fraud and
civil and criminal liability but also enhance a company s image in the public eye (Sun, 2010). This, in
turn, positions a firm as a self policing institution, accountable and worthy of shareholder and
debtholder capital. Responsible for charting the strategic direction, approving policy and ensuring that
the mission statement of a firm is carried out, is the Board of Directors. (Coastal Community , 2013)
notes that directors, also, have a responsibility to maintain the balance between economic and social
goals and between individual and collective goals, reflected through the efficient and effective use of
limited resources. The Board of Lehman Brothers is an example of a board that failed to execute

Competitive Strategy Sonic should endeavor to use Porter s generic competitive strategy of
differentiation as its overall strategy. Versatility and ease of use are what Sonic will provide to the
consumer. Our secondary strategy should be focus, we will key in on a few different market segments
which we feel are high profile markets and deserving of attention. Sonic s pricing could be our
greatest asset. According to Levitt, in his article, Marketing Myopia, Henry Ford had a strategy which
included mass production, but that first and foremost one must never place the profit lure from this
production above thinking about your customer. Henry Ford worked from the idea that he could
produce his invention, the car for $500, and therefore because it was priced reasonably could expect to
sell millions of cars. His focus was not on mass production, but what the consumer could afford to pay
for his product, and then he worked to produce it for that amount. (Levitt, 2004, p. 144). This probably
would be a wise decision for Sonic, especially during this unstable economy we are facing.

Once an inmate is released from prison and given parole or probation it is difficult for them to live a

How to motivate offenders to change
(Clarissa Trejo)
Introduction
To motivate offenders to change sounds difficult, but is not impossible for those who accept to receive
help such as rehab, prevention programs that are effective for those whom have a drug or alcohol
problem and even one to one cognitive behavioral therapy that reduces recidivism in both youngsters
and adults.
History
The word, parole, derives from the French parole meaning word of honor and references prisoners of
war promising not to take up arms in current conflict if released. Probation has antecedents that reach
back to biblical times, its American history dates to the nineteenth century. The concept of probation
from the Latin probation, meaning period of proving. Evolved out of the practice of judicial reprieve,
used in English courts to serve as a temporary suspension of sentence to allow a defendant to appeal to
the crown for a pardon.
Issues of Probation and Parole
The 21st century is several years away and planning is needed to effectively manage excessive
caseloads to protect the public. This paper reviews a fresh means of supervision methodology and the
joining of the prevailing technology and the imminent technology of the 21st century. For quite some
time there has been a public, political

The Problem With Homeless Today
Week 7 Assignment:
The Problem with Homeless in America
Equilla Simmons
Boston University
One of the basic human needs is shelter. While many people take having a roof over their head for
granted, there is a plethora of people that have no place to call home. However, America has become a
place where Social Darwinism is vastly accepted, leaving several people that are homeless with
limited resources. In January 2013, 610,042 people were homeless on a given night. Most (65 percent)
were living in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs and 35 percent were living in
unsheltered locations (Cortes, Morris, Henry, 2013, p.1). While this is a decrease from last year in

Homelessness has no age limit. Nearly one quarter (23 percent or 138,149) of all homeless people
were children, under the age of 18. Ten percent (or 61,541) were between the ages of 18 and 24, and
67 percent (or 410,352) were 25 years or older (Cortes et al., 2013 p.6).
This shows how the problem affects every cohort and it s sad that children have the highest rate of
homelessness. Many people tend to blame the homeless person for making the wrong decisions in
their youth. However, the youth have the highest rate of homelessness and they haven t even had the
chance to make some of those decisions. 20% of homeless youth are LGBT, mostly due to severe
family conflict
They are the most vulnerable along with older people and being older increased the risk of
experiencing a violent attack (Meinbresse et al., 2014). In addition, the veterans that risk their life for
the American system make up a certain percentage of homeless people. According to The Department
of Housing and Urban Development, there were 57,849 homeless veterans on a single night in January
2013. Sixty percent were located in shelters or transitional housing programs, and 40 percent were in
unsheltered locations. Just under 8 percent (4,456) were female (Cortes et al., 2013). Many of them

which a young Honduran boy places his life at risk in order to reach the United States and be with his
mother. The main characters are Enrique, his grandmother, his girlfriend Maria Isabel, his sister Belky
and the mother. Enrique s mother, Lourdes, had to make the painful decision a mother could make, she
had to leave her son because of the poverty in Honduras. Her plan was that once she was in America,
she would send money for both her children, Enrique and his sister. Her son becomes resentful and

In the Foreword, she brings the reader to a day in 1997, when her cleaning woman Carmen reveals
that she has four children in Guatemala, whom she has not seen in twelve years. Nazario is stunned.
She cannot understand how a mother could so walk away from her young children, but Carmen then
presents a reality the author will soon investigate and know to be ordinary. Since the 1960s, untold
numbers of Central American mothers, often abandoned by their husbands, come to America to take
any work available (Nazario xiii). In the late 20th century, then, and as American women were
entering the workforce more and more, supply met demand and the illegal immigrant mothers found
work as house cleaners and nannies. As Carmen expresses, nonetheless, the distance is almost
unbearable and these mothers intensely feel the distance from their children. As the novel also
reinforces, the children similarly experience the pain of separation, which goes to another form of
immigration ; basically, and often at very young ages, they risk their lives to join their mothers. Most
importantly, then, and as Nazario is further moved by the true tale of Carmen s son Minor, Enrique s
Journey actually documents an ongoing situation based on inequality and injustice. The novel is then
completely based on the realities researched by the

  • 2. How Much Influence Has A Little Country Have On The Great... Just how much influence could a little country have on the great United States of America? One may be surprised. With a size slightly less than twice the size of New Jersey, Switzerland has a lot to offer for its size (The World Factbook). The country is located in central Europe, north of Italy and east of France, and shares their temperate climate. This landlocked terrain mostly consists of mountains, with a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes (The World Factbook). Despite their relatively small size and their centralized location, they have a large influence on the rest of the world. Specifically to the United States, the Swiss have brought their culture, merchandise, and services to share with the people of America. Switzerland has a relatively short history. In 1291 A.D., the Swiss Confederation was founded as a defense alliance between three cantons of modern day Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden (Schelbert). Wars of conquest and arranged alliances grew the confederation (Schelbert). In 1499, the Confederation gained its independence from the Holy Roman Empire (The World Factbook). In 1515, the now 13 canton confederation ended their expansion with their defeat in northern Italy at the battle of Marignano (Schelbert). The Swiss Confederation then started conducting the practice of armed neutrality (Schelbert). Despite this neutrality, the Protestant Reformation had the people of the Confederation split into hostile camps and threatened the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will prove Professor Faden s innocence and why his video should be allowed to stay online. Fair use allows anyone to use only small portions of a copyrighted without permission from the author or distributor of said work. Professor faden s Video falls under two of the already stated guidelines; Education and Parody. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a sub form of parody known as mash up . A mash up is taking several short clips and audio from several movies, shows, etc, and compiling them together to convey a message or to just give humor to the people who are going to view the mash up. Since fair use allows anyone to use small portions of the work, mashups fall perfectly under fair use since they are just short sequences strung together in one completed work. The video also offers some critical commentary on some commentary on certain copyright laws and the amount of power given to the owners in a slightly comical way, characters being shocked at there being limitations to the iron grip of Copyright owners , and being angry at the strictness of fair use and how fair use favors the distributor over the ... What Dedication means to the military member is something different all together and something not many get to experience. No matter what branch of service or what country you serve, the dedication is the same for all. Though the history of each branch of the armed forces is different, the dedication is the same. • 5. Judy Bacas Murals Essay An Inspiration Across Cultures Public art conquers so much more than the simple task of making the street a little easier to look at. It involves those who created it, those who supplied the means to create it, and those whose lives it continues to impact. Wall paintings in particular take an important role in working for a greater good. Judith F. Baca, a Hispanic American woman and artist activist has contributed an unaccountable amount to the mural movement in Los Angeles. She has accomplished this by giving individuals the chance to create art and develop a sense of pride, she has taught younger generations a respect for their ethnic identity, and from the many walks of life that continue to view her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simple fact that Baca is a woman is extremely important when it comes to evaluating her impact on others. Being a woman and reaching out for social change the way that Judy Baca does takes much dedication and passion. Bell hooks writes about the commodification of women in the art world: ...an undiscerning marketplace seeks to confine, limit, and even destroy our artistic freedom and practice. (Hooks 1981, 17). While Baca comes from the historically challenged feminine perspective, she can reach the youth that she works with because of their disadvantaged perspective as well. They are more apt to listen and learn from her because she has already overcome the challenge of succeeding in as a Hispanic American woman in a patriarchal society. In the hands of Margaret Atwood, she used her knowledge and different interpretation of words in her dystopian novel The Handmaid s Tale in a very indirect and devious way making her novel a treasure hunt in search of these key words for the understanding of the novel. The novel takes place in Gilead, a very dark future of the United States, governed by a theocratic government which oppresses women by making them handmaids in the name of religion to cure the infertility of the population. The double entendre diction which exists throughout the whole novel adds subliminal hints on the charactarisation of the characters, such as Offred, and to the story itself, such as the religious political system that governs Gilead, which is a double entendre in itself. These different plays on diction proves the oppression of our main character and proves how powerful language can be. The main character of this novel, Offred, proves to be very analytical in her thoughts in various instances in the novel but the reader can t understand the complete meaning of this. For example, when Offred was talking about her daily routine after getting up from bed and sitting in the chair and think about the word char. It can also mean the leader of a meeting. It can also mean a mode of execution. It is the first syllable in chanty. It is the French world for flesh. None of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under President Nixon the first executive branch office to coordinate drug policy was formed and the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act was put into place. Two years following that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was formed. • 12. Broken Window Theory Research Paper Broken Windows policing refers to a form of policing that is based upon the broken windows theory, which serves as a metaphor for disorder within neighborhoods. According to this theory, a direct relationship exists between levels of disorder/incivility within a community and subsequent occurences of serious crime; therefore, the greater the disorder, the greater chance of serious crime offenses occuring, and vice versa. Broken windows policing works in cohesion with this theory to combat disorder within a neighborhood/community before it manifests into serious crime (ie: fix the broken window before the entire house becomes neglected or ruined). To do this, foot patrol was enforced, which, in additon to battling disorder, attempted to improve community engagement, partnership, and trust. • 16. The Painting Square At La Trinite The painting Square at La Trinité (Le Square de La Trinité) (1875) by Pierre Auguste Renoir is located at the RISD museum in Providence, RI. This is an oil painting on canvas, surrounded by an ornate gold frame. Square at La Trinité is a pastel colored landscape scene with nature, figures and buildings in the background. The main focus of the painting is the two people in the right hand corner, one a female and the other a male who are strolling through a lively garden. During the 19th century impressionist artists wanted to capture life as they saw it happening. Another artist who had a similar style to Renoir was Monet who painted works such as Beach at Trouville (1870) where he painted his wife sitting on the beach taking part in middle class leisure. Renoir s work demonstrates the impressionist technique important to the 19th century, evident by the way he captured middle class leisure in a modern subject matter. In Square at La Trinité there are very prominent vertical lines. The two figures in the right corner of the painting are vertical figures and are what the viewer is initially drawn to when first looking at the image. Another really distinct vertical line is the tree on the left hand side of the painting. That tree stands out in particular because of its dark color compared to the right side of the painting. The buildings in the background are made up of both horizontal and vertical lines. The roof and windows in particular are examples of horizontal lines. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Obstacles, hurdles, and complications tend to sound abrasive in a manner, but the irony behind the true definition of those words leaves a person gratified with morals and stories. Since the progression of human connectivity humans have evolved with the fast pace of life which blocks will for change due to selfishness, laziness, and stupidity. Comparison Of Sperm Whales And The Killer Whale In the article, Sperm Whales and Killer Whales with the Largest Brain of All Toothed Whales Show Extreme Differences in Cerebellum the author Sam H. Ridgway studies the cerebellums of the most widest distributed whales in the world. The killer whale and the sperm whale both have huge brains, but this study suggests why the killer whales have a significantly larger cerebellum than that of the sperm whale. After collecting, measuring, and preserving the species, the skull was ready to be chipped away and the brain ready to be taken from the massive cranium. Once extracted, the brain was measured to determine the cerebellar volume: (length of cerebellum base × width of the base × height × 1/3). Results showed that the cerebellum of the sperm ... The Atomic Energy Of Canada Limited Brief History (MICHAEL TABB) Merriam Webster has defined reliability as: the extent to which an experiment, test, or measuring procedure yields the same results on repeated trials .[1] As technology advances, so does the use of computing and software in health services. With the onset of cancer, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) created a medical linear accelerator known as the Therac 25. The machines responsibility is to accelerate and increase the energy of electrically charge atomic particles by the introduction of an electric field focused by magnets. These accelerators are used to treat cancer patients with radiation to remove malignant cancerous cells and tissue. The use of the machines caused radiation overdoses between 1985 and 1987 causing loss of life and limb for patients in six accidents.[2] These six accidents began 3 June 1985 with a sixty one year old woman receiving her twelfth treatment at Kennestone Regional Oncology Center in Marietta, Georgia. She had her breast removed and lost the use of a shoulder and arm after feeling a tremendous rush of heat and red hot sensation , while receiving follow up treatment for a malignant tumor removed from her breast in that facility (Porrelo, A.). They scattered the ground in a haphazard manner, not dissimilar to the state of the thoughts swirling through the mind of the lone man, disconsolate and determined to regain a semblance of balance in his life. He strode purposefully towards his vengeful destination. With his worn out greased overalls and his intrinsic grey flat cap, he passed through the elaborate, elite fields of West Egg, also known as the land of new money , embarking towards this mansion. Located at the very end of West Egg, bordering the sound, rested the extravagant white mansion. Stealthily, he moved towards his target, Jay Gatsby. For all George Wilson was concerned, he had been contemplating whether or not this man was responsible for the tragic death of his beloved wife, Myrtle. He walked further: to within the rear of the luxurious pearl white mansion. An old piano, sat as to enamel Gatsby s supposedly elite position. Gatsby s abode was embellished with unique russet velvety walls and glazed coffee wooden floorboards. After Wilson s entrance, via an unlocked rear door, he imagined himself taking a drink with his girl in such a fine room, but that possibility did not exist. This man named Gatsby had ruined it all for him. George was a simple kind of guy. He always dreamed of living in West Egg with his wife; he wanted the best for Myrtle. The introduction of the home personal computer and the internet launched our society to a modernized, technology depended community. Vast array of information are available to us every minute of every day. If any of us have a question that we needed the answer to, all we have to do is use Bing or Google or some other search engine and search for the answer. It is so easy now to obtain information. Furthermore, technology has greatly affected healthcare. Due to the technological advances in medicine, our society has the longest life span in history. Illnesses such as infections, wounds and other ailments that used to be fatal can now be cured by simply ingesting medicine. An aspect of medicine that is gradually becoming the focus of technological advancement is surgery. Surgeries can now be performed with the help of robots. The utilization of these robotic surgical systems is one of the main controversial issues many physicians debate about. The uncertainty as to what extent technology should influence medicine makes this issue interesting. Robotic surgery was first imagined from the idea that surgeons can operate on a patient without being in the same room, which was explored by NASA and the military in the 1970s and 1980s. The first ever surgery system that uses robotic technology is the da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci Surgical System was approved by the FDA in 2000. Coal does indeed power the nation, but at what cost? At the cost of Appalachian qualities of life, at the cost of their health, the environment, and the economy. No one should suffer like the Appalachian region has due to the extensive devastation resulting from mountaintop removal. We, as a country, should stand up and defend Appalachia. We should come up with clean alternative energy sources or methods of obtaining coal rather than explosively destroying the entire Appalachian region one mountaintop at a time. We call upon anyone who is eager to learn more about coal and mountaintop removal to get educated and involve yourself in the fight to reclaim the Appalachian mountains for the environment and the well being of our nation. After weeks of in depth research, I feel that I am well educated on the issue of mountaintop removal. I have seen many of the negative side effects of the blasting, harvesting, mining, and reclamation of the mountains and its impact on the environment. The natives of Appalachia, as well as in many nearby regions, are exposed to harmful toxins in the air, water and even the land. The mining business is dangerous and risky. It puts the miners in peril on the job and brings worry to the families waiting for them back home. Crocodile Dundee is a character who rides horses and subdue buffalos. Crocodile Dundee is representative of the Australian Bush culture. After watching this movie, I have understood how the main character Crocodile Dundee is influenced by his Masculinity culture and cultural competence. Crocodile Dundee lives in a culture in which masculinity has a means of power, respect, and pride. According to our textbook communication: interpersonal communication in a highly masculine culture, men are valued for their aggressiveness, material success, and strength. I think the main character crocodile Dundee s aggressiveness toward to the animals and people around him is the direct result of the culture he lives. For example, his aggressiveness toward the people he met in a small pub, him killing a snake without any weapon, and saving Sue from crocodile accident while she was in the water were how he express his aggrieves and strength to survive in a masculinity culture in which what he did result in appreciation and respect among the people he shares the same culture. Based on our text, members of masculine cultures are more likely to confront directly and to fight out any differences competitively think that is the main reason he instead solving problems with conversation uses force to get what he wants. For example, he didn t take the conversation lightly when a cup driver with the ladies talked to him rather he punched him in the face. I think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main characters are Enrique, his grandmother, his girlfriend Maria Isabel, his sister Belky and the mother. Enrique s mother, Lourdes, had to make the painful decision a mother could make, she had to leave her son because of the poverty in Honduras. Her plan was that once she was in America, she would send money for both her children, Enrique and his sister. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Foreword, she brings the reader to a day in 1997, when her cleaning woman Carmen reveals that she has four children in Guatemala, whom she has not seen in twelve years. Nazario is stunned. She cannot understand how a mother could so walk away from her young children, but Carmen then presents a reality the author will soon investigate and know to be ordinary. Since the 1960s, untold numbers of Central American mothers, often abandoned by their husbands, come to America to take any work available (Nazario xiii). In the late 20th century, then, and as American women were entering the workforce more and more, supply met demand and the illegal immigrant mothers found work as house cleaners and nannies. As Carmen expresses, nonetheless, the distance is almost unbearable and these mothers intensely feel the distance from their children. As the novel also reinforces, the children similarly experience the pain of separation, which goes to another form of immigration ; basically, and often at very young ages, they risk their lives to join their mothers. Most importantly, then, and as Nazario is further moved by the true tale of Carmen s son Minor, Enrique s Journey actually documents an ongoing situation based on inequality and injustice.
