encapsulating to the very end. I really enjoyed the suspense, as well as the turn of direction that the
play took in the end as the plot thickened. In this essay, I will describe why I personally believe that
this play was not just a tragic event and the many reasons why I believe that Oedipus can be viewed as
a tragic hero by his actions throughout the play. I believe that some of my strengths in this essay will

Benin maintains a strong link to its past and traditions. It is suspicious of changes that disrupt the
historical heritage and culture of the society. As for the USA, the mentality is different. There is
limited regard tradition as the society constantly seeks to innovate and improve the way of life. These
differences in long term orientation is in part based on the tolerance level of uncertainty in each
society. Since Benin has a low level of tolerance, it makes it difficult for it to let go of its traditions
and embrace new ones, which are filled with uncertainty and doubt. Finally, in terms of indulgence,
Beninese like to take long breaks and relax as much as they can. For example, elementary, middle, and
high school students go to school from 8am to 12 noon, take a break and come back at 3pm and stay
until 5pm or 7pm depending on the classification. These three hours break, that is, 12 noon to 3pm is
observed in most offices and businesses. However, in the USA, emphasis is placed on hard work.
People use their time wisely because each hour equals to a certain dollar amount. It is frequent to hear
people say things like, I just wasted two hours of time. I could have made $18 if I was working. In
summary, the Benin culture and the USA culture is different in various ways. This is what makes each
culture unique and memorable. I think there are things that both cultures could learn from each other.
For example, the Benin culture could learn to embrace technology and let go of some of its traditions,
especially those that are outdated. The USA culture could become less individualistic and more group
oriented. It will foster more interpersonal relationships and community

Glacial ice is created through the annual deposition of snow that piles up in continuous sequences due
to vast plateaus (Bethan, 2014). There are 2 main ice sheets present on Earth today. The first one is
located in Greenland and dates up to 125,000 years ago while the other is the Antarctic ice sheet that

Hernan Cortes s first encounter narrative, besides justifying his illegal trip to Mexico, displays the
cultural and spiritual roles colonization played when he conquered the Aztecs. Cortes displays a very
eurocentric outlook, for they had left their native land so long ago and as I had only recently arrived
from there, I would better know the things they should believe (Cortes 58), the native land (Cortes 58)
Cartes refers to is Europe. With this idea that Europe being the nucleus of the world signifies that
Cortes has a cultural and religious duty to return these long lost Europeans back to the fold. Cortes
having painted his view of the world creates a sense of belonging for him and all of Spain, in that
since all life orginates in Europe all life and prosperity in the world is simply waiting to be plundered.
He goes about this plundering by using Christianity as a moral justification for the colonization of the

should believe (Cortes 58) . This narrative of cultural and spiritual superiority is echoed in John
Heckewelder s retelling of the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) colonization myth wherein a group of
Dutch missionaries visit the new world and are revered as God s. Before they depart they distribute
gifts among the natives of beads, axes, hoes, and stockings only to return on their second voyage to
see the natives wearing them as ornaments (Heckewelder 70) wherein the whites laughed . Now
Heckewelder s purpose in relaying this oral tradition is very similar to Cortes s it s to display the
cultural and spiritual superiority of the Christian in helping the natives for they are too stupid to help
themselves. Where they differ is that in the Lenni Lenape (Heckewelder 68) tradition this colonization
myth ,for me, serves as a warning to the tribe. For while Heckewelder s original intention was most

James Earl Ray purported that he had an accomplice in King s assassination named Raoul. Ray
received a transfer of money to his account from an unknown source. This source could have been
Raoul, after Ray got the money he bought a rifle and used it to shoot King.
