Thinking As A Nurse
Being a nurse is a profession. With each profession, there is a certain amount of knowledge that needs
to be applied to be able to carry out the necessary tasks. In the nursing field, as students we are
required to learn the human anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to apply it to practice. Prior
to reading Thinking as a Nurse, I had already developed a notion of what it meant to think like a
nurse. Thinking like a nurse in my own terms, means to know how the body functions, general
concepts, and lab values to ensure the safety of my patients. Thinking as a nurse involves patience,
planning ahead for negative outcomes, and being able to adapt well to changes. I feel as though in the
nursing field, there are constantly changes in a patients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book it discusses that being a nurse does not only require a skill set, but to analyze situations. I
believe it is important to always analyze situations, but having skills that you are able to perform is
crucial in nursing. Without knowing how to perform certain tasks precisely, you are placing your
patient at risk for harm. For example, skills such sterile dressing, changing wounds, and inserting a
catheter are all very important. Without the knowledge and ability to do those skills effectively, it puts
the patients at harm. While I do understand what the author is trying to say, I still believe technical
skills are not a distraction. Putting information together is also very important, but I believe making
sure your skills are performable is very critical. Also, I disagree that memorization is not needed in
nursing. The nursing field requires memorization and also applying the information. But, if you can t
remember a pathophysiology, how are you able to apply it to a patient? You must first memorize how
the body functions, and then how it can have abnormalities. This is advantage to my patients, because
it gives me a baseline. Once I understood what body function is not functioning correctly, I am then
able to review the labs necessary. I do agree with the concept that the nurse has to think like a nurse.
This is important because if you are oblivious to patient safety then you are increasing the chance of
harm happening to patients. It is also important to be thoughtful of our position, in the relationship of
patient and nurse. We are obligated by law to carry out our responsibilities effectively. Being mindful
reduces the likelihood of medication errors, and also reduces the chance of infection. Additionally, I
do agree that nursing requires teamwork. It is important to have teamwork, because without it you
may not know pertinent

Technology And Science By Law Enforcement
The National Institute of Justice defines forensic science as, the application of science, such as
physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and engineering to matters of law, (2014). The
emphasis here is the use of technology and science by law enforcement officers and agencies and is
accepted and recognized by the criminal justice system. It is seen as scientific technology or
Criminalistics, (Dempsey Forst, 2013). While technology plays a role in this, it is most recognized by
the use of science by law enforcement and allowing scientific information to be admissible in the
court of law. For this reason, forensic science is seen as a method to resolve legal matters or a
scientific analysis for the purpose of judicial resolution, (Collins, 2007, p. 2). Weather this is using
chemistry, such as a drug testing kit, to determine if a substance is an illegal drug, forensic science has
become fundamental to policing. Science and technology can be used and applied in many ways. This
can be observed through the various branches of forensic science. These include: forensic
biology/DNA, controlled substances, forensic toxicology, forensic anthropology, forensic pathology
and medicolegal death investigation, impression and pattern evidence, and trace evidence, (NIJ, 2014).
In these ways, law enforcement agencies are able to use science to investigate crimes and practice law
enforcement. Understanding the various ways that forensic science is applied in policing, one can

A Little Bit Of The Vietnamese Culture
America has been nicknamed the melting pot. Many cultures have come together within the United
States making it possible for American citizens to be able to participate in other cultures without
leaving the United States. As a result of the diversity found in America, I have been able to experience
a little bit of the Vietnamese culture through my friend, Kim. Kim has been a great source of insight
regarding the leadership utilized within the Vietnamese culture.
Kim s family is from Vietnam and moved here in the early 1980 s. Kim and her older siblings were
born in Vietnam. Her younger siblings were born in America. Her family has maintained their
Vietnamese cultural roots and have adopted very little of the American culture. Kim graduated from
high school and college in Minnesota. She works in a leadership position for the state of Minnesota
and frequently travels to Vietnam.
Kim s approach to organizational life is very structured. In her personal and work life she starts her
day out by organizing her list of tasks that she would like to have completed or addressed by the end
of the day. She provides an educated guess as to how long these tasks should take, however, she stays
flexible if one task seems to take a little longer than expected. This is similar to how she organizes the
tasks she would like her team members to be working on. When assigning tasks she does provide a
ball park estimate as to how long the task should take. However with her team she remains flexible

Descriptive Essay About Women In Entertainment
Women in Entertainment Essay
I m Paulina Villalobos, I m Hispanic and I love new experiences. Both my parents were born in
Mexico and immigrated here when they were young adults. I have an older sister and a younger
brother, leaving me to be the middle child. I like reading, going out with friends, and spending time at
home watching TV or movies. I started reading at a very young age and haven t put a book down
since. I just love how people can create completely different worlds and share it with others, who then
in turn make those worlds their own. Also, I like how you can lose yourself in a book and put yourself

My family doesn t have a lot of experience with college so I don t really know all of my options and
how I can get more. My career goals are to be somewhat involved in the entertainment industry but
behind the scenes. I want to have a job in the entertainment industry as a director of photography or a
screenwriter, something that lets me be behind the camera and lets me share my ideas. I think I can
make more of an impact in the entertainment industry being behind the scenes than I can if I was front
and center of the camera. Being a screenwriter would allow me to create stories that empower women,
humanize men, and give children people they can look up to and change their lives in a positive way.
While being a DP wouldn t give me the same control over those things, it still has an impact on the
audience. The audience could see a man crying and the lighting on him would make him appear
powerful rather than weak, and the same could be done for a woman choosing to leave an unhealthy
situation.
Some conflicts that may get in the way of my commitment to this program would be my film class
shooting schedule, and missing school. I don t have a problem missing Thursdays since I can always
ask my teachers the day before what I would be missing and what I can do to make up the work we ll
do in class the next day, so that won t be a big problem. Although, I m curious to see if my absences
will be excused or not, and if

The Rise And Impact Of Genghis Khan
The Rise and Impact of Genghis Khan Genghis Khan was a relentless Mongolian warrior who
attacked all who spoke against him. He united nomadic tribes, and defeated great empires, all of which
led to the creation one of the world s largest empires spanning the Asian continent from Peking,
China, to the Caspian Sea and had an area of nearly twelve million square miles. To know anything
about Genghis Khan, one must have prior knowledge about the Mongols. The Mongols were ruthless
people who seemed to have no fear or limits in how far they would go. They just kept on and
persevered until they got what they wanted, no matter the price. They would kill, starve, drink blood,
and brave staying out in the freezing temperatures of the north. They did not see food as a necessity
until they were almost completely starved of it, and if they decided that it had finally reached that
point, they would simply just cut open a vein from their horse and drink some of the horse s blood.
After, they would continue riding, but not before patching up the horse s vein. That grotesque snack
would give them the strength to keep moving through the cold. It was a must that they keep going
through these practically unbearable conditions. They could not afford to stop. They had a hunger to
take over as much as they could and moving through the challenges of freezing, starving, and
constantly having to find a new place to stay was vital for that. Consequently, they continued with
their violence in

The Importance Of Being Ernest
The Importance of Being Earnest Character Analysis:
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde is mocking the Victorian society as a whole.
In a society where affirmed progress was key, it was critical for artists like Oscar Wilde and the Ozark
Actors Theatre to have a clear cut expression of the incomplete perception of life in the nineteenth
century England. Wilde s onslaught on the conduct of the current times is an effort to accomplish the
author s revelation that art has the capability to rule life, at a time when civilization measures progress
by factual research. Wilde choice to adopt the English language as the means to alter society whether
than the traditional methods or the scientific method was a bold move to go against ... Show more

Algernon s subordinate outlook of Lane also illustrates his egotistic properties. At the start of the play,
Algernon is talking to Lane about his life, but when Lane starts to say something about his life,
Algernon expresses leisurely I don t know that I am much interested in your family life... (Algernon).
As the stock characters of Algernon and Lane methodically follow the mold of master and servant in
this hilarious story, their habitual behavior evolves into the source of humor and parody. The yes sir,
no sir demeanor of Lane is blended with his profitable endeavors to gain wits with his employer,
building the tone between Algernon and Lane antagonistic. By using Lane s character, Oscar Wilde is
belittling the demeanor of the Victorian noble who consider themselves of extra importance to society.
His intelligent representation of Lane suggests there is no discrepancy in understanding between upper
and middle class individuals. OAT satirizes the upper class idea of progress by making short remarks
about the importance of reading, the effectiveness of modern education, and the emergence of social
cleverness. Jack combats social cleverness by stating that, everybody is clever now a days... (Jack) In
addressing cleverness, Oscar Wilde berates those Victorians who merely hide behind this reality of
development.
OAT s satire of the Victorian emphasis on the human quality of earnestness is the bedrock this entire
work. The title The Importance of Being Earnest is a paradox because Wilde does not have a
congruent view with Victorian society on the magnitude of the importance of being serious. The
paradox of the title embodies the satirical nature of the text. Wilde shows

age discrimination Essay
Age Discrimination
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) protects individuals who are 40 years of
age or older from employment discrimination based on age. The ADEA s protections apply to both
employees and job applicants. Under the ADEA, it is unlawful to discriminate against a person
because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment, including
hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training.
It is also unlawful to retaliate against an individual for opposing employment practices that
discriminate based on age or for filing an age discrimination charge, testifying, or participating in any
way in an investigation, proceeding, or litigation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
· Pre Employment Inquiries
The ADEA does not specifically prohibit an employer from asking an applicant s age or date of birth.
However, because such inquiries may deter older workers from applying for employment or may
otherwise indicate possible intent to discriminate based on age, requests for age information will be
closely scrutinized to make sure that the inquiry was made for a lawful purpose, rather than for a
purpose prohibited by the ADEA.
· Benefits
The Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 (OWBPA) amended the ADEA to specifically
prohibit employers from denying benefits to older employees. Congress recognized that the cost of
providing certain benefits to older workers is greater than the cost of providing those same benefits to
younger workers, and that those greater costs would create a disincentive to hire older workers.
Therefore, in limited circumstances, an employer may be permitted to reduce benefits based on age, as
long as the cost of providing the reduced benefits to older workers is the same as the cost of providing
benefits to younger workers.
· Waivers of ADEA Rights
An employer may ask an employee to waive his/her rights or claims under the ADEA either in the

Literary Analysis Of The Academic Bowl By E. L. Konigsburg
At the beginning of the novel, the author, E.L. Konigsburg, sets up the story at a state Academic Bowl.
The academic bowl takes place on a Saturday in May. The author first introduces us to Mrs. Olinski, a
sixth grade teacher at Epiphany Middle School. We also meet her academic bowl team, The Souls.
Next, Konigsburg introduces us to a sixth grader, Noah Gershom. Noah often uses sarcasm to make
his point. Fact: Noah Gershom loves facts. Currently, there are only two teams left in the Bowl,
Epiphany and Maxwell. The state superintendent asks a question about the meaning of calligraphy,
and Noah buzzes in. Using a pun, Konigsburg relates Noah being the first chosen to answer the
question to him being the first chosen for the team. The question about calligraphy ... Show more

Foreshadowing is used here to tell us that something tragic may happen to the wagon. A little while
later, Noah saw Tillie Nachman make the invitations. He decided to ask Tillie if he could help with the
invitations, she agreed and also gave Noah a brief lesson about the meaning of calligraphy. Therefore,
Noah s Grandpa drove them to a local art store to buy Noah a calligraphy pen and a bottle of ink. Now
that Noah had his own calligraphy pen, Tillie showed him how to write with one. She also showed
him the six tedious steps you have to complete before you start writing. Everything was going fine
with the invitations until the cat knocked down the bottle of ink, and stepped on five of the invitations.
Therefore, Noah went and bought Post it notes to stick on top of the ruined part of the invitations. On
the sticky notes he wrote that whoever had the paw print on their invitation could claim their prize at
the wedding. Noah didn t know what the prizes were yet. Now, wedding day came around and the
cake was finished and ready to be delivered. Here Konigsburg uses foreshadowing to show that
something is going to happen to the cake. Noah and his Grandpa go and buy some ice for the cake so

Everyone seems to be more adapted to what is the greatest invention ever, which is technology.
Technology can be pleasant and fun but yet has an unsafe impact on our world. People use the media
for almost anything. Technology has made a way to enter our minds.
Technology is one of the most beneficial sources that we use today. Without technology we have no
clue what position we would all be in. Although it is a desperate need for most of us, it can also be a
menacing thing to our lives and community. We today use technology more than anything else. This
causes it to take up most of our valuable time that we could be using to accomplish more relevant
activities.

The major priority for UK National Health Service(NHS) is the effective communication with patients

The Merchant Of Venice By William Shakespeare
The play The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare is anti semetic because anti semetic
thoughts and actions are incorporated in a majority of his charcters. The actions of these Christian
charcters go against Shylock, and other Jews presented in the play; as a result, establishing a clear
seperation between the two ethnic groups. The constant hatred and mistreatment towards Shylock only
enhances the division since it develops the idea that Christianity is the superior religion. Although
there are many instances in which Shakespeare creates sympathy for Shylock rather hate, Shakespeare
s portrayal of him is what highlights the anti semitism in the play.
In the play, it appears to be clear that anti Semitic charcaters, such as Antonio and Salanio, exist to
highlight the mistreatment and power Christians have over the Jews. Many instances in which
dominance is expressed towards Jews , is towards Shylock. In the play Shylock states regarding
Antonio,
You call me disbeliever, cutthroat dog,
And spet upon my Jewish gaberdine,
And all for use of that which is mine own.
Well then, it now appears you need my help.
Go to, then. You come to me and you say
Shylock, we would have moneys you say so,
You, that did void your rheum upony beard,
And foot me as you spur a stanger cur

The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence Essay
The Virgin and The Gipsy Written by D.H. Lawrence
This novel is very intriguing and teaches lessons of morality, religion, and of life and death intended
for those with imagination and insight.
The author s style contributes deeply to the intrigue and true meaning to this novel. The author s use
of imagery makes tensions in the story vivid and emphatic. In this story there is a re occurring tension
between religion and desire. The tension between religion and desire is most clearly demonstrated
between the characters of Yvette and the rector. Yvette was brought up in a world of religious
conventions and beliefs, an environment of forgiveness, love, and morality. This world is later realized

He wishes for her to be pure to her desires and emotions. Her wants and need to be seen or recognized
as a woman of flesh and blood, and not a symbol of innocence like the way her father molded Lucille.
Life and death are also described very well with imagery. Cynthia was described as a sign of life,
because she was true to her heart and her desires, while the matter was described as a symbol of death.
The contrast between Cynthia and the matter is very descriptive and reflects the author s use of
imagery very well. The narrator describes Cynthia as a great glow, a flow of life ; #8230; ;like a sun in
the home ; #8230; ; always associating her presence with brightness #8230;.and glamour. ;(pgs.5 8).
These descriptions of Cynthia give a sense of life and warmth. The author created an image for the
reader so wonderfully that when this glamorous creature left; she took all life with her. The rector
turned bitter and resentful because in the rector s eyes Cynthia conveyed purity and freshness, when
she left she took all her pure qualities with her and she left behind a nettle ;, a toad ;, and a gross ;
woman to take her place, the matter. In contrast to Cynthia the matter appears to be destructive, ugly,
nosy, and insignificant, the utmost representation of death. It is when the matter comes to take over the
lives of the Saywell s they all move to the rectory. The rectory was described by the narrator to be
dark, and never fresh. The characters within the rectory

Analysis Of The Play By Lin Manuel Miranda s Hamilton
Patiences is a Virtue
In the play created by Lin Manuel Miranda called Hamilton we learn an astounding amount of
different lessons as diverse as from the importance of family to patience. Miranda uses the characters
in the play to convey the importance of patience is a variety of ways. Hamilton, Washington, and
Angelica all have a conflict with patience in this extraordinary play. What separates each of these
characters conflicts with patience is their individualized struggle with the challenge of patience itself,
and their ability or inability to successfully contain the impulse of losing control which is represented
numerous times in the play.
Alexander Hamilton is portrayed as a young man hungry for the chance to leave his mark on history.
At birth, Hamilton was subject to challenges due to his parents inability to care for him. In the opening
song the introduction of hamilton s struggle as a child is presented to us through narration. The play
begins, How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a scotsman...impoverished, in squalor grow
up to be a hero and a scholar ( Alexander Hamilton 0:08)? Hamilton s correlation with patience is so
prevalent in this quote because, as you see here, without the patience to overcome the challenge that
an orphan faces such as the absence of a true parent figure, there would be no story to tell. Hamilton
overcomes the odds he faced as a young child and as stated, becomes a hero and a scholar. Hamilton
also shows an inability to

The Mission And Culture Of The Castle
a) How can the concepts in this chapter be applied and implemented in an organization? As we have
learned, the castle is an organization that bases its mission and culture on service. The castle s primary
purpose is to serve the town and guarantee protection, and welfare to its people. Moreover, the entire
hierarchical structure of the castle revolves around the ideals of serving those above me, while
promoting the wellbeing of the people. For instance, the servants serve the knights and higher up

What Is The Eulogy For The Pursuit Of Happyness
Statement of Intent: In this piece of writing, the eulogy is about mourning the loss of Christopher
Gardner at the funeral, in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness . His son, Christopher who speaks at
his father s funeral showing the relationship between him and his father and also show the impact that
Christopher has made on his son. This eulogy is set shortly after the end of the movie. Welcome
everyone, we have all gathered here to mourn the loss of a good man, Christopher Gardner, my father.
I am glad that I got the chance to have a father like him. I have always admired him, adored him. He
was my role model and still is, I look up to him. He is the best dad in the world ever. I remember some
time ago when my parents separated due to some financial issues, I m not really sure though, but even
in these times, my mom left me but my father stayed on my side. He never left me, he was there when
I needed both my parents the most. He did everything in his power to keep me happy. I hope I was the
son he wanted me to be, I hope I didn t disappoint him as his son. I will never forget the words he said
to me that day, If you want something, go get it, period . I remember when he didn t have a job and we
were facing difficult times. I didn t realise the situation we were in, but now I ve realised that to get
through the night, we had to sleep in a public bathroom in a subway. Well, at that time it seemed like
an adventure but now, not as much. But we got through those time together, the times that tried to
separate us which did succeed on separating me from my mom. If it wasn t for him, if he didn t take
that one more step, we would still be sleeping in public bathrooms and I wouldn t even be here talking
to you guys. He has carried me throughout this painful but extremely helpful journey which has taught
me many things. The most important out of all is the value of life and money. When I was younger, I
didn t care how much money my parents had, I didn t care how much they spent on me. The only one
thing I did was to order them to but me useless toys, the toys which I barely played with. Now I know
their pain, I know what they went through to get me those toys. You ask me how I know this? Well,

be hidden or be proportioned. The wings exist to introduce a person s alternate self or his other side.
Wings may improve the core personality or contradict it completely. The whole idea of wings merely
points out that personality fluctuate and explain how a person may does not act consistently.
The Arrows From the diagram shown before, we find arrowheads at the end of the line. In the
Enneagram, there are arrows of integration and disintegration. Integration, as defined in a dictionary,
is the idea of blending something into a whole while disintegration duly means the opposite.
Arrows like the wings affect the core personality type only that arrows are triggered with the person s
state of mind or stress level. When stressed, as strained or due to certain circumstances leaves the
mind in tumultuous bearings, the person would exhibit the arrow of disintegration or the type which
points to your core type. Here, a person acquires the sin of the arrow or the negative attributes of that
type. This is why the arrow of disintegration is also referred to as the negative arrow. For the arrow of
integration, a person is calm or relaxed in his present state

Developing Child
Imagine yourself going out for the night at a local restaurant. Some of the first things you may notice
when you walk in is the overwhelming aroma of the food being served, the light chatter from
everyone in the place, or maybe the décor. But there s something else you notice, and it doesn t seem
right. Instead of coloring pages and crayons at each table with children, there s a tablet. Each child is
intensely involved with the tiny, glowing screens that show characters running around at the
commands of the child s every wish. Each one looks like a zombie, completely brainwashed and only
interested in what their screens are playing rather than their parents attempts to make conversation.

Instead of using a videogame system or tablet to keep them entertained, they were exercising not only
their bodies, but also their imaginations. Cris Rowan, author for The Huffington Post, stated in her
article The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child that A 2010 Kaiser Foundation study
showed that elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology,
75 percent of these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50 percent of North American homes
have the TV on all day. Today s generation of kids are glued to these devices and heavily rely on them
to keep them entertained. Unfortunately, parents have not helped this issue become any better: instead,
they are quick to hand their toddler a phone or tablet in order to keep them occupied and out of their
ways. It s no surprise either that children are this way considering the recent boom in technological
developments and further societal integrations. But is the introduction of technology of any kind at a
young age as beneficial as it is put out to be? Today s generation of kids, referred to as glow kids , is
suffering from the overuse of technology in their daily lives. Children s emotional, social, and
physical developments are being majorly hindered due to the increased integration of technology
within their daily lives that is distributed by parents and

Connie s Sexuality In Joyce Carol Oates Smooth Talk
Smooth Talk is a drama movie based on the short story, Where are you going, where have you been
written by Joyce Carol Oates in 1966. The story was inspired in some way by the true history of
Tucson murders that was committed by Charles Schmid. Connie represented a young girl that is 15
years old at that period and it is eager to explore her sexuality. In the other hand, she feels that she is
not understood by her family. Therefore, she rebels against her family adopting a risky behavior that
concluded with her rape. Connie behavior is at some point responsible for her misfortune. As well her
family environment contributes to her misconduct. Not less important is the fact of her affair with an
older man, who rape and murder her.(Camby, 1) Oates make an extraordinary work portraying an
image of the girls that cannot wait to be a woman. While Connie is running as fast as she can,
immersing herself in the adult life of young woman who is awakening her sexuality, she seduces
herself into the wrong path. As a result, she unconsciously throwing away her innocence. Connie was

Jane For Christmas
Ideas for Useful and Practical Christmas Presents
Again the season on Christmas draws ever closer. Now the sudden question of Oh my GOSH, what do
i buy Jane for christmas? begins to hail in our minds. So now where do we begin? of course the
presents range between make up, to the normal tie that we give our father in law.
I will begin with what we could give young girls from about 10 30, or even a little older.
If you know that the girl has been banned from using make up, than it s probably not the best gift to
give, even though it may seem like the most obvious gift. Oftern a make up set may also stay fogottern
in their wardrobe, especially if they have loads already. A good gift for them could be a pair of hair
straighteners, or a curling tong. These could be great for when they get a little older, and start feeling
the pressure with boys too, also for a couple of little presents to add to this if you want to, or for other
familiy members presents, setting gel and some other hair products, ... Show more content on

You could get them some cheap ones from Primark, or you could go a little up market and get them
some stuff from Gap or River Island. As a teenager myself i know just how much any clothes i can get
my hands on, and shoes especially are loved to the end. Shoes can also be great, Uggs are good too,
even if you just get some fakes.
If these two things don t sound to good, there is of course chick flicks, these can be in book or movie
form. Everyone in my grade at school LOVES gossip girl, it s great to watch, so if you get them the
DVDs they are sure to love you forever. The Louise Rennisons books, they can provide hours of
laughing their head off. Some great movie ideas are Agnus Thongs and Perfect Snogging , Love
Actually , Not Another Teen Movie and of course High School Musical (only joking).

Persuasive Essay On Mt. Everest
The issue of Mt.Everest and whether it should be open to the public or not is an issue that has recently
risen as many mountaineers do not like the idea of it as it is an exhilarating thing to do that gives them
a sense of achievement and although there are many risks and challenges people enjoy the activity and
believe that it should stay open to the public. Mountaineering as of recent years has gotten much safer
as they now use steroids and bottled oxygen because of the high altitude. It is becoming safer may not
necessarily be a good thing as it is also very expensive, as in the second source they state that Each

Advantages Of Freemium
1 INTRODUCTION
Freemium business model is the new hit business model of the moment as it is revolutionizing today s
industries. It is helping making the world a better in a way that it allows people to access tools and
services that they would never be able to afford before.
The world has gone digital and people are always looking for the most recent free product to test.
Thus to catch the consumers attention, the product or service must be the simplest product or service
and it must also provide an instant value. Freemium is the business model that has been growing in
popularity among businesses and obviously users/consumers due to apparent simplicity. Freemium is
composed of the two terms free and premium . The word freemium in itself was created after a
discussion on Fred Wilson s blog in 2006 where he wondered of what kind of business model allows a
business give your service away for free, possibly ad supported but maybe not, acquire a large number
of customers very efficiently through word of mouth, referral networks, organic search marketing,
etc., then offer premium priced value added services or an enhanced version of your service to your
customer base (Wilson, 2006). However the origins of the freemium business model come from the
business model called shareware. This business model has been ... Show more content on

This essay is only the visible side of the iceberg. The ever increasing value of a free buyer resulting in
the decreasing costs of marketing is for me the number one reason that should lead to switching to
freemium. But it is critical to consider the risks and the uncertainty that come with a freemium
business model. The decision to switch business model must be a meticulous process and it should
happen in one day. With social media sites being so popular, electronic word of mouth is another boost
to influencing and recommending friends to test new

Voltaire Use Of Optimism In Candide
Voltaire uses a lot of sarcasm to explain how he views the world. He believes that it is not just enough
to believe in some values and morals. What is important is that the actions of a person ought to reflect
on their beliefs perfectly. Voltaire goes ahead to argue that the experiences of life are vital to the
functionality of reason. Meaning that the knowledge one will have is dependent on their experiences
in life. In Candide, Voltaire shows several ways by which human beings view the world, optimism
coming out as the most obvious. It was Candide s optimism that kept him from a state of misery. His
optimism was hard to destroy. For instance, when he was with martin, testing the old woman s
assumption that all people are unhappy, martin keeps

The Importance Of St. Bernard Of Clairvaux
Proverbs 5:23 says, For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly (NIV). This
statement does not only seem to be the foundation of St. Bernard s teachings, but it is also provides a
glimpse to a life without Christian mysticism. St. Bernard of Clairvaux lived from 1090 1153 AD and
lived as a Cistercian abbot, acting as the mouthpiece for Christian mysticism during the Middle Ages.
Mysticism is defined, The spiritual discipline that enables an individual to experience union with God
or a divine principle (Quinn). Throughout St. Bernard s letters and teachings, he wanted the reader to
grasp the meaning and necessary steps to have an established relationship with Christ. St. Bernard of
Clairvaux was a mediator for Christian Mysticism because his teachings reflected mysticism s values
of discipline, obedience, and selflessness. St. Bernard stressed the importance of discipline, as it is not
only beneficial for someone to strengthen their relationship with Christ, but it is necessary for
someone to discipline themselves in order to draw closer to Christ. St. Bernard says in Some Letters of
Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, Thus I have determined to follow him as master always and
everywhere, but on the condition never to deviate from the authority of the Rule, which, as he himself
is witness, I have sworn and determined to keep (St. Bernard). In this excerpt of St. Bernard, he is
illustrating that the person must refrain from things that are

Cherokee Indians Stereotypes
Analyse the representation of a race, class, gender (or other roles in society) in two feature films or
television dramas you have studied.
In the movies The Searchers by John Ford in 1956 and Cowboys and Alien by Jon Favreau in 2011
there is a large variation of how race and gender are represented in the movie. Even though these
movies are 50 years apart there is are obvious links and differences in how race and gender are
portrayed in these two movies. Race in The Searchers is portrayed by marginalising the Cherokee
Indians. In The Searchers the Cherokee Indians are portrayed as childish savages , who hunt and kill
innocent family s and people and are the antagonists of the movie. However the Westerners are

In The Searchers, it displays the women as a dramatic figure who don t know how to fight and are
very vulnerable without the male figure, they are also shown as a lower figure then the males. Also
when the antagonists go to the Westerners family] house, it displays Lucy (the older sister) realising
that they are under attack from an enemy and she begins to let out a loud scream. This is known as the
damsel in the distress figure, further portraying the women as a vulnerable figure. Martha (the wife)
could be called the servant to the males of the movie. This is displayed in the movie when the
reverend arrives at the Westerners house and he begins to ask for items such as water, food, beverages
and many more items, Martha never second guesses the reverend and tells him to get it himself, she
rather accepts his requests and delivers the necessary items to him. This further portrays the male as
the dominant figure and the females as the less dominant figure. Later in the movie after Ethan and
Marty have been travelling for almost 4 years it shows Marty trading with some Cherokee Indians
trying to get information about the whereabouts of his sister in a more passive and friendly way.
However, when Marty is trading with the Indians he doesn t realise but he accidently buys a wife with
his trading. This further shows how women in The Searchers are portrayed as a means of trade, which
today is just not accepted to any degree. When

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
For this art critique, I went up to Schumacher Galley on the fourth floor of the library on Friday
afternoon. I had never been up there before, but I had heard great reviews from friends who had
before. The piece of art I choice to critique was a painting of Roger Rabbit from the movie, Who
Framed Roger Rabbit. The painting was painted in 1998, with vinyl paint on celluloid, photocopy
paper. From the description of the painting, this painting is from the scene where Roger is given the
assignment to look after Baby Herman while his mother is away. He promises to look after him as if
he were looking out after one of his relatives.
My first impression from the painting is Roger is goofy and very excited to watch Baby Herman. Due
to a painting being a still frame, the artist must be able to portray the emotion of character through
shading, expressions, etc. In this particular painting, the emotion of Roger Rabbit is clearly portrayed
through his face. The entire painting is focused around him and nothing else. It is made up bright
colors, basic shapes, and lines. The background is made up of a mix of light and dark ... Show more

To me this shows a lot about a piece of art, for there to be all these art pieces and out of all of them I
chose this specific piece. I chose this piece because I find it to be very relatable. Every kid becomes
super excited when they are finally given the opportunity to watch a little sibling, or given some type
of responsibility. Roger Rabbit has this super excited and silly expression on his face as he is told the
news. I believe the artist sums up this expression well. Roger Rabbit appears to be full of life and
potentially counting how many hours he will be watching baby Herman. This painting is very simple,
which allows the viewer to interpret what is actually occurring in the

Maus Parent Child Relationship Essay
How do graphic novels allow for explorations of parent child relationships and/or the idea of family?
This essay will look at the question of how graphic novels allow for the exploration of parent child
relationships and the idea of intergenerational family relations using primarily the works Maus by Art
Spiegelman and Persepolis by Marjani Satrapi. The primary relations are key to exploring this concept
of family. In Maus the key relationship is between the characters Artie and Vladek, son and father
respectively and Marji and her unnamed parents and grandmother. The dynamics of the family
relationships are explored in relation to the missing ; in Maus this is formed by the loss of Artie s
mother to suicide in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the removing of Marji from the family unit,
primarily for education but also to protect her from the impact of the Iranian revolution on her
freedom. There is also evidence that in using the graphic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mala also seems to display some hoarding tendencies in this scene. Having survived the Holocaust
herself could this be a habit she s picked up from a time when food was scarce. Art, growing up in
America in the fifties and sixties, without the desperation and poverty of war torn Poland, finds Mala s
hoarding of the coffee frustrating, telling her she makes the worst coffee of anyone he s ever known.
These behaviours, born of a time when both Vladek and Mala were scared for their lives have
followed them into their new lives. Perhaps Art is unable to understand why they still behave in such a
way when they are safe. His frustration at his father throwing out his coat is illustrated later in Maus II
when they re on holiday in a cabin. Art is unable to find his trousers and his father replies that he has
tidied them away. Art s reply is an acerbic, well thanks for not throwing them away! . His anger, guilt
and frustration with his father is never far

Plato s Apology And Ralph Waldo Emerson s On Self Reliance
Through Plato s Apology and Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance both contend that living an
unexamined life is living a life of ignorance and futility. On the other hand, living an examined life is
living an enlightened life full of intelligence. I agree with Plato and Emerson s similar ideas that
without knowledge, life as it is, is not worth living. They both argue that having personal beliefs
creates an intelligent society. Having knowledge allows for one to set goals and objectives to achieve
within a lifetime, which gives purpose to one s life. In Plato s Apology , Plato tells the story of
Socrates, a philosopher from Athens, Greece, who is accused by three men, a poet, a scholar and a
politician for having opposing beliefs. His charges are all based on the fact that he is a natural
philosopher and that he believes what is considered not to be the social norm. One of the charges he
faces is that he is accused of being a doer of evil, and corrupts the youth (Plato, 198). Socrates is
assumed to be someone who only harms others because he is considered to be evil. They admit that
since he does not care to accept what they consider to be true, then he must be doing evil. Socrates is
charged with corrupting the youth with his knowledge, yet when he addresses it to his accusers and
the court, he questions the charge by stating that if Meletus, his accuser, is charging him of corrupting
the youth then, Come hither. Meletus, and let me ask a question of you. You

  • 2. Thinking As A Nurse Being a nurse is a profession. With each profession, there is a certain amount of knowledge that needs to be applied to be able to carry out the necessary tasks. In the nursing field, as students we are required to learn the human anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to apply it to practice. Prior to reading Thinking as a Nurse, I had already developed a notion of what it meant to think like a nurse. Thinking like a nurse in my own terms, means to know how the body functions, general concepts, and lab values to ensure the safety of my patients. Thinking as a nurse involves patience, planning ahead for negative outcomes, and being able to adapt well to changes. I feel as though in the nursing field, there are constantly changes in a patients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book it discusses that being a nurse does not only require a skill set, but to analyze situations. I believe it is important to always analyze situations, but having skills that you are able to perform is crucial in nursing. Without knowing how to perform certain tasks precisely, you are placing your patient at risk for harm. For example, skills such sterile dressing, changing wounds, and inserting a catheter are all very important. Without the knowledge and ability to do those skills effectively, it puts the patients at harm. While I do understand what the author is trying to say, I still believe technical skills are not a distraction. Putting information together is also very important, but I believe making sure your skills are performable is very critical. Also, I disagree that memorization is not needed in nursing. The nursing field requires memorization and also applying the information. But, if you can t remember a pathophysiology, how are you able to apply it to a patient? You must first memorize how the body functions, and then how it can have abnormalities. This is advantage to my patients, because it gives me a baseline. Once I understood what body function is not functioning correctly, I am then able to review the labs necessary. I do agree with the concept that the nurse has to think like a nurse. This is important because if you are oblivious to patient safety then you are increasing the chance of harm happening to patients. It is also important to be thoughtful of our position, in the relationship of patient and nurse. We are obligated by law to carry out our responsibilities effectively. Being mindful reduces the likelihood of medication errors, and also reduces the chance of infection. Additionally, I do agree that nursing requires teamwork. It is important to have teamwork, because without it you may not know pertinent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technology And Science By Law Enforcement The National Institute of Justice defines forensic science as, the application of science, such as physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and engineering to matters of law, (2014). The emphasis here is the use of technology and science by law enforcement officers and agencies and is accepted and recognized by the criminal justice system. It is seen as scientific technology or Criminalistics, (Dempsey Forst, 2013). While technology plays a role in this, it is most recognized by the use of science by law enforcement and allowing scientific information to be admissible in the court of law. For this reason, forensic science is seen as a method to resolve legal matters or a scientific analysis for the purpose of judicial resolution, (Collins, 2007, p. 2). Weather this is using chemistry, such as a drug testing kit, to determine if a substance is an illegal drug, forensic science has become fundamental to policing. Science and technology can be used and applied in many ways. This can be observed through the various branches of forensic science. These include: forensic biology/DNA, controlled substances, forensic toxicology, forensic anthropology, forensic pathology and medicolegal death investigation, impression and pattern evidence, and trace evidence, (NIJ, 2014). In these ways, law enforcement agencies are able to use science to investigate crimes and practice law enforcement. Understanding the various ways that forensic science is applied in policing, one can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many cultures have come together within the United States making it possible for American citizens to be able to participate in other cultures without leaving the United States. As a result of the diversity found in America, I have been able to experience a little bit of the Vietnamese culture through my friend, Kim. Kim has been a great source of insight regarding the leadership utilized within the Vietnamese culture. Kim s family is from Vietnam and moved here in the early 1980 s. Kim and her older siblings were born in Vietnam. Her younger siblings were born in America. Her family has maintained their Vietnamese cultural roots and have adopted very little of the American culture. Kim graduated from high school and college in Minnesota. She works in a leadership position for the state of Minnesota and frequently travels to Vietnam. Kim s approach to organizational life is very structured. In her personal and work life she starts her day out by organizing her list of tasks that she would like to have completed or addressed by the end of the day. She provides an educated guess as to how long these tasks should take, however, she stays flexible if one task seems to take a little longer than expected. This is similar to how she organizes the tasks she would like her team members to be working on. When assigning tasks she does provide a ball park estimate as to how long the task should take. However with her team she remains flexible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both my parents were born in Mexico and immigrated here when they were young adults. I have an older sister and a younger brother, leaving me to be the middle child. I like reading, going out with friends, and spending time at home watching TV or movies. I started reading at a very young age and haven t put a book down since. I just love how people can create completely different worlds and share it with others, who then in turn make those worlds their own. My career goals are to be somewhat involved in the entertainment industry but behind the scenes. I want to have a job in the entertainment industry as a director of photography or a screenwriter, something that lets me be behind the camera and lets me share my ideas. I think I can make more of an impact in the entertainment industry being behind the scenes than I can if I was front and center of the camera. Being a screenwriter would allow me to create stories that empower women, humanize men, and give children people they can look up to and change their lives in a positive way. While being a DP wouldn t give me the same control over those things, it still has an impact on the audience. The audience could see a man crying and the lighting on him would make him appear powerful rather than weak, and the same could be done for a woman choosing to leave an unhealthy situation. Some conflicts that may get in the way of my commitment to this program would be my film class shooting schedule, and missing school. I don t have a problem missing Thursdays since I can always ask my teachers the day before what I would be missing and what I can do to make up the work we ll do in class the next day, so that won t be a big problem. • 6. The Rise And Impact Of Genghis Khan The Rise and Impact of Genghis Khan Genghis Khan was a relentless Mongolian warrior who attacked all who spoke against him. He united nomadic tribes, and defeated great empires, all of which led to the creation one of the world s largest empires spanning the Asian continent from Peking, China, to the Caspian Sea and had an area of nearly twelve million square miles. To know anything about Genghis Khan, one must have prior knowledge about the Mongols. The Mongols were ruthless people who seemed to have no fear or limits in how far they would go. They just kept on and persevered until they got what they wanted, no matter the price. They would kill, starve, drink blood, and brave staying out in the freezing temperatures of the north. They did not see food as a necessity until they were almost completely starved of it, and if they decided that it had finally reached that point, they would simply just cut open a vein from their horse and drink some of the horse s blood. After, they would continue riding, but not before patching up the horse s vein. That grotesque snack would give them the strength to keep moving through the cold. It was a must that they keep going through these practically unbearable conditions. They could not afford to stop. They had a hunger to take over as much as they could and moving through the challenges of freezing, starving, and constantly having to find a new place to stay was vital for that. Consequently, they continued with their violence in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Being Ernest The Importance of Being Earnest Character Analysis: In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, Wilde is mocking the Victorian society as a whole. In a society where affirmed progress was key, it was critical for artists like Oscar Wilde and the Ozark Actors Theatre to have a clear cut expression of the incomplete perception of life in the nineteenth century England. Wilde s onslaught on the conduct of the current times is an effort to accomplish the author s revelation that art has the capability to rule life, at a time when civilization measures progress by factual research. Wilde choice to adopt the English language as the means to alter society whether than the traditional methods or the scientific method was a bold move to go against ... At the start of the play, Algernon is talking to Lane about his life, but when Lane starts to say something about his life, Algernon expresses leisurely I don t know that I am much interested in your family life... (Algernon). As the stock characters of Algernon and Lane methodically follow the mold of master and servant in this hilarious story, their habitual behavior evolves into the source of humor and parody. The yes sir, no sir demeanor of Lane is blended with his profitable endeavors to gain wits with his employer, building the tone between Algernon and Lane antagonistic. By using Lane s character, Oscar Wilde is belittling the demeanor of the Victorian noble who consider themselves of extra importance to society. His intelligent representation of Lane suggests there is no discrepancy in understanding between upper and middle class individuals. OAT satirizes the upper class idea of progress by making short remarks about the importance of reading, the effectiveness of modern education, and the emergence of social cleverness. Jack combats social cleverness by stating that, everybody is clever now a days... (Jack) In addressing cleverness, Oscar Wilde berates those Victorians who merely hide behind this reality of development. OAT s satire of the Victorian emphasis on the human quality of earnestness is the bedrock this entire work. The title The Importance of Being Earnest is a paradox because Wilde does not have a congruent view with Victorian society on the magnitude of the importance of being serious. The paradox of the title embodies the satirical nature of the text. Wilde shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. age discrimination Essay Age Discrimination The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older from employment discrimination based on age. The ADEA s protections apply to both employees and job applicants. Under the ADEA, it is unlawful to discriminate against a person because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment, including hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training. It is also unlawful to retaliate against an individual for opposing employment practices that discriminate based on age or for filing an age discrimination charge, testifying, or participating in any way in an investigation, proceeding, or litigation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... · Pre Employment Inquiries The ADEA does not specifically prohibit an employer from asking an applicant s age or date of birth. However, because such inquiries may deter older workers from applying for employment or may otherwise indicate possible intent to discriminate based on age, requests for age information will be closely scrutinized to make sure that the inquiry was made for a lawful purpose, rather than for a purpose prohibited by the ADEA. · Benefits The Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 (OWBPA) amended the ADEA to specifically prohibit employers from denying benefits to older employees. Congress recognized that the cost of providing certain benefits to older workers is greater than the cost of providing those same benefits to younger workers, and that those greater costs would create a disincentive to hire older workers. Therefore, in limited circumstances, an employer may be permitted to reduce benefits based on age, as long as the cost of providing the reduced benefits to older workers is the same as the cost of providing benefits to younger workers. · Waivers of ADEA Rights An employer may ask an employee to waive his/her rights or claims under the ADEA either in the ... • 12. The Merchant Of Venice By William Shakespeare The play The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare is anti semetic because anti semetic thoughts and actions are incorporated in a majority of his charcters. The actions of these Christian charcters go against Shylock, and other Jews presented in the play; as a result, establishing a clear seperation between the two ethnic groups. The constant hatred and mistreatment towards Shylock only enhances the division since it develops the idea that Christianity is the superior religion. Although there are many instances in which Shakespeare creates sympathy for Shylock rather hate, Shakespeare s portrayal of him is what highlights the anti semitism in the play. In the play, it appears to be clear that anti Semitic charcaters, such as Antonio and Salanio, exist to highlight the mistreatment and power Christians have over the Jews. Many instances in which dominance is expressed towards Jews , is towards Shylock. In the play Shylock states regarding Antonio, You call me disbeliever, cutthroat dog, And spet upon my Jewish gaberdine, And all for use of that which is mine own. Well then, it now appears you need my help. Go to, then. In this story there is a re occurring tension between religion and desire. The tension between religion and desire is most clearly demonstrated between the characters of Yvette and the rector. Cynthia was described as a sign of life, because she was true to her heart and her desires, while the matter was described as a symbol of death. • 14. Analysis Of The Play By Lin Manuel Miranda s Hamilton Patiences is a Virtue In the play created by Lin Manuel Miranda called Hamilton we learn an astounding amount of different lessons as diverse as from the importance of family to patience. Miranda uses the characters in the play to convey the importance of patience is a variety of ways. Hamilton, Washington, and Angelica all have a conflict with patience in this extraordinary play. What separates each of these characters conflicts with patience is their individualized struggle with the challenge of patience itself, and their ability or inability to successfully contain the impulse of losing control which is represented numerous times in the play. Alexander Hamilton is portrayed as a young man hungry for the chance to leave his mark on history. At birth, Hamilton was subject to challenges due to his parents inability to care for him. In the opening song the introduction of hamilton s struggle as a child is presented to us through narration. The play begins, How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a scotsman...impoverished, in squalor grow up to be a hero and a scholar ( Alexander Hamilton 0:08)? Hamilton s correlation with patience is so prevalent in this quote because, as you see here, without the patience to overcome the challenge that an orphan faces such as the absence of a true parent figure, there would be no story to tell. Hamilton overcomes the odds he faced as a young child and as stated, becomes a hero and a scholar. Hamilton also shows an inability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As we have learned, the castle is an organization that bases its mission and culture on service. The castle s primary purpose is to serve the town and guarantee protection, and welfare to its people. Moreover, the entire hierarchical structure of the castle revolves around the ideals of serving those above me, while promoting the wellbeing of the people. What Is The Eulogy For The Pursuit Of Happyness Statement of Intent: In this piece of writing, the eulogy is about mourning the loss of Christopher Gardner at the funeral, in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness . His son, Christopher who speaks at his father s funeral showing the relationship between him and his father and also show the impact that Christopher has made on his son. This eulogy is set shortly after the end of the movie. Welcome everyone, we have all gathered here to mourn the loss of a good man, Christopher Gardner, my father. I am glad that I got the chance to have a father like him. I have always admired him, adored him. He was my role model and still is, I look up to him. He is the best dad in the world ever. I remember some time ago when my parents separated due to some financial issues, I m not really sure though, but even in these times, my mom left me but my father stayed on my side. He never left me, he was there when I needed both my parents the most. He did everything in his power to keep me happy. I hope I was the son he wanted me to be, I hope I didn t disappoint him as his son. I will never forget the words he said to me that day, If you want something, go get it, period . I remember when he didn t have a job and we were facing difficult times. I didn t realise the situation we were in, but now I ve realised that to get through the night, we had to sleep in a public bathroom in a subway. Well, at that time it seemed like an adventure but now, not as much. But we got through those time together, the times that tried to separate us which did succeed on separating me from my mom. If it wasn t for him, if he didn t take that one more step, we would still be sleeping in public bathrooms and I wouldn t even be here talking to you guys. He has carried me throughout this painful but extremely helpful journey which has taught me many things. The most important out of all is the value of life and money. When I was younger, I didn t care how much money my parents had, I didn t care how much they spent on me. The only one thing I did was to order them to but me useless toys, the toys which I barely played with. Now I know their pain, I know what they went through to get me those toys. This statement does not only seem to be the foundation of St. Bernard s teachings, but it is also provides a glimpse to a life without Christian mysticism. St. Bernard of Clairvaux lived from 1090 1153 AD and lived as a Cistercian abbot, acting as the mouthpiece for Christian mysticism during the Middle Ages. Mysticism is defined, The spiritual discipline that enables an individual to experience union with God or a divine principle (Quinn). Throughout St. Bernard s letters and teachings, he wanted the reader to grasp the meaning and necessary steps to have an established relationship with Christ. St. Bernard of Clairvaux was a mediator for Christian Mysticism because his teachings reflected mysticism s values of discipline, obedience, and selflessness. St. Bernard stressed the importance of discipline, as it is not only beneficial for someone to strengthen their relationship with Christ, but it is necessary for someone to discipline themselves in order to draw closer to Christ. St. Bernard says in Some Letters of Saint Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux, Thus I have determined to follow him as master always and everywhere, but on the condition never to deviate from the authority of the Rule, which, as he himself is witness, I have sworn and determined to keep (St. Bernard). From the description of the painting, this painting is from the scene where Roger is given the assignment to look after Baby Herman while his mother is away. He promises to look after him as if he were looking out after one of his relatives. My first impression from the painting is Roger is goofy and very excited to watch Baby Herman. Due to a painting being a still frame, the artist must be able to portray the emotion of character through shading, expressions, etc. In this particular painting, the emotion of Roger Rabbit is clearly portrayed through his face. This essay will look at the question of how graphic novels allow for the exploration of parent child relationships and the idea of intergenerational family relations using primarily the works Maus by Art Spiegelman and Persepolis by Marjani Satrapi. The primary relations are key to exploring this concept of family. In Maus the key relationship is between the characters Artie and Vladek, son and father respectively and Marji and her unnamed parents and grandmother. The dynamics of the family relationships are explored in relation to the missing ; in Maus this is formed by the loss of Artie s mother to suicide in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the removing of Marji from the family unit, primarily for education but also to protect her from the impact of the Iranian revolution on her freedom. Plato s Apology And Ralph Waldo Emerson s On Self Reliance Through Plato s Apology and Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance both contend that living an unexamined life is living a life of ignorance and futility. On the other hand, living an examined life is living an enlightened life full of intelligence. I agree with Plato and Emerson s similar ideas that without knowledge, life as it is, is not worth living. They both argue that having personal beliefs creates an intelligent society. Having knowledge allows for one to set goals and objectives to achieve within a lifetime, which gives purpose to one s life. In Plato s Apology , Plato tells the story of Socrates, a philosopher from Athens, Greece, who is accused by three men, a poet, a scholar and a politician for having opposing beliefs. His charges are all based on the fact that he is a natural philosopher and that he believes what is considered not to be the social norm. One of the charges he faces is that he is accused of being a doer of evil, and corrupts the youth (Plato, 198). Socrates is assumed to be someone who only harms others because he is considered to be evil. They admit that since he does not care to accept what they consider to be true, then he must be doing evil. Socrates is charged with corrupting the youth with his knowledge, yet when he addresses it to his accusers and the court, he questions the charge by stating that if Meletus, his accuser, is charging him of corrupting the youth then, Come hither.
