Tartuffe- Moliere
ENG 262 N Religious Hypocrisy in Moliere s Tartuffe Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere was one of the
greatest writers of the seventeenth century, being considered by many the greatest author of French
comedy. In his plays, called comedies of manners , Moliere satirizes the morals and social conventions
of his contemporaneous human society by using stock characters. In Tartuffe, a comedy of five acts,
the main topic is the analysis of religious hypocrisy and leader figures of the seventeenth century,
portraying Tartuffe in contrast with personages like Orgon. The main character is Tartuffe, the
hypocrite that tries to climb the social ladder by using Orgon s ignorance and blindness. Tartuffe

and my wife could die,/ And I d not feel a single moment s pain (Moliere 32). Moliere s personages

Pros And Cons Of Truck Drivers
The one thing that commercial or owner operator truckers dread the most is getting into an accident.
Given the weight and size of a semi rig compared to the average car, an accident can be very serious if
not catastrophic. To make matters worse, even the most careful truck drivers aren t guaranteed that
they won t have an accident at some point in their careers. The reason is that any one of the motor
vehicles on the road can do something unexpected that leaves the truck driver with no way out.
However, one defense against this is learning how to read the intentions of other drivers. This gives
you a heads up on the possible dangerous maneuvers of the traffic around you. Here are three tips on
how to do this:

Arctic Ocean Research Paper
American environmentalist Jeff Goodell once said, Some studies suggest that the Arctic Ocean may be
ice free by the end of the century. The destruction of the Polar Regions has caused major implications
for the Earth today and has caused a positive feedback loop that ultimately will cause them to deplete
further. The Polar Regions have slowly faded away due to the lack of precautions humans have taken
to protect them, such as the use of chlorofluorocarbons, the destruction of the ozone layer, and the
accelerated process of the Greenhouse Effect.
The Polar Regions The Polar Regions of the world consist of the northernmost and southernmost areas
of the Earth. The Arctic, the northern area of the Earth, is the more known polar region. The Arctic
consists of all the area located north of the Arctic Circle, which is found at 66°33 44 north of the
equator. The southern area of the earth is known as the Antarctic, all of the area south of the Antarctic
Circle. The Antarctic Circle is 66°33 44 south of the equator.

The Objectives Of The Lra 2002 Replaces And Repeals The...
Introduction The LRA 2002 replaces and repeals the Land Registration Act 1925 in its entirety.
However, the same principle which also applied in 2002 Act. Law based on these three principles. The
Mirror principle provide that by the register should reflect or reflect all the rights and interests of the
registered land titles. The curtain principle which is purchasers need look no further than the register

registered which is supported by the statutory scheme of national security and compensation. Both the
1925 and 2002 LRA embodied these principles, though the 2002 Act is more determined in its pursuit
of the mirror and curtain principles. The aim of the LRA2002 is described as total registration , in
other words to ensure that as much as possible the ownership of land in England and Wales takes the
form of title by registration . According to section 4, compulsory registration , awarded more than

Woodstock Research Papers
The Woodstock Music Festival is the most famous 1960s rock concerts, made by four promoters who
did not know what exactly they were doing. Even with no experience they still managed to create an
impressive masterpiece of a concert that truly captured the feel of the 1960s, with acts by Jefferson
Airplane, The Who, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. The Woodstock Festival took place
from August 15 17 1969 on Max Yasgur s dairy farm in Bethel, New York. The Woodstock music and
art fair never actually was planned for Woodstock, but for the village of Wallkill fifteen miles to the

A three day concert that rolled into a fourth day, involved a lot of drugs, music, and mud. It soon
became a symbol of what is known as Woodstock Nation , which is the term used to describe young
people who distrusted authority and standard American values. In the sixties the word hippie had a
negative connotation to it, making this festival more frowned upon than anything. This festival was
also considered a reaction to conservative attitudes of post World War I.
Woodstock is now synonymous with love, peace, and zenith of sixties hippidom, but these things
came close to being known by the altogether less peaceful name of Wallkill, which is where organizers
had originally planned to hold the festival until objections from other residents threatened to sink the
entire project ( Where )
The traffic surrounding Woodstock was insane. On the Friday morning of the festival by 7 am there
was already traffic everywhere within a mile of the venue. After a few more hours there was traffic
jams up to 20 miles outside the venue. The police reported an increasing number of abandoned on the
shoulders of the highways as people decided it would be easier and faster just to walk to Bethel.
Before the festival even started an estimate of the people in the surrounding area and on the festival
grounds had already reached 400,000. Sullivan county was described as a great big parking lot.

Women And The Etruscan Culture
Us Etruscans are well known for our grand funerary practices, which involve creating enormous multi
chambered tombs, especially for us wealthy families, with some exceeding 130 feet in diameter and
reaching nearly 50 feet in height . Banditaccia necropolis, the Greek word that translates to the city of
the dead 1, started becoming an orderly arrangement of subterranean tombs along a system of streets
in the seventh century and now, in the fifth century, or the Archaic Period, our tombs are continuing to
expand in great size, taking up more than 100 acres of land!
While Greek women are expected to remain at home, Etruscan women are encouraged to attend
banquets and recline with their husbands on the common couch, regularly attend sporting events with
their man, and can legally own our own property1. To be honest, the independence and freedom that
women enjoy here horrify and threaten the Greeks. Being a female in the Etruscan culture, I am proud
to be an Etruscan because of the fact that we are known for how our culture treats women. Since our
culture does not leave much documentation, my tomb must be used to provide an awareness and
understanding of how we live our lives. My husband was able to achieve hegemony through the main
activities of agriculture and metallurgy , eventually becoming known as a dignitary, making us a well
known family and an important part of the aristocracy in the Etruscan society. The Banditaccia

The Role Of Anti-Semitism In Jewish Identity
Anti Semitism played a significant role in shaping the Jewish identity specifically, the Anti Semitism
that snowballed into the infamous events that were the actions of the Christian community and the
Holocaust. Primary components of the Jewish identity were unwelcomingly sculpted by the hands of
those who participated in Anti Semitism; the Anti Semite way of thinking created effects on Jews from
years ago that seem to have translated to the Jewish identity of the modern day.
The article associated with the video defines Anti Semitism as prejudice against or hatred of Jews. The
first event of the two involved Christianity alienating the Jewish community. They ostracized Jewish
people in every regard and made up lies about them. In turn, the Jews attempted to assimilate this
assimilation a result of the Jewish identity being a product of Anti Semitism. Though the Jewish
people made these attempts to assimilate, the article and video state that Anti Semites believe that
assimilation does not erase the racial differences between the two groups this form of ... Show more

Options For Implementing Intrusion Detection Systems Essay
Options for Implementing Intrusion Detection Systems Signature based IDS These IDS possess an
attacked description that can be matched to sensed attack manifestations. It catches the intrusions in
terms of the characteristics of known attacks or system vulnerabilities. This IDS analyzes information
it gathers and compares it to a database of known attacks, which are identified by their individual
signatures. The rules are pre defined. It is also known as misuse detection. The drawbacks of this IDS
is that they are unable to detect novel or unknown attacks, Suffer from false alarm and have to
programmed again for every new pattern to be detected. Anomaly based IDS This IDS models define
the baseline to describe normal state of network or host. Any activity outside baseline is considered to
be an attack i.e. it detects any action that significantly deviates from the normal behavior. The primary
strength is its ability to recognize novel attacks. The drawback is that it assumes that intrusions will be
accompanied by manifestations that are sufficiently unusual so as to permit detection. These generate
many false alarms as well and hence compromise the effectiveness of the IDS. Network based IDS
This IDS looks for attack signatures in network traffic via a promiscuous interface. It analyzes all
passing traffic. A filter is usually applied to determine which traffic will be discarded or passed on to
an attack recognition module. This helps to filter out known un malicious

William Harvey Research Paper
Science has given the world countless inventions that make human life and progression sophisticated.
From ancient times to today, scientific discoveries continue to advance. During the Scientific
Revolution (sixteen hundreds), numerous inventions and theories were devised. Galileo Galilei
established the Law of Inertia, invented the telescope, and perfected the Scientific Method. Isaac
Newton made stellar revelations in physics and calculus. Finally, Benjamin Franklin made advances in
technology. He invented gadgets such as bifocals, the odometer, and the lightning rod. Along with
these wise men, William Harvey s discovery greatly affected the people of his time, and still does to
this day. William Harvey, a British doctor, stated that blood pumped by the heart circulates throughout
the entire body.

Harvey and Joane Hawke on April, 1 1578. His father was a successful businessman. At the age of

doctors and civilians alike believed that each body part had its own blood. For example, arm blood

practice bloodletting. Bloodletting was the withdrawal of large amounts of blood in a specific body
part in order to get disease or infection out of an ill patient s system. This practice was not safe and
ended in many deaths. William Harvey s discovery allowed sick patients to get safe, correct treatment.
It also gave doctors a deeper understanding of the human body and the knowledge to improve
medicine. In short, William Harvey made patient care safe and practical, and gifted fellow and future

Abstract: Historically, the participation of women of Bangladesh in energy sector is negligible. The
gender analysis shows that energy poverty is a gender biased poverty because poor women suffers
much for electricity and modern energy services. In rural area, people depend on inherent traditional
energy sources like wood, straw, kerosene and cow dung for cooking and indoor lightening which are
very inefficient and unhealthy especially for women and children remaining at home who are
frequently exposed to air pollution due to this. Now it is a new challenge to replace these unhealthy
energy sources with environment friendly energy sources. The objective of this paper is to co relate
the gender equality and clean source of energy i.e. renewable energy. This paper concludes that though
there is no pure technological solution achieving gender equality and women s empowerment, in the
light of the social context of rural Bangladesh where women are discriminated can have full access to
clean energy source and modern technology which will

The Nazi doctors medical research for genetic and military purposes were monstrous and barbaric.
The Nazis thought that if Aryan women gave birth to twins with blond hair and blue eyes, then the
future will be saved. Mengele believed that the twins had secrets. He thought that Auschwitz was the
best location for research because of the big number of twins to use for experiments. Josef Mengele

as the selector on the ramp. He would send people either to the right or left, to the gas chamber or to

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Essay
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be a very serious and debilitating condition that occurs after
a person has been exposed to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical danger happened or
was threatened. The kinds of traumatic events triggering PTSD in people include violent personal
assaults (rape, mugging), natural disasters (hurricanes, tornadoes), man made disasters (bombings),
accidents or military combat. People who suffer from PTSD often relive the experience through
nightmares and flashbacks, have difficulty sleeping, and feel detached or estranged, and these
symptoms can be severe enough and last long enough to significantly impair a person s daily life.

Rates of PTSD are much higher in post conflict settings such as Algeria (37%), Cambodia (28%),
Ethiopia (16%), and Gaza (18%)(de Jong et al., 2001).
The first stressor criterion specifies that a person has been exposed to a catastrophic event involving
actual or threatened death or injury. The second criterion, or intrusive recollection, includes symptoms
that are distinctive and easily identified of PTSD. These emotions manifest in daytime fantasies,
traumatic nightmares, and psychotic reenactments know as flashbacks. The third criteria,
avoidant/numbing, consists of symptoms that reflect behavioral, cognitive, or emotional strategies the
PTSD patients use in an attempt to reduce the likelihood that they will expose themselves to trauma
related stimuli. The fourth criteria, hyper arousal, most closely resembles those seen in panic and
generalized anxiety disorders. While symptoms such as insomnia and irritability are generic anxiety
symptoms, hyper vigilance and startle are more characteristic of PTSD. The fifth criteria, duration,
specifies how long symptoms must persist in order to qualify for a PTSD diagnosis. The last criteria,
functional significance, specify that the survivor must experience significant social, occupational, or
other distress as a result of these symptoms. Since 1980, there has been a great deal of attention

Grice s Cooperative Principle And Kinds Of Pragmatics...
This chapter explains an overview of related theories, which are the pragmatics theory by George Yule
including the Grice s cooperative principle and kinds of maxim according to Grice.
2.1 Pragmatics
According to Yule (1996), pragmatics is concerned with the study of meaning as communicated by a
speaker (or writer) and interpreted by a listener (or reader). Pragmatics focuses more on how we
achieve meaning in a particular context, by considering such factors as how, where and when
something is said, who says it, what is the relationship between the speaker and the listener, and how
we understand the use of ambiguous language (Baker and Ellece, 2011, p.100). In other words,
pragmatics is the study of speaker meaning. Therefore, from the ... Show more content on

67). In other words, flouting the maxim of quality occurs when a speaker says something which needs
to be considered as blatantly untrue. For example: Mark : Great, that s really great! That s made my
Christmas!
Mark is a speaker who says something which is considered as blatantly untrue, because at that time, he
got accident on the day, and he wishes it will be happiness day. He became upset that made him say
something which is blatantly untrue. So, the speaker blatantly fails to observe a maxim in order to lead
the hearer to look for implied meaning or in this situation the hearer already knows that Mark says the
opposite.
2.1.2.3 Flouting Maxim of Relation
Thomas (1996) said that the maxim of relation is exploited by making a response or observation
which is very obviously irrelevant to the topic in hand (p.70). So, the speaker flouts the maxim of
relation if his/her contribution is not relevant. For

Canada s Drug Laws And Drugs
Canada s drug regulations are covered by the Food and Drug Act and the Controlled Drugs and
Substances Act. In relation to controlled and restricted drug products the Controlled Drugs and
Substances Act establishes eight schedules of drugs and new penalties for the possession, trafficking,
exportation and production of controlled substances as defined by the Governor in Council. Drug
policy of Canada has traditionally favoured punishment of the smallest of offenders, but this
convention was partially broken in 1996 with the passing of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Until 1908 the use of narcotics, opiates especially, in Canada was unregulated.[2] From the 1850s
onwards, Chinese immigrants came to British Columbia in droves, establishing opium dens in their
isolated communities. Canadian employers saw the Chinese immigrants as a source of cheap labour,
and the government viewed opium consumption as another way to gain revenue, imposing a tax on
opium factories in 1871. However, with the decline of the gold rush in the 1880s resentment towards
the Chinese grew, as unemployed Canadians could not compete with cheap Chinese labour.[3]
Additionally, Japanese immigration to Canada began to rise sharply, resulting in demonstrations
against Asian labour. In 1907, there was a particularly large demonstration against Asian immigrants
in Vancouver s Chinatown.[4] In response to the demonstrations, Deputy Minister of Labour

Online Shopping Disadvantages
Many of people do their shopping online because it is convenient, cost effective, and offers more
selection of products rather than going into a physical brick and mortar store. Seemingly, the only
downside is the shipping time, but the real cost is that it is gradually killing off local businesses such
as the mom and pop shops, department stores, and also shopping malls. These physical stores provide
tax base and jobs within their communities. Online retailers largely have minimal overhead, and drive
prices down lower than what most brick and mortar stores can bare. Online sales have many economic
benefits that brick and mortar stores don t have, which has created an environment where online
entities thrive while unintentionally causing their brick and mortar counterparts to fail in many cases.
Online retail shopping has grown dramatically over the past years; more and more, people are relying
on their fingertips to do the shopping rather than using their legs. Barbara Mantel, a writer for the CQ
Research states that, online shopping has grown fourfold since 2002 and now accounts for about 10
percent of discretionary retail spending in the United States. (par. 1). If people continue shop online, it
will continue the pressure on and tension between brick and mortar and online stores, resulting in
more failures of brick and mortar stores. An example of this growth is that the number of consumers
spent shopping with their smartphones jumped 385 percent between February 2010 and February 2013
says Mantel. (par. 14). This number is proving that online retailers are gaining momentum, whereas
the mom and pop shops are declining.
Many stores are already feeling the effects of online shopping. Big department stores like Sears,
Kmart, Macy s, and J.C. Penney have filed bankruptcy. According to The Independent, about 300
retail businesses went bust just between January and June of this year. Online shopping isn t the only
reason that they re closing down, but it does play a significant role in their closing. The reason why
these stores are closing down is that they just cannot compete with online shopping because they don t
have reasonable revenue for brick and mortar stores to compete with these monstrous

Famine In Ireland In The 1800 s
In the early 1800 s, relations between Ireland and England were tense. The English were building their
support by enforcing plantations, pieces of land that once belonged to indigenous Catholic Irish and
putting the ownership to the incoming settlers from England and Scotland. Therefore, the
impoverished Irish rented their land out from the wealthier owners who resided miles and miles away.
In the 1800 s, the majority of Ireland was dependant on potatoes, as it was cheap and easy to grow for
the enormous poor population that resided there. In 1845, toxic disease spread through all of Europe s
potatoes, greatly affecting the Irish, who were enormously dependent on the crop. Because the strong

It can be argued that the reason the government failed to react as it should in time of crisis is because
of the widespread belief of laissez faire. This argument is flawed, as the strict rules against the
government s invasion of personal matters were broken on numerous occasions to benefit the British
landlords, who hired the police force to guard the ports while ships full of food left a starving Ireland.
John Mitchel, the leader of the Young Ireland Movement, wrote the following in 1860: The British
Prime Minister had violated every pledge previously made on arriving at place and power... but the
pity was that the minister was permitted to act so with impunity (NJCHE 4). The twisted version of
laissez faire that had corrupted the government was so normal and such a popular opinion, that they
were accumsed to the prominent wrongs the leaders were invoking on the Irish people. Not only that,
but there was an unspoken agreement that the concept of laissez faire was only a strict policy when
concerning the Irish, but when regarding the British people there was extreme flexibility. Furthermore,
Kinealy, in her book The Great Calamity, wrote, The underlying philosophy of the relief efforts was
that they should be kept to a minimalist level; in fact they actually decreased as the Famine progressed

Riggs V. Palmer Case Analysis
After Francis B. Palmer murder, the main question that was posed by the court is should a murderer
inherit ? There was a disagreement between the judges on how the statute of wills should be applied
and interpreted. As a result, Judge Gray made some surprisingly strong arguments that the court is
bound by the rigid rules of law , therefore, Elmer should not be denied his inheritance. Unlike the
dissenting judge, Judge Earl claims that no one should take advantage of his own unlawful actions.
Due to these different perspectives, I will first analyse both judge s decision. Secondly, I will make a
claim that Judge Earl s decision was inconsistent and invalidates the written statutory law, therefore,
the dissenting judges make a stronger argument. Finally, I will use the Legal Positivism Theory to

Palmer case, the court sided with the majority judges on the notion that Elmer should not benefit from
his crime. Considering that this maxim was not law, the court s decision was solely based on moral
judgement. Even though there was a binding will that granted Elmer the property, the majority
believed that the legislators who created the statute of wills did not intend to allow a murderer to
inherit under the will. Judge Earl continued to infer that if the case existed at the time of the creation
of statutory wills, necessary steps would have been taken to prevent this issue. His argument was
based on the fact that Elmer s intention was to commit murder to receive the property, therefore, to

Swot Analysis Of Mac Ride
1.0 Introduction
In this capstone integrated project report, the project team explored the firm Ride More Innovations
Ltd. (RMI) and its first product, Mac Ride . Mac Ride is a unique, front mounted, child seat for
mountain bicycles. This report begins by analyzing the child bike seat industry. Subsequently, RMI s
current strategy, potential markets and competitors across various geographical locations are
investigated in detail. Based on this analysis, different strategies are analyzed before a final
recommendation is suggested. The report also includes an implementation guide for the recommended
strategy as well as a description of the finance required to execute the strategy and expected results of
the strategy execution.

Accordingly, the child can participate in the ride, stand on the stirrups, all while having fun and
learning about balance and speed. Additionally, parents benefit by having the opportunity to have a
real conversation with his/her child without distractions or having to continually look back. Mac Ride
facilitates a closer connection between parents and children in their bicycle riding experience.
Mac Ride seats are easy to set up and suitable for off road riding, and, therefore, support an active,
engaged experience for children. Once the Mac Ride seat is removed, the only thing left on the bike is
a small spacer ring which blends into the bicycle design and may go completely unnoticed. Easy
removal and installation also allows parents to exchange the Mac Ride child seat quickly so parents
may take turns exploring and sharing their bicycling adventure with their child.
There do exist conventional front mounted bicycle children s seats. However, they have limited space
and children quickly outgrow the plastic seats which are usually clunky, aesthetically unpleasing, and
difficult to maintain. However, Mac Ride has extendable legs and a movable seat, allowing children to
use the seat for a longer duration than other conventional front mounted seats. Depending on the size
of the bike and height of the rider, children as old as 6 can easily use and have fun with Mac Ride.
Furthermore, other front mounted child carriers often force the

Interdisciplinary studies can be recited as a degree plan that will allow students to use their knowledge
from pervious field to another field study. In the textbook the authors Repko and Szostak (2017),
describe interdisciplinary as studies between two or more fields of study. This can also be considered
as a research study that will enhance knowledge in understanding a variety of complex situations
while constructing a field study. Repko and Szostak argue that interdisciplinary should be viewed as
complementary to discipline rather than a threat to them. My beliefs is that interdisciplinary can be

Introduction to Forensic Investigations
Locard s Exchange Principle and the use of Fingerprints: Edmond Locard (1877 1966) was a French
scientist specialised in both medicine and law. Inspired by the work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond
that created the concept that all objects of any material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it
touches, even if it is the minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923).
This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in circumstances such as a
crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who and perhaps even how that crime was
committed by finding small materials, either physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would
directly link back to the offender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

objects uniquness. If a window is pryed open to gain entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it
open will share different properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we
will clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark. By
comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could show that this was the
screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be used as evidence in court to prosecute the said
suspect. Individualisation is pretty much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in
Forensic Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us to believe
that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints, a
pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to be found, this would mean the entire theory of
individualisation would fall apart. Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to
prove that this theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item of
that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is no way we can prove
this test to be false. Paul Leland Kirk believed that individualisation was a key idea in Forensic
Investigations and stated that

The Death Of The Indian Independence Movement
The Right to Life
Leader of the Indian independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, It seems to me as clear as
daylight that abortion would be a crime (Gandhi, Mahatma). Yet federal law in the United States has
given women the right to kill their unborn children through the Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973. In the
years since, over 58,000,000 American children have lost their lives without even having the chance to
protect themselves. In 2015 alone, 1,058,400 children were killed by abortion in the United States, and
43,800,000 worldwide. The war against children of abortion is the bloodiest in world history
(Abortions in America).
The Declaration of Independence declares life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness inalienable human
rights. If the Supreme Court takes this right from the unborn, why not others? Abortion should be
illegal in America for the following reasons: first, the obvious point at which to understand human life
s origin is conception, not birth; second, in depriving human beings of life, the Roe v. Wade ruling is
itself unconstitutional; finally, abortion has medical, psychological and spiritual effects on others
beyond the child being deprived of life.
Abortion should be illegal because life begins at conception; scientific and medical discoveries over
the past three decades have verified and solidified this age old truth. Dr. Jerome LeJeune, Professor of
Genetics at the University of Descartes, Paris, discoverer of the chromosome pattern of Down

Hegel And Kant On The Ontological Argument Essay
Hegel and Kant on the Ontological Argument
ABSTRACT: I intend to present Kant s refutation of the ontological argument as confronted by Hegel
s critique of Kant s refutation. The ontological argument can be exposed in a syllogistic way:
everything I conceive as belonging clearly and distinctly to the nature or essence of something can be
asserted as true of something. I perceive clearly and distinctly that existence belongs to the nature or
essence of a perfect being; therefore, existence can be stated as true of a supremely perfect being, that
is, perfect being exists. I intend to argue that Kant criticizes both the major and minor premises. To the
major premise, he objects that there is an unqualified passage from the logical to the ... Show more

Premise 2 holds the central idea of the ontological argument: it implies that existence is a property or
quality, and as such should take part of the essence of a supremely perfect being. Such conception
could be expressed in the following derived argument:
1) All perfections belong clearly and distinctly to the essence of a supremely perfect being;
2) Existence is a perfection therefore, existence belongs to the essence of a supremely perfect being
II. Kant s Refutation of the Ontological Argument
Kant s criticism aims at both premises of the main argument. To the major premise, he objects that
there is an unjustified passage from the logical to the ontological level: But the unconditioned
necessity of judgments is not the same as an absolute necessity of things. The absolute necessity of the
judgments is only a conditioned necessity of the thing, or of the predicate in the judgment (KrV, B621)
In other words, to conceive that S is P doesn t imply the necessary existence of S. Such proposition
requires not the absolute necessity of something but a

The Bluest Eye And Yasunari Kawabata s Thousand Cranes
Symbols are a primal medium of communication used today and convey different meanings
depending upon one s cultural background. Hence, the significance of a symbol is not inherent in the
symbol itself but is rather cultivated in society. Both Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye and Yasunari
Kawabata s Thousand Cranes explore the significance of such symbols, focusing on the basal reader
of Dick and Jane and the ritualized practice of the Japanese Tea Ceremony, respectively. These two
symbols, while disparate on the surface, share fundamental similarities and define their roles in the
modern world by signifying a departure from antiquated views regarding race and tradition. Not only

The words which Kawabata uses to describe a bowl used to drink tea brings attention to the elegance
of the Japanese Tea Ceremony; in fact, the Oribe was four hundred years old [...] as tea masters have
looked after it and passed it down through the centuries (Kawabata 19 20). Tea practitioners must have
recognized certain appealing qualities in the tea vessels that deemed them worthy of being passed
down from generation to generation. Dick and Jane and the Japanese Tea Ceremony both place
emphasis on beauty, with a detailed characterization of aesthetic elements. In addition to a common
emphasis on aesthetic appeal, Dick and Jane and the Japanese Tea Ceremony also share a formulaic
structure. In Dick and Jane, the stories are depicted in a prescribed manner to only include positive
events; for example, Mother is very nice [...] Father is smiling. Smile, Father, smile [...] Here comes a
friend. The friend will play with Jane (Morrison 3). Each scene in the children s series takes place
during the day, and the sun is always shining, knees are never scraped, parents never yell, and friends
always come to play. The author s use of words such as nice and smiling accentuates the structure of
the story and how it is one sided. Each page only contained one new word, and on every third page,
the new words would be combined, with only five to six new words total (Mancini). Furthermore,

Why I Want To Marry Cromwell
Cromwell was at the height of power, religious success and continued to have a tight hold on his
master King Henry VIII. After the death of Henry s third wife Jane Seymour, Cromwell advised a new
political marriage for the king. To pursue his own advantage and build Protestant connections in
Europe, Cromwell suggested the king take a German bride. This would also aid Cromwell against anti
Cromwell factions and nobilities, due to the potential bride being an outsider rather than English
noblewomen. Cromwell finally found success in the Duke of Cleves sister Anne. Henry, eager to
marry once again, sent his artist to paint her portrait, determined to have a beautiful wife. Henry
received her portrait and approved of the young Anne of Cleves, she soon set sail for England, an
enormous accomplishment for Cromwell s domestic and foreign policy. Henry titled Cromwell earl of

How Is Imagery Used In The Sniper
The short story, The Sniper, takes place in Dublin, Ireland, in 1922, during the Irish Civil War. On the
rooftops, lay two snipers who are in the middle of a shootout, after dusk. The main character of focus,
a Republican sniper, is pursued throughout the whole story. Faced with numerous challenges, he
battles unbearable pain, atop the impossible situation placed before him. At certain times, he uses his
utter cleverness to outsmart the free state sniper. Eventually, he figures out that the man he shot was
his brother. Liam O Flaherty uses strong sensory and imagery details, inner thinking, and revealing
actions to support and enhance the short story, The Sniper.

The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the
moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets
and the dark waters of the Liffey... Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the
silence of the night, spasmodically, like dogs barking on lone farms. Liam O Flaherty starts the story
off with a strong sense of detail, and it immediately emerges the reader into the story and makes them
envision being in Dublin at the time of the war. Halfway throughout the story, the sniper gets shot. The
author uses sensory details to create an image that makes the reader envision the actual pain the
character is battling against. Then taking out his field dressing, he ripped open the packet with his
knife. He broke the neck of the iodine bottle and let the bitter fluid drip into the wound. A paroxysm of
pain swept through him. He placed the cotton wadding over the wound and wrapped the dressing over
it. He tied the ends with his teeth. When the author emerges the reader into the story, it makes them
able to relate to the agony the sniper is in, which contributes back to the mood.

Miles and Snow have produced a typology of business level strategies. Their typology involves four

Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
During the Civil War period, a pro¬slavery mob chained Francis McIntosh to a locust tree, burnt him
fatality in 1837. There are a lot of abolitionists, like Elijah Parish Lovejoy, who lost their lives when
criticizing lynching. Elijah Parish Lovejoy showed both physical and moral courage fighting against
inequality. The real courage of abolitionists during that time was gaining equal opportunities for
African ¬Americans, and be treated the same as white people, no matter the consequences. Even after
a century, there is no slavery anymore, there is still racism happening. In Harper Lee s book To Kill a
Mockingbird, she shows the real meaning of courage fighting for equal rights in the small town of
Maycomb, Alabama, during the Great Depression. Lee shows that the society is unfair and teaches
people how important it is to have courage. The novel is narrated by an innocent girl named Scout,
whose father, Atticus, is a famous lawyer, and tries to provide equal rights to the people. She lives
with her father Atticus and her older brother Jem. The two siblings grow up learning about prejudice,
unfair treatments in the society and they started to understand the moral of life. In the event of Tom
Robinson, poor black men, is being accused of raping a white girl which is not true. He is being
treated unequally, they stand up, show respect to the African¬ Americans and fight against racism.

Total Phenolic Content of Grape Juice using Visible Spectrophotometry
Abstract
The health benefits of red wine are well known and consumption has been encouraged more over the
years because of the populations increasing obesity rates and the inherent complications thereof;
including coronary heart disease and high blood pressure. Since the phenolic compounds in wine
combats these negative effects and originate from the grape itself the focus of this study was the total

The concentrations of total phenolic compounds are written in Gallic Acid Equivalents (GAE) in units
of milligrams of gallic acid per 100 milliliters of juice. Educational institutes frown upon buying
students alcohol, even for scientific purposes, so white and red grape juices were used in this
experiment rather than wine to determine the total phenolic content by visible spectrophotometery.
Objective
The overall objective of this experiment is to measure the total phenolics content in grape juice using a
standard curve to find the sample s phenolic concentration in milligrams of gallic acid equivalent for
every 100 milliliters of juice.
Materials and Methods
This experiment used the Gilson pipetman Neo, Genesys 20 spectrophotometer, Folin Ciocalteu s
phenol reagent, saturated Na2CO3 solution as well as the requisite test tubes, volumetric flasks,
analytical scale and graduated cylinder necessary to obtain accurate results. The first step required the
preparation of the gallic acid stock solution. This was made by quantitatively transferring 80
milligrams of gallic acid into a 250 mL volumetric flask, dissolving it into solution by using 50 mL
methanol, bringing it up to volume with deionized water and mixing the solution vigorously. The final
concentration of the stock solution should be approximately 320 µg/mL, depending on the mass of
gallic acid measured. The working solutions that

Immigration And The Immigration Act Of 1903
Introduction Immigration to the US has always been a complex phenomenon involving the
development of different people from different nations, cultures, and has added to the United State s
rich history. Immigration has brought both benefits and consequences to the United States in forms of
economic stability and opportunity, mass settlements of foreign peoples, but also culture clash all
resulting in the US attempt to curb immigration with the passing of several legislations. Many
attempts to curb immigration were taken by US Congress with the passing of the Chinese Exclusion
Act in 1882, and the Immigration Act of 1903; all used to insure specific laws and boundaries set on
immigrants. Heavy resentment against immigrants in the US pushed Congress for limitations that
brought many tensions against races like the Irish and Chinese. To capture the true essence of
immigration and its responses by the State, one must make a critical effort in analyzing the historical
patterns of migration to the New World, including the United States. It begins with colonial America
when large populations of people, mainly English, French, German, and Spanish migrated to America
with a deliberate intent to exploit the people, land, and resulting in the creation of caste system of
subjugation. This first set of immigrants to America would be later considered as Old Immigrants,
being differentiated from New Immigrants that would later come in time. As a result of the conquest
of Mexico,

they meet the Buddha, whom Govinda stays with to be a monk while Siddhartha leaves to continue on

have truly achieved inner peace. Hesse uses Govinda as a contrast to Siddhartha. As displayed in

In his article, Koester describes Hesse s approach to youthfulness as no more than the tortured
development of individuality, wondering if this is derived from Hesse s own rebellious childhood.
Esther Gropper talks of the typical mental development as a three stage process, which Hesse uses
frequently. The first, typically young childhood, is characterized by respect and happiness. The
second, after the person is introduced to good and evil, is characterized by despair and loneliness. The
third is encountered when the person is able to separate himself or herself from the pain of reality to
realize pure thought. Gropper also notes that Siddhartha is so popular among the young because the
characters suffer loneliness and despair before realizing their place in the world by discovering more
about themselves.
Hans Beerman
Siddhartha feels he must discover this purpose to life on his own, whereas Govinda feels he can learn
it by listening to and following the doctrines of others. It is noted in the beginning of the story that

aspects of their religion with adults. However, Siddhartha already begins his questioning of the
traditional beliefs. He begins to wonder

  • 2. Tartuffe- Moliere ENG 262 N Religious Hypocrisy in Moliere s Tartuffe Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere was one of the greatest writers of the seventeenth century, being considered by many the greatest author of French comedy. The reason is that any one of the motor vehicles on the road can do something unexpected that leaves the truck driver with no way out. However, one defense against this is learning how to read the intentions of other drivers. This gives you a heads up on the possible dangerous maneuvers of the traffic around you. • 4. Arctic Ocean Research Paper American environmentalist Jeff Goodell once said, Some studies suggest that the Arctic Ocean may be ice free by the end of the century. The destruction of the Polar Regions has caused major implications for the Earth today and has caused a positive feedback loop that ultimately will cause them to deplete further. The Polar Regions have slowly faded away due to the lack of precautions humans have taken to protect them, such as the use of chlorofluorocarbons, the destruction of the ozone layer, and the accelerated process of the Greenhouse Effect. The Polar Regions The Polar Regions of the world consist of the northernmost and southernmost areas of the Earth. The Arctic, the northern area of the Earth, is the more known polar region. The Arctic consists of all the area located north of the Arctic Circle, which is found at 66°33 44 north of the equator. The southern area of the earth is known as the Antarctic, all of the area south of the Antarctic Circle. The Antarctic Circle is 66°33 44 south of the equator. • 7. Woodstock Research Papers The Woodstock Music Festival is the most famous 1960s rock concerts, made by four promoters who did not know what exactly they were doing. Even with no experience they still managed to create an impressive masterpiece of a concert that truly captured the feel of the 1960s, with acts by Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. The Woodstock Festival took place from August 15 17 1969 on Max Yasgur s dairy farm in Bethel, New York. It soon became a symbol of what is known as Woodstock Nation , which is the term used to describe young people who distrusted authority and standard American values. In the sixties the word hippie had a negative connotation to it, making this festival more frowned upon than anything. This festival was also considered a reaction to conservative attitudes of post World War I. Woodstock is now synonymous with love, peace, and zenith of sixties hippidom, but these things came close to being known by the altogether less peaceful name of Wallkill, which is where organizers had originally planned to hold the festival until objections from other residents threatened to sink the entire project ( Where ) The traffic surrounding Woodstock was insane. • 8. Women And The Etruscan Culture Us Etruscans are well known for our grand funerary practices, which involve creating enormous multi chambered tombs, especially for us wealthy families, with some exceeding 130 feet in diameter and reaching nearly 50 feet in height . Banditaccia necropolis, the Greek word that translates to the city of the dead 1, started becoming an orderly arrangement of subterranean tombs along a system of streets in the seventh century and now, in the fifth century, or the Archaic Period, our tombs are continuing to expand in great size, taking up more than 100 acres of land! While Greek women are expected to remain at home, Etruscan women are encouraged to attend banquets and recline with their husbands on the common couch, regularly attend sporting events with their man, and can legally own our own property1. To be honest, the independence and freedom that women enjoy here horrify and threaten the Greeks. Being a female in the Etruscan culture, I am proud to be an Etruscan because of the fact that we are known for how our culture treats women. Since our culture does not leave much documentation, my tomb must be used to provide an awareness and understanding of how we live our lives. My husband was able to achieve hegemony through the main activities of agriculture and metallurgy , eventually becoming known as a dignitary, making us a well known family and an important part of the aristocracy in the Etruscan society. The Role Of Anti-Semitism In Jewish Identity Anti Semitism played a significant role in shaping the Jewish identity specifically, the Anti Semitism that snowballed into the infamous events that were the actions of the Christian community and the Holocaust. Primary components of the Jewish identity were unwelcomingly sculpted by the hands of those who participated in Anti Semitism; the Anti Semite way of thinking created effects on Jews from years ago that seem to have translated to the Jewish identity of the modern day. The article associated with the video defines Anti Semitism as prejudice against or hatred of Jews. The first event of the two involved Christianity alienating the Jewish community. They ostracized Jewish people in every regard and made up lies about them. In turn, the Jews attempted to assimilate this assimilation a result of the Jewish identity being a product of Anti Semitism. It catches the intrusions in terms of the characteristics of known attacks or system vulnerabilities. This IDS analyzes information it gathers and compares it to a database of known attacks, which are identified by their individual signatures. The rules are pre defined. Anomaly based IDS This IDS models define the baseline to describe normal state of network or host. Any activity outside baseline is considered to be an attack i.e. it detects any action that significantly deviates from the normal behavior. The primary strength is its ability to recognize novel attacks. The drawback is that it assumes that intrusions will be accompanied by manifestations that are sufficiently unusual so as to permit detection. These generate many false alarms as well and hence compromise the effectiveness of the IDS. Network based IDS This IDS looks for attack signatures in network traffic via a promiscuous interface. Galileo Galilei established the Law of Inertia, invented the telescope, and perfected the Scientific Method. Isaac Newton made stellar revelations in physics and calculus. Finally, Benjamin Franklin made advances in technology. He invented gadgets such as bifocals, the odometer, and the lightning rod. Along with these wise men, William Harvey s discovery greatly affected the people of his time, and still does to this day. William Harvey, a British doctor, stated that blood pumped by the heart circulates throughout the entire body. William Harvey was the oldest of nine children. Because of this, doctors and surgeons would practice bloodletting. Bloodletting was the withdrawal of large amounts of blood in a specific body part in order to get disease or infection out of an ill patient s system. This practice was not safe and ended in many deaths. William Harvey s discovery allowed sick patients to get safe, correct treatment. It also gave doctors a deeper understanding of the human body and the knowledge to improve medicine. The involvements of clean and renewable energy development for diminishing gender discrimination in poor communities in Bangladesh. Tanjina Laila1*, Hossain Mohammad Talebull Islam2 1Student, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, 4349, Bangladesh. 2M.Eng. in Information Technology, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, 60318 Frankfurt am Main, Germany. *Email: tanjina.laila@gmail.com Abstract: Historically, the participation of women of Bangladesh in energy sector is negligible. The gender analysis shows that energy poverty is a gender biased poverty because poor women suffers much for electricity and modern energy services. In rural area, people depend on inherent traditional energy sources like wood, straw, kerosene and cow dung for cooking and indoor lightening which are very inefficient and unhealthy especially for women and children remaining at home who are frequently exposed to air pollution due to this. Now it is a new challenge to replace these unhealthy energy sources with environment friendly energy sources. The objective of this paper is to co relate the gender equality and clean source of energy i.e. renewable energy. This paper concludes that though there is no pure technological solution achieving gender equality and women s empowerment, in the light of the social context of rural Bangladesh where women are discriminated can have full access to clean energy source and modern technology which will ... The second criterion, or intrusive recollection, includes symptoms that are distinctive and easily identified of PTSD. These emotions manifest in daytime fantasies, traumatic nightmares, and psychotic reenactments know as flashbacks. The third criteria, avoidant/numbing, consists of symptoms that reflect behavioral, cognitive, or emotional strategies the PTSD patients use in an attempt to reduce the likelihood that they will expose themselves to trauma related stimuli. The fourth criteria, hyper arousal, most closely resembles those seen in panic and generalized anxiety disorders. While symptoms such as insomnia and irritability are generic anxiety symptoms, hyper vigilance and startle are more characteristic of PTSD. The fifth criteria, duration, specifies how long symptoms must persist in order to qualify for a PTSD diagnosis. This chapter explains an overview of related theories, which are the pragmatics theory by George Yule including the Grice s cooperative principle and kinds of maxim according to Grice. 2.1 Pragmatics According to Yule (1996), pragmatics is concerned with the study of meaning as communicated by a speaker (or writer) and interpreted by a listener (or reader). Pragmatics focuses more on how we achieve meaning in a particular context, by considering such factors as how, where and when something is said, who says it, what is the relationship between the speaker and the listener, and how we understand the use of ambiguous language (Baker and Ellece, 2011, p.100). He became upset that made him say something which is blatantly untrue. So, the speaker blatantly fails to observe a maxim in order to lead the hearer to look for implied meaning or in this situation the hearer already knows that Mark says the opposite. 2.1.2.3 Flouting Maxim of Relation Thomas (1996) said that the maxim of relation is exploited by making a response or observation which is very obviously irrelevant to the topic in hand (p.70). Drug policy of Canada has traditionally favoured punishment of the smallest of offenders, but this convention was partially broken in 1996 with the passing of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Canadian employers saw the Chinese immigrants as a source of cheap labour, and the government viewed opium consumption as another way to gain revenue, imposing a tax on opium factories in 1871. However, with the decline of the gold rush in the 1880s resentment towards the Chinese grew, as unemployed Canadians could not compete with cheap Chinese labour.[3] Additionally, Japanese immigration to Canada began to rise sharply, resulting in demonstrations against Asian labour. • 19. Online Shopping Disadvantages Many of people do their shopping online because it is convenient, cost effective, and offers more selection of products rather than going into a physical brick and mortar store. Seemingly, the only downside is the shipping time, but the real cost is that it is gradually killing off local businesses such as the mom and pop shops, department stores, and also shopping malls. These physical stores provide tax base and jobs within their communities. Online retailers largely have minimal overhead, and drive prices down lower than what most brick and mortar stores can bare. Online sales have many economic benefits that brick and mortar stores don t have, which has created an environment where online entities thrive while unintentionally causing their brick and mortar counterparts to fail in many cases. Online retail shopping has grown dramatically over the past years; more and more, people are relying on their fingertips to do the shopping rather than using their legs. Barbara Mantel, a writer for the CQ Research states that, online shopping has grown fourfold since 2002 and now accounts for about 10 percent of discretionary retail spending in the United States. (par. 1). If people continue shop online, it will continue the pressure on and tension between brick and mortar and online stores, resulting in more failures of brick and mortar stores. An example of this growth is that the number of consumers spent shopping with their smartphones jumped 385 percent between February 2010 and February 2013 says Mantel. (par. 14). This number is proving that online retailers are gaining momentum, whereas the mom and pop shops are declining. Many stores are already feeling the effects of online shopping. Big department stores like Sears, Kmart, Macy s, and J.C. Penney have filed bankruptcy. According to The Independent, about 300 retail businesses went bust just between January and June of this year. Online shopping isn t the only reason that they re closing down, but it does play a significant role in their closing. Therefore, the impoverished Irish rented their land out from the wealthier owners who resided miles and miles away. The twisted version of laissez faire that had corrupted the government was so normal and such a popular opinion, that they were accumsed to the prominent wrongs the leaders were invoking on the Irish people. This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. The Death Of The Indian Independence Movement The Right to Life Leader of the Indian independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, It seems to me as clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime (Gandhi, Mahatma). Yet federal law in the United States has given women the right to kill their unborn children through the Roe v. Wade ruling of 1973. In the years since, over 58,000,000 American children have lost their lives without even having the chance to protect themselves. In 2015 alone, 1,058,400 children were killed by abortion in the United States, and 43,800,000 worldwide. The war against children of abortion is the bloodiest in world history (Abortions in America). The Declaration of Independence declares life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness inalienable human rights. If the Supreme Court takes this right from the unborn, why not others? Abortion should be illegal in America for the following reasons: first, the obvious point at which to understand human life s origin is conception, not birth; second, in depriving human beings of life, the Roe v. Wade ruling is itself unconstitutional; finally, abortion has medical, psychological and spiritual effects on others beyond the child being deprived of life. I did get a little hope when I saw a new gadget the police took out, I remembered watching a show about it just before I came to Venus. Police would hook it up to the warehouse s main computer, the device would get as much information as it could on the employees, then it would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets and the dark waters of the Liffey... Here and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, spasmodically, like dogs barking on lone farms. Liam O Flaherty starts the story off with a strong sense of detail, and it immediately emerges the reader into the story and makes them envision being in Dublin at the time of the war. Halfway throughout the story, the sniper gets shot. The author uses sensory details to create an image that makes the reader envision the actual pain the character is battling against. Then taking out his field dressing, he ripped open the packet with his knife. He broke the neck of the iodine bottle and let the bitter fluid drip into the wound. A paroxysm of pain swept through him. He placed the cotton wadding over the wound and wrapped the dressing over it. He tied the ends with his teeth. When the author emerges the reader into the story, it makes them able to relate to the agony the sniper is in, which contributes back to the mood. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Miles Dollar Tree Miles and Snow have produced a typology of business level strategies. Their typology involves four strategic types: defenders, prospectors, analyzers and reactors. Using Miles and Snow s strategy typology that consist of; defender, analyzer, reactor, and prospector, I will categorize Dollar Tree in its strategy typology. In the first strategy defenders try to carve a niche in the market where stability can be found. As in the prospector strategy, companies are constantly producing innovations. I understand through Miles and Snow typology of business level strategies that defenders, analyzers, and prospectors are forms of organizations. Therefore, if an alignment is reached between a chosen strategy, and organizational structure mentioned above Dollar Tree has the potential to be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, a non alignment between strategy and structure, will affect Dollar Tree revealing that it is an ineffective competitor in the industry, known as the reactor strategy. In my opinion, I would categorize Dollar Tree as a analyzer. The organization has both characteristics of defender and prospector. Retail environments are more competitive today. And Dollar Tree top competitors are Wal Mart and Target. Sam Walton opened the first Wal Mart in 1962. Walton wanted to market American made products at a price lower enough to meet foreign competition. Wal Mart is the largest discount retailer in the world, which typically provides a grocery store and automotive repair shop for its customers. The major reason behind the success of Wal Mart lies in the fact that the company believes and concentrates on the strategy of single business, which means more than 95% of ... Total Phenolic Content of Red and White Grape Juice Determining Total Phenolic Content of Grape Juice using Visible Spectrophotometry Formal Food Analysis Laboratory Report February 7, 2013 By Carla Reed Lab partner: Nina Jung Total Phenolic Content of Grape Juice using Visible Spectrophotometry Abstract The health benefits of red wine are well known and consumption has been encouraged more over the years because of the populations increasing obesity rates and the inherent complications thereof; including coronary heart disease and high blood pressure. Since the phenolic compounds in wine combats these negative effects and originate from the grape itself the focus of this study was the total phenolic content in red and white grape juice; measured in gallic acid equivalents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concentrations of total phenolic compounds are written in Gallic Acid Equivalents (GAE) in units of milligrams of gallic acid per 100 milliliters of juice. Educational institutes frown upon buying students alcohol, even for scientific purposes, so white and red grape juices were used in this experiment rather than wine to determine the total phenolic content by visible spectrophotometery. Objective The overall objective of this experiment is to measure the total phenolics content in grape juice using a standard curve to find the sample s phenolic concentration in milligrams of gallic acid equivalent for every 100 milliliters of juice. Materials and Methods This experiment used the Gilson pipetman Neo, Genesys 20 spectrophotometer, Folin Ciocalteu s phenol reagent, saturated Na2CO3 solution as well as the requisite test tubes, volumetric flasks, analytical scale and graduated cylinder necessary to obtain accurate results. The first step required the preparation of the gallic acid stock solution. This was made by quantitatively transferring 80 milligrams of gallic acid into a 250 mL volumetric flask, dissolving it into solution by using 50 mL methanol, bringing it up to volume with deionized water and mixing the solution vigorously. The final concentration of the stock solution should be approximately 320 µg/mL, depending on the mass of gallic acid measured. The working solutions that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Immigration And The Immigration Act Of 1903 Introduction Immigration to the US has always been a complex phenomenon involving the development of different people from different nations, cultures, and has added to the United State s rich history. Immigration has brought both benefits and consequences to the United States in forms of economic stability and opportunity, mass settlements of foreign peoples, but also culture clash all resulting in the US attempt to curb immigration with the passing of several legislations. Many attempts to curb immigration were taken by US Congress with the passing of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, and the Immigration Act of 1903; all used to insure specific laws and boundaries set on immigrants. Heavy resentment against immigrants in the US pushed Congress for limitations that brought many tensions against races like the Irish and Chinese. To capture the true essence of immigration and its responses by the State, one must make a critical effort in analyzing the historical patterns of migration to the New World, including the United States. It begins with colonial America when large populations of people, mainly English, French, German, and Spanish migrated to America with a deliberate intent to exploit the people, land, and resulting in the creation of caste system of subjugation. This first set of immigrants to America would be later considered as Old Immigrants, being differentiated from New Immigrants that would later come in time. As a result of the conquest of Mexico, ... The Quest for Nirvana in Siddhartha The Quest for Nirvana in Siddhartha In Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, leave their sheltered lives as Brahmins, Hindu priests, to be Samanas, ascetics who deny themselves all pleasure. Some years after, they meet the Buddha, whom Govinda stays with to be a monk while Siddhartha leaves to continue on his own adventures. Toward the end of their lives, they meet again at a river bank and discover if they have truly achieved inner peace. Hesse uses Govinda as a contrast to Siddhartha. As displayed in excursions with the Samanas, with the Buddha, and on other adventures, Siddhartha is a character who is more independent and must learn on his own while Govinda is more dependent and feels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his article, Koester describes Hesse s approach to youthfulness as no more than the tortured development of individuality, wondering if this is derived from Hesse s own rebellious childhood. Esther Gropper talks of the typical mental development as a three stage process, which Hesse uses frequently. The first, typically young childhood, is characterized by respect and happiness. The second, after the person is introduced to good and evil, is characterized by despair and loneliness. The third is encountered when the person is able to separate himself or herself from the pain of reality to realize pure thought. Gropper also notes that Siddhartha is so popular among the young because the characters suffer loneliness and despair before realizing their place in the world by discovering more about themselves. Hans Beerman Siddhartha feels he must discover this purpose to life on his own, whereas Govinda feels he can learn it by listening to and following the doctrines of others. It is noted in the beginning of the story that Govinda and Siddhartha are two young Brahmins who are quite intelligent and already debate the aspects of their religion with adults. However, Siddhartha already begins his questioning of the traditional beliefs. He begins to wonder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
