Hebrew Bible Identity
The origin of the Hebrew Bible is unknown, but scholars believe the earliest collections of writings
first five books date back to nearly 3,500 years ago. The Pentateuch consist of these first five books.
The Old Testament, which it is also known as, influenced its time period and still continues to do so
today. The exile of the Judean people led their scholars to preserve their cultural identity through the
Hebrew Bible s usage of chiasm, repetition, and kinesthetic imagery. Each literary device was
designed so the audience could memorize the details and elite could easily pass down the stories
orally. In a society where only the professional elite read and wrote, The Bible was written down in a
series of years by a serious of these elites. It is believed to be written after the Babylonian Captivity.
The Judean people were first exiled to Babylon, and forced to assimilate into a society with a whole
other creation myth. The people of Judah were uprooted from their homes and forced to a new land,
Babylon. However, the exile ended at approximately 538 BCE when Cyrus The Great conquered
Persia and released the Jews back to Palestine. Upon return, scholars believe the first words of The
Bible were written. The first words were written because in times of grief and despair, religious
growth follows. So, when the Jews from Babylon returned home, a sense of spiritual renewal occurred
which forced the hands of scribes to document their faith, (Barton 369).

Modern Media And Technology Conditions The Public Mind
More than ever before, technology has infused itself into our everyday life and tasks. As our dominant
mean of obtaining any information possible at any time you desire, it is an irrefutable fact that modern
media and technology conditions the public mind. How it does so, is not so obvious. Today s media
affects everyone, individually and as a general populace. Individually, medias such as Instagram,
Facebook, Tumblr, etc. change our perception of reality by presenting us versions of people that are
made to seem beyond the norm in some way; outrageously beautiful, unique, talented, etc.on a regular
basis. These repeated ideals of what the norm should be or what should be desired creates a warped
perception of reality.(Enzenberg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a consequence, people associate their best self with their digital identity, who ultimately isn t who
they are ,causing a drastic disconnect from one s actual self and who they are online. This disconnect
causes an internal dissatisfaction with every aspect of ourselves that turns into something much worse
than just a low self esteem. Anxiety, depression, and addiction have all been results of this, as proven
with the BFAS Berge Facebook Addiction Scale and Facebook Depression .(Jennifer Van Pelt, MA)
Furthermore, there is power in repetition and how it affects the subconscious mind incredibly. The idea
of what qualifies as desirable is incessantly forced into our minds by television, magazines, etc. Thus
the images portrayed are normalized. As in, this is the normal idea of what beautiful, the normal idea
of what talent is,this is what you want or who you want to be like ,etc. Thigh gaps, accentuated
muscles, and such have become such a common and relied on application that even those who are
praised by common people, for example: Beyonce, fall subject to the image and socially accepted idea
of beauty and what should be desired. However, when watching television or flipping through a
magazine, it goes unnoticed that a majority of these people do not look like

Summary Of Margaret Atwood s Oryx And Crake
Oryx and Crake is a unique novel written by Margaret Atwood. It explores the United States, before
and after the entire human race is wiped out by a viral infection, through the eyes of a man named
Snowman who, before the outbreak, is known as Jimmy. While in high school, Jimmy meets another
boy named Glenn and the two became friends. They bond over weird hobbies including watching an
array of things ranging from open heart surgeries to pornography and online games. One day Glenn
and Jimmy need codenames for a game they are playing together. Glenn picks Crake for himself and it
stuck as his nickname for the rest of his life. After high school, the two boys went their separate ways.
Crake ends up creating a pill called BlyssPluss, which leads to the death of mankind, and his own
human like species that were named Crakers. Crake ends up dying and leaves the mess he created in
Jimmy s hands. This includes the Crakers. In this paper I argue that Jimmy truly cares about the
Crakers like a parent because of his miserable upbringing by his. Jimmy s mom left him and his dad
behind one day. Not only did she trash Jimmy s father s computer, but she took Killer, Jimmy s pet
rakunk and only companion, with her too. Atwood describes Jimmy s response, Jimmy had mourned
for weeks. No, for months. (Atwood, 61). Jimmy probably viewed his mother as the one person that
would always be there no matter what and is not supposed to hurt him, so when she did the opposite of
those two things,

Essay On How Did The North s Industry Lead To Northern...
To What Extent did the North s Industry lead to Northern Victory? The North s industrial dominance
was a major factor of why the won the war as it was an underlying factor to the other aspects of how
they won. Through the North s industrial prominence it allowed them to be a much more versatile and
flexible army through transportation, population and financial supremacy. The Northern industry
allowed them to produce war goods and to be an independent economy, which had a major play to
their success in the war. The lack of emphasis on manufacturing and commercial interest, stemming
from the Southern desire to preserve their traditional agricultural society, disadvantaging themselves
to the North and their ability to function independently. It was neither Northern troops nor generals
that won the Civil War, rather Northern guns and industry. Northern states produced 97% of firearms
in the US which allowed war materials to be much more accessible and productive to produce as the
North already had these large factory s, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

tariffs and printing paper money with no specie to back it up causing the Southern dollar to plummet
and made overseas countries reluctant to loan money to a failing economy. This made it to expensive
for the South to import goods from overseas and forced them to rely on the booming Northern

Preludes
Preludes TS Eliot Relevant Background • Thomas Stearns [TS] Eliot was born in into a wealthy
family in St Louis, Missouri, America in 1888 • He became a British citizen at the age of 39 in 1927.
• His father was president of a brick making company. His mother wrote poetry and was once a
teacher and social volunteer. They were determined to educate Thomas well. • TS Eliot s awareness
of how differently some people lived inspired a lot of the descriptions found in ‘Preludes . •
Through the work of his mother and grandfather TS Eliot became aware of poverty and the boring
reality of peoples lives. • In 1917 he published ‘Preludes . ‘Preludes consists of four short poems,
numbered I, II, III and IV. • Some say that in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or it may be the cab driver. Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the ‘you of the poem, as she
stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. • It might be helpful to regard this poem, like the
others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening. Eliot used words as
his way of painting the picture. • The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. • Residents, living
probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are
probably all workers living in flats. The word ‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned
into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. • By
linking the scene here with the ‘stale smells of beer and ‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of
‘Prelude II and the ‘thousand sordid images of ‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are
set in a red light district of a city. • The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is
beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because
people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out
. Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? • The weather is bad; a windy
shower beats on the buildings and on the horse outside. The cold rain evaporates as steam off the
horse s back. • It is early winter as the

Essay about Seal Hunting in Atlantic Canada
The annual hunt of harp seals (Pagophilus groenlandicus) in Atlantic Canada is contested at the start
of nearly every season, with celebrities, politicians, and the public actively weighing in on the matter.
Within all of the dialogue and debate, there can be a lot of bias and misrepresentation of facts
advocating for or against the seal hunt. Thus, the true sustainable aspects of the industry are drowned
out and lost due to the sheer amount of controversy surrounding the issue. Sustainability entails
meeting the needs of today without sacrificing the needs of the future ( Sustainable Development 1).
The concept of sustainable resource development involves support pillars that represent economics,

Contemporary dishes like seal flipper pie have also contributed to the cultural identity of
Newfoundland society. As a result of these strong cultural ties, commercial and subsistence sealing
continues to exist through legal policy by demand from both government and society. The policies that
govern seal hunting are based on a sustained yield principle that does not compromise the harvest for
future generations, and are thus in accordance with sustainable aspects of resource development.
Economic benefits gained from the seal hunt include an increase in trading relationships for Canada
and the stimulation of the provincial economy of Newfoundland and Labrador. As reported by the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the total landed value of the seal harvest for 2006 was $34.3
million dollars ( Market 1). This figure represents a historic high, when market prices per pelt were
favourable. Regardless, the money brought in from seal hunting is said to have a trickle down effect
on other sectors of the economy ( Market 1). Canada has historically been the leading exporter of seal
products in the global marketplace, and had exported over $70 million in product between 2005 and
2011 ( Market 1) Nationally, the seal hunt has enabled Canada to forge new trading relationships in
the international community, as evidenced by a 2011 deal between Canada and China. The

Similarities Between Abraham Lincoln And Abraham Lincoln
During the Civil War era, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas were two figures that changed
America forever. They became two of the most influential people of their time. Through their
powerful and motivating speeches, they were able to change the minds of Americans and help to
improve society and the welfare of the people. Douglas fought for black civil rights through
compelling speeches, while Lincoln spoke more calmly and peacefully for unity with the Confederate
states. Both men had very different goals but had the same motivation to achieve a better America for
all. Lincoln was born on a farm to a very poor family and had very little schooling. However, he rose
from very humble beginnings to become the 16th president of the United States shortly before the
beginning of the Civil War. His fame comes mostly from leading the country through the Civil War
and changing the thinking of the American people at that time. He is a self taught lawyer, who was
also a shrewd military strategist and savvy leader. Lincoln is known and recognized for the
Emancipation Proclamation. It helped pave the way for the abolition of slavery. Lincoln was a noble
man. He was known as honest Abe when he practiced law. When he spoke he stood still and kept his
hands behind his back. He used his words very cautiously but spoke with conviction and motivation.
He was always very positive, hoping for a reconciliation between the states. Lincoln s distinctively

made it clear you have to live life by your own terms and you have to not worry about what other
people think and have the courage to do the unexpected (Caroline Kennedy quotes, page 1).
Jacqueline, known as Jackie, is one of the most well known women of the 1900 s. Showcasing her
strong will and grace from an early age, she inspired many people while serving as First Lady and

The Marriage Of Arranged Marriage
For Better or for Worse My parents had a choice to marry for love, but, unfortunately, their parents did
not. Imagine the world where family members or close friends chose your spouse based on their
expectations. Should this be the way to go about marriage, or does this hinder a person s ability to live
for themselves? In India alone, around 90% of marriages are arranged by their families (CNN). They
would choose who ever they believe would best fit the person, but not necessarily love them
(Queano). Although arranged marriage is a custom in many countries, is it the right thing to do?
People deserve the right to choose for themselves whom they will marry. Marriage is about love and
finding the right person that makes you the happiest, rather than someone who s just there for your
benefit. According to Asia Pacific Economic Blog:
An arranged marriage is one where the families have pre decided on a spouse for the child. The two
people getting married often do not know each other, and have no choice in the matter. It is a highly
traditional practice in many Indian and Asian cultures, and has been practiced for centuries. The
debate on this issue is difficult because the views differ greatly depending on your culture. (Economic
Blog )
We the people of America have the freedom to make our own decisions. Unfortunately, this is not the
case for many people worldwide. These people are limited to the choices they are allowed to make. I
believe marriage is a very important stage

Water Shortage in Central California
Central Valley Water Shortage
1. Fresno is a city located in central California, also known as San Joaquin Valley Famously knows for
its grape field and green trees. Known for where the immigrants came to work, by picking grapes
making little to know money. Every year I go back to visit my home town about twice a year, each
time we get near the grape vine which is located between Fresno and Las Angeles. The first thing that
is noticed by the eye is the magnificent greenery and farm lands that can t be passed without notice of
its beauty. Every tree was full and rich looking to the roots and all around the ground would look
moist and fully watered, without a doubt these farm lands where being taken care of. Recently in the
past three years of taking the long exhausting drive from the dry lands of Tucson to the green lands of
Fresno hasn t been the same. The green lands of central valley are not as green as they once were. The
grounds look dry and not as moist as before.

The Food Security Is Defined By The World Health...
Food security is defined as when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food
to maintain a healthy and active life (The World Food Summit 1996, quoted by The World Health
Organization 2015). Thus food insecurity is any situation that deviates from this definition. The
research for this report was carried out in Todmorden, West Yorkshire and focused on Incredible
Edible, a local food growing and campaigning group. The organisation is run by volunteers, and their
aim is to provide access to good local food for all (Incredible Edible Todmorden 2015). This is done
mainly through their food to share (also know as eating the street ) initiative, where they have adopted
small, communal areas of land through out Todmorden to grow herbs, fruit and vegetables which is
managed and grown by volunteers and is free for anyone to pick. They also focus on education about
the issues surrounding food insecurity in the UK and the local area. The key stakeholders involved in
our research are Mary Clear and Estelle Brown, the leading figures in Incredible Edible. Mary is a co
founder of the project. From it s beginning in Todmorden the movement has now expanded worldwide
and there are between 50 and 100 independent Incredible Edible groups in Britain and many more
around the world (Incredible Edible Network 2012).

In the poem Snow by David Berman, it has a unique setting to it sorta. They re two characters, David
and his little brother, Seth. David in his poem talks about how he explains to his brother about how
snow angels are made. Also why they re made that way instead of him just telling his brother the
actual truth.
The setting is in the winter there is no time. However, it was outside in the field near some water
which was frozen. The setting is significant because the poem is called snow. Plus it talks about snow
angels which again involves snow. Snow only happens in the winter which should tell you the setting
is winter. Not only that but they say in the poem the water was frozen which is also another way of
saying it s winter. Water freezes

Marketing And Competitive Analysis Of London Sports Games
sales are bound to increase, further running the economy. As the majority of students do not have a lot

SOCIAL:
Attending sports games is a very social activity that people tend to do in groups rather than alone, this
is very beneficial to our marketing campaign as for every person we market too, a small group finds
out about the event. By increasing attendance, we are generating a social hub which will be appealing
for people considering attending due to a fun atmosphere. Furthermore, as young adults tend to post

already have a very large and loyal following. With successful marketing in this target market, Morton
should focus his attention on ensuring that alumni continue to return yearly by offering new events to

Upper year students: Upper year students make up the large majority of the Western population, but as
they are further in their education they have reached a point where their education is their priority.
Despite having less disposable income, as upper year students will be going out less often (due to their
busy schedules), they will be more willing to spend money on a more luxury night.
First year students: With 4566 first year students they are the longest term potential clients, and are
arguably the most social. First year students living in residence are often likely to attend events in
large groups , there s also a large concentration of these students in just 9 buildings. Also, these
students often have to purchase food on a daily basis and tend to have the most disposable income.

Essay On No Exit
No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre is a play about three characters in hell. Joseph Garcin, Inez Serrano, and
Estelle Rigault committed a sin when they were alive on Earth. Now, they are stuck in hell together in
one room. Garcin, Inez, and Estelle don t know each other and meet for the first time in the room.
They are suspicious of each other as to why they were placed in the same room together. They are not

them having different personalities, they clash and become the perfect torturers for each other in hell.
Joseph Garcin used to be a journalist and ran a pacifist newspaper. Garcin s death was caused by 12

Persuasive Essay On Bathroom Laws
For several years now the topic of bathroom regulations have filled the news and social media. Their
are people for and against the changes in bathroom laws. Conservatives hold to the mandate that each
gender should use their appropriate bathrooms. But when you come to the issue of people who are
transgender using the bathroom of their choice therein lies the rub.
The gay rights movement has used the demonstrations and tactics of those who marched with Dr. King
to support their stance on bathroom rights and other litigations. As time goes by states have developed
their own laws regarding gay rights. Several states have changed policies by where people who are
transgender can change their original documentation to include their new gender specific identity.
(Time| U.S.) However, despite the changes in law and the countless conversations about this topic,
there are still many people who are opposed to the law and desires of those who identify as being gay
and transgender. Concerns were raised that these new laws would only fan the already high crime rate
against women and children attacked by predators. If anyone can then gain access to whichever
bathroom they identified with, what safety would exist against those people who are predators? As
protest and debates continue regarding this issue, lawmakers working alongside the courts to clarify
what is considered discrimination and what is considered human rights.

The Life of the Famous English Painter, Sir John Everett...
Sir John Everett Millais was born on June 8, 1829 in Southampton, England to John William Millais
and Emily Marie Millais. Their family had a French background and were wealthy people in the
middle class, partly due to the fact that the mother s family were very successful saddlers, which are
people who were skilled at making saddles (Artmagick 1, Tate 1). When Millais was little he was
considered a child prodigy when it came to painting and his family moved to London in 1838 to
improve contacts with the Royal Academy (Tate 1). At the age of nine Millais was sent to Sass s Art
School, where he was awarded a silver medal at the Society of Arts. In 1840, Millais attended the
Royal Academy as their youngest student ever. At the Royal Academy, Millais would go on to receive
several medals for various paintings and drawings. He won a silver medal in 1843 for drawing of an
antique and a gold medal in 1847 for a painting he named The Tribe of Benjamin Seizing the
Daughter of Shiloh. His first exhibited work at the Royal Academy was Pizarro Seizing the Inca of
Peru in 1846, and it is now held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (Tate 1). At the Royal
Academy, Millais befriended William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel. These three artists contributed

A Comprehensive Assessment Of Economic Inequality And...
Martin Gilens provides a comprehensive assessment of the economic inequality and political power in
America. He explores on how the affluence of politicians influences the political setting of the
country. According to the author, political equality is considered as the philosophy of democracy. Due
to the inequalities that exist among the citizens regarding information, social and political affairs, it
would be impractical to anticipate equal influence over policy making. Nature and the degree of
representative inequalities depict the extent of democracy in a particular society. The author points out
that when the inequalities in the political influence intensify, democracy shifts into oligarchy, whereby
the wealthy few rule the society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article pinpoints the fact that it is difficult to disentangle the personal preferences of the
Congressional members from influences that could affect their behaviors in decision making. There is
no reliable technique of measuring the personal preferences of the representatives that are unaffected
by the demands presented by their constituents. Various scholars who have analyzed this scenario have
made efforts to assess the roles that are played by individual preferences through identifying some
individual characteristics that are related to the interests and preferences of the representative. For
instance, the personal wealth of the member might be linked with their economic policy preferences,
and the use of tobacco by the member may be linked to their tobacco legislation preferences.
Gilens also carried research on the professional histories of the representatives before their entrance to
the Congress. Unlike the previous assessment that the author had carried out about the economic
status, he found out that the histories of the members are related to their Congressional voting records.
Gilens also finds significant differences between the representatives and most of the conformist
professions. The author attributes the differences to the types of districts or the states that the authors
were elected from instead of any independent influence of their professional backgrounds. The article

Introduction The process by which Scripture has been preserved and compiled is one whose history is
worth noting. The early church had many opportunities to share the Good News of Christ via word of
mouth, but from the time of Christ s resurrection until the mid second century, there had not been a
single culmination of writings considered to be essential for the purposes of ... Show more content on

Marcion believed that the Jewish Scriptures only concerned the covenant between God and the Jews
of Israel, and therefore was no longer valid for the Christian church. In his mind, these were two very
separate Gods. When noticing that several of Paul s writings made mention of the God of Israel,
Marcion claimed that those writings were not Paul s original texts, and should be considered
counterfeit. Marcion s views of Paul s forged portions of his letters can be attributed to what many
theologians today might call the Slippery Slope Argument. In this case, Marcion chose not to trust in
the inerrancy of what God had spoken to Paul. Paul s writing s were flawed, or someone must have
tampered with them. This lack of trust in inerrancy would ultimately allow Marcion to fall down a
slippery slope , giving way to forsake other important Christian foundational truths. As his ideologies
became more widespread, it became obvious that Marcion s views on creation were radically
reinterpreted (or misinterpreted, better yet), as well as his opinions on the doctrines of incarnation and
the resurrection. Ultimately, the church at large came to the conclusion that his doctrines contradicted
several fundamental points in Christian doctrine. It forced the church to make a case for the value and
status of the Jewish scriptures it had adopted as its own, and it prompted

Cultures are what impact and shape the structure of a civilization. They are how the traditions, and
ways of life that a civilization would adapt to. In aspect of that, the artifacts of a civilization display
the changes the changing that have occurred through time. Granted that, artifacts are ways of
preserving the cultural history of a civilization and to show respect in regards to these hidden treasures
of knowledge.
With this in mind, would preserving the artifact would include exporting any artifacts back to the
region of origin? If so, what if the government or civilization might not properly take care of the
artifacts or if the museum is not secure enough for the artifacts to be returned?
In regards of those questions, the head of the Ministry of Culture of the People s Republic of China,
Luo Shugang has requested the return of two artifacts that currently reside at the Nelson Atkin
Museum of Art in Kansas City Missouri. The two artifacts in question are a ritual disk (bi) with
dragon motif from the Zhou dynasty, and a model of a house from the Han dynasty. These two
artifacts would be shipped and ultimately go to the Palace Museum of the Forbidden City, located in
Beijing China. In regards of Luo Shugang and the research done on the situation, I would have to
respectfully decline his request on concerns of standards of the museum, the risks involved of
transporting the artifacts, and the

The Rivalry Between Gene And Finny s Friendship
Keep your Friends Close and your Enemies Closer Set in 1942 during World War II, A Separate Peace
by John Knowles deals with the hostility between two best friends, Gene and Finny. Gene is a decent
athlete, and an extremely smart student. Finny, on the hand, is an extremely capable athlete, but an
average student. While the World War II is happening somewhere far from Devon, a personal war
driven by envy and jealousy is diverging their friendship. What started as a friendly competition
between the two, turns into a deadly rivalry. The rivalry between Gene and Finny starts because Gene
grows extremely jealous of Finny athletic abilities. This happens because of the expectations the war
has put on the young adolescents at Devon. Since Gene and his friends are expected to enlist for the
army anyway, Gene s intellectuality gets overlooked, and Finny s athletic abilities gets praised. Gene s

The spectrum of jealousy and envy shifts to Finny side. Finny offers to train Gene for the olympics,
and persuades him that the war is fabricated to cover his true motive. This is the part where the turn in
tables is noticed: Gene has now the athletic abilities over Finny, and Finny has the psychological hold
over him. This is also the part where Finny manifest his new jealousy towards Gene. He says I ll hate
everywhere if I am not in this war! Why do you think I kept saying there wasn t any war all winter? I
was going to keep on saying it .... After I got letter from Ottawa or Chunking or some place saying
Yes, you can enlist with us (190). Finny admits on his death bed that the only reason he made Gene
believe that there is no war is because he can t enlist to the army. He is jealous that Gene can join the
war, but he can t, as a result he did everything in his power to keep Gene away from the war. This is
the closure both Finny and Gene needed from a toxic

Need to Rehearse Your Lines in Book, A Challenge for the...
Introduction:
In this introduction, Hagen helps the actor by giving the reader nine questions to ask him or herself.
She created a few exercises to help the actors and actresses practice by themselves. She states that
when doing these exercises, to not look for interesting events and to use real props. She really stresses
the importance of rehearsing your lines.
Basic Object Exercises:
The way that you rehearse should be definite and concise. Practice a lot but when actually performing
it, act as if it was impulsive.
This text helped me to understand Hagen s form and approach to acting. Whenever I see people act on
TV, I think, wow! It sounds so easy to do what they do when matter of fact, acting is so hard.

It is easier to endow an object with physical and reachable attributes, as it is an object of difficult

Talking to Yourself
Be aware of when you talk to yourself normally.
The way that you talk to yourself is different than the way you talk to others, especially an audience.
You may be more confident and ready in front of yourself but less confident in front of others so
again, practicing, in front of a group of friends or audience can help you prepare better. It is still one of
my goals to be able to perform wonderfully in front of the class one day.
Outdoors
Explore being in different outdoor situations
Learn to watch what you do when you are on your own time and not really doing much
By exploring the realms outside of acting, you can really get a feel of what it feels like to be out of a
scene, or perhaps even in a scene. Noticing your behavior while doing nothing can really tell you how
you behave otherwise. Are you really quiet in person and really loud or obnoxious on stage? This
really made me think of who I was and made me wonder if I ever acted for a living, and if it were to at
all change who I was as an actor.
Conditioning Forces
Being able to put together three or more senses like heat, cold, pains, dark, etc.
Being able to walk into a scene

Why Do School Lunches Be Banned From Schools
Today one in five school aged children (ages 6 19) have obesity and people debate over how to
decrease this number and prevent it from being more of an issue in the future. School lunches are
often brought up in this discussion, some say that by getting rid of all junk food in schools would help
decrease the number of obese students and prevent them in future by providing only healthy food
options. On the other hand, they say that it s not that simple, the problems are at home and that getting
rid of these items could decrease revenues for school activities from those products.
Many people believe that junk food should be banned from schools across the nation. In fact, Carol
Duh Leong who was once on the board of Doctors of America found that, a slight reduction of as little
as 100 calories a day, for example from the removal of soda from children s diets could result in
weight loss. By getting rid of soda machines in schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They say child obesity is not the fault of school lunches, school meals are only consumed once a day,
meaning that the majority of meals are being eating at home and this makes what kids eat the
responsibility of the parents (Metallo). They feel that because more meals are consumed at home, they
effect on their weight is happening at home more than it is at school so it is the fault of the the child s
parents for their unhealthy habits. Another reason why people think they should not need to ban junk
food from schools is, schools that have began to get rid of vending machines have lost thousands of
dollars and found, funding things like athletics and schools activities became increasingly hard to pay
for (Rosenthal). In other words, vending machine revenues are often used for funding school
activities, if they were to be taken out of schools they would cause schools to lose fundings because
the contents of most vending machines are junk

Coal Is A Nonrenewable Fossil Fuel
It is clear that our country is approaching turmoil as the population continues to grow and our
dependence on electrical power increases. With limited economic resources at our disposal, we must
ensure that future power plants run on the same primary fuel. With that said, I hope you carefully
consider my recommendations, as they are essential in maintaining the current and future state of our
country. Although using coal as our primary energy resource has minor sociopolitical and scientific
complications, the strategies to address these problems and the social, political, scientific, and
economic advantages greatly outweigh the setbacks. While coal is a nonrenewable fossil fuel, it will
still provide our country enough energy to last over 20 years. Coal deposits in our country are
plentiful, making it a more readily available resource than natural gas or nuclear energy. Since we will
eventually extract the coal, it is logical to use it now to fuel our expanding economy. More
importantly, the method for extraction, mountaintop removal mining, is a generally safe approach that
presents nominal risks for workers. As a result, choosing coal as our country s primary fuel resource
will diminish sociopolitical backlash. In addition, coal proves to be extremely economically viable due
to its high yield factor, allowing it to produce high amounts of energy with minimal effort for
extraction. By using coal, we are saving the time and money needed to educate and teach citizens the

Rites Of Passage In Turyl Markham s Brothers Are The Same
Every person begins their life with birth and resolves with death, rites of passage help people feel
apart of society, where the changes are vast, amending both themselves as well as their society they
reside to. In Beryl Markham s short story, Brothers Are The Same , Temas, a sixteen year old boy in
the Masai tribe, dreams of achieving manhood through the killing of a lion, nevertheless in doing so,
he must show wholly no signs of fear. Remarkably, throughout Temas s ordeal, he fears failure and
disappointment, however, with the help of an olden enemy, Medoto, Temas not only succeeds his right
of passage though also originates a friend from an enemy. Similarly, in the movie, Tuck Everlasting,
directed by Jay Russell, an independence seeking girl, who goes by the name of Winnie, feels as
though she needs to be free, and seek each and every form of adventure in her life. Even so, Winnie
faces a difficult choice that will last a lifetime, and in the end, she chooses the right path and prevents
anyone to resolve the same mistake as a friend once made. Although Temas and Winnie face different
challenges from the influences being pushed upon them, both opt for decisions that change them each
into a superior version of themselves.
Be that as it may, if Temas fails his rite of passage, he will be marked a failure, whereas Winnie may
never fulfill a normal life. In Temas s tribe, all men had passed [the test]; all had earned the warriors

Welfare Spending During The United States
Welfare spending in the United States of America has been realizing negative effects on the economic
standing of American society as a whole, more specifically in terms of long term growth in poverty
rates and high levels of unemployment.
As of the report for fiscal year 2011, the total funds spent for the federal welfare programs amounted
to roughly $ 1.03 trillion. . . This excludes entitlement programs to which people contribute (e.g.
Social Security and Medicare) , according to Sessions, J. (2011, p.1). SS expenditures in 2011 was
$725 billion while for Medicare, it amounted to $ 480 billion. The analytical findings of Brady, D.(
2009, p.81) stated that As countries devote a larger share of their economy to welfare, poverty declines
steeply. This happened to Scandinavia, Finland, and Sweden, and European continental countries like
Netherlands and Belgium. USA was identified to have high poverty and low welfare expenses. He also
made clear that poverty is not necessarily increased by higher welfare generosity.(p.84) and further
says that it benefits all rather than just the elderly or men (p.87). The 5 features of welfare state were
historically proven to reduce poverty through greater generosity with (1) social welfare expenditures,
(2) expenditures for public health, (3) social security, (4) government expenditures, and (5)
decommodification (p.91). Brady, D. (p.92) also contends that public employment is less effective
than welfare state generosity as a

Archbasilica Essay
The Archbasilica of St. John Lateran is the home of the current Pope and one of the most important
buildings in Rome. This Christian cathedral was originally constructed for Pope Miltiades in the early
4th century over the remains of the old fort of the Castra Nova Equites Singualres. Emperor
Constantine built this church in 324 AD, making it the oldest basilica in Rome. This cathedral went
through many reconstructions throughout its history due to earthquakes and fires. Its façade was
designed by architect Alessandro Galilei, and it was completed in 1735. Pope Clement XII held a
competition for a new design of the façade in 1732 to replace the mediaeval one, and Galilei was
chosen because he was an anti Baroque forerunner of the neoclassical architectural movement. Galilei
had already been involved in the neo Palladian architectural movement in England and Ireland, and
architect Christopher Wren s work in London was a major influence on him. In designing the new
façade, he removed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its characteristics include its grand scale, dramatic use of columns, and its simplicity of geometric
scale. Its façade is the most well known part of the building. The two story portico on the church s
front façade was constructed in the 1700 s. On the very top lies statues of of Jesus, Saint John the
Baptist, Saint John the Evangelist, and other Doctors of Greek and Latin churches, made by sculptors
of the late baroque era. The central doors are composed of bronze and were previously used at the
Roman Senate House within the Roman Forum.
Criticism
Although its façade is the most well known aspect of the basilica, it is also the most criticized part. It
is often said by many critics that the main face of the basilica is more like that of a palace than a
church. Many people consider it too palace like without any of the flourishes expected of the Baroque
period in which it was

The Never-Ending Cycle In George Orwell s Animal Farm
The Never Ending Cycle
Sara Moehring
Like animals to the slaughter. This phrase has been used since biblical times, describing an
unconcerned manner unaware of an impending catastrophe. Perhaps there is some relation to George
Orwell s Animal Farm? Was this intentional? In this dark fairy tale, George Orwell describes a mid
20th century farm in England that has been taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. The
humans are replaced by pigs, who eventually end the cycle worse than it began. The animals chased
out a tyrant, just so they could be repressed by a power just as terrible. The worst thing was, that they
couldn t fight back. They lacked the education and knowledge required to defend their basic rights.

happened with communism, as Stalin left much of the country penniless and helpless, and put people

Idiocracy Analysis
Idiocracy For a movie that had almost no marketing done for it and was released in theaters in only six
cities, Mike Judge s Idiocracy, released in 2006, has become an extremely successful movie. Fox sat
on the movie for over a year before finally releasing it in theaters. It didn t even have so much as a
movie trailer or an official movie poster. When Idiocracy did finally hit the theaters, the movie was
only shown for two weeks. And shortly after that it went right to DVD, still without much marketing
at all. A movie treated like that is usually because it s not any good, but in spite of all that Idiocracy
has become a cult classic and is known as one of Mike Judge s best creations. If you are a fan of any
of Mike Judge s other work like Office Space, Beavis and Butt head or Daria then you will definitely
enjoy Idiocracy. It does not hold back on any of the satirical humor that Judge is known for. It pokes
fun at society and how it can feel like we re getting dumber. It also targets large corporations and how
they re growing and controlling more and more of people s everyday lives. If you were never a fan
Beavis and Butthead and couldn t get over how incredibly stupid the two boys were, than this movie
may not be for you. Judge uses this similar low brow humor to make his point about different flaws in
society and exaggerate some of the effects it could have on the future.
Idiocracy takes a different look at your usual future dystopia than we usually see. Instead of a
technologically advanced intelligent society or a post apocalyptic wasteland we see more of a dumbed
down corporate ran society. The idea is that while all of the intelligent people were having less kids so
they can focus on creating things and contributing to society, the dumber people were off making lots
of children. After years of this, it eventually leads to the whole world becoming filled with stupid
people. Joe Bauers is chosen for a military experiment because he is the most average guy the army
has to offer, along with Rita, a prostitute who works for a pimp named Upgrayedd. The two of them
are put into hibernation for what was supposed to be only a year. But unfortunately when the
experiment becomes forgotten about and the

Questions On The Theoretical Lens
Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of assumptions
made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background, and religion. This
concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things will be and turn out to
be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand things based on the set of
theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In child development, theoretical
lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society views the progress of its future
generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the theoretical lens are often rejected, which
can cause distress to those individuals who are not conforming to these expectations. Different
countries have different assumptions about how the world works and the role that each individual
plays in it. These individuals, such as children, across the globe have different expectations from
society based on the region s theoretical lens. For example the main issues facing young people in
India will be the school versus work, the tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and
the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004) The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from
those found in the United States for young people. The culture difference is key in how new
generations will develop in accordance to societies expectations. A young person in

Igbo Culture
Simplicity can be observed throughout daily life. While easier to see in some cultures, daily life in
Igbo culture is more simple than other cultures. The Igbo culture shows simplicity through the many
traditions and customs in their culture. In the novel Things Fall Apart and research on the modern day

continues to show that today. First off, like other cultures, the culture is full of ideas and beliefs. These

The Fourth Amendment And Fifth Amendment
The three amendments that are used to protect the rights of those accused of a crime include, the
Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment protects the right of people to be secure
in their persons, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures. (Peak, 2015, p.181).
The Fifth Amendment protects the accused against self incrimination, double jeopardy, and life,
liberty, and property. Meaning no person will be forced to be a witness against themselves, they
cannot be tried for the same offense twice, and their right to life, liberty, and property are protected
under the law. (Peak, 2015, p.193). The Sixth Amendment is the right to counsel. Any person who is
accused of a crime has the right to counsel for their defense, a speedy and public trial by an impartial
jury, to be informed of the nature of their crime which also includes Miranda rights, and to be
confronted with the witness against him/her while also having witnesses of their own. (Peak, 2015,
p.195). These three Amendments in summary mean to me, that any person who is accused of a crime
is innocent until proven guilty and their rights are just as important as anyone else. They have the
natural born right to have their rights as citizens protected under the law, and ensure fair treatment
from law enforcement officers. In 1993, the Supreme Court ruled a decision on the court case,
Minnesota v. Dickerson. This court case is a following case of the original Terry v. Ohio in 1968, the

The Cause And Effects Of The Chernobyl Disaster In 1986
Have you ever imagined the end of the Earth? Let s take the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 for example,
and look at how the explosion affected some parts of the world. Large areas were affected by the
Chernobyl explosion. Many things and properties were destroyed because of this. People, animals, and
plants were affected by the explosion and it made many suffer. It took many people to begin cleaning
up the mess, and they got sick. There is still a lot of damage there. It s very scary to know that an
accident like this could occur again. A large area was affected by the explosion of Chernobyl. The
bigger main areas that were really affected were Ukraine, parts of Russia, Europe, and Belarus.
Ukraine was where the Chernobyl power plant was located so that was the area that was really
affected. The gases spread to Russia, Europe and Belarus. It covered only most of Russia and Ukraine.
It wrecked over 63,000 square miles and was mostly located in rural areas. In Ukraine there were gas
exposures, devoured properties, and fire exposure. The fire exposure was what was still burning after
the explosion, and a lot was fires that affected people. There were a lot of lapland animals dead from
the outcome of the explosion, that were breathing in the gases and chemicals or that got injured from
the explosion who have died. The gas exposure is the toxic chemicals getting outside in the air and the

  • 2. Hebrew Bible Identity The origin of the Hebrew Bible is unknown, but scholars believe the earliest collections of writings first five books date back to nearly 3,500 years ago. The Pentateuch consist of these first five books. The Old Testament, which it is also known as, influenced its time period and still continues to do so today. The exile of the Judean people led their scholars to preserve their cultural identity through the Hebrew Bible s usage of chiasm, repetition, and kinesthetic imagery. Each literary device was designed so the audience could memorize the details and elite could easily pass down the stories orally. In a society where only the professional elite read and wrote, The Bible was written down in a series of years by a serious of these elites. It is believed to be written after the Babylonian Captivity. The Judean people were first exiled to Babylon, and forced to assimilate into a society with a whole other creation myth. The people of Judah were uprooted from their homes and forced to a new land, Babylon. However, the exile ended at approximately 538 BCE when Cyrus The Great conquered Persia and released the Jews back to Palestine. Upon return, scholars believe the first words of The Bible were written. The first words were written because in times of grief and despair, religious growth follows. So, when the Jews from Babylon returned home, a sense of spiritual renewal occurred which forced the hands of scribes to document their faith, (Barton 369). In a time period ... • 3. Modern Media And Technology Conditions The Public Mind More than ever before, technology has infused itself into our everyday life and tasks. As our dominant mean of obtaining any information possible at any time you desire, it is an irrefutable fact that modern media and technology conditions the public mind. How it does so, is not so obvious. Today s media affects everyone, individually and as a general populace. Individually, medias such as Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. change our perception of reality by presenting us versions of people that are made to seem beyond the norm in some way; outrageously beautiful, unique, talented, etc.on a regular basis. These repeated ideals of what the norm should be or what should be desired creates a warped perception of reality.(Enzenberg ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a consequence, people associate their best self with their digital identity, who ultimately isn t who they are ,causing a drastic disconnect from one s actual self and who they are online. This disconnect causes an internal dissatisfaction with every aspect of ourselves that turns into something much worse than just a low self esteem. Anxiety, depression, and addiction have all been results of this, as proven with the BFAS Berge Facebook Addiction Scale and Facebook Depression .(Jennifer Van Pelt, MA) Furthermore, there is power in repetition and how it affects the subconscious mind incredibly. The idea of what qualifies as desirable is incessantly forced into our minds by television, magazines, etc. Thus the images portrayed are normalized. As in, this is the normal idea of what beautiful, the normal idea of what talent is,this is what you want or who you want to be like ,etc. Thigh gaps, accentuated muscles, and such have become such a common and relied on application that even those who are praised by common people, for example: Beyonce, fall subject to the image and socially accepted idea of beauty and what should be desired. However, when watching television or flipping through a magazine, it goes unnoticed that a majority of these people do not look like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of Margaret Atwood s Oryx And Crake Oryx and Crake is a unique novel written by Margaret Atwood. It explores the United States, before and after the entire human race is wiped out by a viral infection, through the eyes of a man named Snowman who, before the outbreak, is known as Jimmy. While in high school, Jimmy meets another boy named Glenn and the two became friends. They bond over weird hobbies including watching an array of things ranging from open heart surgeries to pornography and online games. One day Glenn and Jimmy need codenames for a game they are playing together. Glenn picks Crake for himself and it stuck as his nickname for the rest of his life. After high school, the two boys went their separate ways. Crake ends up creating a pill called BlyssPluss, which leads to the death of mankind, and his own human like species that were named Crakers. Crake ends up dying and leaves the mess he created in Jimmy s hands. This includes the Crakers. In this paper I argue that Jimmy truly cares about the Crakers like a parent because of his miserable upbringing by his. Jimmy s mom left him and his dad behind one day. Not only did she trash Jimmy s father s computer, but she took Killer, Jimmy s pet rakunk and only companion, with her too. Atwood describes Jimmy s response, Jimmy had mourned for weeks. No, for months. (Atwood, 61). Jimmy probably viewed his mother as the one person that would always be there no matter what and is not supposed to hurt him, so when she did the opposite of those two things, ... • 6. Essay On How Did The North s Industry Lead To Northern... To What Extent did the North s Industry lead to Northern Victory? The North s industrial dominance was a major factor of why the won the war as it was an underlying factor to the other aspects of how they won. Through the North s industrial prominence it allowed them to be a much more versatile and flexible army through transportation, population and financial supremacy. The Northern industry allowed them to produce war goods and to be an independent economy, which had a major play to their success in the war. The lack of emphasis on manufacturing and commercial interest, stemming from the Southern desire to preserve their traditional agricultural society, disadvantaging themselves to the North and their ability to function independently. It was neither Northern troops nor generals that won the Civil War, rather Northern guns and industry. The Confederates were all too willing to sell what little raw resources they controlled to the North for any amount of profit. This would only buy the South time, but not the war. Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the ‘you of the poem, as she stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. • It might be helpful to regard this poem, like the others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening. Eliot used words as his way of painting the picture. • The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. • Residents, living probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are probably all workers living in flats. The word ‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. • By linking the scene here with the ‘stale smells of beer and ‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of ‘Prelude II and the ‘thousand sordid images of ‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are set in a red light district of a city. • The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out . Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? • The weather is bad; a windy shower beats on the buildings and on the horse outside. Essay about Seal Hunting in Atlantic Canada The annual hunt of harp seals (Pagophilus groenlandicus) in Atlantic Canada is contested at the start of nearly every season, with celebrities, politicians, and the public actively weighing in on the matter. Economic benefits gained from the seal hunt include an increase in trading relationships for Canada and the stimulation of the provincial economy of Newfoundland and Labrador. As reported by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the total landed value of the seal harvest for 2006 was $34.3 million dollars ( Market 1). There is no reliable technique of measuring the personal preferences of the representatives that are unaffected by the demands presented by their constituents. Various scholars who have analyzed this scenario have made efforts to assess the roles that are played by individual preferences through identifying some individual characteristics that are related to the interests and preferences of the representative. For instance, the personal wealth of the member might be linked with their economic policy preferences, and the use of tobacco by the member may be linked to their tobacco legislation preferences. Marcion believed that the Jewish Scriptures only concerned the covenant between God and the Jews of Israel, and therefore was no longer valid for the Christian church. In his mind, these were two very separate Gods. When noticing that several of Paul s writings made mention of the God of Israel, Marcion claimed that those writings were not Paul s original texts, and should be considered counterfeit. Marcion s views of Paul s forged portions of his letters can be attributed to what many theologians today might call the Slippery Slope Argument. In this case, Marcion chose not to trust in the inerrancy of what God had spoken to Paul. Paul s writing s were flawed, or someone must have tampered with them. This lack of trust in inerrancy would ultimately allow Marcion to fall down a slippery slope , giving way to forsake other important Christian foundational truths. As his ideologies became more widespread, it became obvious that Marcion s views on creation were radically reinterpreted (or misinterpreted, better yet), as well as his opinions on the doctrines of incarnation and the resurrection. With limited economic resources at our disposal, we must ensure that future power plants run on the same primary fuel. With that said, I hope you carefully consider my recommendations, as they are essential in maintaining the current and future state of our country. Although using coal as our primary energy resource has minor sociopolitical and scientific complications, the strategies to address these problems and the social, political, scientific, and economic advantages greatly outweigh the setbacks. While coal is a nonrenewable fossil fuel, it will still provide our country enough energy to last over 20 years. Coal deposits in our country are plentiful, making it a more readily available resource than natural gas or nuclear energy. Since we will eventually extract the coal, it is logical to use it now to fuel our expanding economy. More importantly, the method for extraction, mountaintop removal mining, is a generally safe approach that presents nominal risks for workers. As a result, choosing coal as our country s primary fuel resource will diminish sociopolitical backlash. In addition, coal proves to be extremely economically viable due to its high yield factor, allowing it to produce high amounts of energy with minimal effort for extraction. Remarkably, throughout Temas s ordeal, he fears failure and disappointment, however, with the help of an olden enemy, Medoto, Temas not only succeeds his right of passage though also originates a friend from an enemy. Similarly, in the movie, Tuck Everlasting, directed by Jay Russell, an independence seeking girl, who goes by the name of Winnie, feels as though she needs to be free, and seek each and every form of adventure in her life. Even so, Winnie faces a difficult choice that will last a lifetime, and in the end, she chooses the right path and prevents anyone to resolve the same mistake as a friend once made. Although Temas and Winnie face different challenges from the influences being pushed upon them, both opt for decisions that change them each into a superior version of themselves. Be that as it may, if Temas fails his rite of passage, he will be marked a failure, whereas Winnie may never fulfill a normal life. • 29. Welfare Spending During The United States Welfare spending in the United States of America has been realizing negative effects on the economic standing of American society as a whole, more specifically in terms of long term growth in poverty rates and high levels of unemployment. As of the report for fiscal year 2011, the total funds spent for the federal welfare programs amounted to roughly $ 1.03 trillion. . . This excludes entitlement programs to which people contribute (e.g. Social Security and Medicare) , according to Sessions, J. (2011, p.1). SS expenditures in 2011 was $725 billion while for Medicare, it amounted to $ 480 billion. The analytical findings of Brady, D.( 2009, p.81) stated that As countries devote a larger share of their economy to welfare, poverty declines steeply. This happened to Scandinavia, Finland, and Sweden, and European continental countries like Netherlands and Belgium. USA was identified to have high poverty and low welfare expenses. He also made clear that poverty is not necessarily increased by higher welfare generosity.(p.84) and further says that it benefits all rather than just the elderly or men (p.87). The 5 features of welfare state were historically proven to reduce poverty through greater generosity with (1) social welfare expenditures, (2) expenditures for public health, (3) social security, (4) government expenditures, and (5) decommodification (p.91). Brady, D. (p.92) also contends that public employment is less effective than welfare state generosity as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Archbasilica Essay The Archbasilica of St. John Lateran is the home of the current Pope and one of the most important buildings in Rome. This Christian cathedral was originally constructed for Pope Miltiades in the early 4th century over the remains of the old fort of the Castra Nova Equites Singualres. Emperor Constantine built this church in 324 AD, making it the oldest basilica in Rome. This cathedral went through many reconstructions throughout its history due to earthquakes and fires. Its façade was designed by architect Alessandro Galilei, and it was completed in 1735. Pope Clement XII held a competition for a new design of the façade in 1732 to replace the mediaeval one, and Galilei was chosen because he was an anti Baroque forerunner of the neoclassical architectural movement. Galilei had already been involved in the neo Palladian architectural movement in England and Ireland, and architect Christopher Wren s work in London was a major influence on him. This phrase has been used since biblical times, describing an unconcerned manner unaware of an impending catastrophe. Perhaps there is some relation to George Orwell s Animal Farm? Was this intentional? In this dark fairy tale, George Orwell describes a mid 20th century farm in England that has been taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. The humans are replaced by pigs, who eventually end the cycle worse than it began. The animals chased out a tyrant, just so they could be repressed by a power just as terrible. This happens in Animal Farm, When Old Major s vision, later called Animalism, was put into practice, the pigs in charge took over and became selfish and violent, twisting the philosophy until it barely contained an echo of the original intent. The same thing happened with communism, as Stalin left much of the country penniless and helpless, and put people to death if they showed the slightest resistance to his regime. The pigs come into power after revealing they have been teaching themselves to read and write from an old spelling book which had belonged to Mr. Jones children, and which had been thrown upon the rubbish heap. This created a divide in intelligence between the other animals and pigs, which the animals believed they could not cross. Several of them would have protested if they could find the right arguments. • 33. Idiocracy Analysis Idiocracy For a movie that had almost no marketing done for it and was released in theaters in only six cities, Mike Judge s Idiocracy, released in 2006, has become an extremely successful movie. Fox sat on the movie for over a year before finally releasing it in theaters. It didn t even have so much as a movie trailer or an official movie poster. When Idiocracy did finally hit the theaters, the movie was only shown for two weeks. And shortly after that it went right to DVD, still without much marketing at all. A movie treated like that is usually because it s not any good, but in spite of all that Idiocracy has become a cult classic and is known as one of Mike Judge s best creations. If you are a fan of any of Mike Judge s other work like Office Space, Beavis and Butt head or Daria then you will definitely enjoy Idiocracy. It does not hold back on any of the satirical humor that Judge is known for. It pokes fun at society and how it can feel like we re getting dumber. It also targets large corporations and how they re growing and controlling more and more of people s everyday lives. If you were never a fan Beavis and Butthead and couldn t get over how incredibly stupid the two boys were, than this movie may not be for you. Judge uses this similar low brow humor to make his point about different flaws in society and exaggerate some of the effects it could have on the future. Idiocracy takes a different look at your usual future dystopia than we usually see. Instead of a technologically advanced intelligent society or a post apocalyptic wasteland we see more of a dumbed down corporate ran society. The idea is that while all of the intelligent people were having less kids so they can focus on creating things and contributing to society, the dumber people were off making lots of children. After years of this, it eventually leads to the whole world becoming filled with stupid people. Joe Bauers is chosen for a military experiment because he is the most average guy the army has to offer, along with Rita, a prostitute who works for a pimp named Upgrayedd. • 34. Questions On The Theoretical Lens Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of assumptions made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background, and religion. This concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things will be and turn out to be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand things based on the set of theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In child development, theoretical lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society views the progress of its future generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the theoretical lens are often rejected, which can cause distress to those individuals who are not conforming to these expectations. Different countries have different assumptions about how the world works and the role that each individual plays in it. These individuals, such as children, across the globe have different expectations from society based on the region s theoretical lens. For example the main issues facing young people in India will be the school versus work, the tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004) The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from those found in the United States for young people. The culture difference is key in how new generations will develop in accordance to societies expectations. A young person in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Fourth Amendment And Fifth Amendment The three amendments that are used to protect the rights of those accused of a crime include, the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment protects the right of people to be secure in their persons, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures. (Peak, 2015, p.181). The Fifth Amendment protects the accused against self incrimination, double jeopardy, and life, liberty, and property. Meaning no person will be forced to be a witness against themselves, they cannot be tried for the same offense twice, and their right to life, liberty, and property are protected under the law. (Peak, 2015, p.193). The Sixth Amendment is the right to counsel. Any person who is accused of a crime has the right to counsel for their defense, a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury, to be informed of the nature of their crime which also includes Miranda rights, and to be confronted with the witness against him/her while also having witnesses of their own. (Peak, 2015, p.195). These three Amendments in summary mean to me, that any person who is accused of a crime is innocent until proven guilty and their rights are just as important as anyone else. They have the natural born right to have their rights as citizens protected under the law, and ensure fair treatment from law enforcement officers.
