Muslims and The Holy Qur an
There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non Muslims on
English translations of the Holy Qur an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of
Qur anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn t discuss
euphemisms in the Holy Qur an as culture bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions
for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the
previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal
equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur an to obtain a
closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the
Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study
stems from the well planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur anic euphemistic expressions
into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and
lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use
other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation
and paraphrase. Outline of the study
The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of the
study and present various definitions of

Analysis of the Amended Family and Medical Leave Act Essay
On August 5, 1993 the amended Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), was intended to
help employees have a work life balance. This accomplishment placed the United Stated ahead of
major barriers for the fair labor laws. Before having the amended FMLA put into place, employees
were rarely granted job protection for caring for newborns, relatives and personal medical illness.
With the new amended act, it allowed employees to take a leave of absence from their job and allowed
protection from being fired or having to take a reduced work scheduled by force from the company.
Initially, the bill had been introduced to Congress session for the past nine years and had been vetoed
twice by President George H.W. Bush, although, in the 1988 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

S. Department of Labor, 2009).
Business Affects FMLA affects employers in many ways, such as monitoring leaves of absence,
coordinating benefits for employees, record keeping and return to work conditions. FMLA affects
employers in terms of ensuring compensation, and benefits specialists are well versed in the
application of FMLA regulations to individual employee circumstances. Employers are affected also
by FMLA but not replacing the employee or giving the employee an alternative position with the
strong intentions of discouraging them from taking the leave. If the employer fails to comply, there are
strict consequences and possible lawsuits. Another discouragement that affected for the employers
were that they had to continue providing group health insurance to the employee while on leave. The
FMLA can have a negative impact on both small and large employers due to the law s regulatory and
administrative complexity (Leonard, 2000). FMLA created a sense of burden for employers and their
management team, as they were responsible in finding suitable replacements to fill in for employees
who are out on FMLA leave. This would have eventually slowed down the employer s productivity
causing profit losses, which employer s do not want to see happen.

About The Medieval World View In The Early...
Suppose you are entering Chartres through the central portal. You want to get to the apse. What parts
of the plan might you traverse in order to get there? Describe what you will see along the way. I would
enter the Chartres Cathedral through the center door of the Royal portal located on the Western façade
(although the photograph depicts people entering and leaving through the left hand door). I would pass
by figures of Old Testament kings and queens and under the central tympanum (Adams, 208).
Although far above my head, I would know that the scene on the tympanum represents the Second
Coming of Christ (Adams, 209). I would proceed east down the nave through the crossing in the
middle, on through the choir to the apse. I would be in awe of the wonder of the overwhelming
sensation of height as I walked down the nave. I would admire the arches on the heavy piers on either
side of the nave. Arriving at the apse, I would admire the beauty of the windows which are the main
source of light in the nave (Adams, 212). 1. Describe the hierarchical organization of the Manuscript

Military Involvement around the World Essay
Military Involvement Around The World
Throughout America s history of being a superpower, America has asserted its dominance into the
world s problems. President Barack Obama once said the more and more, we all confront difficult
questions about how to prevent the slaughter of civilians by their own government, or to stop a civil
war whose violence and suffering can engulf an entire region (Scott U.S. Intervention). Sometimes to
achieve total peace, one must engage in violence to bring tranquility to the world. Since the late 1800
s, the United States has been engaged in or has impacted other countries in an attempt to better the
nations as a whole, therefore, U.S. involvement is a necessary good that must take place in order to

Some may think that this War on Terrorism has been a waste of time, however as the war drove on the
American military, along with a coalition of other countries, helped drive out the Taliban and rebuild
Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran (Tindall America A Narrative). Without America s aid, the
Taliban would still be plaguing the Middle East. Also the U.S. intervention helped keep the peace
throughout the rebellious countries. The quote stated in the opening paragraph by President Obama
means that U.S. intervention is the best option because it helps stop the threat of other revolutions in
the neighboring countries (Scott). With the presence of a bigger more powering military looming in
the distance then the rebellions and revolutions would be minimized because of the fear of facing the
superior force with inferior power.
Even though majority of America s interventions in other countries have been for the greater good,
America has gotten involved in places that they should not have gotten involved in. In the late 1800 s
America had gone to war against Spain with no justification except for the fear of political backfire.
With the sinking of the Maine, America sought out retribution even after Spain denounced that they
had any part in the sinking of the naval ship. As a result of the war, America had

Why People Win Public Support
In their own way, all four themes may help us win public support for the group advocacy project. If an
individual can approach the public with meaningful, powerful, and confident information then their
chances are strong that they may have the potential to win public support. The theme that stands out to
me the most in regards to winning public support is rights. Rights stands out to me for multiple
reasons. The theme for the advocacy project I am participating is is Aboriginal Rights. A tremendous
struggle for indigenous people is rights. As described in the text, they are victims of discrimination
and advocate for their rights (Abramovitz, 2004). It is imperative that these individuals are advocated
for because they do not always have access

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a lot
to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution that
has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this district
would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the
future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates
as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high schools
would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high school in or near
these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already owns the
property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when you have a
property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an excellent choice
property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own
city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of
Akron.
Scope
My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied
Garfield High school. This would give the southern portion of

Exploring America s Taboo With Death Through The Aghori People
Introduction:
Every culture has taboos, a cultural standard of shared values and appropriate practices. They can
cover behavior, clothing choice, food, sexual activity, even social perception. These cultural rules
ensure a cohesive environment where nobody feels uneasy about the actions of others. Yet, some
taboos get challenged through individuals rebelling or using the breaking of a taboo to establish
dominance, or another social group disregarding another cultures taboo even though it could lead to
social punishment. When it comes to the controversial topic of death, there are many hard lines ...

The body could be broken into different components that can exist together, such as the individual
body, the social body, and the body politic (Scheper Hughes). These body perspectives can be used to
try to understand America s ideas about death. America has a tendency to try to control every aspect of
their life and every function of their body, including death. They become reliant on and adherent to
cultural norms, and accustomed to societal assumptions and paranoias about birth, death, and health.
There is only one readily accessible and acknowledged medical system, the biomedical model, which
provides the society with a service necessary to prolong life (Scheper Hughes). This cultural model
can begin to shed light on Americas obsession with shunning death. Cultural constructions of death
becomes the backbone to what becomes taboo.

Inmate Care Problem
Medical problems do not magically disappear once someone has been incarcerated. If anything, I
believe they are more prevalent within corrections. I say that because the first thing said from many
people I arrest is, I need to see a doctor and get my medications. I have even arrested people who
openly told me the reason they broke the law is so they could get free medical attention, such as
surgery or dental work. This not only hurts the budget of a jail or prison, but also the pockets of
taxpayers. According to York, Inmate health care costs are on the rise. This is not surprising knowing
that a great percentage of the inmate population is involved in a risky life of drugs, drinking,
unprotected sex and improper health habits. The cost of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at medical problems reported, females were more probable to report a medical problem
versus male inmates. In addition, females are more likely to report two or more medical problems
versus male inmates. I can relate to this first hand, because many women I have arrested stated that
they were pregnant or they have back issues. Even though prior to coming to jail, they were drinking,
taking drugs, and failed to mention they were pregnant or had back issues. This report also showed as
the age of the inmate increases so does the likelihood of a medical problem being reported. In
addition, hearing and visions reports also increase with age. Leaning, speech, hearing, vision,
mobility, and mental impairment are the six impairments that are reported by inmates. Both male and
female inmates were equal in reporting of having at least one of the six impairments. When it comes
to mental impairment, females were more likely to report than males. Injuries will occur within
prisons, whether accidental or because of fighting. The report shows that both state and federal
inmates are more likely to report accidental injuries versus fight related

Review Of Plate With Quetzalcoatl Deity
The artist who created the piece titled Plate With Quetzalcóatl Deity was either male or female, we
don t know exactly, but we do know that the plate was made around 1200 1400 and they were from
the Mixtec culture that included the regions of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Ouebla, Mexico.1 Furthermore
knowing the artists culture we have a better understanding of the significance of the representation of
the Quetzalcóatl (feathered serpent) on this three dimensional plate. Onward, the plate itself seems to
be 10 inches wide and symmetrical. Also, the feathered god covers the whole diameter of the plate.
Even though it s called a plate, we can speculate that this wasn t a traditional plate for food, but rather
than a plate to show sacredness of the mighty god. To illustrate this sacredness, the artist s palate of
colors that they chose is red, brown and white.
In the artist s palate, the color red is very relevant to the subject of Quetzalcóatl. Indeed color covers
the whole plate showing how significant red is to this piece of artwork. Correspondingly this red isn t
a normal bright red, but more of a mahogany red to represent the symbolism of blood within the story
of Quetzalcóatl. In fact The Indianapolis Museum of Art explains, Quetzalcóatl was an important
Mesoamerican hero god who created humanity from his own blood. 1 There then can be speculations
of the color red. The speculation that is formed is that red symbolizes blood because of the connection
to the color red, this

Social media has played and has been playing a crucial role in the development of health and social
care in United Kingdom (UK). Since the emerge of the health and social care sector, social media has
been performing a tremendous role as the health and social care is becoming an industry and without
this industry social and economic development of UK would not be possible. This report covers the

Mass media has a strong liaison and this strong interpersonal relationship with different sources of
information results in an unveiling of health and social care related information to the public.
Common people are completely influenced by the information provided by the sources. As the sources
of information has been introduced in the previous section, it is state worthy that social and health care
information has changed the attitudes, thoughts, and behavior of common people. Mass media along
with social media make people much more aware about their health and safety issues (Godden, 2014).
For example:
Before the invention of Facebook, any movement that had to be taken place faced great difficulty. But
as Facebook grows and other mass media are getting concerned about the rights of them from the
society, any nonviolent movement is taking place without such effort than previously had done
(Mcclimens, et al, 2012).
People are conscious about various contagious diseases and much more aware about their contribution
to the society. They are also focused on their rights from the society. Their contribution to the society
and the benefits they are deriving from the society are summed to take them to a balancing position or
situation (AJOL, 2014).
LO2 Understanding how issues of public concern related to health and social care are presented in the

Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory Essay
Thomas Hobbes creates a clear idea of the social contract theory in which the social contract is a
collective agreement where everyone in the state of nature comes together and sacrifices all their
liberty in return to security. In return, the State promises to exercise its absolute power to maintain a
state of peace (by punishing deviants, etc.) So are the power and the ability of the state making people
obey to the laws or is there a wider context to this? I am going to look at the different factors to this
argument including a wide range of critiques about Hobbes theory to see whether or not his theory is
convincing reason for constantly obeying the law. Hobbes wrote the Leviathan during the civil war
where he had experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hobbes is also eager on the fact that law is depended on power. A law without a credible and powerful
authority behind it is just simply not a law in any meaningful sense. By reading Hobbes, it was
undoubtedly seen that his biggest trepidation was ending up living in a state of nature. For this reason
he beliefs that the best way of avoiding state of nature is by not rebelling and obeying to the law. He
described it the state of nature as no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of
violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short . He goes on saying that
anyone s property is the common wealth s property. It belongs to the sovereign state. He says That
every private man has an absolute Propriety in his Goods; such, as excludeth the Right of the
Soveraign. Every man has indeed a Propriety that excludes the Right of every other Subject: And he
has it onely from the Soveraign Power; without the protection whereof, every other man should have
equall Right to the same. But if the Right of the Soveraign also be excluded, he cannot performe the
office they have put him into; which is, to defend them both from forraign enemies, and from the
injuries of one another; and consequently there is no longer a Common wealth. He claims that the
State owns everything in the country and citizens are only legitimate to own as long the State finds it

Arthur Miller s Crucible Characters and Social Strife Essay
Arthur Miller s The Crucible presents the fact that every action has a consequence. The playwright
uses his characters and the choices they make to demonstrate what happens in the town of Salem,
Massachusetts. The corrupt interests of the Putnams, Abigail, and the court opposing the common
good lead to social strife in the town. The common townsfolk, such as the Putnams, take advantage of
the situation, and they turn against their neighbors causing tears on the moral makeup of the town. The
vengeful tactics undertaken by the townsfolk to convict their neighbors allow them to avoid their
personal quarrels with each other causing fear of accusations to spread. As Hale questions Elizabeth

(101) The only families rich enough to be able to buy land that is auctioned would be the Putnams and

Mr. Putnam devised a plan to gain George Jacob s land. Mr. Putnam told his daughter to indict Jacobs
of witchcraft. The accusation leads to a sentencing and eventually a hanging, making Jacob s land
available for auction. The people of Salem lie and do wrong to defend their own lives at the cost of
their morality. The reputations of the accused are tarnished, their morals are lost, and their lives
ruined. Abigail and the girls in Salem lie to save themselves from the punishment of their actions, but
soon they find themselves the center of attention among the town. Their actions and desire for

Industrial Farming And Its Effects On The Environment
Commercial farming today produces over 250 million pounds of the meat that is eaten. While some
see that industrial farming has its benefits such as less man power with technology, large scale
production, and lower prices, (Fredrick, Advantages of Industrial Agriculture) the industrial food
institutions have also had bad effects. These effects concern agriculture, the environment, human
health, and animals. Industrial farming can lead to environmental degradation, air and water
contamination, loss of biodiversity, loss of marine life, and even poor treatment of animals kept inside
these industrial farms (Horrigan, How sustainable Agriculture can Address the Environmental...).
Because industrial farming is tied to these bad effects more sustainable approaches can be made to
lessen the severity of this occurring issue. Industrial farming has had effects on our environment in
many ways. Due to large scale farms having to hold many animals, even millions, this comes with the
responsibility of dealing with animal waste. A lot of this waste is either put into fields for nourishment
or is released throughout the air and even dumped into lakes or oceans. This causes the water to then
become unclean and useless. Making clean, drinkable water for families and other animals even
harder to access. Woodlands are also cut down in order to produce human consumables that are then
fed to more human consumables. For example, in Argentina many of the woodlands have been cut
down to produce

ABSTRACT: Spirometers are used to measure lung capacity and response of lungs and chest during
physical therapy. Current spirometers available in the market are expensive and usually cost over
$1,000. Due to this high cost, many physicians practicing in developing countries like India, cannot
afford spirometry equipment. As a result, millions of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease, or COPD, are unable to be effectively monitored or treated for their disease. Thus, the
development of a low cost reliable spirometer would allow these physicians to assess their patient s
pulmonary health. All these factors led to the development of a product which addresses cost issues as
well as technical accuracy[1] . A computer based miniaturized spirometer system is Designed to be

Examples Of Rational Choice Theory By Ronald Goby
1) According to the rational choice theory human actions are based on rationality. In other words an
individual that commit a crime is rational and he/she thinks that the decision that they are taken is the
one that bring the most benefits. Crime is committed for a rational person after the pros and cons from
disobeying the law are evaluated.
In today s society everybody knows that pornography is illegal. That a person is considered an adult
when he/she turns 21. Ronald Goby was clearly conscious about what he was doing, he had
knowledge that he was committing a crime and he knew the consequences were. He choose pleasure
over pain. The decisions made by Ronald Goby were involvement decisions because according to the

Compare And Contrast Lamb To The Slaughter And The Signalman
Initially, both writers in the story of Lamb to the Slaughter and The Signal Man are written in a gothic
style and suspense is created through the use of language devices. In The Signalman written by

The Lamb to the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl, the author uses figurative language, dramatic irony
and most importantly insanity which bring in the suspense to the story. Both writers create suspense in

Ruling in the Griggs v. Duke Power Co. Case
Synopsis: Duke Power, a company being sued by its ethnic minority employees this included Willie
Griggs. Griggs would be filing the class action law suit along with several of his fellow co workers for
unfair processes in which attaining a promotion or higher paying position was met by having a high
school diploma and undergoing IQ testing. Prior to the civil rights act Blacks were only allowed to
work in the company s labor department, which happened to harbor its lowest paying positions as
well. After the implementation of IQ testing and the requirement of holding a high school diploma it
was found that Blacks were being selected at a lower rate for higher positions than their white
counterparts. Considered the first case of its type Griggs v. Duke Power Co. was taken before the
Supreme Court of the United States where it was found that the requirements were not relevant to an
employee s ability to perform a job. Therefore it was ruled that Duke Power Co. promotion practices
were discriminating against its black employees. The Supreme Court found that in adding a
requirement for promotion within a company the requirements need to be reasonably related to the job
for which the test is required thus bringing into question test validity. The question is begged, Can
employment practices be discriminatory if there is no intent to discriminate? Although the Duke
Power Company never intended to discriminate in their internal transferring and promoting
procedures they were

Godfather Goodfellas Essay
The Godfather and Goodfellas are both considered mafia movies. Both of these films portray some
form of organized crime committed by Italians. They mutually romanticize the mob lifestyle and
depict it with pure clarity. Although both of these movies portray the lives of the same kind of people,
they are more than just a simple characterization. Violence plays a major role in each of these films.
The Godfather and Goodfellas are obviously very similar. However, they also have several aspects
that differ from one another.
In both The Godfather and Goodfellas, violence penetrates the daily lives of both Henry Hill and
Michael Corleone. Although violence is a key factor of each of the movies, Goodfellas is more brutal
in comparison to The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these murders happen spontaneously and are not organized. Some of these scenes are
shocking, primeval, and appalling. These moments leave the viewers stunned and disoriented.
Unlike Goodfellas, the violence in The Godfather occurs mysteriously and almost magically. The
organized crimes and murders simply occur without any mistake in this film. One of the bloody scenes
that portray this is the one where Woltz bed is covered in blood. This scene was very slick the way
Tom Hagen slipped away without being noticed by anyone. Hagen s visit was to intimidate Woltz by
proving that if he had to kill him, he would be able to. Another very violent act was Sonny s death.
This plan was organized carefully by Don Emilio Varzini with the help of Carlo Rizzi, his brother in
law. Earlier in the film Sonny had beaten Carlo after he heard Carlo was abusing his sister Connie. To
get back at him, Carlo viciously beats Connie using his belt. When Sonny hears of this he speeds to
Connie s apartment. As he approaches, Barzini s men surround Sonny and viciously shoot him to
death. This act was also thought out very cautiously by masterminds. Towards the end of the movie,
the planned killing of the five other mob leaders is revealed. Michael orders all of the head of the
families to be killed so he can be the top Don. Although this scene is violent, it is masked by the
ceremony of Michael becoming Connie s son s godfather. The mass murder was perfectly planned to

Dogs are really important pets. I think that they are important to our survival for many reasons. These
reasons are that they keep us healthy, protect us and can even discover disease.
Dogs help keep us healthy. According to Celia, walking a dog can help keep you heart healthy. A dog
requires an owner to work out and this creates health benefits. Just walking into a room can bring your
stress level down. This helps keeps you healthy. Dogs provide lots of benefits and can even keep us

Analysis Of British Indian Sculptor Anish Kapoor
Dhruv Setty
Analysis: Anish Kapoor
In this discussion I will be describing two works designed by British Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor.
This is followed by discussion of the two significant aspects of his work context and narrative. Born in
Mumbai, India, in 1954, to parents of Punjabi and Iraqi heritage. Anish Kapoor moved to London
early in his career to pursue studies in design. He first gained notoriety for his work in the 1980s for
creating biomorphic sculptures and installations Revered as being often profound, verging and
inspiring . Much of his work incorporates a modernist feeling. A modernist feeling of materiality with
an interest for the control of structure and the view of space. His work consists of natural figures,
using specific materials (for example, stone, limestone and marble). His models slowly extended
toward more minimalist designs (later in his career). Kapoor uses rich tones, amazingly high quality
surfaces, and uses perspectives that create optical illusions. This shows deep thinking and
understanding of space.
1000 names (Which refers in Hinduism to all the names of the god Vishnu), 1982
Pigment on gesso and wood A return trip to India in 1979 opened Kapoor s eyes to new ideas and
perspectives. These new ideas and perspectives were reflected through his use of saturated colours and
striking designs in bodies of work such as 1000 Names. The 1000 Names series consisted of

Securing and Protecting Information
Information is the most valuable commodity that individuals and global corporations use to grow
financially, economically, and independently. The protection and security of the information is
essential. One of the most vital foundations of protection information is the authentication process.
The authentication process is utilized to protect computer and network systems against various types
of security threats, such as password cracking tools, password dictionary attacks, mistreatment of user
access rights, and any potential unauthorized attacked. Understanding how to authenticate users and
the accessible information that is readily available on system networks can help prevent future issues
as well as provide insight into the developmental process for new systems. In addition, authentication
is simply determining whether someone or some machine is, in fact, who or what they declared there
to be. This process directly reflects on and correlates to the readiness and ease of access to information
and the protection of it.
Authentication is an essential tool of the standard security model layout for most designs from the
ground up to build off. Identifying the individual or machine that is trying to gain access to
information can be serious tasking, that companies do not have the luxury of relaxing on.
Authentication is similar but

The depiction of women in all forms of media, including...
The depiction of women in all forms of media, including print, broadcasted and internet media, is
constantly showing that they are the weaker of the two sexes. Gender. What is it? How does it make us
who we are? Are we dependent on it? So many questions derive from this one word, gender. Gender,
according to ITU is the social attributes and opportunities associated with being male and female .
There are so many different parts of the term gender and so many roles that each sex partakes in. One
role that I have noticed amongst every form of media, weather it is in books or in movies is that
women appear to be the weaker of the two sexes.
I don t believe women are weak and there have been many changes in society to this day that agree ...

I think Disney is the obvious choice to blame for the portrayal of weak women. I mean, Disney
resolves around the idea that women need rescuing, that we are the damsels in distress. I, being 16,
grew up watching Cinderella, Snow White and Rapunzel. All those movies have the same common
motif, that one day my prince will come . In fact, the entire Disney princess movies collection seems
to have the same story line. The endings all had the same idea involving being rescued or saved by a
prince charming .
Another popular kid s movie that was created, that did have some hope for the depiction of women
was Shrek. The idea of the damsel in distress was turned on its head when Princess Fiona got the
shock of her life when the big ogre showed up to rescue her. Fiona went from being the damsel to the
sudden I m better than you attitude because Shrek didn t live up to the typical prince charming .
However Shrek lost this powerful message by the end of the movie and completely threw it in the bag
by the end of the third movie in the motion picture series when Fiona and Shrek got married and had a
family. Yeah, it was sweet and had the message that it is wrong to judge people solely by their
appearances alone, but it also showed the transformation that Fiona took to become perfect for Shrek.
When I am down in the dumps and just want to relax with a nice cup of hot cocoa and watch some
romantic movie that makes every teenage girl reassess her life,

believe that someone being sentenced to life in prison without parole is better. I believe this because
when being sentenced to death, it is in a sense taking the easy way out. Although you may have to
wait many years being actually being executed, it gives you less time to live with the decision you
have made. Having to spend life in prison without parole gives a person more time to come to the

The Machine Chapter 2 Summary Of Kubo s
The machine throughout the story is seen as a triumph of technology but in reality, it destroyed the
nature of mankind, leading to its inevitable failure. The technology places a higher importance on
ideas and reason, sees little need for anything that does not serve a function. The machine removes
any sort of physical fitness since there is limited space there is no need for athletes. Their society no
longer passes on the gene for athleticism, slowly deteriorating and weakening the human body. Babies

their assumed capacities. Mankind had lost their sense of struggle and perseverance since everything
they needed was handed to them and they lacked a desire for the unachievable. The humans lack goals
of any kind and see no need to have any kind of struggle or discomfort. Kumo is the only one to push
these limits of mankind through his exploration of the world above ground. He trains himself to climb
out from underground through walking up and down the platform until he was tired. He begins to
understand the concept of near and far, something the machine has removed from society due to the
lack of space and the reliance on technology to get one from place and place. Kumo realizes that one s
body is the measure for all that is lovable and desirable and strong (11). These humanistic
characteristic are not displayed throughout the book and he is the only one to not ignore the issue of
relying on technology when it cannot provide these things. He does, however, achieve an
understanding of the machine and the consequences that will subsequently arise from the dependence

Answering Cheevers Questions
Answering Cheevers question, Is College worth the money? is complicated for me for multiple
reasons. College in this state is ridiculous for a number of reasons. Actually, college in America
overall is a huge joke. The expense for school in itself is completely outrageous, that s even before
you add in all the housing, tax, books and other random extra fees. College for most can put an
individual into debt before you even finish your first semester. The fact that you have to take a
required class and be present, but then only to go home to self teach yourself, so that you can actually
understand and learn the material to pass. The amount of money that our parents and students dish out
each year to fund our college tuition is insane, sadly.

  • 2. Muslims and The Holy Qur an There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non Muslims on English translations of the Holy Qur an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of Qur anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn t discuss euphemisms in the Holy Qur an as culture bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur an to obtain a closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study stems from the well planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur anic euphemistic expressions into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation and paraphrase. Outline of the study The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of the study and present various definitions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis of the Amended Family and Medical Leave Act Essay On August 5, 1993 the amended Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), was intended to help employees have a work life balance. This accomplishment placed the United Stated ahead of major barriers for the fair labor laws. Before having the amended FMLA put into place, employees were rarely granted job protection for caring for newborns, relatives and personal medical illness. With the new amended act, it allowed employees to take a leave of absence from their job and allowed protection from being fired or having to take a reduced work scheduled by force from the company. Initially, the bill had been introduced to Congress session for the past nine years and had been vetoed twice by President George H.W. Bush, although, in the 1988 ... Business Affects FMLA affects employers in many ways, such as monitoring leaves of absence, coordinating benefits for employees, record keeping and return to work conditions. FMLA affects employers in terms of ensuring compensation, and benefits specialists are well versed in the application of FMLA regulations to individual employee circumstances. Employers are affected also by FMLA but not replacing the employee or giving the employee an alternative position with the strong intentions of discouraging them from taking the leave. If the employer fails to comply, there are strict consequences and possible lawsuits. Another discouragement that affected for the employers were that they had to continue providing group health insurance to the employee while on leave. The FMLA can have a negative impact on both small and large employers due to the law s regulatory and administrative complexity (Leonard, 2000). FMLA created a sense of burden for employers and their management team, as they were responsible in finding suitable replacements to fill in for employees who are out on FMLA leave. This would have eventually slowed down the employer s productivity causing profit losses, which employer s do not want to see happen. • 4. About The Medieval World View In The Early... Suppose you are entering Chartres through the central portal. You want to get to the apse. What parts of the plan might you traverse in order to get there? Describe what you will see along the way. I would enter the Chartres Cathedral through the center door of the Royal portal located on the Western façade (although the photograph depicts people entering and leaving through the left hand door). I would pass by figures of Old Testament kings and queens and under the central tympanum (Adams, 208). Although far above my head, I would know that the scene on the tympanum represents the Second Coming of Christ (Adams, 209). I would proceed east down the nave through the crossing in the middle, on through the choir to the apse. I would be in awe of the wonder of the overwhelming sensation of height as I walked down the nave. I would admire the arches on the heavy piers on either side of the nave. Arriving at the apse, I would admire the beauty of the windows which are the main source of light in the nave (Adams, 212). 1. Military Involvement around the World Essay Military Involvement Around The World Throughout America s history of being a superpower, America has asserted its dominance into the world s problems. President Barack Obama once said the more and more, we all confront difficult questions about how to prevent the slaughter of civilians by their own government, or to stop a civil war whose violence and suffering can engulf an entire region (Scott U.S. Intervention). Sometimes to achieve total peace, one must engage in violence to bring tranquility to the world. Since the late 1800 s, the United States has been engaged in or has impacted other countries in an attempt to better the nations as a whole, therefore, U.S. involvement is a necessary good that must take place in order to achieve ... Some may think that this War on Terrorism has been a waste of time, however as the war drove on the American military, along with a coalition of other countries, helped drive out the Taliban and rebuild Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran (Tindall America A Narrative). Without America s aid, the Taliban would still be plaguing the Middle East. Also the U.S. intervention helped keep the peace throughout the rebellious countries. The quote stated in the opening paragraph by President Obama means that U.S. intervention is the best option because it helps stop the threat of other revolutions in the neighboring countries (Scott). With the presence of a bigger more powering military looming in the distance then the rebellions and revolutions would be minimized because of the fear of facing the superior force with inferior power. Even though majority of America s interventions in other countries have been for the greater good, America has gotten involved in places that they should not have gotten involved in. In the late 1800 s America had gone to war against Spain with no justification except for the fear of political backfire. With the sinking of the Maine, America sought out retribution even after Spain denounced that they had any part in the sinking of the naval ship. As a result of the war, America had ... If an individual can approach the public with meaningful, powerful, and confident information then their chances are strong that they may have the potential to win public support. The theme that stands out to me the most in regards to winning public support is rights. Rights stands out to me for multiple reasons. The theme for the advocacy project I am participating is is Aboriginal Rights. A tremendous struggle for indigenous people is rights. As described in the text, they are victims of discrimination and advocate for their rights (Abramovitz, 2004). • 7. We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay INTRODUCTION I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. Purpose Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high school in or near these districts. Problem Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an excellent choice property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. Scope My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied Garfield High school. This would give the southern portion of ... • 8. The Influence Of Taboos In American Culture Kerstin Schkrioba Professor Mesola Health, Illness, and Healing April 26th, 2015 Exploring America s Taboo With Death Through The Aghori People Introduction: Every culture has taboos, a cultural standard of shared values and appropriate practices. They can cover behavior, clothing choice, food, sexual activity, even social perception. These cultural rules ensure a cohesive environment where nobody feels uneasy about the actions of others. Yet, some taboos get challenged through individuals rebelling or using the breaking of a taboo to establish dominance, or another social group disregarding another cultures taboo even though it could lead to social punishment. The body could be broken into different components that can exist together, such as the individual body, the social body, and the body politic (Scheper Hughes). These body perspectives can be used to try to understand America s ideas about death. America has a tendency to try to control every aspect of their life and every function of their body, including death. They become reliant on and adherent to cultural norms, and accustomed to societal assumptions and paranoias about birth, death, and health. There is only one readily accessible and acknowledged medical system, the biomedical model, which provides the society with a service necessary to prolong life (Scheper Hughes). This cultural model can begin to shed light on Americas obsession with shunning death. Cultural constructions of death becomes the backbone to what becomes taboo. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I say that because the first thing said from many people I arrest is, I need to see a doctor and get my medications. I have even arrested people who openly told me the reason they broke the law is so they could get free medical attention, such as surgery or dental work. This not only hurts the budget of a jail or prison, but also the pockets of taxpayers. According to York, Inmate health care costs are on the rise. This is not surprising knowing that a great percentage of the inmate population is involved in a risky life of drugs, drinking, unprotected sex and improper health habits. The cost of ... In addition, females are more likely to report two or more medical problems versus male inmates. I can relate to this first hand, because many women I have arrested stated that they were pregnant or they have back issues. Even though prior to coming to jail, they were drinking, taking drugs, and failed to mention they were pregnant or had back issues. This report also showed as the age of the inmate increases so does the likelihood of a medical problem being reported. In addition, hearing and visions reports also increase with age. Leaning, speech, hearing, vision, mobility, and mental impairment are the six impairments that are reported by inmates. Both male and female inmates were equal in reporting of having at least one of the six impairments. When it comes to mental impairment, females were more likely to report than males. • 10. Review Of Plate With Quetzalcoatl Deity The artist who created the piece titled Plate With Quetzalcóatl Deity was either male or female, we don t know exactly, but we do know that the plate was made around 1200 1400 and they were from the Mixtec culture that included the regions of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Ouebla, Mexico.1 Furthermore knowing the artists culture we have a better understanding of the significance of the representation of the Quetzalcóatl (feathered serpent) on this three dimensional plate. Onward, the plate itself seems to be 10 inches wide and symmetrical. Also, the feathered god covers the whole diameter of the plate. Even though it s called a plate, we can speculate that this wasn t a traditional plate for food, but rather than a plate to show sacredness of the mighty god. To illustrate this sacredness, the artist s palate of colors that they chose is red, brown and white. In the artist s palate, the color red is very relevant to the subject of Quetzalcóatl. Indeed color covers the whole plate showing how significant red is to this piece of artwork. Correspondingly this red isn t a normal bright red, but more of a mahogany red to represent the symbolism of blood within the story of Quetzalcóatl. In fact The Indianapolis Museum of Art explains, Quetzalcóatl was an important Mesoamerican hero god who created humanity from his own blood. 1 There then can be speculations of the color red. The speculation that is formed is that red symbolizes blood because of the connection to the color red, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mass media along with social media make people much more aware about their health and safety issues (Godden, 2014). For example: Before the invention of Facebook, any movement that had to be taken place faced great difficulty. But as Facebook grows and other mass media are getting concerned about the rights of them from the society, any nonviolent movement is taking place without such effort than previously had done (Mcclimens, et al, 2012). People are conscious about various contagious diseases and much more aware about their contribution to the society. They are also focused on their rights from the society. • 12. Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory Essay Thomas Hobbes creates a clear idea of the social contract theory in which the social contract is a collective agreement where everyone in the state of nature comes together and sacrifices all their liberty in return to security. In return, the State promises to exercise its absolute power to maintain a state of peace (by punishing deviants, etc.) So are the power and the ability of the state making people obey to the laws or is there a wider context to this? A law without a credible and powerful authority behind it is just simply not a law in any meaningful sense. By reading Hobbes, it was undoubtedly seen that his biggest trepidation was ending up living in a state of nature. For this reason he beliefs that the best way of avoiding state of nature is by not rebelling and obeying to the law. He described it the state of nature as no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short . He goes on saying that anyone s property is the common wealth s property. It belongs to the sovereign state. He says That every private man has an absolute Propriety in his Goods; such, as excludeth the Right of the Soveraign. Every man has indeed a Propriety that excludes the Right of every other Subject: And he has it onely from the Soveraign Power; without the protection whereof, every other man should have equall Right to the same. But if the Right of the Soveraign also be excluded, he cannot performe the office they have put him into; which is, to defend them both from forraign enemies, and from the injuries of one another; and consequently there is no longer a Common wealth. • 15. Industrial Farming And Its Effects On The Environment Commercial farming today produces over 250 million pounds of the meat that is eaten. While some see that industrial farming has its benefits such as less man power with technology, large scale production, and lower prices, (Fredrick, Advantages of Industrial Agriculture) the industrial food institutions have also had bad effects. These effects concern agriculture, the environment, human health, and animals. Industrial farming can lead to environmental degradation, air and water contamination, loss of biodiversity, loss of marine life, and even poor treatment of animals kept inside these industrial farms (Horrigan, How sustainable Agriculture can Address the Environmental...). Because industrial farming is tied to these bad effects more sustainable approaches can be made to lessen the severity of this occurring issue. Industrial farming has had effects on our environment in many ways. Due to large scale farms having to hold many animals, even millions, this comes with the responsibility of dealing with animal waste. A lot of this waste is either put into fields for nourishment or is released throughout the air and even dumped into lakes or oceans. This causes the water to then become unclean and useless. Making clean, drinkable water for families and other animals even harder to access. Woodlands are also cut down in order to produce human consumables that are then fed to more human consumables.
