Ethanol And Fuel Properties Of Ethanol
Ethanol contains a two carbon alcohol and six hydrogen (C2H6O) and has low cetane number (8), low
heating value (26.8) and low viscosity (1.08) at 40. Table 5. shows the properties of diesel, gasoline,
ethanol, acetone and butanol. Furthermore, the stability of any blend is an im portant factor in fuel
properties. The most significant issue of using ethanol with diesel is solu bility and miscibility.
Therefore, the use of biodiesel is an important method to stabilise ethanol in diesel [119, 124]. In order
to maintain the stability of ethanol diesel blends, two types of additive methodologies are normally
employed: the addition of surfactants (emulsifiers) that yield stable emulsions or micro emulsion, and
the addition of co solvent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effects of adding of vegetable methyl ester to diesel ethanol blends were studied by Chen et al.
[152], who observed that the addition of ester to diesel ethanol blends prevents phase separation up to
30% by volume to maintain the homogeneity of blends
Other significant research has undertaken by Barabás et al. [119] who investigated to 27 mix ture
samples of ethanol, biodiesel and diesel in different ratios. The experiments showed that only seven
samples were suitable in terms of miscibility and stability and two samples (B10D85E5 and
B25D70E5) could successfully replace diesel.
4.2.2 Ethanol blend Tested in CI Engines
Blending ethanol with diesel fuel has several issues in terms of performance and emission lev els. A
number of studies have examined the effect of ethanol on thermal efficiency, brake power, fuel
consumption and emission levels. Some research [114, 120, 125, 126] obtained dif ferent results in
terms of performance and emission levels. Most of this research agreed that ethanol causes an increase
in fuel consumption (BSFC) and a decrease in the efficiency of the diesel engines. Chen et al. [120]
showed that ethanol could decrease some types of emissions such as smoke and PM because high
oxygen content helps to complete the combustion. When vegetable methyl ester was added to

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
According to a definition in the Merriam Webster Dictionary, beauty is the quality or aggregate of
qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.
With this definition, it can be said that beautiful things may include, but not limited to, natural
sceneries, classical music, and the taste of a quality dish since these stimulate pleasure. An Irish
romance novelist, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (1878) stated in his novel entitled Molly Bawn that
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a commonly used expression in British and American
English. It is frequently phrased as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and beauty lies in the eye of the

A beautiful woman, one that is talked about, loved and desired, possess physical attractiveness. Good
looks are always what are seen first. To be considered as a beautiful woman, there are characteristics
that must be attained. An idea of a beautiful woman is usually one that is young and slender, and
white, a flawless person. It is how beauty in women is usually thought to be, because it is what media
tells the people. The ideas from the media cannot be avoided. It is everywhere and it is common for a
modern day citizen to access the media for activities such as reading fiction, newspaper and Internet
articles, watching shows, interacting with people online, and playing digital games. Citizens depend
on the media for learning new information and experiencing entertainment as part of a routine or day
to day basis. The media s portrayal of a beautiful woman appears in the television, printed
publications like magazines and books, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, in video games
of different platforms, and even in the toys of children. The idea portrayed is constant among them.
The media gives an unrealistic portrayal of feminine beauty. The image of a woman with long legs,
small waist, a light skin tone, and sometimes big busted, has become a standard of beauty that has
been sensationalized and kept alive. The sexualization and objectification of women is evident

Water And Water Pollution In The St. Johns River
The St. Johns River is suffering from a significant environmental disaster because of toxic substances
from municipal and industrial wastewater, fertilizer runoff, failing septic tanks, and stormwater.
Consequently, over 55% of the river miles, 80.4% of acres of large water bodies, 59.4 % of estuaries,
and 31.4% of coastline miles do not meet water quality standards in Florida (Florida Department of
Environmental Protection 119). For that matter, studying those pollution problems that the river faces
is vital since one can use this information to salvage the natural resource which is at the brink of
destruction.
Often, toxic substances are being drained into the air, waterways, and undergrounds wells. According
to the report by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over 60 million pounds of deadly chemicals
are produced by industries in Florida. Notably, Florida s water has been suffering mercury
contamination until the state s department of migration issues a circular regularly for regulations of
eating freshwater fish in the region (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). In fact,
such metals emanate from coal combustion s emissions which run into water bodies. Not to mention,
pesticides and herbicides utilized by government and homeowners pollute the environment (Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). Indeed, all chemicals released into the atmosphere find
themselves in rivers.
Besides toxic substances, nutrient pollution is a significant blow

Franklin Delano Roosevelt And The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a time in history that our country was brought to the edge of financial and
emotional despair. There were many events that led to the great Depression, what were at the
important factors that brought the Depression to an end? A man by the name of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt was pivotal in bringing the nation a mindset of hope, his New Deal brought about change
and the beginning of World War II all contributed to ending the Great Depression.
The collapse of the Stock Market in October 1929 began when 16,410,030 shares of stock were sold
off in a single day and the market lost $14 billion in value, nearly five times more than the annual
budget of the United States, capping off a week in which the market lost 39.6% of its value between
October 24th and October 29th. Many economists simply considered this part of the normal business
cycle and believed that intervening to stop or reverse it would cause even greater problems. By July 8,
1932, when the market finally hit its bottom, it had lost a stunning 89% of its pre crash October 23,
1929 value. ( )
Roosevelt is revered as one of the greatest men of the 20th century much because of his desire and
dedication to pulling the nation out of depression. Roosevelt won 42 of the 48 states and became
President in March 1933. In his inaugural address, Roosevelt stated the now famous line, The only
thing we have to fear is fear itself he went on to say that this fear was, nameless, unreasoning,

Kate Weiner s Fly Away Home
Divorce isn t such a tragedy. A tragedy s staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the
wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce, states Jennifer Weiner, a New York Times
Bestselling author, in her novel, Fly Away Home. Although Weiner has a point in voicing that a
dispirited and forlorn relationship can corrupt the innocent mentality of children, it is vital that she
also considers the darker, more sinister side of divorce. To put the term divorce simply, it is what
husband and wife do together when they no longer wish to do anything together (Yantiss). If for any
reason one may feel as if their current marriage isn t right, isn t working out, for them, one way to
solve that problem would be divorce: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact, about one in five women descend into poverty after divorce because of unequal
wages between the two genders. If one has children, they must pay for child support, a court ordered
payment to support the children of divorced families, in addition to other fees, including payment for a
separate house, or apartment, and other expenses if an adult has custody, or shares custody of their
children. Some will insist that this doesn t have much of an effect on richer couples, but it s crucial
that one remembers that both of the people involved in the divorce don t automatically stay the way
they are, even if they re rich and extremely wealthy. They won t both maintain the same standard of
living as they had before, so divorce actually does have a financial effect on everybody, no matter the
richer or the poorer the person is. Essentially, the income that used to support any household now must
stretch and break up to support two. The loss of wealth can severely damage a person s life, but not as
considerable as the depletion of their well being. The influence of a divorce on one s health is severe,
and may lead to depression, or even death. According to Christina Hetherington, a therapist and life
coach specialising in Relationship and Divorce Coaching, divorced men have death rates that are 250
percent higher than married

Essay on The Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. Lincoln was born on
February 12, 1809, and died on April 15, 1865. As a young child, Abraham lived in a log cabin in
Illinois. Around the age of twelve he began working, wielding an ax, building fences, and cutting
wood. Later, Abraham Lincoln married a woman named Mary Todd; together they had four children.
Lincoln started his presidency on March 18, 1861, but his term was cut short on April 14, 1865, by the
assassin John Wilkes Booth (Abraham). John Wilkes Booth was born on May 10, 1838, and lived in
Maryland. Booth was the eighth of ten children living in his home in the northern part of Maryland.

The Thirteenth Amendment states, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as punishment for
crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, nor any

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. The president was on his way to see the
comedy Our American Cousin at Fords Theater with General Grant and his wife. Secretary of War,
Edwin Stanton, begged the president not to attend the comedy. Disregarding Stanton s plea for him to
stay home in case of an attempted assassination, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln arrived at Fords Theater a little
late and made their way to his box. John Parker, a notorious drinker, left the box, leaving the president
and his wife unguarded. In the middle of the third act, John Wilkes Booth slipped into the box and
pointed a gun to the back of the sixteenth president s head; Wilkes plan to murder the president

shot pistol with a black walnut stock inlaid with silver. The pistol was manufactured by the Henry

Ultimately, the goal of Global Multi Products Chile is to promote a corporate culture that embraces
trust and reliance between different departments. Unfortunately trust takes a long time to build and
this compensation solution can be implemented in the short term while developing the necessary trust
for the desired corporate culture.
NEED FOR ESTABLISHING COMMON GOALS AND PRODUCTIVE CORPORATE CULTURE
Problem: Global Multi Products Chile has gone through many changes and employees feel volatile
and lack trust amongst departments. This lack of trust found in the Chilean workplace is hindering
Multi Products ability to compete with large western manufacturers for important clients.
Solution: Executive managers need to communicate longer term goals and visions for the organization
through small steps and workshops in each of the different departments. Employees of similar status
might engage in after work socializing activities. This would permit the development of personal
relationships between employees in similar departments perhaps alleviating some of the distrust found
at Multi Products Chile. Another area of importance is the instruction to more senior managers
relaying to them the value of working with members in the different sales departments and what ever
other departments necessary in order to better serve

A Truly Beautiful Soul in The Idiot, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky...
The Russian novelist Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky stands at the very summit of Russian
literature. No 19th century writer had greater psychological insight or philosophical depth. None
speaks more immediately and passionately to the mood and tone of the present century. This essay
will discuss how Dostoyevsky s intent to portray a truly beautiful soul manifests itself in the novel The
Idiot, and access Dostoyevsky s success or failure in achieving his intention.
Dostoyevsky confesses in his letter to Maikov dated January 12, 1868 that his desperate situation
compelled him to resort to the fascinating and tempting, but nonetheless difficult and premature
thought of portraying a wholly beautiful individual. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would suggest that Myshkin could not possibly embody beauty since he is ineffectual and
destructive and ultimately inadvertently assists a murder of a physically beautiful woman. I will try to
show in my essay though that although this is a deliberately pessimistic and truthful hypothesis,
Dostoyevsky does portray a truly beautiful soul .
The proposal of The Idiot is to expose the contradiction between worldly and heavenly values: a saint
, like Prince Myshkin, is considered an idiot . He doesn t see what everybody sees, because he has got
his eyes set not in other people s faces, but in their souls. Just like the author, he is a psychologist: and
a psychologist not only with a complete understanding of every individual s minds, but also full of
compassion for each one of their failures. Once again, we see the triad compassion/forgiveness/love as
the main message of the book.
Prince Myshkin is Dostoyevsky s positive character. He is an ideal Christian and lives by the virtue of
such ideals. He is compassionate, benevolent, patient and forgiving. He arrives in Russia at the age of
twenty six having spent four years in Switzerland treating his epilepsy and mental illness. He refers to
himself as an idiot because of this illness. The reason for his arrival to St. Petersburg is to start a new
life with the help of his distant relative Elizaveta Prokofievna Yepanchin. At their family home he is
attracted to Aglaya as a new hope. He

Dental Implants Advantages And Disadvantages
Dentures
Dentures are a very popular option, when it comes to replacing missing teeth. For years, they were
arguably the most popular option on the market. However, there are many reasons why dentures may
not not be the best option for you, depending on a wide variety of different factors. For example, many
people complain about the fake and unnatural feel of dentures, as well as the discomfort. Dentures
also tend to move around quite a bit, and they also need to be removed on a regular basis, to be
cleaned. If all of this sounds a little unpleasant, you will be happy to know there are many other
options available, for replacing teeth. One of the most popular choices, are dental implants. Dental
implants are advantageous for a number of reasons, one of the most important being that they feel and
function much more like your own teeth. Here at By Design, we specialize in the revolutionary All on

Michel Foucault uses the term docility to explain how control and power is achieved through
discipline. The classical age discovered the body as an object and target of power. Generally docile
means ready to accept control or instruction (submissive) He tells us a body is docile when it is
subjected and trained with a lot of practise. He gives various methods about the control of the body
and brings out disciplines by the relation of docility utility, (Foucault, 137). He tells us many gestures
that are analogous to dancers. He also elaborates the idea of the soldier s body by giving their

Edwidge Danticat s Father In Brother I M Dying
Immigration still remains as one of the major issues around the world that influences many lives of
immigrants, especially for those who are fleeing from their own country to seek freedom and a better
life in the United States. However, entering another country seems much more difficult than it sounds
when it comes to processes such as health check, background check, and criminal record check, which
symbolize alienation to the majority of immigrants. As a writer, Edwidge Danticat articulates the
inhumane facets within the processes of immigration and alienation through the imageries of her
family members, and she adequately implies strong and remarkable emotions through the diction,
dialogues, and extensive details. Danticat portrays this crucial issue through the ... Show more content

Even though Danticat does not present her father throughout her memoir, her diction of depicting her
father s imagery is powerful enough to convey a culture and life of an immigrant that other
immigrants can relate to. Yet, society still imposes negativity and alienation towards the immigrants
community simply because they do not understand other supreme cultures in a different country.
Danticat yearns to connect that facet with her father s experiences of living and working in the U.S. in
order to formulate the notion of working hard and striving for a better life, despite the hardship that
society places upon him. With the understanding of what Danticat wants to impart in her memoir, the
portrayal of immigrants that is often presented via social medias and news is still inadequate to elevate
the significance of the culture of immigrants and lower class people. Despite the challenges that
immigrants have to face in order to enter a better country, there is still hope for them to progress

Examples Of Civil Disobedience In Antigone
Eye catcher... Civil disobedience is an active refusal to obey (laws, demands, and commands). It can
be from disagreeing with your parents to breaking a law. Civil disobedience is a negative force when
the public is misinformed, breaking laws, punishments way out of hand for the situation, and
misinterpret what is or is not civil.
Transition... When the public is misinformed problems occur. People may think something is civil
disobedience when it actually is civil. For example in Antigone, Creon is misinformed what really
happened to Poloneses body. He first thinks it s a man and done because of a bet. Later to find out,
one of the sister of Poloneses buried her brother out of love breaking the law that Creon put in place.

In the movie Cool Hand Luke, Luke is punished and put in a wooden box for his mother passing away.
He didn t show any signs of running away or violence; so therefore, there was no reason for him to be
punished. After that, Luke started misbehaving and ran away over and over. Another view of this is in
Antigone; when Antigone is punished for burying her brother out of love because her uncle didn t. She
got punished and locked away in a rock jail. She ended up killing herself. Soon after her uncle s son;
which was her lover; found her body and killed himself for what his father did.
Transition... Being civil is normally is very misunderstood by the public. In the story of vendetta she
says she want revenge on a guy and starts to train a dog. She trained a dog to kill on a demand. She
felt it was okay since she wasn t the one killing him, the dog was. Another case when this implied is in
Antigone: Creon felt it was okay to blame one of the brothers for fighting and not give him a funeral.
He also felt that whoever went against him should get punished. Transition... Civil disobedience in the
end is a very negative thing. People should not go against the laws or demands given because most
cases it goes out of hand. There are very few cases that it is for a good

Vegetarian Experiment Summary
In this lab, we conducted multiple experiments on planarians and examined their reactions toward
variety of stimuli. First and foremost, we have to be able to identify the fundamental structure of the
planarians; especially the nervous system. Planarians are grouped into Class Turbellaria. They have a
central nervous system that consists of 2 to 6 ventral nerve cords and subepideral nerve net also
known as cephalization. Cephalization is more advanced because the system now has more neurons,
sense cells, larger ganglia compared to the simple nerve net system. The ventral nerve cords are
connected to ganglia that lay interiorly to the ventral epidermis that close to the midline and run the
length of the body (Scott, 2014, p. 54). The information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, we still have not understood how planarians respond to food. One experiment was
conducted to observe the reactions of planarians toward food or chemical stimuli. When four
planarians were exposed to four different food source, 43% of the planarians moved to the first
location (squash baby food). 25% moved to the second location (chicken baby food), 2% moved to the
third location (control group), and 29% moved to the fourth location (mixture of squash and chicken
baby food). According to Inoue, planarians will release chemotaxis as a response when they are
exposed to chemical. In this case, planarians will operate the chemoreceptors to identify the location
of the food. When four planarians were placed in the middle, they quickly marked their destinations.
They would continue to move until they reach the place with high solute concentration. In this
experiment, we do not know if the all the planarians were hungry or full. For some of the planarians
that quickly moved away, we can determine that they were hungry. And when they sensory cells detect
the chemical, they quickly reacted. However, planarians references of food are not important in this
case. Despite the fact that all the foods are different, planarians might tend to move toward to places
that closest to them or sense the strongest chemical signal from. As we know that planarians are
carnivores, they prefer to feed on organic compounds and

I decided to go to two different public places where I know a lot of people would be present. The first

Case Study Of BCCI Fraud
The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) fraud was a major international banking
fraud which resulted in the collapse of the bank in 1991. The estimated amount involving the fraud
was around £800 million at that time. The bank was operating in 78 countries with around 400
branches and it attracted mainly Asian communities as their customers. As a result of the collapse of
the bank, hundreds of thousands of people around the world lost their savings. It also included local
councils such as Western Isles, Westminster City and Harlow. The case attracted the media spotlight
and caused great concern in political circles and in the banking sector.
The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its corporate structure and
its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early days. Even in later days, it was very hard for
regulators to bring BCCI to the book. However, many public outcry and ethical concerns raised by
other parts of the banking industry made regulators in America and Britain take stock of the situation.

whether caves, lakes, deserts, outcroppings, or something else entirely, hold tremendous relevance for
the groups that dwell near them. Such beliefs in the worth and importance of such sites are entrusted
from one passing generation to the next. These beliefs, and the physical objects they rest upon,
become increasingly vital to that group s identity as a people. One such group is the Teton Lakota of
the Sioux Nation in South Dakota, an area that has been home to them for hundreds of years and,
while their entire homeland is precious to them, of particular importance are the Black Hills, or Paha
Sapa as they are called in Lakota.
The Black Hills are an isolated mountain range rising 3000 to 4000 feet above the surrounding plains
of South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana (Sundstrom et al. 1996). The importance of this land to the
Sioux Nation goes beyond dedication to the place they have lived in for generations. The Lakota
creation story itself incorporates the Black Hills in particular as central to their identity as a people.
The Black Hills are not only regarded as the birthplace of Sioux culture in religious songs and
legends, but as the first place created on Earth literally the heart of the Earth, which is seen as Mother.
Sioux spiritual lore utilizes metaphor both to explain and to embody the thing signified the Black Hills
are the heart of the Earth, and that concept is

Analysis Of Killing Patton By Bill O Reilly
Our history is what has shaped the world into what it is today for better or worse. There have been
many turning points in our history that have dramatically impacted the world we live in. World War Ⅱ
was a pinnacle point in recent history that brought about genocide, modern warfare and the nuclear
age. This was a tragic war that introduced some of the deadliest weapons the world has ever seen, as
well as manufacturing mass murder. But World War Ⅱ also brought about many changes in the world,
specifically in America. Women played important roles in the workforce for the first time and finally
had a sense of independence. America was able to unite as a country and manufacture goods on a scale
that will probably never be seen again. Her full ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after the war, the infamous general was involved in a car accident that paralyzed him from the
waist down. A few days later, a man who saw so much death on the battlefields of Europe and Africa
died in the most pedestrian way. In this book, rumors that the Russians along with the head of the U.S.
government s OSS unit conspired to kill Patton to put an end to his outspoken disapproval of Stalin
and the Russians.
The time period this novel takes place in is towards the end of World War Ⅱ around 1944 and the
months after the war is over. It begins around the time the Allied troops have liberated France are
pushing eastward towards the Fatherland. Hitler and the Nazi s are on their heels and are planning on
launching a desperate last attack that will be known as the Battle of the Bulge. The Allied troops have
come to a halt to regroup and Hitler is using this as the prime time to launch a secret attack of more
than two hundred and fifty thousand soldiers on the Allies. Germany eventually ends up losing the
battle and eventually the war. From there, the book talks about General Patton s post war actions and
his sudden death and the conspiracies behind it.
Geographically, the book moves from place to place. It talks about past events in Africa and present
events in Europe. Much of the story takes place at Fort Driant where Patton is trying to take control of
the fort from

Historical Analogy of the First and Second Continental...
HISTORICAL ANALOGY OF THE FIRST AND SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS
Introduction CONTINENTAL CONGRESS, 1ST (1774) AND 2ND (1775 1781). The political state of
affairs in Massachusetts produced by the English Coercive Acts, that had been approved in reaction to
the Boston Tea Party, riled up such radical New York patriot leaders as Alexander McDougall and
Isaac Sears and to suggest the assembly of a general colonial congress to the Boston Committee of
Correspondence. The Massachusetts General Assembly recommended in June 1774 that a broad
congress be convened in Philadelphia to talk about relations among Parliament and the American
colonies. The first Continental Congress took place in Philadelphia on September 5, 1774, with every
one of the colonies with the exception of Georgia represented. In the whole span of American history,
there has in no way been, a more inspiring congregation of luminous statesmen. One of the most
significant features of the first Continental Congress was that New England and southern patriot
leaders revealed that they may possibly work with each another in the quest for universal objectives.
During the first Continental Congress, representatives measured four chief items of business.
Representatives of the Massachusetts General Assembly, convening in Suffolk County, Massachusetts,
accepted a string of resolutions announcing the Coercive Acts in opposition to the British
Constitution; suggestive of arrangement of a new government in Massachusetts with

Arguments Against Abortion
Introduction Although, currently legalized, abortion continues to be a burdening ethical issue in
America. From 1973 to 2011 approximately 53 million legal abortions were performed in the United
States (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman s choice and a
protected personal right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority (Procon.org,
2015, p.1). However, Pro Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very moment of
conception and thus an abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being (Procon.org, 2015,
p.1). Thus, there are various arguments to be considered on both sides.

Pro Life supporters insist that a child is considered a human being at the very moment of conception.
Thus, abortion is murder and is unethical because the right to live was stripped from the child. A child
can be aborted up to 24 weeks of life and in some states later (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Furthermore, a
fetus does feel pain during the abortion procedure because by eight weeks the most primitive response
to pain, the spinal reflex, is developed (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Moreover, the psychological affects of
an abortion can be overwhelming such as increased depression and anxiety (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). A
2002 peer reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal... found that women who
aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term (Procon.org, 2015,
p.1). Pro Life supporters believe women must not be able to use an abortion as a means of
contraception. If one becomes pregnant, one must be responsible for the child they have brought to the
world. Thousands of families desire to adopt children, thus abortion significantly reduces the number
of adoptable babies (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Lastly, abortion promotes a culture in which human life is
disposable and it is acceptable to rid of a life that inconveniences you (Procon.org, 2015,

Analysis Of Words I Never Said By Lupe Fiasco
One of the many contentious issues raised and attacked in Words I Never Said by Lupe Fiasco is the
issue of America s war on terror, claiming that the idea of terror is used as a front to dominate the
Middle East for political and economical reasons, decreasing civil liberties and controlling the world s
supply of oil. This view is one held by millions, claiming that such force isn t needed to weed out a
flimsy opposition. A radical theory held by some is addressed a few lines later, asking if it was the US
government that orchestrated 9/11. Although I disagree with this claim that it was an inside job, I do
believe that the grief and fear of the American people was falsely harnessed and targeted to spread
America s dominance across the globe,

Monarch Butterflies Population Decline
The population numbers of the beloved Monarch Butterfly are rapidly decreasing, and scientists are
working hard this September to save the species. Monarch butterflies depend solely on the milkweed
plant to survive. Milkweed, however, has been disappearing like crazy due especially to increased use
of the weed killer Roundup over the past ten to twenty years. That, combined with more general trends
of habitat loss, various effects of climate change, and challenges like the drought in California, has
spelled out around a ninety percent population decline for monarchs in the past twenty years.
Scientists currently estimate a global population of around 33 million monarch butterflies, down from
over one billion in the past. Monarch Migration Season ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine
The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars
and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine
tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body
cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the
bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas.
The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each
comprised of intralobular and interlobular components.
The acinar cells secrete digestive enzymes, which are also synthesized here. The name of these
enzyme secreting units comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These epithelial cells protrude short microvilli from their surface, which contain an abundance of
secretory granules, secreting fluids, which make up the majority of pancreatic juices. Epithelial cells
found in the main pancreatic duct are analogous in structure to those of the interlobular ducts. Both
sections of the duct system have thick, collagenous walls. Leakage prevention of the duct system is
carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells.
The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. Hence,
allowing the pancreatic juices to be transported to the gall bladder to fuse with bile, aiding in digestion
and neutralization of gastric acids.
In the case of the exocrine glands, secretions consist of aqueous mixtures. Enzyme secretion in the
pancreas is stimulated by the vagus and a hormone called pancreozymin, which is formed when it is
exposed to proteoses or peptones. The pancreas releases 1000 to 1500 ml of pancreatic juice into the
pancreatic duct each day. Secretions of the pancreas consists of two principal constituents, an alkaline
fluid and enzymes such as lipase, protease and α amylase that are necessary for digestion of fats,
proteins and carbohydrates in vertebrates respectively. Other enzymes present include trypsin,
chymotrypsin and colipase.
The pancreas secretes most of these enzymes as inactive precursors

Essay on Effective Listening
Effective Listening
The ability to listen well is an important tool for understanding others. Sadly, very few people know
how to listen well. In fact, most people can think of only one or two good listeners in their lives.
Listening is not simply agreeing it is much more. Good listeners are able to better understand and
respond to others, complete assignments accurately, settle disagreements before they escalate, and
establish rapport with difficult people.
Listening is often confused with hearing. This serious misconception can lead us to believe that good
listening is instinctive. In fact, good listening is an active, sophisticated process a learned behavior
that demands focus and attention. Listening takes place on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Content listening can lead to serious misunderstandings and is especially deceptive because it appears
the listener is tuned in.
Superficial Listeners
Superficial listeners are often judging, daydreaming, or rehersing their response this is essentially
hearing, not listening. The listener is tuning in and out thinking little of the talker, and mainly listening
for a chance to jump in and take over the conversation. People who listen at this level are pretending
to listen and are often quiet and passive.
To achieve deep listening, the listener must take on certain responsibilities to help the talker and to
ensure that there is agreement about the interpretation and intent of a message. Specifically, the
listener must focus on the talker and pay close attention to what is being said. Strive to understand the
meaning of the message and respond accordingly. Keep in mind that the response lets the talker know
whether or not the message is getting through and allows him or her to adjust the message
accordingly.
Listener Responsibilities
Determine the talker s needs during the interaction. At the beginning of a conversation, the talker may
be tentative and not say what he or she means. Whether he or she continues often depends on the
listener s initial response. Stay neutral and try to listen objectively. Direct, clear communication rarely
occurs when information flows one way. Listening blocks are obstacles that interfere with our
listening they

Ewah Research Paper
Growing up in the south we tend to create and use colorful vocabulary. We have y all, darn tootin,
fixin to and among others cattywampus. Cattywampus is a word that I have grown up hearing in my
house. To me it means messy, disorganized, and to say the least discombobulated. The etymology of a
word does not always have to be symbolic; sometimes there is an actual historical story behind it. My
mom still tells me today that my room, car, or myself are all cattywampus and that I should fix it. In
Cherokee folklore, there is a beast which lurks at night called Ewah or wampus cat. Ewah was a
woman who disguised herself in the skin of a cougar to spy on the men of the tribe. The men would sit
around the campfire with their wolf brothers , and tell sacred stories on their journeys or hunting trips
(Anderson). While spying on the men, she was discovered. The men took her to the tribe s medicine
man/ shaman; the shaman punished her by transforming her into what she disguised herself as...half
woman, half cat (Conley). Looking out of sorts, crazy, and chaotic, Ewah was enraged by her curse;
she ran into the woods, never to be seen again. Supposedly Ewah still haunts the forests of East
Tennessee and the edge of Carolina waiting to exact her revenge. ... Show more content on

The Book Of Ser Marco Polo
The Book of Ser Marco Polo is a thirteenth century edition that was transcribed by Marco Polo s cell
mate and was later translated by Henry Yule (266). Marco Polo is a son to Nicolo Polo a trader who
entered the city of Cambaluc a center of Chinese civilization in the Yuan period (266). Marco was
subsequently captured and put in prison and this book was created out of the stories he was telling his
cell mate while they were passing time at the Genoese prison (266). By reading through this book; we
can explore more about its content plus citation, its communication as well as context, and its
connection and conclusion (266). The first items the author portrays in this document are its contents
plus citation. In the contents section, the main ideas depicted are idolatry, innovations, and the
superstition (275). For instance, it was narrated that the people within the society at that time practiced
Idolatry. They loved and adore their rule the Great Khan, to extend that some were calling him lord of
lords, but his real name was Cublay (266).The worshipping of the leader in the society also can be
seen during ceremonies like birthdays that were held at the court. For example, at any court occasion,
the leader s table was elevated above the others and at some point people could drop on their knees to
make a deeper obeisance before him (269).The narrator also indicates that Cathayans were idolaters,
because they posses gods and as regards to their gods, each god had a table

Development Of The Vienna Secession
Development of the Vienna Secession
The establishment of the Viennese Secession in 1897 marked the genesis of modern art in Austria a
nation at the time known for its strong holdings on conservative traditions and values. It was the first
movement of artists and designers who were devoted to the renewal of art s meaning the projection of
inner states of emotion. Led by Gustav Klimt, the Secession was the most influential breakaway;
rejecting the revivalist styles endorsed by the conservative academies, the group promoted an art that
would celebrity modernity. The Secession was largely attributed for the responsibility of the rise to
international fame of several of its members, including Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Koloman
Moser and Josef Hoffman, who helped Austrian art become renowned once again. There were no
unifying characteristics between paintings or sculptures, or even architecture: instead, its members
were committed to the ideal of modernizing Austrian art by acquainting it with latest modern art
movements Art Nouveau, Post Impressionism and Expressionism. The initial movement was short
lived. By 1905, there were internal divisions ultimately fracturing the group s monopoly on the scene
for contemporary and decorative arts (Rosenman). However, the Secession was vital for the promotion
of Austrian contemporary art.

Difference Between Pharmacy And Clinical Pharmacy
Retail vs. Clinical Pharmacy
Options abound in the field of pharmacy. Two popular paths in pharmacy are clinical (or hospital)
pharmacy and retail (or community) pharmacy. Retail pharmacists work either at a pharmacy in a
store or at an independently owned pharmacy, while clinical pharmacists work directly with
physicians and patients in a hospital or other health care facility ( What Pharmacists Do ). Both
clinical and retail pharmacy jobs have their specific benefits and drawbacks, but retail pharmacy is
more advantageous to a recent pharmacy graduate pursuing this career.
Retail pharmacy involves less stress than clinical pharmacy. In retail, the pharmacist s main task is
issuing medication to customers ( What Pharmacists Do ). They stock and label medications, fill
prescriptions, direct customers about the use of the drugs, give them general medical advice, and
answer questions they might have about over the counter medicine ( What Pharmacists Do ).
Likewise, clinical pharmacists work with customers, which are in this case the patients, but they also
interact personally with doctors; in the hospital, some pharmacists may even go on patient rounds with
them ( What Pharmacists Do ). Clinical pharmacy entails consulting with doctors about medications
and recommending a course of action, not just filling prescriptions ( What Pharmacists Do ). Both
clinical and retail pharmacy jobs require patience and a love for helping people, but a clinical position
may be more stressful

Taking a Look at Politics in Thailand
Political chaos , protesting , turmoil , and crisis are all words that can be linked to Thailand in recent
weeks and on and off over the last eight years. From November 2013 until February 2014, there was
constant distress throughout the country relating to the current political system and the leaders of
Thailand. People were flooding the streets in Bangkok to protest the government or waving Thai flags
to show support of Thailand.
All across Thailand people were upset with the government and showing it by protesting in the capital
city of Bangkok. The reason for this unrest to spread through the country is an amnesty bill proposed
to the parliament of Thailand. This bill would allow the self exiled former, Prime Minister Thaksin to
return to Thailand without being punished for the crimes he had been charged of. The current Prime
Minister Yingluck is actually Thaksin s sister and many people feel she does whatever Thaksin asks
her to do. Thaksin was part of an extremely corrupt government and thousands of people were angered
when they heard that he could be allowed back into the country as a free man.
The role of the King of Thailand is important to understand the different priorities of the protesters.
The current King is beloved by all in Thailand and he is respected as much as the gods in their
religion. If anything bad is said about the King, the speaker can be given a jail sentence. The King

Value Of Hard Work Essay
Hard work equals success in many people s eyes. Experiencing work with family, school, and in the
workplace has shown me the importance of hard work and dedication. Along with with that, I have
gained responsibility, experience, and balance. Although my experience has shown me the importance
of hard work and dedication, it has also helped me distinguish the risk of how the the value of work
can be taken for granted. I have not always had the right attitude towards work as a whole, but I have
learned to love the idea and application of it; with exceptions. As a child, up until a certain point, I
have always worked with my father in the restaurant business. My dad fell in love with the restaurant
business when he was younger. His dream was to own as many restaurants as he could. The business
started off small, but his dream came true overtime. We went from waking up every morning in the
summer selling tacos; to waking up and prepping for opening at Hit The Spot Cafe . I hated waking up
so early, but my dad said I didn t have a choice. He gets up every day whether he feels like it or not.
My father has always worked nonstop, and he s the type to keep himself busy. Over the years I ve
learned within my experience growing up in such a business, and possibly most; it can be tough.
Working with my dad taught me the value of working hard. His dedication inspired me to wish to
become just as focused with work. In all of the jobs I ve acquired outside of my dad s business, I gave

Questions On Increasing Disciplinary Reading
1. Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to this section that as
students progress up through the grades their reading in content area courses becomes progressively
more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade science course will encounter different terminology
in a fourth grade social studies course and even more diverse terminology by the time they reach high
school biology. However, I have often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as acknowledges that many
schools do not focus on reading instruction across content areas. Biancarosa elaborates, too often,
schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning processes, strategies, and rules for
achieving comprehension vary across the content areas (p. 47). In order to develop adolescents
literacy skills we need to increase their interaction with diverse disciplinary texts. Looking at this from
the higher education lens, once a student moves from the college prep classroom to the collegiate
environment they will be required to demonstrate comprehension and research skills in their
specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K 12 arena can do to assist them for
this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts during the duration of their elementary
and secondary school years.
2. Help Students Achieve Proficiency in Digital Reading This was rather a common sense

Adam, they are by nature evil. Despite the fact that people know right and evil, by choosing to do the
right thing they do not become righteous. They are only transformed into righteousness by accepting
the transforming grace of Christ. Judaists on the other hand believe that is man has been given the
freedom of choice. They are thus responsible for their actions whether good or bad. A person should
choose good from bad. They also believe that it is possible to become holy by following all the rules
that have been put in place (Chilton 2012). For instance, the Jews hold a ceremony every year where
they pray and fast to gain forgiveness. People who participate in this ceremony are written in the book

Jesus is the only one who can see through a person deeds and read the nature of their hearts. No man

Initial literacy assessment report
For this semester of TCH 209 I am working with a second grade girl named Yainany. After taking a
few running records I found out that she is at a level H reading level which would be the equivalent of
a high first grade reader. To get to know my student I printed out a reading survey and a get to know
you worksheet. The reading survey was asking questions about what genres of books she likes, what
are some of her favorite things (books, tv shows, animals, sports, characters, jobs, activities), if
reading is fun for her, if reading is easy for her, if she reads at home, and how she likes to read. The
get to know you worksheet had her color her own person based on some of her favorite things like her
favorite color, if she likes to read, her favorite subject, the color of her eyes, and how many siblings
she has. These helped me get to know her as a reader and as a person by knowing how she reads and
what interests her. One assessment that I did with my student was three running records. I did a Level
J book, a Level I, and a Level H book. For the first book, Level J, she got an 85% which was not high
enough to be her reading level. I then went to a Level I book and she got an 92% which was still not
high enough to be her reading level. The last book I did in my running records assessment was the
Level H book and with that book she got a 95% which was high enough to be her reading level and
she does a great job reading books at that level.

thermonuclear war. In October 1962, the world watched perilously, as U.S. president John F. Kennedy
warned his people of the amalgamation of Soviet arms in Cuba. John F. Kennedy refused to accept
offensive Soviet artillery in such close proximity to the U.S., but Soviet chairman Nikita Khrushchev
had already planned a stealthily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reasons why McNamara and Kennedy and other U.S. politicians were so fearful of a nuclear was
because according to U.S. analysts at the time, the 24 MRBM s (Medium range ballistic missiles) and
sixteen IRBM s (intermediate range ballistic missiles) that were found in Cuba had significantly
increased the number of U.S. targets that the Soviet s could lethally attack by forty percent.[8]
Furthermore, having missiles within Cuba allowed the Soviets to bypass the U.S. warning radars,
especially the Ballistics Missile Early Warning system, which was stationed in the North Pole.[9] By
bypassing the U.S. warning radars, it certainly amplified the risk of a surprise strike upon certain
American air bases and important command posts.[10] To address this risk, the U.S. army went from
Defence Condition Five (peacetime alert) to Defcon 3 (war alert) which further illustrated the high
levels of precautions the U.S. government were taking in order to protect itself from an offensive
attack from the Soviet.[11] It was quite clear from these precautions that the impending nuclear threat
in Cuba threatened the lives of American civilians, troops, and government officials. In the event that
the situation escalated out of control, the two world superpowers could have engaged in a third World
War that, with nuclear technology had the potential to kill hundreds of millions of civilians and
soldiers.[12] Fortunately, the Cuban Mission Crisis never escalated this

The Environmental Issue Of The Wildfires
What is the single most environmental issue that is plaguing the eastern half of the world? The raging
fires in Indonesia and Asia. These fires are releasing more CO2 and other toxic chemicals in a few
months than most countries do all year. The fires are also producing a thick smoky haze that is
clouding the entire area. What is the exact cause of this problem? Scientists are quick to point out
several causes, but one that is standing out is the defiant act of setting ablaze fields for the use of
farmland.
The Indonesian government has taken a stand against the fire, but has done nothing to actually stop
the farmers from destroying the land. The actual problem is that the farmers are burning their land to
make way for their crops. The farmers not only set the fires in the first place, but also chop down trees
to make land open for crops. This deforestation adds to the problem because they just let the trees lay
and the wood tries and is perfect kindling for the fires. This logging for the way of plantations is one
cause that is leading the way. The government has no real reason to stop the farmers because they are
bringing in the money for the country. This use of fire is a ?cheap and often illegal way of clearing
land.? (http://forests.lic.wisc.edu/ric/wrr37/fires.htm) This shows the blahtent disregard for nature and
the entire community. If the farmers only had the means to clear their land in a way that didn?t cause
such a destructive effect on the earth there wouldn?t

Pros And Cons Of Tasers
In this current period of time, police men and women have an even bigger target on their backs
compared to times of the past. In the past year, we as students have had a very unique opportunity as
criminal justice majors to see some interesting events unfold, such as the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, a
number of allegedly wrongful deaths done by the police s hands, to the riots in Baltimore. With all of
this happening, I feel that the use of technology and militarization is beneficial to the men and women
across America who serve as police officers. Along with this, not only is it more beneficial to police,
but it could be more beneficial to civilians as well. For Example, one of the new advances that police
use that are beneficial are tasers. Tasers are less lethal compared to firearms, but are effective enough
to subdue a suspect. Of course there are critics of taser use, but more concrete studies show increased
level of suspect resistance are generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Protection of the people is one of the police s most important jobs, and if that means we adopt a more
militaristic style of policing compared to a more community based policing style, then so be it. For
example, a study was done on the Long Beach Police and found the department became more focused
on tactical concerns such as patrol and counter terrorism while abandoning policing activities such as
foot patrol. (Lee, 2010). Now, I am not an expert on the crime patterns in Long Beach, however, I
believe it would be safe to say the crime levels have dropped due to the militarization, as would be
criminals may be more likely to wimp out , knowing the police have the weapons they need in order to
stop them. Finally, with all of the tools available to the police in this time of militarization, they should
be able to handle just about any situation that they may come into contact with, which is a very good

Six Sigma and Project Management
Six Sigma and Project Management
Project Management in Business and Technology, Section 02
Introduction
Sigma is a symbol for a unit of measure which measures how much a process deviates from
perfection. With the increase in demand for quality products/services, several organizations look for
ways to improve their performance to meet customer s expectations. Six Sigma is considered to be an
approach which blends the components of quality management and business process re engineering.
Six Sigma s aim is to increase the efficiency and remove waste, thereby increasing the customer
satisfaction. There are many myths about Six Sigma:
a) It s only concerned with reducing defects
b) It is a process for production
c) It can t be applied to engineering activities
d) It is just a training process
e) It is a new concept
History of Six Sigma
Since 1920 s the term sigma is used by mathematician s measurement unit in product quality
measurement. In mid 1980 s, engineers at Motorola Inc. coined the term Six Sigma which they used it
informally as an in house initiative to increase the quality for reducing the defects in the production
process. Initially the engineers measured the defects in terms of thousands which gradually increased
to defects per million . This prompted the use of Six Sigma technology and idea of branding Six
Sigma. A company is Six Sigma certified if it could limit its flaws up to 3.4 defects per million.
In 1991, Motorola introduced his first

Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation
When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful emissions which
contribute to global warming or climate change. Well, this is true. Motor vehicles account for about
half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the United States. A large part of these toxic air pollutants is
the need to rely on oil as a fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of energy for things
like automobiles, when there are other alternatives like electric vehicles, creates many problems
within our society. The United States dependency on oil causes incidents like the Deepwater Horizon.
The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9 million barrels and polluted the area significantly.

Automobiles have since evolved and become almost a necessity for people. While they have become
of major importance, they also hold many drawbacks to our environment. They are the leading cause
of transportation emissions and they generate a majority of America s global warming emissions. Even
though air pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped considerably since 1950,
Automobiles still produce about 60% of US transportation emissions and generate nearly 30% of
America s global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global Warming). The average conventional
automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient. Compared to a hybrid electric vehicle, conventional
cars produce about 1.5 times more greenhouse gas emissions and costs more in fuel costs. Within a
100 mile trip, conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2, hybrid electric vehicles produce 57 lb
CO2, plug in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and all electric vehicles produce 54 lb CO2
(see table 1). This shows that hybrid and electric cars produce less greenhouse gas emissions and costs
less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure gas powered vehicle.

Emissions and fuel cost for a 100 mile trip between conventional, hybrid electric, plug in hybrid
electric, and all electric vehicles.

  • 2. Ethanol And Fuel Properties Of Ethanol Ethanol contains a two carbon alcohol and six hydrogen (C2H6O) and has low cetane number (8), low heating value (26.8) and low viscosity (1.08) at 40. Table 5. shows the properties of diesel, gasoline, ethanol, acetone and butanol. Furthermore, the stability of any blend is an im portant factor in fuel properties. The most significant issue of using ethanol with diesel is solu bility and miscibility. Therefore, the use of biodiesel is an important method to stabilise ethanol in diesel [119, 124]. In order to maintain the stability of ethanol diesel blends, two types of additive methodologies are normally employed: the addition of surfactants (emulsifiers) that yield stable emulsions or micro emulsion, and the addition of co solvent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effects of adding of vegetable methyl ester to diesel ethanol blends were studied by Chen et al. [152], who observed that the addition of ester to diesel ethanol blends prevents phase separation up to 30% by volume to maintain the homogeneity of blends Other significant research has undertaken by Barabás et al. [119] who investigated to 27 mix ture samples of ethanol, biodiesel and diesel in different ratios. The experiments showed that only seven samples were suitable in terms of miscibility and stability and two samples (B10D85E5 and B25D70E5) could successfully replace diesel. 4.2.2 Ethanol blend Tested in CI Engines Blending ethanol with diesel fuel has several issues in terms of performance and emission lev els. A number of studies have examined the effect of ethanol on thermal efficiency, brake power, fuel consumption and emission levels. Some research [114, 120, 125, 126] obtained dif ferent results in terms of performance and emission levels. Most of this research agreed that ethanol causes an increase in fuel consumption (BSFC) and a decrease in the efficiency of the diesel engines. Chen et al. [120] showed that ethanol could decrease some types of emissions such as smoke and PM because high oxygen content helps to complete the combustion. When vegetable methyl ester was added to ... • 3. Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder According to a definition in the Merriam Webster Dictionary, beauty is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit. With this definition, it can be said that beautiful things may include, but not limited to, natural sceneries, classical music, and the taste of a quality dish since these stimulate pleasure. An Irish romance novelist, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (1878) stated in his novel entitled Molly Bawn that Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Water And Water Pollution In The St. Johns River The St. Johns River is suffering from a significant environmental disaster because of toxic substances from municipal and industrial wastewater, fertilizer runoff, failing septic tanks, and stormwater. Consequently, over 55% of the river miles, 80.4% of acres of large water bodies, 59.4 % of estuaries, and 31.4% of coastline miles do not meet water quality standards in Florida (Florida Department of Environmental Protection 119). For that matter, studying those pollution problems that the river faces is vital since one can use this information to salvage the natural resource which is at the brink of destruction. Often, toxic substances are being drained into the air, waterways, and undergrounds wells. According to the report by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over 60 million pounds of deadly chemicals are produced by industries in Florida. Notably, Florida s water has been suffering mercury contamination until the state s department of migration issues a circular regularly for regulations of eating freshwater fish in the region (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). There were many events that led to the great Depression, what were at the important factors that brought the Depression to an end? A man by the name of Franklin Delano Roosevelt was pivotal in bringing the nation a mindset of hope, his New Deal brought about change and the beginning of World War II all contributed to ending the Great Depression. The collapse of the Stock Market in October 1929 began when 16,410,030 shares of stock were sold off in a single day and the market lost $14 billion in value, nearly five times more than the annual budget of the United States, capping off a week in which the market lost 39.6% of its value between October 24th and October 29th. Many economists simply considered this part of the normal business cycle and believed that intervening to stop or reverse it would cause even greater problems. By July 8, 1932, when the market finally hit its bottom, it had lost a stunning 89% of its pre crash October 23, 1929 value. Nobody ever died of divorce, states Jennifer Weiner, a New York Times Bestselling author, in her novel, Fly Away Home. Although Weiner has a point in voicing that a dispirited and forlorn relationship can corrupt the innocent mentality of children, it is vital that she also considers the darker, more sinister side of divorce. To put the term divorce simply, it is what husband and wife do together when they no longer wish to do anything together (Yantiss). If one has children, they must pay for child support, a court ordered payment to support the children of divorced families, in addition to other fees, including payment for a separate house, or apartment, and other expenses if an adult has custody, or shares custody of their children. Some will insist that this doesn t have much of an effect on richer couples, but it s crucial that one remembers that both of the people involved in the divorce don t automatically stay the way they are, even if they re rich and extremely wealthy. They won t both maintain the same standard of living as they had before, so divorce actually does have a financial effect on everybody, no matter the richer or the poorer the person is. Essentially, the income that used to support any household now must stretch and break up to support two. No 19th century writer had greater psychological insight or philosophical depth. None speaks more immediately and passionately to the mood and tone of the present century. This essay will discuss how Dostoyevsky s intent to portray a truly beautiful soul manifests itself in the novel The Idiot, and access Dostoyevsky s success or failure in achieving his intention. This would suggest that Myshkin could not possibly embody beauty since he is ineffectual and destructive and ultimately inadvertently assists a murder of a physically beautiful woman. I will try to show in my essay though that although this is a deliberately pessimistic and truthful hypothesis, Dostoyevsky does portray a truly beautiful soul . The proposal of The Idiot is to expose the contradiction between worldly and heavenly values: a saint , like Prince Myshkin, is considered an idiot . He doesn t see what everybody sees, because he has got his eyes set not in other people s faces, but in their souls. Just like the author, he is a psychologist: and a psychologist not only with a complete understanding of every individual s minds, but also full of compassion for each one of their failures. Once again, we see the triad compassion/forgiveness/love as the main message of the book. Prince Myshkin is Dostoyevsky s positive character. He is an ideal Christian and lives by the virtue of such ideals. He is compassionate, benevolent, patient and forgiving. He arrives in Russia at the age of twenty six having spent four years in Switzerland treating his epilepsy and mental illness. He refers to himself as an idiot because of this illness. First and foremost, we have to be able to identify the fundamental structure of the planarians; especially the nervous system. Planarians are grouped into Class Turbellaria. They have a central nervous system that consists of 2 to 6 ventral nerve cords and subepideral nerve net also known as cephalization. Cephalization is more advanced because the system now has more neurons, sense cells, larger ganglia compared to the simple nerve net system. According to Inoue, planarians will release chemotaxis as a response when they are exposed to chemical. In this case, planarians will operate the chemoreceptors to identify the location of the food. When four planarians were placed in the middle, they quickly marked their destinations. They would continue to move until they reach the place with high solute concentration. In this experiment, we do not know if the all the planarians were hungry or full. For some of the planarians that quickly moved away, we can determine that they were hungry. And when they sensory cells detect the chemical, they quickly reacted. However, planarians references of food are not important in this case. • 19. Case Study Of BCCI Fraud The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) fraud was a major international banking fraud which resulted in the collapse of the bank in 1991. The estimated amount involving the fraud was around £800 million at that time. The bank was operating in 78 countries with around 400 branches and it attracted mainly Asian communities as their customers. As a result of the collapse of the bank, hundreds of thousands of people around the world lost their savings. It also included local councils such as Western Isles, Westminster City and Harlow. The case attracted the media spotlight and caused great concern in political circles and in the banking sector. The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its corporate structure and its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early days. Even in later days, it was very hard for regulators to bring BCCI to the book. However, many public outcry and ethical concerns raised by other parts of the banking industry made regulators in America and Britain take stock of the situation. Only after this, BCCI soon came under the scrutiny of numerous national and international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 20. The Lakota Sioux Of The Sioux Nation Of all the features upon the earth there are some ascribed with special significance. These features, whether caves, lakes, deserts, outcroppings, or something else entirely, hold tremendous relevance for the groups that dwell near them. Such beliefs in the worth and importance of such sites are entrusted from one passing generation to the next. These beliefs, and the physical objects they rest upon, become increasingly vital to that group s identity as a people. One such group is the Teton Lakota of the Sioux Nation in South Dakota, an area that has been home to them for hundreds of years and, while their entire homeland is precious to them, of particular importance are the Black Hills, or Paha Sapa as they are called in Lakota. The Black Hills are an isolated mountain range rising 3000 to 4000 feet above the surrounding plains of South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana (Sundstrom et al. 1996). The importance of this land to the Sioux Nation goes beyond dedication to the place they have lived in for generations. The Lakota creation story itself incorporates the Black Hills in particular as central to their identity as a people. The Black Hills are not only regarded as the birthplace of Sioux culture in religious songs and legends, but as the first place created on Earth literally the heart of the Earth, which is seen as Mother. • 21. Analysis Of Killing Patton By Bill O Reilly Our history is what has shaped the world into what it is today for better or worse. There have been many turning points in our history that have dramatically impacted the world we live in. World War Ⅱ was a pinnacle point in recent history that brought about genocide, modern warfare and the nuclear age. This was a tragic war that introduced some of the deadliest weapons the world has ever seen, as well as manufacturing mass murder. But World War Ⅱ also brought about many changes in the world, specifically in America. Women played important roles in the workforce for the first time and finally had a sense of independence. The time period this novel takes place in is towards the end of World War Ⅱ around 1944 and the months after the war is over. It begins around the time the Allied troops have liberated France are pushing eastward towards the Fatherland. Hitler and the Nazi s are on their heels and are planning on launching a desperate last attack that will be known as the Battle of the Bulge. The Allied troops have come to a halt to regroup and Hitler is using this as the prime time to launch a secret attack of more than two hundred and fifty thousand soldiers on the Allies. Germany eventually ends up losing the battle and eventually the war. From there, the book talks about General Patton s post war actions and his sudden death and the conspiracies behind it. The political state of affairs in Massachusetts produced by the English Coercive Acts, that had been approved in reaction to the Boston Tea Party, riled up such radical New York patriot leaders as Alexander McDougall and Isaac Sears and to suggest the assembly of a general colonial congress to the Boston Committee of Correspondence. The Massachusetts General Assembly recommended in June 1774 that a broad congress be convened in Philadelphia to talk about relations among Parliament and the American colonies. The first Continental Congress took place in Philadelphia on September 5, 1774, with every one of the colonies with the exception of Georgia represented. In the whole span of American history, there has in no way been, a more inspiring congregation of luminous statesmen. One of the most significant features of the first Continental Congress was that New England and southern patriot leaders revealed that they may possibly work with each another in the quest for universal objectives. During the first Continental Congress, representatives measured four chief items of business. Representatives of the Massachusetts General Assembly, convening in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, accepted a string of resolutions announcing the Coercive Acts in opposition to the British Constitution; suggestive of arrangement of a new government in Massachusetts with ... From 1973 to 2011 approximately 53 million legal abortions were performed in the United States (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman s choice and a protected personal right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). However, Pro Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very moment of conception and thus an abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Life supporters insist that a child is considered a human being at the very moment of conception. Thus, abortion is murder and is unethical because the right to live was stripped from the child. A child can be aborted up to 24 weeks of life and in some states later (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Furthermore, a fetus does feel pain during the abortion procedure because by eight weeks the most primitive response to pain, the spinal reflex, is developed (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Moreover, the psychological affects of an abortion can be overwhelming such as increased depression and anxiety (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). A 2002 peer reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal... found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Life supporters believe women must not be able to use an abortion as a means of contraception. If one becomes pregnant, one must be responsible for the child they have brought to the world. Thousands of families desire to adopt children, thus abortion significantly reduces the number of adoptable babies (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas. The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each comprised of intralobular and interlobular components. Leakage prevention of the duct system is carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells. The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. Hence, allowing the pancreatic juices to be transported to the gall bladder to fuse with bile, aiding in digestion and neutralization of gastric acids. Led by Gustav Klimt, the Secession was the most influential breakaway; rejecting the revivalist styles endorsed by the conservative academies, the group promoted an art that would celebrity modernity. The Secession was largely attributed for the responsibility of the rise to international fame of several of its members, including Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffman, who helped Austrian art become renowned once again. There were no unifying characteristics between paintings or sculptures, or even architecture: instead, its members were committed to the ideal of modernizing Austrian art by acquainting it with latest modern art movements Art Nouveau, Post Impressionism and Expressionism. The initial movement was short lived. By 1905, there were internal divisions ultimately fracturing the group s monopoly on the scene for contemporary and decorative arts (Rosenman). Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to this section that as students progress up through the grades their reading in content area courses becomes progressively more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade science course will encounter different terminology in a fourth grade social studies course and even more diverse terminology by the time they reach high school biology. However, I have often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as acknowledges that many schools do not focus on reading instruction across content areas. Biancarosa elaborates, too often, schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning processes, strategies, and rules for achieving comprehension vary across the content areas (p. 47). In order to develop adolescents literacy skills we need to increase their interaction with diverse disciplinary texts. Looking at this from the higher education lens, once a student moves from the college prep classroom to the collegiate environment they will be required to demonstrate comprehension and research skills in their specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K 12 arena can do to assist them for this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts during the duration of their elementary and secondary school years. 2. After taking a few running records I found out that she is at a level H reading level which would be the equivalent of a high first grade reader. To get to know my student I printed out a reading survey and a get to know you worksheet. The reading survey was asking questions about what genres of books she likes, what are some of her favorite things (books, tv shows, animals, sports, characters, jobs, activities), if reading is fun for her, if reading is easy for her, if she reads at home, and how she likes to read. The get to know you worksheet had her color her own person based on some of her favorite things like her favorite color, if she likes to read, her favorite subject, the color of her eyes, and how many siblings she has. I did a Level J book, a Level I, and a Level H book. For the first book, Level J, she got an 85% which was not high enough to be her reading level. I then went to a Level I book and she got an 92% which was still not high enough to be her reading level. The last book I did in my running records assessment was the Level H book and with that book she got a 95% which was high enough to be her reading level and she does a great job reading books at that level. ... • 40. How Did John F. Kennedy Act Through the Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban missile crisis of 1962 brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. What was at stake in the crisis, and how do you assess President Kennedy s response to Khrushchev s provocation? Was Kennedy prudent or rash, suitably tough or needlessly belligerent? By Jeremy Leung 299722 USA The World 131 236 The Cuban Missile Crisis was perhaps the closest that humankind had ever become to experiencing a thermonuclear war. In October 1962, the world watched perilously, as U.S. president John F. Kennedy warned his people of the amalgamation of Soviet arms in Cuba. John F. Kennedy refused to accept offensive Soviet artillery in such close proximity to the U.S., but Soviet chairman Nikita Khrushchev had already planned a stealthily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reasons why McNamara and Kennedy and other U.S. politicians were so fearful of a nuclear was because according to U.S. analysts at the time, the 24 MRBM s (Medium range ballistic missiles) and sixteen IRBM s (intermediate range ballistic missiles) that were found in Cuba had significantly increased the number of U.S. targets that the Soviet s could lethally attack by forty percent.[8] Furthermore, having missiles within Cuba allowed the Soviets to bypass the U.S. warning radars, especially the Ballistics Missile Early Warning system, which was stationed in the North Pole.[9] By bypassing the U.S. warning radars, it certainly amplified the risk of a surprise strike upon certain American air bases and important command posts.[10] To address this risk, the U.S. army went from Defence Condition Five (peacetime alert) to Defcon 3 (war alert) which further illustrated the high levels of precautions the U.S. government were taking in order to protect itself from an offensive attack from the Soviet.[11] It was quite clear from these precautions that the impending nuclear threat in Cuba threatened the lives of American civilians, troops, and government officials. In the event that the situation escalated out of control, the two world superpowers could have engaged in a third World War that, with nuclear technology had the potential to kill hundreds of millions of civilians and soldiers.[12] Fortunately, the Cuban Mission Crisis never escalated this ... • 41. The Environmental Issue Of The Wildfires What is the single most environmental issue that is plaguing the eastern half of the world? The raging fires in Indonesia and Asia. These fires are releasing more CO2 and other toxic chemicals in a few months than most countries do all year. The fires are also producing a thick smoky haze that is clouding the entire area. What is the exact cause of this problem? Scientists are quick to point out several causes, but one that is standing out is the defiant act of setting ablaze fields for the use of farmland. The Indonesian government has taken a stand against the fire, but has done nothing to actually stop the farmers from destroying the land. The actual problem is that the farmers are burning their land to make way for their crops. The farmers not only set the fires in the first place, but also chop down trees to make land open for crops. This deforestation adds to the problem because they just let the trees lay and the wood tries and is perfect kindling for the fires. This logging for the way of plantations is one cause that is leading the way. The government has no real reason to stop the farmers because they are bringing in the money for the country. This use of fire is a ?cheap and often illegal way of clearing land.? (http://forests.lic.wisc.edu/ric/wrr37/fires.htm) This shows the blahtent disregard for nature and the entire community. If the farmers only had the means to clear their land in a way that didn?t cause such a destructive effect on the earth there wouldn?t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Pros And Cons Of Tasers In this current period of time, police men and women have an even bigger target on their backs compared to times of the past. In the past year, we as students have had a very unique opportunity as criminal justice majors to see some interesting events unfold, such as the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, a number of allegedly wrongful deaths done by the police s hands, to the riots in Baltimore. With all of this happening, I feel that the use of technology and militarization is beneficial to the men and women across America who serve as police officers. Along with this, not only is it more beneficial to police, but it could be more beneficial to civilians as well. For Example, one of the new advances that police use that are beneficial are tasers. Tasers are less lethal compared to firearms, but are effective enough to subdue a suspect. Of course there are critics of taser use, but more concrete studies show increased level of suspect resistance are generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Protection of the people is one of the police s most important jobs, and if that means we adopt a more militaristic style of policing compared to a more community based policing style, then so be it. For example, a study was done on the Long Beach Police and found the department became more focused on tactical concerns such as patrol and counter terrorism while abandoning policing activities such as foot patrol. (Lee, 2010). Now, I am not an expert on the crime patterns in Long Beach, however, I believe it would be safe to say the crime levels have dropped due to the militarization, as would be criminals may be more likely to wimp out , knowing the police have the weapons they need in order to stop them. Finally, with all of the tools available to the police in this time of militarization, they should be able to handle just about any situation that they may come into contact with, which is a very good ... • 43. Six Sigma and Project Management Six Sigma and Project Management Project Management in Business and Technology, Section 02 Introduction Sigma is a symbol for a unit of measure which measures how much a process deviates from perfection. With the increase in demand for quality products/services, several organizations look for ways to improve their performance to meet customer s expectations. Six Sigma is considered to be an approach which blends the components of quality management and business process re engineering. Six Sigma s aim is to increase the efficiency and remove waste, thereby increasing the customer satisfaction. There are many myths about Six Sigma: a) It s only concerned with reducing defects b) It is a process for production c) It can t be applied to engineering activities d) It is just a training process e) It is a new concept History of Six Sigma Since 1920 s the term sigma is used by mathematician s measurement unit in product quality measurement. In mid 1980 s, engineers at Motorola Inc. coined the term Six Sigma which they used it informally as an in house initiative to increase the quality for reducing the defects in the production process. Initially the engineers measured the defects in terms of thousands which gradually increased to defects per million . This prompted the use of Six Sigma technology and idea of branding Six Sigma. A company is Six Sigma certified if it could limit its flaws up to 3.4 defects per million. In 1991, Motorola introduced his first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful emissions which contribute to global warming or climate change. Well, this is true. Motor vehicles account for about half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the United States. A large part of these toxic air pollutants is the need to rely on oil as a fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of energy for things like automobiles, when there are other alternatives like electric vehicles, creates many problems within our society. The United States dependency on oil causes incidents like the Deepwater Horizon. The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9 million barrels and polluted the area significantly. We as a country need to cut ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Automobiles have since evolved and become almost a necessity for people. While they have become of major importance, they also hold many drawbacks to our environment. They are the leading cause of transportation emissions and they generate a majority of America s global warming emissions. Even though air pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped considerably since 1950, Automobiles still produce about 60% of US transportation emissions and generate nearly 30% of America s global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global Warming). The average conventional automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient. Compared to a hybrid electric vehicle, conventional cars produce about 1.5 times more greenhouse gas emissions and costs more in fuel costs. Within a 100 mile trip, conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2, hybrid electric vehicles produce 57 lb CO2, plug in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and all electric vehicles produce 54 lb CO2 (see table 1). This shows that hybrid and electric cars produce less greenhouse gas emissions and costs less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure gas powered vehicle. Table 1 Emissions and fuel cost for a 100 mile trip between conventional, hybrid electric, plug in hybrid electric, and all electric vehicles.
