Social Exchange Theory Essays
Social Exchange Theory 2
Application of:
The Social Exchange Theory
In everyday interactions people are always looking to have a positive experience among those with
whom they interact. According to the Social Exchange theory, with each interaction an individual has
with another, that individual attempts to maximize the positive outcomes and minimize the negative.
The purpose of this paper is to apply the Social Exchange theory to an authentic real life situation to
best illustrate the theory and the key concepts that it holds. In applying the social exchange theory
from demonstration, to application, to then explanation, a better understanding in terms of the value of
the theory will be shown, as well as the function that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to West and Turner this is critical to the Social Exchange Theory (182). The theory rests on
the notion that within the limits of the information that is available to them, people will calculate the
costs and rewards of a given situation and guide their behaviors accordingly West Turner 182).
Meaning that people are always calculating the rewards and costs for each situation they are put into,
and those rewards or costs determine the outcome of their decision making.
Along with assumptions for the Social Exchange there is another factor that plays a key role. Relating
to the concept of cost and rewards is the comparison level or CL. The comparison level is a standard
representing what people feel they should receive in the way of rewards and costs from a particular
relationship (West Turner 184). Therefore the individual weighs the pros and cons of the relationship.
If the cons are an

acceptable amount, then the relationship should very well stay the same. However, if the costs far
outweigh the rewards, then there is what is called a comparison level for alternatives (CLalt). As
stated by West and Turner, this refers to the lowest level of relational rewards a person is willing to
accept given available rewards from alternative relationships of being alone (185). Signifying that the
CLalt measures how people evaluate a relationship compared to the realistic alternatives

Nuremberg Research Paper
PROBLEM DEFINTION IN THE URBAN CONTEXT Nuremberg, Germany is a city that is well
known throughout the records of history. Post World War II, Nuremberg was the center for justice to
trial various Nazi and German officials from their heinous war crimes. After the Nuremberg trials,
Nuremberg began to urbanize like the rest of Germany recovering from World War II by redeveloping
neighborhoods and streets. Most of the streets were designed to be small and inaccessible by more
than a few cars at a time. As the German population increased and more Germans moved to the city of
Nuremberg, the amount of cars populating the city also began to rise. With the increasing amount of
cars came the abundance of emissions and air pollution from the vehicles. ... Show more content on

Within the first two months after the removal of cars, there air quality in the surrounding areas
actually deteriorated because of the changing of weather (Pluske) However, after one year of the car
removal, air pollution within the road closure significantly decreased and Nuremberg had a decrease
of Nitrous Oxide by over 30% because of the elimination of cars. This can be directly seen in the
figure below. The figure describes the change of spatial air structure of NO2 from the 1980s to the late
1990 s where the upwind pushes the air out of the city and then circulates back to the city. From the
years of 1981 1985 which was before the removal of cars, the nitrous oxide was in the form of a bell
shape curve where the pollution reached a peak percentage in the middle of the city, however, after the
removal of cars it can be seen that there is a downward trend of nitrious oxide within the area and in

Nancy Ward fought by her husband s side. Many sources say she would chew the lead bullets for his

way to guarantee survival. Despite Nancy Ward s wisdom, the people of her tribe strongly disagreed

Nancy Ward immediately left the council and saved Lydia Bean, a prisoner who some warriors had

Roanoke Island is just off the coast of North Carolina and was the location of one of the earliest
attempted English colonies in the new world. Investors in Great Britain saw opportunities for wealth

Sir Walter Raleigh. The first attempt to colonize the island was in 1586 and failed miserably. However,

Donald Trump 2016 President of the United States. Well not quite yet. Trump in his campaign for
presidency uses multiple rhetorical techniques to boost his popularity. He has uses biased language
and scapegoating to boost his political campaign just as like Squealer boosts himself to power.
Throughout the book Squealer, continuously uses biased language, in his rhetoric, which leads to him
control the animals. Squealer says that Snowball was Jones s secret agent the whole time and the
Battle of Cowshed was an arrangement. Did we not see for ourselves how he attempted fortunately
without success to get us defeated and destroyed at the Battle of the Cowshed? This quote shows the
biases Squealer has against Snowball, in which he is basically saying Snowball had plan this all long
and it was his fault for the battle. This evidence is very emotional and well known event to talk to the

Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing Class
This semester of my writing class, I have grown a new perspective on the word freedom. When
starting off, I only believed there to be one basic definition of this word. Now, I have learned that there
are two descriptive definitions and they are used in different ways. With all of the assignments I have
completed, I have found my strengths and weaknesses within my writing and have examined methods
on how to improve them efficiently. Along with that, I have used writing a tool to develop my
thoughts and process new ideas rather than just brimming the surface of the topic. Instead, I dug deep
into the readings and analyzed them in depth. Lastly, when I was stuck in any piece of work, I sought
help and used feedback that was given to me from my classmates, teacher, and the writing center.
Without my peers, I wouldn t have accomplished as much as I did this semester.
After I was done writing an assignment, that wasn t the end of my work, I still had to edit it over and
over until I found it to be acceptable. With doing this, I examined my own writing to find strengths
and weaknesses in order to push me to become a stronger writer. When looking for my strengths, I
found that I have a passion for writing and it is something that I truly enjoy doing. This has helped me
in my writing class, because it has made the assignments more fun and easier for me to accomplish.
However, I still have many weaknesses within my writing that requires room for improvement. For
example, a main

Coercive Control Summary
A Review of Evan Stark s Coercive Control Doctor Evan Stark began writing his book Coercive
Control: How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life in 1995. Unquestionably so, completing this book
was an extensive undertaking. His entrenchment and immersion in the field of domestic violence
relating to social work, legal/policy and research, spans far greater than the twelve years it took him to
complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well friendships that
have provided him with the knowledge base necessary to complete such an exhaustive work. Dr. Stark
s credentials in the area of violence against women developed through both his own academic career
and his professional achievements. Additionally, the network ... Show more content on

Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the patriarchy
and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women
that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization
widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour
(men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political
and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced
increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and
emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce
dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for
patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual
hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of
force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive
control. Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in
miniature (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by

Hospitable has been a characteristic of humanity for a long period of time, it can be said that it is

transform from an act of kindness, which the host is the one to giving shelters and food and for the
travellers, into a business industry. As a consequence, the basic need shelters and food have also been
reformed into the need of convenient and secure segment. Due to this situation, lots of hotels have
enlarged their budget on security purpose. Especially since the terrorist attacks in Jakarta in 2009 and
Taj Mahal hotel in Delhi in 2008, lots of big cooperation have boosted their security system and
establish an intense safety and security procedure. Thanks to those terror events, hoteliers are aware of
that the safety issue is the most important in the hospitality business. (Acton, 2013, p.5) This essay
will briefly discuss how organisation has pledged themselves to ensure their guests safety while
staying with them. The most terrifying event was on September 11, 2000 when two airplanes crashed
directly into the Twins Towers of the World Trade Centre, one crashed into the Pentagon and one
crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania . The attack was carried out by the Islamic radical

The Works Of The Renaissance Period
The artist I chose to write my descriptive criticism about is Michelangelo Buonarroti. I chose him
because his style as an artist intrigues me and I wanted to get myself involved with more of his work.
Michelangelo was born in Caprese, Italy in 1475 and died in Rome, Italy 1564 but buried in Florence .
He is a well known sculptor painter, architect, and poet whom never married. The artist had many
great works but there will be three in particular that has caught my eye that will be the focus of this
paper. All of the pieces that I will be discussing are a part of the Renaissance period . The first piece
that I will focus on is called Pieta (1499) in St.Peter s Basilica. This is a sculpture of what seems to be
the virgin Mary and Jesus after he was crucified. This sculpture is a piece that was unique to me. As I
looked at this piece it seemed in away almost life like but the way he sculpted Mary was bueatifully
done. You can see the expression on her face and even the look of her garments that she wore were
very detailed. I noticed the way this painting has a triangular approach. If u look from the top of her
head where her veil starts to flow all the way to the floor or the feet of her son Jesus that is in the
shape of the triangle. The picture shows so much emotion. It shows Jesus lifeless in his mothers arms.
You can see fine details even little nail marks in his side. Exactly what does this sculpture portray I do
not know but I do know that just from

2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake Essay
The 9.0 magnitude Indian Ocean earthquake was caused by subduction under the Indian Ocean.
Earthquakes are usually caused by convection currents leading to subduction/convergent currents.
Convection currents is caused by magma rising from the deepest part of the earth, then slowly cooling,
sinking again then re heating, then rising upwards basically repeating the rising and cooling then re
heating cycle over and over again. The plates are separated from each other and they move apart, the
plates then obviously hit another plate right next to it causing subduction. This earthquake was caused

People have a home but once the home is destroyed, there is no roof to stay under. Everything such as
money and belongings will be all gone meaning everyone will have to start over. People would
become greedy and criminal like since no one has anything left. If people see things that are valuable,
people will fight and argue to win that valuable thing causing war leading to death. Everyone will
starve because of hunger. No one will have the utensils and time to cook. If there were things to cook
with, there will be no crops or animals left to cook/eat. In conclusion, natural disasters have a huge

everyone will fight to get what they need and want.

There are other ways to improve buildings to reduce the impact of earthquakes. In some Japanese
buildings, there s a base isolation built. The Base Isolation is a system that is made of steel disks.
These steel disks are made of soft materials to soften the transmission of seismic movement from the

New Prophets And Its Impact On The Nation Of Israel,...
Many new prophets came about in books Isaiah through Malachi. The goal for the prophets was to
have Christ like characteristics and tell people the good news. God is the shepherd who chooses his
prophets to change the future. This was a time where the nation of Israel, Judah, Jerusalem and
Nineveh were not obeying God. However, God offered hope to the people by exiling the nation and
offering the people a new opportunity for a personal relationship. The nations existed to be a
disappointment to God because he had clearly informed the people to walk humbly with him in order
to experience the good life.
God had an unconditional love for his people, but he can still get angry when people oppose his word.
He offered forgiveness to the Israelites even when they turned against him to worship a false god.
Also, God did not ignore people who rebelled against him. He knew all the actions of everyone. God
was angry with the people of Nineveh because they had a strong rebellion against him. There were
people in the city who didn t believe in him and he casted a wrath. God is good to the people who
follow him, but he becomes bitter toward people who deliberately deny him as the Father. The time
period of Nineveh was a disappointment to God. There has been judged upon nations, but forgiveness
was offered. This is a reoccurring theme throughout the Old Testament. It goes to show that God
doesn t like when his people turn their backs against him, but he is willing to forgive them if they

The Meaning Of Longevity
Longevity by definition means a long duration of an individuals life or the length of ones life.
Longevity can also mean thinking about means of extending and prolonging a human life as well as
living it healthy. Everyone wants to live a long and happy life. As we all grow older we try to find
methods that will prolong our lives we tend to look into changing our life style, changing our diet,
exercise that will extend our lives, and supplements and herbal remedies.
Longevity has been thought about and sought after for centuries. It has been in the storytelling
community for as long as we have recorded and documented stories. From science fiction and utopian
novels to myths and legends. The book of Genesis talks about the Garden of Eden, it wasn t until eve
ate the apple and sinned that god put death and disease on the earth. The fountain of youth is a well
known tale of longevity, a Spanish explorer went looking for a spring that said to be in Florida and
anyone who drank from it would have youth restored to there body. The Holy Grail is another story, it
is the chalice that Jesus and his disciples drank from at the last supper. The legend is anyone who had

Poverty In John Steinbeck s As American As Apple Pie
Poverty has now become As American As Apple Pie , a situation we choose to ignore, and along with
it the millions of families who suffer from it. Many have this tendency to believe that they are safe
from falling into poverty; unaware of the multiple situations that can cause one to fall into poverty. It
makes one wonder what s keeping them from tipping over, eventually leading to the question, what
makes poverty so common, and why is it still around?
Following the recession and lost of millions of manufacturing jobs, many American families fell
within the poverty line. As Rank describes in his article many turned to the safety net known as
government aid during such times. Such assistance was to provide families in need with money and

inability to find a job within sixty months, while attending all required welfare programs and caring
for their children. It s very difficult for these women to find a job and keeping one was even greater
challenge. Finding childcare was very difficult, along with having to take days off in case the child

care of five children alone would be no easy feat! Even as she picked up more shifts at the nursing
home where she worked, the cost of college tuition and other essentials had us barely getting by. The
next summer, we embarked on the lofty goal of opening a home healthcare business, one that would
the sustain the family and still allow her spend time with my siblings and me. Barely 17, I found
myself in charge of creating the business policies and procedures to meet established state and other
health organizations standards. Each evening after completing my college work, I would draft the
business guidelines, explore marketing options, and apply for various licenses and permits. 18 months
later, it seemed that all the hard work and patience had paid off our business had passed a rigorous
state inspection. Running a healthcare business was challenging, but due to our hard work and ability
to put the needs of our patients first, the business thrived. More importantly, this experience made me
yearn for a more intimate relationship with medicine. Rather than experience healthcare via the lens of
a business, I wanted to be the one caring for the patient. I completed a degree in

Nettle Analysis
Be not deceived by the appearance of things, for show is not the substance Anonymous
When we write or read there are two levels of comprehension. The first is the literary sense, where one
doesn t dive beneath the surface to find meaning. The second is symbolism. When used properly, this
tool adds meaning and depth to one s literature and allows one to recognize and understand more
thoroughly. To find a symbol of myself was no easy task, but when thought over thoroughly, stinging
nettle came to mind. One does not necessarily think of beauty, softness or practicality when they think
of stinging nettle, and yet there is so much more to this prickly plant that meets the eye. Like me, this

stems of nettle when you had a runny nose or blocked sinuses? One does not see nettle next to Cold

they are more difficult to harvest than cotton (although perhaps the growing concern for our

Willy Loman Hero
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller features Willy Loman as a tragic figure. His role in the story is
plagued by shattered hopes and hardship, leading to his eventual demise. Willy Loman brings hardship
on those around him through his financial and social decisions made. Willy Loman declines to accept
a job from Charley, even though it would be better in almost every way to accept a job from him.
Instead, Willy continues to borrow money from Charley, with no way of paying it back. He was just
given unpaid leave from work with payments piling up. Yet instead of making things better for his
family and those around him, he declines a job from Charley. He therefore stays in unpayable debt to
Charley, and puts his Wife and sons in financial jeopardy. Even when granted the perfect solution,
Willy avoids it, a classic sign of a tragic character. Additionally, Willy opts to make financially

Evaluating A Customer Reviews Of Products Sold Online
Bing and Liu discuss ways to enhance customer satisfaction in this paper by studying customer
reviews of products sold online. The paper also describes the problem of generating feature based
summaries based on these reviews. According to the paper, a customer review of a particular product
is composed of three parts, namely:
Different features of the products that the customers have expressed their opinion,
Identifying positive and negative opinions based on their reviews and finally
Composing a summary based on information obtained.
The main advantage of using feature based summary is that it enables customers for explicit reviews
on a particular product. This also enables merchants to study the growth of their products ... Show

The system crawls all the information (customer reviews) from the particular product and starts to
extract the feature words. The mining classification is divided into three subtasks. First, POS tagging,
most product feature in reviews contain nouns and phrases. POS enables to identify these tags words
by word. The authors have used NLProcessor linguistic parser to split the sentences and produce POS
tag for every individual word. Some pre processing is performed to remove stop words to avoid big
POS tag lists. Fuzzy matching was also used to deal with misspelling and word variants. Second,
identifying frequent features, features that are particularly used by customers in many reviews. To put
in context, words, or sentences that occur together in many reviews. The authors use association
mining to list out these words. An apriori algorithm based association miner is used to identify these
features/words. The gathered features cannot possibly be genuine product features. Pruning enables to
remove the unwanted features/words that don t match to product opinion or feature. The author uses
two pruning methods and compares their efficiency. While using compactness pruning, it looks for

For the EU the European Union stands for power. If you look at a country from the European Union,

Also is an advantage of the EU that it contributes to peace, by among other things the possibility of a

The EU has also caused a discussion between the euro and guilder in Netherlands. Namely by use of

Nutt and Backoff, (1992, p. 112) explain that some types of public organizations that can control
change and other types that cannot easily control change. Professional agencies such as the IRS and
FBI have considerable prerogative to act in a prescribed arena and have a protected budget. Political
agencies, such as the State Department, have high control over their actions and may have legislation
to protect it. Thus, change may be in the hands of parties outside of the agency.
In examining change, Lewin identified three phases of the change process unfreezing, changing, and
refreezing. This involves getting people ready for the change, providing new patterns of behavior,
integrating the behavior into the individual permanently.
Tushman and Romanelli (1985) noted that only executive leadership has the position and potential to
initiate and implement strategic change . There are four levels of change in people: knowledge,
attitude, behavioral, organizational change (Hersey and Blancherd, 1993). This research focuses on the

Make a plan for working on each assignment and avoid procrastination. Procrastination is one of the
biggest challenges for any student. It is easy to put off an assignment until the last minute only to turn
in work that is not to the best of your ability because you were rushed. It is best to plan out certain
times throughout the day that can be used to get required reading or research complete. You can get
more accomplished throughout the week if you take it a little at a time. Consistency will yield more
results than trying to get all of an assignment complete at the last minute. The student can also prepare
all the materials needed for an assignment in advance. It is much easier to complete an assignment if
you have all the required resources readily available ahead of time. There is an enormous difference
between undergraduate classes and classes taken in a graduate degree plan. Student s that are in an
undergraduate degree plan are expected to summarize material that is researched or given to them for
a paper. According to Lavelle and Bushrow (2007), the increased writing demands of courses at the
graduate level, including greater emphasis on depth and breadth, demand for genre competence, and
often expectation for publication, merely reporting or summarizing are insufficient (Lavelle amp;

Human Rights Activist, Martin Luther King Jr, in his letter, Letter from a Birmingham Jail , writes to
the public, justifying his actions against segregation. King s purpose is to convey the idea that
segregation is morally wrong in all senses. He displays a disciplined, yet exasperated manner while
referencing historical and biblical events, to show society how segregation is inhuman.
King begins his letter to the clergymen of Birmingham by comparing his actions to that of biblical

Small Molecule Of Voltage Gated Sodium Channels
Small Molecule Modulation of Voltage Gated Sodium Channels

Institute for Computational Molecular Science, Department of Chemistry, Temple University,
Philadelphia, PA 19122
Abstract
Voltage gated sodium channels are fundamental players in animals physiology. By triggering the
depolarization of the lipid membrane they enable generation and propagation of the action potential.
The involvement of these channels in numerous pathological conditions makes them relevant target
for pharmaceutical intervention. Therefore, modulation of sodium conductance via small molecule
binding constitutes a promising strategy to treat a large variety of diseases. However, this approach
entails significant challenges: voltage gated sodium channels are complex nanomachines and the
details of their workings have only recently started to become clear. Here we review ¬¬ with emphasis
on the computational studies some of the major milestones in the long standing search of a
quantitative microscopic description of the molecular mechanism and modulation of voltage gated
sodium channels.
Physiological Role of Voltage Gated Sodium Channels (VGSCs)
To respond to changes in the external environment, cells propagate electrical signals generated by
transient, highly controlled transmembrane ionic currents.
Responsible for this process are ion channels, ubiquitous proteins that reside in membranes of
excitable cells and convert chemical and electrical stimuli

Identify The Complex World Of Identity
Identifying the complex world of Identity
Overview
The concept of identity is difficult to define as it is ambiguous. It can be interpreted from many
different perspectives, and environments. In its most basic form it is the way that people see
themselves. This includes one s assumptions about them self as Cliford Geertz would put it, and the
society around them. Furthermore scholarship defines identity as the way people see themselves in the
context of nature, and how people see animate and inanimate aspects of the natural world. (Hoffman,
1998) We live in an all encompassing society however so identity includes all ranges from national,
social, personal, environmental, religious, and even political identities.

Fears Of The Supernatural During The Elizabethan Era
Fears of the Supernatural During the Elizabethan Era, many strange superstitions became common
around Europe. Some of these are still evident in society today. Why do people think that black cats
mean bad luck? Why do people say God bless you, after somebody sneezes? And what does this have
to do with ghosts? During the Shakespearean time period, superstitions were caused by the creation of
ghost stories, provoked greatly by plays, and were blamed for misfortune. The word superstition is
often used very loosely, and should first be defined, before being used. Derived from super above ,
and stare to stand , the Latin Superstitio signifies a standing over or survival , describing an irrational
or a credulous attitude towards magico religious beliefs and practices in a modern civilized
community long after these primitive ideas and customs have been abandoned by the more
sophisticated section of society (James 289). The exact definition of the word superstition, from the
Gale database, tells us that the belief in superstitions was popular long after society had cast aside the
thoughts from society. During this time, the belief of superstitions was growing more, as was the
creation of plays and ghost stories. The belief in superstitions was caused mostly by ghost stories. One
of the most famous ghost stories is that of Queen Isabella of France.

Minor Characters In Romeo And Juliet
In the traumatic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the tragic result is and is not the
responsibility of the minor characters. The minor characters are certainly not responsible because
Romeo and Juliet killed themselves with their own free will, and none of the minor characters were
involved in this wistful event. As well as this, fate also had a significant role in guiding their
relationship to not work out as it caused many events to inevitably happen. However, I believe that
Friar Lawrence is accountable for part of the tragedy, as he did not do his best or go out of his way, to
ensure that his plan for Romeo and Juliet would work out. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet ended their lives
with their own free will, and no one encouraged or guided them to do so. An example is when Juliet
was asleep in the tomb and Romeo assumed she had died. Romeo quotes, Is crimson in thy lips and in
thy cheeks, and death s pale flag is not advancèd there. This hence shows that Romeo had an instinct
that Juliet was not dead and he thoroughly noticed all the signs of a living and healthy person;
however did not look deeper or infer profoundly. At this point, Romeo drunk the poison because he
concluded that his life was not worth living unless Juliet was in it. This shows how Romeo ended his
life himself without the influence of any minor characters. Another example is when Juliet stabs
herself with the dagger. Juliet quotes, Yea, noise, then I ll be brief; O, happy dagger! This is thy
sheath; three rest, and let me die. This also shows that Juliet killed herself with no encouragement
from minor characters and stabbed herself with her own doing. Juliet was too in love with the idea of
love, as she also thought she did not have a purpose without Romeo. Juliet had so much more to live
for and none of the minor characters expressed to Juliet, that Romeo was all she had. These two
examples intensively confirm how it was undoubtedly, not the minor characters fault and it conveys
how they are not responsible for the disastrous and devastating deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Moreover,
fate had a notable significance in regarding the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Fate led on many events
that were destined to happen, with

Antigone as a Tragic Hero Essay
Antigone as a tragic hero The debate over who is the tragic hero in Antigone is unanswered. The belief
that Antigone is the hero is a tough one. Antigone is widely thought of as the tragic hero of the play
bearing her name. She would seem to fit the part in light of the fact that she dies for doing what she
believes is right. She buries her brother without worrying what might happen to her. Unlike Antigone,
Ismene says And break the law, our death will be more shameful even then theirs (pg.5 line 60). In
Sophocle s Antigone, the characters show a variety of traits. However, Antigone s life of aspiration,
family of noble rank, and display of good mentality portray her as the tragic hero of the story. A tragic
hero has haughty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antigone fulfills all three traits thoroughly in the story of Antigone. A tragic flaw plays a very
imperative part of a tragic hero. Tragic flaw simply means a character weakness. The most common
types of tragic flaws are unwarranted pride, ambition, and jealousy. Those who do believe that
Antigone was meant to be the true tragic hero argue against others who believe that Creon deserves
that honor. They say that the Gods were against Creon, and that he did not truly love his country. His
patriotism is to narrow and negative and his conception of justice is too exclusive... to be dignified by
the name of love for the state . These arguments, and many others, make many people believe the
Antigone is the rightful protagonist. Antigone tries to help her brother without worrying about what
will happen to her. She says, I intend to give my brother burial. I ll be glad to die in the attempt, if it s
a crime, then it s a crime that God commands (she says in a different translation). Antigone says He
has no right to keep me from my own (pg.4 line 48). She was also punished for doing what was right.
Her epiphany came, hidden from the audience, before she hung herself. Creon, understanding his
ignorance may lead one to believe that he is the true protagonist. But, if you define the word
protagonist you would find that a protagonist is one who is a leader or supporter of a cause. Antigone
is in support of her own actions in the burial of her brother

were 30 J and 30 K targets. T2 comprised of 24 J, 24 K and 12 null targets. The participants were
asked to decide whether they saw the letters J, K, both or neither following the RSVP stream. They
were asked to do so by using a button click mechanism. At the end of all the trials, the participants
were presented with a summary of their performance report. It was observed that the percentage of T1
reported does not vary significantly as a function of lag. Also, the percentage of T2 reported varied as
a function of lag. At greater lag positions, it was seen that the percentage of T2 reported goes above
that of T1.

From the 1920 s up until his death Joseph Stalin was the leader of Russia. What ensued under Stalin s
reign didn t evoke emotions of love for country within the Russian people. Under Stalin the people
lived in constant fear because of an epidemic within their own country, genocide of Stalin s own
people by Stalin himself. From 1934 up until 1939 a period of mass fear swept over Russia and at the
helm Stalin with his (helpers?) of mass killings, the NKVD which are the internal police. Russia has
always had a form state security service commonly thought of now as the secret police , but in 1929
under the direction of Stalin the NKVD was formed and though it may have a new name it still held

Along with that man the founding fathers (PBS), of the Soviet Union were publically executed for
crimes against the country (PBS). During Stalin s reign fear was a motivator anyone who spoke out
was executed or sent to the Gulag s, but that wasn t enough for Stalin. The people who were terrified
of him also had to praise him; Stalin s grasp over Russia was so strong that wherever you were his
photo was near you (BBC). Children were taught to love Stalin even though they were scared out of
their minds. Stalin was given credit whenever anything good happened like there was a good growing
season for farmers, just like a god and they dare not do anything else (BBC). The reason Stalin
instilled so much fear into his fellow countrymen was what he felt would create unity (BBC). The
Soviet Union has always had a form of inner security somewhat like a combination of the FBI and
CIA in America, but much more corrupt and ruthless. The NKVD was in control of certain
departments they include troops stationed inside of the Soviet Union, criminal departments such as the
police and other forms of investigation, prison guards these guards are also the Gulag guards as well,
The NKVD was also in charge of much more (NKVD.org). As part of Stalin s sense of unity came a
sense of country; it has been

Food In Japanese Food
We as humans, see food as just a necessity of survival. As we intake our meal for the day, it is
uncommon for us to think past the taste or temperature of what is being placed in our mouth; we don t
pay attention to the depth of what the food on our plate could mean to not only us, but to others in the
world. Unlike what most may believe, food is an essential component of society. The consumption,
preparation and the values and customs that attribute to creation of these foods symbolize a variety of
thing in a culture. The way a culture prepares and eats its food shows us a glimpse of what this culture
may be like. The art that is involved in the process of a culture s breakfast, lunch and/or dinner
illustrates characteristics and the personality of that culture.
Though the Japanese are portrayed as fun, animated people in media, the Japanese are actual very
respectful, polite, structured people. This may not be something you can see in television, but if you
take a look at their meals and how they are prepared and consumed you can see how much honor is
put into the art of eating and how that symbolizes the personality of the culture at large. Before getting
into the consumption aspect of the meal, lets first look at how the food is prepared. Japanese meals are
highly structured events, and the different versions of a Japanese meal are defined by the relative
position of the major carbohydrate rice whose presence is culturally important, (Ashkenazi, Jacob
2000, 82) No

Pablo Neruda Poem Analysis
I want you to stop and think about tone in day to day conversations. It mostly depends on the body
language, volume of voice, and pitch of the person speaking. Written poems, on the other hand,
develop their tone through imagery, language use, and form. To show this, I will be using the poem
Tonight I can write by analyzing how Pablo Neruda works with distant imagery, nostalgic past tense,
and repetitive form to develop a grief filled tone. Through my analysis, I will be mentioning that the
author generates loneliness in the persona. I expect the reader to agree that solitude is a state naturally
feared and unwanted by humankind because of our undeniable biological drive to reproduce and
survive, which requires the company of others. With that being said, I hope that we can assume
loneliness is essentially connected to grief.
The first way I noticed that Pablo Neruda uses form to establish a grief filled tone in his poem is by
repetition, specifically, of the word night . The word is present through his entire work. Nights are
linked to darkness, and darkness is neurologically linked to depression. In 2007, some neuroscientists
at the University of Pennsylvania conducted a study with rats which concluded that light deprivation
produces depression in rats. So it is scientifically correct to say that this repeated darkness adds to the
grief filled tone. His first word in both the title and line 1 of the poem is Tonight (1) which derives
from the word night. After this,

Investigation Of The Cell Membrane Essay
Mustafa Elgabry
October 17, 2016
Period 3
Egg Lab
Introduction: The cell membrane benifits the cell in many different ways and is composed of many
different parts which help the membrane execute what it is supposed to practice. A model that
represents these parts is called the fluid mosaic model. The model contains proteins and carbohydrates
within a phospholipid bilayer that consists of hydrophobic tails and hydrophilic heads. All of the
components within the bilayer play a role in the function of the cell membrane. For example the
carbohydrates practice cell to cell recognition while the proteins transport molecules in the cell and
back out. Proteins also have alternate functions such as intercellular joining and extracellular matrix.
When molecules transport in and out of the cell through the membrane, there are two types of
transport, passive and active transports. Passive transport occurs when molecules move with the
concentration gradient. One example is simple diffusion, where the molecules transport through the
cell membrane effortlessly moving from a high to low concentration. Then there is facilitated diffusion
where the molecules such as glucose move with the concentration gradient but have to use a protein to
pass through the membrane. Osmosis, however, is the diffusion of water molecules across the
membrane, but the water molecules also need to pass through a protein because the inside of the lipid
bilayer consists of hydrophobic tails. The purpose

Current Diagnostic Criteria For Sarabeth s Disorders
Current diagnostic criteria for SaraBeth s disorders is better explained by criterion A D in Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and criterion A E in Anxiety Disorder due to another medical condition.
OCD criteria A requires that the individual have the presence of obsession and/or compulsions.
SaraBeth reports obsessions of recurrent and persistent thoughts about harm coming to her parents and
although she had attempted to ignore these thoughts she continues with performing her compulsions.
SaraBeth s compulsions are evident by reported repetitive behaviors of performing ritual prayers,
persistent checking on the iron and stove and although SaraBeth can admit that her fear is unrealistic,
she continues the compulsions in order to feel better or to relieve oneself. Criteria B requires that the
obsessions and/or compulsions be time consuming (more than one hour) or cause clinically significant
distress or impairments in important areas of function. SaraBeth has stated that can spend three to four
hours during the day engaged in checking behaviors. Criteria C entails that the obsessions compulsive
symptoms are not attributable to the physiological effects of a substance or another medical condition.
SaraBeth currently has no indication of a medical condition or substance use prior to the first onset of
her obsessive compulsive symptoms. Criteria D requires that the disturbance not better explained by
the symptoms of another medical condition. Currently there is no evidence

Macomb Town Legend
In my couple I have heard many things about Macomb and the resident that live here. But what really
caught my attention was the ghost tales I heard. With Macomb being s little as it is. With that being
the town is unfamiliar to what I m used to. I m from the third biggest city in the nation (Chicago).
With coming to Macomb I had a feel that the town was haunted. I have always had a thrill of knowing
about ghost and their history. So with knowing that the university I was attending was haunted, it was
amazing to know. According to residence in Macomb and the university, there are about 4 5 ghost

The Benefits Of Cystic Fibrosis
Oftentimes, the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions an inherited genetic disease is
cancer, or even diabetes. However, there are hundreds and thousands of other inherited diseases that
effect millions of people each year but are over looked or underrepresented for various reasons. An
example of one of these disease is Cystic Fibrosis(CF). There is not much popularity associated with
Cystic Fibrosis because there s limited research on the topic. However, according to the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation, C.F. is a genetic disease that is essentially a severe cold that never goes away.

revolves around mechanism by which neutrophils react in the body. According to Margaroli, C., and
R. Tirouvanziam, neutrophils might not be the tight and ridged leukocytes they were previous thought
to be, rather they have a lot of elasticity when it comes to how they unfold in the tissues in the body
(Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). This neutrophil elasticity creates a perfect setting for diseased
microenvironments to grow in the body which is often associated with lung disease and C.F.
(Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). In C.F. patient s neutrophils are often over worked and there is
neutrophil activity in the body s extracellular fluid which shows the relationship between the
relationship of C.F. patients and this discovery of neutrophil activity (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1).
This innovation can lead to more knowledge about the activity and formation on neutrophils and show
scientists more about the underlying cause and potentially a cure/solution for C.F.
Between genetics, symptoms, pathology, treatments and new innovations, one could say Cystic
Fibrosis is a loaded and complicated illness. However, C.F. effects too many people for it to be
forgotten about or underrepresented. With further research and new discoveries, every day we are one
set closer to curing this

The History of the Vietnam War Essay
The Vietnam War started in 1945, resulting in almost 60,000 American deaths and nearly two million
Vietnamese deaths, according to Mintze. Years after combat countless Vietnam veterans suffer from
posttraumatic stress disorder in every aspect of their lives (Price). Posttraumatic stress disorder is an
illness that can happen to anyone who has gone through a horrifying experience. It has been
documented in all forms of literature and films the brutality of the war and the side effects it came

This act to dismantle the communist north violated the Cambodian neutrality and prompted protests
nationally. There was such outrage and chaos one demonstration ended in a shooting at Kent State
University killing four students. The bloodshed has left numerous Americans wondering if the war
was necessary (Learn about Vietnam War). The root of the questions regarding Vietnam War is why
did so many soldiers come home from this war so drastically transformed? Coleman addresses, in the
early years of the war, volunteers filled most of the ranks. As the war continued and the public became
more aware of the inhumanity the government implemented a draft (Coleman 66). Statics show the
poor led this war and very few wealthy were recruited (Coleman 67). Coleman claims, the average age
of the soldiers who died were seventeen and twenty one (68). She writes this certainly contributed to
the psychological wounds (68). Various reasons explain why Vietnam vets had become
psychologically ill. Coleman believes it was a lack of leadership, support, and trust. Troops were
trained to believe the Vietnamese were below Americans and they were just gooks (74). One by one
each veteran tells their story in the documentary Winter Soldier, and the same story is told in different
words. In the moment of war the men were persuaded to believe what they were doing was for the

Get Drunk By Charles Baudelaire
In the prose poem, Get Drunk, Charles Baudelaire shares advice on how to escape all the burdens that
come with life. He encourages his readers to get drunk and to always be drunk. Charles Baudelaire
sensibly uses the word drunk to describe what one should do when he or she begins to feel the burden
of time. The way he defines drunkenness in this poem inspires readers to change their mindset on
what brings them satisfaction in life. I believe Get Drunk transmits a healthy message and the poet
views drunkenness as a positive experience. When people hear or see the word drunk , they
automatically think of alcohol consumption and the psychological effects it has on the mind.
Baudelaire s definition of drunkenness differs from the dictionaries

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to West and Turner this is critical to the Social Exchange Theory (182). The theory rests on the notion that within the limits of the information that is available to them, people will calculate the costs and rewards of a given situation and guide their behaviors accordingly West Turner 182). Meaning that people are always calculating the rewards and costs for each situation they are put into, and those rewards or costs determine the outcome of their decision making. Along with assumptions for the Social Exchange there is another factor that plays a key role. Relating to the concept of cost and rewards is the comparison level or CL. The comparison level is a standard representing what people feel they should receive in the way of rewards and costs from a particular relationship (West Turner 184). Therefore the individual weighs the pros and cons of the relationship. If the cons are an Social Exchange Theory 5 acceptable amount, then the relationship should very well stay the same. However, if the costs far outweigh the rewards, then there is what is called a comparison level for alternatives (CLalt). As stated by West and Turner, this refers to the lowest level of relational rewards a person is willing to accept given available rewards from alternative relationships of being alone (185). Post World War II, Nuremberg was the center for justice to trial various Nazi and German officials from their heinous war crimes. From the years of 1981 1985 which was before the removal of cars, the nitrous oxide was in the form of a bell shape curve where the pollution reached a peak percentage in the middle of the city, however, after the removal of cars it can be seen that there is a downward trend of nitrious oxide within the area and in the ... • 9. Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Writing Class This semester of my writing class, I have grown a new perspective on the word freedom. When starting off, I only believed there to be one basic definition of this word. Now, I have learned that there are two descriptive definitions and they are used in different ways. With all of the assignments I have completed, I have found my strengths and weaknesses within my writing and have examined methods on how to improve them efficiently. Along with that, I have used writing a tool to develop my thoughts and process new ideas rather than just brimming the surface of the topic. Instead, I dug deep into the readings and analyzed them in depth. Lastly, when I was stuck in any piece of work, I sought help and used feedback that was given to me from my classmates, teacher, and the writing center. Without my peers, I wouldn t have accomplished as much as I did this semester. After I was done writing an assignment, that wasn t the end of my work, I still had to edit it over and over until I found it to be acceptable. With doing this, I examined my own writing to find strengths and weaknesses in order to push me to become a stronger writer. When looking for my strengths, I found that I have a passion for writing and it is something that I truly enjoy doing. This has helped me in my writing class, because it has made the assignments more fun and easier for me to accomplish. However, I still have many weaknesses within my writing that requires room for improvement. For example, a main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unquestionably so, completing this book was an extensive undertaking. His entrenchment and immersion in the field of domestic violence relating to social work, legal/policy and research, spans far greater than the twelve years it took him to complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well friendships that have provided him with the knowledge base necessary to complete such an exhaustive work. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the patriarchy and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Works Of The Renaissance Period The artist I chose to write my descriptive criticism about is Michelangelo Buonarroti. I chose him because his style as an artist intrigues me and I wanted to get myself involved with more of his work. Michelangelo was born in Caprese, Italy in 1475 and died in Rome, Italy 1564 but buried in Florence . He is a well known sculptor painter, architect, and poet whom never married. The artist had many great works but there will be three in particular that has caught my eye that will be the focus of this paper. All of the pieces that I will be discussing are a part of the Renaissance period . The first piece that I will focus on is called Pieta (1499) in St.Peter s Basilica. This is a sculpture of what seems to be the virgin Mary and Jesus after he was crucified. This sculpture is a piece that was unique to me. As I looked at this piece it seemed in away almost life like but the way he sculpted Mary was bueatifully done. You can see the expression on her face and even the look of her garments that she wore were very detailed. I noticed the way this painting has a triangular approach. If u look from the top of her head where her veil starts to flow all the way to the floor or the feet of her son Jesus that is in the shape of the triangle. The picture shows so much emotion. It shows Jesus lifeless in his mothers arms. You can see fine details even little nail marks in his side. Exactly what does this sculpture portray I do not know but I do know that just from ... However, God offered hope to the people by exiling the nation and offering the people a new opportunity for a personal relationship. The nations existed to be a disappointment to God because he had clearly informed the people to walk humbly with him in order to experience the good life. God had an unconditional love for his people, but he can still get angry when people oppose his word. He offered forgiveness to the Israelites even when they turned against him to worship a false god. Also, God did not ignore people who rebelled against him. He knew all the actions of everyone. God was angry with the people of Nineveh because they had a strong rebellion against him. There were people in the city who didn t believe in him and he casted a wrath. God is good to the people who follow him, but he becomes bitter toward people who deliberately deny him as the Father. The time period of Nineveh was a disappointment to God. There has been judged upon nations, but forgiveness was offered. This is a reoccurring theme throughout the Old Testament. It goes to show that God doesn t like when his people turn their backs against him, but he is willing to forgive them if they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of these are still evident in society today. Why do people think that black cats mean bad luck? Why do people say God bless you, after somebody sneezes? And what does this have to do with ghosts? During the Shakespearean time period, superstitions were caused by the creation of ghost stories, provoked greatly by plays, and were blamed for misfortune. The word superstition is often used very loosely, and should first be defined, before being used. Derived from super above , and stare to stand , the Latin Superstitio signifies a standing over or survival , describing an irrational or a credulous attitude towards magico religious beliefs and practices in a modern civilized community long after these primitive ideas and customs have been abandoned by the more sophisticated section of society (James 289). • 36. Minor Characters In Romeo And Juliet In the traumatic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the tragic result is and is not the responsibility of the minor characters. The minor characters are certainly not responsible because Romeo and Juliet killed themselves with their own free will, and none of the minor characters were involved in this wistful event. As well as this, fate also had a significant role in guiding their relationship to not work out as it caused many events to inevitably happen. However, I believe that Friar Lawrence is accountable for part of the tragedy, as he did not do his best or go out of his way, to ensure that his plan for Romeo and Juliet would work out. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet ended their lives with their own free will, and no one encouraged or guided them to do so. An example is when Juliet was asleep in the tomb and Romeo assumed she had died. Romeo quotes, Is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, and death s pale flag is not advancèd there. This hence shows that Romeo had an instinct that Juliet was not dead and he thoroughly noticed all the signs of a living and healthy person; however did not look deeper or infer profoundly. At this point, Romeo drunk the poison because he concluded that his life was not worth living unless Juliet was in it. This shows how Romeo ended his life himself without the influence of any minor characters. Another example is when Juliet stabs herself with the dagger. Juliet quotes, Yea, noise, then I ll be brief; O, happy dagger! This is thy sheath; three rest, and let me die. This also shows that Juliet killed herself with no encouragement from minor characters and stabbed herself with her own doing. Juliet was too in love with the idea of love, as she also thought she did not have a purpose without Romeo. Juliet had so much more to live for and none of the minor characters expressed to Juliet, that Romeo was all she had. These two examples intensively confirm how it was undoubtedly, not the minor characters fault and it conveys how they are not responsible for the disastrous and devastating deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Moreover, fate had a notable significance in regarding the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Fate led on many events that were destined to happen, with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Antigone as a Tragic Hero Essay Antigone as a tragic hero The debate over who is the tragic hero in Antigone is unanswered. The belief that Antigone is the hero is a tough one. Antigone is widely thought of as the tragic hero of the play bearing her name. She would seem to fit the part in light of the fact that she dies for doing what she believes is right. She buries her brother without worrying what might happen to her. Unlike Antigone, Ismene says And break the law, our death will be more shameful even then theirs (pg.5 line 60). In Sophocle s Antigone, the characters show a variety of traits. However, Antigone s life of aspiration, family of noble rank, and display of good mentality portray her as the tragic hero of the story. A tragic hero has haughty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antigone fulfills all three traits thoroughly in the story of Antigone. A tragic flaw plays a very imperative part of a tragic hero. Tragic flaw simply means a character weakness. The most common types of tragic flaws are unwarranted pride, ambition, and jealousy. Those who do believe that Antigone was meant to be the true tragic hero argue against others who believe that Creon deserves that honor. They say that the Gods were against Creon, and that he did not truly love his country. His patriotism is to narrow and negative and his conception of justice is too exclusive... to be dignified by the name of love for the state . These arguments, and many others, make many people believe the Antigone is the rightful protagonist. Antigone tries to help her brother without worrying about what will happen to her. She says, I intend to give my brother burial. I ll be glad to die in the attempt, if it s a crime, then it s a crime that God commands (she says in a different translation). Antigone says He has no right to keep me from my own (pg.4 line 48). She was also punished for doing what was right. Her epiphany came, hidden from the audience, before she hung herself. Creon, understanding his ignorance may lead one to believe that he is the true protagonist. But, if you define the word protagonist you would find that a protagonist is one who is a leader or supporter of a cause. Antigone is in support of her own actions in the burial of her brother ... • 39. Seminal Replication on Attention Blink This study was a seminal replication on attention blink similar to the one done by Raymond et al, in a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) task. This study predicted that there would be a higher accuracy for identifying the first target, T1 and lower accuracy for the second target, T2 depending on the lag, given that T1 was accurately reported. 193 students participated in the experiment. This experiment was a part of the course requirement. There was a stream of 19 letters, each lasting for 100 ms. The target letters, T1 and/or T2, to be identified were either a J or a K or both from the stream of 19 letters presented. In this study, a total of 60 trials were conducted for each participant. For T1, there were 30 J and 30 K targets. T2 comprised of 24 J, 24 K and 12 null targets. The participants were asked to decide whether they saw the letters J, K, both or neither following the RSVP stream. They were asked to do so by using a button click mechanism. At the end of all the trials, the participants were presented with a summary of their performance report. It was observed that the percentage of T1 reported does not vary significantly as a function of lag. Also, the percentage of T2 reported varied as a function of lag. At greater lag positions, it was seen that the percentage of T2 reported goes above that of T1. • 41. Food In Japanese Food We as humans, see food as just a necessity of survival. As we intake our meal for the day, it is uncommon for us to think past the taste or temperature of what is being placed in our mouth; we don t pay attention to the depth of what the food on our plate could mean to not only us, but to others in the world. Unlike what most may believe, food is an essential component of society. The consumption, preparation and the values and customs that attribute to creation of these foods symbolize a variety of thing in a culture. The way a culture prepares and eats its food shows us a glimpse of what this culture may be like. The art that is involved in the process of a culture s breakfast, lunch and/or dinner illustrates characteristics and the personality of that culture. Though the Japanese are portrayed as fun, animated people in media, the Japanese are actual very respectful, polite, structured people. This may not be something you can see in television, but if you take a look at their meals and how they are prepared and consumed you can see how much honor is put into the art of eating and how that symbolizes the personality of the culture at large. Before getting into the consumption aspect of the meal, lets first look at how the food is prepared. Japanese meals are highly structured events, and the different versions of a Japanese meal are defined by the relative position of the major carbohydrate rice whose presence is culturally important, (Ashkenazi, Jacob 2000, 82) No ... • 42. Pablo Neruda Poem Analysis I want you to stop and think about tone in day to day conversations. It mostly depends on the body language, volume of voice, and pitch of the person speaking. Written poems, on the other hand, develop their tone through imagery, language use, and form. To show this, I will be using the poem Tonight I can write by analyzing how Pablo Neruda works with distant imagery, nostalgic past tense, and repetitive form to develop a grief filled tone. Through my analysis, I will be mentioning that the author generates loneliness in the persona. I expect the reader to agree that solitude is a state naturally feared and unwanted by humankind because of our undeniable biological drive to reproduce and survive, which requires the company of others. With that being said, I hope that we can assume loneliness is essentially connected to grief. The first way I noticed that Pablo Neruda uses form to establish a grief filled tone in his poem is by repetition, specifically, of the word night . The word is present through his entire work. Nights are linked to darkness, and darkness is neurologically linked to depression. In 2007, some neuroscientists at the University of Pennsylvania conducted a study with rats which concluded that light deprivation produces depression in rats. So it is scientifically correct to say that this repeated darkness adds to the grief filled tone. His first word in both the title and line 1 of the poem is Tonight (1) which derives from the word night. After this, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Investigation Of The Cell Membrane Essay Mustafa Elgabry October 17, 2016 Period 3 Egg Lab Introduction: The cell membrane benifits the cell in many different ways and is composed of many different parts which help the membrane execute what it is supposed to practice. A model that represents these parts is called the fluid mosaic model. The model contains proteins and carbohydrates within a phospholipid bilayer that consists of hydrophobic tails and hydrophilic heads. All of the components within the bilayer play a role in the function of the cell membrane. For example the carbohydrates practice cell to cell recognition while the proteins transport molecules in the cell and back out. Proteins also have alternate functions such as intercellular joining and extracellular matrix. When molecules transport in and out of the cell through the membrane, there are two types of transport, passive and active transports. Passive transport occurs when molecules move with the concentration gradient. One example is simple diffusion, where the molecules transport through the cell membrane effortlessly moving from a high to low concentration. Then there is facilitated diffusion where the molecules such as glucose move with the concentration gradient but have to use a protein to pass through the membrane. Osmosis, however, is the diffusion of water molecules across the membrane, but the water molecules also need to pass through a protein because the inside of the lipid bilayer consists of hydrophobic tails. Tirouvanziam, neutrophils might not be the tight and ridged leukocytes they were previous thought to be, rather they have a lot of elasticity when it comes to how they unfold in the tissues in the body (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). This neutrophil elasticity creates a perfect setting for diseased microenvironments to grow in the body which is often associated with lung disease and C.F. (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). In C.F. patient s neutrophils are often over worked and there is neutrophil activity in the body s extracellular fluid which shows the relationship between the relationship of C.F. patients and this discovery of neutrophil activity (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1).
